- 0:26SPEAKER_09: Hello guys.
- 0:27SPEAKER_07: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug Podcast.
- 0:29SPEAKER_07: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:30SPEAKER_07: I've got episode 267.
- 0:32SPEAKER_04: 267.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: I'm no longer a loser.
- 0:35SPEAKER_04: You are well, I mean, that's you.
- 0:39SPEAKER_04: You're no longer getting skunked.
- 0:41SPEAKER_07: That's true.
- 0:42SPEAKER_07: I won my first week of NFL fantasy.
- 0:46SPEAKER_07: And the sad part is I didn't even do anything.
- 0:50SPEAKER_07: I didn't change players or anything.
- 0:52SPEAKER_07: I just I just let it go.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: Sometimes it's the best that way.
- 0:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and uh, so now I am one in one in nine.
- 0:58SPEAKER_07: Nine.
- 0:58SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 0:59SPEAKER_07: One in nine.
- 1:00SPEAKER_07: You have the same record as Jude.
- 1:01SPEAKER_07: And I beat Eli.
- 1:02SPEAKER_07: Do I have the same record as Jude?
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_07: Because I beat him this week.
- 1:06SPEAKER_07: So am I still in last place?
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:08SPEAKER_07: I am.
- 1:09SPEAKER_07: Jude Jude is right above you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_07: Oh, that's interesting.
- 1:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_07: That's interesting.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I won and I dropped two places.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: I haven't figured that out.
- 1:17SPEAKER_07: It's all how they disperse the points.
- 1:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_07: I think, you know.
- 1:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's all the pointed points for imports against.
- 1:23SPEAKER_07: Right, whatever that means.
- 1:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 1:26SPEAKER_07: But yeah, I uh I told Elizabeth because I played him.
- 1:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_07: And I I beat Elizabeth this week.
- 1:32SPEAKER_07: And uh I said, I'm gonna talk about that on the podcast tonight.
- 1:35SPEAKER_07: Really?
- 1:36SPEAKER_07: Yes, really.
- 1:37SPEAKER_07: So it's newsworthy.
- 1:39SPEAKER_07: It is, it is newsworthy.
- 1:40SPEAKER_07: And um, so you're playing Myra this week?
- 1:43SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:43SPEAKER_07: So Myra is not playing currently because so well, A, she's eleven and she thought she wanted to do it, and she now she's already lost interest.
- 1:56SPEAKER_07: She's already lost interest.
- 1:57SPEAKER_07: I mean, I think she would have interest if I reminded her, oh, you're gonna you know update your lineup and blah blah blah blah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_07: But she is is accessing the app on uh an old iPad.
- 2:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 2:10SPEAKER_07: Which the operating system um it's it's a it's an old iPad.
- 2:16SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 2:16SPEAKER_07: So the operating system can't be can't be updated.
- 2:20SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 2:21SPEAKER_07: And the the current operating system doesn't support the app.
- 2:25SPEAKER_07: Ah so she has she has the old app, so anytime she goes in to do anything, it crashes.
- 2:31SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 2:32SPEAKER_07: So she's she's currently stuck with her lineup, whether they're on a buy or or whether they're injured or you know, whatever.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: So well it's worked for Joe Co for years, so right.
- 2:43SPEAKER_07: You know, so it's it's kind of hands-off for her, so you might have pretty good luck.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Stranger things have happened.
- 2:50SPEAKER_07: So uh so I yeah, I did take a trip this weekend.
- 2:54SPEAKER_07: Um and because the boys, you know, they just finished soccer season and they got less than a week and now they're in basketball.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: Of course they are.
- 3:02SPEAKER_07: It's travel basketball because the the school uh basketball season does doesn't start until kind of like toward the end of November.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: But isn't there a rule that you can't start practices before a certain time year?
- 3:18SPEAKER_07: There yes, there's a that's that's my my pipes.
- 3:22SPEAKER_07: I'll tell you about that in a second.
- 3:23SPEAKER_07: So um all kinds of stories.
- 3:26SPEAKER_07: I know.
- 3:26SPEAKER_07: So there is a there's a hands-off um time period.
- 3:34SPEAKER_07: And that is in the summer, actually.
- 3:37SPEAKER_07: That's in the summer where you like from from July something to August something, you can't do anything like whatever.
- 3:45SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 3:46SPEAKER_07: School.
- 3:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah, school.
- 3:47SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 3:47SPEAKER_07: And this isn't school related.
- 3:49SPEAKER_07: This is travel, this is completely separate.
- 3:51SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 3:52SPEAKER_07: Um So they went down and um they played a game on they played two games on Saturday.
- 3:58SPEAKER_07: They won them both.
- 3:59SPEAKER_07: Hard fought games.
- 4:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: What'd they play?
- 4:01SPEAKER_07: Uh they've they started out with Washington Academy, who is a class C, and we thought was gonna be easy.
- 4:09SPEAKER_07: But these boys are rusty, you know, they haven't been playing basketball.
- 4:13SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 4:13SPEAKER_07: And uh they won, but it was hard fought.
- 4:18SPEAKER_07: Oh, very well, I should say shouldn't say that.
- 4:22SPEAKER_07: The first game was hard fought in the first half, and then they came out in the second half and dominated, and they beat Washington Academy by twenty, twenty-five points.
- 4:31SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: Um the next So they just kind of you know, got you know, got into the groove.
- 4:37SPEAKER_07: Got into the groove.
- 4:38SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 4:39SPEAKER_07: Um and then uh they played Madomic, and that was hard fought as well, and that was the uh tougher one, that was a closer, closer win.
- 4:48SPEAKER_07: Um but because and this is the whole points thing what they do in sports, I guess.
- 4:54SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 4:54SPEAKER_07: Uh because they beat Washington Academy by so many points, they were number one.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:01SPEAKER_07: They went in number one on Sunday.
- 5:03SPEAKER_07: So that so they played two games on Saturday and they were ranked number one, even though there were other teams that in a different, you know, classes or whatever groups that were probably better than they were.
- 5:15SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 5:15SPEAKER_07: And then uh Sunday they played Brewer in the quarterfinals of this tournament and um played very well, but Brewer beat them by not very much.
- 5:26SPEAKER_07: Um and I think they play Brewer during the regular season now.
- 5:29SPEAKER_07: It's a new it's a new because they they've changed all the changes all the classes.
- 5:34SPEAKER_07: Yes, and it's uh yeah, and so they're playing most of the teams that they play are downstate.
- 5:39SPEAKER_07: They don't they don't play anybody around here.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: Or there's nobody up here to play.
- 5:42SPEAKER_07: Right except Caribou.
- 5:44SPEAKER_07: Well, Caribou, Fort Kent.
- 5:45SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, Fort Kent, I suppose.
- 5:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 5:47SPEAKER_07: Um but yeah, so I don't know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_07: Maybe we still play Fort Kent.
- 5:50SPEAKER_07: I'm not sure.
- 5:50SPEAKER_07: I'm not sure how that works.
- 5:52SPEAKER_07: But so anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is because I I snuck out uh Sunday morning and uh Bull Moose opens at ten on Sunday.
- 6:02SPEAKER_07: Well, on every day.
- 6:03SPEAKER_07: And you were there at 10 01.
- 6:06SPEAKER_07: No, I had the matter of fact, you were knocking on the door.
- 6:08SPEAKER_07: I had to go unlock this! Well we went to so we went to church because we you know every time we go downstate we have to find a find a mass.
- 6:14SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 6:15SPEAKER_07: And so we went to church Sunday morning.
- 6:17SPEAKER_07: Um their game was at one.
- 6:19SPEAKER_07: So we get back to the hotel, it's like it's like 9 40.
- 6:22SPEAKER_07: And I said, uh I gotta run an errand.
- 6:27SPEAKER_07: Do you mind if I do you mind if I gotta run an errand?
- 6:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah, as long as you're back, we gotta check out at 11.
- 6:33SPEAKER_07: And I was like, okay.
- 6:34SPEAKER_07: So I went, you know.
- 6:36SPEAKER_07: And I didn't I didn't sit and wait, but as soon as it was like 10 o'clock, I was like, okay, well, I'm gone, I'm out of here.
- 6:42SPEAKER_07: I best go.
- 6:43SPEAKER_07: But I had to be back to the hotel for like 10 35, 10 40 so we could pack up and check out and stuff.
- 6:49SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 6:49SPEAKER_07: So I only had a few minutes and I picked up a couple albums that I didn't have, surprisingly that I didn't have.
- 6:55SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 6:55SPEAKER_07: This one's not surprising.
- 6:56SPEAKER_07: Uh Joe Botamasa, Driving Towards Daylight.
- 6:58SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 6:59SPEAKER_07: Uh great album.
- 7:00SPEAKER_07: Uh listened to it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_07: Um, but I didn't have it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_07: This one, uh, it's surprising that I didn't have it, and I didn't even know it existed, actually.
- 7:10SPEAKER_07: It's Kenny Wayne Shepherd band, Live On.
- 7:13SPEAKER_07: It's a it's a it's a studio album.
- 7:15SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 7:16SPEAKER_07: Which uh I have looks fairly old.
- 7:18SPEAKER_07: I've Lead Better Heights, I have um the one that has uh um Slowride and um well Blue on Black.
- 7:29SPEAKER_07: I had that one.
- 7:30SPEAKER_07: This one was in between those two.
- 7:31SPEAKER_07: I didn't I didn't realize this was like his second album, I think.
- 7:34SPEAKER_04: And I was about to say it looks old.
- 7:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_07: Uh I'll tell you the year.
- 7:39SPEAKER_07: Because I'm old, I have to take off my glasses.
- 7:41SPEAKER_07: 99.
- 7:42SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I was gonna say so.
- 7:44SPEAKER_07: I'm pretty sure it's his second album, but surprisingly, I did not own it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_07: So now I do.
- 7:50SPEAKER_07: Well, good.
- 7:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_07: So there's that.
- 7:52SPEAKER_07: That's a plus.
- 7:53SPEAKER_07: That's a plus.
- 7:54SPEAKER_07: Uh I know I'm talking away here, but I have to get all this out.
- 7:57SPEAKER_07: Um so today, um I told you about my furnace.
- 8:03SPEAKER_07: Let's I won't go into it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_07: Let's just say that now my furnace is working in the Now you have heat in the entire house.
- 8:10SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 8:10SPEAKER_07: We haven't had that for a long time.
- 8:12SPEAKER_04: Now you don't have the little house on the prairie situation.
- 8:15SPEAKER_07: Right, exactly.
- 8:16SPEAKER_04: Um start the fire.
- 8:19SPEAKER_07: But they they were supposed to come this morning um uh between eight and twelve.
- 8:25SPEAKER_07: And they sh they called about they were gonna come between eight and twelve, so we cleaned and everything, and um I wasn't gonna be here because I was at practice for the high school music.
- 8:36SPEAKER_07: I'll tell you about that in a second.
- 8:38SPEAKER_07: And so I kept checking in with my wife.
- 8:41SPEAKER_07: Are they there yet?
- 8:41SPEAKER_07: Are they there yet?
- 8:42SPEAKER_07: Nope.
- 8:42SPEAKER_07: I thought you said they were coming.
- 8:44SPEAKER_07: They told me.
- 8:45SPEAKER_07: So I I got done with rehearsal, came home, it's about 12 30, they called.
- 8:50SPEAKER_07: Uh, this is the earliest we can get you in, we'll be right over.
- 8:53SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 8:54SPEAKER_07: So it took him 15 minutes, you know, he just to do what he had to do, and now uh we're fixed for the winter.
- 9:03SPEAKER_07: Nice! Yeah, so worth it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was worth it.
- 9:06SPEAKER_07: So, musical rehearsal.
- 9:09SPEAKER_07: I feel so out of my element.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: You guys are doing Matilda, right?
- 9:17SPEAKER_07: We're doing Matilda.
- 9:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_07: And, you know, I don't I don't know that John listens to the podcast.
- 9:22SPEAKER_07: Uh no, yeah, I don't think he does.
- 9:23SPEAKER_07: So I can say this.
- 9:25SPEAKER_07: I hate the music.
- 9:28SPEAKER_07: They love it.
- 9:29SPEAKER_07: They love it, they think it's awesome.
- 9:30SPEAKER_07: Um, but I'm not a fan of musicals.
- 9:32SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 9:33SPEAKER_07: And this is this is a quintessential musical.
- 9:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: I mean it's it's uh Well, this is one of those musicals that even I don't like.
- 9:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_07: So um it's I know it's a movie, but I didn't even Well, apparently this is hasn't is nothing like the movie.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: Oh so it's different.
- 9:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's different.
- 9:50SPEAKER_07: But uh and did you know there was another one they made a remake?
- 9:53SPEAKER_07: Uh Netflix did a remake of Matilda.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: Netflix makes a remake of everything.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 9:59SPEAKER_07: And they always suck.
- 10:00SPEAKER_07: So I don't know.
- 10:00SPEAKER_07: I didn't realize that.
- 10:01SPEAKER_07: But anyway.
- 10:03SPEAKER_07: Um so you know, I'm in I'm I'm in the pit band with um uh well they're all music teachers.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:12SPEAKER_07: Right?
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: And they all you got John and Sarah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: John and Sarah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 10:17SPEAKER_07: Jenna.
- 10:17SPEAKER_07: Oh, Jenna's in it.
- 10:18SPEAKER_07: Jenna's Jenna's uh switching off between bass clarinet, clarinet, and saxophone.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 10:23SPEAKER_07: Right?
- 10:24SPEAKER_07: Sean Diet.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: Oh, Sean's in it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_07: Is playing flute and saxophone, and I think he's playing clarinet as well.
- 10:31SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 10:32SPEAKER_07: Um Rebecca Willie, who's a uh Oh, the music teacher of Caribou.
- 10:35SPEAKER_07: Caribou, yep.
- 10:36SPEAKER_07: She's playing um organ and synthesizer.
- 10:38SPEAKER_07: And it's she does it's awesome.
- 10:40SPEAKER_07: It really adds to it.
- 10:41SPEAKER_07: Pat Bragdon on drums.
- 10:42SPEAKER_07: Mm-hmm.
- 10:43SPEAKER_07: Me on guitar.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 10:45SPEAKER_07: Um they all read music.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, mostly they that's that's the thing.
- 10:51SPEAKER_04: I I think that's why you really hate musicals, because you don't read music and therefore you're just like, well, oh look, it's it's in Arabic.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: That's so true.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 11:02SPEAKER_08: And and John is so too bad I don't speak farsi.
- 11:06SPEAKER_07: John is so good about it, too, because it's like um A, I don't play for half the musical.
- 11:13SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, that's you know, I play on certain songs.
- 11:15SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm about to say in that kind of musical, the guitar would just be an accompanying thing.
- 11:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's just kind of like a rhythm thing, you know, which is fine.
- 11:21SPEAKER_07: And when it shows the chords, I'm golden.
- 11:24SPEAKER_07: Although I counting time is hard for me uh when it's 1285 74.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they should see see that's like dream theater rush.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, I totally get that.
- 11:37SPEAKER_07: And and and so I'm looking at it and I'm like, it's like 12-8, and then we'll stop, and John's like, Well, I'm counting that in two.
- 11:44SPEAKER_07: What?
- 11:45SPEAKER_07: Or I'm I'm counting that in four.
- 11:47SPEAKER_08: But it doesn't say four, it says twelve.
- 11:49SPEAKER_08: You know, what sorcery is this?
- 11:52SPEAKER_07: But it's so he's so good about it because you know, when there's chords, I can I'm playing along and and I got through it.
- 12:00SPEAKER_07: Um, but there are like notes like runs that I'm supposed to be doing.
- 12:07SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 12:08SPEAKER_07: And you know, there's a so there's one at the where one a run starts the song, right?
- 12:13SPEAKER_07: And the keyboards are doing it too, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 12:16SPEAKER_07: And so we get to the end of it, and it's like, ah, that was really good.
- 12:18SPEAKER_07: Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 12:19SPEAKER_07: And he says, There's an electric guitar part at the beginning of that, right?
- 12:24SPEAKER_07: It's like, yes, there is.
- 12:25SPEAKER_07: There may not be during the musical.
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: I might I might have volume problems.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: Quote unquote.
- 12:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I uh because I and I I just got so lost in myself because I'm watching this and I'm and I'm trying to keep up, and I'm just like so depressed in the middle of this whole thing, you know, because it's like I can't.
- 12:47SPEAKER_07: I'm looking, you're absolutely right.
- 12:49SPEAKER_07: It's in Arabic.
- 12:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_07: I I'm looking at that, and I can I can look at it and I can go, okay, so that's that's a D, that's a B flat.
- 12:58SPEAKER_07: Oh wait, that's a B flat, but it's also flat in the time signature, so it's a double flat, which means it's a sharp, right?
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: And you're just like, Yeah.
- 13:10unknown: Right.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Uh my brain hurts.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 13:14SPEAKER_07: And meanwhile, meanwhile, Becca and Sarah are like, oh, it's like Yeah, yeah, I'm sure.
- 13:20SPEAKER_07: I'm like, oh, this is so depressing.
- 13:22SPEAKER_07: And um, we're gonna get through it, you know.
- 13:24SPEAKER_07: And it was it was just the first rehearsal today, and and you know, I'll I'll keep up as best I can.
- 13:29SPEAKER_07: But um with what I did today.
- 13:32SPEAKER_04: Wait, today was the first rehearsal?
- 13:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_07: For you, yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_07: For well, for all of them.
- 13:36SPEAKER_07: It was the first pit band rehearsal, eight o'clock this morning.
- 13:39SPEAKER_07: Well see, John's been doing it for John is John is the musical director of the play, of the musical.
- 13:45SPEAKER_07: So he works with the kids.
- 13:46SPEAKER_07: He and Sarah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_07: So he and Sarah they get together and they work with the kids and the singing.
- 13:51SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 13:52SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay.
- 13:52SPEAKER_07: So they do all that.
- 13:53SPEAKER_07: But this was the first with all of the okay, I got you now.
- 13:57SPEAKER_07: Not the kids.
- 13:58SPEAKER_07: The kids weren't there.
- 13:58SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 13:59SPEAKER_07: It was just the band.
- 14:00SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 14:00SPEAKER_07: Just a playthrough of the of the music.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 14:03SPEAKER_04: Because I talk to John every time I'm up there, and you know, I usually hang out with him during my lunch.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 14:08SPEAKER_07: I don't have to be a big one.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: He's just like, yeah, you know, as soon as school's out, he's he's hitting the road.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: He's like going to practice, and then you practice till like six.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_04: Then he's gotta be back to school the next day, and I'm like, dude.
- 14:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_07: Musical season is is not fun.
- 14:22SPEAKER_07: No.
- 14:23SPEAKER_07: You know, this is uh it they lucked out that Jenna is involved in this one, so she's gonna get to see him.
- 14:29SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah, both I at least during the rehearsal some of the rehearsals and the and the performances and stuff like that.
- 14:34SPEAKER_07: So but yeah, it was nice of him to ask, you know, and then it'll be it'll be fine.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it'll be good.
- 14:40SPEAKER_07: I'm not uh I'm not concerned about it, but I do I do feel so out of place, you know.
- 14:45SPEAKER_07: Um they're all good about it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: See, now you know how I feel when I play with you guys.
- 14:49SPEAKER_07: No, I don't.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: I'm just like, hmm, oh, what you what are you guys doing on the music?
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: You can keep are you are you reading music?
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: I got a tambourine.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: Can I play with you guys?
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: I'll hit the congas.
- 15:00SPEAKER_07: Let me say something about Pat Bragdon.
- 15:04SPEAKER_07: Pat Bragdon is reading drum music.
- 15:07SPEAKER_07: I'm sure yeah, percussion music.
- 15:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 15:09SPEAKER_07: It's quite amazing to watch to watch him do that, you know.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: I have I have a book at home of uh rush uh drum music.
- 15:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: I it's like nope.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: I I could read, you know, I could read the stuff they've found on, you know, the Roswell alien crash easier than I could read that.
- 15:28SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 15:29SPEAKER_08: Yes, I do.
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 15:30SPEAKER_07: I know what you're saying.
- 15:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so I mean that was that was my week.
- 15:34SPEAKER_07: Are you still subbing?
- 15:35SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 15:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: Um same grades?
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: Nah, they I've been all over the place.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: I I I I've equated it to uh introducing a new species to an ecosystem.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: So, you know, it's like, oh, we're overpopulated with deer here.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: We better put a wolf in here.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: Because a lot of especially with like the middle school and the high school, yeah, because they don't know how to quite detect me because the band kids know who I am, right?
- 16:05SPEAKER_04: But nobody else does.
- 16:06SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 16:06SPEAKER_04: So when I'm when I'm in one of their classrooms, I'll know I know who the band kids are and they know me, but everybody else is kind of like, who is this guy?
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: Why do they all know him and we don't?
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: I don't understand why.
- 16:20SPEAKER_07: Well, I will say um what I saw in the thread the other day was was really pretty cool.
- 16:26SPEAKER_07: And we are recording this on Veterans Day.
- 16:29SPEAKER_07: This is Tuesday, the 11th of November.
- 16:31SPEAKER_07: And I know I said it to on Facebook today, but I'll say it again.
- 16:35SPEAKER_07: Thank you for your service.
- 16:36SPEAKER_07: Thank you.
- 16:36SPEAKER_07: I appreciate it.
- 16:36SPEAKER_07: Uh U.S.
- 16:37SPEAKER_07: Marine Corps.
- 16:38SPEAKER_07: Um, but uh the the kids at at the school or the school itself included you in the Veterans Day uh Yeah, uh they uh what was it last week?
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: Michelle was like, Doug, we need a picture because the second grade wants to include you in the in the the show.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: So I I emailed her a picture.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: I didn't I don't I didn't know how it was gonna turn out.
- 17:00SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:00SPEAKER_04: But Joel sent the slide sent the slide.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: I thought that was cool.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: Mr.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Doug.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Mr.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: Doug.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: That's what they call me.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: And then it's like, hey, it's Mr.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: Doug.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: So you know, I was just like, I was like, oh, that's that's so cool because I I was gonna go to that one.
- 17:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but Mars Hill was having their veteran day.
- 17:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: So I went with dad to that.
- 17:21SPEAKER_07: I would too.
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: I don't think it was I don't know, I don't know how the Ashland one went compared to the Mars Hill one went.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: Because like the Mars Hill one, the band didn't play.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: Oh they they had like for like you know how they do like I don't know if Prescott did anything.
- 17:39SPEAKER_07: No, we didn't do anything.
- 17:39SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 17:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_04: So we should.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: They they they played like they did a song like where they played all the songs of all the services.
- 17:47SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: And you stood when your when your service song came on.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: And it was on, it was from YouTube.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: And I was like, it's kind of lame.
- 17:57SPEAKER_07: Like a DJ type thing?
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: It was it was like kids they were playing the music and kids were like singing the you know the verses.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: And I was like, oh, okay.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's it was good, but I mean it wasn't like I John had his kids playing had the band kids playing the thing.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it was really good because I sat in on a couple of the rehearsals and they were really good at it.
- 18:19SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: And then um I would I I got kind of ticked off because I'm sitting there.
- 18:26SPEAKER_07: In the Mars Hill one.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: In the Mars Hill one, yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: Um I was sitting there and there's a there's a few Marines in town that go to this thing.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_04: And we all know each other.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: We talk.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: But there was one guy I'd never seen before.
- 18:44SPEAKER_04: And he brought like his wife and he had like four kids or something like that.
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: And he was Marine, supposedly.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: Well, it's always tradition in the Marine Corps when the Marine hymn is played, you stand up and you're standing at attention.
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: All the other services were doing it, like the Army, the Navy, Air Force.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: And this guy didn't stand up.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: No, he stood up, but he was dancing the entire time.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, what is this guy doing?
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: And I could see dancing to the Marine.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, yeah, he was just like shaking his butt and trying to act like a fool, and I'm like, what is this guy's problem?
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: And I could see out of the corner of my eye, this uh this guy, this well, he's another Marine.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: He he retired as a major, so he's like up there.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I could see he was sitting almost like two rows behind this guy, and I could just see him like tensing up, and his wife was like grabbing his arm.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: So I was like, okay, I'm glad it's not just me then, right?
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: But uh I don't I don't know what the guy's issue was because they introduced everybody individually, and when he stood up, he did like this over-exaggerated bow.
- 19:59SPEAKER_07: And I'm like, what is your issue, man?
- 20:01SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 20:02SPEAKER_07: Just attention, looking for attention.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I but I don't know.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: I don't want to say he's an attention hug, because he might have it might be a PTSD thing.
- 20:11SPEAKER_07: Could be, yeah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: And he's that that's just like a coping thing.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: His kids were there?
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, all of it.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: Maybe he was.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: Maybe he was entertaining his kids.
- 20:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it could be.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: But it was just it was just very to me, it was very inappropriate.
- 20:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: But anyway, that was but other other than that, it was nice.
- 20:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: You know, so I um I got to talk to a lot of the teachers.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: They were all like, oh, you're subbing up an ashlight.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: Go what are you gonna sub here?
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was like a shark attack.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: I was like, I was like, whoa, okay.
- 20:39SPEAKER_07: Well, it's funny because uh I'll take I take my daughter to school every morning, and she knows that she's gonna have a sub one day or whatever.
- 20:48SPEAKER_07: And she'll be she'll be like, Is Doug our sub?
- 20:51SPEAKER_07: I'm like, No, I I don't think so.
- 20:53SPEAKER_07: I don't think he's filled out the paperwork.
- 20:55SPEAKER_07: But every you know, is Doug our sub?
- 20:56SPEAKER_07: No, I not today.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't think Joel will let me go.
- 21:01SPEAKER_07: You've been working every day?
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Not I I I could if I wanted to, but I don't.
- 21:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:06SPEAKER_07: How many days a week do you work?
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: Three or four, whatever I want to work.
- 21:09SPEAKER_07: Really?
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: They don't care.
- 21:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_07: That's the beauty of it.
- 21:13SPEAKER_07: But do they so I guess my question is what I do is like Fridays.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: Michelle will be like, hey, what are you available next week?
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: And I'll like, okay, I'm available, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: And then I come in on those days, and that's it.
- 21:22SPEAKER_07: So you come in and they you just go where they tell you to go.
- 21:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:25SPEAKER_07: That's cool.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's it's really nice.
- 21:27SPEAKER_04: It's I like having the that freedom.
- 21:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: I'm not tied down to one place or one thing, and yeah, you know, it's a little nerve-wracking not knowing what you're gonna do that day.
- 21:38SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: But like last Thursday, I was the librarian.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: They were like, No talking.
- 21:47SPEAKER_04: Michelle was like, You're gonna be Roxanne.
- 21:48SPEAKER_04: I'm like, who's Roxanne?
- 21:50SPEAKER_04: And they're like, They're librarian.
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh, oh.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: I dude, I literally I had to, I had, I had, I had half an hour.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Or the kindergarten kids.
- 22:02SPEAKER_04: We read a story.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: I read them a story, like you know, did the whole picture thing.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: That's so awesome.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: And did and did voices.
- 22:08SPEAKER_08: That's so awesome.
- 22:09SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 22:10SPEAKER_04: Then they had an activity where they where they had to color a turkey.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: Holy freaking crap.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: All of a sudden it turned into a little tiny prison riot.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Except all the all the inmates were super cute and like crayons.
- 22:23SPEAKER_04: I wanted the brown.
- 22:25SPEAKER_04: Oh then we're all like, oh, this is how do you spell policeman?
- 22:29SPEAKER_04: I'm like, what?
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: And it was just like all of them at the same time.
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: You know, crayons were getting broken.
- 22:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, I want the red.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, holy freaking crap.
- 22:41SPEAKER_04: And I was only with them for half an hour.
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: And after that, I was like, holy crap, I need I need like a cigar and some whiskey.
- 22:47SPEAKER_07: So you know what I did with my kindergarten this week?
- 22:50SPEAKER_07: It was um I I was kind of grabbing at straws uh as to what to do.
- 22:57SPEAKER_07: And actually, no, I did it was the first grade.
- 22:59SPEAKER_07: It was the first grade.
- 23:00SPEAKER_07: And I had uh hot cross buns.
- 23:04SPEAKER_07: Do you know how so I had them look at the board and I said, let's do that rhythm.
- 23:09SPEAKER_07: Ta ta ta sh right?
- 23:16SPEAKER_07: So they worked on that and they remembered it and blah, blah, blah.
- 23:19SPEAKER_07: And then I had some xylophones in the back of the room, and they're like, oh, we gotta play those.
- 23:22unknown: How are you gonna play those today?
- 23:24SPEAKER_07: You know, maybe.
- 23:26SPEAKER_07: Right?
- 23:28SPEAKER_07: And I only have so many xylophones, so I said, okay, so you two go to that one, you two go to that one.
- 23:33SPEAKER_07: Didn't give them any mallets.
- 23:35SPEAKER_07: Good jobs, didn't give them any mallets.
- 23:37SPEAKER_07: And I said, Okay, so here's what I want you to do: find the E, the D, and the C.
- 23:42SPEAKER_07: Okay, right there.
- 23:43SPEAKER_07: All right, I'm gonna give you a mallet.
- 23:44SPEAKER_07: I want you to practice playing this, you know, and I wrote it up C or E D C E D C right.
- 23:51SPEAKER_07: And you would have thought that I asked them to decode a nuclear bomb.
- 23:59SPEAKER_07: Um because and then I and then I went around and I gave them a mallet and like the partner, their partner, where's mine?
- 24:05SPEAKER_07: You're gonna share this one.
- 24:07SPEAKER_07: I don't get my own.
- 24:08SPEAKER_07: No, you don't get your own.
- 24:10SPEAKER_07: And then they had to take turns, and it's like, she's not letting me.
- 24:14SPEAKER_07: I mean, just it's just you know, mayhem.
- 24:17SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 24:17SPEAKER_07: She's not letting me have a turn.
- 24:18SPEAKER_07: Have you already had a turn?
- 24:20SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_07: Well, then it's her turn.
- 24:22unknown: But but Mr.
- 24:24SPEAKER_05: Motor.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_07: So yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, I tell you, it's just it was just it was just really funny, you know, ex-marine in a library.
- 24:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: But I had crayons, so it all worked out well.
- 24:38SPEAKER_07: So, you know.
- 24:39SPEAKER_07: Um speaking of Marines, I watched a movie today.
- 24:42SPEAKER_07: Uh oh.
- 24:42SPEAKER_07: And this would be this would be more it was a good movie.
- 24:45SPEAKER_07: It was a it was a what I like are small movies.
- 24:48SPEAKER_07: You know, not necessarily not blockbusters.
- 24:51SPEAKER_07: I like small movies with a good story, right?
- 24:53SPEAKER_07: You know, um, and and decent acting and stuff like that.
- 24:57SPEAKER_07: So I'd heard about this movie and I hadn't seen it.
- 24:59SPEAKER_07: So I I was like, I'm gonna watch this for Veterans Day, even though it's more of a Memorial Day movie, honestly.
- 25:05SPEAKER_07: Um, have you ever seen Taking Chance?
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: Oh my freaking word, Kevin Bacon.
- 25:10SPEAKER_07: Oh my word.
- 25:10SPEAKER_07: It's amazing.
- 25:11SPEAKER_07: Amazing movie.
- 25:13SPEAKER_07: I watched it this afternoon, and I was just the end of it, I was just like, you know, and my wife, of course, when you watch a movie with my wife, uh, she always just ruins it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_07: And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
- 25:27SPEAKER_07: Because, like halfway through the movie, she'll explain, well, this is what's gonna happen.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she has it all figured out.
- 25:33SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, she's got it all because she's really smart.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: Well, last time I went to the movie with your wife, it was Titanic, and we all knew it would ending anyway.
- 25:40SPEAKER_04: So I think I ruined it for her because of the whole movie.
- 25:46SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh, it's Obi-Wan Kenobi is the captain.
- 25:52SPEAKER_07: Anyway, so uh she said she had she's like, so he hasn't done anything.
- 25:58SPEAKER_07: Spoiler alert probably.
- 26:00SPEAKER_07: So he hasn't done anything with his life and he feels bad about it.
- 26:03SPEAKER_07: And and you know, uh so he he volunteers for this, you know, it's basically like an angel flight type thing, right?
- 26:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, he's escorting.
- 26:10SPEAKER_07: He's escorting the yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_07: Um and it's just hitting him that he didn't make that sacrifice, you know, that all these other soldiers did.
- 26:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_07: And it's really kind of weighing on him.
- 26:25SPEAKER_07: And um, so she's like because I kept saying, Kevin Bacon is playing this in such a way, you know, where he's keeping everything kind of close to the chest, and you don't know maybe the maybe is he related to the kid?
- 26:40SPEAKER_07: Is he, you know, like was he was the kid in his platoon?
- 26:44SPEAKER_07: Right, you know, that type of thing.
- 26:46SPEAKER_07: And I'm I'm just trying to figure this out.
- 26:47SPEAKER_07: And my wife, of course, like, no, he just feels guilty that that he didn't make that that sacrifice and go over there.
- 26:54SPEAKER_07: Right, you know.
- 26:56SPEAKER_07: And uh she was right.
- 26:59SPEAKER_07: You know, she was right.
- 27:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah, she nailed it.
- 27:01SPEAKER_07: And he got a golden globe for that, and I thought, well deserved.
- 27:04SPEAKER_07: I mean, well, I I had read that he got a golden globe, and then I was watching the movie, and I'm like, he's not really doing a whole lot of acting.
- 27:09SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's he isn't, but he was.
- 27:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:13SPEAKER_07: You're right.
- 27:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, he nailed that.
- 27:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but it was like towards the second half of the movie where all the emotion started hitting him.
- 27:19SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 27:19SPEAKER_07: And he played it so well.
- 27:21SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:22SPEAKER_07: But I yeah, I thought I I I knew you had seen that problem.
- 27:25SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but that was uh that's a that was an amazing movie.
- 27:28SPEAKER_07: I would I would recommend it.
- 27:29SPEAKER_07: It is yeah, I highly recommend that movie.
- 27:31SPEAKER_07: Uh probably more of a Memorial Day movie.
- 27:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would say it's well, I mean, I mean you could use it for anything, but I mean it's just the message of the movie.
- 27:38SPEAKER_07: It's it's it's it hits you.
- 27:40SPEAKER_07: And it's uh it it's a true story, or based on a true story.
- 27:44SPEAKER_04: I believe so.
- 27:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah, because they showed them at the end.
- 27:46SPEAKER_07: They showed Chance uh Phelps.
- 27:49SPEAKER_07: Chance Phelps can't remember private first class.
- 27:51SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 27:52SPEAKER_07: Uh anyway, good stuff.
- 27:54SPEAKER_07: I was uh sitting all alone on the couch wiping away tears this afternoon, so it's good.
- 27:59SPEAKER_07: Whatever.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: Uh who's cutting onions?
- 28:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 28:05SPEAKER_05: Are ninjas cutting onions in here again?
- 28:07SPEAKER_05: I'm not crying, you're crying.
- 28:09SPEAKER_07: Um big baby.
- 28:12SPEAKER_07: All right, so one thing I thought we would do when we actually get to the podcast today, because we Oh yeah, that's what we're doing.
- 28:21SPEAKER_04: Forgot.
- 28:21SPEAKER_07: We kind of just we just go and well, we just we just get telling stories.

- 42:13SPEAKER_07: Stanley Simmons body, let's see.
- 42:19SPEAKER_07: Um wait, is there even a version of the song?
- 42:28SPEAKER_07: If it's coming out December 5th, you would think that they would tease it, right?
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: Well, you think I'd have, you know, have something done.
- 42:37SPEAKER_07: There's nothing.
- 42:39SPEAKER_07: There's nothing.
- 42:41unknown: No.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: Handwritten lyrics giveaway.
- 42:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no, I don't want the handwritten lyrics.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: So they really don't have anything out.
- 42:49SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: Well.
- 42:50SPEAKER_07: And and I think they're putting the cart before the horse, um, thinking that people are gonna care about handwritten lyrics.
- 42:56SPEAKER_07: Well, I mean What if they don't even like the song?
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: I mean that's like me getting the you know lyric book for every nickelback song.
- 43:06SPEAKER_04: It ain't gonna happen.
- 43:07SPEAKER_08: Is it like that?
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: It is exactly like that.
- 43:10SPEAKER_04: Hey Doug, you want this uh autographed uh book from Nickelback about their lyrics, and uh we'll give you a hundred thousand dollars, and I'll be like, nope, I'm good.
- 43:21SPEAKER_07: Nah, bruh.

- 43:44SPEAKER_07: Paul Rogers was too ill to make the induction ceremony, but uh Simon Kirk was there.
- 43:49SPEAKER_07: Soundgarden, uh I guess they had a great bunch of great performances, including from Chris Cornell's daughter.

- 43:56SPEAKER_07: Um Cindy Lopper, the white stripes Warren Zevon, Chubby Checking.
- 44:00SPEAKER_07: And Joe Cocker.

- 44:26SPEAKER_07: Whatever you might think of the inductees.
- 44:29SPEAKER_07: Okay, this is a course according to ultimate classicrock.com.
- 44:33SPEAKER_07: Sly Stone passed away at 82 years old in June.
- 44:37SPEAKER_07: Stevie Wonder led a group of fantastic musicians through some of Sly's biggest hits.
- 44:42SPEAKER_07: Quest Love, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, Jennifer Hudson, Leon Thomas III, and others.
- 44:50SPEAKER_07: And that that's what started the show.
- 44:52SPEAKER_07: Alright.
- 44:53SPEAKER_07: Dave Letterman talked about Warren Zevon, because I don't know if you remember this, but Warren Zevon's last appearance as on Letterman.
- 45:01SPEAKER_07: Was on Letterman.
- 45:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 45:02SPEAKER_07: And I think his advice to everybody was to enjoy every sandwich.
- 45:07SPEAKER_07: That was yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_07: Um let's see, he brought along the very guitar that Zevon had given him prior to his 2003 passing.
- 45:15SPEAKER_07: Uh he says, you know, in music many pretend but Warren is a poet leaving few of life's vagaries unaddressed.
- 45:22SPEAKER_07: Um so yeah, that would have been pretty cool to see.
- 45:26SPEAKER_07: Which I probably will watch this, believe it or not.
- 45:28SPEAKER_07: Salt and Peppa's electrifying performance and push for regaining their masters.
- 45:34SPEAKER_07: Um I guess um they're having some legal issues with the record company there.

- 45:43SPEAKER_07: Plus, women sing Soundgarden.
- 45:46SPEAKER_07: Brandy Carlisle sang.
- 45:48SPEAKER_07: Um I know Nancy Wilson was playing guitar.
- 45:51SPEAKER_07: Um if I click on this, will it play it?
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: We haven't had any luck so far.
- 45:58SPEAKER_07: Of course it won't.
- 45:59SPEAKER_07: But Taylor Mommsen, this was kind of neat.
- 46:01SPEAKER_07: Um Jim Carrey came and did the induction of Soundgarden.
- 46:07SPEAKER_07: And in Taylor Mommsen, who's from um Pretty Reckless.
- 46:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:12SPEAKER_07: Um, this was their first time back together in I don't know, 25 years.
- 46:20SPEAKER_07: Because when Jim Carrey played The Grinch.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she was uh Cindy Lou.
- 46:24SPEAKER_07: She was Cindy Lou Who.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: So I don't know if was it has that been 25 years?
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: That's been a while.
- 46:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:30SPEAKER_07: So that was kind of neat.
- 46:31SPEAKER_07: Um that that's what I'm talking about right there.
- 46:34SPEAKER_07: Jim Carrey and Taylor Mumps and Reunite.
- 46:36SPEAKER_07: Uh Jack White's poem for what Meg White.
- 46:40SPEAKER_07: Um these are I'm not gonna go into too much detail.
- 46:43SPEAKER_07: Um 21 Pilots do Seven Nation Army.
- 46:46SPEAKER_07: Uh Chapel Roan's Incredible Outfit homage to Cindy Lauper.
- 46:50SPEAKER_07: Nobody cares.
- 46:51SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 46:53SPEAKER_07: Ugly.
- 46:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_07: Cindy Lauper performs with an all-female band, Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
- 46:59SPEAKER_07: Uh she had uh Gina Shock of the Go-Gos, Lisa Coleman on keyboards, um uh Ray.
- 47:06SPEAKER_07: Who's Ray?
- 47:07SPEAKER_07: Oh, uh and Avril Levine is there as well.
- 47:10SPEAKER_07: Cool.
- 47:10SPEAKER_07: Arousing conclusion with little help from my friends.
- 47:13SPEAKER_07: Brian Adams uh talked about Joe Cocker.
- 47:16SPEAKER_07: Uh it's just so weird.
- 47:20SPEAKER_07: We had uh Joe Cocker on last week's um Wall of Tunes.
- 47:27SPEAKER_07: And right last week, I think it was last week.
- 47:30SPEAKER_07: Was it last week?
- 47:31SPEAKER_07: Might have been.
- 47:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 47:33SPEAKER_07: And then and then he's on he's inducted into the wrong.
- 47:37SPEAKER_07: We knew it was coming.
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: That he was yeah, we seem to be we seem to be prophetic.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: Yes, because because when we talk about Kiss Ace Ace Freely died later that week.
- 47:46SPEAKER_04: And then when we talked about the queen.
- 47:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she died.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: She died.
- 47:49SPEAKER_04: It's like, oh man.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: So is Joe Cocker okay?
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: No, he's been dead a long time.
- 47:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, so that's not our fault.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: Is Joe Cocker okay?
- 48:06SPEAKER_08: I forgot he died.
- 48:07SPEAKER_08: I know you know you did.
- 48:09SPEAKER_08: That's funny.
- 48:11SPEAKER_08: Well, at least at least it wasn't our fault.
- 48:13SPEAKER_08: It was the way you said it.
- 48:14SPEAKER_08: Is Joe Cocker okay?
- 48:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, that was classic.
- 48:19SPEAKER_08: That was classic.
- 48:20SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean uh technically he is.
- 48:22SPEAKER_08: It was.
- 48:23SPEAKER_08: It was last week.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, there we go.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: We did it.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: No, last week was the cars.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: That was the week before.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: What did I put the cars then?
- 48:29SPEAKER_04: Oh, I borrowed it.
- 48:30SPEAKER_07: Oh, that's why.
- 48:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_07: That's why.
- 48:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was two weeks ago.
- 48:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:33SPEAKER_07: Anyway.
- 48:34SPEAKER_07: Um anyway, uh, I'm probably gonna watch that when I get a chance, just to see, just to see the Joe Cocker thing.
- 48:41SPEAKER_07: Oh, sure, yeah.
- 48:42SPEAKER_07: And I think Bad Company had uh some pretty great uh performances as well.
- 48:46SPEAKER_07: People sitting in with the with the band.
- 48:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:48SPEAKER_07: Um when I get a chance, I'm gonna watch those as well.
- 48:52SPEAKER_07: So that's all I had, I think, uh for you know, kind of hanging out with the um what is this?
- 49:03SPEAKER_07: A lot of books.
- 49:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_07: Oh, neighborhood books.
- 49:06SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 49:07SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 49:07SPEAKER_07: Oh, Justin Good came to read and talk to our uh at our Veterans Day story time.
- 49:12SPEAKER_07: I think it's so cool that uh you know, neighborhood books has been doing a lot of a lot of community things like that.
- 49:19SPEAKER_07: And I think it's it's cool that that there's somebody doing so not just for Veterans Day, but for other things as well.
- 49:25SPEAKER_07: Um and they're promoting it as well.
- 49:26SPEAKER_07: Well, it's nice to have a bookstore.
- 49:28SPEAKER_07: It is.
- 49:29SPEAKER_07: It is where you can go in and actually like peruse books.
- 49:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 49:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 49:34SPEAKER_07: Like in the good old days.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: I mean I mean you can do that at Bull Moose, but the selection's kinda.
- 49:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it is.
- 49:40SPEAKER_07: It is it's hit or miss.
- 49:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_07: But I was um I was talking to um a guy, a friend of mine at uh my oh Myra had her uh blue white basketball game last night.
- 49:51SPEAKER_07: Uh and it's kind of a cool thing that they do.
- 49:55SPEAKER_07: So it's middle school.
- 49:56SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_07: And they have they have two teams at the middle school, uh, for both boys and girls.
- 50:00SPEAKER_07: They have a white team and they have a blue team.
- 50:01SPEAKER_07: Uh, because there's so many kids that try out.
- 50:03SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 50:04SPEAKER_07: And they have two coaches and and everything.
- 50:06SPEAKER_07: And it's kind of a tradition that the blue plays plays against white, and you know.
- 50:11SPEAKER_07: And but this like last night, they played at the high school in the big high school gym.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 50:19SPEAKER_07: And they had consent it was like a varsity game.
- 50:23SPEAKER_07: So much so that the you know the scoreboard, they put their name up there.
- 50:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 50:28SPEAKER_07: You know, and they they kept track of their fouls and everything just like a regular varsity game.
- 50:32SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 50:33SPEAKER_07: So you they got the feeling of playing it was kinda neat.
- 50:36SPEAKER_07: That's cool.
- 50:36SPEAKER_07: Um so uh I was talking to a friend of mine and we were talking about how um I don't have to tell you this because you you are like this anyway.
- 50:47SPEAKER_07: Um he's was complaining about kids these days.
- 50:52SPEAKER_07: Kids these days.
- 50:54SPEAKER_07: And he's younger than me, not much younger than me, but he's he was talking, you know, how you know, they need a good kick in the butt, you know, and and and the more we coddle them, uh, the more we perpetuate their problems.
- 51:06SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 51:06SPEAKER_07: You know, anxiety or you know, whatever kind of kind of things that they're fighting, you know.
- 51:12SPEAKER_07: But but the more we coddle them, the the the bigger problems they're gonna have later in life.
- 51:17SPEAKER_07: And we're we're talking about this and I told them a couple stories.
- 51:20SPEAKER_07: Um and uh I got back and I was telling my wife that about this conversation.
- 51:27SPEAKER_07: And I said, you know, I'm a teacher, so I can't really say anything that I wanna say.
- 51:34SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 51:35SPEAKER_07: Um but I can't wait for that day to come because the older I get, the more I just wanna tell people how I feel without regard of feelings.
- 51:48SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 51:49SPEAKER_07: Um you've already passed that level.
- 51:50SPEAKER_07: So well, sort of.
- 51:51SPEAKER_07: I mean, you're not like you're not you're not afraid of saying how you feel.
- 51:57SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 51:58SPEAKER_07: You have nothing to lose.
- 51:59SPEAKER_07: I don't care anymore.
- 51:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah, exactly.
- 52:00SPEAKER_07: I can't wait for that um feeling to to not care w and it's it's also not really in my nature to be like that.
- 52:12SPEAKER_07: Um you know, but I feel there are things that I'd like to say.
- 52:17SPEAKER_04: You'll get there, don't worry.
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: It'll happen.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: I know, I know.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: It's coming, man.
- 52:21SPEAKER_04: That wall's gonna break down one day, and you're just gonna be like beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
- 52:26SPEAKER_07: A horse you rode in on.
- 52:27SPEAKER_07: Well, for example, she was my wife texted me because she was upstairs.
- 52:31SPEAKER_07: I was down here and she texted me and she said she was telling me about this this you know, play here, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 52:37SPEAKER_07: And and uh she says, you know, so-and-so's uh son.
- 52:41SPEAKER_07: It's like, oh, yeah, yeah, so-and-so, dumb as an ox.
- 52:45SPEAKER_07: And she laughed at it.
- 52:46SPEAKER_07: I'm like, well, I mean, it's true.
- 52:50SPEAKER_07: I could I wouldn't say that in like in reality.
- 52:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean you wouldn't say it in some, you know, to their face.
- 52:56SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 52:56SPEAKER_04: You're like, yeah, you're you know.
- 52:58SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 52:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, you know, wisdom is looking for you and you're outrunning it.
- 53:02SPEAKER_07: You know, good job.
- 53:03SPEAKER_07: But that's that's that's I I'm look f I look forward to that part of my life where I'd be like, yeah, you know, uh I respect your feelings and everything, but I don't care anymore.
- 53:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't care.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: Just you do you and leave me alone.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna be here with my, you know, in in my Spider-Man crocs, just watching TV.

- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: Myra?
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_04: Myra.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_04: You got one?
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_04: This is kind of interesting.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: First kiss on a bridge with the biggest crush from your youth.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_07: Biggest crush from my youth.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_07: That's an interesting one.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_07: It is.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_07: I don't know if I how how do I determine the biggest crush?
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_07: And what is my youth?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_07: Like, because I was uh excuse me, youth.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_07: Well no.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_08: Joe Peshi.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_08: Um what's a youth?
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_08: What's a youth?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_08: I'm sorry, youth.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_11: I love that look.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_07: No, uh like because I got married at twenty-three.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_07: I would consider that my youth.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're just a young whipper whippers snapper back to the.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_07: So, but the is that considered is my biggest crush would be my wife.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: I would say so.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_04: Because if you if you don't choose your wife, I think you're gonna pay for that.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_07: Right, but but like let's frame the question.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_07: Is it is it like middle school?
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_04: Is it Hey, it just says from your youth, whatever you choose, you're gonna go we're gonna go with it.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_07: Well, I don't want to do cop out and say my wife, because I mean my wife was my biggest crush.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_07: Obviously, I married her.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_07: Then done.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_07: But pretend you're on a bridge.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_05: After 28 years of marriage, I'm jumping.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_05: Let's spit off the bridge.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_05: Oh, there go my teeth.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_07: Um what was the so it's a song, right?
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_04: First kiss on a bridge with the biggest crush from your youth.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_07: Do we have to pick a song though?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_07: Oh, that's what I mean.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_07: So what song is playing during the first kiss of your youth?
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_07: With your biggest crush on the bridge.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: That's that's what I'm assuming it is?
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_07: So I think it ha that has to be, right?
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_07: That's all about songs.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_07: So what song is playing during the first your first kiss of your biggest crush of your youth on a bridge?
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_07: Alright.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_04: So there, there.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_04: We got past, present, and future.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_04: We got it.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_04: Well, not future.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_04: We got past and future done.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: So then we'll get back to next week doing all three.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_07: I already have a song.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_04: Okay, good.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_07: I'll forget it before next week, but I already have a song.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_07: Cool.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_07: Sweet.

- 1:04:41SPEAKER_04: Help Era.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: Wasn't on the album.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_04: It is that era.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_04: The song is called Yes It Is.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: John spoke about having once written love songs purely for, quote, the meat market.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_04: And yet it's hard to find the songs he was referring to.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_04: Yes, it is, though, was one song he felt particularly embarrassed about in later years.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_04: Scoffing at the line, for red is the color that will make me blue.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_04: I think that's kind of a good line.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_04: John claimed it was nothing more than an attempt to rewrite this boy, as it has the same chords, harmonies, and double Dutch words.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_04: That is true.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_07: It does sound like I'm gonna play this through my phone.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_07: So I apologize.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_04: Uh the lyric is a warning to a girl not to wear red because this is the color of that the singer's baby always wore.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_04: John's final verdict on the song was that quote, it didn't work.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_04: It was released as the B side to Ticket to Ride in both Britain and America during April 1965.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_13: Yes, it is clean with a cloud.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_07: Yes, it is.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_07: Yes, it is.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_07: Very cool.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_07: From Pass Mastery.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_07: Which was remastered in two thousand nine.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_07: Well tune.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_07: I have an album.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_07: Was it the cold following thing?
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_07: I don't think we've done this album.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_07: I haven't complained about this album.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_04: Recording?
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_04: Like remastered and re-remixed or something?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_04: I assume so.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_04: It's coming out on vinyl for the first time around.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_07: It's got some of the the most classic big head shot songs on it.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_07: But I've always had an issue with the mix of this album.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's not very good.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_07: Or the mix or or Yeah, no, I guess it's the mix and and kind of an effect that they used.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was I mean it's very early 90s.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_04: Uh I mean, you know, they it's one of their most successful albums.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's which is basically the one that put them on the map.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_07: Uh it's got the amazing brokenhearted savior.
- 1:08:06unknown: Ah yeah.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_07: Did you hear that?
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_07: It's like a chorus or something.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_02: A phaser or the light slowest thing I can't remember.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_07: Last time there's a gate on the on the Yeah.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_11: When we had leaves.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_07: Because when they play the song live, oh my word.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_07: Wait a killer.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_07: To be honest, the first five songs on this album are no skips.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_02: Broken heart stays.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_07: Um, and I don't know why this next song always made me think of fish.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_07: Especially when they do it live.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_07: Uh because it's just a jam.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_04: I can see that.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_04: This is like stuff they were doing on Rocksteady.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_07: I I have to say this, and and you'll agree with me.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_07: Uh, to whoever's listening.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_07: If you are not familiar with Big Head Todd the Monsters, you should make yourself familiar with Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_07: Such a phenomenal band.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_07: Especially live.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_07: Are you going in in February?
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_07: I yeah, I didn't.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_07: I have no idea, man.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_07: They're trying to organize a trip, and I don't know if I can.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_04: You know, I want to, but Oh, I'd love to, but I I just I don't know if it's gonna be in the cards for me.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_07: Uh and then this one, I love this song.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_07: Turn the turn the light out.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_10: Close the door.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_07: I'm gonna play you the two other bigger songs from this album.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_07: So there's this one.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_02: You can't turn back the tide.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_07: You hear that still got that terrible mix, right?
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_07: That pop.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_07: And here's the reason I say that is because let's listen to the live version real quick.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_07: Same song.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_04: Well, this is with hazel too.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_04: It is with hazel, yes.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_07: Just very more organic and just like you can't turn back the tight coat in front of the battery.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: Someone do you wrong here.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_02: Maybe you ain't as strong as you wanna be inside.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_07: If I was if I was uh trying to turn someone on to Big Head Todd the Monsters.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_07: Live Monsters.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_07: Live Monsters would be the one I would go with.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_07: Because that's a that's kind of a combination of all their previous albums in a live setting.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_07: Like the best songs.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_07: Most of the best songs.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_04: Well, the first time I heard Big Head Todd was on that album.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_07: I'm gonna play you.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_07: Well, actually, let me do this one because this one was a big one for them.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_07: It's bittersweet.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_07: Great song.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_07: Um, but I want to play you.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_07: What do you think my favorite song off this album is?
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_07: You know what?
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_07: See if you know me pretty well.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_04: I would say tomorrow never comes.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_04: Because that's my favorite song, too.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_07: You you you know me pretty well.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_07: That is, let me just play it because it's something about this tune, man.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_04: It's it's the it's the the words and the and the song.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just like perfect.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_07: You know what I mean?
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_07: The vibe, yeah, just the feel.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_07: And when he when he when he comes in with a guitar solo, and it's like it's like a statement, it's like right.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_07: It's just so sublime, you know.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_07: He's such an amazing songwriter.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_07: Absolutely.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_12: He loves beside her as she sleep.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_07: And this this is a band that has been doing it the right way for years and years.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_07: You know, they don't have a lot of radio play.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_07: No.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_07: If any.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_07: Maybe locally in Colorado, because they're from Colorado.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_07: Uh but they don't get played on the radio.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_04: No, you don't, you know, you would never hear them up here.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_04: The only time you ever heard them up here is when we played them on the show.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_07: Exactly.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_07: Um, and so they have a core audience that follows them wherever they go.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_07: They do annual pilgrimages to the Northeast.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_07: Uh, they do uh, you know, East Coasts.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_07: Um and they play Red Rocks all the time.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_07: Because it's in Colorado.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_07: And it's they're it's packed everywhere they go.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_07: Uh because they have this fan base that's like rabid.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_07: It's it's solid.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_07: It's solid.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_07: Solid.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_07: And you know, they they don't even they release uh they use I don't know if they're still doing this, but they would give away a free song.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_07: Like on their website.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_07: You know, like uh Oh, I I don't know.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_04: I haven't seen it.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you you'd be able to download a free song just because they want to share.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_07: You know, it's it's pretty cool.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_07: And it was uh the first band we went to see them in in um um at uh the ski resort there.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_07: Sugarloaf.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_07: Sugarloaf.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_07: And it was the first band that I had ever seen that was recording the show as you were there.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_07: And as you're going into the show, you can buy the live album of the concert you were at.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_07: And so when the show was over, you walked out and they gave you the CD as you walked out.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_07: That's the first I've ever seen that.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I've never seen it anywhere else either.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_04: And genius.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, heck yeah, man.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, it doesn't really cost them anything.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: No, I mean it was going off the board.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_04: Right into the friggin' CD, and they had a I I remember seeing like a ton of friggin' CD burners.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_04: You know, and they just right there.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: I mean, you're literally we just hung out there anyway because we were getting autographs from uh from uh Brian and Hazel.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: So I've I love that conversation I had with Brian.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_04: He's like, how far'd you guys come?
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_04: And I was like, ah, I came about five hours, and Hazel was like, oh good!
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_07: I think this I think this is my favorite part here.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_07: This is what I'm talking about with the guitar, so just kind of let me use a statement.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_07: Very uh blues influence.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_07: You know, they're they're a rock band, but they're they're they lean toward the to the blues.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_07: Um matter of fact, they did they have a couple albums that are uh tributes like to Robert Johnson and um Muddy Waters too, right?
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_07: There's a Muddy Waters one.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_07: There's a Muddy Waters one too, yeah.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_07: Big head Todd and the monsters, man.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_07: My my top five bands.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_07: Top five bands.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_07: That's tomorrow never comes from the album.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_07: I didn't know if I did I say that you said the name of the album.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_07: I did.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_07: Sister Sweetly.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_07: And it was the one 93, I think.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was the one that put them on the map.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_07: I mean, they've had it they had a couple albums.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_07: I think it's the only one that's ever charted on Billboard.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_07: I think you're right.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_07: Uh they had a couple albums before that.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_07: I think uh Midnight Radio was before that.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_07: And I think there was another one.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_07: Another Mayberry.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_07: Yeah, another Mayberry.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_07: And they've been consistently putting out amazing records.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_04: Um every big head Todd album I have, I love.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_04: And what's cool?
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_04: I've never I've never gotten one with and what's cool about it is they're all different.

- 1:19:08SPEAKER_04: They're the same.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_07: You know, like it sounds like big head todd.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_07: But they they cover so much ground.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_04: Like you would have a rock song, you can have a pop song, you can have a blue song, you can have an RB song.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_04: You were talking about the album Rock Steady.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's like all soul music.
