- 0:1110, 9, 8, 7. Welcome to the Brandon Fogel Show.
- 0:17Every moment is an electrifying event.
- 0:20This is not just a podcast. It's a revolution of thought, unfiltered, real and raw.
- 0:25The Brandon Fogel Show, where excellence meets evolution.
- 0:30Two, one. This is the Brandon Fogel Show.
- 0:45Did you all watch the NFL draft this year? Did you all watch it?
- 0:49Honestly, I did not watch it. I did not watch it.
- 0:53Man, I wish... There's so many things I wish I could watch, but it's like I just... I...
- 1:00I just, I feel like I don't have time for nothing. I don't know.
- 1:04I wish I could watch news all day and I wish I could watch NFL and all the sports,
- 1:09NBA, baseball, everything that's going on.
- 1:11There's so many things I wish I just had time for, but it's like,
- 1:14you don't have time for nothing.
- 1:16You don't have time for anything. You know, I would love to just read up and
- 1:19I'll have all this stuff.
- 1:20So I am coming from it from a very outside view ish. The NFL draft is awesome to watch.
- 1:26I love to watch it, you know, and it's just. Just, I mean, if you've ever seen
- 1:30the movie Draft Day with Kevin Costner, it is an awesome movie.
- 1:34And it goes through like in depth and detail of how intense the draft is,
- 1:40how many moving parts are happening in every draft behind the scenes.
- 1:44We just see that commish come out there and just walk Trott out there and then
- 1:48say, with the number one pick, with the number one pick in the 2024 NFL draft,
- 1:54the Chicago Bears select. And who did they grab?
- 1:58Let's go actually check it out who did they grab they grabbed
- 2:01caleb williams caleb williams from the
- 2:04usc from usc yeah they're
- 2:08just looking through the first the first round and the picks that
- 2:10were made there were a lot of quarterbacks there are a lot of quarterbacks and
- 2:14you can and that is that is the quarterback position is the number one position
- 2:18in all of sports that they are the field general they are the one calling the
- 2:22shots and it is the most viewed position but a quarterback they are on their
- 2:27own and they are making plays. They determine who wins and loses.
- 2:30I would say that the quarterback is the number one deciding factor.
- 2:33That's why, that's why they get paid so much.
- 2:35And also that's why they are, they go so high in the draft like that.
- 2:39And the, the turning point of a team starts at that quarterback position.
- 2:44So you can see in the first round, I mean, there is just a plethora of quarterbacks
- 2:50that went in that first round.
- 2:51We hop over to CBS and news.
- 2:55And it looks like they, I mean, just look at through quarterback,
- 2:57quarterback, quarterback, quarterback, quarterback, you know.
- 3:02And there were a ton of quarterback because, I mean, you get that quarterback
- 3:05and that is your cornerstone.
- 3:07Like if you're the, if you're the Kansas City Chiefs, we got our cornerstone, baby.
- 3:11Patrick Mahomes, we got our cornerstone and we build around Patrick Mahomes.
- 3:18First of all, you got to be able to protect your quarterback.
- 3:20You got to be able to protect that blind side.
- 3:23And after the Buccaneers fiasco, a couple of years back in the Super Bowl where
- 3:29Patrick Patrick Mahomes went against Tom Brady.
- 3:31The Kansas City Chiefs needed to realign their thought process in their mind
- 3:36and think, okay, we need to support and protect our number one asset,
- 3:42which is Patrick Mahomes. As you can see, I am a little biased.
- 3:45As you can see from the NFL draft, so like we went quarterback and I got a friend,
- 3:51the people that I go to and I work with every day, they talk sports.
- 3:55And I got a friend that he is all about the Vikings and he wanted Drake May
- 4:01and he was sort of crushed when the Vikings weren't able to go get up in the
- 4:06draft and get Drake May. Drake May.
- 4:09Drake May. I don't know why I said it like that, but they didn't go up and grab
- 4:13him and they missed out on that, but they made a good pick.
- 4:17I would say they still got that quarterback, that foundational component that's
- 4:21going to be to their team with J.J. McCarthy.
- 4:24So he should be pretty good. But it's like, you look at this,
- 4:27Patrick Mahomes, what did he go? Did he go number nine or something like that? He went number nine.
- 4:32The most elite player in NFL history, I would say, is Patrick Mahomes,
- 4:37and so many teams missed out on him.
- 4:39Mitch Trubisky went ahead of him. There's a number one, another,
- 4:42I think other quarterbacks went ahead of him, but I know Mitch Trubisky went
- 4:46ahead of Patrick Mahomes. And it's like.
- 4:48It is always hindsight 2020. You can have the best NFL minds, and it doesn't matter.
- 4:56It's a luck of the draw sometimes. But you can maybe go out there and try to
- 5:00find talent and have that eye that can find who is going to be awesome in this
- 5:06league, who is going to take it to the next level, take your team to the next level.
- 5:09So we got Marvin Harrison Jr., who went as number four from Ohio State,
- 5:14and he went to the Cardinals. He went to the Cardinals.
- 5:17Now with him going over to help out murray is
- 5:20he going to be able to i mean they could actually be pretty
- 5:24dominant marvin harrison jr i think is going to be an
- 5:27elite player in the nfl is not just going to be somebody who just kind of fades
- 5:31into the background and just does a occasionally makes a good play here and
- 5:36there i think he is going to be a dominant player in the nfl marvin harrison
- 5:40I don't think that's too me stepping out too far on the ledge to make that call.
- 5:46I think he is going to be a great player, but, but who could be better?
- 5:51I don't know. I guess I'm hopeful that who the chief's got is would be better. Xavier worthy.
- 5:57If you've heard of this guy, this guy from the Texas wide receiver, he is, he's a beast.
- 6:04I really don't know too much about him, but I want to think he's a beast.
- 6:07And all I know about him is he had a good career at Texas.
- 6:13I think he had three years there. Not just he didn't just occasionally make
- 6:17some good plays, but he had a consistent, strong career at Texas.
- 6:20He had good hands, extremely fast.
- 6:23But he does have a, he's a smaller window. He's a smaller window for Patrick to throw to.
- 6:29But if anyone can get it to somebody, it's Patrick Mahomes.
- 6:33Patrick Mahomes literally hit so many people, and he's done this.
- 6:36If you are a Chiefs fan and you've seen Patrick out there, there are so many
- 6:41freaking plays that he throws it perfectly and.
- 6:47Receivers have dropped i would love to just pull up how
- 6:50many drops have patrick's receivers over his
- 6:53entire career i i mentioned the buccaneers super
- 6:56bowl fiasco earlier on this video that game
- 7:00literally crushed my heart because i mean he patrick he
- 7:04played he was hurt he was hurt and he
- 7:07was getting destroyed by the the defensive line
- 7:10over there but he he made so many good
- 7:13plays if you watch if you remember that game he made
- 7:16so many awesome amazing throws and
- 7:20escaping and just on the run constantly he would be on the run constantly and
- 7:25make this amazing throw hit the guy in the hands and they drop it so it's like
- 7:29you don't like there you lose all momentum you don't you don't move the chains
- 7:34and he and it's like it just completely stopped their their progression in the game.
- 7:40It's like that, that game was extremely tough.
- 7:44That was, that one was tough to watch that Superbowl way back when,
- 7:47when they played the Buccaneers.
- 7:48But then I would say the, the, the toughest game for me to watch was when Patrick
- 7:54lost to the Bengals in the playoffs, maybe three years ago, when he,
- 7:58they were up in the first half and just dominating and killing the Bengals.
- 8:03And then Patrick, this was, that was the game that I saw that he actually is
- 8:08human. and he made mental mistakes.
- 8:11It started with a mental mistake right before half when he threw it to Tyreek
- 8:15and they didn't even score before going into the half.
- 8:18There was just some mental gaps in that game that is like, he is human, you know?
- 8:22But he definitely has come back from that.
- 8:25As a player in the NFL, you actually have footage of everything that you just
- 8:31did the previous week. Sports analysis, you know.
- 8:35I mean, right now, I probably could like maybe a few years back when I intensely
- 8:40was watching sports like non-stop.
- 8:43I watch sports non-stop and I wish I could watch sports non-stop now,
- 8:48but there's so many other things I wish I could do, you know?
- 8:50And it's like, you only have so much time, but I love the NFL.
- 8:54I love the NFL. I've always been a player-driven person in pretty much all sports.
- 8:59I have my teams that I like.
- 9:01I've been way more so with the NBA, a player driven person because I live around
- 9:07Kansas City and it's we don't have a team we don't have an NBA team we got the
- 9:13Royals and we got the Chiefs baby the Chiefs Red Kingdom.
- 9:18You know we got the Chiefs you
- 9:21know but we need that NBA
- 9:24team and we got sporting KC soccer baby we
- 9:28got good soccer we got good soccer they've been
- 9:31good every now and then but we need to
- 9:34get that nba team in kc nba team
- 9:37because i do love the nba i have faded away from it
- 9:40a lot more than i used to be i guess because it's just just so many things i
- 9:46don't like in the nba that are happening and all that so it's not been as exciting
- 9:50to watch but with the nfl draft if you got to catch it if you got to see that
- 9:56draft and see what was going
- 9:58on what were your what were your takeaways from it you
- 10:01know as i said i didn't watch it i don't think i watched one
- 10:04bit of it i've just kind of caught kind of what's and just word
- 10:07of mouth people just described what happened and and last year the draft was
- 10:12in kc so that was cool that was cool but it is a fun thing i would always love
- 10:17i always love watching the nfl draft just didn't catch it this year you all
- 10:21we focus on is that first round but the the greatest nfl player in history, Tom Brady.
- 10:26He went like the last round of the draft.
- 10:29And then even Brock Purdy, who he was Mr. Irrelevant, the last pick.
- 10:34So it's like, you can see and guess, get a guess from what happened and who
- 10:40got picked and everything like that.
- 10:41But it's like, we won't know until a couple of years from now,
- 10:46who made the dumb picks and who made the amazing picks and who who look looks
- 10:52extremely smart and who had that awesome insight.
- 10:56Wouldn't really, they, I mean, a lot, sometimes it's just a crapshoot and it's
- 11:01like, it's just, you know, you're, you,
- 11:02you, you do your best and you put your best into it to, to pull who is going
- 11:07to, who's going to make a difference and who has that it factor and all that. But yeah.
- 11:12It, we won't know. Time will tell. We didn't immediately know about Patrick
- 11:17Mahomes until a couple of years after he didn't play that fault that first year
- 11:20in his, in his NFL career.
- 11:22It wasn't until the second year that he actually started.
- 11:24He got to play one game in that first season, but I didn't, I did not see Patrick Mahomes coming really.
- 11:31I remember even though his, his first year starting, I picked him and he was on my team.
- 11:37What is it called? Fantasy football. He was on my team in fantasy football,
- 11:40but I had no idea what was going to happen with Patrick Mahomes.
- 11:45And that was when he had that 50 touchdown season and everything like that.
- 11:49But he's definitely shattered the mold.
- 11:52He is next level. And I hope he can stay healthy and keep going for years to come.
- 12:00But who are the winners? Who are the losers in this NFL draft? What do you say?
- 12:05A lot of quarterbacks went. so then that
- 12:08quarterback is you got to get that quarterback and then you
- 12:11got to protect him and then you got to get him a supporting cast and I think
- 12:15that the Chiefs are doing a good job of that getting that receiver position
- 12:18and we'll just see what next year this I guess going into the 2024 season looks
- 12:24like for the Kansas City Chiefs but all right and I hope you have a wonderful
- 12:27day and I'll see you in the next video.
