- 0:00Thanks for having us on. Christy, we are the Whiskeys, and I
- 0:04just want to say, tweet pride worldwide, Fenny, Yeah all the way.
- 0:12So mate, Yep, we're here. We're talking about our single Hodown.
- 0:17It's coming out, Benny. When's it coming out? Next Friday?
- 0:21Next Friday? Yeah, twenty third, it is indeed, ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:34the suspense is killing me. Thanks for joining us tonight, gentlemen,
- 0:41thanks for having us man, thank you. Well. Hopefully get it right
- 0:45this time, like the Whisky is releasing your debut single, Hodown on February
- 0:50the twenty third. Now, I don't know about you, guys. What
- 0:52I always thought Hodown was a brothel with one sick recer. Yeah right.
- 1:00I've never been to one of those with that, babe. But that's all
- 1:03good. Hodown's a party, brother, Chris, b It's a part ey
- 1:08cool. Well, tell us a bit more about that party made from a
- 1:11musical point of view, yeah, man, So just yeah, I guess
- 1:18that's one way to put it. And then just us doing our thing,
- 1:22everyone there having a good time, motioning, dancing, all types of dancing,
- 1:26just sort of getting all together at one place and forgetting about the world
- 1:32dramas for a bit and just just ripping into the music and having a bloody
- 1:37good old hond in mate. That's that's what's all about this song. Oh
- 1:41so it's not like you're just by slapping like country sort of beat top one,
- 1:46is it? Well? I mean there could be some elements in there,
- 1:53you know. We we've got a bit of a mixture in it in
- 1:56music, so there's definitely some foot tap and leg slap. It happened,
- 2:00that's for sure. Modern. It's a modern It's a modern version of country
- 2:07metal with a bit of rock, a bit of blues. The whole kitten
- 2:10kerboodle there, crispy, awesome, and this is of course your debut song.
- 2:15Guys, So what choose this song to introduce the world to the Whiskies.
- 2:22I think it has everything that the Whiskeys is got, power, aggression,
- 2:29feeling, passion, and the tempo is upbeat. Just I think it's
- 2:35a perfect fit for what we're doing. If you could ask what the Riskies
- 2:38was, I say that'd be a perfect song to say, yeah, welcome,
- 2:40welcome to the holdout. So we would you say it's a good indication
- 2:49of your overall sound or is it just one element. I'd say it's a
- 2:53good indication actually, mate, Yeah, so an element, but it's a
- 2:55good indication. It's not like if you heard that song you'd be like oh,
- 3:00and then you heard the next song you'd be like, oh, that
- 3:02was nothing like your other song. I don't think you feel that at all.
- 3:07Yeah. No, is it just a standalone single for an hour?
- 3:12Is it part of a bigger picture? Yeah? So the plan is to
- 3:17get this one out there and and then I reckon, we'll just slap him
- 3:23with the Holy EP right in the face. Right, I'm taking that EP
- 3:36has already been done or is it yet to be written? Yeah? Mate,
- 3:38Yeah, all done once again by the master Scotty French at Love Street
- 3:45Rumman absolute lord. Yeah, we've been recording with him sort of all my
- 3:52bands. Yeah. I love the sound and yeah, and the shout out
- 3:58to Bocky one Way Boulevard for the film clip that's coming out with it too.
- 4:02So yeah, exciting. And what about the rest of the songs of
- 4:09the EP? Like I thought, I what musical direction do they take?
- 4:13Good question mate. It's a lot of influences in there. It's a bit
- 4:16of Zeppelin, there's a bit of refuse, mused in there with fleshed out
- 4:24with hunk metal, classic rock. It's all in there, mate, because
- 4:30our history as musicians is very varied and wide, and it's sort of all
- 4:34just like bomb as jammed into this one thing. But it works. I
- 4:40don't think it's you know when you're listening to some things and there's this different
- 4:45sounds and vibes going everywhere. I don't think it has that feel at all.
- 4:47I think it's it's it's pretty fluid and makes sense. So check mate,
- 4:55you're just gonna have to check it out. Yeah. Now the Whisky
- 5:01formed in northern New South Wales in twenty nineteen, made like my arithmetics not
- 5:06that good. But that's five years from starting to release in your first song
- 5:12like that seems like a bit of a long time. Yeah, well we
- 5:17mede Josh, you go way way back. I guess the old the punk
- 5:24metal scene on the Gold Coast. Yeah, we'd always cross paths and I
- 5:30guess yeah, I didn't even know if there's nine and I guess it was
- 5:32in we just started gaming, I guess for a bit and then just been
- 5:38doing a whole heap of showers. We do we obviously do like original shows,
- 5:44which we love probably the best. But you know, we rip a
- 5:46couple of the covers here and there at a few pubs, So I guess,
- 5:53yeah, I guess it was just just the process always takes longer than
- 5:56you like. Yeah, just working out what sort of sounds you want to
- 6:01do, And I think the more we jam together, the more inspirations and
- 6:05stuff we've come up with. Well, we did, we did write,
- 6:10we did when we first started gym and we can't. We did write a
- 6:14batch of songs that were real cool, but then we sort of changed the
- 6:16direction of the sound, so that took time, and we weren't in any
- 6:24Russia. It's it's the songs are good, and I think that's the best
- 6:30way sometimes. This had just happened slowly over time, and we're really happy.
- 6:33We played the songs a lot to a lot of crowds and know which
- 6:36ones work you won't throws on me. I had a freeze to. So
- 6:46your sound is it's a blending of blues and rock and reggae, and there's
- 6:48some fund in there as well. So did that come about by trial and
- 6:53error or it just sort of set out to make that sound when we first
- 6:56started it. It's probably just natural and yeah, that's where it started.
- 7:02And then as Josh was just saying, of course we step back into a
- 7:10heavy hardcore roots I guessed, and just a bit of a taste into all
- 7:17those genres and went back to what we know in a bit of a way.
- 7:21I think it's important to know the two guys that you are just a
- 7:26duo as well, Like what's that? What's I'll stop you theresy piece two
- 7:32Beece duo has two acoustic guitars or a bass sorry Chrispy two piece to stand
- 7:40corrected. So you guys are just a two piece, But what's the what's
- 7:47the meaning behind that? Like I said, because you couldn't be playing with
- 7:50other people, or because he's you've got to the two of yours. I
- 7:57just I've been doing a whole bunch of solos as for all and just out
- 8:01experimenting with different pedals and stuff and just run out of bass and all the
- 8:09time, and it just become natural and me and Josh have just never looked
- 8:13back. I've just always jammed the two of us and it's yeah, it's
- 8:18just it's worked really well for us, So no need for a bass play,
- 8:22sorry, guys, but no need for one as luggage. If we've
- 8:33been on a sixty percent of bass players the gold guitarists anyway, I'm not
- 8:41also Christmas, just the two like having the two piece was it something fresh
- 8:50and different than neither of us had sort of done before. And it's as
- 8:54you go along your journey as a musician, like we're both like twenty years
- 9:00at least twenty five years almost into our careers, you search for different ways
- 9:03to express yourself and sometimes or less it's more and then we could we just
- 9:09seen that the two of us just make it work and that that element,
- 9:13not saying that the bass player rad bass player wouldn't make it better, or
- 9:18we're too good for a bass player. It's just not the element we were
- 9:22consciously going for. Hate Let's do a two piece and see if we can
- 9:26make it work. It and it does any holp any holds it down in
- 9:31all elements of vocals, guitar and bass. So shout out to the brothers.
- 9:41I believe you guys have also got some tours and some video clips planned
- 9:46for this year. What's to tell us more about that? Yeah? So
- 9:50it we teamed up with our good Brothers, Bocky One Way Boulevard got a
- 9:56fresh clip that we did. Half of it was recorded Eddie's and then the
- 10:03other half. We love Eddie's grabs by the way, cool on Getner check
- 10:05it out. But ow the new love of a gig is rails and born
- 10:11absolute rip and plays who let's just do our thing? We literally, yeah,
- 10:20we just rip into maybe a Pantera mere telling the cover no one cares,
- 10:22and then we just rip into our songs and it's just the atmosphere there
- 10:26is unreal. So to capture this whole down, whole thing was just perfect.
- 10:31To have Eddies in the rails. Yeah all right, guys, Well
- 10:39that's pretty much all I've got for you and I. But the debut single
- 10:43from the two piece, The Whiskey's Hodown, is out February twenty thirty.
- 10:48Just set your click and make sure you check it out.
