Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Weary. We welcome to our last film Evils. I love them.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Hello everyone, and welcome to the Culture Cast X, the
- 1:16Speaker 2: Projection Booth of the Projection Booth X Culture Cast whichever
- 1:19Speaker 2: floats your boat. I am one of your hosts, Cristachue
- 1:22Speaker 2: of the Culture Casts, and I'm joined by my good
- 1:23Speaker 2: friend all the way from a shopping cart barreling down
- 1:27Speaker 2: a hill somewhere out in the deserts of California, somewhere
- 1:31Speaker 2: your friend of mine, the host of the Projection Booth,
- 1:33Speaker 2: Mike White.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Why is it going to be crunchy peanut butter?
- 1:38Speaker 4: Why's it got to be diarrhea?
- 1:40Speaker 2: That was the question that I was asking, because diarrhea's funnier, duh.
- 1:44Speaker 2: On this episode of the Projection Booth Culture Cast Crossover,
- 1:48Speaker 2: which is normally when we talk about new movies, we're
- 1:51Speaker 2: gonna be talking about a new movie, or at least
- 1:53Speaker 2: half of a new movie, folks, because on this episode
- 1:56Speaker 2: we're talking about Jackass, best and last, the most recent
- 2:00Speaker 2: and according to Johnny Knoxville several times in the film,
- 2:04Speaker 2: the last Jackass movie that we will ever see.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I don't know if I believe him.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I don't know if you believe him, but we may
- 2:10Speaker 2: talk about it, but yeah, we're gonna be talking about
- 2:12Speaker 2: twenty twenty six's Jackass, Best and last. So once again,
- 2:15Speaker 2: this film is directed by Jeff Tremaine, who has more
- 2:18Speaker 2: or less, I believe, directed every single one of these
- 2:20Speaker 2: films from the first one until this one. He was
- 2:22Speaker 2: also directly involved with the production.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Of the show.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It is a show, a movie based on the show Jackass,
- 2:28Speaker 2: which at this point is just movies based on movies
- 2:31Speaker 2: because the show has not been on since what the
- 2:34Speaker 2: mid two thousands, ran for like four, four or five seasons.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And yeah, this is once again a stunt escapade film
- 2:41Speaker 2: with the Jackass guys. But unlike the last couple films,
- 2:44Speaker 2: this one is half of a clip show, half of
- 2:47Speaker 2: a new movie because we are well unfortunately unable to
- 2:51Speaker 2: feature some people in this movie because they have passed
- 2:53Speaker 2: away or no longer work in the Jackass kind of
- 2:57Speaker 2: swear of people. So, Mike, I am very curious thoughts
- 3:00Speaker 2: on Jackass as a fan of the franchise, because I
- 3:03Speaker 2: know we both are obviously or we wouldn't be talking
- 3:05Speaker 2: about this, and thoughts on this final film.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Well, I never watched the Jackass TV show. I really.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I went to the first Jackass movie under protest. I
- 3:17Speaker 5: was my friend Dion Conflict was in Detroit hanging out
- 3:21Speaker 5: with my wife and I and he just kept talking
- 3:24Speaker 5: about how much he loved the Jackass movie. We needed
- 3:28Speaker 5: something to do and it was playing at a dollar show,
- 3:31Speaker 5: so we went against my better judgment, and I absolutely
- 3:36Speaker 5: loved it. I had such a good time watching that
- 3:38Speaker 5: first Jackass film, and I went back.
- 3:41Speaker 3: And I did watch some of the episodes. It was
- 3:44Speaker 3: actually a little tough to.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Find good at good quality versions of those episodes. I
- 3:51Speaker 5: wasn't going to buy the DVDs. I'm sure they were
- 3:53Speaker 5: put out on DVD at some point, but watched a
- 3:57Speaker 5: lot of those. I never watched What the Wild Boys
- 4:02Speaker 5: or any of the like offshoots of those kind of things.
- 4:05Speaker 5: But I have gone to see every single one of
- 4:08Speaker 5: these Jackass movies and have even watched the zero point
- 4:11Speaker 5: five versions that they've released since then. So I'm yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 5: I'm down for these movies. I was a little disappointed
- 4:19Speaker 5: in this one because you've been saying fifty percent new,
- 4:22Speaker 5: fifty percent old. I think you're being a little generous.
- 4:26Speaker 5: It feels what's more like forty percent new if even
- 4:30Speaker 5: that much, I'm curious somebody's going to break it down
- 4:32Speaker 5: for somebody's going to do like a mathematical percentage of
- 4:36Speaker 5: old clips to new clips. But yeah, it felt like
- 4:39Speaker 5: I was seeing a lot of stuff that I've seen before.
- 4:42Speaker 3: But yeah, what do you think?
- 4:43Speaker 2: Christ So, like yourself, I did not watch the Jackass
- 4:48Speaker 2: series when it was on. It was on from U
- 4:51Speaker 2: two thousand to two thousand and one, which is crazy
- 4:54Speaker 2: three very short season. I did watch it in college,
- 4:57Speaker 2: though I did have it on DV in college, and
- 5:00Speaker 2: so we would watch it in college, and there are
- 5:03Speaker 2: some bits from the show that are still some of
- 5:06Speaker 2: the funniest bits, in my opinion, that they've ever done.
- 5:08Speaker 2: And so when the movies came out, because the first
- 5:13Speaker 2: movie came out in two thousand and two, the second
- 5:16Speaker 2: movie came out in two thousand and six, right because
- 5:19Speaker 2: right as I was sixteen. So I don't think that
- 5:21Speaker 2: was the one I saw in theaters. I think the
- 5:23Speaker 2: first one I saw in theaters was Jackass three D,
- 5:26Speaker 2: which I think is still my favorite one. It still
- 5:28Speaker 2: has some of the funniest bits. Jackass three D is
- 5:32Speaker 2: the one that has I believe Jackass three D is
- 5:35Speaker 2: the one that has the giant hand, which is one
- 5:38Speaker 2: of the funnier things. I mean, I know, why would
- 5:42Speaker 2: you hold that fucking soup? I still never understand why
- 5:46Speaker 2: Bam Margera, of all people, was like, yea, let me
- 5:48Speaker 2: just hold the soup. Hey, what the fly? And fuck
- 5:50Speaker 2: were you thinking? Cause it's like, what do you think?
- 5:54Speaker 2: Really think that they want tomato soup?
- 5:55Speaker 4: Back there? They're not being around These guys must.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Be like have to be on edge constantly because you
- 6:01Speaker 2: just don't know, especially when you're on set for the movie.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I think Eric Andre has said something to that effect
- 6:06Speaker 2: when he talked about being in Jackass Forever. It's like
- 6:09Speaker 2: you can never be on like you can never be
- 6:11Speaker 2: like calm because there's always something going on. And again,
- 6:14Speaker 2: they get really good footage obviously, but a lot of
- 6:17Speaker 2: it is really carefully planned and curated and choreographed because
- 6:22Speaker 2: Johnny Knoxville is, you know, the master of ceremonies. He's
- 6:25Speaker 2: the pt Barnum of this group, as it were. But
- 6:28Speaker 2: I am probably being generous because I will say for me,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and I'm not a big fan of Jackass number two,
- 6:36Speaker 2: primarily because it's the one that's like really gross, like
- 6:39Speaker 2: really gross. That's the one where I think, uh, Dave
- 6:43Speaker 2: England eats like a like a cow patty. It's either
- 6:46Speaker 2: a cow patty or a horse patty. He eats it
- 6:47Speaker 2: and he just like eats it and it's just fucking disgusting.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That's also the one where Steve O I think, is
- 6:52Speaker 2: drinking horseges, which is also fucking discussed like this is.
- 6:57Speaker 2: That's just really gross. And so the second one is
- 7:00Speaker 2: my least favorite one, or at least it was up
- 7:02Speaker 2: until now. I can't even in good conscience suggest people
- 7:06Speaker 2: go see this in theaters unless you're a big fan
- 7:08Speaker 2: of Jackass, because so much of this is just in
- 7:11Speaker 2: other movies or on the internet already, and that that's
- 7:16Speaker 2: a real bummer for me as someone who likes Jackass
- 7:18Speaker 2: as much as I do, because again, like I said,
- 7:20Speaker 2: Jackass three is genuinely a movie I will put on
- 7:23Speaker 2: sometimes and just enjoy because it has some really funny moments,
- 7:27Speaker 2: some funny sketches, and some funny like one liners that
- 7:30Speaker 2: they say to one another, and Johnny Knoxville's energy is
- 7:33Speaker 2: always always infectious is as far as I'm concerned.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Oh yeah, there were moments while I was watching this
- 7:40Speaker 5: documentary though, well, and I'm calling it a documentary. I mean,
- 7:44Speaker 5: what else would you call it.
- 7:45Speaker 4: It is a show.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It's half of a documentary and half of a new movie.
- 7:51Speaker 2: It is a clip show.
- 7:52Speaker 4: But yeah, like I you know what it feels like.
- 7:55Speaker 4: It feels like.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Jackass Forever and a half because, like you said, those
- 7:59Speaker 2: half and here's the thing, I love those half movies.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Some of those half movies are better than the movies
- 8:05Speaker 2: that they actually are, the halfs of. I'm thinking of
- 8:10Speaker 2: two and a half and one and a half specifically,
- 8:13Speaker 2: this is like four and a half. It really is
- 8:15Speaker 2: like there's so little here in ways of like new
- 8:19Speaker 2: things that I'm disappointed, but at the same time, like
- 8:23Speaker 2: what are you gonna do? Like this is what they
- 8:25Speaker 2: put out.
- 8:26Speaker 5: When they started the movie with a clip that they
- 8:29Speaker 5: couldn't show on MTV where Johnny's shooting himself, I was like, Okay,
- 8:35Speaker 5: this is great, They're going to do a documentary about Jackass.
- 8:38Speaker 5: And then they did the opening and everything. I love
- 8:43Speaker 5: the opening with that kind of Jamroqui type floor that
- 8:46Speaker 5: they're doing, and then they do like a montage and
- 8:51Speaker 5: I'm just like I'm still prepared. I'm like, okay, a
- 8:53Speaker 5: montage of old clips. Okay, this is cool, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 5: playing the classic theme and everything, and then they go
- 8:59Speaker 5: into the new one with the robot giving the bricktil
- 9:04Speaker 5: exam the colonoscopy, and I was just like, okay, well
- 9:08Speaker 5: this is new stuff. And then they kind of go
- 9:10Speaker 5: back into old stuff and I was like, wait, wait,
- 9:12Speaker 5: what is this movie? And I no one had said
- 9:16Speaker 5: to me this is a documentary about Jackass. But while
- 9:19Speaker 5: I was watching this movie, I started getting the feeling
- 9:21Speaker 5: why wasn't this a documentary about Jackass? Like this is
- 9:24Speaker 5: the time while most of these guys are still alive.
- 9:29Speaker 5: They have no problem showing you know, clips with Ryan Done,
- 9:32Speaker 5: they have no problem showing clips with Bam. But it's like,
- 9:36Speaker 5: why don't you just do a documentary about this phenomenon?
- 9:39Speaker 5: I mean, has that already happened? Have they done a documentary?
- 9:42Speaker 5: Because I'm sure they have tons of clips that they
- 9:45Speaker 5: can't show and things that they can revisit and talk
- 9:48Speaker 5: about how well or non well they went. I would
- 9:52Speaker 5: I think that that would be a really nice way
- 9:55Speaker 5: to go out rather than this kind of half hearted,
- 9:58Speaker 5: frankly half hearted thing.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I did.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I have fun watching this movie, absolutely, I had a
- 10:04Speaker 5: blast watching this movie. What I recommend it to other people? Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 5: probably not like you're saying. I mean, I'll wait until
- 10:11Speaker 5: the actual four point five maybe comes out. But I
- 10:15Speaker 5: was just like, yeah, all right, you know, like I
- 10:18Speaker 5: kept saying, like I've seen this before, I've seen this,
- 10:20Speaker 5: but have I seen this?
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:21Speaker 5: I saw this before. And then it just made me
- 10:23Speaker 5: remember some of the other things, Like I kept wondering,
- 10:26Speaker 5: like why isn't Chris doing more stuff? Like he does
- 10:30Speaker 5: that great half naked or sorry, fully naked high jump,
- 10:34Speaker 5: but it's like other than that, it's like, yeah, he's
- 10:37Speaker 5: Bunny the lifeguard here and there, but it's like he's
- 10:39Speaker 5: barely doing anything. The one woman that's in the team,
- 10:43Speaker 5: I don't remember her doing much of anything at all
- 10:45Speaker 5: other than in the opening credits getting the electrical shock
- 10:48Speaker 5: on her tongue. But I'm like, why is she even here?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Like I don't see everybody represented equally, and I don't know,
- 10:55Speaker 5: maybe I'm just of course, you want your Steve, oh,
- 10:58Speaker 5: you want Johnny like I on Chris, and I on
- 11:02Speaker 5: Chris doing some naked dancing, ripping off the clothes, ripping
- 11:06Speaker 5: off the pants and doing his dance. You know, like,
- 11:09Speaker 5: if you're gonna do the hits, give me more of
- 11:11Speaker 5: the hits.
- 11:12Speaker 4: So I misspoke.
- 11:13Speaker 2: There is no one and a half because Johnny Knoxville
- 11:16Speaker 2: said there will not be a half for this movie
- 11:18Speaker 2: either this is one. Are the only ones that are
- 11:21Speaker 2: not getting half movies? Four has a half one already,
- 11:24Speaker 2: it's on Netflix. But I I think I watched it,
- 11:27Speaker 2: but I couldn't tell you if I remember it or not.
- 11:29Speaker 5: It has a half because this isn't it?
- 11:31Speaker 4: No, this is five?
- 11:33Speaker 5: This is five? Oh?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Wow? Ye?
- 11:34Speaker 3: Did I miss a movie?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Forever is the one that had Eric Andre Wow? That
- 11:40Speaker 2: came out in twenty twenty two. Yeah, I saw that
- 11:42Speaker 2: one in either see it. That's the one where Knoxville
- 11:44Speaker 2: gets shot out of the cannon.
- 11:45Speaker 4: With the wings.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Okay, I think I wear the silence of.
- 11:49Speaker 4: The Lambs segment in this film comes from for sure.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Then I did see that, which I was just like,
- 11:54Speaker 5: why tell me the difference between the sequence that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: That there is not one there is to ask, I
- 12:02Speaker 2: know what you're asking, and the danger room or the
- 12:05Speaker 2: escape room in this and the one in that nothing
- 12:08Speaker 2: actually the one and that's better. I can't believe they
- 12:10Speaker 2: showed both in this movie, like, don't remind me of
- 12:13Speaker 2: the one with the rattlesnake, which was so goddamn funny.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Just the fact that they got bam in that room
- 12:19Speaker 2: with a snake and then they closed the door will
- 12:22Speaker 2: will never not be funny to me.
- 12:24Speaker 4: But absolutely, yeah, like no, like, why would you show
- 12:27Speaker 4: that in?
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:28Speaker 5: No, I'm okay, so for sure. Then I did see four.
- 12:32Speaker 5: For whatever reason, I'd forgotten the four existed. I thought
- 12:35Speaker 5: this was for I was even getting in an argument
- 12:37Speaker 5: at work today that this was number four all right,
- 12:40Speaker 5: so okay, fucking a number five.
- 12:44Speaker 3: So I guess they.
- 12:45Speaker 4: All kind of together.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Yeah, but yeah, yeah, because when you're like, oh, yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 5: four point five, I was like, no, no, this is
- 12:52Speaker 5: point five. So yeah, this is not not a full movie.
- 12:57Speaker 5: And then I made the mistake. At a personal note,
- 13:01Speaker 5: I had told my wife that we were going to
- 13:04Speaker 5: see this at one, and then she had a handyman
- 13:08Speaker 5: come out over the weekend to do some repairs and
- 13:11Speaker 5: put together this letter that I had bought a few
- 13:14Speaker 5: years ago and had still never put together. So she
- 13:17Speaker 5: was going to do this nice surprise. I was going
- 13:19Speaker 5: to take the cat to the vet. She was supposed
- 13:22Speaker 5: to have the handyman over here have everything together by
- 13:24Speaker 5: the time I got back, and then we could go
- 13:26Speaker 5: to the one o'clock and then I come back, the
- 13:31Speaker 5: handyman still isn't here. They don't show up until like
- 13:34Speaker 5: one o'clock itself. So I ended up buying tickets for
- 13:37Speaker 5: this because the app for my movie theater does not
- 13:40Speaker 5: do refunds very well, if ever at all. So I
- 13:44Speaker 5: ended up paying twice for this movie. So I rather
- 13:48Speaker 5: than calling the theater and talking with a human being,
- 13:51Speaker 5: I just said, fuck it, I'll buy tickets again. So
- 13:53Speaker 5: I paid double for this movie. So I'm like quadriple
- 13:57Speaker 5: ripped off by this one. And I mean again, I
- 14:00Speaker 5: had a great time watching this, but I was just like, Okay, yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 5: I've seen this stuff before. Guys like just give me
- 14:05Speaker 5: new stunts or show me more stuff that from the
- 14:08Speaker 5: TV show that I couldn't see before. Was the Brad
- 14:10Speaker 5: Pitt's stuff. Had that aired before?
- 14:12Speaker 3: It must have?
- 14:13Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, it was on the It was on the
- 14:14Speaker 4: TV show.
- 14:15Speaker 2: But I want to say it was like in the
- 14:17Speaker 2: second It was either in the second or third season,
- 14:19Speaker 2: because it was once the show kind of became that
- 14:22Speaker 2: like phenomenon where they were you know, getting trying to
- 14:24Speaker 2: get people to ban MTV to ban.
- 14:26Speaker 4: It and stuff like that.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Like that that all was after they became you know,
- 14:30Speaker 2: kind of famous, cause again, like they got away with
- 14:32Speaker 2: stuff in the first season of the show that they
- 14:34Speaker 2: could not have gotten away with in the second season
- 14:36Speaker 2: because they were recognizable by the time.
- 14:38Speaker 4: The second and third season you know, rolled around it.
- 14:41Speaker 2: In a lot of ways, The early show had a
- 14:43Speaker 2: lot of like man on the Street stuff that the
- 14:47Speaker 2: movies never could really get into because these guys are
- 14:51Speaker 2: so famous now, especially Johnny Knoxville, which is why if
- 14:55Speaker 2: they ever wanted to have Johnny Knoxville in anything other
- 14:58Speaker 2: than like a fiction role in a fictional film, he
- 15:01Speaker 2: has to be in that ridiculous bad grandpa makeup just
- 15:04Speaker 2: so they can have him doing the things he used
- 15:06Speaker 2: to do. Because even in Jackass the movie, he.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Doesn't really need the makeup much anymore.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Well, that's he's still a good looking guy. I feel
- 15:14Speaker 2: like Johnny knox was one of those guys. I'm like,
- 15:16Speaker 2: he's a good looking guy with his he looks good
- 15:18Speaker 2: with the gray hair he does.
- 15:19Speaker 5: No, he's a very handsome man, and I think he's
- 15:22Speaker 5: actually gotten more handsome as he's gotten older. I agree, Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 5: I think Pontis is really looking good.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I mean he's always been.
- 15:30Speaker 4: To talk about looking good.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Baby.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he's always been a good looking man, but I
- 15:34Speaker 5: think he really looks good in here. Steve O looks
- 15:37Speaker 5: pretty damn decent for his age. I just feel bad
- 15:41Speaker 5: about his voice. Man, Like his voice has always been rough,
- 15:44Speaker 5: but it's like it's gotten worse with age.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I have a really close friend that can do a
- 15:48Speaker 2: very spot on Steve O impression. Add it's may stay
- 15:52Speaker 2: though it's that mine's not that good. His is way better.
- 15:56Speaker 2: But that like, I don't know what you would call that,
- 15:58Speaker 2: Like his voice has always it's always sounded like that,
- 16:02Speaker 2: but now.
- 16:03Speaker 5: It's it's wonderful for him to talk, you know, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I will tell you of the group of people I am,
- 16:11Speaker 2: it's sad because Ryan Doune passing away limited the group
- 16:15Speaker 2: one person, and then everything with Bam limited it again.
- 16:19Speaker 2: So nothing past the third movie has ever really felt
- 16:23Speaker 2: like Jackass. It's you know, it's like The Mummy three
- 16:26Speaker 2: where they recast Rachel Weiss as Maria Bellahok, It's I
- 16:29Speaker 2: wouldn't say it's like Iron Man two because Terrence Howard
- 16:33Speaker 2: was never going to get out of Iron Man acting
- 16:35Speaker 2: like that, he was never going to get into the
- 16:37Speaker 2: MCU acting like that, apparently so and no one was
- 16:40Speaker 2: I think sad to see him go, other than maybe him.
- 16:42Speaker 2: But this is one of those things where I guess,
- 16:45Speaker 2: I guess we're the Beg still the Beg's when one
- 16:48Speaker 2: of the brothers passed away. Yes, they were, but again,
- 16:51Speaker 2: like how many people have to be left for this
- 16:53Speaker 2: to still be the same thing?
- 16:55Speaker 4: The last thing you want?
- 16:56Speaker 2: And this is kind of the problem with the last
- 16:58Speaker 2: movie that this movie again, like you said with the
- 17:00Speaker 2: with the female member of Jackass, it's not this is
- 17:03Speaker 2: the this is the ship of theseus question? Right, Like
- 17:06Speaker 2: if you replace all the pieces, is it's still Jackass? No,
- 17:09Speaker 2: it's in fact not, because, like you've just alluded to,
- 17:12Speaker 2: each of the members of the group has a distinct
- 17:14Speaker 2: personality and they each brought something different to the show.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Especially I'm a fan of Wild Boys because Chris Pontius
- 17:21Speaker 2: has always been one of my favorites, not just because
- 17:24Speaker 2: of Party Boy, which I you know, is one of
- 17:27Speaker 2: like the most early two thousands goddamn things you can
- 17:30Speaker 2: ever think.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Love party Boy.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Well, it's still one of the funniest fucking things ever,
- 17:36Speaker 2: just ripping your pants off and just harassing people in
- 17:39Speaker 2: a thong like okay, and Chris Ponius does yeah, he
- 17:43Speaker 2: does it with such just like Gusto. And one of
- 17:46Speaker 2: my favorite scenes in this entire movie is Knoxville going,
- 17:49Speaker 2: so you know how in the Olympics they used to
- 17:51Speaker 2: perform naked, Well, we want you to do this high
- 17:53Speaker 2: jump naked, and Panie's just goes okay, and Knoxville's face
- 17:57Speaker 2: is just like, yeah, no shit, Like I asked pon
- 18:00Speaker 2: Is to do something naked, of course he will, like
- 18:02Speaker 2: what it's the look Knoxville makes on it with his faces.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Why did I even have to ask? Of course you're going.
- 18:08Speaker 2: But absolutely, it's just not Jackass anymore. And I think
- 18:12Speaker 2: that when they added all the new people in in
- 18:14Speaker 2: the last movie, it's still worked against all like all odds,
- 18:19Speaker 2: it's still worked like the last movie, I think, still
- 18:22Speaker 2: relatively decent, but yeah, this movie, I think it really
- 18:25Speaker 2: like it goes to show that they really have to
- 18:28Speaker 2: pad this movie out with the good times of Jackass,
- 18:31Speaker 2: not just because the people that are in some of
- 18:33Speaker 2: those clips are no longer with us or no longer
- 18:35Speaker 2: work with them. But also because it's just that's when
- 18:38Speaker 2: Jackass was Jackass. If there was one more movie, it
- 18:41Speaker 2: would be sad. This is verging on sad, it kind
- 18:44Speaker 2: of is. And that's sad for me because I don't
- 18:47Speaker 2: think anyone in this movie would want either one of
- 18:49Speaker 2: us fans of the franchise to say that.
- 18:52Speaker 3: No, no, I don't think so.
- 18:53Speaker 5: And yeah, like they have to give up at some
- 18:56Speaker 5: point because these guys are starting to be senior citizens.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I mean, honestly, the them, starting with the once they
- 19:02Speaker 5: get into the movie proper, starting with the whole thing
- 19:04Speaker 5: about it's very important for you men to get checked
- 19:08Speaker 5: and all this stuff. It's like, yeah, these guys are
- 19:10Speaker 5: of that age. They should be getting their colonoscopy every
- 19:13Speaker 5: ten years.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Johnny Knoxville is They say it in the movie
- 19:16Speaker 2: forty nine years old. And man, I you know, for
- 19:20Speaker 2: as much as I may not be a fan of
- 19:22Speaker 2: some of this movie, this movie contains the most horrifying
- 19:25Speaker 2: thing Johnny Knoxville has ever done. When he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, no,
- 19:29Speaker 2: that was not a good enough shot with that bull.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Let's steal a take two. You just know that something
- 19:36Speaker 2: bad is going to happen, And man, I thought him
- 19:39Speaker 2: getting his shit rocked by the bull. And was it
- 19:42Speaker 2: three or four where he's doing the thing where he's
- 19:44Speaker 2: roller skating, you know, right, roller skating in a buffalo
- 19:48Speaker 2: herd and he gets each shit from the buffalo.
- 19:50Speaker 4: This is way worse.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Like he's his head hits the ground so hard that
- 19:54Speaker 2: I was like, he's got to be I know he's
- 19:55Speaker 2: not dead because I've seen him on talk shows stuff recently,
- 19:58Speaker 2: but how the fuck does guy not die?
- 20:00Speaker 4: Okay, because it's Johnny Fucky Knoxvill That's why.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Oh I thought with that particular thing that you're talking
- 20:06Speaker 5: about with the bull scene, I honestly thought that he
- 20:10Speaker 5: was pranking the rest of the team because all of
- 20:14Speaker 5: them are are in this like separate cage right right,
- 20:18Speaker 5: and he's just like, oh yeah, we gotta go again.
- 20:20Speaker 5: We got to go again, and he's like building it
- 20:22Speaker 5: up and all this kind of stuff. I thought for
- 20:24Speaker 5: sure that that they were going to have a wall
- 20:27Speaker 5: of that cage drop and then like three or four
- 20:30Speaker 5: bulls get released all at the same time. That's honestly
- 20:34Speaker 5: what I thought was going to happen. So when he
- 20:35Speaker 5: got rocked by that bull the second time. I was like, oh, well,
- 20:37Speaker 5: where's the joke, Like this is just him getting hit,
- 20:41Speaker 5: Like you should definitely be pranking the rest of these
- 20:43Speaker 5: guys who are all standing around, just like, oh Johnny
- 20:46Speaker 5: oh man, all you know, like do something, you know,
- 20:48Speaker 5: give it a subpersive and fun.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, like they used to.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Yeah it's I know it. And that's the thing like that.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The only thing that redeems that scene is how hard
- 20:59Speaker 2: of a hit he takes. Oh yeah, because to your point,
- 21:01Speaker 2: like they've like I just said, they've literally already done
- 21:05Speaker 2: this with a Bison and Johnny Knoxville.
- 21:08Speaker 5: I just feel like they did that whole thing with
- 21:10Speaker 5: the teacher totters right yeah yeah, And they even show
- 21:13Speaker 5: like a little clip of that at one point. I
- 21:15Speaker 5: was like, Oh, that was a really good bit, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 5: because the more you you do layers on top of it.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Because there's just him doing I'm going to do a
- 21:24Speaker 5: magic trick and he's standing in front of that curtain.
- 21:27Speaker 5: I thought that curtain was going to fall, like something
- 21:29Speaker 5: was going to play into the magic, because the magic
- 21:32Speaker 5: doesn't play into the bowl. Sorry that I'm over examining this,
- 21:35Speaker 5: but the magic doesn't play.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Aga they went into all this when they were thinking
- 21:39Speaker 4: of these ideas.
- 21:40Speaker 5: You know, not real Oh yeah, absolutely, because I'm just like, well, yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 5: i mean, look at how elaborate they you were talking
- 21:47Speaker 5: about the escape room stuff, super elaborate, you know, or
- 21:51Speaker 5: the whole thing that they're doing with the silence of
- 21:54Speaker 5: the lambs. Thing like, not only is it you know,
- 21:57Speaker 5: we're setting out this thing with the snake and all
- 21:59Speaker 5: this stuff, but then we're doing the lights out, then
- 22:02Speaker 5: we do the twist with the silence of the lambs,
- 22:05Speaker 5: the vision goggles, and then you got fucking podcast in
- 22:10Speaker 5: the background with the junk time behind his legs, wearing
- 22:13Speaker 5: the robe and doing the Jamie Gumm dance. And I'm
- 22:17Speaker 5: just like, that's where the brilliance comes in. So just
- 22:20Speaker 5: being hit by a bull doesn't cut it when it
- 22:23Speaker 5: comes to this stuff.
- 22:24Speaker 2: No, And it's that's the thing about Jackass that was
- 22:28Speaker 2: always more interesting for me is the subversiveness of what
- 22:32Speaker 2: they were doing and not just it's kind of like
- 22:35Speaker 2: the Sopranos of it all. Like the Sopranos is never
- 22:38Speaker 2: about people getting killed. It was always about everything else,
- 22:41Speaker 2: And for me, Jackass was the same thing. Like it's
- 22:44Speaker 2: never really been about the skits or the death defying
- 22:48Speaker 2: acts as much as just how subversive that is in
- 22:51Speaker 2: what they're doing, and like filming themselves doing it, and
- 22:54Speaker 2: the levels to which they're putting their bodies on the
- 22:56Speaker 2: line to be entertaining. It's like, I mean, it's you know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: it's modern day stunts, but done in a like really
- 23:04Speaker 2: small way. Like Steve you know, Steve O is sticking
- 23:07Speaker 2: a fucking ping pong ball of his asshole and like
- 23:10Speaker 2: shooting it out of his asshole, Like I I what, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Was pretty lame as well.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Don't get it, like what's the joke?
- 23:17Speaker 5: Right, But some of the simplest things can be the funniest.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Right, you know, and they often are.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Yeah, Like one of my favorite things was I think
- 23:25Speaker 5: it was in the First movie where they just cut
- 23:28Speaker 5: somebody and they think they show the clip in the
- 23:30Speaker 5: opening credits. I think it might be Steve O. Like
- 23:33Speaker 5: he's in another room. He comes running and he jumps
- 23:35Speaker 5: on a trampoline and just bashes himself into a ceiling fan.
- 23:39Speaker 5: That was fucking funny. And it's like that's just a
- 23:42Speaker 5: real quick, like one off type of thing, and they
- 23:44Speaker 5: will do those like little jokes, and sometimes those little jokes,
- 23:49Speaker 5: as as the connective material, are like so fricking funny.
- 23:54Speaker 5: And I just love those things where it's like I'm
- 23:56Speaker 5: Johnny Knoxville and this is whatever, and just do it,
- 24:00Speaker 5: you know, like it's very quick, you know, but it's not.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Steve O's gonna struggle trying to get this ping pong
- 24:05Speaker 5: ball out of his ass, and like, yeah, we understand
- 24:07Speaker 5: that I got it, Steve O. You don't have to
- 24:10Speaker 5: explain the joke to me that you swallowed this and
- 24:13Speaker 5: now yeah, and I did like the one guy who's
- 24:15Speaker 5: just like, well, the real trick would have been for
- 24:17Speaker 5: you to shove it up your ass and I'm puking out.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, Dave, Yeah, Dave England is hey, Dave
- 24:24Speaker 2: England always has some very funny one liners.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Uh.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It just yeah, I think to your point, it's just
- 24:29Speaker 2: it's lost a little bit of the magic. It's like,
- 24:31Speaker 2: I wouldn't say it's like they've run out of ideas,
- 24:33Speaker 2: because there are some funny bits in this movie, like
- 24:36Speaker 2: when they play Twister while I'm laxing it.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Yes, I'm surprised it's taking him this long to do that.
- 24:42Speaker 2: It's reminiscent of one of the other skits that I
- 24:45Speaker 2: think is quite possibly It's one of the few things
- 24:48Speaker 2: that every time I've.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Watched it it makes me gag.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Is the sweatsuit cocktail where he gets the sweat out
- 24:55Speaker 2: of Preston Lacy's thing and Steve o drinks it and
- 24:58Speaker 2: he just starts like vomiting like crazy. Like that for me,
- 25:02Speaker 2: is one of the grossest things they've done. This is
- 25:03Speaker 2: a close second where they're just like Steve O' is
- 25:06Speaker 2: just shitting everywhere. But again, it's one of those things
- 25:09Speaker 2: where it's almost like they didn't have enough of it.
- 25:11Speaker 2: They didn't let the they didn't let the gag go
- 25:12Speaker 2: on long enough, because sometimes again that's like the kind
- 25:15Speaker 2: of tim and Eric Eric Andre of it all is
- 25:18Speaker 2: the like anti humor of like letting it go on
- 25:21Speaker 2: so long that it finally comes back around in the
- 25:23Speaker 2: absurdity of how long it's gone on.
- 25:25Speaker 4: There's none of that here either.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Like the they show they show the the the one
- 25:30Speaker 2: with the little people, where it's like we have God,
- 25:33Speaker 2: we Man, and the little woman, and then we have
- 25:36Speaker 2: the little guy, and then we have the other members
- 25:38Speaker 2: of the gang, and then we have the little cops
- 25:41Speaker 2: and then we have the little paramedics. It's like, that's
- 25:43Speaker 2: that's what I miss from these guys, is like just
- 25:46Speaker 2: being able to push and push and push and push
- 25:49Speaker 2: and push. Since when did jackass stop pushing? Like that's right,
- 25:52Speaker 2: you can see more subversive things on the internet. Now,
- 25:55Speaker 2: maybe that's part of the problem.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that probably really helped kill their whole business,
- 26:02Speaker 5: you know, because it is a business. They've had to
- 26:04Speaker 5: think of these things and come up with all of
- 26:06Speaker 5: the ins and outs of this stuff. And yeah, I
- 26:09Speaker 5: mean the planning is what I really enjoyed, and just
- 26:12Speaker 5: how elaborate some of these stupid things are, or like, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 5: I mean they show again, like the jet ski that
- 26:19Speaker 5: takes off and goes into the hedges.
- 26:21Speaker 3: That was a great bet.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah that's all. That's another one of it. It's again,
- 26:24Speaker 2: the simplest ones are often the most funny. Like one
- 26:27Speaker 2: of the ones that I genuinely I love because I
- 26:30Speaker 2: love Ryan Dunn's reaction is when it gets blown up
- 26:33Speaker 2: in that toilet and he goes, Man, that thing just goes.
- 26:36Speaker 2: That line has stuck with me for years, as he
- 26:40Speaker 2: just half covered in blue pages, that thing goes man like.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Fuck.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I can't imagine sitting on a toilet and having explode
- 26:47Speaker 2: up my asshole like and.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Again it's that's such a simple.
- 26:51Speaker 2: You don't have to draw these gags out where you
- 26:53Speaker 2: have people suspended as marionettes on strings and you're shooting
- 26:57Speaker 2: at them with like tasers like that gas. It's barely
- 27:01Speaker 2: even funny.
- 27:03Speaker 4: And you know what, I.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Feel bad because like this is another one of these
- 27:06Speaker 2: things where it's like, I'm sure that this was like
- 27:09Speaker 2: a dream come true and has nothing to do with him,
- 27:11Speaker 2: because I actually like Adam Ray as a comedian of
- 27:13Speaker 2: fair amount. I find him very funny. I find his
- 27:17Speaker 2: crowd work funny. I find the characters that he does funny.
- 27:20Speaker 2: They don't give him.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Anything to do, which is such a fucking shame.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Like you have a genuinely, really funny guy who's been
- 27:26Speaker 2: able to in a lot of ways escape the shitty
- 27:28Speaker 2: orbit of Tony Hinchcliff and the bozo pals that he
- 27:31Speaker 2: kind of became famous around, but they don't give him
- 27:34Speaker 2: anything to do, like compared to like Eric Andre even
- 27:37Speaker 2: in the last movie, who's getting like his shit rocked
- 27:40Speaker 2: constantly anytime he's on screen. Here they just have Adam
- 27:44Speaker 2: Ray be the voice of the Proctologist robot and then
- 27:47Speaker 2: the narrator during the Marionette sequence, which is in the
- 27:52Speaker 2: lower third of the Jackass bits they've ever done.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, yeah, that was pretty disappointing. I really was
- 27:59Speaker 5: hoping and for more with that robot, Like I liked
- 28:02Speaker 5: his little one liners and stuff that he would do.
- 28:04Speaker 5: But it was like, okay, yeah, give me something else
- 28:07Speaker 5: with this thing, like put it out in the world,
- 28:09Speaker 5: you know, like this was so insular when it came
- 28:12Speaker 5: to just them having jokes amongst themselves. I don't think
- 28:15Speaker 5: there were very many clips where they actually go out into,
- 28:19Speaker 5: you know, amongst the real popular I.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Don't think they can anymore, not unless you're like in
- 28:25Speaker 2: pounds of makeup.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think you're right.
- 28:28Speaker 5: It was just like, hey, guys, like all of these
- 28:30Speaker 5: clips where it was you know, like like you said, the.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Bar or not a camera phone and fucking sight.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Oh I know, I know.
- 28:39Speaker 5: It's just wild, right.
- 28:40Speaker 2: So my girlfriend said to me, She's like, I think
- 28:42Speaker 2: my favorite thing about this clip is the fact that
- 28:44Speaker 2: there's no social media about any of this, Like this
- 28:47Speaker 2: existed in a time and place before people were pulling
- 28:49Speaker 2: their phones out to take pictures like That's what made
- 28:52Speaker 2: Jackass work is that the only way you'd ever be
- 28:55Speaker 2: able to see this is by them doing it and
- 28:57Speaker 2: posting it on MTV as an episode.
- 29:00Speaker 1: There.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Now, if they're doing any of this, you're gonna have
- 29:02Speaker 2: like eight million different angles, which again is to bemoan
- 29:06Speaker 2: a ultimately positive thing, which is everyone having information and
- 29:11Speaker 2: telephones in their hands to be able to do that,
- 29:13Speaker 2: which has allowed more people to do things that are
- 29:15Speaker 2: jackass adjacent to But it has made these guys kind
- 29:19Speaker 2: of like the Grandpa's all standing around doing low rent
- 29:23Speaker 2: stunts trying to relive the glory days, which again like
- 29:26Speaker 2: it's charming, But this is that movie. This has now
- 29:29Speaker 2: gotten to that point because and I wanted to ask
- 29:32Speaker 2: your thoughts on this. It feels like they were on
- 29:34Speaker 2: set for.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Like a week. Yeah, like a fucking reek man.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Compared to the other movies, which are like feel like
- 29:42Speaker 2: real endeavored even you know, the third movie has a
- 29:45Speaker 2: bunch of football players in it. It has like, you know,
- 29:48Speaker 2: it has real people from the real world. It has
- 29:50Speaker 2: a I think the third one has a bad grandpa sketch.
- 29:53Speaker 2: The fourth one I think might as well. But like
- 29:56Speaker 2: you said, there's just it seems so like we're just
- 29:58Speaker 2: on the back lot here shooting the footage and that's that.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Like okay, like what yeah, what what? Okay, You're shooting
- 30:05Speaker 2: the footage in the dick House parking lot in Pomona somewhere,
- 30:09Speaker 2: like okay, cool.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Yeah, And like I said, they're already sitting down talking
- 30:14Speaker 5: about like, oh yeah, we did this thing and remember
- 30:17Speaker 5: this and da da da, And I'm like, just just make.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Who that is.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Yeah, just make these interviews, you know, Yeah.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Because I don't think anyone would watch a Jackass documentary
- 30:26Speaker 2: not expecting to see new footage because we have never
- 30:30Speaker 2: seen the footage of Johnny Knoxville eating shit down the
- 30:32Speaker 2: stairs in that box, which, by the way, fucking.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Oh god, what in God's name?
- 30:40Speaker 2: But that's my point, right, Like, again, you have a
- 30:42Speaker 2: guy going down the stairs in a box that does
- 30:45Speaker 2: not sound like it would be something entertaining, but yet
- 30:47Speaker 2: it is one of the most entertaining things in the
- 30:49Speaker 2: movie because of who it is and all that and
- 30:52Speaker 2: everything else. But yeah, man, like I I don't understand
- 30:56Speaker 2: why they wouldn't just do that, Like what what is
- 30:59Speaker 2: the what is the reason to not I guess when,
- 31:02Speaker 2: like you said, you have everyone together already, unless they
- 31:04Speaker 2: did do that and we're gonna get that at some
- 31:07Speaker 2: point in the future anyways, But why not what I
- 31:10Speaker 2: don't know, why why do any of this without that
- 31:13Speaker 2: or mention that you're doing that or have that be
- 31:15Speaker 2: a like a you know, a thing that you're talking about,
- 31:18Speaker 2: like we're gonna do this comprehensive jackass documentary, cause there's
- 31:22Speaker 2: still footage that we haven't seen even now we're seeing
- 31:25Speaker 2: that at this movie, Like there's if there's point fives
- 31:28Speaker 2: of all these movies, there's point two fives of all
- 31:30Speaker 2: these fucking movies as well, like there's for the people
- 31:33Speaker 2: that want to see it, aka people like me and
- 31:35Speaker 2: you who care about the creative process that they are
- 31:38Speaker 2: engaged in, which I can't think of any other creators
- 31:40Speaker 2: that have been able to do this as their creative process.
- 31:43Speaker 2: There have been like segmented things that are this, but
- 31:46Speaker 2: in terms of like a troop of people whose sole
- 31:49Speaker 2: gimmick is being death defying dipshit circus clown stunt men,
- 31:54Speaker 2: these are them in terms of the highest visibility and
- 31:57Speaker 2: yet like they did, like you said, didn't think that
- 32:01Speaker 2: it's pertinent to discuss that more. We just se Johnny
- 32:04Speaker 2: Knoxviill crying a bunch just kind of what it boils
- 32:06Speaker 2: down to.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just frustrating to I mean, the
- 32:12Speaker 5: closest that you get to the creative process, and this
- 32:15Speaker 5: one is that clip of Bam when he's like, this
- 32:19Speaker 5: is the shit I faxed over to Knoxville and it
- 32:22Speaker 5: was just the drawing the stick. Heres there's this big
- 32:25Speaker 5: feca and there's those little guys. It's like, Okay, do
- 32:29Speaker 5: they all come like that? Like what is that? Do
- 32:32Speaker 5: they have like a writer's room meeting for this?
- 32:35Speaker 1: You know?
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean they probably had a writer's room and there
- 32:38Speaker 2: was a box that they opened and there was just
- 32:39Speaker 2: a shitload of joints in it, and they were just
- 32:41Speaker 2: like listen, roughly get stoned and just come up with
- 32:44Speaker 2: the stupidest, funniest things possible. I like that we get
- 32:47Speaker 2: to see the clip of Steve O refusing to do
- 32:49Speaker 2: the car stunt from the first movie. Like, I like
- 32:52Speaker 2: those things because at this point, like there is a
- 32:55Speaker 2: mythology to jackass, even if they don't want to acknowledge it,
- 32:59Speaker 2: which they kind of do. Acknowledge it, like there's a
- 33:01Speaker 2: mythos to this series, like there's there are character roles,
- 33:05Speaker 2: there are things that have happened, there are in jokes,
- 33:08Speaker 2: like you've mentioned that they re referenced several times directly
- 33:11Speaker 2: and indirectly. Like I don't, I just I don't understand.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It just seems like such a missed opportunity, which for
- 33:17Speaker 2: Jackass is rarely ever the case. I would say, like
- 33:21Speaker 2: not pulling your like pulling your punches is not something
- 33:24Speaker 2: I would think Jackass would.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Be, like the last thing I would think Jackass would
- 33:28Speaker 4: be doing.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Franklin.
- 33:28Speaker 5: No, absolutely, Yeah, Yeah, Like I said, I had a
- 33:33Speaker 5: good time, Like it left me wanting for sure, And yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 5: I really I can't recommend it.
- 33:39Speaker 3: I can't say.
- 33:40Speaker 5: Go pay your six dollars or thirteen dollars or however
- 33:45Speaker 5: and however much I ended up paying. We don't do
- 33:49Speaker 5: what I did.
- 33:50Speaker 3: First off.
- 33:51Speaker 5: Yeah, just wait for it to be streaming, because it's
- 33:54Speaker 5: really it's not even that spectacular of a thing, Like
- 33:57Speaker 5: they don't have the big you know, the big moments
- 34:00Speaker 5: in the movie are things that were in other movies.
- 34:03Speaker 3: You know.
- 34:03Speaker 5: I was very glad that I was able to see
- 34:06Speaker 5: things like, you know, I guess one through four, but
- 34:09Speaker 5: just to you know, only they were remembering one through three,
- 34:12Speaker 5: but to see like the big shopping cart, to see
- 34:15Speaker 5: them being chased through the neighborhood by bulls, just to
- 34:19Speaker 5: see the uh, the big stunt at the I think
- 34:24Speaker 5: it was at the end of one where they're going
- 34:25Speaker 5: down that ramp and there's Rip Taylor out in the
- 34:29Speaker 5: boat throwing the confetti and stuff.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Yes, the end of love that I love that.
- 34:34Speaker 3: That was so good.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Instead this one it ends with the with the door
- 34:38Speaker 5: stop being flung a couple times, Like what the hell
- 34:41Speaker 5: was that?
- 34:41Speaker 3: Thing?
- 34:42Speaker 2: That was one of the gags from the first season
- 34:46Speaker 2: of the show.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Okay, all right, was the fans?
- 34:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that was like one of Dave England's things. Was
- 34:52Speaker 2: just like, yeah, I found it funny. But again, like
- 34:57Speaker 2: you said, it's for those of us who have seen everything,
- 35:00Speaker 2: which I think if the things that you like about
- 35:03Speaker 2: Jackass is that frenetic pace of like just jumping to things,
- 35:07Speaker 2: you would really benefit from watching the show. It's a
- 35:10Speaker 2: small commitment of time. It's three seasons. Each episode is
- 35:14Speaker 2: twelve minutes. It's very little time, and I think it
- 35:18Speaker 2: is the best that this series ever was because it
- 35:21Speaker 2: was when it was the most raw and transgressive and aggressive.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Really again, like this show was being talked about at
- 35:29Speaker 2: the highest levels of government and FCC. They were like
- 35:32Speaker 2: trying to take this show down just because it was
- 35:34Speaker 2: a bunch of bozos hurting themselves. It's like children will
- 35:37Speaker 2: imitate this. Yeah, well children are stupid, of course, Yeah,
- 35:41Speaker 2: but like so well adults too. You think it's just that, No,
- 35:43Speaker 2: it is the children who are hurt themselves. No, adults
- 35:46Speaker 2: will do the same thing. I remember my mom and
- 35:48Speaker 2: dad telling me all about how terrible Jackass was when
- 35:51Speaker 2: I was growing up, because they had read something about
- 35:53Speaker 2: one of the skits in the show, which is Johnny
- 35:55Speaker 2: Knoxville getting into a burn suit and then having stakes
- 35:58Speaker 2: affixed to the city and then him jumping onto a
- 36:01Speaker 2: grill and then they eat the steaks over the credits.
- 36:04Speaker 2: That's fucking hilarious.
- 36:06Speaker 3: That is it very funny.
- 36:07Speaker 4: It's very funny.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And I remember my parents telling it to me and
- 36:10Speaker 2: they're like, would you watch a show like that? I
- 36:12Speaker 2: remember saying yes, because it sounds fucking have.
- 36:15Speaker 4: You ever seen that before? No, and still haven't.
- 36:18Speaker 2: In a lot of ways, like I don't know where
- 36:20Speaker 2: you would go to see that other than Jackass. And
- 36:22Speaker 2: that for me is, if you are replicating the things
- 36:26Speaker 2: you've already done previously, you are missing the point of
- 36:29Speaker 2: your own show, which is you're doing something that's so
- 36:32Speaker 2: subversive and weird that it stands alone singularly as its
- 36:37Speaker 2: own thing. Like there have been people that have tried
- 36:40Speaker 2: to do things like Jackass, including people that were involved
- 36:43Speaker 2: in Jackass, but there is nothing like Jackass. And the
- 36:46Speaker 2: problem for me with this movie is, and again I
- 36:49Speaker 2: can't suggest people other than like Jackass fans period go
- 36:54Speaker 2: see it is you have created a film that shows
- 36:57Speaker 2: things from your other films, so you have created your
- 36:59Speaker 2: own You've pointed the finger at your own obsolescence essentially
- 37:03Speaker 2: and said, why would you watch this new thing when
- 37:05Speaker 2: you could just go watch the old things that are
- 37:07Speaker 2: clearly better?
- 37:07Speaker 4: How do we know that? But we'll just show you
- 37:09Speaker 4: the old things.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Even like that's clip shows, man, clip shows are such
- 37:13Speaker 2: a jumping of the shark, just like yeah right.
- 37:16Speaker 5: I mean they used to do that all the time
- 37:18Speaker 5: when on TV when I was growing up, especially Family Ties,
- 37:23Speaker 5: because Michael J. Fox was out doing his movies and
- 37:26Speaker 5: all these other things and it's just like, okay, you know, oh,
- 37:30Speaker 5: remember remember when Michael did this, and then they would
- 37:33Speaker 5: have like you know, the Tinayethers segment and all that
- 37:36Speaker 5: kind of stuff, Mallory here and there, and it's just like, okay, yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 5: something's going on.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Why do we keep doing this? Right?
- 37:42Speaker 5: And in this one it's like again, it's like, man,
- 37:45Speaker 5: have they had like a real thing on camera where
- 37:48Speaker 5: they talk about what was going on with Bam where
- 37:51Speaker 5: they talk about what happened with.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Ryan is a spam but with Ryan, Yes, I believe
- 37:56Speaker 2: in one of the movies. I think in four they
- 37:59Speaker 2: have something. I think there's like a dedication at the
- 38:01Speaker 2: end of the movie to Ryan.
- 38:02Speaker 5: I gotta go back and watch that.
- 38:04Speaker 2: I for a pandemic, So I don't remember it either.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I just remember that there's something in there. Because three
- 38:09Speaker 2: was the last one that had all of them this. Look,
- 38:12Speaker 2: let's talk about this broadly, right, When was the last
- 38:15Speaker 2: time the fourth movie in a series that went past
- 38:18Speaker 2: the trilogy was any good? Like contemporary examples are very bad.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Indiana joneses to mind, Yeah, this is like Indiana Jones.
- 38:27Speaker 2: It's like, now we have a bunch of old guys
- 38:28Speaker 2: on screen who are clearly old trying to relive the
- 38:31Speaker 2: glory days. These guys capture better than Indiana Jones. But
- 38:34Speaker 2: the stakes here is so much lower, like so much
- 38:37Speaker 2: lower than Indiana Jones. But this movie also budget of
- 38:41Speaker 2: ten million dollars, box office of ten million dollars. Right, yeah,
- 38:45Speaker 2: I think Will's out here. I don't think this is
- 38:48Speaker 2: popular with the gen Z crowd.
- 38:51Speaker 5: No, probably not, because it's pretty poletely incorrect.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I mean, you know.
- 38:56Speaker 2: How gen zs hate politically and correct stuff. It's like
- 38:59Speaker 2: they're fucking kryptonite. As someone who dated one who was
- 39:03Speaker 2: very much a gen Zer through and through, they're miserably
- 39:06Speaker 2: politically correct to a point that it makes you just
- 39:08Speaker 2: want to rip your fucking hair out sometimes.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Uh.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I have very little sympathy for people who can't enjoy
- 39:15Speaker 2: someone hitting a ball with their dick, because if that
- 39:18Speaker 2: offends you, look inward at yourself for fucking fuck's sake,
- 39:23Speaker 2: Like they're not doing anything here other than pure entertainment, genuinely, like,
- 39:27Speaker 2: this is not this is not trying to solve world hunger,
- 39:30Speaker 2: and they make no bones about it. They're not trying
- 39:32Speaker 2: to like do anything other than be entertainers. So yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 2: like I I wonder, like just the viability of Jackass
- 39:40Speaker 2: as a thing anybody cares about anymore. I don't know
- 39:43Speaker 2: who is lining up for a lot of things like that.
- 39:46Speaker 2: We saw that with Star Wars, where you know, we
- 39:49Speaker 2: talked about Mandalorian and Grogu. Apparently nobody went and saw it.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Everybody was going to see Obsession in backrooms. Which as
- 39:55Speaker 2: someone who sat and watched Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters
- 39:58Speaker 2: and backrooms, I can tell you which movie had were
- 40:00Speaker 2: people in. It was back rooms. And I mean again,
- 40:02Speaker 2: it made more money, just like Obsession. Like I think
- 40:05Speaker 2: we are moving into a time where the tastes have
- 40:08Speaker 2: changed and the people that are going to the movies
- 40:10Speaker 2: to make money at the movies and spend their money
- 40:12Speaker 2: at the movies are it needs to be focused on
- 40:15Speaker 2: things that aren't appealing to people my age, your age, and.
- 40:21Speaker 4: A little younger.
- 40:22Speaker 2: But that's about it, Like I just these kinds of
- 40:24Speaker 2: things just don't have the same staying power anymore. And
- 40:26Speaker 2: I don't think it's all just because the quality has dipped.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I think the interest in people's willingness to engage has
- 40:33Speaker 2: also dipped. Like you know, there are probably some people
- 40:35Speaker 2: that are like, oh, there's another Jackass movie coming out.
- 40:37Speaker 2: I remember when I saw it when I was in college,
- 40:39Speaker 2: and that's it. That's as far as the conversation goes.
- 40:42Speaker 2: And I get it. But you know, you outgrow things,
- 40:45Speaker 2: like there are people that outgrew friends from high school,
- 40:48Speaker 2: outgrew movies and songs and TV shows that they liked,
- 40:51Speaker 2: and I get the distinct feeling that Jackass was probably
- 40:54Speaker 2: in that for a lot of people, because it was
- 40:57Speaker 2: you know, the energy of Jackass has always been aggressively masculine.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I don't think anything's wrong with any of those guys.
- 41:04Speaker 2: There's never been any sort of like things leveled against
- 41:06Speaker 2: any of them other than just like being drunken bozos,
- 41:09Speaker 2: but like, it's been aggressively masculine, not toxically masculine, but
- 41:13Speaker 2: aggressively masculine. There's a lot of penises and all kinds
- 41:15Speaker 2: of like butt humor and farts and shit and stuff.
- 41:18Speaker 2: But even that has kind of a terminus with a
- 41:21Speaker 2: lot of people. I love a good dick and fart joke,
- 41:23Speaker 2: I think as much as you do, clearly, but there
- 41:25Speaker 2: are plenty of people that, like you've alluded to, not
- 41:27Speaker 2: just younger people younger than us, but also people our
- 41:30Speaker 2: own age that are just like that. It's not funny anymore.
- 41:32Speaker 2: It's like, oh, okay, get off your fucking high horse,
- 41:34Speaker 2: fine whatever.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yeah, So I just I think it's this is what
- 41:38Speaker 2: the fourth one would have been a good spot to
- 41:40Speaker 2: end this. The third one was an even better spot.
- 41:42Speaker 2: But I don't know of any movie that's gone past
- 41:45Speaker 2: the trilogy that's really worked even contemporary anymore.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Wow.
- 41:49Speaker 5: Uh yeah, I guess. I guess Rocky doesn't count. You know,
- 41:52Speaker 5: that's the only one I could think of.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's not contemporary anymore.
- 41:56Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Because I'm old. That's why I'm I'm these guys. I'm
- 42:00Speaker 5: a little older than these guys, I guess, so just
- 42:03Speaker 5: a tad, right, Yeah, not much so, because yeah they
- 42:06Speaker 5: were when did you say two thousand and one?
- 42:08Speaker 4: They were doing us in two thousand and one.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the hospital started doing the stuff for the skate
- 42:13Speaker 2: magazine in nineteen ninety nine, so yeah, pre two thousand, entertainment,
- 42:20Speaker 2: pre two thousand and one, pre nine to eleven.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yep.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I'm glad that we got a Jackass movie in twenty
- 42:25Speaker 2: twenty six. I'm glad that it is the last one.
- 42:28Speaker 2: But this is diminishing return. But you know, getting to
- 42:31Speaker 2: see a Jackass movie on the big screen one last time,
- 42:33Speaker 2: I think was probably the goal here. And if that
- 42:36Speaker 2: was singularly the goal, they achieved it as far as
- 42:38Speaker 2: I'm concerned. So because the last one came out, and
- 42:41Speaker 2: it came out during the pandemic, and you know, pandemic
- 42:44Speaker 2: was a weird time for seeing movies in theaters. Now
- 42:46Speaker 2: we're kind of past that, and you know, if people
- 42:48Speaker 2: don't go and see it, they can't say it was
- 42:50Speaker 2: the pandemic. They can they I think, can live happily
- 42:54Speaker 2: knowing like the people that wanted to see it saw it,
- 42:56Speaker 2: and the people that didn't want to see it didn't,
- 42:58Speaker 2: And that's you know, that's not as good as you
- 43:00Speaker 2: could ask for in this day and age. Was something
- 43:02Speaker 2: as seemingly possibly still divisive for some people as Jackass.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Yeah, me either.
- 43:08Speaker 2: So I guess with neither one of us suggesting you
- 43:11Speaker 2: go see it unless you're a diehard Jackass fan, you
- 43:13Speaker 2: know where we stand on this. If you want to
- 43:15Speaker 2: hear either of our shows that don't pertain to Jackass,
- 43:17Speaker 2: you can find all of those shows and more over
- 43:19Speaker 2: at weirdingwaymedia dot com, where my show, The Culture Cast,
- 43:23Speaker 2: Mike Show, The Projection Booth, Susan Lambert Adams Show, Eighties
- 43:27Speaker 2: TV Ladies, and a whole host of other things can
- 43:29Speaker 2: be found. Head on over there and give those shows
- 43:31Speaker 2: a listen. I guarantee you will find something that you
- 43:34Speaker 2: enjoy other than this, because I hope you enjoyed this
- 43:36Speaker 2: even if we were a little harsh on the movie.
- 43:38Speaker 2: But you know, I think it's coming from a place
- 43:40Speaker 2: of love, and we did still spend our money, So
- 43:43Speaker 2: you know.
- 43:43Speaker 5: There is that multiple times.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Yeah, apparently in your case twice.
- 43:48Speaker 2: So you know, there you go, and as always, we'll
- 43:52Speaker 2: catch you on the next episode.
- 44:00Speaker 1: From the Bosch The Bosch, the Boss
- 44:05Speaker 4: Boss bids cot Bins from the Books of the Booksts
- 44:15Speaker 4: from the Bosom
