- 0:18Speaker 3: Put your hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:23Speaker 1: All right, thanks for looking back to the episode of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the Mixed Company podcast. Of course, on one half of
- 0:28Speaker 1: the show, this is Jamison as always, en joined by
- 0:31Speaker 1: Luise Louise.
- 0:32Speaker 3: What's going on, man Adi?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Jamison? Uh, super happy to be back on the microphone.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We got a lot to talk about. It is out allergy.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Sweason is allergy season is in full swing over here.
- 0:43Speaker 2: So a lot of us aren't doing great nasally and
- 0:46Speaker 2: coffee Lee, but we're gonna make this work. It's gonna
- 0:49Speaker 2: be a great episode. Biggest news that has come out
- 0:53Speaker 2: in the last few days or within the past week,
- 0:56Speaker 2: so study Arabia. The Saudis, who have a lot of funding,
- 1:00Speaker 2: not just in boxing but in a lot of different sports,
- 1:03Speaker 2: UH seem to be pulling funding back, tidening their belts
- 1:07Speaker 2: whatever you want to say. You know they've been taking
- 1:09Speaker 2: a lot of losses on some events they're sponsoring, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: word on the street is, you know, Eddie Hern specifically
- 1:15Speaker 2: said himself that there's not going to be as much
- 1:17Speaker 2: Saudi money in boxing. They've lost a lot on these
- 1:20Speaker 2: events and it's not sustainable. Sure they're you know, they
- 1:24Speaker 2: have a shit load of money, but nothing less forever,
- 1:28Speaker 2: you know, nothing is unlimited. One thing that's affected is,
- 1:32Speaker 2: uh this event called Live Golf that I don't know
- 1:34Speaker 2: anything about other than it is Saudi backed. Either they
- 1:37Speaker 2: sold it off or it's just been shuttered. So uh yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 2: where where do we think boxing is going to be
- 1:43Speaker 2: if Saudi funding is just let's let's not say non existent,
- 1:48Speaker 2: just say less than before.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So what we talked about being the chat throughout the week,
- 1:55Speaker 1: boxing is always gonna be okay, somebody's always gonna pick
- 1:58Speaker 1: it up no matter how it goes, right, it has
- 2:00Speaker 1: been who picks it up, what the ramifications are, et cetera,
- 2:03Speaker 1: et cetera. With that being said, uh, it's not good
- 2:07Speaker 1: when the big money backers having issues in anything, right,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and whether it's a business, whether it's home whatever.
- 2:14Speaker 3: When the when the big paycheck.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You know, has issues, there's issues However, with that being said,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think everything's going under restructure right now. Everybody's looking
- 2:25Speaker 1: at things like, hey, there's a lot going on in
- 2:28Speaker 1: the world right now. We don't know what the future
- 2:30Speaker 1: is going to be like right now, this money's been
- 2:32Speaker 1: allocated years past. Everybody's looking for the future like, hey,
- 2:38Speaker 1: we're trying to allocate, We're trying to project. I think
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lot of uncomfortable projecting things right now with everything
- 2:44Speaker 1: going on. I think that's the biggest issue with what's
- 2:48Speaker 1: going on right now with sports and with boxing and
- 2:51Speaker 1: general comes in the Middle East because a lot of
- 2:53Speaker 1: stuff's going on over there. We are not put up
- 2:55Speaker 1: a podcast, so they're not going to get into that.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But with that being said, when you have a big
- 2:59Speaker 1: money part partner that is impacted by things going on
- 3:03Speaker 1: overseas and wars and whatnot, then yeah, everyone's gonna get
- 3:07Speaker 1: a lot differently because that's just natural. That's how business works.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So I think boxing is kind of getting caught into that,
- 3:13Speaker 1: kind of like Live Golf did. Live Golf was out
- 3:16Speaker 1: there paying everybody a crazy amount, like triple of what
- 3:21Speaker 1: they're making with PGA Golf.
- 3:23Speaker 3: It was just insane. But like everything else, one, it
- 3:27Speaker 3: didn't make sense.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Secondly, the biggest thing is we knew it wasn't gonna
- 3:32Speaker 1: be sustainable. And that's why I'm very curious about boxing,
- 3:35Speaker 1: because a couple months ago, mister Hitchens had a fight
- 3:40Speaker 1: where he bowed out.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Day of right, I'm not mistaken. It was day I'm
- 3:45Speaker 3: out for day in the morning, up right.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And then two months later we see him with Prolonga
- 3:52Speaker 1: promoting a new company. Now, you know, I start thinking
- 3:56Speaker 1: about some things, and like, wait a minute, this new company,
- 4:00Speaker 1: this guy the face of their situation, and he just
- 4:05Speaker 1: so happened to not fight.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Last minute on a different situation. I don't know.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I don't know, Like, make it makes sense, right, something,
- 4:14Speaker 1: something's a foul here, Something is not adding.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Up right, I mean a couple of things. Uh, I mean,
- 4:21Speaker 2: there's just so much to get into. God, I hard
- 4:23Speaker 2: even know where to start. But uh, well, I knew
- 4:26Speaker 2: I knew that this, this this Saudi bunny thing wasn't
- 4:29Speaker 2: gonna be long term. You know, let's don't shit a
- 4:30Speaker 2: shitter here, everybody. We know that they got into this
- 4:33Speaker 2: not because they cared about sports, but they wanted to
- 4:34Speaker 2: sanitize their image of history of human rights abuses. Let's
- 4:37Speaker 2: let's call call it what it is. Once that, you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: if that worked out for them and they can negotiate
- 4:44Speaker 2: something else, you know they were gonna leave boxing behind
- 4:46Speaker 2: if if not leave it behind entirely. You know, this
- 4:49Speaker 2: was a very very strong promotional push basically Saudi government propagetta.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Let's call let's just call it. I call it that,
- 4:58Speaker 2: but just on you know, that's not great. But at
- 5:01Speaker 2: the same time, if you ever watched the show Deadwood,
- 5:03Speaker 2: one of my favorite lines is that if money had
- 5:05Speaker 2: to be had to be cleaned before it change hands,
- 5:07Speaker 2: we'd still be living in a fucking cave. So, uh, it's all.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's all dirty somewhere, right, It's all Buddy is always
- 5:13Speaker 2: bloody somewhere or another. So let's let's be clear about that.
- 5:17Speaker 2: But yes, ZUFA Boxing, Dana Whites, Big Boxing Enterprise, which
- 5:22Speaker 2: also with Saudi back. You know, they're getting more into
- 5:24Speaker 2: citing different fighters. They signed Connor Ben for one fight
- 5:28Speaker 2: and extended it I think maybe for like three or
- 5:30Speaker 2: four fights. I can't remember, doesn't matter, But yes, Richards
- 5:33Speaker 2: and Hitchins and Edgar Berlanga are now you know two
- 5:38Speaker 2: big one one and a half big names that are
- 5:41Speaker 2: that are promoting ZUFA.
- 5:42Speaker 3: So like that, that's what we want today.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Okay, I was gonna say to like you, I was
- 5:51Speaker 2: gonna say two big names, but you know, let's be clear.
- 5:56Speaker 3: That's true. We just had one and we would have
- 5:59Speaker 3: been just fine.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I don't think anybody really was disappointed that burlonger went
- 6:04Speaker 2: to see I don't think anybody cares, to be honest.
- 6:06Speaker 3: With you, Prolongo is not Puerto Rican. We would not
- 6:08Speaker 3: care about him, agreed.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know, I'll agree with that. We're just in hitchins.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He showed a lot of promise, you know, we were.
- 6:15Speaker 2: You and I have talked about his career going forward.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We were excited about what he was doing.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And yeah he's kind of he's hitched his wagon to
- 6:23Speaker 2: uh to Dana White. Uh but yeah, I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I mean, yes, Dana White was backed ZUFA was backed
- 6:30Speaker 2: by Sonny Money as well. But you're not gonna I'm
- 6:32Speaker 2: not gonna sit here and act like Dana White as
- 6:33Speaker 2: nicol and diming his way through anything like that. Man
- 6:36Speaker 2: is has a shipload of money, a shitload of influence, Uh,
- 6:40Speaker 2: not just in sports, but politically and he's this is
- 6:44Speaker 2: the prime opportunity for him to just kind of step
- 6:47Speaker 2: in and uh take more fighters, get more hype, and
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, make more connections with the boxing side. He's
- 6:54Speaker 2: not universally loved. Oscar de la Hoya talks about him
- 6:58Speaker 2: all the time as as as we know, but money
- 7:02Speaker 2: talks and money and influence TALC and he has both
- 7:06Speaker 2: of those. So agree, I will say this, not knowing
- 7:13Speaker 2: where the future of money in boxing is going and
- 7:18Speaker 2: where the sadis are going to be, I think we
- 7:21Speaker 2: can definitely say that you and I have both said
- 7:24Speaker 2: that that high amount of money, those amount of paydays
- 7:27Speaker 2: have been detrimental in the bigger picture in the long
- 7:30Speaker 2: run for boxing because fighters get big paydays, they chill.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Fighters get big purses and they come in a sleep
- 7:37Speaker 2: in the ring, like the like Ryan Garcia and Devin
- 7:41Speaker 2: Haney and the times square to Buckle that you know
- 7:44Speaker 2: was put on and hyped up because they're getting their
- 7:47Speaker 2: check and they know it's going to be a bag.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So like, why would you work hard if it's guaranteed,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know what I mean? So I think that maybe
- 7:56Speaker 2: this could be in that sense, it could be good
- 7:59Speaker 2: that there's not guaranteed cash flow, and you know, the
- 8:03Speaker 2: studies did. We're absolutely willing to lose money on all
- 8:06Speaker 2: of these enterprises because because making money wasn't the point,
- 8:08Speaker 2: like I said earlier, so it was kind of it
- 8:12Speaker 2: didn't matter. They were funding their their image instead of
- 8:16Speaker 2: these events, so they didn't care about spending this money.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But when it's drying up, maybe you're going to are
- 8:21Speaker 2: going to see fighters working harder, taking more fights to
- 8:24Speaker 2: try to make that back.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting because fighters have been like this
- 8:28Speaker 1: for over ten years now. This is nothing new. We've
- 8:32Speaker 1: we've had this air wind. When did PBC is ten
- 8:38Speaker 1: years old? Right, Like we first have PBC fights and everything,
- 8:42Speaker 1: that big deal with Al Hayman and all them came together,
- 8:49Speaker 1: that was like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, if not mistaken.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Since since ever since then, god's been chilling. I mean chilling.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I mean one every eighteen months, one fight whenever they
- 9:02Speaker 1: feel like it, or they'll fight somebody they have no
- 9:05Speaker 1: business fighting, just to say they're fighting, and they'll fight
- 9:09Speaker 1: like a main challenger every two and a half years,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and it's like, nah, that's not how boxing works. But
- 9:15Speaker 1: when the money was really good, you can get away
- 9:17Speaker 1: with that. Like I like Dandy Garcia a lot either
- 9:20Speaker 1: fringe boxing Hall of Famer. He might even make the
- 9:22Speaker 1: Boxing Hall of Fame, and I wouldn't have a problem
- 9:24Speaker 1: with it. But that guy getting like five million fights
- 9:27Speaker 1: like as a headliner in like eight million, Like it's
- 9:30Speaker 1: like all right, man, like he cool, but you know
- 9:34Speaker 1: as Enny Garcia like all the respect, like cool, but
- 9:37Speaker 1: he's not a bad fire at all. But you just
- 9:39Speaker 1: think of guys at headline fights with certain like tears.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You don't think of him as a guy like headlining
- 9:46Speaker 1: a fight and making a boatload of money. It's just
- 9:48Speaker 1: not there. He can't a lot of card, but it
- 9:51Speaker 1: better be a strong card, it better be a regional card.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So those are the things that you think of when
- 9:55Speaker 1: it comes to like fires, like PBC put a lot
- 9:58Speaker 1: of guys in that that way. Like I will say
- 10:01Speaker 1: PBC did give us Earl Spence really early. They put
- 10:04Speaker 1: him in a lot of fights early. He was on
- 10:06Speaker 1: undercards of other guys, So they did do a good job.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But the big guy at the top that were like
- 10:11Speaker 1: headline and making money, they got kind of lazy in
- 10:14Speaker 1: my eyes, to where they only fought so often to
- 10:17Speaker 1: where it wasn't it wasn't the best interest of the sport,
- 10:20Speaker 1: It was at interest of set boxer, and that was
- 10:22Speaker 1: the issue we had.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a really good point, and let's not for it. Yes,
- 10:27Speaker 2: you said, PBC Premiere Boxing Champions For those of you
- 10:30Speaker 2: all out there who don't know that, they started in
- 10:33Speaker 2: twenty fifteen, and you can see the decline in the
- 10:36Speaker 2: number of events they've had each year. It's less and
- 10:38Speaker 2: less and less, to the point where they were going
- 10:40Speaker 2: from like a couple dozen down to like less than
- 10:43Speaker 2: less than twenty to less than ten, et cetera. So
- 10:46Speaker 2: it's a very steep decline. And yeah, the big story
- 10:48Speaker 2: with PBC is that they were just putting out way
- 10:52Speaker 2: more money than they were bringing in and it wasn't
- 10:55Speaker 2: great for them. You can give credit for for yes,
- 10:58Speaker 2: things like Errol Spence in some matchup s same way
- 11:00Speaker 2: you can give credit to Turkeyola Shake for putting on
- 11:03Speaker 2: Beople versus Better Beev you know, Canelo versus Crawford, which
- 11:08Speaker 2: you know, we we've we talked about at nauseum.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So I'm not.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Gonna sit here and say that you know, the end
- 11:16Speaker 2: result of their entering into boxing didn't yield good fights
- 11:21Speaker 2: and good matchups because I've sat here and praised those matchups,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and you know, was stoked about Canelo Crawford. So I
- 11:29Speaker 2: don't want to be hypocrite about it, but I will
- 11:31Speaker 2: say that, you know, uh, the company, the combination of
- 11:35Speaker 2: huge guaranteed paydays the folks that aren't truly deserving is
- 11:38Speaker 2: a It's just a bad combination in the grand scheme
- 11:40Speaker 2: of things, is my my my opinion on that. I
- 11:45Speaker 2: I wouldn't be upset if we go back to a
- 11:48Speaker 2: time where you know, people were really working hard. Boxers
- 11:51Speaker 2: were really working hard for a big pay day, even
- 11:55Speaker 2: if they're a name, even if they're a star. I mean,
- 11:58Speaker 2: this is not a sport.
- 11:59Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I was going to say, no offense to to live golf,
- 12:03Speaker 2: but actually all offense because golf is into sports is
- 12:05Speaker 2: boring as ship. Let's let's not even.
- 12:09Speaker 3: That.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I'll never agree with that, but the point is that
- 12:14Speaker 2: boxers working way harder than golfers. You know, they're already
- 12:18Speaker 2: working way harder than golfers, and they're more deserving of
- 12:21Speaker 2: bigger paydays. Like I won't ever disagree with that, but
- 12:26Speaker 2: also they should not be getting to the point where
- 12:28Speaker 2: they're just chilling.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And you know, so that's what's the compromise. What is
- 12:32Speaker 1: the how do you satisfy both parties? How do you
- 12:35Speaker 1: give boxers what they deserve while keeping guys active. Do
- 12:40Speaker 1: you have like a requirement on how many fights you
- 12:42Speaker 1: got to fight at a certain time?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Do you have a cap on money? It can be
- 12:46Speaker 3: made like what do you do here?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Well? And I at the end of the day, you're
- 12:50Speaker 2: always gonna have to invest more upfront, So I think
- 12:53Speaker 2: we should just be putting younger names, big uh, more
- 12:57Speaker 2: fights more often to build a base, to build a
- 13:00Speaker 2: fan base, and at the end of the day, it's
- 13:02Speaker 2: gonna be both sides. Is that we're gonna have to
- 13:04Speaker 2: bring in more fans to then pay the money for
- 13:07Speaker 2: the for the shit, uh because if there's not big,
- 13:13Speaker 2: big donors, we're gonna have to get bringing money from somewhere,
- 13:17Speaker 2: you know, from any kinds of sponsors. But if they're
- 13:20Speaker 2: not enough eyeballs watching, it's not gonna make a difference.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You know, there's always gonna be money loss. That makes sense.
- 13:26Speaker 1: A bigger issue is this, we used to create stars.
- 13:30Speaker 1: We haven't had a star in a while, and I
- 13:33Speaker 1: mean a star like Chance Crawford became the star because
- 13:36Speaker 1: he won, But we need a star from early, Like
- 13:39Speaker 1: we need a star. Star Secure has star capabilities, but
- 13:45Speaker 1: we'll see what I mean. A star like Oscar del
- 13:47Speaker 1: Hoya was a star. Floyd Mayweather was a star. Might
- 13:51Speaker 1: we need one of those? Like we love boxing. We'll
- 13:54Speaker 1: always watch boxing if it's on, if it's on to me,
- 13:57Speaker 1: if it's on pay per view, if it's on on
- 14:00Speaker 1: the Spice channel, We'll always watch box and that will
- 14:03Speaker 1: never be an issue. But you need we needed to
- 14:06Speaker 1: the point where the demand is higher. We can want
- 14:09Speaker 1: fights all we want, it's not gonna change the demand.
- 14:12Speaker 1: What we do need is the average to the random
- 14:17Speaker 1: person be like, hey, I missed that guy fighting. I
- 14:21Speaker 1: want to I can't wait to see that again. Or
- 14:23Speaker 1: I will pay one hundred bucks for that fight. We
- 14:26Speaker 1: need more of that, and I think we're missing that.
- 14:28Speaker 1: We need stars right now. We have a lot of
- 14:31Speaker 1: good fighters, like David been a ved is a very
- 14:34Speaker 1: very good fucking fighter.
- 14:36Speaker 3: However it's not a star.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He was out here this past weekend and he was
- 14:41Speaker 1: at a regular restaurant and he had his crew with him.
- 14:44Speaker 1: But it wasn't a big ordeal, like he can go
- 14:46Speaker 1: to a regular restaurant. We need to start to the
- 14:48Speaker 1: point where you can't go you can't go to a
- 14:50Speaker 1: regular breakfast restaurant. We need more of those involved. We
- 14:54Speaker 1: won't have that right now.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I agree, And I guess what I was kind of
- 14:58Speaker 2: getting at is that people didn't need to be stars
- 15:01Speaker 2: because they they were paid. You know, it's just like,
- 15:03Speaker 2: why would you try to make yourself into into a
- 15:07Speaker 2: big boxing star with your skills, with your how often
- 15:10Speaker 2: you're fighting with your consistency? Uh, if you already got
- 15:13Speaker 2: the back lined up. You know, you put the cart
- 15:15Speaker 2: before the horse, is what I'm saying. Uh. And yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 2: you know, yes Mike Tyson was a star, but you
- 15:23Speaker 2: know that man worked his way from goddamn poverty, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 2: deb your homelessness, Uh to get there. He wasn't just
- 15:31Speaker 2: hyped up and then put on social media back by
- 15:34Speaker 2: a bunch of advertising being like he's the next big thing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Uh.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And you know, has a lot of YouTube views and
- 15:39Speaker 2: then ended up crashing and burning. We're we're getting a
- 15:42Speaker 2: little too far ahead of ourselves and saying this YouTube
- 15:46Speaker 2: clips of these guys, it's going to lead to a
- 15:48Speaker 2: big audience.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So you're saying social media is kind of ruining things
- 15:52Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I don't want to say ruined. I want to say
- 15:55Speaker 2: that it's people might be putting too much stock in
- 15:58Speaker 2: it nowadays.
- 15:59Speaker 3: You need it.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You you can't be you know, a well known name
- 16:03Speaker 2: and popular without social media. We're on it. Shit, I'm
- 16:06Speaker 2: my fat faces.
- 16:06Speaker 1: On more popular on social media than they're on their craft.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So somebodh might like Ryan Garcia is more popular on
- 16:13Speaker 1: social media than he is in boxing, you know, I
- 16:16Speaker 1: mean just in general, YouTube, the whole nine, which helps
- 16:19Speaker 1: his brand.
- 16:20Speaker 3: However, I don't know if it helps his craft. Like
- 16:22Speaker 3: that's the thing.
- 16:23Speaker 1: At the end of the day, we both can probably
- 16:25Speaker 1: agree that we have not seen the best of Ryan
- 16:28Speaker 1: Garcia for whatever reason that may be. But on social
- 16:31Speaker 1: media he's a superstar on social media, agreed.
- 16:36Speaker 2: And yeah, I know, I'm not going to be the
- 16:37Speaker 2: social media hater the grampye. That's like kids these days
- 16:40Speaker 2: are only on TikTok and they don't read books. Like whatever, man,
- 16:43Speaker 2: you can you can do both. But I think they're
- 16:46Speaker 2: just too much emphasis on hype social media and becoming
- 16:50Speaker 2: a star rather than becoming the best fighter you can
- 16:53Speaker 2: be and making yourself just undeniable, you know, unignorable. If
- 16:59Speaker 2: that makes it so right, and this might be a
- 17:03Speaker 2: good thing, this might make we need guys that are
- 17:05Speaker 2: hungry again. You know, we've talked to on the show,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and we specifically have talked to a lot of young fighters.
- 17:10Speaker 2: We have an interview with a couple of guys that
- 17:13Speaker 2: box in Phoenix last week on our show here, on
- 17:15Speaker 2: YouTube and in our audio platforms. Those are young guys,
- 17:18Speaker 2: a couple. One of the dudes only had two fights,
- 17:20Speaker 2: and you can tell they are hungry. They want to
- 17:22Speaker 2: be stars, and they want to get out there and
- 17:25Speaker 2: show what they can do in the ring. And I
- 17:28Speaker 2: love that. I love being able to see that in
- 17:30Speaker 2: young fighters doing the show, and we just need to
- 17:33Speaker 2: encourage that, you know, we need to show up for
- 17:36Speaker 2: these guys, remember their names, follow them, you know, follow
- 17:39Speaker 2: up with them, and make sure they were that if
- 17:41Speaker 2: we like a guy's skills that, you know, we support
- 17:43Speaker 2: them and build people from the ground up.
- 17:46Speaker 3: You know, I agree.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So I don't know, I mean, I'm not I
- 17:54Speaker 2: don't I'm not pessimistic about the future of boxing. If
- 17:57Speaker 2: the Saudi's have less influence. I'll tell you that I'm
- 18:01Speaker 2: pessimistic if Dan White has more influence. But that's another
- 18:04Speaker 2: conversation we have here in another topic. Let's move on
- 18:10Speaker 2: to this speaking of me having to give credit where
- 18:14Speaker 2: I don't feel like it. I've complained on the show
- 18:17Speaker 2: that you know, boxing is a nonlinear television that is
- 18:21Speaker 2: no longer on ESPN. You can't find it if you're
- 18:23Speaker 2: at a Dieve bar. If there is a top ranked
- 18:26Speaker 2: fight on Friday or Saturday nights, well there is boxing
- 18:30Speaker 2: on ESPN. Last Friday, Jake Paul's MVP put on an
- 18:34Speaker 2: all women's boxing match. Alicia Bomgardner fought Boneme Ration last Friday.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I watched three fights. All of them were awesome. For
- 18:43Speaker 2: those of any viewers listeners who don't know, women's boxing
- 18:46Speaker 2: is capped at two minute rounds versus three for the men.
- 18:49Speaker 2: It's capped a ten rounds versus twelve for the guys.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Alicia Bombagarner actually went and by miration they went three
- 18:55Speaker 2: minute rounds, so they did ten rounds to three minutes. Cool.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I think that if women want to do that, they
- 19:02Speaker 2: should absolutely have the opportunity to do three minute rounds
- 19:05Speaker 2: twelve round Max. They can have the choice if they
- 19:09Speaker 2: both agree to it. And it was awesome. It was
- 19:12Speaker 2: a great fight. Alicia Boumgunnar was amazing. She moved, She
- 19:16Speaker 2: moved very ali like, you know, hands down, shuffling around,
- 19:20Speaker 2: sticking and moving with the jab and just putting on
- 19:23Speaker 2: a great show. And you know, then there's more MVP
- 19:28Speaker 2: women's boxing events going to be going forward in ESPN.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So anybody who knows me knows I hate Jake Paul.
- 19:35Speaker 2: If he has one hater, that's me. If he has
- 19:37Speaker 2: no haters, I am dead. I will be fair and
- 19:40Speaker 2: give him credit for promoting women's boxing. I would like
- 19:45Speaker 2: it more if he didn't try to get in the
- 19:48Speaker 2: ring himself and didn't have to hear his voice or
- 19:50Speaker 2: look at his stupid face. He was there doing you know, commentary.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I'm surprised he could do that after Anthony Joshua broke
- 19:57Speaker 2: the shit out of his jaw, and also it's coming
- 20:00Speaker 2: through with terrible Let's be honest. But again I've complained
- 20:06Speaker 2: about boxing not being on linear TV at the very least,
- 20:08Speaker 2: that dude is not only doing that, but putting women
- 20:12Speaker 2: fighters at the forefront, which definitely don't get enough credit
- 20:16Speaker 2: or respect as it is, and that is a good
- 20:19Speaker 2: thing that I can say that he did through created teeth.
- 20:23Speaker 3: What do you do? I agree, I'm with you and
- 20:26Speaker 3: as the thing.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So when it comes to people like Jake Paul, what
- 20:29Speaker 1: I try to do is try to separate my feelings
- 20:33Speaker 1: for them for what they're currently doing. So I may
- 20:36Speaker 1: have personal thoughts and opinions about said person, but if
- 20:39Speaker 1: they're doing something for the greater good, I can appreciate
- 20:42Speaker 1: that while separating my individual feelings for said person. And
- 20:46Speaker 1: either way too, it goes both ways, Like if I
- 20:49Speaker 1: if I have a strong feeling towards somebody or they
- 20:52Speaker 1: use something dumb, I'm able to differentiate both things then
- 20:56Speaker 1: be fair for over the situation.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Maybe for this one. Look here, man, Jake Paul don't
- 21:02Speaker 3: have to do this. He don't.
- 21:03Speaker 1: He got a lot of other ventures he get into
- 21:06Speaker 1: for him to be able to, you know, put some
- 21:08Speaker 1: money in people's hands and promote something he don't have to.
- 21:11Speaker 3: It's I actually appreciate. I can.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I can get behind it because he knows his brand value.
- 21:17Speaker 1: He knows that he can call any network and get
- 21:20Speaker 1: anything done. And it feels like he's doing it for
- 21:23Speaker 1: the greater good. I don't think he's doing it for exposure.
- 21:25Speaker 1: He's not doing it for any of the purposes. So
- 21:28Speaker 1: if that's the case, salute to him, because how many
- 21:31Speaker 1: promoters have been talking a big game for the last
- 21:34Speaker 1: five years. Every Thursday we see Oscar Lay talk crazy
- 21:38Speaker 1: on Twitter on Instagram, and he ain't doing shit all
- 21:41Speaker 1: he doing talking records every week. But I no solutions.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I don't mind having a problem. We all got issues
- 21:47Speaker 1: and problems. We need solutions. Boxing is too great, too
- 21:51Speaker 1: beautiful of a sport. Then I have no solutions, all right.
- 21:54Speaker 1: So if Jake Paul had a solution, well, shit, you
- 21:57Speaker 1: know what Jake Paul is. If that's that's about sound
- 22:01Speaker 1: and reasonable situation, then hey, if he's if he's putting
- 22:05Speaker 1: money in people's hands and putting together good fights, we
- 22:08Speaker 1: can't complain.
- 22:09Speaker 3: We can't. We certainly can't. That's all we have.
- 22:11Speaker 1: That's all we've been asked for since the first episode
- 22:13Speaker 1: of this show. That's all we ever asked for.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Oh I can, I'll still complain, but but you're right again.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I just it's it's so hard for me not to
- 22:21Speaker 2: be a guy dam hater. But uh, he is doing
- 22:24Speaker 2: the thing that I've that we've been talking about, and
- 22:26Speaker 2: he is building stars out of these women. You know,
- 22:27Speaker 2: uh for people that I've always said two before I
- 22:31Speaker 2: even was a part of the show, just to friends
- 22:34Speaker 2: that a women's boxing match generally is always going to
- 22:37Speaker 2: be more exciting than any dude's boxing match. And I
- 22:40Speaker 2: think part of it too is the two minute limit
- 22:43Speaker 2: that they that they mostly have on rounds is because
- 22:45Speaker 2: they don't have a lot of time to set up traps,
- 22:47Speaker 2: show bring IQ. They're going out there and they're fucking
- 22:49Speaker 2: brawling like they're trying to close the show. Also, they
- 22:52Speaker 2: have only have ten rounds typically, so they're trying to
- 22:55Speaker 2: get out there and show that they're dominating in as
- 22:58Speaker 2: little time as possible, even if they're not getting a knockout.
- 23:01Speaker 2: They're trying to show the judges that, you know, they're
- 23:03Speaker 2: the dominant fighter in a shorter time period, and the
- 23:06Speaker 2: end result is some really awesome brawls. Alicia Bumgarner for
- 23:11Speaker 2: this round said for this fight, said that, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 2: the three minute time extension gives her a chance to,
- 23:19Speaker 2: you know, show off some ring. IQ move differently and
- 23:21Speaker 2: you can see that you can see like the gear
- 23:24Speaker 2: is working, but for both fighters knowing that they had
- 23:27Speaker 2: you know, uh, ten extra minutes in that ring. So
- 23:31Speaker 2: uh but yeah, I think if if, if people really
- 23:34Speaker 2: don't are are at all curious about boxing and want
- 23:38Speaker 2: to see like how exciting could be find women's fights
- 23:42Speaker 2: like start there and you're gonna, yeah, you're gonna get
- 23:44Speaker 2: a real, real good show. So uh, shout out to
- 23:49Speaker 2: the MVP promoter for putting these these fights on ESPN,
- 23:55Speaker 2: and I will I'll go. I'll be there for the
- 23:57Speaker 2: next one and I'm very excited for for the next fight.
- 24:02Speaker 2: That's fair, That was right, that was hard. Okay, another
- 24:07Speaker 2: potential fight that could be a good one. This one.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I'm actually I think that we I want to see
- 24:12Speaker 2: him very interested in this and I think is the
- 24:14Speaker 2: right next move. Connor Ben said he wants to fight
- 24:17Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia, and Ryan Garcia said he's he's interested. So
- 24:21Speaker 2: Connor Ben, British fighter he signed with ZUFA Boxing for
- 24:26Speaker 2: one for one fight, got a really big pay day.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I forget what it was, but it was kind of
- 24:31Speaker 2: ridiculous how big it was compared to the younger guys
- 24:34Speaker 2: and how much money they probably wouldn't make with ZUFA
- 24:37Speaker 2: boxing and how the rules work and how it's all
- 24:39Speaker 2: top down blah blah blah. So it was very much
- 24:43Speaker 2: like it was a flex like see see what we
- 24:46Speaker 2: can do, we can get a big name. Connor Bank
- 24:48Speaker 2: Ben was just off of his win against Chris you
- 24:51Speaker 2: Bank and it was very much it was it was
- 24:55Speaker 2: a dick swinging move. We were rated explicit. We could
- 24:59Speaker 2: say that, uh. Now to be very Conor band is
- 25:02Speaker 2: a great fighter. He just had an excellent performance against
- 25:05Speaker 2: Regis Progray at the UH in the card where Tyson
- 25:09Speaker 2: Fury returned a couple of weeks ago, and he looked fantastic, fast, strong,
- 25:15Speaker 2: a lot of sticking and moving, and I think this
- 25:17Speaker 2: would be the optimal choice for Ryan Garcia's next move. Uh.
- 25:22Speaker 2: We already talked about the back and forth with Hami
- 25:26Speaker 2: uh and how Haney said that fight might be gone
- 25:30Speaker 2: or they're kind of fighting with each other online. Then
- 25:33Speaker 2: he uh he called out Shakur and there was like
- 25:36Speaker 2: complaints about wait, blah blah blah blah blah, a lot
- 25:39Speaker 2: of yapping, not a lot of you know, things getting done,
- 25:41Speaker 2: the usual, the usual. Yes, but this actually could be
- 25:46Speaker 2: a very good opponent, you know, I was a little
- 25:48Speaker 2: I was on record is rooting for Mario Barros because
- 25:51Speaker 2: I expected him to move a little bit better, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 2: have better ring IQ. He let me down, Danny, Mario Barrows,
- 25:58Speaker 2: you a fellow Texan. Let me down. I appreciate he
- 26:00Speaker 2: always shows up and shouts out Palestine. But connor Ben
- 26:05Speaker 2: has already demonstrated those skills that I was hoping Mario
- 26:07Speaker 2: bart has had in the ring and could absolutely be
- 26:10Speaker 2: a challenge for Ryan Garcia even if Ryan is at
- 26:15Speaker 2: his absolute best, uh not what he looked like against Roly,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but if it is top tier, I think this would
- 26:21Speaker 2: be top tier competition for him. And connor Ben has
- 26:23Speaker 2: a lot of hype behind him right now. Obviously he's
- 26:26Speaker 2: got the big big name Dana White and boxing. Sorry,
- 26:30Speaker 2: he's got the the big hyped up name in both
- 26:35Speaker 2: Dana White and the promotion company backing him on this,
- 26:38Speaker 2: which means we could actually see it happen and not
- 26:41Speaker 2: just be you know, yep, a yap, yap, and I
- 26:43Speaker 2: would be excited. What would you think about a Ryan
- 26:44Speaker 2: Garcia Connor Ben matchup?
- 26:46Speaker 1: Fun fight, fun fight, a lot of a lot of action,
- 26:49Speaker 1: a lot of intrigue going into it for sure. I mean,
- 26:53Speaker 1: Ryan's Ryan. You know, he's always He's not not a
- 26:55Speaker 1: dull guy. He's always something's gonna be going on pre fight,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and I l I even post fight. With that being said,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I don't think it's a bad thing. I mean, that's
- 27:04Speaker 1: the match. What we get, that's what we get. I
- 27:06Speaker 1: mean to me, shakurzo the guy that brought Wade. Honestly,
- 27:09Speaker 1: what he does next. He's the leader of the packet
- 27:11Speaker 1: at the moment. But uh, if Ryan fights him like,
- 27:14Speaker 1: that's a it's a good test for the summer. It's
- 27:17Speaker 1: a very good bout and hopefully that leads in something
- 27:20Speaker 1: in the fall, Like that's the main thing. You're hoping
- 27:22Speaker 1: that this gets done and then whoever ones is gets
- 27:25Speaker 1: a bigger fight in the fall.
- 27:26Speaker 3: We go from there. So I don't mind at all.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they said they were aiming for this summer or fall.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Of course, you know, the negotiation could always end up
- 27:35Speaker 2: extending that, but that's this they said that they would
- 27:37Speaker 2: like to do that. I would actually prefer to see
- 27:40Speaker 2: this instead of a right Ryan versus Shakur because the
- 27:43Speaker 2: whole thing with the you know, the weight and whether
- 27:45Speaker 2: they're gonna but it just seems more realistic Connor Ben.
- 27:49Speaker 2: He I think that so that last fight he was
- 27:52Speaker 2: at one ranker Season one forty seven, It's probably not
- 27:56Speaker 2: even unrealistic for Connor Ben to lose a couple more
- 27:59Speaker 2: pounds or for Ryan to go up to a super welterweight,
- 28:04Speaker 2: so conceivably they could both. I would believe that they're
- 28:08Speaker 2: both bigger guys that cut weight, so they could meet
- 28:11Speaker 2: it at a super welter eight one fifteen. And Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 2: the reason I think this is I would be more
- 28:18Speaker 2: interested in this than a Shakhor fight is because the
- 28:22Speaker 2: excuses are already there. That's saying that Ryan's a bigger
- 28:24Speaker 2: dude and chakurz too scared to go up, and then
- 28:27Speaker 2: she coursay he should meet me because he called me out.
- 28:31Speaker 2: And then if if Ryan does lose to Shakur, you know,
- 28:35Speaker 2: or rather Shakur loses to Ryan, the fans are going
- 28:38Speaker 2: to be, well, you know, Ryan was just bigger, it's
- 28:39Speaker 2: not a good matchup, blah blah blah. You know, I
- 28:42Speaker 2: I say this is a Shakor fan and not gonna
- 28:44Speaker 2: say that, but I know that all that shit is
- 28:46Speaker 2: gon gonna come out, and I just we don't need it.
- 28:49Speaker 1: So two things. One, if you're the challenger, you got
- 28:54Speaker 1: to meet the champ. You got to meet them at
- 28:56Speaker 1: whatever they request.
- 28:57Speaker 3: That's how it goes.
- 28:58Speaker 1: If you're trying to get that belt, you're trying to
- 28:59Speaker 1: get that spot, you got to beat the champ at
- 29:02Speaker 1: wherever they're at, whatever they suggest. That's just the rules.
- 29:05Speaker 1: That's how the rules have always been, how you slice it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: With that being said, once the papers are signed, once
- 29:11Speaker 1: the paper once to fight a set up, ain't no excuses,
- 29:14Speaker 1: ain't no nothing. Everybody agreed upon everything. So once we
- 29:17Speaker 1: see billboards and pictures and all that shit up, I
- 29:20Speaker 1: ain't trying to hear nothing from nobody, fans included, because
- 29:23Speaker 1: at that point you'all agree to the ship. Whatever, whatever's
- 29:27Speaker 1: on the table, you'll agree to it. So there's not
- 29:29Speaker 1: no oh, well I didn't know there's a rehydration clause,
- 29:32Speaker 1: or oh I didn't know.
- 29:33Speaker 3: No no, no, no, no, no, no, no no.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Everybody negotiated it, where negotiated, they signed off on it.
- 29:39Speaker 1: We have a fight. That's it. I ain't trying to
- 29:41Speaker 1: hear nothing about well, such and such to this. No, no, no, no, no,
- 29:44Speaker 1: we are we know everybody's measurements. Security been saying he's
- 29:46Speaker 1: the best in the world for a while. Now with shit,
- 29:49Speaker 1: let's see it. I don't want to hear no excusees
- 29:50Speaker 1: from him. I don't think we would. And Maryan's saying things,
- 29:53Speaker 1: so let's let's do it.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Let's do it, and I would, I would see it,
- 29:58Speaker 2: of course, I would be excited to see. I'm just
- 30:00Speaker 2: saying it's Connor Ben would be a more natural matchup.
- 30:04Speaker 2: But something that did come up in our TikTok comments
- 30:07Speaker 2: is that a couple people did say Ryan was the
- 30:09Speaker 2: one that called out Shakur. Okay, so I did forget
- 30:13Speaker 2: about that when I was complaining. So Shakur said, well,
- 30:16Speaker 2: then men go ahead be maybe well, hey, class come down.
- 30:19Speaker 2: So which is which I think is logical. But I
- 30:21Speaker 2: see as these and Meros used to say, you got
- 30:23Speaker 2: to hear both sides. I agree with you, if you're
- 30:25Speaker 2: the best, you have to you have to show it.
- 30:27Speaker 2: But I also agree that you're gonna call somebody out
- 30:29Speaker 2: then complain that they're not meeting you at your weight glass,
- 30:32Speaker 2: then why are you doing it?
- 30:32Speaker 1: What?
- 30:33Speaker 2: Don't even open your damp mouth. You know what I'm saying.
- 30:36Speaker 2: What Ryan should have said, probably is I want to
- 30:38Speaker 2: fight Shakur. I'll meet him at one forty one. I
- 30:41Speaker 2: don't remember what it was what he fought at one
- 30:43Speaker 2: forty and start there. Uh and then yeah, the negotiators
- 30:47Speaker 2: are gonna be what they're going to be. But for
- 30:50Speaker 2: all of those reasons, I think it's less likely that
- 30:53Speaker 2: we're going to see that fight. To be honest with you,
- 30:55Speaker 2: I would love to see it, but I just I
- 30:56Speaker 2: don't know. I think something's gonna They're just gonna be pigging.
- 30:59Speaker 2: There's gonn be pissing into the wind at each other.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I think that Connor Ben fight is more realistic. It
- 31:05Speaker 2: would be a lot of fun, It will be very exciting,
- 31:08Speaker 2: and yeah, I think it would also hype up. You know,
- 31:12Speaker 2: we've talked about how British boxing fans are huge, huge fans.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Connor Ben's their guy against Mexican American Ryan Garcia. I
- 31:19Speaker 2: think this could be a potentially great fight. And uh,
- 31:25Speaker 2: if if we're going to talk about Ryan's next move,
- 31:28Speaker 2: I would rather we say you know that we want
- 31:31Speaker 2: this one, and then if you want to fight your
- 31:33Speaker 2: cur or whatever, like, just sign the papers or don't.
- 31:36Speaker 2: But I think this is something that I would be
- 31:38Speaker 2: looking forward to for this year as a really really
- 31:40Speaker 2: fun fight. I could go either way.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I think, I agree that's a that's you want to
- 31:47Speaker 1: momentum heading into a big fight.
- 31:49Speaker 3: So I agree.
- 31:49Speaker 1: If he knocks off Ben, then yeah, that makes total sense,
- 31:52Speaker 1: makes total sense.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so guys, put it. Let's put it onto the universe.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I want to see Ryan Garcia and Connor Ben the
- 32:00Speaker 2: ring this year, damn it. So uh speaking of fights
- 32:05Speaker 2: that are coming up that are have a lot of
- 32:07Speaker 2: hype behind them. Friend of the show Jordan Martinez from Phoenix,
- 32:12Speaker 2: last scene calling out now yeah in a way on
- 32:14Speaker 2: our show when I interview him. He fought in February
- 32:18Speaker 2: and Glendale, Arizona on the Manuela Verret the card. Fought
- 32:22Speaker 2: a guy named Cardinas. It was a draw, but everybody
- 32:27Speaker 2: it was a great fight. And Eddie Hearn was actually
- 32:31Speaker 2: in the ring spurring on saying like, hey, we want
- 32:35Speaker 2: to see the running back, don't we. You know, the
- 32:36Speaker 2: fans saw a great fight and we want to We
- 32:39Speaker 2: want the next the next one to see you know
- 32:41Speaker 2: what happens next. And he put it out there to
- 32:44Speaker 2: the people saying, do you want to see them run
- 32:45Speaker 2: it back. Everybody in the in the arena, I you know,
- 32:50Speaker 2: lost their ship, myself included. And it's happening in June,
- 32:55Speaker 2: so there's gonna be another Arizona based boxing even so,
- 33:00Speaker 2: unless anything crazy happens, I will plan to be there.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Uh So, what I want to say with this not
- 33:04Speaker 2: only you know, shout out to Jordan Martinez for giving
- 33:07Speaker 2: giving me a chance to interview him, but it's really
- 33:10Speaker 2: cool to see just like one of our local guys,
- 33:13Speaker 2: lesser known dude, smaller name, getting hyped up by somebody
- 33:16Speaker 2: like Eddie Hern after an excellent performance. And it goes
- 33:19Speaker 2: to show that a draw doesn't necessarily mean, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 2: the end of your career or you know, it's not
- 33:24Speaker 2: going to derail him, especially if he puts on a
- 33:26Speaker 2: great performance.
- 33:27Speaker 3: A draw is fine, a loss is what it is.
- 33:30Speaker 1: But a draw, like, depending on how the draw went,
- 33:33Speaker 1: draw not gonna be do It's not gonna be the
- 33:35Speaker 1: end of your day.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Like it's it's okay. Like you know, I think we've
- 33:38Speaker 3: gotten as fans, we've been so.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Immune to box was caring about being undefeated rather than
- 33:47Speaker 1: fighting great fights. You know, we've we've gone to the
- 33:50Speaker 1: point where fighters are not fighting the best they can
- 33:53Speaker 1: because they want to be undefeated.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Instead of putting on the best performances. So you know,
- 33:57Speaker 3: I'm with you. I'm with you one hundred percent.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I absolutely I've always disliked that of you know,
- 34:04Speaker 2: having an all in your record, being like, you know,
- 34:07Speaker 2: it just shows you you're the greatest ever. Like some
- 34:09Speaker 2: of our most amazing fighters have o's, you know, when
- 34:11Speaker 2: very few come out with that without them. You know,
- 34:14Speaker 2: of course we got Bud Crawford and Flood Mayweather or
- 34:16Speaker 2: the two that come to mind immediately, but many patio
- 34:20Speaker 2: head l's, you know, Mohamada Lely had l's. Is not
- 34:23Speaker 2: to say that we're going to look back and look
- 34:24Speaker 2: them like losers.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Come on, I mean all the ogs have Ray Robinson
- 34:27Speaker 1: as the best boxer ever, So I mean it is
- 34:29Speaker 1: what it is, right like, So it's one of those
- 34:31Speaker 1: things where boxing is the one sports where even the
- 34:36Speaker 1: guy's undefeated, he's not the best ever, if that makes sense.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Roy Jones Junior are just looking up now ten losses
- 34:44Speaker 2: on his record, like.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Roy different had cast purposes for five of them. So
- 34:49Speaker 1: that's a whole different thing. We can't, we can't. That's
- 34:52Speaker 1: the whole Roy.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Don't count what I'm saying.
- 34:56Speaker 1: So Roy in the black community was up there with
- 34:59Speaker 1: Tyson and Floyd when he lost an oh, No in
- 35:03Speaker 1: O four. When he lost an O four, it was bad,
- 35:08Speaker 1: Like it was really really bad. Like Roy to us
- 35:13Speaker 1: is like I want to say, del Hoyd, that's not fair.
- 35:15Speaker 1: But he's he's up there, while he's up there, up there,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and yeah, man, it's it's unfortunately that the last ten
- 35:23Speaker 1: fights they whatever they've been, it's been rough.
- 35:27Speaker 3: It's been rough.
- 35:28Speaker 2: No, I'm absolutely not. I'm with you. All I'm saying
- 35:32Speaker 2: is that someone like that, with an amazing record, an
- 35:35Speaker 2: amazing legacy of moving up all those weight classes, is
- 35:38Speaker 2: still seen as like one of the greats. Him having
- 35:41Speaker 2: ten l's for whatever, that doesn't You're not gonna say
- 35:44Speaker 2: Roy Jones sucks, sucked because he had ten losses. Come on,
- 35:47Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying, is that right? Is that you
- 35:49Speaker 2: know nobody's gonna say that Roy Jones isn't that great
- 35:52Speaker 2: because he didn't come out with an OH when he retired,
- 35:54Speaker 2: Like that's yeah, I'm with you, I get it, and
- 35:57Speaker 2: I especially the ability the ability to go through that
- 36:01Speaker 2: many weight class because what was his lowest weight class?
- 36:04Speaker 2: Was it like middleweight, like on the lower end.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I remember he went up to fight really ease, I believe,
- 36:12Speaker 1: at like one seventy five I think. But he was
- 36:17Speaker 1: a big middle I want to say he was at
- 36:20Speaker 1: one sixty for most of his career. I want to
- 36:23Speaker 1: say maybe even one fifty four.
- 36:26Speaker 2: The lowest middleweight that he thought that he fought at. Yeah,
- 36:29Speaker 2: the lightest.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I want to say he was that one sixty most
- 36:33Speaker 1: of his time. Most of his problems at one sixty.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken. I'm not mistaken. I could be all,
- 36:40Speaker 1: but I want to say I always felt that he
- 36:42Speaker 1: was at one sick. He was never because Dale Hoyas
- 36:44Speaker 1: I was at one forty seven, and they were never
- 36:47Speaker 1: even close to fire. They were never any Those were
- 36:50Speaker 1: two main attractions at that time. So yeah, to say yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 1: one sixty was was correct. I remember he went from
- 36:55Speaker 1: one sixty to like one seventy five, and we're like, oh,
- 36:59Speaker 1: this is this is this is a big move, like
- 37:02Speaker 1: you know, jumping like that. But it worked out for
- 37:04Speaker 1: him until it didn't because fighting John Ruye's is one thing.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Fighting other heavyweights not necessarily, no, no, no.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Well, and yeah, he went up to he was undisputed
- 37:17Speaker 2: at like heavyweight, won seventy five, which is that you
- 37:22Speaker 2: got to commend somebody going from one fifty four and
- 37:25Speaker 2: then progressing all the way up, because that's a that's
- 37:27Speaker 2: a big goddamn cap you know. Uh, you know, Hey,
- 37:30Speaker 2: I'm a I'm a Canilo fanboy. You know, I'm never
- 37:32Speaker 2: gonna I'm always gonna support my guy. But we saw
- 37:34Speaker 2: what happened when he went up to light heavyweight to
- 37:36Speaker 2: fight people. You know it real quick? Let me, I said,
- 37:40Speaker 2: you did bring up Canelos off. It's off our our
- 37:43Speaker 2: strip script here When was Canelo's prime? Like what years? Uh, Canilo?
- 37:49Speaker 2: What is the so he was your.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Pinpoint like this began it and this was the end
- 37:55Speaker 3: of it.
- 37:55Speaker 1: If that's if you can do that just just out
- 37:58Speaker 1: of curiosity, I'm just just thinking out out.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna say the prime was the if not
- 38:04Speaker 2: specific fights when he was middle weight. Yeah, because he
- 38:11Speaker 2: went up to because he's super middleweight undisputed right and
- 38:15Speaker 2: then went up to light heavyweight to fight people and
- 38:20Speaker 2: never looked back. So his his middle his middleweight years
- 38:24Speaker 2: are the best run. That's when he moved the best,
- 38:27Speaker 2: not to say that he didn't move really well when
- 38:29Speaker 2: he fought like Billy Joe Saunders and kayleab Plant. He
- 38:31Speaker 2: was fantastic in both of those fights. But you can
- 38:33Speaker 2: tell the lighter, uh lighter on his feet, the quick hands,
- 38:38Speaker 2: and the head movement of the middleweight Eric Canello does
- 38:42Speaker 2: not compare. Uh. And what I've always said is he
- 38:45Speaker 2: was a little guy that beefed up, and he did
- 38:47Speaker 2: well beefing up, but he was when he was a
- 38:51Speaker 2: little guy and moved like a little guy. Yeah, I
- 38:53Speaker 2: don't know. I mean, I guess the uh the coach
- 38:56Speaker 2: uh Coto and Cohn is kind of like the things
- 39:00Speaker 2: always go back to that, you know. The con knockout
- 39:03Speaker 2: is what I always remember from Canelo because that's in
- 39:05Speaker 2: his uh this isle real forever and ever. But uh, yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 2: I want to say that without any specific fights, his
- 39:13Speaker 2: middleweight years is what he looks the best.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Got it.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm just curious, Yeah, yeah, what what made you bring
- 39:19Speaker 2: that up?
- 39:20Speaker 3: Nose?
- 39:21Speaker 1: I always like to ask people when it comes to
- 39:23Speaker 1: the greats, when when was their prime? Because that's always
- 39:26Speaker 1: we don't talk about the greats before their prime whole
- 39:28Speaker 1: lot or even after. When we talk about the greats.
- 39:31Speaker 1: We refer to them as their prime. So like when
- 39:33Speaker 1: you think of Mike Tyson, you think of his prime,
- 39:36Speaker 1: When you think of Floyd Charce Crawford, Canelo, Oscar, the
- 39:40Speaker 1: list goes on and on and on with then about their prime.
- 39:43Speaker 1: So I was always curious of, you know, your judgment,
- 39:46Speaker 1: because obviously you know you're you said Canello famble, which
- 39:49Speaker 1: is all the way, fine, He's an ALI fighter, one
- 39:51Speaker 1: of the best VI generation. I'm always curious about, you know,
- 39:55Speaker 1: other people's definitions of the other people's peaks, that's all.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say the era and that the Triple
- 40:01Speaker 2: G fights. You know, the way that he moved one
- 40:04Speaker 2: of the like you could say, oh, well this person
- 40:06Speaker 2: when that person won, draw just the way that you
- 40:08Speaker 2: know he looked in those fights. That shit was like
- 40:11Speaker 2: our producer is telling us, I'm naming like a twenty
- 40:14Speaker 2: fifteen era twenty fifteen to twenty twenty ISHO Okay, So yeah, sorry,
- 40:19Speaker 2: I didn't have the year. Yeah, I didn't have the
- 40:21Speaker 2: specific years up on top of my head. But yeah,
- 40:24Speaker 2: I would say that that's uh, the best Canelo has looked.
- 40:27Speaker 2: And I don't want to take anything away from him
- 40:31Speaker 2: for that Run when he fought uh is it Callum
- 40:35Speaker 2: Smith was the British guy. Then he went Billy Joe Saunders.
- 40:40Speaker 2: That that year of him, you know, go on the
- 40:43Speaker 2: Undisputed Run was incredible, especially that Caleb Plant fight. I
- 40:47Speaker 2: went out with a few people, went to see it
- 40:50Speaker 2: at at the Neighborhood Bar, and Tucson packed. This hello,
- 40:53Speaker 2: amazing night, like one of the best nights of my life.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Is just how much fun I was having with that
- 40:58Speaker 2: huge crowd standing room only was so packed. When he won,
- 41:02Speaker 2: the place just like exploded, like ears were ringing my throat.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I could barely speak the next day because I was
- 41:09Speaker 2: screaming so loud that night. So you know, not to
- 41:13Speaker 2: say that that's to diminish his his achievement there in
- 41:17Speaker 2: any way, but again in terms of how he looked
- 41:19Speaker 2: in the ring middle wait Manu and also also our
- 41:24Speaker 2: producer Jabari Davis there. I got to tell you this
- 41:26Speaker 2: story when we went to the Neighborhood packed, this hell
- 41:28Speaker 2: I was. We were with a group of like, let's say,
- 41:30Speaker 2: like six people total, ordering drinks and food easily like
- 41:36Speaker 2: three hundred bucks two to three hundred bucks in our tab.
- 41:39Speaker 2: I have no idea how this happened probably because there
- 41:41Speaker 2: was a group of like thirty people behind us ordering
- 41:44Speaker 2: bottles in that we got three receipts and they were
- 41:47Speaker 2: like twenty thirty bucks for each receipt that like my
- 41:52Speaker 2: party got, so I was like, well split it, like
- 41:54Speaker 2: we should have we we should have paid like ten
- 41:57Speaker 2: times as much as we ended up paying that night.
- 42:00Speaker 2: I'm sure it was like a mistake and where food
- 42:03Speaker 2: was put because there was you know, bottles and and
- 42:06Speaker 2: shots and wings coming out with like you know, amongst
- 42:10Speaker 2: like fifty people at a time. But damn that that
- 42:13Speaker 2: was the cherry on top, like getting trash, getting home safe,
- 42:18Speaker 2: by the way, getting a new verse, so let's be
- 42:20Speaker 2: clear of that, but absolutely getting trashed, eating a shit
- 42:22Speaker 2: ton of great food and walking out of there. You know,
- 42:25Speaker 2: it's spending like less than one hundred bucks per person. Shit,
- 42:29Speaker 2: but but that's inside there. Yeah yeah yeah, so.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:34Speaker 2: So uh. You typically, you know, our show goes every
- 42:38Speaker 2: other week, and next week would typically be an off week.
- 42:41Speaker 2: But for for the summer at least, you know, we're
- 42:42Speaker 2: doing weekly content and actually have a really cool announcement
- 42:46Speaker 2: that we talked about, uh for for next week. So uh,
- 42:51Speaker 2: next week, I and friend of the show, Tony, someone
- 42:54Speaker 2: I know, will be releasing an episode entirely in Espanol.
- 42:58Speaker 2: So we're gonna be talking about not just the David
- 43:01Speaker 2: Benavita fight, which is happening on May second, that's the
- 43:06Speaker 2: episode released next week before the before that fight, but
- 43:09Speaker 2: we're gonna be talking about Mexican boxing in general, kind
- 43:12Speaker 2: of the history of it. Tony actually dropped kind of
- 43:14Speaker 2: a spicy take when he was on our show last
- 43:17Speaker 2: He said that a Mexican American boxer won't ever have
- 43:23Speaker 2: the fame, influence, whatever cultural relevance of a fighter from Mexico,
- 43:29Speaker 2: like born in Mexico, And you know, that's a really
- 43:33Speaker 2: interesting opinion. Kind of got a lot of discussion going
- 43:36Speaker 2: on on our TikTok page, most mostly respectful, which I
- 43:39Speaker 2: really appreciate commenters for that. A lot of people disagreed,
- 43:42Speaker 2: so we kind of figured that we want to expand
- 43:44Speaker 2: on that. But when he and I spoke, was like, hey,
- 43:47Speaker 2: why not show what the show can do. You know,
- 43:49Speaker 2: we're multifaceted, baby, you know, we can talk we have sports,
- 43:53Speaker 2: we can talk pop culture, politics, and we can do
- 43:55Speaker 2: it in Espaion as well. So for any of y'all.
- 43:58Speaker 2: If any of y'all listening do not speak Spanish, I'm
- 44:02Speaker 2: not saying ignore next episode. Talk to your coworkers, to
- 44:05Speaker 2: your friends, any Mexicans or Spanish speakers that you have
- 44:08Speaker 2: in your life selling, Hey, listen to these guys. They
- 44:10Speaker 2: they they're really good at this. So I'm really really
- 44:14Speaker 2: stoked about it. I've never done anything like that and
- 44:16Speaker 2: like in media, so it'll be awesome. But yeah, so
- 44:21Speaker 2: for next week we wanted to plug. That'll be Thursday,
- 44:24Speaker 2: April thirtieth. We will be dropping that. So and if
- 44:30Speaker 2: you know this hits some people are responsive and exciting,
- 44:32Speaker 2: we'll do some more. I did when I interviewed him
- 44:35Speaker 2: on LA in February at the media day. You know
- 44:39Speaker 2: he's a Spanish speaker, of course, I interviewed him in Spanish.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I put his interview and others on TikTok and they
- 44:46Speaker 2: were bilabel and we're getting a lot of commentaris in Spanish.
- 44:49Speaker 2: So it was really cool to people desponding and then
- 44:51Speaker 2: me for me to be able to say, you know,
- 44:53Speaker 2: to interact with them. So we really want to want
- 44:57Speaker 2: to see what else we can do in that era.
- 44:59Speaker 2: So this is y'all. If you think the Mixed Company
- 45:03Speaker 2: Podcast has been killing it before, you know, interviewing professional
- 45:07Speaker 2: fighters like Navarete, Sean Porter, Bro. We are just getting started.
- 45:11Speaker 2: You do even know what the hell we got in
- 45:13Speaker 2: store for you coming up? So very very exciting, but
- 45:17Speaker 2: we'll wrapping up here for today. Jamison, where can people
- 45:20Speaker 2: find you on social media?
- 45:21Speaker 1: At Twitter at the Jamison that's the best spot. Man
- 45:25Speaker 1: got some fights coming up. It's gonna be cool. Started
- 45:27Speaker 1: to get hot, outsize it is a great time a year.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I summer in boxing always kind of feels like
- 45:34Speaker 2: it goes together. Of course, a lot of fights when
- 45:36Speaker 2: I was a kid. We're Saturday nights, but I associate
- 45:39Speaker 2: summers with staying up late, which I would do, which
- 45:41Speaker 2: I would stay up watching boxing anyway, So it kind
- 45:43Speaker 2: of gotta blenz together in my head. So I don't know,
- 45:46Speaker 2: summers should be like boxing season the way we have
- 45:48Speaker 2: football season and like basketball season. Yeah. So you can
- 45:54Speaker 2: follow our show on Instagram, Blue Sky, and TikTok. We're

- 46:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
