- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome and welcome. It
- 0:06Speaker 1: is time now for our community connection. I'm sorry, our
- 0:09Speaker 1: car talk program today and whether the community connected to
- 0:13Speaker 1: the community in more ways than one, that's for sure.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Brad Dungeess is here with us here, you know what
- 0:18Speaker 1: the sunshine's missing. But maybe when with our guests with
- 0:21Speaker 1: sub passion, we'll get it back here.
- 0:23Speaker 2: The rain cleaned off the cars.
- 0:25Speaker 3: There you go, We got them all a little well,
- 0:28Speaker 3: they're dusty still, it's inevitable with rain and in the
- 0:34Speaker 3: springtime in Oklahoma, if it's not pollen, there's a little
- 0:37Speaker 3: dust and then the rain comes and washing some of
- 0:40Speaker 3: it off, but then it drives and there you can
- 0:42Speaker 3: see what it left. I've got And and it is
- 0:46Speaker 3: that time of year for SunFest too, and which is
- 0:49Speaker 3: always it's always a little bit challenging on whether it's
- 0:52Speaker 3: going to be just perfect weather for sun it's that that.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Yeah, every you can expect, you know, hopefully more sunshine though, yeah, I.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Think it looks like the forecast is you know, at
- 1:08Speaker 3: least it won't be raining the whole time, and what
- 1:10Speaker 3: we do get hopefully won't be too severe.
- 1:13Speaker 4: For sure, it's looking better day by day.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So I've got Trey and right here representing the photo
- 1:21Speaker 3: SunFest crew because it always takes an army to put
- 1:25Speaker 3: on something like SunFest.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Oh yes, oh yes, we have I think over one
- 1:29Speaker 5: hundred volunteers and it's all volunteer run, right, but the
- 1:34Speaker 5: Boy Scout Troop six is a big part of it.
- 1:37Speaker 5: We've also got Simply Made helping us this year, and
- 1:42Speaker 5: we're going to have over one hundred and fifty different
- 1:45Speaker 5: vendors in two hundred booth spaces for the marketplace, and
- 1:49Speaker 5: then I think over fifty nonprofits and fifteen or twenty
- 1:53Speaker 5: food trucks this year.
- 1:55Speaker 3: So and entertainment and car show and all kinds of
- 1:59Speaker 3: other things.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I think we're looking at one hundred and ten
- 2:01Speaker 5: cars for the car show, which is awesome. Duke Jefferson
- 2:04Speaker 5: was saying that it's an ever big, ever growing car show. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 5: so last year I think was one hundred and five.
- 2:11Speaker 5: This year we're still adding numbers to it, and so
- 2:14Speaker 5: the car show is going.
- 2:15Speaker 6: To be awesome too.
- 2:16Speaker 2: That's awesome. Well, and tell us the schedule.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Yeah, well, so the hours we start tomorrow at three o'clock,
- 2:24Speaker 4: the park will open and we'll go till about ten
- 2:27Speaker 4: pm Tomorrow, Saturdays ten am to ten pm, and then
- 2:30Speaker 4: Sunday ten am to four So parking's free, admissions free,
- 2:36Speaker 4: just you know, you just have to pay for food,
- 2:38Speaker 4: and you know, the concerts are free too. We've got
- 2:42Speaker 4: a lot of great entertainment. That's what I help out
- 2:45Speaker 4: with this entertainment side. But we're excited to have our
- 2:48Speaker 4: headliner tomorrow night is a guy out of Oklahoma City.
- 2:52Speaker 4: His name is Ross Clayton, and he was on the
- 2:55Speaker 4: Voice on NBC. I don't know if you've ever watched that.
- 2:59Speaker 4: It's kind of like another American Idol kind of thing,
- 3:02Speaker 4: but he was on there about three years ago. Him
- 3:05Speaker 4: and his band are coming up and performing Tomorrow night
- 3:09Speaker 4: for us at eight o'clock on the main stage, so
- 3:11Speaker 4: we invite everyone to come out and see that. And
- 3:14Speaker 4: then Saturday night, our headliner at eight o'clock on the
- 3:17Speaker 4: main stage is a band from here called the Jamie
- 3:21Speaker 4: Morrison Band, so local band from here, so awesome.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Hopefully get a big crowd out there and the clouds
- 3:29Speaker 3: will part.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 5: We've also got some cool churches and different music groups
- 3:37Speaker 5: lined up on Sunday.
- 3:38Speaker 3: No, yeah, yeah, there's something going on on stage right for.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Sure with the main stage, and at Banshell, there's always
- 3:48Speaker 5: something going on.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Banshell. We're gonna have our friends with Okay Mozart tomorrow
- 3:52Speaker 4: night is kicking off their Kids Fest, never bringing in
- 3:55Speaker 4: the Dancing Eagle again, so that's always fun. And then
- 4:00Speaker 4: of course the gymnastics team from here in Bartlesville will
- 4:03Speaker 4: be there at the six thirty.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Show and always have a big crowd for that with
- 4:07Speaker 3: with the families involved, and then I'll sure it's sousing
- 4:11Speaker 3: what those kids can do.
- 4:13Speaker 6: Our youth Fest this year has grown. Our vest is
- 4:17Speaker 6: sponsoring our youth Fest.
- 4:18Speaker 5: We're also so this year we're doing a Glowfest on
- 4:22Speaker 5: Saturday night.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yep, at eight O Cross I think, well eight thirty, yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 4: I think.
- 4:27Speaker 6: What's it kind of is darker.
- 4:29Speaker 5: We've got like glow in the dark paint and bubbles
- 4:31Speaker 5: and all sorts of things, So bring clothes.
- 4:33Speaker 4: To get ruined.
- 4:35Speaker 6: But that's going to be fun.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And then Sunday afternoon we're also having a waterfest with
- 4:40Speaker 5: the bubble machine and water guns, so come prepared to
- 4:45Speaker 5: be soaked, even though it's going to be sunny on Sunday.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember, right, Sunday afternoon looks like to be
- 4:52Speaker 3: warm and perfect for that.
- 4:53Speaker 4: We've already had people asking us, you know, is supposed
- 4:57Speaker 4: to rain, but you're still going to do water.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yes, anybody who's been for a few years they understand this. Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 3: you know, you just take cover if it starts raining
- 5:10Speaker 3: and then come back out because.
- 5:11Speaker 2: They won't rain for long. No, exactly. It looks like
- 5:14Speaker 2: that's what we've got in store for this weekend.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Of course, the park, you know, kind of good at
- 5:21Speaker 3: absorbing that.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Oh yeah, remind us what park it is Sooner Park
- 5:26Speaker 4: on the east side.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So and it's a big park, lots of room to park.
- 5:32Speaker 4: And you said parking's free. You can park in any
- 5:37Speaker 4: of our fields or even back towards Uber.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You can park to schools.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Yeah. I in fact, I would highly recommend, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 4: to fine pavement because you never know in some spots
- 5:50Speaker 4: it could be a little if but you know, just
- 5:52Speaker 4: be prepared.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So awesome, man.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So you mentioned it's a free event, and how long
- 6:00Speaker 3: has it been sometimes been going on?
- 6:02Speaker 4: Wow, it's this is year forty four for it. It
- 6:06Speaker 4: started started in nineteen eighty two, so it's lived this long.
- 6:10Speaker 4: It's one of Artlesville's longest standing events. So it's a
- 6:15Speaker 4: big tradition.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and I mentioned one hundred volunteers, but I know
- 6:21Speaker 3: that you can't do it without all the organizations.
- 6:24Speaker 5: And for sure, we're really thankful for our volunteers given
- 6:28Speaker 5: their time, and our sponsors because we can't throw this
- 6:33Speaker 5: big of a festival without some serious help.
- 6:36Speaker 6: So we've got Truity, We've got.
- 6:38Speaker 5: Arvests helping us DSR, Stride Bank, Safari smiles there.
- 6:43Speaker 6: All of our community is coming together to put this on.
- 6:47Speaker 6: So it does and we're so excited for that.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I also want to say thank you too to Spark
- 6:56Speaker 4: Quhite who came out last night and put the canopy
- 6:58Speaker 4: on the main stage, the cover and the sun logo
- 7:01Speaker 4: that you see.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Uh.
- 7:03Speaker 4: And then also big thanks to Charles Lewis and Troop six.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yes without them, uh, this wouldn't be possible. Charles is
- 7:11Speaker 4: our festival president. This is his fourth year. Uh. He
- 7:15Speaker 4: does a phenomenal job every year. So we're super thankful
- 7:19Speaker 4: that we can be a part of it too.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 5: It really gives the boy Scouts a good opportunity to
- 7:24Speaker 5: show leadership and service.
- 7:26Speaker 6: It's a good opportunity for the youth of our town
- 7:29Speaker 6: to step up and to be.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Servant leaders, which is always what the Boy Scouts is
- 7:36Speaker 5: looking for.
- 7:36Speaker 6: How to raise up young men and women to be servants.
- 7:39Speaker 7: And that's awestraviization in our area here. And they do
- 7:45Speaker 7: great work throughout and you know that then throughout the year,
- 7:48Speaker 7: and this must take a ton of planning to pull out.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yes, when do you start working attainment?
- 7:55Speaker 4: Well, so back in August we started getting you know,
- 7:59Speaker 4: a good ideas. So we meet the first Tuesday of
- 8:02Speaker 4: each month during the year, So, I mean the entertainment
- 8:05Speaker 4: really starts getting going about October.
- 8:08Speaker 8: So I was impressed with the amount of times that
- 8:16Speaker 8: you were able to just spit out and be like
- 8:17Speaker 8: this is this.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot going on. I try to memorize as
- 8:24Speaker 4: much as I can in a short amount of time
- 8:28Speaker 4: to kneel down and then yeah, it's like, okay, I
- 8:31Speaker 4: knew this for months.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Well it becomes a life. I'm sure you've invested it. Yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 3: appreciate all your guys, what you guys do, and thank
- 8:41Speaker 3: you of real lives, yeah do and other responsibility. So
- 8:47Speaker 3: so it takes a lot, and that's a testament to
- 8:49Speaker 3: what goes on in Bartlesville. There's so many great organizations
- 8:53Speaker 3: and events. And you mentioned okay, okay.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, yeah, the kids vest in their festival now too.
- 9:00Speaker 8: Right, it's about to get going and I believe okay,
- 9:04Speaker 8: it starts tomorrow.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Kidfest.
- 9:07Speaker 3: It's also kicking off and yeah no, it's a big
- 9:12Speaker 3: time of year as we get rolling into summer and
- 9:14Speaker 3: baseball is about to start. Done just Toyota Indians. We
- 9:17Speaker 3: get rolling again here this weekend, and you know it's
- 9:22Speaker 3: it's just we're on to summer. School's out and let's
- 9:25Speaker 3: let's have a big summertime. And we've been very busy
- 9:28Speaker 3: at the dealership. People are getting ready for their summer vacations.
- 9:32Speaker 3: We've had a busy time selling lots of a lot
- 9:36Speaker 3: of that's uvs and trucks and things. We've got a
- 9:40Speaker 3: great selection of vehicles on the ground and a lot
- 9:43Speaker 3: more coming. We get an allocation from Toyota every two
- 9:47Speaker 3: weeks and I know people are still like, well where
- 9:51Speaker 3: are all the cars? Sometimes in the Toyota world, that's
- 9:55Speaker 3: the nature of what we do. We've got to we
- 9:57Speaker 3: sell about seventy or eighty percent of what's available in
- 10:01Speaker 3: the pipeline.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Every month and that doesn't leave much on the ground.
- 10:05Speaker 3: We've been growing really fast this year and really are happy.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Thank you to our customers for that.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And you know, a lot of that is a testament
- 10:15Speaker 3: to our great team at the dealership. We have a
- 10:17Speaker 3: wonderful staff throughout the dealership really, but our noncommissioned sales associates,
- 10:23Speaker 3: to those guys and gals, really they'd love to take
- 10:28Speaker 3: care of people, help you buy a car because they're
- 10:31Speaker 3: the way they're paid without being paid a commission, they
- 10:34Speaker 3: get a salary plus some production bonuses and then really
- 10:38Speaker 3: a big part of us reaching our team goals and
- 10:42Speaker 3: so it really kind of changes the you know, the
- 10:46Speaker 3: motivation and really helps them align with our customers. And
- 10:50Speaker 3: you know that goes back at DUNGEUS now almost one
- 10:54Speaker 3: hundred years.
- 10:55Speaker 2: My grandfather and his brother got their.
- 10:58Speaker 3: First dealership in nineteen twenty nine in Tonkaha, Oklahoma, and
- 11:03Speaker 3: my grandfather moved his family to Bartlesville in nineteen forty one.
- 11:07Speaker 3: And you know, so I've been through a lot of change,
- 11:11Speaker 3: a lot of you know, changing the cars, changing our customers,
- 11:15Speaker 3: changing our community, changing the business.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And they're just continuous.
- 11:20Speaker 3: We keep evolving We're really proud to be, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 3: kind of unique in the car business. It wasn't a
- 11:28Speaker 3: unique back in nineteen twenty nine if you think about it,
- 11:30Speaker 3: to be a small family owned dealership and in one
- 11:35Speaker 3: year two communities. But these days, you know, the business
- 11:40Speaker 3: has consolidated a lot. I always think when I drive up,
- 11:43Speaker 3: I'm looking I look over there at the old Boulevard pharmacy,
- 11:47Speaker 3: and how the world has changed. And you know, smaller
- 11:52Speaker 3: and small family owned businesses are they're not they are,
- 11:57Speaker 3: are they? But they're very rare, you know, and you
- 12:01Speaker 3: know it's not that, you know, so our struggle is
- 12:05Speaker 3: to be that, but also be relevant in today's market,
- 12:07Speaker 3: to serve our customers on our community, to not you know,
- 12:12Speaker 3: I know there's some convenience in the big hyperscaling world,
- 12:17Speaker 3: in the mega mega retail environment, and you know, we
- 12:22Speaker 3: just aren't going to have every car in the world.
- 12:24Speaker 2: But really, that's one of the great things about Toyota
- 12:27Speaker 2: is the big guys don't really either. They're selling them
- 12:31Speaker 2: just as fast as we are.
- 12:34Speaker 3: And you know, there that's because we have a great
- 12:38Speaker 3: product and it's certainly better to have a high demand
- 12:42Speaker 3: and low supply than vice versa.
- 12:45Speaker 9: You have a great product, great people, especially with brand's
- 12:48Speaker 9: perspective as in there's can't really go wrong. Most of
- 12:53Speaker 9: the time, we get positively back in terms of our
- 12:57Speaker 9: customer service, and we try like to bread point making
- 13:03Speaker 9: even if you don't see anything on the lot when
- 13:04Speaker 9: you're driving pass that you want, we can obviously help you.
- 13:09Speaker 9: So I think that the the position that this family
- 13:14Speaker 9: owned business has made their mark on this community is
- 13:18Speaker 9: really impressive. And I think that it's not just a transaction.
- 13:22Speaker 9: It's more of a community effort.
- 13:24Speaker 6: It really is. And that's what part of the love.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Yeah, the local community, everyone coming together for something awesome.
- 13:31Speaker 2: That's that's that's so important.
- 13:33Speaker 10: Started that up right, It's a value that we all
- 13:37Speaker 10: have at the dealership. A lot of are my em
- 13:41Speaker 10: the folks that work there started when they you know,
- 13:45Speaker 10: got out of high school.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Or went to Try County and they worked their their
- 13:49Speaker 2: whole lives.
- 13:49Speaker 3: And you know, we have families that have bought cars
- 13:53Speaker 3: generation after generation and then you know, and we continue
- 13:56Speaker 3: to support the community.
- 13:58Speaker 2: You know, really probably thousands of organizations through the years and.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Things like SunFest and we used to come out to
- 14:06Speaker 3: the car show.
- 14:08Speaker 2: You yeah, and we would.
- 14:12Speaker 3: You know, it's not and things change and we get
- 14:16Speaker 3: distracted and stuff, but it always comes back to the
- 14:20Speaker 3: same stuff. A great community that pulls together makes events
- 14:24Speaker 3: like SunFest come off every year, and you know, it
- 14:28Speaker 3: has a lot of the great you know, the unique
- 14:34Speaker 3: thing about one of them about Bartlesville is all the
- 14:36Speaker 3: great organizations and how we support our youth in Bartlesville
- 14:41Speaker 3: and how there's always a place for them to connect
- 14:44Speaker 3: and whatever they're interested in, there's like a thing.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And you know SunFest is like that.
- 14:51Speaker 3: You guys were talking about the boy Scouts, the youth
- 14:54Speaker 3: Fest and how it.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Gives very faly oriented.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It gives the youth town a chance to shine, to
- 15:01Speaker 3: get on stage and do their gymnastics, and even.
- 15:06Speaker 6: On the vendor side.
- 15:07Speaker 5: We even have some young entrepreneurs coming in Cherokee Cat
- 15:12Speaker 5: Hippie has been there for several years. We've also got
- 15:15Speaker 5: incredible probably coming this year, and we have a group
- 15:18Speaker 5: from the high.
- 15:18Speaker 6: School that'll be doing a chess club.
- 15:23Speaker 5: We've got different nonprofits where they're setting up band fundraisers
- 15:27Speaker 5: for their trip. So there's lots of opportunities for young
- 15:32Speaker 5: aspiring people to show what they can do and that's awesome, awesome.
- 15:37Speaker 4: You know, since we're talking about youth stuff, I just
- 15:42Speaker 4: remember I didn't want to forget this. But we are
- 15:44Speaker 4: doing a open mic event on Saturday at two o'clock
- 15:48Speaker 4: on the main stage. So anyone that's listening right now
- 15:51Speaker 4: who's sixteen and up, you can find that sign up
- 15:55Speaker 4: on our Facebook page. David Belez with Party Time Karaoke
- 15:59Speaker 4: is head and that up with us, and so he's
- 16:02Speaker 4: going to be out there too, I believe from ten
- 16:04Speaker 4: am to noon for sign ups at the stage two.
- 16:06Speaker 4: But no, young singer songwriter, this is your opportunity.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Chance, so work up to getting on your voice.
- 16:16Speaker 5: The word worked with me and as the high schooler,
- 16:19Speaker 5: we've published a few books in the past.
- 16:20Speaker 6: You can read some of your poetry, guys company.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Yeah, poetry awesome, that's.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That's really exciting. Yeah, and you mention you're a.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Teacher at the Yeah, I teach mostly ninth grade English,
- 16:34Speaker 5: but also some tenth grade this year. So and we've
- 16:37Speaker 5: the past two years we've actually published student made anthologies
- 16:42Speaker 5: with their short stories and their poetry. And it's on
- 16:45Speaker 5: Amazon like people can buy that for them. But I'm
- 16:49Speaker 5: really big into making sure the youth have a voice,
- 16:52Speaker 5: making sure that they know what they can do, that
- 16:55Speaker 5: they can rise up and be the next generation.
- 16:58Speaker 6: So that's awesome.
- 17:00Speaker 2: As an English major in college, and a lot of
- 17:02Speaker 2: the people that informed Brad or English teachers.
- 17:06Speaker 3: My grandmother was an English teacher, my wife was an
- 17:09Speaker 3: English teacher, and a lot of so it's do I
- 17:14Speaker 3: respect that a lot of It's.
- 17:16Speaker 2: A it's a great thing.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I think learning the English language and being you know,
- 17:22Speaker 3: able to to read and comprehend and write and think
- 17:27Speaker 3: and feel and you know, write write poems.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Or a short story is you know, a unique. Uh,
- 17:34Speaker 2: it's so unique.
- 17:35Speaker 3: But it's an important skill to communicate right and to
- 17:39Speaker 3: be able to to to communicate ideas and concepts. I know,
- 17:44Speaker 3: I you know, I don't use I mean I do
- 17:46Speaker 3: use English every day and running a business, I'm you know,
- 17:49Speaker 3: I do a lot of thinking and organizing ideas and
- 17:53Speaker 3: communicating them to people right. And it's you know, so
- 17:56Speaker 3: it does transcend. And a lot of times it's hard
- 18:00Speaker 3: to realize that when you're sitting there in class.
- 18:03Speaker 7: And you're you're, you know, doing commas.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I'm trying to think. I like to say that you
- 18:10Speaker 2: get it.
- 18:12Speaker 6: I get it absolutely so.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It's great and it's important to give them that outlet,
- 18:16Speaker 3: like the books you guys.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Are publishing that take it way beyond commas.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Right, And that's another thing I love about SunFest is
- 18:24Speaker 5: there is something for everyone. Because sure, maybe you're not
- 18:27Speaker 5: into commas and poetry and open mic maybe that's terrifying,
- 18:32Speaker 5: but there's other things. There's vendors with all sorts of
- 18:37Speaker 5: different focuses and different people too.
- 18:44Speaker 6: There we've got everything. We've got freeze dride snacks and goodies.
- 18:50Speaker 5: We've got twisted drums is coming back, hands unlimited.
- 18:54Speaker 6: We've got different herbal things.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Three D prints, T shirts, hats, jewelry, Native American stuff
