- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Plays get broken down and science gets denied. Off the Bench,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Caine Studio.
- 0:51Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in our number two of O
- 0:55Speaker 3: t B.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Here on this Wednesday morning, Jake Flynn, Aldretete all here
- 1:00Speaker 4: in studio. Of course it's Wednesday at eight in the morning,
- 1:03Speaker 4: so it's going to be doctor Stephen Etheridge time who
- 1:06Speaker 4: joined us every single week. Doc, we always appreciate it.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I hope you're doing well, doing great. How about y'all strong.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Too, quite strong, kind of like Twin's portfolio. You know
- 1:15Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I can hear this week, Doc, So we're doing great.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Both ears all good things I do that.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I do appreciate that. When Doc came in to ask
- 1:25Speaker 4: you about that, he asked you and you go.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Huh, I say say it to my gut, Air like, wait,
- 1:32Speaker 3: can you hear? Did you get that fixed?
- 1:36Speaker 2: I didn't say I can hear, great, but I can.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Hear okay, fair enough, fair enough A lot to get
- 1:44Speaker 4: to with, Doc. We might as well go ahead and
- 1:46Speaker 4: rip the band aid off because I had somebody that
- 1:50Speaker 4: was very popular in sports. Kyle Busch, forty one years old,
- 1:55Speaker 4: did pass away this last week, and at first it
- 1:59Speaker 4: was kind of like, okay, hold up, what happened was it?
- 2:03Speaker 4: You know, you start thinking about things that come out
- 2:05Speaker 4: of nowhere and things that kind of just you know,
- 2:08Speaker 4: those things where you just didn't wake up, and it's like, man,
- 2:11Speaker 4: that's forty one years in an athlete and somebody that
- 2:14Speaker 4: you know, like NASCAR takes care of their bodies, and
- 2:17Speaker 4: everybody got their own personal you know, person that kind
- 2:19Speaker 4: of keeps up with their health and YadA YadA, and
- 2:21Speaker 4: it's like you're just trying to figure out what it
- 2:25Speaker 4: is and what happened. And then once you find out
- 2:27Speaker 4: doc kind of what happened, like it's even more scary
- 2:30Speaker 4: because very easily that could have happened to any of
- 2:34Speaker 4: us as far as you know, like you know, feeling
- 2:36Speaker 4: a someting type of way, and then be like, ah.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You know, it's they'll be okay.
- 2:40Speaker 4: And I was telling the story twenty fourteen, my wife
- 2:43Speaker 4: got kidney stones and then all of a sudden, we
- 2:46Speaker 4: go to the hospital.
- 2:47Speaker 3: She's got pneumonia, and then that pneumonia she.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Turned septic and it was like she was in the
- 2:52Speaker 4: hospital for like four days and it got real scary,
- 2:54Speaker 4: real quick. It's like something that you know, you're like, oh,
- 2:57Speaker 4: kidney stones. Everybody, you know they suck, but everybody, it's
- 3:00Speaker 4: kidney stones. You just go to you know, and you
- 3:01Speaker 4: figure out a plan and and it almost.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Was too late. And it just it can happen like that,
- 3:07Speaker 3: It can happen quickly.
- 3:08Speaker 5: And and you know, these cases are the ones that
- 3:10Speaker 5: are always so sad. You know, it's a it's it's
- 3:13Speaker 5: not what you expect. It's not it's not the norm.
- 3:16Speaker 5: And I've heard y'all talking about earlier, you know that
- 3:18Speaker 5: I think I would agree the ninety nine point nine
- 3:20Speaker 5: nine nine percent of the time, this is not what's
- 3:21Speaker 5: going to happen.
- 3:22Speaker 3: But there are some some strange situations out there there.
- 3:25Speaker 5: There's maybe occasionally going to be some kind of predisposing
- 3:28Speaker 5: risk factors in the patients.
- 3:29Speaker 3: But a lot of times these things are just.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Really fluky, uh, you know, and and and and the
- 3:34Speaker 5: case with Kyle Busch, you know, the the I think
- 3:36Speaker 5: with the official report is that he had an ammonia
- 3:39Speaker 5: with sepsis, and and you know, sepsis is a serious
- 3:41Speaker 5: condition sepsis is when the basically back to you infection
- 3:44Speaker 5: gets in your blood. When that happens, you know, the
- 3:46Speaker 5: mortality rate, depending on which numbers you look at, anywhere
- 3:49Speaker 5: from twenty five to forty percent. Right, you know those
- 3:51Speaker 5: are not small numbers, you know, And we've done a
- 3:54Speaker 5: lot better job in the hospital. I will say about
- 3:56Speaker 5: about how you manage that. There's there's what are called
- 3:58Speaker 5: sepsist protocols. Because it's a serious condition. You've got to
- 4:01Speaker 5: treat it quickly, you gotta treat it rapidly. You got
- 4:03Speaker 5: to get on board with with the plan right out
- 4:05Speaker 5: of the gate. So you have to have a very
- 4:06Speaker 5: high level of suspicion. And in his case, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 5: it sounds like you've been stick a couple of weeks prior,
- 4:11Speaker 5: probably had some kind of a viral infection that started
- 4:13Speaker 5: this off. And that's a lot of times in the young,
- 4:15Speaker 5: healthy population. What you see is you get sick, you
- 4:17Speaker 5: get a virus, you know, flu, something else, something that
- 4:20Speaker 5: typically you're going to feel better. You might feel lousy
- 4:23Speaker 5: for a week or so, you're going to get better,
- 4:24Speaker 5: and then for whatever reason, it makes you more susceptible
- 4:27Speaker 5: to this secondary infection. You get in pneumonia, and probably
- 4:30Speaker 5: in his case, i'd assume a very aggressive organism, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 5: something like a staphlococula like WITHMRSA for example, is one
- 4:36Speaker 5: that we see sometimes post viral, So you have a virus,
- 4:39Speaker 5: you're getting better, and then you get a lot more sick,
- 4:41Speaker 5: and then it becomes sepsis, and then a lot of times,
- 4:44Speaker 5: you know, even with sepsist it's it's really your own
- 4:45Speaker 5: immune system. There's there's a condition called ARDS, which is
- 4:49Speaker 5: a cute respiratory distress zone syndrome that's kind of tied
- 4:52Speaker 5: in with all these things where your lungs just literally
- 4:55Speaker 5: become hyper inflamed because your autoimmune response, your immune response
- 4:59Speaker 5: is too aggressive, and you get fluid in your lungs
- 5:01Speaker 5: and you get inflamation in your lungs and it becomes
- 5:02Speaker 5: difficult de breeze.
- 5:03Speaker 3: So maybe he had a component of that.
- 5:06Speaker 5: You know, sometimes it makes you more susceptible to things
- 5:08Speaker 5: like pulmonary embolisms and things of that nature.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So you know, I don't know all the details here.
- 5:12Speaker 5: We kind of got the very small report, but I
- 5:15Speaker 5: think the takeaway is if you're sick, you know, on
- 5:18Speaker 5: the one hand, you don't have to say overreact on
- 5:20Speaker 5: want people out there to freak out every time you
- 5:21Speaker 5: get a sniffle. But for me, the thing I always
- 5:23Speaker 5: worry about is if somebody's sick, especially if they seem
- 5:26Speaker 5: to be getting better and then all of a sudden
- 5:28Speaker 5: get a lot worse. Yes, that for me, I think
- 5:30Speaker 5: is probably the big that these are the times you
- 5:31Speaker 5: see these autoimmune things. It's not usually the first few days.
- 5:33Speaker 5: It's a week or two later, kind of like in
- 5:35Speaker 5: this case, you know, And I think, and again, that's
- 5:38Speaker 5: not always going to be too soli. So I don't
- 5:39Speaker 5: want to scare everbody out there who gets sick, because
- 5:41Speaker 5: sometimes you get sick, and you know what, you get
- 5:42Speaker 5: sick again, and it's not necessarily going to be one
- 5:44Speaker 5: of these these you know, pneumonia or sepsis or urds
- 5:47Speaker 5: or you know. It kind of hits close to home.
- 5:49Speaker 5: We had a guy that was, you know, my quarterback
- 5:53Speaker 5: in high school who ended up playing at Florida State
- 5:56Speaker 5: with me. He was a Marcus houtson who he was
- 5:59Speaker 5: a year ahead of, and he got a condition two
- 6:01Speaker 5: years ago called it's hard for me to say there's
- 6:03Speaker 5: name as a medical it's hemo phagocitic lympho histiocytosis, which yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 5: you know, flows off the tongue easily. But it's an
- 6:10Speaker 5: autoimmune condition, very rare, very rare, but a very similar situation.
- 6:14Speaker 3: He passed away from it.
- 6:15Speaker 5: This is a guy, you know, state champion of our
- 6:18Speaker 5: high school team played, came in for Winki after Wink
- 6:20Speaker 5: he got injured. Beat Florida in ninety eight, big big
- 6:23Speaker 5: game there, and then you know, young healthy guy kind
- 6:27Speaker 5: of you know, he was in his mid forties and
- 6:28Speaker 5: the same type of thing.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And these things happen.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Doc When like I hear people talk about autoimmune auto
- 6:36Speaker 6: i mune audio, we hear that term a lot. What
- 6:39Speaker 6: does autoimmune really mean?
- 6:41Speaker 5: So, your immune system is designed to fight infection. That's
- 6:44Speaker 5: what the immune system does, and most of the times
- 6:46Speaker 5: does a very good job. Sometimes, either because of some
- 6:49Speaker 5: pre existing genetic condition that you have, maybe because of
- 6:53Speaker 5: some other medical condition, Sometimes something as simple as a virus,
- 6:56Speaker 5: your body starts to attack itself in some way shape
- 6:59Speaker 5: or becomes overly aggressive. Even some of the things you
- 7:02Speaker 5: see a lot of the worst symptoms you see when
- 7:04Speaker 5: you have just the flu is your own immune response.
- 7:07Speaker 3: You know that.
- 7:07Speaker 5: So so when people have a hard time breathing, you
- 7:09Speaker 5: get chest pain. There's a condition called costo chondritis where
- 7:12Speaker 5: you get inflammation of the cartilage. That's an autoimmune condition
- 7:14Speaker 5: where for whatever reason, your immune system overreacts and then
- 7:19Speaker 5: starts to attack either some or multiple parts of your body.
- 7:21Speaker 3: And that's that's what causes sepsis. Sepsis is not usually.
- 7:24Speaker 5: The bacteria itself, it's your immune reaction to that bacteria.
- 7:28Speaker 5: So it's it's it's it. You know, it's a serious
- 7:32Speaker 5: condition in some scenarios. Other times it's something that people
- 7:34Speaker 5: live with their whole life. They have some kind of
- 7:36Speaker 5: a you know, something like lupus, which is a condition
- 7:38Speaker 5: where your body attacks or in things or things like
- 7:40Speaker 5: that your immune system just doesn't respond the way that
- 7:42Speaker 5: it should.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Man, it's really scary of the last couple of weeks
- 7:46Speaker 4: and just Kyle Busch and him passing away. Stephen Garcia,
- 7:51Speaker 4: I texted you doc about this former South Carolina quarterback
- 7:56Speaker 4: stage four cancer. Didn't didn't think anything and did started
- 8:00Speaker 4: to not feel well and you know, put it off
- 8:03Speaker 4: for a couple of weeks, but goes in and he's
- 8:05Speaker 4: got stage four colon cancer and it's just like and
- 8:08Speaker 4: I'm the worst at being just a meathead and I'm
- 8:11Speaker 4: not going to go in and I'm not going to
- 8:13Speaker 4: do that. And na, man, we'll get to that later.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I'll beat it. I'll feel better.
- 8:17Speaker 4: It's like, you know, you know, you don't know, like
- 8:20Speaker 4: if you go in, does it does it save your life?
- 8:22Speaker 3: Maybe it does, maybe it can.
- 8:24Speaker 4: And going and getting it checked out, it's like it's
- 8:26Speaker 4: a pretty good reminder.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And I know, for me, scared me.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Like somebody that's younger than me that I played against
- 8:31Speaker 4: in college is going through stage four cancer right now
- 8:34Speaker 4: and didn't even know he had until he just like
- 8:36Speaker 4: finally his wife, I think like kind of made.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Him go in.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Well, it's it's you know, the cancer screenings have changed
- 8:42Speaker 5: that recently. The recommendations even forgetting your coldon oscby went
- 8:45Speaker 5: from fifty to forty five. Ye you know, you tell
- 8:47Speaker 5: people get your colonoscy at age fifteen. Out's forty five
- 8:49Speaker 5: and in some situations probably should be younger. If you
- 8:52Speaker 5: have a family history of colon cancer, you know, you
- 8:54Speaker 5: need to talk to your doctor because and I don't
- 8:56Speaker 5: know what his his his background was prior to that,
- 8:58Speaker 5: but maybe there was a family history. You know, you're
- 9:00Speaker 5: seeing more of these cases. You know, you know, there's
- 9:02Speaker 5: a lot of theories for why we're seeing especially colon
- 9:04Speaker 5: cancer younger. You know, whether it's stuff in the environment,
- 9:07Speaker 5: stuff in our food stuff and whatever.
- 9:08Speaker 7: You know.
- 9:09Speaker 5: I don't want to do the deep dive there, but
- 9:10Speaker 5: there's there. It's definitely clear that it's it's happening younger. Well,
- 9:13Speaker 5: that's you know, that's that's about the black Panther. I mean,
- 9:15Speaker 5: that was you know, yeah, I mean that's that's that's
- 9:17Speaker 5: you know, you have the superhero there and it's if
- 9:19Speaker 5: you got them and and you know a guy that looks,
- 9:21Speaker 5: you know, just young and healthy and vigorous, and ye,
- 9:23Speaker 5: that's that was his cause of death. And uh, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 5: these things happen, all right, very morbid, I know, great.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But I mean it has.
- 9:33Speaker 4: But seriously, though, like I mean, we have obviously we
- 9:36Speaker 4: have a large male audience, and oftentimes that's who's the
- 9:40Speaker 4: most hard headed. And again I'm raising my hand the
- 9:43Speaker 4: highest because I am the most hard headed when it
- 9:46Speaker 4: comes to you not feeling great and just trying to
- 9:48Speaker 4: beat it mentally and trying not to go get it
- 9:51Speaker 4: checked up on. But like now, these last two cases,
- 9:53Speaker 4: it's like, man, hey Bud, you got five kids.
- 9:55Speaker 3: And hey we're on the other side of forty two.
- 9:58Speaker 3: You're not quite there yet. I'm in forty. I'm not
- 10:01Speaker 3: into my forty you are less than a month.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so you do. You got to pay attention to
- 10:05Speaker 2: your bodies.
- 10:05Speaker 6: You got to pay attention to your symptoms and make
- 10:07Speaker 6: sure you're not out there trying to be a meathead,
- 10:09Speaker 6: like like sometimes Jane and I are going to be
- 10:12Speaker 6: and just trying to say I am just gonna beat it.
- 10:14Speaker 6: In my mind, you can probably beat it a decent
- 10:16Speaker 6: amount of things, but when it comes to your body,
- 10:18Speaker 6: especially at a certain age, definitely don't ignore anything. Don't
- 10:22Speaker 6: ignore the symptoms. You can't always do it by yourself. Doc,
- 10:27Speaker 6: let's turn into a little bit lighter, lighter conversation here. Okay,
- 10:33Speaker 6: So summer programs are getting ready to start. So you
- 10:38Speaker 6: got everybody gone through spring. I'm assuming a lot of
- 10:41Speaker 6: the players have some time off where you got to
- 10:45Speaker 6: go stay work out. But what is your kind of
- 10:48Speaker 6: role throughout the summer. I mean I would assume that
- 10:51Speaker 6: they do. I mean, obviously the job there for the
- 10:53Speaker 6: strength and conditioning staff, the training staff is to keep
- 10:56Speaker 6: everybody as healthy as tiptop shape as you can. But
- 10:58Speaker 6: things do occur, Like what are some of the main
- 11:00Speaker 6: things from the football team that you kind of see
- 11:03Speaker 6: throughout the summer.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Yeah, well, summer is hopefully a chance to get healthy.
- 11:07Speaker 5: For one, So we got guys that have injuries that
- 11:08Speaker 5: are rehabbing, you know, from spring, even from the fall.
- 11:11Speaker 5: You know, guys that have surgeries and things like that.
- 11:13Speaker 5: So part of summer is let's rehab those guys. Part
- 11:15Speaker 5: of summer is doing our physicals. We do an annual physical.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Guys get their physicals every year, and especially for the
- 11:20Speaker 5: incoming athletes. In fact, we had last night up on campus.
- 11:24Speaker 5: We had some of the new incoming freshmen, the ones
- 11:26Speaker 5: who didn't report early. They're they're here now, and so
- 11:28Speaker 5: we did some of the physicals on those guys last night.
- 11:30Speaker 5: And just a side notes, saw a coach O in
- 11:32Speaker 5: the building last night. Yeah, great to see him back
- 11:34Speaker 5: up there. Let's go, you know when we're talking about
- 11:37Speaker 5: that the other day. But just feels right. But but
- 11:40Speaker 5: but you know, we're so we're doing a lot of physicals,
- 11:42Speaker 5: a lot of education. We do a lot of different
- 11:45Speaker 5: educational things like I get with each the teams on campus.
- 11:47Speaker 5: We talk about things like catastrophic injuries and why we
- 11:50Speaker 5: do certain things to do in medicine. You know, why
- 11:52Speaker 5: has heat stroke such an important thing? How do we
- 11:53Speaker 5: handle that? We talk about you know, talking about hey,
- 11:56Speaker 5: reporting your medical conditions, telling them what the warning signs are,
- 11:59Speaker 5: more serious things. So you know, I'll have you know,
- 12:01Speaker 5: powerpoints and lecturers that will.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Do certain days.
- 12:02Speaker 5: They're up there with each the individual teams and coaching
- 12:04Speaker 5: staff and administration and everybody so that they're aware.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So it's a lot of that type of stuff. You know.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Obviously, yeah, they're doing the strength and conditioning stuff, they're
- 12:11Speaker 5: doing the off season workouts, and unfortunately, injuries they are
- 12:14Speaker 5: happen to you know, using more soft tissue type stuff.
- 12:16Speaker 5: So it's not hopefully going to be anything that's going
- 12:18Speaker 5: to be major, but there's always something. And then even
- 12:22Speaker 5: getting sick. We were talking about illness, and that doesn't
- 12:24Speaker 5: stop either.
- 12:25Speaker 6: I do want to ask something just for our listeners
- 12:27Speaker 6: out there that have children that will be playing football
- 12:30Speaker 6: this year and going into training camps, maybe for the
- 12:32Speaker 6: first time, maybe they're playing tackle, whatever it is, and
- 12:35Speaker 6: you know, at some point they are going to be outside.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Now, I know it's easy.
- 12:39Speaker 3: To just send them to drink my high dot com.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Yeah they're going to hydra. No, I'm not doing that.
- 12:43Speaker 6: I'm asking you, like, where is it important, especially for
- 12:49Speaker 6: football players that have to go into a training camp
- 12:51Speaker 6: of any age, to spend a lot of their time
- 12:55Speaker 6: training outside leading up to that point.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really important.
- 12:58Speaker 8: You know.
- 12:58Speaker 5: We call it a climatization, so so basically, a you
- 13:02Speaker 5: don't want to go from doing nothing outside to doing
- 13:04Speaker 5: full workouts everything in the middle of the day. But
- 13:07Speaker 5: but your body has to adjust, especially in a place
- 13:09Speaker 5: like Louisiana, you have to adjust.
- 13:11Speaker 3: You have to get used to this climate. It doesn't
- 13:13Speaker 3: happen overnight. You know.
- 13:14Speaker 5: I think about the first day that I go out
- 13:16Speaker 5: and it's eighty five and I'm sweating like crazy. And
- 13:19Speaker 5: then you know, a month later, I would I would
- 13:20Speaker 5: kill for a day that's eighty five. It feels like
- 13:22Speaker 5: like winter. You know, your body does adjust, your body
- 13:24Speaker 5: does change, and especially with athletes. So I think, A, yes,
- 13:27Speaker 5: it's important to do it, especially if you're playing an
- 13:29Speaker 5: outdoor sport like football.
- 13:31Speaker 3: But also remember you got to do it gradually. You know,
- 13:32Speaker 3: we we there's NCAA.
- 13:34Speaker 5: You know, they have recommendations or requirements that we do
- 13:36Speaker 5: in a climatization period for reasons. You know, usually it's
- 13:38Speaker 5: about a ten to fourteen day period. So that's why,
- 13:41Speaker 5: you know, the first day of camp, you're not out
- 13:42Speaker 5: there doing three hours in full pads anymore. You're going
- 13:45Speaker 5: lighter and you know, and I think that there's a
- 13:47Speaker 5: medical reason for that.
- 13:48Speaker 3: MafA did MafA, I kind of like getting callous myself.
- 13:53Speaker 3: There's there's something we've talked about that.
- 13:55Speaker 5: And look, I'm not completely against that mindset either.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I think my head mentality still goes that way as well.
- 14:01Speaker 5: But also we got to be safe, so you got
- 14:03Speaker 5: to find that balance for sure.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Yeah, you got to be safe too, like this time
- 14:06Speaker 4: of year and not just football, but thinking about like
- 14:09Speaker 4: in baseball. Mm hm, I guess it's funny like we
- 14:12Speaker 4: played two weekends to go whatever, and you know what
- 14:16Speaker 4: you did at the beginning of the year, Like as
- 14:18Speaker 4: far as your catcher, you go out there, you can
- 14:20Speaker 4: catch five innings or whatever. It's like all of a sudden,
- 14:23Speaker 4: you're catching two innings. He takes the helmet off and
- 14:25Speaker 4: it's drenched French. It's just like looks like you went
- 14:28Speaker 4: and jumped in a swimming pool with the gear on.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Like that's like.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Catching in particular, but everybody out there and baseball, like
- 14:34Speaker 5: a lot of the infields are turf too.
- 14:36Speaker 4: That's just about like you're sitting on that infield, you're
- 14:38Speaker 4: playing shortstop, you're getting baked.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Out there on theos out there.
- 14:42Speaker 5: The turf is always a lot harder, even not just
- 14:44Speaker 5: on the surface. You know, we've done it. I think
- 14:45Speaker 5: I mentioned this at one point, but we've done it.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Where we take you know, the tripod thermometer that SAIDs
- 14:49Speaker 5: you know, up at about head height and it's usually
- 14:51Speaker 5: ten to fifteen degrees hotter at five six feet above
- 14:54Speaker 5: believe you know, than it is if you just move
- 14:56Speaker 5: it over five feet and put it on the grass.
- 14:58Speaker 5: So it's it's it's not you know, it's not just
- 15:00Speaker 5: your feet to get scolded out there.
- 15:02Speaker 6: I remember Jack telling us sometimes like that turf, like
- 15:04Speaker 6: when we were out it's like one thirty five, Like, yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 6: that's yeah, it's one hundred outside.
- 15:12Speaker 3: But where y'all are at one thirty it's cooking fun.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah good, No, it's great, No, it's good.
- 15:18Speaker 6: So if your kids are complaining when you kick him
- 15:21Speaker 6: out of the house to go play outside and they're
- 15:23Speaker 6: like it's hot outside. Just know it's for their own good,
- 15:26Speaker 6: it's for their safety. Got to kick him out there. Yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 6: lock the door. Maybe don't like the door, I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 6: cause they want to come in. But then you just
- 15:37Speaker 6: kick him back out again.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, yeah, charge we get a glass of water,
- 15:42Speaker 4: get back, and also don't kick him.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Well you said it.
- 15:46Speaker 6: I mean there's a figure of speech, but it literally,
- 15:50Speaker 6: So we'll move all right, let's move on before you
- 15:53Speaker 6: get yourself in more trouble.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I wanted to ask you about Patrick Mahomes because he
- 15:57Speaker 4: was out at Ots yesterday.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Now, he didn't like, you know, go crazy.
- 16:00Speaker 4: He had a huge brace on, but I mean he
- 16:02Speaker 4: was going through drills and he was, you know, going
- 16:05Speaker 4: through handoffs and he was going through dropbacks.
- 16:07Speaker 3: He tore his a CL and his l CL in December.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Like that to me was fascinating that he was even
- 16:14Speaker 4: out there and again like it wasn't full speed. He's
- 16:17Speaker 4: being very cautious. But where we've come from where we
- 16:22Speaker 4: used to be, I mean a CL l CL that
- 16:25Speaker 4: was like a year. Yeah, you're out, you're done for
- 16:27Speaker 4: he did it in December. We're sitting here at the
- 16:29Speaker 4: end of May and he's participating in OTAs.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Yeah, a multi ligament injury, so you know, a cl
- 16:34Speaker 5: is bad enough, but when you have a second ligament
- 16:36Speaker 5: injury with that, those are usually historically to your point,
- 16:39Speaker 5: those are big injuries, and there's still big injuries. To
- 16:41Speaker 5: be fair, the rehabbing recovery is advanced, I think, I think,
- 16:45Speaker 5: and I think also people you understand you can't expect
- 16:47Speaker 5: this all the time. You know, you're your guy goes down,
- 16:49Speaker 5: Like why isn't he back in five months on the field,
- 16:51Speaker 5: like Patrick mahomes a, what position they're playing? Be Every
- 16:53Speaker 5: injury is different, but there are a lot of advances.
- 16:55Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of things I think we
- 16:57Speaker 5: you know, we've kind of dabted on some of them
- 16:58Speaker 5: that we can maybe do a deeper dive down on
- 17:00Speaker 5: the road, but newer techniques that are maybe helping with recovery.
- 17:03Speaker 5: There's all kinds of stuff out there. Some of it
- 17:05Speaker 5: probably works, some of it probably doesn't, just to be fair,
- 17:08Speaker 5: but these are things that I think, you know, we
- 17:10Speaker 5: realize that, hey, let's get him out there moving faster,
- 17:13Speaker 5: let's work on that range of motion. Let's get him stronger.
- 17:15Speaker 5: And again, obviously to your point, these were controlled settings.
- 17:18Speaker 5: He would not be cleared to play in a game
- 17:19Speaker 5: right now. But let's let's do him out there in
- 17:22Speaker 5: a controlled motion where he knows what he's doing. Start
- 17:25Speaker 5: getting that motion back, start building that strength back, and
- 17:27Speaker 5: you know, I think you're going to see more and
- 17:29Speaker 5: more of that, and we already are seeing more of it.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Typically.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Yeah, Doc, I'm curious medicine has come so far. Let's
- 17:36Speaker 6: put on let's look at thirty years in the future.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Where do you think medicine can go? Like, is there like,
- 17:47Speaker 6: is there a ceiling to where it can go from recovery?
- 17:49Speaker 6: Are we going to get to like Star Wars War
- 17:51Speaker 6: where they're just like putting a new arm on you
- 17:53Speaker 6: and you go like, where is it gone?
- 17:55Speaker 2: Like where does it cap?
- 17:57Speaker 6: And how fast can like in twenty years someone tears
- 18:00Speaker 6: in acl or rips and achilles, It's like, oh, he's
- 18:03Speaker 6: back in two months, three months?
- 18:04Speaker 2: Is that we?
- 18:05Speaker 3: Like?
- 18:05Speaker 2: What is the ceiling to medicine?
- 18:07Speaker 5: I think historically we've always been limited by the framework
- 18:11Speaker 5: of the human body. You know, you can only recover
- 18:12Speaker 5: something so fast, you only grow over your bone back
- 18:14Speaker 5: so fast. Now the interesting thing is there are some
- 18:17Speaker 5: new things out there that are maybe helping us get
- 18:19Speaker 5: a little bit faster. None of them are proven yet,
- 18:20Speaker 5: but but yeah, and then you know, it's funny. We
- 18:22Speaker 5: talked about it right before I came in off the
- 18:24Speaker 5: air about how you know, AI and all this stuff
- 18:26Speaker 5: is kind of Look, there's the technology that we have
- 18:30Speaker 5: now is going to affect medicine in the future for sure.
- 18:33Speaker 5: I used to say, the ceiling is definitely there. I
- 18:36Speaker 5: don't even know, if you want me to be honest,
- 18:37Speaker 5: I don't know what our ceiling is. I now that
- 18:39Speaker 5: the idea of some of these you know, Star Wars
- 18:41Speaker 5: type things to me, and I make a joke all
- 18:43Speaker 5: the time.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I pat to become like, well, there's already fake news
- 18:46Speaker 2: and fake kills.
- 18:47Speaker 5: It's like what I'm excited to see, you know, just
- 18:49Speaker 5: in my life was going to be.
- 18:50Speaker 3: But it's funny. I make the joke like, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 3: my patients will come in to have their MRI.
- 18:53Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, the m RI fixed, you know, I'm like,
- 18:55Speaker 5: one of these days it's going to I joke around
- 18:57Speaker 5: about it now I'm like, well, you know, one day.
- 18:58Speaker 5: It might you go send this tube and you come
- 18:59Speaker 5: out of it and you're you're walking normal or something.
- 19:02Speaker 5: You know, we'll see, uh.
- 19:03Speaker 6: You see repo man, I haven't seen that one. They
- 19:06Speaker 6: have like the metal like lungs and hearts and stuff.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Then you don't pay your bills, they come and take it.
- 19:12Speaker 3: They come and take it. Yeah, yeah, that'd be terrible,
- 19:15Speaker 3: be off.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Gotta pay your bills though, you know it makes you
- 19:17Speaker 2: put it on.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I okay, right, don't forget. Don't forget that one. All right?
- 19:22Speaker 4: There he is Doctor Stephen Athwidge again joins us every
- 19:25Speaker 4: single Wednesday morning at eight o'clock.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Doc, we always appreciate it, Sir, appreciate it, and I'd
- 19:29Speaker 3: be remiss.
- 19:29Speaker 5: I gotta do one thing that I promised my wife
- 19:31Speaker 5: I would do so at forty seven, trying to find
- 19:33Speaker 5: a way to stay young and talking about these things.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Our decision that was not a decision but kind of
- 19:39Speaker 5: a whoops as we're having a kid, and I told her,
- 19:41Speaker 5: I get shout out, I appreciate it.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Do you know how long I've been holding that in
- 19:49Speaker 4: Because I found that out.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I didn't want to say congrat.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I appreciate it, so I was jealous of Taylor over here.
- 19:55Speaker 5: So we got a Reet James coming.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Later this summer.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Oh, I mean it's September, so yeah, we're great, start
- 20:02Speaker 5: football season.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Let's go. Thanks.
- 20:04Speaker 2: But did you say the name Rett?
- 20:06Speaker 3: James said? I Oldrett. Rett's gonna be joining the team here.
- 20:13Speaker 3: That's awesome. It is always a blessing.
- 20:15Speaker 4: It's I mean, you know, I was out of the
- 20:18Speaker 4: game for seven years, dove right back in and uh,
- 20:20Speaker 4: you know, it's kind of fun get a little a
- 20:22Speaker 4: little youthful jolt.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it was sixteen for me, so I wasn't
- 20:26Speaker 3: really but hey, we couldn't be more happy. It's it's
- 20:30Speaker 3: also blessing.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Absolutely, congratulations to you, to the missus to cold he's
- 20:35Speaker 4: gonna he's gonna have he's gonna enjoy that.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Be older.
- 20:37Speaker 4: But watching my sixteen year old interact with my two
- 20:41Speaker 4: year old is awesome. I mean, he is great. Whether
- 20:43Speaker 4: they're they're buds, you know, it's funny. You never know
- 20:45Speaker 4: how that's gonna work out, but that's awesome. So congratulations.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Hopefully it goes into the family profession, being a medical doctor.
- 20:52Speaker 4: I think you meant being a football player floor state
- 20:55Speaker 4: either way, got options, got options, so many.
- 20:58Speaker 3: All right, we'll be back more. O T Live from
- 21:00Speaker 3: the Raisin Kine Studio.

- 23:06Speaker 3: That would.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Let's go document, Let's go that baby.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I've been known to dabble in that.
- 23:22Speaker 4: And you know I'm forty one, so maybe although I
- 23:26Speaker 4: always say this, you know I don't make roster decisions.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I'm the head coach. Yeah, like I'm not the GM
- 23:32Speaker 3: of this team.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Are you the head coach?
- 23:34Speaker 3: I'm the head coach, associate head coach.
- 23:38Speaker 2: There you go, there you go.
- 23:41Speaker 11: Make some decisions, assistant to head coach.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Yeah, you give your opinion, no doubt, you give your opinion.
- 23:47Speaker 6: It's sometimes a little bit more more passionately than others.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, sometimes people listen. Most times they don't, you know, people.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Hey man, I haven't seen you in a while. Hey, look,
- 24:00Speaker 6: I'm not in charge of the social calendar.
- 24:04Speaker 4: What happened R and B Wednesday? Uh, We'll have an
- 24:07Speaker 4: R and B day this week. We just alliteration felt
- 24:11Speaker 4: good with wall on Wednesday.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Just this week.
- 24:14Speaker 2: It could have been Morgan Monday.
- 24:16Speaker 4: If you ever listened to the show, you know where
- 24:17Speaker 4: it could have been. But we weren't here Monday.
- 24:20Speaker 3: It was a holiday. We're celebrating America. Taylor.
- 24:22Speaker 2: I'll still have the songs next Monday.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Uh yeah, but we want to do it this We'll
- 24:26Speaker 3: be available, but we want to do it this week.
- 24:28Speaker 3: We do what just have a theme video?
- 24:34Speaker 4: We could have done Morgan Monday. I was like, well,
- 24:37Speaker 4: we weren't here. We were celebrated Marlor. It had been
- 24:40Speaker 4: Marler Morgan Monday.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Anyways, so look, I like half the reason I show
- 24:48Speaker 4: up here is for the songs that Launde just spends
- 24:50Speaker 4: before we come in a segment.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So chill have you Have you ever actually spun a record?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Alandr has like on vinyl?
- 25:00Speaker 4: Yeah, didn't I see you DJ in at the family Bar.
- 25:03Speaker 12: I did do that, but they had the DJ booth
- 25:07Speaker 12: and I'm known to go up to the DJ booth
- 25:09Speaker 12: and not only request songs, but get on.
- 25:12Speaker 4: My It's like, in the best way possible, because you
- 25:15Speaker 4: and I have similar music taste.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I bet you're the worst.
- 25:19Speaker 13: I have their phone numbers.
- 25:21Speaker 3: I have the DJ walk into the ball.
- 25:24Speaker 13: I hate to see me coming.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Well, there goes my playlist.
- 25:27Speaker 13: Yeah, I have their phone numbers and I text them my.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Taking request, taking the ox cord.
- 25:32Speaker 13: Yeah, so I'm just texting me us. This isn't my phone.
- 25:38Speaker 3: You gotta text, I gotta text this.
- 25:41Speaker 13: Rejoin music is awful. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 25:45Speaker 2: What is up with? What was up with the mort
- 25:47Speaker 2: Like there's a lot of hate.
- 25:48Speaker 3: It's either one or the other. You either really like him?
- 25:51Speaker 6: Are you really just like a great flavored drink or
- 25:54Speaker 6: something like that, or like cilantro. That's what I've learned
- 26:01Speaker 6: with like flavors and trying to like test flavors out
- 26:04Speaker 6: for for my high It's like there's a couple out
- 26:06Speaker 6: there that people either passionately hate it or passionately love it.
- 26:10Speaker 6: And I guess that's the same with Morgan Wallen.
- 26:13Speaker 11: I don't passionately love or hate Morgan Wallen.
- 26:18Speaker 2: I will say I love country music.
- 26:20Speaker 11: I'm not a big Morgan Wallin fan, okay, but I
- 26:22Speaker 11: don't have anything against him.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Is awesome. I love it great, like you like more
- 26:28Speaker 3: like m. I don't know what is it called.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Morgan's a little too poppy for me.
- 26:34Speaker 3: He's poppy you like and Eric Eric Church is like.
- 26:41Speaker 2: That's pretty poppy, not not like not like Morgan.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Okay, there's a word for it. There's a there's a.
- 26:50Speaker 6: I would definitely say that there's a handful of songs
- 26:52Speaker 6: that are very poppy.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He's got something that aren't poppy sounding for me.
- 26:56Speaker 11: When a Morgan Wallin song like hits with me, I
- 26:59Speaker 11: love it and like for me, it's either a hit
- 27:01Speaker 11: or a.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Miss with him.
- 27:03Speaker 13: So that's what we're saying.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't dislike him. I really liked when he
- 27:08Speaker 2: walked off the stage at.
- 27:09Speaker 14: Saturday Night Live and he was like, take me to
- 27:11Speaker 14: God's Country.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Everybody was making fun of him for that, like they
- 27:16Speaker 7: were doing memes.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I liked it. I should post a people down there
- 27:20Speaker 2: in New York City.
- 27:21Speaker 7: Why what did I think of this? We should have
- 27:24Speaker 7: posted a picture of like on ESPN's page or otbs
- 27:27Speaker 7: of Tiger Stadium and like give me back to God's Country.
- 27:31Speaker 7: I'm usually good about that stuff. I dropped the ball
- 27:33Speaker 7: in that one.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I dropped them ball that was quite a while ago.
- 27:39Speaker 2: There's one.
- 27:40Speaker 13: Yeah, I dropped the ball. You're going in, I'm going
- 27:45Speaker 13: three sheets to the winds.
- 27:49Speaker 3: You set me up. I had to spike it.
- 27:51Speaker 6: I mean if you if you hate Morgan Wallin, it
- 27:53Speaker 6: also means you don't respect or hate the music taste
- 27:58Speaker 6: of a lot of people. You probably liked the dude
- 28:00Speaker 6: the walkout with him. It's true a lot of people
- 28:04Speaker 6: walk the walkout Saban.
- 28:07Speaker 14: Who do you think would do it if he did
- 28:08Speaker 14: a show at Death Valley? You, I mean, Lane's the
- 28:14Speaker 14: obvious answers. Yeah, give me somebody better than that.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Tm O t B. Yeah, in full uniform like Peyton
- 28:20Speaker 3: Manning was dresses.
- 28:23Speaker 13: Give me a not basic answer.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Wa, Wayne would be good?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Wayne, I was gonna say that would be good. It
- 28:29Speaker 3: would be obvious to Woozy would be good.
- 28:32Speaker 13: It would be maybe athlete.
- 28:33Speaker 14: I'm thinking an athlete because it's usually like Peyton Manning.
- 28:38Speaker 13: Would be Yeah, Shack.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Jack would be great, just the size alone him walking Joe.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Joe would be great.
- 28:44Speaker 13: I don't know if he would but great.
- 28:47Speaker 6: It would be tough to get Joe, like depending on
- 28:50Speaker 6: the time of year. Yeah, tough shock just come on
- 28:52Speaker 6: and friends already.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Truth, big true, big truth, big true. Was it Broadway
- 29:04Speaker 3: Tyler Shuck?
- 29:05Speaker 12: Adams said, Oh, Tyler Shuck would would do it like
- 29:09Speaker 12: and that would be Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 13: I guess if he was at.
- 29:13Speaker 3: The Dome like was it?
- 29:15Speaker 6: Was he in Vegas recently when like he nobody showed up,
- 29:20Speaker 6: nobody was able to do it?
- 29:21Speaker 13: He said, I don't remember that he.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Was doing you walk out with him one time, probably,
- 29:28Speaker 3: but he was doing it.
- 29:29Speaker 4: He's gonna show in Vegas and I guess people canceled,
- 29:32Speaker 4: mm hmmm.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Jerks, we do need to have.
- 29:34Speaker 4: A Tyler Shuck discussion because some of the some of
- 29:38Speaker 4: the disrespect out.
- 29:39Speaker 3: There by a lot of people in the card game.
- 29:43Speaker 4: Not even that I'm talking about, like people talking second
- 29:45Speaker 4: year quarterbacks not thinking that Tyler shucks above some of
- 29:50Speaker 4: the players.
- 29:52Speaker 3: It's it's it's a head scratcher.
- 29:56Speaker 2: It's ignorant a little bit.
- 29:57Speaker 3: It is, And I don't get it. Yeah, is it?
- 30:01Speaker 4: Is it because he's in New Orleans? Is it because
- 30:04Speaker 4: he was a second round pick?
- 30:05Speaker 6: I think what I've heard a lot of people say,
- 30:08Speaker 6: is the age thing a little bit? That's it's really stupid, right,
- 30:15Speaker 6: it's really dumb. And why it's dumb in the market size. Yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 6: why the age stuff's dumb because Okay, he's twenty six. Now,
- 30:23Speaker 6: if he plays the rest of his contract out, he'll
- 30:26Speaker 6: be thirty, he'll sign another deal six years, probably be
- 30:29Speaker 6: thirty six.
- 30:30Speaker 4: And still have years to play. Right, Matthew Stafford's thirty nine.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Let's just Rogers just went yeah, but yeah, for sure,
- 30:38Speaker 4: But Matthew Stafford just went MVP.
- 30:41Speaker 3: He's thirty nine.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 11: I never understood because it's like you could have your
- 30:43Speaker 11: starting quarterback decade and he's thirty six years old.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Quarterback's not a position where like that should worry you,
- 30:49Speaker 4: like if it was a running back.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah, let's don't do that. Twenty six, he's got four
- 30:53Speaker 3: years last.
- 30:53Speaker 6: I mean, he's not like twenty one like Lamar Jackson
- 30:56Speaker 6: was or twenty two or whatever. Like I get all that,
- 30:59Speaker 6: But my god, if you could have a franchise quarterback
- 31:03Speaker 6: for a decade, signed two contracts with him and he
- 31:08Speaker 6: retires at thirty five, which would probably be young for
- 31:11Speaker 6: a very well established starter starting quarterback, come on like,
- 31:15Speaker 6: he what, what did you not see in the nine games?
- 31:20Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 31:21Speaker 2: I get it wasn't three games at the end of
- 31:24Speaker 2: the year. I mean it was.
- 31:25Speaker 6: It was at least an extended period of time, enough
- 31:27Speaker 6: time to where he could have had some ye ebbs
- 31:33Speaker 6: and flows, some ups and downs, and he didn't didn't really,
- 31:36Speaker 6: I mean, the team wasn't very good, right, but they
- 31:38Speaker 6: won games.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Let's do this when we come back, because I do
- 31:42Speaker 4: I do want to have that. I want to stand
- 31:44Speaker 4: up for Tyler Shuck. And look, we were watching Spencer
- 31:50Speaker 4: Rattler played a good level, didn't have guys step up
- 31:53Speaker 4: around him, and the play around him didn't get elevated,
- 31:56Speaker 4: and we were like, see what you have with Spencer Rattler.
- 32:00Speaker 3: But the Saints knew what they hadn't Tyler Shuck.
- 32:02Speaker 4: And in that moment we certainly admitted, Hey, okay, hand up,
- 32:05Speaker 4: we're wrong there. Because Tyler Schuck elevated everyone around him.
- 32:09Speaker 4: That was the skill set that if you're not there
- 32:11Speaker 4: every day you don't know well he had it because
- 32:14Speaker 4: even though Spencer was doing some good things, Tyler Shuck
- 32:17Speaker 4: made the Uber drivers around him better and that's something
- 32:20Speaker 4: that if you're not there every single day.
- 32:22Speaker 3: You don't know, and so the Saints knew what they
- 32:24Speaker 3: had there.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Let's have the conversation of second year quarterbacks when we
- 32:27Speaker 4: come back here.

- 35:46Speaker 6: Well you're doing some serious research over there, Well we
- 35:51Speaker 6: want to have it. Were you looking at Tyler Shuck's
- 35:53Speaker 6: They don't do wonder lick what they do?
- 35:55Speaker 13: Now I told you what it was called SI something
- 36:02Speaker 13: like that.
- 36:03Speaker 3: All right, this is good enough to go off of.
- 36:07Speaker 4: I was looking because like we've given you the stats
- 36:10Speaker 4: of what Tyler Shuck has been, and we've given you
- 36:12Speaker 4: the projections of peopould have played this amount of games
- 36:14Speaker 4: he was on. Uh, I think forty two sorry he
- 36:20Speaker 4: was on his way to four thousand plus yards.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's forty seven hundred.
- 36:23Speaker 6: I believe Nichol said like that either way, So like
- 36:27Speaker 6: we can give you stats whatever, but I'm also looking
- 36:29Speaker 6: at like the Pro Football Focus grades, and look, some
- 36:33Speaker 6: people don't follow Pro Football Focus, some do.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I like it.
- 36:37Speaker 4: I think oftentimes my eyes tell me a story, then
- 36:40Speaker 4: I go back to check the grade to see if
- 36:42Speaker 4: my eyes were telling me the same thing.
- 36:44Speaker 3: And it's got some really ninety percent of the time
- 36:46Speaker 3: it does, got some.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Really good tools.
- 36:48Speaker 6: The grading is subjective, right, and you can argue, you
- 36:51Speaker 6: know whatever, but got some good tools here.
- 36:53Speaker 4: So I'm just looking at Okay, let's see what they
- 36:55Speaker 4: said about a couple of young quarterbacks. And I got
- 36:58Speaker 4: through and four other ones and we can continue maybe
- 37:02Speaker 4: some of the research, but okay, Like JJ McCarthy was
- 37:05Speaker 4: sixty one point eight last year. He's a second year player,
- 37:08Speaker 4: but kind of a first year player because of injuries.
- 37:10Speaker 3: And different things.
- 37:10Speaker 2: These are greades.
- 37:11Speaker 3: These are grades.
- 37:12Speaker 4: Jackson Dart sixty seven point nine, all Right cam Ward
- 37:16Speaker 4: fifty eight point four, Shadohor Sanders forty four point one
- 37:22Speaker 4: Tyler Shuck.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Seventy five.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so the best by a grade by a pretty
- 37:32Speaker 4: good margin as well.
- 37:33Speaker 3: So it's not just the stats and not just.
- 37:35Speaker 4: You know, us being in Louisiana talking about the Saints quarterback.
- 37:38Speaker 4: It's not because obviously he's a friend of the show.
- 37:41Speaker 4: It's none of that. It's no, you have football knowledge.
- 37:46Speaker 4: You turn on tape and you're like, oh, that was
- 37:49Speaker 4: that was really good. Who's he throwing to?
- 37:52Speaker 3: Oh? I don't know him either. Some of that too.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Now, I think cam Ward's gonna be much better. I
- 37:58Speaker 4: think you saw him take strides and unlike the other quarterbacks,
- 38:02Speaker 4: camp Ward had to be thrown to the Wolves.
- 38:04Speaker 3: He started from day.
- 38:05Speaker 6: One, and camp Ward was, it's hard to say, probably
- 38:09Speaker 6: on a worse team than Tyler Shuck was.
- 38:11Speaker 3: They're both bad.
- 38:12Speaker 4: They were both bad, but like they're both bad, there's
- 38:14Speaker 4: a reason why were they're both picking in the top ten.
- 38:17Speaker 6: And now let me let me follow up on the grades.
- 38:20Speaker 6: It paints a clear picture that Tyler Schuck played well
- 38:25Speaker 6: and played better than any other rookie quarterback in his class,
- 38:29Speaker 6: and that's that can't that can't really be argued on
- 38:33Speaker 6: the time that, Yeah, he didn't start as many games
- 38:36Speaker 6: as as some of the others. A little bit of
- 38:39Speaker 6: an indictment on this PFF grades that JJ McCarthy was
- 38:42Speaker 6: third highest.
- 38:44Speaker 3: It's a little bit of indict He.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Didn't have the sample size though, Like he only played
- 38:47Speaker 4: a handful of games. It didn't have a lot of
- 38:52Speaker 4: Like he didn't have a lot of attempts either, So
- 38:54Speaker 4: like some of the usage is going to be down.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but like from what the eyeball test, I know
- 38:59Speaker 3: he was.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I thought Cam wore would be higher, but I'm not
- 39:02Speaker 4: surprised that should or was lower.
- 39:05Speaker 3: JJ's great.
- 39:06Speaker 4: I thought would be somewhere like in the fifty eight
- 39:08Speaker 4: range like Cam's was. He JJ wouldn't Wrick, No, I didn't.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I know he was a second year player, but he
- 39:17Speaker 4: went through injury, so kind of first year type of stuff.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I said that you go with that.
- 39:22Speaker 3: You didn't. No, I didn't listen to that. I know.
- 39:27Speaker 3: I've been with you long enough. I understand the point is.
- 39:32Speaker 4: And look, I've seen a lot of different podcasts, I've
- 39:34Speaker 4: seen a lot of different articles that are talking about
- 39:37Speaker 4: second year quarterbacks, and the conversation always starts with dark.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Then it goes to Sanders reward and then it goes
- 39:46Speaker 4: to Tyler Shuck And the question I have is why,
- 39:50Speaker 4: And that's not like even look, our guys Jarvis Landry
- 39:53Speaker 4: and Leonard Fournette do a podcast and they were talking
- 39:56Speaker 4: about it and they kind of had schuck at the
- 39:58Speaker 4: bottom yep. And my man Jarvis didn't mess up the
- 40:04Speaker 4: pronunciation of Tyler's name as well. But like it's a
- 40:08Speaker 4: lot of people, I mean, it's people with like really
- 40:10Speaker 4: high football IQ yep. So I just I guess I
- 40:12Speaker 4: don't understand the disconnect of what he did last year
- 40:16Speaker 4: with who he did it with and where he's going
- 40:18Speaker 4: to go compared to these other quarterbacks.
- 40:20Speaker 6: Even though what he did last year was great, it's
- 40:22Speaker 6: still the Saints are still irrelevant at the time.
- 40:25Speaker 3: That he did it, right, all of these teams are irrelevant.
- 40:27Speaker 6: I get that, but you couple that being a second
- 40:30Speaker 6: round pick, not a first round didn't have a one
- 40:32Speaker 6: by his name, and then the other and all I
- 40:36Speaker 6: can say is cam Ward the number one overall pick,
- 40:39Speaker 6: so he's obviously going to get a lot of attention.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Jackson Dart New York.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Giants, and he was exciting in prime time, which Tyler
- 40:46Speaker 6: Schuck did not get a chance to do He did
- 40:48Speaker 6: not get a chance to be exciting in prime time
- 40:52Speaker 6: and then shador he's got a famous dad.
- 40:55Speaker 2: That's pretty much it.
- 40:56Speaker 6: And he's not going to be the starter, which is
- 41:01Speaker 6: so it's wild to think, like we're not talking, we
- 41:04Speaker 6: get so wrapped into the narrative that you hear, and
- 41:08Speaker 6: that's what like out of side, out of mind. Well,
- 41:10Speaker 6: Tyler Schuck's been out of sight. He shouldn't have been,
- 41:13Speaker 6: but he has been out of sight, so he is
- 41:15Speaker 6: out of mind and it's crazy. And that's why it's like,
- 41:17Speaker 6: and I keep bringing this up and it's you know,
- 41:20Speaker 6: it's kind of like I bring it up in a
- 41:22Speaker 6: little bit of jest, but like in the card world
- 41:25Speaker 6: is a reflection of what people actually think about him
- 41:28Speaker 6: outside of Louisiana, and they just don't think about him.
- 41:32Speaker 6: They said, yeah, he's good, it's a rookie quarterback. Like cool,
- 41:35Speaker 6: I'm gonna go collect those cards just just in case. Well, like,
- 41:37Speaker 6: what do you mean just in case? He was the
- 41:39Speaker 6: best quarterback of the class last year and I don't
- 41:43Speaker 6: think it was that close. So is he going to
- 41:50Speaker 6: be a franchise guy?
- 41:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 41:52Speaker 6: I heard Nick talk about, you know, sophomore slump. In
- 41:56Speaker 6: my experience, and what I see, for the most part
- 41:59Speaker 6: is I see the biggest jump for quarterbacks in the
- 42:01Speaker 6: NFL comes in between year one and year two. That
- 42:05Speaker 6: is where you're going to make the biggest strides in
- 42:08Speaker 6: your career as a quarterback in the National Football League.
- 42:12Speaker 6: You're one to year two because now you're not new.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Now you get it. You get the speed, you get
- 42:17Speaker 6: the attention to detail you have to have, You get
- 42:20Speaker 6: now that it's a job and not a sport that
- 42:23Speaker 6: you play. You get now that, oh, the defense knows
- 42:28Speaker 6: is just as smart as I am. Even though defense
- 42:31Speaker 6: is a bunch of dumb dumbs in the NFL, they're
- 42:34Speaker 6: pretty smart. So, like, you start getting that, and you
- 42:36Speaker 6: start elevating, and you start seeing the things that other
- 42:39Speaker 6: quarterbacks do. You start speaking fluently in NFL language, you
- 42:43Speaker 6: start and you understand your offense a whole heck of
- 42:47Speaker 6: a lot better. So these are the big jumps. I
- 42:49Speaker 6: don't sophomore slump, like, what is that like? Unless you're
- 42:53Speaker 6: like you're getting a brand new coach and you just
- 42:55Speaker 6: stink and you had a lucky first year.
- 42:58Speaker 3: But that's not the case. Watch the tape. It wasn't lucky,
- 43:01Speaker 3: not at all.
- 43:02Speaker 4: And if you're a Saints fan, you should be excited
- 43:05Speaker 4: about not just Tyler Shuck continuing to develop.
- 43:07Speaker 3: You should be excited that they got him actual weapons.
- 43:10Speaker 4: They got him another receiver to fight to be the
- 43:13Speaker 4: number one receiver on this team. They got him a
- 43:15Speaker 4: third round tight end, they signed a tight end in
- 43:17Speaker 4: free agency, and they also got a chan to be
- 43:20Speaker 4: the running back to take.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Some pressure off a young quarterback.
- 43:24Speaker 4: And so I don't know about other shows, but here
- 43:26Speaker 4: on this show, we are certainly going to highlight how
- 43:29Speaker 4: well Tyler Shuck played in his rookie season and look
- 43:32Speaker 4: forward to seeing what he does in his second season.
- 43:35Speaker 4: All Right, we'll step away more OTB when we come
- 43:38Speaker 4: back here live from the Raisin Kain Studio.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Off the Bench Locked in on LSU Football twenty four
- 43:54Speaker 1: to seven. You're listening to Off the Bench.
- 43:58Speaker 9: Don't know where you at, No where you man, don't
- 44:01Speaker 9: know nothing.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Bath that boy you're into, don't feel bad for you,
- 44:06Speaker 3: but I feel bad.
- 44:07Speaker 8: For him and all the hell you gonna be putting
- 44:10Speaker 8: him through private Tell him we're a burnt out flaying private,
- 44:15Speaker 8: tell him that.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I ain't been all right.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Welcome back in O t B. To apologize for the
- 44:21Speaker 4: short segment. But when you're talking Tyler Shuck and trying a.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Little bit, you're a little bit a little bit a
- 44:26Speaker 3: little bit.
- 44:26Speaker 12: I'm gonna blame it on him, though, because he's the
- 44:28Speaker 12: one that kept going.
- 44:29Speaker 3: He did.
- 44:29Speaker 13: He got it was forty seven, and I was like,
- 44:33Speaker 13: we're not We're not that.
- 44:34Speaker 2: It's like I just started cooking.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, I.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Had really had an opinion all morning. Finally got one.
- 44:41Speaker 13: It's not true.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Let me cook kind of true.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Besides, what does the fox say?
- 44:45Speaker 2: He's big or not big? Math Flint?
- 44:49Speaker 4: It was that, and then Tyler Shuck got him, bringing
- 44:51Speaker 4: him boring things. You have the ability to bring up
- 44:54Speaker 4: whatever you want to. You're thinking about that.
- 44:58Speaker 2: I didn't not until now.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 45:01Speaker 2: It's it's been a year. Just figure that out.
- 45:05Speaker 3: I mean, I know your face is still hurting from
- 45:06Speaker 3: talking on somebody.
- 45:08Speaker 12: Nioki messaged me the other day. Your anniversary is coming up.
- 45:11Speaker 13: It is June.
- 45:12Speaker 6: Second second, I think I decided to maybe wear a tuxedo.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Please do, please please wear a.
- 45:20Speaker 13: Taxiedo do a tuxedo shirt. So this is you're serious,
- 45:24Speaker 13: but you're also here to party.
- 45:25Speaker 3: That's true. Tuxedo, just the tops with the athletic shorts.
- 45:30Speaker 13: Crush Old Kirk kurb Street.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Form Relshue, baseball player Cole Freeman. When we come back, our.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Three off the bench, all right.
