- 0:14Speaker 2: He is already inside. The Unusual Paranormal walked us through
- 0:20Speaker 2: the dark history of the Blevins shootout. Good morning, good afternoon,
- 0:27Speaker 2: good evening, wherever you are across the country. And around
- 0:32Speaker 2: the world, you are listening to Ghost Stories and the
- 0:36Speaker 2: Unusual Paranormal Podcast. I am indeed your spooky host, Joe
- 0:42Speaker 2: the Ghost Guy. I hope you're all ready for tonight's story.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Tonight's story is going to be a real scary one.
- 0:53Speaker 2: And I hope you're ready. Tonight's story is a request
- 1:07Speaker 2: by Tim and Diane Pender. They live in Sholo, Arizona.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And they have heard stories about the slate. So they
- 1:19Speaker 2: reached out to me, Joe the Ghost Guy, and to
- 1:25Speaker 2: do an episode on it. So, without further ado, Let's
- 1:30Speaker 2: get into tonight's story. There are places where the darkness
- 1:37Speaker 2: feels different. Places where the silence isn't empty. It is waiting.
- 1:46Speaker 2: In the White Mountains of Arizona, just outside Cholo, Arizona,
- 1:56Speaker 2: there is a beautiful lake surrounded by towering ponderosa pine trees.
- 2:03Speaker 2: During the day, Blue Hollow Lake can be peaceful. The
- 2:09Speaker 2: water reflects the sky. Birds move through the trees. Families
- 2:17Speaker 2: fish along the shoreline. Campers gather around their fires as
- 2:23Speaker 2: mountain air grows cold. But when the night falls, full
- 2:31Speaker 2: hollow changes. The trees become black silhouettes and the wind disappears.
- 2:45Speaker 2: The surface of the lake can become so still that
- 2:51Speaker 2: it looks less than water, more like a sheet of
- 2:56Speaker 2: black glass. And according to local legend, there's something beneath
- 3:03Speaker 2: that glass. Something that has been searching for its gray
- 3:10Speaker 2: for generations. They call her the Blue Lady. Tonight, we're
- 3:19Speaker 2: going deep into one of Arizona's strangest, most legends. A
- 3:27Speaker 2: story of a forgotten settlement, a young woman, a vanished grave,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and a spirit said to wander the waters, a full
- 3:44Speaker 2: hollow beneath its eerie blue glow. This is a story
- 3:53Speaker 2: Of the Blue Lady. Of Full Hollow. Long before. Full Hollow.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Became a lake. There was a settlement there. The area.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Was associated. With a pioneer community. Called. Amidar. Named. Named after.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Thomas Jefferson Adar. The settlers. came believing that the hollow
- 4:27Speaker 2: might provide an opportunity to build new lives. But the
- 4:33Speaker 2: land proved unforgiving. The soils, because the soil or the
- 4:41Speaker 2: ground was so poor, the hollow could experience severe freezes.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The crops struggled. The dream of establishing a prosperous community
- 4:58Speaker 2: slowly turned into a nightmare of hunger, hardship, and survival. Eventually,
- 5:07Speaker 2: the settlement was abandoned, but the story does not end here,
- 5:14Speaker 2: because decades later, the landscape itself changed. was dammed, water
- 5:25Speaker 2: began filling the hollow, and that had once been land
- 5:34Speaker 2: is now a lake. Today, the recreation area encompasses hundreds
- 5:43Speaker 2: of acres surrounding full hollow lake. According to legend, the
- 5:49Speaker 2: water did more That just cover old landscape. It covered. Memories.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It covered. Remnants. Of an earlier time. And somewhere. Beneath
- 6:06Speaker 2: the water. These places. Where people had once lived. Walked. Worked.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And also. Died. And that. is where the story of
- 6:22Speaker 2: the Blue Lady begins. The legend tells of a young
- 6:28Speaker 2: woman whose life was somehow connected to an old settlement.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Her name was not, had been formerly preserved. Her exact
- 6:40Speaker 2: history is not certain. And that uncertainty makes the story
- 6:48Speaker 2: even darker. Because over time, the woman became less of
- 6:54Speaker 2: a historical person and more of a ghost story. According
- 7:00Speaker 2: to the legend, her spirit never found peace. She is
- 7:07Speaker 2: said to appear dressed entirely in blue. Not white. Not gray.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Not transparent. but blue, a strange blue figure against the darkness.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And sometimes she is said to be surrounded by unnatural
- 7:35Speaker 2: blue glow. Imagine standing beside full hollow, wait at night,
- 7:43Speaker 2: no moon, no voices. No campers talking about fires, talking
- 7:50Speaker 2: around their fires. Only the sound of the wind moving
- 7:55Speaker 2: through the pine trees. Look across the lake. At first,
- 8:01Speaker 2: there is nothing. Then you know of something. A tiny light. Blue.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Far out on the water. You stare. The light doesn't move.
- 8:18Speaker 2: You blink. It's still there. Then. It starts getting closer.
- 8:26Speaker 2: The most disturbing part of the legend. Isn't simply. That
- 8:31Speaker 2: the blue lady appears. As was where. What disappeared. It
- 8:37Speaker 2: is where. She appears. She is said to hover. Just
- 8:43Speaker 2: above the dark water. Not swim. not walk, hover, as
- 8:51Speaker 2: though her feet never touched the lake, as though something
- 8:57Speaker 2: is keeping her suspended between the world of the living
- 9:03Speaker 2: and the place where she died. Some versions of the
- 9:09Speaker 2: legend describes her as searching, searching for something, her grave,
- 9:18Speaker 2: The resting place. The place that may have been lost
- 9:23Speaker 2: when Apollo disappeared underneath the water. And if that is true,
- 9:31Speaker 2: then imagine what entirely would it feel like. Searching for
- 9:39Speaker 2: a grave that no longer exists. Searching beneath the water
- 9:46Speaker 2: that wasn't there when you died. Searching through a landscape
- 9:53Speaker 2: has been completely transformed, generation after generation. passes. The world changes.
- 10:04Speaker 2: People come and they go. Settlements disappear. The lake is created,
- 10:13Speaker 2: but she remains still searching, still waiting. Still looking. There
- 10:22Speaker 2: is something especially frightening about the blue light at night.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It doesn't look natural. The campfire glows orange. The flashlight
- 10:35Speaker 2: shines white. The moon casts silver. A blue? Blue can
- 10:44Speaker 2: look cold. Almost lifeless. And according to the full hollow legend,
- 10:52Speaker 2: that is the color associated with her. Imagine seeing that
- 10:59Speaker 2: glow floating across the lake. You assume it's just a reflection.
- 11:06Speaker 2: A distant flashlight. Perhaps moonlight striking on the water. You
- 11:12Speaker 2: tell yourself there is a perfectly reasonable explanation about it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But then the blue light rises higher, higher. And suddenly,
- 11:28Speaker 2: you realize it isn't reflecting from the water. It's just
- 11:35Speaker 2: above it. And beneath the glow, there is a shape,
- 11:42Speaker 2: a woman standing motionless. her like water. Her face is pale.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Her eyes are fixed upon the shore. And she doesn't blink.
- 12:01Speaker 2: She simply watches. What would you do? Would you run?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Would you call for someone? Would you turn away? Or
- 12:17Speaker 2: would you just stare? trying to convince yourself that you're
- 12:22Speaker 2: seeing something that isn't really there. One of the most
- 12:29Speaker 2: haunting ideas behind the Blue Lady legend is that the
- 12:36Speaker 2: idea that the water can hide history. When you look
- 12:42Speaker 2: across the full hollow lake, you're looking at a modern landscape.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But beneath that water is a memory of another landscape.
- 12:55Speaker 2: The hollow that existed before the lake itself. The old settlement.
- 13:04Speaker 2: The lives of people who struggle there. And the places
- 13:10Speaker 2: they have left behind. That make the full hollow different
- 13:16Speaker 2: from any haunted building. A haunted house can be explored.
- 13:22Speaker 2: A haunted hotel can be entered. An abandoned prison can
- 13:29Speaker 2: be walked through. But the haunted lake? You can't simply
- 13:35Speaker 2: walk down the hallway and open the door. The part,
- 13:41Speaker 2: the past, has been submerged. Hidden. Unrecognizable. unreachable. And if
- 13:52Speaker 2: the legend is true, perhaps exactly why the Blue Lady
- 13:59Speaker 2: can't leave. Now imagine a night at Full Hollow. A
- 14:07Speaker 2: campfire sits alone near the shoreline. The fire has burnt
- 14:13Speaker 2: down to glowing embers. The other campers I've gone to sleep.
- 14:20Speaker 2: The forest is about completely silent. You hear something. A splash.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You look towards the water. Nothing. And there's another sound. Splash.
- 14:38Speaker 2: This time closer. Is it a fish? You start to wonder.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You stand up. You grab your flashlight. The beam travels
- 14:51Speaker 2: across the shoreline. Trees. Rocks. Water. There's nothing. Then the
- 15:02Speaker 2: flashlight flickers. Once. Twice. Three times. Then it goes dark.
- 15:14Speaker 2: The camper stops. taps it against his hand. Nothing. Then,
- 15:21Speaker 2: a faint blue light appears across the lake. You watch.
- 15:31Speaker 2: The light grows brighter. A figure slowly emerges from the darkness.
- 15:40Speaker 2: It's a woman standing over the water. Her dress is blue.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Her hair was slightly in the wind. But the trees
- 15:53Speaker 2: aren't moving. The water isn't moving. Nothing is moving except her.
- 16:03Speaker 2: She raises one arm. She points towards the shore. You
- 16:10Speaker 2: freeze because She isn't pointing at you. She's pointing behind you.
- 16:21Speaker 2: You slowly turn. Nothing. Then you hear a woman's voice
- 16:31Speaker 2: right beside your ear. You spin around. Nobody is there.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You look back towards the light. The blue lady is gone.
- 16:46Speaker 2: But the water? It's still rippling. A different visitor walks
- 16:54Speaker 2: behind the lake late at night. They notice something unusual.
- 17:02Speaker 2: A woman appears to be standing near the shoreline. She
- 17:07Speaker 2: wears blue. The visitor assumes She's just another camper. So
- 17:15Speaker 2: they call out. Are you okay? The woman doesn't answer.
- 17:22Speaker 2: The visitor takes several steps closer. Do you need any help?
- 17:31Speaker 2: Still nothing. Then the woman slowly turns. And the visitor
- 17:38Speaker 2: realizes something is wrong. Her feet Ain't touching the ground.
- 17:44Speaker 2: There's a small space. Between her dress. And the earth.
- 17:52Speaker 2: The visitor freezes. The woman's face. Appears. Almost. Expressionless. And then.
- 18:04Speaker 2: She begins to move backwards. Not walking. Not running. but
- 18:13Speaker 2: simply backwards towards the lake. The visitor watches helplessly. The
- 18:20Speaker 2: woman's body reaches the shoreline. She continues backwards. Her feet
- 18:28Speaker 2: just pass over the water, and then she disappears in
- 18:35Speaker 2: the darkness. No splash. No ripples. with that strange blue
- 18:46Speaker 2: glow floating above the lake. Perhaps the most disturbing question
- 18:54Speaker 2: is not whether the Blue Lady exists. Perhaps the real
- 19:00Speaker 2: question is, what does she want? If the legend is
- 19:06Speaker 2: about a woman searching for her lost resting place, then
- 19:11Speaker 2: maybe She isn't trying to frighten anyone. Maybe she's just lost.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Maybe she's been searching for more than a century. Imagine
- 19:24Speaker 2: wandering forever through a place you no longer recognize. The
- 19:29Speaker 2: trees are different. The land is gone. Your home has
- 19:34Speaker 2: been disappeared. Your grave is hidden. The people you know
- 19:40Speaker 2: are gone. And every night, he returned to the water, searching, searching.
- 19:51Speaker 2: searching for something that may no longer exist maybe the
- 19:57Speaker 2: blue lady isn't evil maybe she's just simply trapped there's
- 20:06Speaker 2: a particular move a moment When the lake becomes frightening.
- 20:14Speaker 2: It isn't where the wind blows. It isn't when the
- 20:18Speaker 2: wave crashes. It's when everything just stops. Imagine full hollow
- 20:30Speaker 2: at midnight. The trees stand perfectly still. The lake becomes motionless.
- 20:39Speaker 2: There are no insects. No chirping. No voices. No footsteps.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Then a single ripple appears right at the center of
- 20:55Speaker 2: the lake. Another ripple. Then another. Something is moving beneath
- 21:05Speaker 2: the surface. You watch. The riddle. The ripples widen, and suddenly,
- 21:14Speaker 2: a blue light appears. At first, it's barely visible, and
- 21:21Speaker 2: when it comes brighter, then it comes brighter, till the
- 21:27Speaker 2: entire center of the lake seems to glow. A woman's
- 21:32Speaker 2: silhouette rises above the water. She turns towards you. and
- 21:39Speaker 2: you realize she's been looking directly at you. The legend
- 21:45Speaker 2: of the Blue Lady has become part of a strange
- 21:49Speaker 2: folklore surrounding Full Hollow. In recent years, the story has
- 21:57Speaker 2: been incorporated into public artwork. At the recreation area, students
- 22:06Speaker 2: from Northern Pioneer College Researched the area's history and created
- 22:14Speaker 2: murals inspired the Full Hollow's legends, including the Blue Lady
- 22:20Speaker 2: or the Lady of the Lake. One of these artist's
- 22:28Speaker 2: renditions depicts closely figure staring starting out of the water's
- 22:40Speaker 2: towards the visitors. And perhaps there is something fitting about that.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Because the ghost stories survive when people continue to tell them.
- 22:53Speaker 2: The Blue Lady may exist only in legend. Or perhaps
- 22:58Speaker 2: there is something else behind the story. A strange light.
- 23:02Speaker 2: A distant figure. a reflection, a memory. A story passes
- 23:15Speaker 2: from one person to another. Once you hear it, you
- 23:19Speaker 2: cannot look at Full Hollow the same again. So if
- 23:25Speaker 2: you ever find yourself at Full Hollow Lake after dark,
- 23:30Speaker 2: surrounded by towering pines with lights of Sholo far behind you,
- 23:38Speaker 2: take a moment. Listen. Listen to the wind. Listen to
- 23:45Speaker 2: the water. If you look across the lake, whatever you do,
- 23:53Speaker 2: do not stare too long. Because if the legend is true,
- 23:59Speaker 2: you might see something else blue. At first, you may
- 24:04Speaker 2: think it's just a reflection. When you When you realize
- 24:10Speaker 2: it's moving. You might be seeing something blue at first.
- 24:15Speaker 2: You may just think it's a reflection. Then you realize
- 24:21Speaker 2: it's moving. You may think it's just a distant light.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Then you notice it gets closer. You may think it's
- 24:32Speaker 2: another person. Then you'll see she isn't walking. She's hovering.
- 24:41Speaker 2: If the blue lady really isn't searching for a place
- 24:45Speaker 2: where she is buried, perhaps the worst thing you could
- 24:50Speaker 2: do is help her. Perhaps the worst thing you could
- 24:57Speaker 2: do is help her find you. Just maybe she isn't
- 25:06Speaker 2: searching for a a grave anymore. Maybe she just finally
- 25:12Speaker 2: found it. And maybe it isn't just beneath the lake.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Maybe it's whatever next person who sees her is standing.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So the next time you're camping near Full Hollow and
- 25:32Speaker 2: you wake up in the middle of the night and
- 25:35Speaker 2: you hear footsteps outside your tent. Don't unzip the door.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Don't look towards the lake. If you see a faint
- 25:47Speaker 2: blue shining through the canvas, don't move. Don't speak. And
- 25:56Speaker 2: wherever you hear, don't answer when a woman's voice whispers
- 26:03Speaker 2: your name. you find my grave. This has been the
- 26:16Speaker 2: story of the Blue Lady of Full Hollow. A ghost
- 26:22Speaker 2: story born from history of an old settlement. Take a
- 26:27Speaker 2: good covered or a lake that covered is covered from
- 26:33Speaker 2: the past and legend of a woman who may still
- 26:39Speaker 2: Be searching beneath the dark waters of Arizona's White Mountains.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Until next time, keep the lights on, keep your eyes open,
- 26:54Speaker 2: and remember, some places don't forget. Until then, my friends,
- 27:04Speaker 2: stay spooky. Previously. previously.
