Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Effectuating the Formations of Imagination Over Time and Circumstance
Transcript
- 0:00Creating a detailed imagination is the first step in a future
- 0:04realization. The formation so devised will
- 0:08attempt to achieve its actualization in the world, yet
- 0:13it must contend with the readiness of the ground upon
- 0:16which it alights, the preparation of the soil, the
- 0:20proper support along the way, and avoidance of those forces
- 0:25and influences which will tend to either destroy, distract or
- 0:30delay its coming to fruition. The formation struggles to
- 0:35survive, grow, thrive and bear fruit.
- 0:39It may take time. The more far reaching the
- 0:42intended outcome, the longer it may take.
- 0:46Relatively simple desires may not have much difficulty in
- 0:49manifesting. It is similar to the way we
- 0:53receive new ideas in our brains. A neural pathway is developed,
- 0:58and it may take several repetitions to fully form
- 1:01itself. Once it is there, when the
- 1:04vibration rises, it can immediately follow that pathway.
- 1:09Something less common may take some time to work out the
- 1:12situation, and as the mother points out, most people have
- 1:17moved on from that formation by the time it comes to fruition,
- 1:22and they are left dealing with the fruits of a past action that
- 1:26they no longer really want to taste.
- 1:29If we leave behind, however, all the purely personal desires and
- 1:34formations of imagination and move toward the larger scope of
- 1:38the evolutionary destiny of the human race, we may consider that
- 1:43time, past habit, karmic energetic flows, and
- 1:47circumstances may throw up obstacles or delays, and thus we
- 1:53may not ourselves see the fruit of the formation.
- 1:57Rather, future generations will benefit from its realization.
- 2:03Imagine, for instance, that we can create a world of peace and
- 2:07harmony where all human beings live with due care and
- 2:11consideration for all others, and also in balance with the
- 2:15world, environment, and the other beings with whom we share
- 2:19the planet. We do not let our personal
- 2:23greed, lust, or desires intervene in this balance.
- 2:27We create economic and political systems that carry out this
- 2:31intention so that we have no cause for war, gang brutality,
- 2:37or anything that might cause mass migrations.
- 2:40That we bring climate change under control and thus reduce
- 2:44the spread of disease vectors and reduce the intensity of
- 2:48destructive weather events. Imagine a world that we can
- 2:53create, where art and music thrive, where people do not have
- 2:57to be enslaved their whole lives simply to survive, but can
- 3:01follow their ideals, their dreams and their visions.
- 3:06Such a world, you may say, is not foreseeable in our immediate
- 3:11future. Yet there is no reason that
- 3:15given enough time and enough powerful intention behind it,
- 3:19provided by many people who seek such a solution to the darkness
- 3:24and conflict we see in our present world situation, that
- 3:28such a result could not eventuate.
- 3:31Maybe 102 hundred, 300 or 400 years represents the time frame
- 3:39necessary for the changes to take hold and effectuate the
- 3:43foundation of such a world of peace and harmony.
- 3:47A disciple asks then is it through imagination that one can
- 3:52realize desires or aspirations? The mother responds, quote.
- 3:58That means what exactly do you want to say?
- 4:02Imagining that the desire is realized and in this way help
- 4:06its realization? Yes, certainly, quite certainly.
- 4:12And ideals also, the mother replies, quote.
- 4:17Only usually, Yes, almost totally.
- 4:21What people don't have at their disposal is the time it takes.
- 4:25But for instance, if you have a very powerful imagination and
- 4:30build up the realization of your desire, build it up well with
- 4:34all its details and everything, like an admirably made formation
- 4:39existing in itself. Totally, you see?
- 4:42Well, you may be sure that if you live long enough, the thing
- 4:47will be realized. It can be realized the next day,
- 4:52it can be realized the next minute.
- 4:55It can take years, it can take centuries, but it is sure to be
- 5:00realized. And then if to this imaginative
- 5:04power you add a kind of creative vital strength, you make a very
- 5:10living force of it. And as all living forces tend
- 5:13towards realization, it will put a pressure upon terrestrial
- 5:17events in order to be able to realize itself sooner.
- 5:22And it is realized only as I said, there are two things.
- 5:27First, as regards desires, personal circumstances 1 is not
- 5:33very persistent or very steady. And after some time, what
- 5:38interested you very strongly doesn't interest you any longer.
- 5:43You think of something else, have another desire and make
- 5:47another formation. But now the first thing one
- 5:50imagined is very well formed, and after following its curve in
- 5:54space it is realized. But by then the person has
- 5:59started another construction because for some reason or
- 6:02other, the thing doesn't interest him anymore and he is
- 6:05face to face with the realization of his first desire
- 6:10while having already embarked upon the second, the 3rd or the
- 6:144th. So he is absolutely annoyed.
- 6:18But why? I don't want this any longer?
- 6:21Why does it come without his being conscious that quite
- 6:25simply, it is the result of a previous deed?
- 6:31If, however, instead of being desires, they are aspirations
- 6:35for spiritual things, and one continues his line with a
- 6:39regular progress, then one is absolutely sure to obtain one
- 6:44day what he has imagined. The day may be slightly far off
- 6:49if there are many obstacles on the path.
- 6:52For example, if the formation that you have made is still very
- 6:56alien to the state of the earth atmosphere, well, it takes some
- 7:00time to prepare the conditions for its advent.
- 7:04But if it is something which has already been realized several
- 7:08times on earth and does not imply too categorical a
- 7:12transformation, you may have it quite quickly, provided that you
- 7:17follow the same line persistently.
- 7:20And if you add to this the ardor of a faith and trust in the
- 7:24divine grace, and that kind of self giving to the grace which
- 7:29makes you expect everything from it, then it can become
- 7:33tremendous. You can see things being
- 7:36realized more and more, and the most surprising ones can be
- 7:40realized one after another. But for this there are
- 7:45conditions to be fulfilled. End Quote.
