- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, it's Alex Garrett. One lug Up Alex and we
- 0:06Speaker 1: are in twenty twenty six, which means one lug Up
- 0:09Speaker 1: Alex in twenty twenty six. Tune in. We've just published
- 0:12Speaker 1: over fifteen hundred episodes in twelve years, with more TOICOM.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Thanks to you out there listening One ling Up Alex
- 0:19Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. Well on one lug Up Alex Sports.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I see who was in I believe New York City today?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Heights Mendoza himself, Fernando Mendoza. Lou, where was my invite
- 0:31Speaker 1: to that? I wanted to meet Fernando? I want to
- 0:33Speaker 1: meet Husbandoza. Where's my invite, Luz Minelo Alex.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm shocked. I thought you would have a picture with
- 0:38Speaker 2: him by now right.
- 0:39Speaker 1: He just wanted two days ago and yesterday. But hey,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you know me, I'll find them somewhere some ways, so
- 0:46Speaker 1: there is no.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Doubt in my mind that you will send me a
- 0:48Speaker 2: picture with Unfortunately, it looks like, Oh, Las Vegas ready
- 0:53Speaker 2: to quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I do want to start there because this kid, beyond
- 0:59Speaker 1: the athletics, he's got such an indomitable spirit, like I
- 1:05Speaker 1: think I called him jovial the other day, and I
- 1:08Speaker 1: do believe that, and I don't want the Raiders to
- 1:12Speaker 1: ruin that like that's I'm worried they're gonna dampen his
- 1:15Speaker 1: spirits because of how crap they've been run. Maybe Tom
- 1:19Speaker 1: Brady turns around, though.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Well again, they are a franchise with iconic history, so
- 1:26Speaker 2: it's not like he's going to the Jacksonville Jaguars or
- 1:29Speaker 2: the Caroline the Panthers. But right now the Radars are
- 1:33Speaker 2: in toll disarray. I mean, he looked like Pete Carroll
- 1:37Speaker 2: would straighten them out. He didn't, and they got rid
- 1:40Speaker 2: of him after one year. So but Mendoz is the
- 1:42Speaker 2: real deal. What he did on Monday night, he kind
- 1:45Speaker 2: of willed them to victory. You know, he didn't have
- 1:49Speaker 2: one of his great great offensive nights, but that fourth down,
- 1:53Speaker 2: fifteen yard run and Alex, I'm sitting here watching the
- 1:56Speaker 2: game saying, you got to keep the field goal, he
- 1:58Speaker 2: got to get the three points, go up six, but
- 2:02Speaker 2: they roll the dice and it looked like the kid
- 2:04Speaker 2: wasn't gonna get into the end zone that those last
- 2:06Speaker 2: three yards, but he willed himself in the end zone.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And don't kid yourself. That kind of effort, especially when
- 2:18Speaker 2: it comes from the leader of your team, just resonates
- 2:22Speaker 2: throughout the rest of the roster, throughout the rest of
- 2:24Speaker 2: the game.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Oh, I think his energy resident throughout the whole game.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I mean, especially right down to that interception to seal
- 2:29Speaker 1: it for Indiana by Sharp How cool was that? And
- 2:32Speaker 1: by that kids in Miami native as well.
- 2:34Speaker 3: So yeah, and actually when back through that ball, I
- 2:40Speaker 3: thought he was gonna he was going to hit that
- 2:42Speaker 3: completion and if he did, it probably would have been
- 2:46Speaker 3: a touchdown which put Miami ahead.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But I'm so happy for Indiana. I mean, they did
- 2:51Speaker 2: a great job. Now again, they took advantage of the
- 2:54Speaker 2: new era of college football. Forty seven of their players
- 3:00Speaker 2: twenty ages of twenty two and twenty five.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Well, did you see, I did not know Fernando was
- 3:04Speaker 1: actually from Cal. You know, it came out of the Cal.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But apparently the guy who hit him pretty hard in
- 3:11Speaker 1: the game when he was at Cal, he ran right
- 3:13Speaker 1: past him for the touchdown at against Miami. So that's
- 3:16Speaker 1: pretty interesting.
- 3:17Speaker 2: That is interesting. I actually I didn't know that.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, TikTok telling me a lot of different facts about
- 3:22Speaker 1: this kid, and I love his energy. I really I
- 3:25Speaker 1: love his energy and his spirit. And you know one
- 3:27Speaker 1: other thing about them him, it's very interesting, how connected.
- 3:32Speaker 1: And you've heard this on my other podcast. He did
- 3:35Speaker 1: something in the college level. Brady could not do any
- 3:37Speaker 1: the NFL level, which I find really interesting that the
- 3:40Speaker 1: guy's about to draft him a seven time super bowler,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but he's got one up on him.
- 3:44Speaker 2: He did undefeated season.
- 3:45Speaker 1: How cool is that?
- 3:48Speaker 2: That is cool? That is cool, and it looks like
- 3:52Speaker 2: Brady's gonna really have a lot of it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: But that was the college level. That's why I'm so
- 3:56Speaker 1: excited for his NFL potential. That was at the college level.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean sixteen and oh the last team
- 4:04Speaker 2: to do it was the eighteen ninety four Yale Bulldog.
- 4:07Speaker 1: This we're sixteen and oh well, I don't know the
- 4:11Speaker 1: last time a Heisman winner actually went on and led
- 4:14Speaker 1: his team to the to the title. I don't know.
- 4:17Speaker 1: That's daddy, though maybe you might know that one.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Well didn't Tibo did? He won it? When he won it?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Row mister Tibo as as Fernando said, mister Tibo, which
- 4:31Speaker 1: I thought was awesome too.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Barrow did in twenty nineteen, so only two quarterbacks have
- 4:42Speaker 2: won a national championship and won a Super Bowl. Joe
- 4:46Speaker 2: Name and Joe Montana. Well, Mendoz would be the third.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It looked like Joe Burrow was going to do it. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 2: a couple of years ago. We came within ninety seconds,
- 4:59Speaker 2: but uh, the Bengals couldn't hold on.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So and they were saying this. But by the way,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I gotta give Kirk Kurbstreet a lot of credit for
- 5:07Speaker 1: all this exact and he did this whole season. He
- 5:09Speaker 1: went from college football today, you know, the college game day,
- 5:14Speaker 1: to the doing the game, and then he'd fly out
- 5:17Speaker 1: do every Thursday night game and he did the playoff
- 5:19Speaker 1: game a couple of weeks ago with al Michaels. Guy
- 5:22Speaker 1: was everywhere this.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Year, Louis, He's everywhere. And you know, some people try
- 5:28Speaker 2: to nitpick his work on Thursday night football. His work
- 5:32Speaker 2: on Thursday Night football is perfect. He lets the game breathe,
- 5:36Speaker 2: he doesn't talk too much. And even al Michaels, who
- 5:39Speaker 2: people say, you know, it's past his prime. Okay, the
- 5:41Speaker 2: guy is eighty one years old. But I'm telling you
- 5:44Speaker 2: this is just my opinion. He's still. He's still. I'm
- 5:49Speaker 2: not gonna say at the top of his game. He's
- 5:51Speaker 2: still pretty good.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And of course we missed league of course, so not
- 5:55Speaker 1: being there for this year's college game day, but I guess,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know, Kirk and him are very close for a head.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Coach at the University of Indiana Louis Courso.
- 6:05Speaker 1: That's right, that's right, So it'll be good. Look, this
- 6:08Speaker 1: is not just a revitalization of the football program. This
- 6:11Speaker 1: brings back and it's interesting happened almost you know, in
- 6:15Speaker 1: the same year Gene Hackman past, because he put Hoosiers
- 6:18Speaker 1: on the map with that movie. There's no doubt about.
- 6:20Speaker 2: He's no question, You're right.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And so I would say this puts him on the map,
- 6:25Speaker 1: not just for football, but I think for all sports.
- 6:28Speaker 1: There's gonna be a bigger eye on Bloomington, which, by
- 6:30Speaker 1: the way I looked this up. Louis is not a
- 6:33Speaker 1: small town. Eighty thousand people is not a small town.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Actually it's not. I've been. I was there once, but
- 6:40Speaker 2: obviously it was for it was to see the football program.
- 6:46Speaker 2: It's obviously a basketball program. That was the I was
- 6:49Speaker 2: there just one time. Uh. Yeah, it's it's you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: it's not you know, it's a college town. But it's
- 6:55Speaker 2: not a small college town. Eight thousand people, Like you said,
- 6:58Speaker 2: a lot of.
- 6:58Speaker 1: People now doither this kid is gonna get like the
- 7:02Speaker 1: media tour. I feel like you get that on a
- 7:04Speaker 1: super Bowl, but it's expanded, you get the you get
- 7:06Speaker 1: the media tour, even after winning a national championship like
- 7:09Speaker 1: he did.
- 7:09Speaker 2: No, he will. Now, he might turn down some things
- 7:14Speaker 2: because that's the type of guy he is. He might
- 7:16Speaker 2: not take everything he.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Has one time for a girlfriend, he said the other day.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Girlfriends are distracted. Girls are distracting. I want to focus on.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I actually I actually read that story this morning, and
- 7:28Speaker 2: he's focusing on what's gonna be a big challenge. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: he's not getting drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, you know,
- 7:35Speaker 2: a super Bowl contender, even though they make the playoffs. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 2: he's getting he's getting drafted by a team in all likelihood,
- 7:43Speaker 2: hopefully they find somebody else that they like. It's not
- 7:46Speaker 2: a quarterback and drop Mendoz the number two. That would be.
- 7:50Speaker 2: That would be like a godsend for the Green and White.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But good things don't happen to them. But uh, yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 2: you know he's got he's got to concentrate on learning
- 8:00Speaker 2: how to play the NFL game, and I think he'll
- 8:04Speaker 2: do a great job. I'm so impressed with the guy.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Natural leader.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Uh and he actually overcame what uh not a hit
- 8:11Speaker 1: to the face, but his lip was bleeding and all that.
- 8:14Speaker 2: And yeah, that was Alex. That was a cheap in
- 8:17Speaker 2: my opinion, that was a cheap shot. That was a
- 8:20Speaker 2: dirty shot. How how all those striped shirts could miss
- 8:26Speaker 2: that is beyond my comprehension. He got hit, laid out
- 8:29Speaker 2: of bounds. There was at least three personal fouls on him.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Now I'm not saying that the that the officials were
- 8:36Speaker 2: favoring Miami. They just blew him, But that first one,
- 8:40Speaker 2: how could you blow that call? Everybody saw it. That
- 8:44Speaker 2: was that was unsportsumate like conduct targeting nowadays, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: we blow on the guy and uh they throw a
- 8:52Speaker 2: flag and he got racked, but you got key came
- 8:56Speaker 2: through it and uh, you know he was the MVP
- 9:00Speaker 2: again and uh, he's gotta be on cloud nine. Man. Great, great,
- 9:07Speaker 2: he's a great kid. I loved I would love to
- 9:11Speaker 2: see him where number fifteen in green and white, but
- 9:14Speaker 2: that's not gonna happen.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So well, you know what we could you could see
- 9:18Speaker 1: a surprise and the Raiders draft down. But I don't
- 9:22Speaker 1: think that's gonna happen either.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think so either, because there are no
- 9:25Speaker 2: quarterbacks in this draft. I shouldn't say or no, that's
- 9:28Speaker 2: not right. There are no slam dunk quarterbacks in this
- 9:32Speaker 2: draft besides him, and uh, they're not gonna They're not
- 9:39Speaker 2: gonna pass him up. I mean, some of these defensive
- 9:41Speaker 2: players are are amazing better in the draft, but I
- 9:45Speaker 2: just don't think in a league where quarterback play is
- 9:49Speaker 2: so tough to find that that the Vegas Raiders are
- 9:55Speaker 2: going to not pass them up. Are not going to
- 9:57Speaker 2: take him and pass him up for somebody else. Just
- 10:00Speaker 2: can't see it.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Now, let's say they do draft him, does that mean
- 10:03Speaker 1: he sits behind Gino. I kind of like the formula
- 10:06Speaker 1: where these guys are sitting and learning from these guys
- 10:08Speaker 1: that are veterans, then taking the place of them. You know,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I like that formula.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Two Well, I actually I actually agree with you. And
- 10:16Speaker 2: you know, throwing these guys in day one sometimes really
- 10:20Speaker 2: hurts them. And I'm not saying that. You know, you
- 10:22Speaker 2: don't make himself the whole year, but make him watch
- 10:26Speaker 2: maybe put him in game six if Gino Smith, who
- 10:28Speaker 2: they still have for another two years unless they cut him.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You know Falters, let's face, he's going to be the
- 10:36Speaker 2: Las Vegas Raiders quarterback at some point. I just went
- 10:40Speaker 2: and saw him on opening day. But again, we don't
- 10:43Speaker 2: even know who the coach of the Raiders is yet.
- 10:48Speaker 1: No, there's a lot of open spaces there, but we'll
- 10:51Speaker 1: see them get filled now. You mentioned about throwing them
- 10:55Speaker 1: in there, and I wanted to start with my dad's
- 10:57Speaker 1: bears because it's his birthday week this week, and you know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you saw the value of QB on Sunday night. Caleb
- 11:05Speaker 1: made that really I thought one mistake, but it was
- 11:07Speaker 1: a great matchup between the two of them. Stafford versus Caleb.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He can match up with the good, the great ones.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I could say that now I feel like you can.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Well, the thing is, he just has to get and
- 11:17Speaker 2: we've talked about this before. He's got great talent, he's
- 11:20Speaker 2: a great athlete. Uh, he just needs to become more consistent.
- 11:25Speaker 2: He missed a lot of open receivers and then he
- 11:28Speaker 2: makes that hillacious throw to Cole to the end.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So when he whether they Caleb or something like that.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So but I think he's in the right situation, Alex.
- 11:39Speaker 2: He's with an offensive coach in Ben Johnson. I think
- 11:43Speaker 2: now the bet Now, the Bears had a big jump
- 11:45Speaker 2: this year and a lot of things went their way.
- 11:48Speaker 4: But I think the Bears if Caleb Williams stays healthy,
- 11:54Speaker 4: I think you want to see him improved as a
- 11:57Speaker 4: quarterback next year.
- 11:59Speaker 2: His accuracy, he still needs to be better. I mean,
- 12:01Speaker 2: he completed fifty eight percent of his passes last year.
- 12:04Speaker 2: That has to that has to improve in today's NFL.
- 12:07Speaker 2: When I saw watching football, if you complete fifty eight
- 12:09Speaker 2: percent of your passes, they would put you in the
- 12:12Speaker 2: Hall of Fame while you were still playing. That's how
- 12:16Speaker 2: the game has changed. But you know, the Bears did
- 12:20Speaker 2: a Hey did any Bear fans thought they were gonna
- 12:23Speaker 2: be twelve and five and uh didn't.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Won a playoff game but the first time in fifteen
- 12:28Speaker 1: years against the Packers, and I thought, well, Green Bay
- 12:32Speaker 1: always seems to have their number, but not this time
- 12:34Speaker 1: in the playoffs. So it was a nice change of pace.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Rams and see it. Look, I'll be quite frank. Except
- 12:42Speaker 1: for Drake may I don't know the appeal of this
- 12:44Speaker 1: whole rest of the season, I postseason. I just the
- 12:49Speaker 1: Seahawks are rams. That's an NFC West thing, that's not
- 12:51Speaker 1: really a New York thing we deal with. And then
- 12:54Speaker 1: the you know, the Broncos down in a bow Nicks.
- 12:57Speaker 1: This should be Drake May's Super Bowl. To lose, well,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know what I mean to get to and then
- 13:01Speaker 1: maybe win. I feel like it's his time.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Well, I mean, here's a guy in the second year
- 13:06Speaker 2: and he didn't start in his first year until the
- 13:09Speaker 2: middle of the season. Obviously, the Patriots, okay, you know,
- 13:18Speaker 2: are the favorite on Sunday, even though they're playing in Denver.
- 13:23Speaker 2: A lot of things have gone to Patriots way. And
- 13:25Speaker 2: I believe I read the other day that since the
- 13:28Speaker 2: merger in nineteen seventy and that's really the beginning of
- 13:31Speaker 2: the new era of football the merger, maybe want to
- 13:35Speaker 2: go back to nineteen sixty, but anything really before that
- 13:38Speaker 2: is okay. But the Patriots since the merger, which was
- 13:43Speaker 2: nineteen seventy to today, had played the tenth easiest schedule
- 13:48Speaker 2: in the NFL. They got a breaking game, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 2: in the first game against the Chargers, who played according
- 13:58Speaker 2: to analytics, they played Charger team beat up injury offensive
- 14:03Speaker 2: line the fifth or sixth analytically driven offensive line. Uh
- 14:11Speaker 2: in the history of NFL playoff teams, so a lot
- 14:13Speaker 2: of things have gone their way. I think they gotta
- 14:17Speaker 2: be careful on Sunday. I don't think beating Denver, even
- 14:20Speaker 2: with bow Nicks out and Jared Stidham in in the game,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I'm sure it's gonna be a heavy dose of of
- 14:26Speaker 2: run and play action passes, a trick play or two
- 14:30Speaker 2: at the right time. Uh. The Denver d especially at
- 14:35Speaker 2: front seven, might be able to of course, all kinds
- 14:39Speaker 2: of havoc with the Patriots offensive line, which is a
- 14:42Speaker 2: little shaky. But Ken kenned kenne Broncos win on Sunday.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you know why because they have a big and
- 14:50Speaker 1: I know he had the scandal with New Orleans, but
- 14:52Speaker 1: they have a really damn good coaching.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, no doubt about it.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And actually, and you know, Rabel's had his struggles as coach,
- 15:00Speaker 1: but I mean he's improved with Drake May this year
- 15:03Speaker 1: for sure, you know. And I should take it back.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I think people will be interested on Sunday in the
- 15:08Speaker 1: Rams Syhawks. He because I'm a Matt Stafford guy. I've
- 15:11Speaker 1: always liked Matt Stafford. I always thought that trade would
- 15:14Speaker 1: Detroit benefited both sides, unlike other trades.
- 15:17Speaker 2: It did. It was an unusual trade that both sides
- 15:20Speaker 2: benefited from.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But but the Sam Darnold story is fascinating to the
- 15:26Speaker 1: New Yorkers who saw him struggle here. I mean, there's
- 15:28Speaker 1: no doubt that we want to see him succeed, at
- 15:31Speaker 1: least I think I do too, don't you.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean I don't think I think the
- 15:37Speaker 2: Jets treated him, and I don't mean by by me
- 15:39Speaker 2: treated him. I don't think that they abused him anyway.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But I mean, as he should have started his first game,
- 15:47Speaker 2: he should have watched for five or six or seven games. Again,
- 15:50Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes didn't play at all his first year until
- 15:53Speaker 2: the last game of the season when the Chiefs had
- 15:55Speaker 2: everything clinched and they arrested Steve Smith. So it's it's
- 16:00Speaker 2: no sin in sitting down for a while. He had
- 16:04Speaker 2: he had absolutely no players, He had no receivers, and
- 16:12Speaker 2: and then the Jets decided to cut loose and drafted Zach,
- 16:15Speaker 2: which was a huge mistake drafting Zach Wilson. Uh, and
- 16:18Speaker 2: then he saw him right away, which was a mistake.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So again the difference between success and failure sometimes is
- 16:26Speaker 2: when you get drafted by And also.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It would be it would be kind of cool to
- 16:31Speaker 1: see this guy who was now match Tom Brady with
- 16:33Speaker 1: fourteen plus win seasons say f you to both teams
- 16:37Speaker 1: gave up on him, and I actually take the seahawksup Bowl.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I kind of liked that revenge story he seems to
- 16:42Speaker 1: be going on because look, he should have been all
- 16:44Speaker 1: intends and purposes of Viking. Okay, we we sayed over
- 16:49Speaker 1: and over, but that was his team. He took that
- 16:50Speaker 1: team and brought to another level and they let him go.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So I hope he gives them an FU two because
- 16:56Speaker 1: he no, because you're right, yeah, it's up to see them.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Let him let go, you know, let let go of
- 17:02Speaker 1: him like that. But it's been fun to watch him
- 17:06Speaker 1: in Seattle. I don't know. And I said to you,
- 17:08Speaker 1: does Kylechian have a job situation here? And You're like no,
- 17:14Speaker 1: And I'm like, but they got beat up. I didn't
- 17:16Speaker 1: expect the Seahawks to beat them up that much.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Well, they had, they had no roster left. Alex Kyle
- 17:22Speaker 2: Shanahan is the best coach probably in an entire national
- 17:25Speaker 2: football League. I mean, I would how would he broken
- 17:29Speaker 2: glass for him to be the coach of my New
- 17:32Speaker 2: York Jets. He's the best coach in football right now.
- 17:36Speaker 2: He's better than Horrbor, He's better than Tomlin. He's right
- 17:39Speaker 2: there with McVeigh. Uh. He'd made chicken salad out of
- 17:43Speaker 2: chicken crap even to get that far. That's my analyzation.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Although the way he had, I mean I remember when
- 17:49Speaker 1: he first started, he had Garoppolo and it just I
- 17:52Speaker 1: think he had Smith's end of the year Area two.
- 17:54Speaker 1: But you know, he's really turned it around with Brock Purty.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It's been amazing to watch Brock Perry, who we knew.
- 18:01Speaker 1: We never knew about it until he had to take
- 18:02Speaker 1: over for I think injured Garubb below and then he
- 18:05Speaker 1: became a star. Look at that. So well, we'll have
- 18:09Speaker 1: to see what the Niners do. But the Seahawks domination
- 18:12Speaker 1: was a surprise. Can we I think we'd safely save
- 18:15Speaker 1: that all year long? Yeah?
- 18:18Speaker 2: No, I mean obviously they were a new quarterback. You
- 18:22Speaker 2: never know what's gonna happen. Even though we had a
- 18:24Speaker 2: big gear with the Vikings last year when Donald came
- 18:26Speaker 2: into Seattle. Different situation, but he picked up right where
- 18:28Speaker 2: we uh, you know, where we left off. Their defense
- 18:31Speaker 2: is awesome and I could be wrong. I will be
- 18:36Speaker 2: rooting for Seattle. Well, I should say I will be
- 18:41Speaker 2: favoring Seattle. I only rooted for one team, and it's
- 18:44Speaker 2: not the Seattle Seahawks, but Alex I have. I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 2: if you're gonna make me, and you know I hate
- 18:50Speaker 2: to pick games, but if you're gonna make me pick one,
- 18:53Speaker 2: I would lean towards the Los Angeles Rams.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Well because the Rams have this energy about him McVeigh.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And by the way, how interesting is gonna be Cooper
- 19:05Speaker 1: Cup versus old team in the NFC title game?
- 19:07Speaker 2: So that's very.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Interesting as well. That's very It's very interesting on Sunday.
- 19:12Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I'm I'm a New Yorker, so I'm
- 19:14Speaker 1: not supposed to say this, and I thought about this today.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm starting to feel like I'm picking player over team.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And I want to see Drake May do something his
- 19:23Speaker 1: second year. I saw potential him last year. I wouldn't
- 19:26Speaker 1: mind seeing him win the Super Bowl. And I'm not
- 19:27Speaker 1: supposed to say that because I'm in New Yorker. But player,
- 19:31Speaker 1: aside from the team, he's a great player, and I
- 19:33Speaker 1: think i'd like to see him complete that incredible turnaround
- 19:36Speaker 1: on the Patriots.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Sure, sure, no, I understand, And remember Alex, when you know,
- 19:42Speaker 2: just because we live here, that doesn't mean we have
- 19:45Speaker 2: to we get we and we always give our our
- 19:49Speaker 2: realistic opinions. And I agree with you about Drake May.
- 19:53Speaker 2: It would be cool if he finishes the job.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It would almost be like the Mendoza turnaround of Indiana,
- 19:59Speaker 1: if I'm honest.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but again, but again, you know, don't feel sorry
- 20:03Speaker 2: for the Patriots. I mean, they had two crappy years
- 20:05Speaker 2: after you know, twenty great ones. So it's not like
- 20:09Speaker 2: the Patriots were in the crapper like Indiana was for
- 20:12Speaker 2: the last seventy years.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's in the peril of the two of them.
- 20:18Speaker 1: So we'll have to see what happens this this this weekend.
- 20:21Speaker 1: All right, let's get to what happened yesterday, two days
- 20:25Speaker 1: ago already. Geez, Thursday, Harbaugh Rockstar Entrance, Rockstar press conference.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And I love that he started off saying, we are
- 20:34Speaker 1: the New York Football Giants. I am proud to be
- 20:37Speaker 1: head coach of the New York Football Giants. Maybe that
- 20:40Speaker 1: that brings a serious tone to the conversation. Now by
- 20:42Speaker 1: adding football, I know Steve Summers to.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Take the truth. Considering the baseball Giants left when I
- 20:48Speaker 2: was four years old, which is sixty eight years ago.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I don't know why they're still being called the New
- 20:52Speaker 2: York Football Giants since we since there's no baseball team
- 20:55Speaker 2: in New York, but that's their corporate name. And I
- 21:02Speaker 2: thought Harbor was magnificent in that press conference. I really
- 21:06Speaker 2: did as I told you. I thought that the entire process,
- 21:11Speaker 2: which was un giant like, they handled it. They handled
- 21:16Speaker 2: it perfectly.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Now, Michael, Michael Rubin and Fanatics, if you're listening out
- 21:20Speaker 1: there and you want to go to Eli's Mediterranean, we
- 21:22Speaker 1: can make a deal and do a podcast for Fanatics
- 21:25Speaker 1: Terminella's take on with Fanatics. How come would that be?
- 21:28Speaker 1: Let's get an.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I'm only an hour away from fifty five minutes away
- 21:34Speaker 2: from that restaurant. I'd be there in a heartbeat, So
- 21:38Speaker 2: let's get it. Let's do it. But Harbor was magnificent.
- 21:44Speaker 2: But the thing is this was this was the first
- 21:48Speaker 2: time in my lifetime the New York Giants, excuse me,
- 21:52Speaker 2: the New York Football Giants hired thet An Alpha male
- 21:57Speaker 2: as coach. When I hired Parcels, he was an unknown.
- 22:01Speaker 2: He wasn't an alpha male. He became one when he
- 22:04Speaker 2: became coach of the Patriots or the Jets and and
- 22:07Speaker 2: the Cowboys. And you saw right away, I don't care
- 22:12Speaker 2: what the organizational chart says. He is running the.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Entire Four coaches already were not even into January. At
- 22:24Speaker 1: the end of the week, he just fired four coaches.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Right, so you know he's he's running the show.
- 22:32Speaker 1: But that's what And I know people are gonna say
- 22:34Speaker 1: Dable mismanaged, dark, but I also know he wasn't the
- 22:38Speaker 1: kind of fire anybody. I think that was one of
- 22:39Speaker 1: the issues they probably had with him. You could have
- 22:42Speaker 1: fired Shane Bowen after that Denver debacle and he didn't
- 22:45Speaker 1: like Come on, man, and I like Dable the first year.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Then it just wore off on me.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Well the thing. The thing is Alex you know Harbor.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I think yesday fired some guy who was these not
- 23:00Speaker 2: some guy the assistant general manager.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And I can't the senior VPT of operation. Yeah, since
- 23:06Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine. I love it, though you need change.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Kevin Abrams, that's his name, just puffed into
- 23:12Speaker 2: my head. Yeah, but you need absolutely, you know you
- 23:16Speaker 2: need change. But again it shows you how uh. I
- 23:24Speaker 2: don't want to say double standard, but.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Maybe maybe maybe this is a test. Maybe I'll see
- 23:30Speaker 1: if shame, if he doesn't like the way they drafted,
- 23:33Speaker 1: maybe he'll get Shane fired after well, d with Alex.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Alex Shane is not Shane is just going to be
- 23:40Speaker 2: a complimentary situation with the draft. He's gonna make his
- 23:44Speaker 2: voice heard. The guy who's gonna the guy who's gonna
- 23:46Speaker 2: pick the player that he wants, It's gonna be John Hobbor.
- 23:49Speaker 2: John Hobbor is pointing directly to John mara. Now, I'm
- 23:53Speaker 2: gonna say something else. This is a why as a
- 23:55Speaker 2: pro giant, they kissed the giants ass all the time.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Media hypocritical. Now everybody criticizes whatdy Johnson because the coach
- 24:05Speaker 2: reports directly of whatrdy Johnson. But now, for the first
- 24:08Speaker 2: time ever, the coach is reporting the direct directly. John
- 24:12Speaker 2: marra I gets that's okay. And oh, by the way,
- 24:16Speaker 2: when when John Harbower was in Baltimore for those eighteen
- 24:20Speaker 2: years and won one hundred and ninety three games, an
- 24:23Speaker 2: amazing total, he reported directly to the owner, Steve Piscatti.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So I then trashes him out as he's out the door.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I don't really understand that one, but.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Well, again, he he's the owner. But my point is
- 24:39Speaker 2: he reported directly to the owner. But when the coach
- 24:43Speaker 2: reports directly to the owner of the Woody Johnson, Woody
- 24:45Speaker 2: Johnson's a piece of crap. So that's I just had
- 24:48Speaker 2: to I had to throw it out in there.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Uh, your daily dose, your weekly dose of jets.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm just I'm just being realistic. That's all.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Just betching is what I call it.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Again. I I think I'm as realistic and as non
- 25:04Speaker 2: bias on the show as possible. But when I see something,
- 25:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna say something. I guess he fired the Giants trainer.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I haven't I the long time Giants trainer Ronnie Bonds,
- 25:15Speaker 2: or they're gonna shift them into a different position.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's like an usher looks them away.
- 25:20Speaker 1: The usher will be fired before the end of the game.
- 25:22Speaker 2: But again, Alex, the only thing that matters if the
- 25:27Speaker 2: next year the Giants are ten and seven, and a
- 25:29Speaker 2: year after that they were in the NFC Championship Game
- 25:33Speaker 2: or Super Bowl. That's the only thing that matters. It's
- 25:36Speaker 2: the end result.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this, because remember when I
- 25:39Speaker 1: saw Patino struggling his first year, and I'm like, uh oh, Louis,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and You're like, give it time. Could we see a
- 25:45Speaker 1: struggle situation here in the first year and then all
- 25:48Speaker 1: of a sudden that second to whatever many years.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yes you could, I would say, yes, Yes, that's possible.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Mm. So I mean cause I know a lot of
- 25:56Speaker 1: pressers are gonna be a lot of burgers on him already.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I mean, he came in here almost like Friendo is
- 26:00Speaker 1: gonna be going into Raider and you know, uh, Las
- 26:03Speaker 1: Vegas as like a savior almost. So it's gonna be
- 26:08Speaker 1: very interesting to see how the media handles him, uh
- 26:11Speaker 1: after the first few weeks. I'm waking for the first
- 26:12Speaker 1: few weeks of the season to see how they react
- 26:16Speaker 1: to it. I'm very curious actually, so we'll have to see.
- 26:19Speaker 1: You know, the Jets did not make any moves as
- 26:24Speaker 1: far as firing any coaches, really have they I haven't
- 26:27Speaker 1: seen any moves made around Aaron Glenn yet.
- 26:29Speaker 2: No. And you know what, I think we might have
- 26:31Speaker 2: mentioned this last week, and I'll mention it again. It's
- 26:34Speaker 2: gonna be hard for if the Jets want to uh
- 26:39Speaker 2: bring in some new coaches, get ripped some old ones,
- 26:42Speaker 2: let's face it. And I'm telling you when you're gonna
- 26:44Speaker 2: be pulling out this And I hope and I believe me, Alex,
- 26:46Speaker 2: I hope I'm wrong. I hope. I hope he's successful.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But come Halloween or before that, you're gonna be going back.
- 26:54Speaker 2: And I'm gonna say, Alex, you got to start the
- 26:56Speaker 2: podcast off, oh with the tape of and I said
- 27:00Speaker 2: he'll be gone by Halloween and if and believe me,
- 27:04Speaker 2: other people in the league know that. So if you're
- 27:06Speaker 2: a top notch defensive coordinator, possibility like a Jim Leonard,
- 27:10Speaker 2: one of my favorite Jets, and I guess he interviewed
- 27:15Speaker 2: for the defensive coordinator drop would you take that job?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Where maybe by November first, by Halloween, Aaron Glenn's going
- 27:23Speaker 2: to be fired, which means you'll be looking for another
- 27:26Speaker 2: job next year. Now it'll get one because he's a
- 27:28Speaker 2: highly respected defensive coach, but again that hurts recruitment of
- 27:36Speaker 2: these coaches. Again, Hopefully I'm wrong, Hopefully Aaron Glenn is successful, Alex,
- 27:43Speaker 2: I don't see it.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I also think he's been I don't think he's been
- 27:48Speaker 1: saddled with a good system around him either, but we'll
- 27:50Speaker 1: have to see. And it is frustrating when the other
- 27:55Speaker 1: side of town, the Giants have this hoop lot and
- 27:58Speaker 1: all of a sudden you look at the Jets and
- 28:00Speaker 1: sort of like cold and and and despair and right right,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but look two years ago the Jets had all the
- 28:06Speaker 1: hoop lout when they got Rogers, and four plays into
- 28:08Speaker 1: the season, he blew He blew out of his achilles.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Now again, as I said to you last week, even
- 28:13Speaker 2: if Harbwall blows out his achilles or tars his acl
- 28:17Speaker 2: somebody runs into him on the sidelines, he can still coach.
- 28:20Speaker 2: That's the big difference. But there's no guarantee of success.
- 28:23Speaker 2: And we saw with Pete Carroll, a guy who won
- 28:25Speaker 2: a national championship in college football, went to two Super Bowls,
- 28:29Speaker 2: won them, won one of them, and uh couldn't get
- 28:33Speaker 2: out of his own way this year. What the what
- 28:35Speaker 2: the what? What the Vegas team of coaches.
- 28:39Speaker 1: That's a really sad exit for him. But I want
- 28:42Speaker 1: to I want to go back to to that two
- 28:44Speaker 1: years ago, because who was the coach two years ago?
- 28:48Speaker 1: Robert Salad for six weeks. Yeah, Now, I don't know
- 28:54Speaker 1: what you can bring to the Titans. What do you
- 28:55Speaker 1: think they hired him for? Where's the second chance going
- 28:58Speaker 1: to lead him?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Well, Alex, if I was in my job, if I
- 29:02Speaker 2: was when I was working, if I was twenty and
- 29:04Speaker 2: thirty six equivalent in my job, I probably would be
- 29:06Speaker 2: fired and never been hired again. So he was twenty
- 29:09Speaker 2: and thirty six. He's an outstanding defensive coach. He had
- 29:13Speaker 2: he is he and uh, you know, the Titans have
- 29:19Speaker 2: a lot of work to do. I mean, their roster
- 29:22Speaker 2: is full of holes. But he must have impressed them
- 29:25Speaker 2: in the interview. I don't know why they hired him,
- 29:30Speaker 2: but they they have a quarterback that looks like he
- 29:33Speaker 2: might be okay in cam Ward and uh again, some
- 29:40Speaker 2: organizations don't want the alpha male. They don't want Hall.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I still think there because Mosaic was letting Derek Henry
- 29:46Speaker 1: go to Baltimore. But that's just me, I mean, that's
- 29:48Speaker 1: just uh. They they they fell off after that, and
- 29:52Speaker 1: of course Rabel tried his best in Tennessee. It just
- 29:56Speaker 1: didn't really work out.
- 29:57Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean how we.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Tried to, you know, work with a young quarterback here
- 30:02Speaker 1: and it didn't really work. I guess they're he's gonna
- 30:04Speaker 1: try and redo do something different with cam Ward. We'll
- 30:07Speaker 1: have to see, well.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And I also think, let's face it now, we you
- 30:10Speaker 2: know we he was in an NFL coach of sixties
- 30:13Speaker 2: fifty six games. Robert Salill learned some things during all
- 30:18Speaker 2: fifty six games, some of the mistakes he made with
- 30:20Speaker 2: the Jets for his sake, hopefully he won't make again.
- 30:26Speaker 2: So you know, yeah, there was a learning curve, and
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'm sure he learned. He learned, he learned a lot
- 30:31Speaker 2: for his sake. I hope he did. I mean, but
- 30:35Speaker 2: we'll see.
- 30:36Speaker 1: We'll have to see, all right. The other stuff is baseball,
- 30:40Speaker 1: but I'm such we can talk baseball in the second.
- 30:42Speaker 1: But I'm such an NFL move just I just okay,
- 30:45Speaker 1: it's just a lot going on and a lot of moves.
- 30:48Speaker 1: But the thing with and a lot, I always feel
- 30:53Speaker 1: like these names always pop up like it's I'm trying
- 30:57Speaker 1: to lead somewhere, but it's always like I remember last year,
- 30:59Speaker 1: we had like three guys from the New York area
- 31:01Speaker 1: that was about being the Super Bowl with the Vikings,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and it was like, how did that happen. All these
- 31:05Speaker 1: guys pop up everywhere else. Why can't we have guys
- 31:09Speaker 1: be successful here before they move onward. That's what I'm
- 31:11Speaker 1: trying to figure out year after year.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Well, you have different decision makers every year. That's been
- 31:17Speaker 2: a problem.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Like maybe salad goes on in the AFC Championship. I mean,
- 31:21Speaker 1: this is how crazy the thing is.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Yeah, New York could happen. Remember Pete Carroll his first
- 31:26Speaker 2: year in coaching as a head coach. He was head
- 31:29Speaker 2: coach of the Jets six and ten and they made
- 31:32Speaker 2: him one and done, which was a mistake.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But I'm I'm a very big parallel guy. So I
- 31:42Speaker 1: think about thirty years ago when the Jet when the
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yanks brought on and I know it was a different
- 31:47Speaker 1: reception because the media actually hated Tory. But thirty years
- 31:51Speaker 1: ago there was another big slash in a managerial change,
- 31:54Speaker 1: and he led them to those two World Series. I
- 31:57Speaker 1: know football is different, but I couldn't help but think
- 31:59Speaker 1: of the thirty year pair all, like, well, maybe horror
- 32:02Speaker 1: bro do something to bring New York sports back, because
- 32:04Speaker 1: let's face it, when Tory got hired thirty years ago,
- 32:06Speaker 1: he changed the landscape of New York Sports forever, and
- 32:10Speaker 1: I think we're trying to hoping Harbor does the same.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Right now, Well, I'm not helping that, but I think
- 32:16Speaker 2: you could be right.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Because look, you look at the other sports. Oh my god,
- 32:22Speaker 1: the Knicks are disaster. I don't know now, they don't
- 32:25Speaker 1: want to play for Mike Brown. It's a it's a
- 32:28Speaker 1: very talcic situation there. And then you got the Rangers.
- 32:32Speaker 1: We need some kind of hope here.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Louis well again, ms, let's let's uh, let's let's we'll
- 32:38Speaker 2: talk about the Nick's real quick. They probably should not
- 32:42Speaker 2: have pulled a trigger on Thibodeau. I was never a
- 32:44Speaker 2: big Mike Brown fan, but I am not going to
- 32:47Speaker 2: trash him yet. It's the middle of the season. This
- 32:51Speaker 2: team doesn't seem this team, they're behind the Celtics. We
- 32:56Speaker 2: don't have their best player. I mean, it's from arkle ting.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I thought the Knicks would be a one or at
- 33:02Speaker 2: worst the two seed, and they're closer to the playing
- 33:07Speaker 2: tournament than the r to the one or two seed. Again, yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 2: somebody said the Knicks are are an athletic enough to
- 33:16Speaker 2: win the championship. Last week, an NBA scout said an
- 33:20Speaker 2: anonymous NBA scouts and maybe that's true. Momentum and I
- 33:24Speaker 2: don't know, and I don't think this is gonna happen
- 33:26Speaker 2: for the Knicks. But momentum on Jannis and at the
- 33:29Speaker 2: Koupo getting trade before the February fifth trade deadline seems
- 33:34Speaker 2: to be getting stronger and stronger each day. Brian Winhors
- 33:37Speaker 2: makes it sound like it's definitely gonna happen. Brian Winners
- 33:40Speaker 2: of ESPN. He said, it's it's.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's getting ugly out into Milwaukee. I'm hearing
- 33:46Speaker 1: like everybody's heard of against each other out there.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Now.
- 33:48Speaker 1: It's pretty bad, actually, what's going on out there?
- 33:51Speaker 2: Yeah, so I could see that happening. I don't know
- 33:54Speaker 2: if he's coming to the Knicks. But Alex, even if
- 33:56Speaker 2: he comes to the Knicks, I don't I don't think
- 33:58Speaker 2: that makes him a contender because how many guys are
- 34:00Speaker 2: gonna have to get rid of They're probably.
- 34:02Speaker 1: What's going on with Lebron by the way, I hear
- 34:04Speaker 1: that the bus family is upset with him or something.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I don't exactly know what's going on.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah, they were saying that you know, Lebron, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 2: Wart is welcome and kind of turned their back on
- 34:18Speaker 2: them and with some of the decisions that they made.
- 34:20Speaker 2: And Lebron is one of the reasons why they actually
- 34:23Speaker 2: sold their steak in the in the Los Angeles Lakers,
- 34:27Speaker 2: which is remarkable to me.
- 34:29Speaker 5: But when they sold their when they sold their share of.
- 34:33Speaker 2: The Lakers, they walked away with an amazing amount of money.
- 34:37Speaker 2: So I don't feel sorry for training of the buses.
- 34:41Speaker 1: And saying in basketball, I understand you got to mention
- 34:44Speaker 1: by Chris Carrino. Is that correct? I saw something from
- 34:48Speaker 1: our friend Dave German.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, No, I our buddy Jay Horwitz, who has
- 34:59Speaker 2: his own podcast. He interviewed NETS play by play announced
- 35:03Speaker 2: so Westwood One play by play announcer for NFL one
- 35:06Speaker 2: of the best in the business, Chris Carno, and for
- 35:11Speaker 2: his podcast, and he was talking. When he was talking
- 35:16Speaker 2: to Chris, somehow it came up that you know cross
- 35:19Speaker 2: where I you know, I worked for the NETS. And
- 35:20Speaker 2: he mentioned some other people like Jimmy Lamparello and Danny
- 35:24Speaker 2: Harris and John murch who was their old their former
- 35:29Speaker 2: PR director.
- 35:31Speaker 1: So I'm talking to a celebrity, is what I'm hearing.
- 35:33Speaker 2: No, you're not talking, You're not talking to You're not
- 35:35Speaker 2: talking to celebrity. You're just talking to another guy, another
- 35:38Speaker 2: guy who loves the business of sport, who loves sports
- 35:42Speaker 2: on the field, court, ice, grid iron.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Well, I just want to clear that up because I
- 35:50Speaker 1: was pretty cool. You got to mention by Jay all right, uh,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and Chris, all right, let's go to the ice per
- 35:55Speaker 1: a minute, because I've been saying for weeks now, the
- 35:57Speaker 1: Garden's been chending it. Fire Drury at this point, Louis,
- 36:01Speaker 1: you have another letter come out and then yeah, Venera
- 36:04Speaker 1: being told he's not gonna be extended. They've thrown the towel,
- 36:08Speaker 1: as you've said to me off there. But is firing
- 36:11Speaker 1: jury gonna change anything? I don't know what it's gonna change.
- 36:14Speaker 1: If they're already blown up, you.
- 36:17Speaker 2: May a good one. And the thing is, you know
- 36:19Speaker 2: they hired Mike Sullivan. Mike Sullivan has been a very
- 36:23Speaker 2: successful coach, almost like John Harbor. When they hired Mike Sullivan,
- 36:29Speaker 2: he did not think that after the New Year a
- 36:32Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. Uh, he was gonna be talking
- 36:35Speaker 2: to Chris Drewy and their longtime buddies that they were
- 36:40Speaker 2: gonna send a lot of season ticket holders saying that
- 36:43Speaker 2: we need to retool the team. That's why he left
- 36:46Speaker 2: Pittsburgh because it looked like Pittsburgh was going to retool
- 36:48Speaker 2: the team. But meanwhile, Pittsburgh since day one has had
- 36:52Speaker 2: a very good year. I mean, there was even talk
- 36:54Speaker 2: about training Corsby at the trade deadline this year. Well
- 36:57Speaker 2: that's not happening. And you know, they are in the
- 37:02Speaker 2: seventh or rage spot for the for the playoffs. I
- 37:05Speaker 2: don't know if Pittsburgh has the h enough to get
- 37:09Speaker 2: over the finish line to make the playoffs, but they
- 37:13Speaker 2: certainly didn't go into a retool or rebuild situation. I mean, Alex,
- 37:19Speaker 2: did you ever think that the New York Islands would
- 37:22Speaker 2: be eleven points ahead of the New York Rangers At
- 37:23Speaker 2: this stage and the season, it's almost hard to comprehend.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And that the terrible West Coast win. I mean, it's
- 37:33Speaker 1: been loss after loss, and it's not it's timing good losses.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I mean, we can understand a loss that's close. They
- 37:41Speaker 1: they don't even look competitive, and as I'm not really
- 37:44Speaker 1: watching that closely, but they don't even look competitive right now.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Well, I mean they lost to an animal, a young
- 37:51Speaker 2: Anaheim team that's probably more that is more athletic than them,
- 37:56Speaker 2: in all likelihood faster than them. They lost. They lost
- 38:00Speaker 2: to a King's team, and the Kings are always tough
- 38:02Speaker 2: to play, especially you know in LA. But the Rangers
- 38:07Speaker 2: have problems, man, they do, and they have.
- 38:11Speaker 1: How you've said the Molly Walker who continually updates us
- 38:14Speaker 1: on what line? I mean, she goes in depth. You
- 38:16Speaker 1: get the practice lines, you get the line I mean first,
- 38:19Speaker 1: she worked hard, she is he works hard, always got it.
- 38:22Speaker 1: And even the quotes after the game I forward to
- 38:25Speaker 1: you and others that may not get them, like, man,
- 38:28Speaker 1: this is some interesting content she's got even through a
- 38:31Speaker 1: rough year. Maybe we should just stop celebrating one hundred
- 38:34Speaker 1: seasons because it's not worked out for the Giants or
- 38:37Speaker 1: the Range.
- 38:39Speaker 2: You're right, No, you're right.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And so by twenty sixty two, which is actually twenty six, dyslexic,
- 38:47Speaker 1: maybe maybe we should not have the Mets one hundred
- 38:50Speaker 1: season in twenty sixty.
- 38:53Speaker 2: That's that, that is a very good point. But the
- 38:57Speaker 2: Rangers aren't free fall. The Rangers are the arrow's pointing
- 39:00Speaker 2: down the devil, with the devil's the average sideways. I
- 39:05Speaker 2: don't know if the allens have enough to make the playoffs.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I don't think they do. I don't think. I don't
- 39:09Speaker 2: think they'll make it. But even if they don't make it,
- 39:11Speaker 2: the arrow's definitely pointing out they've done a great job.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I mean, Palmery only played twenty five games. I think
- 39:20Speaker 2: now it's fourteen games without Horvat and then that you
- 39:26Speaker 2: know they need him, and they've still kept their ahead
- 39:29Speaker 2: above water. You know, Matthew Shaffer, We've talked about a
- 39:33Speaker 2: thousand times, and I'll throw another Matthew Shaeffer positive statistic
- 39:37Speaker 2: going going into this week, not counting the games the
- 39:40Speaker 2: last three four days, Matthew Shaeffer has drawn the third
- 39:46Speaker 2: most penalties in the NFL, I mean the NFL. In
- 39:49Speaker 2: the NHL, he has drawn the third most penalty.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Now it's okay, Louis I said they Mendoza gonna be
- 39:55Speaker 1: drafted by the Las Vegas Knights, so we're on the scene. No,
- 40:00Speaker 1: it's uh, he's physical, and I know that hat that
- 40:03Speaker 1: you hate that because he's such a young kid. But
- 40:05Speaker 1: he's physical. He as that he survived a cross check
- 40:08Speaker 1: and goes in and scores the game winning goal. I mean,
- 40:10Speaker 1: the kids aggressive and they need that, but they all
- 40:13Speaker 1: got to pretend preserve his energy for future seasons, you.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Know, absolutely so. So I mean, even if the Allads
- 40:20Speaker 2: don't make the playoffs, I still I think the arrows
- 40:24Speaker 2: pointing up cal Ritchie has. You know that was lou
- 40:28Speaker 2: Lamarrello's last trade when he trade brought Nelson to Colorado.
- 40:31Speaker 2: By the way, Brock, Nelson's on an incredible hot tear
- 40:34Speaker 2: lately for you.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Oh, that West just looks more dominant in the East
- 40:38Speaker 1: right now.
- 40:39Speaker 2: It is it is.
- 40:41Speaker 1: And that's not even talking about Connor McDavid because I
- 40:44Speaker 1: don't even know what he you know, he's kind of
- 40:46Speaker 1: doing his own thing up in Edmonton right now.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Alex. He might score he might score one hundred and
- 40:50Speaker 2: fifty points this year. I mean he might hit one fifty.
- 40:55Speaker 1: The likelihand of a three time. You know, matchup between
- 40:59Speaker 1: the Panthers and the Oilers is a lot likely, but
- 41:01Speaker 1: will have to see.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Yeah, the Panthers are on Panthers are running on empty
- 41:07Speaker 2: so well, I mean they are out of a playoff
- 41:09Speaker 2: spot right now. They've actually been outscored this season. They
- 41:15Speaker 2: might be running on empty. But I'll tell you one thing.
- 41:17Speaker 2: The Pampa Bay is with all their injuries, with Headman out,
- 41:22Speaker 2: with Ryan mcdonner out, with Brendan point out. I mean
- 41:24Speaker 2: Headman has been out for a long time, so as McDonough,
- 41:27Speaker 2: I mean they are they are cooking, and I think
- 41:31Speaker 2: they I think John Cooper is the best coach in
- 41:33Speaker 2: the National Hockey League, I really do. He's remarkable and
- 41:39Speaker 2: he's you know, uh, he's going to be the coach
- 41:41Speaker 2: of Team Canada in the Olympics against Mike Sullivan and
- 41:46Speaker 2: another they were. They went against each other in four
- 41:49Speaker 2: Nations last year.
- 41:50Speaker 1: So hopefully let's by the way, I gotta lay out
- 41:54Speaker 1: the sports calendar for everybody that may not be knowing.
- 41:57Speaker 1: We got the AMC NFC Championship, but you look at February,
- 42:01Speaker 1: you've got Super Bowl. Then you've got the Olympics that
- 42:05Speaker 1: takes us through to March. In March you have the
- 42:08Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic, March Madness, Spring Trading, uh, and then
- 42:12Speaker 1: in April we're back. We're gonna have a lot of
- 42:15Speaker 1: funny here the next few months. It's like, finally there's
- 42:17Speaker 1: not gonna be a dull moment after the Super Bowl
- 42:19Speaker 1: for a while.
- 42:20Speaker 2: There will not be a dull moment and That's that's
- 42:23Speaker 2: fine with me.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I'll be excited for that, all right. Speaking of owners, though,
- 42:28Speaker 1: can we just address what happened yesterday. I mean, you
- 42:31Speaker 1: fire McDermott up in Buffalo, and I think that that
- 42:35Speaker 1: was a long time coming after Saturday's loss. But then
- 42:39Speaker 1: you just make it messy of your Pagoula by throwing
- 42:41Speaker 1: everybody else like it was just shut up already and
- 42:44Speaker 1: just enjoying your new stadium, is what I was thinking, Alex.
- 42:48Speaker 5: That was one of the most bizarre, embarrassing press conferences
- 42:56Speaker 5: that that I've that I've seen in a long time.
- 43:00Speaker 2: It really was Pagoula. He's the owner, to seem, but
- 43:09Speaker 2: what he did yesterday is stepping on the general manager,
- 43:15Speaker 2: Brandon Bean ridiculous. I'm no fan of Brandon Bean. I
- 43:19Speaker 2: think that he probably gave you know, McDermott the old
- 43:25Speaker 2: knife in the back McDermott, you know, ninety eight and fifty.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Most teams would would walk on broken glass to have
- 43:33Speaker 2: a record like that. I don't think Josh Allen had
- 43:39Speaker 2: anything to do with the firing.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I think, you know what, I applaud him for saying
- 43:43Speaker 1: quiet through all the drama, like he just kept it zip.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Well, he's no leader.
- 43:49Speaker 1: He can't start mouthing off against anybody. And I do
- 43:53Speaker 1: believe though he deserves better on that team. There's no
- 43:55Speaker 1: doubt about it.
- 43:56Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it. Alex the only reason they
- 43:59Speaker 2: but they got. Yeah, he turned the ball over a
- 44:01Speaker 2: couple of times, and he had he never turns the
- 44:03Speaker 2: ball over in big spots, but he did. You know,
- 44:07Speaker 2: he did on on a Saturday. But he got He
- 44:10Speaker 2: gets no help. The only reason that they were able
- 44:14Speaker 2: to be in that game, turning the ball over five
- 44:16Speaker 2: times was because of him. Usually you do that, you're
- 44:21Speaker 2: getting uh, you know, you're getting wiped off the field.
- 44:23Speaker 2: But this was not a great Buffalo team we talked
- 44:28Speaker 2: about all year. They couldn't stop the run. They had
- 44:32Speaker 2: the wide receiver. They have no wide receivers that scare you.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Do you do you double uh? Do you game plan
- 44:38Speaker 2: for any of their wide receivers? The answer is no,
- 44:41Speaker 2: I don't care how good Josh Allen is and uh McDermott.
- 44:48Speaker 2: About five or six weeks ago, in a meeting with
- 44:50Speaker 2: Pagoula and and with Bean, they asked him, as this team,
- 44:55Speaker 2: I have a roster strong enough to go to the
- 44:56Speaker 2: Super Bowl, and McDermott said, no, I mean it might
- 45:01Speaker 2: have won because of Allen and and uh.
- 45:03Speaker 1: And the mother. You have a super Bowl caliber guy
- 45:05Speaker 1: and mkole Harmon up there. I mean, that's really all
- 45:08Speaker 1: the weaponry I know.
- 45:09Speaker 2: And then but McCole harmon's over hill and he and
- 45:12Speaker 2: he should have made that catch on Saturday, which he didn't.
- 45:18Speaker 2: But they had to bring mcole Hartmon in late in
- 45:21Speaker 2: the season because they have nobody else. So what happened
- 45:26Speaker 2: yesterday is an embarrassment. And I don't know if they
- 45:30Speaker 2: might have to Uh, you're not gonna see a bit.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I would be surprised if you see a major coach
- 45:37Speaker 2: end up there, like say a Tomlin or.
- 45:40Speaker 1: We're not a Dable Alan reunion. That could be in
- 45:43Speaker 1: the works. We don't know that, but that's.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I think that's a possibility. Dabele's a safe choice, even
- 45:48Speaker 2: though we had a he had a Robert Salah unsuccessful
- 45:51Speaker 2: type tenure here, but that's I would not be surprised.
- 45:57Speaker 2: He's a safe choice. He's been in Buffalo, he was
- 46:00Speaker 2: Allen's offensive coordinator in the past. So Alex, I think
- 46:04Speaker 2: you're you're right on the money with that.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Well, let me bookmark that in case it happens, and uh,
- 46:09Speaker 1: we'll replay that tape too. All right, Lou, I've enjoyed
- 46:13Speaker 1: our wide ranging conversation, but we gotta end with this. Finally,
- 46:18Speaker 1: the Dodgers don't get somebody, and that somebody's Bellinger. He
- 46:21Speaker 1: does resign with the Yankees, we all act like, thank god,
- 46:24Speaker 1: we got you know, the Yanks got him. But Lou,
- 46:28Speaker 1: I'm just hopeful that a revitalized infusion with Oswaldo Cabrera
- 46:33Speaker 1: can bring us over the top. I just and I
- 46:36Speaker 1: know I shouldn't say us, but I'm a Yankees fan first,
- 46:39Speaker 1: as you know, so I could let that out a
- 46:41Speaker 1: little bit. I don't know Bellinger's being hyped as this
- 46:46Speaker 1: big return, but there was nothing else the Yankees did
- 46:49Speaker 1: this year, Loie, Well nothing else.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Uh. Baseball's Baseball's in a little bit of a tough
- 46:57Speaker 2: situation because we don't know if a year from now
- 47:02Speaker 2: we'll be they'll be preparing for spring training or there'll
- 47:04Speaker 2: be a lockout or a strike or whatever.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Apparently Trump secured a deal for Greenland before the Dodgers did. Okay,
- 47:12Speaker 1: that's where we're at right now.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Well, I I think I think you nailed that. Correct.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Bellinger is a fine player, and I actually thought the
- 47:23Speaker 2: Mets were going to get him. But you know, he
- 47:27Speaker 2: signed a five year deal, which is really a two
- 47:29Speaker 2: year deal, you know, just like the sheet he signed
- 47:32Speaker 2: a three year deal, it's really a one year deal
- 47:34Speaker 2: because they have the opt outs. But the Yankees, the
- 47:39Speaker 2: Yankees needed Bellinger, and Bellinger is perfect for the Yankees. Obviously,
- 47:43Speaker 2: we talked about the home and road splits. Uh, he's
- 47:46Speaker 2: perfect to the stadium, as you know, as a left
- 47:49Speaker 2: handed hither and he's and he's versatile, but he's more
- 47:53Speaker 2: and I agree with you, he's more of a complimentary player.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Than each keeps the line of stable, right now, that's
- 48:01Speaker 1: the whole point.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Yes, that's a good way of putting.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It, because if they lost him, that would have been
- 48:06Speaker 1: even more of a disaster. But it is sad that
- 48:09Speaker 1: the only thing the Yanks can really uh Yankee fans
- 48:12Speaker 1: can really high bub about is the fact that they
- 48:17Speaker 1: got Bellinger back. That's really the only thing that happened.
- 48:19Speaker 1: All right, all right, let me let me ask you
- 48:22Speaker 1: about this, because we talked about it last year. What
- 48:25Speaker 1: was the one thing that we both agreed on with
- 48:27Speaker 1: the Mets. They have the hitting shore, but the pitching
- 48:30Speaker 1: was lacking. Now they get rid of a few hitters
- 48:33Speaker 1: like Alonzo and Nimo, but at least they just solidify
- 48:35Speaker 1: the rotation a bit With Perolta. I'm kind of excited
- 48:38Speaker 1: to see what this pitching staff is now.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think it was a good move. Again,
- 48:45Speaker 2: he is a free agent at the end of this year,
- 48:48Speaker 2: and it seems like we are going the deals the
- 48:51Speaker 2: last couple of years. Even Alonso last year had three
- 48:54Speaker 2: year deal with a one year opt out. These deals
- 49:00Speaker 2: shorter now that the Mets are inheriting a deal from
- 49:05Speaker 2: from Milwaukee with Parolta. I like Parolta. I mean, he's solid,
- 49:10Speaker 2: he gives I would say he's like a number two.
- 49:12Speaker 2: He's not an eighth. He's not a number one. He's
- 49:15Speaker 2: not a Strubel or or when Garrett Cole was healthy
- 49:20Speaker 2: and Garrett Cole type number one. But is the Mets
- 49:26Speaker 2: pitching stead better today than it was yesterday? Without question?
- 49:28Speaker 2: It is. I always like Boba Schett always. I mean
- 49:34Speaker 2: he's never played third, but he's.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Louis Robert is a good requisition. But you know it's funny.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Cohen also touting these moves like they made the best
- 49:45Speaker 1: moves again, they're they're moves that keep a team stable
- 49:49Speaker 1: in there in the season. They're not outstanding, Oh my god,
- 49:52Speaker 1: we improve moves. They're kind of like, well, we'll compete.
- 49:56Speaker 1: We'll see how far we get the type of moves.
- 49:58Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, it's.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Just yeah, I mean, you know, I can't believe. You know,
- 50:03Speaker 2: obviously they're not gonna have as many home runs as
- 50:05Speaker 2: they did last year. I mean, you had Soto hit
- 50:08Speaker 2: forty three and you had Alonzo hit what he hit
- 50:13Speaker 2: thirty seven thirty eight last year. I mean, that's a
- 50:16Speaker 2: lot of home runs between two guys, even in this
- 50:18Speaker 2: day and age of.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Him, I think can produce for you.
- 50:20Speaker 2: I really too. I'm a big fan. I mean, the
- 50:23Speaker 2: guy led the Markling and hits twice. He was going
- 50:25Speaker 2: to lead him again last year, but he you know,
- 50:28Speaker 2: he hurt himself on September eighth. Uh, he fought his
- 50:31Speaker 2: way back to playing the World Series. He hit that
- 50:33Speaker 2: home run off of Otani. He's a gamer. I like him.
- 50:37Speaker 2: I think it's a positive thing for the Mets. Are
- 50:41Speaker 2: they are the Mets and Yankees done yet? I don't know,
- 50:45Speaker 2: I don't know if they are, so, so it'll be Alex.
- 50:51Speaker 2: He'll be interesting because we don't know after this year
- 50:54Speaker 2: when we'll see baseball next.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Right, Well, that's the thing I want to line up
- 50:58Speaker 1: that Judge can actually win with, because the lockout could
- 51:01Speaker 1: be another year wasted of Judge's career. God for to
- 51:04Speaker 1: get to that.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's correct. I mean, I think we talked about
- 51:07Speaker 2: it in a different sport. You know. Avechkin is you know,
- 51:10Speaker 2: now he's got nine hundred and fifteen, nine hundred and
- 51:12Speaker 2: sixteen goals, but his rookie year was supposed to be
- 51:15Speaker 2: the lockout of the year that went down to drain
- 51:17Speaker 2: the lockout year the two thousand and four two thousand
- 51:19Speaker 2: and five season. So say, if he's scored forty goals
- 51:21Speaker 2: as a rookie, he would be he would be be
- 51:24Speaker 2: around nine to fifty five somewhere in there. So again,
- 51:27Speaker 2: you're right about Judge that that will affect his his stats.
- 51:30Speaker 2: And he's not getting any younger. You know, Judge is
- 51:33Speaker 2: thirty three, and you know what's the old saying Father
- 51:37Speaker 2: time is undefeated?
- 51:38Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Louis well speaking of nine hundred something. Yeah,
- 51:44Speaker 1: I'm glad you said that, because one guy I keep
- 51:47Speaker 1: saying good luck to every few months, Rick Patino Uh
- 51:50Speaker 1: is on his way to win nine hundred. And look,
- 51:53Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad the seat in the Hall of
- 51:54Speaker 1: Saint John Drivory is competitive again. Saint John's had their
- 51:58Speaker 1: number a couple of years there, but she's got that
- 52:01Speaker 1: Seaton Hall team up and running almost full steam ahead.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I mean, they look good compared the way of their
- 52:06Speaker 1: last couple of years. So I'm glad it was a
- 52:08Speaker 1: competitive game. And I guess Saint John's came back from
- 52:10Speaker 1: fifteen down that that's impressive considering they've had some struggles.
- 52:15Speaker 1: But so Saturday in the Xavier they could get coach
- 52:21Speaker 1: nine hundred wins. That would be quite a feat against
- 52:24Speaker 1: his son. But could his son do it? Could he
- 52:26Speaker 1: knock off his father in that game?
- 52:28Speaker 2: Sure he could? He Sure he could, he definitely could.
- 52:31Speaker 2: It's really ironic that when number nine hundred is coming
- 52:34Speaker 2: against his kid.
- 52:36Speaker 1: But if it doesn't, I might actually get tickets to
- 52:38Speaker 1: the Garden because I see they're here next Wednesday against Butler,
- 52:41Speaker 1: and I try and go to that to see if
- 52:43Speaker 1: I get to see one nine hundred there. So we'll
- 52:45Speaker 1: see how the cards may fall this weekend.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Now you lead me, you lead me to another situation.
- 52:51Speaker 2: Now he's going for nine hundred on Saturday, a fantastic achievement,
- 52:56Speaker 2: but they took some victories away from him for I
- 53:01Speaker 2: don't know if either at louis Yeah, Louisville.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Louisville because of the FBI situation.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And again I don't know, Alex. The way college
- 53:11Speaker 2: sports is nowadays, with guys getting paid, there's really no
- 53:15Speaker 2: rules with guys not going to classics.
- 53:18Speaker 1: If Reggie Bush could get his his heisman back, why
- 53:21Speaker 1: not give Patino back his wins? After this?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Absolutely, Patino Beheim all those guys. I mean, there's probably
- 53:29Speaker 2: one hundred guys like.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Give give and I know it's a different situation, but
- 53:33Speaker 1: give the kids who had nothing to do with the
- 53:36Speaker 1: the Penn State situation. Give those kids the wins back.
- 53:39Speaker 2: You know, absolutely, without question.
- 53:41Speaker 1: That vacating really pissed me off because you were punishing
- 53:44Speaker 1: kids that had no idea what Jerry Sandusky was doing.
- 53:48Speaker 1: And by the way, today's Jay Paterno's anniversary of his passing,
- 53:52Speaker 1: I believe today, So that's interesting we're talking about.
- 53:54Speaker 2: It, and a great he was a great man.
- 53:58Speaker 1: He really was, no matter what they say. And I've
- 54:00Speaker 1: had jay On before, and obviously I have a very
- 54:04Speaker 1: contrary to other people, I have a very respect for
- 54:07Speaker 1: the paternal family. You always have me too.
- 54:09Speaker 2: I do too.
- 54:11Speaker 1: And so you know, give those kids wins back. Who
- 54:16Speaker 1: else could I think of that? You know they've just
- 54:19Speaker 1: taken away from because of things and and of course
- 54:23Speaker 1: the other thing that I'm thinking of now I talk
- 54:24Speaker 1: about them, I l and all that, the gambling thing.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Let the kids do whatever they want. I'm sorry, but
- 54:30Speaker 1: if we're gonna partner with gambling rings like FanDuel and
- 54:34Speaker 1: all that, what the Let the players do what they want.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Stop punishing them if you're allowing it already.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Well again, but again, Alex, Alex, That's why I would
- 54:42Speaker 2: disagree with you. You can't fix games. You can't throw points,
- 54:45Speaker 2: you can't shave points. That's that that that affects the integrity.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Let me say.
- 54:53Speaker 2: That.
- 54:53Speaker 1: In my view though, it's like you're punishing someone where
- 54:58Speaker 1: the gateways. There is the point I'm trying to make.
- 55:02Speaker 6: Okay, I mean, but I don't think they have to
- 55:05Speaker 6: fix the games at all, But I feel like the
- 55:08Speaker 6: punishment should then be doled out to the league for
- 55:11Speaker 6: partnering with them in the beginning to begin with.
- 55:13Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, again, the gambling situation is out of
- 55:20Speaker 2: control in sports. And we knew that shit like art,
- 55:25Speaker 2: that crap like this was going to happen.
- 55:27Speaker 1: I mean, we don't even know where this class A
- 55:28Speaker 1: situation is going to go, but it's going to be
- 55:31Speaker 1: serious if he's really uh. I know they suspended it,
- 55:34Speaker 1: but it could be worse for him.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Alex will never see him again pitch in the major leagues.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I mean, they could still be jail time at the
- 55:41Speaker 1: end of these investigations. Absolutely, yeah, they could all for
- 55:45Speaker 1: throwing a pitch. Did they not learn from nineteen nineteen?
- 55:49Speaker 1: You know, it's just it's it's it's a mess. But
- 55:53Speaker 1: for the ones that earn it, that don't fix it,
- 55:55Speaker 1: give their wins back, I think is the point you're
- 55:56Speaker 1: trying to make.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, yes, that's the point. Yeah, mm hmm.
- 56:02Speaker 1: And Patino, you know, I thought he was kind of
- 56:05Speaker 1: how about Sean Miller or whatever his name was out
- 56:07Speaker 1: in Arizona who was wired to a by the FBI,
- 56:11Speaker 1: And I'm thinking to myself, you're wired talking to being
- 56:14Speaker 1: an NCAA basketball coach while letting real tragedies happen by
- 56:18Speaker 1: falling by not falling up on tips. I mean, the
- 56:21Speaker 1: psyche of some of these institutions really bothers me sometimes.
- 56:24Speaker 2: So yeah, no, I I sympathize with those situations, no
- 56:32Speaker 2: doubt about it.
- 56:33Speaker 1: And the Nil we'll see what happens. But we always
- 56:37Speaker 1: saw how badly he got with the gm of of
- 56:39Speaker 1: Saint John's. That was kind of crazy, that story.
- 56:41Speaker 2: But well Patino says he knew nothing about about it.
- 56:44Speaker 1: Oh, I believe it. I know Patino would not let
- 56:47Speaker 1: that happen.
- 56:47Speaker 2: But Alex, like John Horbot, is the New York Giants
- 56:51Speaker 2: and he is running the whole show. Rick Patino is
- 56:55Speaker 2: running the whole show. I would, I would, I'm really
- 56:57Speaker 2: I would have to. I'm a little skeptical he did
- 57:00Speaker 2: not know what was going on.
- 57:03Speaker 1: The other Jim, how about Jim Harbor and in the
- 57:06Speaker 1: Michigan disaster by the way, the ad could be really
- 57:09Speaker 1: in hot water here. Yeah, so we'll see. I mean,
- 57:13Speaker 1: these scandals happened, and you realize how widespread, like it's
- 57:17Speaker 1: not just Michigan football. Then they're investigating everything in Michigan.
- 57:20Speaker 1: It's just it's amazing what these investigators lead to.
- 57:23Speaker 2: You know, Oh, well that opens up a can of worms.
- 57:28Speaker 1: And uh and then so there's that what else on
- 57:31Speaker 1: the show? Hey thing? You can keep talking about that
- 57:33Speaker 1: too show. Hey did he know about the gambling situation
- 57:36Speaker 1: with this interpreter? I mean, come on, he has Yeah,
- 57:41Speaker 1: you're no MLB network, Everybody glazed over him. Joe Davis
- 57:45Speaker 1: gets to call Dodger World Series games and glaze over him.
- 57:49Speaker 1: There it's and I love his football. I love that
- 57:52Speaker 1: he's so Bertil and co can do football and baseball.
- 57:55Speaker 1: But I wish you would be taking off the Dodger
- 57:57Speaker 1: stuff because it gets a little nauseating at times.
- 57:59Speaker 2: I hate to say, I can't say I disagree with you.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Uh yeah. And by the way, who was the team?
- 58:07Speaker 1: Who was the guy announcing, uh you, Miami versus Notre Dame.
- 58:11Speaker 1: After I had to hear him call the freaking Rangers
- 58:14Speaker 1: loose to the Panthers, Sean McDonough I'm like, are you
- 58:17Speaker 1: kidding me? I have to listen to this guy doing
- 58:18Speaker 1: the fall anyway? I digress. Uh No.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Mcdonno's a great announcer, Alex.
- 58:25Speaker 1: He's fantastic and just when he calls your team on
- 58:27Speaker 1: the other side, it's like, just what what are you
- 58:30Speaker 1: trying to do to me? I want to hear send
- 58:32Speaker 1: some win from the guy. But anyway, we'll see what happens. Anyway, Louie,
- 58:36Speaker 1: this has been a great Terminalo's take. We went an hour, uh,
- 58:40Speaker 1: just to kick off this year. So how about that
- 58:42Speaker 1: or second week of the year.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Hey, I love talking to you.
- 58:47Speaker 1: Thd week of the year. That's crazy. But yeah, we
- 58:49Speaker 1: went an hour long because we haven't talked in a
- 58:51Speaker 1: little bit. So I'm glad we had this catchup and uh,
- 58:53Speaker 1: any you als want to add on Totermino's take before
- 58:55Speaker 1: we're done.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Well, I did see one of your favorites, Tommy Reese
- 58:59Speaker 2: is now the new offensive coordinator for Kevin Stefanski in Atlanta.
- 59:04Speaker 1: You know, that's a guy I really want to meet
- 59:06Speaker 1: one day. So maybe that'll happen. Because I grew up
- 59:08Speaker 1: watching and listening to Tommy Reese and Don Crickie call
- 59:12Speaker 1: his game.
- 59:12Speaker 2: So Tommy Reese is getting closer and closer to a
- 59:15Speaker 2: head coaching job. I mean he's still a young man.
- 59:17Speaker 2: I think he's like thirty three or thirty four. I
- 59:20Speaker 2: mean he's still very very well.
- 59:21Speaker 1: When Alabama hires you, you're good stuff. I'll tell you that.
- 59:23Speaker 2: Yeah, now he's got he's got an impressive resume.
- 59:27Speaker 1: And I see, I guess he followed Stefanski to Atlanta.
- 59:29Speaker 1: So good fan, good to see that how it all
- 59:32Speaker 1: shakes out. And you're right, we still have a lot
- 59:34Speaker 1: of coaching vacancy. So that's what what we got to
- 59:36Speaker 1: keep an eye on for the next ship.
- 59:38Speaker 2: And another breaking news, the Washington Nationals are trading All
- 59:42Speaker 2: Star left hander Mackenzie Gore, who was linked to the Mets,
- 59:46Speaker 2: but apparently they wanted a boat load back to the
- 59:49Speaker 2: Texas Rangers for five players that not mentioned here. This's
- 59:53Speaker 2: just broke.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I saw that as we're talking.
- 59:57Speaker 2: All right, Lou.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Always a pleasure and we'll do this again next week.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Alex, you're the best. I appreciate it. Thank you, pal,
