- 0:24Now let's open our Bibles and study God's Word.
- 0:31Amen. So let's start.
- 0:33Off in Second Chronicles chapter 16.
- 0:37I'm going to read a section here, and I want you to just
- 0:42follow along. Chapter 16 of Second Chronicles,
- 0:46verses 7 through 10. What's going on here?
- 0:51We're right in the middle. Of an of a.
- 0:53Historical incident here where the king.
- 0:57Of Judah doesn't rely. Upon the Lord and He.
- 1:00Gets rebuked by a prophet, but it reveals of the heart of the
- 1:05Lord so. Follow along with me chapter 16
- 1:08of the Second Chronicles, verse 7.
- 1:12At that time. Hanani.
- 1:14The seer came to ASA. King of Judah, and said to him
- 1:19because. You have relied.
- 1:21On the king of Syria and have not relied on the Lord your God
- 1:26therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your
- 1:30hand were The Ethiopians and the Lubin not a huge army with very
- 1:37many Chariots and horsemen yet because you relied on the.
- 1:41Lord, he delivered. Them into your hand and this is
- 1:46the main. Verse for the eyes of the.
- 1:48Lord, run to and. Fro throughout the whole earth.
- 1:53To show himself strong on behalf.
- 1:55Of those whose heart is. Loyal to him in this you have
- 2:00done foolishly, Therefore from now on.
- 2:03You shall have wars. Then ASA was angry with the seer
- 2:07and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him because of
- 2:11this and ASA. Oppressed some of the.
- 2:14People at that time. So in this situation here the
- 2:19king of Judah, whose name was ASA.
- 2:23He had a previous battle with the.
- 2:25Ethiopians and you look at it there in chapter 14 of second
- 2:29Chronicles and it was it's described as a million man army.
- 2:34I mean way, way outnumbered and because King ASA relied upon the
- 2:39Lord, God stepped in and helped them and that was a testimony.
- 2:47And you know when God works in our.
- 2:49Life in the past. He wants to show you and
- 2:53encourage you that you can trust him for what's next.
- 2:57Because sometimes we. Go yeah, he worked that way but
- 3:00but I sort. Of helped out and now I'm in
- 3:01this situation. I doubt if he's and we.
- 3:04We like to talk ourselves out of it.
- 3:06Now I'm not sure what was going on with King ASA here.
- 3:10But all of a. Sudden he started looking at the
- 3:13strength of other nations armies to help him instead of the Lord
- 3:18he. He didn't fall back on that
- 3:19testimony. The faithfulness of God in the
- 3:23past six times can be counted on for the 7th time.
- 3:29And you might be in the middle of 1/7 time right now.
- 3:32Yeah, He's worked in your life and it's.
- 3:34And you know, you look back and you just see God has been so
- 3:38strong, so why can't you trust him right now?
- 3:41And you're looking at all kinds of other.
- 3:43Ways to work it? Out instead of just taking and
- 3:48dropping everything, laying it out on the table saying OK.
- 3:53I give up, so would you work? Would you just give me the next
- 3:58most important thing, Lord? I'm going to trust you and then
- 4:03your mind goes. Well, yeah, but what if, what
- 4:06if, What if? Stop, stop, stop, Lord.
- 4:08It's yours. Give me your piece right now.
- 4:12Let's see what happens. Well, King ASA didn't do that.
- 4:16And the prophet in verse 9. Said the eyes of the.
- 4:21Lord, run to and. Fro throughout the whole earth.
- 4:25To show himself strong. On behalf of those whose heart
- 4:30is loyal. To him, this is a Kingdom
- 4:34principle and should be a memory.
- 4:36Verse that you. Purpose to memorize starting
- 4:41right now. For the rest of your life.
- 4:44It's important here. But, but let's talk.
- 4:47About this a minute here. Because it it.
- 4:51Implies some things from going wait a minute, the eyes.
- 4:54Of the Lord. What does the Lord have eyes?
- 4:56I thought he was spirit. Well, OK, let's think about.
- 4:58This Let's break this down when the scriptures speak of the Lord
- 5:02having. Eyes or ears, or feet for that
- 5:06matter, The Holy Spirit. Was using something referred to
- 5:10as an anthropomorphism and what that means?
- 5:14Is it's a way of? Communicating some aspect of the
- 5:18Lord's nature and attributes using human terminology because.
- 5:24We have really a. Limited frame I mean our our
- 5:28reason and our logic and our linear way of seeing things is
- 5:34super limited compared to the all knowing.
- 5:37God that we serve. And so.
- 5:39The Holy Spirit uses pictures. To help communicate concepts.
- 5:45And that's the idea. Here where it says the eyes of
- 5:47the Lord. And so what's that mean The.
- 5:50Eyes of the Lord. It just it just means.
- 5:53That he he sees all. Things, and in that seeing he
- 5:59knows all things with complete and perfect knowledge.
- 6:04Things seen and things unseen. The eyes of the Lord.
- 6:11He's a God of knowledge, all knowledge, omniscient.
- 6:16This is the God that we serve that has humbled Himself.
- 6:23And tabernacled in a body of. Flesh Jesus is called the.
- 6:28Fullness of the Godhead, bodily and even as.
- 6:32He prays to the Father. We see that special fellowship.
- 6:36Between the Father and the Son, while the Son is was here on the
- 6:40earth as recorded in the Gospels.
- 6:43Even right now as we're sitting here, I'm standing here, you're
- 6:47watching online, sitting on your couch, drinking your coffee or
- 6:51whatever you're doing. That's great.
- 6:54I'm glad you're doing that. But the Lord knows everything
- 7:01about. Us.
- 7:04And that could be. Unsettling if you're trying to
- 7:06hide something you know in Hebrews.
- 7:10Chapter 4 Verses. 12 and 13 it. Says for the word of.
- 7:14God is living and powerful and sharper than any 2 edged sword,
- 7:20piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints
- 7:24and Morrow, and as a discerner. Of the.
- 7:27Thoughts and the intents of the heart.
- 7:31And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things
- 7:37are naked and open to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
- 7:43And I can rest in that. Because when thoughts come
- 7:51across my mind, thoughts that you know, I don't.
- 7:55Want those thoughts there? The Lord understands.
- 7:58He knows the difference between my thoughts and the motives and
- 8:02the intents of my heart. I can trust Him.
- 8:06He understands. He wants me in.
- 8:11Grace to be free. In him because he does
- 8:17understand. A creature.
- 8:19Like me, I don't even understand me and my wife doesn't
- 8:25understand me, but the Lord understands me and he doesn't
- 8:32receive rumors from other people about me.
- 8:36That's pretty cool because some people can get pretty upset with
- 8:40you and they're going, oh, I'm going to pray for you.
- 8:43OK, Well you can tell that it's not going to be a blessing, but
- 8:48so you go. I'm trusting in a God who?
- 8:52Is a God of truth. And he knows all things and he
- 8:55doesn't receive rumors about me, although everything he knows
- 8:59about me. Is serious, but he doesn't deal
- 9:04with. Everything at once does he?
- 9:06He deals with one thing at a time.
- 9:11The eyes of the Lord. Run to and fro.
- 9:13How do eyes run? OK, another concept.
- 9:17God running. The eyes of the Lord.
- 9:20Running to and. Fro throughout the whole earth.
- 9:25Well, the the whole concept of running carries the meaning of
- 9:28urgency and speed and focus. There's an intensity, there's.
- 9:34There's a. Purpose.
- 9:36There's an urgency. The eyes of the Lord run to and.
- 9:41Fro throughout the whole earth. And so the extent is.
- 9:45God is looking for something, looking for someone.
- 9:51God is wanting to do something, and he's looking for a vessel
- 9:56through whom to do it. And it's not like he's
- 10:00meandering and stumbling over rocks or something.
- 10:03Turn turning over you and oh, yeah, there is a worm.
- 10:06Yeah. I'll pick that up.
- 10:08No, the Lord is looking through the whole earth, the many
- 10:13billions of people right now He's looking.
- 10:16To do a work. What's he want to do?
- 10:20He wants to show himself strong on behalf of of anyone who will
- 10:25put their loyalty and trust in him.
- 10:28That's the heart of our. God and so sometimes we we're
- 10:33we're looking for God. God, I want you just.
- 10:35To bless what I do. And what he's looking for is.
- 10:39Will you? Be loyal to me.
- 10:42Will you? Will you?
- 10:43Will your heart? Be aligned with my heart.
- 10:48Will we be? Like minded you might say, as we
- 10:50were praying earlier. That's what God is.
- 10:53Looking for He's waiting to do great, exceedingly, abundantly,
- 11:00above all that we can ask or think.
- 11:02But He wants our heart. First, it all starts with that
- 11:09for the eyes. Of the Lord run to and.
- 11:11Fro throughout the whole earth. To show himself strong in.
- 11:15Behalf of him whose heart is loyal to.
- 11:19Him, he knows we need his strength and he's offering that
- 11:28strength to have a heart loyal to him means.
- 11:33That the depth of our soul is. Set on receiving His ways,
- 11:38obeying His Word, lining up with His heart, and living out His
- 11:43commands. And so I just want to leave you
- 11:46with this line before we go on to our next section.
- 11:50The work of God always begins with the desire of God to
- 11:55accomplish. The purpose of God to the glory
- 11:59of God. And you can write that down.
- 12:05The work of God always begins with the desire.
- 12:09Of God. Not the desire of man.
- 12:11The desire of God. To accomplish the purpose of.
- 12:15God to the glory of God. So he's looking for someone.
- 12:23Well, let's go on to Part 2 and turn in your.
- 12:26Bible there. To First Samuel, chapter 13.
- 12:36Now in this setting, here we have King Saul of Israel.
- 12:41He's been king for a number. Of years but.
- 12:44He just seems to keep disobeying the.
- 12:47Lord, because of pressure. From the outside, he wants to be
- 12:52a man's man. He wants.
- 12:54To be the leader, he wants to be the.
- 12:56King, and he looks the. Part but his heart.
- 12:59Is is not lined up? With the Lord it's.
- 13:02Lined up with his own pride and every single time he he makes
- 13:10decisions to go against the command of the Lord and it like
- 13:14stacks up against him to the point.
- 13:18Where God is ready to say I've got to let you go.
- 13:22From this position. And so that's.
- 13:25Where we are here in First Samuel, let's tell you.
- 13:27Let's start in verse 11 to 14, First Samuel 13, verses 11
- 13:34through 14. In this situation, King.
- 13:37Saul gets all panicky because. Samuel delays coming and the
- 13:43soldiers are fleeing. Because they're scared of the.
- 13:46Philistines. So here's what we read.
- 13:49Finally, Sam Samuel shows up and finds that.
- 13:52Saul had. Forced a burnt offering.
- 13:55He had no right to do that. That was the job of a priest.
- 14:00Verse 11. And Samuel said, What have you
- 14:03done? And Saul said, Well, when I saw
- 14:08the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come
- 14:12within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered
- 14:16together at Mcnash, then I said, the Philistines will now come
- 14:21down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the
- 14:25Lord. Therefore I felt compelled and
- 14:29offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, You
- 14:34have done foolishly. You have not kept the
- 14:39commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you for
- 14:44now. The Lord would have established.
- 14:46Your Kingdom over Israel forever, but now your Kingdom
- 14:52shall not continue. The Lord has sought for himself.
- 14:56A man after his own heart. And the Lord has.
- 15:00Commanded him to be commander. Over his people because you.
- 15:05Have not kept what the Lord commanded you.
- 15:12What a sad situation, Saul. Had so much potential.
- 15:18He was head and shoulders. Higher than anybody else in.
- 15:21Israel, he was like the. Hero that they wanted the
- 15:24Terminator and and yet he didn't have.
- 15:28The right heart for the Lord. And out of impatience and fear,
- 15:35he forced a burnt offering to try to gain God.
- 15:39'S favor for the battle. That was upon him doing some
- 15:43religious act, almost as a superstition.
- 15:47To try to get God to be obligated to help.
- 15:50And he missed the plot. He just missed it.
- 15:56And notice here when King Saul answered Samuel, he projected
- 16:02the blame and that was it seems to be his way when he goes.
- 16:07Into disobedience, he projects the.
- 16:09Blame on other people he projected the blame on.
- 16:14The soldiers that were. Abandoning.
- 16:16And gosh, if they hadn't left, then I wouldn't have been in
- 16:18this situation. And then he blamed Samuel for
- 16:22being late. And then he blamed the
- 16:25Philistines for putting pressure on him.
- 16:28It's like blame game. And by the way, we can do that
- 16:34too, to cover our own disobedience.
- 16:39To the Lord's Word. And sometimes we can so
- 16:44rationalize. Why we choose to do?
- 16:47Certain things and we cover it and we go, well, do you know
- 16:51this is I needed to do this at this time because if I didn't do
- 16:54it, then the sail would end. And you know what?
- 16:57What are you? Doing buying, you know, what are
- 17:01you doing and buying the boat. I don't understand.
- 17:04BOAT. Break out another thousand you.
- 17:06Realize what it costs. You know, to maintain a boat you
- 17:11don't even have a trailer. You, you, you have a little.
- 17:13Geo Metro You. Can't pull this with that.
- 17:16I mean, I mean think. About it.
- 17:18Oh. Yeah, but it was on sale.
- 17:21Fear can make us. Or drive.
- 17:25Us into decisions that we. Later regret.
- 17:29And then we blame others. Well, you shouldn't.
- 17:32It's none of your business. And and it's, it's all the
- 17:34blame. And the Lord wants to clean our
- 17:38life from that. Because what's the opposite of
- 17:42that? You humble yourself and say I
- 17:46sinned. No, it's not other.
- 17:51People's fault. Yeah, but if my wife hadn't have
- 17:56done this, No, stop it. It's not your wife.
- 18:01It's what's going on in your heart.
- 18:05You know you can have a. A glass of water with.
- 18:07Dirt on the bottom and you can leave it there for a long time
- 18:10and it looks. Pretty clear until you.
- 18:12Bump the. Glass just because your wife.
- 18:14Bumped you and it. Kicked up all this dirt.
- 18:17It's not her fault. You're the one that has a dirt
- 18:21so that makes sense. I've been married. 55 years I.
- 18:24I understand this. So having a heart for God.
- 18:34King Saul didn't have that, and he lost the privilege of being
- 18:39king. Because it says the Lord has
- 18:44sought for himself. A man after his own heart.
- 18:48Do you know when you're asking God, what's your will for my
- 18:52life? Here's His.
- 18:54Will for your for your life be a.
- 18:57Person after God's heart. Instead of just.
- 19:01Asking God to bless your plans. Bless your house, bless your
- 19:06life, bless this, bless that. Bring it back and say, God, I
- 19:13want to be a person that's. After your heart, whatever that.
- 19:19Means when you get married and you're standing at.
- 19:24The altar, hopefully you have each other's heart.
- 19:32Hopefully. People get married for lots of
- 19:36reasons. But with the.
- 19:40Lord, he wants. You to have his heart.
- 19:44And like our our prayer time here being like minded, like
- 19:48sold. With the Lord, so how?
- 19:50Do we know what? The Lord's heart is like, well,
- 19:53God. Revealed his heart to Moses and
- 19:55Mount Sinai in Exodus in Yeah, Exodus 34.
- 20:00Five the Lord descended. In the cloud, and stood with
- 20:04Moses there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord, and the Lord
- 20:09passed by him and proclaimed. The Lord, the Lord God.
- 20:14Merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abounding in
- 20:20goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving
- 20:27iniquity and transgression and sin.
- 20:31And then the 8th 1 is he's just by no means clearing the guilty,
- 20:37visiting the iniquity of the Father's upon the children and
- 20:40the children's children to the third and 4th generation.
- 20:44So being a man or woman. After God's heart, because
- 20:48that's what. We're talking about here, David,
- 20:49a man after. God's heart.
- 20:52What's that mean? It means.
- 20:54That we are. Saying deep within our soul, I
- 20:58want to be merciful and. Gracious as the Lord is.
- 21:05I want to be long. Suffering as the Lord is.
- 21:09I want to abound in goodness and.
- 21:11Truth as the Lord is. I want the Lord Himself to flow
- 21:16through my life and and. Here's the great news.
- 21:21God has already set that up for you.
- 21:24It's called the fruit of the Holy Spirit with you as a
- 21:28Christian because you. Believed on the Lord Jesus and
- 21:31you're in under the new covenant.
- 21:33God places his. Spirit right within your heart
- 21:36and the Holy. Spirit produces this.
- 21:38Fruit in your life. As you.
- 21:40Yield to him, Lovejoy, peace, long-suffering, kindness,
- 21:48goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control to be a
- 21:54person after. God's heart, because that is his
- 21:57heart. The fruit of the Spirit is the
- 21:59heart. Of God, he knows we can't do it
- 22:05on our own to say, OK, I'm going to be patient today.
- 22:11I'm going to be, I'm purposing to be long-suffering today.
- 22:14Everything's going fine until you get in your car and all the
- 22:19sudden. You're late for work.
- 22:24Every single light you come to is.
- 22:26Red. And people are racing through
- 22:28red lights and secretly you're thinking I'd like to.
- 22:32Race the red. Lights because I'm I'm late.
- 22:35But OK, I'll stop here. And then somebody, the light
- 22:42turns green and the person next to you doesn't go and they're
- 22:47just sitting there. And then you have a choice to
- 22:50make. I do have a horn.
- 22:57Maybe something's wrong and you're late and that's when you
- 23:06I'm talking about. What happened about two?
- 23:08Weeks ago. OK, and then the light turned
- 23:11red. I'm going.
- 23:16Well, then the light turns green and they don't move.
- 23:25So I got out of my car. I mean, don't do this at home,
- 23:28OK? I got out of my car and I went
- 23:31up and I went. Are you OK?
- 23:33And. It was a lady.
- 23:35It looks like it was she. Hadn't been driving very long
- 23:39and she didn't know what to do because she wanted to turn left
- 23:43and there. Was lots of cars.
- 23:45And she just froze in front of me.
- 23:54So how did you handle it, Bob? Well, I backed up and just went
- 23:57off to the other way. Yeah.
- 24:01I need to have God's long-suffering rule my life
- 24:05where all of a sudden my. First thought is.
- 24:08Maybe something's wrong there. Maybe it's not like they're
- 24:12trying to just annoy me because that's usually not the case.
- 24:22Plus, self-control is a good fruit of the Spirit, by the way.
- 24:26It's called the reins on the on the on the horse.
- 24:30You know Bob. Shut up.
- 24:34Just pull it back. King Saul was a man after man's
- 24:41heart, but not a man after. God's heart.
- 24:46And God wants someone that's after.
- 24:50His heart, that's his desire. And here.
- 24:55We see the 1st. Revelation to Samuel that God is
- 25:00looking for someone after his heart and he's ready to let go
- 25:05of King Saul in his position. You know King Saul ends up
- 25:10being. Used as.
- 25:13Someone you don't want to be like.
- 25:17I don't want my life to be an example of what not to do.
- 25:24I don't want my life to be an example of.
- 25:28Failure I have. So many colleagues, friends of
- 25:33mine. That have just sabotaged their
- 25:36life by a little folly. And it has ruined their life,
- 25:41ruined their families, ruined their ministries.
- 25:46I don't want to be used. By the.
- 25:49Lord to be an example of what you shouldn't do and and God
- 25:53used King Saul like that. And here's the thing, there's
- 25:57kind of a Saul in all of us. It's.
- 25:59Called the. Flesh.
- 26:00And I don't want the flesh to rule my life.
- 26:06I want the Holy Spirit to rule my life.
- 26:08I want to be a man. After God's heart, God will
- 26:14resist the proud, but give grace.
- 26:17To the humble and he. Says that because he wants to
- 26:21bless. And sometimes he has to chasten
- 26:24us in our pride. So.
- 26:26That after we humble ourselves, He can help.
- 26:30He can help us and be strong on our behalf.
- 26:32The end goal is to be strong on our.
- 26:34Behalf So here is this. Thing little by little unfolding
- 26:41with Samuel as Samuel is discovering God's up to
- 26:46something. God is looking for someone.
- 26:51Now go. Over a couple of chapters.
- 26:54To chapter 15, First Samuel 15 and look at and we're going to
- 27:02read three different or two different sections in First
- 27:06Samuel 15. And by the way, God gave Saul
- 27:14one more chance, and King Saul blew it.
- 27:19And we come to verse 10 of chapter 15.
- 27:26Now the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying, I.
- 27:29Greatly regret that I have set up.
- 27:31Saul as king, for he has turned back from following me and has
- 27:37not performed my commandments. And it grieves Samuel.
- 27:43And he cried. Out to the.
- 27:44Lord, all night, so when Samuel rose early in the morning to
- 27:50meet. Saul, it was told.
- 27:52Samuel saying Saul went to Carmel and indeed he set up a
- 27:57monument for himself. It's like.
- 28:03He's he's, he doesn't get it. I know that some of you have
- 28:10children. That have walked away.
- 28:11From the Lord and you want to. Protect them because that's.
- 28:17What you were doing your whole life, but now they're in a place
- 28:22where you can't protect them and they're making decisions that
- 28:26are destructive decisions and you try to reason with them and
- 28:31they don't listen because after all, you don't know anything.
- 28:37And that's. So hard is the.
- 28:42Lord in charge of your children or not?
- 28:46Well, if he was in, if he was in, charge it.
- 28:48Should look like. This and that.
- 28:49OK, wait a minute. Really.
- 28:52You're giving God counsel on how it should look?
- 28:58You know, I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer either.
- 29:01And my parents prayed for me, and it took a it took on a very
- 29:05unusual situation to bring me around and to them, I.
- 29:10Looked hopeless, but God's a creator.
- 29:17He knows how your kids think. He knows.
- 29:19How they process he. Knows how to turn their heart
- 29:22around, but you got to put Jesus between you and your kids and
- 29:28let the. Lord, do the work.
- 29:34You know, when I think of all the.
- 29:35Kids downstairs, upstairs. I wonder how many Davids are
- 29:42there. I wonder.
- 29:44I wonder how many kids. And by the way, God called David
- 29:47a man after his heart when he was in his teens.
- 29:51He wasn't some guy in the army. That was just, you know.
- 29:54It was he was out doing sheep. He was a lightweight in the
- 29:58family, but he. Loved God, He worshipped God.
- 30:02Being out there in the middle of nowhere, God saw him.
- 30:08I like that. That's what I'm looking for.
- 30:12And so when you think about the 100.
- 30:14And 85 kids that were here at. Second service and by the way,
- 30:19we need. Helpers just to throw that.
- 30:21In. But you can be a part.
- 30:25Of encouraging a man after God's heart, a woman after God's.
- 30:31Heart because suffer the little. Children to come to me.
- 30:37For such is the. Kingdom of Heaven.
- 30:44Little by little, this is. Playing out and Samuel is
- 30:48revealing. God's heart here.
- 30:50Because it says in verse 24 of chapter 15, Samuel said, Saul
- 30:59said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have transgressed the
- 31:02commandment of the Lord and your.
- 31:04Words because I feared the people.
- 31:07And obeyed their voice. Here we go again, Saul the
- 31:12projector. Now therefore, please pardon my
- 31:16sin, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord but Samuel.
- 31:19Said to Saul. I will not return with you, for
- 31:23you have rejected. The word of the Lord.
- 31:27And the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.
- 31:31In other words, we're talking about the.
- 31:32Position God still loves Saul. But he couldn't have him in that
- 31:38position anymore, and Samuel turned around to.
- 31:42Go away, Saul sees the edge of his.
- 31:44Robe And it tore, and Samuel said to him, The Lord has torn
- 31:48the Kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a
- 31:53neighbor of yours who is better than you.
- 31:56Here's a little. Bit more information where
- 31:59they're revealing here. God is revealing through Samuel
- 32:02that He has found somebody. First of all, the Lord was
- 32:06looking. For somebody.
- 32:07But now he's found somebody. And who he found was a young
- 32:12teenage boy that nobody knew. A neighbor of yours who's better
- 32:20than you and also the strength of Israel will not lie nor
- 32:25relent, for he is not a man. That he should.
- 32:28Relent. And now the next.
- 32:32Step is chapter. 16 verses one to three.
- 32:38Now the Lord said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul,
- 32:42seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel?
- 32:47Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse the
- 32:52Bethlehemite, for I have provided myself a king among his
- 32:58sons. And Samuel said, How can I go if
- 33:01Saul? Hears it, he will kill.
- 33:03Me. So it's little by little.
- 33:08God is showing step by. Step his next desire because
- 33:16he's. Found someone.
- 33:19Who has a heart after? Him and it lands on David now,
- 33:24and this is the first time Samuel understands this and by
- 33:29the way, in our own Christian walk.
- 33:31Do you understand that God? Leads us step by step.
- 33:35He doesn't give you the full revelation of of how he's going
- 33:38to. Work day by day.
- 33:40He's with you today and he promises.
- 33:44To be with you and. He promises not to.
- 33:46Forsake you, He'll give you the grace for today.
- 33:50He won't give you tomorrow's. Grace for today He'll give you
- 33:53today's grace for today. And so I don't know what to do.
- 33:58Lord, how am I? Going to deal with this.
- 34:00OK, settle down sufficient to the day's the.
- 34:02Evil. I'll help you today.
- 34:05We'll get through this. You just stay close.
- 34:07To me, we'll get. Through it, step by step, little
- 34:10by little, little. Things unfold one by another.
- 34:24Notice verse 1 of chapter 16. For I have provided myself a
- 34:29king among his sons. You know, when I read that
- 34:35verse, especially in the King James, I couldn't help but think
- 34:38of. Jesus, here's the Lord.
- 34:42Saying, I have provided myself a king among his sons.
- 34:49Jesus was the son of David. Let Saul mourn for him.
- 34:57Verse one. How long are you going to mourn
- 34:59for Saul seeing I've rejected him?
- 35:03You know when when we see things go bad, mourning over what
- 35:10happened is a right thing. It's important.
- 35:13It's a necessary. Part of life, but there.
- 35:18Comes a time when you. Have to go forward.
- 35:21Even though you're sad, you can't stop everything.
- 35:28You must get up and go. Forward.
- 35:30It doesn't. Mean you're abandoning or being
- 35:32unfaithful, but you go forward in the sadness.
- 35:37To watch the Lord. Work in the next step.
- 35:40And that's what God was calling Samuel to do.
- 35:44Proverbs. Says Hope.
- 35:45Deferred makes the heart. Sick nevertheless.
- 35:49When it when it comes. It's a well of life.
- 35:53And we have those seasons when things die in our life and we
- 35:57don't like that. And our our dream dies, our plan
- 36:00dies, our our retirement. Dies and all the rest of it.
- 36:05And you got to say. Wait a second, backup is the.
- 36:08Lord really in charge, and the answer is absolutely, but he's
- 36:12taken you on a detour, and that's another study we know
- 36:18from. Scripture that this.
- 36:19Young teen called David was a man after.
- 36:22God's heart acts. 1320. 2 Paul the apostle says.
- 36:29And when God had removed Saul, he raised up for them David as
- 36:33king, to whom? Also he gave.
- 36:35Testimony and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man
- 36:40after my own heart, who will do all my will.
- 36:45And then Psalm 8920. The quote there I have.
- 36:49Found my servant David with my holy oil.
- 36:52I've anointed him. And then Psalm 78, verse 70 and
- 36:58to 70. 2 The Lord also. Chose David his servant, and
- 37:03took him from the sheepfolds from.
- 37:06Following the ewes that had. Young he brought him to shepherd
- 37:11Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
- 37:15So he shepherded. Them according to the integrity
- 37:18of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands
- 37:23integrity and. Skill God is.
- 37:27Looking for integrity, but he's also looking.
- 37:30It's looking for skill, and you know how.
- 37:35Did David develop skill? In playing on his lyre his, you
- 37:40know, homemade guitar, I'm sure he didn't have a Martin or.
- 37:45A tailor, he just, he had this. Some little thing called the
- 37:49liar you know it wasn't going to be.
- 37:51Ever. Be in the Top 40.
- 37:54But he was out there. Nobody heard him.
- 37:57Except the sheep. And he just sang to the.
- 38:01Lord, just worship the Lord. And God listened and you know
- 38:07when you're in the shower and you sing because it's a nice
- 38:10echo chamber, and even though you sing horrible, you sound
- 38:13like you're, you know, you're a pop.
- 38:15Star so it's you know, God is. Listening.
- 38:20But when you're worshipping him, can I say God is tone deaf?
- 38:27I think I can because. He looks through it all.
- 38:33He doesn't go like this going. It's a little rough, but I I got
- 38:39it. No, it's not that.
- 38:40Way he looks at it. And he?
- 38:42Just it just blesses his. Heart, you know, when you're
- 38:47little. I mean, having grandkids just
- 38:50opened up another. Part of the heart.
- 38:51Of God to me because when I see that when I hear them when they
- 38:56were when they were super. Little.
- 38:58You know, and they're, they're like singing a chorus they heard
- 39:00and it's kind of they mix up the words and, and you just.
- 39:04Go. You know, that's so sweet.
- 39:07That's another plug for you serving in the children's
- 39:09ministry, by the way. OK, Hey, you know what David was
- 39:16called a man after? God's heart before.
- 39:18Samuel anointed him. Being after God's heart didn't
- 39:25happen because he got anointed only very few men.
- 39:32Very few were anointed outwardly.
- 39:37With the Holy Spirit to. Carry on a work.
- 39:39Whether it was a prophet? A priest, a king, that's in the
- 39:45Old Testament season, but in the New Testament season under the
- 39:50New Covenant. God says.
- 39:53I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, your sons and your
- 39:58daughters. Shall prophecy.
- 40:00Your your young men shall. See visions your old.
- 40:03Men shall dream dreams, even the maidservants and the men
- 40:07servants. And so the the anointing of the
- 40:11Holy Spirit upon your life. As a believer is there for you.
- 40:19And and it changed. David's life after.
- 40:24He was anointed by Samuel here, and by the way, he wasn't even
- 40:29invited. To the feast.
- 40:30That God told Samuel to set up in Bethlehem.
- 40:33He was left out. Doing and taking care.
- 40:35Of the sheep, he was counted as a lightweight, probably.
- 40:38Got all the hand me downs and everything else, but it didn't
- 40:41change his life, he says. I'm you know, God is the most
- 40:44important thing to me. I don't.
- 40:45Care what you do. And he was a, as a teenager, a
- 40:50man. After God's heart.
- 40:53And so he was brought in, and when Samuel saw him.
- 40:59The Lord said that's. Him, because Samuel wouldn't
- 41:02have picked him. Naturally, he was thinking it
- 41:05was one of his three oldest. Brothers but God.
- 41:09Was looking and I tell. You what God is.
- 41:12Looking right now. God wants to be so.
- 41:16Strong in your behalf. He really does.
- 41:21That's his heart. And he'll work with you.
- 41:25He's long-suffering. He's patient, he's kind.
- 41:29He's. Good, but.
- 41:32He wants you to be like minded with him.
- 41:35That you take his heart to be your heart, his desires to be
- 41:39your desires, his law to be your law.
- 41:47And then God wants to pour out his spirit on your life and
- 41:50change you to give you boldness and courage like happened with
- 41:55David after he was anointed. It doesn't mean you're going to
- 41:58go in the ministry or or be some great politician or something.
- 42:03I mean. Politicians, are they great?
- 42:06Can I say that? I think so.
- 42:11I want to be anointed to do what?
- 42:13God has called. Me to do that's the main thing
- 42:18God doesn't need 2 of you because one is enough he needs
- 42:25you to be anointed with the Holy Spirit and.
- 42:28Carry out what he's called you to do with your.
- 42:31Family. With your work with the.
- 42:33Situations that unfold with all of a sudden, the.
- 42:36Desires of your heart to. Be involved with this and and
- 42:40and. God just wants to.
- 42:41Do that work? He but it takes being.
- 42:44Filled with the Holy Spirit. Be controlled by him, have
- 42:47boldness by him, not just. OK, I believe that.
- 42:54Jesus is the Son of God, and that's good.
- 42:57No, God has so much more for you but you.
- 42:59Have to be filled with the Holy Spirit, just like David.
- 43:03Was it changed his life. So tonight we have seen God was
- 43:11looking for someone. We watched the Lord reveal it
- 43:16little by little. And it landed upon this young
- 43:21teenager. He wasn't made king right away.
- 43:25And nobody knew in that, in that.
- 43:28Feast. Why?
- 43:28Even Samuel had anointed him, but God knew and it changed.
- 43:36David's life because. When you follow his life and
- 43:38that's part of your assignment as well.
- 43:40Keep on reading and just see all the sudden the changes that
- 43:45happened in David's life that he had.
- 43:47No, he wasn't planning. It just happened.
- 43:50As God was. Bringing him, training him,
- 43:53preparing him. And I tell you what.
- 43:57That's what God wants to do in your life.
- 43:59He wants to prepare you, He wants to train you, and He's got
- 44:04a plan for your life different than anybody else's.
- 44:12So Father in heaven, as we consider this time here,
- 44:18examining what happened with your servant David way back.
- 44:22Many, many, many. Years ago, the Bible shows your
- 44:27way. And Lord, we touched upon things
- 44:33in our own. Life that you see are.
- 44:35Very damaging. And that's projection of blame
- 44:39to cover disobedience to your word, blaming others, blaming
- 44:44things, blaming circumstances we've touched upon.
- 44:51The fact that there's. Repercussion to disobedience and
- 44:56we but we've touched upon the. Fact that you're looking.
- 45:05And Father God, how we need the fullness.
- 45:07Of the Holy Spirit. Upon our life.
- 45:11To carry out all that you. Want to do in US and through US
- 45:18change us by the fruit of the Spirit.
- 45:21But give us. Boldness and courage and power
- 45:24in our. Service to you, whatever that
- 45:26service is. And as we continue to.
- 45:32Pray here if you're here. Tonight and you're not even sure
- 45:37if you're in the family. Of God, Why should God?
- 45:41Choose you. I want to.
- 45:45Tell you the Lord is. Looking at you right now and he
- 45:49understands and he knows. He knows what to do, but he's
- 45:58waiting for your first step. As we continue to pray if this.
- 46:03Is you this? Evening and you need to get your
- 46:07life right with. God.
- 46:12I want you just to stand right where you are, and in standing
- 46:17you're saying I need to get my life right with you tonight.
- 46:24Is there anyone here tonight as the rest of us continue to pray,
- 46:30just between you and the. Lord God has been.
- 46:33Speaking to your heart, you need to.
- 46:36Get it right So. Standing is that first step
- 46:41right here. Anyone else?
- 46:50There'll be a pastor or a servant that will come up next
- 46:53to you and and help you, but I, I just want to give you 1.
- 46:57More opportunity to say, OK. I just need to stand and make
- 47:02things right. Is there anyone here?
- 47:10Anyone else from my brother?
- 47:22Here that has stood, I ask you just to.
- 47:26To follow me in prayer and open your heart to the Lord.
- 47:28OK, all right And say to him, God, I come to you tonight and I
- 47:38want to surrender my life to you.
- 47:42I turn from all the sin of my. Life with your help, forgive.
- 47:50Me of all my sin, wash me clean on the inside and fill me with
- 48:01your Holy Spirit. Change me to be a man after your
- 48:10heart. Those of you watching online,
- 48:19listening on the radio, just. Lift up a prayer just.
- 48:25Similar to that, Lord knows your heart and he'll take it and
- 48:30He'll do his work. So Father in Heaven we're at,
- 48:36we're thankful for how you love us and the work you're doing in
- 48:39our life. Thanks.
- 48:40For the scriptures that talk to us about.
- 48:43Young, David and the Process. We pray for all the.
