- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Five, six, seven, eight, Kenzie.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk to Kenzie.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right, here we go.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Tara and Haley.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Tara, this is Haley.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Tara.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: We have a special guest on our episode.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Today, Kenzie Elizabeth, I'm so excited that we finally were able to get something on the book so that her to have her come on the podcast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because I adore her.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: What I'm darling, like talking to her truly, it just felt like one of the gals so much so that when we first started recording today, which was our second time recording because we isn't technical difficulties.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: We forgot to press record.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Can you do this one of the girls?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: She is.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: She truly is.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: So Kenzie Elizabeth, if you guys aren't familiar with her, she has a podcast called Houseguess.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: She's been a content creator for a very long time.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: She has been on YouTube since like, I don't know, I would say for the last like 10 plus years, whenever she talks about it.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm like, dang girl, you have been on YouTube for a while.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And she's built her her brand up personally and also she has a brand called Friend of Mine, which is really fun.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: She's a podcast called Housecast, which is how I got connected to her because yeah, I just it was suggested to me.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think I found out about her from what we said, which is one of my favorite podcast with J.C. and Chelsea.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: I love what we said.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I love what we said.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I listen every single week and I think that that's how I
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: found out about Kenzie's podcast started listening to her because she's a hobbyist.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: She loves like I think that her oh my gosh I used to know this this intro by heart because I will listen to it all the time But she she's Genzie, but she is like a wannabe Almost like a wannabe boomer because she like loves Martha Stewart.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: She loves and a garden.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: She loves
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: She loves Nancy Meier, she loves kind of trying to curate this Nancy Meier's aesthetic in her life, and she loves grandma lobbies.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I just love that about her so much.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think that she's doing such good for like the Gen Z and the generations beyond them for like remaining grounded in the analog space and having a hobby while also still kind of navigating the digital space.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she's been called the Gen Z Martha Stewart, which I love because that's like, so I mean, a lot of people throw around the monoghurt of Martha Stewart, like, two younger generations, but I feel like adding the Gen Z part of it, like, really works for her because she says that she feels like she was born a grandma and it's just like, she's always leaving into, like, the community aspect of her life very much in a star's hollow way.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, she's been on YouTube for forever.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: She's a content creator.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: She, like, for all intents and purposes, feels like she would feel like someone who's very online.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: But she just feels very intentional with her life and creating spaces around it.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: She talks about that in this episode.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like I was just going to relate to her so much because she prefers analog hobbies in the same way that we do.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like cozy hobbies.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's her number one thing is finding peace.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's kind of what we love to do.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: When she said that, it was actually in our first recording.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: She's been always looking for peace.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh my god, yes.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I just find that to be so inspirational.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: So she also, like I mentioned, has a brand called Friend of Mine.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so you can find some of her needlepoint templates and just some really, I think she's like her own majong set.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: She just came out with a new pair of overalls, which is so cute.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like a cute, cute, cute, cute.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's just such a cuteie brand, friend of mine.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if you like it, just align so well with go more girls, because it's absolutely, it's like really just slow living.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's slow and intentional.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: So an intentional, in like, not a trad wife way, you know?
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, in what she calls a bread-winning housewife, sort of, right?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: before we get into our little chat with Kenzie, we just want to remind you guys that our spring gazebo is on sale because spring has sprung up, but also these two lips, I know if you're on you, don't say look me, I have to look me, but I also have to tell you, you look so beautiful in this butter, yellow button down, like, you're on my time, I'm yelling this button down story, my mom,
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: It has been so upset with my brother because my brother is a full-grown adult.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: He has a house.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's a surgeon, and my mom's like, get your high school stuff out of my house.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so he was going through his closet, getting rid of things, and he got rid of the shirt.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I said, well, it's my now.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love it.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: I remember like his school photo that he took this in, and like this is like 2006 vintage.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, 2006 being vintage years ago, it is, and that makes my heart really sad.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: That was me and my freshman year of high school.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was 2006.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: So it's been a day.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: He was getting rid of all of his high school clothes and he's not about to wear buttery yellow anymore.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: But you will.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: You look great famously in buttery yellow.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I'm having a buttery yellow day.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: You are your nails or buttery yellow, oh my gosh.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: And they go really well with the tulips behind you.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: You said earlier that they kind of look fake and you're so right.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're gorgeous though.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: They're from Publix.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: My grandma took me to the grocery store the other day.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I got her purple ones because she, favorite colors purple and I got these.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: And she goes our friendship tulips.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I'm actually gonna die.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's the cutest thing I've ever heard.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: So she sent me a picture of hers.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: I sent a picture of mine to hers.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of tulips, it's Earth Day tomorrow and we're going to have Hug a World back on sale, which is very exciting.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: So look out for that tomorrow at www.Mortise.com.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: You might find it in some different colors, which would be really fun.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you can visit our website and shop, Hucka World, Hucka World, Hucka World, I love that shirt.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: I love Hucka World, but I really love our spring gazebo.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: She is cute.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: She is spring goes.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: It says under it, she's just, she's a cuteie one.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, let's dive into our chat with Kenzie Elizabeth.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Kenzie, welcome to Gilmour to say, I should say welcome back because it's so fun to attempt at doing that.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: So welcome back to the podcast.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've never felt better about doing a show like I know that this time we are going to nail it.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what who is against us out there.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know either.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be great.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: We've got those.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is our third attempt earlier in the week.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: We tried to record just now.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: We were talking and we forgot to press record.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: We have had this conversation.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: This is now our third time.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: But we love it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: We love having you here.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to the show.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, actually we're just so authentic and true to ourselves.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: That's how this show is.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so like we forgot to record because it's the same on and off.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're just going to grab the girls, grab your bow, grab your hobby, or grab it.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Again, again, I think one of the reasons why I kind of forgot to record is like, can you just kind of feel like one of the girls like one of our, and like that's why we wanted to have you on because of course, like your purpose is to reach out to us, but we had already been thinking about having you on because Tara introduced me to you.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: She listens to how scarce your podcast, which is fabulous, which you mentioned, like you wanted to feel
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: I love your little intros where you're standing in your door about like it feels like where your house gets about to come in, but she's like, wow, you guys, to give us a little intro which I love and she introduced me to you.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm more of a YouTube girl.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: She's more of a podcast girl.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we've kind of like split your content.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: But so much of what you do feels like it aligns with us with our listeners, just with kind of like the lifestyle that comes from being like a Gilmore girlly.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so we had to have you on.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_02]: No, thanks guys so much.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually so funny because Tara was just saying that.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Something about me and Gilmore girls, I'm like, as you guys were talking, both of you have the most soothing voices.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: So the podcast, it really feels like you are in Start Hollow.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's just like calm.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: I just thank you.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: That means so much to us, because sometimes I'm like, am I being way too chaotic for this like cozy, comfy, nostalgic kind of vibe?
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: So that
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: I have a great nice, like, really quick, is like, your while it's toppled, right?
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, first things first, makes me sick that you guys don't want to indulge because you could've come to my Gilmore girls dinner party.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: And that would have been, or it wasn't, it was, friends giving, would have been amazing.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's how she introduced you to me, because you were doing that.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: That makes good things.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone dressed up as a fellow star's hollow civilian.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: We all, it was just so much fun.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: But, um, the other thing was, give you this for gone to the Christmas, like, star's hollow tour at Warner Bros.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: No, we got invited, but they invited us two days before.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: They always invited us like two days before it's supposed to be remember like we live on the streets.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm fully paying and going and flying on my own.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm paying myself to go.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, they would totally invite you for the media.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: They would invite you one of the new ups and it would literally die for that actually.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: And we should go this year.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: We need to do that.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, all to say that was what I was going to say is that we should do that trip.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, we should totally do that together.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: And we heard that if the hotspots smell, it would be perfect.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we were talking to Madison about this.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: We posted a Friday night girl dinner, like kind of like, Friday night dinner vibes at like a romance bookstore in Orlando.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we want to do that in other little romance bookstores around the country.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that you did a event with blush.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I was just going to say if you come to Dallas, have the perfect one for you.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was even better about blush, like blushes.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: If you guys are in Dallas it's the most incredible romance book story.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's beautiful in this blue house and like the owners are incredible They're really nice hang people love it.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: The neighborhood it's in bishop art is the most like stars hollow Ask neighborhood in like Dallas like true Dallas city now if you go north and you go to McKinney Don't tell McKinney is stars hollow, but It would be so perfect.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: We should do that for sure.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: We definitely should do that.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: We were chatting with Madison a little bit about it And we would love to I've never been to Texas and I'm really excited
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know my god.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I need to have my little Texas bubble burst and I think that going to Dallas would be so much fun.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: My fiance went high school in Dallas.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I, you went to JJ Pierce.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: I want to like, publish school like very North, but I know they're new years.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Jessica Simpson went there.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: iconic.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, when I told him that we were thinking of doing an event with you in Dallas, he was like, oh, sign me up.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's so much fun.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: But we're so happy to have you here.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Your podcast and everything you do with your content is just so like homemaker, hobbyist, and of course your Gilmore Girls fans.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: So we were immediately drawn to you as Haley said, when you said that you were doing, I mean, I had been listening to your podcast before you did your friends giving.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you would mention Gilmore Girls a bunch of times, and I was like, oh, this is my girl.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: But then you were like, I'm doing Gilmore Girls Friendsgiving, and I was like, oh my god.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: I have to know the owners then.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it was so funny because it was kismit that Madison reached out to us because I had told Haley I was like, we have to put it on our last next year, to connect with Kenzie.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: It would be so much fun.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: You love to host a dinner party.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're so good at it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Even outside of your Gilmore girls content and the friends giving, I love them.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: How to make your life feel like a Nancy, Myers film in the Nancy, Myers dinner party.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's just no matter the season, you're always bringing the cozy vibes.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I love it.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: So tell us a little bit about how you got into that,
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: you became a hobbyist, how you were able to take this kind of analog life and put it online.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: So, well, thank you.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: That was a really nice.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of honored.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: I have a couple of answers for this.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm part of God.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going all over the place today.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: When I think about like really truly where the hobby things started, I actually think it's rooted from having anxiety.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like, as much of my life is, I've always loved a hobby.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I was born like 80 years old.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like I've always kind of, so like I always, like I loved spending time with my grandparents and I still hang out with my grandma all the time.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like I just like grandma things.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's definitely become the grandma of it all.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: It has become more of a thing in the past probably five years.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: Growing up, my mom and my grandma, my mom was an interior decorator and then a designer and then my grandma and her, I'm a grandma as a seamstress.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: They owned a batting and drapery company together and they had shops like on the square.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: So it was very star's hollow like it was so it's like the cutest place ever down time again.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: So we would go and I would go work there or I would have to go to all the antique stores in that square because my mom's an interior decorator.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: We have to go like, really anywhere.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I of course hated at the time because I was like, okay, I need to be like, not doing this.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so bored.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: This is horrible.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: But they had Nancy drew books at the antique store.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I was always a very fun kid.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: My parents would just like bribe me with Nancy drew books.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, sit in the corner and they would buy me a Nancy drew book if I like, you know, shut up, basically.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: I would just read a lot.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: I also like until anyone who knows me now is like this crazy but up until like the first grade I was really shy which is so I'm so not that way now and I'm like pretty open as well but I was the opposite of that when I was a kid so I feel like I just spent a lot of time reading.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't realize that I liked like
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: Cooking and gardening and stuff as a kid until I look back at photos and there's all these photos of me in dresses and sun hats like in the quote working in the garden I had to have a cooking like birthday parties like I don't even really remember that I always say like if you are someone who doesn't know what you should do is a hobby just think back to what you like to do is a kid before the world and that's it you're in probably career wise too.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, that's so cute.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's actually how it ended up with this career.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Because my mom used to tell me when I was a teenager.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'd never make money talking about Gilmore girls.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: I needed to get to home or talk at a real job.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: And look at you now.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Look at her now.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, but that's so true.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: You want to get back to your roots.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you want to think about, like, we'll actually brought you joy as a child.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of people, especially right now, because the world can just feel
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: so overwhelming, it's so important to find what grounds you and something that you said when we tried this the first go around, was that you've always gravitated towards peace.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm searching for that at all times in these give you that I also love writing verses, which is something I haven't done as often in the past year, but I do love go, I'm in Texas.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I love to go and do that.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: I obviously like in my basic, so that was like kind of growing up, then post grad, I was this period where I was like, I don't know who I am,
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, well, if you don't want, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, looking back, it was a very normal thing, but when you're like post-grad, you think that you have to know everything and it's so ridiculous, you're the same out of pressure, I put on myself, but anyway, I read this book, defining decade, and she was talking about how your identity capital, you yourself, it's not really about finding yourself, it's about building yourself into who you want to be.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I did the top role as like all the interesting things that you love and people and all of that stuff I'm bowturing this, but basically that's all capital creating who you want to be.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: And so it made me lean even more into hobbies.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like I started gardening.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: I was reading a ton.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: I was cooking a ton because I just bought my first house.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like in a home that I actually had a kitchen.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, obviously I had had a kitchen partner.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: I like it was easy.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I was living alone.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: I got more into that.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: I ended up getting into needlepoint in all of those things and it gave me such a sense of independence and honestly confidence.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it just made my life better.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like I feel like a lot of the things too that I didn't love about my life.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Or especially if you think about this, if you're just wanting to get off your phone and get a hobby, you're never going to just get off your phone.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: If you're just sitting there and it's like, today, I'm not going to go my phone.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: you're never going to do that.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to, we're all at it to our phones, you're always going to be grabbing for it for myself when I've noticed works when I'm wanting to just stop doing whatever it is, is I crowd it out.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I just have to find something that I like to do in place at that because it's like, what's the cool, I always, how many times do I say, I always put you this, but I do like idle times, devil's playground or whatever.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't answer the devil's play things.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: So that I feel like if you're trying to like really create this life that you want, like you have to just find things that you really like to do.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's a really great reminder to so many people.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like such an easy thought to say like creating your life because I remember being 25 and being like, I don't know what to do.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: because I don't really know who I am, but I am already like established as a person, and I felt like I needed to like quote unquote find myself in who I already was, but it was again like I saw a quote or like a throw pillow or like a needle pointed sign that was like you can create your life, and it was like centered suddenly around like finding new things that I love, rediscovering things that I love, and I can create the person that I want to be, that I think you get so tripped up in your 20s of like this is what I was expecting for my life.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Create whoever you want to be based on what you want now.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I always use say customize your life like customize it to kind of tailor fit it to be who you want to show up as one of the things you said recently can see on a podcast episode I was listening to is that confidence comes from showing up for yourself repeatedly and I do think that that comes in the form of hobbies, especially if you're trying to get off of your phone.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: because I think a lot of people are right now, it's very trendy to be analog, and I know you've been doing that for a long time, it's not about it being a trend, it's about it being a lifestyle, a religion, as we say, on Gilmore Girls, because it really has to be, and confidence comes from showing up every single day as that version of yourself that you want to be.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's so important to remember.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think especially as a woman, where we're told constantly to take a plus space and serve everyone else and never be self-centered, never whatever.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think hobbies are such a great way to have your own thing and to keep it that way.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas maybe you don't want to work when you have kids, maybe you don't like whatever path you choose, like at least you have something for yourself.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it also not even,
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like in a more Gilmore Girls way, the community that hobbies give you are so cool.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like something that I love the most about Gilmore Girls is how like multi-generational that show is and I just think it's such a cool thing because it's not something that like at at least in my other shows that I watch that I really see as much and just like obviously the character development and stuff it's just a little more focused on.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love that like Roy is around like patty like I like that aspect of it and with hobbies it's so cool like I was talking to my gardening friend Bobby who's I think he said he was like 54 yesterday he was over we're recording for my podcast but he comes over and how to make garden all time it's like some man that I met at the farmers market who was selling me like seedling starters and like he just started helping me and now like he comes over and like him like everyone lives a plus my boyfriend like him and Tarlie talk all the time like
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: I know people like women who are a lot older than me that I've been exposed to and gotten to like the relationships with their needlepoint.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like I just feel like the people in the community that a lot of these hobbies have brought me have also brought me like so much more to my life like whether it be wisdom or comfort or just being able to like hear from them and learn from their experiences or just have that sort of like different relationship with my life.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like the best part of it.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I was listening to part of the episode of your podcast.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: We are grandmother comes on, which is so much fun.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: I love that you guys were needle pointing while you were talking.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: That just felt like we were just hanging out with the two of you.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: Just like on and with the girls.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: And you normal day speaking to like, I guess the multi-generational aspect of it.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: You ask her what her favorite book was.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: And her response was Charlie's favorite book.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I loved it.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: that nature like shows up in all points of your life that you're talking about like Bobby, but your grandma's like relating to Charlie and they have the same favorite book and that just like if you'll still go more girls like witnessing your life in that way.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: Totally.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_02]: It really does.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I thought you were going to say that you love pillars of the earth and I was in a bit like, oh, weren't he?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: No, I want to read it now.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: If I don't read that book tomorrow,
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: But it's my mom is in her book too.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: Pillows up the earth everyone But I hear it's like 800 pages which like I can commit to that, but it was a thousand but oh wow I can do that Thousand and like gummer girls yeah, yeah, exactly
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, but I loved that she and like you talk all the time about Charlie and how he's like an angel on earth But I loved hearing it from your grandma to how much she loves him because you're like that's when you know When you're out of them.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my mom everyone in my family like likes him more like and friends family Now it's to the point where people come over in the house and they like work on the house and they're talking to Charlie more And I'm like, all right, like I think I'm like let's go back to me.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know This is the camera
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: So speaking to the multi-generational nature of Gilmore girls, talk to me about how you got into the show.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember when you first watched the show and did that have anything to do with the relationships you had with your mom and your grandma?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I watched it, like, honor off growing up.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't ever watch it chronologically.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: I knew the show.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: I would watch things.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: Something about me is that I don't watch TV and I don't watch new shows.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: My best friend, Dom, was staying with me.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: This would have been, like, 2020.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: She would just come and stay with me for like months at a time, maybe 2021 and her and my dog fits were always on the couch watching Gilmar girls, but I'm so like it was hard for me to just sit and watch a show.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've gotten better at it since needle pointing right at this time.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was like not watching anything.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: I would only read if I was laying down doing whatever I was just like the worst at this point and she would always ask me like, please just sit down and watch Gilmar girls.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: You'll love it.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I know that I love Gilmar girls.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't want to.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Sit and watch anything.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: My dog fits was obsessed like he would sit down specifically for any still as this way and now Charlie's obsessed with the Gamma girls and watches it like with the eye will leave and he comes I'll come home and he's poor episodes in with fits on the couch watching
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: the girl.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, Amanda for all our hearts.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: He loves it, but he, honestly, he's more in the know on things right now because he's like really, really watching it.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: Did you introduce him to it or did he already watch it?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: No, I introduced him.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: You, I'm sure he's seen stuff, but I don't know.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he and a group of sisters, so sometimes I'm like, you really know nothing.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you don't agree with the sisters, it's a gift.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he doesn't know, like, there's so many things that I'm like, really, but I guess I don't know the guy stuff.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't need to.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's unnecessary.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: I probably in 21, followed 21, just started from the top and then I've probably rewalt it.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: Actually chronologically like six times since.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's always like that.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: So it's on the house all the time and it's just the best show.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: And you learn something new every time you rewatch it.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, it's just so layered.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: It has so much depth to its character and its storylines and its relationships that you can, we still, like we've been watching this show since we were 12 and we have a whole podcast about it.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And we discover new things via each other, via our listeners, just via rewatching my fiance.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I just finished the show.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: It took him three years to get through.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, okay, we're gonna work on that.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: But he's the same way.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like sit down and watch a show.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: He has his things, but he'll watch YouTube for hours.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but he's like, we can't watch a TV.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: I would watch YouTube, but I wouldn't watch TV.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: I, but I was a YouTube kid.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: So it makes it okay.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: That makes sense.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_02]: It is crazy.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: I would be like, I know it's weird, but I just, I don't know why.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: No, we were talking about, or we weren't talking about it the other day.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: But Haley posted a reel that was so relatable.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: She was like, I can't sit down and watch a three-hour movie, but I will watch six episodes of whatever TV show.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I watched two seasons of Piki Blinders because I couldn't decide on a movie to watch because they felt too long.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: What is it about do you think like watching TV versus like reading that like you can sit and read a full book?
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: But you can't like commit to watching a TV show.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think that with
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: with the reading, my hands were busy and so I couldn't get up my phone and I couldn't like pull out my laptop and start working or something.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: So with reading, I was totally focused and I could actually like turn my brain off with watching shows, I would just get you distracted.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's really what it was.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's why when I started needle pointing, I could watch a show because I was focused on something and then it was like, that's how I've gotten back into TV.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was because I had something to do while watching it, which maybe set your hands almost.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, basically.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: Are you able to watch like a new TV show while your meal pointing or do you does it have to be something you've already seen before?
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: I can watch a new show I prefer not to like we been watching like we've been watching Gilmar girls we're really in a law and order right now so we went through like we're on like organized crime like we're going through the whole thing.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: Oh wow.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: In like technically, that's a new show to me, but I've washed law and worn in my whole life.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: So like, yeah, it's the kind of the same thing every single episode.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: What's so cool?
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: And even though I, of course, like, wash it chronologically five years ago for the first time technically, but I grew up watching and I knew the show as a kid, I, I, I just like every time you watch it, you get like what you're saying, you get something new out of it.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: What's interesting is as you age, how you start to have empathy for certain characters.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: growing up as a kid, you're like, more or less a close mom ever and Emily sucks.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: And then as an older, it's like, I actually understand this more and that's not necessarily healthy.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not like the police about that stuff.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not like, oh, I hate so much.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't really care not much, but I like understand.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I don't think Emily is like evil.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think she's just insecure and paterlike self-worth in the wrong things and does it.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know what I mean?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think up it as a kid.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, she's the worst.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, absolutely, and Laura Life feels like this aspirational mom, who's like so cool, and I really identified with Laura Life when I was a kid, which was so funny, because I was invested in Marie's boyfriend's, but I did not identify with her in the same way.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Haley's a little different.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: She very much identified with Marie.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: She wanted to be where you go more.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Did you identify with any of the characters when you were younger versus identifying with them differently now?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Charlie and I were talking about this when we were watching recently and I'm like, it's interesting that it's one show that we watched, that I don't feel like anyone in those shows is either one of us.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm so cool.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like if anything, I'm a cross between Roy and Moralye.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: Because I am weirdly like my video team was talking to the sister that you're weirdly very laid back and you would never guess that about me because I don't come off that way at all.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: But I grew up with so many siblings.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: You don't really have to kind of just roll with things and whatever.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not, like,
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: my least favorite quality and a person is someone who's very pretentious and things that they're better because of some sort of class or money or whatever.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I just don't, like as much as like I have empathy and I don't dislike Emily.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't, like I don't relate to her.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like I see why she acts the way that she does, but I don't feel connected to her in that way.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think I have more respect for her as I've gone older.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I do, I don't think I'm, well, I mean,
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: go there.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: But like, let's say Roy through Gilmour girls.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: I was never Roy, but I was never the real life.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like I was like a mix between the two.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: Did you?
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I don't know if you've seen the Marvelous Mrs. Mazeal, but you feel more like Mitch Mazeal, where it's like she feels like a marriage of the two of them.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's like Roy's very ambitious and she has a ton of goals.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: But, Lorla is very outgoing and very whimsical and I feel like when you like blend those qualities together.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like you come out in that way, maybe like with a little
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: a little suki with her cooking that I feel like we're going to see all the great you you're all the best of all the girls yeah I think that what you spoke to earlier about like as you age you watch the show a lot differently because you can identify with more of the characters
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: not necessarily like you said in the sense that you relate to them because I do think it's really hard for people to relate to Emily, but she's such a delicious character to watch.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: Was there anybody who growing up?
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: You were like, I besides Emily where you were like, I don't get you, but that you truly were like, I do not like this person.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: I do not identify with this person at all that as you've aged you're like, oh, I understand them a little bit.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how much I don't think I'm gone to the point where like I love the guy but like Taylor specifically, I think I just thought it was like such a buzz kill.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I understand as an adult how he's such a good character.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like he really is but he just drove me insane before but he's like the bat.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like anger in Kirk like make start hollow.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: They are like the the two polar opposites that is start hollow or like them too.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like maybe Taylor.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I feel like that makes sense.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people feel that way that it's like when you're young like you're like, okay, let's go back to Rory, let's go back to the boyfriend's like what's Laura Lai doing like cut Taylor cut Kirk, but like as an adult you like appreciate so much about They add to the community, especially as someone who's like as community minded as you you're like everyone is essential everyone plays a role here Which I I love that aspect of it
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: But, speaking of the boyfriends, we asked for some kind of like your opinions beforehand to kind of just guide the conversation, what you were thinking about, what you like to like talk about, and the first point that you made, I would love to bring up right now, and that is that you hate Logan.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, I do.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Are you a team chess girl?
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but here's the thing.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: I understand.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: I almost went with Logan for the answer on the last one because I do understand him being like the consistent better match.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: I do get that.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: I also like in year in the life.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: I really am like.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they just did very, so dirty that I'm like, I'm improvising with Logan.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think I just, look, I said before, I hate pretentious, like, I hate not group of people.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I was never gonna like him like really to begin with.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: I hate him last at a button order for sure.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: But just to just more my vibe of a person, and I might know like that is like, who she loves, you know?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I understand that like I do see how Logan is the consistent one that wanted to be with her that did things ingest was like less consistent like probably one and two but never did like that kind of thing.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he wasn't emotionally developed enough to have a relationship with a girl like Rory Gilmar.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: He just wasn't.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_02]: Totally, but as a person of Iowa to meet Logan at a party, I would hate him.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's not kind of person.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's like Loki Fair.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was just talking to an author about that yesterday.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: If someone's a little too confident in person, I'm like, I don't know.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: I understand and I respect the team Logan.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I get it.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like I really do.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like, it's not really his fault that that is the one quality eye chosen that I despise.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: And he just doesn't.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: You don't even mean like to understand like logistically with their relationship.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's really generous of you to say that it's your fault that you have.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: As someone who's on Team Jess, I understand Team Logan and so Hayley is Team Logan.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: I will say I call him a loser all the time though.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: She talks about how much a loser he has for sure.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the things that we kind of came together on was like, she understands the hype for Jess.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: She, we were re-watching season that really seasons together.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: And she was like, oh my god, I swoon for Jess Mariano.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: You can't look at my love at Tamilia and be like, at least I, I've never met a person who can.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: But as I've got an older and as I've done this podcast with Haley, who really rides hard for Logan,
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: I have a deeper appreciation for him for their relationship.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: I understand why they worked so well together.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: I just prefer just I'm an early season's girl.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: When I get to season five, it's a great season.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: But especially as we head into like season six, seven territory, I'm a little bit like, I don't know if this is my home.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: I want to go back home.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: Are you like that to you like the early seasons?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have to take towards those more?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm an early season girl.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: I love, I love all of them.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the last season, obviously, there was some things going on.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: I also just like, hey, Christopher, but that's not a, that's not an unpopular take, obviously.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of, we would be worried if you didn't.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that would be a question.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, the person it's absolutely.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: The way that I view it weirdly is like, Luke is just to me, and like, Christopher is Logan.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: Even though that's not really a fair assessment, but I do think that those were like the parallels they were trying to write.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people think that, yeah.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think so too.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's really fair, but like that's just like how I see it.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I think that like you want to, like you, you like, oh, I wanted to be roaring, growing up.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you wanted to be roaring, growing up, like you like Logan, because Logan makes sense for roaring.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Hot, super.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: And he actually is like showing up and doing all of these things.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, sorry.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is a complete tangent, but this is just the audience that I need to boy.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: This is to have either of you those red strangers.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, but I want to.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: You guys have to re-changer the amazing.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so anyway listening, please just DM me if you agree with this take.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not spoiling anything in this, just, you know, it's okay.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a memoir, right?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's a memoir and it's, it's basically the fall of her marriage.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's such an amazing, amazing, great, very quick to write in with less than a death.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: But when Bell gives up, like she's in a writing course in college, she wants to go to school for writing.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: One person, one man in class, says, I don't think you're very good at this.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: You shouldn't be doing this.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: And she leaves.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, okay, like, Rory, literally Rory and Logan's out.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great parallel.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've talked about this many times, especially we did like we have a rewatch podcast on Patreon where we were going through episode by episode.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: And when we do get to the end of season five and Mitch and tells her, you know, got it.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: And she just like absolutely lets that one comment, control the direction for the rest of her life.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: I understand having a crash out about it in the immediate moment and being like am I am I not meant to do this am I not built for this did I choose the wrong career this man who's like very big in this industry is telling me I did I feel like we've all been there at some point in our lives you can't you can't
- 32:37[SPEAKER_02]: you're gonna let one man's opinion ruin everything you're gonna drop out of school like it just it was too far it's delicious drama but it was too far now I really want to read that it was so dumb like you you know I if you had never lost the day on the internet let me tell you that much but I understand a TV and we needed to do that but yeah I've looked that's kind of if I'm looking at it
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't look, it starts to be like, and then I feel like she never really catches her footing again.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like maybe she just didn't in schooling was what gave her that structure and a lot of her identity.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, whatever it might be, but her reaction and response to that was so crazy.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I also feel like that's the sort of thing where on behalf of the writers, they never return worry to that worry that like feels really like who we've always known and like it's okay to let this point have like a 20 year old character who we met when she was 16.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: change.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: We love that.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: We love change.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: We love evolving.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think we ever get back to the core of who she was.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if that was like a writing choice to never really take her back there.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: But it like from like mid season six when she decides could take her back to Yale.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: Until kind of the end of the revival, she just becomes very like boy centric.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like she loses that like drive and
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: Whether or not it was because of one man's opinion and like I always think that Mitchel was wrong because it is wrong for a grown man to look at a 20-year-old girl and be like you don't have what it takes it's like okay I've been at this for like 14 minutes give me a second to cook but I think it's like her response to it that I'm always like you let one person decide.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone says that you're going to get a million nose and you just need one.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, like I'm sure she had been told that over and over and she just let it go.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I also think she had yes her whole life.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, she got a lot of what she wanted that one no rockter.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: She was very coddled and she was the star and she was obviously genius and like you know she was like the even not even outside of Laura lie like the town she's everyone's favorite kids so I understand that but it could have been a really good learning lesson for her to like gain confidence and it could have taken Rory into a different direction but instead she just fell like it was crazy
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I agree, Haley, that a lot of her fall really takes place after she reconciles with her mom and she goes back to school.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you take a tumble, you spend a few episodes away from college and you decide, okay, I'm going to dust myself off, pick myself back up, get back on course, cool.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: but then what they chose to do with her throughout the remainder of the series didn't necessarily ever really bring us home to Roy Gilmore.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's why a lot of people fall off on her character.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: I also think we just recently talked about this.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: We actually did like a line by line breakdown of this scene between Roy and Laura Lye.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about her...
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: sleeping with the end at the end of season four.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: And how that is really kind of the it kind of is like the ignition key turning on Vory departing from the character that we all came to know and root for.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're sorry.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's 100% it.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: Charlie just like he's probably like one season had that and we've been talking about that and like that was
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: And also, that was a time where you really see Lorelei be a mom.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Lorelei was not a yes man and that and said, this is wrong and you can see like she's kind of disgusted.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like she's like, I think she's like in shock.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: That is a product of Rory.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's just being used to getting everything that she wants.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not a Rory here, by the way.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm really not feeling like Rory.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_02]: to like carry Bradshaw and that now is your order everywhere.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's like cool to hate her.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I don't think that I think her fall and like people know it's just so a lot of really, you know, smaller big moments that have led to this and she's just she's almost like unrecognizable.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: Especially in your like, what is happening?
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about that because one of your takes that Madison shared with us also was that you really love to hear in the life.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, I know we've kind of talked about Harry to parts from herself, but what did you love about that specific chapter of Gilmore Girls?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: So, there was two things.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: One, I just love anything else I can get.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care how bad it was.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really like that.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I don't know.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, no sequel you're going to ruin it.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, it depends on what it is.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: If I love it enough, I don't care.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: I just want more.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like when they talk about the crisis, maybe I'm like, I could cry.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's what I told one to begin with.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: by the way.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: But I liked it.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: I really didn't think it was the worst thing ever, but I'm not a critic.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, you know, I'm not a huge TV movie person.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I don't really know what I'm talking about.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: And then I also love the Emily end up on an end talk.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: It could not figure a place in the entire world.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I liked that she goes to that wailing museum because I go there too.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: So those are the two top rings.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: But it's because I'm not a critic.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I just like to see more of it.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: And honestly, Emily, like that year in the life, did Roy so dirty and made Emily be like the crowd favorite.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: She really, really source in that.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's devastating because of everything that it took to get her there because it took losing Richard for that storyline to really come to fruition for her.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it really, she was the star of the revival in a lot of ways because her story line is just so beautiful after such a heartbreaking impetus, you know.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: Did you guys read Kelly Bishop's memoir?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: We devoured that memoir.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's not.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: I listened to it too, so I get to take care of her voice.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then I feel before connected because of her relationship Richard also speaking of you in the life, like four, which this is good, because I want to do for my girl's friends giving, that was like Star's Hollow.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: But I wanted you to like an Emily Kimmer.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like I want to be more creative with them, but that just gives me a sense of her thing.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: But before I was going to turn my dining room into the like Gilmar girl's dining room or the Emily and Richard dining room, and I was looking everywhere to get a massive like painting of Richard made, but it's like, that's much good to say that's what you're like, how hard can I commit to this?
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so I'm pushing that off until budgets are higher, but I will be doing that.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: I agree though I just think to Emily it really it's really cool to see like how she handles it I don't know I just like I just liked it.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's not the same feel.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's not the same vibe
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was 2016.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: There was no way to make it the same vibe.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: We're like two-minded about it.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think that the way that we watch the show on Patreon is like we recap like every detail of it.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: So sometimes episodes that like we absolutely love will like tear them to shreds just going.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: So deep as we do into it.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that like when we ultimately pulled back on their arrival, we kind of loved it.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like we just loved all of these like little bits, but ultimately
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: was a kind of like how like a sad tone to it, but we very much agree that we love the Emily storyline.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like the circumstances of that hard to deal with, but ultimately the arc that comes from it hurt the end, putting on her little kids, going to the whaling museum, like,
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: the theatrical side of Kelly Bishop coming out like that just felt so perfect that like this whole show where we watched a community be built around Laura Lianbury and it really felt like Emily's community was her husband that when we get to the end of her storyline and the revival she has this community around her now this like quirky community with her maid and her maid's family and it's just kind of where she settled so we feel very mixed about it there's a lot of
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: the Rory part of it, this is hard, this is hard to see, but I waited nine years from the finale into the revival, and so like the moment that it started, I was just sobbing because it was back with my friends again.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: I get it if you're a purist with it, I understand like don't touch it, but I just like I like that, like I'm totally fine with more.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: Also the very beginning when Rory like he's forgetting my her boyfriend in case you're gonna use him and everyone's like She's the worst.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's so awful.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be honest like I had a boyfriend in college It's like I was like why did I was watching the show like why does it remind you of something and it like took me So I'm like oh my god, I had a boyfriend like I'm encouraged.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: I would break up with an owner I mean like wouldn't like leave me alone like not really like fully my fault.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean stuff
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I had some, and I didn't know what was supposed to look at me.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: And again, it was broad.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there was a point, what was this name again?
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: But it was just not a good relationship.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: We should never have been together.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: But I had one of those in college.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, you know, it happens to people.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like that's what makes sense.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the parts of like a show that feel like your life is always gonna be what you gravitate towards.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because like, it's like really trendy on the internet to hate, or like, you talked about like, carry Bradshaw.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's like just cool to hate her.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: That I remember when Kristen Stewart came out
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: She loves for you because she loves all the mistakes that she made that she like sees herself in that and I think it's just like wherever you're at in your life Like if you had a boyfriend that felt like Paul you're gonna love that storyline because you're like, okay, wasn't just me Yeah, oh, I get that actually and I didn't even like watching and I thought it was annoying and mean rude like I wasn't
- 41:41[SPEAKER_02]: doing the things that they were doing was like, what was it?
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: I would just like, forget.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, we should not be together.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I forgot that we're like still.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I, my roommate, my best friend and I were living together.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we would be broken up for two weeks.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, oh, we broke up like two weeks.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't even bring it up.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: That is how much it just was not.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was, it's bad.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's really bad.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: I like Rory, I, that's the same reason that I love them with the correspondent because the main character is very flawed and feels very real.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I like that specifically when we're centering a book around a woman who is a real woman who's actually older in his God forbid, as made mistakes, and maybe isn't the warm rest or isn't the kindness, and if you aren't those two things is a woman you're banished to hell.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: I love them a lot of the correspondent in the same way that I love that about the characters and kill our girls.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 100%.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think that we often remind our listeners, cause of course this is a show where we are meant to dissect or we've chosen to dissect the characters and to talk about them like their real people.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: Cause I think that's what you do with the show with the show that's so layered.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: But we also have to remind people that we're like, hey, if someone put a camera on you and you were the main character of the story of your life and every single mistake you made was on display, you might have a group of people who like scrutinized and criticized you the same way.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe let's...
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: pull it back a little bit.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: Talk to me about this take because we truly have never discussed this before.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: You said we glossed over the fact that Richard didn't care about Rory for the first 16 years of her life and that hit Haley and I in the fields.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: We were obsessed with that.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like after we read that, we were like wait.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've never fully typed into this.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: We have to talk.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: And this is kind of like Richards, one of my favorite characters.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: So I love Richards, like I am, but it is so crazy because I honestly, I didn't even really remember that happening until like rewatching it a couple years ago and it always forget like by the end of a rewatch and then you get, it's still weird how uninterested he was, he was forced to take her to go to go golfing.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: he wanted nothing to do with her like very very horrible grandfather and then of course he turned to corner and it's great in that and it had an amazing relationship but we just completely got sort of like no one ever talks about that with Gilmar calls that was crazy and it wasn't until like he realized like oh she's smart oh she's interesting oh we have shared
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, penetrates.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can go show her off to my friend.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: I can go totally.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, you have proven your value to me.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_02]: And now I like you, therefore, you can be around.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I love their relationship.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I love for that go.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, what if she was interested in like, musical theater in lip gloss instead of going to FES?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh God, she wasn't smart.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: There would be nothing there.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like if she wasn't, there's absolutely nothing.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that that's maybe part of why he like had such a gets chip on his shoulders?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the wrong word, but with war lies like she was so smart, but that's not what she was pursuing.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: She just didn't want to fit into their bubble in their mold and like Laurie obviously fit way better into it.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that that was the One thing about Richard and Emily is that I do think that people there's this test Susie Welch values quiz.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's the greatest thing ever.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: There's neither of eyes, everyone has a percentage of everything.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: I cannot recommend taking this quiz enough, but it really helps you to understand yourself and other people around you.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: And when I think about what I think, and it's not like, my values are family in this and that, it's like, there's things like, you know, opulence or freedom or just things that you wouldn't necessarily think.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's like doctors who do well to this, she's amazing, whatever.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: When I think about what Richard and Emily's values are, which would then be likely how you're living your life, it is how people view them.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like it is, that is really will always come that will come about their relationship with our daughter, about their relationship with our grandma, or their granddaughter, like that is their number one thing.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, for the lower lie,
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: before getting pregnant in high school, Vorlai was already not something that they could show off and be their show ponies, so she was really not only was she just like no good to them, she was also a nuisance, like she embarrassed them because that's their number one thing.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: So they couldn't have a healthy normal relationship with their child and just understand like, you need to support her girl, because that is not how they operate, like it's not what they care about.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: We actually recently did an episode kind of comparing the parenting styles of Emily to the parenting styles of Mrs. Kim because they were both very strict the relationships that that Laurelite and Lane had and kind of their mirrored upbringing.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting because a lot of people were like, well, Mrs. Kim was raising an environment where like her religion really took the driver's seat.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't until I read those comments that I was like, well, I feel like
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: that they absolutely worship.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it's fascinating to me to then kind of jump forward in time, see the way that worry enters their lives and how much they love her and see how much she aligns with their ideal of what their religion so to speak should be and how they should be presenting.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I could not agree with you more that until she really comes on the scene, I don't think that Richard really considers that he has no relationship with his daughter.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: nearly as much as Emily does by don't either and I actually want to go back and change my answer to the question earlier about like who's someone that's growing on you over the years like Mrs. Kim.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: That is someone growing up as a kid.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: You would watch her and she's I mean she trust me by no means is she a perfect mother my god but like
- 47:12[SPEAKER_02]: He, I felt like as a kid, I couldn't understand her and I understand her a lot more and I think also in contrast with Laura, you think Laura, is this perfect amazing mom that everyone wants and then you see Mrs. Kim as so strict and you know the great answer will probably be somewhere in the middle as far as parenting sounds go but that is someone who has I've gotten older and I love her like she is such an amazing character.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: She's so like funny and doesn't need to be in like
- 47:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like when she's talking about whenever Lane's getting married, she's like, you only have to have sex once.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like you, oh, and then you have to be like, yeah.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're lucky, you only have to do it once.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's so cool.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's so cool.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's wonderful.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: She looks so good.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: She's so serious.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: And the nature of their relationship that it feels like she's going to be the last person who's open to change, who's open to evolving.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: But by the time we do get to that conversation between her and Lane, it feels like maybe they're not quite friends, but they're a lot more friendly than they used to be when she was younger and she was like locking her up in her room that they got to the point where they
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Respectfully to some degree.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: Totally.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: Rolling it back to the Richard of it all.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: The other take that we've talked about and we have to kind of expand on a little bit.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually going to do it for Father's Day.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: Is that we find that Richard tends to be more teem-worryy and Emily tends to be more teem-worry-ly.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that really shines through at the end of season five when Lori decides to drop out of school.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they have this plan where Laura like goes to her parents and they're like, this is not happening.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: She's not dropping out of school.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not until Lori comes to Richard that the plan changes and that you can tell that Emily wanted to go along with the plan to keep Laura lie and Richard was willing to sacrifice Laura lie for free.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's like a common affair of also war, like Emily wanting the mom to always do the one making the calls because she wanted that.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like not only is she not want to lose me, but I also think it's no you listen to your mom and your mom is always right in their kind of like rewriting history.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's like healing for Emily in a way.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know what you mean?
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's so, so true.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even think of it that way because they do have conversations like that where Emily will try to be like, no you're her mother, Laura,
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: She's talking to, it's almost like she's speaking into a mirror, but also like trying to talk some sense into Lora and their relationship as mother and daughter, as she is also a mother having a daughter.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's, and again, that just takes me back to the fact that every single time we watch the show, we like find a new layer.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, yeah, Kenzie, you just unlocked something in my mind.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that is totally it.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she listened to Laura and she's like, you have to listen to your mom.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: Because, like, of course, Emily is like a green with Laura lie.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm thinking back to when Laura was like, seeing Jess and Emily was like, you have to stop this.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: And Laura, I was kind of realizing, like, oh, I don't want to be like this.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: In that moment, she was like, oh, my gosh, she was listening to your mom.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: Laura lies right.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: it's because it's only it's healing you just listen to your mom and that's it's also a generational thing but I think it's also because Rory is the daughter that Richard and Emily always wanted but Emily is the mother and doesn't lose your daughter gonna of course and doesn't want the drama and like finally has her family back together but I do think the root of like you listen to your mom also comes from her wishing that people had listened to her.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that's so true.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought about it from that perspective before.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's so real.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think though that like coming back to that like idea that you that you gave to us that like Richard didn't really have anything to do with Warrior except for like Christmas and Easter, it seemed like like on the the pilot when he was like, oh, is it Easter already?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because that's like the only times that he would see them.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that that has something to do with him being Team Rory?
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: because he'd like maybe kind of give an up-and-more lie and the first introduction to having a relationship with where he was like, oh, she's interesting and I like her.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I seriously think it's that Rory is the daughter that he wanted.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like Rory is easy for him, Rory.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like Richard doesn't want to be involved in quote drama, which is what he sees Laura lie as, whether it's Laura lies online or Laura lies relationship with Emily.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: I do think it has to do with the fact that
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: Roy is the daughter that Richard and Emily wanted and it's easy for him.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't have to put in a lot of work because they really just, they're wired very similarly and they get each other and they're the same interest and like she's definitely following into the life path that he wanted, lower light to fall through.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not trying to like keep talking negatively about Richard because I actually really do genuinely like him but I think he's also a man who's highly successful and he does it.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_02]: well with failure.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: So when you've in a sense fails as a parent, I think is a man specifically.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_02]: You kind of run from that.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that that also probably absolutely with it.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I do think that his relationship with Rory is kind of writing his wrongs in a way.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_02]: But I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he's lazy and doesn't have to try with her because it's so easy.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then he likes her.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's not that he doesn't try and have a relationship with her.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: Is that he does not have to try hard because it comes very naturally to them where it did
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, all of your opinions about Richard today are kind of like hitting me like straight in the brain like I'm having to like really think about this that like Richard is kind of lazy in that regard of like he just kind of lives his life and worry fits into it rather seamlessly and just the idea of like a father who's failing is like kind of more likely to run away from it than Emily who's going to like push even harder and try to scheme her way back into it.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's so interesting and never really thought about that for and now my mind is like
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: racing loan.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: So many so many thoughts are happening right now.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like there's going to be so many conversations after this conversation I have a terror that I like have to like I have to unpack the Kinsey opinions.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we've talked about your podcast house guest If there was one Gilmore Girls character who you would want to have on is your house guest who would it be?
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: My dream would be Kelly Bishop.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but I meant like character.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: I still think Emily would be the best though, because I think from the grandma perspective, like house guests, it's a lot of like multi-generational.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: I would love to have Kirk on too, just because I think it would go funny.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: And like, you're talking about his jobs.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm trying to have a good episode, like a true good, you're going to get something from it.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: It would be Emily if I'm trying to have or Suki would actually probably make the most sense.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to say, okay, would you be Emily and then it will be Kirk?
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: That would be such like a fun run of episodes.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be so different.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you couldn't give Emily a hobby, so she could like calm the fuck down.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: What hobby would you give her?
- 53:41[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, she'd be more into Mawjong because she could do it with her friends.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: And it's very like a lot of, it's kind of an age range that likes to play a lot.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, obviously all different ages of people, whatever, like to play.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: But it's very popular amongst like older people.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then I think needlepoint, like she would like needlepoint, but she doesn't sit down.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I think she should need a point.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: That'll be the best thing for her.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: But realistically, she's going to play Masha because she can have a drink with her friends.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she loves a game.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: She loves a bridge night.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like a mage-on.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_00]: Just be like perfect.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: If she was going to be needle pointing, what like cheeky saying would you give to her to needle point?
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe to like sum her up or like something, she needs to be reminded of.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, when I see that the please leap by nine ones or like something of she would definitely not have like a ray done type saying.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely not.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_02]: the only one that I can think of would be like because she's I'm trying to think of ours like she wouldn't have cereal hobby.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's Kirk really is the original cereal hobbyist.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's the Barbie girl.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_02]: He they're jobs but like he really is.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think her to be like please leave my nine or something like that.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah totally.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: So this is how we usually wrap up our we did this last year when it was the 25th anniversary but we'd love to kind of wrap up our guest episodes with one question and that is what do you think is the legacy of Gilmore Girls?
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: Gilmore Girls is a constant in your life that is something like I don't know if I'm I'm trying to put this into words and I don't know if I'm going to be able to answer I just scribe it well to answer this question, but in the legacy of Gilmore Girls is it it's a multi-generational show It's it's just like a constant like it's the most you know what I'm trying to say like I always say you can come back home You can always come back home
- 55:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it's like no matter what's happening, no matter where you are in the world, no matter what you're going through, what life is your end, if you're a child, if you're having your first kid, if you're a grandmother, like it doesn't matter, there's something for you in that show, and I think growing up like watching it, and then you continue, you can watch the show until like the date die.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_02]: And there's always something, so I think that the legacy is the constant that Gilmar Crolls is.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's not medicine.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like a time, it's timeless and so it can fit into any part of your life.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what everyone loves about it.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's why your dog can watch it.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's why Charlie can love it.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: What is it about the show do you think that your dog can hook in on?
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know because Dom, who I was wearing was watching the show with him, she loves TV, she always has.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like she knows everything about TV, she's very knowledgeable, and she's like very knowledgeable in the space.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_02]: She should watch everything.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: And like they would all like, he'd be around, but every time Gilmore Girls came on, he was locked in, and she would say that to me, and I thought, like, I was like, oh, aha, whatever.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: And as time went on, I'm like, oh, the dog loves Gilmore Girls.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, did he react differently when Paulink came on when there would like be a dog on the screen?
- 56:38[SPEAKER_02]: No, he literally sits on the couch and watches the screen.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't even really lay down.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: There's so many photos of them from my townhouse where they're on the couch and he just sits in watches it.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: He's locked there in the app.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's locked there in the app.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen anything like that.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he said I'm watching, he's a person.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm watching my people when a dog comes on, he's like, that's a dog.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really know.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: Who's like, I want to start a call.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta go.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta go.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: I love that so much.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: That feels like it's just like a comfy cozy.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: I say whenever whenever you're dogs in your vlogs and barks, I always think there's a dog barking at my house because your dog is exactly like our dog who died in like two years ago, the exact same way.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: My sister came in and she goes, is that it dog?
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like my Lee.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, no, it's probably asking to watch him more girls.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Kenzie, thank you so much for being here with us today.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: We have to have to come to Dallas and do an event together.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: It would just be so much fun.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: And we have to go to Los Angeles and do the, I think it's called like holidays made here or something the LA tour.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll be so much fun.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_00]: Go to a certain point.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_02]: When I say that was Dom and I went together, I have a photo of us there framed over there behind me.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: When I say that was the best four hours of my life.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I could have stayed longer, but she had things to do.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_02]: Hi.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_02]: It was seriously, and they served.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they couldn't have done that better.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_02]: It was the best day in my life.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: We have to go.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Personally, though, I have to come to friends giving when you get the Richard picture.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: Such a little bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: Figure it out.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: Let me know.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: At this point with what they're trying to charge the money, we're going to need to be sponsored for that.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I need to find like a vis-à-vis sponsorship or something like that.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I need to find like a vis-à-vis sponsorship or something like that.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I need to find like a vis-à-vis sponsorship or something like that.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I need to find like a vis-à-vis sponsorship or something like that.
