- 0:00Welcome to a very special edition of Half Faith Let It Begin.
- 0:03Today is February 18th, 2026. It's Ash Wednesday.
- 0:08And today, I call this episode, Return to the Lord.
- 0:12Today is Ash Wednesday. And today, we begin the season of Lent.
- 0:16Now, maybe you're very familiar with Lent. Or maybe this is new to you.
- 0:22Either way, I want you to hear this very clearly.
- 0:25Lent is not about guilt. It's about returning.
- 0:29Ash Wednesday reminds us of something both humbling and holy.
- 0:34For dust you are, and to dust you will return.
- 0:39Genesis 3, verse 19. Those words can sound heavy, but they are not meant to
- 0:46shame us. They are meant to ground us.
- 0:49They remind us that life is fragile, time is precious, and our dependence on God is real.
- 0:57The ashes placed on the forehead are not a symbol of failure.
- 1:00They are a symbol of surrender.
- 1:03Surrender of pride. Surrender of self-sufficiency.
- 1:07Surrender of the illusion that we can do this life alone.
- 1:13And scripture calls us clearly. In Joel 2, verse 13, it says,
- 1:18Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate,
- 1:25slow to anger and abounding in love. Return.
- 1:30Not perform, not pretend, not impress, return.
- 1:35Maybe you've drifted spiritually. Maybe prayer has felt distant.
- 1:39Maybe life has been loud, busy, overwhelming.
- 1:43Ash Wednesday is an invitation, not a condemnation. It's God saying, come back to me.
- 1:50And Lent is not about perfection for 40 days. It's about intention.
- 1:55It's about creating space to pray more intentionally, to reflect more honestly,
- 2:01to fast from distractions, to give more generously, generously,
- 2:07to give more generously, to examine our hearts.
- 2:11Lent prepares us for Easter because you cannot fully celebrate resurrection
- 2:16if you have never sat with surrender.
- 2:19This season, ask hard questions.
- 2:22Where have I grown distance from God? Where did I need healing?
- 2:28What needs to be laid down, but it also offers hope.
- 2:32Because repentance is not punishment, it's restoration. And here's the beautiful truth.
- 2:39He does not shame those who return. He welcomes them every single time.
- 2:45So as we begin the Lenten journey together here on Half Faith Let It Begin,
- 2:50I want to gently encourage you.
- 2:52Take this season, this moment seriously, but not fearfully.
- 2:57Reflect, but not.
- 3:00Condemn yourself. Fast, but don't boast.
- 3:03Pray, but don't perform. Let this be a quiet reset.
- 3:08Over the next several weeks, we'll walk through themes of surrender,
- 3:12forgiveness, sacrifice, renewal, and preparation.
- 3:16This is a season to slow down, to examine your heart, to draw closer,
- 3:21because Easter is coming.
- 3:23But before resurrection, there's reflection. Before victory, there is surrender.
- 3:29Before celebration, there is repentance. And God is not waiting to judge you.
- 3:34He's waiting to restore you. Let's begin this journey together.
- 3:39Let's pray. Lord, as we enter this season of Lent, soften our hearts,
- 3:43reveal what needs to be surrendered. Draw us closer to you.
- 3:47Help us return, not in fear, but in faith.
- 3:52Thank you for your grace, your compassion, and your endless love. Amen.
- 3:57And remember that because you matter and never forget. Have faith, let it begin.
- 4:03Ash Wednesday starts right now.
