- 0:11What is going on, everybody?
- 0:16Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Podcast.
- 0:39My name is Scott Switzer.
- 0:40My co-host Jamie Latimer is
- 0:42with us for this one.
- 0:43And we're so honored and
- 0:44privileged as we are
- 0:46highlighting the athletes
- 0:46of the 2024 CrossFit Games semifinals.
- 0:50We have Tudor Magda with us.
- 0:51What's going on, Tudor?
- 0:53Good, good.
- 0:53Thanks for having me on.
- 0:56So I've been super excited to have you on.
- 0:58I've been following your
- 0:59career since you were a teenager.
- 1:02My first question to you is,
- 1:04what's it like being a
- 1:06champion in the teen
- 1:07division and then leveling
- 1:09up to the elite division
- 1:11where you're just like
- 1:12another athlete in this big pond?
- 1:15Man, I mean,
- 1:16I think it gave me some
- 1:17experience being in the teen division,
- 1:20but it's different.
- 1:22I mean,
- 1:23It seems like everything
- 1:24kind of speeds up.
- 1:26You hit the elite division.
- 1:28It takes a bit mentally to
- 1:30kind of slow it down around you,
- 1:32competition to competition.
- 1:34And that's what I'm doing
- 1:36right now is just getting
- 1:38the reps in the elite
- 1:39division to continue moving forward.
- 1:41But, yeah,
- 1:42it did give me some experience
- 1:43for sure in teens and winning that.
- 1:46I think understanding myself
- 1:49and how I compete
- 1:52So when you were a teen,
- 1:54you're known for your strength, right?
- 1:56Were you the strongest kid
- 1:58in the teen division?
- 2:00Not particularly starting out.
- 2:03I think I was probably
- 2:04middle of the pack in
- 2:06strength when I just
- 2:08entered the teen division.
- 2:10So like the first 14, 15 rank.
- 2:14And yeah,
- 2:16and then eventually I started
- 2:18getting stronger in 2018.
- 2:20That was my second year.
- 2:22and just kind of improved
- 2:24from there I think my body
- 2:26grew into itself a little
- 2:27bit and you're the same age
- 2:30as dylan and james sprig
- 2:31right I think yeah almost
- 2:35um I am almost the same age
- 2:37as them but I have a good
- 2:39birthday a year younger
- 2:42than them chronologically
- 2:47what what a hot bit of
- 2:48talent in the pacific northwest
- 2:51I know, man.
- 2:51We have – who else do we have here?
- 2:54Cole and Sam,
- 2:57both trained with both those guys.
- 2:59The dude's really awesome, guys.
- 3:01And obviously, lots of good guys.
- 3:05Justin as well.
- 3:07Yeah, it's crazy how, like,
- 3:10the country has these
- 3:10little hotbeds all over the place,
- 3:12and the Pacific Northwest
- 3:13is becoming a big one.
- 3:16Yeah, sure.
- 3:18So last year at West Coast,
- 3:21or I keep calling it that.
- 3:23It wasn't called that last year.
- 3:24North America West.
- 3:26Jamie actually had the honor
- 3:27of interviewing you after the run, snatch,
- 3:31snatch, run kind of double.
- 3:34And I'm going to play that.
- 3:36And then I want to use that
- 3:38as a segue into some other questions.
- 3:40Okay.
- 3:41Okay.
- 3:42I'm here with Tudor Magda,
- 3:45just finished test four and five.
- 3:48Started with Linda today,
- 3:50went pretty well for you.
- 3:51Yeah,
- 3:52I think I got stuck in my heat and I
- 3:54made that push at the end, so.
- 3:57You were hungry today, I'm assuming, yeah?
- 4:00Yeah, definitely, yeah.
- 4:03325.
- 4:03Yeah.
- 4:03Does the limit exist?
- 4:05I hope not.
- 4:07I hope I can keep climbing,
- 4:08but I'd love it if the
- 4:09other stuff could climb with it.
- 4:11We'll work on that.
- 4:15So that's the part I really
- 4:16wanted to get into is Jamie
- 4:18asked you about your 325 pound snatch.
- 4:21And then you immediately said,
- 4:22I wish everything else
- 4:24would climb with it.
- 4:26Yeah, correct.
- 4:27So I know you've made some
- 4:28coaching changes before last season.
- 4:32Yeah.
- 4:34And this season,
- 4:35when we watch you in the
- 4:37Open and quarterfinals,
- 4:39it was obvious you have
- 4:41made significant growth in
- 4:42those other areas.
- 4:45What happened with that change?
- 4:47First person that said that,
- 4:48thank you so much.
- 4:50What?
- 4:51Yeah, thank you.
- 4:53We've been talking about that.
- 4:54Definitely.
- 4:55probably but like um no what
- 4:58change what changes have I
- 4:59made is that what you were
- 5:00trying to go for yeah yeah
- 5:02yeah um so basically um
- 5:07I've been working with a
- 5:08running coach his name's uh
- 5:10rich and uh he I kind of he
- 5:13joined the team after rogue
- 5:15last year and I feel like
- 5:17my my engines has gotten a
- 5:19lot better since working with him um
- 5:22Obviously,
- 5:23I'm proud of my efforts in the
- 5:25opening quarterfinals,
- 5:26but I'm really pumped to
- 5:28see how it'll translate at
- 5:29a live competition where it matters most.
- 5:33You know,
- 5:34sometimes the nerves get to you
- 5:35if you have an event that
- 5:37previously you haven't done too well at.
- 5:39And so I want to see how I
- 5:42manage that moving into
- 5:44this semifinal next week.
- 5:47So Jamie and I have a show
- 5:49on Sunday nights with
- 5:50Carolyn Prevo where we just
- 5:53talk about the news of CrossFit.
- 5:55And Jamie and I both picked
- 5:58you as one to watch this
- 6:00season after your open performance.
- 6:02Thank you.
- 6:04And the reason I say that is
- 6:07you were doing things in
- 6:08the open that you're not
- 6:10typically good at very well.
- 6:13It's not about your overall placement.
- 6:14It was about he's taken
- 6:16things that were once a
- 6:17weakness and he's crushing them.
- 6:21How did that make you feel?
- 6:24I think it gave me a boost
- 6:25of confidence going into
- 6:27training and continuing to
- 6:29push it in training, push the intensity.
- 6:34Honestly, it's hard to tell in the open.
- 6:38You can't really put too
- 6:40much stock in it because
- 6:41you don't know where other
- 6:42people are at in their
- 6:43season and what they're
- 6:45working on at that point
- 6:46because they're working
- 6:47Because some guys can just
- 6:50run a few weeks and then
- 6:51get back into tip-top
- 6:53running shape heading into
- 6:54a live competition.
- 6:56But I was proud with the
- 6:58movements that did show up
- 7:00that I was able to hold my own.
- 7:01I feel like I was able to
- 7:02hold my own on...
- 7:04fast cadence burpees uh
- 7:06rowing you know a moderate
- 7:08pace for a long time domain
- 7:10as well as like thrusters
- 7:11and pull-ups like really
- 7:13spiked heart rate being
- 7:14able to move through that
- 7:15which all three of those
- 7:17would have given me trouble
- 7:18in the past jamie I'm gonna
- 7:21let you follow up if you
- 7:22have anything here yeah I
- 7:24mean for me like
- 7:26watching you and I and I
- 7:28wish I knew like more of
- 7:29like your specific
- 7:30performances in your teen
- 7:33life um it's easy for me to
- 7:35like get behind you and a
- 7:36lot of people because you
- 7:38are capable of those home
- 7:39run hits with the strength
- 7:41you're great on your hands
- 7:43and that so like knowing
- 7:45someone's gonna walk out
- 7:46and probably be like top
- 7:48two in a two in a workout
- 7:49you're you know it's easy
- 7:51to cheer for you um
- 7:53And for me in the past,
- 7:55and I was like with Rogue, I was like, oh,
- 7:57this one's going to suck
- 7:59for him or whatever.
- 8:00And I was really excited
- 8:02once I saw the open.
- 8:05So I guess what I don't
- 8:06really know specifically is,
- 8:08because he can see I'm walking,
- 8:10you're great.
- 8:10So would you say it's like,
- 8:14is that the only gymnastics
- 8:15movement that you're
- 8:16greater or do you have like,
- 8:19specific gymnastics things
- 8:20that you're incredible at
- 8:21or have you always been
- 8:21incredible at rings um
- 8:23because we know you're
- 8:24great with a barbell yeah I
- 8:26mean it's it's hard to know
- 8:28you know until you step on
- 8:30that competition floor
- 8:32honestly the handstand
- 8:33stuff I've always been good
- 8:35at handstand walk handstand
- 8:36push-up um even on the
- 8:37competition floor um
- 8:40because I did spend so much
- 8:42time on my hands growing up,
- 8:44like just for fun at the gym.
- 8:46I've been, you know,
- 8:48in the CrossFit gym since I
- 8:49was nine years old.
- 8:50And that's kind of what I
- 8:51love to do is those skills.
- 8:53For some reason,
- 8:54being on my hands was just
- 8:55the most fun for me.
- 8:58I remember I was walking up
- 8:59the parking lot in my apartment complex,
- 9:02which is like an incline, very
- 9:05low uh small angle incline
- 9:08up on my hands all the way
- 9:10up and you know making
- 9:11little challenges like that
- 9:13but um other other stuff
- 9:15like rings um I've been
- 9:17working a lot on sometimes
- 9:20it was easy for me to just
- 9:21muscle through those
- 9:22movements at the scene and
- 9:24not worry about them too
- 9:26much but the higher volume
- 9:28is something that I've been
- 9:29working on as I'm in this elite division
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:34I mean, cause you took 10 in the, um,
- 9:37in quarterfinals with,
- 9:38with a lot of gymnastics in there,
- 9:40the strict handstand pushup,
- 9:41the rope climb, the ring muscle up.
- 9:43Um,
- 9:43and that was your best performance in
- 9:44quarterfinals.
- 9:45So like that scene,
- 9:46that is super exciting as a fan of yours.
- 9:50Um, and like you said, the burpees, um,
- 9:52would you,
- 9:53would you say typically the
- 9:54shorter high power quick
- 9:57workouts were better for
- 9:58you as opposed to like a
- 9:59long grindy 20 minute?
- 10:01I think in the quarterfinals, yes.
- 10:05In the way that I felt like
- 10:07the burpees kind of were a
- 10:10shock for me a little bit.
- 10:11I think they were for people
- 10:12too towards the top.
- 10:15It just was more of a grindy
- 10:16workout than I expected it to be,
- 10:18more of a lower leg burner.
- 10:21And so I didn't do as well
- 10:23as I'd hoped now.
- 10:24But I think that I was even
- 10:26– regardless of the –
- 10:28you know the first round
- 10:30second round that that
- 10:31feeling kind of crept up on
- 10:33me but I was still able to
- 10:35finish strong so I'm I'm
- 10:36proud of my effort there
- 10:37and I did make improvement
- 10:39if they had like 150
- 10:40burpees burpee box jump
- 10:42overs last year in quarters
- 10:44probably would have been a
- 10:46huge detriment for me but
- 10:47this year was a little
- 10:48better so improvement all
- 10:50is all I can ask for
- 10:52For sure.
- 10:53I think I'm super excited to
- 10:56see you do workout one of semis,
- 10:58especially hearing that
- 10:59you've been working with a running coach.
- 11:00Like I feel like that that's
- 11:02going to be like the true test for you.
- 11:04It gets your barbell cycling in there,
- 11:06but can we run and keep that up?
- 11:09Yeah, I agree.
- 11:10And regardless, you know,
- 11:11that's just event one of the weekend.
- 11:13So being able to show up after that,
- 11:15regardless of the outcome,
- 11:16I know that I can, oh, for sure,
- 11:19improve from what I was
- 11:20last year in the first event,
- 11:22the long event last year at semifinals.
- 11:24And, you know, if I see improvement there,
- 11:28you know,
- 11:29and then I'll move on for the
- 11:30rest of the weekend.
- 11:32Are you happy it's a foot
- 11:34race instead of a machine?
- 11:36Oh, yes.
- 11:37I'm excited for that.
- 11:39I think it'll play out
- 11:41better for me in a
- 11:43competition to where I can
- 11:44see athletes around me moving.
- 11:47And I think I thrive off of
- 11:49that more rather than being on a machine.
- 11:52I think it was a couple of
- 11:53years ago at Zalos is when
- 11:55you kind of announced that
- 11:56you had a new coach.
- 11:58Is that who you're still with today?
- 11:59Yeah, his name's Ed.
- 12:02And yeah, I'm still with him today.
- 12:06I I've seen him at events
- 12:07and I don't think there's a
- 12:08more active coach.
- 12:10Maybe him and Justin Cutler
- 12:12both like could race around the,
- 12:14the event floor as much as they move.
- 12:18He also seems like a great hype man.
- 12:20Like it encourages you when you need it.
- 12:23Is that something you need in your,
- 12:24in your circle?
- 12:27I mean, yeah,
- 12:28he's filled that role to a T
- 12:30as a great encourager,
- 12:32and he works a lot as well
- 12:34on analytics and programming,
- 12:37just as much as he's
- 12:40putting in a lot of effort
- 12:41working with other specialist coaches.
- 12:43Like another coach I have, Zach, who is –
- 12:47is a part of conjugate and
- 12:49works with me on like accessories and, uh,
- 12:51power lifting.
- 12:53But yeah, he,
- 12:54he brings the whole team
- 12:55around me and I'm super grateful for him.
- 12:59So other than like programming,
- 13:01is there anything else you
- 13:02had to dial in in your life
- 13:04to get better at this sport?
- 13:06Um, like off the floor?
- 13:07I mean, to be honest, yeah,
- 13:10I'm still dialing in the
- 13:11balance aspect and, and, um,
- 13:14just my mentality
- 13:16approaching the sport in
- 13:17general and not being as
- 13:19all or nothing and trying
- 13:22to have more longevity in
- 13:25how I approach my training
- 13:27and the sport in general.
- 13:28And I'm still working on that.
- 13:31I'm nowhere close to like
- 13:34being at optimal right now,
- 13:35but it's just a process of
- 13:38trying new things and
- 13:40improving between the years.
- 13:46Are you a full-time athlete?
- 13:47Are you in school?
- 13:49Right now, I'm basically full-time.
- 13:52I'm taking one class at school,
- 13:54and I'm just chipping away.
- 13:58CrossFit is my first love,
- 13:59but I'm also chipping away
- 14:00at an engineering degree.
- 14:05So no small feat there either.
- 14:07Well, I mean, I'm going pretty slow at it,
- 14:11so it's grinding,
- 14:13but I'm taking a math class.
- 14:16It keeps my mind a little
- 14:18bit off of being stressed
- 14:19out for semifinals and stuff,
- 14:21just to have one thing to
- 14:23do throughout the week.
- 14:26Does it help you be able to
- 14:27add plates fast?
- 14:30I don't know about that, but maybe.
- 14:33Yeah.
- 14:36So Europe went this morning on event one.
- 14:38Did you get a chance to look
- 14:39at them at all?
- 14:40I kind of scanned through
- 14:41the live stream a little bit.
- 14:44But yeah, I think I like that.
- 14:46I hope they have a ring like
- 14:48they did there where we all
- 14:50face each other.
- 14:50That'd be pretty cool.
- 14:53Yeah,
- 14:54there's a lot of rumors out there for
- 14:56West because you're at that
- 14:57iconic location.
- 14:58And Boz said on Barbell Spin,
- 15:01I think a week and a half ago,
- 15:04that the run was going to be iconic.
- 15:08And Carson's known for that berm.
- 15:10If...
- 15:14I've heard rumors of a hill.
- 15:17That's what I've heard.
- 15:18I don't know how accurate,
- 15:21but I've heard rumors of an
- 15:22out and up and then back down.
- 15:26Does it matter to you?
- 15:29Um,
- 15:29I think it matters in my approach on
- 15:32the on game day,
- 15:33but you can't simulate here
- 15:36in training like you can't
- 15:37simulate what the course is
- 15:38going to feel like or what
- 15:39it's going to be.
- 15:40But I have trained on hills
- 15:41before so I know how to
- 15:43kind of shift my strategy around that.
- 15:48Jeffrey Birchfield asks,
- 15:49how many hours a semester.
- 15:51hours a semester per um I
- 15:54think if if he's referring
- 15:56to classes uh it'd be
- 15:59probably three hours right
- 16:00now it's quarter the
- 16:02quarter system where I'm at
- 16:04um it's only like two and a
- 16:06half months of school for
- 16:08this quarter uh yeah three
- 16:10hours on a weekly basis
- 16:12last quarter I think a lab two six seven
- 16:19eight eight hours uh eight
- 16:22or nine hours per week so
- 16:24it's not that it's it's not
- 16:25a full course load at all
- 16:27it's just uh like I said
- 16:28chipping away yeah uh
- 16:31jeffrey's a teacher in
- 16:32texas so that that's why
- 16:34he's all into that awesome
- 16:36yeah um so so you've
- 16:41changed coaches in in your
- 16:42circle what who are you
- 16:44taking with you to carson
- 16:46uh I think all my coaches
- 16:47are going to be the
- 16:49Yeah, all of them.
- 16:51Ed's going to be with me in
- 16:51the warm area and then I'll
- 16:53have them hustling around
- 16:56the venue and I'll get to
- 16:58meet with them before
- 16:59events and stuff like that.
- 17:01Family?
- 17:03Yeah,
- 17:03both my parents and my little brother
- 17:05will be there too as well.
- 17:07Yeah.
- 17:08I've heard from the people
- 17:09at the pit that your family
- 17:11are super supportive.
- 17:12Oh yeah.
- 17:13Yeah.
- 17:13I couldn't do this without them.
- 17:15Yeah.
- 17:16They're, they're really supportive,
- 17:17especially with school and,
- 17:19and training and stuff.
- 17:20And you know,
- 17:21I'm just helping me follow my
- 17:24dream and hopefully one day
- 17:26I can give it back and an equal measure.
- 17:32Does your family CrossFit?
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:34All of them.
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:36Do you live at home?
- 17:38I do, yeah.
- 17:39I live home right now.
- 17:41I lived on campus for a while,
- 17:42but then I moved back home.
- 17:48And I'm sure you guys know
- 17:50that I was in Iowa.
- 17:51I lived there.
- 17:55Okay.
- 17:56So this year,
- 17:56we were all excited about
- 17:58your open finish,
- 17:59and then we saw you got the penalty.
- 18:01Yeah, yeah.
- 18:03Was it good to get that in
- 18:04the open just as like
- 18:06training the mindset that
- 18:08that's just one setback and
- 18:10you have to be able to move on from that?
- 18:12Exactly.
- 18:14I would rather it happen in
- 18:15the open than in quarters.
- 18:17And I think that...
- 18:20It taught me a lesson that
- 18:22could have been pretty
- 18:25costly if I didn't learn
- 18:27that lesson in the Open because it was,
- 18:29for me, it was a hip extension.
- 18:31It was the same thing on the
- 18:34step-ups this year for some athletes.
- 18:36And, you know,
- 18:37I have sympathy for that
- 18:38because it's tough because
- 18:40you want to go fast.
- 18:42And I really had to slow
- 18:43myself down on the step-ups.
- 18:45But, yeah.
- 18:47Like,
- 18:48I think I was blessed because the penalty,
- 18:53it didn't seem like that at first.
- 18:54A little bit frustrated.
- 18:57But I did know that my abs
- 18:58were pretty on the line.
- 19:01Like,
- 19:02I totally pulled hard to leave the
- 19:04penalty,
- 19:05but I was just kind of bummed out.
- 19:08It worked out in the end.
- 19:11Yeah, that's tough.
- 19:13I mean, we saw...
- 19:15Lots of videos that probably
- 19:17had very similar reps here.
- 19:19So it's in,
- 19:20but it's a great perspective to
- 19:22just take that hit there
- 19:24and move better moving forward.
- 19:25Cause yeah,
- 19:26it could have been way more
- 19:27costly in quarters.
- 19:29Yeah.
- 19:29I mean, ending a season because of is,
- 19:33is tough.
- 19:34I'm sure all those athletes
- 19:36will bounce back.
- 19:38Yeah.
- 19:38I mean, I'm just happy that,
- 19:41that it happened.
- 19:42I did.
- 19:44Yeah, for you, it just cost you the win,
- 19:46which would have been a
- 19:48nice little check in that event.
- 19:51But your season got to keep going.
- 19:54Exactly, exactly.
- 19:56Yeah.
- 19:59And I like the fact that you
- 20:00had to face that little bit
- 20:01of adversity going into the
- 20:03year just to kind of test
- 20:04all the stuff you've
- 20:05learned in the offseason.
- 20:06Yeah.
- 20:07yeah yeah and and adversity
- 20:10is something that I've uh
- 20:12you know worked on trying
- 20:15to how to face it you know
- 20:17uh sometimes in the past I
- 20:19was a little bit hesitant
- 20:20to to do hard things and
- 20:22the workouts that came
- 20:23naturally to me like the
- 20:25events that I was naturally
- 20:27good at like a handstand
- 20:28walk I was I was confident
- 20:30in them and then other ones
- 20:31I lost that that confidence
- 20:33heading into them and
- 20:35because they were challenging and new.
- 20:37So having that little bit of
- 20:40adversity is always good to
- 20:42get those reps in for when
- 20:43it matters most.
- 20:46So when you look at the semifinal workouts,
- 20:49at the very end of the weekend,
- 20:51you have two things that
- 20:53would be typically a tutor workout.
- 20:57Like we don't know the
- 20:57details of the handstand walk,
- 20:59but we know you're great on your hands.
- 21:01And we know that you can snatch a barbell.
- 21:05yeah are you more excited
- 21:08for those two events or are
- 21:09you more excited for the
- 21:10other four to see how far you've come
- 21:14Um, I, I would say the latter,
- 21:16I I'm excited for the other
- 21:17four to see how far I've
- 21:18come because I know that, um, those,
- 21:22those two workouts you just
- 21:23listed will be a home run.
- 21:26If not, you know, if not top five,
- 21:29but like really good finishes for me.
- 21:30Like, um, so, but I'm,
- 21:33I'm excited to see how all
- 21:34the other stuff has progressed as well.
- 21:37How do you – and I'm sure
- 21:39you and your coaches have a game plan,
- 21:41but knowing that you get to
- 21:43finish the weekend with two home runs,
- 21:45how do you keep your mind
- 21:48in the game on the four
- 21:50that might be a little bit tougher?
- 21:53I mean, you just take it one at a time.
- 21:56And, you know,
- 21:58if you receive some
- 22:00adversity where you're in
- 22:03or whatever's happening in
- 22:04the back of your head, you've got –
- 22:08two things that are lined up
- 22:09really well for you at the
- 22:10end of the weekend
- 22:11historically and uh you
- 22:14know just moving moving
- 22:15forward with that that
- 22:16thought in mind and how are
- 22:19you on an echo um I've
- 22:21gotten better I would say
- 22:22uh last year I i was pretty
- 22:25uh middle of the pack in
- 22:27those events the last last
- 22:29year I took 18th I think
- 22:31and um I would say improved
- 22:33from that where I was there awesome
- 22:38If you had to name one thing
- 22:40that you got better at the most,
- 22:43what would that one thing be?
- 22:44I would say rowing, to be honest.
- 22:50For some reason, the whole season,
- 22:52my rowing splits and the
- 22:54workouts that I've been
- 22:55doing on that have...
- 22:56have been way better than I
- 22:58would have ever expected them to be.
- 23:02And not to say all the other
- 23:03stuff hasn't progressed,
- 23:04but I'm really proud of the
- 23:06work I've put in that, for sure.
- 23:10So you've never had the
- 23:11opportunity to compete in Carson.
- 23:15You missed it by one year.
- 23:17Are you excited to go to
- 23:19Carson and compete on that floor?
- 23:21I mean, like I said,
- 23:23I've been doing CrossFit
- 23:24since I was nine years old,
- 23:25but I've also watched the
- 23:26game since they were on
- 23:28ESPN back when Rich Froning
- 23:31was winning in Carson.
- 23:33So, yeah,
- 23:35I'm super excited to kind of see
- 23:38the nostalgia aspect of the
- 23:41sport and compete there now.
- 23:43So that's pretty cool.
- 23:46Will it be hard to contain?
- 23:48I talked to one athlete a
- 23:52couple days ago who said
- 23:53he's so afraid on that run
- 23:54that he's going to blow it
- 23:56out right off the get-go
- 23:57because he's going to be so
- 23:59excited to be on the tennis
- 24:00stadium floor.
- 24:01Do you have any fears like that?
- 24:03Yeah, I mean, for sure.
- 24:06I think that the excitement
- 24:08can sometimes hurt you,
- 24:10but you just got to breathe and just...
- 24:14Take in the sights after the
- 24:15event is done.
- 24:17Don't worry too much about
- 24:19what's going on around you
- 24:20until you got the work done.
- 24:23Then you can appreciate where you're at.
- 24:27That's really cool.
- 24:30What is your realistic goal
- 24:31for this season?
- 24:34I think I want to qualify to the games.
- 24:37I want to punch my ticket.
- 24:38That's my goal, number one.
- 24:40And, you know, train hard for the games.
- 24:43I think that I want to show
- 24:46that I can be a mentally improved
- 24:54Do you have – you said – I
- 24:56think you broke up a little
- 24:58bit when you said it,
- 24:58that you've trained a
- 24:59little bit with Sam and
- 25:01Cole at some points in the offseason.
- 25:04Is that something you do regularly?
- 25:06I have in the past,
- 25:08but not this past year.
- 25:10I did train a little with James Craig,
- 25:13though.
- 25:14Okay.
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:15Does that help break up just
- 25:17the monotony of training?
- 25:19Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 25:21whenever I do see him every
- 25:22once in a while,
- 25:23it's probably a little bit
- 25:25in the offseason too much.
- 25:26But it does, it helps to kind of, you know,
- 25:31see where a close caliber
- 25:35athlete to you is at in their training.
- 25:38And, yeah, yeah.
- 25:43So my last question before we let you go,
- 25:45and I'll open it up to Jamie,
- 25:46is you have someone like
- 25:48James who is like a machine master,
- 25:51right?
- 25:52And that's something that
- 25:53you've improved on this year.
- 25:56Is it good to get to compare
- 25:57yourself against him on
- 25:58those types of things if
- 26:00you train together for a day?
- 26:02Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:03I mean, if anything,
- 26:04it'll humble you to work
- 26:06harder to get as close as
- 26:09you can to whatever you're putting up.
- 26:13And I'm totally okay with
- 26:14that and bringing that data
- 26:16into my own training.
- 26:21Jamie?
- 26:24I'm just excited to watch you work.
- 26:27Like, I know for me,
- 26:29workout one would be
- 26:31stressful for me because I would want to,
- 26:34like, run with the pack, but also, like,
- 26:38also run my own race.
- 26:39And like, I think fortunately for you,
- 26:41you've had quite a bit of
- 26:42competition experience, but does that,
- 26:44does that like,
- 26:45does that kind of stuff make you nervous?
- 26:47Cause like redlining too early,
- 26:49like blowing up too early
- 26:50in a workout like that just
- 26:52is one of my like panic
- 26:54modes when I go to comps.
- 26:56yeah I mean I think that's
- 26:58the workout that I've run
- 27:00through my head the most um
- 27:03and just different ways
- 27:05that I'm gonna talk to
- 27:06myself and make sure that I
- 27:07stay in it for the entire
- 27:0920 plus minutes of work um
- 27:13I think that you know
- 27:15historically in those
- 27:17longer events there's a
- 27:18point where I either in the
- 27:20workout I either
- 27:22it's like a precipice where
- 27:24I start to like snowball
- 27:26downhill or or I just
- 27:28continue on and it actually
- 27:30I get a second wind and I'm
- 27:33I get to push push hard to the end.
- 27:35So I think that make sure
- 27:39that I stay in my own lane
- 27:41for the beginning and then
- 27:42finding that second wind
- 27:44towards the end will be
- 27:45really important for me for
- 27:46my performance.
- 27:49yeah do you like to chase or
- 27:51be chased um I mean I I
- 27:56think I would in that event
- 27:58I would probably chase at
- 28:00the beginning and uh and
- 28:02try and push the pace on
- 28:03the clean and jerks but uh
- 28:06yeah I mean going into
- 28:08strategy yeah that's kind
- 28:09of what I was thinking but um
- 28:13Being chased would be a privilege for me.
- 28:16I think if you're good
- 28:18enough to start at the
- 28:20beginning of the pack and
- 28:21then continue on and just have a lead,
- 28:24that's cool.
- 28:28Well, Tudor,
- 28:29I want to thank you a ton for
- 28:30being on with us.
- 28:32We love doing these semifinal series,
