- 0:14Welcome to Arguing Ever After episode 2.
- 0:20My name is Luke and this is my lovely wife Amber.
- 0:23Hello, we are the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:26The count and Countess of contention.
- 0:28The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:30And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:33We have been together since high school and we've been married
- 0:36for over 20 years. We've argued about practically
- 0:40everything and yet we're still together and happy.
- 0:43We have a great teenager who currently doesn't think we're
- 0:45lame, and most of our family still talks to us.
- 0:49All in all, pretty darn good. Every day, all over the world,
- 0:53couples are fighting battles based on mole hills that don't
- 0:55matter and sometimes mountains that send spouses to go sleep on
- 0:59couches. In this entertainment only
- 1:01podcast, we'll bicker about all things big and small, and the
- 1:05audience gets the final say on who the winner is.
- 1:09We do not claim to be relationship experts by any
- 1:12means, but if we can have meaningless arguments for the
- 1:15sake of friendly competition, why not give it a listen?
- 1:19We will debate lots of topics, some of which we've come up
- 1:22with, and many are frequently submitted by our listeners.
- 1:24So if you have a topic and want us non professionals to cross
- 1:27swords on it for a preview of how it could go down before you
- 1:30bring it up in your own relationship, please send it to
- 1:33us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 1:37Perhaps this completely unscientific method of letting
- 1:40the masses decide who is right can settle your fight too before
- 1:44you even have it. So the other day I came home and
- 1:52I saw that Luke was watching something odd on TV and I looked
- 2:02and I to make sure was our daughter in the room.
- 2:06She's not. And I said, Luke, are you
- 2:11watching cartoons? Yeah.
- 2:15And I said hell yeah, This was a great video game because I was
- 2:19watching ATV show that just came out on Netflix that was based on
- 2:22a video game that I really liked to play when I used to play lots
- 2:26of video games. And I thought it was totally
- 2:29normal and totally fine. Well, it kind of got me thinking
- 2:34about like back when I watched cartoons and which was a little
- 2:41bit ago maybe, and it kind of got me reminiscing about some of
- 2:47my favorite cartoons when I was a kid.
- 2:49I remember my first favorite cartoon when I was a kid was a
- 2:52show called # puppies. I even had a little stuffed #
- 2:56puppy animal and I. Had the tent.
- 2:58I don't know if any of you remember the tent, I don't even
- 3:00know how I got it, but I had the tent.
- 3:02I remember the tent, the first sleepover friend sleepover I had
- 3:05as a kid. She had a tent and I was so
- 3:07jealous. So I'm still a little jealous of
- 3:10you today that you had the pound puppy tent.
- 3:13I mean, knowing my mom, it's still in her house.
- 3:16But that used to be the thing when we were kids, like when we
- 3:19you'd get up Saturday morning and watch cartoons, we had like
- 3:227 channels only. So you had to be there on time
- 3:26to watch those cartoons. Yeah, unless someone in your
- 3:29family was a wizard who could figure out how to record Avhs.
- 3:33If you had AVHS, yeah, there's, there's that whole thing too.
- 3:36And it was kind of like a, a great babysitting tool, if you
- 3:40think about it. Parents knew where their kids
- 3:43were from, you know, whatever, 98 to probably 11:00.
- 3:48I don't even know what my parents were doing that at that
- 3:50time. We think they might have run
- 3:52errands. We don't.
- 3:53We don't really go. Yeah, because I don't know.
- 3:56I don't know. Either I Remember Me and my
- 3:58brothers watching cartoons, which I feel like everybody was
- 4:01doing. Yeah, maybe the parents all had
- 4:03like a secret Saturday morning party.
- 4:04They just hang out with each other.
- 4:07Could be. That's possible.
- 4:09Well, I also remember fighting with my sisters because there
- 4:11were always a couple cartoons that would have different
- 4:13timing. And again, this is before the
- 4:16really recording age, you know, So you had to be there for it.
- 4:21And it was just really brilliant.
- 4:24And I feel like they knew that was brilliant.
- 4:27I'm sure they did. I feel like.
- 4:29I don't remember which cartoons were on like which channels.
- 4:32Well, I remember some of that, but I mean, I'm not like you had
- 4:36lots of great ones in the mornings on Saturdays, but like
- 4:40do you think that like the powers that be utilized that
- 4:46great babysitting tool for us latchkey kids because.
- 4:53It checks out. I think when we were kids, like
- 4:57during the summer, it was just pure madness.
- 5:01We were running everywhere. We were gone all day, you know,
- 5:04I mean, like it. It's not uncommon to hear kids
- 5:07talk about I was home by the time the street lights were on
- 5:09and whatever I did from the time I woke up to when I got home, it
- 5:13was kid wars and things like that.
- 5:15Did all sorts of things during the summer rock.
- 5:17Fights. Sure.
- 5:19I mean, I didn't have a rock fight.
- 5:20That sounds really dangerous it. Was only situation, maybe my
- 5:25brothers just like to throw rocks at me.
- 5:28Sound like that could have happened.
- 5:30We also played cops and robbers. Yes, we rode bikes.
- 5:35Yes, yes, I mean, and the the TV in the summer was terrible.
- 5:39It still kind of is today, I'm not gonna lie.
- 5:41Thankfully, we're summer. TV is not that great but there's
- 5:44a lot more than 7 channels. There's a lot more than 7
- 5:47channels. No, that's true.
- 5:48That's true. But I'm, I'm thinking though,
- 5:51like maybe this is the conspiracy theorist in me.
- 5:55Maybe like the education system, our parents and the
- 6:03entertainment giants, right? They got together and they said
- 6:07how can we get kids home after school so they actually get
- 6:10sleep and are rested for the next day and that they stay
- 6:13home. And then they created the best
- 6:17cartoon lineup that they could have created for sure.
- 6:21And it had older siblings coming home to watch their younger
- 6:26siblings, who were for sure going to turn on the TV to watch
- 6:29what? For sure.
- 6:30We were watching all kinds of stuff.
- 6:31We were watching DuckTales. Awesome show we.
- 6:35Were watching Darkwing duck. Pretty good, pretty good we.
- 6:39Were watching. Rescue races were my favorite.
- 6:44I was going to say the rescuers. No.
- 6:45Maybe it was just a different. Yeah, thing, but yeah, that one.
- 6:49Wait, is that the one that had Chip and Dale?
- 6:52Yes. Rescue Rangers.
- 6:53That's it with the jingles they. Were solving the mystery.
- 6:56Chip and Dale, Yeah, yeah, but wasn't there one?
- 7:00Gadget or Gidget? She was great.
- 7:01She was the best part. What's her name?
- 7:02Gidget or gid I think it was. Gidget.
- 7:05I think it might have been Gidget, I don't know.
- 7:07And Monterey. Jack was his friend.
- 7:08What was the one that had Baloo and he flew a plane?
- 7:12Tailspin. That was one of them that was on
- 7:15Gargoyles was one of my all time favorites.
- 7:18You know, and I heard they might be making it into a movie or
- 7:21something. Sign me up, I'm ready for front
- 7:23row clipping in coach. Yeah, yeah, it never.
- 7:27I've never wanted something so much as a gargoyle on top of my
- 7:30house. And even still today I would
- 7:32love. I actually we have some little
- 7:35gargoyle less things that I've put out in my yard, but they
- 7:38don't turn into well, you're the, you know, night saving what
- 7:42saving the night of. And transform into live
- 7:44creatures, unfortunately. Really depressing, yeah.
- 7:47And have cool names named after New York.
- 7:50Yeah, yeah. I mean, they could be named
- 7:52after our local. There was.
- 7:53Brooklyn Hudson. Bronx.
- 7:55Bronx for. Some reason Goliath, that's not
- 7:59from New York, but he was the leader, so.
- 8:01I mean and big. And big.
- 8:03And then what was the girl's name?
- 8:05I don't, I don't know. I feel bad for not remembering
- 8:10it, but she had. She had Goliath figured out.
- 8:13Pretty. Was it?
- 8:15I'm not gonna remember. I've been thinking of April from
- 8:17Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Well, it wasn't her Teenage
- 8:21Mutant Ninja Turtles. That was a great one.
- 8:23Also Batman. How about Batman?
- 8:25Batman. Batman.
- 8:27Oh, Crusader, come. On I don't know there were.
- 8:32His parents died in an alley. I mean, do you have a better
- 8:36start than that? There's a ton better start and
- 8:39then parents. Turned all of his riches into
- 8:42real fancy toys and weapons to to beat up the bad guy to be.
- 8:47Alone. Well, he had a troubled past, as
- 8:50we just said. Yeah, OK, well, parents dying in
- 8:53an alley would probably be pretty bad.
- 8:54Don't get me wrong. Pretty bad.
- 8:56I don't understand a lot of the makeups and I know if I ask too
- 9:00many questions we will upset many viewers all.
- 9:04Three of them already at. We're at least at 10.
- 9:07I know, I know. It's so exciting.
- 9:08I did want to say thank you all for tuning into our first
- 9:11episode, and I'm so happy. If you're turning into the
- 9:14second one, if you haven't watched the first one, you
- 9:16should go back and watch the first one.
- 9:18Yeah, because we love the streams.
- 9:20But but so I again, I don't want to upset anybody about Batman
- 9:24because I know there's very, very strong opinions about the
- 9:29the superheroes. But it was just sort of amazing,
- 9:33though, like when you would go to school the next day when at
- 9:37our age, you know, everybody was talking about duck tales.
- 9:40Did you see the episode Magic and Duck magic, Dispel Spell
- 9:44Spell. Oh, she was great.
- 9:46I want name. Can we just for a second,
- 9:49whoever came up with what's her name going to be Magica Dispel?
- 9:53And they were like, yes. She was phenomenal.
- 9:55I really wanted to be like her. But you had a voice too.
- 9:59She sounded like she smoked 400,000.
- 10:01I mean, no, she sounded and there was a wickedness in her
- 10:07voice all the time. You think that's you OK?
- 10:09Yes, yes, it's me. I'm gonna call you Magica from
- 10:12now. It's a.
- 10:13Great nickname. I've been told that I have a
- 10:17wicked laugh sometimes so and I don't mind it, but like
- 10:21everybody was talking about it. All the kids knew about it.
- 10:24There was like, that is what you did until, you know, video game
- 10:29video games came out. But there were so many good
- 10:32cartoons of like forever. I mean, I think about other
- 10:35cartoons that I watched, you know, that just were on forever,
- 10:38like the Flintstones on forever. They made vitamins about them,
- 10:41you know, I mean, that's true. And Fruity Pebbles.
- 10:43That's some reach. Yeah.
- 10:45You think about it, They had a cartoon that somehow turned into
- 10:47vitamins. Vitamins, like, literally, this
- 10:49is how you know your child is healthy.
- 10:51You're feeding them Flintstone vitamins.
- 10:53Yeah, you know, and you had the Jepsons, which kind of turned
- 10:55out to be a bummer because I think by now we should be flying
- 10:58cars. Where are the flying cars?
- 10:59You know we have. Importantly, I want a robot.
- 11:03Yeah. All of my chores.
- 11:05Yes. All of them, even if she's got
- 11:07an attitude and does it wrong. So we also do have a I'm ready,
- 11:10a robot who vacuums. We named her Rosie, which was a
- 11:14mistake because she did actually turn out to be just like Rosie
- 11:18with the attitudes. I'm not working today, you know,
- 11:21it's it's not my day on, you know, and it's just like, who
- 11:24are you? You're supposed to not be this
- 11:26SO life hack #2 Don't name your vacuum robot if you're fortunate
- 11:33enough to get one. Don't name her Rosie, because
- 11:35she will. Not she'll turn on you.
- 11:37Not work hard, but it's OK, it's OK.
- 11:44So so that was a great one. Of course, the classics, you
- 11:48know, that were really huge. Also that came.
- 11:50It had a big come back while we were in middle school, or at
- 11:53least while I was in middle school or sometime in my life.
- 11:56There we go. Was the Warner Brothers with
- 11:58Bumps Bunny, and then they did this whole other relaunch with
- 12:02the Looney Tunes something something and dot wacko dako and
- 12:07dot or yacko wacko and dot something.
- 12:11I think it was. I think it was yacko, wacko and
- 12:13dot. Yes, yes.
- 12:14And pinky in the brain, which we're always trying to take over
- 12:18the world. Who made the Wile E Coyote and
- 12:24and? Just Warner Brothers.
- 12:25Was that Road Runners? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:28And then you got the Hanna Barbera that that whole era when
- 12:31you had like the, there was like a the purple gorilla.
- 12:34I don't know, it was like a grape ape.
- 12:36I feel like it might have been called Grape Ape.
- 12:38Wasn't that a food? Maybe.
- 12:41I don't know this car. Maybe there was some crossover
- 12:43and there was like Yogi Bear. Yes, and a picnic basket.
- 12:49That's right. Yeah, Rocky and Bullwinkle.
- 12:51No great great great villains in that one.
- 12:55How? About The Smurfs.
- 12:57Oh, The Smurfs. Oh, Gargamel or Gargomesh or.
- 13:01Gilgamesh Oh, that's a real, that's a real start.
- 13:04I think it was Gargamel. Gargamel Yeah, yeah.
- 13:07And the cat. And what was the cat's name?
- 13:10I wanted to eat The Smurfs all the time.
- 13:12It started with the EI, can't remember.
- 13:14Azrael. Azrael.
- 13:16Yes. Yes.
- 13:17Years ago I worked at a veterinary clinic and a cat that
- 13:20came in was named Azrael. And the second she brought that
- 13:24cat in, I was like, I see you. Yeah, I know you.
- 13:28We are. Y'all supposed to ain't Smurfs?
- 13:33Yeah? Can you blame her though?
- 13:35They're like little bite size things.
- 13:36She probably was like, oh look, it's a blue mouse, I'm going to
- 13:38eat it. I know no one remembers this
- 13:40except for maybe my sister is one of our three listeners, 10
- 13:44to. 12 Something like that. But there was this really
- 13:48delicious thing that came from The Smurfs called Smurf Berry
- 13:50Cereal, and I've been searching for my whole life.
- 13:53I mean, we maybe got that box twice, but the back to food with
- 13:58me. Oh my God, I'm a major.
- 14:00A lot of our life is about. Food.
- 14:01It is true. It is true.
- 14:02My mom was a a mean mean woman about cereal cuz she wouldn't
- 14:07let us have colored sugary stuff.
- 14:09We just had to eat kicks. Wait, no, is that the one that
- 14:13was the little corn puff? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:15That was it. Kicks.
- 14:17Have you put enough sugar on them?
- 14:18They were OK. Was that tricks?
- 14:19No tricks was the fruit. Oh, we couldn't have that one.
- 14:22Tricks was the fruit. Well, that was the cool thing
- 14:23too, right? So all those cereal companies
- 14:27would link up with the cartoon companies or some of them you.
- 14:31Could have an episode about cereal.
- 14:32Well, go. We will.
- 14:34We will I. Thought about a whole bunch of
- 14:35different cereals. But save what, like the good
- 14:38ones would put in a prize that is frequently from one of the
- 14:42cartoons that we were watching. So it was like, really?
- 14:45They did a cereal. I our kid has had plenty of
- 14:48cereal. She won't get no prize.
- 14:49She does it, She does it. Maybe it's only McDonald's does
- 14:52that anymore. Oh, that would be sad.
- 14:54Well, McDonald's. We don't need any free stuff,
- 14:57but if you want to, like, feed the homeless, that'll be, you
- 15:01know, Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:02No endorsement necessary. Thank you for the French fries
- 15:06in the 90s. They were delicious.
- 15:07We're moving on. We're here to talk about
- 15:09cartoons. Look, I got you derailed.
- 15:13You really did. You really did.
- 15:17But like the just all of the the intertwineness of those cartoons
- 15:23and how they really did find a way to hit us every like the
- 15:27marketing was. Brilliant.
- 15:29It was like a whole, like a culture shift.
- 15:32Yeah, yeah. And so.
- 15:33But back to my original. Did our parents have cartoons?
- 15:36I don't think they. Yes they did.
- 15:37They have Woody Woodpecker and stuff.
- 15:38Like, Oh yeah, I remember. My, that was my dad's favorite
- 15:41was Woody Woodpecker, which I was like, this dude just hits
- 15:44his head on a tree and just and I'm sorry.
- 15:47Those birds in real life are gigantic though.
- 15:50There's different sizes, yeah. The pilliated redhead
- 15:53woodpecker. Whatever it is, real big
- 15:56woodpeckers. I've got into a backyard.
- 15:59They have it recently because we have a bird feeder.
- 16:02So but we won't, we won't go to that.
- 16:04But yes, they're, they're huge. I saw a couple, but you know,
- 16:07that was, it was OK. It wasn't as good as like the
- 16:10deep plots of the cartoons that we've had.
- 16:13I mean. And they could string something
- 16:14on for a number of episodes because back in the day, like
- 16:17unlike now, it seems like I don't know so much about
- 16:20cartoons, but like popular shows are like 6 to 10 episodes is
- 16:24like a whole season. And like, cartoons back in the
- 16:26day would just be like, I don't know, 30 episodes last the whole
- 16:31like six months of the year. You'd have cartoons to watch.
- 16:35Yep, and there. You have like a Part 2, Part 3
- 16:38conclusion. Uh huh.
- 16:39If you missed one, that was. That was the thing why you got
- 16:42to get home. Because if you missed 1, you
- 16:44missed a major part of the plot. And then you had to have your
- 16:46friends tell you and it's just not the same.
- 16:48Or you'd have to wait for reruns like in the summer and you
- 16:52didn't know. I mean, have these things.
- 16:54This is for children's educational purposes, right
- 16:57here, right now. Anyone who's over will know.
- 17:00Educating the young. Educating the.
- 17:01Young right now. So they had these things back in
- 17:04the day. There were two places you could
- 17:05find out what was on TV. One was the newspaper, which was
- 17:10a piece of paper that would go to your house and it would tell
- 17:13you all of the news for the day or the week.
- 17:17Kind of like a newsreel that exists online, so it'd be listed
- 17:21in there, or you'd have something called a TV Guide if
- 17:24you were lucky, and that had like the whole week's worth.
- 17:28Didn't they sell those for like money?
- 17:29Yes, they sold them from. Actual money go to the gas
- 17:32station to buy ATV. Yes, yes.
- 17:35But it would, it would tell you the whole week's worth of TV.
- 17:37So you could plan everything. But you know, I don't recall if
- 17:41they really talked about the reruns.
- 17:43So like what was? Definitely making me feel old,
- 17:45right? Now, well, again, educational
- 17:47purposes for historical knowledge for these young UNS
- 17:51who may or may not be listening they're.
- 17:54Probably not. You know what if you flip this
- 17:58on for them, then when their teachers ask them what they
- 18:01learned over the summer, this could be one of those things
- 18:03they. Learned something from us, yes.
- 18:06CB guides cartoons serial. Put it on my resume educating
- 18:10the young. Yes, why not?
- 18:11Why not? I mean, and, and like the great
- 18:14things that we have that they just don't have any more, you
- 18:17know, but but cartoons were just really something back then.
- 18:22They were really, they shaped so much of who we are.
- 18:28So, Luke, let me ask you a question.
- 18:34Now the event you have all been waiting for.
- 18:39In this corner we have Amber claiming to weigh in at 135 lbs
- 18:44with one win and 0 losses. We are in episode 2 after all.
- 18:48She has over 25 years of practice in the art of
- 18:51insignificant lover spats and is armed with her amazing wit which
- 18:54she will need today. And in this corner, we have Luke
- 18:59at his prime weight of 185 plus and sporting a luxurious red
- 19:05beard. He's been arguing since he was
- 19:08born to a very competitive family, that's true.
- 19:10And he has zero wins and one loss.
- 19:15So Luke, tell us today, what do you really think is the greatest
- 19:21cartoon of all times? Oh, I guarantee you, everyone
- 19:26that just heard you say like kind of the same reaction that I
- 19:30did. All time, all time.
- 19:33There you go, happy. For two reasons.
- 19:35One, for all times, but two, the real truth is everyone goes, why
- 19:40do you got to make me pick the best thing, the best?
- 19:42Anytime someone says that to me, they're like, what's your
- 19:44favorite song? What's your favorite?
- 19:46It's like, what? How do you pick one?
- 19:48It's not even fair. But that being said, to be a
- 19:52contender for the best cartoon of all time or times, it's got
- 19:58to be a pretty big deal. So staying power would be
- 20:03something to think about, reach, reach would be something to
- 20:07think about, and influence would be something to think about.
- 20:10Because there's been a nearly endless list.
- 20:13Like can we just name some of the ones we remembered off the
- 20:15top of our head from being kids? And I'm sure all of you out
- 20:17there that are watching this, depending on when you grew up
- 20:20and what was on and whatever, you got a whole different list.
- 20:23Like our kids got shows that make no sense to me that she
- 20:26watched all these series and episodes and like some of them
- 20:29were great and some of them, you know, I'd watch with her and be
- 20:32like, what are we doing? This is anyway.
- 20:36That was when we used the TV as a babysitter.
- 20:39That's true. We had our moment.
- 20:40It was like, you know, I don't know what to do.
- 20:42Why don't you watch 75 hours of this Netflix special about elves
- 20:46and Dragons and cats and whatever else?
- 20:49Anyway, so back to the question. So the best cartoon of all time
- 20:57that I would like to have be my contender is The Simpsons
- 21:03because it has all the things I talked about.
- 21:07It has staying power. It's been on since I think we
- 21:12said it was the 90s, but it was right on the edge because we
- 21:16talked about this a little bit earlier, like it came out.
- 21:19What did you say of Tracey Ullman Show?
- 21:21Tracey Ullman, Yes. OK.
- 21:23And then it turned into its own thing, like I think in the
- 21:24beginning of 1990. So that's a long, long time ago
- 21:28because it's 2025. So that's some staying power.
- 21:33It has, according to the Internet, the most amount of
- 21:38episodes of any cartoon ever. And then what I think is like
- 21:43important to reflect on with The Simpsons is they did something
- 21:47that hadn't really been done with cartoons before because
- 21:51like cartoons, as you talked about, and the ones we enjoyed
- 21:53so much as children were like, they were like, they had their
- 21:58like themes, but they were cartoonish themes.
- 22:02The Simpsons came through and basically turned a sitcom into a
- 22:08cartoon and kept it cartoony and also sitcommy.
- 22:11So it like blended a couple of genres, which I think is why it
- 22:14was so successful back then and it's still successful today.
- 22:18And like a lot of the things that made it successful was like
- 22:21there was controversy there would like, you know, the the
- 22:25the mom and the dad would get into arguments and, you know, it
- 22:28was they weren't the prettiest family.
- 22:30And, you know, like the dad was bald.
- 22:32And I mean, I got a little bit of that going up.
- 22:34And he had a beer belly. And he like, you know, I don't
- 22:37know, he sat on the couch a lot. And anyway, so that was
- 22:41controversial. Then they had the miscreant
- 22:43child. You know, everyone loved him.
- 22:44It was America's favorite little boy, Bart Simpson.
- 22:47American favorite. Like he would say stuff that was
- 22:50like off off the cuff or whatever, and he would get in
- 22:54trouble and go to detention and have to write stuff on the
- 22:57board. And so it wasn't perfect.
- 23:00That's part of what I think made it attractive because it was
- 23:02like they were showing you the average sort of sample of the
- 23:06American family and made into something that little kids would
- 23:09want to watch and that their parents, if they watched it
- 23:12wouldn't be like, this is some stupid kids.
- 23:14He showed. They'd be like, this is actually
- 23:16kind of funny. Oh, my parents didn't feel that
- 23:18way. Well, your.
- 23:19Parents were a little different. Than my my parents did not
- 23:21necessarily like that as a watching as a watching choice
- 23:24for. Us but I think it's staying
- 23:26power would say that that's one of the reasons it's still around
- 23:29today running basically the same thing like it's been around
- 23:33since 1990, so 35 years and they haven't aged today so so you
- 23:40know like there's a reason that that's still famous and like how
- 23:42many times can you retell the same story now they introduced a
- 23:46lot of a lot of side stories they had Mr. Burns, they had
- 23:50Krusty the clown they had. Killed Mr. Burns.
- 23:53They had, I had the murderous with the Sideshow Bob.
- 23:59They had that dude, I mean, and then they had the prodigy child
- 24:03and they had the baby who never. Was the a sweetheart of the
- 24:07show? Which was the best?
- 24:09No question. And then they had the baby who
- 24:12never sadly figured out how to talk.
- 24:15They had. Yes, she.
- 24:16Did when she did I can show you later there was she?
- 24:20Aged a day, it's amazing. So and then they had the dog
- 24:24that at least got replaced a couple of times.
- 24:26Because if Santos will. Help her like 1-2 and three.
- 24:29No, no snowball. That could be, yeah.
- 24:32They also had, I don't know how many actually, cuz at some point
- 24:35I lost track and stopped watching it.
- 24:37But like they had, I don't know, two or three movies that came
- 24:41out of the deal. And then like they have some
- 24:44like physical intellectual property integrations at
- 24:47Universal Studios, at least in Florida.
- 24:50I don't know if there are other parks have it, but they had like
- 24:52a little Simpsons Land and we've been there and they have like
- 24:54rides and they have. Terrible ride.
- 24:57Oh my God, that's an awful ride. It's like you've been on the
- 25:00crusty the Crown ride. You have definitely felt your
- 25:03stomach into your freaking forehead.
- 25:05It's I kind of. Liked it.
- 25:06It was kind of fun and they had like, you can get the Donuts and
- 25:09stuff and like the Duff Beer and like all of that stuff is there.
- 25:13It's to say that The Simpsons isn't the best is is tough.
- 25:18They had a lot of stuff and they've been doing it for a long
- 25:21time. You got to look OK.
- 25:26So while I will agree, obviously I have watched The Simpsons,
- 25:32there's many good things about The Simpsons, but all of those
- 25:35things, what'd you say? It needed staying power.
- 25:38Staying power, reach, influence. And influence, sure, I think was
- 25:44the there's something that's been on a little bit longer and
- 25:52you know, your Simpsons might have won if it wasn't for those
- 25:59pesky kids. Oh.
- 26:02Scooby-doo and the Mystery Machine.
- 26:06Oh my gosh, like when that show, when I first saw that show, it
- 26:10developed me as a human being. It.
- 26:13Created so many things that I wanted in the future.
- 26:16scooby-doo, this giant dog. I love giant dogs.
- 26:19I want a scooby-doo. Like the snacking and how they
- 26:22could just eat all these great foods.
- 26:23I wanted to eat all those great foods.
- 26:25I kind of snack like scooby-doo and Shaggy sometimes.
- 26:28And the relationship, the bond that the boy had with his dog,
- 26:33like we saw the bond between Bart and Santa's Little Helper.
- 26:38It was not that great. Scooby went everywhere.
- 26:41Shaggy understood what Scooby was saying, so much so that we
- 26:47as viewers understood. Rock.
- 26:50Roll right, I mean and we. Understood, right?
- 26:54I know, but we understood everything he said through
- 26:56shaggy eyes. And not just Shaggy, you, Fred,
- 27:01Velma and Daphne all knew what he was saying too.
- 27:04So I mean and they had a van. I don't know.
- 27:06The murder van is not really thing but it kind of works.
- 27:09In their theme it was. An anti murder van.
- 27:11I know it was a Mystery Machine, I get that.
- 27:14I mean, but it was painted really cool.
- 27:16The Simpsons car was just some sort of sedan that was maybe
- 27:19yellow, I can't or pink, I can't really remember.
- 27:21It doesn't really like it wasn't it wasn't memorable.
- 27:23It wasn't memorable for sure. It was, it was a wagon and
- 27:26everybody had a wagon back in those days.
- 27:28Mystery Machine was so memorable and every episode they taught us
- 27:34important things about life. The main thing that they taught
- 27:38me as a young child, which I bring with me today, is you
- 27:43don't really know anyone. Whoa.
- 27:47Think about it, you'd watch the whole episode and you'd have the
- 27:50principal try and help them figure out who the ghost is.
- 27:53And then Velma would be like, and here's your ghost, RIP the
- 27:57mask off. It's Principal Skinner.
- 28:01See just y'all listeners, I'm just saying maybe chalk that one
- 28:05up over here, but keep going. Slight point, slight point, but
- 28:08you know, I mean, so it taught you that not everybody is worth
- 28:11your trust. It taught you keep those that
- 28:13mattered really close, but be a little suspicious of those you
- 28:18don't really know. And we see this all the time.
- 28:21You never know. And for me personally, it
- 28:24developed into a longer interest of mysteries, right?
- 28:28Like I remember not that, you know, once I passed that cartoon
- 28:33stage watching things like Unsolved Mysteries and just
- 28:38hoping that I would find my Principal Skinner or whoever,
- 28:41you know, like just maybe I could find and I could solve the
- 28:44mystery just like the mystery gang.
- 28:46Like, wouldn't that be awesome, you know?
- 28:49So I'm going to say I was not motivated, which I think is the
- 28:54final factor of being a best cartoon by really anything in
- 28:59The Simpsons. Oh I see.
- 29:03I will say this, having listened to you lay out your argument, it
- 29:07is impressive how informative to your character that show was
- 29:11because you basically are an adult trying to live in that
- 29:14reality. Yes.
- 29:15Like. Yes, we're not trusting
- 29:17everyone. We still definitely want to
- 29:19catch the bad guy. Yes, and you got to keep your
- 29:21friends close, eat a lot of snacks and love your dog.
- 29:24Love your. Dog, that is quite true.
- 29:27I mean, The Simpsons were never really a model for how to live.
- 29:32I mean Mike Schwartzman. As a show, again, I think their
- 29:37their reach was more about like, like it was more about you could
- 29:44see yourself in them. Yes.
- 29:48Because they were more real. And then The Simpsons, unlike
- 29:52Scooby-doo, introduced a bunch of characters that were fun,
- 29:57little adjacent to the story. Like you had the principal who
- 30:00was always a little questionable.
- 30:02You had the bus driver who was maybe never sober.
- 30:05Never. You had well Speaking of sober,
- 30:07I'm just saying Scooby and Shaggy.
- 30:09I mean they were doing y'all know what I'm talking?
- 30:11About wasn't doing anything eating Scooby snacks.
- 30:13Those Scooby snacks were laced anyway.
- 30:17And then they had the the the groundskeeper.
- 30:19That creepy Scottish dude. Scotland, by the way, I'm
- 30:23Scottish, love the Scottish and they had the what was the
- 30:28teacher that kerbopple, which is spelled crabapple, the one that
- 30:33always gave birth to detention with the that was smart too.
- 30:35How they would in every episode they'd have him write I will not
- 30:40draw on the desk or whatever. They'd pick a different thing
- 30:44that he did wrong every. Time and it was funny.
- 30:45Plus the intro. Oh yeah, mine was.
- 30:48Thank you. And then like they also at the
- 30:52beginning of every episode, they changed it up a little bit when
- 30:55he, you know, he's coming up the driveway and Bart skips off the
- 30:58thing with the skateboard. And then they somehow all land
- 31:01on the couch. And sometimes they're in
- 31:02different positions or they're aliens or whatever.
- 31:05That was some of the invention and ingenuity of The Simpsons,
- 31:08as they were always like, they had similar themes, but they
- 31:11were always bringing in something new and just going to
- 31:14touch on the spooky factor one time.
- 31:16You can't give them credit for nothing without saying they
- 31:20didn't invent the Halloween special.
- 31:23Whoa, I'm just saying. Whoa.
- 31:25The special. They had their own, but they
- 31:28didn't invent it. That was so before The Simpsons.
- 31:31This was a huge thing. And there's still my favorite
- 31:34episode of any type of sitcom. It's a good Halloween special.
- 31:39Admin In the cartoon world, we're talking about cartoons.
- 31:42Treehouse of Terry. They have like a monopoly on who
- 31:45wins the Halloween special in the cartoon world.
- 31:48Everyone's done something on a cartoon.
- 31:51For. Special.
- 31:52Well, OK. For Halloween, I hear what
- 31:54you're saying, except for it was Halloween every day.
- 31:57Of course you do. There was always someone in a
- 32:00mask pretending to be something scary.
- 32:04That's true. That's true.
- 32:07Oh, and I don't want to give you no points but Scrappy.
- 32:12Yeah, Scrappy was. I mean, I shouldn't.
- 32:13Have never got his own TV show but it was cute though there was
- 32:16a little. Do you remember?
- 32:18I just, I just remembered scooby-doo also had a spin off
- 32:21so that of scooby-doo scooby-doo kids Scooby scooby-doo Doo.
- 32:27It was a great little show where they were like kids solving the
- 32:31mystery. Like little versions of the same
- 32:34people. It was great.
- 32:36I don't get it. Well, you'd have to watch it
- 32:38together. And they were already sort of
- 32:39kids. No, they were like, they were
- 32:41cool. They were like, you know, in
- 32:43high school or college or something.
- 32:44It'll be some good, not college. Not college, they were clearly
- 32:48not. They were, I don't know, they
- 32:49were trying to find their way in life.
- 32:51You know they created their own company.
- 32:53Maybe they were dropouts. You don't even know that I don't
- 32:55know. I'm sure they explained it on an
- 32:56episode. They might have.
- 32:57They probably weren't dropouts. But like, if you look at the
- 32:59women also role models, right, Role models for US women,
- 33:03because you had Velma, she was just brilliant, super smart.
- 33:08Lisa, keep going. Go ahead.
- 33:11Velma could out anything mentally with Lisa.
- 33:16She also had the years to help except for when she was in the
- 33:19the the Young scooby-doo cartoon.
- 33:23They probably were at about the same time, but still jinky.
- 33:25She's definitely got it. And then you have Daphne, who
- 33:30although we would be blinded by her beauty, she was actually
- 33:35also really smart. So I think that it was just
- 33:41overall, it had good morals, good things to push and teach
- 33:47people. And I think you can even still
- 33:51see new episodes today. That could be slightly wrong,
- 33:55but there's definitely always something that can come at some.
- 33:57Point we did stop watching cartoons unless it was me
- 33:59watching a cartoon about just the other day.
- 34:02Just the other day and also you like that other cartoon that's
- 34:05like a Star Wars E cartoon, but I could.
- 34:10Well, there have been some great Star Wars.
- 34:11Cartoons, so there. You.
- 34:12I'm not hating on cartoons. Clearly, the world isn't either.
- 34:16Right there they are a mainstay. So you know, I guess, I guess
- 34:22that's, that's our fight. And I think the best thing to do
- 34:26is to vote for the best cartoon of all times, which there is no
- 34:31mystery about. Oh, that was cute.
- 34:34Scooby-doo. Or you could vote for The
- 34:38Simpsons, which has the most episodes, it has the most
- 34:45relatability to the most number of people.
- 34:52And who doesn't love Bart, Lisa, Homer.
- 34:57And you can't forget the woman who held it all together, March.
- 35:02She was just handling her business.
- 35:04So go ahead, vote, y'all. I think it's simple and I think
- 35:08it's easy and you know it is. OK so the best way to vote is
- 35:16through our Spotify link. We're going to put up a poll.
- 35:20I don't know, our last one was for like 2 weeks but I think
- 35:22that might be too long. But vote regardless and watch it
- 35:28through Spotify or whatever, however you find it, I don't
- 35:31care. Just freaking watch it,
- 35:32subscribe, like it, download it, and please share this with your
- 35:38friends, your family. Your children.
- 35:41Your children. Did we swear?
- 35:43I think we swore a couple of times, but again, I don't think
- 35:45we got too inappropriate. I mean, if they watch The
- 35:47Simpsons for 35 years, someone swearing.
- 35:49Absolutely. Don't tell me your parents
- 35:51watching this episode ain't swearing in front of your kids
- 35:53At this point, I'm just saying. Yeah, I do think though.
- 35:56Oh, so so sorry back to what I was saying about how how we can
- 35:59get the word out about us right. So you can also share to people
- 36:04you don't like. If you didn't like this episode,
- 36:06share to everyone you just. Want everyone to watch it?
- 36:09Yeah, it would be really great. We've been, like I said, really
- 36:12kind of surprised. I thought three people would
- 36:15watch and we've had more than that.
- 36:18We've had quite a bit of interest so.
- 36:19Potentially hundreds. We don't even know.
- 36:21Who could be? We have no way of knowing that
- 36:23information, but share it. We love it and we will always
- 36:27use new topic ideas. If you think this one, I'm going
- 36:31to do a pun for you. All is a little crusty.
- 36:34Oh my God, this is what I live with people.
- 36:41OK, hold on, you're cut off We're done.
- 36:44If you have any other ideas, just e-mail them to
- 36:48arguingeverafter@gmail.com. Thanks.
- 36:54Bye. I just want to do my own thing.
- 37:00I just want to do my own thing. I just want to do my own thing.
