- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode ninety four of Cards
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as always
- 0:23Speaker 1: by my very good friend from rasball, Jeremy Brewer. How
- 0:27Speaker 1: are you doing tonight, buddy? How was your week off?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Oh?
- 0:29Speaker 1: It was good.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We had a full week off. I know. Unfortunately for
- 0:32Speaker 2: the listeners they didn't get to hear us. But I
- 0:34Speaker 2: have big news that only you and I care about.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Did you hear that our high school baseball team is
- 0:41Speaker 2: going to state for the first time in twenty one years,
- 0:45Speaker 2: second time in ninety three years? Like big news?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Wow? So the first time you were at mister high
- 0:51Speaker 1: school field.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You were you were picking, you were picking up what
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm laying down, first time since I played twenty one
- 0:59Speaker 2: years ago. That I didn't think about that when I
- 1:02Speaker 2: was gonna bring this up. That made me feel rolled.
- 1:05Speaker 2: But teams going to states unfortunately can't make it make
- 1:09Speaker 2: it up. Actually up near your near your area there, Juliette,
- 1:13Speaker 2: Illinois where the state tournament's at not too far from you,
- 1:16Speaker 2: so U but hey, two days from now State championship.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Wish wishing the Ironman the best. Wish I could be
- 1:25Speaker 2: there cheering for them, but hey, anyway to sneak baseball
- 1:30Speaker 2: news from our local community, and I'm all for it.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But it's gonna be a fun time rooting for the
- 1:36Speaker 2: iron Man.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I hope they represent central Illinois. Well there,
- 1:40Speaker 1: normal community high school, go iron Did they play that
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the Slammers Stadium Untiliet? I where did they play
- 1:47Speaker 1: it in.
- 1:47Speaker 2: The Slammers Stadium and Juliet?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yes, I didn't know that.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That's it's the it's in the Slammers And yeah, it's been,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's been. That's exactly where I've played twenty one years ago.
- 1:56Speaker 2: They've not moved it from from that little minor league stadium.
- 1:59Speaker 2: So it's a great, great little location.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds about right, and good luck to anybody going.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I drove around Juliet when I was coming back from
- 2:08Speaker 1: my week off and it is a bit of a
- 2:10Speaker 1: cluster with all the construction. It's kind of classic Midwest
- 2:13Speaker 1: construction season on all those roads out there. So especially
- 2:17Speaker 1: if you're stuck in that traffic, go into our backlog.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Like I said, this is our ninety fourth episode, so
- 2:22Speaker 1: we've almost got one hundred episodes in there, and you're
- 2:25Speaker 1: actually gonna want to also check out the episode that
- 2:27Speaker 1: we did back number seventy eight when we cover top
- 2:31Speaker 1: Series one, that release of the twenty twenty five calendar.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And so because we are covering Series two release today,
- 2:40Speaker 1: so it is releasing as we're talking on June eleventh,
- 2:43Speaker 1: the evening, So fantastic another kind of seminal release here
- 2:48Speaker 1: for the summer calendar. But before we get into that
- 2:51Speaker 1: overview in the second half of our show, let's get
- 2:54Speaker 1: into our typical news and notes from all of baseball
- 2:57Speaker 1: and kind of how it's also affecting our fantasy teams
- 3:00Speaker 1: out there. And it's been a bloodbath out there, I
- 3:04Speaker 1: would say since we have last talked, and honestly, even
- 3:08Speaker 1: if we recorded last week, a lot of what I'm
- 3:10Speaker 1: about to rattle off has happened since last Wednesday, Like
- 3:14Speaker 1: June fourth, it is just turned into a total just
- 3:20Speaker 1: like graveyard of arms on our waiver wires out there
- 3:24Speaker 1: in terms of our teams are battling through it all
- 3:27Speaker 1: We've got I'm just gonna rattle them all off and
- 3:29Speaker 1: then I'm going to swing it to you to figure
- 3:30Speaker 1: out what we're gonna do. Kind of in general here,
- 3:33Speaker 1: we've got Tommy John surgery for Corbyn Burns of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: Arizona Diamondbacks. We've got a sixty day IL stent for
- 3:40Speaker 1: an oblique issue for Ryan Weathers of the Miami Marlins.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Pablo Lopez out eight to twelve weeks with a muscle
- 3:49Speaker 1: strain in his shoulder. Bryce Miller of the Mariners going
- 3:53Speaker 1: down with an elbow inflammation that is ominous. I will say,
- 3:58Speaker 1: just say the least. Shane Bieber scratch from his most
- 4:01Speaker 1: recent rehab start and has been put on pause as
- 4:04Speaker 1: he's been coming back for Tommy John surgery with the Guardians.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Hunter Green back on the IL with just like everything,
- 4:12Speaker 1: his entire body seems broken every time that Hunter Green
- 4:15Speaker 1: has been going on. This week, we just got breaking
- 4:18Speaker 1: news right before this podcast, Jackson Job with the Detroit
- 4:21Speaker 1: Tigers hitting the IL going underneath the knife for Tommy
- 4:25Speaker 1: John surgery. And then we also had a j Smith
- 4:28Speaker 1: Schapper going down with Tommy John surgery in that was
- 4:32Speaker 1: maybe the one that happened before, like it would have
- 4:36Speaker 1: been in the week prior if we recorded last week.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But that is quite the list of all up and
- 4:42Speaker 1: down the pitching kind of pool for fantasy, So I
- 4:46Speaker 1: kind of hinted at it where it's like that's a
- 4:48Speaker 1: lot to absorb, and even going into this kind of
- 4:51Speaker 1: stretch of injuries, I was already writing in my Waiver
- 4:54Speaker 1: Wire column on Saturday that it was already thin. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: think in twelve and ten teamers this past time that
- 4:59Speaker 1: I wrote, I only had like four suggestions because not
- 5:03Speaker 1: only are pitching staffs then, but you can't rely on
- 5:06Speaker 1: pictures in Oakland. You can't rely on pictures going to
- 5:09Speaker 1: city field. You can't rely on just a myriad of
- 5:13Speaker 1: different matchups that you used to be able to. So
- 5:16Speaker 1: how are we navigating this this summer brew because we're
- 5:19Speaker 1: not even halfway through the Fantasy Baseball calendar?
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think you got something wrong there because
- 5:25Speaker 2: you added on things. Was because we can't trust pictures,
- 5:29Speaker 2: because of things, you just can't trust pictures. I think
- 5:30Speaker 2: it's the easier way to look at it right now
- 5:32Speaker 2: is that it seemed like everybody's arms falling off. And
- 5:34Speaker 2: it's not not ideal by by any means. But I
- 5:38Speaker 2: think what this ultimately means is for a majority league,
- 5:41Speaker 2: not all leagues, but majority leagues, you need innings. You
- 5:44Speaker 2: need innings, and you have to just change your threshold
- 5:46Speaker 2: of what's acceptable for your team. And I've got teams
- 5:51Speaker 2: in this way that I started slow. I was relying
- 5:53Speaker 2: on injured guys like Brendan Woodrooff to not get hurts
- 5:55Speaker 2: four times on the AL and Shane Bieber to come back,
- 5:59Speaker 2: and guys like that Spencer Strider to come back and
- 6:02Speaker 2: actually have some velocity, all those kind of things. And
- 6:05Speaker 2: so you have to you have to be willing to
- 6:07Speaker 2: kind of like open your risk threshold from a pitching
- 6:10Speaker 2: perspective to still like maintain the volume. And then you
- 6:13Speaker 2: got to pick where you're gonna get cut, Like, are
- 6:15Speaker 2: you going to you know, risk it from a strike
- 6:17Speaker 2: up perspective and kind of drop those off? Are you
- 6:20Speaker 2: going to take a guy that's maybe running a little
- 6:22Speaker 2: hot in the babit pluck and say, hey, is this
- 6:24Speaker 2: gonna going to hold on? But you know, I'm gonna
- 6:27Speaker 2: rattle off some names for you here. I'm gonna keep
- 6:28Speaker 2: one out because I think there's a there's a hidden
- 6:30Speaker 2: gym that I that I'm I'm taking up a lot
- 6:32Speaker 2: of places. But these are guys that are generally available
- 6:36Speaker 2: most places, and I think these are the kind of
- 6:38Speaker 2: guys you need to be invested on. There are land mines.
- 6:41Speaker 2: They are scary at times, but they're generally available and
- 6:45Speaker 2: there's general upside with with some of these. So uh,
- 6:48Speaker 2: first of all, Mike's Soroka uh been doing really decent
- 6:52Speaker 2: for the Nationals. Ben Brown, Uh, He's probably not as available,
- 6:56Speaker 2: but actually been doing pretty gushnarn Well, Drew Rasmussen over
- 6:59Speaker 2: for the Rays, Ryan Yarborough getting some playing time for
- 7:04Speaker 2: the Dodgers, Ryan Nelson of the Diamondbacks. All of those
- 7:08Speaker 2: kind of guys are this like middling guys that's over
- 7:13Speaker 2: the last thirty days been pretty decent. Aren't gonna completely
- 7:16Speaker 2: blow you up, but you just aren' gonna feel really
- 7:19Speaker 2: great about it. So I'm throwing those at you. Soroka, Brown, Restless,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and Yarborough, Nelson. If you had to pick one, who's
- 7:26Speaker 2: the guy that you're going after right now?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Well, I can definitely grew up Ben Brown. I've been
- 7:31Speaker 1: on that train. It's fun in terms of the strikeouts
- 7:34Speaker 1: that you see, until you look at the era and
- 7:37Speaker 1: whip that he also produced for you, because that is
- 7:40Speaker 1: not the train I think to hitch your ride to
- 7:44Speaker 1: got blown up today by Philadelphia. It's just he's tempting
- 7:48Speaker 1: to because he does pop up in our RAS ball
- 7:50Speaker 1: streaminator a lot for like having good starts. Actually today
- 7:54Speaker 1: was and I was like, no, no, I can't do
- 7:57Speaker 1: that one. And I'm glad I didn't. So Ben, I
- 8:00Speaker 1: think he's a reliever too. There's just something about him
- 8:03Speaker 1: where I think he would excel in that kind of
- 8:06Speaker 1: like Michael Kopek transition to the bullpen, I think you've
- 8:10Speaker 1: got to go Rasmus in there that like it's a
- 8:12Speaker 1: little bit of like you've got to look at honestly,
- 8:15Speaker 1: in his rates have been crazy that like, even if
- 8:18Speaker 1: you're trying to trade for him, I think you if
- 8:21Speaker 1: you're desperate for pitching, you got to be a little
- 8:23Speaker 1: aggressive for it because he's healthy now and like right
- 8:27Speaker 1: now it looks like he's gonna, you know, stick in
- 8:30Speaker 1: that rotation and be a solid piece. Worry about the
- 8:34Speaker 1: back end, worry about how to fill that spot if
- 8:36Speaker 1: he goes down in a month. When that happens, that
- 8:38Speaker 1: you've got to be really just looking at your next week,
- 8:43Speaker 1: maybe the next week after, but you can't be looking
- 8:46Speaker 1: out more than two or three weeks and trying to
- 8:48Speaker 1: find like just the best pitching that you can to
- 8:52Speaker 1: bank it while you can This is why. Like also,
- 8:55Speaker 1: like one of the strategies I've been really harping on
- 8:58Speaker 1: is try to bank as much pitching in the April
- 9:03Speaker 1: May time frame as he can, not only because it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: colder everywhere, but also because of this, like try to
- 9:09Speaker 1: absorb as many like starts as you can, just to
- 9:12Speaker 1: get the k's and the wins from those four and
- 9:14Speaker 1: five starters and rotations, to try to bank it now
- 9:17Speaker 1: before you end up in this situation. So, was rasmussing
- 9:20Speaker 1: your guy or is there another one of those collection
- 9:23Speaker 1: that really stood out to you?
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean of that collection, I'm actually much more
- 9:28Speaker 2: interested in Soroka. I feel like he's made some improvements.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think he's finally gotten healthy, and I think he's
- 9:34Speaker 2: in a low pressure situation, so I think there's a
- 9:38Speaker 2: lot to like there. I don't think he's gonna be
- 9:39Speaker 2: the kind of guy that lights things up, but I
- 9:41Speaker 2: also don't think he's gonna fully get lit up at
- 9:43Speaker 2: the same time. I think both apply. But she because
- 9:46Speaker 2: I didn't share one name that I'm actually more excited about,
- 9:49Speaker 2: which this could curse him, and I think this could
- 9:51Speaker 2: be a bad But I'm really interested with EMMITTT Sheehan
- 9:55Speaker 2: coming back from the Dodgers here. He has been lights
- 9:57Speaker 2: out for Oklahoma City in his kind of rehab, and
- 10:01Speaker 2: his velocies is up, like he looks good compared to
- 10:05Speaker 2: you know, coming off of injury, like almost every other picture.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And he was a guy like before he went down,
- 10:11Speaker 2: he was showing all kinds of great signs, which would
- 10:14Speaker 2: also say for a guy like Bobby Miller for the
- 10:15Speaker 2: Dodgers and that didn't work out, and so but he's
- 10:19Speaker 2: relatively free almost everywhere, and as soon as he's healthy,
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think probably one more rehab start is what he gets,
- 10:25Speaker 2: and he's probably getting called up. He's gonna need to
- 10:27Speaker 2: build up over time, but I think he's gonna be
- 10:30Speaker 2: a really, really sneaky pickup for the next few days here.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I think there's a lot of
- 10:37Speaker 1: also different strategies you can take here that you can
- 10:41Speaker 1: try to weather it through with what's on the wire.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I would say just focus on two start guys and
- 10:48Speaker 1: figure out what you can do from there, you know,
- 10:50Speaker 1: just like stream two starters the best one you can
- 10:53Speaker 1: find to try to build that volume. You can also
- 10:56Speaker 1: start looking in the minor leagues like emtt sheehan as
- 10:59Speaker 1: you said, or try to. I mean, we're going to
- 11:01Speaker 1: talk about a couple of call ups that are happening,
- 11:02Speaker 1: but I think they're hard to also predict because like
- 11:06Speaker 1: teams will pull the trigger pretty quickly. As we'll kind
- 11:09Speaker 1: of talk about one of them appeared, maybe one more
- 11:12Speaker 1: unexpectedly than the other. The other thing is you got
- 11:16Speaker 1: to keep in mind that, like the data out there
- 11:19Speaker 1: is so much more granular than it ever has been
- 11:22Speaker 1: on the pitching side, and it's really helpful to be
- 11:25Speaker 1: able to fangrafts in the game longs you can go
- 11:28Speaker 1: through and sort by stuff, plus in the game longs
- 11:31Speaker 1: to be able to see if players are making significant changes.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm on prospect savant dot com right now looking at
- 11:37Speaker 1: what Imachi hands profile to see the stats that he
- 11:41Speaker 1: was putting up in TRIPLEA. That like, you can use
- 11:44Speaker 1: it just like regular baseball Savant. And then obviously you've
- 11:48Speaker 1: got the streamin ador from rasball to help you out,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and the itch is all over this. There's lots of
- 11:53Speaker 1: different spots where you can find hot pitchers, get lots
- 11:56Speaker 1: of data, try to stash them away, try to play matchups,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and it does take a lot of work, but this
- 12:02Speaker 1: is kind of the prime time to win your league because,
- 12:05Speaker 1: like I said, we haven't hit even the halfway point.
- 12:08Speaker 1: We're getting close, but we haven't even hit it. So
- 12:10Speaker 1: like there's plenty of Fantasy Baseball season out there. Any
- 12:13Speaker 1: other strategies that maybe you're employing that can kind of
- 12:17Speaker 1: help maybe get through this mess.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the only other one I've been kind
- 12:22Speaker 2: of looking at it is, and it just depends on
- 12:24Speaker 2: the set up of your league, has been the reliever
- 12:27Speaker 2: of approach is like we'll start to get the deepen
- 12:29Speaker 2: the relievers, even kind of your long relievers. Like it
- 12:33Speaker 2: feels wrong to say this, but like a Stephen Mattz
- 12:35Speaker 2: has actually been really valuable in that because he's going
- 12:38Speaker 2: multiple innings. He's doing great things. Matt Brash just came
- 12:41Speaker 2: back for the Mariners a few weeks ago, and he
- 12:43Speaker 2: has just been unbelievable since he came back. Most of
- 12:46Speaker 2: those kind of like set up men they're just great,
- 12:49Speaker 2: have been picked up since earlier in the season. But
- 12:51Speaker 2: in some of the shallower leagues where you have relief
- 12:53Speaker 2: spots that you can use and that m'll be frank,
- 12:56Speaker 2: the closer market is just as rough as the starters,
- 13:01Speaker 2: you're almost better off picking like three or four of
- 13:03Speaker 2: those guys that can get you a few dings every week.
- 13:04Speaker 2: You're essentially trying to build, you know, a fifth starter
- 13:07Speaker 2: type of thing. And if you have the roster of flexibility,
- 13:10Speaker 2: I'm picking up a few of those guys and letting
- 13:12Speaker 2: them just run and help my ratios, You're almost better
- 13:15Speaker 2: than trying to, you know, play the Ben Brown type
- 13:18Speaker 2: of roller coaster. So I think that's another strategy. Doesn't
- 13:21Speaker 2: work in all leagues, but definitely definitely viable in quite
- 13:24Speaker 2: a few.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a good point too, and I
- 13:26Speaker 1: think you can even look at like middle relievers that
- 13:29Speaker 1: One of the ways that I do this is honestly,
- 13:31Speaker 1: at this point, you're far enough in to know who
- 13:34Speaker 1: the manager trusts and who the teams trust, so just
- 13:36Speaker 1: go to innings pitched and you can start picking it
- 13:39Speaker 1: out to just see where you can get some volume.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I'm looking at names like Wasscar bras Abond for the
- 13:44Speaker 1: New York Mets, Garrett Whitlock for the Red Sox. Obviously,
- 13:49Speaker 1: Jason Adam for the Padres is a huge piece at
- 13:52Speaker 1: this point in time. Yarol Rodriguez has been really sharp
- 13:55Speaker 1: out the bullpen for the Blue Jays. So just kind
- 13:58Speaker 1: of find that right combo of the skills that you
- 14:01Speaker 1: need to make up K's era whip. Because it is
- 14:06Speaker 1: also the time of season where teams that were running
- 14:08Speaker 1: out front and had Corbin Burns, had Pablo Lopez, They're
- 14:13Speaker 1: coming back to the pack and their er and whip
- 14:16Speaker 1: were probably in pretty decent shape if you had like
- 14:18Speaker 1: two those two on your team, and they're gonna have
- 14:21Speaker 1: to find one of these really bottom of the barrel options.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So keep your heads up, keep turning on those waiver wires.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Check me out on Saturday. Have lots of suggestions for you.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Good good plug, good plug.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm here for. Okay, you did hint
- 14:37Speaker 1: at the closer chaos, So do you want to go
- 14:40Speaker 1: there first? Or you want to get into prospect collps?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Do you want to have fun?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Well?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Which type of fun do you want to have?
- 14:44Speaker 2: I guess I mean we were already on the chaos.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Let's stick with the pictures, let's stick with the injuries.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Let's like let I mean, let's let's a good times roll.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's stick in the closer front. So the
- 14:56Speaker 1: first one we have is the Atlanta Braves. Our mess
- 14:59Speaker 1: ross Al Iglesias has totally unraveled this year, where just
- 15:04Speaker 1: giving up taters left and right, and if it wasn't
- 15:08Speaker 1: for the rest of that bullpen around him, I think
- 15:10Speaker 1: being a little suspect in terms of like it wasn't
- 15:13Speaker 1: a great bullpen to begin with. That's why they signed
- 15:16Speaker 1: and released Craig Kimberrel. You know, it was allowed Iglesias
- 15:22Speaker 1: to work for a long time. Brian Snicker has already
- 15:25Speaker 1: said that Iglesias is out of that role. They're gonna
- 15:27Speaker 1: start mixing it up. So you have like roster resource
- 15:31Speaker 1: has what two four five players listened to. This is
- 15:34Speaker 1: the closer right now in this committee between Iglesias, Dylan Lee,
- 15:38Speaker 1: Pierce Johnson, Aaron Bummer, and Yelle de los Santos. This
- 15:42Speaker 1: team has been bad, but it's still solid overall that
- 15:46Speaker 1: there's enough saves here any one you're throwing your hat.
- 15:49Speaker 2: At, I'm I'm trying to pick somebody, but it's not
- 15:53Speaker 2: terribly easy. If I if I had to go with
- 15:57Speaker 2: that group, I think, you know, Pierce Johnson is probably
- 16:01Speaker 2: the one that I'm probably most intrigued with. You know,
- 16:05Speaker 2: he's got closing the experience. He's done it before, and
- 16:10Speaker 2: you know it wasn't terribly uh successful when when he
- 16:15Speaker 2: was there, but he's he's been in that role. I
- 16:17Speaker 2: also think Aaron Bummer is kind of interesting to degree,
- 16:21Speaker 2: always like kind of a solid guy, you know, actually
- 16:24Speaker 2: pitching with three three O E ra A his uh
- 16:27Speaker 2: fip uh and x c ra are both in the
- 16:29Speaker 2: low two's uh so have been pretty pretty solid, but
- 16:32Speaker 2: neither guy really just jumps off the page. Is like
- 16:35Speaker 2: a dominant closer, you know, guys that have multiple pitches
- 16:39Speaker 2: like they're they're good relievers, but they're just not what
- 16:42Speaker 2: you you know expected. You know, this would have been
- 16:44Speaker 2: a great segment to call out Craig Kemberrell, but he got
- 16:46Speaker 2: a whole day with the Braves before he got snatched
- 16:51Speaker 2: up elsewhere across the league. But yeah, this is probably
- 16:54Speaker 2: a bullpen I'm just generally avoiding at this point unless
- 16:58Speaker 2: we see very individual role with Johnson or Bummer.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean I actually like Dylan lee here
- 17:07Speaker 1: a lot too. He's had a really good season, pitched
- 17:10Speaker 1: to two one seven ERA over twenty nine innings so far,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and the case have been that there It is really
- 17:18Speaker 1: risky to have a left handed closer just because of
- 17:20Speaker 1: the right handed matchup aspect. But it's a solid one
- 17:25Speaker 1: ozer eight stuff plus slider one ten stuff plus fastball,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and he's got a change up so he can kind
- 17:31Speaker 1: of neutralize righties a little bit. But the nice thing
- 17:34Speaker 1: is the Braves also have bummer there and Dylan Dodd
- 17:39Speaker 1: in that bullpen to be able to really also provide
- 17:43Speaker 1: more soft pause if needed.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So yeah, I was just with with Lee like a
- 17:48Speaker 2: little concerned. Were running a one ninety four baby bit
- 17:50Speaker 2: an ninety five percent left on base rate, and so
- 17:53Speaker 2: like love Bryce Elder. I bring him up as Almos
- 17:55Speaker 2: as much as anybody, but that's the profile of like
- 18:00Speaker 2: Luck has been really really conkind and I feel like
- 18:04Speaker 2: Dylan Lee might care for a little bit, but when
- 18:06Speaker 2: he goes, it's going to be a fireworks, that's for sure.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah. And actually lefties have been better off of him.
- 18:13Speaker 1: He's neutralized right handers that all the damages come from lefties,
- 18:16Speaker 1: all the three of the five homers.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Only the most interesting. He's the most interesting guy, that's
- 18:23Speaker 2: for sure.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see where he goes. Okay, the next job
- 18:29Speaker 1: we have up for Grabs is back in Arizona as
- 18:31Speaker 1: Justin Martinez back on the IL with ucl Sprain. It's
- 18:36Speaker 1: I mean, it always felt like this was coming for
- 18:39Speaker 1: Justin Martinez. If you've ever watched him pitch, it was
- 18:42Speaker 1: the most violent actions I've ever seen, like a la
- 18:46Speaker 1: Ryan Helsley, where you're just like, that's gonna break. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: so Martinez is down, I think he's probably gonna be
- 18:52Speaker 1: out for a significant stretch. Shelby Miller should be walking
- 18:55Speaker 1: right into that job again. But AJ Puck is getting
- 18:59Speaker 1: pretty close to back from the sixty jil Any horse
- 19:03Speaker 1: that you prefer there between Puck and Miller.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'd probably at this point take Miller.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I feel like Puck, I just he's so erratic as
- 19:14Speaker 2: far as performance, He's he's been lights out, he's not
- 19:17Speaker 2: been and so I think at this point I'm probably
- 19:20Speaker 2: going to take Miller and just ride that out. He's
- 19:25Speaker 2: he's been very solid this year. He kind of seems
- 19:27Speaker 2: to know what what what he's doing overall from a
- 19:32Speaker 2: you know, playing that that bullpen. So I think he's
- 19:36Speaker 2: he's my go to, and you know, I guess the
- 19:40Speaker 2: injury piece with Puck just still concerns me, Like I
- 19:44Speaker 2: we just talked about all these pictures, how injured they've been,
- 19:47Speaker 2: and I almost just want to go with a guy
- 19:48Speaker 2: that just seems healthy, Like that's kind of why Arizona.
- 19:52Speaker 2: And again he's he's already saved you know, six games
- 19:56Speaker 2: this season, so it's not like he's not played the role.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It's not like a thrust him in there. So I
- 20:01Speaker 2: think he gets the leadish until until he's earned the
- 20:05Speaker 2: right to not have it.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. Okay, well let's get
- 20:09Speaker 1: into some of those fun call ups. So we kind
- 20:11Speaker 1: of did bury the lead. I mean, although those injuries
- 20:13Speaker 1: were a pretty good lead, if I do say so myself.
- 20:16Speaker 1: That Roman Anthony, outfielder for the Boston Red Sox called
- 20:21Speaker 1: up over the past few days, already has his first
- 20:24Speaker 1: major league hit, a double. He has three RBIs as well,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and it came off of a weekend where he popped
- 20:32Speaker 1: a four hundred ninety seven foot homer in triple A
- 20:34Speaker 1: Wooster And it was kind of it just got to
- 20:37Speaker 1: the point where the Red Sox couldn't keep him down.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And then will you were a bray you also hit
- 20:41Speaker 1: the il with an oblique and or obleaque issue, and
- 20:45Speaker 1: so that really opened the door here for Anthony in
- 20:48Speaker 1: Boston after he put up a two eighty eight four
- 20:51Speaker 1: to twenty three four ninety one slash line that's a
- 20:54Speaker 1: one forty six WRC plus as a twenty one year
- 20:57Speaker 1: old at Triple A for fifty eight games. Where do
- 21:01Speaker 1: you have Romany Anthine kind of in your pecking order
- 21:03Speaker 1: the rest of the season. Is he in the top
- 21:05Speaker 1: one hundred hitters automatically or does he have a little
- 21:07Speaker 1: bit of work to do for you?
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he definitely falls into the top one
- 21:11Speaker 2: hundred automatically for me. At this point. The pop back,
- 21:14Speaker 2: like twenty in the top one hundred right now is
- 21:16Speaker 2: pretty pretty rough. There's just a lot of variability, a
- 21:19Speaker 2: lot of guys that have been scuffling. So I probably
- 21:22Speaker 2: I'm probably gonna drop him in the seventy to eighty
- 21:25Speaker 2: five range. I haven't really rankings. All be doing rankings
- 21:29Speaker 2: this weekend, so I haven't really seen exactly where where
- 21:31Speaker 2: I've put him. But you know, the profile here is
- 21:35Speaker 2: almost everything that you want to see in a hitting prospect.
- 21:38Speaker 2: He hits for a strong average, he walks a lot,
- 21:43Speaker 2: he walks a lot, and it's not like he's He's
- 21:46Speaker 2: not playing like a cap on Bhio here where he
- 21:47Speaker 2: walks because he doesn't swing. He's doing a really good balance.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You know, he hits for power. He's not really run
- 21:57Speaker 2: a whole lot this year, but I'm not terribly concerned
- 21:59Speaker 2: about that. I think a lot of that comes down
- 22:01Speaker 2: to keeping him healthy. Let's be honest. The Red Sox
- 22:05Speaker 2: were biting time with Anthony, playing a little bit of
- 22:08Speaker 2: game with the the service time. At the same time,
- 22:13Speaker 2: I think they had some decent hitters from when I
- 22:16Speaker 2: feel perspective at the majors that they wanted to give
- 22:19Speaker 2: a chance to run. Knowing that Anthony was was gonna
- 22:21Speaker 2: be there, they just wanted to figure out who who
- 22:23Speaker 2: he was gonna push out, because once he's there, he's playing.
- 22:25Speaker 2: He's not up to something on bench by any means.
- 22:28Speaker 2: So this is definitely a bat that long term very
- 22:31Speaker 2: excited about this year. He's probably gonna have a little
- 22:34Speaker 2: bit of bump, some bruises, but he's gonna provide some volume.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I wouldn't be shocked by double digit homers the rest
- 22:41Speaker 2: of the way, maybe getting up to fifteen, hitting two
- 22:44Speaker 2: seventy five and let's let's squeeze out eight steals. That's
- 22:49Speaker 2: that's kind of where I'm gonna gonna peg him. So
- 22:51Speaker 2: I'm looking at the projections here. I'm probably going a
- 22:54Speaker 2: little generous, but I think he's the kind of guy
- 22:56Speaker 2: that has that capability and he's got actually decent lineup
- 23:00Speaker 2: protection now that Boston's got quite a bit of this
- 23:03Speaker 2: young this youth coming up, and they're they're gonna make
- 23:07Speaker 2: some noise.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think so. I think I'm a little
- 23:11Speaker 1: more bearished on the batting average, but like I think,
- 23:14Speaker 1: playing in the middle of that lineup, I think he's
- 23:16Speaker 1: gonna be like an RBI machine just in terms of
- 23:18Speaker 1: having those dudes on in front of him. He's been
- 23:20Speaker 1: batting fifth and from there, like we'll see, like the
- 23:24Speaker 1: one kind of bugaboo he might have is that he
- 23:28Speaker 1: hits it on the ground a little bit too much.
- 23:29Speaker 1: But he hits the absolute snot out of it. So
- 23:31Speaker 1: it's like, can he make that adjustment to be able
- 23:34Speaker 1: to put the bat on the ball enough to just
- 23:38Speaker 1: hit enough homers. But like, I think he's automatically like
- 23:42Speaker 1: probably gonna be somewhere in like a like third ish
- 23:46Speaker 1: round already, like going into twenty twenty six, Like if
- 23:49Speaker 1: you had to read draft for twenty twenty six already, Like,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I think he's gonna be a pretty hot commodity just
- 23:54Speaker 1: because the sky's the limit. He's only twenty one years old,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and he just like I said, the when he makes contact,
- 24:01Speaker 1: it is some of the loudest in all of baseball.
- 24:03Speaker 1: So go pick him up if he's available anywhere. That'll
- 24:06Speaker 1: be a little bananas at this point. Okay, Well, let's
- 24:11Speaker 1: stick to actually one of his former teammates in the
- 24:15Speaker 1: minor leagues. Kyle Teal, catcher for the White Sox, who
- 24:18Speaker 1: came over in that Garrett Crochet deal in the offseason,
- 24:20Speaker 1: also called up, debuted on Friday, and he's been pretty
- 24:24Speaker 1: solid since then, batting three hundred through just fifteen plate appearances,
- 24:28Speaker 1: but has played every day and appears to be set
- 24:32Speaker 1: as the starting catcher in Chicago on the South side
- 24:35Speaker 1: for years. Like the runway is there for a long time.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I think this is a great bat, maybe like a
- 24:42Speaker 1: la Brian McCann. What do you think?
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I do think it's a great bat.
- 24:49Speaker 2: You know, Mcan's a pretty high praise and the guy
- 24:52Speaker 2: actually has a little bit of wheels, and I'm gonna
- 24:54Speaker 2: say great wheels. I think it's a little more smart
- 24:57Speaker 2: than wheels to a degree. But yeah, this this is
- 25:00Speaker 2: guy that has the potential to hit for a high average,
- 25:03Speaker 2: a little bit of pop, a little bit of speed,
- 25:05Speaker 2: good counting stats, like, gonna play well NOBE p leagues, like,
- 25:08Speaker 2: he's very solid. I think that the biggest knock against
- 25:11Speaker 2: him is not him, it's the fact that the catcher position,
- 25:14Speaker 2: all of a sudden, is this like youth run thing
- 25:17Speaker 2: going on. You've got your Yvonne Herreraz, You've got your
- 25:22Speaker 2: Augustin Ramirez, You've got who we got Tyler Stevenson's back,
- 25:28Speaker 2: you got Hunter Goodman playing the game. You've got Drake Baldwin.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Like there's there's all of a sudden this like youth
- 25:36Speaker 2: movement and catcher and all kinds of guys that are
- 25:38Speaker 2: actually really valuable. Nobody's just jumping out of the woodwork.
- 25:43Speaker 2: But they're all like what we consider probably a few
- 25:45Speaker 2: years ago, like borderline top five kind of guys. And
- 25:48Speaker 2: so I'm really excited about about a number of these guys.
- 25:52Speaker 2: And I think tal fits right in, and I think he's,
- 25:55Speaker 2: you know, the biggest knock against him, Uh is the
- 25:59Speaker 2: place for the White Socks, Like that's a that's a
- 26:02Speaker 2: drain right there. He's gonna the counting stats are gonna
- 26:05Speaker 2: be a little low, but he's he's absolutely their catch
- 26:08Speaker 2: of the future, and you know they didn't rush him
- 26:11Speaker 2: and they're now going to give him the play time
- 26:13Speaker 2: and the chance. So I think Teal's absolutely a great
- 26:17Speaker 2: option for folks that are kind of soured on catchers.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I saw Adlie dropped the league the other day and
- 26:24Speaker 2: I thought was a little aggressive. I also picked him
- 26:27Speaker 2: up immediately, But I think that there's definitely some good
- 26:33Speaker 2: options now at the catcher position that people need to
- 26:36Speaker 2: be checking in on.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think it. Even with the White Sox,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I mean they've been much improved, especially since Ben and
- 26:44Speaker 1: Tende's back, and Chase Mydrath has been pretty solid. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: mean he's sitting sixth, so just the counting stats alone,
- 26:50Speaker 1: playing every day that even when he's not in the lineup,
- 26:53Speaker 1: Teal should DH with like Caro being the DH when
- 26:56Speaker 1: Teal's not catching, and I wouldn't be surprised if both
- 27:00Speaker 1: of them also see a little bit of time at
- 27:01Speaker 1: first base. Although Timelco's back and has been hitting relatively well.
- 27:05Speaker 2: We're not goinging that.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's happening, And I think you've done our boy,
- 27:12Speaker 1: Kyle Teal just service. Because one cool thing about Prospects Savant,
- 27:16Speaker 1: with it having Savant sliders, we get some speed sliders here.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Oh okay, And I did not look at this speed.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I didn't look at this speed.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I look instead of the Jake Berger scale here we
- 27:25Speaker 1: go so over or under seventy second percent tile speed
- 27:32Speaker 1: in I guess it is triple A. And it doesn't
- 27:34Speaker 1: help that the scale is different from what's on Baseball
- 27:38Speaker 1: Savant from prospectsavon. So I don't know how they'll come
- 27:40Speaker 1: in at the majors, but I've got it. I'm going
- 27:42Speaker 1: to make a sticky note right here so that I
- 27:44Speaker 1: can go back in Baseball Savant in a couple of
- 27:47Speaker 1: weeks and check Kyle teal' sprint speed over under seventy
- 27:50Speaker 1: second percentile.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I mean you were baiting me to say over. I'm
- 27:54Speaker 2: going to go under because it's just that's impressive. That
- 27:58Speaker 2: kind of spiel, the kind of spiel speed for Teal,
- 28:03Speaker 2: he just it doesn't give off the vibes he gives up.
- 28:05Speaker 2: The vibes are a little bit more of a plotter overall,
- 28:08Speaker 2: But like is he it's it's gotta be over. U's
- 28:11Speaker 2: what you're telling me. I'm sticking under. That's my final call.
- 28:13Speaker 2: But you're gonna you're gonna tell me I'm wrong.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's over. It's seventy seven seventy that's pretty speedy.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So I think he's got some wheels.
- 28:22Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna be searching for some Kyle Teal
- 28:25Speaker 2: uh triple a stolen base clips later tonight.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, because if that is the case, we're
- 28:32Speaker 1: looking actually more at like a J. T. Roal Muto
- 28:34Speaker 1: here and then if the White Sox have no reason
- 28:38Speaker 1: not to just let him run, So I think that's
- 28:41Speaker 1: gonna be fascinating. I think it's also a player where
- 28:44Speaker 1: he could make a huge difference from here on out,
- 28:47Speaker 1: just because of the volume meant catcher. Catcher has been
- 28:49Speaker 1: really good as a position overall, But I think Teal
- 28:52Speaker 1: enters the the conversation right away. All Right, We're gonna
- 28:57Speaker 1: stick in Chicago and with the White Sox for the
- 28:59Speaker 1: next because Grant Taylor, their second round pick from twenty
- 29:03Speaker 1: twenty three out of LSU. His debuted came straight up
- 29:07Speaker 1: from Double A Birmingham, where they essentially have converted him
- 29:12Speaker 1: straight into a reliever, which was probably always Grant Taylor's
- 29:16Speaker 1: best path to the majors. It's an electric fastball. Secondary
- 29:20Speaker 1: stuff is still coming along. But if he can just
- 29:23Speaker 1: blow everybody went at the fastball, he can learn into
- 29:25Speaker 1: the major leagues. Put up a twelve and a half
- 29:27Speaker 1: k nine down in double A over twenty six and
- 29:30Speaker 1: two thirds a one oh one earra a one fifty nine.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Whip this guy. It's electric stuff. I think he's closing
- 29:37Speaker 1: in Chicago within the next month. What about you.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I think it's absolutely possible. I think what's what's exciting
- 29:45Speaker 2: about a guy like this is that the stuff is impressive.
- 29:49Speaker 2: It is mainly one pitch is sixty percent of the
- 29:52Speaker 2: time he's so far he's been, you know, throwing that
- 29:56Speaker 2: fastball in his whole uh one ending. But like he's
- 30:01Speaker 2: not gonna really change things up on you. He's just
- 30:03Speaker 2: gonna try to blow you away. The thing is he
- 30:05Speaker 2: has decent control, like and he he's kind of he's
- 30:10Speaker 2: kind of a ground ball guy at the end of
- 30:12Speaker 2: the day. So like that's kind of ideal for a closer,
- 30:15Speaker 2: like strong fastball and then one other pitch to play
- 30:18Speaker 2: off of. You keep the ball on the ground, you
- 30:19Speaker 2: limit any big innings like that's that's kind of ideal,
- 30:23Speaker 2: and who else is in the way, and that there
- 30:27Speaker 2: really isn't too much else in the way, So yeah,
- 30:31Speaker 2: jump only having you know, twenty six innings at double
- 30:35Speaker 2: A and nothing at triple A. It might be a
- 30:37Speaker 2: little bit of a stretch, but you know, it's just
- 30:40Speaker 2: kind of a matter of what happens like this. This
- 30:42Speaker 2: makes me feel a little Mason Montgomery for the Rays.
- 30:44Speaker 2: A guy with electric stuff is just is is it
- 30:47Speaker 2: gonna play enough? Or our pitchers are major league hitchers
- 30:52Speaker 2: able to adjust to it? So I want to watch it.
- 30:55Speaker 2: But like we talked earlier about where the pitching mark is,
- 30:57Speaker 2: this is the kind of guy. Pick him up, give
- 31:00Speaker 2: them a shot. If it blows up. The worst it
- 31:02Speaker 2: blows up is like a few runs in this in
- 31:04Speaker 2: an inning, put them on your bench. You're you're fine.
- 31:06Speaker 2: It's it's not like you pitch and pick up then
- 31:08Speaker 2: Brown he gets up eight and you know, a third
- 31:11Speaker 2: of an inning because they're trying to save the bullpen, right,
- 31:13Speaker 2: So this This is gonna be a fun one to.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Watch, Yeah, And I think this next one we've got
- 31:18Speaker 1: is probably gonna be even more fun to watch, probably
- 31:21Speaker 1: appointment viewing. During his debut, set to be tomorrow night
- 31:24Speaker 1: Thursday against the Cardinals, Jacot Missiorowski from the Milwaukee Brewers
- 31:29Speaker 1: is getting the call after putting a two thirteen ar
- 31:32Speaker 1: ra over sixty three and a third innings in Milwaukee.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Came with an eleven point four K nine. The walk
- 31:39Speaker 1: rate is still it's come down, but it's still high
- 31:42Speaker 1: at twelve point three percent. But the reason he didn't
- 31:45Speaker 1: debut last year is because he couldn't get it below
- 31:47Speaker 1: fourteen percent all of last year. This is a guy
- 31:50Speaker 1: with one hundred and three mile an hour fastball. He's
- 31:52Speaker 1: also got a wicked curveball, a solid hutter. If he
- 31:56Speaker 1: can hover around the twelve percent walk rate, I think
- 32:01Speaker 1: he's gonna be probably the most electric guy that's coming
- 32:04Speaker 1: up anytime soon. So with the situation like this, we
- 32:09Speaker 1: just talked about all those picture injuries we just talked about,
- 32:13Speaker 1: like we've seen also with the Brewers, they've sent Logan
- 32:16Speaker 1: Henderson up and down, up and down kind of jerked
- 32:18Speaker 1: him around. So especially from the FAB side. Maybe I'm
- 32:24Speaker 1: also kind of trying to tease out a little information
- 32:27Speaker 1: for you while I set my bid for Do I
- 32:29Speaker 1: call him this weekend? For those FAB leagues, how hard
- 32:32Speaker 1: do you go for a guy like this where you
- 32:34Speaker 1: have a limited FAB budget and he's available on your
- 32:36Speaker 1: waiver wire?
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know. First of all, I am
- 32:40Speaker 2: a little surprised it wasn't Logan Henderson getting called up,
- 32:43Speaker 2: with how dominant he had been when he was called up,
- 32:46Speaker 2: So I'm not quite sure what that's saying. Maybe it
- 32:49Speaker 2: was just that makes me almost wonders Misrowski only up
- 32:52Speaker 2: for a game or two.
- 32:55Speaker 1: But yeah, check too, because maybe I think Henderson's also
- 32:59Speaker 1: maybe down there to just like pitch once a week
- 33:02Speaker 1: sort of thing, and.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you might be saving saving and saving arms. So
- 33:06Speaker 2: but I think it's not a huge bid on fab
- 33:10Speaker 2: because this is a risky profile he he does. It's
- 33:16Speaker 2: the walks is It's not something just gets fixed. And
- 33:20Speaker 2: of all the players, you know, the guys that get
- 33:22Speaker 2: called up like this, this is a profile that, if
- 33:25Speaker 2: I was betting, is gonna end up in the bullpen
- 33:28Speaker 2: and it's gonna end up as the closure for the
- 33:29Speaker 2: Brewers in a year, and so I think they're gonna
- 33:33Speaker 2: try to get him. The stuff's electric. They're gonna try
- 33:35Speaker 2: to get him as a starter and try to make adjustments.
- 33:37Speaker 2: He's not gonna be able to control enough. He ends
- 33:39Speaker 2: up as a dominant closer that you can deal with
- 33:43Speaker 2: the four to five k per nine. But with the
- 33:48Speaker 2: pitching market where it's at, it's probably a ten to
- 33:52Speaker 2: twelve percent fab bid is where I'm kind of kind
- 33:56Speaker 2: of picking, especially if you've lost a few of those
- 33:59Speaker 2: guys like Burns or Lopez or Yeah, at this point,
- 34:02Speaker 2: Brence Miller, Shane Bieber, Jackson, job, let's just we'll just
- 34:04Speaker 2: go down a list. So ten to twelve percent that's
- 34:07Speaker 2: my range if I was the Waiver Wire column guy.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, that's actually about where it was going to
- 34:13Speaker 1: be anyway.
- 34:13Speaker 2: So thanks really not helpful.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think, yeah, you can watch Henderson. I
- 34:20Speaker 1: think they are just trying to really put him on
- 34:23Speaker 1: ice for a little bit. That he has pitched twice
- 34:26Speaker 1: since going down, but they've really throttled down the number
- 34:29Speaker 1: of batters he's facing and he's just carving them up.
- 34:32Speaker 1: So like, I think they're just trying to save Logan
- 34:36Speaker 1: Henderson's bullets for post All Star break. Keep that in
- 34:39Speaker 1: mind with both Henderson and Nisiobrowski as we get over
- 34:43Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks. Let's move on to We've
- 34:46Speaker 1: got one more debut in Philly. Auto Kemp is getting
- 34:49Speaker 1: called up there after. I mean he was electric down
- 34:52Speaker 1: in Triple A before his call up. It is a
- 34:56Speaker 1: situation where it's probably only temporary because Bryce Harper went
- 35:00Speaker 1: on the il with his wrist inflammation as I think
- 35:05Speaker 1: is that where he got hit in the elbow too,
- 35:07Speaker 1: So it's just been like a tough season for Bryce
- 35:10Speaker 1: Harper getting a little bit of a break. Kemp is
- 35:13Speaker 1: coming up after hitting three thirteen, four, sixteen, five ninety
- 35:17Speaker 1: four down at Triple A with fourteen homers eleven stone bases.
- 35:21Speaker 1: He's been a mainstay in my column just because Alec
- 35:24Speaker 1: Bohm looked like straight dodoo for a long time. He
- 35:27Speaker 1: has turned it around. But Kemp in his time in
- 35:31Speaker 1: Philly has been a little muted, I would say, because
- 35:36Speaker 1: the strikeout rate is thirty one point six percent over
- 35:38Speaker 1: nineteen plate appearances, just hitting two twenty two six strikeouts
- 35:43Speaker 1: to one k or to one walk. Just caught stealing
- 35:47Speaker 1: on his only attempt, so waiting on his first extra
- 35:50Speaker 1: base hit. What are you doing here with Kemp and
- 35:53Speaker 1: Philly and any concerns long term for Bryce Harper here
- 35:57Speaker 1: for the rest of the season.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not too So start with Harper. I'm not
- 36:01Speaker 2: terribly concerned. Like, the guy's just banged up right now,
- 36:03Speaker 2: and that's like vintage of Price Harper, so you know,
- 36:06Speaker 2: probably the best thing that could happen for a fantasy owner.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And the Phillies has put him on the ail and
- 36:11Speaker 2: like give him, like force him to take a few
- 36:14Speaker 2: weeks off here and get healthy. So that's that's probably ideal.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I'm not too worried long term for for Harper. It's
- 36:22Speaker 2: like this is just who he is. He's gonna always
- 36:25Speaker 2: fight through these things. Camp on the other hand, you know,
- 36:28Speaker 2: I is a guy that is, you know interesting. I'm
- 36:33Speaker 2: not not quite sure where to to go with him.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Like you know that he looks like a relatively patient hitter.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I'm just not confident that the power is really going
- 36:43Speaker 2: to translate. And you know, even as he's been up,
- 36:48Speaker 2: it looks like he's a little overmatched. And even you know,
- 36:52Speaker 2: he's been older for each stop throughout the miners. You know,
- 36:57Speaker 2: he didn't get to double A until he was twenty four,
- 37:01Speaker 2: and even then he was at like two sixty, you know,
- 37:04Speaker 2: popped ten homers to sin Seal type type of profile
- 37:07Speaker 2: over you know, a little over a third of a season.
- 37:10Speaker 2: So I think he's interesting. He's probably more of a
- 37:13Speaker 2: watchless kind of kind of guy for me, uh to
- 37:16Speaker 2: see what kind of eligibility he truly ends up with
- 37:19Speaker 2: it just third or does hee he you know, play
- 37:22Speaker 2: across the diamond at what point he might be a
- 37:24Speaker 2: little bit more interesting. So I'm much more watched than
- 37:26Speaker 2: see for Kemp here, and I think he's he's probably
- 37:30Speaker 2: short term for the Phillies until Harper's back up.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm in relatively the same boat with
- 37:36Speaker 1: you on Kemp that even though I did have him
- 37:39Speaker 1: a lot in my column, it was for NL only
- 37:41Speaker 1: pickups like great type of like n I'll only plug
- 37:44Speaker 1: in fifteen teamer while he's playing because he can do
- 37:48Speaker 1: a little bit of the speed in the combo. But
- 37:50Speaker 1: I think or the speed power combo. But there is
- 37:53Speaker 1: something at triple A for the Phillies where there's always
- 37:57Speaker 1: these guys that pop up Scott Kingri Dominic Brew even
- 38:00Speaker 1: like Rehyese Hoskins looked like Aaron Judge down there. So
- 38:03Speaker 1: it's like there's something that happened through that system where
- 38:07Speaker 1: it just like maybe the batter's eye is crazy good
- 38:10Speaker 1: or something. But just kind of keep that in mind
- 38:13Speaker 1: that I've always take those Phillies Triple A stats with
- 38:16Speaker 1: a grain of salt, and I think you need to
- 38:17Speaker 1: do that with kemp here too. Okay, next injury we
- 38:21Speaker 1: have is it's actually a minor league one down in
- 38:25Speaker 1: uh is it single A Yeah, it's single A ball
- 38:27Speaker 1: Lake Lynd Tigers with Bryce Venire, their first round pick
- 38:33Speaker 1: from twenty twenty four eleventh overall pick going down with
- 38:37Speaker 1: the shoulder surgery for the rest of the year. So
- 38:38Speaker 1: usually we don't cover too many like minor league injuries,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but this is I think a pretty significant one because
- 38:44Speaker 1: he was rising very quickly up dynasty lists even I mean,
- 38:48Speaker 1: he had great pedigree coming out of Harvard Westlake, just
- 38:51Speaker 1: like PCA, Lucas Giolito, Max Freed, Jack Flaherty, all those
- 38:56Speaker 1: guys you know and love, But that eleven overall pick
- 39:01Speaker 1: you always know with or you don't always know with
- 39:05Speaker 1: high school shortstops kind of like where they're going to go.
- 39:08Speaker 1: And but Verner hit the ground running in single A
- 39:12Speaker 1: hit two eighty eight, three eighty three, four forty eight
- 39:16Speaker 1: as a nineteen year old down in single A ball
- 39:18Speaker 1: with five homers, nine stone bases. It looked like he
- 39:21Speaker 1: was really starting to enter the conversation to where, like,
- 39:25Speaker 1: you know, top ten prospect, especially for Dynasty straight like
- 39:31Speaker 1: no worries about uh any sort of like salaries or
- 39:34Speaker 1: anything like that. What do you do in a situation
- 39:37Speaker 1: like this where you've got a guy who was on
- 39:40Speaker 1: a New York Rise that like, honestly, I was maybe
- 39:43Speaker 1: a couple of weeks away from auctioning him in our
- 39:44Speaker 1: auto neew league and stashing him away as a single
- 39:47Speaker 1: A player, Like he's that type of player that you
- 39:49Speaker 1: want to stash for multiple years when you can. And
- 39:55Speaker 1: shoulder entry scare the crap out of me. So like
- 39:57Speaker 1: when you've got a major one like this that knocks
- 40:00Speaker 1: him out at nineteen years old for this long, are
- 40:04Speaker 1: you significantly worried or do you see a little bit
- 40:07Speaker 1: maybe more of an arbitrage opportunity for the lower cost
- 40:11Speaker 1: for somebody that might be a little bit concerned about
- 40:15Speaker 1: that shoulder and want to back up from her near.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's probably actually where I'm at, Like
- 40:21Speaker 2: is a nineteen year old like he's he's got a
- 40:24Speaker 2: long time to recover. You know, nothing's ideal with shoulder injury.
- 40:33Speaker 2: But the good news to me is it wasn't a
- 40:36Speaker 2: throwing injury. You know it was I recall I was
- 40:42Speaker 2: reading you know that was from diving back into a
- 40:44Speaker 2: base and so the injury is not good, but it's
- 40:47Speaker 2: not necessarily gonna be something that is inherent with the
- 40:50Speaker 2: with the way that he throws, and it's gonna be reoccurring.
- 40:53Speaker 2: It's not something with the way he was swinging. So
- 40:55Speaker 2: it's it was a fluke. And so yeah, it's gonna
- 40:58Speaker 2: take time. They're gonna want to get healthy. If anything,
- 41:02Speaker 2: I do see this as a buying opportunity for a
- 41:04Speaker 2: guy like this. You just have to know that you're
- 41:07Speaker 2: extending the period by about probably a year, and that's
- 41:12Speaker 2: that's the downside here. So you're probably more in a
- 41:15Speaker 2: wait and see. I probably wouldn't do anything right now.
- 41:18Speaker 2: This is in a dynasty league or something like that.
- 41:20Speaker 2: This is ideal for September August, September time, frame something
- 41:24Speaker 2: like that when people have checked out, they move on
- 41:26Speaker 2: a fantasy to football, things like that. This is the
- 41:29Speaker 2: kind of guy you sneak through and just kind of
- 41:31Speaker 2: you know, pitch and pitch in the minor leagues and
- 41:34Speaker 2: hope that you know, he does get back and healthy
- 41:37Speaker 2: and then he's going to rebuild that stock next year.
- 41:40Speaker 2: So it's it's really unfortunate to your point, like he's
- 41:43Speaker 2: looked really really good, you know, at a ball, but
- 41:48Speaker 2: it's going to be a few years before we revisit
- 41:51Speaker 2: this conversation.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that that's a great point. So
- 41:55Speaker 1: all right, we are going to take a short break.
- 41:59Speaker 1: If you want to check the upcoming baseball card calendar releases,
- 42:03Speaker 1: go to those show notes hasn't changed too much because
- 42:06Speaker 1: the big one that we're talking about has been kind
- 42:08Speaker 1: of holding up those printer presses. We'll be back after
- 42:11Speaker 1: the break to talk twenty twenty five Top Series two.
- 42:33Speaker 1: All right, welcome back, everybody. We are going to dive
- 42:36Speaker 1: right into the conversation of Tops Series two from twenty
- 42:39Speaker 1: twenty five, released on June eleventh, as we're talking here,
- 42:44Speaker 1: and it is you know, a Hallmark release that this
- 42:47Speaker 1: is flagship Tops you had Tops Series one back in February,
- 42:52Speaker 1: if you want the overview of that set and maybe
- 42:56Speaker 1: further thoughts on the overall design, because the design did
- 43:00Speaker 1: change from series one to series two. You can go
- 43:02Speaker 1: back to that episode is number seventy eight in our
- 43:06Speaker 1: back catalog, So that can give you a little bit
- 43:08Speaker 1: of an overview of just kind of what Flagship is,
- 43:11Speaker 1: what the designs of looking like this year, because like
- 43:14Speaker 1: I said, they haven't changed. They still got the curvy lines,
- 43:17Speaker 1: the big name down the side, and then you've got
- 43:21Speaker 1: the cool positional icon in the bottom right instead of
- 43:25Speaker 1: actually labeling what the position player is directly on the
- 43:29Speaker 1: front of the card. So this is a pretty big release.
- 43:33Speaker 1: And the one thing that I would also say about
- 43:37Speaker 1: like series two compared to where it lines up in
- 43:40Speaker 1: the pantheon with Series one, is it's always a bit
- 43:43Speaker 1: of a downgrade, a little bit of a backup from
- 43:45Speaker 1: series one. Series one is packed with the best rookies
- 43:49Speaker 1: that TOPS can think of, the packed with usually most
- 43:51Speaker 1: of the stars. They will hold some backed for series two,
- 43:54Speaker 1: but all that does is create clamoring of like why
- 43:56Speaker 1: isn't so and so in series one? So TOPS likes
- 43:59Speaker 1: to get it all into Series one. It's a much
- 44:02Speaker 1: bigger release, especially because it's in like the preseason time frame.
- 44:05Speaker 1: There's not baseball, you know, going on, like just to
- 44:09Speaker 1: the mass chaos of what it is right now, so
- 44:12Speaker 1: it just creates a little bit of a different vibe.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I would say though that like this Series two checklist
- 44:19Speaker 1: is woof, it's a it's a rough one. We will
- 44:24Speaker 1: have won Soto in a Mets uniform. I think it
- 44:28Speaker 1: was also set up to really be teed up for
- 44:31Speaker 1: if Rookie Susaki had come out of the gates hot,
- 44:34Speaker 1: this would have been a much hotter product.
- 44:35Speaker 2: This was the Rokie Susaki release.
- 44:38Speaker 1: That's what this is exactly. So you will get the
- 44:40Speaker 1: bass Rokie Susaki rookie card here in Series two, along
- 44:44Speaker 1: with the myriad of parallels that we will discuss, along
- 44:47Speaker 1: with some of the autos, and you're gonna get especially
- 44:50Speaker 1: the real one autograph for Rookie Susaki in this product.
- 44:53Speaker 1: But otherwise the checklist is very ho hum, mostly also
- 44:58Speaker 1: because like the rookie the checklist in Series two is
- 45:01Speaker 1: usually the worst that they put pretty good rookies and
- 45:04Speaker 1: Series one the best rookies from the series that the
- 45:08Speaker 1: season that pop up get into update and so Series
- 45:10Speaker 1: two kind of is like a blah of rookies, but
- 45:14Speaker 1: it can also create opportunities where players fall through the
- 45:17Speaker 1: cracks a little bit, you know. I mean, Otani's had
- 45:20Speaker 1: some very significant rookie cards in series two. I believe
- 45:23Speaker 1: the want Soto. No, that was an update, my bad.
- 45:26Speaker 1: But you're also gonna get some short prints and stuff.
- 45:28Speaker 1: So we'll get into all that brew Series two coming
- 45:32Speaker 1: out on June eleventh? Here, did you buy any to rip?
- 45:36Speaker 1: And what are would you focus on in terms of
- 45:38Speaker 1: boxes to rip? What are you looking at in the
- 45:41Speaker 1: contents of each box to determine what you want to buy?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah? So I did not buy any of this time around.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Series two is unfortunately the usually the weakest of the
- 45:53Speaker 2: flagship products that said, price wise, actually wasn't too bad
- 45:58Speaker 2: on tops. I think hobby boxes ninety bucks. I think
- 46:02Speaker 2: Jumbo was one ninety somewhere somewhere in that range, and
- 46:08Speaker 2: so definitely very available. I will tell you all day,
- 46:12Speaker 2: every day, if you're going to do it, it's got
- 46:14Speaker 2: to be the Jumbo. Don't go after the hobby and
- 46:17Speaker 2: it's it's not because hobbies aren't good. It's the it's
- 46:22Speaker 2: the floor for a Jumbo is so much better, uh
- 46:25Speaker 2: than the hobby because that hobby you are getting either
- 46:28Speaker 2: a auto or a relic. In the Jumbo, you're guaranteed
- 46:32Speaker 2: the auto, and then you're gonna get two relics. Plus
- 46:36Speaker 2: you have two silver packs in the Jumbo versus one
- 46:39Speaker 2: in the hobby, and the silver packs at times have
- 46:42Speaker 2: autos in the well. And it's not uncommon to end
- 46:45Speaker 2: up getting two or three autos in the Jumbo. Not
- 46:48Speaker 2: the most common, but that's definitely very possible. And so
- 46:51Speaker 2: I think if you're gonna play the game, you have
- 46:52Speaker 2: to go after the Jumbo. More inserts, more more parallels,
- 46:57Speaker 2: more opportunities to get those cards is going to carry
- 46:59Speaker 2: the overall value of what you're what you're chasing. To
- 47:03Speaker 2: your point, it's it's tough this year. Like your your
- 47:07Speaker 2: rookie class. Outside and I know I'll call it out
- 47:11Speaker 2: right now, there are a few short print rookies that
- 47:13Speaker 2: kind of they like to sneak in here. But outside
- 47:16Speaker 2: of Sasaki. You're talking about a guy we just talked
- 47:19Speaker 2: about the first segment, Jackson Job got hurt. You got
- 47:22Speaker 2: Kumar Rocker loose on Helicunya. It's almost suggests, say JC
- 47:28Speaker 2: from the Cardinals like Kevin al Kaintara like it. Hit
- 47:32Speaker 2: is very thin, very fast as far as the guys
- 47:35Speaker 2: that you're really really hoping for. So if you're going there,
- 47:42Speaker 2: like I said by the Jumbo, also if you can
- 47:46Speaker 2: buy from Tops, there's a lot of markup on these
- 47:48Speaker 2: already with some of the secondary sites to this tune
- 47:52Speaker 2: of thirty forty fifty fifty bucks. So it's, uh, there's
- 47:56Speaker 2: definitely some inflation out there, and I think Tops is
- 48:00Speaker 2: the most reasonable, which feels a little off in itself.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're you're telling you not too excited for
- 48:07Speaker 1: all those Seth Halverson rookie cards you're about to be
- 48:10Speaker 1: pulling on this product.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Probably not?
- 48:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, so we do. Let's get into a few
- 48:16Speaker 1: of the checklist details, just because you know we've been
- 48:18Speaker 1: talking about it. You've got three hundred and fifty cards,
- 48:21Speaker 1: just like you had in Series one, rounds you out
- 48:24Speaker 1: to get you to the full seven hundred before we
- 48:26Speaker 1: get into update. And as you hinted, you've got a
- 48:30Speaker 1: pretty weak rookie class overall. But those short prints that
- 48:35Speaker 1: you've been alluding to, and we've been alluding to they've
- 48:38Speaker 1: been doing this now for a decent amount of time
- 48:41Speaker 1: that like they will Tops will go and sneak in
- 48:44Speaker 1: some of the hot rookies that will be an update
- 48:48Speaker 1: into series two as base Rookie short prints. And so
- 48:54Speaker 1: the three that we've got this time are cam Smith,
- 48:57Speaker 1: Matt Shaw, and Christian Campbell. So compared to where this
- 49:01Speaker 1: has been in the past, with the likes of you know,
- 49:03Speaker 1: Bobby Wit Junior, Jackson, Holliday Jackson, Cheerio, I believe, yes, Roriguez,
- 49:11Speaker 1: it's a little bit. It's a step back, and I
- 49:14Speaker 1: think as we get into the conversation around some of
- 49:18Speaker 1: the inserts and some of the other things, that is
- 49:20Speaker 1: something I've started to pick up a little bit more
- 49:23Speaker 1: on this product is maybe some of that fatigue of
- 49:27Speaker 1: what we've talked about in the consumer market of like
- 49:30Speaker 1: just like so much print volume, so many parallels, so
- 49:35Speaker 1: many breakers, so many different gimmicks here and there. This
- 49:40Speaker 1: set is very much a wash in gimmicks to where
- 49:43Speaker 1: it's kind of like layered upon layer upon inside joke
- 49:47Speaker 1: upon inside joke from Tops where they don't we've lost
- 49:52Speaker 1: the plot even more and more because you know, we've
- 49:54Speaker 1: got the holiday cards. We've got the short print cards.
- 49:59Speaker 1: We've got a lot of the same like gimmicks going
- 50:02Speaker 1: on with the nineteen ninety cards. We've got lots of
- 50:07Speaker 1: first pitch like things. We've got weird just relics and
- 50:12Speaker 1: logo relics and gold mirror parallels that. Like, it's it's
- 50:18Speaker 1: a lot, so we're gonna do our best to kind
- 50:20Speaker 1: of summarize it. Are you getting the same sense or
- 50:23Speaker 1: is it am I just maybe like picking up vibes
- 50:26Speaker 1: from elsewhere where, I'm just ingesting them incorrectly.
- 50:29Speaker 2: No, I think I think you're right. It's it is
- 50:31Speaker 2: one of those where they're to a degree, it's like
- 50:34Speaker 2: they're taking all the things that work well and they're
- 50:37Speaker 2: keeping them. Then they're iterating on those, plus they're adding
- 50:41Speaker 2: some other things to try out, and then the next product,
- 50:45Speaker 2: the ones that worked well they kept them, and that
- 50:47Speaker 2: like that group gets bigger, and then they try some
- 50:49Speaker 2: more things, Like they just keep doubling back on the
- 50:52Speaker 2: things that worked well, which is fine, like you want
- 50:54Speaker 2: to include those, but it's not like, you know, let's
- 50:57Speaker 2: use the real one autos first of all. I like it.
- 50:59Speaker 2: I like three real one autos that is a heritage thing,
- 51:03Speaker 2: that's that is that product, and now you start to
- 51:06Speaker 2: put it in something else and it kind of loses
- 51:08Speaker 2: a little bit of that that desirability. And I think
- 51:11Speaker 2: that's what they've been kind of doing to try to
- 51:14Speaker 2: I think the first mistake they made was, well, first
- 51:17Speaker 2: of all, is the print run. We all knew that.
- 51:18Speaker 2: We knew that was happening. But then they didn't innovate
- 51:21Speaker 2: and get enough parallels to kind of offset that. So
- 51:23Speaker 2: every pack you open was like empty, it was just
- 51:25Speaker 2: base cards. Now they've almost swung the other way, which
- 51:27Speaker 2: is like trying to fill that void, is just creating
- 51:30Speaker 2: these monstrosities of all kinds of inserts instead of like
- 51:34Speaker 2: tailoring back the print run to kind of create the demand,
- 51:37Speaker 2: to think, bring a few of the cool things forward
- 51:41Speaker 2: and try one or two things, and so hey, people
- 51:45Speaker 2: are still buying it, people are still collecting it. So
- 51:47Speaker 2: I kind of get it. But there are to me
- 51:50Speaker 2: a few too many gimmicks and it's getting honestly, really
- 51:54Speaker 2: really hard to kind of follow. And I'll call one
- 51:59Speaker 2: out and I know it's in the show notes, so
- 52:01Speaker 2: you're going to go there anyway. But companion cards, like
- 52:05Speaker 2: this is a very interesting one to me. So I
- 52:07Speaker 2: was actually at a card shop, at the local card
- 52:08Speaker 2: shop this last weekend, and I was just going through cards,
- 52:14Speaker 2: like a three for a dollar ben because I was
- 52:17Speaker 2: bored and I had twenty minutes to kill somewhere, and
- 52:19Speaker 2: I came across Jacob Wilson companion card and in the
- 52:25Speaker 2: three for a dollar that's probably a ten to fifteen
- 52:26Speaker 2: dollars card, and it like, I didn't recognize it at first.
- 52:31Speaker 2: I'm like, I look, the only reason I bought it
- 52:33Speaker 2: is because I had run across some other Jacob Wilson
- 52:36Speaker 2: parallels and I'm like, I just saw the picture. I'm like,
- 52:38Speaker 2: this looks different. And it took me like ten minutes
- 52:41Speaker 2: to figure out what the heck it was because I'm like,
- 52:43Speaker 2: is this an sp an s sp Like what what
- 52:47Speaker 2: is this? And then you know, come to find out
- 52:49Speaker 2: it's a companion card that you can only get if
- 52:51Speaker 2: you're buying like the the Costco superboxes or something like that,
- 52:56Speaker 2: and so, and it's the companion card that matches the
- 52:58Speaker 2: Jumbo card, and so it's just this really, you know,
- 53:02Speaker 2: they're just added another piece to it. So they're kind
- 53:06Speaker 2: of weird. They're kind of interesting, but it's like we
- 53:08Speaker 2: can't even have short prints. We have to have a
- 53:10Speaker 2: lot of the short prints, like like why why can't
- 53:14Speaker 2: we just call them short prints?
- 53:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, No, I'm glad that you have vindicated my feelings.
- 53:19Speaker 1: So that's a good emotional moment here on this card
- 53:22Speaker 1: to categories podcast. Okay, you ready for these different parallels.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I figured we could split this up because as we
- 53:32Speaker 1: saw with Bowman, I almost killed you with that long
- 53:35Speaker 1: like what was it like fifty three?
- 53:36Speaker 2: It was like, yeah, it was the mid fifties, it
- 53:38Speaker 2: was it was rough.
- 53:39Speaker 1: So I figured we could we could split this up.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I've been hydrating while you were going and explaining a
- 53:46Speaker 1: little bit of like kind of what's going on the
- 53:47Speaker 1: tops world. I'm going to start with the non serial
- 53:50Speaker 1: number parallels and then I will leave the numbered parallels
- 53:53Speaker 1: to you. So this is just a little bit of
- 53:56Speaker 1: like an indication of what we're talking about, because I mean,
- 53:59Speaker 1: if you've been listening to this pod, you know that
- 54:01Speaker 1: this is our stick where we read off all of
- 54:03Speaker 1: the parallels. But it also I think helps kind of
- 54:05Speaker 1: drive home a little bit of the message of what
- 54:07Speaker 1: we're talking about, because it lands a little bit different
- 54:10Speaker 1: in audio compared to seeing it on the page, which
- 54:14Speaker 1: I guess I should have also mentioned a little bit
- 54:16Speaker 1: earlier than this. But if you are looking for pictures
- 54:18Speaker 1: of these cards, go to this post on rasball dot com.
- 54:20Speaker 1: We will have them there. It will be linked in
- 54:22Speaker 1: the show notes as well. We always do that so
- 54:25Speaker 1: that you can kind of look at the pictures of
- 54:27Speaker 1: the cards that we're talking about while you're listening to
- 54:29Speaker 1: us talk about it. But let's get into these parallels
- 54:33Speaker 1: we've got off the bat. There's eleven non numbered parallels.
- 54:37Speaker 1: We've got Rainbow foil board, which is your most common
- 54:40Speaker 1: about one and eleven hobby packs calculated print run around
- 54:45Speaker 1: like sixty five hundred. We got the holiday ones, which
- 54:47Speaker 1: are going to be summer themed because we are well
- 54:50Speaker 1: into June. This is kind of the standard that they've
- 54:52Speaker 1: been doing where they do springtime and Series one summertime
- 54:57Speaker 1: and Series two Fall time in update. So that's what
- 55:02Speaker 1: we've got here. Holiday is going to be the summer
- 55:06Speaker 1: looking ones. Holofoil also one on eleven of no, not
- 55:11Speaker 1: one on eleven that's in even something different in different plasters.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Forty five hundred of those. The Diamante foils around sixteen
- 55:19Speaker 1: hundred of those only in hangars, Silver crackle foils around
- 55:23Speaker 1: thirteen hundred of those only in super se boxes, Pink
- 55:28Speaker 1: holofoils around a thousand of those. Those will be in
- 55:31Speaker 1: all sorts of different products. Sand glitter only in jumbos.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Nine hundred tops foil pattern which is similar from series one,
- 55:42Speaker 1: and we just had it in Bowman where it's going
- 55:44Speaker 1: to be like a impos tops logo and like a
- 55:48Speaker 1: rainbow foil over the top. That is only in Fanatics blasters,
- 55:52Speaker 1: So you can already tell all the different products you've
- 55:54Speaker 1: got to rip to get these different cards. Six hundred
- 55:59Speaker 1: and fifty of those Aqua rainbow foil. There's around three
- 56:02Speaker 1: hundred of those, pink demante foils, around two those those
- 56:07Speaker 1: are also only hangars, just like the diamante foils, and
- 56:09Speaker 1: then aqua hollowfoils. Around one hundred and fifteen of those.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Those have been moved over. They used to be finag
- 56:15Speaker 1: splasters only, but now they're in all sorts of different products.
- 56:18Speaker 1: That's eleven unnumbered parallels. It's a lot because it used
- 56:23Speaker 1: to be and they've even kind of carved out the
- 56:27Speaker 1: gold foil again and the silver foil no I guess
- 56:31Speaker 1: they got the rainbow foil, but they have carved out
- 56:34Speaker 1: that gold foil unless it is somewhere else in another checklist,
- 56:37Speaker 1: because it used to be you just have like rainbow foil,
- 56:40Speaker 1: gold foil, and then usually like a blue foil in
- 56:42Speaker 1: one of the actual kind of like retail products. So
- 56:46Speaker 1: we just see this continuing to expand, and I think
- 56:48Speaker 1: you're just going to see it more and more as
- 56:50Speaker 1: we get into more retail locations too.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think you call some me out right,
- 56:54Speaker 2: but I'm going to have you wait because gold rainbow
- 56:57Speaker 2: foils are not gone, They're just different. And so we're
- 57:02Speaker 2: gonna go through this because you've always been on the
- 57:04Speaker 2: train of getting those gold rainbow foils and being rare
- 57:07Speaker 2: than people think. Maybe it's just come to fruition now
- 57:10Speaker 2: in a numbered card. So let's hit the number number
- 57:13Speaker 2: toil lists. Let's go through it. You do the counting
- 57:18Speaker 2: because I'm gonna lose track. But for our serial number perils,
- 57:23Speaker 2: we have the gold out of twenty twenty five. Also
- 57:27Speaker 2: the worst card to try to search for on eBay,
- 57:29Speaker 2: by the way, because if you list out of twenty
- 57:31Speaker 2: twenty five, it's just been affect every card. It's on
- 57:35Speaker 2: the twenty twenty five. See that purple holofoils out of
- 57:38Speaker 2: two fifty, Purple rainbowfoils out of two, fifty, Red crackle
- 57:41Speaker 2: foils out of one, ninety nine blue holofoils out of one,
- 57:45Speaker 2: fifty blue rainbow foils out of one fifty. Got your
- 57:48Speaker 2: green holofoils out of ninety nine, Your green rain green
- 57:51Speaker 2: rainbow foils out of ninety nine, Your holiday hot nogs
- 57:56Speaker 2: out of ninety nine. Vintage stock out of ninety nine,
- 57:59Speaker 2: got your in the Pennance day, which is always a classic.
- 58:01Speaker 2: Out of seventy six, Black border parallels out of seventy five.
- 58:06Speaker 2: You have your canvas parallels out of fifty. Gold diamante
- 58:09Speaker 2: foils out of fifty, Gold holofoils out of fifty. You
- 58:13Speaker 2: have your gold rainbow foils out of fifty. Only in
- 58:16Speaker 2: a hobby and jumble. That's why they make their comeback.
- 58:18Speaker 2: They finally got numbered for you. Holiday beach balls out
- 58:22Speaker 2: of fifty. A little a little far there, Orange holofoils
- 58:25Speaker 2: out of twenty five, Orange diamante foils out of twenty five,
- 58:28Speaker 2: Orange rainbow foils out of twenty five. Memorial they camo
- 58:32Speaker 2: out of twenty five holiday beach umbrellas out of twenty five.
- 58:36Speaker 2: Don't worry, we saw more out of twenty five. You
- 58:38Speaker 2: have your wood parallels there as well, going to out
- 58:41Speaker 2: of ten, black diamante foils, black holofoils, black rainbow foils,
- 58:45Speaker 2: and you're at clear acetates out of ten clear astates
- 58:49Speaker 2: only available in hobby. Out of five. You have your
- 58:53Speaker 2: fireworks Holiday fireworks, Red diamante foils, red holofoils, and red
- 58:58Speaker 2: rainbow foils are all your numbered above one of one.
- 59:02Speaker 2: But it's not one of one. I consider this one
- 59:04Speaker 2: of nine. There are nine different one of ones. You
- 59:07Speaker 2: have your printing plates Psyam AGENTA, yellow and black. You
- 59:09Speaker 2: have your first card off the line. You have your
- 59:11Speaker 2: foil fractor, platinum, holofoil, Holiday waves and waves. That is
- 59:17Speaker 2: all of your serial numbered parallels for Tops twenty twenty
- 59:20Speaker 2: five Series two.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a lot. So that was thirty three
- 59:27Speaker 1: non one of ones, six different one of ones. That
- 59:31Speaker 1: brings the total of fifty parallels, and we didn't even
- 59:34Speaker 1: touch There's still also golden mirror short print parallels along
- 59:39Speaker 1: just like we've had before. There's the team color border
- 59:43Speaker 1: variation parallels. There's the true photo variation parallels, which is
- 59:49Speaker 1: no border on it, it's just the photo. And we
- 59:52Speaker 1: have that player number variation is back from series one
- 59:55Speaker 1: as well too, So like each one, so form trying
- 59:59Speaker 1: to think the top my head real quick a number
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: of a player, because that is not always the easiest.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: For example, the Roki Sasaki one, there'll be eleven of
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: those parallels.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: And.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Is there maybe another one I'm missing too, let's see color. Okay,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: there's also an no, I don't think so, so I
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: got it.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I think you got it all.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I think I nailed it. Yeah, And so yeah, it
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: is a lot, and so I hope we emphasize that
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: every time because that is this used to be even
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: when we started this podcast two years ago, it used
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: to be like thirty ish and it's it ballooned up
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: to fifty parallels at this point. It just kind of
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: shows you how many different products there are, how many
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: different spots you can bide in, and just like how
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: insane it is to try to go for a rainbow,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: which is why every time I see when I read it,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: I immediately give it an up vote, because that isn't
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: as impressive as hell to put together nowadays.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and what's interesting. I also think that there's like
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: some i'm gonna call it old school collectors from like
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: years ago that is still like like if you actually
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: read the checklist and you heard me as we went through,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: and we're like, okay, I've got seven different variations of
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: green cards, Like people are saying, no, I want the
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: true green. I want the true blue, like I want
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: the just pure blue refractor. I don't want the diamante,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: I don't want the you know, tops logo variation. I
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: don't want the sand glitter like. I just want the
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: pure colored parallels. And so there is kind of like
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: a hidden gem there for some folks, and then you
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: still to get into the ones that still kick me.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Is like the beach balls and the waves and the
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: you know it's it's just it's just funny because you
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: pull something like that, you're like it's gimmicking, and then
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: you're sitting here going holiday fireworks out of five are like,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: wait a second, can I please trade that in for
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: like the red foil version, Like because I hit my
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: out of five and it's got fireworks on it.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Yes, yes, the like lowest numbered card you've ever hit
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: and it's a dorky like firework parallel. Yeah that it's
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: been happen to lots.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Of people exactly.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Okay, well that covers the kind of like bass checklist.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Let's move a little bit into those inserts and autos
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: and those chase cards that we're looking at. So let's
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: start with the inserts. We're still in the nineteen ninety
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: design set, and we're still doing those no name parallels
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: of thirty five, which are really they're super popular. So
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I mean, I think Tops did nail it. I think
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: it's a lot that I don't honestly think that they're
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: gonna hold a lot of In the long run, those
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: will really, I think be a wash and everything else
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: that we've talked about. There's no name nineteen ninety inserts
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: set parallels, but they are cool, so those will still
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: be there. And I think just the ninety set and
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: design has been really popular over what overall, so people
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: have been loving that. It's really fantastic and all the
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Mojo chromes. This one, the next one's gonna be I think,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: really fun. There's all Kings inserts, which is short printed
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: just like the all ass was from Series one, as
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: they had been doing all aces now for a couple
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: of years and they finally switched it over give Hitters
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: their du Mike Trout reinstead. Is that which you can
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: say like reposted the instagram from Tops to show this
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: because he was really excited. Honestly, they might have done
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: this in collaboration with Trout because Tops, you know, has
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: a buddy buddy system there with Trout in terms of
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: like he loves to collect cards and everything like that.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: What do you think about these all Kings and what
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: do you the all Aces? I think we gave them
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: a little short shrift maybe back in series one because
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I don't know if I necessarily recognize how short printed
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: they were and they're.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Beautiful, Yeah, I think I think you're right. I think
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: that's the thing, is that like the all Aces, like before,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: they've just been kind of like a regular insert and
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: so in prior years and so now they actually were
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: short printed. It it was just like, oh wait a second,
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I didn't realize what we were really dealing with here.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: And they mean these are beautiful cars, absolutely beautiful cars,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: whether it's you know, the numbered variations or or not,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: like the one of one you know it's gold. They
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: absolutely pop off the you know off the screen when
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: you when you look at them, I can't imagine what
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: they look like in person. But like, these things are
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: going hot already. I'm gonna I'm gonna quizz you down
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: because I know you haven't looked quite yet. But what
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: was the price of Let's let's go with. The very
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: first ones sold on eBay was a James Wood rookie
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: card all kings, not numbered, just the just the the
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: base basic one. What what what did you think that
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: one for?
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And so we can also tee this up a
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: little bit. These are case hits. There's around two hundred
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: and fifty of them a piece. They are one in
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: every seven hundred ninety eight hobby packs, two fifty I'm
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: actually gonna say two hundred and fifty bucks.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: You're not two far off. Four hundred dollars is the
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: first one went? And you know they're now that they're
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: coming out, like the Lindor went for like one eighty
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: five five, and you're you know, it's hard to tell
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: because a lot of our best offers they're going, but
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: you know that's Attisse was a one to fifty best
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: offer accepted, So they're probably the one to one to
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: fifty range for just your bass player rookies, probably two
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: fifty to three hundred. Right now, those will drop you.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: We're talking release day prices here, they're going to go down.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: But you know, the one of one Plea Alonzo already
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: sold and I'd have to go look up what actually
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: sold for, but it was like twelve hundred best offer accepted.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: But even those like the one on ones just look
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: absolutely brilliant with the gold baked into the all of kings.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: So I think they're awesome cards. And that that's where
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I said earlier, like TOPS sometimes takes what they did
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: and does it really well again, and then they just
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: add more things on, just try to you know, make
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: make a run out finding something else that that really works.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: And so I think it did a really good job
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: with with this one.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. And I think the other thing
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: that they did really well with was is the K
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: zone and backwards K zone die cut short prints. So
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: these are around two and fifty four the or No.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: One hundred for the backwards K zone inserts and five
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: hundred for the KSON inserts. So it's actually like they
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: kind of turned it on its head where these were
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the type of pictures that would have been in like
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: the all aces again. But usually I'm not a huge
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: fan of die cuts, just because they can be a
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: little gimmicky, and honestly, they're also hard to store, like
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: unless they're like those really cool ones from like those
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: flamethrower parallels from the nineties or like the die cut
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: the laser just went ham on the card and there's
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: like all sorts of little like flames and stuff like that.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I'm a little lukewarm on die cuts, but I think
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: they nailed these between the forwards K being the less
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: rare short print and then the backwards K being the
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: more rare short print with all these pictures, this is
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: really great work. I think from tops what about you?
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Yeah, to your point, like that is art within itself.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: Thinking through that kind of like you could just see
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: like this was an intern's idea like or something like that,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Like he goes into the bosses office like I got
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: an idea and he brings out there like like why
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: have we not thought of this before? Like it is
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: a really cool idea. I'm kind of with you. Die cuts.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: They're tough, they don't stay well. It's really hard to
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: get the centering right on those things. And there's there's
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: not one, there's not four corners, there's seventeen corners. It gets,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: it gets tough, and so I think they look fantastic.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: And I do think just the the concept that they
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: thought to go, you know, regular K backwards K was
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: was really well done. So loving loving the K zone
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: inserts this time around, so that we're getting a few
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: few kudos here the tops for sure.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think also just to kind of call
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: those out because those are the type of cards too
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: where you know, sometimes if people are just ripping this
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: product in mass and they haven't checked the checklist, they don't.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: These aren't numbered short prints, so they might people might
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: think they're just regular inserts. They might fall into dollar
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: bins or bargain bins. Just kind of keep your eyes
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: open out there for those all kings, those K zone
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: and then those yeah K zone forward K K zone
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: backward K die cuts, because I think they will end
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: up in some stacks they probably shouldn't. A few of
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: the other inserts sets that I wanted to highlight. We
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: have first pitch back again and it's a very very
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: weak checklist. It's Ricky Henderson and four reality TV stars,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: which the autos. This is the type of auto where
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: you can't always tell where which direction will go, if
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: it'll be totally worthless or it becomes a hot collector's item.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: That this happens in Alan and Ginter as well, So
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: just kind of keep that in mind that, like, I
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: don't think there's a n be too much of a
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: market for these first pitch cards with reality stars on them,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: but who knows, I could be wrong about that too.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: We've also got Summer Superstars, which every once in a
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: while there's an insert set from tops where it's just like, man,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: I miss big League and this is one of those
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: that would fit perfectly into Big League, which was just
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: like campy cartoony set. And then you've also got some
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: of the standards that are always back stars of MLB,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: which will be like one per pack. You've got the
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: social media followbacks still, you've got the home field advantages
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: still going forward in terms of you having the base sets,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: and then the legendary sets which are getting more and
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: more watered down as time goes on, just kind of
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: like those Bowman firsts. So any of those sets or
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: any other insert sets really kind of popping out to
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: you that we haven't maybe discussed.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to call out too, and just impossible
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: to find the actual names because there's so many things
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: to go through here, and so I'm gonna gonna start
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: with one from the memorabilia side of things. Uh, And
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: so relics are always kind of a tough thing when
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: you talk about the hobby boxes and things like that,
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: but I think they did a really good job this
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: year with two different relics, one being the rounding the
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: base relic, which is actually taking a piece of a
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: base from a game. I didn't check to see if
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: those game used or game warn Sorry bad joke there,
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: but I think that is definitely one where they got
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: it right. Those if you if you haven't seen them,
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: they look absolutely fantastic and that that does give the
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: the relics kind of a more high end feel, which
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: is kind of kind of unique for what they've what
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: they've been able to do. You also have some kind
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: of like auto bat relics, like the heavy lumber relics.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Those are much harder to find because they're auto relic
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: but those it's kind of like the bat knobs or
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: the bat barrels and some of the other products. It's
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: not as cool as those, but there's also cool one.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: But the insert I wanted to call out was the
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: all positions card, And just being a weird baseball nerd, like,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: these are really cool. You talked, You've talked about how
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: this is the kind of the first time that they've
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: put the you know, field in the corner and you know,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: put the player's position on that. And then these are
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: the five players that have played all nine positions in
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: a single game in MLB history, and that is just,
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: you know, a impressive move in itself. And these are
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: not big names, but these are extremely rare. They're one
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: in sixty two thousand hobby boxes print run probably about ten.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: You're talking big names. Scott Sheldon from the Rangers, Andrew
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Romine from the Tigers, Shane Halter from the Tigers, says
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: our Tovar from the Twins, and Bert kept Arras from
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: the back in the day with the Kansas City Athletics.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: But what I think is really cool about that is
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: that they then back this up with a one of
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: one booklet card where they all signed and autoed that,
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: and that is just the weirdest, gimmicky, but cool card
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: at the end of the day. So I think that
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: they did some some cool things here with the all
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: positions and the base relics. I think those are those
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: are good moves, even though we kind of gave them
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: a hard time on some things, like stars of them
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: will be like, come on, we're a little overdone at
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: this point.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree that those all positions are awesome,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and like that booklet is like a piece of MLB
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: history as well, Like that is something really special to
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: chase down. And I mean, I think in terms of
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: the autos that we're looking at here too, I think
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: you've got another one there where the other kind of
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: chase will be the Rickwood Relic autos from Paul Goldschmid
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: and Victor Scott from when they played at Rickwood Field
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: against the Giants last summer. So we had a few
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: in the Series one product again, but these are gonna
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: be hot commodities as well, just because of the same
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: sort of like level of MLB history tie in that,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: like it just fits in any collectition, especially if you're
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: a Cardinals fan. They've also got we're still trying to
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: like sort this out from the auto side, I guess
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: we're already kind of opening up the discussion here on
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: the autographs that we're looking at, because the Saint Louis
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Cardinals have their own like set of real one autos
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: and we're trying to unpack where it is because there's
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: not too much information about it. We've seen the Miles
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: miclist one come up on eBay already. It's a one
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: of one and it is like a parallel of his
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: where he's dressed in a cowboy hat and stuff. So
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I'm excited to see what the other Cardinals ones are.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: But maybe one of the interns was from Saint Louis
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: that put this product together that you're talking about, because
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: it is like a very strangely Saint Louis Cardinals heavy product.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're absolutely right with the Rickwood relics, with the
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the Cardinals variation auto checklists with very little details like
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: there's some there are some cool things. So hey, if
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: you're a Cardinals fan, maybe this is the right one
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: to get a break in because there's a lot of
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: little hidden gems. You know, I'm not a big fan
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: on calling out joining the breaks, but they don't have
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: big rookies, they don't have anything else, you know, huge
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: within this promin products. Sorry, tembaus say JC. But there
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: there's all these kind of like little hidden hidden things
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: about that where you might just hit and hit a
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: gold mine. So definitely fun to search through. And it'll
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: be fun to watch to see what the rest of
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: that Cardinals variation auto checklist is. Is it just Miles,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Mike Lists and the cowboy outfit but everybody else in
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: normal clothes, Like I what, like there's zero details. Is
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: it's just like the weird outfits that they were forced
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: to RaSE each other and show up to games. I
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: don't know, So that's gonna be a fun one to watch.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, And I mean I think you actually might
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: be onto something with like just because the JAC is
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: the only like real standout Cardinals name that I would
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: say that the usually like like five teams that are
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: in like a different echelon, it feels like in terms
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: of pricing on whenever you're just in breaks and in bids,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: and it's the Yankees, the Mets, the Red Sox, the Dodgers,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: and the Cardinals. I mean, the Cubs can be up
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: there too, but that's usually like the five that are
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: like another echelon above in terms of the collection game.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: And so I do wonder if maybe Top's kind of
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: considered that, especially when you're looking at if you get
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: the Dodgers in a break, you're polan Otani and Sasaki,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: you know, autos left and right here. Okay, some of
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: the other autos that we've got are, like we said,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: the real one autos, so that'll be especially highlighted on
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: the stars within this product, like your Junior Kmonaro's, your
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Wan Soto's, and some of the bigger rookies. You've also
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: got world champion autos for all the Dodgers, they've got
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: their own set. So it does fascinate me. At some
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: point about the show, Heyo Tani, like Auto count Mike
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Trout kind of started getting into this territory too, where
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: the exclusive signing deal that they've had with Tops has
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: really diluted the market for the autographs that it's only
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: going to stretch more and more. That I mean, at
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: this point, just about every insert set seems to have
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: an Otani auto that like that dude must just go
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: home at night and just hang out with decoy and
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: sign autographs. It's like all he does. So it's probably
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: the most boring life you could ever imagine for show
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: hoo toney. But you've also got Finax Authentic Redemptions, which
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: is a pretty I think cool thing as well too.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: It's a card where you would redeem it straight up
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: to fanatics for assigned jersey, lots of other little relics, autos, inserts,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: kind of duels and other booklets, and you've got your
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: one of one name tags and other things that are
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: usually standards. But anything else that he really stands out
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: to you as another chase auto or set or specific
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: card out of something else that we might not have
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: talked about.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the only one that I'm gonna gonna
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: call out here is the Sydney City Connect Swatch autos,
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: you know City Connect cards. Every time they do those
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: just really kind of jump out. And it's a thirty
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: five cards set print run expected to be around forty five.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: And you've got autos from just, you know, a really
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: good array of players across the league. And it does
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: and I've not checked, but just glanced at the check
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: with does seem like they kind of got somebody from
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: pretty much every team and they didn't go always with
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: like the biggest star, because like your your Dodgers. Here
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: you have Andy pies, your your braves. You have a
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: J Smith Shaver and Matt Olsen uh and Chris Sales.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: So they've actually got a few of men here. Got
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Novell Marte from the Red sal Freleer from the Brewers,
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: Like it's it's just kind of uh interesting one. They
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: got your buddy Gavin sheets in there, and so I
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: I'm the White Sox too. On the White Sox that
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: one might have to come home to daddy. Yeah, So
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: the city Connect autos are you know, city Connect is
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: always just a kind of a fun thing. But it's
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: just they're very colorful, really cool designs, and I think
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: that those ones are just really neat neat cards that
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: they've been able to do. Over the years. Pretty much
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: anything with City Connect has really played well. So there's
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: a ton of different other things out there. There are
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: so many different checklists here. Absolutely love some of the
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: you know, nineteen ninety all Star checklists coming out of
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: the silver packs where you're getting the kind of the
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: Mojo autos. Generally those are sticker ados, so not as
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: cool as kind of like the real ones. But I
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: think again you've kind of hit the big ones. But
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: I'm loving all the relics, and we're loving the rounding,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: the bases running, loving the rick wood, the heavy lumber,
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: all those kind of things. The swatches with City connect
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: I think they did a really good job with that
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: combination of the patch and auto within this set.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think, I mean we opened
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: a little negatively on Series two, but there's a lot
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: of fun stuff in terms of the inserts and relics
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: and autos.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: That like the names aren't huge.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Exactly, yeah, but especially even like because I do think
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: this is gonna be one of those products that because
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: the checklist isn't so great that like, over time, I
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: think the prices probably won't be too inflated. So if
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: you do start seeing Series two twenty twenty five jumbos
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: like in the Wild in a couple of years or
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Hello in the future, if you're listening to this podcast
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: in some future date and you're like about to rip
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: a series too jumbo that you found in the wild,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun I think for you. All right,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: let's say I save the best for last though, because
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: I think we might have a candidate for Card of
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: the Year also in this product, kind of adding to
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: the fun of this because I do think maybe TOPS
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: also saw the checklist and they knew they had to
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: put some of these extra efforts. And this boils down
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: to just maybe like the synthesis of the Golden Mirror
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: super short print parallels as Darren Baker has a rookie
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: card for the Washington Nationals based in the just kind
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: of base checklist, it's number five eleven. What they do
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: with the Golden Mirror super short prints is they always
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: choose like a cool photo, either like something more fun
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: or more historic, or just like shows a little more personality,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: and they landed it here. Tops did with the Darren
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Baker short print parallel because it is a picture of
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: him as a batboy for the Giants, all Giants them.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: This is gonna be a huge chase card for Giants
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: fans out there because it is a super short print,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: and it also harkens back to just like the indelible
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: memory of when Darren Baker during that World Series against
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the Angels was at home plate trying to pick up
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: the bad and had to be ushered away from that
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: plate immediately and just looks cute as all get out
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: in the oversized Giants uniform with the bat here in
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: this photo. What do you think I could this be
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: the nomination for Card of the Year.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm not gonna go that far, but
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: it's close. It's close. And you have to also feel
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: bad for Darren Baker, like him and JT. Snow like
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: go down in like infamy and like his best card
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: is him as a kid, Like I probably got to
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: hurt a little bit, but it absolutely just everybody that
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: like remembers that moment, remembers that moment if him getting
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: pulled out of the baseline by JT. Snow and that
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: this is all, you know, just brings back kind of
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: from many of us years and years ago, just watching
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: baseball growing up, going up around the game, whether you
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: were bat boy yourself or you know, your father was playing,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: whatever it was, It just like takes you back to
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: that time. So this is absolutely a chase card. I
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: don't know if any even have gotten pulled yet, but
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: I would have to believe these are going to take
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: a pretty penny on the open market. From a golden
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: mirror perspective.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, one has been pulled and already sold an eBay
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: one hundred dollars by it now, I feel like that
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: could have gone much higher. Yeah, I think that guy
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: might short change himself.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: I think you're correct. I think that these If I
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: was to put a number, I would probably say this
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: is probably in the two fifty three hundred range.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, especially on rip day. So that's another
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: kind of factor. If you're listening to this close to
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: rip day, get your cards up there as quick as
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: you can if you want to sell them, because it's
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: only it's a sharp drop off from there. But yeah,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I would have listed that Baker card for three hundred
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: dollars minimum, So it's I think it's going to settle
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: probably around one hundred ish dollars. Looking at where all
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: the other kind of image variations have been. And this
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: is also like the type of card where I mean
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: the Giants are in there too. There's lots of hardcore
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Giants fans and then just like people who collect goofy
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Ass cards will be all over this one as well.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: So the Darren Baker Goldenmeure short print parallel, it will
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: be in the post on rasball dot com because I
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: will just harvest the picture from that Evay listing and
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: put it in my rasp ball post. Check it out
