Latest / That Car Show / Derek Tam-Scott and Tazio Ottis Go for a Drive
Transcript
- 0:00There's not a lot of events in the States where you see these
- 0:02cars actively being hustled. I mean, you can go to Pella
- 0:05Beach and see them on the lawn and that's great, But there's
- 0:08nowhere where you can really see experience, watch the car in
- 0:14actually, and you can on this event.
- 0:16And I think that's really unique and really special.
- 0:20This week on that Car show, Ryan and I are joined by Tozio Otis
- 0:24and Derek Tam Scott. The three of them just got back
- 0:27from a week on the Colorado Grand and it was as epic as
- 0:30you'd imagine. We talk about the people, the
- 0:33cars and the roads of the Colorado Grand, what makes a
- 0:36good grand car and why they want to return next year.
- 0:40Also, Derek and Taz share about their business, OTS and Co, and
- 0:44what it's all about. They are true enthusiasts who
- 0:47really know their stuff and it was fun getting to know them.
- 0:50We know you'll enjoy the conversation.
- 0:52It's that car show. That car show is brought to you
- 0:54by Sheffield Watches. Sheffield is the storied
- 0:57watchmaking brand that was revived a couple of years back
- 0:59by her good friend Jay Turkbus, and it's seen wild success in
- 1:02both the car and watch enthusiast communities.
- 1:05Sheffield offers a wide selection of watches, many
- 1:07inspired by the iconic designs of its 1960s dive models, most
- 1:11notably the one that Jay's parents gave him in 1970, which
- 1:14ignited his lifelong passion for watches.
- 1:17Sheffield watches are high quality, reasonably priced and a
- 1:20great value. Sheffield has truly become the
- 1:23car guy and car girls watch of choice.
- 1:26Order your Sheffield watch at sheffieldwatches.com.
- 1:30Give them a follow on the Gram at Sheffield Under Score, all
- 1:33Sport under Score watches and tell them that car show sent
- 1:37you. Hey, it's that car show.
- 1:39And if you're a fan of the show, you've at least heard of the
- 1:43Colorado Grand. I'm lucky enough to say that
- 1:46I've just returned from this year's Grand, and so have the
- 1:49two guests joining me and Lindsay tonight.
- 1:52The Grand, if you don't know, is 1000 miles driving some of the
- 1:55world's best vintage sports cars and racing cars, and some of the
- 1:58greatest roads that Colorado has to offer.
- 2:01Generally speaking, the cars are model year 1960 and earlier, and
- 2:05they really are some of the greatest cars in the world
- 2:07there. There are always a number of
- 2:08significant Ferraris, including again this year what I think is
- 2:11the only unrestored nineteen 57250 Testarossa 2 words,
- 2:16several competition Maseratis, multiple Jaguar C&D types, a
- 2:21dozen or so classic 300 SLS, along with Allards, Invictus
- 2:25launches, Bentleys, Aston Martins and absolutely other
- 2:28amazing stuff. And what's neat is that it's
- 2:31also a non profit with annual giving to the communities we
- 2:34visit, something near $1,000,000 each year now, which is
- 2:37incredible. In the names, Derek Tam Scott
- 2:40and Tatio Otis are probably familiar as well.
- 2:43Taz and Derek are two of the three proprietors of OTS and Co,
- 2:47a specialty car brokerage in Berkeley, CA Taz is also a noted
- 2:51racer and a mechanic along with his father Patrick.
- 2:54And Derek hosts along with Jason Camisa, the highly regarded and
- 2:57masterfully named Carmudgeon Podcast, which is part of the
- 3:00Haggerty Podcast Network. So welcome Derek and Taz to that
- 3:05car show. Thank you for having us.
- 3:08Thank you so much. Glad to have you.
- 3:11So we've been home for a few days now from the grand.
- 3:13What are you telling people about your grand experience?
- 3:16First thing is probably that I miss Colorado.
- 3:18Yeah, it's a pretty. Great state, right?
- 3:20Yeah. It's, it's weird to not be
- 3:22buzzing around in like a 50s Italian car every single day.
- 3:26Like I think the first day I woke up and I was ready to jump
- 3:29back into that leather seat and kind of be deafened for a day.
- 3:34And when that didn't happen, it was a little weird.
- 3:36So what'd you guys drive? We were in a 1956 Alpha
- 3:41Giulietta Sprint dubbed of Veloce, but it's kind of an
- 3:46abnormale. OK so very very hot rodded for
- 3:51what it is, but all like period conversion stuff. 3 shoe brakes.
- 3:56Has a limited slip rear end in it from a GTV that was modified
- 3:59to fit drum brakes in the back still to keep it appropriate.
- 4:04A big bore kit in the 1300 so still the original block but
- 4:08with bigger Pistons in it and some hot it up cams and some
- 4:13suspension stuff. So a real hot rod for a 1 1/2
- 4:17liter car. Nice, nice.
- 4:19As you can tell, has built the car more or less OK.
- 4:23Yeah, I'm very intimate with it because I did turn a lot of
- 4:26wrenches in. What's the?
- 4:27Story with the car. Where did you find it?
- 4:29How did it get to where it is today?
- 4:31My dad chased it for quite a while.
- 4:36There was the show in Alameda which is close to us called the
- 4:38All Italian Car Show and this older gentleman would bring it
- 4:41out every single year. That was kind of the cars outing
- 4:44for the year. And my dad was really good
- 4:46friends with him and he kept that car and an SC in a hangar
- 4:51in Hayward. And my dad befriended the guy
- 4:55and chased it for probably 20 years or so.
- 4:57And then eventually towards the end he obtained it, which was
- 5:01maybe 8 years ago now. And then I did resuscitation to
- 5:06the car and made it the hot rod that it is.
- 5:10And that guy Earl was the original owner.
- 5:13It should also be getting Wow. Yeah, so 2 owner car.
- 5:17Wow. That's.
- 5:18Amazing. So what inspired you to hot rod
- 5:20it once it was in your family? I My first car was an Alpha
- 5:25Julieta that rolled over on the California melee.
- 5:28I. Spent my.
- 5:30Before you bought it. Yeah, before I bought it in 92,
- 5:34before I was born, and it was in a garage in San Francisco.
- 5:38And prior to me obtaining it, I saw Julietta for the first time
- 5:43when I was maybe 12 and thought that it was the prettiest car
- 5:46I'd ever seen and told my dad I need to have one.
- 5:49And then I also told everyone else I knew that and that he
- 5:52knew that I needed to have one. And eventually one of my dad's
- 5:55friends said well I have one if your son wants to fix it.
- 6:00So I did. I spent a summer break.
- 6:04A shop down the street from us had a rusty except for the top
- 6:07car. So I cut the top off of that,
- 6:08welded it on and then brought it to a paint shop and did a ton of
- 6:12bondo and painted it. Learned how to paint a car,
- 6:15which I don't think I'll do again, when I was 14.
- 6:18And then that was my first car and I stupidly sold it for a
- 6:21race car. So when we got another Julietta,
- 6:24I wanted to set off on doing everything that I would have
- 6:28done to that car. And you had that chance to do
- 6:32it. That's really cool, yeah.
- 6:33Yeah. And so now that you have had the
- 6:36chance to fulfill that dream and then spend like a concentrated
- 6:40amount of time in it on this amazing rally, are you happy
- 6:45with what you did? Is there anything you do
- 6:47differently? Like what are your feelings
- 6:48about it now? Yeah, I mean, I think there's
- 6:51probably some subtle things that I'd do differently.
- 6:53I'm pretty thrilled with the car.
- 6:55I think like these cars, there's a never ending list and
- 6:58especially when you are like flat out in them for five days,
- 7:04you build yet another list of things like some that you need
- 7:08to repair and some that you would just like want to do so
- 7:11it's more comfortable. And so yeah, it's, I'm really
- 7:15happy with it, but there's certainly a lot I want to do
- 7:18more with it. Well, that's fun because it
- 7:20means it's an ongoing, like you're still engaged, it's an
- 7:23ongoing project and you're not just like, all right, now what?
- 7:26Yeah, I think there's these handful of cars that hopefully
- 7:29will be forever, cars that you like just kind of continue to
- 7:31make better for the rest of your life and then you're happy.
- 7:36Yeah, You don't have any issues on the Grand, right?
- 7:38The car was strong. You didn't have any mechanicals
- 7:41or anything? We blew up a voltage regulator.
- 7:44Oh, you did? Yeah, so we did that.
- 7:48I think like there was some passes you're you're climbing
- 7:51for a 1 1/2 liter car at elevation, like climbing 11,000
- 7:55feet is a ton. So there's these times where
- 7:59especially on the roads that are there, you'll be full throttle
- 8:03for, I don't know, 5-7 minutes just kind of flat out.
- 8:09And I think that might have been a little bit much for the
- 8:12regulator to regulate. So, yeah, we failed that.
- 8:16The tack failed on the drive back from Vail on the 5th day
- 8:20when we were dropping the car off at back at Blue Chip back to
- 8:25Denver. I think those were the two major
- 8:28things, Derek, you might remember something else.
- 8:30The transmission mount needs some altering as well.
- 8:35Yeah. I mean, the, the car received a
- 8:38transmission transplant I think a week before the event.
- 8:42And so there was maybe a little more refinement to do on
- 8:46completing that swap because earlier this year we did the the
- 8:50California melee in the car and the transmission showed that it
- 8:54was pretty well used up. And so this the car got a new
- 8:57transmission or rebuilt transmission before this event a
- 9:01week before, Yeah. And further refinement may be
- 9:05needed in terms of locating the transmission.
- 9:07Sure, sure. So you did the, the, the
- 9:10California meal A how did the 2 events compare?
- 9:13I've never done that. I know it's a Haggerty event.
- 9:15I know it's lovely. It's wonderful, but I think it's
- 9:18a very different kind of terrain, right?
- 9:19And, and some different kinds of cars and things.
- 9:22How did the 2 compare for the the two of you I guess?
- 9:26I think we both felt similarly, which was that we preferred the
- 9:29Colorado Grand, which surprised me all the more because I think
- 9:33the California melee is a more suited event to a 1 1/2 liter
- 9:37car. The roads are incredibly
- 9:39different. The California melee is, you
- 9:42know, largely sea level. I don't think you ever go above
- 9:441500 or 2000 feet. And the roads are very tight and
- 9:48technical and small, you know, tight, tight first gear
- 9:53sometimes. And so there's the car is very
- 9:57well suited to that and the big Ferraris and stuff like that
- 9:59with this big Jag XKS, which are a little bit, you know, maybe
- 10:02not as light on their feet, are not that well suited to the
- 10:05melee. And so you think the alpha would
- 10:08be the alpha is happier on those roads.
- 10:11But Despite that and, and by contrast, the Colorado Grand has
- 10:15a lot of big open countryside where you're kind of flat out a
- 10:19lot even in a big car, certainly in a little car.
- 10:23And so you, the, the roads are more suited to the car.
- 10:27But I think we still prefer the Colorado Grand for a number of
- 10:30reasons, which we can go into at length.
- 10:33But yeah. Please do.
- 10:36Yeah, let's hear. It because I I think, you know,
- 10:38people had had come straight from the Melia right and done
- 10:42other events this year and and I think the refrain was largely
- 10:45the same that people really enjoyed the grand and and and
- 10:48you know, and we didn't even have very good weather this
- 10:50year, right? We got rain down.
- 10:51What was it? At least two of the days.
- 10:53Yeah, good rain in two days for sure.
- 10:55Yeah, yeah. I think, I think that the yeah,
- 10:59I think that the rain, there's a lot of aspects of this event
- 11:02that make it feel a little bit more hardcore.
- 11:04And I think that was the word that we were using throughout
- 11:06the entire event, which it's something that both Derek and I
- 11:09seek when we go on these events. The Kalmile was very, very fun
- 11:14and the roads are great and the atmosphere is great and there's
- 11:17great cars. But it seemed I don't, I don't
- 11:21think soft is the right word for it.
- 11:23But there was a lot of roads that you could cut out.
- 11:26If you want to go to the spa early, you can kind of do the
- 11:28morning loop and then go back to the hotel.
- 11:32Yeah, it was it. Was sort of a your own adventure
- 11:35ish. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:37I mean, you can follow the route book to the T, but I think there
- 11:39was only so many people that probably actually did the full,
- 11:43let's say, 1000 miles of the event.
- 11:46Yeah. We felt like outliers for having
- 11:48done every mile. Yeah.
- 11:50Really. Yeah, we're really excited that
- 11:52we did the whole event right, that we did every single mile,
- 11:55whereas I think a lot of people didn't do the whole event.
- 11:57And meanwhile, you have so many people here like Nierberg and
- 12:02his Jag that's in a downpour, you know, in AD type with a
- 12:07helmet on that is out there first thing and doing every
- 12:10single mile and hustling the thing and all that.
- 12:13And I think the atmosphere and the way the people approach this
- 12:16event, it just feels a little bit more hardcore.
- 12:18And there there's not really the option to do half the day and go
- 12:21back to the spot you kind of do the whole day.
- 12:24I think that we really like that the lunch spots seem to be at
- 12:26extremities where you have to make it out to the lunch in
- 12:29order to eat, and then you'd have to make it all the way
- 12:31back. It's not like you could go do 50
- 12:33miles and then, you know, have an oyster and then come back.
- 12:36Not that that's bad, but it's just different, yeah.
- 12:40Well, yeah, like the it's because I know the cow mele is a
- 12:44very elevated event in terms of sort of the overall experience.
- 12:47But it sounds like the Colorado Grand is very focused on
- 12:52driving. Definitely.
- 12:53Yeah, I think that's exactly right.
- 12:55And I think that, you know, some of the real enthusiasts come out
- 12:59and they bring their real cars, which I think is interesting.
- 13:02I mentioned Charlie in in that D type with that shark fin and
- 13:06that thing, this dark green car, right?
- 13:08It's just this epic, epic car. And how many D types were there?
- 13:12I mean, this wasn't the only three.
- 13:14And then how many C types? I mean, it was just but but his
- 13:19stood apart. That's just an awesome car.
- 13:21He's a hell of a guy too, so. No, the yeah, I mean, I think
- 13:23the people in the cars here are unbelievable.
- 13:27I think that something that Derek and I worry about often is
- 13:30what the future is for a lot of these cars, especially in the
- 13:33States. You know, you go to events like
- 13:35Goodwood or you go to Lamont Classic and you see grids of
- 13:38these cars and then you think that, you know, at least people
- 13:40are using them overseas. But there's not a lot of events
- 13:43in the States where you see these cars actively being
- 13:45hustled. I mean, you can go to Pelham
- 13:48Beach and see them on the lawn and that's great, but there's
- 13:51nowhere where you can really see experience, watch the car in
- 13:57actually, and you can on this event.
- 13:59And I think that's really unique and really special, yeah.
- 14:01That's really cool. Well, and so for people that
- 14:04don't like I haven't been on the grand, the three of you have
- 14:07obviously. Can you do a brief description?
- 14:11Are you staying in the same place all the days and you do
- 14:14trips, like day trips out or do you move throughout the week?
- 14:19Is it a combination? Like, can you give kind of a
- 14:21brief overview of the event for people that haven't done it?
- 14:25Yeah, I'll let you guys talk. I mean, this year was a little
- 14:27different because we only stayed in two, two towns and often
- 14:31times were in three places. So we did less moving from from
- 14:34place to place. So it's maybe a little more A to
- 14:36a this year. But yeah, I mean, what do you
- 14:38guys, what's your take on it? Yeah, I mean you.
- 14:40So you generally you have a place that you set off from and
- 14:44you either return there or you go somewhere else.
- 14:45But it's a day of, you know, driving most of the day.
- 14:50And you, you have a morning stop and an afternoon stop in
- 14:52addition to lunch in the middle. And, you know, while we were
- 14:56talking about how the California melee is really elevated, the
- 14:59Colorado ground is not exactly roughing it either.
- 15:02For example, there's a luggage truck that brings all your
- 15:05luggage for you so you don't have to put it in your car,
- 15:07especially if you don't have space for such things or weather
- 15:10protection. And there's a mechanical team as
- 15:14well that follows the entire route with truck and trailer and
- 15:17tow trucks so that if there's any issues, they can sort of
- 15:22intervene and try and nurse the car to the end or get it to the
- 15:24night stop and try and do a more substantial intervention to try
- 15:28and get the car back on the road for the next day.
- 15:30And so it's enough meals are all planned out.
- 15:33And you know, there's a charity aspect to the Grand also, which
- 15:37is not present in the meal. And we can return to that
- 15:41momentarily 'cause I'm digressing from the question
- 15:43that you asked. You are, you know, either a
- 15:48couple days you will go back to the place you started and other
- 15:50days you end up in another place.
- 15:52But there's a sensation certainly of going somewhere in
- 15:55the Colorado Grand, which I would say is less present with
- 15:58the melee because the melee routes tended to be sort of
- 16:01concentric circles overlaid on each other.
- 16:03So if you overlaid the route, it would just be a bunch of
- 16:05spaghetti in a pile. And the, the Colorado Grand was
- 16:08more like, oh, we're going to Wyoming today.
- 16:11You know, it's an entirely different state somewhere you
- 16:14might have passed by yesterday. But I think we only like went
- 16:18through the same place like once or twice throughout the entire
- 16:21frame. Although we did spend the last
- 16:24two nights in the same place where we started from, which,
- 16:27you know, was sort of nice because, you know, you get a
- 16:31sense of how things work and how the parking's going to be and
- 16:33sort of it's it's it's also a nice place to be.
- 16:36But Vail that is. So yeah, it's a pretty, there's
- 16:41definitely a sense of going somewhere for sure.
- 16:44I, I understand that other years, previous years, there's
- 16:47been a lot of different night places.
- 16:52I mean, I think you go to different places each each day
- 16:55and maybe that was different this year because of the amount
- 16:57of people that were on the event.
- 16:59Yeah, I think this was a record year.
- 17:00I think we had 131 or 134 cars or some crazy amount.
- 17:05I think you beat the record by 20 or 30 cars.
- 17:08Yeah. And logistically, that's a
- 17:09little bit difficult, right? I mean.
- 17:10It is. It is.
- 17:12Finding that many rooms at a singular place, you need to
- 17:15maybe stay at a resort and find out and accommodate that and the
- 17:18dinners and the parties and all that in.
- 17:21The car and you mentioned going up to Wyoming, right?
- 17:23I mean, there are only so many directions you can go and
- 17:25Nebraska really isn't an option. What So, you know, I think my,
- 17:31this was a great route, don't get me wrong, but I think my
- 17:33personal favorite route is when we get down to Telluride and
- 17:35over to Durango or down to Durango and over to to Moab.
- 17:39That's I. Heard that over and over again.
- 17:41Is that right? Yeah, you want to.
- 17:42Hear that? Yeah.
- 17:43Yeah, you can't do it every year, but it is.
- 17:45I think that's my favorite. I mean, it's just to get a
- 17:47little bit of everything. I think Telluride might be the
- 17:49prettiest area of of all of Colorado.
- 17:51It's gorgeous. I think we're pretty.
- 17:53Motivated to return so. Fantastic.
- 17:55Love to have you back. And Speaking of pretty, you
- 17:59know, the alphas, even in the crowd, this crowded field of
- 18:02like, amazing, amazing cars, and we should come back and just
- 18:05geek out on the cars a little bit because there were truly
- 18:07some phenomenal cars. But the alphas are so pretty.
- 18:10I think you guys know our pal Dan Mcinnis, and he was there in
- 18:13his speciality. Yes.
- 18:16Julieta and. We actually found him that car.
- 18:22That's right. Oh.
- 18:23My gosh. Contacted me probably right
- 18:25after the grand last year because he rode as a passenger
- 18:28and I think that was his first time attending the grand.
- 18:31He said can you find me a Sprint spicale?
- 18:33And I don't know. Some weeks later I heard about
- 18:37one that was from a real friend's dad who's a realtor who
- 18:41found it in the garage of the house that he was representing
- 18:44for sale. And I said, hold on, I think I
- 18:46know somebody looking for this. So we, you know, turned him on
- 18:50to the car and, and he bought it.
- 18:51And fortunately there were many months that were available to
- 18:55him to prepare it because demands of 1000 miles on any of
- 19:00these 70 minimum 70 year old cars are pretty significant.
- 19:06And there were a lot of mechanicals.
- 19:07They're always, I think on these types of events are always a lot
- 19:10of mechanicals, mechanical interventions and issues,
- 19:13failures to proceed, you know that type of thing.
- 19:15So his car I think ran perfectly and I told him it did expired at
- 19:21the end of the grand and then I think his starter failed on the
- 19:24way. Home, Oh my God, that's when he
- 19:27wants to. Well, that's the important part
- 19:28is he made it through the event and I love that.
- 19:31It was like a semi barn find, a garage find.
- 19:34Yeah, that was neat. That was neat.
- 19:35I'm connecting the dots now. It was so also very neat to see
- 19:37Dan and his dad, Dad Billy, win one of the awards this year.
- 19:41I think it's the first time it's an award that's intended for
- 19:44someone who sort of passing it down to the next generation.
- 19:46This, you know, the spirit of enthusiasm, the spirit of the
- 19:48grand. Yeah.
- 19:48This time around it was. It was from son to father, which
- 19:51was a little different. But I couldn't think of two more
- 19:54meaningful, you know, or more meaningful a couple of people
- 19:57for it to go to. And that's a really it got a
- 19:59little teary eyed when that all went down that last night, you
- 20:02know, that last dinner. But.
- 20:04You could feel how much it meant to them, which was really.
- 20:07Cool, I mean. Yeah, it was certainly he.
- 20:09Separately provided us with the context that his mother was no
- 20:12longer around and they were kind of the only two left, and that
- 20:15added even more to it. As if it wasn't already enough
- 20:18emotional content to it. Yeah, really special.
- 20:21Yeah. Well, for them to get to do that
- 20:23together, I think like you were saying, Ryan, like there's a lot
- 20:25of, you know, not a lot of parents and adult children get
- 20:28to experience that. And for that to be acknowledged
- 20:31is really special. I mean, dance, such a fixture in
- 20:34the Colorado community, but also Southern California, you know,
- 20:38so he's such a, he's such a positive addition to the car
- 20:42community. So that's really fun.
- 20:43Yes, yes. And now I know where he gets it
- 20:45from. I think it was Thursday night.
- 20:47Dan and I said, you know, good night, went back to our our
- 20:50respective rooms, I think after a drink, after dinner.
- 20:53Meanwhile, his dad, Billy, who I think is nearing 80, was out
- 20:56till 2:30 in the morning with one of those gangs of folks
- 20:58closing down a dive bar. So I think you had a great time.
- 21:02Yeah. And and they look so good doing
- 21:05it again. That car is so pretty.
- 21:06All the alphas again, even in that, that, that crowded field,
- 21:09the alphas look so good. And I got to give you guys a lot
- 21:11of credit too, because you cut a a good look coming in with the
- 21:15white jackets, the OTS and Co jackets.
- 21:18I thought that was that was pretty smart.
- 21:20So well done. Thank you for that.
- 21:23We, you know, we've both, I think, grew up in this space
- 21:28interacting with these cars and, you know, learning all the good
- 21:31information and developing our taste from the people who came
- 21:35before us. And that's where our passion for
- 21:37this era of car comes from. And that's part of why we're so
- 21:40enthusiastic to share this entire era of cars, which, you
- 21:43know, one of our colleagues who's high school aged basically
- 21:48called them all pre war cars. He referred to a call in the
- 21:511980s as a pre war car today. Anything before not right hold.
- 21:55On now which war are we? Yeah.
- 21:58Exactly talking about the Gulf War.
- 22:01Right. Yeah.
- 22:03So, you know, Taz and I were lucky to grow up around this
- 22:05stuff and sort of even though we were stuff from decades before
- 22:09we were born, we as youths interacted with a lot and
- 22:13developed first hand appreciation, which I think is
- 22:14so important for having enthusiasm for these types of
- 22:18cars. Because if you don't have any
- 22:19first hand interaction with it, it's not meaningful to you.
- 22:22And these these events are exactly the types of
- 22:25interactions that make these cars meaningful to the people
- 22:28who who come in contact with them and ensure that they
- 22:31continue to be relevant. And I firmly believe that the
- 22:34combination of the Grand and the Calmile and the Mile Mile
- 22:38historical and all the events in Europe ensure that cars of this
- 22:41era continue to be sought after. I mean, I've talked to so many
- 22:44people who said I bought a car of this era for this event
- 22:47because I wanted to attend it. And it's creating and supporting
- 22:51the continued demand and interest in these cars.
- 22:53So I'm really enthusiastic about that aspect because I love these
- 22:56cars and I want more people to see them and love them in the
- 22:59same way that I do. That's.
- 23:00Really cool and that's I think that's reassuring to everybody
- 23:03in the car world because there's so much discussion I think
- 23:07founded or not, like, you know, do young kids want to get their
- 23:11licenses? Do they care about cars?
- 23:12They care about driving? And I think you're right, like
- 23:14more if you get the chance to have a, you know, kind of once
- 23:18in a lifetime experience like that with these cars, that's an
- 23:21emotional connection that like is going to last.
- 23:23It's. An important point because you
- 23:25know, the grand has been around since I think 1989 and the cars
- 23:30were also 1960 and earlier in 1989.
- 23:33And that is not a sliding scale like that hasn't changed.
- 23:36It will never change. So think about a car now that's
- 23:3929 years old, right? And what a different event it
- 23:42would be if we were all, you know, I don't know E 30s.
- 23:45I don't know what would that even not even like E Yeah, I
- 23:48mean, it's just they would. Those aren't old cars, right?
- 23:50Yeah. I don't.
- 23:51It doesn't feel like it. I mean, 99 was five years ago,
- 23:54right? Yeah.
- 23:55Basically, you know, I assume you guys are in your 30s, early
- 23:5830s or so. Yeah, a little bit lower.
- 24:01Late 30s. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:03OK. All right.
- 24:04I. Turned I turned 30 for the
- 24:05event. Right on.
- 24:07Congratulations. Happy birthday Just.
- 24:08For you yeah, yeah, fantastic. It's but it's, you know, you
- 24:12wouldn't, wouldn't necessarily have had, you know, experience
- 24:15with these cars and you do wonder about the future of
- 24:19things. And it is so important to bring
- 24:20younger people in. And it'll be a it'll be a
- 24:24challenge, I think. But the cars are just so
- 24:27inherently great, right? They're just great in a way that
- 24:30will never be made again, as you know.
- 24:33I think that's part of why we were there.
- 24:35I mean, this was the first time we tried to do it, but my sense
- 24:38was that there was some effort to bring a new, you know, group
- 24:42of people, younger group of people on board.
- 24:44And I thought that the the age mix was certainly more varied
- 24:48than I would had seen for example, on the Kalmile.
- 24:52There were certainly younger people there and some with
- 24:54pretty heavy cars. So, you know, I was, I'm
- 24:58encouraged to see that and I'm glad organizers are actively
- 25:02trying to shift the demographics or move the average age down,
- 25:06especially, you know, because it it helps ensure the future of
- 25:09the event that's run by a a board.
- 25:12And you know, those guys are thinking about the long term
- 25:14viability and wanting to ensure that it continues to happen.
- 25:18So we were delighted to be able to help with that.
- 25:22Russian. Take your part.
- 25:24Yeah, shout out to Tom Moran in the in the grand board who
- 25:28really do do a fantastic job. But I know that bringing younger
- 25:30folks in is, is certainly something that's, you know,
- 25:34that's at the forefront right now.
- 25:36And and you mentioned the heavy cars.
- 25:38We can we talk about the heavy cars because I was shocked the
- 25:42first time I walked into that garage a few years ago right at
- 25:44the stuff that was there. What stood out for you guys?
- 25:48Well if you want to start heavy I think you have to talk about
- 25:50the pre war Bentleys. Oh yeah.
- 25:52Those are all fair. Yeah.
- 25:55And. Literally and figuratively,
- 25:57right? Yes, literally and figuratively.
- 26:00I mean those cars there were, I think there must have been a
- 26:04feature of them that I noticed them all parked together one day
- 26:06at lunch and there was a high incidence of them 6-7 cars.
- 26:10Yeah, they're always popular. Yeah.
- 26:13And these are you know, Cricklewood Bentleys which is
- 26:15the original Bentley not like the after the Rolls Royce
- 26:18Bentley because Rolls Royce bought Bentley in 1931 and also
- 26:22all the Bentleys that won Lamar from before 1931.
- 26:25And the most of those Bentleys, with the exception of one, were
- 26:27all the pre the pre Rolls Royce Lamall winning era Bentleys,
- 26:32which are just these big massive, you know, Atori Bugatti
- 26:35called them the world's fastest lorries because they're so
- 26:39large. They look like steam engines and
- 26:41probably drive like them too. But those guys are super hard
- 26:44for oh. Yeah, and they drive the hell
- 26:46out of them. We.
- 26:46Were saying that they're most among the most reliable cars.
- 26:49Like the least interventions that they have to do are on
- 26:51those old Bentleys. Probably because they're
- 26:53effectively steam powered. I don't know.
- 26:56That's incredible, because that's not.
- 26:58That wouldn't be my first guess. Sort of like.
- 27:01Yeah, but I think they're so overbuilt, you know, they and
- 27:05say this is how strong something needs to be.
- 27:06They're just going to make it like a cast iron pot and say
- 27:09it's probably good enough. By.
- 27:11A factor of 3. Yeah, and it's so interesting.
- 27:14Some are steel bodied, some have cloth bodies, right?
- 27:17Some are short wheelbase, some are long wheelbase.
- 27:19I think that the the move is you get the short wheelbase but you
- 27:22get the engine from the long wheelbase car if I'm not
- 27:25mistaken. Yeah, so it's the eight litre is
- 27:27the biggest session that they did and the 8 litre cars were
- 27:30never raced. They were the 8 litres were big
- 27:33fast sedans or you know cabriolets, they were luxury
- 27:36cars. And So what you do is you take
- 27:38the 4 cylinder like the 4 1/2 liter car and put the 8 liter
- 27:42engine in it. And then it's, you know, it's
- 27:44like doing a big block. It's putting as an LS swap.
- 27:47Right, the original hot rodding. Yeah.
- 27:51Yeah, I think those drivers are some of the the biggest
- 27:53characters on the grand each year too, I would imagine it's a
- 27:57different breed. That's a different breed.
- 28:00Yeah, I think there's an ongoing joke that none of them will put
- 28:02their tops up right. I.
- 28:03Mean they will. They will.
- 28:04But we saw them with the roofs up and we made fun of them and
- 28:07told them they'd all gone soft erecting them.
- 28:11Yeah, but they took it. I mean, they, they felt bad,
- 28:13like they, you saw that they were.
- 28:15You could see they were guilty. Yeah, Yeah, exactly.
- 28:18Yeah. They're like, this is well
- 28:19deserved ribbing. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:21We've earned this. So so from have you.
- 28:24Oh, go ahead. I was going to say one question
- 28:26I have for you, Ryan, is it seems like maybe in past years
- 28:30there was more not just the Bentleys, but there was more pre
- 28:33war cars and there was the Riley there, right.
- 28:37But we didn't see any Bugattis and the only alpha we saw was
- 28:40the six C 1750 like the auto car and it didn't take part in the
- 28:46in the grand. And it was like probably my
- 28:48second favorite car of the event for objects when I saw it and I
- 28:52was so excited to see it actually take part in the event
- 28:54that it it didn't. I think it was someone's backup
- 28:56car. Yeah, yeah, it was a.
- 28:58Great backup car to have. But yeah, I'm curious, in in
- 29:01previous years, you know, was there more Pru or Alphas and
- 29:04Bugattis? So you bring up a good point.
- 29:08Most years there's a feature car and the feature car is something
- 29:11that maybe wouldn't ordinarily be, you know, represented in
- 29:14large, you know, numbers and sometimes it it's a car that
- 29:17wouldn't ordinarily qualify. So a couple years ago we did the
- 29:2173 Porsche Rs square Rs and I think we had like 15 or
- 29:25something, which was just cool to see.
- 29:27So, you know, there were two rings or lightweights.
- 29:28They're everything. Last year it was actually A6 CS
- 29:31and eight CS, So pre war cars and I again, I think we had
- 29:35eight or ten and that was so cool because those are just cars
- 29:37you don't see every day. I got I I was in one and I
- 29:40started talking to the owner and I said, well, tell me a little
- 29:42bit about the history of this one.
- 29:43And and he said, well, this belonged to the war secretary of
- 29:46Mussolini, but I have another car that actually belonged to
- 29:49Mussolini. I mean, this, these cars are
- 29:51just, you know, they're oozing history, right?
- 29:53I mean, it's it's, you know, talk about patina.
- 29:55But this is like a level beyond. And then, you know, so many of
- 29:58them are in that great alpha red, that dark red, you know,
- 30:01and what that's called. Well it sounds like Lamont
- 30:03brought his tipo bee last year, which was and also had new
- 30:07Valari history maybe in. Belgium, right?
- 30:10Yes, yes. That's a super.
- 30:12I mean, any Grand Prix car like that is unbelievable.
- 30:15And then to think about taking a Grand Prix car like that, 1000
- 30:18miles in Colorado flat out would be also wild.
- 30:22Not just a serious undertaking. Yeah, not just 1000 miles test,
- 30:26but I followed him. I don't know if you guys have
- 30:28ever heard of the $1,000,000 highway here in Colorado.
- 30:31So it is known as one of the most dangerous roads in the
- 30:34country. It's a road that wouldn't and
- 30:37couldn't be built now, but it started as like a a toll road
- 30:40for like Conestoga wagons or something back in the day.
- 30:43And it goes from Euray, Colorado to, is it Silverton kind of down
- 30:47there by Durango. And it's, I think 34 or 36 miles
- 30:52that literally is just on the edge of a, of a basically a
- 30:55ledge that's cut out of this mountain.
- 30:57And every year people drive off it.
- 30:59I mean, there's, there's no shoulder, you know, if you're on
- 31:01that, that Cliff side, there's the white line and then that's
- 31:04death, right? And, and there are parts where
- 31:06the road has fallen away and it's sort of scalloped and it's,
- 31:08it's terrifying. I, I stumbled across the road
- 31:11accidentally years ago when we moved to Colorado, but I got to
- 31:14follow Mott in that car last year as he drove that road and
- 31:18it started to rain and sleet. And I'm seeing this car just
- 31:21move and I'm just like in a trance, right?
- 31:23I mean, it's like, it's just, it was, it was, it was magical.
- 31:27It's just absolutely magical. And I should, we should give a
- 31:30shout out to our friends at Mercedes-Benz who bring a fleet
- 31:33of 6 or 8 AMG cars every year in case you happen to need a car,
- 31:36your car breaks down. But I was in an AM GGT, which
- 31:39was already pretty cool behind him, giving him proper space and
- 31:42all that. But just watching that car move,
- 31:44I mean, it was, it was, it transcended sort of the event,
- 31:47right? It sort of took you out of of
- 31:48where you were in space and time, and it was just, yeah, not
- 31:51to get weird on you, but it was really magical.
- 31:52It was awesome. It sounds like it was life
- 31:55changing, yeah. I'm gonna shut up now and we'll
- 31:57move on. But it was a moment.
- 31:59I had a moment that day and and no.
- 32:01I think that's cool, though. I mean, I, I think that is
- 32:03really seriously part of the charm and the magic of the event
- 32:06is that you get to see the cars in action.
- 32:09Yes. Right.
- 32:10You don't. You don't see that anywhere
- 32:12unless you go to another country, really.
- 32:16Even in California meal I think there were this one pre war car
- 32:19on the entire California meal. Really.
- 32:21OK, Yeah. Oh wow, not.
- 32:23Like 7. Oh yeah, another amazing car you
- 32:26just don't see. Yeah.
- 32:27Amazing. There were other, you know, some
- 32:29number of pre war cars. It was less than 10 probably,
- 32:32but yeah, you know, maybe around 10.
- 32:34Yeah. Well, to bring this back to your
- 32:36original question, there wasn't a feature car this year.
- 32:38So that doesn't happen every year.
- 32:41I'm sure you know we'll have another feature car next year,
- 32:43but. It doesn't seem like you really
- 32:45need it. I mean, there's like what, 6
- 32:48short wheel bases? There was like 14 or 15300 SL or
- 32:52gull wings, right? I mean there's like 2 pretty
- 32:55good features right there getting that many.
- 32:57Either in one place. Spiders.
- 32:59Yes, 2 PDFs. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:02And that's stuff you just don't see like that Invicta, right?
- 33:06You just don't. I didn't know what that was
- 33:08until I I started working with with the grand.
- 33:10I mean, that's just something you don't see.
- 33:12And it's funny that the 300 SLS are sort of like the cheater
- 33:15cars, right? Because they're easy to drive.
- 33:17They don't break down. There's one this year.
- 33:19I mean, they're just they're they're easy and you know,
- 33:21you're lucky to see one somewhere and to see, you know,
- 33:2414 or whatever. It's just.
- 33:25Yeah, it's an unimaginative choice in this context.
- 33:29It is which? Is wild, right?
- 33:30Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:32But it makes a lot of sense and ensures you're going to get
- 33:35where you're going to you were trying to go.
- 33:36And it has the cubes, the cubic inches, the performance to be
- 33:40genuinely useful because you know, the other choice to ensure
- 33:43that you're getting where you're going to try to go is the 356.
- 33:46But you know there are. That's why there's a lot of hot
- 33:49rod 356 inch because these guys are trying to make horsepower
- 33:52from a car that didn't originally have done that.
- 33:54And the 300 SL is also the solution to that, which is to
- 33:58have something with reasonable performance and, and durability
- 34:02and, you know, just it's a good grand car.
- 34:04So now I understand the phrase that X is a good grand car and
- 34:08what that means versus, you know, what might be a good
- 34:11calmile car and then different answers.
- 34:14Yes, right now, I'm glad you picked up on that.
- 34:16And and sort of at that end, I mean, the Emory Outlaws, the
- 34:20356's have sort of become, you know, the cheat code and who was
- 34:23there. But Rod Emery Co driving with
- 34:25with Tom the chair. And I don't know if you got, you
- 34:28know, any time with Rod, but he's a neat guy.
- 34:31Hell of a hell of a nice guy. Yeah.
- 34:33I mean the way that he's transformed.
- 34:34Those cars and the way that the amount of sort of gravitas
- 34:38around the the, his name and the cars that he builds has really
- 34:44brought those cars to an entirely new level.
- 34:46Yeah, yeah, I drove. With him one day.
- 34:49So five hours in the car with anyone, you know, is a test,
- 34:52right? I mean, it's a long time,
- 34:54especially in an old car. And and I was impressed with a
- 34:57couple of things. I was in, he was driving, I was
- 34:59in one of his customer cars. Not a squeak, not a rattle,
- 35:03right? And if you've been in an
- 35:04original 356, even a restored 1, you know that that's just not a
- 35:07thing. So I don't know what magic he
- 35:09does to those cars, but but also five hours and it was, you know,
- 35:13it was like 20 minutes. He was a great storyteller.
- 35:15He told the whole story about the, you know, how the business
- 35:17began. He lost his father in the week
- 35:19before the grand and yet delivered Tom's Emory and two
- 35:23other customer cars, right? Just a just a neat guy.
- 35:26And I I now I want an Emory too, right?
- 35:28They're they're just, they're great, right?
- 35:30They solve all the problems that a standard 356 might have for
- 35:33something. That's how they get you.
- 35:34You go on the grand. And ride in one and yeah, this
- 35:37is the secret. This is it's.
- 35:40It's also interesting to. Provide something that is a
- 35:44little bit more modern as an option for the event too, which
- 35:47I think is interesting. I mean, I guarantee you that
- 35:51there's no other car on the Grand that has like throttle
- 35:54bodies and Motech, right? And like just to say that in.
- 35:58Correlation to the grand almost seems like abnormal, but it's.
- 36:03Kind of a cool way where. You know, one also might not
- 36:07know looking from the outside in.
- 36:10And I think that's that's the neat part.
- 36:12But also it does make it a cheater car but.
- 36:16It has to be a certain Emory the the old car texture I think is.
- 36:19Substantially preserved with that car.
- 36:22I mean, obviously it's more modern in in some respect, but
- 36:25you know, if you will care to call that a restoma, There's a
- 36:28lot of restoma that take a lot more liberties in terms of
- 36:31modernizing a car where you lose the old car character.
- 36:35And I don't think those cars are on on that page.
- 36:38They still feel like old cars. That's that's it, which we like
- 36:42you mentioned there's a level of.
- 36:44Level of honesty there, which I think, Yep, they keep.
- 36:47Yeah, that's it. You mentioned.
- 36:49The name Charlie Nierberg, who's just such a great guy, spent
- 36:51some time with him too. When we were running to O'Reilly
- 36:54to get some parts for the D type and he was in one of the aisles
- 36:58and I just kind of elbowed the woman at the counter and said if
- 37:00you only knew the the car that these parts were going, you
- 37:04know, but he's got an Emory, He's got an early Emory, but I
- 37:06think it's a turbo Emory or something.
- 37:07And that car is not allowed because it's it's got the visual
- 37:11clues and the horsepower, literally.
- 37:14One of everything. Yeah, that.
- 37:17Does. I don't think there's like.
- 37:18A car he doesn't have that is also just not spectacular at the
- 37:21same time. No.
- 37:23And just a hell of a nice guy too.
- 37:24How about that other comp the the red one with the with The
- 37:26White Stripes that you saw it right, It was so good that the a
- 37:32short wheelbase or short wheelbase.
- 37:33I don't know what the stripes. Were some sort of race livery,
- 37:35You know, I think it was a comp car, yeah.
- 37:38Yeah, it had an art sticker. On it, right?
- 37:39Yes, yes, yes. Yeah.
- 37:42So there's probably an alloy. Comp car.
- 37:44I don't know the history of that car.
- 37:45Kind of had a presence though. You know, it was it was
- 37:48palpable. So what else, what else can we
- 37:51geek out on that just blew your minds?
- 37:52The Maseratis? Yeah, I think the the
- 37:55McAllister. You brought it up, the
- 37:56McAllister Testarossa is pretty spectacular.
- 37:59I mean, that's like the the Testarossa is, I think that the
- 38:02250 GTO gets kind of a lot of credit for the pathway that the
- 38:07Testarossa laid. I mean those cars from 57
- 38:13whatever to 61 were virtually unbeatable, right?
- 38:17And his particular car, what 1 Sebring, I think it went to
- 38:22Lamont. Maybe it was successful. 1
- 38:24Nurburgring with all great drivers.
- 38:27I mean, I think Von Newman sat in that car.
- 38:29Phil Hill probably sat in that car.
- 38:30There's, you know, champions that drove that thing, right?
- 38:34And I think the the special part about that car being at that
- 38:36event is it's highly original, highly preserved.
- 38:41The paint is chipping off of it in multiple locations, right,
- 38:44Kind of throughout. But it's really true.
- 38:47Honest. Yeah.
- 38:48It's just like it last raced, right, as an old race car and
- 38:53they've serviced it and it runs great.
- 38:55But it's how it was back in the 50s.
- 38:59Well, I think that sort of speaks to what?
- 39:01You two were saying as far as your experience on the grand and
- 39:03what spoke to you and and I think, you know, Ryan and I talk
- 39:07about this all the time too. It's like we're here because we
- 39:09love, we love cars, but we love driving.
- 39:12And so getting to see these cars being driven and enjoyed, and
- 39:16especially a car like that where you can literally see how it's
- 39:19been enjoyed and what that impact was on the car itself.
- 39:23Like I think that really strikes a chord for all of us because
- 39:27we're like, yes, it's being used for what it was designed to do
- 39:29and people are enjoying it. Yeah.
- 39:31I mean, those cars are so. So spectacular to drive any any
- 39:36Testarossa that is well sorted is such a such a phenomenal car.
- 39:42The feedback it gives you, the power it has.
- 39:45I mean, it's just I don't know if there's a more entertaining
- 39:50car from that period, which is why they were so successful too,
- 39:53but certainly a super special thing totally in a very.
- 39:59Valuable car. It's a, it's a high 2 digit
- 40:03millions number. And you know, for those of you
- 40:06listening who are afraid to take your Porsche out in the rain
- 40:08because it might melt, just know that the driver of this car took
- 40:11that thing through some pretty serious weather.
- 40:15It's an open car. You know, it's got a bunch of
- 40:18wires down in the in the footway.
- 40:21The paint's flaking off. To your point, it's worth a hell
- 40:24of a lot of money. And yet he was out there
- 40:26thrashing it in in the weather. I mean, it was just yeah, that's
- 40:30awesome. Well, the flip side also.
- 40:32Is that if it's worth that much, it's almost impossible to total.
- 40:35Yeah, that's true. That's sort of freaking right.
- 40:40Yes, that, no matter what. It's cosmetic condition is or
- 40:43anything that you know happens to it's sort of complete
- 40:45destruction. It's it's value is not going to
- 40:48really be effective. I also don't think I would ever.
- 40:51Want to paint that car again? Though I think that's part of it
- 40:53and if you heard it, you're going to have to it it's.
- 40:57It's got it's got this amazing sort of dramatic style numbering
- 41:01on it and it's just, you know, that it's obviously hand painted
- 41:04and it's just it's just again, just oozes, you know, patina and
- 41:09history and all that. But you've driven these cars
- 41:11jazz. Yeah, I was going to drive a.
- 41:15Testarossa at Velocity last year, which ended up being
- 41:19cancelled, but I did shake the car down a little bit.
- 41:23And my father and I have a 750 Monza, which is 2 years, two or
- 41:28three years earlier than that car, which is a 4 cylinder
- 41:31Ferrari similar to the TRC that was on the event with us as well
- 41:35a little earlier. Scalietti body design, bigger 3
- 41:40liter instead of two liter to the TRC.
- 41:44So yeah, I certainly have a lot of experience in the the
- 41:48Ferraris, maybe not as much in the Bentleys.
- 41:52And I understand your dad. Patrick is, is really one of the
- 41:55world's foremost 12 cylinder Colombo Ferrari engine guys.
- 42:00Is that right? Yeah, we've certainly done a
- 42:02lot. Of both Lampretti and Colombo
- 42:06engines at our shop. I think I've become a little bit
- 42:10more Lampretti biased, OK, because I've certainly built a
- 42:13lot more Lampretti and rebuilt a lot more Lampretti engines in
- 42:17recency, OK. But yeah, we've done a lot of
- 42:20both. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:22What is it about those? Engines that you prefer a
- 42:25Lampretti versus a Columbo? Yeah, because I don't know much.
- 42:28About, yeah, I think. They're just, they're, they're
- 42:33complex. There's a lot of things that you
- 42:36have to get right. The the four 10s, right, the the
- 42:382 four 10s, They're massive, nearly 5 liter huge, huge V12
- 42:44engine, right? There's a lot of things that you
- 42:46have to get right with those engines in order for them to
- 42:49work. They have screw in liners into
- 42:52the cylinder heads, so there's no head gasket.
- 42:55The reason they came up with I am pretty designed was to
- 42:58eliminate the head gasket because it is difficult to get a
- 43:01head gasket that could last some of these endurance races like
- 43:05the original Amelia or Le Mans 24 hours of events as such.
- 43:10So they came up with the Lampreidi design, that Lampreidi
- 43:14came up with, the Lampreidi design that functioned really
- 43:17well. But getting those engines to
- 43:20work well today is also yet another challenge.
- 43:23Yeah. What are those cars like to
- 43:25drive? I mean, because even, you know,
- 43:27in their day they were different, I think than
- 43:30everything else, right? I mean, they just they just
- 43:32magic. I mean, there must be a lot of
- 43:34work, but what what is it like to to wheel one of those?
- 43:39I think it kind of depends on the.
- 43:40Car. I think there was such
- 43:43differences in cars. Like I think that my Monza is
- 43:49such a such a fabulous car to drive, but it has independent
- 43:52front suspension and then it has a transaxle and a DDO rear end.
- 43:56And I think it was technologically very advanced.
- 43:59It's super torquey, only Revs to 6000 RPM, but you have a lot of
- 44:03torque at the bottom. But the car is, you know, very
- 44:06well balanced, works really well, slides around a corner
- 44:09really well. And meanwhile, like a couple
- 44:12years earlier, they're making 220 fives and two twelves that
- 44:16are transfers front lease spring.
- 44:19And you know, luckily there was none of those on the event.
- 44:21So I can say that they drive like a truck, right?
- 44:24And you know, I think. You know, it just kind of
- 44:30depends on What Car. That you're, you're Speaking of.
- 44:33Yeah. Yeah, just most of us will.
- 44:35Never have the you know the chance, right?
- 44:36So you know, all we can do is ask people like you states of
- 44:39tune and and stuff like. That the early Ferraris are
- 44:42basically a big number soup. I mean, they made all these
- 44:45different cars and they all have different numbers and they would
- 44:48sometimes give the same number to two cars that were extremely
- 44:51different. And so the the the type of car
- 44:56that it is, you know, it's open sports car.
- 44:59The car like Taz is describing or like a Testarossa was
- 45:01basically the equivalent of like a Lamont prototype in nowadays.
- 45:06And then the cars like GTO or SWB or TDF are more like GT3
- 45:10cars, which is to say 1 is like a clean sheet dedicated sports
- 45:14car thing that was specifically designed to win outright at
- 45:18endurance races and and non endurance races.
- 45:21And another car is sort of vaguely St. derived.
- 45:23And so it's less exotic and less like sort of out there
- 45:26technologically, but maybe more useful and well-rounded and like
- 45:30a more suitable car to use for on the street.
- 45:33And that's why it's all the more remarkable to see these very
- 45:37focused sports cars like Testarossas or TRCS or D types
- 45:41and C types, you know, any of these cars that don't even have
- 45:44weather equipment or roofs or windshields big enough for
- 45:47wipers. And to see these guys out there
- 45:48in the in all kinds of weather all day long in these things.
- 45:53And you know, these guys are obviously very wealthy in that
- 45:55that they choose to be so uncomfortable and are OK with
- 45:59it. You know, it's the opposite of
- 46:00this sort of fragile wealthy people that you know, would
- 46:03never do anything for themselves.
- 46:04These are all together, they're sportsmen basically.
- 46:07And you have all this tremendous respect for what it took to to
- 46:11get these cars to do this in period.
- 46:13And, and it's very much a sort of you feel like you've done
- 46:16something afterwards. Yeah, he mentioned the people
- 46:21too. I mean, that's kind of the whole
- 46:22other side of this, the conversations that you have
- 46:25during the grand and the people, you don't always know who you're
- 46:27talking to. Then you find out later someone
- 46:29elbows you and say, hey, you know what that was you're
- 46:31talking to. But some fascinating people with
- 46:33some fascinating stories and and paths to where they are.
- 46:38You know, I, I, I think there were a few, a few folks that
- 46:40flew in on, on their own jets, of course, you know, but, but
- 46:46super nice people, just a, a great crowd.
- 46:49But I think that's one of the best parts is just at the end of
- 46:51the day, hanging out and having that drink or over dinner or
- 46:54whatever and just swapping stories.
- 46:56It's, it's a very special, very special thing.
- 46:59So glad you guys could be a part of it for sure.
- 47:01And, and definitely hope to, to, to have you back.
- 47:04Maybe we should pivot a little bit to your business, OTS and Co
- 47:10in Berkeley, CA, because as you mentioned, you helped Dan find
- 47:13his car and I know you checked it out and all that before he
- 47:16took delivery as well. And it's been a great car for
- 47:18him. I checked out your inventory
- 47:20because you're a brokerage, right?
- 47:22But you're also kind of like a, a car matchmaker, right?
- 47:24You do a little bit of everything you say Sherpa on the
- 47:27website, which I like because I, I think that's sort of sums it
- 47:29up, right? I want to steal that from you,
- 47:32but so tell us if you would just a bit about the business and
- 47:35what you specialize in. Sure, Taz and I think
- 47:38approached. From different, where we arrived
- 47:40here from different locations, I had more history in selling
- 47:43these cars. And you know, Taz has been
- 47:45working on them since he was a child and around them his entire
- 47:50life. And so I came from the space of
- 47:53interacting with transactions and, and doing a fair bit of
- 47:56that over the decades. I guess it's been over 20 years
- 47:59now that I have been around these cars in a professional
- 48:02sense and worked all those years for other people and finally
- 48:07decided it was time to, to do something of my own and work for
- 48:11myself. I think a lot of that's a
- 48:12similar story among anyone who's really, I think substantial in
- 48:16this, this business now is that they, you know, work for other
- 48:19people. Eventually they figure out what
- 48:21to do and what not to do from other people and set out on
- 48:25their own if they, you know, have the network and the desire
- 48:29and the interest and the enthusiasm to do all that.
- 48:32So that we started the business together because we wanted to
- 48:37work for ourselves and participate in transacting these
- 48:39cars and have the networks to do so.
- 48:41You know, Taz obviously knows all the big Ferrari guys and
- 48:44also from the racing world, lots of you know, useful racing
- 48:48contacts as well. And you know, I'm I've have
- 48:52dealt with almost everything that is, you know, in terms of
- 48:56European sports cars and some non sporting cars too, because
- 49:00I've worked for dealers that transacted those types of cars.
- 49:03So we decided to, to set out on our own and, and sort of
- 49:10transact cars in a way that is based on knowledge and
- 49:14experience and expertise and passion.
- 49:16You know, a lot of people are about the, the transaction or
- 49:20some of they like the action or the chase.
- 49:22You know, the deal making is almost incidental.
- 49:25For me at least, it's really the chance to interact with these
- 49:28cars and the people who own them and sort of share my enthusiasm
- 49:32and, and knowledge. So we try to know what we're
- 49:34talking about in depth as much as we can.
- 49:37And then when we find people who know more than us and we learn
- 49:39as much as we can from them. But it's all about it's for me,
- 49:42it's, it's I really like learning about these cars.
- 49:44And it's almost like an excuse to turn all that nerdy
- 49:47enthusiasm that I had about learning as much as I could
- 49:49about these cars into some kind of sort of way that allows me to
- 49:54eat. Yeah.
- 49:57Yeah, yeah. Well, so a few people, you know,
- 50:00get to do what they're passionate about, right.
- 50:02I mean, there are a lot of people that are just wasting
- 50:03away in offices, you know, as we speak and you know, so I'd love
- 50:07that you 2 have followed your passion.
- 50:08Yeah. I mean, I think we'll kind.
- 50:10Of do anything that's interesting effectively, but
- 50:12obviously Ferrari is we're strong at because of Tazza's
- 50:16network. But yeah, yeah, Curry market's
- 50:18not in the best health right now, so we're happy to do other
- 50:21stuff too. But you know, OK, I would say I
- 50:23don't know what some of our highlights launch of Stratos was
- 50:26a big one for me at that. And I.
- 50:29Was really glad Taz got to drive one because it's one of the most
- 50:33exciting cars I've ever driven and the motor and transaxle are
- 50:36very familiar to Taz 'cause he's worked on so many 246's and so
- 50:40that has certainly been one of the major highlights for me of
- 50:43the cars we've done. We've done an F40, which is
- 50:46obviously really exciting. Plenty of Rs, Porsche's in 73
- 50:49and 964 and 993 and you know, some more modern stuff too.
- 50:54Yeah, it's been, it's been fun for me because.
- 50:56It's been an outlet to be able to try some some pretty
- 51:02spectacular different cars that aren't Ferraris.
- 51:05One of the one of the cars that I was extremely impressed by was
- 51:10we had a track day and Aquera GT came out.
- 51:14There's an F40 there, there's an F50 there and there's Aquera GT.
- 51:18And I'd experienced the F40 and F50 before, but the career GT
- 51:21was a new experience and I was able to spend 5 laps or so
- 51:26really tracking the career GT and it was such an unbelievably
- 51:31epic car. It it felt like a real race car
- 51:35on track, except it was, you know, had a nice steering wheel
- 51:38and I don't know if there were a cup holder or not, but there was
- 51:40leather around and it was such a fantastic thing.
- 51:44I mean, I think it would be my only car solution, and coming
- 51:48from a Ferrari background that seems like something that I
- 51:51shouldn't. Say.
- 51:53But it was, you know, probably, it's probably up there in one of
- 51:55my top five cars just for how spectacular it was on on the
- 51:58racetrack. Yeah, that's so.
- 52:01I got to drive one for my my first one a couple months ago.
- 52:05Thanks, Brian Rudin, who was on the on the grand as well.
- 52:08And of course, all I could think about was that clutch, right?
- 52:11And you know, you go over and over in your head, you know, you
- 52:14know, just let the clutch out, no gas and all that.
- 52:16And then you immediately forget about it at the first stop play,
- 52:18right, Because I wasn't on the track.
- 52:20I was just on the road. But I, you know, I had really
- 52:23the same experience in that. I just thought it was epic.
- 52:25I mean, it's it's been a dream car, poster car for me since it
- 52:28was new, way out of my reach. But I was glad I got to
- 52:31experience one because they truly are special.
- 52:33And I think that's the story, right?
- 52:35It was supposed to be a race car and then they decided to, you
- 52:37know, for whatever reason to to sell it as a Street car.
- 52:40It didn't qualify. The the series was cancelled or
- 52:42something. I don't remember.
- 52:45Yeah, the engine certainly was intended.
- 52:47To for to go racing and then they sort of picked up the
- 52:50pieces not unlike the the MVM one.
- 52:54Yeah, Right on. This is a new story.
- 52:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 52:57We like the we like the stories of the cars.
- 53:00And obviously the experience is a really important part of the
- 53:03appeal also. But it's always nice to get to
- 53:06meet these cars that were heroes.
- 53:08Not always nice. That's not true.
- 53:09Sometimes roundly disappointing. Meet a car that was hero car and
- 53:15then to learn, you know, but in some sense it's a relief because
- 53:18you can cross it off your list of things that you'll never be
- 53:21able to afford but thought you wanted and now you don't.
- 53:24So that's cool. So you can't leave us hanging.
- 53:26You got to. You got to tell us what at least
- 53:27one of those cars was. For me, yeah.
- 53:33So Taz, I guess you should be thinking about someone of the
- 53:35most disappointing cars you've ever driven.
- 53:37I think a lot of disappointment has to do with the delta between
- 53:40expectation and reality. And I guess if I had to put
- 53:43something on that list, it would be Porsche 959.
- 53:47Really. Yeah, it.
- 53:50The, the, the, and when you think about it like if you do a
- 53:53little bit of analysis on it, it makes sense.
- 53:55But it's, it's turbocharged and it's 4 wheel drive and it's very
- 53:59high tech and it's sort of, it's very interesting to drive that
- 54:01car back-to-back with say an F40 because the F40 is such this
- 54:05sort of raw elemental pared down thing.
- 54:07There's no carpets and the dashboard looks like it's
- 54:09basically made out of Velcro. I mean, I think it's probably
- 54:12Perlon or something like that. It's just this very elemental
- 54:15pared down car that is rear wheel drive with no, you know,
- 54:19ABS or power steering or any of that junk.
- 54:22It's just like car, you know, and, and you and, and motor.
- 54:27And the 9:59 is exactly the opposite approach.
- 54:29You know, it's really refined and there's leather everywhere
- 54:31and it's incredibly high tech and sophisticated and it's meant
- 54:34to make it incredibly easy and sort of effortless to go fast.
- 54:39And it does exactly that, which, you know, makes it maybe good
- 54:42for commuting, but as a tool for entertainment, it's actually
- 54:45kind of lacking. And I should have known that.
- 54:48You know, you look at the numbers and you realize, wow,
- 54:50that's a very high performance car.
- 54:51It's got to be exciting. And then you drive it, you know,
- 54:53like it's so easy and effortless to go this fast that you're kind
- 54:57of like it's, it's, it's a little almost like driving a,
- 55:01you know, like driving a modern Porsche turbo.
- 55:02I would say the exact same thing about which formula would be
- 55:05very similar twin turbocharged, you know, well, now they're not
- 55:08even manual anymore and four wheel drive.
- 55:11And it's just really, really good at going fast.
- 55:14But just because it's good at going fast, I mean, it's fun or
- 55:16interesting or entertaining. And so I, you know, have these
- 55:19high expectations as this exotic that's so sophisticated and
- 55:23forbidden fruit and all that stuff.
- 55:25And you know, 11 days out of 10, I will choose an F40 over a
- 55:29nine. I would choose an I would choose
- 55:31a a Carrera 2 with like $12,000 of modification.
- 55:37Yeah, right. So this is obviously this is me.
- 55:41Carmudgeoning but yeah probably about something but that was
- 55:46probably one of the more disappointing hero cars which
- 55:48was fine I so now I don't need to own one the F40 the.
- 55:52F40 though, really is one of the greats, isn't it?
- 55:56Yeah. That's that's the one.
- 55:58That's the one. Are you guys into any new stuff
- 56:01like you know Porsche GT like F40 is pretty?
- 56:04Contemporary, isn't it? Yeah, I guess in the scheme.
- 56:07Of things you know, compared to some of the cars I want to build
- 56:101 pretty motors, yes. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:14New cars Contemporary. Live No, you quite like the I
- 56:18mean, there's some. Things that you do like you were
- 56:22surprised by the Scuderia that had the manual swap.
- 56:27We had 360 Town St., LA. Yeah, but this is still a A20
- 56:31plus year old car. Sure, sure.
- 56:33I mean, yeah, you still plug your computer into it.
- 56:37I think like that justifies the newness, that's the match and it
- 56:41has functioning. Air conditioning and there's a
- 56:43button on the the key that unlocks the.
- 56:45Door. Also, so it's pretty modern I I
- 56:49personally there's. There's certainly new Porsches
- 56:52and Ferraris. I like.
- 56:53I mean, I think a 296 is such a spectacular car.
- 56:56Driven one of those around Buttonwillow and I thought that
- 57:00that car was absolutely stellar. A992GT3 car feels like a race
- 57:08car on street tires even it still just brakes.
- 57:10Axe responds like a race car on track.
- 57:13I don't have a lot of St. Time in those cars so I can't
- 57:15really speak to their like everyday life on a racetrack
- 57:19they're. Really spectacular.
- 57:20And certainly that's half the battle with me sometimes.
- 57:25Yeah, the problem with those. Cars on the street is that.
- 57:27They are so, so capable that you will never be able to explore
- 57:31that capability on the street. And to me, that is such a
- 57:35disappointment because I really like exploring the envelope and
- 57:39those cars. The envelope is so large that
- 57:42you never get the chance to to visit the car's capability
- 57:45unless you're on track. And for me, that will always
- 57:47make our Yeah, it will always make it a a bang and not a
- 57:51merry. And that's why I love old cars.
- 57:56Is that our show title? I'm just.
- 57:57Saying, yeah, no, that's a good answer.
- 58:01That's a good. I can't even blame it on
- 58:03drinking anything I'm drinking. Water.
- 58:05What do you guys daily drive? I'm just curious.
- 58:06Is it something older or it's just something utilitarian?
- 58:09Or go ahead, Daz. I have a BMW1. 28 right on that.
- 58:14I like yeah, it's a happy little car.
- 58:17And then I have a 250, a Ford F-250 Transit van.
- 58:21Oh sure, it makes sense. Also double S.
- 58:23The daily sometimes. OK.
- 58:25Yeah, that's a really. Unique 2 car solution.
- 58:27I love it. Yeah.
- 58:28Yeah. I mean, you can live.
- 58:29In the you. Can live in the van, you can fit
- 58:31a go Kart in the back of it. It's very happy.
- 58:34I was going to say you could. Almost you could.
- 58:36Sort of jokingly say you could fit the BMW in the back of the
- 58:39van, which is, yeah, you almost could.
- 58:41Yeah, yeah. And what about you, Derek?
- 58:45Well. So that's supposed to be an easy
- 58:50question, right? It's clearly not in the car
- 58:52world, I think. I think just you're.
- 58:54You're most commonly on bike because you're coming across the
- 58:58branch. Oh, right on.
- 58:59OK. I have a a pretty gnarly.
- 59:01Commute in terms of traffic, it's 15 miles if that, but it's
- 59:07a lot of traffic if you do it wrong.
- 59:08It could be an hour if you do in a car, if you do it at the wrong
- 59:11time. So I ride Ducatis and then for
- 59:16cars I don't know, I I have a 264,000 mile 1995 Mercedes E320
- 59:23station wagon, which is kind of functioning as a daily.
- 59:27And then I have a a 9/11 SC that's kind of hot bottoms that
- 59:30is also acting kind of as a semi daily when I'm not on the bike.
- 59:35I don't know, all cars kind of cycle through daily use.
- 59:37That's yeah. I mean, as they should, right?
- 59:40Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the. 1-2 fours, I just think those are
- 59:43peak Mercedes. I mean, those are the cars that
- 59:45don't get me started. I will go on.
- 59:47For hours I've had. You know a.
- 59:50Dozen of them, at least. They're so good.
- 59:52You know, I, I. Drove one recently for the first
- 59:54time in years, and I was reminded why they're so good.
- 59:56I mean, they're, yeah, it's all the stuff built like a bank
- 59:58vault and all that, but glass everywhere, right?
- 1:00:01The ride is incredible, The power is good, They're torquey,
- 1:00:04right? For what they are, they're just
- 1:00:06fantastic, fantastic cars. I mean, they're just in my eyes.
- 1:00:10Peak, peak Mercedes, right. I mean, I wasn't around for the
- 1:00:12gold wings and you know, all the old stuff, I mean, and the stuff
- 1:00:16that I grew up with, I mean they're just great.
- 1:00:17They've held up so well yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:00:21I. When we started, we started this
- 1:00:23business not even two years ago with a $10,000 loan.
- 1:00:26I mean, we were very poorly capitalized at the beginning and
- 1:00:30we were, you know, agreed not to take any pay for the first year
- 1:00:32so that we could fix that problem.
- 1:00:34And when we needed a company car, you know, the, the correct
- 1:00:37solution for this is probably to buy an F-350 diesel or
- 1:00:39something. Sure, sure.
- 1:00:41Transport parts and have a tow tow vehicle and all that stuff.
- 1:00:44I found on Craigslist a $6000 Mercedes station wagon that, you
- 1:00:48know, we put the livery on it. That looks like the rescue
- 1:00:52service when you call for roadside assistance.
- 1:00:54I've seen that. I didn't know that was.
- 1:00:56Yours. That's fantastic.
- 1:00:57So that was. Our solution for 6000, so cool
- 1:01:00for a company car. So I made-up everybody in the
- 1:01:04company now has to have lots of 124 time because of me.
- 1:01:08Nice, nice. That's really funny.
- 1:01:10They're so good. Well, so you.
- 1:01:11Mentioned we were talking before we started recording and you
- 1:01:14guys have a company rally coming up.
- 1:01:16Can you talk about that? I think it's a pretty fun story,
- 1:01:21Yeah, so. I plan for my friends just like
- 1:01:25a small rally of 10 cars and then you get to go on great
- 1:01:27roads and you don't have to worry about a hotel that can
- 1:01:29accommodate 100 people or actually it's I guess small 200
- 1:01:33people, 100 cars. And so I California has these
- 1:01:36incredible tight back roads that the Calmile uses sometimes, but
- 1:01:40you know, sometimes they can't get into the places that we get
- 1:01:42into with our small group wise. So I do this with my friends all
- 1:01:45the time and the company, you know, as a as a group of us,
- 1:01:48we've never done one of these. And I said, well, we have to do
- 1:01:50all this. Every everyone has to come and
- 1:01:51needs to be team building. It'll be a business expense and
- 1:01:54everyone has to go out through a rally.
- 1:01:56And then somehow I was this Utah as that that introduced the the
- 1:02:01challenge aspect to it. Yeah, I mean I.
- 1:02:04Think like my. Inner competitive spirit of
- 1:02:08making everything like a little bit mini competition right?
- 1:02:12I think they need to be like a good rule set.
- 1:02:15So I, I thought that all cars should be no more than $2000
- 1:02:21with with the exception of like safety and or OEM swappable
- 1:02:26parts to get the thing running if you need to do so within
- 1:02:30reason. So I mean, obviously you can't
- 1:02:33buy something modern that needs, you know, $25,000 worth of motor
- 1:02:38swap and stuff like that, but. If you find a 2. $1000 car that
- 1:02:40you can get stuff at O'reilly's or so on and so forth and make
- 1:02:45it a runner. That should be certainly part of
- 1:02:48it. And you were driving.
- 1:02:50It before we got on the air and I was, yeah, I was late to.
- 1:02:55Get on the air because I was trying to I.
- 1:02:59So I got this car and Derek says that he knows what it is, but I,
- 1:03:05he doesn't really know what it is.
- 1:03:08It could be a, he knows that it has a certain type of motor
- 1:03:13because that was discovered, but it could be like a Nash
- 1:03:17Metropolitan. You don't know what it is.
- 1:03:19That would be something. Right, I was a bit of watch this
- 1:03:22space next week in. The event, actually, yeah.
- 1:03:27But so. I found my car on Facebook
- 1:03:30marketplace. I spend most of my nights doing
- 1:03:33this not to have the satisfaction of my fiance, but I
- 1:03:39have a huge saved library of $2000 ship boxes and this one
- 1:03:46supposedly needed a clutch slave.
- 1:03:49So it's like great. So I went out, looked at it.
- 1:03:52The clutch was already off of it.
- 1:03:53They said that they had the thing running a couple years
- 1:03:55ago. I thought great, you know, I'll,
- 1:03:57I'll bring this home trailer it over and then put it up.
- 1:04:00I got under it. I pushed the release fork in and
- 1:04:04there was certainly nothing there.
- 1:04:05Just went to its extremity, which meant that there was
- 1:04:07either no release bearing and or clutch in the thing.
- 1:04:12So I couldn't bring it to the shop because they would see it.
- 1:04:15So I've done all this in my garage, which I'm still doing.
- 1:04:19And so a guy that's staying with me helped me pull the motor out
- 1:04:25in the garage. And then we realized that there
- 1:04:27was no second gear. So I found two free gearboxes
- 1:04:30and made like 1 gearbox out of three and it's back in the car.
- 1:04:33And it finally went its first mile maybe in 15 or 20 years
- 1:04:38today to the gas station where I got momentarily stuck and then
- 1:04:42late to be on here. So it runs on gas.
- 1:04:45Yeah, it's OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:47So what we know is it's a British 1275 motor.
- 1:04:52OK, motor out. I had it.
- 1:04:53OK, OK. Interesting.
- 1:04:55We started a dry. We started a dry.
- 1:04:57Ice Business. And I brought the motor over to
- 1:05:00get dry iced because I'm doing more work than this car probably
- 1:05:03needs or deserves but I've been excited about.
- 1:05:05It and Derek. Snuck in on the motor while I
- 1:05:08was getting to OK OK all. Right.
- 1:05:11Well, we will check back. Yeah, are is.
- 1:05:14Everyone else's chariot Also a secret.
- 1:05:17Like, are you all showing up? And like, it's a surprise for
- 1:05:20everyone. I I know what?
- 1:05:23Derek has, but I have never seen it.
- 1:05:26OK. So we're all.
- 1:05:28Our third. Business partner has not yet
- 1:05:31bought a car, so that's a secret.
- 1:05:33Is that right? That's a.
- 1:05:34Secret to literally everyone. Yes, it's a secret from himself.
- 1:05:38As well, Right? Well, especially our intern.
- 1:05:40Turned employee who's also coming on the rally I learned
- 1:05:45has a secret for us that he's got yet another car that we
- 1:05:47don't know about. So there's still some secrecy.
- 1:05:50Yeah. Working in the wrong place,
- 1:05:52yeah. He was going to bring some
- 1:05:53Miata, but he. Thought that was inappropriate
- 1:05:55for whatever not the answer. Something, yet again, fantastic.
- 1:06:00Can we follow? These adventures on Instagram or
- 1:06:03what? I'll probably post it, yeah.
- 1:06:06Yeah, no, I will definitely post it.
- 1:06:08We'll, we'll, I suppose, Cher, mine is not a secret really,
- 1:06:12because I've, I've had it already, which is cheating.
- 1:06:14But it's a $1300 salvage title Mercedes C280 that we turned
- 1:06:20into a rally car. OK.
- 1:06:22And so it's lifted. You can't tell what colour it is
- 1:06:25because it's got so much card on it, which is actually the was
- 1:06:29the colour of mud before we put mud on it anyway, was the 70s
- 1:06:33right? Or No2.
- 1:06:35You said C280. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's a late
- 1:06:3890s. Late 90s, OK, well, that's even.
- 1:06:40More interesting. Wow, wow.
- 1:06:42I would argue it's less interesting, but.
- 1:06:44The rally car and the fact that it's lifted and got well, yeah,
- 1:06:47I've never seen one. Yeah, yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:06:51Well, we're at an hour. I think that's probably a show.
- 1:06:53But Speaking of Instagram and social media, where do we find
- 1:06:57you guys? Where do we find your shop?
- 1:06:58Yep. So our shop.
- 1:07:00Is OTS and Co and that is, you know, Otis and Tam Scott OTS.
- 1:07:07So that's pretty polished and then our personal Instagram mine
- 1:07:12is D Tam Scott and Taz. You are T Otis racing.
- 1:07:16That's it. Right on right.
- 1:07:18On perfectly. You can follow our.
- 1:07:20Adventure misadventures on there.
- 1:07:22Yeah, you're both good. Followers and really appreciate
- 1:07:25having you guys on because I know how busy you are and I just
- 1:07:28got back from the grand. You got a million things going
- 1:07:30on and this was very short notice, but really just wanted
- 1:07:33to share, you know, the spirit of the grand with the people
- 1:07:35listening and and it's a very special thing to me and it
- 1:07:39sounds like it was a special thing to both of you as well.
- 1:07:41And and we hope to to have you back soon.
- 1:07:44Love to have you back on the show sometime too.
- 1:07:47Thank you for that. It was a.
- 1:07:47Pleasure to be here and the the grand was pretty transcendent.
- 1:07:51I mean, I'm hooked. I will continue to go back as
- 1:07:53long as I have a vehicle and I'm allowed.
- 1:07:55Awesome. Yeah, thank you.
- 1:07:58Thank you. I feel the same exact.
- 1:07:59Way well, Tatya Otis. And and Derek Tam Scott, thank
- 1:08:03you so much for being on that car show have connected us and
- 1:08:07remember, always be driving.
