- 0:00This morning, this morning, you know I love seeds,
- 0:05right? I love to plant seeds. I love to eat seeds.
- 0:11And so today we're going to be talking about
- 0:13a parable of Jesus that concerns seeds. And so
- 0:19you're gonna want your Bible. So if you have
- 0:22your Bible or if you have it on your phone, I
- 0:24want you to pull it out. We're gonna go to Mark
- 0:26chapter four. Today I wanna ask you what your
- 0:29seed encounter will look like, okay? And so in
- 0:34Mark chapter four, we have a very popular parable
- 0:38that you may have heard, maybe not, of Jesus.
- 0:42This is just a story Jesus tells to explain the
- 0:47kingdom of God. And so we're going to be kind
- 0:50of walking through this. As you hear people preaching
- 0:54and teaching on this parable, you will hear different
- 0:57perspectives. Some people focus on the types
- 1:00of soil. Today, we're going to focus on the seed
- 1:04encounter of the parable. And so in Mark chapter
- 1:07four, we're going to read the first portion,
- 1:09and then we're going to skip ahead to Jesus's
- 1:12explanation. But starting in verse one, it says,
- 1:16again, Jesus began to teach by the lake. If Darren
- 1:23had his choice, this would be where he would
- 1:25choose to preach from as well, by the lake. That's
- 1:29right. The crowd that gathered around him was
- 1:32so large that he got into a boat and sat in it
- 1:37out on the lake, while all the people were along
- 1:41the shore at the water's edge. Now, this is also
- 1:45a dynamic thing because water carries sound.
- 1:49And so this would help Jesus also to project
- 1:52his voice to the crowds. He taught them many
- 1:56things by parables. And in this teaching, here's
- 1:59what he said. He said, listen, a farmer went
- 2:03out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the
- 2:08seed, some fell along the path and the birds
- 2:11came and ate it up. Okay, so there's our first
- 2:16encounter. The seed is scattered on the path
- 2:19and the birds ate it. The second encounter, some
- 2:23fell on rocky places where it did not have much
- 2:27soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was
- 2:31shallow. So initially it's like, wow, look at
- 2:34that fruit. That's awesome. But when the sun
- 2:37came up, the plants were scorched and they withered
- 2:41because they had no roots. Other seed fell among
- 2:45thorns, which grew up and choked the plants so
- 2:49that they did not bear grain. Still other seed
- 2:53fell on good soil. It came up, it grew, and produced
- 2:58a crop, some multiplying 30, some 60, some 100
- 3:03times. Okay, so this is the story that Jesus
- 3:06tells them of this seed, and they're confused.
- 3:09What are we talking about, Jesus? What does this
- 3:11mean? Well, if we go down to verse 14, he explains.
- 3:17He says the farmer sows the word. Some people
- 3:21are like seed along the path where the word is
- 3:24sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and
- 3:28takes away the word that was sown in them. Others
- 3:33like seed sown on rocky places hear the word
- 3:37and at once receive it with joy. But since they
- 3:41have no root, they last only a short time. When
- 3:45trouble or persecution comes, because of the
- 3:48word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like
- 3:52seeds sown among the thorns, hear the word, but
- 3:56the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of
- 3:59wealth, and the desires for other things, come
- 4:03in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
- 4:07Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the
- 4:11word, accept it, and produce a crop some 30,
- 4:1560, 100 times what was sown. Now, I love to hear
- 4:21Jesus because if you go back a chapter, Jesus
- 4:25is in the synagogue, the temple, preaching. And
- 4:29now we find that Jesus is... by a lake where
- 4:33a whole bunch of people have just, I love that
- 4:35Jesus takes the word to wherever there are people.
- 4:39Being in the church or on a lake somewhere outside
- 4:43of the church, Jesus will go where people need
- 4:47to hear his words of truth. And so today here
- 4:52you are and Jesus is coming to you to share his
- 4:57word with you where you're at. in your life and
- 5:01in your journey. He cares and he comes to where
- 5:04you are because he sees you. And so he will go
- 5:09wherever people are. And Mark, if we go back
- 5:12a couple chapters, we have a beautiful encounter
- 5:15that Jesus has with a man named Levi. And I'm
- 5:19gonna just read it to you because I want you
- 5:21to see this Jesus who is sharing this story.
- 5:26And so in Mark chapter 2 verse 13, it says that
- 5:31once again, Jesus went out beside the lake. A
- 5:36large crowd came to him and he began to teach
- 5:38them. As he walked along, he saw Levi, son of
- 5:42Alpheus, sitting at the tax collector's booth.
- 5:46Follow me, Jesus told him. So Levi got up and
- 5:51followed him while Jesus was having dinner at
- 5:54Levi's house. Many tax collectors and sinners
- 5:58were eating with him and his disciples, for there
- 6:01were many who followed him. When the teachers
- 6:04of the law, the religious leaders, when they
- 6:09saw him eating with the sinners and the tax collectors,
- 6:13they asked his disciples, hey guys, why is he
- 6:17eating with the tax collectors and the sinners?
- 6:21Why is he hanging out with them? On hearing this,
- 6:26Jesus said to them, it is not the healthy who
- 6:29need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come
- 6:35to call the righteous, but sinners. We all have
- 6:40needed to hear the call of Jesus. It says he
- 6:44is calling, come, follow me. Without him, we
- 6:51all carry spiritual sickness. Not one of us can
- 6:56be alive and thrive without Jesus, without carrying
- 7:03and heeding his call. We carry the sickness that
- 7:08sin produces. Who is he hanging out with? The
- 7:12tax collectors and the sinners. As I was working
- 7:15on this yesterday, I was looking around my living
- 7:18room at all of my plants. And I thought, oh,
- 7:22because you see, without oxygen, Without water,
- 7:26without food, we quickly fade and grow sickly,
- 7:30don't we? And so in that moment, I thought maybe
- 7:33I should do a plant check. Because you know,
- 7:36I tend to forget to water my plants. I love plants,
- 7:39but I get busy. And all of a sudden, I look up,
- 7:42I'm like, oh, they look sickly. They don't have
- 7:45water. Without oxygen, without water, without
- 7:54food, we grow sickly, we are cut off from the
- 7:59source of life. And when we're cut off from the
- 8:02source of life, we become sickly, we become weakened.
- 8:08Without Jesus, this is our spiritual state. And
- 8:13yet Jesus says, I've come not to help those that
- 8:18are already healthy, I've come to help the sick.
- 8:22And so, Jesus hangs out with tax collectors.
- 8:27He does things like hang out with sinners. You
- 8:31say, well, what's so bad about tax collectors?
- 8:33I work for the IRS. Let me just say, back in
- 8:36Jesus' time, they were notorious for stealing.
- 8:41And so, they were, nobody wanted to hang out
- 8:44with the tax collectors. You say, well, what
- 8:50is a sinner? It's very simple. One that has missed
- 8:55the mark of God. One that God has set the standard.
- 9:00Why does he get to set the standard? Well, he
- 9:02created everything. So I think that gives him
- 9:05a say in the standard. And so he sets the standard,
- 9:10and we all have missed the mark. In Romans, it
- 9:14says we all have fallen short of the glory of
- 9:17God. That's what sin is. And we all have done
- 9:20it. We all have been that, right? We all have
- 9:25been born into this thing called sin. And the
- 9:30beautiful thing is that Jesus is not afraid of
- 9:34that. Jesus comes in and takes care of the problem.
- 9:39And so we see Jesus eating with the tax collectors.
- 9:42You see this little picture up here. This is
- 9:45while you all were at your faith groups on Wednesday,
- 9:50This was the faith group that was happening here
- 9:53at the church Wednesday night. And so if you
- 9:56were to ask Jack and Kyrie, you can see they're
- 9:59working on a paper there. And what were they
- 10:03learning about Wednesday night? They were learning
- 10:06about Adam and Eve disobeying God. Disobeying
- 10:13God. This is what sin is it's when we have disobeyed
- 10:19God's standard and the the result of it is sickness
- 10:25and death and So today in this parable Jesus
- 10:31He calls to us Christ calls to us and how will
- 10:37we answer? How will we answer? Well, we're gonna
- 10:44look at here Jesus's example in this parable
- 10:49and so The farmer that is sowing the seed that
- 10:54would be God God is the farmer. He sows the seed
- 10:58and in this case we are talking specifically
- 11:01about the seed that is the Word of God Jesus
- 11:06the gift of salvation that we all have to answer
- 11:12to. And so here, if we look at this passage and
- 11:17we see that the seed is being sown on all of
- 11:21these different places, you know, what is God
- 11:24trying to do? He's trying to just get the seed
- 11:26anywhere that man will be. And it looks like,
- 11:29God, you're not a very good sower of seed. I
- 11:32wouldn't waste my seed here. I wouldn't waste
- 11:35my seed there. God is after all man. He's after
- 11:41anybody defines the seed of salvation. And so
- 11:46in John chapter one is what tells us that Jesus
- 11:50is the word. And so in John chapter one, it says,
- 11:55in the beginning was the word, and the word was
- 11:58with God, and the word was God. Jesus was there,
- 12:02the creation at the very beginning. when we needed
- 12:07this plan of salvation because we disobeyed God.
- 12:11It says in verse 14, the word became flesh in
- 12:17the form of Jesus and he made his dwelling among
- 12:20us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the
- 12:25one and only son who came from the father, full
- 12:28of grace and truth. And so what is the seed?
- 12:33The seed is the living word, Jesus. Okay? And
- 12:38so, here we are. Four. Four encounters with seed.
- 12:43How will you handle your encounter with seed?
- 12:48The first one is the seed along the path. This
- 12:52is the one that Jesus said, Satan comes and he
- 12:56does what? He steals it away. I understand this
- 13:02pain because I work hard in the years that I'm
- 13:05gardening to buy seed. It costs me something.
- 13:11I have to sit down when I place my seed order
- 13:14and be like, okay, this is a week's worth of
- 13:15groceries. That's all this is. You plant this
- 13:18and you're gonna have a whole summer full of
- 13:20food. But it cost me something that seed does.
- 13:24It cost me something in time and effort to put
- 13:28that seed in the ground. And then I watched these
- 13:30little God -given made creatures called birds
- 13:34and rabbits and squirrels steal my seed. I know
- 13:38what those robins they made going for the worms,
- 13:41but I know they get some of my seed too. I understand
- 13:44this pain. Listen, you have an enemy. And the
- 13:51word says that he is out to steal, kill, and
- 13:54destroy you. He's out to steal, kill, and destroy
- 14:00the seed that has been given to you in the gospel
- 14:04of Jesus Christ. And so what happens is you receive
- 14:10the word of salvation, and then the enemy, he
- 14:14never stops talking. He will not stop talking
- 14:18to you. He will not stop whispering in your ear.
- 14:21Did you really receive the gift of salvation?
- 14:25Did really Jesus come and save you of your sins?
- 14:29Did he take your punishment? Did he really? Do
- 14:33you know where else he did that? It was in the
- 14:35garden. Did God really say to you, Eve, don't
- 14:39eat this? He's always whispering in your ear.
- 14:44And so how will you handle this seed encounter?
- 14:50You got to learn how to say no to that voice.
- 14:55You gotta know how to resist the devil and he
- 14:58will flee from you. To say, no, you can't have
- 15:02my seed. I have received this seed. I have received
- 15:06the good news of Jesus and his salvation and
- 15:10you cannot have it. How will you handle this
- 15:13seed encounter? Because I don't care who you
- 15:16are, every last one of us that receives the seed
- 15:19of the gospel, the enemy will seek to steal,
- 15:23kill, and destroy it. How will you handle it
- 15:25when it happens? How will you handle this encounter?
- 15:32The second encounter is the seed sown on rocky
- 15:36places. You've heard the good news on Sunday
- 15:42morning, yes! Jesus has come to give me life.
- 15:46He's come to bring health to me. You receive
- 15:52it with great joy, but then you ignore it. And
- 15:58you have roots that might grow quickly, but because
- 16:02you ignore it, it withers and dies. I have this
- 16:08problem myself. In fact, because I've had such
- 16:12great intentions in the last two years at a garden
- 16:14and it's failed every time, I haven't had time.
- 16:17But I just keep buying plants anyway. Oh, look
- 16:21at those tomato plants, they're on clearance
- 16:23for $2. And I buy them because I'm shopping and
- 16:27I have time in that moment to buy them. And they
- 16:31have roots and I receive those tomato plants
- 16:33with great joy, envisioning all these tomatoes
- 16:37in my kitchen. And then I pull them out of my
- 16:42car and I sit them in my yard with every intention
- 16:47to take care of that and to plant them so they
- 16:50can grow deeper roots. And do you know what happens?
- 16:56I get busy. and I ignore it and I forget about
- 17:00it. Every once in a while, I might throw a little
- 17:02water on it to try to keep it alive. And then
- 17:06there comes the day where I walked by, I was
- 17:08like, well, it was nice having you while I had
- 17:10you. I received it with great joy, but I did
- 17:15not allow for the roots to grow. They had some
- 17:19roots, but it wasn't enough to sustain. Tomato
- 17:22plants like deep roots. They like to be planted
- 17:25deep. For those where you you hear it and you
- 17:32receive it with a joy. Here's what happens Troubles
- 17:35hit and that's it Everybody say troubles hit
- 17:40and that's it. I Know in my family some people
- 17:47that have not my interview. I'm not talking about
- 17:49my girls here, but I've known people that in
- 17:54their effort to become healthy, like, I'm gonna
- 17:57try this supplement. I'm gonna try not eating
- 18:01sugar. I'm gonna try eating this way. And do
- 18:05you know what happens? They give it up. When
- 18:09they don't, within a week, see something from
- 18:13it, they give it up. And do you know how many
- 18:17people receive the seed of salvation? I'm going
- 18:20to try Jesus out, but if he doesn't fix everything
- 18:24in my life, I'm done for. When troubles hit,
- 18:29that's it. How will you handle trouble? How will
- 18:35you protect the seed that you've been given?
- 18:41What will your encounter with the seed of salvation
- 18:43be? We have to protect the roots. We have to
- 18:50protect the roots. We have to move our seed from
- 18:53the rocky places and get it into the soil, or
- 18:57it's going to quickly wither and die. The third
- 19:03area. And see, I'm watching the time, because
- 19:07a chicken will be here in 15 minutes. But I've
- 19:11got you today. The third encounter with seed.
- 19:17is the seed sown among thorns. I feel like for
- 19:22us in the Western church, this might be the most
- 19:27significant. Because it is in this place, it
- 19:31says, that Jesus says, you hear the word, but
- 19:35the worries of this life and the deceitfulness
- 19:39of wealth and the desire for other things, choke
- 19:43it. When you receive salvation, when you decide,
- 19:50yes, Christ has called to come and follow Him,
- 19:55and I am saying yes. And it starts out good on
- 20:02that path of following Him. But then, oh, wait
- 20:05a minute, this thing of the world, I really don't
- 20:09want to give that up. I had a conversation with
- 20:12one of you this week about this. Am I gonna have
- 20:17to give up some of my friends? Is it gonna affect
- 20:20some of my friendships following Jesus? Well,
- 20:25yes, the truth is it had already started affecting
- 20:27some of her relationships. And it's in these
- 20:32moments that we make the decision, am I really
- 20:37gonna be a Christ follower? When it begins to
- 20:41affect... how I spend my money, when it begins
- 20:43to affect how I spend my time, when it begins
- 20:47to affect what my relationships are. If we don't
- 20:55make the decision ahead of time, then we're gonna
- 20:58have trouble following Christ. I was listening
- 21:03to, oh, the Bethel guy. Bill Johnson. And he
- 21:10was sharing about a story he had heard about
- 21:14a handball champion, a man that when he was seven
- 21:19had been in a railroad accident and lost an arm
- 21:22and had been very athletic. And so he wanted
- 21:26to continue to be athletic. And so he figured
- 21:29out he could do handball. I've never played handball,
- 21:33but most of them use both hands to play handball.
- 21:37And so he learned to do it and he became went
- 21:40on. He's now in the Hall of Fame for handball.
- 21:45And and so they were asking him what his cause
- 21:50for success was. And this is what he said. When
- 21:55the ball comes off of the wall. He said, I don't
- 22:01have to decide which hand to use. That was his
- 22:10cause for success. The choice had been removed
- 22:14from him. And so mentally, in that quickness
- 22:19of movement, the ball is coming toward him. And
- 22:23if you look up handball, there are techniques
- 22:26to know which hand to use. But for him, there
- 22:29was no decision -making process. He had one hand.
- 22:34And often, we have too many choices. This world
- 22:39offers so many lures to us. It calls to us in
- 22:43so many ways, so many options to give to us.
- 22:48There's one option we must commit to when we
- 22:51are receiving the seed of salvation. I will follow
- 22:55Jesus. I will not get sidetracked. I remove all
- 23:00other options. And you will have to make choices.
- 23:05You will have to make choices. When my family
- 23:10had received the gift of the seed of salvation,
- 23:14it affected my parents. They had to make the
- 23:18choice they were going to actually live together
- 23:21in marriage and not, they were headed to divorce.
- 23:25When we accepted this seed of salvation, it meant
- 23:29that we had to eventually bring a bit of schism
- 23:33in our family and leave the Catholic Church.
- 23:36When we received the gift of salvation in junior
- 23:40high, I did lose friends. I remember my closest
- 23:44friend. It affected us. When we accepted the
- 23:49gift of salvation, it affected our time. No longer
- 23:53was my dad playing in the bars in the weekends.
- 23:57We now were traveling a half hour to church.
- 24:00Every Sunday morning, every Sunday night, every
- 24:04Wednesday night, and everything in between, we
- 24:07were all in. It affected us. And so when we receive
- 24:16this gift of salvation, this seed of salvation,
- 24:22suddenly how we view the things of this life
- 24:25and this world have a different perspective.
- 24:29Suddenly they're not our priority, but the priority
- 24:33is following Christ. Heeding the call come. I
- 24:37love Levi didn't even sit there and question
- 24:40Jesus. Well, Jesus, what will that look like?
- 24:44What will that cost me? Because he left his current
- 24:48job. Levi was making good money collecting taxes.
- 24:53He didn't ask Jesus, am I gonna be reimbursed?
- 24:57For the money I lose if I follow you, I was listening
- 25:01to a book, an audio book, and he tells the story
- 25:05of a man that worked for Microsoft. And he had,
- 25:12as part of his job, received 16 shares in Microsoft.
- 25:17Each share worth multiple millions of dollars.
- 25:21And he had 16 of them. As he's working for Microsoft,
- 25:26he hears the call of God to plant a church. And
- 25:32so he quits his job at Microsoft. Microsoft is
- 25:37asking, what can we do to get you to stay here?
- 25:41He had heard the call. He had heard the call
- 25:44of Christ and he said he resigned. And in the
- 25:48resigning, he lost all 16 shares. to take a pastoral
- 25:55job of 26, I believe it was, thousand a year.
- 26:00And he said to God, he said, God, for every dollar
- 26:05that I gave up, I want a soul. His church is
- 26:11currently running 6 ,000 people. It's one of
- 26:15the fastest growing churches. What did he do?
- 26:20He heard the call and he said no to the things
- 26:24of the world that would try to lure him in. Because
- 26:27you know how we think, we think things like,
- 26:30well God, what I could do with 16 shares for
- 26:33the kingdom. All those millions of dollars, what
- 26:36I could do for the kingdom, you know how our
- 26:39minds work and how we justify. And he's like,
- 26:43nope. Christ called to me to come and to follow,
- 26:47and I say yes, I say no to those things that
- 26:50would lure me, and I say yes, and 6 ,000 souls
- 26:54later. And he's still, I mean, he has not finished
- 27:00his race, who knows where he'll end up, right?
- 27:02And who knows how many souls of those 6 ,000
- 27:06are going to win, right? This is how multiplication
- 27:09works in the kingdom of God. But we have to say
- 27:15yes, we can't let this world and the worry and
- 27:18the things choke out This gift of salvation There
- 27:25was a rich young man that came to Jesus and and
- 27:29he said good teacher What must I do? to inherit
- 27:33life eternal life and I love it says Jesus looked
- 27:38at him and loved him But then Jesus said, because
- 27:46the man said, I follow all these laws, all the
- 27:51laws of God. But see, Jesus looked at him and
- 27:55saw the lacking thing, and he said, here's what
- 27:58you lack. Go sell everything you have and give
- 28:00it to the poor, and you will have treasure in
- 28:04heaven. Then come follow me, Jesus said. The
- 28:10man's face fell and he went away sad. It says,
- 28:13because he had great wealth. Listen, I don't
- 28:17care what your thing is. This was his thing.
- 28:20We all have a thing that we have to say no to,
- 28:25to heed the call, to embrace the seed. The fourth
- 28:34seed encounter. This is the one that we want
- 28:39to attain to. This is the encounter with the
- 28:42good soil. This is the seed that hears the word,
- 28:48that accepts it and produces a crop. In ancient
- 28:52biblical times, a crop that was a crop of 10
- 28:58times the seed would have been good. But what
- 29:01does God say? I'll give you one of 30 and 60
- 29:05of 100. This is the kind of crop I'll give to
- 29:09you. If you will accept, if you will hear the
- 29:13word, accept it, it'll produce a crop. Zacchaeus,
- 29:20how many of you know him? If you grew up in the
- 29:24church, you knew the song. Zacchaeus was a wee
- 29:27little man. Wee little man was he. Yeah, you
- 29:31all know that? Yes, you're all sitting there
- 29:33singing it. It's now gonna be stuck in your head
- 29:35all day. You're welcome. I love this encounter
- 29:39because Zacchaeus has an encounter with the seed
- 29:44Jesus in Luke 19. And it says that Jesus is entering
- 29:49Jericho and he's passing through. And a man was
- 29:54there by the name of... Interestingly enough,
- 30:00in good company with Levi, he was chief tax collector
- 30:04and very wealthy. It says he wanted to see Jesus.
- 30:11He wanted to see who Jesus was. He couldn't look
- 30:15him up on the internet. He had never seen him.
- 30:17He wanted to know who Jesus was. But because
- 30:21he was short, he could not see over the crowd.
- 30:25I have had that happen to me. All the short people
- 30:30are laughing. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore
- 30:38fig tree to see Jesus, since Jesus was coming
- 30:43that way. When Jesus reached the spot, I love
- 30:47this, he reaches the spot, and you know, there's
- 30:50all kinds of people crowding him, but somehow
- 30:53Jesus knows to stop and to look up. And he looks
- 31:00up and he says to him, Zacchaeus, come down immediately.
- 31:04I must stay at your house today. All these crowds
- 31:07of people. And I don't know, I'm kind of thinking
- 31:10he looks up and he's like, there's a guy in the
- 31:12tree. I feel like he's the guy I want to go stay
- 31:15with. I know there's a crowd of people, but he's
- 31:18in a tree. And so I think I want to stay with
- 31:21him. I feel like there's just, he can sense this
- 31:25guy's so desperate to see me, he's climbing a
- 31:27tree. That's the one I want to go to. So he came
- 31:33down at once, and it says that he welcomed him.
- 31:37If we know the song, we know he served him tea,
- 31:41right? I'm coming to your house for tea. We don't
- 31:47get that from scripture, but. All the people
- 31:53saw this and began to mutter. Again, he has gone
- 31:56to a house of a sinner. Jesus liked to be there.
- 32:02But Zacchaeus stood up and he said to the Lord,
- 32:07look, Lord. Here and now I give half of my possessions
- 32:11to the poor. And if I have cheated anybody out
- 32:14of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.
- 32:17And Jesus says to him, today salvation has come
- 32:21to this house, because this man too is a son
- 32:24of Abraham, for the son of man came to seek and
- 32:28to save the lost. I love this heart of Zacchaeus.
- 32:34He was good soil. He had a soil that was ready
- 32:38to receive the seed of Jesus and begin to immediately
- 32:44bear fruit, immediately. Unlike the rich young
- 32:50man who said, what do I need to do to get saved?
- 32:53This guy, he just needed Jesus to come into his
- 32:56house and there's this immediate response of,
- 33:00I am compelled. I am compelled to give what I've
- 33:05had. I am compelled. I am compelled to pay back
- 33:10what I have cheated. What was he? He was a man
- 33:13that was truly repentive of his sin. He had an
- 33:20encounter with Jesus and his immediate response
- 33:24was, I have to make things right. He had good
- 33:27soil to receive the seed of Jesus. And so this
- 33:33morning, it's very simple. But sometimes you
- 33:40have to go back to the simple. Sometimes you
- 33:46have to be reminded of how you've answered this
- 33:51call that Christ has given. Christ is calling
- 33:54to us today. How will we answer? How will we
- 34:00handle this seed that has been sown in our lives?
- 34:06Because the truth is is that you all are sitting
- 34:09here you Nobody's forced any of you to come well,
- 34:13maybe the kids But you all today have heard there
- 34:19is a gift of seed of salvation That Jesus wants
- 34:25to give to you And the truth is that in these
- 34:30four encounters, in these four seed encounters,
- 34:35the choice is yours. is yours if you are going
- 34:43to be a seed that is allowed to just you hear
- 34:46the gospel and you allow the enemy to take it
- 34:49or you have received the gospel and you ignore
- 34:53the roots and they quickly die off or if you
- 34:57are going to be one that yeah i want to follow
- 35:00jesus but i don't know i i don't want to disturb
- 35:03my family i don't want to disrupt because suddenly
- 35:06i have ethics in my workplace and some might
- 35:08not like that Or are you gonna be one that you
- 35:14have the choice to say, I'm gonna create good
- 35:17soil. I'm gonna nurture the seed that I've received
- 35:23today. The choice is always ours. Free will that
- 35:27God gives. He says, I have given the seed. I
- 35:32have given my son Jesus. What will you do with
- 35:37it? And that's the question for each of us today.
- 35:41What will you do with it? And so I'm gonna ask
- 35:44if the team will come back this morning. For
- 35:47some of you, you might already say, I've been
- 35:50following Christ for a number of years. Can I
- 35:57say to you that, I don't know, I still have to
- 36:00continually daily answer the call of Christ in
- 36:02my life. And sometimes the Lord pinpoints something
- 36:08in my life. It says you need to You need to give
- 36:11that to me. You need to let go of that in order
- 36:13to follow me better. Always I'm having to choose
- 36:19to nurture my soil, to feed my soil, to create
- 36:24good soil for this gift of salvation. And there
- 36:29are some of you here today that you're saying,
- 36:32I have never ever received this seed. This is
- 36:38the first time I've heard that this gift of Jesus,
- 36:43this call of Christ to come and to follow me.
- 36:46I have never heard the call before, but I hear
- 36:49it today. Today is your day. I am forever grateful
- 36:55for the day that I heard Christ calling to me
- 36:58saying, Cami, come and follow me. At the age
- 37:02of 10, And now 40 years later, it is still my
- 37:07joy to keep answering the call to follow Christ.
- 37:12It has been the best thing I've ever done in
- 37:14my life and I'm so thankful for the grace and
- 37:17mercy of Jesus that enabled me to hear it. And
- 37:21that call is given to you today. The fruit of
- 37:26peace, the fruit of abundant life. Will you still
- 37:31have trials and tribulations? You sure will.
- 37:35You sure will. But this surpassing greatness
- 37:41of following Christ, it produces peace in the
- 37:46midst of it. It produces life, abundant life
- 37:49in the midst of it. And the day that we stand
- 37:54before Him, The day that we stand before him,
- 37:59I guarantee you it'll be worth every yes that
- 38:01you give to him. It'll be worth every yes. And
- 38:06so I'm going to ask this morning, if we'll all
- 38:09stand, we're going to in a moment just have a
- 38:11moment of worship. But listen, Christ is calling
- 38:16to you today. And today is the day for you to
- 38:20give your yes. What did Levi and Zacchaeus have
- 38:24to do? They had to actually get up and leave
- 38:28and move to where Jesus was to follow him. And
- 38:33I, in our Western culture, sometimes we like
- 38:36to make it really easy for you to say yes to
- 38:40answering that call. But friend, Jesus was raised
- 38:44up publicly on a cross. He bore our sins. and
- 38:48our shame before all the world to see, he was
- 38:52beaten and naked before all the world to see
- 38:55in order to give us this gift of salvation. And
- 38:58so very simply this morning is the call, will
- 39:02you say yes to Christ calling to you today to
- 39:06come and to follow me, to come and to follow
- 39:11me. And so this morning, here's what I'm gonna
- 39:14do. I'm gonna ask if our elders will come on
- 39:16up, I don't want to make it too hard. I want
- 39:19to make it a little easy for you. Our elders
- 39:21are going to go ahead and come down to the altar.
- 39:23And as we begin to worship, if you need to say
- 39:26yes to the call of Christ, today is the day to
- 39:31do it. There is no better moment for you to say
- 39:35yes to the call of Christ. And so as the team
- 39:38begins to lead us, you need to say yes. and give
- 39:43your yes and let the elders pray with you this
- 39:46morning, amen? And so everybody's eyes are open
- 39:50right now. If you are not responding, I want
- 39:53you just to begin to worship Jesus. I want you
- 39:56just to begin to give thanks that you were able
- 39:59to say yes to the call in your life and be reminded
- 40:03of that. And so come on up. Team's gonna lead,
- 40:06but you begin to move even now and give your
- 40:09yes to Jesus. Come on, give your yes to Jesus.
- 40:13Thank you, Lord.
