- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Have you ever scrolled through your podcast app and wondered what you should listen to next?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: There are literally hundreds of thousands of podcasts available, but it's hard to know which shows are worth your time.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And if you've wondered what podcasts can help you be a better writer or help grow your business, I've got you covered on this episode.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Well, hello, my friend.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: This is Kent Sanders from Inkwell Ghostwriting.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Welcome to this episode of the Smart Business Writing Podcast.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: This is the show that helps you grow your business, amplify your authority, and increase your impact through the power of writing.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: As always, I appreciate you joining me on this episode today.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Well, I've been looking forward to putting this episode together for quite a while.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And I love top 10 lists, or in this case, I guess it's a top 15 list.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Although I also realize they're kind of arbitrary.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, I mean, who's really to say what the top podcasts are, or the top movies, or the top books, or the top anything?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: That said, I do think there's a lot of value in sitting down and trying to determine which tools and resources are the ones that you truly recommend.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So I've gone through my extensive list of podcasts that I listen to and I've curated the ones that I think are the best for business writers.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Now, before I get into this list itself, here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: First of all, I value learning from a variety of sources.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And this means not all the shows on my list are directly about business writing.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: In fact, most of them are not on the narrow topic of business writing.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: There's really actually only a very, very small hand few of podcasts that are on the topic itself of business writing.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Like I can only think of three, including mine, that have business writing in the title or some permutation of that title.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So that's an extremely narrow niche, the niche of business writing, as far as podcasts go.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But the shows on my list will all help you in your goal to become a better or more successful business writer.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Second of all, here's my criteria for selecting podcasts for my top 15 list.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Number one, it has to be a show that's currently producing episodes, or at least within the last several weeks or a couple months.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Number two, I have to honestly listen to it on at least a semi-regular basis.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Now keep in mind that there are a lot of podcasts on writing and business out there.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: There are also a lot of podcasts on self-publishing and writing, and I mean a lot of podcasts on those topics.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And many of them are fantastic, but I've excluded the ones that I don't personally listen to or haven't listened to in a long time.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: So I guess what I'm saying is if there are shows that you love that are on writing or self-publishing or related things like books or business, but it's not on my list, it doesn't mean it's a bad show.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: It just means I don't happen to listen to that particular show at least very often.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And then finally, number three, to be included in my list, the show has to offer something of value in writing skills, business skills, creativity, or mindset.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Now I realize that mindset is a really broad term, but it's probably the most important of all those four things.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Because without the right type of mindset for success, all the skills and knowledge in the world will not be able to help you.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So I find that the shows dealing with attitude or mindset are typically the ones that are my favorites.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Those are the ones that help me the most personally.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: If you're constantly listening to shows about strategies and business tactics and all that stuff, it's really easy to get overwhelmed and you just get paralyzed.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: At least that's what happens to me.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So all things being equal, I will usually choose a show that's interesting or entertaining over a show that might have good information, but it's not produced well, or it lacks energy, or it's just kind of dry.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: For example, I can think of uh a podcast on ghostwriting that is really, really dry.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And uh it's just not well produced, the audio is not very good.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Um, that's in in direct contrast to one of my favorite podcasts, and in fact, this is what I'll mention here, which is the show Get Paid to Write, which is on ghostwriting, uh, that's produced by my friend Nick Pavlitas.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: That's an excellent, excellent, excellent show, which I'll rave about that a little bit later on.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: But anyway, I'm just saying that a show can have good information and can actually have some helpful stuff, but if it's not, if it doesn't have energy, or if the host, you know, isn't doing a very good job on some level.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can be pretty forgiving of a podcast host.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be like, you know, some crazy entertaining episode of Seinfeld or something to be a good podcast.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: But um, if it's not very well produced or if it has zero energy, then I'm probably not going to listen to it.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So therefore, I always have a bias towards shows that give me motivation and energy, or they're fun to listen to, rather than just information-based shows.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: So, with all that explanation, which is way too much explanation, out of the way, let's dive into the top 15 podcasts for business writers as determined by yours truly.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And these are in no particular order.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Hang on for three seconds.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna grab a drink of lemonade.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Hang on one sec.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's dive in here.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Number one is 48 Days with Dan Miller.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: This is a show that I've been listening to for literally for years.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: It's one of the very first podcasts that I ever started listening to years ago.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Dan Miller is a career coach, an author, and a speaker, and the premise of the show is helping you find or create work that you love.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: This is a solo show where Dan mostly answers listener questions related to job, career, or money.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Dan is kind of like the awesome uncle who you know is gonna shoot straight with you and give you absolutely amazing advice.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: It's like everybody should have somebody in their circle that's like a Dan Miller because they're just gonna make your life a lot better by virtue of just being around and giving you really cool advice and inspiration and encouragement.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: What you're gonna get when you listen to 48 Days is you're going to learn how to think like an entrepreneur and to look at the world differently.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Plus, Dan is a very successful author and he talks often about writing and how it's the hub for a lot of his business success.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Dan and his books have been such a big help to me over the years that I joined his 48 Days Eagles community, uh, I think when it first opened up a couple years ago.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And this is a paid group, and man, it is like the best money, some of the best money you will ever spend, because it's just such a wonderful community.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: You can check it out by going to 48daysEagles.com.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Also, if you'd like to hear my recent interview with Dan here on this podcast, you can check out episode 158, and you'll probably love my conversation with his wife Joanne, which is the episode right before that, episode 157.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: So I got kind of a uh two for not a two-for-one deal, but it was really fun to be able to interview both Dan and Joanne on back-to-back episodes.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: They're both such wonderful people.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I just uh love them to pieces, and they've been such a such a huge influence on my life, as they have so many other people.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: All right, let's move on to number two, which is Total Life Freedom, a podcast hosted by Vincent Puglisi.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Now, you've heard me mention Vincent a few times before here on the podcast, and I actually interviewed him back on episode 95.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Vincent is an entrepreneur, a former professional uh sports photographer, and author of the amazing book called Freelance to Freedom.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Now, Total Life Freedom, I'm gonna just be totally transparent with you.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: This is the only podcast where I listen literally to every single episode.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Now, granted, each episode is only a few minutes long, but it's a daily podcast.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And um, I'm in awe of Vincent's ability to tell creative, funny, uh gripping, and amazing stories that will motivate you to build a life of time, money, and location freedom.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: That's really what the whole total life freedom message is about is helping you build a life of time, money, and location freedom.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Now, the reason I've listed him in this list of 15 podcasts for business writers is because Vincent has a very unique take on marketing, especially when it comes to giving away your books.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: And in fact, if you go to his website, which is totalifefreedom.com, you can grab his freelance to freedom audiobook for free, which is pretty cool.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And it's it's a really, really good book.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: So you definitely need to grab that, especially since it's free.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, why wouldn't you?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: But I'm also going to recommend that you buy a print copy of it because you're going to want to mark up that sucker because you're going to take a lot of notes and underline and highlight a lot of stuff.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: So I love Vincent's approach to life and to business so much that I'm a member, I'm a paid member of his Total Life Freedom community, which has been so vital in helping me get a bigger vision for my life and to think more like an entrepreneur over the last year or so.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: And it's an amazing community, and I highly, highly recommend it.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at totalifefreedom.com.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And again, I'm I'm just telling you, I I've I've kind of put these two podcasts up front in this in this episode, Total Life Freedom and 40 and uh 48 Days podcasts by Dan Miller.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I've put these two up front because uh those two gentlemen have impacted me in uh just an enormous way in my life.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And they were they truly have.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you highly to check out those two podcasts.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: They, if you put those principles into practice that those guys are teaching you, I promise you it'll change your life.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: All right, let's move on here.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Podcast number three is Brand New Personal Branding, hosted by Mike Kim.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Mike is a copywriter, speaker, and a branding coach, and he does both solo shows and has guests where he does interviews, but they're all related to the topic of personal branding and business.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: And the information that Mike shares is really, really good.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: He's a super great copywriter.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I love his material on content and writing and headlines and all the stuff that I like to geek out about.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: But what takes Mike's show and his whole approach to the next level is that he's just really funny.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: He's laid back, uh, he's self-deprecating, which I relate to.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: That's kind of my approach to life a little bit.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And it's just a fun show to listen to.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Whenever you listen to Mike's podcast, you feel like you're sitting down with a good friend over a Coke and just having a chat about life and about business.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And I just I just love that.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: That's really fun.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Now, I also recommend that you follow Mike on social media because he is a great combination of somebody who's helpful but also hilarious and has he has my sense of humor, which is a little bit warped, but it's really, really fun.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: And uh, I just love his approach to life.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: So if you'd like to uh check out his podcast, it's called Brand You Personal Branding.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: And you can also check out my recent interview with Mike Kim on episode 154 of this podcast.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Podcast number four on my top 15 list is the Creative Pen hosted by Joanna Penn.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I've been listening to The Creative Pen for many years.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: In fact, it's another it's another one of the podcasts that I started listening to as soon as I started to get into podcasts years ago.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Joanna Penn is a fiction author, but she's really well known for her nonfiction books for authors on marketing, business, productivity, and lots and lots of other topics.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: But it's all revolved around writing.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I actually think that I own all of her books for writers.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I don't own all of her fiction books, but I'm pretty sure I have all of her books for writers.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, she is like a uh a workhorse when it comes to cranking out books.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: It's just amazing the amount of stuff that she cranks out for writers, and it's so good.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: It's like courses, books, podcasts.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's just absolutely amazing the stuff that she puts out that is so helpful, and it has been such a such enormous help for me on a personal level.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: So on her podcast, Joanna does weekly interviews with authors and other experts in order to help writers do more of what they love.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I'd say she is she's absolutely one of the foremost authorities on independent publishing, and her books, courses, podcasts, and other material, it's basically a one-stop shop for everything that you need as an indie author.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Now, Joanna also has a podcast on Patreon where she answers reader questions.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: That's and you can only get that podcast if you support her on Patreon.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: And I've been a supporter of that show for the last two or three years.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: You can submit questions and she answers those questions, and it's a really, really a good investment.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: So that is the Creative Pin hosted by Joanna Penn.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Number five is the Portfolio Life Podcast, hosted by Jeff Goines.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Now, this might seem like a unique title for a show, the portfolio life.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: However, that title really gets to the heart of what I feel is most unique about Jeff.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Jeff has a variety of interests and does a number of different things to help people become better writers and creatives.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: In other words, it means having a portfolio of skills, outlets, and services that are connected to your work.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Jeff has a really unique perspective on life, on writing, and on art.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: And Jeff is one of those people who could do a podcast on any topic, and I would probably listen to it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't even care what he's talking about.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I just love his perspective on life.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: And also, I would encourage you to connect with Jeff on Facebook and follow what he's doing on social media because Jeff asks, of all the people that I'm connected with on social media, I mean, not like I'm some big networking maven or anything, but but I do follow a lot of people and uh try to be very intentional about building relationships.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: I would say of all the people that I'm friends with on Facebook or that I'm connected with, Jeff asks the most insightful, interesting questions.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: And I love that.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: He's just a very curious person, and um, you know, if you spend time around Jeff, you're going to be uh a smarter and more curious person.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: And I think that's that's pretty cool.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: So uh check out Jeff's show, The Portfolio Life.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Also, you can check out my recent interview with Jeff here on this podcast.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: That was episode 177.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, moving on, podcast number six is Get Paid to Write, hosted by Nick Pavlitas.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Nick is a former attorney who began building a ghostwriting business a few years ago, and it has since become a highly successful agency that helps people with books, articles, social media, and book marketing.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And Nick's podcast is all about how to get paid to write, as the title suggests, and it's also sponsored by Ghostwriting School, which is the training arm of his business.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Now, I've been through the Ghostwriter School course, and it is excellent.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: You can it truly is excellent, and I'll say something else about that in a second.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: You can check out uh Ghostwriters School at ghostwriterschool.com, and man, it is just so, so great.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: And I can tell you without reservation, and I'm being 100% transparent here, that going through his course and getting me started with ghostwriting has literally changed my life.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: It's brought extra income to my family, it's given me a clear focus for my business, uh, it's introduced me to some really cool people, and I honestly cannot recommend it enough.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you're gonna spend some money on a course and you're interested in ghostwriting or building a writing business, I'm gonna recommend that you don't think twice about it and you just invest the money in ghostwriter school because if you follow what Nick says and you follow his guidance, um you're gonna get a massive return on your investment.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Um, you're gonna get your investment in that course many times over if you just follow his advice, if you want to be a ghostwriter.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: So, back to the podcast.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: That's my little plug, by the way.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Back to the podcast.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Nick is not only a great writer and a great teacher, but he's also just an all-around great guy.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: I like spending time around Nick, and he also has a free group on Facebook called Ghostwriter Growth.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: So if you're interested in building a ghostwriting business, check that out.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Also, check out ghostwriterschool.com.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Now, Nick has been on the show a couple times.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, I did a recent interview with him back on episode 167, and also a couple years ago, I did my first interview with Nick on episode 52 of the show.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Both of those are on ghostwriting.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Check those out if you're interested in ghostwriting.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's move on here.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Podcast number seven is the Write Your Book Podcast, hosted by my good friend, Jim Woods.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the biggest problems that we have as writers is that sometimes we just don't do the work.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: And Jim's podcast is honestly, it's the most practical resource that I know of when it comes to helping you actually writing and finishing your book.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Jim is a writing coach, he's an author and an editor, so he definitely knows all the tricks when it comes to actually getting your writing done.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Jim has been a really great friend for a long time, and Jim is just one of those guys that you want to have in your life.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, there are certain people you have in your life where you think about them and your immediate thought is that person makes me more successful.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: That person makes me a better human being.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: That person's inspiring.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And I think of all those things whenever I think of Jim Woods.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, Jim also edited my last book, The Artist Suitcase, and he did a great job with that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: And uh he's just helped me be a better, a better person and a better writer in more ways than I can count.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Now, I've also interviewed Jim a couple times on this show.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: You can check out those conversations on episodes 54 and also 127.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Podcast number eight is High Income Business Writing, hosted by Ed Gandia.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Ed is a highly successful business writer, and on his podcast, he breaks down strategies for making more income through your writing on his show.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And this is a great show if you truly want to take your business writing to the next level.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: The show is very, very focused on business writing, specifically like freelance writing for businesses, uh, which is why it's called high income business writing, obviously.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Um listen to it.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: It's really, really good.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: It's very practical.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, Ed is a great podcast host.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: I do have one caveat, though, that I'm going to throw in about this show, and that is it's one tiny reservation, and that is you should only listen to this show if you're somewhere that you can take notes.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And the reason is because this show is absolutely cram-packed with great information, and I find not just one, but several, many times dozens of things in every single episode that I need to write down and implement.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: So it's really that good.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: I would also recommend that you get on Ed's mailing list and you can go to b2blauncher.com.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: At least I'm pretty sure that's his website.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm rattling that off off the top of my head.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Um, if not, you can just Google uh Ed Gandia high income business writing, and that'll take you to the right place.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Anyway, get on his email list because he sends out really, really good stuff.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Like it, his free stuff is better than most people's page stuff.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: So definitely check that out.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Podcast number nine.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna cheat a little bit here, and I'm going to actually list two episodes or two podcasts on this number nine, and that's because they are hosted and produced by the same person, and that is my good friend Andy Storch.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: This is the talent development hot seat and the Andy Storch show.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Andy is a monster because he produces two really amazing podcasts.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: He's very consistent with his episodes, and they're always really, really good.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: So I consider that a pretty amazing feat, uh, if you ask me.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Andy is a talent development consultant and speaker, as well as being a podcaster and soon-to-be author.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: And these shows are all about personal and professional success.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: And even though I'm not in the talent development industry per se, I always learn something from his episodes.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: What really inspires me most about Andy is his continual self-improvement and his really infectious energy.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm recording this in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, so maybe infectious is really the wrong adjective.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: So sorry, Andy.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: But I only meant that in it in a good way.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: His energy is very, uh, you're gonna catch his enthusiasm.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Um if you spend some time around Andy, you're gonna be inspired, you're gonna be motivated to learn and to become just a better human being.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: And these shows really are gonna help you get into the right mindset for success.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: So remember at the beginning of this episode, I talked about the importance of mindset.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I think it's really important to listen to people and it and be around people who are going to help you develop your mindset.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: And Andy is absolutely one of those people.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: And if you'd like to hear my interview with Andy, you can check out episode 106 of this podcast.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Podcast number 10 is Morgan James Radio, hosted by Jodie Mayberry and David Hancock.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Morgan James is a publishing company that was founded by David Hancock.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: And Morgan James has a very unique publishing model, and they publish a lot of books by entrepreneurs and business leaders.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: It's a really, really wonderful company.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: And the Morgan James Radio Show features interviews with authors and thought leaders, and obviously it's very focused on books, writing, and business.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: I actually did an interview with Jody Mayberry on my show recently.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: You can check that out on episode 149.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: But if you're interested in learning more from established authors who are very successful, and particularly authors who are using books to build a business, you definitely want to check out Morgan James Radio.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Podcast number 11 is the big talk.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Hosted by Trisha Brook.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Trisha is a choreographer, director, and writer who helps others become excellent speakers.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: And if you ever want to speak on a TED stage, and if you're an author or a speaker or a coach or a consultant, you know that you want to get on a TED stage.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Trisha is absolutely the go-to person for this.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Her podcast features interviews with speakers, authors, and business leaders.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: And since speaking and writing are so intertwined, I consider this an essential podcast for anybody who is doing business writing.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Even if you don't consider yourself a speaker or you don't aspire to be a speaker or get onto a TED stage, you still need to listen to this show because it's going to help you to understand what's going on in the speaking world and therefore what's going on in the broader world of business and communication and I would say creative arts too, because Trisha is not just someone who helps people to become better speakers.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: She's also an extraordinarily successful creative person as well.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: If you want to hear more from Trisha, which I recommend that you do, of course, I would recommend checking out episode 88 of my show, where I did a really fun interview with Trisha.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Podcast number 12 is the Ray Edwards Show, hosted by Ray Edwards.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Ray is an author and a copywriter, and his show is a really fun mix of spiritual advice and copywriting and business advice as well.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: And it's just inspiring all around.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Ray has a unique perspective on life, and I love his show because I always learn something and I'm always going to get a different perspective on something that I thought I'd knew something about, but he's always going to give uh a twist to it.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: So if you're a person of faith who just wants uh a fresh perspective on business and money and writing and life, I'm going to really recommend you check out Ray's Podcast because it's super, super excellent.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Podcast number 13 is Self-Publishing School, hosted by Chandler Bolt.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: And this podcast features interviews with enormously successful authors.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: And it's kind of like having a front row seat where you can learn from some of the most well-known writers living today.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: And I love the emphasis and information about self-publishing.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: You know, we have a variety of options today as writers, and traditional publishers definitely offer a good choice for a lot of authors.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: But for most people, I think self-publishing is the best choice because then you own your intellectual property and you're in control of the whole process.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: So if you want a great approach around self-publishing, check out self-publishing school hosted by Chandler Bolt.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: In fact, let me bounce for a second back to uh I mentioned podcast number 10 was Morgan James Radio, and I mentioned the Morgan James Publishing Company.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: The reason I love them, one of the reasons, is because they have an approach where authors still own their intellectual property.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: It's very different than a traditional publishing company.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of interesting if you take Self-Publishing School and Morgan James Radio, those are two really wonderful podcasts about self-publishing.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check out both of those.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: All right, we're getting close to the end here.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: We've got a couple more to go.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Podcast number 14 is Create If Writing, hosted by Kirsten Oliphant.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Kirsten is a fiction author who has written a bunch of books and she really, really knows her stuff when it comes to marketing and building an author platform based around fiction.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: And I love the tagline of the show, which is helping you sell more books without being smarmy.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: And I have to say that's probably the only podcast description I've ever heard that uses the word smarmy, which in my book that automatically makes it a really cool podcast.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Kirsten also has a fantastic sense of humor as well as a very active Facebook group for writers.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: And if you just get on Facebook and type in create if writing, you'll come across that group, and I highly recommend that you jump into it because it's really, really good.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Whenever you listen to Kirsten's podcast, you get the sense that you're sitting down to coffee with her.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: She's a lot of fun, has a great sense of humor, but the show also has tons and tons of great information, particularly for self-publishing people.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: So definitely check that out.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Then finally, podcast number 15 is audio branding hosted by Jodi Krangle.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: This show is a great example of how you can take a niche area of expertise and turn it into something really special.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Jodi Krangle is a musician and a voiceover artist, and she's taken her knowledge of audio and created a compelling podcast about how we are influenced by sound.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: And this is a super important topic because we increasingly live in an audio-based world when it comes to writing.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: So we need to pay attention to this subject, and Jodi is somebody that you need to be following.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: By the way, you can hear my interview with Jodi on episode 162 of this podcast.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: And I also want to mention that if you need a great voiceover artist, make sure to get in touch with Jodi because she's super, she's a super pro and does a great job.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Well, I appreciate you sticking around.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I know this has kind of been a longer episode, and I know that's a lot of podcasts to uh to wade through 15 shows, but I'm going to tell you that I actually had 21 to begin with, and I thought, you know what, 21 maybe is overkills, I dialed it back to 15.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: So what I would recommend that you do is choose three of these shows and listen to an episode or two of each one and see if you like it and see if it meets your needs and um and it and it kind of jives with you.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: All of them are truly worth your time and attention, but I don't recommend listening to all of all the episodes of every podcast.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Just pick two or three and dive into them and uh and see if you like them.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: I personally have been impacted by each one of these shows and love them.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I hope that you check out some of them as well.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Well, what are some of your favorite podcasts on writing or business?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: I'd love to check some of those out.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: So feel free to let me know by shooting me a message on Twitter at Kent Sanders, or you can find me on Facebook at Kent Sanders as well, or just send me an email, Kent at KentSanders.net.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: I also, before I sign off for this episode, I want to say thank you to each of these podcasters for creating shows that have impacted me in very direct ways and for improving my life and making my life better because of the information and the inspiration that you share.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: And I hope that in some small way my podcast uh inspires you as well.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: So, you know, we we give and we receive.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: That's what it's all about when you're a writer and a content creator.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: All right, my friend, thank you so much for listening.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: And remember that you can find lots more resources for writers at KentSanders.net.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Until next time, remember that your writing has the power to change people's lives, and I will see you in the next episode.
