- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Today we're concluding a short series on New Year's goals for writers.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And we're touching on a few areas that I want you to focus on in the coming year.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I promise these will make a huge difference if you take action and you do them.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So far, we've talked about some big goals that can change your life as well as the lives of other people.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: We've talked about writing a book, joining a writing group, making more money, and mentoring another writer.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And today, on this final episode in this short series, I want to challenge you to stop settling for average in 2023.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Now, what do I mean by this?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: What do I mean by stop settling for average?
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: So here's the deal.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Most writers settle for average.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: They settle for an average quality book, average marketing, average energy, average success, an average peer group, and so on.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: We settle for average because we get used to it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: It takes a lot of energy to recognize how average your life is and then be willing to change elements of your life in order to be more successful.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Now, here's what I'm not suggesting.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not suggesting that you go out and replace all your friends or that you spend a million dollars on some crazy group, you know, of billionaires to try and learn what they know.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you had a billion dollars to be a part of the group, that would be cool, I guess.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: But I'm not suggesting you do anything necessarily radical.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: What I am suggesting is actually much simpler, and it starts with one simple decision, and that is to get around the right type of people who are dreaming, thinking, planning, and executing on a higher level than where you are now.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: You know, it's pretty hard to manufacture enthusiasm and energy all by yourself.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It's much easier to do it when you're running with the horses, to use a phrase from the Bible.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And that idea of running with the horses really is talking about getting involved with people who are going at a faster speed than you are.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And as you might have guessed, I'm going to mention here the Daily Rider Club, which is a group that is designed to help you achieve more as a writer and also build your writing-based business.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We have a remarkable group of people there, and we would love to have you check it out and join us.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And you can do that by visiting dailyriderclub.com.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: So here's the honest truth.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I say this sometimes on this show, which is I am committed to just being brutally honest with you.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You're my friend, I care about you, and I just believe in being blatantly honest with people about things.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, what's the use of covering up the truth, right?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: What's the use of telling people things that aren't true?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I just believe in being honest.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And here's the honest truth.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: When you settle for average, you will get average results.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: So my question is will 2023 be the year that you finally start to pursue your writing dreams and reach for something higher?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Stop accepting average and instead commit to growing more than you thought possible this year.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you tomorrow.
