- 0:07Speaker 2: The world's original podcast.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered. What's
- 0:21Speaker 1: the spread, Paul, the early spread?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Three and a half.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Patriots favorite. Yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Maybe closer to six than three.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Agreed.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Six?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Because that's eight.
- 0:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 0:31Speaker 3: But we didn't talk about Efton Chisholm. We talked about
- 0:33Speaker 3: it a lot.
- 0:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 3: It's a big play.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Well, I think he wanted me to, like, take my
- 0:37Speaker 1: shirt off and run around. Oh, I wanted that, too.
- 0:40Speaker 1: One receiver runs the correct routes, and one receiver doesn't. Okay.
- 0:43Speaker 3: So, I mean, I'm just like— One guy's an idiot,
- 0:46Speaker 3: and the other guy's smart.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I didn't say that.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Why would you go there? I didn't say that.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Travis in West Virginia, now you're answering weather forecast questions.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Again, there's something called the internet.
- 0:57Speaker 6: Ha!
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's true.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I love our listeners because they're so mean to each other.
- 1:01Speaker 6: I know, I know.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You were on with Arcand last night?
- 1:03Speaker 7: I was, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Why did you not run this.
- 1:04Speaker 1: By me before? I know you keep track of my schedule.
- 1:07Speaker 3: They had a really good offense last year without all
- 1:09Speaker 3: the bells and whistles that you're talking about.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I don't think this is a bell and a whistle.
- 1:13Speaker 2: This one is a little bit unprotected sex for me.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I'm going to go with Jacksonville both ways.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's not a safe bet. This is Patriots Unfiltered. Presented
- 1:21Speaker 1: by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:25Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:29Speaker 2: at Gillette Stadium, and we've got a lot to talk about. Patriots,
- 1:34Speaker 2: big win. Ugh, we're on a roll.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Back, except those injuries. Yeah. We've got to talk about those, too.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We've got to talk about the fact that the Bills
- 1:44Speaker 2: and the Rams don't have a defense. Watched that game
- 1:47Speaker 2: last night. That was ridiculous. And everything else going around
- 1:50Speaker 2: in the NFL. So it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's Deuce, it's Matt in the booth. And we're here
- 1:56Speaker 2: at our normal time now, 11 o'clock every week.
- 1:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Comes quick.
- 2:00Speaker 2: How do you like it?
- 2:01Speaker 1: How do you like being at 11?
- 2:03Speaker 3: You know me.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But now the change has been happening. I don't like change.
- 2:07Speaker 2: But are you settling in?
- 2:09Speaker 3: I'm settling in. I'm getting more used to it, yes.
- 2:11Speaker 6: All right.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's just objectively better for Deuce and I.
- 2:14Speaker 2: You sound like you're getting sick, too. Are you getting sick?
- 2:16Speaker 1: No. You know my voice. It comes and goes.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It comes and goes?
- 2:19Speaker 1: I talk too much.
- 2:20Speaker 2: So, Patriots get sick, you get sick?
- 2:23Speaker 1: I just, like, I talk too much. All right. Yeah, no. But, like,
- 2:28Speaker 1: for Deuce and I, it is objectively just a better...
- 2:31Speaker 1: schedule for the two of you. I'm glad we could
- 2:35Speaker 1: accommodate you. Yeah, so I understand if you don't feel
- 2:39Speaker 1: the same way.
- 2:39Speaker 8: You get to follow, you know, you get to go
- 2:41Speaker 8: to Vrabel, you get to go to the locker room.
- 2:43Speaker 8: I mean, I never got to hear Josh McDaniels last year.
- 2:47Speaker 2: They were all asking, where's Deuce?
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't know. Don't worry, Dave. I mean, kind of.
- 2:52Speaker 3: They did used to have all those things that would
- 2:54Speaker 3: happen while the show was going on. Now, that didn't
- 2:57Speaker 3: help you much because you were obviously going over there,
- 3:00Speaker 3: but I don't see any more of Rabel and McDaniels
- 3:04Speaker 3: than I did last year.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Now, the locker room is different.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I'm like you, Fred. I talk to Ramondre Stevenson.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I say, hey, what's up?
- 3:12Speaker 3: He's my guy. Little Marcus Jones on the side.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Those are my crushes. That's all I got.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I don't really have anything else to do in the
- 3:19Speaker 3: locker room.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It seems like a lot has happened since the last
- 3:23Speaker 2: time we had a show. Of course, the game. But
- 3:26Speaker 2: the whole weekend with the reunion of the 2001 team,
- 3:29Speaker 2: which was Just a great couple days with everybody back here.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Adam Vinatieri getting his Super Bowl. I keep saying Super Bowl.
- 3:37Speaker 2: His Hall of Fame ring at halftime of the game,
- 3:40Speaker 2: which we streamed out live on Patriots.com. So it was
- 3:44Speaker 2: just an eventful weekend. Lots of stuff.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I didn't know we were going to see his bust, too.
- 3:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That was on hand. I've already seen it.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I guess.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Why does he say it like that? So, but.
- 3:58Speaker 2: All the, you know, just watching the video of all
- 4:00Speaker 2: the players seeing each other. And a lot of them
- 4:02Speaker 2: haven't seen each other for a long time. It was
- 4:05Speaker 2: just great. They had a brunch. They came to the
- 4:09Speaker 2: walkthrough on Saturday with the team. They had a dinner
- 4:12Speaker 2: Saturday night. Obviously they were all here for the game,
- 4:15Speaker 2: the halftime ceremony, seeing Adam Vinatieri and his gold jacket
- 4:18Speaker 2: sitting next to Robert Crafter in the game. And he
- 4:21Speaker 2: was like really like into the game, like cheering on
- 4:24Speaker 2: the team and everything. It was, It was just an
- 4:26Speaker 2: excellent weekend.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Which guy did you see that you were, like, sort
- 4:29Speaker 3: of the most excited to see? Besides Brian Morey.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Well, I wasn't there physically.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh. No. Okay.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 4:35Speaker 1: My bad.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I was just watching all the video of it.
- 4:37Speaker 6: Oh.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I thought maybe you were at.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Well, you know, I would have said, hi, lawyer.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Hey, lawyer. No, I would have, you know, McGinn, all
- 4:45Speaker 2: those guys, you know.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought you were on site on Saturday for
- 4:49Speaker 3: those festivities.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Our content crew was there capturing everything.
- 4:54Speaker 6: So.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Over the week, you'll see more and more of this stuff.
- 4:57Speaker 2: And let me tell you something. I got a sneak
- 5:00Speaker 2: preview at the latest episode of Forge in Foxborough, which
- 5:03Speaker 2: will be coming out soon.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Outstanding.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Oh.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I like it. Really, really good.
- 5:08Speaker 1: When's it coming out?
- 5:08Speaker 2: I can't tell you. Soon.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:10Speaker 9: Soon.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Get excited. Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Nice.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Very soon. Very excited to see that. It's great.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: In season.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Yeah. Nice.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Good stuff.
- 5:20Speaker 1: All right.
- 5:20Speaker 2: All right. So where do we start?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Stop looking at me. Start with the game.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Patriots move to 3-2 with, you know, I wasn't surprised
- 5:31Speaker 2: because I thought they, I called 31-10, so I had
- 5:34Speaker 2: to spread about right. But I was a little surprised
- 5:39Speaker 2: at how just, I don't know, much of a layup
- 5:42Speaker 2: it was.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 3: How easily they move the ball and put points on
- 5:46Speaker 3: the board. I thought it would be a relatively easy
- 5:49Speaker 3: game with maybe like a late touchdown for the Raiders,
- 5:51Speaker 3: making it look a little closer. But I didn't think
- 5:55Speaker 3: it was going to be a tough game to win.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I didn't think it was going to be that easy, though. 45,
- 5:59Speaker 3: I didn't expect 45.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You know, on Thursday, I didn't know for sure that
- 6:03Speaker 2: Carlton Davis wasn't going to play. And I was kind
- 6:06Speaker 2: of figuring one of the two cornerbacks would play, and
- 6:09Speaker 2: then he's out. And I figured, oh, this is going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to be tough. But, man, I got to hand it
- 6:17Speaker 2: to the defense. Obviously, Drake May had a game, and
- 6:22Speaker 2: all the wide receivers chipped in. So just a real
- 6:25Speaker 2: team effort and a great coaching job by the Patriots.
- 6:28Speaker 8: Yeah, great coaching job. I think everybody's just surprised that
- 6:32Speaker 8: it turned around so quick. They just looked so stuck
- 6:35Speaker 8: in their own rut the first few weeks, and then
- 6:38Speaker 8: you saw hints of it last week, and then this
- 6:41Speaker 8: week it was just Drake had time. this was the
- 6:44Speaker 8: guy that we saw last year. And then all of
- 6:46Speaker 8: a sudden, you know, it all, it all starts to click.
- 6:48Speaker 8: But like you said, the injuries to me are just
- 6:51Speaker 8: continue to be the theme where it seems like every week,
- 6:54Speaker 8: one to two guys are landing on IR. And at
- 6:56Speaker 8: what point do they reach a breaking point? I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 8: I don't think they're quite there yet. I mean, maybe
- 7:01Speaker 8: at running back with Henderson, which report this morning, he's
- 7:03Speaker 8: got a high ankle sprain, which again, at least a
- 7:05Speaker 8: couple of weeks. I mean, I don't know if he's
- 7:07Speaker 8: going on IR, but so they got to find, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 8: some way to get, Some complimentary carries to Ramondre. I
- 7:13Speaker 8: don't want to run Ramondre into the ground for the
- 7:15Speaker 8: next four weeks.
- 7:16Speaker 2: No, he needs somebody to give him some time off
- 7:21Speaker 2: during games.
- 7:21Speaker 8: And then Caleb Lomu did a pretty good job on
- 7:24Speaker 8: the left side. I think everybody was encouraged by that performance.
- 7:27Speaker 8: That's the one, if Moses stays healthy, we can deal with,
- 7:31Speaker 8: I think.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think. Because, well, the Jets had eight sacks last week. So,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I mean, they've got some talent up front.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I was actually watching them last night, and I wanted to, like,
- 7:45Speaker 1: note the ones of the eight that were like, is
- 7:47Speaker 1: this just Cleveland and Deshaun Watson being bad versus the
- 7:50Speaker 1: Jets being good? And I would say it is about
- 7:52Speaker 1: half and half. You know, the very first sack of
- 7:55Speaker 1: the game that they had, Deshaun Watson dropped the snap.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He literally dropped the snap. And so that was why
- 8:01Speaker 1: it was a sack. So, you know, those types of
- 8:03Speaker 1: plays are a little bit fluky. But, yeah, back to,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you know, this game, I just– I give Rabel and
- 8:11Speaker 1: McDaniels a lot of credit because I would just come
- 8:14Speaker 1: out of the gate in a season with my best stuff.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Like I would just immediately start running my best stuff
- 8:21Speaker 1: out of the shoot. And I think a lot of
- 8:23Speaker 1: teams that do that, they kind of develop some bad
- 8:27Speaker 1: habits that go under the radar because they're kind of
- 8:32Speaker 1: moving the ball and being productive offensively. And so then
- 8:36Speaker 1: as the course of the season wears on, those bad
- 8:39Speaker 1: habits start to get bigger and bigger deals as you
- 8:42Speaker 1: wear on and the fundamentals and the techniques and all
- 8:45Speaker 1: that kind of stuff.
- 8:47Speaker 2: The bad habits develop because they're just falling back on
- 8:50Speaker 2: their offense.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Or their scheme. Like, yeah, like I think that they
- 8:53Speaker 1: throw so much scheme at teams early on in the
- 8:57Speaker 1: year and you hear all about, you know, he was
- 8:59Speaker 1: in the lab all summer long and, you know, they
- 9:01Speaker 1: had drawn plays up and stuff like that. And then
- 9:04Speaker 1: there's film on it. They get figured out a little bit.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Maybe some of the things that were under the surface,
- 9:11Speaker 1: under the hood, were not getting corrected because they were
- 9:13Speaker 1: putting up points and they were winning games. And the
- 9:15Speaker 1: Patriots just do the opposite. The Patriots are a slow-building team,
- 9:20Speaker 1: at least offensively, where the first couple weeks of the
- 9:23Speaker 1: season is an extension of the preseason and they kind
- 9:25Speaker 1: of take it a little bit more vanilla and a
- 9:28Speaker 1: little bit slower. So what happened last year? Well, they
- 9:33Speaker 1: were 1-2.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I'm talking about... He said they're slow building, but toward
- 9:36Speaker 2: the end of the year, the offense fell off.
- 9:38Speaker 10: Oh, oh.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Well, I think that that was opponent-driven. But, yeah, I
- 9:44Speaker 1: think that we're seeing it now the last couple of
- 9:46Speaker 1: weeks that each week McDaniel adds a little bit more
- 9:50Speaker 1: spice to it, a little bit more seasoning, a little
- 9:52Speaker 1: bit more creativity, and now the offense has broken out.
- 9:56Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I mean, I would agree with, with the, the, the
- 9:59Speaker 3: premise that, that Evan just threw out there. I do
- 10:02Speaker 3: feel like Josh doesn't throw the kitchen sink at you
- 10:06Speaker 3: right away, but I also, I, I take Josh at
- 10:09Speaker 3: face value. And I think some people sort of scoffed
- 10:11Speaker 3: at him last week when he was talking about, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 3: the quote unquote changes and, And, you know, the more
- 10:18Speaker 3: creativity and whatnot. Like, when you're not doing things well,
- 10:22Speaker 3: when you're not doing the basic stuff well, it's hard
- 10:24Speaker 3: to really get crazy. And I'm not talking about, like,
- 10:29Speaker 3: basic things like motion and stuff that Evan's been talking
- 10:32Speaker 3: about for a couple weeks. I'm talking about just, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 3: people like, you know, where's the tempo? We saw all
- 10:37Speaker 3: this tempo in training camp yesterday. When you're not moving
- 10:41Speaker 3: the ball, it's hard to just... Oh, you know what?
- 10:44Speaker 3: We can't get a first down the last two times
- 10:46Speaker 3: we had the ball doing it conventionally.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Let's just go tempo.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Sometimes when you're having trouble with the basic, the next
- 10:55Speaker 3: level stuff isn't really the smartest way to go. And
- 10:58Speaker 3: I take Josh at face value with that. That's kind
- 11:01Speaker 3: of the way he explained it last week. We weren't
- 11:03Speaker 3: really doing much of anything well to start. Now, to
- 11:07Speaker 3: Evan's point... You're starting to see some different wrinkles, some
- 11:10Speaker 3: different formations. Look, they start the game the other day.
- 11:12Speaker 3: They had like two tight ends in the backfield.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Double side car.
- 11:17Speaker 3: In the pistol. I don't remember seeing that all that often.
- 11:21Speaker 3: I'm sure that he has done it, but I don't
- 11:23Speaker 3: remember Josh doing that all that often. Just some different stuff.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I think when you start getting some confidence in your
- 11:29Speaker 3: quarterback and things are starting to get a little bit better,
- 11:32Speaker 3: and I think Mike hit the nail on the head.
- 11:34Speaker 3: The one thing that really stood out to me that
- 11:36Speaker 3: was different in this game than the previous four was
- 11:38Speaker 3: pass protection. They were excellent up front in this game.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 2: You know, they've been using a little bit more two
- 11:46Speaker 2: halfbacks or two running backs on the field at the
- 11:48Speaker 2: same time. One of them goes wide and sometimes they
- 11:51Speaker 2: come back together. I'm really worried that this injury to
- 11:54Speaker 2: Henderson is going to cramp that scheme a little bit
- 11:57Speaker 2: because I think that was effective.
- 11:59Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 1: They only did it like a couple of times, but
- 12:01Speaker 1: it was effective when they did it. Um, I think,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you know, back to the McDaniels thing that Paul was
- 12:07Speaker 1: talking about, he was saying, like, that they're not running,
- 12:11Speaker 1: the concepts that they're running are not different.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I think they are running the same plays that they
- 12:17Speaker 1: were running to start the season. The difference is the
- 12:20Speaker 1: window dressing, the formations that they're running out of it,
- 12:23Speaker 1: the motions that they're using to build those concepts. And
- 12:26Speaker 1: they're also just executing better. But once the ball is snapped,
- 12:29Speaker 1: the concepts are the same. it's what's going on, but
- 12:33Speaker 1: they're blocking it better there.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You know?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah. But like all that stuff, it's all goes hand
- 12:38Speaker 1: in hand. Right. And so like, I think when he
- 12:41Speaker 1: said last week, like to me, he buried the lead
- 12:43Speaker 1: last week. He said, we're running the same place to
- 12:46Speaker 1: kind of like squash that narrative that they changed a
- 12:48Speaker 1: lot of things up in Buffalo.
- 12:50Speaker 9: Right.
- 12:50Speaker 1: But then he said, as the answer wore on, that
- 12:55Speaker 1: he builds, that he builds throughout the course of the
- 12:57Speaker 1: season and that they want to build a foundation on
- 13:00Speaker 1: strong fundamentals before they start doing the fancy stuff. And
- 13:04Speaker 1: now that they feel like they've done that over the
- 13:06Speaker 1: course of September, now we're starting to see more of
- 13:09Speaker 1: the fancy stuff. So he wasn't lying when he said
- 13:12Speaker 1: that they're running the same plays. They are running the
- 13:13Speaker 1: same plays.
- 13:14Speaker 2: It's one of those chicken or egg things. If in
- 13:17Speaker 2: the beginning of a game you're not having success, it's
- 13:19Speaker 2: tough to build on anything because there's nothing to build on.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But if you're having early success, then you can start
- 13:24Speaker 2: building on it.
- 13:26Speaker 3: The first drive of that Buffalo game was a 97-yard touchdown.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:30Speaker 1: So now they're.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Looking at the touchdowns. The opponent's defense is looking at
- 13:35Speaker 2: what do we do wrong, how do we adjust, and
- 13:37Speaker 2: now you've got them.
- 13:38Speaker 3: But it's also, and it's just sheer volume. Like, the
- 13:42Speaker 3: more plays you run, the more different things that you,
- 13:45Speaker 3: as Evan likes to say, the more times you can
- 13:46Speaker 3: go into your bag and break out some.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Of these different things.
- 13:49Speaker 3: If you're going three and out all the time, and
- 13:51Speaker 3: not that they've gone, they haven't gone three and out,
- 13:53Speaker 3: but like they haven't really consistently moved the ball in
- 13:55Speaker 3: the first three games. Like, they would get the ball
- 13:58Speaker 3: around midfield.
- 13:59Speaker 1: They'd stall out.
- 14:00Speaker 3: You know, they had the fewest amount of red zone
- 14:03Speaker 3: trips in football after the first three weeks.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 14:07Speaker 3: So, like. It's hard when you're not sustaining drives, 8, 10,
- 14:12Speaker 3: 12 plays. Now, I mean, the other day it felt
- 14:15Speaker 3: like they had the ball. It felt like they were
- 14:17Speaker 3: on a touchdown drive every time, like every drive at
- 14:20Speaker 3: that game the other day.
- 14:21Speaker 1: So you can try different stuff.
- 14:23Speaker 3: You get a penalty, you get pushed back, you try
- 14:25Speaker 3: a little hook and ladder, you know, wrinkle in there because...
- 14:29Speaker 3: You have more opportunities to do some of these different things. And,
- 14:32Speaker 3: you know, you get to the end of the game
- 14:33Speaker 3: and you take your shots with Kyle Williams, you know?
- 14:36Speaker 1: I got a little bone to pick with you, actually, Paul.
- 14:37Speaker 3: You have a lot of bones to pick with me.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Deuce picking a bone. I'm glad Evan's here.
- 14:42Speaker 8: Because he kind of attacked me a little bit on
- 14:45Speaker 8: the postgame show where I pointed out that I thought
- 14:48Speaker 8: it was a little weird to me.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That on the hook and ladder, Chisholm threw it overhand.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And you were like, what are you talking about? They
- 14:53Speaker 1: do that all the time. Have you ever watched hook
- 14:54Speaker 1: and ladder before? Blah, blah, blah.
- 14:56Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I didn't say that.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Let me finish. Let me finish.
- 14:58Speaker 3: I didn't say that.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Then I did a hook and ladder. I go, I
- 15:01Speaker 1: got to look at this. I'm like, every hook and
- 15:03Speaker 1: ladder I've ever seen, the guy catches it and he
- 15:04Speaker 1: gives the little underhand.
- 15:06Speaker 8: And so I go to Twitter and I'm like, in
- 15:07Speaker 8: every single example, the hook and ladder is the little
- 15:09Speaker 8: underhand flip.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So what were you telling me?
- 15:11Speaker 3: Detroit Lions do it. I would say 10 times a year.
- 15:15Speaker 1: The Lions run the same play as the Patriots. Overhand.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I thought that was interesting. To go across the field
- 15:19Speaker 1: with them. Right.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Travis Kelsey.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Overhand.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Well, Travis Kelsey improvised.
- 15:25Speaker 6: He does.
- 15:25Speaker 3: But he does. Evan's right about that.
- 15:28Speaker 1: He played college quarterback, so he improvised.
- 15:29Speaker 3: They do improvise a little bit with Kansas City.
- 15:32Speaker 1: They like Chiz's arms.
- 15:34Speaker 3: They do. Detroit runs a very specific play with Amon
- 15:38Speaker 3: Ross St. Brown, and he throws it overhand.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Well, I'm just saying.
- 15:42Speaker 8: But you do admit, though, there is a lot of
- 15:44Speaker 8: times hook and ladder where he tosses it underhand, right?
- 15:48Speaker 3: The only thing I'm pushing back on is that I
- 15:51Speaker 3: snapped at you about the overhand-underhand thing. Right, right. I
- 15:54Speaker 3: snapped at you about not knowing if it was a
- 15:56Speaker 3: designed play or not.
- 15:57Speaker 1: No, it was a designed play. I knew that for sure.
- 16:00Speaker 3: That was the only thing. I was like, yeah. Because
- 16:03Speaker 3: you were like, is that not a hook and ladder
- 16:04Speaker 3: because he ran it overhand? I was like, no, I've
- 16:06Speaker 3: seen it overhand many times.
- 16:07Speaker 1: No, I just meant it was weird to me that
- 16:08Speaker 1: I didn't. But if I snapped... I was joking.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Let me.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I can't apologize.
- 16:15Speaker 3: It's not in me. I apologize for snapping.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Congratulations on sticking up for yourself.
- 16:21Speaker 1: That was growth right there.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I know it took three days, but that's okay.
- 16:28Speaker 3: He hasn't mentioned it off-air once.
- 16:30Speaker 1: For three days.
- 16:31Speaker 3: He's been just.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Fuming for three days.
- 16:33Speaker 11: You know what?
- 16:34Speaker 2: They do throw it over. And I know they do.
- 16:36Speaker 1: You know what?
- 16:36Speaker 2: Perillo.
- 16:37Speaker 6: It's under.
- 16:38Speaker 1: No, I thought about it yesterday. I was like, no,
- 16:39Speaker 1: that'll be too much fun. Even you snapping back at Paul,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you looked uncomfortable doing it. He was like, just let
- 16:46Speaker 1: it go. Are you mad at me? No, I absolutely.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I argue with these two all the time. I know
- 16:52Speaker 1: the underhand.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know, like the famous one that Miami did. You
- 16:57Speaker 3: want to really do this? The famous one that Miami
- 16:59Speaker 3: did against the Chargers in that playoff game in the
- 17:01Speaker 3: early 80s. That was underhand.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I thought you were going to Miami in the early 80s.
- 17:07Speaker 3: There was overhand ones in that one, too. The infamous
- 17:10Speaker 3: one with the Raiders that the Patriots lost the game on.
- 17:13Speaker 3: There was an overhand one right to Matt Jones.
- 17:15Speaker 11: Oh, that one.
- 17:16Speaker 1: That's a whole nother one. I feel like the hook
- 17:18Speaker 1: and ladder usually, because like what Deuce is talking about,
- 17:21Speaker 1: the receiver catches a ball and then another receiver kind
- 17:24Speaker 1: of swoops in and takes it. But now they're doing
- 17:27Speaker 1: it to throw it across the field to like change
- 17:29Speaker 1: the point of attack. Right.
- 17:31Speaker 3: And I would also say if you wanted to really
- 17:33Speaker 3: attack sort of the description of the play as a
- 17:36Speaker 3: hook and ladder.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Well. The hook and ladder is actually a hook, and
- 17:41Speaker 3: that's not what the Patriots technically ran. It was kind
- 17:44Speaker 3: of a crossing route to Chisholm, and then he threw
- 17:47Speaker 3: the ball out. So a hook and ladder is usually,
- 17:50Speaker 3: like Evan said, it's sort of a hook. You show
- 17:52Speaker 3: the body, and then you flip it.
- 17:54Speaker 2: To a guy.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Then I got on my own head about it, and
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm going, is it a hook and ladder?
- 17:59Speaker 2: I've heard both.
- 18:00Speaker 8: Because I've always thought hook and ladder.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Yes.
- 18:03Speaker 1: But then as I'm in the weeds because of this guy.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Is it a shovel pass? Is it a shuffler pass?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Is it a ladder? I feel very strongly about hook
- 18:10Speaker 1: and ladder.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Doesn't it come from a fireman's term? The hook and ladder?
- 18:14Speaker 1: I assume so.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Much like everything else, I don't know.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Because a lot of people push back. Look that up.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Where does hook and ladder come from? And say it's
- 18:24Speaker 1: hook and lateral. I'm like, no, it's hook and ladder.
- 18:27Speaker 1: That's what it's always been. It's been that since the
- 18:30Speaker 1: 1940s when they were running it in Navy, you know,
- 18:32Speaker 1: or whatever. We're not changing. Like, it's not hook and lateral.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You're wrong.
- 18:35Speaker 3: But yes, dude, you are right. A lot of times
- 18:38Speaker 3: it is underhand.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Actually, you know. That brings the record to 742 for
- 18:44Speaker 1: Paul and one for Deuce.
- 18:46Speaker 3: One for Deuce.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It is technically hook and lateral, but it's hook and ladder.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I think because it is the technical football thing.
- 18:54Speaker 8: You hook and then you're lateral.
- 18:56Speaker 2: You know the origin.
- 18:57Speaker 3: But it's much easier to say hook and ladder.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Language of origin. Could you use it in a sentence, please?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Anyway. Yes.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Did you watch Varsity Blues?
- 19:06Speaker 3: The movie Varsity Blues?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Many times. The whipped cream thing?
- 19:10Speaker 12: Uh, yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 3: No, wait, no, no, no, no. It's a different, that's
- 19:15Speaker 3: a different, it's a different movie. I think now that
- 19:17Speaker 3: I'm Billy Bob, I can't remember.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It is a hook and ladder to Billy Bob.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that's right. That's right.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 1: No, you're right. It's the whipped cream one. You distracted
- 19:24Speaker 1: them with the whipped cream.
- 19:25Speaker 3: But when they do, they do the stupid play call
- 19:27Speaker 3: at the end, like, you know, Mox runs the hook
- 19:29Speaker 3: and ladder and he goes, like, that's the signal.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Like, I wonder what they're doing.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Great film.
- 19:39Speaker 13: All right.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Good times.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Wow.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Got off track quick.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Sorry to get us off track. Off track quick today.
- 19:44Speaker 1: That was good.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I'm proud of you.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So I apologize.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So is the headline coming out of this game? the
- 19:50Speaker 2: resurgence of Drake May or the overcoming of injuries?
- 19:54Speaker 8: I'm going to say a resurgence of Drake May. You know,
- 19:57Speaker 8: and it's all connected to the protection, I thought. And
- 20:00Speaker 8: so much we talk about this and it's like, if
- 20:02Speaker 8: they can just get the run game going, that'll help.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Like it didn't really matter. Like it just, they protected him.
- 20:07Speaker 1: They had a good plan. He was confident.
- 20:09Speaker 8: And I think to me, that's what matters most, all
- 20:12Speaker 8: these injuries and everything. Like, I just don't like how
- 20:15Speaker 8: it's coming true that I thought this was going to
- 20:16Speaker 8: be a hard season with injuries and stuff.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And it's playing out just like that.
- 20:19Speaker 8: And, you know, again, how much can they continue to
- 20:22Speaker 8: weather with this and, you know, bring it in Lomu
- 20:25Speaker 8: and now it's going to kick down. And is it
- 20:27Speaker 8: crown over Marcus Bryan? And now those guys are in. So,
- 20:30Speaker 8: You know, they're just continuing to have to scramble around Drake.
- 20:32Speaker 8: But I just love the confidence he showed, the way
- 20:34Speaker 8: he was throwing the football. Like, faith restored. It reminds
- 20:38Speaker 8: you that this kid can play, that he didn't, you know,
- 20:40Speaker 8: it wasn't.
- 20:40Speaker 1: An illusion last year. Right.
- 20:42Speaker 8: But he had to go through some, you know, some
- 20:44Speaker 8: tough times, I thought. He had to go through some
- 20:46Speaker 8: of this, and I... There'll be probably more tough times
- 20:48Speaker 8: coming that he's going to have to fight through.
- 20:50Speaker 1: But hopefully, A.J. Brown back.
- 20:52Speaker 8: That, to me, will be the kind of boost that
- 20:54Speaker 8: can offset some of his injuries.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And we got a little news, right?
- 20:57Speaker 2: Vrabel said that he could be back.
- 20:59Speaker 8: See, now, to me, and this is maybe, again, Paul
- 21:02Speaker 8: in my head, but this was like, it felt like
- 21:05Speaker 8: the question was, is it possible he could return this week?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a chance. There's a chance.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He just said he's stuck with that.
- 21:12Speaker 8: Of course, he's technically eligible, but he's not telling us
- 21:15Speaker 8: anything about it.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Ever since the Drake Mayshoulder thing, he's changed his tune
- 21:19Speaker 1: on injuries. Now everything is, mum's the word.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Ambivalent? Yeah, vague.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Told you everybody who was going to be out last week.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Well, on Friday, yeah. But I'm talking about Monday press
- 21:33Speaker 1: conferences after the game.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I think if he knows... I think going forward, if
- 21:38Speaker 2: he knows something for certain, he's going to say it.
- 21:40Speaker 1: If he doesn't, he's going to say it. I don't know.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I mean, I think last Monday he said Matt Collins
- 21:45Speaker 3: is going to miss at least a few days of practice.
- 21:47Speaker 3: A few days of practice?
- 21:48Speaker 1: He's on injured reserve.
- 21:50Speaker 3: I know, but he told you that beforehand. I don't
- 21:53Speaker 3: think if a guy isn't going to be forthcoming with
- 21:56Speaker 3: injury news, he's not saying that. Well, you know, we've
- 21:58Speaker 3: got to see. Like, that's the build way.
- 22:02Speaker 1: He said about both the guys that got hurt.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Finished the game 15 minutes ago.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see.
- 22:06Speaker 8: Nothing on Campbell yet, but, you know.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Well, there's some MCL sprain reports out there.
- 22:11Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Similar injury.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Actually, I think Rappaport said it's the same injury.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Well, what do you make of him during the game
- 22:19Speaker 2: coming back with a brace on and getting on the bike?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Do you think there was a chance that if there
- 22:26Speaker 2: was another injury, he would have gone back in?
- 22:28Speaker 8: My mind went back to last year. They felt they
- 22:31Speaker 8: had to put him on IR to save him from himself.
- 22:33Speaker 8: That was what immediately popped to my mind of him
- 22:35Speaker 8: being like, I think I'm okay.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Maybe, but why did the doctors put a brace on
- 22:42Speaker 2: him if there's no intention of putting him back in
- 22:44Speaker 2: the game?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Emergency. That's what I mean.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I think you might have something. That would be my guess.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I don't know exactly why, but My guess is if
- 22:55Speaker 3: something happened to Loma or Moses and they needed somebody
- 22:58Speaker 3: to go out there, maybe they felt better about him
- 23:00Speaker 3: with a brace on.
- 23:01Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I mean, they probably would have gone Rouse, I guess.
- 23:05Speaker 3: He has some tackle experience, too.
- 23:07Speaker 2: So, given that, maybe it's not as severe a strain
- 23:14Speaker 2: as it was last year.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't read into that. I don't know. I didn't
- 23:18Speaker 1: think Matt Collins was going to... I thought he kind
- 23:21Speaker 1: of avoided the major injury and But wouldn't.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It be malpractice to put a brace on him and,
- 23:27Speaker 2: you know, put him as a maybe and put him
- 23:28Speaker 2: on the bike if it was a severe sprain?
- 23:30Speaker 8: I mean, Logan Wing has played with a torn ACL.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know enough. Like,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I don't, I'm not, I don't, we don't know enough
- 23:37Speaker 1: about the injury yet, but I, I don't know. I'm
- 23:41Speaker 1: not counting on Will Campbell playing the next.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I'm not either.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I'm not either.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I just thought that was interesting.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:50Speaker 3: But the injuries are starting to pile up a little bit.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But guys will also come in. I got to think,
- 23:57Speaker 3: you know, A.J. Brown is coming sooner or later. I mean,
- 23:59Speaker 3: if it's not this week, it's going to be soon.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You know, the cornerbacks situation, you know, they got to
- 24:06Speaker 3: be close. They got to be close. I liked your
- 24:08Speaker 3: theory about, you know, through a playoff game, maybe one
- 24:12Speaker 3: or both of those guys could have played.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. Or if the Raiders had
- 24:15Speaker 1: any receivers.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:17Speaker 3: That's part of what we were talking about in the
- 24:19Speaker 3: postgame when Fred brought it up. It was like, and
- 24:21Speaker 3: they don't have any real wide receivers. So if you
- 24:24Speaker 3: had to pick a game that you didn't have your
- 24:25Speaker 3: starting two corners, that would be it because they don't
- 24:28Speaker 3: really have anything to threaten you with.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Deuce has some news, I think. My doctor friend must
- 24:33Speaker 1: be listening.
- 24:33Speaker 8: He sent me a quick tweet and just said, low-grade
- 24:35Speaker 8: MCL stationary bike is used for.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Maintaining range of motion and decreases in pain.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Okay, so you put him on there whether or not
- 24:45Speaker 2: you thought he.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Was going to play. Maybe to keep the swelling down.
- 24:49Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think that piece of it, like I was talking
- 24:53Speaker 1: about the patience that McDaniel's paying off, Vrabel's ability to
- 24:58Speaker 1: just kind of not panic and just be like, yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 1: we'll just put Charles Woods and Kendall Vildor out there
- 25:03Speaker 1: and we'll be fine. It's like, you know, that to
- 25:06Speaker 1: me is impressive that he's able to, like, hold his
- 25:09Speaker 1: water like that.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Can I get just a quick thing on, like, the
- 25:12Speaker 3: cornerback situation? Mike and I talked about this a little
- 25:14Speaker 3: bit when he wasn't yelling at me off air. Evan
- 25:18Speaker 3: just talked about it. Like, so, Charles Woods and Kendall Vildor.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Those are your next two corners. Like, I know there
- 25:24Speaker 3: was a lot of talk of... I mean, they're missing
- 25:27Speaker 3: four corners in this game. Like, Channing Canada and Karan
- 25:30Speaker 3: Prunty are special team players.
- 25:32Speaker 15: Right.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Like, they haven't really gotten any meaningful snaps. They might
- 25:36Speaker 3: have mopped up in some of these games at the
- 25:38Speaker 3: end of the game. Maybe one or both of those
- 25:40Speaker 3: guys was on the field at the end of the
- 25:41Speaker 3: Jacksonville game, as an example, when you have some backups
- 25:45Speaker 3: in there. But, like, once you get the three starting corners, Gonzalez, Davis,
- 25:51Speaker 3: Marcus Jones, right? Charles Woods is clearly number four. The
- 25:56Speaker 3: next guy after that is Kendall Vildor. I know he
- 25:59Speaker 3: was on the practice squad, and people, I think, incorrectly
- 26:03Speaker 3: sometimes deem that he's behind Prunty in Canada on the
- 26:07Speaker 3: death shot.
- 26:08Speaker 1: No, he's not.
- 26:09Speaker 3: He's a veteran who can go on the practice squad,
- 26:12Speaker 3: and the rookie is going to get claimed off for waivers, potentially.
- 26:17Speaker 3: That's roster gymnastics. Mike Brown and Kendall Vildor were on
- 26:22Speaker 3: the practice squad. But they weren't necessarily behind guys that
- 26:25Speaker 3: were on the active roster on the depth chart.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Like, if somebody has to play meaningful snaps.
- 26:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Like, it didn't surprise me, in other words, that Kendall
- 26:33Speaker 3: Vildor was the guy playing meaningful.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I think he played 44 plays the other day.
- 26:36Speaker 2: He's a veteran.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And he played well.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And, you know, the growth of the practice squad to,
- 26:41Speaker 2: what is it, 16 now?
- 26:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 3: And they have 17 because of the international depth.
- 26:45Speaker 2: It gives teams a lot of flexibility to move guys
- 26:48Speaker 2: up and down.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Up and down from the 53.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And the fact that you can have veterans on the practice.
- 26:52Speaker 3: You used to, if you had more than two years
- 26:54Speaker 3: experience or the third year, you couldn't be eligible.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Now anybody's eligible to be on the practice squad. Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 2: so I think people are still thinking in those terms.
- 27:01Speaker 2: The practice squad is not that anymore.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Well, it's both.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It's really a reserve roster. It's a reserve roster.
- 27:09Speaker 3: You have a half dozen guys that you need.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 3: You know, Land Larrison's probably going to be on this week.
- 27:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 9: Right?
- 27:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 3: You're going to need another running back with Trevion Henderson out.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Landon Larrison's one of those guys. He'll come up and he'll,
- 27:22Speaker 3: you know.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That's what I wonder.
- 27:24Speaker 8: Who's the guy that just worked out that was out
- 27:25Speaker 8: of the league?
- 27:26Speaker 10: Jamal Williams.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Jamal Williams.
- 27:27Speaker 8: How do you split between going to get a veteran
- 27:30Speaker 8: who's played and been out of the league for a
- 27:32Speaker 8: year versus a younger guy?
- 27:33Speaker 1: You know, I wonder how you do that kind of balance.
- 27:36Speaker 1: It's also like you were talking about this on Catch-22,
- 27:39Speaker 1: like Jamal Williams is– a remandre replacement like he's not
- 27:43Speaker 1: bringing speed uh you know he's not the same skill
- 27:45Speaker 1: set that travion is going to bring to the.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Table and you're not going to get that but i'll
- 27:50Speaker 2: take a remandre replacement at this point he's going to
- 27:53Speaker 2: need some some.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Yeah but breathers but remandre is going to play like
- 27:57Speaker 1: in the packages and in the situations that he always
- 27:59Speaker 1: plays it so like the guy that you're bringing in
- 28:02Speaker 1: to try to spell remandre is going to have to
- 28:04Speaker 1: be somebody that can do some different things compared to
- 28:07Speaker 1: Ramondre to play in some different situations. Like, it's not
- 28:10Speaker 1: like Dravion Henderson was really cutting into Ramondre's workload all
- 28:13Speaker 1: that much as, like, a base player. Like, somebody that
- 28:16Speaker 1: was playing, you know, on first down and stuff like that.
- 28:18Speaker 3: But they would give him periodic series where they would
- 28:21Speaker 3: just say to Ramondre, you take this series off.
- 28:24Speaker 1: And you're going to need that.
- 28:24Speaker 3: But to Evan's point, Ramondre does so many different things. Like,
- 28:28Speaker 3: it's hard to take him off the field because he's
- 28:30Speaker 3: your best— Pass protector for the running backs. He's a
- 28:34Speaker 3: good receiver. He's good in between the tackles. He's the
- 28:38Speaker 3: best at really everything that they do.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Best running back, which we keep saying. Everybody says, ooh,
- 28:43Speaker 1: he's fast.
- 28:45Speaker 8: That's what I could be talked into is saying third
- 28:47Speaker 8: down is too important. He's the only guy we really,
- 28:50Speaker 8: truly trust. We don't need to give him all the
- 28:53Speaker 8: early down carries.
- 28:54Speaker 1: We usually would. Maybe we adjust a little bit.
- 28:56Speaker 3: And if they did sign a guy like Jamal Williams,
- 28:58Speaker 3: to Evan's point, maybe you do that. Maybe you give
- 29:00Speaker 3: him a handful of first down carries. Maybe you feel
- 29:03Speaker 3: better about that than Kiner or Larrison.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I can be talked into that.
- 29:06Speaker 8: I mean, I thought, other than the fumble, I thought
- 29:08Speaker 8: Kiner looked okay.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So, I mean, there's, you know. I thought he ran
- 29:10Speaker 1: pretty well. Yeah. He fumbled the ball. That was a
- 29:13Speaker 1: bad fumble. It was a bad fumble, but he actually
- 29:16Speaker 1: made the guy miss and made the linebacker miss in
- 29:18Speaker 1: the hole. And, like, Brandon, it's a pretty good run.
- 29:20Speaker 1: You can do that? You're allowed to make guys miss?
- 29:23Speaker 1: Which is disappointing. But the other thing we were talking
- 29:25Speaker 1: about with Alex was just the– they're up to 10
- 29:28Speaker 1: guys right now on injured reserve. With Henderson and Campbell,
- 29:31Speaker 1: we'll see. You can only bring back seven more. And
- 29:36Speaker 1: so we're not, like, in danger zone yet Cause some
- 29:38Speaker 1: of those guys, like no offense, but like Khalil Jacobs,
- 29:42Speaker 1: like you do.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Some research on this.
- 29:44Speaker 6: Yes.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:45Speaker 3: So the one I know that you're, you know, Marcus
- 29:48Speaker 3: Bryan is the one that they designated because he was
- 29:50Speaker 3: the one you have to designate because it was before the,
- 29:54Speaker 3: the original 53 men. Are you bound to that because
- 29:59Speaker 3: you declared him to return? Does that have to count
- 30:01Speaker 3: as one of your eight?
- 30:02Speaker 1: I am 99% certain that it does.
- 30:04Speaker 6: Okay, yeah.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So I was actually thinking about.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I will leave the door open for being wrong.
- 30:09Speaker 3: No, I'm not. Yeah, I won't call you on it.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I won't pull a deuce and make fun of your
- 30:14Speaker 3: hook and ladder explanation.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I looked it up, and then I also consulted with
- 30:18Speaker 1: my friend Pat's Cap, and he had looked it up, too. Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 1: I think that.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Sounds right to me. But I was actually thinking about
- 30:26Speaker 3: this a little bit because they've had so many guys
- 30:28Speaker 3: on injury reserve. Like, can you afford as just an example,
- 30:33Speaker 3: can you afford to bring Bryce Baringer back? I don't
- 30:36Speaker 3: know if you can waste one of those. I'm sorry
- 30:38Speaker 3: to use that. I don't mean it disrespectfully, but you
- 30:41Speaker 3: have another punter.
- 30:42Speaker 2: You've got to get rid of him if you do.
- 30:44Speaker 3: No, but what I'm saying is that's one of your
- 30:46Speaker 3: return guys. You're going to waste one of those. You
- 30:48Speaker 3: need A.J. Brown to be one of your return guys.
- 30:50Speaker 3: You're going to need Will Campbell and Trevion Henderson potentially
- 30:52Speaker 3: to be your return. You're going to get to eight quick.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Right, and I think you get two more if you
- 30:57Speaker 1: make the playoffs. Now it's getting ahead of ourselves, but
- 31:00Speaker 1: you do get those extra two spots if you make
- 31:02Speaker 1: the playoffs, the extra two return spots, but Hollins, Gilliam, A.J. Brown, Henderson, Campbell,
- 31:10Speaker 1: if both those guys go on the roster, when they're healthy,
- 31:12Speaker 1: they're coming back. That's a lock for them to come back.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I wish that big Mike couldn't come back, but I'm
- 31:18Speaker 1: not optimistic about that one. Maybe in the playoffs, if
- 31:21Speaker 1: they get to the playoffs and they go on a run.
- 31:23Speaker 1: So those five guys, and then Marcus Bryant counts, if
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm correct, so then you really only have.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Two extra spots to play with. And that's my point
- 31:32Speaker 3: about Barringer. No disrespect to him or the position, but
- 31:36Speaker 3: you might have guys that are more pressing needs.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Or like Q Hutchins and Khalil Jacobs. And we don't
- 31:41Speaker 1: punt anymore anyway. Van Roten. Van Roten. Del Pettis. You know,
- 31:44Speaker 1: like Del Pettis.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Del Pettis might be one of those guys.
- 31:47Speaker 8: Del Pettis is a great one because he's one that, like,
- 31:49Speaker 8: he's not that starter guy, but I think you'd kind
- 31:52Speaker 8: of like to have him.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And Mike Brown's had some struggles in special teams, has
- 31:54Speaker 1: a couple penalties.
- 31:55Speaker 3: A couple of penalties, and that's the spot.
- 31:57Speaker 9: Yep.
- 31:58Speaker 2: By the way, Jacket and Arbor writes in about the
- 32:00Speaker 2: hook and ladder. It was invented by Dr. Jock Sutherland,
- 32:05Speaker 2: coach of the University of Pittsburgh in the 1930s. The
- 32:08Speaker 2: original name of the play was Hook and Ladder. The
- 32:10Speaker 2: name Hook and Ladder developed by popular misunderstanding because it
- 32:14Speaker 2: sounds like hook and ladder and is a popular name of.
- 32:18Speaker 1: A type of a fire truck. I'm sticking with Hook
- 32:20Speaker 1: and Ladder.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I knew there was a fire truck reference in there somewhere.
- 32:25Speaker 1: There we go.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Good info.
- 32:27Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Hook and Ladder, but we're going to call it Hook
- 32:30Speaker 1: and Ladder.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I like that.
- 32:31Speaker 3: I think that's... What most people call it. Doesn't make
- 32:35Speaker 3: it right, but I think that's what we're going to do.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That's what I'm calling it.
- 32:41Speaker 2: What other remnants do you have from the game? Defense.
- 32:44Speaker 6: Defense.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 8: Man, I thought Milton Williams was kind of berserker mode
- 32:50Speaker 8: in this one. I think he has a different level
- 32:52Speaker 8: than him. He just was playing with high energy. I
- 32:56Speaker 8: really like him.
- 32:57Speaker 1: You know what I mean? He has certain games. I
- 32:58Speaker 1: felt like last year against him.
- 33:01Speaker 8: Where he just was like hair on fire, like not
- 33:03Speaker 8: refusing to be blocked a lot. And, you know, the
- 33:08Speaker 8: secondary did a pretty good job, I thought, you know,
- 33:10Speaker 8: filling in without those guys.
- 33:11Speaker 1: But just edge guys, you know. Yeah, Melvin Williams, I
- 33:17Speaker 1: kind of thought the first four weeks of the season
- 33:19Speaker 1: that I didn't watch him on film and thought that
- 33:23Speaker 1: he had lost a step. He just was getting double
- 33:26Speaker 1: teamed a lot and that type of stuff. And then
- 33:29Speaker 1: this week they doubled him a little bit less. And
- 33:33Speaker 1: the stats and the pressures and all that stuff started
- 33:36Speaker 1: to come out. So I was never overly concerned about
- 33:39Speaker 1: him not having great production. But what impressed me the
- 33:43Speaker 1: most about the defense was how they were able to
- 33:46Speaker 1: disguise things in the back end, despite being down two
- 33:49Speaker 1: of their corners. You know, that's a credit to the
- 33:51Speaker 1: coaching staff and credit to Charles Woods and Kindle Vildor
- 33:54Speaker 1: like to be able to. spin the dial on on
- 33:58Speaker 1: an offense on Kirk Cousins when those guys like, you know,
- 34:01Speaker 1: haven't necessarily gotten the reps and starters and haven't played
- 34:05Speaker 1: a ton in games. And you're still running some of
- 34:08Speaker 1: the exotic stuff that they've ran, you know, with their
- 34:10Speaker 1: their regular core guys. That's really hard to do. And
- 34:13Speaker 1: they did it at a really high level. And it
- 34:16Speaker 1: was impressive, you know, early on in this game. they
- 34:18Speaker 1: ran four cover zeros in the first couple of drives
- 34:22Speaker 1: of the game to heat Cousins up, but then they
- 34:24Speaker 1: started to fall out of it. They would show the
- 34:26Speaker 1: cover zero pre-snap, and then they would drop into zone
- 34:28Speaker 1: out of it. To be able to get to cover three,
- 34:31Speaker 1: cover two, different coverages out of those shells, that takes practice,
- 34:37Speaker 1: that takes repetition, that takes communication. And Justin Hamilton and
- 34:42Speaker 1: Scott Booker and Zach Korr, those corners were ready to play.
- 34:47Speaker 1: They were ready to play and do those types of things.
- 34:50Speaker 1: So credit to all those guys because they had cousins
- 34:53Speaker 1: in a blender. He didn't know what he was looking at.
- 34:55Speaker 8: I just think they're a well-coached defense. They look like
- 34:58Speaker 8: a well-coached defense to me. They look like they play together.
- 35:01Speaker 8: They play on a string. They might not have the
- 35:05Speaker 8: A-plus elite level kind of talent, guys, but I think
- 35:08Speaker 8: when everybody plays together and does their job, It just
- 35:11Speaker 8: allows everybody to make plays.
- 35:13Speaker 3: And sort of recognizing the differences, too. You couldn't get
- 35:17Speaker 3: much more of a stark contrast between Buffalo and the
- 35:20Speaker 3: Raiders in terms of your approach. And I agree with Evan.
- 35:23Speaker 3: I thought that they started the game exactly the way
- 35:27Speaker 3: we talked about in the pregame show, Mike. They're going
- 35:30Speaker 3: to get after him. They're going to get the ball out.
- 35:33Speaker 3: And unfortunately for Cousins and the Raiders, they had opportunities
- 35:37Speaker 3: and just couldn't do it. They don't have the personnel
- 35:40Speaker 3: other than Brock Bowers to really hurt you on some
- 35:43Speaker 3: of those plays. And then once they established, well, we
- 35:46Speaker 3: can get pressure on you anytime we want, Evan's right.
- 35:49Speaker 1: They sort of changed things up a little bit.
- 35:52Speaker 3: I thought Cousins was fine in the game, but they
- 35:54Speaker 3: just didn't have anybody to threaten you.
- 35:57Speaker 1: The lack of answers for cover zero to me is like,
- 36:01Speaker 1: a little bit on cousins and a little bit on Kubiak.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Like he's a 38 year old quarterback. Like he's a,
- 36:06Speaker 1: that's his, his brain is supposed to be what's driving
- 36:09Speaker 1: this whole thing. Kevin Byard came unblocked like two or
- 36:13Speaker 1: three times off the edge.
- 36:14Speaker 3: And that was one of the plays that I specifically
- 36:16Speaker 3: thought of. And Tucker has the guy down the sideline
- 36:19Speaker 3: by three steps and he throws it out of bounds.
- 36:23Speaker 3: And it just, they just didn't, in other words, they
- 36:25Speaker 3: just didn't have the, the pieces to do it. And
- 36:28Speaker 3: I think back to, as you just said, the cover zero,
- 36:31Speaker 3: I think back to the same team a year ago,
- 36:35Speaker 3: that blitz was a touchdown to Trey, Trey Tucker. You know,
- 36:37Speaker 3: he gets over the top of Jalen Hawkins in the
- 36:39Speaker 3: end zone, right underneath us in the press box.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I saw, I thought it was going to happen.
- 36:43Speaker 3: And I just think it's the difference between having a
- 36:46Speaker 3: guy who can move just a little bit and, and,
- 36:49Speaker 3: At this stage, 38-year-old Craig. And again, I didn't think
- 36:52Speaker 3: Cousins was bad in this game. But I don't think
- 36:54Speaker 3: he made any exceptional throws or plays.
- 36:56Speaker 1: It's just not the Josh Allen shrug. Shrug J. Mont
- 36:58Speaker 1: Jones off and then bang.
- 37:00Speaker 8: And throw a pick to Craig Woodson.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I like to call them tricky cover twos. JT calls
- 37:10Speaker 1: them non-traditional Tampa. That's a lot. I feel like that's
- 37:14Speaker 1: too much. It's too long. The Patriots... Disguise cover two
- 37:19Speaker 1: zones are like terrific, like some of the best in
- 37:22Speaker 1: the league. They get to Tampa in such different ways
- 37:26Speaker 1: every single week. They do a great job of disguising it.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Sometimes it's just inverted with the outside corners play the
- 37:34Speaker 1: deep part of the field. Sometimes the nickel drops and
- 37:36Speaker 1: he drops into the deep part of the field. They'll
- 37:38Speaker 1: start in, like, single high, and then they'll have Bayard
- 37:41Speaker 1: become the pull runner and then drop the corners out
- 37:43Speaker 1: and have them play the two safeties over the top. Like,
- 37:47Speaker 1: they get to all sorts of different ways of that.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And even a quarterback like Cousins who's seen it all,
- 37:51Speaker 1: he was flummoxed. Like, he didn't know what he was
- 37:53Speaker 1: looking at.
- 37:54Speaker 2: I mean, we know Zach Kaur is the coordinator, but
- 37:57Speaker 2: how much input do you think Vrabel has in this defense?
- 38:00Speaker 1: I think the system is Vrabel's. I think the higher level, like,
- 38:05Speaker 1: what's our identity, what's, like, our, you know... what's our base.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I think those things are probably Vrabel over the years
- 38:13Speaker 1: that he's built up over the years. I do think
- 38:16Speaker 1: that Corre, though, is the one that's putting together the
- 38:19Speaker 1: plan and calling the plays on Sundays. Booker's probably got
- 38:22Speaker 1: some input on those tricky twos. Yeah, but they are
- 38:25Speaker 1: really dialing it up defensively. It's fun to watch. All right.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I had an email teed up, and I lost it.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Oh, shoot.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Yeah, my fat fingers. All right, 855-PATS-500 is the hotline.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Let's go. The phones are stacked up here. I want
- 38:46Speaker 2: to get some people in that we don't always hear from.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Let's go to Isaac in North Dakota. What's up, Isaac?
- 38:54Speaker 9: What's up, guys?
- 38:55Speaker 11: How are you guys doing?
- 38:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:59Speaker 10: I just wanted to shout out the coaching staff for
- 39:02Speaker 10: the Patriots.
- 39:02Speaker 9: I think that this coaching staff has really shown itself,
- 39:06Speaker 9: especially the wide receiver coach, Todd Downing.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Okay, yeah. Yeah, Josh is giving them credit, too.
- 39:13Speaker 11: I just think that.
- 39:13Speaker 9: This coaching– I'm just saying I would like to keep
- 39:16Speaker 9: this coaching staff together as long as possible. I think
- 39:18Speaker 9: that's something that you can't really say for a lot
- 39:20Speaker 9: of teams, and it's impressive what this coaching staff has done,
- 39:24Speaker 9: especially with the injuries.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 39:28Speaker 11: Yeah, that's it.
- 39:29Speaker 14: So I encourage taking the call.
- 39:31Speaker 10: All right.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Shout out to the coaches.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people went
- 39:35Speaker 3: into the season feeling that that was the deepest position group,
- 39:38Speaker 3: and I think that's been borne out. It's certainly one
- 39:40Speaker 3: of the deepest, if not. You know, corner is another
- 39:43Speaker 3: one that we sort of talked about a little bit. But, yeah,
- 39:46Speaker 3: I mean, I think I– Kind of got a little
- 39:50Speaker 3: snippy a couple weeks ago when we kept talking about
- 39:52Speaker 3: all the wide receivers and, you know, they need to
- 39:56Speaker 3: go out and get this guy or they need to
- 39:57Speaker 3: get Marvin Harrison. They need to see if they can
- 40:00Speaker 3: get Booty back. And I was like, no, they have enough.
- 40:03Speaker 3: They have enough with what they have. They just have
- 40:05Speaker 3: to play better. The receivers have to be better and
- 40:07Speaker 3: the quarterback, more importantly, has to be better.
- 40:09Speaker 1: And you see it.
- 40:10Speaker 3: There was no shortage of options in the passing game
- 40:13Speaker 3: the other day.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I thought it was interesting.
- 40:15Speaker 8: Zach Kor at his press conference on Thursday just talking
- 40:18Speaker 8: about Last year was also new, a lot of new
- 40:20Speaker 8: free agents, a lot of coaches from different places. And,
- 40:23Speaker 8: you know, he felt like it took them a little
- 40:25Speaker 8: while to really start to figure out who they were,
- 40:27Speaker 8: how they were going to do things. And now they're
- 40:29Speaker 8: starting from a much higher level. And I think that
- 40:32Speaker 8: that's what we're seeing. You know, it kind of goes
- 40:34Speaker 8: back to what Evan was saying of, you know, is
- 40:36Speaker 8: that different on the defensive side of the ball? Though schematically,
- 40:38Speaker 8: do you try to come into the into the season
- 40:40Speaker 8: with we got instant curveballs right out of the gate?
- 40:44Speaker 8: I think that's probably played out a little bit more
- 40:47Speaker 8: like that, that they've.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Been a little bit more diverse, schematically great since the
- 40:51Speaker 1: very first game of the season. And they, I just
- 40:54Speaker 1: give a lot of credit to the assistants because like,
- 40:57Speaker 1: not to take any of the credit away from like
- 40:59Speaker 1: Mike Rabel, but like, Kendall Vildor and Charles Woods and
- 41:03Speaker 1: those guys like Justin Hamilton is the one that's working
- 41:05Speaker 1: with those players behind the scenes. That's not Christian Gonzalez
- 41:08Speaker 1: and Carlton Davis and Marcus Jones.
- 41:10Speaker 15: Right.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Like that.
- 41:11Speaker 1: So those guys are on the practice squad. They're on
- 41:13Speaker 1: scout team.
- 41:14Speaker 6: They're on.
- 41:14Speaker 1: They're doing different things like that. And the assistant coaches
- 41:18Speaker 1: are the ones that are preparing them like starters and
- 41:21Speaker 1: making sure that those guys are are ready to play. And,
- 41:24Speaker 1: you know, so they deserve a lot of credit. The
- 41:26Speaker 1: whole coaching staff does for for getting all the guys ready.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Chris with a T-I-A-N. What's up, Christian?
- 41:33Speaker 5: Wow, what a difference a few weeks makes, huh?
- 41:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 6: Two.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yeah, two.
- 41:38Speaker 10: It's been incredible. I called a few weeks ago and
- 41:40Speaker 10: I think about guys like Douglas and Chisholm and, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 10: Williams having to step up. And they've done that over
- 41:48Speaker 10: the past two weeks. I mean, get open and catch
- 41:50Speaker 10: the ball. Like, just so important. That's all we needed
- 41:54Speaker 10: them to do, right?
- 41:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:55Speaker 10: And obviously, you know, May is back to being May,
- 41:58Speaker 10: but I really think the wide receivers, you know, especially
- 42:02Speaker 10: with all the guys that are out, we're seeing what
- 42:06Speaker 10: we saw in camp with these guys making great catches
- 42:09Speaker 10: and making plays.
- 42:10Speaker 11: I am still a.
- 42:11Speaker 10: Little worried about Dorfkiner, and I wanted to get your
- 42:13Speaker 10: thoughts on that. You know, there was a lot of,
- 42:16Speaker 10: I mean, he had two big penalties in the game,
- 42:18Speaker 10: which is great, but it was like a flag turn
- 42:20Speaker 10: every other play in this game. But I am kind
- 42:23Speaker 10: of worried about him, like his inconsistency, and wanted to
- 42:25Speaker 10: get your thoughts about that.
- 42:27Speaker 5: And I'll hang up and listen.
- 42:29Speaker 1: All right. I want to give some flowers to Pop,
- 42:32Speaker 1: Pop Douglas, because they played it in the open. They
- 42:35Speaker 1: went back and forth about this the other day. That
- 42:37Speaker 1: was probably the best route running game I've ever seen
- 42:40Speaker 1: Pop play. Like, he was on it. Like, fourth down,
- 42:45Speaker 1: need two yards, a little quick out, ran a great route,
- 42:48Speaker 1: got open against man coverage.
- 42:50Speaker 2: What do you think happened?
- 42:51Speaker 1: Why is that? I think he's just locked in. I
- 42:54Speaker 1: think that, you know, these details, you know, Mike Rabel
- 42:57Speaker 1: said yesterday he used the Paul line and said that
- 42:59Speaker 1: was a professional football player.
- 43:00Speaker 3: I was going to ask you if you were listening
- 43:02Speaker 3: to that. I looked at Mike and I.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Go, that's my line. That's exactly what it was. Like,
- 43:06Speaker 1: they spun it into cover two. He found the soft spot,
- 43:09Speaker 1: made himself quickly available.
- 43:11Speaker 6: Yep.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Sat it down. Boom. I was like, yes, there we go.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Leaned on him a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. And obviously
- 43:18Speaker 1: like the first touchdown is a coverage bust. And but
- 43:21Speaker 1: the second touchdown, he's running out, you know, pick, you know,
- 43:25Speaker 1: kind of rub route concept with Hunter Henry. And he
- 43:27Speaker 1: runs the route and gets his guy picked and is
- 43:30Speaker 1: wide open. Good thing, you know. And so he's just
- 43:32Speaker 1: the details that he ran routes with. You know, that's
- 43:36Speaker 1: exactly what you're looking for. And Chisholm did the same thing. But,
- 43:39Speaker 1: you know, Pop, I think, deserves a lot of credit.
- 43:42Speaker 1: BB in New Hampshire.
- 43:44Speaker 2: What horrible vitriol from Mr.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Dussault.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Fred, I can't believe you would tolerate such verbal violence
- 43:50Speaker 2: in the workplace. Paul, I hope you can recover from
- 43:53Speaker 2: such a tirade.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Maybe there's a shock blanket around. Hanging around somewhere. Side note,
- 43:58Speaker 2: Evan definitely sounds sick.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I blame Barth. Yeah. So I blame Barth, too, because
- 44:03Speaker 1: Barth is home with a fever right now.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I know.
- 44:05Speaker 1: So he's actually sick. And the fact that you're sick, too,
- 44:08Speaker 1: I know you got it from him. No, I don't feel. But, like,
- 44:12Speaker 1: I have. It's my voice. My voice is crappy.
- 44:16Speaker 3: That is his moneymaker, that voice.
- 44:18Speaker 2: That voice.
- 44:19Speaker 1: I mean, you know.
- 44:20Speaker 3: The velvety tones.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I talk a lot. I talk a lot for a living.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I thought yesterday was your grind to film day. What
- 44:26Speaker 1: were you talking yesterday? It was, and I was very quiet.
- 44:29Speaker 1: And Jess was like, what's wrong? And I was like,
- 44:30Speaker 1: I'm in the lab. I was like, my voice is going,
- 44:33Speaker 1: and I can feel it, so I'm trying not to
- 44:35Speaker 1: use it.
- 44:35Speaker 2: You should get an insurance policy on that voice. Lloyd's
- 44:38Speaker 2: of London.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 5: Really?
- 44:40Speaker 1: I need to drink more tea, is what I've been told.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Can we talk a little bit about Christian's question about Dobbs, though?
- 44:45Speaker 1: Because I'm a little frustrated. I was just going to
- 44:47Speaker 1: try to gloss over that part.
- 44:48Speaker 2: No, I'm just.
- 44:48Speaker 8: Frustrated because I just don't like when guys lull you
- 44:51Speaker 8: into a sense of security and then they, and then
- 44:54Speaker 8: they drop them and.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Then they catch them and then they drop them.
- 44:56Speaker 3: He's been inconsistent.
- 44:57Speaker 1: No, inconsistent. And that's just, I would just say, but
- 45:00Speaker 1: you got to use them correctly.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I'm just, yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to be
- 45:04Speaker 3: a little, I'm going to be a little bit defensive
- 45:06Speaker 3: of him. I thought in Buffalo, you saw a lot
- 45:09Speaker 3: of outbreaking routes, you know, the routes in the end zone,
- 45:12Speaker 3: you know, sort of backline cut, cutting in. This game,
- 45:16Speaker 3: it was back to he was trying to fill the A.J.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Brown role a little bit, and he's getting vertical all
- 45:21Speaker 3: the time. I'm not just saying, well, that's not really
- 45:26Speaker 3: the kind of receiver he is, so he shouldn't catch that.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I think he should have caught the ball in the
- 45:29Speaker 3: end zone. I think he had two hands on it.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I think he should catch that. We saw him make
- 45:33Speaker 3: that catch a lot in training camp. He didn't make
- 45:35Speaker 3: it in this game. So I'm not absolving him of
- 45:38Speaker 3: any responsibilities. I like him better. Going back to the
- 45:41Speaker 3: Vrabel quote on these professional plays on fourth down, that
- 45:46Speaker 3: was him in Buffalo. The quick out, uncovers immediately with
- 45:50Speaker 3: a good route, strong hands, bang, first down routine. I
- 45:53Speaker 3: like him in that kind of a role. I don't
- 45:55Speaker 3: necessarily like him 35, 40 yards downfield. I know that
- 45:59Speaker 3: he had some success doing it that way in Green Bay.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I don't look at him as a separator on those routes.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I worry more about his ability to finish through contact
- 46:08Speaker 1: than to separate. it's like at the NFL level, you're
- 46:12Speaker 1: going to have to finish through contact at the catch point.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Like it's not going to be clean every single time
- 46:16Speaker 1: that you're going to be five yards open. Like you are,
- 46:18Speaker 1: you know, in college or whatever, or somehow pop Douglas
- 46:22Speaker 1: got on the first touchdown of the game. But like I,
- 46:25Speaker 1: in all three of those catches that you're from Sunday's game,
- 46:28Speaker 1: I'm with you about the vertical route stuff, but like,
- 46:31Speaker 1: you know, he, he's got his hands on the ball.
- 46:33Speaker 3: I'm not absolving him of responsibility.
- 46:36Speaker 1: And like, You would like to see him be a
- 46:38Speaker 1: little bit sturdier at the catch point and fight through
- 46:41Speaker 1: some of that contact and finish some of those catches. Absolutely.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Absolutely fair.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Franklin in Baltimore says, I disagree just a bit with Mike.
- 46:49Speaker 2: I thought the running game did matter on Sunday in
- 46:52Speaker 2: the sense that it's really the first game where I
- 46:54Speaker 2: thought it was consistently effective through four quarters. Because of that,
- 46:58Speaker 2: the Raiders' pass rush was neutralized, which in turn allowed
- 47:01Speaker 2: May to be patient and see the whole field. Despite
- 47:03Speaker 2: the sub-100 game, I thought Ramondre, in particular, looked the
- 47:07Speaker 2: best he has all season because he hit holes decisively.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Well, I would say Ramondre ran exceptionally well in this
- 47:13Speaker 1: game by avoiding people in the backfield.
- 47:16Speaker 3: I'm just looking. The numbers don't really back that up.
- 47:20Speaker 3: I agree with you that Ramondre ran well, and I
- 47:23Speaker 3: agree with the emailer, but I didn't think the running
- 47:24Speaker 3: game opened anything up for the passing game.
- 47:27Speaker 1: He had like four or five runs that should have
- 47:29Speaker 1: been tackles for loss that he dodged tacklers in the
- 47:31Speaker 1: backfield there. especially that 12 yard run was, that was
- 47:35Speaker 1: a really good run.
- 47:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 3: And they had some select runs that were important at
- 47:39Speaker 3: the time. Like he had, and I think that on
- 47:42Speaker 3: the two minute drill, they did, you know, me and
- 47:45Speaker 3: Evan were joking about it. It's like the, the Charlie Weiss,
- 47:48Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels before the two minute warning, you know, kick
- 47:51Speaker 3: off the two minute drill drive with a, with a run.
- 47:54Speaker 3: And he broke a couple.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:56Speaker 3: And made it easy. Cause you got, you get down there.
- 48:00Speaker 3: They didn't line up and, soften up the pass rush
- 48:03Speaker 3: with the running game in this game. The numbers look great.
- 48:05Speaker 1: At the end of the day.
- 48:06Speaker 3: I think the numbers are a little deceptive. The numbers
- 48:09Speaker 3: look great. I mean, Corey Kiner had like a 35-yard
- 48:12Speaker 3: run when the game was over. Drake had a couple
- 48:15Speaker 3: of runs. I thought Stevenson was his normal, really workmanlike self.
- 48:22Speaker 3: And that was important. I thought Stevenson was good in
- 48:24Speaker 3: this game.
- 48:24Speaker 1: All right.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Time for a break because my food's here. We've got
- 48:28Speaker 2: a lot of calls stacked up. We'll get to as

- 50:35Speaker 10: There were some reports last night that.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Will might miss some time.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Do you anticipate that as well?
- 50:44Speaker 4: I mean, we'll see how the week goes. I mean,
- 50:46Speaker 4: it'll get looked at and continue to... Rehab wasn't able
- 50:51Speaker 4: to finish the game. So, I mean, I don't know
- 50:53Speaker 4: how much time he'll miss. If he'll be back towards
- 50:55Speaker 4: the end of the week or be back Wednesday. But
- 50:58Speaker 4: we'll take it day by day and see how he
- 51:00Speaker 4: feels tomorrow, see what he does Wednesday, and keep you
- 51:03Speaker 4: updated on the injury report.
- 51:05Speaker 15: With Caleb stepping in for him, how beneficial do you
- 51:08Speaker 15: think the month.
- 51:10Speaker 10: To kind of get acclimated was for him as he
- 51:12Speaker 10: now potentially takes on a bigger role?
- 51:15Speaker 4: I mean, I think that all the time that they
- 51:17Speaker 4: have to be able to get some game action, whether
- 51:22Speaker 4: that's at the jumbo tight end or getting some snaps
- 51:26Speaker 4: in there at different times of practice and being able
- 51:28Speaker 4: to work on both sides is critical. I think that's
- 51:31Speaker 4: something that the swing tackle has to be able to
- 51:33Speaker 4: do and be ready to go in the game. I
- 51:36Speaker 4: know he's working hard and he's going to try to
- 51:38Speaker 4: take advantage of whatever opportunity comes his way. What did
- 51:40Speaker 4: he do while you were sitting, Mike? I don't think
- 51:43Speaker 4: it was too big for him. I think he was
- 51:45Speaker 4: able to settle down and he didn't really notice himself
- 51:51Speaker 4: a lot. So I think that's probably a good thing. Um,
- 51:54Speaker 4: I know it was able to anchor at times on
- 51:57Speaker 4: some power and all Drake to, to be able to
- 52:03Speaker 4: transfer up into the pocket. And, and, you know, I
- 52:06Speaker 4: thought that worked together well with ABT when they got
- 52:09Speaker 4: in there and, Those are going to be some things
- 52:12Speaker 4: that whatever combinations of guys that we have, whether it's
- 52:16Speaker 4: Ben and Jared or it's Ben and Morgan or Ben
- 52:20Speaker 4: and Caleb, and just being able to work together with
- 52:22Speaker 4: the guy next to you and try to help each
- 52:25Speaker 4: other do their job.
- 52:25Speaker 15: Just to build on that, Mike, it looks like those
- 52:28Speaker 15: guys had a few of those games.
- 52:30Speaker 1: From the Raiders up front, sorted out pretty well yesterday.
- 52:33Speaker 1: What's the key to communicating on those and making.
- 52:35Speaker 6: Sure you have them?
- 52:36Speaker 4: Well, I think it's just making sure that you're protecting
- 52:38Speaker 4: the guy next to you, being able to protect the
- 52:40Speaker 4: guy as somebody's penetrating, to be able to flatten that
- 52:45Speaker 4: guy off and understand based on alignments or splits or
- 52:49Speaker 4: stances that something like that may be coming. So certainly
- 52:53Speaker 4: want to have some pre-snap communication, pre-snap awareness, and then
- 52:58Speaker 4: at the end of the day, it's about protecting the
- 53:01Speaker 4: guy next to you and being able to flatten the
- 53:03Speaker 4: guy out, use your length. And, you know, that'll, that'll
- 53:07Speaker 4: do a lot to help the games and the, and
- 53:10Speaker 4: making sure that the penetrator doesn't get in to the crease.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Is there a chance that AJ Brown could come back
- 53:16Speaker 3: this week?
- 53:16Speaker 6: There's a chance. Yeah, there is.
- 53:20Speaker 1: What would he bring to your offense if he does
- 53:23Speaker 1: make his way back?
- 53:25Speaker 6: I mean, I think just helping to add to the,
- 53:27Speaker 6: you know, production.
- 53:28Speaker 4: I think that's, All you want from the receivers is
- 53:31Speaker 4: that they're a productive group, that they win one-on-one matchups,
- 53:35Speaker 4: contested catches, create separation, give quarterbacks confidence and.
- 53:42Speaker 6: Places to go with football.
- 53:44Speaker 4: You know, when you talk about production, I think that
- 53:48Speaker 4: the unit was productive yesterday.
- 53:49Speaker 6: They all contributed. So that was real positive.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Chisholm's a lot of role play.
- 53:58Speaker 3: I know you said on the radio this morning you
- 53:59Speaker 3: made some stuff up, but it also kind of sounded
- 54:01Speaker 3: like it could have been a little design.
- 54:02Speaker 6: What do you think, Soph?
- 54:05Speaker 1: I honestly don't know. I feel like we've gotten different answers.
- 54:08Speaker 3: Was it a design play though?
- 54:14Speaker 6: Yes. Okay.
- 54:14Speaker 8: Everything happens so fast after the game and you get
- 54:16Speaker 8: in there and give these game balls out.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Here's how you decide in the moment and then. Like,
- 54:22Speaker 1: do you ever get to the other side and be like, oh, man,
- 54:24Speaker 1: I wish I gave one to.
- 54:25Speaker 6: Yeah, probably the offensive line or the group. You know
- 54:28Speaker 6: what I'm saying? I just think that, again, we're not perfect.
- 54:31Speaker 4: And in that moment, I know that they're trying not
- 54:33Speaker 4: to listen to me and I'm not trying to be
- 54:35Speaker 4: around them any longer than.
- 54:36Speaker 6: I have to.
- 54:37Speaker 4: And everybody wants to get showered and figure out what
- 54:40Speaker 4: they're going to do with the rest of the couple
- 54:42Speaker 4: hours that they have.
- 54:43Speaker 6: And so, you know, whether it's the O-line or pop and,
- 54:48Speaker 6: you know, I just.
- 54:51Speaker 6: We'll recognize those guys when.
- 54:52Speaker 4: We get the players in here again on Wednesday in
- 54:56Speaker 4: a formal setting. Everybody's watching tape here with their units
- 54:59Speaker 4: and their groups. We'll have more of a formal setting
- 55:02Speaker 4: on Wednesday to be able to recognize those guys.
- 55:06Speaker 6: I'll try to be better in those opportunities.
- 55:09Speaker 1: To be honest, the Kendall thing is just a great
- 55:15Speaker 1: part of football. The guy's on the practice squad and
- 55:18Speaker 1: he P.B.U.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Gets a big punch out there, changes momentum, helps us
- 55:26Speaker 4: get the drive stopped. I think one of the coaches
- 55:30Speaker 4: was talking and said, well, he had a mental error
- 55:33Speaker 4: on the play, but he also had an extra effort.
- 55:37Speaker 4: I think that really defines what we want our identity
- 55:39Speaker 4: to be, is the ability to have an error or
- 55:42Speaker 4: a mistake, but also the ability to go finish and
- 55:46Speaker 4: still impact the play and know that that a mental
- 55:50Speaker 4: error doesn't have to necessarily mean that the play is
- 55:53Speaker 4: over or a mistake.
- 55:55Speaker 6: It certainly doesn't limit our ability to finish. When you
- 55:58Speaker 6: were talking.
- 55:58Speaker 3: About the wide receivers' unselfishness yesterday, you said, I've got
- 56:01Speaker 3: to get the whole team to look at it that way.
- 56:03Speaker 8: Do you think there are some players or position groups
- 56:06Speaker 8: where they're a little bit.
- 56:07Speaker 4: I mean, I think just it's hard to get 70
- 56:10Speaker 4: guys to believe that, you know, and to understand that.
- 56:13Speaker 6: And do I think that we have a high majority? Yeah.
- 56:16Speaker 4: And whatever's left on that and we'll continue to chip away.
- 56:20Speaker 4: It'll never be perfect, but certainly that, uh, that willingness
- 56:25Speaker 4: to help each other, to be excited about each other's success, uh,
- 56:28Speaker 4: work as a unit, um, push each other, challenge each other,
- 56:33Speaker 4: but also care for each other.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Touchdown.
- 56:36Speaker 8: What does it say to someone like Morgan Moses who
- 56:39Speaker 8: had the penalty right before it and then came back
- 56:40Speaker 8: and played such a vital part in helping Ramon get
- 56:43Speaker 8: into the end zone there?
- 56:44Speaker 4: Yeah. I, you know, the, you just have to be
- 56:47Speaker 4: ready for some of those things down there and be
- 56:48Speaker 4: ready for the movement down and down there that happens
- 56:51Speaker 4: at the, at the goal line. And, you know, again,
- 56:54Speaker 4: being able to overcome some of those negative plays or
- 56:57Speaker 4: penalties that, you know, maybe in the past it set
- 57:00Speaker 4: us back and, you know, we were able to overcome them.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:04Speaker 17: I mean, and again, we get.
- 57:05Speaker 4: Uh, You know, Cam Latu, you know, get him going.
- 57:18Speaker 4: He played in the game, played a good vital role
- 57:21Speaker 4: on special teams. Tanner got some snaps in. I think
- 57:24Speaker 4: it was good to see Eli work at the line
- 57:28Speaker 4: of scrimmage and block a little bit, but then also
- 57:31Speaker 4: be able to get out and do some things in
- 57:33Speaker 4: the pass game and things that he'll have to improve on.
- 57:36Speaker 4: But I think that it was, you know, if you're
- 57:39Speaker 4: targeted five times as a tight end.
- 57:40Speaker 6: You want five catches.
- 57:41Speaker 4: And, you know, Hunter continues to be reliable and very–
- 57:47Speaker 4: you know, comforting for everybody because he's where he's supposed
- 57:49Speaker 4: to be most of the time.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Eli's had some pretty big moments over the first five weeks.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Just what have you learned from him? What's allowed him
- 57:56Speaker 1: to step up?
- 57:57Speaker 6: Well, I mean, I think he's talented.
- 57:59Speaker 4: I think he's continuing to get more comfortable each and
- 58:02Speaker 4: every day that he sees what's kind of what this
- 58:05Speaker 4: league is about and maybe starts to have more confidence
- 58:08Speaker 4: in himself that he can do this at this level
- 58:10Speaker 4: and he can do it.
- 58:13Speaker 6: Fairly well.
- 58:14Speaker 4: I think when he knows what to do and, you know,
- 58:16Speaker 4: There's a lot of different looks that he hasn't seen
- 58:18Speaker 4: in things, defenses and defensive fronts. But I think just
- 58:23Speaker 4: continuing to improve and continue to invest in these young players.
- 58:28Speaker 1: It's Legal Seafood's Fresh Take of the Week.
- 58:36Speaker 7: All right.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Legal Seafoods is giving fans a true taste of Boston
- 58:40Speaker 2: this season as the official seafood restaurant of the New
- 58:43Speaker 2: England Patriots. Pre-game or post-game, get the seafood you love
- 58:47Speaker 2: at your local restaurant today, LegalSeafoods.com.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Paul, you got a fresh take? Yeah, I do.
- 58:55Speaker 3: This isn't going to be quite as fresh as the
- 58:57Speaker 3: takes that you get from Legal Seafood because I think
- 58:59Speaker 3: I have the actual opinion here that virtually every football
- 59:04Speaker 3: fan has. There's just far too many flags in these games.
- 59:08Speaker 3: It's really becoming tough to watch. Last night's game, Mike
- 59:12Speaker 3: tells me, 24 penalties. You know, you've got Buffalo and
- 59:15Speaker 3: the Rams, you know, two good football teams. I don't know.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Maybe the players are at fault. Maybe we're letting the
- 59:20Speaker 3: players off the hook. They should start seeing if they
- 59:22Speaker 3: can have some of these plays go on without committing
- 59:25Speaker 3: an inflection.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Clean it up a little bit. Clean it up, but.
- 59:28Speaker 3: I think it's become a problem, and I just lean
- 59:32Speaker 3: back on my disdain for the replay system and the
- 59:36Speaker 3: way that they do it. I think the officials are
- 59:38Speaker 3: getting affected by it. It's even seeping into college.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Too, Fred.
- 59:43Speaker 3: The big Alabama-Georgia game basically decided by a missed pass
- 59:47Speaker 3: interference call, one of the rare times they didn't throw
- 59:49Speaker 3: the flag that they should have. I was rooting for
- 59:54Speaker 3: Georgia in the game, but they benefited from it. clearly
- 59:57Speaker 3: a pass interference. They've got to do something about it.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: The officiating, I think, is causing some problems in these games.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Well, if you watch Patriots Unfiltered this week on TV,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: I might have a solution for that.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Why don't you just tell me what the solution is?
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: No, you've got to watch Patriots Unfiltered on TV.
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: I felt like in the press box this weekend, whether
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: you were a Raiders employee or a Patriots employee or
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: a media member covering the team, that everyone... was holding
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: hands about the stupid calls.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: And, like, there were calls that happened to everyone. Oh,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: it didn't matter what team it was.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: Yes, the Raiders contingent a little loud in the press box, Fred.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: Not disrespectful, but.
- 1:00:36Speaker 10: A little loud.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Holding out hope for a long time, too.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: A little too comfortable.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Maybe. There was the one call, the pass interference on
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Hunter Henry.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Three minutes later?
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I think there were four plays running
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: between the time that that play ended and they threw
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: the flag. I mean, it felt like... 20 seconds. And
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: all of a sudden, Henry's turning around. He's gesturing to the...
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: And here it comes from like eight miles away.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: You keep calling that P.I. It was hands to the helmet. Okay.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Just so you know.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Illegal use of hands.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: Just so you know, I went back because I was like...
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: I pride myself on remembering the random minutiae. And I
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: was going to let it go. But I went back
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: and looked. And it was pass interference.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Really? Because he said illegal use of hands.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: No, he said pass interference.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I don't know what you said.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: I went back through the whole, all of the, how
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: many were there, Mike?
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: 20?
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: That doesn't count all the decline penalties.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: That's the one that happened around the 20-yard line, right?
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: There was not a single illegal use of the hands.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Watching it back, I saw a lot of the infractions.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I was like, okay, yeah, these are holds, these are penalties.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: But at the same time, I think that they have
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: the threshold needs to be a little bit higher. Like
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: just to, so that it's not a flag fest. Like I,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I get it. Like these are penalties in a lot
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: of instances. Like, you know, Ben Brown tackled the guy.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: That's a hold. Like you got to throw it. Like,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: you know, that one was, that one was, you know,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: things like that.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Like, but you give the players an inch, they'll take
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: them on.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: How about, how about the bump out of bounds on Romeo?
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Like you kind of, you kind of turned into a
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: gunner and sort of wrote them out of bounds and like, I, I,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I may be a legal contact. Like, I don't think
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: that that's a spot foul.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Maybe the ball is like 30 yards away and the
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: guys over there.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Maybe we can let that one go.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: But if he's, if he's able to run in his
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: straight line, you know, the ball is not 30 yards
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: away and just, he got rode out of bounds by
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the court. I, there was too many penalties.
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: And I think that we've gotten to the time where,
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: you know, we're going to use this technology or not.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Let's start making everything reviewable. Let's get somebody up in
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: the booth that is calling these penalties via replay. Like,
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: I just, I don't know why the spotting of the
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: ball is as arbitrary as anything that goes on in
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: the game every single week, every play. It's a, it's
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: the epitome of a judgment call where the guy, where
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: the ball was when the guy's knee is down is
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: a judgment call and they can overturn that via replay.
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: And they always say, well, we don't want judgment calls,
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: you know?
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: I don't want 25 penalties a game either. I don't
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: want two of the best teams in football playing on
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: a Monday night and 24 penalties, Mike.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: 13 and 11. And some missed calls, too. Dalton Kincaid
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: got bear hugged on one route and they didn't call it.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: It's going both ways. It's not just the calls. It's
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: also the ones that they're missing.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: That's like the one I brought up in the Alabama-Georgia game.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: That was a blatant pass interference. Did you see that
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: at the end of that game? Why were you rooting
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: for Georgia?
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I can't remember.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: Because I generally root against Alabama.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: He hates Alabama because of Nick Saban.
- 1:03:43Speaker 14: Oh.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: I don't hate Nick Saban, but I root against him
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: because they were always the best for so long. It's
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: like I root against Notre Dame.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I root for Alabama. Me too. I feel like we're
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: kindred spirits with Alabama. Well, not anymore, but we were.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Maybe Fred's right.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: 855-PASS-500 is the hotline. What were you saying? You despise
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: all the flags? I forget what the word you used. Derision?
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I forget.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Anyway, speaking of that, it's Christian in L.A.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: What's up, Christian? Christian.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Oh, he's gone again.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: I think this is intentional now.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Oh, you think so?
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Yeah. So he's baiting us? Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Because everybody keeps on saying don't take his calls anymore. Oh, no.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: People want him to come on because... To get his comeuppance.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I think that most people say, can you stop taking
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: his calls? Well, they do that.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: But now that he's been proven wrong about Drake May,
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: people want him to come on and take his lumps.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: It's ringing again.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: We'll move on. We'll go to Herm in D.C. What's up, Herm?
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: It's amazing.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Nobody's calling to bench Drake May?
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: No, no one is calling for that benching right now, no.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Yeah, huh.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: Amazing.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Anyway, I actually have two quick.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: Questions today about other teams in NFL, and I was
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: just curious about you guys' opinion.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: So the first question is really about the– it's mostly
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: about Justin Herbert.
- 1:05:22Speaker 15: So I'm a little puzzled because.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: He seems to have ability. He seems to have.
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: A great coach.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: He has a great team.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: So from you guys' standpoint, I mean– What's the problem?
- 1:05:37Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:05:37Speaker 14: And I feel like Justin Herbert gets excuses that Drake
- 1:05:44Speaker 14: May would never get a million years.
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:05:48Speaker 15: So I'm not sure what the issue is.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Justin Herbert is getting absolutely eviscerated. Yeah. I don't know
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: I also am not sure he deserves to be, by
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: the way.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: I'm also not sure he has a great, he does
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: not have a great coach. I think he, he once
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: was a great coach, but I don't know if Jim
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Harbaugh is still a great coach.
- 1:06:03Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: That team's a mess.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: That team is an absolute mess, and he's getting killed
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: for it. I mean, they're even making fun of him
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: about his wife.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Like, he's even, I mean, even that part is getting
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: brought up now. I heard.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Shannon Sharp.
- 1:06:17Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I heard them talking about that this morning as I
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: was driving.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I kind of.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I don't know how you can say. Like, she's the problem?
- 1:06:24Speaker 14: No, no, no.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: No, just like he's got to be. Yeah, like he
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: didn't do anything in the offseason. I don't know if
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: he did or didn't. He was doing something.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: I'm talking about, like, off-season program and stuff. They had
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: a new– He skipped– I.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Know what you're talking about. He skipped a few OTAs
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: and stuff like that.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and they have a whole new system. Like, I'm
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: not a huge OTA guy, but the starting quarterback probably
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: needs to be involved in OTAs, especially when you're putting
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: in a new offensive system. And if he wasn't and
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: his mind wasn't fully where it should have been, this
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: is what shows. Now, I'm looking right here. It's just funny.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: I'm on Twitter. Most dropbacks under pressure through five weeks.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: He's fourth in the league 82 times. He's been under pressure.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Tyler Shuck, Bryce Young, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, Deshaun Watson.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: That's the top five. So, you know, is it all
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: on him? No, but he's been awful. I mean, absolutely awful.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: He's like 38th out of 39 eligible passers. I think
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Cooper Rush is the only passer who's behind him. Wow.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: So they're 0-5, and a big part of the reason
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: for that is Justin Herbert. And I think a lot
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: of people are talking about it.
- 1:07:28Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I don't, I don't see any, any break he's getting.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: I mean, if we want to get into the whole, like, well,
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Drake may like Drake may was pretty bad for three weeks.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: He was better in Buffalo and then had this unbelievable
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: game against the Raiders. And now what is everybody saying?
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: He's back.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: He's back.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: So like, let's pump the brakes on everybody. Jumped off
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: the break. The Drake made a bandwagon.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: The Packers smoked the bears this week and everybody was
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: jumping off the Packers bandwagon saying that they were done.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: I was listening to one of Paul's shows this morning
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: and they played the Shannon Sharp clip. That's where I
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: heard that Madison beer. And the, none of the hosts
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: on the show had any idea who she was. And
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: they were all, like, Googling it and trying to figure
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: it out.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Weren't you surprised that, like, the Shannon Sharps of the
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: world didn't know who she was?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: Because was it Ocho Cinco was the other one?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: He's like, who is this?
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: And she's like, you know, I got to look this up.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: And like, I was just surprised that those guys didn't know.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Who she was. Well, I just thought it was funny
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: because other than being his girlfriend, who is she? She's
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: a singer. She's a social media influencer as well.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Like, I don't know who she is. She's a singer.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: But I would think that, you know, like Shannon Sharp
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: and those guys.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: So the funny part about Paul's shows is that they're
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: sitting there and they have no idea who she is.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: And so they're like, you know, why is he with her? Like,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: you know, what does she do? Yada, yada, yada. What
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: does she do? And all these different things. And I'm
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: just thinking to myself, she's more famous than he is. Like,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: she is literally more famous than he is. And it
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: was just funny to the three old white guys had
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: no idea who he was.
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: It's just a weird marriage to me, McDaniel and Harbaugh
- 1:09:06Speaker 8: from the beginning. And I just wonder how much of
- 1:09:08Speaker 8: a part of that is there. Jim Harbaugh seems like
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: old school, you know, fullback. And the Mike McDaniel is like,
- 1:09:15Speaker 8: we're speed.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: We're misdirection. We're fancy. You know, we're timing. It always
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: seemed strange to me.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Well, maybe that's why they brought McDaniel in, but maybe
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: there's just not matching.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I thought it was actually made more sense than other
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: people did. Like, McDaniel, he played with a fullback all
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: the time in Miami. Like, you know, Alec Ingold was
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: on their team and was a big part of what
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: they did. They ran the ball really well, especially when
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: A-chan started to get going. And, like, I don't think
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that McDaniel was somebody that, like, isn't like a run
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: the ball line of scrimmage kind of guy. Now Miami
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: wasn't built that way, you know, personnel wise when he
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: was the head coach there, but I, I, I don't
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: know what it is.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: I just always got the impression that the McDaniel run
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: game was more speed based. Like they're looking to catch
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: edges in, you know, fine creases like with a chant,
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: you know, as an example. And I, I think of
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: Harbaugh as what Mike said, kind of, You know, we're
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: going to get like Patrick Ricard type fullbacks that are
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: really tackles and just power our way through this game.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: I didn't think it was a great match. Now, I
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: didn't expect it to be this much of a train wreck.
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: But I also, you know, no one's fault again. But like,
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: do you know they played the game without four linemen again? Like,
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: how did they get there again? They played with four
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: rookies on the offensive line in Cole Strange. On Sunday,
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: I was listening to that game when I was driving home.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: The Broncos, by the way, are kind of a mess, too.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Now, last year, correct me if I'm wrong, they had.
- 1:10:49Speaker 8: They had the guys healthy for a little bit, and
- 1:10:50Speaker 8: they were good, and then you could kind.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: Of miss the whole year.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Well, one of them missed the whole year. Rashawn Slater
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: missed the whole year. Rashawn was gone the whole year. Yeah,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: he tore his patella tendon that day. But wasn't there
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: a period?
- 1:10:58Speaker 8: I mean, they made the playoffs, so they obviously had
- 1:10:59Speaker 8: a portion of time where they were okay. But I
- 1:11:01Speaker 8: know they were falling.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Apart at the end.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: The line was in shambles all year. The line was
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: really in shambles all year. That's why Herbert was getting
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: as much credit as he was getting is that He
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: had no time to throw and was finding ways to
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: win these games anyway.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: And put up good numbers. Now he's a mess. They
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: fired Greg Roman because Greg Roman's dropback passing game is
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: just not up to snuff. He's a great run game designer.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: The passing game has always been limited, even going back
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: to his time with Baltimore or San Francisco. And so
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: they brought in McDaniel, like trying to, update the passing
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: game and try and, you know, get some of the
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: schemes to be a little bit more creative in the
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: passing game. And it just, it hasn't, it hasn't taken hold.
- 1:11:44Speaker 8: Like schematically, schematics aside, like there's just two of the
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: most quirky dudes in the NFL, those two guys, and
- 1:11:51Speaker 8: kind of on different ends of the spectrum.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: It's a good point about the quirky nature of both
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: of those guys. Yeah, I understand what you're saying.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Personality-wise, they're different.
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: And then you add in, like, a team that's renting
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: their home stadium, and, you know, they don't really, like,
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: there's just so much going on with the Chargers.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I mean, they're so, they're, none of it good.
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: Their content department does pretty good.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: You hear all the Bills fans last night at that game?
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: It was like half built.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they were.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: That happens at so far.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: Almost no matter what.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: I know it's in L.A.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: That don't have home fans.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: The other thing, toward the end of that game, just
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: how bad Herbert's been. They have a 17-10 lead in
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: the fourth quarter. It starts that they go for a
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: fourth down in their own territory, which I thought was
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: kind of foolish. Denver hadn't moved the ball. It's just punt.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: So they get stopped. That leads to the tying touchdown.
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: The next possession, Herbert's getting sacked, and he's just about
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: on the ground, and he kind of half-hearted tries to, like,
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: throw it, and he ends up moving the ball back,
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: and it hits one of his offensive linemen's foot, who
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: happened to be on the ground. Never a good sign
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: when your offensive linemen are on the ground, by the way.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: So the ball gets knocked out of his hands, fumble,
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: that leads to the go-ahead field goal. And then, like,
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: they're down at the end, and he's got a chance
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: to throw four. It's fourth and six. It's not like
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: fourth and 100. And he threw the ball right to
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: a Bronco. Like, it was three straight, basically three straight turnovers.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: One of them was a turnover on downs, but just
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: can't get out of their own way.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: All right, he's back.
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: And they're going to be 0-9.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Christian in L.A. What's up, Christian?
- 1:13:20Speaker 11: Hey, what's up, Fred? Hey, what's up, guys?
- 1:13:22Speaker 9: Hey.
- 1:13:23Speaker 11: Good day, good day. Tony, I can't hear you.
- 1:13:25Speaker 19: Can you hear me?
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:13:28Speaker 11: Sorry, my voice is a little out. I was at
- 1:13:30Speaker 11: the Rams game last night yelling my head off at
- 1:13:32Speaker 11: all the stupid egregious plays that the Rams did to
- 1:13:35Speaker 11: let the Bills win that game last night. I was horrified. Anyway, Paul,
- 1:13:41Speaker 11: I don't speak up on purpose, but intentionally. I've been
- 1:13:45Speaker 11: trying to get through something that's going on with my signal.
- 1:13:47Speaker 11: But anyway, I have always been willing to take my lumps,
- 1:13:50Speaker 11: you guys. I, like everybody, like a lot of the people, after,
- 1:13:54Speaker 11: and Paul, I've got to say, you keep saying three
- 1:13:57Speaker 11: weeks of bad play. Drake May played bad for about
- 1:14:00Speaker 11: eight football weeks, including the player. I'm sorry, I'm going
- 1:14:02Speaker 11: to include that. So, yes, I, like a lot of people,
- 1:14:05Speaker 11: thought a quarterback going into his second full year in
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: the offense usually has a little bit of aggression going.
- 1:14:12Speaker 11: And that's what I point out. There was some aggression
- 1:14:14Speaker 11: going with Drake May. You guys may deny that, but
- 1:14:16Speaker 11: that was true. I am thankful that I was wrong,
- 1:14:19Speaker 11: or hopefully wrong, although I do need to see one
- 1:14:21Speaker 11: more game of him playing like he plays to say, okay,
- 1:14:24Speaker 11: he's out of his slump. So if anybody out there
- 1:14:26Speaker 11: wants to give me lumps or don't want me to
- 1:14:28Speaker 11: call whatever, give me my lumps.
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: I am a Patriots fan.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Would the Patriots have beaten the Texans last year without
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: the plays that Drake May made?
- 1:14:38Speaker 11: I think that... The Texans got beat by C.J. Stroud
- 1:14:42Speaker 11: making the amount of turns. Any professional team, if you
- 1:14:45Speaker 11: turn the ball over with that amount of time, yes,
- 1:14:47Speaker 11: the other team is going to win.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Two calls in a row, Christian. I'm with you.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: The Patriots had to score some points, right, in order
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: to win that game?
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: C.J.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Stroud did that for them.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:14:58Speaker 11: I mean, C.J. Stroud helped them out. But on to
- 1:15:01Speaker 11: football with what's going on now. Can you guys agree
- 1:15:03Speaker 11: with me on one thing, if anything? I think that we,
- 1:15:08Speaker 11: while this gentleman still has the trade value, and with
- 1:15:10Speaker 11: the emergence of the other two receivers that I'm going
- 1:15:13Speaker 11: to wait a couple of weeks, I want Romeo Dobbs
- 1:15:16Speaker 11: the hell out of here, and I want a linebacker
- 1:15:17Speaker 11: that can cover.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Contractually, it can't happen.
- 1:15:20Speaker 11: Can we get rid of him now?
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: No.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: Last thing I got.
- 1:15:27Speaker 11: We had a discussion. We were talking last night about
- 1:15:29Speaker 11: two things that we would definitely change. I know you
- 1:15:31Speaker 11: guys hate fancy football. Two things that we would definitely change.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: It's a.
- 1:15:35Speaker 11: He's the only way to stop another player, another receiver,
- 1:15:39Speaker 11: is to keep giving him pass interferences. But at the
- 1:15:41Speaker 11: end of the game, that receiver's stat line reads, you know,
- 1:15:45Speaker 11: one catch for five yards. But he was the cause of.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: No, I agree with that.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: They should get credit for that. What, the pass interference penalties?
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and their stats.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: We could have, like, a different column.
- 1:15:58Speaker 11: When a defense can do a tackle for loss, six, seven,
- 1:16:00Speaker 11: eight yards, they should get credit for that, too. So
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: I'll pick up the air.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: okay thank you they do get credit for that yeah
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: i don't know anyway um so right for a guy
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: with all that money he's got the worst phone i don't.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Think that you should get credit for a catch that
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: you didn't make.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: No i don't think it should go down as like
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: a receiving yards thing but it's penalty yards yeah it
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: is kind of as penalty.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: But i i think i think that should you should
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: like you said there should be a column how many
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: how many pass interferences did you draw over the course
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: of a season and i also think that um Linemen
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: should get credit for holds that they cause.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: They do. They keep track of who gets the penalties.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but in the stat line. You don't see it
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: in the stat line.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: We have something from Mike Tussauds in the breaking news department.
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: Thank you to Julianne Chalicombe for giving this to us all.
- 1:16:45Speaker 8: Tom Palacero reports Patriots left tackle Will Campbell avoided a
- 1:16:48Speaker 8: major knee injury Sunday. Test confirmed. He's considered weak to weak.
- 1:16:52Speaker 8: So perhaps he avoids an IR trip.
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: I would tell Tom Palacero to check with Ian Rappaport,
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: who wrote that yesterday.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: That's okay. I would just say, like, I don't know.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: We talked to Matt Collins at his locker on Wednesday.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: I think he's going on IR.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: He said he was hoping that he was going to practice,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: and then three days later he was on IR.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: I think he sprained his MCL, which is what Rappaport
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: said yesterday. Last year they put him on IR, and
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: when he came back from IR, he was thoroughly ineffective.
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: If he has the same injury that he had last year,
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: I don't know why they would decide that it's going
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: to be less time off this time around based on
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: the way it unfolded last year.
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: Well, I mean, if you're not playing the Chargers, the Texans,
- 1:17:34Speaker 8: the Seahawks, then a Broncos.
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: I'm worried about him, not the opponent, to be honest
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: with you. I worry about him being healthy enough to play,
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: especially with how well Momu played in his absence.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: Well enough to anchor. You know, like that was the
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: biggest problem with him when he came back from the
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: injury last year is he had no power in his
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: lower half. He couldn't anchor against bull rushes.
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Guys are pushing him back into the quarterback.
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: So. I don't know.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I just, with all these injuries.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: Get healthy.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Drake May's shoulder was fine, then he's on the injury report.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: Matt Collins avoided an injury, and then he's on IR. Like,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I'm just going to. You just don't know. You just
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Now, maybe, you know, maybe he doesn't have to miss
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: four full games, and they don't want to put him
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: on IR. Maybe the stuff that we talked about earlier
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: in the show, with the amount of guys they're going
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: to have on IR that they're going to have to
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: bring back, maybe they want to try to save one,
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: even if he ends up missing. three or four games that,
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: you know, if they can avoid, who knows, maybe they
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: can avoid having to bring another guy back.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Even if Campbell is okay to play this week, I
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: wouldn't play him. I wouldn't play him this week.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: I mean, you don't have to play anybody. Yeah.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Unless Ian Rappaport is completely wrong, which I, I do
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: not take any of these things as complete gospel, but
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: if Rappaport was wrong and he doesn't have a sprained ankle, MCL.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: That's the only way I would even think about playing. Well,
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: he has a sprained MCL. I don't think he should play.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: It could be sprained, but it could be a minor sprain.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't play him this week.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: But even then, I wouldn't play him.
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I wouldn't play him.
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: If he sprained his MCL, I would not play him
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: this week.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Yeah, as long as Drake May plays on Sunday against
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: the Jets, I think me, Paul, and Mike could go
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: out there with him, and they'd probably win this game.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I appreciate you saying that. Thanks. You're welcome.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: I can't really give you much other than clock management.
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: I'm not going to lie. I've got nothing to give.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Brady's in Cambridge. Hey, Brady.
- 1:19:18Speaker 9: Hey, can you guys hear me?
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: Awesome.
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: Yeah, so just kind of thinking back to the talk
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: at the start.
- 1:19:25Speaker 19: Of the season about Drake May and giving him more
- 1:19:29Speaker 19: responsibility to do pre-snap processing behind the line of scrimmage,
- 1:19:34Speaker 19: I guess the thought that I have is perhaps one
- 1:19:37Speaker 19: thing that we can attribute, and I know there's a
- 1:19:39Speaker 19: lot of factors, but Is it possible that we were
- 1:19:42Speaker 19: giving him too much responsibility.
- 1:19:44Speaker 17: To do those pre-snap reads behind the line of scrimmage?
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: And not that he can't do them, but just that
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: possibly when he doesn't have to make as many pre-snap
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: choices himself, perhaps he's able to play with.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: Some more freedom behind the line of scrimmage. And I'll
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: take it out there.
- 1:19:59Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I have not noticed a change in that at all. Now,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I'm not in the headset. I'm just reading body language
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: and what he's doing pre-snap and stuff like that.
- 1:20:11Speaker 6: I haven't.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Maybe he's getting more comfortable with it with each passing game.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: I think that's possible. But I haven't really noticed a
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: stark difference between what's on his plate now versus what
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: was the first three weeks of the season. He's just
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: throwing the ball better. How's Wilson doing at center?
- 1:20:27Speaker 8: I think he's been better. Last couple weeks have been better.
- 1:20:30Speaker 8: I've been hard on him. I would say early I
- 1:20:34Speaker 8: was unsure of what he was. Everyone was just defaulting to,
- 1:20:37Speaker 8: this is his natural position.
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: It'll be great. And wanted to see what it looked like.
- 1:20:41Speaker 8: I mean, I think at times he still struggles with
- 1:20:43Speaker 8: power a little bit, but I think the rankings would
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: tell you that he's doing pretty well. And I think
- 1:20:46Speaker 8: the eye test would tell you he's doing a little better.
- 1:20:47Speaker 8: AVT too. I think both those guys have, have been
- 1:20:51Speaker 8: pretty good.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: Sunday was, was excellent across the board. I thought almost
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: every time he would drop back, he had a significant
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: amount of time to look around.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: They had, um, some issues with the stunts inside that
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: the Raiders ran a couple of times, just like some
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: pass offs and things like that. Um, Crosby had more
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: pressure than I thought he did watching live. I didn't
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: feel very impactful watching the game, watching it back here.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: You know, I thought the offensive line was really, really good.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I thought what was really particular was good is they
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: had a lot of really clean pockets, like ham sandwich
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: kind of pockets that I don't think unless they really
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: loaded up the protections and stuff like that before they
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: weren't getting those as consistently, there was maybe a little
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: bit more leaky than I thought watching it the first time.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: But the, uh, The pockets that they did keep him
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: clean were like he had all day back there, which
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: they haven't done as much, you know, the first three weeks.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Manny's in New Bedford.
- 1:21:46Speaker 11: Hey, Manny. Hey, what's going on, guys?
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Hey, Manny.
- 1:21:50Speaker 17: What I found pretty interesting, two points here, back to
- 1:21:54Speaker 17: what the last car was saying. I don't know about
- 1:21:56Speaker 17: you guys, maybe I'm delusional, but I noticed that what
- 1:21:59Speaker 17: I found pretty interesting is that we had over 100
- 1:22:02Speaker 17: yards in penalties, right? But I noticed a sense of
- 1:22:06Speaker 17: urgency of the offense getting out of that huddle. I
- 1:22:10Speaker 17: almost felt like every time they were pre-snapping and doing
- 1:22:14Speaker 17: all these motions, they still had plenty of time to
- 1:22:16Speaker 17: kind of see what the defense was throwing at them.
- 1:22:19Speaker 17: So I don't know if that contributes to the success
- 1:22:21Speaker 17: of the offense. That's my first point. My second point is, man,
- 1:22:26Speaker 17: I'm just getting tired of Romeo Dobbs. I know we
- 1:22:28Speaker 17: keep talking about it, but we're paying this guy $ 20
- 1:22:30Speaker 17: million and he can't make contested catches.
- 1:22:32Speaker 11: We got guys.
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: second year in, making better catches than he, and he's
- 1:22:36Speaker 17: making $ 20 million a year. Like, we got to figure
- 1:22:39Speaker 17: something out with this, but I'll figure it out for you. Thanks, guys.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, we've touched on Dobbs.
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: I mean, you know, I said we hit a point
- 1:22:47Speaker 8: this summer where you thought some of these catches that
- 1:22:49Speaker 8: he's not making in the games seem like his specialty.
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: I mean, how many times did I see him strong
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: hands in the end zone, go up, grab a ball,
- 1:22:57Speaker 8: and I never really noticed him having problems catching through
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: contact He's just having problems catching.
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: He double catches passes. It seems like every single time
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: he even catches a ball, it's not completely clean some
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: of the times. I agree.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: It's been a struggle in every game but the Buffalo game.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: The Buffalo game, I thought he looked normal. But this one,
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: he dropped a go ball down the sideline.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: He could have made that catch.
- 1:23:22Speaker 8: It's just the inconsistency. It's almost like, are you good
- 1:23:25Speaker 8: or do you stink? I'd rather just tell me. Because
- 1:23:28Speaker 8: sometimes you look good and other times you look bad.
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: Maybe he finds consistency here. I think the point I
- 1:23:33Speaker 8: was going to make was, and you kind of touched
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: on it, Paul, A.J. Brown returns. Maybe it allows him
- 1:23:37Speaker 8: to do more of the stuff that you said, and
- 1:23:39Speaker 8: it gets more into what the role that he was brought.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: Into play once A.J. Brown is back. So I'm going to.
- 1:23:46Speaker 8: Wait and see. You're not getting rid of him anytime soon,
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: so I think you've just got to ride the roller coaster.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Ryan has a stump to grump trying to get a
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: T-shirt in honor of the Chisholm lateral and also admittedly
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: to try to get a T-shirt for Paul. When was
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: the last time the Patriots scored a touchdown on a lateral?
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: You know. Doesn't necessarily have to be an offensive play.
- 1:24:17Speaker 8: Oh.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Then I'm going to go to the AFC Championship game
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: in 2001 off the block field goal. Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: You got it.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Troy Brown picked up a block field goal and passed
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: it back to Antoine Harris who scored.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: Yeah, if you didn't say that and I was thinking
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: it had to be offensive, I was going to go
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: back to like 93.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Leonard Russell in Arizona. Okay. There's a bonus question.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: When was the last non-special teams lateral for the Patriots?
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: Is that it?
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: 1983, week four against the Steelers. Player I couldn't identify
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: intercepted a cliff stout pass who, from the ground, tossed
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: it back to Clayton Weishun.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Clayton Weishun. So that would be, but there was an
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: offensive lateral in Arizona in 93. It was Drew's rookie year.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: And they were, remember they started that season.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Where was your boy this weekend, by the way?
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: One on 11.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: He was busy.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: He checked in. They were 1-11. That was their one win.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: They beat the.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: Cardinals in Arizona. I think there was a run that
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: they kind of lateral. I think Leonard Russell was involved
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: in a lateral, but I'll look into that.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: I'll check that out.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Get back to you tomorrow. Dark days there.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: And then they won the last four, go 5-11, set
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: the stage for playoff year in 94.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: Carl writes in, I keep thinking that with McDaniel's previous
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: reliance on the third down pass catching back, we would
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: have someone solid in that role by now. Keep hoping
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: it's Lane Larrison, but he's only appeared sparingly this year.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: So have we given up on that or just not
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: found the right guy?
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: Well, I think Ramondre Stevenson is the guy, but I'm
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: going to go back to what I say a lot
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: about Drake May. I don't think that those plays are
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: his favorites. I think some of that is to do
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: with the quarterbacks. who's willing to take those checkdowns and
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: looking for those checkdowns and whatnot. James White, Rex Burkhead.
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: Jake Mays' own checkdown. He just runs and gets the
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: first down.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: He's his own checkdown.
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: It's funny. Check down me. I don't remember what the
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: numbers are updated through this week, but they were down
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: near the bottom of the league in short pass attempts,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: like passes under 10 yards.
- 1:26:33Speaker 11: In the air.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: But they're at the top of the league and obviously
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: second level and deep balls, which tracks, given the quarterback.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, why would he throw short when
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: he can just run for an explosive? In the Buffalo game,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: he just ran for 26 yards down the sideline. I
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: don't need James White. I got James White right here.
- 1:26:54Speaker 8: What do you think all the running Josh Allen did
- 1:26:56Speaker 8: last night all of a sudden? They took the governor
- 1:26:59Speaker 8: off him.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I would love to know with that because I was–
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: Tweeting a little bit during the end of that game,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: because I was staying up to see if the Patriots
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: are going to be in first place in the division,
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: of course. And they. They he did all this running
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: and I was just wondering, like. Did the Patriots do
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: a great job of containing him, or did Josh Allen
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: contain himself?
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: My guess is it's both.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, because that looked like his aggressiveness running the ball
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: last night was a different player than the one the
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: Patriots played.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: That's what I was saying to Mike. There's no way
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: you go from running the ball 10 times, 11 times,
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: 12 times, and then.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Five times and then back up to whatever he ran
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: last night.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I think it was almost a career high, like up
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: with his record season.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: When I think it was a nine for one Oh
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: eight or something like that.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: But it's to me, it's the amount of attempts in
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: last night. He was scrambling. It wasn't just design runs.
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: He was scrambling around and making yards. He didn't have
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: one single time that he scrambled beyond the line of
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: scrimmage in the Patriots game. The runs were quarterback sneaks
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: and he had one design run that they, they snuffed
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: out and dropped it for like a three yard loss.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: And even that, he didn't try to make anybody miss.
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: He didn't try to bowl anybody over.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: And last night.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: He went down.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Killers last night. I mean, he was killing them.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: I mean, we really didn't throw the ball well at all.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: They really didn't.
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: He said it, too. He's like, you know, the passing
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: game was, I saw him at the end of the game.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: I saw the highlights this morning. And he said we
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: couldn't really throw the ball. I mean, you're missing. you know,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: two of your three guys, and it was basically just
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: Shakir and Coleman. And, you know, you had the tight ends.
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: And what did you say, Fred, that you only threw
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: four balls.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: To his wide receivers?
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: Yeah. But he ended up, you know, still with over
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: 300 yards total offense.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: I just don't know how the Rams can't figure out
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: special teams. It blows my mind.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: It seems like too good of a coach to be
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: that bad.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Like, that's such a great coaching staff and such a
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: great operation and Because a lot of people last night
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: were obviously crapping on the Rams' defense.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: It's like Miles Garrett got hurt, and it's like, oh,
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: we can't play defense now.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: Well, the Rams' defense is pretty good. It wasn't last night.
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: They were made to look bad by a good offense.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Yeah, like a quarterback they were playing is an alien. But, like,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: they win the game if they can make the kick
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: at the end of the game.
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: And they, they don't, it's not even that he missed it. He,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: they got a block.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: And this is year after year after year.
- 1:29:23Speaker 8: And like, I think it's the third kick blocked in
- 1:29:25Speaker 8: the last two years. Yeah, no, it's not a new thing.
- 1:29:28Speaker 8: And they, they fired their special teams coordinator.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: They hired bones, John fossil, who was like supposed to
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: be regarded as this like great special teams coordinator guru.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: And they still can't figure it out. And I, I just,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: if I was a Rams fan, it would drive me
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: up a wall. They're losing like, important games on special teams.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: They still got that thicker kicker to me. This I love.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: And he has no leg. He can't even make it
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: over 50 plus. I'm like, he just embodies the special
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: team so well. Like who's this fat guy? I don't know.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: It's Ryan.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: It's SoCal watching red zone on Sunday. As soon as
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: I saw Jaden Daniels take the sack late in overtime,
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: I thought to myself, can't wait to hear Paul loses
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: mine on the post game show for how terrible that
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: game management was. It looks like another coach, needs to
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: sign up for Paul's school of clock management. Maybe with
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: enough coaches taking his classes, he can finally afford to
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: buy a new car.
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: So there was a lot of bad clock management last night.
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: I thought that was on the coaches. I, I got
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: a little different take. I'm sorry. I put the Washington game, um,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: pretty much squarely on Jaden Daniels. Um, I think Dan
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: Quinn is doing the right thing. I think he's protecting
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: his quarterback and he's putting it on himself. Cause that's
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: what coaches do. And that's what they should do. Um,
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: but any quarterback who's ever played at really, and even
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: at the high school level, but certainly a guy who's
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: played six years of college ball, like Jaden Daniels did is,
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: should be beyond that, that kind of a mental mistake.
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: He looked like he lost track of what was going on.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: He looked confused and he didn't know what to do.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: And that's on him. That's on him. They all said,
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: they all said they knew they didn't have any timeouts.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: So there was no confusion as to whether or not
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: they had a timeout. Um, And you just can't do that. Now,
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: last night, I thought there was some clock management issues.
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: Joe Brady, I think, got lucky.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Yeah. I think they said that the play clock, like
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: the clocks were off on TV. So there was one
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: situation right before the two-minute warning where the Bills were
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: going to run it down to the two-minute warning. But
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: it looked like the play clock was going to run
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: out before they hit the two-minute warning. but I think
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: what happened is like, there was like a plate clock
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: operator issue.
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: I didn't even know about that one.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: And so then they gave it to him and then, uh, they,
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: the Rams got pretty lucky at the end of, uh,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: it was a regulation. that they even scored a touchdown
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: because they took their sweet time to get on the
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: ball and run that play. Now, they were trying to
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: milk clock, but I don't think they were trying to
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: milk that much clock.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but they would have had one more play if
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: he didn't get in because they had a timeout.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I guess. I mean, it was a lot closer than
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: it needed to be.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and they took a play away from themselves.
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: They'd like to have four plays, so they took a
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: couple of plays away because that was first down that
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: they scored on. I don't understand why Buffalo didn't call timeout.
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: Like they get down to the one yard line. There
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: was like 25 seconds left. Call timeout. They're not going
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: to run out of time.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: They're either going to score and you're going to.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Give yourself a chance for a Hail Mary or something.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: But it wouldn't even have been a Hail Mary. They
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: would have had like 20 seconds. If they had just scored,
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: then they would have had Josh Allen with 20 seconds.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: Maybe they're going to get a field goal and win
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: the regulation.
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: That drive that Stafford put together to put the game
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: into overtime was incredible. I mean, just absolutely.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: But did you see the.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Drive before that? The Bills went down on, like, four plays.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: It was all, like, short passes and missed tackles. It
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: was ridiculous. The Rams absolutely, I mean, that was surgical. Like,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: people were saying it was bad defense. Like, I'm sorry.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: When Puka, Nakua, and Stafford are cooking like that, I
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: don't know what you're supposed to do.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: He's good, that Puka kid.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: Unfortunately. He is, man.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: All right, back to the phones. Let's go to, let's see.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: Blake is in North Carolina. What's up, Blake?
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: Hey, how are you all doing?
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: Hey, Blake.
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I'm a first-time caller.
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: Two questions.
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: So, first of all, obviously you've got a ton of
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: injuries going on right now. Do you guys think we're
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: going to take or go for any trades soon, like
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: Tony Pollard or someone like that? And then, two, obviously
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: a lot of our backups are getting some good game time.
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: Do you think that's going to pay dividends further down
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: the line, maybe especially for the postseason as well?
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: I don't know about trades, you know, because you've got
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: to give something up for a trade.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: I'm interested. It just depends on, you know, what we're
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: talking about. Tony Pollard?
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: What team does Tony Pollard play for?
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: I think he's on the Titans, right?
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Yeah, find somebody else. Yeah.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: What, you wouldn't take him for, like, a day three pick?
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: I don't think the Titans would trade him here. Oh,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: I see what you're saying.
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: I didn't really understand. I was like, that's the kind
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: of team that's trading veterans.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: They're not in the business of helping the Patriots.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I get his point.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: It's too hard to predict. You've got so many injuries
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:34:12Speaker 8: I feel like with trades, if you're one player away,
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: I know Mohamed Sanu, it did not work out, but
- 1:34:19Speaker 8: the theory was like, man, if we just had one
- 1:34:21Speaker 8: more receiver, we'd have what we.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: But when you.
- 1:34:24Speaker 8: Have so many guys on IR, who's coming back, who isn't,
- 1:34:26Speaker 8: it's hard to say. I like the running back position.
- 1:34:28Speaker 8: I wouldn't be opposed to adding another running back.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: I mean, definitely need to look at at least some
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: body at running back. I mean, like maybe you trust
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Larrison to be the third back, but then did you
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: trust Kiner to be the second back and like that
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: whole thing? And like, I don't know if it's a trade,
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: but you know, somebody that's a veteran, like a Jamal Williams,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: who's played a little bit and you know, it has
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: some experience. When is the trade deadline?
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: It's like November.
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Usually like around Halloween.
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Halloween.
- 1:34:53Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:34:54Speaker 8: I would just, I get an early jump on it
- 1:34:57Speaker 8: next year.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: Let's get a third back.
- 1:34:59Speaker 8: Who can do a lot of stuff and like, it
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: can't be the Stevenson Henderson show again, going into next year.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: They need another guy, preferably with some high upside. Trade deadlines,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: November 10th, November 10th.
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: A little bit later this year then. Yeah.
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: I think they moved it back a week on purpose
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: to give teams a little bit more time to see what,
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: what they have and you know, that kind of stuff.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: All right. We'll stay in North Carolina.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Sabah. What's up Sabah. What are you going to yell
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: at us about today?
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: Sabah. Oh.
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: Goodbye.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: She tapped out.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: Raleigh.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Raleigh, Virginia. North Carolina. Where's Raleigh?
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Raleigh, North Carolina. Yeah. Let's go to Colin.
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: What's up, Colin?
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: Welcome to fifth grade geography.
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: Colin.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: Hey, fellas.
- 1:35:48Speaker 11: Can you hear me? Yes.
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: Hey.
- 1:35:50Speaker 11: I'm asking from Rozzy.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Roslindale.
- 1:35:52Speaker 11: Not Raleigh.
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Roslindale.
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: Very different. That's a long way from Raleigh.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:58Speaker 10: Yeah, close enough.
- 1:36:00Speaker 14: But I sent in an email, and I figured I'd
- 1:36:04Speaker 14: call because I have some time. I think there's some
- 1:36:07Speaker 14: other people that are maybe having the same feeling as me,
- 1:36:11Speaker 14: but I wanted to give me a call because I
- 1:36:14Speaker 14: really thought Drake May was like a Sam Darnold situation
- 1:36:18Speaker 14: where he needed to be let go and rehab or something.
- 1:36:23Speaker 14: And I'm glad I am not in charge of teams.
- 1:36:25Speaker 11: Because he's, he's a dog. He's, he's fine.
- 1:36:30Speaker 14: Second thing, Paul, I had the same idea as you
- 1:36:33Speaker 14: with your fresh cake. I think we need to have
- 1:36:36Speaker 14: a change in flag. Maybe we should only have like 15.
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: 16 flags a game and that's it.
- 1:36:43Speaker 11: And they can figure out what's really egregious. And after that,
- 1:36:48Speaker 11: the game just goes on. I don't want to see
- 1:36:50Speaker 11: the flags. I'm done with the flags.
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: But that's all I got.
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: Thanks, guys.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: They've made the game very hard to watch. It just is.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: Like every play that has, especially if you're watching on
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: TV and you don't see the flag, you see a
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: play unfold and you immediately don't even get excited. You
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: just wait to see.
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: If that little flag bug comes up. I just worry
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: if they start telling these refs, hey, you know, keep it.
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: keep the flags in your pocket, the players are going
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: to take that and run with it.
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: But I'd rather have that. At least the players are
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: deciding what happens.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Not when my guy's getting hold. If I'm holding them,
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: I like it. But not when my team's being held.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: It's hard to say only call the egregious ones. No.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Because what's the threshold?
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Each person's threshold of egregious is different.
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: It's impossible to do that.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: I get it.
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: But if I have my choice between what I watched
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: on Sunday with the Raiders game and having no penalties
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: called and anarchy, I'll take the anarchy. At least the
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: players are deciding it.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Can I ask what we all thought about the intentional grounding?
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: I didn't like that call either.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Wasn't it in the vicinity of Hunter Henry?
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: There were two guys there. I think they were blocking.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: So what?
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: That's an eligible reason.
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Well, it wasn't Josh Allen, Paul.
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: I think it was a bad call.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: Josh Allen was deemed outside the tackle box, which we
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: can argue whether he was or not. I actually think
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: that did. But I've never seen it legislated that way.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: but because usually they try to stay out of intent,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: like what was his intent on the play. By the
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: spirit of the rule, there's no doubt he was grounding
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: the ball.
- 1:38:15Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Oh, sure.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: And that's my argument with Josh Allen from two weeks ago.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: It's the same thing. The same thing. He was not
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: trying to complete a pass. That's a penalty. They don't
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: call it that way. They did call it that way
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: in this one.
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: So I think that one's a little... saw Reese tweeting
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: about this this morning. He he went back and watched
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the NFL operations, little videos that they put out about
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: all the rules and stuff. And and he was saying
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: that there is like a line in there about. deciding
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: whether or not the player he's throwing to, who's an
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: eligible receiver actually has any real legitimate chance to make
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: a play on the ball.
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: If he's engaged in a block and his back is
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: to the ball, right.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: That's yeah. Right. So I think by the spirit of
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: the rule, I can see where they were coming from,
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: but they just never call it that way. Like I've
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: seen Brady do that a million times. Just a good
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: play is dead. I'm just going to throw the ball
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: right into the guys.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: It's all about protecting the quarterback. They want to give
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: the quarterback the idea in his head. If I do this,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: They'll help me out. They won't call grounding. So, you know,
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: to keep them from being injured.
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: I know why the rule exists. I just don't think
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: that they call it properly. And, you know, I've seen
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: many screens get blown up and they just throw the ball.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: They rifle it into the ground at the guy's feet.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: There's no intention of completing that pass.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: Let's go to Chucky in Wisconsin. What's up, Chucky?
- 1:39:35Speaker 8: Hey, guys.
- 1:39:35Speaker 18: How are you all?
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: Good.
- 1:39:38Speaker 15: It was out of Speed Queen, so the Unimax series
- 1:39:42Speaker 15: has now got a 200-pound member that can handle 200
- 1:39:46Speaker 15: pounds of laundry.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Oh, that's good. What do you got, Fred?
- 1:39:51Speaker 15: You might need a new floor in your house, so
- 1:39:54Speaker 15: it weighs about a ton.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:39:57Speaker 15: A couple of things about the Patriots, though. One, I'd
- 1:40:02Speaker 15: kind of like to find one lesson to learn each year.
- 1:40:05Speaker 15: And I think this year might be the lesson of
- 1:40:08Speaker 15: it's never as bad as it looks and it's never
- 1:40:10Speaker 15: as good as it looks. And I guess the question
- 1:40:15Speaker 15: for you all is, do you have any updates on Bryant?
- 1:40:19Speaker 15: I know he was designated to return, but do we
- 1:40:22Speaker 15: feel like he's going to be able to contribute yet?
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: Marcus Bryant.
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he has not begun practicing yet.
- 1:40:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:40:29Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: All right. So I think Grable was asked last week
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: if any of the guys that were eligible, you know,
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: and he said no, they're not at that spot where
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: they can start practicing yet. So I don't know if
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: that means Marcus Bryant physically isn't ready to practice yet
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: or no, because he would be eligible to return.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Because he said like that where the roster is at.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: So I kind of looked at it as like he
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: was saying that there wasn't a spot for any for
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: any of those guys. Cause they like the players that
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: are playing instead of them. But now that Campbell is
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: hurt and Lomo has to play interested to see now
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: they have a, you know, cause like crown over was
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: inactive for the game and has been the last couple
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: of weeks. So, you know, maybe now the depth of
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: tackle has changed and it's time to bring Brian back. But, uh, the, uh,
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: it's never as bad as it seems category. Like, I
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: know that this is like a little, like, how is
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: the play Mrs. Lincoln, but like the, uh, If you
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: took out just the turnovers from Drake May, the rest
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: of it efficiency wise was actually pretty good. And the
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: funny thing is, is like now in a game like
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Sunday where he starts to take some of the turnovers
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: actually out and we're not just doing it. The fake way, like,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: the efficiency is staying the same on all the other plays. So, like,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: it was bad. Don't get me wrong. But he was
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: turning the ball over like crazy, and that was what
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: was the bad part. And the less turnovers, like, you know,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: the good plays, there were still some of those.
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: I like the whole lesson.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole lesson.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: It's never as bad as it looks. That's right. Don't
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: think that, okay, Sunday... That's it. Like every week, no matter,
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: regardless of opponent, regardless of time of year, that's what
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: you're going to get every week. It's nobody does what
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: he did every week, probably somewhere in the middle. Yeah.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: Just to confirm, but he's done what he's dead on
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: Sunday at all. This season, Harold Landry's on PUP. So
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: he would not qualify to take an IR return spot.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: He would not be a different list.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: And he's also eligible now.
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Like he has, he could be practicing.
- 1:42:31Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: Speaking of that, um, Ashton in Louisiana says, we said
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: before the season we needed more edge rushers, and Akis, Ponder,
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: and Jones have been great. At the deadline, do we
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: add depth or swing for a true stud?
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: No, I don't know. I'm just concerned about... Are we
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: good with what we've got?
- 1:42:49Speaker 8: I'm good with what we've got. I think they're good
- 1:42:50Speaker 8: with what they have. I'm just concerned Draymond Jones' health.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I mean, he was.
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: Going through it again and the pain, I mean, I
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: don't know if that was just the shoulder popped out again.
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: The problem with those separated shoulders, if it keeps happening,
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: the ligaments actually get loose.
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: And it's more apt to happen more often.
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think it's the dislocation, and Fred's right.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: I actually think it's reasonable to expect acus. to build,
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: to get, I mean, he's just started, you know, so
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: it's a limit. I think you can get, I think
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: you reasonably can expect him to be a better player
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: maybe in a month than he is now. I think
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: ponder is giving you something, but Draymond Jones has been really,
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: I just really professional, really.
- 1:43:34Speaker 8: Good baseline, solid pro and, and like a veteran for
- 1:43:38Speaker 8: the other.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about by professional.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: You know, I read about them last week and, it's
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: been a bright spot that I don't think a lot
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: of people thought was coming with all three of those guys,
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: that trio being really productive, like run past all of it.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: I think part of that is that core.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: I think I give it all to Zach core. I
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: think he's done a great job with.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: Putting them in positions.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: And Mike Smith, the outside linebackers coach, we're going to
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: go coaching and like those guys, I think deserve a
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: lot of credit, but you know, ponder as, at least
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: as a pass rusher is he's on track for like 11,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: 12 sacks this year. And, You know, Akis has been
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: really good.
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: Speed to power.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: You can't block him with a tight end. I mean,
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: that was crazy.
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: The tight ends.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: That's two weeks in a row. One was a tackle.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: One was a tight end. But he's just ragdolled two
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: guys in a row, you know, two weeks in a row.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: A guy, you know, in pass protection. I think Akis is, like,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: he's a hell of a football player. He's fun to watch.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: He's really good.
- 1:44:32Speaker 8: The energy he plays with, which we knew he played with,
- 1:44:34Speaker 8: but that's translated. I just wonder maybe if... Jones is
- 1:44:38Speaker 8: banged up at a certain point. Landry's ready to come.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Back to you.
- 1:44:41Speaker 8: Maybe say, all right, let's rest Jones a little bit.
- 1:44:44Speaker 8: Give Landry a shot for a couple of weeks. Let
- 1:44:46Speaker 8: him get in there and give us that veteran presence.
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: But I have a hard time seeing how if Jones
- 1:44:51Speaker 8: kind of stays healthy. how you get Landry into that.
- 1:44:53Speaker 8: I don't want to pull reps from Accus or Ponder.
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: I'm doing the Fred Kirsch. I'm not expecting anything from
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Harold Landry.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: Yeah, me neither. And honestly, this is no disrespect to
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: Harold Landry. Ponder and Accus need to play. Yeah, right.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: Those two guys, not only are they good, they're two
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: of your better players right now, but they're two young guys.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Let those two guys play because... I guess if I
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: guess develops like a secondary rush move off the bull rush.
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: And he learns, if he learns how to play, he's
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: just like an athlete right now. Like what happens when
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: he actually figures things out?
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: Yeah. But even like, again, he's reading box against the
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: run pretty well. And like, he already plays the run
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: pretty well. I would say at another stuff in the
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: game on Sunday and, and like the bull rush is legit.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: I agree with you on the run. I think he's
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: Pretty good against the run.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: Tim and Boston quick pet peeve for Evan. Um, And
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: when you talk about percentages, he says. For example, success
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: rate going from 20% to 30% is not a 10% increase.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Okay. You know that, right?
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: Sure. Okay.
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: It's a 10-point increase. When you say percent, it is
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: relative to the starting value, whereas percentage point increase refers
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: to the absolute difference between the two values.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: So you understand that, right?
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: Sure.
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: But he's right.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Is it really, does that really like change it for anybody?
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: Well, it's not a 10% increase. 10% increase of 20%
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: would bring it to 22%. Okay.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: I understand what you're saying, but like, is anybody like
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: losing sleep at night over that?
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: These things, if you want to, if you want to
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: be a guy who is a statistician and an analytics guy,
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: accuracy is all, all it's all about accuracy.
- 1:46:38Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Sure.
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: Okay.
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: You need to be able to take a little bit
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: of criticism.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Come on. I can take criticism, but we're parsing words
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: here at this point.
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: Patrick in Ottawa. Another Evan email.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Keep him sick. His voice is much more pleasant. I
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: do get that a lot.
- 1:46:56Speaker 8: Get that deep voice, that deep bass.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: Let's see. Kyle from Pembroke. Question to the ball knowers.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Has Raritan looked in blocking? How has he looked in
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: blocking and route running? I know it's early, but does
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: it seem like he's the tight end of the future?
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: He's fighting. He's fighting.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Make it play.
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: He's fighting in the block. He makes one big play
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: a week, which is exactly what I thought he would do.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: Right now, he's doing exactly what I expected of him.
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: The big playability that he showed at college, especially last year,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: his last season at Notre Dame is translating right now. And,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: and that's, that's a good sign. I mean, it's not
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: high volume, but it's one 30 yard play a game
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: is that's a good thing to have. And he can
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: really get vertical and, and, you know, take off on
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: the seams and the wheel routes and things like that.
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: And the blocking is, is passable. It's good enough for now.
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: You know, I like to see him maybe expand the
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: route tree a little bit more, but I liked it.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: What they're giving him is perfect right now. Um, Barton
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: Poland has a reminder.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: Don't ever forget that far too many people wanted us
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: to take the generational wide receiver prospect in Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: instead of Drake. Never forget, Marvin Harrison Jr. wasn't even
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: the best wide receiver prospect. in that draft, and I
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: said it before the draft, says Bart in Poland.
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: Good.
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: Good email. Like it, Bart.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: Don't forget.
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: People did want that.
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: A lot of people.
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Is this Aliyah? Aliyah in New York?
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Aliyah. Aliyah? Hey, how's it going? Just a quick comment
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: about the Ilya. Ilya. The quick comment about the stump,
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: the grump.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: I believe the question was the last time a Patriots
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: lateral resulted in a touchdown.
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: And I think the Miami miracle.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: The last time a Patriots lateral?
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that was Miami that did that.
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: Technically, it would have been Ramondre Stevenson's to the Raiders.
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: The Miami one was Miami lateral.
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: Oh, sorry.
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: Yes, my bad.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: The Raiders.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: Oh, the Raiders.
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: But Ilya is correct. The last Patriots lateral that turned
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: into a touchdown was Ramondre Stevenson to Chandler Jones.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: Right, for the other team.
- 1:49:14Speaker 11: That's it.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: Nothing else. Have a good day.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: Okay, thanks.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: A little clarification there.
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: And she's back. She's ever relentless. It's Sabah from North Carolina.
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: Hey, guys.
- 1:49:25Speaker 7: Hey, sorry.
- 1:49:26Speaker 8: I'm actually from Raleigh.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: I don't know if y'all knew that.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: North Carolina, that's the capital.
- 1:49:30Speaker 13: Have you ever heard of RDU Airport, Raleigh-Durham International?
- 1:49:32Speaker 7: Anyway.
- 1:49:34Speaker 13: Yeah, I hung up because I thought you wanted new callers.
- 1:49:36Speaker 10: So I was like, oh, let me just.
- 1:49:37Speaker 13: Get out of the way then.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: Well, we did, but you're last up, so good. You're here.
- 1:49:41Speaker 14: Okay.
- 1:49:41Speaker 13: All right, so I got a couple things still.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: So excited.
- 1:49:44Speaker 13: I'm on cloud nine after that victory. I mean, Drake
- 1:49:46Speaker 13: May look so amazing. And the Tar Heels won, too.
- 1:49:48Speaker 13: It was a great weekend for me. But I got
- 1:49:50Speaker 13: two things on Drake May I don't like. I didn't
- 1:49:53Speaker 13: like him talking about I had time for a ham sandwich.
- 1:49:56Speaker 13: Do not get– I mean, he goes too high and
- 1:49:58Speaker 13: too low. Dude, you don't need to be saying that.
- 1:50:00Speaker 13: Now they're going to make sure in the Jets no
- 1:50:03Speaker 13: ham sandwiches for Drake May, and they're going to come
- 1:50:05Speaker 13: and kill you.
- 1:50:06Speaker 19: I wouldn't have done that.
- 1:50:07Speaker 13: And then I don't like when he says, when I
- 1:50:09Speaker 13: see man-to-man coverage, that's open in the NFL.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: Everybody knows that's where you're going to go, though.
- 1:50:15Speaker 13: Just stop telling your secrets. Am I overreacting to that,
- 1:50:19Speaker 13: or did people pick up on that?
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: The second one is a tremendous overreaction.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think a little bit of an overreaction there.
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: Yeah, with all due respect.
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: I do think that it's funny, though. We talked about
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: it a little bit on Catch-22, about the Raiders' game
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: plan defensively in this game, just giving him the isolation
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: shots outside the numbers. You can't do that against him.
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: They don't have the personnel, and I think similar to
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: the Jets.
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: Well, I mean, cover corners can cover their receivers. These
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: guys can't. Like, that Hezekiah Mass is in Stokes. I mean,
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: they were overmatched in that game.
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: Overmatched. By not even the Patriots' front-line receivers. Like, it's
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: not even like it's A.J. Brown out there. You know,
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: I think that that's the thing that always– I always
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: would love to, like, get the true serum with opposing coaches,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: and it's like, is this just your system? Like, what
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: is it that, like, prevents you from, like– changing it
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: up game plan wise, when you know this quarterback outside
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: the numbers is extremely accurate. And if we give him
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: go routes to Kyle Williams and we give him deep
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: shots like that to one-on-one coverage, like he is going
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: to tear us apart. And yet they come out in
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: these games and a lot of these coaches, they just,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: they play single high and they give them the deep
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: shots and he just makes them pay every time. And
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: it's just, it's funny to me how that He can
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: do that in his sleep, and they give it to him.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: They handed it right to him. Don't tell the Jets.
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: Rick Lawson in Riverside, Rhode Island. His four points. First,
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: I love Josh's play calling. The tight end screen was
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: the perfect call at the perfect time. That's the one
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: to Henry that he picked his way downfield. Number two,
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: I'm happy for Kyle Williams. There were reports he was
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: getting discouraged. I'm glad he got a confidence boost. Yes,
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: we all are happy.
- 1:52:14Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: He even said it. Three, does a knee brace help
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: prevent knee sprains?
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: Yes, is the short answer. Dante Scarnacchio was a big
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: proponent of the linemen all being in knee braces.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: Preventively.
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: And four, that dude from California who called for benching
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: May deserves a five-minute.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: Beatdown from Paul.
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: No.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: Verbal.
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Verbal.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: I mean, he's not backing down. He still believes that
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: he was warranted and saying that Drake May should be benched.
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: And listen, he wasn't the only one. Like I said,
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: I heard Boomer Esiason say it, and Terry Bradshaw said it.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: So, two former NFL quarterbacks.
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: But, you know.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Everything's about clicks these days.
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: No. Same for Boomer Esiason and Terry Bradshaw.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: That's my point.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: Hot takes. Hot takes.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: Not fresh takes.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: Difference.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: Hot takes are different from legal seafood fresh takes.
- 1:53:13Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Hot and stinky.
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: Fresh takes taste good. Hot takes burn you. And he
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: got burned.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: Dude.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: Got burned.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: All right. Let's see. Lots of e-mails. Lots of people
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: wondering if we need to add to the team. I think,
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: you know, because of the injuries.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Let's, yeah, let's wait and see.
- 1:53:36Speaker 8: But I also think that you're getting an opportunity to
- 1:53:38Speaker 8: see some depth and, you know, that in the long
- 1:53:40Speaker 8: run could be more valuable than instantly trying to go
- 1:53:43Speaker 8: out and, you know, find a veteran. Does, you know,
- 1:53:45Speaker 8: Marcus Bryant get some time when he comes back? Does
- 1:53:48Speaker 8: Crownover get some time? You know, can you start to
- 1:53:50Speaker 8: build some depth out? Be really interested to see what
- 1:53:53Speaker 8: those guys look like. I mean, we've talked about some
- 1:53:55Speaker 8: of the fluidity along the offensive line and, If you
- 1:53:58Speaker 8: add in a Marcus Bryan or Demetrius Crown over as
- 1:54:01Speaker 8: somebody who you're like, he looks like he can play
- 1:54:03Speaker 8: a little bit, then you're starting to really build that
- 1:54:06Speaker 8: depth that they didn't have this summer.
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: All right, well, listen.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: We're going to have to end early because Deuce needs
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: to get going.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: This is great.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: You forgot, didn't you?
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: What an honor. No, I was getting ready to go.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: I was going to go in one minute. Yeah, Deuce,
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: we can't do the show without Deuce. I appreciate that.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: It is true, though.
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: You did bring it today.
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: We got in a fight with Paul. Yelling at me.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Tomorrow, we turn the page to the New Jersey Jets.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: So we'll be talking about them and what kind of
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: challenge they pose. Not going to be as easy a
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: game as you think. I'll just tell you right now.
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: I'll give you a little preview.
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: You like saying that when he's cupcakes.
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: But you know what the score prediction is going to be, right?
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: 31 to 10. We'll see. We'll see. Idiots.
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: Thanks for ruining my joke.
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: All right. So we'll be back tomorrow. Anything else going
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: on tomorrow we need to talk about?
- 1:54:58Speaker 7: No?
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: Other than that?
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: Standard.
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: We'll have our first practice participation report. Mike Vrabel. We'll
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: talk to the media. So it's a big Wednesday here
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: at Gillette. We'll see you tomorrow.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 1:55:15Speaker 18: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 1:55:16Speaker 18: like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple Podcasts
- 1:55:19Speaker 18: or Spotify. Also, make sure you follow us on the
- 1:55:21Speaker 18: New England Patriots YouTube channel to see this show and
- 1:55:23Speaker 18: everything else that we do here at the Patriots.
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.
