- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of The
- 0:02Epstein Chronicles. A couple of weeks ago, we were talking
- 0:06about Columbia University and the games they played to help
- 0:10Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend, Krinny a Shuliac get into the university. Well,
- 0:15now the person responsible for that, or one of the
- 0:18people responsible for that, has lost their job. And that
- 0:22person is doctor James Fine, who is a senior associate
- 0:26dean for a post doctoral academic and student affairs and
- 0:30he's going to be stepping down for the role that
- 0:33he played in making all of that happen. And look,
- 0:36I'm not going to sit here and tell you that
- 0:37only Jeffrey Epstein was able to do things like this.
- 0:41This is something that rich people do all the time.
- 0:44They reach out to people that are at universities or corporations, whatever,
- 0:48and they find a way for their family members or
- 0:51their loved ones to get into the university of their choice,
- 0:54even if their qualifications might be a little bit lacking.
- 0:58So it's not just Jeffreyeppeein that does this or did this.
- 1:02It's certainly something that all these kinds of people do.
- 1:04I mean, look at that college scandal we saw from
- 1:06a few years ago. I forget the lady's name, but
- 1:09some famous lady, several famous people. They were sending their
- 1:13kids to college, I forget what schools under false pretenses.
- 1:17And they ended up going to prison for it. So
- 1:20it's not like it's not a big deal. It is.
- 1:22So it's nice to see Columbia here make a move
- 1:25and get rid of this dude. All right, So let's
- 1:27see what this article has to say. This article was
- 1:30published by the Columbia Spectator and the Headline College. A
- 1:34dental medicine administrator who twice aided Epstein's girlfriend's admission is
- 1:39said to exit their post. This article was authored by
- 1:45Yushoshi Does and Fiona who. Nearly four months after the
- 1:51university said it had discipline those involved in the irregular
- 1:54admission of Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend to the College of Dental Medicine,
- 1:59Columbia announced Wednesday that another key administrator implicated, doctor James Fine,
- 2:05Senior Associate dean for a post doctoral academic and student Affairs,
- 2:09will step down from his role. Look all, hope is
- 2:13not lost for doctor Fine. There's always clown College. The
- 2:18announcement comes a month after a Spectator found that Fine
- 2:21had written Krinna Shuliac Dental fifteen and twenty five, a
- 2:25letter of recommendation in twenty twenty three for a postdoctoral
- 2:29program that he oversaw, and that he helped her cheat
- 2:32on her transfer exam more than a decade earlier, in
- 2:35twenty twelve, when the convicted sex offender first sought to
- 2:39get her into the College of Dental Medicine. Probably a
- 2:44good idea to have Corinnia Shuliac come in and speak
- 2:47to Congress. I mean, we're talking to Ted Waite and
- 2:51not Corinnia Shuliac, the last person to speak to Epstein
- 2:54on the phone. I would think that they'd want to
- 2:56speak with crini a Shuliac, especially considering that the phone
- 3:00that Epstein made tour that was supposed to be recorded wasn't.
- 3:05Fine however, will not fully exit the university. The tenured
- 3:09professor will retain his position as a faculty member and
- 3:12the director of the Faculty Practices at the College of
- 3:16Dental Medicine, the university announced. I mean that's the best
- 3:19Columbia could come up with. What kind of message does
- 3:25that send to the other people, other students, other people
- 3:28that might want to do the same shit, mister finded. Well,
- 3:31I might get demoted, but I'm not going to lose
- 3:33my gig. It's not going to be complete embarrassment. So
- 3:36I might as well hang out with the next Epstein
- 3:38and hook him up. I mean, in the land of
- 3:40the lawless, there is no law right, so everybody should
- 3:44just do whatever they want to do, no repercussions. Nobody
- 3:47ever gets in trouble for anything, so why not. Find's
- 3:50involvement in Shuliac's admission to Columbia began when his close
- 3:53friend doctor Thomas mcnonnie Dental eighty, contacted him after Shuliac
- 3:59was initially redjet acted from the school in twenty eleven. Magnanni,
- 4:03the dentist who first brought Epstein into the school's orbit,
- 4:06wrote to Epstein in twenty twelve that he just spoke
- 4:08with Jim Fine and he'll know tomorrow what they will
- 4:11test her on, and that a transfer test was necessary
- 4:15to keep this on the up and up. Less than
- 4:17three months after his initial rejection, Shuliac was accepted as
- 4:21a transfer student. She graduated in twenty fifteen. Imagine going
- 4:26to get your chompers cleaned from Jeffrey Epstein's ex girlfriend.
- 4:29I mean, what's next a prostate exam from nurse Ratchet.
- 4:33After graduating, Fine arranged an internship for Shuliac in twenty
- 4:36twenty three at Magnanni's Columbia affiliated private practice, where Fine
- 4:41also worked. Fine and Magnanni both provided dental care to
- 4:45Abstein and his associates and maintained long standing personal ties
- 4:49with the sex offender, according to the Justice Department records.
- 4:53But they didn't really know him. Look just a couple
- 4:56of emails. We knew the guy in passing, we hardly
- 5:00had anything to do with them. Don't believe what you
- 5:02see in those emails. It's all just a hoax. That's
- 5:06the kind of bullshit these people are still trying to pull. Buddy,
- 5:09we saw the emails. We know how close you were,
- 5:12and we know that you were giving them favorable treatment
- 5:14at the university. Just admit it. You've been caught. And
- 5:18remember all those people that were yelling and screaming about
- 5:21people's reputations are going to be destroyed. These are the
- 5:24kind of people that were trying to defend So what
- 5:27does that tell you not only about these people themselves,
- 5:30but about the people trying to defend them. Finan Magnani
- 5:35also wrote Schuliac letters of their highest recommendation for her
- 5:39admission into the years long post doctoral program, which prepares
- 5:43dentists to work an independent general dentistry practice. Shuliac applied
- 5:49in twenty twenty three, four years after Epstein killed himself
- 5:52allegedly in federal prison while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.
- 5:58I can state, as an educator and program director, I
- 6:01myself would have taken her into my program with no
- 6:04reservations or hesitation, Fine wrote in his letter of recommendation
- 6:09obtained by Spectator. I truly believe if you admit doctor
- 6:13Shuliac into your program, it'll be a wonderful benefit to
- 6:17both her and your institution. Shuliac graduated from the program
- 6:22in twenty twenty five, and listen, if Shuliac was qualified,
- 6:27no big deal. I don't have a bone to pick
- 6:31with Shuliac. I don't hate her. But the fact that
- 6:34Jeffrey Epstein was able to move the gears once again
- 6:38is just another tell and it gives you a little
- 6:41bit of a glimpse into the kind of power that
- 6:43this dude will did. The university wrote in its Wednesday
- 6:46statement that an internal investigation found Shuliac did meet the
- 6:50qualification for admission to the twenty twenty three post graduate program,
- 6:54but that separate concerns were raised about Fine's involvement in
- 6:58her application given a role as a senior administrator. The
- 7:03university declined to provide additional comment beyond that statement. And look,
- 7:07these institutions, they're an iron wall, and these colleges will
- 7:11do whatever they can to save themselves from embarrassment. How
- 7:15many times have we seen it? How many times have
- 7:17we seen things get covered up that certainly should not
- 7:20have been covered up. So it's not like Colombia's alone here.
- 7:25This is part and parcel on all these campuses. Spectators
- 7:29spoke to two College of Dental Medicine affiliates who felt
- 7:32that because Fine remains director of the Faculty Practice, the
- 7:36university's response has fallen short of what they believe the
- 7:40situation warrants. I agree with that he should be gone
- 7:43one hundred percent on, not demoted, not leaving, you know,
- 7:47some senior position. He should be gone. Why anyone at
- 7:51the university would want to be associated with them, I
- 7:54don't know. Both express discontent that doctor Letty Moss Salentin
- 8:03Shuliac's mentor who was a vice dean when Magnonnie creditor
- 8:07with doing the most to help Shuliac get in and
- 8:10finish up dental School also remains in our faculty position
- 8:14just like usual. What they want to do is just
- 8:16enough to shut you up, not really fix anything, not
- 8:20change anything, not hold anybody accountable, but shut you up.
- 8:24And unfortunately that's always been the goal. One College of
- 8:27Dental Medicine affiliate told Spectator on Friday that because both
- 8:31Fine and mas Salentine remain senior faculty members, they interact
- 8:35with students and junior faculty on a daily basis. The
- 8:39second affiliate told Spectator on Saturday that the leadership changes
- 8:42at the school have been insufficient, adding that Fine June
- 8:46thirtieth departure date the end of the Medical Center's academic year,
- 8:50look more like a scheduled administrative transition than a response
- 8:54to the findings against them all by design. Look, it's
- 8:57not just the government that's trying to control a blastrat.
- 9:01It's everybody. Everybody that's been caught up in this, and
- 9:04it's crazy that they all try to do the same
- 9:06exact thing. It's always the same exact response. Oh, we're
- 9:09having an internal investigation, and then inevitably they get to
- 9:12a point where they're like, Okay, we can't deny this anymore.
- 9:15This happened and we have to just admit it. And
- 9:18I guess Columbia University just hasn't gotten to that point yet,
- 9:21but it's coming. Doctor George Jenkins will serve as the
- 9:26new Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and doctor Philip
- 9:29Kang will serve as interim Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs.
- 9:34Effect of June thirtieth, the university announced. Jenkins, the current
- 9:38Assistant Dean for the Office of Access, Equity and Inclusion,
- 9:42has been at Columbia since two thousand and six, and Kang,
- 9:45formerly the program director of Paradontics, has been there since
- 9:49two thousand and seven. Kang declined a request for comment
- 9:53from Spectator, and Jenkins did not respond to a request
- 9:56for comment from Spectator. And they're not going to the
- 10:00university respond And I'm sure the university has told them,
- 10:04keep your mouth shut. We got this, we'll take care
- 10:06of it. Just do your job. Fine's demotion comes months
- 10:11after the university announced in February that it would remove
- 10:15Magnonnie from his admissions and volunteer leadership role, disaffiliate from
- 10:19his private practice and terminate his voluntary faculty appointment agreement,
- 10:24and that Moss Salentine would step down from her administrative roles.
- 10:28The February statement also acknowledged several affiliates involved in Chulac's
- 10:33admission who had already left the College of Dental Medicine.
- 10:37Fine did not respond to Spectator's request for comment. At
- 10:42an April tenth University Senate plenary, in response to questioning
- 10:46on Fine's involvement with Epstein, Acting university President Claire Shipman
- 10:51CC class of eighty six SIPA, class of ninety six,
- 10:55said I don't know the answer to that, but I'll
- 10:57find out. She added, We're investigating everything that comes up.
- 11:01The university announced its conclusion to that investigation in its
- 11:05Wednesday statement. An internal investigation into the matter did not
- 11:09reveal an improper admission, the university wrote, of course it didn't.
- 11:14Nothing happened here, nothing was improper. Epstein followed the chain
- 11:18of command. But it sure looks like the evidence points
- 11:21somewhere else. So my guess is that Columbia is going
- 11:25to try this narrative, and when this narrative fails, they'll
- 11:29just admit that they were in the wrong, just like
- 11:32Harvard did, and just like multiple other institutions have done
- 11:35throughout the past. So, like usual, we'll keep an eye
- 11:39on it, and when we got some more to add,
- 11:41we'll get it added to the catalog. All the information
- 11:44that goes with this episode can be found in the
- 11:47description box.
