- 0:00Particularly, but not exclusively in the beginning of
- 0:03the spiritual sadhna, the seeker has to find a way to navigate
- 0:07through the countless obstacles, resistances, and difficulties
- 0:11that arise as he tries to transition from a focus on the
- 0:16external responses of the ego, personality and the embedded
- 0:20habits, instincts, and trained responses that make up what he
- 0:24experiences on a day-to-day basis, to a new standpoint that
- 0:28can cut through the inevitable confusion and keep him focused
- 0:33on his spiritual practice. Unless the seeker is able to
- 0:37establish the independent standpoint of the witness
- 0:40consciousness or to shift his awareness to the psychic being
- 0:45and from there evaluate the meaning of the obstacles and the
- 0:49methods for working through them, he may find himself
- 0:52surrounded by misunderstanding, confusion and doubt about the
- 0:57way forward. Traditionally, it was recognized
- 1:01that the guidance of an experienced teacher, a guru, was
- 1:05needed to aid the seeker along the way.
- 1:09In the synthesis of Yoga, Sri Aurobindo identifies the true
- 1:13guru as the inner guide secret within us.
- 1:19He reminds us that quote. It shall also be a sign of the
- 1:24teacher of the Integral Yoga that he does not arrogate to
- 1:27himself Guru Hood in a humanly vain and self exalting spirit.
- 1:32His work, if he has 1, is a trust from above.
- 1:37He himself a channel, a vessel or a representative.
- 1:42He is a man helping his brothers, a child leading
- 1:46children, a light kindling, other lights, an awakened soul
- 1:51awakening other souls at highest a power or presence of the
- 1:56Divine calling to him other powers of the Divine.
- 2:01End Quote. When the soul is ready and the
- 2:06aspiration is strong, the inner Guide awakens and thereby can
- 2:12find whatever external guidance or aid, any teacher or just
- 2:17various situations or circumstances to advance the
- 2:21sadhna. Whether or not there is an
- 2:24external guru in the traditional sense, the seeker who is in
- 2:29contact with the inner guide and who steadfastly adheres to the
- 2:33guidance so provided, will be able to face and overcome the
- 2:38various difficulties along the way.
- 2:41In the course of time. It is the objective of the
- 2:46Integral Yoga to undertake a radical transformation of human
- 2:50life. Our thoughts, our vital
- 2:53motivations, our responses and reactions, our very physical
- 2:58existence, all of the past formations turn out to be the
- 3:03opportunities for working out the details of these changes.
- 3:07And thus, instead of bemoaning failures or difficulties, the
- 3:12seeker can look upon them as the very essence of the work of
- 3:16transformation that may take lifetimes and the efforts of
- 3:20many individuals, each working on certain aspects to fulfill.
- 3:27Srioro Bindo notes quote. The attitude you have taken is
- 3:33the right one. It is this feeling and attitude
- 3:36which help you to overcome so rapidly the attacks that
- 3:40sometimes fall upon you and throw you out of the right
- 3:44consciousness. As you say, difficulties so
- 3:47taken become opportunities. The difficulty faced in the
- 3:52right spirit and conquered. One finds that an obstacle has
- 3:56disappeared. A first step forward has been
- 3:59taken to question, to resist in some part of the being increases
- 4:05trouble and difficulties. That is why an unquestioning
- 4:10acceptance and unfailing obedience to the directions of
- 4:14the Guru was laid down as indispensable in the old Indian
- 4:18yogas. It was demanded not for the sake
- 4:23of the Guru but for the sake of the shishya.
