- 1:20Speaker 1: for another hour. Here to Meristar. All right, Stewart Mandel
- 1:23Speaker 1: when the Athletic has released his SEC picks, I find
- 1:26Speaker 1: this really interesting. Let's kind of calmb through this and
- 1:29Speaker 1: he gives a pretty good breakdown of the SEC. He
- 1:33Speaker 1: has Texas finishing uh number one in the SEC at
- 1:37Speaker 1: eight and one in the league. He breaks it down
- 1:38Speaker 1: even down to the league record ten and two overall
- 1:42Speaker 1: for the Texas Longhorns and eight and one for the league.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He has a two way tie per second. He has
- 1:50Speaker 1: Oklahoma and Georgia both at seven and two in the
- 1:53Speaker 1: league and ten and two on the season, so that
- 1:55Speaker 1: make three SEC teams at ten and two. LSU at
- 1:59Speaker 1: number on four at six and three in the league
- 2:02Speaker 1: nine and three overall. He has two more teams at
- 2:06Speaker 1: nine and three and six and three tied with LSU
- 2:09Speaker 1: Alabama being a nine and three team and Florida a
- 2:13Speaker 1: nine in three team. He has Ole Miss at five
- 2:16Speaker 1: and four in the league eight and four, and he's
- 2:18Speaker 1: got one two three teams at eight and four. Five
- 2:21Speaker 1: and four, got ole Miss, Texas A and M in Missouri.
- 2:25Speaker 1: He's got Tennessee and South Carolina both at seven and five,
- 2:30Speaker 1: both at four and five in the league. He's got
- 2:33Speaker 1: two six and six teams, Vanderbilt and Auburn three and
- 2:37Speaker 1: six in the league, one four and eight team in
- 2:41Speaker 1: Kentucky and two and seven in the league. He's got
- 2:45Speaker 1: Mississippi State at three and nine and one and eight
- 2:48Speaker 1: in the league. And then he's got Arkansas at o
- 2:51Speaker 1: and nine, two and ten in the league. Now, several
- 2:54Speaker 1: thoughts on this before I get to his other notes
- 2:56Speaker 1: on this. This is very very very likely scenario because
- 3:02Speaker 1: just what we talked about, with a nine game season,
- 3:05Speaker 1: you got three ten and twos and three nine and
- 3:08Speaker 1: threes and three eight and fours. That's nine teams. That's
- 3:13Speaker 1: over half the league. And that's probably the way this
- 3:16Speaker 1: is now. The teams may not play out all like this.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean, Ole miss could be with a nine and
- 3:20Speaker 1: three team, Georgia could be a nine and three team,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Texas could be a nine and three team. Texas and
- 3:26Speaker 1: him could be a ten and two team. I think
- 3:28Speaker 1: it's that razor thin. Some other thoughts on this. If
- 3:32Speaker 1: you bring it back to this state of Missippi States
- 3:34Speaker 1: three and nine and one in eight in the league,
- 3:38Speaker 1: not good. Not good. Now that's where most people are
- 3:41Speaker 1: gonna project them. I think State's more of that, possibly
- 3:45Speaker 1: six and sixteen, but at nine and three, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: three and nine, and then Arkansas at two and ten. Again,
- 3:53Speaker 1: that's just a it's a hard nut to crack there
- 3:56Speaker 1: and fadeable and again, I don't pretend to understand, like
- 3:58Speaker 1: I was telling Bill, under the interworkings of Arkansas athletics.
- 4:03Speaker 1: But with Arkansas, you know, they put a ton of
- 4:06Speaker 1: money into basketball, a ton of money into baseball. They've
- 4:08Speaker 1: got money. I don't know that if they're putting the
- 4:10Speaker 1: money into football or if it's just not working out.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I have no idea. He has Texas over Oklahoma in
- 4:14Speaker 1: the SEC Championship. He's got four teams in the playoff
- 4:18Speaker 1: that would be Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, and Georgia. Says Texas
- 4:23Speaker 1: loses to Ohio State again talking about next here in
- 4:26Speaker 1: two weeks, everyone freaks out that the Longhorns go on
- 4:29Speaker 1: to win the SEC. Steve Sarkisian's team is the most
- 4:31Speaker 1: talented in the conference after adding high end transfers like
- 4:35Speaker 1: NC State running back Hollywood Smothers all one wide receiver
- 4:38Speaker 1: Cam Coleman. But the top of the Big ten is
- 4:40Speaker 1: better than the top of the SEC. Number two, No
- 4:45Speaker 1: one finishes the regular season better than ten and two,
- 4:48Speaker 1: It's very possible, says. The reality of the SEC is
- 4:51Speaker 1: that no one is as dominant as the twenty tens
- 4:55Speaker 1: at Alabama or early twenty twenties like Georgia. But the
- 4:59Speaker 1: conference run about runs about ten deep with teams that
- 5:02Speaker 1: can beat any of the others. And now everyone is
- 5:05Speaker 1: playing an extra game against each other. And again I
- 5:09Speaker 1: could see that. I mean again, the win totals that
- 5:12Speaker 1: are out there for all the SEC teams, the highest
- 5:15Speaker 1: that I have seen is nine and three. Urge, you
- 5:17Speaker 1: mean nine wins. Maybe Georgia in some books get ten wins.
- 5:23Speaker 1: As far as a win total or over under as
- 5:25Speaker 1: they call it, or a lot of people call it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Number three. LSU's Langkiffin goes nine to three but makes
- 5:30Speaker 1: the playoffs. Half the league is taking an extra loss,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but the league's fourth best team could still have a
- 5:36Speaker 1: top twelve resume. With LSU schedule, it could theoretically lose
- 5:40Speaker 1: to two ranked teams and a third five hundred team
- 5:43Speaker 1: and still beat three preseason top tens. Number four, he says,
- 5:48Speaker 1: Florida surge is under John Summer. All the twenty twenty
- 5:50Speaker 1: five Gators had no business going four and eight, but
- 5:53Speaker 1: quarterback DJ Lagway's regression and youth at key positions doomed
- 5:57Speaker 1: Billion Napier's last last team summer. All managed to retain
- 6:01Speaker 1: butting stars like running back Jaden Ball, wide receiver Dallas Wilson,
- 6:05Speaker 1: linebacker Miles Graham, and edge rusher edged Jaden Woods. Number five,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Ole Miss returns to earth. Pete Golding did a fantastic
- 6:15Speaker 1: job leading the Rebels to the brink of the national
- 6:17Speaker 1: championship game. But it helped. But it helped. He still
- 6:22Speaker 1: had Kivin's staff. Trinidad chamblis number one in the athletics.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Quarterback Tiers got an extra year of eligibility, but without
- 6:28Speaker 1: offensive coordator Charlie Weis Junior and others, twenty twenty six
- 6:31Speaker 1: may be bumpier. Now again, that's just an opinion on
- 6:37Speaker 1: Old Miss. We don't know how, and we'll all find
- 6:39Speaker 1: out together. It's the beautiful thing of football, right we
- 6:42Speaker 1: find all this out together. We don't know how the
- 6:45Speaker 1: coordinators are going to adapt and adjust. In Oxford, you
- 6:48Speaker 1: knew what you had with Charlie Weiss Junior. You knew
- 6:50Speaker 1: what you had with a lot of these guys. But
- 6:52Speaker 1: you don't know with this group. Number six, Vanderbilt also
- 6:57Speaker 1: returns to Earth, but doesn't crumble. Heisman runner up Diego
- 7:01Speaker 1: Pavia willed the Commodores to ten wins last year. He
- 7:05Speaker 1: may prove to be irreplaceable, but Clarklee signed five star
- 7:08Speaker 1: true freshman Jared Curtis, who is his successor and has
- 7:13Speaker 1: built a foundation that prevents the return to the three
- 7:15Speaker 1: and nine in two and ten days. Number seven, Tennessee
- 7:19Speaker 1: fans get mad at Josh Hipel the balls, and we're
- 7:22Speaker 1: looking at Stuart Mandel's athletic piece. On his breakdown of
- 7:26Speaker 1: the SEC a composite breakdown of the conference, the balls
- 7:29Speaker 1: head coach got a pass for last year slip to
- 7:32Speaker 1: eight and five, knowing Nico Iamailiava bailed on him in
- 7:35Speaker 1: the spring. But look, Nico iam Aliaba was it. Can
- 7:39Speaker 1: we stop giving this kid credit? He was very pedestrian
- 7:43Speaker 1: when he was at Tennessee. N im Aliava was not
- 7:46Speaker 1: the reason they slipped last year. Goes on to say,
- 7:49Speaker 1: but he's going to be trotting out an inexperienced quarterback,
- 7:51Speaker 1: whether it's Phaseyon Brandon or George McIntyre, to go with
- 7:56Speaker 1: a rebuilding defense. If the balls take another step back.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Hypel will go into twenty twenty seven on a hot seat.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Number eight South Carolina is Lenora Seller's rebounds, always a
- 8:06Speaker 1: South Carolina story, always positive. I don't get it. The
- 8:11Speaker 1: first hype last offseason proved premature. Are the first round
- 8:16Speaker 1: hype on Sellers proved premature as Sellers regressed in twenty
- 8:19Speaker 1: twenty five, thanks in part to an offensive line that
- 8:21Speaker 1: allowed forty three sacks forty three that's unbelievable, forty three
- 8:25Speaker 1: sacks and a misfit offensive coordinator. Higher in Mike Shula
- 8:29Speaker 1: didn't understand that either. Shane Beamer upgraded his staff with
- 8:32Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator Kendall Brows and offensive line coach Ray Clements.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Number nine Misssippi State's Camaro Taylor will be the nation's
- 8:40Speaker 1: best quarterback on a bad team. That's a great boy.
- 8:43Speaker 1: That will tell you what. Missippi State fans will not
- 8:45Speaker 1: be happy if that happens. In his first start as
- 8:49Speaker 1: a freshman, Taylor ran for one hundred and seventy three yards,
- 8:51Speaker 1: but his team lost thirty eight to nineteen to Ole
- 8:53Speaker 1: miss It could be a lot more of that as
- 8:55Speaker 1: Jeff Levy's team, which finished five and eight last season
- 8:57Speaker 1: faces a particularly unforgiving schedule, and again there's so many
- 9:03Speaker 1: questions to Mississippi State, and then if they do falter
- 9:07Speaker 1: and go three and nine or four and eight, there's
- 9:10Speaker 1: a lot of quick and more so than just Jeff
- 9:12Speaker 1: Levy because of the transfer portal. If you know, if
- 9:16Speaker 1: Jeff Levy was to be let go, what happens to
- 9:19Speaker 1: Camaro Taylor? Does Mississippi State keep him? Does he end
- 9:23Speaker 1: up in the portal, ended up at a bigger school?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Or does Camaro Taylor have the Trump card and say, hey, look,
- 9:30Speaker 1: if you get rid of Jeff Leby, you get rid
- 9:31Speaker 1: of me. So maybe they keep Jeff Levey. I don't know.
- 9:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of questions surrounding struggle. We've got more
- 9:36Speaker 1: of this from Stuart Mandel on the SEC, but we've
- 9:38Speaker 1: got to take a time out. We're brought to you
- 9:39Speaker 1: by Jenny King. They are the King of clean. Gotta
- 9:42Speaker 1: Jenny kingcleans dot com. Let them help you in your
- 9:44Speaker 1: church or place of worship, office buildings, medical office fronts
- 9:47Speaker 1: and more. Keep it clean and keep it simple this
- 9:49Speaker 1: summer and into the fall. Gotta Jenny kingcleans dot com more.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Coming away in a bit it's time just get back
- 9:55Speaker 1: in the game.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And the afternoon fry that's entertained on the fish in
- 9:59Speaker 2: the specialized is in the Mississippi Sports you love. Now
- 10:02Speaker 2: we're talking live and look on the ESB on one

- 11:08Speaker 1: if you're ami school, it's week one. It's week zero
- 11:10Speaker 1: on the state because uh not everybody's playing. It's just
- 11:13Speaker 1: like next weekend's week zero. You got some college football
- 11:15Speaker 1: teams that are playing. And let me look right here
- 11:20Speaker 1: and see I was trying to get over to Chris
- 11:25Speaker 1: Brooks a site. By the way, you can still get
- 11:27Speaker 1: the the digital release of the Mississippi GRIDIRN and you
- 11:31Speaker 1: can get paid copy and let me look at some
- 11:38Speaker 1: of these real quick if I can pull these up.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So you got several games tomorrow night, and the m
- 11:43Speaker 1: AI ask you got a k Acadia Acadiana Acadia, A
- 11:49Speaker 1: C A D I A N A, Louisiana Acadia, maybe
- 11:53Speaker 1: East Ranking. Uh. You've also got Bowling Green taken on
- 11:56Speaker 1: Brookhaven Academy, Briarfield Academy, taken on Deer Creek. Try Camp
- 12:00Speaker 1: Only hosts Kenton Academy tomorrow night. You've got Central Homes
- 12:03Speaker 1: at Delta Street Academy, Delta Streets, Plural Academy, Christ Covenant
- 12:08Speaker 1: at Sylvia Bay Academy, Capiah Academy at Madison Saint Joe.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You've got the Soto School at Calhoun Academy, also Lamar
- 12:19Speaker 1: School at Winston Academy. You've got Leak Academy at Simpson Academy.
- 12:25Speaker 1: MRA travels to Ravenwood, Tennessee, tomorrow night, or that should
- 12:28Speaker 1: be a big one. Magnolia Heights North Delta, Jackson Academy
- 12:31Speaker 1: host Oak Forest Academy. Oak Hill Academy is at Manchester
- 12:37Speaker 1: Park Lane is at Gulf Shores, Alabama. You've got Portals
- 12:40Speaker 1: Chapel at Clavern Academy, and let's see here Cathedrals Hope
- 12:46Speaker 1: hosting Saint Aloysius Jackson Prepp Versus Ums right Heartfield Academy
- 12:51Speaker 1: taken on Washington School, and you've got Wilson Christian at
- 12:55Speaker 1: ben Ford's Christian School. So that's from Brandon Shields who
- 13:01Speaker 1: said he got seventeen of twenty three picks right last
- 13:04Speaker 1: week out of seventy four total games. Interesting, No Shields,
- 13:09Speaker 1: that's twenty three games. You've got seventeen out of twenty three,
- 13:13Speaker 1: he said, seventeen seventy four total games. No Shields's math
- 13:18Speaker 1: is off. Anyway, that's your slate for tomorrow night in
- 13:21Speaker 1: high school football. All right, let me get back to
- 13:23Speaker 1: this athletic piece on the SEC number ten for Stuart Mandel.
- 13:30Speaker 1: The SEC's national title drought hits a fourth year. Texas
- 13:34Speaker 1: is probably the league's best hope to end its skid,
- 13:37Speaker 1: though don't put it past LSU with all its star
- 13:41Speaker 1: all star portal class, all star portal class. But it's
- 13:44Speaker 1: not like either is obviously better than the likes of Indiana,
- 13:48Speaker 1: Ohio State, Oregon, Miami and Unter Dame plus as you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: the SEC contenders will be gassed. Now that's a joke.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That's a playoff Lar Rutlinch who said that the SEC
- 14:00Speaker 1: plays a nine game schedule and it always gases them.
- 14:03Speaker 1: But they haven't played a nine game schedule, so that's
- 14:05Speaker 1: just a play on that. Let's see here. Yep, that's
- 14:09Speaker 1: it for Stuart Mandel as far as his SEC picks.
- 14:14Speaker 1: ESPN has listed their bottom ten teams going into the
- 14:17Speaker 1: season for college football. Number one again is UMass the
- 14:22Speaker 1: minute Men. They continue. I mean again, I don't know
- 14:26Speaker 1: what they do or not, but I guess you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: if you're going to Minnesota to play football, I mean,
- 14:31Speaker 1: that's just not a hot bed for college football, right,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I mean, obviously you're talking about Massachusetts. You're up there
- 14:37Speaker 1: with the Packers or no Packers, the Patriots, the Red Sox,
- 14:41Speaker 1: all the pro teams. It's just not built for college sports.
- 14:46Speaker 1: And you mass constantly, as they call them, you mess
- 14:49Speaker 1: m e ss SAM Houston State number two, the Bear
- 14:55Speaker 1: Kats and that's Kats. And I like the way they
- 14:58Speaker 1: did this on ESPN. They about every C word with
- 15:01Speaker 1: a K, like continue with a K, their quest with
- 15:04Speaker 1: a K for success as a you know FCS team,
- 15:08Speaker 1: the crash into the party. Sam Houston State at number two.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Georgia State at number three, Not Georgia Southern because we
- 15:16Speaker 1: can mess that up, but Georgia State. Excuse me checking
- 15:19Speaker 1: in at number three, three on the bottom ten list
- 15:23Speaker 1: and looking at number four on this list because number
- 15:31Speaker 1: five is really funny. Number four Charles Charlotte, the one
- 15:34Speaker 1: and eleven ers Charlotte just again another program that's just
- 15:38Speaker 1: not really good. At number five. He put Jayden, they
- 15:40Speaker 1: put Jaden Daniels at number five. The Jade and Daniels
- 15:42Speaker 1: jokes just continue to run crazy, and there's reports out
- 15:48Speaker 1: that his teammates at Washington have clowned him about this
- 15:51Speaker 1: in the locker room, as they should. By the way,
- 15:53Speaker 1: this whole thing is just stupid. Number six Sacramento State
- 15:58Speaker 1: says the big winners and the Hornets move to quote
- 16:01Speaker 1: hashtag maction frequent flyer miles. Geographically speaking, their closest conference
- 16:07Speaker 1: rival is Western Michigan, which is two and seventy one
- 16:10Speaker 1: miles away. Yeah, they wanted in, and again this is
- 16:14Speaker 1: one of those programs I'm gonna be interested to see
- 16:16Speaker 1: because they have put a ton of money into Sacramento
- 16:21Speaker 1: State out in Sacramento, California, number seven, Northern Illinois number eight,
- 16:26Speaker 1: Louisiana Louisiana Monroe who plays Mississippi State coming up next weekend.
- 16:32Speaker 1: And that's a program that is annually just not good.
- 16:35Speaker 1: U TIP at number nine and MTSU at number ten.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And just think about this. If your program is not
- 16:44Speaker 1: very good, you could always be one of these guys.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You could be a U MASS fan. You could be
- 16:50Speaker 1: a UTEP fan. You know. UTEP is one of those
- 16:53Speaker 1: places that just they never win. It's out in the
- 16:56Speaker 1: middle of nowhere Texas ol Paso. They never win. And
- 17:01Speaker 1: with all the Texas time and I've never been to UTIP,
- 17:04Speaker 1: it may be a dump. I have no idea. It
- 17:06Speaker 1: may be beautiful. Again, I have no idea. I know
- 17:09Speaker 1: at one point they had a really at least you know,
- 17:11Speaker 1: picturesque stadium that they played in. But all the Texas
- 17:16Speaker 1: talent out there, they can't seem to put it together
- 17:19Speaker 1: out at UTIP six or one eight eight five, three
- 17:21Speaker 1: seven seven six. That is the cowbo Maloney's text line.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Let's see here. Let me pull over something else too
- 17:30Speaker 1: from ESPN, and let's see ESPN has decided to name
- 17:38Speaker 1: arch enemies all time college football arch enemies for every
- 17:43Speaker 1: Power conference team, and we're talking about all time arch enemies.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I find it interesting for the Alabama Crimson Tide. You
- 17:49Speaker 1: would say arch enemies would be Auburn, and you would
- 17:51Speaker 1: be correct, but they list Cam Newton as the arch
- 17:55Speaker 1: enemy for the Alabama Crimson Tide said. Newton played only
- 17:57Speaker 1: one season at Auburn, but he left the last thing
- 18:00Speaker 1: legacy by leading the Tigers to an undefeated season and
- 18:02Speaker 1: winning the Heisman Trophy in twenty ten. Many Alabama fans
- 18:05Speaker 1: still believe Newton shouldn't have been eligible to play for
- 18:08Speaker 1: the Tigers after his father allegedly shopped him around to
- 18:12Speaker 1: schools out of junior college. Auburn ruled Newton ineligible following
- 18:19Speaker 1: NCAA investigation, but he was reinstated less than twenty four
- 18:22Speaker 1: hours later. And a lot of you remember this. I
- 18:24Speaker 1: remember that day that weekend, and I think they played
- 18:27Speaker 1: Georgia that day in the regular season, I think, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: it was all over CBS. He had come back, he
- 18:33Speaker 1: was eligible, He comes out and they won another ballgame,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and that season's Iron Bowl against Alabama, Newton led the
- 18:40Speaker 1: Tigers to the greatest comeback in program the program's one
- 18:43Speaker 1: hundred and seventeen year history. Auburn Trauil twenty four to
- 18:46Speaker 1: nothing in the second quarter before Newton passed for three
- 18:49Speaker 1: touchdowns and ran for another in a stunning twenty eight
- 18:51Speaker 1: to twenty seven victory known as the Camback. And that's
- 18:55Speaker 1: by Mark slay Ball, ESPN Arkansas's grand mimisson. This is
- 19:00Speaker 1: the Texas Longhorns, and of course there's a big history
- 19:04Speaker 1: behind Texas and Arkansas. Auburn's arch nemesis listed by ESPN
- 19:09Speaker 1: is Harvey Updike. That's funny. About a month after Cam
- 19:13Speaker 1: Newton led Auburn to a twenty two to nineteen victory
- 19:15Speaker 1: over Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game, following the
- 19:18Speaker 1: twenty ten season al from Dadeville called into the Paul
- 19:22Speaker 1: Fine Bomb Show. If you remember this nationally syndicated, of course,
- 19:25Speaker 1: radio show, you can hear a lot of that here.
- 19:28Speaker 1: The caller ended up being Harvey Updike, a retired Texas
- 19:32Speaker 1: state trooper. He later pleaded guilty to applying herbicide to
- 19:36Speaker 1: the trees and in the on Tumor's Corner. It was
- 19:39Speaker 1: sentenced to seventy days in jail an eight hundred thousand
- 19:42Speaker 1: dollars fine or eight one hundred thousand dollars in restitution.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Updyke had a son named Bear in honor of legendary
- 19:49Speaker 1: Alabama coach Paul Bear Bryant, and a daughter named Crimson.
- 19:53Speaker 1: He later told Fine Bomb quote, I just had too
- 19:56Speaker 1: much Bama in me. Updyke passed away. He was seventy one.

- 21:16Speaker 1: land with timber, hunting land, farmland, let Dwayne help you.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Six or one eight three two three zero seventy five.
- 21:22Speaker 1: That's six or one eight three two three zero seven five.
- 21:27Speaker 1: All right, So Mississippi Valley State, the Delta Devils mv
- 21:32Speaker 1: isssue all time record two forty nine, three point thirty
- 21:36Speaker 1: three and ten. It's a winning percentage of forty three
- 21:39Speaker 1: percent first season nineteen fifty three. Of course it'll be
- 21:44Speaker 1: a Mississippi not a lot of success. The Devils have
- 21:48Speaker 1: never won the SWACK Championship, one of only two current
- 21:52Speaker 1: SWACK teams that have never appeared in the Swack Football Championship.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Their sole LEFCS playoff appearance came in nineteen eighty four
- 21:58Speaker 1: first round loss to Louis in a TECH sixty six
- 22:02Speaker 1: to nineteen. Of course, that was the high point of
- 22:05Speaker 1: the program Archie Cooley. It went nine to two, six
- 22:09Speaker 1: to one in the SWAG featured an explosive offense averaging
- 22:11Speaker 1: fifty seven points a game. Six hundred and twenty eight
- 22:14Speaker 1: total points. Willie Totten was the quarterback. Jerry Rice was
- 22:17Speaker 1: a wide receiver. Rice at multiple NCAA records that year,
- 22:22Speaker 1: including one hundred and twelve receptions one hundred and twelve
- 22:25Speaker 1: receptions This is nineteen eighty four, by the way, eighteen
- 22:28Speaker 1: hundred and forty five yards twenty seven touchdown catches. So
- 22:33Speaker 1: that's that's the crescendo of the program until now. Mississippi
- 22:39Speaker 1: Valley State is home of the biggest defensive lineman in
- 22:44Speaker 1: the country this year. David Jones, the biggest player in
- 22:49Speaker 1: college football monstrous defensive lineman effectually known as Big Dave,
- 22:54Speaker 1: will play for Mississippi Valley this year. He weighs more
- 22:58Speaker 1: than four hundred pounds. There have been heavier college football
- 23:02Speaker 1: players in the past, but not at Jones height. Who
- 23:07Speaker 1: is David Jones native of Peachtree or excuse me, a
- 23:12Speaker 1: native of the Peach State, Georgia. David Big Dave Jones
- 23:15Speaker 1: played at Hesba Baja and I probably just Bahad that
- 23:22Speaker 1: high school near Augusta, Georgia. Played offensive guard and defensive
- 23:26Speaker 1: tackle for the Rebels and was named a first team
- 23:29Speaker 1: All Region player his senior year in twenty twenty one.
- 23:31Speaker 1: On offense, he led the team in pancake blocks while
- 23:35Speaker 1: helping pave the way for a rushing attack that compiled
- 23:37Speaker 1: almost fifteen hundred yards of rushing. Defensive side, he was
- 23:40Speaker 1: third on the team with sixty two tackles fifteen tackles
- 23:43Speaker 1: for lost in two sacks. Jones decided to pass on
- 23:46Speaker 1: multiple Division three offers and an NAI offer out of
- 23:49Speaker 1: high school to go to junior college. Gordon State College
- 23:53Speaker 1: brought him in as a defensive lineman at three hundred
- 23:56Speaker 1: and seventy five pounds. He actually played for the club
- 24:00Speaker 1: team in twenty twenty two and twenty three. Although Jones
- 24:02Speaker 1: had multiple offers to transfer as a junior, they ended
- 24:06Speaker 1: up getting pulled and some of the coaches retired. That
- 24:10Speaker 1: led him to go back to Georgia and working nine
- 24:13Speaker 1: to five job at UPS, But the grind didn't stop.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Every quote, every Sunday he emailed every coach starting from Georgia, Florida, Alabama,
- 24:25Speaker 1: every coach in Mississippi. Jones told HBCU game day all
- 24:30Speaker 1: the way from D one to D three, and they
- 24:32Speaker 1: did that consistently every day. Levingston College assistant coach Mark
- 24:37Speaker 1: Williams responded to Jones email within thirty minutes. They set
- 24:41Speaker 1: up a campus visit there shortly after. The rest is history.
- 24:45Speaker 1: David Jones played in twenty four and twenty five for
- 24:47Speaker 1: the Blue Bears in North Carolina. He's the heaviest player
- 24:50Speaker 1: in college football. Levingston led listed David Jones's six two
- 24:56Speaker 1: three fifty and used him only on the defensive side
- 24:59Speaker 1: of the b Opposing coaches game plan against him, shifted
- 25:02Speaker 1: protections towards him and tried to avoid his side. Didn't matter.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Jones was a disruptor on the If the offense did
- 25:10Speaker 1: not double team him, he was going to make the play.
- 25:12Speaker 1: If the offense did double team, the linebackers were free.
- 25:16Speaker 1: The Blue Bears also gave gave him the ball on offense,
- 25:20Speaker 1: much like the old refrigerator perio if you remember when
- 25:22Speaker 1: Chicago did that. Jones finished with three rushes for a
- 25:25Speaker 1: touchdown in twenty twenty five against Virginia Lynchburg, Elizabeth City State,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and Lincoln and now in twenty twenty six, he has
- 25:37Speaker 1: transferred out of the transfer portal of Mississippi Valley State.
- 25:41Speaker 1: The Delta Devils list him on the roster at a
- 25:43Speaker 1: whopping four hundred and twenty five pounds, So he's put
- 25:45Speaker 1: on fifty pounds, which makes him the heaviest player in
- 25:50Speaker 1: Division Division one. As they said, he is a quote
- 25:53Speaker 1: absolute unit. And if you've seen a picture of this man,
- 25:56Speaker 1: he is a large fella. And Jones does not weigh
- 26:01Speaker 1: as much as let's see, does not weigh as much
- 26:05Speaker 1: as Desmond Watson. But Watson was listed as six to six.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Big Dave is listed as six foot. Because of the
- 26:12Speaker 1: current NCAA rules on junior college eligibility, Jones may have
- 26:16Speaker 1: two additional years of eligibility, which would you know, put
- 26:20Speaker 1: him for two more years at Mississippi Valley State. So
- 26:22Speaker 1: he is listed as the biggest player in Division one
- 26:26Speaker 1: football six foot, four hundred and twenty five pounds right there,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and it'll be in Mississippi at Mississippi Valley State. Six
- 26:35Speaker 1: one eight eight five three seven seven six. I got
- 26:37Speaker 1: a couple more notes that we did not get to
- 26:40Speaker 1: earlier in the show. Former Seahawks, This was earlier. Today
- 26:45Speaker 1: they keep coming. Former Seahawks and SEMU running back TJ.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Harden has entered the transfer portal. Harden, who's a part
- 26:51Speaker 1: of Louisiana lawsuit rushed for almost twenty five hundred yards
- 26:54Speaker 1: and twenty one touchdowns at SMU and UCLA. And we
- 27:00Speaker 1: told you earlier Southern miss looking to get a new name,
- 27:02Speaker 1: Renaissance Bank for their football stadium. Also, there's renderings for
- 27:07Speaker 1: a new proposed baseball upgrade upgrades at Pete Taylor Park.
- 27:11Speaker 1: These renderings are out there courtesy of Big gold Nation,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and it looks really good. I mean, obviously Pete Taylor
- 27:17Speaker 1: Park baseball that is the catalyst right now at Southern Miss,
- 27:20Speaker 1: as it should be, and looks really really good. Good
- 27:25Speaker 1: a proposed addition to Pete Taylor Park as far as
- 27:28Speaker 1: seating new architecture from the walk inside Big Golden Eagle
- 27:34Speaker 1: in the middle of a fountain slash garden area. This
- 27:38Speaker 1: looks really really good. So Southern Miss looking for upgrades
- 27:41Speaker 1: there as well as the NFL is not happy with
- 27:46Speaker 1: Nielsen changing its methodology courtesy of Front Office Sports, and
- 27:51Speaker 1: I want to get into this and why this is
- 27:53Speaker 1: important as the NFL prepares to begin the new season.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It's frustration with Nielsen and the ratings are growing. Of
- 27:59Speaker 1: course Nielsen, that's when you hear one hundred and seventeen
- 28:01Speaker 1: million people watch the Super Bowl that comes from the
- 28:04Speaker 1: Nielsen ratings. Nilson is changing its methodology for the upcoming
- 28:08Speaker 1: twenty six twenty seven television season, but the NFL is
- 28:12Speaker 1: anything but happy about it. The league's tells front Off
- 28:16Speaker 1: of Sports that the forthcoming shift, led by an enhancement
- 28:20Speaker 1: inview are in in co viewing measurement takes effect, so
- 28:26Speaker 1: and the NFL say it's over rushed. So basically what's
- 28:29Speaker 1: happening is Nielsen is changing the way they monitor television
- 28:33Speaker 1: viewing and the NFL is not happy about it. And
- 28:37Speaker 1: the NFL's kind of mom on, you know, hey, we're
- 28:39Speaker 1: just not happy about it. But the big big kebash
- 28:42Speaker 1: here is if they're not happy about it, then they
- 28:44Speaker 1: looked at they've looked at it and said, hey, this
- 28:46Speaker 1: could this could really hurt our numbers, which could also
- 28:50Speaker 1: indirectly hurt our advertising model. It could hurt all of it.
- 28:54Speaker 1: So the NFL is at war with Nielsen now right
- 28:58Speaker 1: here before the start of the twenty twenty six NFL season. Also, uh,
- 29:05Speaker 1: real quickly if you miss this, Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler, excuse me?
- 29:08Speaker 1: Could move past Tiger Woods this weekend on the all
- 29:11Speaker 1: time PGA Tour earnings list as he is at the
- 29:15Speaker 1: BMW Championship Tiger Woods all time earnings one hundred and
- 29:19Speaker 1: twenty million, nine hundred and ninety and one thousand, one
- 29:21Speaker 1: hundred and sixty six total dollars. Scheffler is at one
- 29:25Speaker 1: nineteen nine sixty four four eleven. Roy McElroy is third
- 29:28Speaker 1: at one sixteen four eighty eight nine seventy two. Now again,
- 29:31Speaker 1: Keith Hardy earlier was with us and he said, hey,
- 29:34Speaker 1: but the purses are bigger this, you know, in twenty
- 29:37Speaker 1: twenty five and twenty six, And that's absolutely true. Uh,
- 29:40Speaker 1: but Schffler looks like he's about to move past Tiger Woods.

- 31:27Speaker 1: or one eight nine seven one zero five nine. If
- 31:29Speaker 1: you want to call us you this last segment or
- 31:31Speaker 1: shoot us a text six or one eight eight five
- 31:32Speaker 1: three seven seven six Chris Low reporting quote. They're piling
- 31:37Speaker 1: up these fallback plans of players in the NFL camps
- 31:40Speaker 1: going to find out pretty quickly if the SEC's ban
- 31:43Speaker 1: on transferring to a school within the conference after the
- 31:47Speaker 1: wonder portal closes is still a thing. Greg Sankee has
- 31:49Speaker 1: made it clear where he stands. Good time. So Greg
- 31:52Speaker 1: sank you with the SEC said, hey, look after the
- 31:55Speaker 1: fall portal window closes, you can't transfer to another SEC
- 31:59Speaker 1: school from an SEC school. Does that hold in this instance?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Take tight end to Kwan Wright who kind of kicked
- 32:07Speaker 1: this thing off with a couple of LSU players formerly
- 32:09Speaker 1: of Old Miss. They're in the transfer portal now, and
- 32:14Speaker 1: will they transfer out of the SEC? Will they be
- 32:16Speaker 1: allowed to transfer inside the SEC. It's going to be
- 32:19Speaker 1: a crazy week because they got supposedly one week to
- 32:22Speaker 1: see what happens with these players. Also, let's see here
- 32:34Speaker 1: Piper Hutchinson reports on the state of Louisiana. Nearly every
- 32:38Speaker 1: athletic department in Louisiana is bleeding money, impacting the fiscal
- 32:42Speaker 1: health of the rest of the school. At schools, the
- 32:45Speaker 1: situation has administrators eyeing ways to get their hands on
- 32:48Speaker 1: more sol's tax revenue to stabilize their programs. And look,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you're going to see this in Louisiana Tech as a
- 32:54Speaker 1: lead on this. Louisiana college sports programs are losing money.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Can sales taxes save these programs?
- 33:04Speaker 2: No?
- 33:05Speaker 1: Over time, they cannot. And again, the whole college sports
- 33:10Speaker 1: world is essentially the Titanic, right. The boat is going down,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and everybody's looking for something in the corners of the
- 33:18Speaker 1: boat to plug the holes. Nobody's addressing the elephant in
- 33:22Speaker 1: the room. What's the elephant the room? You can't keep
- 33:25Speaker 1: spending like this. You can't keep doing this in college athletics.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And surely, to goodness, somebody out there, some think tank
- 33:38Speaker 1: has run a scour analysis on this whole deal and said, hey,
- 33:42Speaker 1: look at this rate that we're going over x amount
- 33:46Speaker 1: of time. These things are collapsing and they're going in
- 33:51Speaker 1: the water. But nobody's ringing the alarm bells other than
- 33:55Speaker 1: like this, Well, hey, can tax dollars save your athletic programs? Well,
- 34:01Speaker 1: we're going to go to Congress. Well, we got to
- 34:02Speaker 1: have a bill. Bills aren't going to get passed. So
- 34:05Speaker 1: we're living in this. You're on the Titanic and they're
- 34:08Speaker 1: saying that the boats are coming, the boats are coming
- 34:12Speaker 1: to save us. They're coming. Well, I don't say anything.
- 34:16Speaker 1: It's black dark out here. It's midnight. There's no no flashlights,
- 34:20Speaker 1: there's no lights in the sky. Well, where are they at?
- 34:24Speaker 1: What they're coming? Where are they? Well, we got to
- 34:27Speaker 1: let's find something else to plug the boat while we wait.
- 34:29Speaker 1: That's essentially what's going on in college athletics. Nobody's trying
- 34:34Speaker 1: to save these programs. Other than saying, hey, we need
- 34:36Speaker 1: more money. Nobody's saying stop spending. It's like the federal government,
- 34:40Speaker 1: stop spending. Well, we got to spend. Why because we
- 34:44Speaker 1: have to. We need more money. We need more of
- 34:46Speaker 1: your money. Now they're telling you we need more tax
- 34:48Speaker 1: dollars to save your athletic program. It's just not gonna happen.
- 34:52Speaker 1: It's gonna be a sad day when the cows come home.
- 34:54Speaker 1: As they say it's it's gonna be a bad day.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Rock Obeck, the quarterback for Penn State who came over
- 35:06Speaker 1: from Iowa State, is taking one class this fall at
- 35:10Speaker 1: Penn state. He just says he doesn't know what it
- 35:12Speaker 1: is yet. Now, I don't know if that means he
- 35:14Speaker 1: hasn't enrolled or what. Leonora Sellers is working at a
- 35:18Speaker 1: golf course as an intern, so that is out there. Also,
- 35:24Speaker 1: Calshi Sports Pro Football Focus ranked the best wide receiver
- 35:29Speaker 1: course in the NFL. Lions listed with the best wide
- 35:33Speaker 1: receivers in the National Football League this year, followed by
- 35:35Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals number three, Seattle Seahawks number four,
- 35:40Speaker 1: the Vikings number five, Rams, Falcons, Eagles, Patriots, and Jaguars.
- 35:44Speaker 1: That's your top ten and if you go all the
- 35:47Speaker 1: way down to sixteen, you got the Packers, Broncos, forty nine, Ers, Bears, Cardinals,
- 35:53Speaker 1: and Steelers. And Division two school is in trouble. D
- 35:59Speaker 1: two schools cures six figure deal for a jersey patch,
- 36:02Speaker 1: but it's not allowed to wear it under the NCAA rules. Again,
- 36:08Speaker 1: we've got more programs that just I guess don't know
- 36:11Speaker 1: the rules, says The University of Central Missouri announced a
- 36:17Speaker 1: five year partnership with Shelter Insurance that will eventually put
- 36:22Speaker 1: the company's logo on the competition uniforms of all seventeen Mules,
- 36:26Speaker 1: the Central Missouri Mules and the Jennies. That's interesting. They
- 36:31Speaker 1: got two mascots, the Mules and the Jennies, and of
- 36:34Speaker 1: course the genie is a female mule. They're vrsit. Sports
- 36:37Speaker 1: industry sources tell Extra Point the agreement is worth six
- 36:42Speaker 1: figures annually, putting a Division two school in roughly the
- 36:45Speaker 1: bottom end of the Division one patch market before its
- 36:48Speaker 1: own division even unlocked. The feature Central Missouri sold ad
- 36:55Speaker 1: space that technically does not exist yet says there's there's
- 37:00Speaker 1: some important fine print here at the school itself is
- 37:03Speaker 1: not pretending the n c ROBA roles do not exist.
- 37:05Speaker 1: You see, m Athletics explicitly announced the deal as a
- 37:08Speaker 1: pending NCAA approval, So we're gonna sell it, then we're
- 37:10Speaker 1: gonna prove it. Hey, thanks to a Maristar Casino. Thanks
- 37:13Speaker 1: to be, Thanks to Keith Hardy, Raphael Spars and Bill Bender.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Remember Ketchup is King Bacon's a delicacy. A loha means goodbye,
- 37:19Speaker 1: be a man of increase. We have reached through crescendo
- 37:22Speaker 1: on a Thursday. We'll see tomorrow to be Friday. Goodnight,
