- 0:00Speaker 1: And now a morsel of murder with Gina Barberry radio
- 0:06Speaker 1: from Hell on X ninety six.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Before you get to the main morsel of murder. Okay,
- 0:11Speaker 2: answer me this murder question. That guy who they were
- 0:16Speaker 2: looking for who apparently killed his three daughters, still haven't found,
- 0:19Speaker 2: still on the lane, now still on the run. Found him,
- 0:23Speaker 2: and my guess is he's dead.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Quite possibly the murdered.
- 0:28Speaker 3: ESK will follow that for you, all right, I'll let
- 0:30Speaker 3: you know if we do you learn anything about that.
- 0:33Speaker 3: But the most recent trial of the century has been
- 0:37Speaker 3: the Karen Reid murder trial in Massachusetts. Jury Massachusetts acquitted
- 0:44Speaker 3: Karen Reid of murder and manslaughter charges on Wednesday, ending
- 0:47Speaker 3: illegal saga that's gripped the Boston area since the death
- 0:50Speaker 3: of Miss Reid's boyfriend John O'Keefe, a Boston police officer,
- 0:54Speaker 3: in January twenty twenty two.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's been going on for a while.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Prosecutors had accused me, Miss Reid, forty five, I'm intentionally
- 1:02Speaker 3: hitting Officer O'Keefe with her SUV after an argument and
- 1:05Speaker 3: then leaving him to die in a blizzard.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Miss Reid tearfully.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Embraced her attorneys after the verdict was read in the courtroom,
- 1:11Speaker 3: and cheers of hundreds of her supporters erupted outside the courthouse.
- 1:16Speaker 1: A jury of.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Seven women and five men began deliberating last Friday. Sent
- 1:20Speaker 3: several messages to the judge, like, you know, because she
- 1:25Speaker 3: had a hung jury last time. This is the second
- 1:27Speaker 3: time they've tried her for this. They had lots of questions.
- 1:31Speaker 3: They ended up only coming back to drunk driving. They
- 1:36Speaker 3: convicted her of drunk driving.
- 1:39Speaker 2: They said that there was not enough evidence to indicate
- 1:42Speaker 2: that she'd intentionally run over her boyfriend. So how did
- 1:47Speaker 2: the story go? He went in something about he went
- 1:49Speaker 2: into a house.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Well, so they were out drinking at a bar with
- 1:54Speaker 3: a bunch of friends, and at some point it was like,
- 1:57Speaker 3: we're going to move the party back to and these
- 1:59Speaker 3: are all police officers and their their wives and girlfriends,
- 2:04Speaker 3: and we're going to move the party to somebody's house.
- 2:07Speaker 3: So they've already all been drinking before they go. As
- 2:14Speaker 3: they're approaching the house that they're arguing in the.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Car just of them, the two of them.
- 2:20Speaker 3: And there are different stories, obviously for the defense and
- 2:24Speaker 3: the prosecution, about what happened next. She says she pulled
- 2:29Speaker 3: up to the house, and it was a house she
- 2:31Speaker 3: hadn't been to before, and she wasn't sure if they
- 2:34Speaker 3: should go in or if they should just go home.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And she said, I told him to just go up
- 2:38Speaker 3: and check and make sure it's okay if we come
- 2:41Speaker 3: into the party. And she says he got out of
- 2:44Speaker 3: the car and she waited and waited and waited, and
- 2:46Speaker 3: he never came back, and.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So she left. Okay, that's her story.
- 2:51Speaker 2: So his body was discovered outside the house, yes, in
- 2:55Speaker 2: the snow, Yes, and he'd been run over.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Well, that's that's it a matter of debate that there
- 3:02Speaker 3: were corners that said he'd been run over, and there
- 3:06Speaker 3: are corners that said he could have been attacked by
- 3:09Speaker 3: a dog, which you would think they do things would
- 3:13Speaker 3: be would be easy to prove, right. The prosecution said
- 3:20Speaker 3: that the defense was claiming that he went into the
- 3:25Speaker 3: house and a dog attacked him and killed him, and
- 3:29Speaker 3: there was a fight and they dragged see this is
- 3:32Speaker 3: way more implausible to me, and dragged his body outside
- 3:37Speaker 3: to let him die in the snow.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So the police did this, his fellow officers, right, and
- 3:44Speaker 1: in the house because of the dog.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Isn't it more plausible that she meant, whether on purpose
- 3:50Speaker 3: or on accident, was mad at him and peeled away
- 3:54Speaker 3: in the car.
- 3:54Speaker 1: She was drunk.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, Yes, So that presumably they
- 3:59Speaker 2: called to the stand people who were in the house
- 4:02Speaker 2: at the party. Yes, and they all said what.
- 4:05Speaker 1: They all said. He never came in the house. We
- 4:07Speaker 1: never saw him.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He never came in.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But there were a bunch of things. So here's my theory.
- 4:16Speaker 3: My theory is how he died was they were arguing,
- 4:19Speaker 3: he got out of the car, and she got mad
- 4:20Speaker 3: and drove away, and somehow when she was driving away,
- 4:22Speaker 3: she accidentally hit him and he died in the snow.
- 4:25Speaker 1: That's what I think happened.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I think when the people inside the house who are
- 4:29Speaker 3: police officers, figured this out, they have other shady stuff
- 4:35Speaker 3: going on that they didn't want people.
- 4:37Speaker 1: To find out about.
- 4:38Speaker 3: They're like, oh, my god, this guy died in our yard.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They're going to start looking into X y Z. Like
- 4:43Speaker 3: one of the cops at the house threw away his phone.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Oh that's like, that doesn't mean they killed him. I
- 4:50Speaker 1: think that means they're hiding. They're hiding something. They also
- 4:55Speaker 1: sort of.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Ginned up a little extra evidence against her, like were like,
- 5:00Speaker 3: we really have to make sure she she gets blamed
- 5:03Speaker 3: for this, so they don't look at us. And plus
- 5:06Speaker 3: you have fellow police officers investigating fellow police officers.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So it's not as thorough.
- 5:13Speaker 2: So your theory, your theory, though, is is that they
- 5:16Speaker 2: that they wanted to cast blame on her.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They wanted to make sure she was blamed for.
- 5:22Speaker 2: It, and and they were not successful at that. No,
- 5:27Speaker 2: she was acquitted. So the jury said, no, we're not
- 5:30Speaker 2: buying it. We are not buying it.
- 5:32Speaker 3: The prosecution had evidence that her defense attorneys were like
- 5:36Speaker 3: superstar defense attorneys, like like very well known, expensive.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And really good dressers.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I mean they were, they were slick. They were. Now
- 5:47Speaker 1: the prosecution had.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And I thought this was really good evidence. They had
- 5:52Speaker 3: evidence from his phone that could tell the temperature of
- 6:00Speaker 3: where the phone was, could tell at what time it
- 6:04Speaker 3: was inside the car where it was warm because there
- 6:06Speaker 3: was a blizzard going on, and then outside in the cold,
- 6:11Speaker 3: and then that.
- 6:12Speaker 1: It didn't move.
- 6:14Speaker 3: There was a two minute time frame between the time
- 6:17Speaker 3: he got out of the car and then the phone
- 6:19Speaker 3: didn't move. That tells me got out of the car,
- 6:24Speaker 3: she put the car in reverse and hit him.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Whether on purpose or accident. I'm willing to give her that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And maybe she didn't even know.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, she was drunk and he fell down and
- 6:34Speaker 3: hit his head. There, I thought that phone, so here's
- 6:38Speaker 3: what it says.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know what the problem with that was? Though it
- 6:40Speaker 2: wasn't one of those Trump mobile phones.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Here's here's the official word. Prosecution experts testified that officer
- 6:46Speaker 3: O'Keefe's phone did not record any movement after twelve thirty
- 6:49Speaker 3: two am that night, and the phone's temperature steadily dropped
- 6:53Speaker 3: over the next several hours. Prosecutors used that evidence to
- 6:56Speaker 3: rebut the defenses claims that he was attacked by people
- 6:59Speaker 3: at the party. He was not at the party. He
- 7:01Speaker 3: would have had his phone with him inside the house
- 7:03Speaker 3: and it would have been moving around. I thought that
- 7:07Speaker 3: was a great piece of evidence, but but somehow she's
- 7:13Speaker 3: she got The only thing they could prove was that
- 7:16Speaker 3: she was drunk driving. Now, I don't think she purposely
- 7:21Speaker 3: did it.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I don't think she purposely. I don't.
- 7:23Speaker 2: You don't think she's going to go around murdering people
- 7:25Speaker 2: with her car, No.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I don't.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And everyone involved in this is a horrible person.
- 7:31Speaker 1: She's a horrible person. All of the people at the
- 7:34Speaker 1: house are horrible people. There's a whole documentary about this
- 7:37Speaker 1: on Netflix.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Why does she have so many supporters outside the courthouse.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I think they're.
- 7:44Speaker 3: People that don't like the police department in Boston. And
- 7:49Speaker 3: there's a lot of shady stuff with that. One of
- 7:52Speaker 3: the one of the investigating officers, was writing horrible stuff
- 7:56Speaker 3: about her and text messages calling her the steward and
- 8:01Speaker 3: and and you know, yeah, well but I don't think
- 8:08Speaker 3: that means that she didn't accidentally run him over.
- 8:11Speaker 2: So what's next for Karen Reid?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Oh, she'll she'll probably have I don't know. She likes
- 8:19Speaker 1: the attention too, I don't know.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Oh the other thing, Yeah, I forgot about this of
- 8:27Speaker 3: there was a glass so when they let and there's
- 8:30Speaker 3: a video of this at the bar, he has a
- 8:33Speaker 3: glass mixed drink in his hand that he takes in
- 8:35Speaker 3: the car with him.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, because because cops definitely are above that.
- 8:41Speaker 3: The glass was found broken on the ground in front
- 8:46Speaker 3: of the house. Now, if he got out of the
- 8:48Speaker 3: car to go walk up to the house to go
- 8:50Speaker 3: into the party, wouldn't he have taken the glass inside?
- 8:54Speaker 2: Who knows? Maybe?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe not. I don't know, but she's she's free.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And clear, free and clear, and they can't try anyone else.
- 9:04Speaker 2: They got our long national Nightmares Zone.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It's been a huge deal in Boston, is that it? Uh? Yes, Okay,
- 9:14Speaker 1: thank you for that. Okay, we have boners on the way.
