- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, and Welcome
- 0:23Speaker 1: to the Season with Peter Schreger. We have another episode
- 0:27Speaker 1: on our feed this week and that's a long, extensive,
- 0:30Speaker 1: in depth interview with Michael Vick.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Vic is incredible in our sit down.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I work with Michael on the weekends on Fox NFL Kickoff,
- 0:38Speaker 1: but this season was kicked off with a premiere of
- 0:43Speaker 1: a movie that he's been working on for three years
- 0:44Speaker 1: as a producer, called The Evolution of the Black Quarterback.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We get into that, we get into a sit down
- 0:48Speaker 1: he just had with Jayden Daniels that's going to air
- 0:50Speaker 1: on the Fox pregame shows this weekend, and we go
- 0:53Speaker 1: down memory lane. Michael Vick in Atlanta early two thousands
- 0:59Speaker 1: outcast is on the scene, Ludacris is on the scene.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Two Chains is just.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Coming out, and where Michael Vick fit in to the
- 1:05Speaker 1: cultural landscape there in Atlanta during that time and is
- 1:09Speaker 1: the introspective And he's interesting in the response and that
- 1:12Speaker 1: he felt such a burden and such a responsibility that.
- 1:15Speaker 2: You know, there was pressure. It wasn't like he could
- 1:17Speaker 2: enjoy it.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It was pressure that with all that was happening in
- 1:20Speaker 1: Atlanta as such a cultural touch point, he knew it
- 1:23Speaker 1: was on him to kind of make sure that he
- 1:25Speaker 1: brought his best and he brought the Falcons to some glory,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and they did. They had some very good years during
- 1:30Speaker 1: those times. Vick's amazing. I would really urge you to
- 1:32Speaker 1: listen to that. This week on Good Morning Football. I
- 1:35Speaker 1: was in La on Monday and Tuesday, and on Tuesday
- 1:37Speaker 1: with a very special guest, the Commissioner of the NFL,
- 1:40Speaker 1: mister Roger Goodell. And now the history of Goodell and
- 1:43Speaker 1: Good Morning Football is rich and deep.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We always have him on at least twice a season.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He comes in and it is the NFL's network, so
- 1:52Speaker 1: he can come in and it's his network in a way,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and we come in, but we do not get questions
- 1:57Speaker 1: scripted for us. We are told to ask whatever we
- 1:59Speaker 1: want and to you know, present him any questions that
- 2:03Speaker 1: are currently of mind, but also that might be long
- 2:06Speaker 1: term thinking. And oftentimes these interviews with us make news.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We have that green light to ask him questions. And
- 2:13Speaker 1: we just got wrapped with an episode on Tuesday in
- 2:15Speaker 1: which Goodell sat with us for about fifteen minutes.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I thought it was pretty insightful.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I wanted to bring that interview over to this feed
- 2:21Speaker 1: so our listeners to the pod can listen to the
- 2:23Speaker 1: sit down if you didn't catch it on Good Morning Football.
- 2:26Speaker 2: The interviewers and the voices that you hear are myself.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I'm the one who brings him in and asks the
- 2:30Speaker 2: first question about the resurgence of the DC commanders, and
- 2:34Speaker 2: I didn't know this. Roger grew up in the DC area.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Of course, his.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Father was in government, so he grew up in DC,
- 2:41Speaker 1: so he has kind of a cool introspective response on that.
- 2:44Speaker 1: The other voice you'll hear is Jamie Erdall, who's one
- 2:48Speaker 1: of the hosts of Good Morning Football, Michael Robinson, who
- 2:51Speaker 1: is a former player and also an NFL Network colleague,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and Kyle Brandt, who was beaming in from New York
- 2:57Speaker 1: City asking some pretty good questions to Goodell as well. So,
- 2:59Speaker 1: with no further ado, here's a little bonus episode. Here's
- 3:03Speaker 1: Roger Goodell on Good Morning Football on Tuesday.
- 3:06Speaker 3: We're excited here in our LA studios and we have
- 3:08Speaker 3: a very special guest, a gentleman, the Commissioner of the
- 3:11Speaker 3: National Football League, mister Roger gudell.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Y, welcome, thank you, grilled to be here.
- 3:19Speaker 2: What brings you to Los Angeles?
- 3:21Speaker 4: You guys right, yeah this I was out in San
- 3:25Speaker 4: Francisco on Sunday, had some meetings Superior yesterday and stayed
- 3:28Speaker 4: to be with you guys.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Our show is now coast to coast, so we figured
- 3:32Speaker 3: we hit a couple of different markets here and hit
- 3:34Speaker 3: you with some questions.
- 3:35Speaker 2: If you don't mind us just popping you. Is this
- 3:37Speaker 2: a test?
- 3:38Speaker 5: This is a test.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I would like to start in the Nation's Capital. I
- 3:42Speaker 3: think the best story one month into the season is
- 3:44Speaker 3: this Washington Commander's franchise and this young Rokie quarterback and
- 3:47Speaker 3: what he's brought.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You have been with the league.
- 3:50Speaker 3: For many years, you were a historian of the game.
- 3:52Speaker 3: To see that market so enthused right now and energized
- 3:56Speaker 3: with what Jaden and also the new coaching staff an
- 3:58Speaker 3: ownership group has brought. What's it like having the Commanders
- 4:02Speaker 3: being on top of the NFC East and really having
- 4:04Speaker 3: the Nation's Capital is one of the top teams.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Well, like the way you say historian, that means I've
- 4:09Speaker 4: been here a long time, so I've seen this history
- 4:12Speaker 4: but the reality is, you know, I also grew up
- 4:14Speaker 4: in Washington and I know what that franchise means to
- 4:17Speaker 4: that community. It really does, and I think to see
- 4:20Speaker 4: that excitement start coming back. You can see they're on
- 4:24Speaker 4: the right path. Got a great young quarterback, DQ is
- 4:28Speaker 4: doing great. I just think that team is on the
- 4:31Speaker 4: rise and it's going to be fun for the league
- 4:33Speaker 4: because you know, the nation's capital, that's where it's at,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and I think it'll be fun for the league to
- 4:40Speaker 4: have them back.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 4:41Speaker 6: You probably couldn't be more thrilled with how the International
- 4:43Speaker 6: Series started in Brazil, but also what we have coming
- 4:47Speaker 6: into this weekend an undefeated Vikings team and Aaron Rodgers
- 4:51Speaker 6: led Jets team, but then the irony that Sam Darnold
- 4:54Speaker 6: is quarterbacking the Vikings. Do you follow stories like this
- 4:58Speaker 6: and when guys just kind of really hit a lull
- 5:00Speaker 6: but then the resurgence within the league.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yeah, to me, it's part of what makes our game
- 5:06Speaker 4: so much fun is to see kids that you know,
- 5:09Speaker 4: maybe don't have a good start at one team and
- 5:11Speaker 4: they move off. I think he's now on his FOURT team,
- 5:13Speaker 4: I believe, and you know, to see him get in
- 5:16Speaker 4: the right system. And I really give a lot of
- 5:19Speaker 4: credit to Kevin. And you know, the GM crazy is
- 5:24Speaker 4: just you know, to get the right kind of guy
- 5:27Speaker 4: to fit their system. He's getting the most out of them.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Got great teammates. It's always great to throw to JJ,
- 5:32Speaker 4: but you know you've got to give him credit to
- 5:35Speaker 4: you know, his determination to get back in there and
- 5:38Speaker 4: say I can do this. And when you see someone
- 5:41Speaker 4: try to overcome that and try to build on the
- 5:44Speaker 4: failures he may have had, that's just something you take
- 5:48Speaker 4: your hat off to.
- 5:50Speaker 7: You got ratings going crazy, man, you know, you got streaming,
- 5:54Speaker 7: you got you know, all the different platforms. Just what
- 5:57Speaker 7: excites you about the National Football League right now? Just
- 6:01Speaker 7: in general? Man, with all the ever changing media platforms.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Well, I think all that is another opportunity for us.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I mean, I think we have the greatest content in
- 6:10Speaker 4: the world. I mean, everybody wants to see every aspect
- 6:14Speaker 4: of the NFL. They want to see our players. I
- 6:17Speaker 4: want to see our coaches. I want to see the teams.
- 6:19Speaker 4: They want to see Kyle. I see you in the
- 6:21Speaker 4: background there, Caud they do.
- 6:23Speaker 6: He's like Oz back there, honestly, Like sometimes you see
- 6:26Speaker 6: his body language.
- 6:27Speaker 7: I'm like Oh God, what's.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Wrong, Commissioner.
- 6:35Speaker 8: Come over to this, this large Orrellian monitor that we
- 6:37Speaker 8: have there in that beautiful set the Roger.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I'm in New York City.
- 6:41Speaker 8: I'm in our Good Morning Football is Lower West Side condo,
- 6:44Speaker 8: of course, home of the league headquarters where your office is.
- 6:47Speaker 8: And you know what, we do really well here at
- 6:49Speaker 8: the NFL. We're really good at branding, and I like
- 6:52Speaker 8: that we branded the new kickoff rule the dynamic kickoff,
- 6:56Speaker 8: and it really feels that way. We're a month into it.
- 6:59Speaker 8: What do you think about the early returns of the
- 7:01Speaker 8: dynamic kickoff?
- 7:03Speaker 4: You know, we always said this is going to be
- 7:05Speaker 4: a working progress. I guess if I had to grade it,
- 7:08Speaker 4: I'd say it's an incomplete right now, and only in
- 7:11Speaker 4: this sense. We wanted to bring back more returns, but
- 7:14Speaker 4: we wanted to do it safely. So we have more returns.
- 7:18Speaker 4: I think we had an eighty five percent increase in returns.
- 7:21Speaker 4: That'll give us more data to find out is it working.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Are we seeing the safety level go back to the
- 7:26Speaker 4: same safety levels we see at the line of scrimmage
- 7:29Speaker 4: plays So far that looks pretty good, but it's really
- 7:32Speaker 4: early to tell, and there's really not enough data yet.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I think it's going to come out where we've brought
- 7:38Speaker 4: the safety back into that play, and then I think
- 7:41Speaker 4: we'll have to make a few changes on the kickoff
- 7:44Speaker 4: that will I think lead to a lot more kickoff returns.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I think the.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Back moving it up a little bit.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Maybe I could do the touchback and move it to
- 7:52Speaker 4: thirty five. You know, I think that would be a
- 7:54Speaker 4: game changer right away. Yeah, I think that everything. I've
- 7:57Speaker 4: talked to the coaches and as you know, our special
- 7:59Speaker 4: teams coaches are looking at this. I've talked to some
- 8:01Speaker 4: of them and I think there will be a change,
- 8:05Speaker 4: whether we make it immediate after the season. We're going
- 8:08Speaker 4: to have a competition committee in the next week.
- 8:10Speaker 3: So Jamie's headed to London this afternoon. You'll probably be
- 8:13Speaker 3: there at some point, I imagine for.
- 8:15Speaker 2: The next week, next following week.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Yep.
- 8:18Speaker 3: What other big league initiative is the flag football and
- 8:20Speaker 3: something that we have seen explode and you know, we've
- 8:23Speaker 3: all got kids and they're all playing flag football. The
- 8:26Speaker 3: sky is the limit, obviously, How does the NFL play
- 8:29Speaker 3: a role in kind of curating and guiding this thing
- 8:31Speaker 3: to this amazing youth sport and how it can lead
- 8:34Speaker 3: to more fans and of course more players at the
- 8:37Speaker 3: next level.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Well, our international team and all our clubs have really
- 8:41Speaker 4: done a great job, you know they Troy Vincent back
- 8:45Speaker 4: in New York and Peter O'Reilly runs international and all
- 8:48Speaker 4: our events. The idea here is to give kids an
- 8:52Speaker 4: opportunity to play. And I'm what I'm most excited about
- 8:54Speaker 4: is young women playing the game. I see it in
- 8:57Speaker 4: was with Steve Young last year and he brought his
- 9:01Speaker 4: entire team up, thirty young women coach the flag football too,
- 9:05Speaker 4: and two of his daughters are on the team. This
- 9:07Speaker 4: is awesome And it was just to see their confidence
- 9:10Speaker 4: and the empowerment that gave them to say we're playing
- 9:13Speaker 4: and they were wonderful young women and it was just
- 9:16Speaker 4: great to see so and Steve, as a coach, said,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I fell back in love with the game by coaching
- 9:22Speaker 4: these young women. So I think that's the thing we're
- 9:25Speaker 4: trying to share with people, the joy of playing this game,
- 9:28Speaker 4: all the values of playing this game. You know, what
- 9:31Speaker 4: it takes to be on a team that you know
- 9:34Speaker 4: is trying to accomplish something bigger than themselves. I think
- 9:37Speaker 4: young women and young boys are learning those lessons, and
- 9:40Speaker 4: I think that's great and it's just another funnel to
- 9:42Speaker 4: get them into the game, either as tackle players at
- 9:45Speaker 4: some point in time or to move on and take
- 9:49Speaker 4: another role.
- 9:50Speaker 3: We've had fun with the Olympics in twenty twenty eight
- 9:52Speaker 3: in Los Angeles, and I don't know if the NFL
- 9:54Speaker 3: players are involved, and I don't think we're there yet,
- 9:56Speaker 3: but the fact that it's an Olympics sport is a
- 9:59Speaker 3: huge milestone as well.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It's a huge milestone, and I think doing that on
- 10:03Speaker 4: an international basis, Listen, that's the pin of sports on
- 10:07Speaker 4: an international basis. So we're really looking forward to that,
- 10:11Speaker 4: whether players are in it from the NFL level or
- 10:13Speaker 4: whether we're going to have great athletes out there, and
- 10:16Speaker 4: it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 10:17Speaker 6: I was going to ask about something that is very
- 10:20Speaker 6: jarring for us to see sometimes during the week, which
- 10:23Speaker 6: is the turn of Bill Belichick's personality in the media.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Is very concerning to me.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I don't understand it.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Were you prepared for this version of Bill Belichick? Knowing
- 10:33Speaker 6: him for I just made you very nervous with saying
- 10:35Speaker 6: the word.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Jar What I wanted you know, if you're if you
- 10:41Speaker 4: ever sit around with Bill and you talk football. That's
- 10:43Speaker 4: where he is, I'm sure in front of the camera,
- 10:47Speaker 4: and we all know it's a little bit different. But
- 10:49Speaker 4: when you get him back and you talk to him
- 10:50Speaker 4: about the game of football, it really you see the
- 10:54Speaker 4: joy he has in this game and the passion and
- 10:56Speaker 4: the historical perspective to it. He's he's a he's just
- 10:59Speaker 4: such a student of the game. And you know, since
- 11:02Speaker 4: I lost John Madden, who has played an incredible role
- 11:05Speaker 4: to be brought that perspective. He saw everything on the field,
- 11:09Speaker 4: and he looked at tape and he was he was
- 11:11Speaker 4: Bills in a lot of ways filled that role. He's
- 11:14Speaker 4: been someone that if you can call and you can
- 11:16Speaker 4: have you consult when he studied, well, he's down in
- 11:19Speaker 4: an NFL film all day, so I figured I'd get
- 11:22Speaker 4: a free call. But he really, he really has a
- 11:26Speaker 4: good feel for the game and it's something that can
- 11:29Speaker 4: help us.
- 11:29Speaker 6: It's been said that Belichick kept a mattress in his
- 11:32Speaker 6: office in New England. Does he have one at films?
- 11:35Speaker 4: You know, I haven't checked that one because it will
- 11:37Speaker 4: have to charge him a little different. So if he's stayed.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Overnight, that's good point Roger.
- 11:44Speaker 9: We remember when the first London game was played and
- 11:47Speaker 9: it felt really like history. It was really really special,
- 11:50Speaker 9: and now it's this is what we do. There's multiple countries,
- 11:53Speaker 9: multiple continents. Can you give us a taste of the
- 11:56Speaker 9: future of where this might go? I know that Peter
- 11:59Speaker 9: is part of an investment group that's trying to build
- 12:01Speaker 9: a stadium in Bora Bora, But short of that working,
- 12:04Speaker 9: is there.
- 12:04Speaker 8: Anywhere we might land as a league?
- 12:05Speaker 2: Like, what's the sure of this?
- 12:08Speaker 4: We're not going to take Peter's road map to the
- 12:10Speaker 4: next future marching market. They love football there, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 4: I do, uh, And so my perspective goes back to
- 12:20Speaker 4: the nineties and being in both you know, when we
- 12:22Speaker 4: went to Japan and we went to Berlin and what
- 12:25Speaker 4: you saw was fans that really didn't understand the game.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Now you go over to London and it's you know,
- 12:31Speaker 4: you have a hard time telling you whether you're in
- 12:32Speaker 4: London or whether you're in the Middle Lands or you know,
- 12:35Speaker 4: it's just the fans there are sophisticated. They understand the game,
- 12:38Speaker 4: they appreciate the game, And for me, that's what I
- 12:42Speaker 4: think gives us so much confidence that our game can
- 12:46Speaker 4: be a global game, and when we were down in
- 12:48Speaker 4: Brazil a few weeks ago, it was just it was
- 12:51Speaker 4: the same thing, you know, just a lot of enthusiasm,
- 12:54Speaker 4: excitement over the game, and I believe great potential. So
- 12:59Speaker 4: we'll be back there. I'm sure we're going to continue
- 13:02Speaker 4: to grow. I think we'll end up going to sixteen
- 13:04Speaker 4: games at some point in time, and the owners have
- 13:07Speaker 4: already authorized us to go to eight. But I'm confident,
- 13:10Speaker 4: particularly if we can do the restructuring of the season,
- 13:13Speaker 4: that we would get to sixteen at that point.
- 13:16Speaker 6: I have to imagine you. I've been thinking about that
- 13:18Speaker 6: having a full slate in Europe. Do you have an
- 13:21Speaker 6: advance necessarily Europe?
- 13:22Speaker 4: We got a rest big in the world.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Yes, internationally, sixteen games internationally.
- 13:26Speaker 2: My mistake.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Do you have people that do this, like scouting years
- 13:30Speaker 6: in advance of just the logistics to answer questions that
- 13:34Speaker 6: teams might have. If you're the forty nine ers and
- 13:36Speaker 6: you're being asked to do X, Y and Z, you
- 13:38Speaker 6: want to probably have all of the solutions before teams
- 13:41Speaker 6: come to you with concern.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you're absolutely right, James, and the answer is yes.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I mean, we're already looking at several markets. We don't
- 13:48Speaker 4: have Peter's list a bit, but we do have a
- 13:50Speaker 4: lot of markets that are interested in the game. But
- 13:55Speaker 4: we have to go do the work because one of
- 13:56Speaker 4: the things that we do, particularly with Brazil, it was
- 13:59Speaker 4: a key factor for us. You want the teams to
- 14:02Speaker 4: feel like it was not disruptive to the season that
- 14:05Speaker 4: it you know, they went that they loved the trip.
- 14:08Speaker 4: I went to Jordan Malatta because that, to me, that
- 14:10Speaker 4: was the best one. Right, How was the trip? How
- 14:13Speaker 4: is a plane? You know, everything was great and you know,
- 14:16Speaker 4: the coaches were good, the players were great. Everybody felt
- 14:20Speaker 4: like this was a great trip. It was not disruptive
- 14:23Speaker 4: that they were able to prepare properly when they got back.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I went back and checked afterwards. Everyone recovered really well.
- 14:30Speaker 4: So and that's an eleven hour trip for these guys.
- 14:33Speaker 4: So when you see that we learned something from every
- 14:37Speaker 4: one of the games and say, okay, what can we
- 14:39Speaker 4: do next ultimately and how do we continue to expand this?
- 14:43Speaker 4: But I do think we can do this. I think
- 14:46Speaker 4: the scheduling, you know, we may have to make changes
- 14:49Speaker 4: to that in some ways, probably roster sizes, do some
- 14:52Speaker 4: other things, but I do think it's something we'll do more.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Real quick super Bowls in New Orleans.
- 14:58Speaker 3: We've got a few months to get there. What's one
- 15:00Speaker 3: thing you're looking to see between now and that day
- 15:04Speaker 3: where we get out?
- 15:07Speaker 4: Well, you know, there's so much. I keep reminding myself.
- 15:10Speaker 4: We're just centering eight week five here at this point,
- 15:13Speaker 4: and there's so much and there's so many changes between
- 15:16Speaker 4: now and then, but it also goes really fast. And
- 15:20Speaker 4: you know, no one loves football more than I do,
- 15:21Speaker 4: so I love watching everything I can. I'm looking forward
- 15:25Speaker 4: to go over to the international Games. I'm really looking
- 15:27Speaker 4: forward to that run up to the playoffs. Super Bowl
- 15:31Speaker 4: time is just a blasphemy. So I'm I must.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Earliest New Orleans Super Bowl memory? What do you have?
- 15:36Speaker 3: What sticks out?
- 15:37Speaker 2: Madden? I'll tell you what it is.
- 15:38Speaker 3: It earlier than that.
- 15:39Speaker 4: It was nineteen eighty six. I was Pete Roselle's driver.
- 15:43Speaker 4: This is incredible. So, okay, it was the best thing
- 15:46Speaker 4: of the Bears Patriots Bears Patriots. Wasn't a great game, no,
- 15:51Speaker 4: but but I was up in the booth with Pete
- 15:53Speaker 4: and we had an officiating here. Oh, it was not
- 15:57Speaker 4: a good day for Pete. He was upset, but the
- 16:00Speaker 4: reality is I spent the entire week with Pete basically
- 16:03Speaker 4: living in his in his room. I was his sort
- 16:05Speaker 4: of go to to every thing, and it was it
- 16:09Speaker 4: was the experience of a lifetime to me. I never
- 16:11Speaker 4: thought that I would even be that close to much
- 16:13Speaker 4: less driving.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Them around town. And now you're the commissioner.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Now I'm commit. He had a lot to do with that,
- 16:18Speaker 4: I'm sure. And it wasn't for my driving skills.
- 16:20Speaker 2: You know, it's tough streets to talk.
- 16:22Speaker 4: I mean, also easy to try to go down twice
- 16:25Speaker 4: just to figure out my way around.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I would have mentioned wh This was fantastic. Thank you
- 16:31Speaker 3: so much for joining us. Have an amazing rest of
- 16:33Speaker 3: the season. Hopefully we'll talk to you again and enjoy
- 16:35Speaker 3: you're up when you go over there as well.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Look forward to it. Thank you, guys, thanks for all
- 16:39Speaker 4: you do. We're glad to have you back.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 16:41Speaker 4: It was too long while you were going.
- 16:43Speaker 6: It was when I were fresh as a daisy. And
- 16:46Speaker 6: International Games coming up this month in November. You're gonna
- 16:49Speaker 6: drink a beer again in Germany.
- 16:50Speaker 2: If you're there, let's go that.
- 16:53Speaker 5: The t's and TV.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Talk bring on Aaron Wang Kaufman, our producer here on
- 16:57Speaker 1: the podcast, who does not work on Good Morning Football.
- 17:00Speaker 1: So Aaron at the end there we start rattling off
- 17:03Speaker 1: some questions and he has a really response to me
- 17:08Speaker 1: asking about Belichick, the media mogul, and it hit me
- 17:14Speaker 1: in an emotional way that he's like he always had
- 17:16Speaker 1: John Madden as this north star, this rabbi if you will,
- 17:20Speaker 1: this this voice that he could talk to, and when
- 17:22Speaker 1: Madden passed that they might have been avoid there. It's
- 17:25Speaker 1: pretty neat that he says he's talking to Belichick pretty often,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and the closest thing to Madden that he's had is
- 17:30Speaker 1: now this new relationship with Belichick, which he's obviously had
- 17:32Speaker 1: in a different capacity. But to have Belichick serve in
- 17:37Speaker 1: that Madden role for Commissioner Goodell, I just thought it
- 17:39Speaker 1: was cool. I thought Roger was great. He heads over
- 17:42Speaker 1: to London next week. He'll be there for the football
- 17:45Speaker 1: game that's going on in London next week. But Jamie
- 17:48Speaker 1: rd All, my co host, is flying over now, she'll
- 17:50Speaker 1: be there. But Aaron Roger Goodell anytime you get him on,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you know, without the certain tie on which as he
- 17:57Speaker 1: came in with just an unbuttoned shirt and just loose
- 17:59Speaker 1: and comfortable. I always find him to be a very
- 18:02Speaker 1: interesting conversationalist.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But also what I love is he is a.
- 18:05Speaker 1: True story end of the game, Like this guy goes
- 18:08Speaker 1: deep and his stories about Pete Roselle in nineteen eighty six,
- 18:11Speaker 1: like that's the stuff I'm here for.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I have a tangential Goodell story when I was at
- 18:17Speaker 5: the Fanatics Festival earlier this summer. Goodell was there at
- 18:21Speaker 5: the NFL like experience or whatever it is. I think
- 18:25Speaker 5: he did a speech or something at something, but then
- 18:27Speaker 5: he was just standing there and a bunch of kids
- 18:29Speaker 5: were like going to get his autograph, and he stood
- 18:31Speaker 5: there and signed autographs with kids the whole time. And
- 18:35Speaker 5: you know, it was like a long time that he
- 18:38Speaker 5: was just sitting there with this crowd of kids coming
- 18:41Speaker 5: up to talk to him and get autographs with him,
- 18:43Speaker 5: and he was very into it. I've never personally talked
- 18:46Speaker 5: to him or met him. You know, I'm a little
- 18:48Speaker 5: too old, I think for the little crowd to get
- 18:51Speaker 5: the yeah, to get the autograph. But he was great
- 18:53Speaker 5: with the kids and.
- 18:54Speaker 2: You know everyone.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So Pete Roselle was his mentor and this guy that
- 18:59Speaker 1: he you know, obviously came in, and then it was
- 19:01Speaker 1: Paul tag Leboo, and it's wild Goodell is He's been
- 19:05Speaker 1: the commission longer than all those guys, so it's pretty
- 19:08Speaker 1: crazy that I still remember when he was ushered in.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So Roger Goodell, great interview. Appreciate you guys listening. This
- 19:15Speaker 1: is a bonus episode. Go find the Michael Vick episode.
- 19:18Speaker 1: We'd like to give you.
- 19:18Speaker 2: As much content as possible.
