- 0:08There are rules to surviving a horror movie.
- 0:11Don't split up, don't investigate the noise, and never say, "I'll be right
- 0:17back." Here, three friends break down the scares, the kills, the monsters,
- 0:24and the terrible decisions that got everyone there in the first place.
- 0:28We rate the scares, we roast the victims, and we ask the important
- 0:33question, would we survive?
- 0:37So dim the lights, pour the drinks, and prepare for spoilers.
- 0:43This is The Scarier Things Club
- 0:51Hi, welcome back, episode four of the Scarier Things Club.
- 0:54We ex- are so excited that you're here.
- 0:56We hope that you have watched along with us.
- 0:59Um, today, we are back to our normal routine and we will be covering Signs
- 1:03from all the way back to, uh, 2002.
- 1:07This is a 24-year-old movie, which is pretty crazy.
- 1:09I mean, we- That's crazy … we've watched older movies.
- 1:12Alien.
- 1:12Yeah, we have.
- 1:12Alien being the oldest.
- 1:14But yeah, this one I remember, like, little things about it, and then
- 1:19re-watching it, I really was so into it.
- 1:23So, this is starring Mel Gibson, which I had started watching this movie, and Alec,
- 1:27which he's very much against scary movies.
- 1:29He hates them, but he said, "Oh, this got Mel Gibson in it? Oh, I know I
- 1:33ain't gonna watch that. That's gonna be too realistic." Pretty so realistic.
- 1:37Yes.
- 1:37I was like, "You are so full of poop." Um, but yeah, so today,
- 1:43again we're talking about Signs.
- 1:45It has Mel Gibston, Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Abigail Breslin,
- 1:50and Rory Culkin, which I didn't realize there was, like, more Culkin.
- 1:54Yeah.
- 1:55Those genes are strong.
- 1:56The whole family.
- 1:57They l- they all look the same.
- 1:59They all look the same?
- 2:00This is true.
- 2:00I mean, I only know about the three of them, right?
- 2:02Rory- Kieran and Macaulay Oh, I forgot about Kieran Um, there are probably more.
- 2:07Yeah.
- 2:07Kieran's, uh, I don't know That's how much Rory looks like
- 2:10Kieran that I thought- Yeah
- 2:11Kieran was Ror- Rory in this movie Kieran- Kieran … Kieran looks, he
- 2:15seems like he's a funny guy, like a cool person to just hang out with.
- 2:19What is he in?
- 2:20He's been in some other movies, but I think I saw him on maybe Hot Ones.
- 2:25Okay.
- 2:25And he's just, like, genuinely entertaining and funny-
- 2:28Yeah … just in his real life.
- 2:30Yeah.
- 2:30But he's an actor as well?
- 2:32Mm-hmm.
- 2:32Okay.
- 2:32I can't remember what he's been in.
- 2:34A lot, like, you'd probably be like, "Oh, yeah, I've seen this and
- 2:36that and that." I just can't recall specifically a movie right now.
- 2:40Gotcha, gotcha.
- 2:41I consider this movie to be kind of like a long lost alien movie.
- 2:44Um, I feel like it just kind of falls into the shadow of, of
- 2:47different alien movies like Alien and even, like, War of the Worlds.
- 2:51I'm trying to think.
- 2:52The Arrival I feel like was, like, a big one.
- 2:54I feel like this one just kind of, like, fell through the cracks a little bit.
- 2:57So I hope that you've watched along.
- 2:59Today, quickly I bring to the club just a quick discussion on the actor.
- 3:03And I know, or not the actor, but the, uh, director.
- 3:06And I know, I feel like each episode we're like, "No, we're not gonna
- 3:09talk about the director," but then here's a fact about the director.
- 3:13I did not realize that M. Night Shyamalan directed this, and I just
- 3:18found that interesting 'cause I feel like he's such a polarizing director.
- 3:22You either, I feel like either his movies hit or they don't.
- 3:27And so I just… Also, the range.
- 3:30I didn't realize that he had directed The Sixth Sense, which
- 3:33I hope that we watch soon.
- 3:34Mm-hmm.
- 3:34I don't think I've ever seen that movie.
- 3:36Oh.
- 3:36Oh, really?
- 3:37Wow.
- 3:37Yeah, I don't think so.
- 3:38You know, you know the- Yes … the deal?
- 3:40Okay.
- 3:40Yes, I do.
- 3:41Oh, okay.
- 3:41But he also directed, like, Unbreakable.
- 3:43Yep.
- 3:43Yes.
- 3:44And Split.
- 3:45And Glass.
- 3:46Did he do all three?
- 3:47Yeah, I believe so.
- 3:48That's a good series.
- 3:49Yeah.
- 3:49That is a good little- Good little universe of movies Mm-hmm.
- 3:51Yeah.
- 3:51Yeah.
- 3:52And just, like, so intricate.
- 3:54The Village, The Happening, and I- The Happening, I don't think I know that one.
- 3:58That one has- It's with the trees, right?
- 4:00Yeah.
- 4:00I think it's got, like, Mark Wahlberg in it, and there's like, there's some
- 4:05kind of nature driven I don't wanna say disease, but, like, it makes you
- 4:09go crazy, and then you kill yourself.
- 4:12Oh.
- 4:12And it, like, starts in America, and then I think it spreads-
- 4:15Okay … to, like, other places.
- 4:17But yeah, I just feel like he is one of the most talented, creative,
- 4:20and frustrating directors out there.
- 4:23And it's like he's really good at building suspense, making these, like, really
- 4:28memorable concepts, but then somehow the twists just don't always land.
- 4:33And, like, the quality- Yeah … of his stuff is a little inconsistent.
- 4:36But I just was really shook whenever I realized, like, he directed this.
- 4:40Mm. And I forgot that he likes to do cameos-
- 4:43in his movies.
- 4:44Yeah.
- 4:44And I kinda, I think that's fun.
- 4:45I like that, that little- Yeah … twist.
- 4:47Um- I like when a director does that.
- 4:49Or like around, like when they put Stephenie Meyer in the Twilight movies.
- 4:52Oh, yeah.
- 4:52I like a little cameo.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:54I think with him, was The Sixth Sense, like, his first big- Yeah, that was like-
- 5:00hit?
- 5:00… his breakout.
- 5:00Oh, wow.
- 5:01So- I think.
- 5:02I think that was.
- 5:02I think it was, I think that was the first one, and then I know Signs
- 5:07came after, but I- Mm-hmm … or maybe Unbreakable was after that.
- 5:10Yeah, I don't know the order- I can't … Yeah, I don't know what- … of
- 5:11all of them … what the release dates were, but Signs d- I mean, not Signs,
- 5:14The Sixth Sense was definitely his…
- 5:17You know, when that came out, that- Yeah, kinda put him on the map kinda thing.
- 5:20Yeah.
- 5:21I think with that- You have a movie that has this iconic twist- Yeah … and
- 5:27it's, that's your movie that people are like, "Oh, those are the kind of
- 5:31movies this guy makes." And then you continually make movies that do have
- 5:35some sort of element of a twist- Yeah
- 5:37and then people are expecting it, and so the bar was set so high.
- 5:42That's true.
- 5:43And I- you listing off a lot of his mo- I like a lot of those movies.
- 5:47I think the only one that I remember watching and being like, "Oh, my
- 5:52gosh, I can't believe I spent my time on that," was The Village.
- 5:55Oh, yeah.
- 5:56Did he do The Witch, too?
- 5:57No.
- 5:58No, it was somebody else?
- 5:59I, I don't think so.
- 5:59But The Village, I remember getting to the end of that and being
- 6:02like, "Are you kidding?" Really?
- 6:04Yeah.
- 6:04And
- 6:06there was a ti- people have gone sour on him, a lot of folks.
- 6:10Yeah.
- 6:10And it, people went, "Ugh, it's probably gonna be a bad movie he's directed,"
- 6:15like, if he comes out with a new one.
- 6:16Yeah.
- 6:17But I guess if you look at the body of work as a whole, the, the perception
- 6:23of him doesn't really match what I think he's actually put out, because
- 6:27I do think I like a lot of the movies.
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:31Yeah.
- 6:31I don't know.
- 6:32And didn't him and, like, Nicholas Sparks just come out with a … I feel
- 6:35like they, like, wrote a book together.
- 6:36Nicholas Sparks?
- 6:38Yes.
- 6:38The Notebook?
- 6:39I'm pretty sure.
- 6:40Let me look it up really quick.
- 6:41That is quite a pa- you know what?
- 6:43That is such an odd pairing that I would read it just for the kicks.
- 6:47I bet it, like, works in a way.
- 6:49Yeah, let's see.
- 6:51So they, yeah, they co-created a joint … Yeah, so they did
- 6:55a, it's a project called Remain.
- 6:59Blends romance and the supernatural.
- 7:00Okay.
- 7:01Apparently it was published October 14th of last year.
- 7:04Okay.
- 7:05So- I might have to get that for the beach.
- 7:06Ooh.
- 7:07I wonder if that's on Kindle.
- 7:10I do need a good, I need a beach read.
- 7:13I don't usually like romance books, but I do like a mystery.
- 7:16Okay, I'm gonna- Right?
- 7:17All right.
- 7:17So Sixth Sense definitely was the first one, then Unbreakable, then
- 7:22Signs, but I'm gonna blow your mind.
- 7:24Did he direct something that we'll be like, "What?" Trap.
- 7:28Trap.
- 7:28Oh, with Josh Hartnett?
- 7:30Yeah.
- 7:31That movie was good.
- 7:31Have you seen it?
- 7:32No, I haven't.
- 7:33Okay, we're gonna watch it.
- 7:34I had no idea that that was- Is it scary?
- 7:35an M. Night movie.
- 7:36It's a- Not really … suspenseful movie.
- 7:38Oh, is that the one that just came out, like, with, like, the concert?
- 7:41Yeah, not too long ago.
- 7:43Yeah, it was, it was… I thought it was a great movie.
- 7:44I thought it was well done.
- 7:45Let me see if it's on this list.
- 7:46I might have to add it.
- 7:48Which that one was cool, 'cause you know the premise up front.
- 7:50You know who the killer is- Yeah … from the previews.
- 7:53Okay.
- 7:53And you're like, "How's it gonna-" Yeah, I really enjoyed that one.
- 7:56"What's gonna happen here?" Okay, it's added.
- 7:59So Remain is on Kindle.
- 8:00It's not free unfortunately, but- Oh, pass … I might- We'll wait till that's free.
- 8:04Ah, okay, perfect.
- 8:05Perfect.
- 8:06Perfect.
- 8:07Yeah, um, so and then the inspiration of this movie kinda came from,
- 8:11like, a, a combination of things.
- 8:12So, like, when crop circles in the UK kind of, like, all went
- 8:16crazy, and then have y'all heard of the Kelly-Hopkinville encounter?
- 8:21I have not heard of that, no.
- 8:22I don't think so.
- 8:22So this is… It was a family in Kentucky who lived on a farm, and they claimed
- 8:27that these little green men kept visiting their farm and, like, causing a ruckus.
- 8:32And so that's also kind of the origin of, like, aliens being little green men.
- 8:36When was that?
- 8:37Uh, 1955.
- 8:39Oh, so a long time ago.
- 8:41Okay.
- 8:41Long time ago.
- 8:41Makes sense.
- 8:41Yeah.
- 8:42And it was kinda like one of the things, like, where eventually they
- 8:44just had enough and they just, like, fled in the middle of the night.
- 8:47The people?
- 8:48Yeah the people at the farm.
- 8:49Oh.
- 8:50'Cause they kept, like, hearing things, like, on, like, second story windows.
- 8:52Uh-huh.
- 8:53And, like, I think, like, animals were acting weird.
- 8:55I don't know if there was, like, any kind of, like, animal
- 8:57mutilation or anything like that.
- 8:59Mm-hmm.
- 8:59But yeah, that's kind of, like, where he drew inspiration- Hmm
- 9:02for this movie.
- 9:04Interesting.
- 9:05I enjoy, like, a good kind of, like, fun fact.
- 9:07I'm- Yeah … I'm realizing this doing this podcast.
- 9:11So that's what I brought to the club today.
- 9:12Awesome.
- 9:13There was a period of time, and it might be, it might have been because of this
- 9:18movie, uh, 'cause I was looking it up- I remember as a, like, preteen young
- 9:25person, which would've been about the…
- 9:26I was 12 when this came out.
- 9:28Like, I remember my dad watching… There being all kinds of alien stuff on
- 9:34the TV, like people out in fields, like showing how, "Here's how you could make
- 9:39a crop circle- Oh, yeah … with the board and the ropes- And rope … and
- 9:42you're w- And, and three people could make one this size in, like- Yeah
- 9:46four hours," and trying to debunk and show it as a hoax and whatever.
- 9:50And there were multiple, like, documentaries on it.
- 9:53I feel like it was on the news.
- 9:54And I was like, "Why is everybody freaking out about crop circles
- 9:57all of a sudden?" Right.
- 9:58Is this a thing?
- 9:59And that might be why I have feelings about aliens now, 'cause I was subjected
- 10:03to so much alien news- Oh, right
- 10:05as a child that I was like, "This is not… it's nothing." Um-
- 10:08Right … but that, there was a craze around this time I feel like.
- 10:14Yeah.
- 10:14And I don't know if it was because of this movie or if this movie drew
- 10:18from what was already kinda bubbling.
- 10:20I don't know if it reignited people's interest in crop circles.
- 10:24Right.
- 10:24But there were a group in, maybe two guys, in the early '90s in the
- 10:29UK that they admitted to, I don't know, it was a multiple… Okay,
- 10:36they admitted to creating hundreds of crop circles over a 15-year period
- 10:41with the wooden planks and ropes.
- 10:43Gosh.
- 10:44So for 15 years- It takes years … they kept this secret and people- Wow
- 10:47thought that aliens or some being was m- in the UK w- was just making crop circles.
- 10:55Yeah.
- 10:56So that was in '91, though, so- I wonder how they- I don't know … made these
- 11:01'cause some of these, I mean, if you look 'em up, are just so intricate.
- 11:04Yeah, with no drone.
- 11:05With no drone.
- 11:06Yeah.
- 11:07Nothing from above- Yeah … to be able to tell what you're doing.
- 11:09That is impressive.
- 11:10It's actually impressive.
- 11:10Yeah.
- 11:10Yeah.
- 11:11To, and 'cause you gotta do it under cover of night.
- 11:13Yeah.
- 11:14I looked up are there any recent ones?
- 11:16And it says yes, they're still appearing, I don't necessarily know where.
- 11:19Apparently, like, there are, uh, like a hotspot is Wiltshire in the UK.
- 11:27Where's Stonehenge?
- 11:29I feel like we should probably know that, that answer.
- 11:31Let's see.
- 11:31But I'll be honest with you, I don't know Europe?
- 11:34Europe, question mark?
- 11:35But we have- It's big rocks.
- 11:36I don't know how to spell … we have Google.
- 11:38We have Google.
- 11:39Uh, it is in Wiltshire.
- 11:41Wiltshire.
- 11:43Is that the place?
- 11:43Wiltshire.
- 11:44Yeah.
- 11:45Um… There you go.
- 11:46England.
- 11:46Huh.
- 11:48I wonder if that's like… I wonder why that- Do people think aliens- … why
- 11:52that area … did- Yeah Yeah, I mean, they're, they- Like the, um- They-
- 11:56… stones … yeah, 'cause they have you know, they don't have any explanation or
- 11:59a- history on what it actually is, right?
- 12:01Yeah.
- 12:01Oh, yeah, 'cause people think aliens did the pyramids too.
- 12:03The pyramids too as well.
- 12:04Well, aren't they like in- I mean, the pyramids are a mystery.
- 12:06Yeah.
- 12:07Well, aren't they, like, in, like, drawings and stuff?
- 12:10What?
- 12:10Like UFOs, like flying saucers- I don't know … in, like, Egypt.
- 12:14I- I wouldn't put anything past the Egyptians.
- 12:17That civilization is fascinating to me.
- 12:19Yeah, it really is.
- 12:20The ancient Egyptians.
- 12:21We need a scary movie on ancient Egyptians.
- 12:24Not The Mummy.
- 12:25Oh, like there are- Not The Mummy … several.
- 12:29With, uh, what's his name?
- 12:30Brendan Fraser.
- 12:30Yes.
- 12:30The Rock.
- 12:32No way.
- 12:32The Rock.
- 12:33Is he… Yeah.
- 12:34He was in that Scorpion King one- Yeah, Scorpion King … where
- 12:35he had the weird, uh- Wig?
- 12:38Oh, okay.
- 12:38Yeah.
- 12:39Yeah.
- 12:39Should we put that one?
- 12:40Is that- Is that a scary movie or is that like a- It's not really.
- 12:43No, that's
- 12:50just more of an action- I feel like that's like a national
- 12:51treasure type- Yeah … thing.
- 12:51Oh, okay.
- 12:51Yeah, I don't know if The Mummy- It might be a suspense action.
- 12:51It must be.
- 12:51Yeah.
- 12:51Maybe it's more of an action movie.
- 12:52Yeah, I think they- Okay.
- 12:52We can put a pass on that one then … I think they are
- 12:53coming out with the- There is…
- 12:55Yes.
- 12:55There is a new one.
- 12:56There is a new Mummy.
- 12:56Like a scary one or, or- Yes.
- 12:58Yes, you're right.
- 12:59Uh-huh.
- 12:59Yes.
- 12:59It's like a little girl.
- 13:01Oh, I don't know.
- 13:02I haven't seen anything.
- 13:02I don't think it got great.
- 13:04Oh, it's already out?
- 13:05Yes.
- 13:05Oh.
- 13:06Oh, no, I was thinking the… So I heard… I need to fact check
- 13:09this, so this may not be true.
- 13:11Uh, but- We're just telling you about movies that don't exist … yeah,
- 13:12we're just telling you about movies that I wish existed.
- 13:14But I, I know what, I just saw a trailer for Werewolf.
- 13:17Oh, yeah.
- 13:18Oh.
- 13:18Which, from the director of Nosferatu, and- I need to see Nosferatu … it's
- 13:22r- it's a beautiful movie.
- 13:24Okay.
- 13:24It is beautiful.
- 13:24Like, so visually appealing.
- 13:26Yeah.
- 13:26It's, yeah, it's really, really well done.
- 13:27Not scary, but- Right … a beautiful movie.
- 13:29Yeah.
- 13:29Okay.
- 13:30And creepy.
- 13:30It has a good scary ambiance.
- 13:33'Cause is Nosferatu a vampire?
- 13:35Yeah.
- 13:35Yeah.
- 13:35Okay.
- 13:36And I think, I think they're trying to make, like, all of
- 13:40the classic monsters maybe.
- 13:41Oh, yeah, 'cause they just did, like, Frankenstein not too long ago, did they?
- 13:45There was one that came out, but if that was… I don't know if
- 13:48it's gonna be a part of the same- Oh, the one with Jacob Elordi?
- 13:51I don't know.
- 13:51It's, uh, Gui- Was that Frankenstein?
- 13:53… Guillermo, uh, Guillermo del Toro.
- 13:55Oh, okay.
- 13:56That one.
- 13:56Yeah.
- 13:57Is that the one you're talking about, the one on Netflix?
- 13:57I had, I had feelings about that one.
- 13:59I thought it was great.
- 13:59Should we add it?
- 14:02It's, um… We can.
- 14:06Okay.
- 14:06We can.
- 14:07I mean- I don't know if it's scary, but we can.
- 14:09Fun fact- 'Cause I have thoughts about it, for sure … Beth is
- 14:12the authority on Frankenstein.
- 14:13I wouldn't say that, but I, it is- I will say it … it is my favorite novel.
- 14:17Oh, is it really?
- 14:18And I had some…
- 14:21when you say that a movie is an accurate- Yeah … retelling of that
- 14:26story, it better be, and I- Oh, okay.
- 14:30I'll save it.
- 14:31Okay.
- 14:32Okay.
- 14:32I think, I think I would like this discussion.
- 14:35Yeah.
- 14:35Maybe I should read the book and then watch the movie.
- 14:37How big is the book?
- 14:39It's thick.
- 14:39Should that be my beach read?
- 14:41No.
- 14:41Okay.
- 14:43Perfect.
- 14:44No?
- 14:44Okay.
- 14:45No.
- 14:45It's not a casual read.
- 14:49Okay The language is cumbersome.
- 14:53Oh, do they have like a modern- Yeah, yeah, you could, get…
- 14:58Honestly, if I were you- … I would go to like, Shmoop or SparkNotes or
- 15:02whatever and g- and be like, "Tell, just tell me what happens." Okay.
- 15:06Because if you just want the story- Yeah
- 15:08and the, the themes and all that, those will give you what you want
- 15:13without you having to clunk through Mary Shelley period writing.
- 15:17Okay.
- 15:18There's no NIV version or…?
- 15:20That's the, yeah, that's the NIV version.
- 15:21New Living Translation.
- 15:22That's the ver- Just don't get like the Message version.
- 15:24That's not really- That's, uh, Frankenstein with Aaron Eckhart.
- 15:27Yeah.
- 15:27Yeah.
- 15:27These are horror/ Christian Bible translation jokes.
- 15:32If you're on the same- … if you're on the same wavelength
- 15:35with us- … join the club.
- 15:38That's awesome.
- 15:38We do this.
- 15:40All right, cool.
- 15:40Um, yeah, so S- so Signs.
- 15:43Back to that, I guess.
- 15:45We will kind of give a rundown of what this is about if, since 2002 you- Yeah
- 15:52are unfamiliar.
- 15:54And after how much I obviously loved the movie Alien- Ugh.
- 15:58… I would love to intro this movie.
- 16:01So we had pulled up to stream it, and it was classified as a faith thriller,
- 16:07and I was like- Yeah … "What?" 'Cause I hadn't seen it- Right … since I
- 16:11was a teenager, so like it came out when I was 12, and then I probably had
- 16:14not seen it since I was a teenager.
- 16:16Yeah.
- 16:17And so I r- had forgotten, except for the iconic images that stick with
- 16:22you, you know- Yeah … the plot.
- 16:24I was like, "I don't know." And so I was confused by that.
- 16:29That makes sense after you watch the the movie.
- 16:31Yeah.
- 16:31I'm like, "That's a very good description of it." Um, so it follows
- 16:33this grieving priest and his family.
- 16:36He has his two kids and then his brother, adult brother, who lives
- 16:41also on the farm with them, and they're in Pennsylvania, and aliens
- 16:47are coming to take over the globe.
- 16:50You don't know that at the beginning of the movie, but there's a big crop circle
- 16:53that shows up in their huge corn field.
- 16:55Why a priest needs that much corn-
- 16:57I don't know.
- 16:58That seems like a lot to take care of.
- 17:00A- You know he's not making whiskey out of it.
- 17:02No.
- 17:03I mean, really, he's not- But he's not a priest anymore.
- 17:05He's not, but h- that, all that corn didn't pop up- Six
- 17:08months … after his wife died.
- 17:09They had that farm.
- 17:11That's true.
- 17:11And I'm like, "What?" That's true.
- 17:12They had that farm.
- 17:13That's true.
- 17:13Like what… All right.
- 17:16He bought that farm.
- 17:17But no, his wife did Oh, no.
- 17:21Oh, okay.
- 17:22Wait, what?
- 17:22He's like I've missed something.
- 17:25He said
- 17:27Oh.
- 17:27He said they bought that farm.
- 17:29I said, "No, his wife did," 'cause bought the farm is a euphemism for dying.
- 17:34Oh.
- 17:34Sorry, I went there, and I shouldn't have maybe, but I definitely did.
- 17:38Why is that a euphem- I don't know, but if you s- if somebody says, "Well, they
- 17:41bought the farm," that means they died.
- 17:43Oh, okay.
- 17:45Sorry.
- 17:45No, no, I, I- No, that's perfect.
- 17:47That's hilarious … unintentionally set that up for you, and you knocked- That's-
- 17:49… you knocked it out of the park.
- 17:51Perfect.
- 17:51So they ha- for some reason, priest is taking care of the flock in
- 17:56his church- and a lot of crops.
- 17:58I don't know why, can't explain it to you, but they have a lot of corn.
- 18:01And- He wasn't making enough money as, at the church apparently.
- 18:03I guess not.
- 18:04You gotta th- pull over on the side of the road in the back of
- 18:07your pickup truck, sell some corn.
- 18:09Um, which that is the best.
- 18:11That's the best produce.
- 18:12Don't go to Walmart.
- 18:13If you see people on the side of the road, and they got watermelons, they got
- 18:15peaches or whatever- Ah … buy that.
- 18:17What about the tamales?
- 18:19Yes.
- 18:20Ooh, okay.
- 18:20Yes, absolutely.
- 18:21Yeah.
- 18:21You can trust that food.
- 18:23Um.
- 18:24Truck bed food.
- 18:25Sorry.
- 18:26W- That's amazing.
- 18:28He has lost his faith in God after his wife's death, and this movie kind
- 18:34of ends up being a lot, about a lot more than just this alien invasion.
- 18:38It's these characters, the two adult characters kinda represent people
- 18:42who have faith in uncertain times and people who do not believe- Yeah … in
- 18:47anything higher power, supernatural.
- 18:50Like I, the rabbit hole that I said I could get into with this movie- Yeah,
- 18:53yeah … is like the, kinda the spiritual stuff, but- Oh, 'cause to me, that is
- 18:56what the movie, that's the center of it.
- 18:59Like, the aliens- Well, yeah … for me are I was watching the movie.
- 19:03For me, it's like, oh, the aliens are almost just like a side- To like, story.
- 19:09And like, for us as a Christian, yeah, like it would be- Yes … like
- 19:12the aliens of the Sad Street.
- 19:13Yes.
- 19:13And then like the, the main thing is, yeah, like going from like hating
- 19:16God, being angry at God- Mm … to like realizing, okay, all of this-
- 19:20Yeah … did happen for a reason.
- 19:21Yeah.
- 19:23I truly, I loved this movie.
- 19:26I really liked it.
- 19:28Mm-hmm.
- 19:28And I've told so many people that they need to watch it.
- 19:31My mom even likes this movie.
- 19:33Yeah.
- 19:33And she doesn't like scary stuff.
- 19:35Like, when I told her we were gonna watch this, she's like, "Oh yeah, that's
- 19:38a good movie." And I was like, "What?
- 19:39You?
- 19:40You like it?" But I feel like it accelerates, like it just, it
- 19:45starts and then it goes so quickly.
- 19:47Mm-hmm.
- 19:47I mean, just like, 'cause things keep, like just start happening so fast.
- 19:50Um, so I thought, I hated how the poor kid… I thought of you when
- 19:54you were talking about I don't like movies with- … about animals-
- 19:59Yeah … mental illness, and I was like, dang, poor kid had to kill his dog.
- 20:03But I watched like an interesting theory- Okay
- 20:06about that because- Maybe those are my questions.
- 20:08Okay.
- 20:08Go ahead.
- 20:09Because like, you know, the dog starts acting weird, like, 'cause the dog
- 20:12pees, and then they take him outside.
- 20:14Yeah.
- 20:15And like in that scene where like the dog starts like growling at Bo, like
- 20:19barks at Bo- Mm-hmm … there's like a little flicker in the background, and
- 20:24so it's like we know that these aliens, like you find out later that they
- 20:27can, uh, like camouflage their skin.
- 20:30So it's like, was he truly barking at an alien that was like already on the roof?
- 20:33Oh.
- 20:35That they like mistook it that he was like barking at Bo-
- 20:38Yeah … and so he killed him.
- 20:39But I don't know.
- 20:41I mean- … because like then they talk about like when the cop shows
- 20:44up, she's like, yeah, they're saying that like animals in other counties
- 20:46are like starting to act weird too.
- 20:48So it's like well maybe that's just… You know, it's like the really creepy
- 20:51thing that like animals can tell like when something's going down- Yeah … which
- 20:54is so creepy to me, and I feel like for me gives me kind of like a well
- 20:58maybe there is kind of like, I don't know, almost like alternate dimensions.
- 21:03Like we can't- I believe that
- 21:05see.
- 21:05Yeah.
- 21:06Yeah.
- 21:06So that was… What was your question that you feel like you had?
- 21:11I think it's weird that the dad did not ask any questions when he walks
- 21:15up and there is a knife sticking out of- You're right … the dog's chest.
- 21:19You, this is the very beginning of the movie.
- 21:21You don't really know… Like, the alien discussion has not been had.
- 21:25Right.
- 21:26It's just you think that somebody has messed up your crops, this is
- 21:29weird, and the dog has peed, fine.
- 21:33A- also, revert back.
- 21:35Why was the child just manning the grill?
- 21:38Did you notice that?
- 21:39He's just- Uh … on the grill, some hot dogs.
- 21:41You're right.
- 21:41He's a full-on child.
- 21:42But anyway- but the dad comes back, they're like, "Hey, I don't hear my
- 21:46kids." So that's, that's- "They're quiet." That is weird That's why
- 21:48sh- that- Which that's another point … that's normal- No, no, like you
- 21:51don't- … because I feel like any parent that's like, "If there's silence-" Okay
- 21:54… "something's going on with my kids."
- 21:55But you would hear little Billy taking down a German shepherd.
- 22:00Yeah, they probably would've been screaming.
- 22:02Yeah.
- 22:02And then he just, he, the kid is ca- I would've been asking that cop to take my
- 22:06child to the psych ward- Oh … because he's calmly sitting there- Yeah … just
- 22:11by the carcass, little girl's up there, and he's like, "He fell on me."
- 22:15No.
- 22:15That was weird.
- 22:16No, buddy, he did not.
- 22:17You clearly stabbed- Yeah … this dog in the chest.
- 22:20And why does he just have a knife?
- 22:23Well, he had it at the grill.
- 22:24He, with tongs.
- 22:25I don't think, yeah, it wasn't a knife though, was it?
- 22:27It was like a- Was it tongs?
- 22:27It was like a little- Little twee … did he get it with tongs?
- 22:30You know that thing that- That makes more sense
- 22:31that thing that we threw out the other day- But- … 'cause we're like, "We
- 22:33never use this." Oh, the- The cheesecloth?
- 22:35No, it's like a meat- No, it's a, like a m- The big fork … it's
- 22:38like a meat fork or something.
- 22:40With two prongs on it.
- 22:40Oh.
- 22:40Yeah.
- 22:40That we were like, "We don't know what you use this for." It was a big fork.
- 22:44And we, yeah, we found it.
- 22:44We were cleaning and we found it in the, you know- Yeah … the utensils,
- 22:47Oh, yeah … container or whatever.
- 22:48Okay, maybe that's- Maybe it was that What is this?
- 22:50I thought it was like a little ax or something.
- 22:51Okay, that would make sense, 'cause he was making hot dogs, and I could see
- 22:53how you could stab a hot dog and- Yeah
- 22:54and have that.
- 22:55So m- okay, 'cause I was like, you just have, you just happen to have
- 22:59a kitchen knife outside with you when you're taking the dog to water?
- 23:02Huh.
- 23:03Come on.
- 23:03I really appreciate how you, like, really get, you observe the very fine details.
- 23:10I really appreciate that about you, 'cause I, I also just think sometimes I'm like,
- 23:14"Duh," because I didn't catch any of that.
- 23:18I think maybe it's easier for you to suspend your disbelief
- 23:22sometimes maybe, 'cause I'm sitting there- Um … I'm like, "What?
- 23:24Hold up." Maybe- "The logistics of this don't make sense to me." Are you gullible?
- 23:29Are you a gullible person?
- 23:30Um, in some situations, but- Overall you would say- I like to
- 23:33think I'm very skeptical- Okay
- 23:34of people and situations in general.
- 23:37And I bet you are a fabulous people watcher.
- 23:39Oh, I love to do that.
- 23:40Yeah, okay, that tells me a lot, because I am not the most observant, obviously.
- 23:46And so I just really appreciate that you're like, you just have
- 23:48all these thoughts, and I'm like, "Well, yeah, he killed his dog."
- 23:52Crazy.
- 23:52Well, when I was younger, I didn't think anything of it.
- 23:55I was like, "Oh, no, he had to do that." But- I c- … watching it back
- 23:58as an adult, I'm kinda- Okay … like, "Wait a minute." I was gonna ask, like-
- 24:02The math ain't mathing, young man.
- 24:03Okay.
- 24:03Yeah.
- 24:04Good thought.
- 24:05I don't know.
- 24:05Anyway.
- 24:06I don't know.
- 24:07Don't know the… But that is an interesting thing K- so
- 24:11they can camouflage their skin?
- 24:13They can.
- 24:13Do we see that elsewhere in the movie?
- 24:14You do.
- 24:14Where'd that happen?
- 24:15So at the very end, when he, like, when the alien is holding
- 24:19Morgan- Yeah … you can like… it, like, zooms in on his hand.
- 24:23And, like, at first you probably just realize, like, oh, it's the alien
- 24:25that he cut his fingers in the pantry.
- 24:27Yeah, yeah.
- 24:27But his hand has camouflage, and it matches the plaid shirt-
- 24:31Oh … that he's wearing.
- 24:33I missed that.
- 24:33Uh-huh.
- 24:34So they can shape-shift, or not shape-shift, that's not… But
- 24:37they can camouflage their skin.
- 24:39So they think that they all left, but they maybe didn't.
- 24:43But they also were able to- And they're like, "They fled 'cause
- 24:45people figured out how to beat them," but maybe they didn't all go.
- 24:47Well, I think a few, like, that maybe were injured probably got left behind.
- 24:50Oh, yeah, they did say that.
- 24:51But also, like, their ships, they were able to cloak their ships too, right?
- 24:54Yes.
- 24:55Yeah.
- 24:55Yeah.
- 24:56Yeah.
- 24:56Which that was spooky.
- 24:57Yeah.
- 24:58Mm, mm-hmm.
- 24:58Um- The news footage?
- 25:00Yeah.
- 25:00Yeah.
- 25:00And, like, the bird.
- 25:01Like, he's like, it says, like, it showed a bird, like- Yeah
- 25:03flying into it.
- 25:05Yeah.
- 25:06So yeah.
- 25:06So I mean, it starts quick with kids having to kill his dog, and then one
- 25:09of the most iconic, he, like, wakes up because his daughter's standing
- 25:13there, and she's like, "There's a monster outside my room. Can I have
- 25:16a glass of water?" And I'm like, "Ma'am- Yeah … what? What do you mean
- 25:20there's a monster outside your room?"
- 25:22So a quick little… Our neighbors here have moved, and I feel kind of sad about
- 25:26it, because, you know, we've lived here for, like, s- a long, n- I don't know
- 25:29how many years at this point, but… And they just left, and they didn't say bye.
- 25:33But so this house has been pitch black for the past couple, like,
- 25:36probably since, like, early May.
- 25:38And the night that I watched this movie, Jay was up.
- 25:42It was, like, 3:00 in the morning.
- 25:43So I had to get up, walk down this hallway, and these bl- blinds were open.
- 25:48And I was like, "Do not look out that window. Don't look out the window. Don't
- 25:51look out the window, because you're gonna see an alien standing there."
- 25:54That, like, scene whenever he, like, looks out the window, and, like, you
- 25:57can see the alien on the roof- Yeah
- 26:00spooked me so bad, and it's, like, how you almost can't see it.
- 26:04But, like, it's there.
- 26:05I thought that was, like- Just it scared me so bad.
- 26:09Yeah.
- 26:09Them running around the house- Was so- … him screaming- It was
- 26:13hilarious … it was hilarious.
- 26:13That was funny.
- 26:13That was so funny.
- 26:14It's like, I'm insane with anger.
- 26:15Yeah.
- 26:16Yeah.
- 26:16I had forgot about that.
- 26:18Yeah.
- 26:18Um, that part where, and like, Meryl is, like, hyping him up, like, "You're
- 26:22gonna do this, and you're gonna say cuss words," and he's like, "Cuss words?"
- 26:26It's like, it sounds weird when I curse.
- 26:27Yeah.
- 26:28But I- … I had written that scene, like when before they go outside,
- 26:32there, there's, like, the motion lights that come on, so, like,
- 26:34you know something's out there.
- 26:36I feel like motion lights, ever since I watched this as a kid,
- 26:40I- it's always freaked me out.
- 26:41Yes.
- 26:42'Cause, like, you know, the thought of well, something goes off, that
- 26:44means, like, if they turn on, that means something's out there.
- 26:47Yeah.
- 26:47And what is out there?
- 26:48I'm always just like, "It's an animal.
- 26:49It's an animal.
- 26:50It was a squirrel." Yeah.
- 26:51Has to be.
- 26:52Do you guys have motion lights at your house?
- 26:54We did when I was growing up.
- 26:55Oh, okay.
- 26:56And my dad was, which is probably why I'm kind of warped today, it was because
- 27:02my dad used to play music in a band, and so when he would go play a show, my
- 27:08mom would stay home with me and with my sister, and we would watch scary movies.
- 27:11The only time we could watch them was when he was not around-
- 27:14Oh … 'cause he would scare us.
- 27:15He would do something.
- 27:16Oh, really?
- 27:16He'd be like, oh, or h- when I was younger, he smoked.
- 27:19He's like, "Oh, I gotta go smoke," but then he'd go around the side of the
- 27:21house and, like, bang on the window.
- 27:22Oh, yeah.
- 27:23But then, like, as I got older, he had quit smoking, but he was still playing
- 27:26music, and one day- The show, like, ended early or whatever, and he came home.
- 27:33But he coasted into the driveway, lights off- … so we
- 27:36couldn't see or hear him coming.
- 27:38Oh.
- 27:39And he came up, and he knocked on the door.
- 27:43Yeah.
- 27:43And he was just, like he didn't just come in.
- 27:45I don't know why.
- 27:46I think he he didn't intend to, like, go all out trying
- 27:48to scare us, but he heard it.
- 27:51We all, like, crowded up to the door and we're like, "Who is it?"
- 27:53And then he realized we were scared, and he was like, "Oh, can't waste this
- 27:56opportunity." So he went around the side of the house- Uh-huh … where there was
- 28:00the laundry room, and anybody who knows us, has ever been in our house knows that
- 28:04door was, like, had stuff in front of it.
- 28:06We didn't use it.
- 28:07Okay.
- 28:07He was banging on that, trying to open it.
- 28:09Oh.
- 28:09And we were like, " Somebody's here." Goes around further to the other
- 28:12side of the house- Oh … where there is the motion light.
- 28:14Oh.
- 28:14So now we know that whoever's trying to get in the house is in the backyard.
- 28:18Glass door- Oh … to that one.
- 28:20Easy.
- 28:21So my mom was like, "Go to the back of the house." And I was
- 28:24like, "I don't wanna go by myself."
- 28:25I was a child.
- 28:27And so I'm there with my big teddy bear.
- 28:29Oh.
- 28:29And following her around.
- 28:30Your poor mom.
- 28:31She gets the gun out.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:34Is standing at the phone, which is right next, the corded phone.
- 28:37Uh-huh.
- 28:38This is wh- this is the time we lived in.
- 28:39Yeah.
- 28:40At the glass door, and gun in this hand- … phone in this hand.
- 28:44He comes up the steps of the deck and can see her like this, and he goes, "Oh."
- 28:50He was like… He's like trying on his, "It's, it's me.
- 28:55It's me." I took it too far.
- 28:56Yeah.
- 28:56And he was like, "Uh-oh." He just froze, and she's on the phone with 911.
- 29:00She goes, "This is Phyllis," "Aah," screams in the phone to 911.
- 29:05And then goes, sees it's him, goes, "Never mind," and hung up.
- 29:10And guess what?
- 29:11Guess who never came by?
- 29:12The police?
- 29:13The police.
- 29:14They didn't come check?
- 29:15No.
- 29:15Gu- guess where my mother worked.
- 29:18Was she a dispatcher?
- 29:19The city hall.
- 29:20She signed their paychecks.
- 29:22She's like- And so she was like, "I know y'all know my name. It's
- 29:27on all your paychecks." So whoever got that phone call, nobody called.
- 29:32No.
- 29:32But- That deserves a follow-up
- 29:33so the, yes.
- 29:34And so my dad, but we knew, like that mo- So now just motion lights, it
- 29:39takes me right back there and that- That is terrifying … terrible, like
- 29:42paralyzing fear- Yes … 'cause I thought we were a fish in a barrel.
- 29:45That- 'Cause it was just the three of us at home.
- 29:46Yeah.
- 29:46It was so, so scary.
- 29:48Where was Ben?
- 29:48Was he- So my, there's a huge age gap- Uh-huh
- 29:52between my siblings and me, each one of us.
- 29:54And so- Once I hit like eight years old- Uh-huh … my brother was in college.
- 30:01Oh, okay.
- 30:01And so my sister would just, like come back from wherever she wa- She
- 30:04was just home- Yeah … all the time.
- 30:06Yeah.
- 30:06She was grown and married and all that stuff, but she would just be in
- 30:09town for the weekend or something.
- 30:10Okay.
- 30:11And so we just happened to be having a little girls movie night.
- 30:14Wow.
- 30:14And we were by ourselves.
- 30:15Yeah.
- 30:16That could have turned terribly wrong.
- 30:18Absolutely.
- 30:19Did your dad like, was he like?
- 30:21No, he laughed about it.
- 30:22'Cause then the police did call later, and on the call waiting it was, she
- 30:26was like she's like, "You answer it. You're gonna have to tell them what
- 30:28you did." Oh, so they did call back?
- 30:31Yes.
- 30:31That's good.
- 30:32Hang tight.
- 30:33My dad owned a furniture store.
- 30:34Uh-huh.
- 30:35And there was an alleyway in the back.
- 30:36And they were like, "Is this Mr. Dial?" And he was like, "Yes." And you
- 30:40would think that the call would say, "We received a, a disturbing call-"
- 30:44from this phone number.
- 30:46Is your family okay?" No. "Mr.
- 30:48Dial, there's a mattress in the alleyway at the back of your store.
- 30:51We just wanted to make sure you knew it was there, and that
- 30:53that was supposed to be there.
- 30:55It wasn't inventory that was left out." What the heck? And he was like, "Yeah.
- 30:58I'll come check on it."
- 31:01And my mom was so mad.
- 31:03Yeah.
- 31:03Do you, I wonder if that was like, I wonder if they were trying to catch him
- 31:06in something or like… I don't know.
- 31:09I don't know.
- 31:10Okay, that's scary.
- 31:10I, I don't think it was that sophisticated, but that's very
- 31:13nice of you to… you, at one point you did say, "I have faith
- 31:17in humanity, but it is dwindling."
- 31:19Yeah.
- 31:20I don't know.
- 31:21Okay, really quick.
- 31:21That reminds me, so one time, it's kind of a similar story.
- 31:24So we were at like, we had like a youth girl slumber party, and they
- 31:28were telling uh, this was all staged, but like our youth director's wife
- 31:32was like telling us a scary story.
- 31:33And of course, like at the climax of the story, right, there's like they, the
- 31:37guys had come, snuck to the back and like set off like a bottle bomb or something.
- 31:42They like did something.
- 31:43They like put dry ice in a water bottle or- Oh, and then close it
- 31:47up- Yeah … so it'll explode?
- 31:48Exactly, yes.
- 31:49Okay.
- 31:49And so they did that, and of course we all lose it.
- 31:52And then maybe 10 li- minutes later the cops show up because the neighbors-
- 31:58Mm-hmm … had heard this bomb go off and us screaming so loudly.
- 32:02They were like, "Something is happening over there." Yeah.
- 32:04And so they called the cops.
- 32:05As they should have.
- 32:06Yeah.
- 32:06And, and so my youth pastor had to be like, "It was me. I was pulling a prank
- 32:11on my youth girls." Would you call the co- I feel like now we're in a society where,
- 32:17and I don't know if I would, 'cause people just wanna mind their own business 'cause
- 32:19they don't wanna get involved in- Yeah
- 32:21something bad that happens.
- 32:22I don't know if I, if I heard a scream in our neighborhood, I don't
- 32:26know if I would call the cops.
- 32:28I think I would.
- 32:29You think you would?
- 32:30I guess it's- I mean, it depends on the scream, I guess I guess,
- 32:34yeah, it depends on the scream and like- I guess … like the, any
- 32:37other surrounding sounds behind it.
- 32:39Yeah.
- 32:39But I mean, it's not like I'm gonna get like a bill or anything.
- 32:41Now if I got like charged, if like the police gave me like a bill for like
- 32:45calling and there was like no big deal- Mm-hmm … then probably not, but…
- 32:48I guess I just wouldn't wanna be… If it w- it turned out to be nothing-
- 32:52Uh-huh … or they like couldn't find anything, I'd feel bad like, "Oh,
- 32:56so I'm sorry I wasted your time."
- 32:57Or like, uh- Yeah … you know?
- 32:58Or you don't want them to think you're crazy or whatever, or like in the
- 33:03if it is something, I don't wanna be the one that ratted out and then
- 33:07you get… Well, but I mean, do you think that would be an anonymous call?
- 33:14I don't know.
- 33:15People will be getting information somehow.
- 33:18You're right.
- 33:18These criminals.
- 33:20They figure things out.
- 33:21I don't know.
- 33:21I know, like, when we went on our cruise, the couple next to us, like, got
- 33:25into, like, a domestic, and I did call.
- 33:28Oh.
- 33:28I was like, "Hey, there's something going down, like, in our neighbor's
- 33:30room. They are … There's, like, screaming and fighting and, like-
- 33:33things being thrown and kids crying in there. Like, something's going on." Ooh.
- 33:36So I did call.
- 33:37But then I, like, every time I, like, walked by the room until I get into our
- 33:40room, I was like- Yeah … like this.
- 33:43They, they know it was me.
- 33:43Yeah.
- 33:44Yeah.
- 33:44And it could- Yeah … have been, like, either us or the other
- 33:47room on the other side- Right
- 33:48of them, but.
- 33:48It was 50/50.
- 33:49Yeah.
- 33:50No, that's hilarious.
- 33:52I like that your mom she's a fighter.
- 33:53I like that.
- 33:55Well, she had the safety on the whole time unbeknownst to her.
- 33:57Oh.
- 33:57So even if she had tried to shoot him, she couldn't.
- 33:59Oh.
- 33:59But she really did look, she looked like she knew what she was doing.
- 34:01Did you see her holding the gun?
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:04And you were like, "Oh, no." I was like- Like, "That's serious mommy gun."
- 34:06… "Mom, Mom, Mom." And she was like, that's why she was like, "Stay back here." Ah.
- 34:09But I definitely did not.
- 34:12You're like, "I gotta watch this go down." Yeah.
- 34:13That's crazy.
- 34:14Sorry.
- 34:15Motion lights.
- 34:16Yeah, I was gonna say again, once again, how did he get here?
- 34:19Yeah, I thought it was funny 'cause, like, he goes like, "I'm insane with anger." And
- 34:23then I think- … he sees, like, they're like, he sees the shadow of it running.
- 34:27Mm-hmm.
- 34:27And that's when he's like, "I'm gonna beat your butt." Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:30Beat your … Or maybe that was Merle.
- 34:32I loved Merle.
- 34:34Meryl?
- 34:35Yeah.
- 34:35So much.
- 34:36Yeah.
- 34:37I thought he was good.
- 34:37That's a good character.
- 34:39Um, and then it's just crazy.
- 34:42Like, it goes from that, and then all of a sudden, like, the same news
- 34:45report is everywhere of, like, all of these crop circles and, like,
- 34:47this guy talking about the aliens.
- 34:49And then, like, whenever they go into town, and Meryl goes to the,
- 34:53um, the recruiter office- Yeah
- 34:56and I was like, "Holy cow, that drill sergeant or whatever that guy was, he
- 35:00knew exactly what was happening," 'cause he's talking about how enemies will, like,
- 35:04send in a team, like a tactic team, to, like, figure out, to, like, scope it out-
- 35:08Mm-hmm … and then they report back.
- 35:10Yeah.
- 35:10And I'm like, "That's what they this initial set of aliens were doing."
- 35:13They were, like, scoping, 'cause that's, like, why they
- 35:15weren't killing people at first.
- 35:17And he seems like a crazy person.
- 35:19You're like, "Oh man, what a conspiracy theorist," but he's like-
- 35:21Exactly … that guy was right.
- 35:23That guy was right.
- 35:23But then there was also the conspiracy theorist that was like, "They're
- 35:25just trying to sell more sodas."
- 35:27Yeah.
- 35:27He's like, "13 commercials." So, like, some of these people could
- 35:30be right, but some of them are not.
- 35:32And the crazy thing is you just never know.
- 35:34Yeah, and how sad is it that watching that in 2026, the soda can guy was,
- 35:39like, doesn't seem as crazy as some of the people that you interact with on the
- 35:43daily with some of the conspiracies that are out and about in the world right now.
- 35:47For sure, yeah.
- 35:48So I'm kinda like, "Yeah, I mean, I don't think so, man, but you do you." It
- 35:52doesn't even bother- like, in 2002, that probably was crazy to hear a man say that.
- 35:56Yeah.
- 35:58But now you're just kinda like, "Eh." Yeah.
- 35:59That's just old Jerry.
- 36:00Right, yeah.
- 36:01He's just, "Oh, he's o- he's off his meds again- … or something like that."
- 36:05Yeah.
- 36:05I thought the pharmacist doing her confession, and she's
- 36:09like, "I said," what was it?
- 36:11I wrote it down.
- 36:12She cursed 37 times, and then she's like, "Well, is douchebag bad?" And he's like,
- 36:17"I guess it depends on the context." And then she goes, "Okay, well, I cursed 71
- 36:22times." I thought that was just so funny.
- 36:24Who is that girl?
- 36:25She- we looked her- we were like, "Man, we've seen her before." Yeah.
- 36:28What was it we had seen her in recently?
- 36:30Uh, she was in The Walking Dead, but there was something else.
- 36:32She was in The Walking Dead.
- 36:34Gosh, hold on.
- 36:36Oh, she's in Severance, if you watch Severance that's where
- 36:39we- Yes … recognized her.
- 36:40So the guy who has the beard, and he gets to go back and forth or whatever-
- 36:44Oh, that's his wife … is his wife.
- 36:45Yeah.
- 36:45Oh, that's right.
- 36:47Yeah.
- 36:48So yeah.
- 36:49And then I liked how he like, how Morgan like picked up that book.
- 36:54I thought it was interesting how that… And I was like, this must be
- 36:56like a bookkeeper, like a bookstore.
- 36:58She like knew exactly where that book was.
- 37:00Oh, yeah.
- 37:01I don't know if you like caught all that, but I was like, wow, that's
- 37:03impressive, like that whole store.
- 37:05Yeah.
- 37:05She's like, "I got exactly what you need." Yeah.
- 37:07And also that he reads a few pages of this book, and all of a
- 37:10sudden is like super qualified to tell everybody about every alien-
- 37:13He's- … thing ever … but he's right.
- 37:15But he is right.
- 37:16He's got it figured out.
- 37:17Maybe that's his quirk, 'cause like they each have- For sure … a quirk, right,
- 37:21that helps them survive- Yeah … which is like coincidence but not, right?
- 37:25Yeah.
- 37:25So like the water with the girl.
- 37:27What was her name?
- 37:28Meryl?
- 37:28Swinging all the time.
- 37:30Strike, the strikeout guy swings at everything.
- 37:32Yeah.
- 37:32And then I was like, what about the little boy?
- 37:34But I guess maybe his like super, I guess hyperfixation on information-
- 37:39Yeah … it did help them.
- 37:40Yeah, for sure.
- 37:42Yeah, I wrote… Okay, I said Bo's autistic when it comes to her water.
- 37:47Or is she an angel?
- 37:51You know, like sh- 'cause she had, like, all of these, like
- 37:54She had, like, dreams.
- 37:56Like, I feel like she had, like, a gift of, uh, prophecy.
- 37:59But then Morgan's, like, he's like, yeah, r- he can, like,
- 38:03almost, like, a photogenic memory- Yeah … and can memorize this book.
- 38:07And then I had, catch me throwing out my baby monitor, because-
- 38:11For real … that scene I think stuck with me all these years.
- 38:14Like, it will always give me the heebie-jeebies.
- 38:17And I'm like, is this picking them up from their spaceship or,
- 38:19like, from the aliens on Earth?
- 38:21Yeah, the ones that they can't see that are right around them.
- 38:23I don't know.
- 38:23But it did once they g- the higher they got, the better, so maybe it was
- 38:26the one- In the sh- … in the sky.
- 38:28Yeah.
- 38:29Or one on the roof that they didn't know about.
- 38:31Yeah.
- 38:31I don't know.
- 38:32And that's just a theory.
- 38:33Yeah.
- 38:33I don't know if it's confirmed or not, but let's see.
- 38:36And I just think I really liked how the dad went from, like, being
- 38:41such a skeptic into, like, slowly kinda, like, surrendering and to
- 38:45being like, okay, this is real.
- 38:47Like, I do have to deal with this alien invasion.
- 38:51Yeah.
- 38:51But then also, like, the whole monologue with him and Meryl on the couch, and
- 38:54he's like, "There's, like, the two type of people that kinda like- Mm-hmm
- 38:57faith in these crazy situations, and then people with- without
- 39:00faith." And he's like, it's like all up, up to chance basically.
- 39:05Yeah.
- 39:05Watching this I was like, oh, it is, like, there is such a deeper- … battle here.
- 39:10Yeah.
- 39:10And he was so angry.
- 39:11Yeah.
- 39:11You know, like he had left the church, and then for him to tell Merle, like,
- 39:17do you rem- when he w- it was really sad when he said like, you remember the l-
- 39:21do you remember the last thing she said to me, and she told him to swing away.
- 39:25Oh, yeah.
- 39:25And he was like, "You know what that meant?"
- 39:27And he was like, "Nothing." Right.
- 39:29And in that moment he really believed that.
- 39:31You're so right.
- 39:32But then that ended up being the thing that saved them, and he was
- 39:35like- Yeah … he flashed back to it and he was like, oh, this is real.
- 39:39Yeah.
- 39:39This, there is a reason to all of this.
- 39:41This is … that was a terrible thing that happened, but that prepared us
- 39:46for this moment to be able to survive.
- 39:48Yeah, 'cause if she hadn't have said that, he would have
- 39:51never- … that would have come to him.
- 39:53Yeah.
- 39:53And, like, how would they have defeated them?
- 39:54Because that's how they figured out that, like, they can't- The
- 39:57w- yeah, the water and all that.
- 39:57Yeah, yeah.
- 39:58Wow.
- 39:59I didn't catch that until just now.
- 40:02Yeah.
- 40:03Like, I knew everything else kinda fell into place, but that specific
- 40:06connection Yeah, 'cause he was like, "Oh, well, the her- you know,
- 40:10the neurons in her brain were just firing. It meant nothing." Right.
- 40:13She was just… It was just a memory.
- 40:14She was- Yeah.
- 40:15And I was like, "Man, that is a very cold and- Yeah … like empty view." Yeah.
- 40:23And like I can see how, you know, when, I don't…
- 40:31Not to get too- No … spiritual or whatever, but when the Bible
- 40:34talks about like we don't grieve as people who have no hope.
- 40:38Yeah.
- 40:39I don't, I didn't grow up around a lot of people, seeing them grieve that way,
- 40:43'cause we grew up in the Bible Belt.
- 40:45So like I knew people who are not believers who have lost someone,
- 40:48but not super close to me.
- 40:50So to see someone depict it on screen, to be able to say that and be like, "I
- 40:56don't think this means anything." Yeah.
- 40:59To be able to see that played out, I didn't register it as a young person.
- 41:03But watching it as adult, it hits differently and you kinda can
- 41:06process those things- Yeah … and understand people in a different way.
- 41:09Also easy to miss on the first watch through.
- 41:12Yeah.
- 41:12Uh-huh.
- 41:13'Cause they're so quiet, their conversation.
- 41:15Yeah.
- 41:15Yeah.
- 41:16Yeah.
- 41:16But very intense.
- 41:17'Cause that's like whenever they first like are seeing the lights
- 41:20pop up, I think, and they're like watching the news- Yeah … together.
- 41:24Yeah.
- 41:25Wow.
- 41:26Thank you for saying that.
- 41:27Very powerful.
- 41:28So that's why I was like, "Y'all, this is so much more than just an
- 41:31alien movie." I was really excited to hear y'all- y'all's thoughts on it.
- 41:34I thought it was just very chilling whenever Morgan is like, "There's
- 41:38two reasons they're coming to Earth, to make contact and learn
- 41:41more about us, or they're hostile."
- 41:43Yeah.
- 41:43And I was like, "Okay, bye." Like are you kidding me?
- 41:46That's so scary.
- 41:48They've like used all their resources.
- 41:49But then at the end, they're talking about how they were harvesting people.
- 41:56So it's like, did people get abducted?
- 41:59Like you hear Merrill say like a lot of people died.
- 42:02Mm-hmm.
- 42:02But do you know like if people were just- Taken captive by these
- 42:06things- I can't remember if they were in the basement or something.
- 42:11At one point, Morgan turns around and y- like, I don't rem- it might've
- 42:14been, like, over his shoulder.
- 42:15He was like, "Yeah, they're hostile." What he realized, it, that it, he sa-
- 42:20had said earlier, it's one of the two, and then he was like, "Oh, can confirm.
- 42:26Was it whenever he… I'm trying to remember.
- 42:30Is it, like, whenever he whenever Graham was like, "I had a feeling that he was
- 42:36wanting to that he wanted to hurt me"?
- 42:39Whenever he, like, went to the alien that was in the pantry.
- 42:42Oh, oh, oh.
- 42:44It might have- When he was telling them about that.
- 42:46Yeah.
- 42:46I don't remember.
- 42:47I know what you're talking about.
- 42:48That's honestly probably where I would've died in this movie.
- 42:50Yeah.
- 42:50I would open the pantry.
- 42:52Oh, you would have?
- 42:52I think so.
- 42:53I'd be curious.
- 42:54Ugh, gosh, no, I would've… I don't think I would've gone inside.
- 42:58Um- I don't know.
- 42:59I might've been too scared.
- 43:00Ugh, that, that whole scene.
- 43:02Yeah.
- 43:03Can we talk about that poor Hispanic little boy is never gonna recover.
- 43:07That truly… His seventh birthday party- Oh, yeah … truly
- 43:10was the worst birthday party.
- 43:12All those kids.
- 43:12When Michael Scott's like, "And that was my worst birthday party." Like, that
- 43:16kid had it beat with, like, an actual alien invasion on his birthday party.
- 43:20Yeah.
- 43:20And I… Someone told me recently that that's, like, considered one
- 43:24of the, like, scariest, um, like, jump scares, like, of all time.
- 43:30I remember when this movie came out, that was one of the images that
- 43:34everybody talked about that, one of the moments in the movie that everybody
- 43:38was like, "Oh, yeah, that scene."
- 43:40Yeah.
- 43:40That and the t- when you see the reflection in the TV.
- 43:42Oh, yes.
- 43:43Um, and I, watching it now, maybe because I know it's coming- Yeah … it doesn't
- 43:49hit me as hard, but I remember when I saw it the first time, the, that news footage
- 43:53of that birthday party freaked me out.
- 43:56Yeah, for sure.
- 43:57All, freaked me all the way out.
- 43:59It was done so well.
- 44:00Mm-hmm.
- 44:01I don't think it was, like, kind of with Alien where, like, Joaquin
- 44:05Phoenix was watching it for the first time and, like, that happened, but I
- 44:08could've, I, or I, I think I would've liked to have seen his reaction to
- 44:13watching that for the first time.
- 44:14I, like, saw an interview where, uh, the director was like, "I want you to
- 44:17wind up, like, in the coats," like, 'cause he, like, stumbles back so far,
- 44:21and he did an excellent job with that.
- 44:23But it, just, like, the way, like, it pauses too on the creature, but it was
- 44:28just weird to me, like, how they was just, like, walking around, like- Yeah … just
- 44:32in broad daylight, and, but I think that's, like, even creepier that they
- 44:36were just scoping- … and, like, just reporting back, and then they're, like,
- 44:40developing, like, their plan of attack.
- 44:42Crazy.
- 44:43Yeah.
- 44:43I put, like, as a millennial, you know, we've, like, had to
- 44:47live… Are you a millennial?
- 44:48Yes, but are you a millennial?
- 44:51Barely?
- 44:51I think you are.
- 44:52You're probably kind of on the line.
- 44:53Yeah, I'm on the line.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:54Gotcha.
- 44:55We've lived through so many end of the world- So many … scenarios.
- 44:59Yeah.
- 45:00Luckily nothing like that, though.
- 45:02No, I don't… Is there anything, like- Aliens?
- 45:06… weirdly- No … supernatural that we would have lived through?
- 45:08I mean- I mean, we've lived through some catastrophic world events, absolutely
- 45:11… the UFO files just got released, so- Well, yeah … there's that … oh yeah.
- 45:13I, you know, we talked about that a couple episodes ago, and I still have
- 45:15not looked up one single thing about it.
- 45:17You're not missing anything.
- 45:18There really isn't a lot of, like, people talking about it, I feel.
- 45:21I think it's just a bunch of footage of basically, you know-
- 45:24Just- … unidentified flying object- Oh … which doesn't really mean much.
- 45:27Yeah … just flying through the sky.
- 45:28Yeah.
- 45:28Okay.
- 45:28I feel like maybe the most, like, supernatural thing that we've lived
- 45:31through was, like, 2012 with, like, the end of the Mayan calendar.
- 45:34There's, honestly, there's nothing I can do about it anyway.
- 45:36A catastrophic world event, there's nothing I can do about it.
- 45:39Yeah.
- 45:40Do you feel like… My, so my friend and I at work, we talk about this sometimes.
- 45:43Say, like, the zombie apocalypse is happening, okay?
- 45:48Are you fighting?
- 45:49Are you just gonna like are you gonna, are you gonna just try to like
- 45:54make the inevitable happen quicker?
- 45:56You know what I mean?
- 45:58I think for a whi- I don't think that I have it in me to just not try.
- 46:06Okay.
- 46:07But I would definitely if I had Mark with me, I would feel a lot better.
- 46:10Yeah.
- 46:10Because Mark is resourceful, Mark is good.
- 46:13For sure.
- 46:13Hunter, ma- like, as smart as he is with all the tech stuff
- 46:16the man can shoot very well.
- 46:18Oh, really?
- 46:19Like, the I would feel much safer- Uh-huh … with a person who would
- 46:24make good decisions in a situation.
- 46:25I would probably just freak out and freeze up.
- 46:27Right.
- 46:27And then I would just get got.
- 46:30But I would probably always keep a super vial of insulin on me, and
- 46:36I would just, like, if it became inevitable, I would just krkr, and
- 46:39it, and just die of a low blood sugar.
- 46:41Oh, man.
- 46:41Okay.
- 46:42'Cause you- That's my plan to g- if, if I ever had to go, and it had to be my
- 46:46choice, if I had to save myself from a violent death- that's how I would do it.
- 46:50Wow.
- 46:50Okay.
- 46:52I just, it's like I don't wanna go through all of this, fight and kill
- 46:57others, and then just to get like my head bashed in over, like, what?
- 46:59Like, a can of black beans?
- 47:01Oh, for real.
- 47:01Yeah.
- 47:02'Cause sometimes- That's so lame … yeah, 'cause sometimes the
- 47:05people are worse than the monsters.
- 47:06Exactly.
- 47:06That's like, I feel like what Stranger Thing- or not Stranger Things, The Walking
- 47:09Dead- Yeah … turned into, you know?
- 47:11So I think I would probably just- Yeah.
- 47:13I think it depends on, too, what kind of zombie.
- 47:15Yeah.
- 47:16'Cause those zombies you can somewhat outsmart, unless you get caught by a
- 47:19horde, then they, that, you're over with.
- 47:21Yeah.
- 47:22But you could just be quiet.
- 47:23You could, you know.
- 47:24But if it's like the World War Z zombies- Or, uh, 28 Days- … they're
- 47:27fast … 28 Days Later zombies.
- 47:28Yeah.
- 47:28Oh.
- 47:29Then you're in trouble.
- 47:29Those, those are terrifying.
- 47:30Really?
- 47:31I wonder, is 28 Days Later on our list?
- 47:33I don't know.
- 47:34That's probably for me, that's- That's a scary zombie movie
- 47:37that's probably the scariest zombie movie.
- 47:38Really?
- 47:38Yeah.
- 47:39Okay.
- 47:39It's on the list, so we'll, we'll get to it eventually, yeah.
- 47:41Those zombies are terrifying.
- 47:43Regarding their last supper.
- 47:47The fact that he was like, "What do you want for supper? What do you want for
- 47:51supper?" And then you just had all these ingredients- I don't work that way … for
- 47:55this mukbang that you just put together.
- 47:57Mukbang?
- 47:58No… yeah.
- 47:59I have never heard of that.
- 48:01You've never seen a mukbang on YouTube?
- 48:02No.
- 48:03These people just put out a just- a stash of food, and they just eat it on
- 48:09camera, and it's a crap load of food.
- 48:11Oh.
- 48:12Yeah.
- 48:13I don't know- Is it meant to be kind of, like, disturbing?
- 48:15I don't know, but people just watch it.
- 48:17People just watch other people eat- Oh … a lot of food.
- 48:19Absolutely.
- 48:20I've never watched one.
- 48:21As you said, absolutely not.
- 48:21I just know it's a thing.
- 48:22No, abso-fruitly not.
- 48:23Yeah.
- 48:23I mean, it's just, it's just impressive to me that he had all the ingredients to
- 48:28make- Yeah … French toast, spaghetti and meatballs- Yeah … teriyaki chicken,
- 48:32and a bacon cheeseburger with extra bacon.
- 48:35When I'm over here, I will buy all the ingredients to make one meal and find
- 48:40out I forgot to buy 12 ingredients- Yeah.
- 48:42You're like, "Oh" … and have to go back to the store.
- 48:44Yeah.
- 48:44I don't have a lemon, nothing I can do.
- 48:46I guess we gotta eat out tonight.
- 48:48I have to have that lemon zest.
- 48:50Yeah.
- 48:50Darn it.
- 48:51Darn it.
- 48:52Yeah, I know.
- 48:53Yeah.
- 48:53And then, like, to have it actually come out at the same time, it
- 48:57is- That's pretty impressive, really … the struggle is real for-
- 48:59And then they didn't even eat it- Yeah
- 49:01'cause they had that- Well, I mean- … terrible discussion.
- 49:03Well, I mean- But then it ended up- Yeah, but it ended up they,
- 49:06they did at least come together.
- 49:07No, Graham got to- Yeah … he got some of that French toast, and rightfully so.
- 49:11Well, yeah, but he didn't enjoy it.
- 49:12That- Because you know what?
- 49:13And he shoved in the same bite some French toast and some mashed potatoes.
- 49:17But still that- Yeah, that right there … that kid- My guy … I'm
- 49:19just saying he should- No, that's his third fork … have respected the
- 49:21fact- … that his father whipped all that together- Well … simultaneously.
- 49:27But then he goes- And he didn't even have the respect to eat it.
- 49:30Come on now.
- 49:30I was- Yeah.
- 49:31Well- 'Cause then he goes- Yeah
- 49:32"I hate you" in like- Yeah, and I think, like, when I was a kid, I was like- You
- 49:38ungrateful little jerk … but watching it from the perspective now of someone
- 49:46who has lost a parent- Yeah … and you're like, oh, there's a lot of…
- 49:51Even if you love your other parent, which he clearly did, 'cause he came
- 49:54over and he comforted him, laughed, like, you know, like, there is so much anger.
- 49:59Oh.
- 49:59And, like, you saw that with Graham.
- 50:00You saw that with the little boy, not as much with the little girl.
- 50:03But, like-
- 50:06There's that, but you also care about the other people you're with, but you're
- 50:10going through all your stuff, and like their grief story plus his like faith
- 50:16journey and trying to struggle with that, then you have aliens around.
- 50:20That was a high-stress environment.
- 50:21Yeah.
- 50:22And honestly, I think they handled it pretty darn well.
- 50:24I think so too.
- 50:25Yeah.
- 50:25I … if I, putting myself in that situation, like I
- 50:28would've been physically ill.
- 50:30Like, I even felt- Yeah … a little nauseous, honestly, just like watching
- 50:32it, like the fear, the anxiety, and then like there's a plate full of
- 50:36French toast right in front of me.
- 50:38Like, of course I don't have an appetite.
- 50:39No.
- 50:40And I just, it felt a very symbolic of like, "Okay, this
- 50:42is our last meal." Right.
- 50:44And I think they all knew that.
- 50:45There was a heaviness of like, "Yeah, this is supposed to be the last thing that I
- 50:49w- am gonna eat," but like I can't enjoy this, 'cause you know what's coming.
- 50:53Like with a death row meal, can you really enjoy that?
- 50:56You know what is about to come.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:58I don't know.
- 50:59Even though you can be like, "I want T-bone steak and blah, blah, blah,"
- 51:02the most crazy, extravagant things you could ever order up- Yeah … then
- 51:06do you sit there and eat it?
- 51:08That has to be like, to me, that takes a diabolical person to be able to do that.
- 51:12Yeah.
- 51:14So yeah, the, I feel like that scene was really intense.
- 51:17It was intense.
- 51:19I did hate, or, like, when I was watching it, I was like, "Okay,
- 51:22yeah, we're gonna have this moment.
- 51:24We're gonna eat this meal, but, like, you need to board up your house, bro.
- 51:27What are, why are we wasting time?
- 51:29Like, they're here.
- 51:29They're coming- Yeah … tonight." You can hear them outside and
- 51:32they're still boarding up the wall, or boarding up the windows.
- 51:35And after all of that, they forgot the attic.
- 51:39Yeah.
- 51:39Dumb decision.
- 51:41That's d- well, that is a dumb decision.
- 51:43They did miss that.
- 51:43It's one of them.
- 51:44Yeah.
- 51:45Oh, the scene- yowser.
- 51:48When they're in the basement- Oh, yeah … and they're like, oh,
- 51:52they're looking for that coal chute.
- 51:54And they, like, pan the light over it and they see Morgan, and
- 51:58then the hand- Yes … is there.
- 52:00Ah.
- 52:00Yeah, so that's also he was camouflaging his hand.
- 52:03Oh yeah, it was black like the- Uh-huh
- 52:05iron.
- 52:06Yeah.
- 52:06Yeah.
- 52:07Yeah.
- 52:08I thought, okay, that part was scary- … but then funny, but then stupid.
- 52:13Okay, so let me walk you through this, right?
- 52:15So scary because it's there, right?
- 52:19Yes.
- 52:19Like, funny because Merrill is, like, stacking all the stuff, and then you see
- 52:24that can on the ground, and he picks up the can and, like, throws it on the bag.
- 52:28Yeah.
- 52:29But then stupid because I was like, this alien came from outer space-
- 52:35Yeah … and that stack of- Sugar bags or whatever … is what's gonna- Yeah
- 52:40… keep him out of- Those bags of Ol Roy.
- 52:42Oh, was it dog food?
- 52:43That's what's gonna- I think so . I think they won't need it anymore- Oh, it was
- 52:45dog food … 'cause both those dogs…
- 52:47They got.
- 52:48They got, they did.
- 52:49Yeah.
- 52:49When he's like, "We forgot about Isabelle," I was like, "Yeah, you
- 52:52sure did, bro." Yeah, and then they have to listen to it die.
- 52:56Yikes.
- 52:56Traumatizing.
- 52:57Hey, kids.
- 52:57Who wants French toast?
- 52:59Like- Yeah.
- 53:02But isn't that farm living?
- 53:04It w- truly.
- 53:05Ain't that farm living?
- 53:05But this is a Pennsylvania farm- Yeah, the, the-
- 53:08so these folks are out here, 'cause when they thought that the, I don't know, the,
- 53:15the Jimothy and his friend were out on the roof- Oh, yeah … and they thought
- 53:18it was the boys next door or whatever.
- 53:20Right.
- 53:21In the South, there are guns at your farm.
- 53:25Yeah, you, you've said that.
- 53:26And yeah, 'cause we talked about it with the clowns.
- 53:29Yeah.
- 53:29So, any people in the South who have a farm, if you live out, not only
- 53:35just for home protection, but for, like, there are animals that roam
- 53:38around the, the crops and whatnot.
- 53:39Yeah.
- 53:40So I don't know if it's a Pennsylvania thing or if they just, if maybe people do
- 53:46in Pennsylvania and they just wanted to not have that aspect in it for the movie
- 53:51'cause it makes it more suspenseful, but, like, I was like, "Where is your gun?"
- 53:56I- You don't need to run around the house.
- 53:58You need to go outside and shoot up in the air a little bit.
- 54:00Yeah.
- 54:00Let's make them pee their pants and leave.
- 54:03Yeah.
- 54:04If it is human people.
- 54:07But no, but I mean, a gun wouldn't have done anything a- against an alien.
- 54:10Well, maybe.
- 54:10I mean, a bat did.
- 54:12A bat?
- 54:13Oh, I thought- … bat - I mean- Ah, ah
- 54:17but was it, it wasn't the bat though, really.
- 54:19It was the water.
- 54:19I mean, he ch- he chopped- You're right … off the fingers with a-
- 54:22Yeah … chef's knife- So at least it could've … so I mean, they're
- 54:24not in- they're not invincible.
- 54:25No, it could've slowed him down, but it, I don't know would've got… I don't know
- 54:31People out there, like, driving their cars, like, with no arms.
- 54:36What?
- 54:36You know, like, that corn hole… Have y'all heard of this?
- 54:41No, there was, like, a world record corn hole player.
- 54:45Yeah, he shot- Oh … and killed somebody.
- 54:46He doesn't have arms.
- 54:47And he doesn't have any arms.
- 54:48Yeah, I have a lot of questions.
- 54:50How?
- 54:50Just a lot.
- 54:51Okay, there's- I mean, I saw a video of that dude shooting
- 54:53a gun and, he can do it.
- 54:54But where did he hold the gun?
- 54:55How did he throw the corn hole bags?
- 54:57You just need to- You need to go watch it.
- 55:00Just- No, I think you need to- Just go watch footage of, of- With his feet?
- 55:02Did he use his feet?
- 55:03He didn't have feet.
- 55:04In half.
- 55:05He's a torso.
- 55:07That sounds bad, like he have no arms.
- 55:11There's this video that I watched, and it's this drag queen, but
- 55:15he's he does his makeup- Mm-hmm
- 55:17but yeah, he doesn't have arms or legs.
- 55:20And it's this interview with this other drag queen, and he's like, "So you were
- 55:24abandoned at birth. You are, like, gay and a drag queen in a Mormon community."
- 55:32And then he said something else.
- 55:33He doesn't address the fact that he doesn't have arms or legs.
- 55:35And he's like, "Does, do you think that pretty much sums it up?"
- 55:38And the guy goes, "Yeah, think so." No arms.
- 55:42Meanwhile, I'm like, I can't use this Beauty Blender right
- 55:46with my finely functioning legs.
- 55:49Oh my gosh.
- 55:49And then other people are doing, like, intricate- Full face with,
- 55:52like, their shoulder … drag makeup.
- 55:53Yeah.
- 55:53And yeah, that's insane.
- 55:55Yeah.
- 55:55Where… I… Okay, let's try to backtrack.
- 56:00Drag queen, no hands.
- 56:02Corn hole, no hands.
- 56:05Where did we get there?
- 56:07Where did that start?
- 56:08Guns.
- 56:09Guns.
- 56:10Was it the, was it the ali- like, the alien had his fingers cut off?
- 56:13Alien had his fingers- Yeah, alien had his hand chopped off.
- 56:17Next we knew, it wasn't the- The aliens are not invincible to guns-
- 56:19I just- … that's what it is.
- 56:20I just looked at Beth and I could see, like, a tear.
- 56:24What a train of thought we just went down.
- 56:27We definitely chase rabbits here.
- 56:30Yes.
- 56:31Um- I did tear up listening to Graham help Morgan through that asthma attack.
- 56:38Oh, yes.
- 56:39And then, like, he's like, that's like when he's addressing God and
- 56:42he's like, "I hate you." And that like was really emotional for me.
- 56:48Yeah.
- 56:48But then it's like he must be accepting that God is real for him to hate him.
- 56:54Yeah.
- 56:55That, yeah, that's interesting.
- 56:56Kind of like coming back to it.
- 56:58Because up- upstairs he was like, "It's all coincidence,
- 57:01it's all just happenstance."
- 57:03Yeah.
- 57:04Yeah, I didn't, I didn't think about that.
- 57:07I also didn't realize until later that like every time Graham is
- 57:11asleep, he is reliving his wife dying.
- 57:16Oh.
- 57:16That's why he always wakes up with like a startle Which would
- 57:20be terrible to live through.
- 57:21Yeah.
- 57:23Man, and that descri- like, the scene where she's telling
- 57:27him what happened- Yeah
- 57:28to her.
- 57:29Yeah.
- 57:29And basically that she's just being held alive by still being pinned to the tree.
- 57:34Man, that was- That's why- … heavy … I think it's Scary Movie
- 57:393, which you haven't seen any of the Scary Movies, have you?
- 57:42No.
- 57:43They make- I, I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 57:45They … Can I spoil it for you?
- 57:48Yeah.
- 57:48Okay.
- 57:49So they are making fun of, so Scary Movie 3 makes fun of, like,
- 57:52Signs, The Ring, The Village.
- 57:55It's excellent.
- 57:56It's so funny.
- 57:57But they make fun of this scene, and I think Charlie Sheen might be the cop.
- 58:02No.
- 58:03Or- He's the pre- he's the preacher.
- 58:04He's the preacher.
- 58:04Or pastor or priest or whatever.
- 58:05Oh, okay.
- 58:05Yeah, yeah.
- 58:06And I don't remember who's the cop, but, like, the cop keeps trying to ex- like,
- 58:10explain to Charlie, like, what's happened to his wife, and he's got, like, a hot
- 58:14dog, and he breaks the hot dog in half.
- 58:16Is he trying to demonstrate?
- 58:18Yes.
- 58:19And then he brings, like, it's, like, a crunchy taco, and he,
- 58:21like, breaks the taco in half.
- 58:23And I don't remember if he does anything else, but he's like, "This is your wife,"
- 58:27and he's, like, breaking it in half.
- 58:28And he's like, "I'm not understanding what you're trying to tell me." And
- 58:32it's, it's so morbid- … but hilarious.
- 58:36And I don't remember, like, if there's anything, like,
- 58:38super-duper more to that, but- Yeah.
- 58:40you've gotta watch it.
- 58:41It's so good.
- 58:43Let's see, what else?
- 58:45So then, you know, w- at the end, we, like, we find out that the
- 58:48aliens came in to raid the earth.
- 58:50They've left.
- 58:51We don't necessarily know what it is.
- 58:54We find out, that it's water, which is interesting because the vet- … which
- 59:00happened to be who, one, killed- Mm-hmm
- 59:02his wife is kinda pins it 'cause he, like, whenever he calls Graham and
- 59:08then Graham goes to check on him, he's like, "I don't think they like water,
- 59:12so I'm gonna go by the lake." And I wonder, like, if they would've, like,
- 59:16done … Like, if they would've still survived if they had gone to the lake.
- 59:20I don't know.
- 59:21And did he say how he figured that out?
- 59:23I think just kinda, like, watching the news, 'cause, like, it really focused on
- 59:27the crop circles that showed up in India.
- 59:29Uh-huh.
- 59:29And then it was, like, all central to the country.
- 59:32Oh, okay.
- 59:33But I also don't know how you come to that conclusion- Yeah … 'cause,
- 59:35like, you can only make crop circles where there are crops, not necessarily
- 59:38because it's not next to water.
- 59:41Yeah I would have never thought that … naturally that would be a field.
- 59:43Yeah.
- 59:44Probably doesn't have a river running up through it.
- 59:45Yeah.
- 59:46Yeah.
- 59:46I don't know.
- 59:47I don't remem- I don't remember if he said- But yeah,
- 59:48he- … how he deduced that.
- 59:49He, that- that's why.
- 59:51That's what he said?
- 59:51He, he said that they- He just said it was inland
- 59:53it's not, yeah, it's not, they're not near water, so I don't think they like water.
- 59:56But I'm like- That was a lucky guess.
- 59:58Yeah.
- 59:58Right.
- 59:58'Cause that was really not a lot to go off of.
- 1:00:00No, 'cause I, I'm sitting there like, oh man, this, it's crops.
- 1:00:03So they're make- they're making crop circles.
- 1:00:04You have to bring the water to the crops.
- 1:00:06He's got it.
- 1:00:06There you go.
- 1:00:07You know- Yeah … they can't, they can't make the little signs- Hmm … in sand.
- 1:00:12Make the little signs.
- 1:00:13That's true.
- 1:00:14The water would just wash it away.
- 1:00:15Yeah.
- 1:00:15Oh.
- 1:00:16Yeah, because they had the whole vote, that whole scene with the vote
- 1:00:19of- Oh, yeah … do you wanna go, and I'm, I count for two parents, and-
- 1:00:21Yeah, he's like, "That's bull crap."
- 1:00:23Yeah.
- 1:00:23Yeah.
- 1:00:24But, um, and then I guess, was it after that that he was like,
- 1:00:28"We're gonna have all the food"?
- 1:00:29So re- really he had- Yeah … started off on the wrong foot, where he's
- 1:00:32like, "Well, we're gonna do what I say anyway." And then- Yeah … yeah, I
- 1:00:36don't know if they had gone to the lake.
- 1:00:38That was the thought.
- 1:00:38They wouldn't have because all of her water cups would
- 1:00:42not have been laying around.
- 1:00:43Yeah.
- 1:00:44And that also kind of like plays into like the, are the aliens like really demons?
- 1:00:49Mm. So that was like a rabbit hole.
- 1:00:51It's like, it's not an alien at all.
- 1:00:53Like, these are demons that he's fighting with, and that Bo was, like, blessing
- 1:00:58all of the water, and it was holy water that was, like, being left around.
- 1:01:02Is that a theory?
- 1:01:02Yes.
- 1:01:03That's interesting.
- 1:01:05Huh.
- 1:01:05I watched, like, a couple YouTube videos on it.
- 1:01:08That's interesting.
- 1:01:08Oh, I've never thought that.
- 1:01:10And then, you know, if they'd gone to the lake, Morgan probably would not have
- 1:01:15had his asthma attack- Right … which kept him from breathing the toxic- Yeah.
- 1:01:20I alway- like, the first time I watched it, I didn't understand why he was
- 1:01:23like, he kept saying, like, his lungs were closed, his lungs were closed.
- 1:01:26Yeah.
- 1:01:26I was like- I was like, "That's a bad thing. Why are
- 1:01:27you saying that?" Right, yeah.
- 1:01:28But- I was like, "We shouldn't be happy about that," but yeah,
- 1:01:30that's what, that's what saved him.
- 1:01:32Yeah.
- 1:01:32And then he's like, "Did someone save me?" And he's like, "Yeah, someone did." Yeah.
- 1:01:36And so I really enjoyed, like, it was like, it was almost like
- 1:01:40every single detail of this movie mattered, and I really liked that.
- 1:01:44Yeah.
- 1:01:45There wasn't just, like… I feel like some scary movies, like, there's
- 1:01:48just, like, shock factor, like it doesn't do anything for the main story.
- 1:01:51Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:51But this was different.
- 1:01:53Yeah.
- 1:01:53It's a thinker of a scary movie.
- 1:01:57Yeah.
- 1:01:57Which I think even the last two that we've done, so Obsession and Signs,
- 1:02:01have both been movies that you can really dig into the psychology of it,
- 1:02:08of the characters and what's going on and the m- monster or whatever the
- 1:02:13bad thing is that's happening- Yeah
- 1:02:15as opposed to just, like, a slasher-type movie, you know?
- 1:02:19So- Yeah.
- 1:02:20We've, we've done some smart stuff the last couple weeks.
- 1:02:23Yes, lots of thinking.
- 1:02:25Good for us.
- 1:02:26So yeah.
- 1:02:27I think we, that's a good kind of discussion on the movie.
- 1:02:31All right.
- 1:02:32So we've said that it was, you know, smart, so now we gotta talk about
- 1:02:37the dumb decisions that were made.
- 1:02:39Which apparently you had some ideas.
- 1:02:41I've got, I've got a few.
- 1:02:42Okay.
- 1:02:42I've got a few, and you know, we talk about how we roast the victims.
- 1:02:46Yeah.
- 1:02:46Yeah.
- 1:02:47And I'm gonna do that, but I'm also gonna roast the aliens as well.
- 1:02:51Ooh.
- 1:02:52Yeah.
- 1:02:52Because I thought these were some of the dumbest aliens.
- 1:02:57If, you know, if, if there e- ever any other aliens that invaded the planet-
- 1:03:01these were probably the dumbest because- They sent them first
- 1:03:04to see how they would do.
- 1:03:05Yeah.
- 1:03:05Probably so.
- 1:03:06They're like, "Let's, let's send the dumb ones- You send the, send the little
- 1:03:08one first. … first." And so first off you have these aliens that they develop
- 1:03:13this cloaking technology, but then you're gonna get bested by a pantry?
- 1:03:20Yeah, they couldn't turn a doorknob.
- 1:03:21Yeah, couldn't get out of a, couldn't get out of a- … a pantry.
- 1:03:23They just had, like, a little desk propped up against it.
- 1:03:26They're not very strong it doesn't seem.
- 1:03:27No, and then of course, you know, Graham is in that scene, and he, he's
- 1:03:31able to chop off some fingers, and…
- 1:03:33But also that alien knew he was on the other side of that
- 1:03:36door before that happened.
- 1:03:39That Graham was on the other side of the door?
- 1:03:40Yeah.
- 1:03:41Yeah.
- 1:03:41He knew he was on the other side of the door.
- 1:03:42Why didn't he just squirt a little gas under them?
- 1:03:45He has a- Oh.
- 1:03:46There was a huge gap there.
- 1:03:48He could have put an end to that right then and there.
- 1:03:50No, he didn't.
- 1:03:51And then Graham, of course, he learns.
- 1:03:53He, picks up a, probably a Hamilton Beach chef's knife and- … cuts-
- 1:03:59No, it's definitely Cutco.
- 1:04:00Yeah … cuts, cuts this thing's fingers off and so he should have learned from
- 1:04:04that moment, "Hey, they're not invincible. Maybe we should round up some weapons."
- 1:04:11But instead he goes back home and he's like, "Well, they seem to struggle with
- 1:04:17pantries. Let's just board the house up." Which they do a terrible job.
- 1:04:22Well, they had limited time.
- 1:04:24I think they did a pretty good job.
- 1:04:25They just missed one.
- 1:04:26Yeah, but they were… the, the- That's a lot of windows and doors.
- 1:04:29It's a big farmhouse.
- 1:04:30It was a huge house.
- 1:04:31But you, you pointed it out, though.
- 1:04:33The urgency, the sense of urgency of boarding the house
- 1:04:36up- Yeah … just wasn't there.
- 1:04:37That's true.
- 1:04:38And so, and then on top of that, you're sitting there thinking, "Okay. Well,
- 1:04:42I'm just gonna board the house up and they're not gonna get in." You're
- 1:04:48not going to s- think of any plan B?
- 1:04:50Like what if they get in?
- 1:04:52Should I be ready?
- 1:04:53Should I have some weapons?
- 1:04:54Should I, you know, bust out the kitchen knives?
- 1:04:57We're on a farm.
- 1:04:59They have an ax downstairs, so we know he chops wood.
- 1:05:03He's also a priest, so he doesn't have time to be chopping a whole tree down.
- 1:05:06He's got a chainsaw somewhere on that farm.
- 1:05:09And you know what?
- 1:05:09If you're an alien on this planet and you hear a chainsaw starting up,
- 1:05:14you're probably thinking, "Hey, you know what? Maybe I don't wanna be
- 1:05:18in Pennsylvania. Maybe I just wanna go somewhere else and help the other
- 1:05:22aliens out." But- Maybe … instead- It is a startling noise … exactly.
- 1:05:27Who's, who's not gonna be frightened by that?
- 1:05:29But do they know what it is?
- 1:05:30It doesn't matter.
- 1:05:30I mean, it's there.
- 1:05:31No.
- 1:05:31That's the thing.
- 1:05:31'Cause like we're scared about the noise 'cause we know what it is.
- 1:05:34Well, we would associate that with like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 1:05:37Exactly, yeah.
- 1:05:38But I, I just think that, you know, should've rounded up some weapons
- 1:05:42and then, you know- I agree with that
- 1:05:43get ready to defend yourself.
- 1:05:45They didn't do that, which I thought was dumb.
- 1:05:47And then, which I just wanna say I do, I do really like this movie.
- 1:05:51I think it's a great movie.
- 1:05:51I'm ripping on it right now, but it's just because it- This is a
- 1:05:54part of the- This is part of it.
- 1:05:55Yeah.
- 1:05:56So also, you have a basement, right?
- 1:06:00Yeah.
- 1:06:00Shouldn't that be like your planned last line of defense,
- 1:06:03put all your rations down there?
- 1:06:04Put your kids' medicine down there maybe, I don't know, in case, again,
- 1:06:08they break in and you have to fall back.
- 1:06:11They didn't do that.
- 1:06:12But they go down there.
- 1:06:13That's where they end up.
- 1:06:14They've got the ax, barring the door, and now all of the sudden they're
- 1:06:20turning into some brilliant tactician by identifying the fact that, oh,
- 1:06:24wait, they're not trying to get in.
- 1:06:26They're just making noise because they're trying to get into another entrance.
- 1:06:29Is there another way in?
- 1:06:30You don't know your own basement?
- 1:06:32You don't know where the coal chute is in your base- It's not even a big basement.
- 1:06:35This is, they're having to search for the coal chute.
- 1:06:37Where is my coal chute?"
- 1:06:39And so Morgan, Mr. Alien Genius- Yeah … is standing in front
- 1:06:45of like this big gaping hole.
- 1:06:47You don't feel a draft?
- 1:06:49You don't think- They did.
- 1:06:50Once they got closer- You know, they're like- … they're like,
- 1:06:51"I feel the air." You know what?
- 1:06:52Maybe I shouldn't be standing in front of this big hole.
- 1:06:55Yeah.
- 1:06:55And then when, you know, the alien get, that's responsible for getting
- 1:07:00stuck in the pantry somehow finds the coal chute before the homeowner does.
- 1:07:05At which point, what does he do?
- 1:07:07He sticks his hand in there and grabs the child, which is, oh, that's creepy.
- 1:07:10Why didn't he fill the room with gas?
- 1:07:13And then on top of that, they just stack some old Roy up o- on front of the thing.
- 1:07:17They didn't- Yeah … close all it off.
- 1:07:19Shoot some gas in there.
- 1:07:21Why not?
- 1:07:22Maybe that, maybe that was the high IQ move by the alien, though, because
- 1:07:26if they truly have trouble entering the home, and the same thing with
- 1:07:32when he was stuck in the pantry, if you kill the person on the other side
- 1:07:36of the door, they can't let you out.
- 1:07:39And you're stuck there.
- 1:07:40Well, how did he get out?
- 1:07:41Because he left him in there.
- 1:07:43That I cannot answer you.
- 1:07:44Maybe he eventually Maybe he, like, broke a window.
- 1:07:46He used his two fingers to pick the lock.
- 1:07:48Or, you know, his, his buddies- And his cut off fingers … his buddies
- 1:07:51came along and got him, you know?
- 1:07:51Yeah, there was more than one alien.
- 1:07:53Yeah.
- 1:07:53Yeah, they, yeah, they're, he picked up the baby monitor, and he
- 1:07:56was like, "Hey, come get me out of here." Is that the alien language?
- 1:07:58Oh, yeah, they did click- Yeah … in the movie.
- 1:08:00Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:00I thought that came out of nowhere from you.
- 1:08:02And I was like, okay.
- 1:08:03Sorry about that creative.
- 1:08:06So anyway, and then of course, you know, when everything they decide, "Okay, well,
- 1:08:10we're just, we're in this basement."
- 1:08:12And I guess at some point they figure out or they feel comfortable enough
- 1:08:16to sleep for, did he say 12 hours?
- 1:08:18Yeah.
- 1:08:19Yeah.
- 1:08:19Slept for 12 hours?
- 1:08:22What?
- 1:08:22I don't think I could.
- 1:08:24How?
- 1:08:25Gosh dang it, Mark.
- 1:08:26That's a long time.
- 1:08:26You're so right.
- 1:08:27All of this I can't wait to go back and watch this and, like, watch my
- 1:08:30face, 'cause I'm just like Yeah, he slept 12, like, and, and then
- 1:08:33of course, you know, they're like, they just- You know what I mean?
- 1:08:35casually meander out of the basement, like- This is why I won't survive any
- 1:08:39of these movies, 'cause I'm- Yeah, I was sitting here, I was like, I don't
- 1:08:43think anybody made any bad decisions.
- 1:08:44I think they're pretty smart.
- 1:08:46That's like, I'm like, I can't wait to hear what you say, and
- 1:08:49then you speak in straight logic.
- 1:08:51Well, and just, you know, and then they, they casually come out of the basement
- 1:08:54and then- Yeah … you know, don't even, "Hey, let's not even go outside
- 1:08:57and see if they're still kinda hanging around." No, start wheeling the TV out.
- 1:09:02And- He starts dancing … let's turn, let's turn the news on, guys.
- 1:09:06Yeah.
- 1:09:06And of course, I mean, I will say that was a creepy scene, whenever you,
- 1:09:09you know, they roll the TV out and you see the reflection of the alien.
- 1:09:12But anyway, that, that's just the, so that, but I will say this.
- 1:09:15Well, like, first order of business also should've been the medicine,
- 1:09:18which is what they went up for.
- 1:09:20I agree.
- 1:09:20But did anybody ever give him, no, they didn't, because they didn't- No, they
- 1:09:23didn't … his lungs were closed … well, but if they would have, yeah, it,
- 1:09:24his- Right, but that's the reason you came out of the cover of the basement,
- 1:09:28is we gotta go get the medicine.
- 1:09:29'Cause he's like- And then you just lay him on the couch, "Hey, you wanna watch
- 1:09:31some cartoons?" Yeah, they got so excited.
- 1:09:33He's, like, agonal breathing.
- 1:09:34Yeah.
- 1:09:35He's over there struggling to breathe.
- 1:09:37They're like, "Yeah, let's watch, let's turn the TV on, guys." Yeah, like,
- 1:09:39oh, he seems like he's gonna pull out of it, like, we'll just let it slide.
- 1:09:43Is this, this is the- I don't think that's how asthma works … this is the
- 1:09:45M. Night Shyamalan this is his bit, right?
- 1:09:49Like, strong suspense, and then you're like, "What? What are you
- 1:09:52doing?" I guess it- But- Yeah.
- 1:09:54But then, like, okay, but I will say this.
- 1:09:56I do have the dumbest decision award to give.
- 1:10:00Oh, you do?
- 1:10:00I do.
- 1:10:01There's one- There's one more … one greater than anything else?
- 1:10:02There is one more.
- 1:10:02Okay.
- 1:10:03Oh, best for last?
- 1:10:04Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:05Oh, okay.
- 1:10:06Why, if you're this advanced alien race- I see where you're, yep … why are
- 1:10:11you invading a planet that's 71% water?
- 1:10:15Maybe they didn't know, 'cause there's probably no water on their planet.
- 1:10:18Maybe they didn't know that water is their kryptonite There's water everywhere.
- 1:10:22There's water everywhere.
- 1:10:22It's like that- What you mean?
- 1:10:23… that Needtobreathe song that's like, "Bad decisions, they don't
- 1:10:26feel bad at the time." Oh, yeah
- 1:10:27"Consequences, they don't always match the crime." Yeah, they should be like…
- 1:10:30And you can see that water from space.
- 1:10:33You're so right.
- 1:10:33Like, he's like, "You know, oh, yep, look at that." But he seemed surprised.
- 1:10:36That's a lot of water, guys.
- 1:10:38The, the alien seemed surprised when he started, like, smoking
- 1:10:41when the water got on him.
- 1:10:41You're right.
- 1:10:42So I'm saying, like, I think maybe on their planet, maybe there's no water.
- 1:10:45They didn't know what it was.
- 1:10:48To avoid it, and maybe they're like, "Hey, that place has a lot of
- 1:10:53stuff. I'm gonna take it." That's why they left all of a sudden.
- 1:10:55I would wanna take Earth too if I lived on just a rock.
- 1:10:58Hey, you know what, though?
- 1:10:59They, they just need to be glad that they didn't catch us on a rainstorm.
- 1:11:02Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:03That's true.
- 1:11:05What, like acid rain?
- 1:11:07I'm just saying.
- 1:11:08Would be to them.
- 1:11:09That's what I'm saying.
- 1:11:09This- Is acid rain real?
- 1:11:12So acid rain is not actually rain.
- 1:11:15It is, like, when the rain falls through polluted air- Oh … and
- 1:11:20it picks up the contaminants.
- 1:11:22Ah.
- 1:11:22But yeah, so.
- 1:11:25I did have that thought, 'cause, like, I did do monster smash or pass.
- 1:11:30Yes, I did too.
- 1:11:31And I think that was, like, something that I had, and I was like, what?
- 1:11:37What do you mean?
- 1:11:38That was the… They could never clean themselves.
- 1:11:41They could never take a shower, no.
- 1:11:42I never thought about that, but yeah.
- 1:11:43Okay, sorry.
- 1:11:44I don't wanna get ahead of, ahead of ourselves.
- 1:11:45Right, right, right.
- 1:11:47Right?
- 1:11:47That's so funny.
- 1:11:48I was just- I don't have a dumb decision to make … I was just doing-
- 1:11:50They can't- I was just- … swim?
- 1:11:52Oh.
- 1:11:53Yeah.
- 1:11:54But bathing, yeah, that's also important.
- 1:11:56I literally put, honestly, in my opinion, there weren't, like, any dumb decisions
- 1:12:01that led to death for the main characters.
- 1:12:05And that's how I felt writing this, like… And now I'm like, "Hmm, he's
- 1:12:10got some points." That's- Listen, that's just where my mind goes when
- 1:12:14it comes to, you know- Yeah … you they're going to… Like, to me, I'd
- 1:12:18be like let's defend the house." Yeah.
- 1:12:20Yeah.
- 1:12:21You know?
- 1:12:21In case you have to, be ready to fight.
- 1:12:23And here's the deal.
- 1:12:25As someone who depends upon a medication for life- And you-
- 1:12:30You're gonna keep that on you.
- 1:12:31Right, yeah.
- 1:12:32Y- that's not just something you leave laying on the ground
- 1:12:35upstairs in a critical situation.
- 1:12:38When I was watching this, I was like, it's just all happening so fast.
- 1:12:41Like, they, like, I feel like this whole movie took place,
- 1:12:44like, in the span of like, what?
- 1:12:45Like, two or three days.
- 1:12:46Yeah, I think so.
- 1:12:49I don't know.
- 1:12:51Obviously I've never been in that situation where, like, I don't have
- 1:12:54a whole lot of time to plan an act
- 1:12:58if I have to make a quick decision, it's gonna be a bad one.
- 1:13:01Yeah.
- 1:13:02I've said that.
- 1:13:03Yeah.
- 1:13:03Yeah.
- 1:13:04I've always said that- But- … about myself … honestly, to be fair, even
- 1:13:10if I have time to think about it, it could very well be a bad decision.
- 1:13:13Oh.
- 1:13:13It's not like having more time is gonna give me a better shot at making…
- 1:13:16I would probably just think of other ways to validate my first thought.
- 1:13:20Yeah, for sure.
- 1:13:22Yes.
- 1:13:22We're the same person- Mm-hmm … I'm finding.
- 1:13:25Mark, thank you for doing that.
- 1:13:27You did take this movie down a couple pegs for me, but that's okay.
- 1:13:32Oh, I di- I didn't mean to do that.
- 1:13:33No, it's just- But, yeah.
- 1:13:34You just write… You just had so many g- I really was like, "What's he gotta
- 1:13:39say?" You really, you just had such good thing that I never would've thought of.
- 1:13:43I never- Yeah.
- 1:13:44I did think to myself, what, like him stacking some bags,
- 1:13:47that's gonna stop this alien.
- 1:13:49So that was like, okay, come on, be so for real, but, like where did they go?
- 1:13:54Like, where did the aliens go?
- 1:13:55They just gave up?
- 1:13:57They just gave up?
- 1:13:58They just- Well, they said that people started to figure it out, like- Yeah
- 1:14:01how they could defend themselves- Well, like- … against them, so they left.
- 1:14:04So they, so they fled, but, like in the house they're like, "All right,
- 1:14:07guess-" Oh, wow, was- … guess we can't get these ones.
- 1:14:09We're gonna leave.
- 1:14:11I mean, obviously- Like there was only one left.
- 1:14:12I just pict- Yeah … I picture the alien on the other side of the door
- 1:14:14being like, "All right," and then doing the whole like, you know- Yeah.
- 1:14:19fake, fake walk away kind of thing.
- 1:14:20Yeah.
- 1:14:21So when they said their injured were left here, 'cause that one was
- 1:14:24obviously still an operational alien.
- 1:14:27Right.
- 1:14:27Yeah.
- 1:14:27He just had a couple of fingertips missing.
- 1:14:29Did they leave all of the damaged goods?
- 1:14:32I think- Like, did they take only the healthy aliens back, and
- 1:14:34they're like, "Oh, fingertips gone.
- 1:14:37You gotta stay." Nah, he is out for blood.
- 1:14:40He di- I guess that's true.
- 1:14:41It was a revenge mission of that.
- 1:14:43He was, he was- It was … he was big mad.
- 1:14:44He was.
- 1:14:45And look at you, that's what it gets you, death.
- 1:14:48Death, burned by water.
- 1:14:51Wow.
- 1:14:53Oh, my goodness.
- 1:14:53Really quick, so it's just, it's not important, but like whenever Beau screams,
- 1:14:58and like the alien like turns, Beau, like the imprint, or like he like shape-sh-
- 1:15:04I keep wanting to say shape-shift.
- 1:15:06He camouflages, right?
- 1:15:08And like Beau is imprinted on his back.
- 1:15:12Like her standing there Oh, I didn't… I mean, I saw, I saw there
- 1:15:14was d- a design on his back, but I didn't see that it was her It was Bo.
- 1:15:18That's crazy.
- 1:15:18Yeah.
- 1:15:18Not even a little bit of that registered to me.
- 1:15:21I had to watch a YouTube video- … before I was like, "Oh, you're right.
- 1:15:24Now I wanna go watch this again." I just saw it was a weird pattern, and I was
- 1:15:26like, "That's kinda odd." 'Cause I did notice the hand when he was holding.
- 1:15:29Yeah.
- 1:15:30I'd noticed that part, but- Yeah.
- 1:15:31Yeah … the stuff that was on his back, I didn't really catch that.
- 1:15:34Goodness.
- 1:15:34So Mark, I feel like… Oh, wait.
- 1:15:38Just kidding.
- 1:15:38Club rules.
- 1:15:40So what club rules do you think you'd have to go by?
- 1:15:44I said do just whatever Graham tells you to do, 'cause he, he did get them through.
- 1:15:53Well, he also tried to get them to go to the lake.
- 1:15:55Yeah, but I… But there would've been a good, I mean- They could have gone
- 1:16:00swimming and they would've been fine Okay.
- 1:16:03Oh, that's true.
- 1:16:03You just go float.
- 1:16:04Yeah.
- 1:16:05Yeah.
- 1:16:05Just go for a swim.
- 1:16:06Yeah.
- 1:16:06That's the rule.
- 1:16:08Oh.
- 1:16:08I would love that.
- 1:16:10Yeah, so you just stand in a pool and, like, just wave- … wave at the aliens.
- 1:16:14Like, he'll get tired eventually.
- 1:16:15The rest of the world's on fire.
- 1:16:16They'll leave.
- 1:16:16Yeah.
- 1:16:16They'll eventually leave.
- 1:16:17They'll get tired.
- 1:16:18Yeah.
- 1:16:18They'll get bored.
- 1:16:19Hmm.
- 1:16:19Or it's like The Sims where, like, you put them in the pool and then you
- 1:16:24take the ladder away and they die.
- 1:16:28Interesting.
- 1:16:28Did y'all ever do that?
- 1:16:30No.
- 1:16:30I- I never- I did not know you could do that … I never played The
- 1:16:33Sims- Yeah … but I knew people- I dabbles … who- I dabble … would
- 1:16:38purposefully ruin their Sims lives.
- 1:16:40Like, how can I slowly kill this Sims?
- 1:16:43I didn't know you could kill them.
- 1:16:45I thought they just- Oh, yeah … I thought they just
- 1:16:45got miserable or something.
- 1:16:46No, 'cause then the Grim Reaper comes.
- 1:16:48Oh.
- 1:16:49It's like a
- 1:16:51Tamagotchi.
- 1:16:52Yeah.
- 1:16:53Didn't w- when they're little, I don't know.
- 1:16:54I don't know if there was a Grim Reaper on the Tamagotchi, but
- 1:16:56you could definitely kill those.
- 1:16:57Or it was like a little ghost that just appears or something when they die.
- 1:17:00Is that what it was?
- 1:17:02I can't remember.
- 1:17:03I can't remember.
- 1:17:03Would you have to buy a whole new Tamagotchi if your- I think you could
- 1:17:06just res- Oh, I never, I never had one … I think you could just restart it.
- 1:17:09I'm not sure.
- 1:17:10I don't know.
- 1:17:11So it's a brilliant marketing strategy if, if you have to buy a new one.
- 1:17:13Oh, you forgot to feed it for two days?
- 1:17:15Guess you gotta buy another one.
- 1:17:16Yep.
- 1:17:16Just, it just bricks the unit.
- 1:17:18Yeah.
- 1:17:18$10 here.
- 1:17:21Amazing.
- 1:17:22Um, yeah, I put be near water.
- 1:17:24So I said I will not judge Alec anymore for leaving his cups of water around-
- 1:17:29Yeah … 'cause he does do that.
- 1:17:31I might need that someday.
- 1:17:32He's just trying to- Maybe so … look out for the future you.
- 1:17:35Yeah.
- 1:17:36I, yeah, I said always, you know, always have water.
- 1:17:41Hydration is not a laughing matter.
- 1:17:43Should always have it with you.
- 1:17:44Um- Do you still carry around, like, your big old Hydro Flask?
- 1:17:47No, 'cause I don't need the water as much as I used to.
- 1:17:52Um, I do always carry a water bottle with me.
- 1:17:54Yeah.
- 1:17:55But you can see it's not the same size.
- 1:17:57It's not a gallon that I fill up twice a day.
- 1:18:01That's insane.
- 1:18:02Uh, yeah.
- 1:18:03I look back and I'm like, wow, how did I not- I should've, I
- 1:18:06feel like I should've known.
- 1:18:09I should've been- There are a lot of things I'm like I should have
- 1:18:10known … I should've been suspicious.
- 1:18:10Yeah.
- 1:18:11Um-
- 1:18:14Uh, other than that, I don't really know what you can do against aliens.
- 1:18:17You're kinda toast.
- 1:18:18Ugh, that's so scary.
- 1:18:20And I'm honestly surprised, because aliens have always been the thing of you
- 1:18:23that you're like, "I can't, aliens scare me." And then we have already watched
- 1:18:28half of our episodes have been aliens.
- 1:18:30I know.
- 1:18:31I, I'm doing well.
- 1:18:32I think at this point I just feel like, you know, it's like that guy
- 1:18:35who's, like, smoking a cigarette.
- 1:18:36I feel like- You're- I'm like- … you're dead inside … well,
- 1:18:39I've already lived through all of these- Yeah … end of the world.
- 1:18:42I think I've just come to the conclusion that, like, one day I will die, and
- 1:18:49I do think God is stronger than an a- God is bigger than the boogeyman.
- 1:18:53Amen on that.
- 1:18:54I was singing that to Jay today.
- 1:18:55Yeah.
- 1:18:56And it's like, even if if the aliens come or if I just drink a butt ton of
- 1:19:02as- aspartame in my Coke Zeros, like- Yeah … I'm gonna die eventually, so.
- 1:19:05This is true.
- 1:19:06That, whatever you said had triggered something for me and
- 1:19:09now I don't remember what it was.
- 1:19:11Can you run that back a little bit?
- 1:19:12What did I say?
- 1:19:13God is bigger than the boogeyman?
- 1:19:14It was before that.
- 1:19:16We've li- I've lived through a lot of- I got it.
- 1:19:19I remember.
- 1:19:20So now that you've watched two alien movies, and you're a pro at the alien
- 1:19:23movies now, we need to add to the wheel- Okay … No One Will Save You.
- 1:19:29Oh, yeah.
- 1:19:30Okay.
- 1:19:31Okay.
- 1:19:31Yeah, that one's- I want you to watch that one.
- 1:19:34That one's creepy.
- 1:19:35Yeah.
- 1:19:37'Cause I don't really like alien movies usually.
- 1:19:39I mean, I liked this one, but it was different.
- 1:19:41Okay, perfect.
- 1:19:42This is a good movie.
- 1:19:43But that movie was good.
- 1:19:44I remember talking to y'all about that and being like- Yeah, 'cause
- 1:19:46you didn't wanna watch it … I kinda wanna see it, but I'm afraid of aliens.
- 1:19:49Yes.
- 1:19:49Yes.
- 1:19:50Okay.
- 1:19:50We'll have to watch it.
- 1:19:51It's added to the list.
- 1:19:52Perfect.
- 1:19:53Mark, do you have any rules to survival?
- 1:19:56Eat your French toast.
- 1:19:59Well- What about French toast Crunch?
- 1:20:01Oh, yeah 'Cause, I mean- That's the travel version there.
- 1:20:04You just take that on the road.
- 1:20:05Yeah.
- 1:20:05It was, it was just an absolute miracle that that French toast
- 1:20:09materialized like it did.
- 1:20:10Should've eaten it.
- 1:20:11You are- I'm on the up-and-up … you're a fan of French toast.
- 1:20:13I do love French toast.
- 1:20:15That is true.
- 1:20:15Yeah.
- 1:20:15Do you think the aliens tried it and they're like, tsk"?
- 1:20:17Probably so.
- 1:20:19Probably so.
- 1:20:20I wouldn't put it past them.
- 1:20:21All that food that was sitting there, they were like, "Mm." The delicacies of earth.
- 1:20:26You know it wa- you know it was still up there.
- 1:20:28Ragu.
- 1:20:29What?
- 1:20:29You know it was still up there.
- 1:20:31Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:20:31Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:31100%, yeah.
- 1:20:31They didn't have time to- They cleaned that up … take it back to study it.
- 1:20:34Probably so.
- 1:20:34They kept it in a to-go bag.
- 1:20:36'Cause what all did they have?
- 1:20:37There was spaghetti with meatballs, there was the French toast- Teriyaki chicken
- 1:20:41and a kind of teriyaki cheeseburger
- 1:20:41bacon, teriyaki chicken, bacon cheeseburger- With extra
- 1:20:44bacon … who had the mashed potatoes?
- 1:20:47I don't know where that came from.
- 1:20:48Was that, did that go on- 'Cause that dude was shoveling- … with the meatloaf?
- 1:20:50… mashed potatoes in his mouth.
- 1:20:51I think, I think- Did somebody have meatloaf?
- 1:20:53No, I think mashed potatoes is probably just something that
- 1:20:55was on the craft services cart.
- 1:20:57And they just say, "Put that- They just threw it on a plate … put that on
- 1:20:58the table." 'Cause yeah, no, it was, I remember it was French toast, spaghetti,
- 1:21:03teriyaki chicken, bacon cheeseburger.
- 1:21:04Right.
- 1:21:06'Cause Graham wanted the bacon cheeseburger.
- 1:21:08'Cause I completely- Yeah … missed, completely missed the point
- 1:21:12of the Last Supper in this scene 'cause I was so hung up-
- 1:21:16on the fact- How did they have it all?
- 1:21:18… the fact that they not only had all the ingredients, but they
- 1:21:20prepared them all at the same time.
- 1:21:22Yeah.
- 1:21:22Yeah, 'cause l- I could never organize a Thanksgiving meal.
- 1:21:28I mean- No, it's so hard.
- 1:21:29I don't know how- We struggle just- I don't know how the
- 1:21:32grandmas of the world do it
- 1:21:32we struggle just to get, like, Beth- Grilled chicken and
- 1:21:35vegetables out at the same time?
- 1:21:36Yeah, Beth will be- Yeah … roasting some broccoli and I'm grilling
- 1:21:38chicken, and we just can't, we can't get them done at the same time.
- 1:21:41Right.
- 1:21:41Yeah.
- 1:21:41And it'll be like, "Oh we'll have to go ahead and eat the broccoli."
- 1:21:44"It's still about 15 minutes on the chicken." Yeah, that is true.
- 1:21:48So we'll eat in shifts.
- 1:21:50That's what I- Love it … yeah, that's what I was so passionate about when
- 1:21:52he was, like, not eating the French toast, and then Graham just took it.
- 1:21:55I'm like, "Yeah you go, Graham." Something on that table was cold.
- 1:21:59Like, you, you- Yeah
- 1:22:00you did that.
- 1:22:01You enjoy- What would you eat- … that accomplishment … out of all of
- 1:22:03that food, what would you eat cold?
- 1:22:05Or like, what would you be like, "No, I have to eat this while it's hot"?
- 1:22:08Oh, the hamburger.
- 1:22:09Oh, I thought you were gonna say the French toast.
- 1:22:11I'd eat that cold.
- 1:22:11I think I could eat the French toast cold or hot.
- 1:22:13I… The French toast is the thing that I would eat war- I would have to eat warm.
- 1:22:16Oh, you want it.
- 1:22:16Yeah.
- 1:22:16Because there's a, there's a custard involved, and I need that to be warmed up.
- 1:22:17It…
- 1:22:23A gelatinous egg thing.
- 1:22:25Like, the, Yeah.
- 1:22:26I don't know- I would want warm … if your French toast is cooked all the
- 1:22:28way if you have your gelatinous egg.
- 1:22:31I mean, it c- soaks up all the stuff.
- 1:22:33Huh.
- 1:22:33I'm just not a big fan of a cold burger.
- 1:22:35But French toast is not my favorite anyway 'cause it's soggy bread.
- 1:22:41Not a favorite?
- 1:22:42It's delicious soggy bread, but the texture, I need a little something.
- 1:22:47Okay.
- 1:22:48Perfect.
- 1:22:49Okay.
- 1:22:49In case you wanted to know.
- 1:22:52All right.
- 1:22:52Would we survive?
- 1:22:54Um- Probably.
- 1:22:55Yes … I'm, I'm gonna say yeah, 100%.
- 1:22:57I'm, I… Like I said, I, I stand on the fact I think these aliens are dumb.
- 1:23:01I would've rounded up some weapons and fought back.
- 1:23:04Oh.
- 1:23:04I would've tried a lot of different things.
- 1:23:05Or you'll die of your arrogance.
- 1:23:08You know what?
- 1:23:08The one weapon they had- … their little poison, poison gas shooter-
- 1:23:12Yeah … they didn't wanna use them.
- 1:23:14So many opportunities to use them, and they didn't.
- 1:23:16Why do you think that is?
- 1:23:17But that's what I'm saying.
- 1:23:17I think they purposefully didn't use it.
- 1:23:19'Cause they needed the people for something.
- 1:23:21Maybe so.
- 1:23:21Maybe they were trying to, maybe they were trying to harvest and then, you know, of
- 1:23:24course, he, he was trying to kill Morgan maybe out of revenge for the fingers.
- 1:23:28Maybe.
- 1:23:29Well- But- … yeah … I don't know.
- 1:23:30Yeah.
- 1:23:30I'm just saying clearly they're not- Not a fair trade-off
- 1:23:33they're not invincible.
- 1:23:34He cut- Yeah … the fingers off.
- 1:23:36So I feel like, I feel like you can mount a pretty good defense and
- 1:23:40make them reconsider, first off, you know, why in the world are we at some
- 1:23:44farmhouse in the middle of nowhere when they're, like, congregating
- 1:23:48in bigger areas across the globe?
- 1:23:51And so I don't know.
- 1:23:52I think I could make them rethink- maybe you need to just go somewhere else.
- 1:23:57Maybe the first round.
- 1:23:58But what about, like, I mean, they're gonna go back to their
- 1:24:00civilization, and they're gonna scheme.
- 1:24:03Yep.
- 1:24:03Yeah, but by this time, somewhere on the go they figured out, as they did, that
- 1:24:08water was a weapon, and we would just have a bunch of Super Soakers for round two.
- 1:24:15Can you imagine that Signs Two is just everybody with a Super
- 1:24:20Soaker gun- There will be no winning … just in their house.
- 1:24:23That would be amazing, yeah.
- 1:24:24Pew, pew, pew.
- 1:24:24Yeah.
- 1:24:25So there- I don't think I would survive it … yeah, there is no Signs Two.
- 1:24:27I don't think I would.
- 1:24:28I think I would just panic so hardcore that I wouldn't be able
- 1:24:30to make a rational decision.
- 1:24:32Yeah.
- 1:24:32I don't … I don't know if it was this discussion or another episode where I was
- 1:24:37like, I don't, I don't watch the news.
- 1:24:41I don't take stock in- Maybe.
- 1:24:43Yeah … in events that are going on in the world.
- 1:24:46I'm just like, well, it is what it is.
- 1:24:48And so I probably wouldn't give it the weight that it deserves,
- 1:24:52or I wouldn't take it seriously.
- 1:24:54Yeah.
- 1:24:54I might survive by proxy with Mark, 'cause I just live there.
- 1:24:57Maybe.
- 1:24:59I'll just, like, if, if anything ever goes down, I'm just gonna
- 1:25:01come tag along with y'all.
- 1:25:02Yeah.
- 1:25:03Do that.
- 1:25:03With my husband and my child.
- 1:25:05Yep.
- 1:25:05But I can do CPR and- Okay … first aid, so I'm valuable to take along.
- 1:25:11All right.
- 1:25:12I feel like this crew could
- 1:25:15We could make it for a while because, like- Yeah … you also have, you can sew.
- 1:25:19I can.
- 1:25:20You have your medical skills.
- 1:25:22Between Mark and Alec, they could recreate probably any … They
- 1:25:26could engineer whatever we need.
- 1:25:28I offer no valuable skills.
- 1:25:32I could watch your baby while you sew, so there's that.
- 1:25:36I don't really have any life skills.
- 1:25:38Oh my gosh.
- 1:25:38Whatever.
- 1:25:39I don't.
- 1:25:40Whatever.
- 1:25:42I was sitting here trying to think of something I could bring to the table
- 1:25:46Those brownies are really good I got nothing.
- 1:25:48With what oven?
- 1:25:50And what- Well- You, I can't sustain you for life on brownies Well,
- 1:25:53okay, but- I could live off of brownies … think about it, though.
- 1:25:55I mean, in this kind of apocalypse, it's not like we've lost electricity.
- 1:25:59That's true We just have to outlive aliens.
- 1:26:01I mean, like, we would have to go close to the electric plant.
- 1:26:06Yeah.
- 1:26:07Keep it running.
- 1:26:08That's what they're for.
- 1:26:09And then you can make us brownies.
- 1:26:12Yeah.
- 1:26:12Nice.
- 1:26:12I, maybe I'm the, I'm the personality hire, I guess.
- 1:26:15So the, like, I can make the- Oh, my gosh … I can make you the brownies.
- 1:26:19Listen, at this point in my nursing career, I'm, like, not the
- 1:26:22nurse you want in an emergency.
- 1:26:24Okay?
- 1:26:25I'm like, "I…" I'm like, "Is your poop hard or soft?" How do
- 1:26:29you- Like, I'm asking you … how's a person supposed to know?
- 1:26:33They touch it.
- 1:26:42Like, you're laughing, but I seriously wanna know the answer to that question.
- 1:26:45Oh, man.
- 1:26:46Do you ask people that question?
- 1:26:47Do you
- 1:26:49ask people that?
- 1:26:50I'm gonna
- 1:26:53pee my pants.
- 1:26:59Oh my God.
- 1:27:00Okay.
- 1:27:03Answer
- 1:27:09me.
- 1:27:09The look on your face when you said you- No, we don't… Well, I guess
- 1:27:12it just depends on the situation.
- 1:27:14Sometimes- You have to touch it … sometimes okay, sometimes we do have to
- 1:27:22You know the trend that's like, "Make your job sound illegal?" Yeah.
- 1:27:26I don't need to do that for my job, but, like- … when I ask,
- 1:27:30like, "Is your poop hard or soft?"
- 1:27:31It's like, "Are you constipated or not?"
- 1:27:38You're like, "Do you touch
- 1:27:42it?" I'm like, how is a person supposed to know?
- 1:27:43You just know.
- 1:27:44You just give it a little squeeze?
- 1:27:45No.
- 1:27:46No.
- 1:27:56So you'd base that on how it feels coming out?
- 1:27:59Like, yeah, like the effort.
- 1:28:01Like
- 1:28:04the effort it
- 1:28:06takes.
- 1:28:06Like- But what… It can be, it can be easy to come out, but solid, right?
- 1:28:13It should be solid.
- 1:28:15Yeah.
- 1:28:15But, like, is it… have you ever heard of the Bristol Stool Chart?
- 1:28:19Is that the color?
- 1:28:21No.
- 1:28:22I'll show you.
- 1:28:23Okay, so this is the d- this is the Bristol Stool Chart.
- 1:28:26Okay?
- 1:28:27So based- Excuse me … on how your stool looks tells us, like, if it looks good.
- 1:28:31So if it looks like little- Tater tots
- 1:28:34little pebbles.
- 1:28:35Yeah.
- 1:28:38You've got some constipation.
- 1:28:39Okay.
- 1:28:40If it's lumpy, it looks like a sausage, you've got some constipation.
- 1:28:45If it, then it, if it's, like, smooth- Yeah … so I guess, like,
- 1:28:50what is your… How did we get here?
- 1:28:52So it's the shape of it?
- 1:28:52We are, we are learning things today.
- 1:28:54The shape of it.
- 1:28:55Okay.
- 1:28:55If it's, like, super ridgy.
- 1:28:57Like, if it's, like… So am I supposed to be inspecting this?
- 1:29:02Do you not look at your poop?
- 1:29:03I mean, I take a glance, but I'm not gonna-
- 1:29:09get my magnifying glass out.
- 1:29:10Oh, I got some three-inch ridges on there.
- 1:29:15Well, I guess if you are ever finding to where you're- Let me pull out the chart.
- 1:29:20Yeah, we just post it in the bathroom.
- 1:29:22Yeah, just keep it up behind the toilet.
- 1:29:23Quick reference.
- 1:29:24Yeah.
- 1:29:24I mean, I see this chart every, every workday.
- 1:29:26Well, you've probably got it memorized.
- 1:29:28I have to look at it.
- 1:29:28You'd be like, oh, you can immediately identify.
- 1:29:30Oh, that's textbook tater tots.
- 1:29:32That's textbook tater tots.
- 1:29:34How did we get here?
- 1:29:35Uh.
- 1:29:36You asked, "Is your poop hard or soft?" And who are you asking?
- 1:29:41Oh, oh, the aliens.
- 1:29:43I am so done.
- 1:29:44I was basically saying that's the kind of nurse that I am now.
- 1:29:49Oh.
- 1:29:49I can't I mean- Yeah … if you're sick, I'm like, "You should take some
- 1:29:53amoxicillin." I'm not like, "Oh, well, this is a broad spectrum for gram
- 1:30:00negative anaerobes." Like- Yeah … I'm like, "Are you pushing really hard to
- 1:30:06poop or does it come out easily?" I- depending on how many brownies we eat.
- 1:30:13Y- these are important questions.
- 1:30:15Yes.
- 1:30:16That's how we got there.
- 1:30:16'Cause the things can n- not be moving quite right.
- 1:30:20Oh my gosh.
- 1:30:20That is probably my favorite tangent that we've gone on.
- 1:30:25My job is insane.
- 1:30:27Okay, I will, I'll keep that thought in my s- in, in my head.
- 1:30:31Inside thoughts.
- 1:30:31Inside thoughts, yes.
- 1:30:32Okay.
- 1:30:34All right.
- 1:30:34So, um, Monster Smasher Pass.
- 1:30:37And Beth, do you wanna do your little, your little… Mark, I just want you
- 1:30:45to know that no matter what I say- I would always choose you over the alien.
- 1:30:50Okay.
- 1:30:51I respect that.
- 1:30:52Good.
- 1:30:53You know, I just like, I just want you to know I mean that.
- 1:30:55He's like, "You better, 'cause these are dumb as rocks." Yes.
- 1:30:57Stupid aliens.
- 1:30:59Not even a smart one.
- 1:31:00Uh, so smash, they are well-traveled.
- 1:31:03Oh, yeah.
- 1:31:04Grab your passport and my hand, I can make a bad guy good for the weekend.
- 1:31:09Is what came to mind.
- 1:31:11They will come to a party and then just leave so quick.
- 1:31:15Yeah?
- 1:31:16It's like an Irish goodbye.
- 1:31:17What's that?
- 1:31:19I don't know.
- 1:31:19It's a really quick goodbye.
- 1:31:20Yeah.
- 1:31:21Why is it Irish?
- 1:31:22I don't know.
- 1:31:22I just came to that conclusion based on what she said.
- 1:31:25I think that's what… I mean, I could be wrong.
- 1:31:27Why are they saying bye so quickly?
- 1:31:29I don't know.
- 1:31:29The Irish.
- 1:31:30I don't know.
- 1:31:30Is it 'cause they're hungry?
- 1:31:32'Cause they have the potato famine?
- 1:31:35It's, like, all down through generations.
- 1:31:38So they're good for a fellow introvert.
- 1:31:41And- Yeah, true … I did say that they are excellent problem-solvers,
- 1:31:46but now I'm thinking that's not true.
- 1:31:49I said except when it comes to water and doorknobs.
- 1:31:51I mean, he found the coal chute.
- 1:31:53He did.
- 1:31:54That's impressive.
- 1:31:54Yeah.
- 1:31:55Did you have any smashes?
- 1:31:58Yes.
- 1:31:59Sorry, I was looking up Irish goodbye.
- 1:32:01Are you- Oh, it's the act of leaving a social gathering discreetly without
- 1:32:05notifying the host- Yeah … or explicitly saying farewell to anyone.
- 1:32:10Yeah.
- 1:32:11Because apparently- I've done that … people in Ireland, when they
- 1:32:14say goodbye, it's like, "Goodbye, bye-bye." Like, "No, you hang up." "No,
- 1:32:17you hang up." They're like, it has a long goodbyes, and you're, pe- these,
- 1:32:19some people are just like, "See ya."
- 1:32:21Yeah.
- 1:32:21So smash, they are s- well, before this discussion happened, I was like, "They're
- 1:32:27smart and resourceful." I know, right?
- 1:32:30And now I don't necessarily feel that way.
- 1:32:31I said they were good problem-solvers.
- 1:32:35He got out of the pantry.
- 1:32:37Yeah, he did.
- 1:32:38We don't know that.
- 1:32:38They made it to Earth.
- 1:32:40What do you mean?
- 1:32:40You know he got out.
- 1:32:41His friend, his friend- He got out of the pantry Well, he did get out,
- 1:32:43but did his friends let him out?
- 1:32:45I, that I don't know.
- 1:32:46You know, he, he, you know, got on the baby monitor and was like, "Hey,"
- 1:32:49"Come- He didn't have the baby monitor in the pantry … come, come get me."
- 1:32:53There might have been one in there.
- 1:32:53We don't know.
- 1:32:54They never showed.
- 1:32:55That man didn't have a baby.
- 1:32:57Roger, Roger.
- 1:32:58Did he, or did he not?
- 1:33:00He did not.
- 1:33:01We don't know that.
- 1:33:03Did you have any past thoughts?
- 1:33:05Oh, yeah.
- 1:33:06I said nasty nails, 'cause when you like… Yep, that's not
- 1:33:11where I thought that was going.
- 1:33:17What did you think I was gonna say?
- 1:33:19I don't know, but when we're having the context of, like, Smash or
- 1:33:22Pass, like nasty… I'm like I'm like, I'm like, "Don't do that."
- 1:33:33Oh, man, we always need to record at this time- Yeah … from here on out.
- 1:33:36It's late.
- 1:33:37I haven't been to sleep in three days.
- 1:33:41I'm not okay.
- 1:33:43Oh my gosh.
- 1:33:43I said- Sorry, nails.
- 1:33:44They have nasty nails.
- 1:33:44No, that's so funny.
- 1:33:45Yeah, I said they've got nasty nails.
- 1:33:48They probably run for fun.
- 1:33:51Psychopath.
- 1:33:52They sign up for the turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning.
- 1:33:56No.
- 1:33:56Yeah.
- 1:33:57Abso- immediately not.
- 1:33:59And they can't go swimming.
- 1:34:00Ugh, super lame.
- 1:34:01Yeah, I gotta have, I gotta have my water buddy.
- 1:34:05Oh, and then you'll love this.
- 1:34:06They'll probably talk bad about you, but in their language right in front of you.
- 1:34:10They will.
- 1:34:12They're probably super petty.
- 1:34:13Yeah, and then they're like
- 1:34:14That's how, that's how they laugh.
- 1:34:18I don't, I don't need that probably.
- 1:34:20No, yeah, I would be so self-conscious about that, too.
- 1:34:23Yes, I'd be like, "What? What do you want?" Um, so my pass
- 1:34:27was like, yes, they have talons.
- 1:34:29I don't like that.
- 1:34:31Also, the toxic gas- … is gonna be an issue because, uh, my question,
- 1:34:38not to go back here, but does that gas only come out their finger?
- 1:34:43Or, like, what happens when they get like… What if you scare it on
- 1:34:48accident and it does a little toot?
- 1:34:50Is it toxic gas and you've just died?
- 1:34:53I don't know.
- 1:34:53Is it hard or soft?
- 1:34:54'Cause you startled it?
- 1:34:55The fart- Was your fart hard or soft?
- 1:34:58Was it spicy?
- 1:35:00I… Okay, yeah, 'cause their fart would always smell bad, and is, it could always
- 1:35:06be, you know, silent but deadly farts.
- 1:35:08That's the only kind that I have, so I'm thinking I- Always?
- 1:35:11Yeah.
- 1:35:11Oh, no.
- 1:35:12I can t-
- 1:35:18Come on.
- 1:35:18Is that … Are you about to say you can- You can't leave us hanging.
- 1:35:21You know it is gonna be stinky.
- 1:35:23You definitely know.
- 1:35:24When it comes out of you, you know.
- 1:35:26You're like, "I need to warn, I need to warn somebody." Sometimes I will fart-
- 1:35:33Yeah … but I won't tell Alec, and I'll just count in my head to see how
- 1:35:36long it takes for him to say something.
- 1:35:38That's like lightning.
- 1:35:39Do you do that?
- 1:35:41It's like lightning.
- 1:35:42Yeah, lightning and the thunder.
- 1:35:47Do you- One Mississippi, two- Do you do that?
- 1:35:50Do I do what?
- 1:35:52You just wait to see what happens after
- 1:35:57you laugh?
- 1:35:57Yeah.
- 1:35:57That's so disrespectful.
- 1:35:57I always warn you, even sometimes when I don't have to.
- 1:36:00High five, brother.
- 1:36:01I'm gonna s- I… I'ma start doing it under the covers.
- 1:36:05I'ma cover you up, and I'ma toot
- 1:36:10at your CPAP mask.
- 1:36:17That's diabolical.
- 1:36:18So it goes right- That is diabolical … give him a fart straight to the dome.
- 1:36:24It has a filter.
- 1:36:27Not if I take it out.
- 1:36:31I'll fart in the reservoir.
- 1:36:34Oh.
- 1:36:35Oh.
- 1:36:39I will fart in the reservoir.
- 1:36:42You thought that water was distilled.
- 1:36:44That's Fall- Oh … Out Boy's new lyric.
- 1:36:46Oh my gosh.
- 1:36:48Um- That is excellent … so that's why I would pass.
- 1:36:52Yeah, for sure pass.
- 1:36:53Mostly the gas.
- 1:36:54Pass the gas.
- 1:36:59We are losing it.
- 1:37:01So yeah let's land the plane here.
- 1:37:04Does it join the club?
- 1:37:06Yes.
- 1:37:06Yeah.
- 1:37:07I agree.
- 1:37:07I think it's great.
- 1:37:08Yeah, I, I think this is great.
- 1:37:09You know, like I said, I didn't wanna, I didn't wanna come off
- 1:37:11like I'm knocking the movie.
- 1:37:13Yeah- Yeah … I was kinda ripping the- You did … the thing.
- 1:37:16That's okay.
- 1:37:16But it's a great movie.
- 1:37:17I still recommend it.
- 1:37:18It's still good.
- 1:37:19It holds up, even, you know- Yeah … it's how many years?
- 1:37:2124? Yeah.
- 1:37:23Still great to watch.
- 1:37:24It, th- there's not really any, like the effects are not really that bad
- 1:37:27for- No … you know, that far back.
- 1:37:29And- I think- … I mean, it still holds up.
- 1:37:32Still a great movie.
- 1:37:32Yeah, I think that's the beauty of it.
- 1:37:35Oh my gosh, excuse me.
- 1:37:35That's the beauty of it, not depending on the imagery.
- 1:37:40It depends on the story- Yeah … and the dialogue and the deeper meaning
- 1:37:46of the movie, rather than just the graphics or anything like that.
- 1:37:49So you can watch it 24, almost 25 years later and still enjoy
- 1:37:54it and not be distracted by the f- Alien graphics, for example.
- 1:38:01Yeah.
- 1:38:01From 1979, where, um, um, it was cutting edge at the time, I'm sure.
- 1:38:04Yeah.
- 1:38:05But just does not- Or I mean, like- … well hold up … I mean, I can't tell
- 1:38:07you off the top of my head when Twister was made, but the, you remember the cow?
- 1:38:11Oh yeah, man, the, the graphics in that are- The, the CG cow in that movie- Yeah
- 1:38:14was, was, it did not hold up.
- 1:38:16Yeah.
- 1:38:17Yeah.
- 1:38:17Yeah.
- 1:38:18But yeah, good movie.
- 1:38:19Good.
- 1:38:19I'm glad you guys liked it, because I watched it and I was like, "I think
- 1:38:21this was excellent, and I hope that they think it's good too." Oh, yeah.
- 1:38:24Okay.
- 1:38:25Shall we spin our spinning wheel of death?
- 1:38:28What have we got?
- 1:38:30It Follows.
- 1:38:30It Follows.
- 1:38:31Ooh, that's an interesting one.
- 1:38:33Have you- Have you seen that one?
- 1:38:34I haven't.
- 1:38:34Okay.
- 1:38:35I haven't seen it in a while.
- 1:38:36I've- So it'll be interesting to re-watch.
- 1:38:37Isn't that on Netflix?
- 1:38:39It might be.
- 1:38:41If you have Prime video, it's on that.
- 1:38:45Okay.
- 1:38:46Is that a change?
- 1:38:46Netflix, I think- I just see Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV, Philo-
- 1:38:55Yeah … Google Play, and then Fandango.
- 1:38:57Oh, it's gotten good reviews.
- 1:39:00Well, it got a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 1:39:03That's hard to do.
- 1:39:04For a horror especially.
- 1:39:04Yeah.
- 1:39:05Okay, I'm excited.
- 1:39:06Okay, great, and that will be different than what we've done period too, so.
- 1:39:10Yeah, that is a different type of movie than we watched.
- 1:39:13Okay, awesome.
- 1:39:14Cool.
- 1:39:14Well, you guys, this was probably one of my favorite episodes that we've done.
- 1:39:18Really enjoy this one.
