- Lucas: Velkommen til Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hej! Lucas, I've been practicing the days of the week from last time — mandag, tirsdag, onsdag, torsdag, fredag. But what about the weekend? Lucas: Great question. The weekend is 'weekend' in Danish too, but we often say 'i weekenden' — meaning 'in the weekend' or 'during the weekend'. Luna: I weekenden. So if someone asks what I'm doing in the weekend, I can use that. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to say 'on Saturday' or 'on Sunday', we say 'om lørdagen' and 'om søndagen'. Lørdag is Saturday, søndag is Sunday. Luna: Om lørdagen, om søndagen. So 'lørdag' becomes 'lørdagen' with the -en ending. Lucas: Right. Now, a common question to ask about plans: 'Hvad skal du i weekenden?' — What are you going to do in the weekend? Luna: Hvad skal du i weekenden? That's a bit longer. Let me try: Hvad skal du i weekenden? Lucas: Nearly perfect. Put a tiny pause after 'skal' — Hvad skal du i weekenden? You got it. Luna: Hvad skal du i weekenden? And if someone asks me, I can say 'Jeg skal slappe af' — I'm going to relax. That's from a previous episode, right? Lucas: Yes, 'at slappe af' means to relax. So 'Jeg skal slappe af' — I'm going to relax. Another common answer is 'Jeg skal mødes med venner' — I'm going to meet up with friends. Luna: Mødes med venner. That's nice. So 'Jeg skal mødes med venner'. Lucas: Good. Now let's put it all together. Imagine it's Friday and I ask you: Hvad skal du i weekenden? Luna: Oh, let me think. Um... Jeg skal mødes med venner om lørdagen, og om søndagen skal jeg slappe af. Lucas: That's fantastic! You used both days and the weekend phrase. Great job. Luna: Tak! So 'i weekenden' is the key phrase for talking about the weekend. Lucas: Yes. And if you're finding these episodes helpful, let me mention something. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Danish, listeners like you can support the show so it stays free and ad-free. Luna: Yeah, we really appreciate that. It's easy — just go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: And every little bit helps us keep making these episodes. Now, back to the weekend. Let's practice 'om lørdagen' and 'om søndagen' a few more times. Luna: Om lørdagen. Om søndagen. I think I've got it. Can we try a little conversation? Lucas: Sure. I'll ask you: Hvad skal du i weekenden? Luna: Jeg skal slappe af om lørdagen og mødes med venner om søndagen. Lucas: Perfect. Now you try answering with your own plans. Just say 'Jeg skal' plus an activity. For example, 'Jeg skal læse' — I'm going to read. Luna: Jeg skal læse. Or 'Jeg skal se en film' — I'm going to watch a movie. Lucas: Exactly. So now you can talk about your weekend plans in Danish. I think I've got them. Lucas: You do. Practice these with your own activities. And if you want to support us, remember buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yes, that's buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Thanks for listening, and vi ses næste gang! Lucas: Vi ses!
