- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode seventy of Cards and Categories.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I am Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as always by
- 0:24Speaker 1: my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also from Rasball.
- 0:28Speaker 2: How's your head feeling?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Are you absorbing this bounty of transactions that we have
- 0:33Speaker 1: to talk about tonight?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Are you hanging in there?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I am so excited. This is like the most exciting
- 0:38Speaker 3: time of the year. That's not during the season.
- 0:41Speaker 4: It's just activity, activity, activity, activity, So I am ready
- 0:44Speaker 4: to go.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it has been just the hot stove
- 0:49Speaker 1: is beyond hot right now. And I made the mistake
- 0:54Speaker 1: of pre writing a lot of our rundown and everything
- 0:57Speaker 1: just yesterday. We're talking actually on Wednesday, December eleventh, and
- 1:02Speaker 1: so when I went through and did that yesterday, I
- 1:05Speaker 1: knew I was cursing us. We do have the podcast cursed,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and usually it results in injuries and you know, anything
- 1:12Speaker 1: that will really unwind things for us. So this will
- 1:18Speaker 1: really extend the length of the pod, but we're gonna
- 1:20Speaker 1: try to breeze through everything in terms of what we're
- 1:23Speaker 1: gonna do for the main portion of the pod. The
- 1:26Speaker 1: back end of the pod, We've got some great cards
- 1:29Speaker 1: talk going through the awards winners from twenty twenty four
- 1:32Speaker 1: on both the AL and nlside to add to our
- 1:35Speaker 1: PC as well as adding in some PC cards for
- 1:40Speaker 1: our newly elected Hall of Famers Dave Parker and Dick Allen.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So that came through this week, which is great to
- 1:46Speaker 1: see coming from that extra committee that was created by
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame to get Allen and Parker both
- 1:53Speaker 1: into the Hall of Fame where they've deserved to be
- 1:55Speaker 1: for a long time. So we thought we'd celebrate by
- 1:58Speaker 1: putting in some cards to our personal collection, our long
- 2:01Speaker 1: list that we've got going at this point. And you
- 2:04Speaker 1: know what, we don't have enough Aaron Judge cards in there,
- 2:06Speaker 1: so I figured we could get some more.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So, you know, we have to squeeze some more in.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Like I said, the Winter Meetings have yielded a lot
- 2:13Speaker 1: of transactions for us, so I think we're just gonna
- 2:16Speaker 1: hit the ground run in here, get writ into news
- 2:18Speaker 1: and notes, try to rattle off as many of these
- 2:21Speaker 1: as we can that are relevant to our fantasy game.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Some we're gonna actually skip, like a handful of signings,
- 2:27Speaker 1: which usually doesn't happen. Considering we are the infamous podcast
- 2:31Speaker 1: that talked about Socrates Brito last week, so no Socrates
- 2:35Speaker 1: Brito talk this week. He has not signed, But we
- 2:38Speaker 1: did get Juan Soto finally signing and landing on the
- 2:41Speaker 1: other side of New York with the Mets with a
- 2:44Speaker 1: monstrous fifteen years, seven hundred and sixty five million dollar
- 2:48Speaker 1: deal no deferrals, which is really absurd for that size
- 2:53Speaker 1: of a of a contract, given that the seven hundred
- 2:56Speaker 1: million dollars of Tani signed for last year is heavily
- 3:00Speaker 1: on top of that, it does feel like we keep
- 3:02Speaker 1: finding out like new things about this contract like every day,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Like John Hayman is just kind of like feeding us
- 3:09Speaker 1: little crumbs. So the latest news that we've been getting
- 3:13Speaker 1: is about how the Yankees lost out because they weren't
- 3:16Speaker 1: offering a box to Juan Soto. We can get in
- 3:18Speaker 1: a little bit of that with the Yankee side of
- 3:20Speaker 1: this transaction. But this also this contract also has like
- 3:24Speaker 1: a triggering clause where after five years, Juan Soto does
- 3:28Speaker 1: have a opt out here, but the Mets can nullify
- 3:32Speaker 1: that opt out by.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Guaranteeing him.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Four million extra dollars over the last ten years of
- 3:38Speaker 1: the contract. So in all essence, because you have to
- 3:41Speaker 1: think that they're gonna lock that in when Wan Soto's
- 3:45Speaker 1: thirty one.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He's only twenty six at this point.
- 3:47Speaker 1: This is gonna be a eight hundred plus million dollar contract. Obviously,
- 3:52Speaker 1: Wan Soto is a generational hitter on the level of
- 3:54Speaker 1: like Ted Williams, so it's not gonna change his fantasy
- 3:58Speaker 1: stock overall. But what do you think of him going
- 4:00Speaker 1: to the New York Mets? Any fallout for Juan Soto
- 4:04Speaker 1: directly or other Mets players you think? And then what
- 4:08Speaker 1: does this mean for the Yankees? And I'm especially thinking
- 4:10Speaker 1: about like Aaron Judge's value going forward with not having
- 4:14Speaker 1: that Juan Soto lineup protection. So what do you think
- 4:16Speaker 1: about Wan Soto go into Queen's Yeah, I mean, I
- 4:21Speaker 1: think there's no question that Steve Cohen was.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Not going to be outbid.
- 4:25Speaker 3: It's funny to think it may have come down to
- 4:27Speaker 3: box seats, but that's that's a whole discussion for another day.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I think that this is, you know, great news for
- 4:35Speaker 3: a few players specifically, and the biggest one to me
- 4:38Speaker 3: is Francisco Indoor. At this point, he is going to
- 4:43Speaker 3: be running as far as first you know, the hit
- 4:48Speaker 3: and lead off in you know Russ resource Innesota as
- 4:50Speaker 3: number two hitter, whether he's two three, you know what
- 4:53Speaker 3: we'll see. But that lineup protection that gives Lindor is
- 4:57Speaker 3: just fantastic, and so he's had a resurgence, it seems
- 5:03Speaker 3: like the last few years, and I think that just continues.
- 5:06Speaker 3: On the other side of things, I think that this
- 5:07Speaker 3: hurts Aaron Judge. You know, you don't have that same protection.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Guys are gonna pitch around you a little bit more.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You're gonna have to press a little bit more. And
- 5:15Speaker 3: so I think it'd be a little bit of a
- 5:16Speaker 3: downgrade for Judge. And I've never been terribly high on
- 5:19Speaker 3: judges to the injury risk which he's seemed to try
- 5:22Speaker 3: to shed the last few years. But you know, if
- 5:25Speaker 3: I've got down and up arrows up for Lindor, down
- 5:29Speaker 3: for Judge Soda, I mean, park factor is pretty gosh
- 5:32Speaker 3: turned similar. He's gonna do the same thing he did
- 5:37Speaker 3: in Queens as he did in the Bronx.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Not a big big change there.
- 5:41Speaker 3: The lineup is probably a little weaker in Queen's at
- 5:45Speaker 3: this point, but not not substantially enough that I'm gonna
- 5:47Speaker 3: downgrade him. Besides, maybe five or ten RBI over the
- 5:50Speaker 3: course of the season, and for a guy like one
- 5:53Speaker 3: Soda and what he.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Delivers, he's still he's still an easy.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Top ten pick, if not a top five pick going
- 5:59Speaker 3: into into next year. So only good news for for
- 6:02Speaker 3: One Sodo. And you know, I think he's gonna Oddly,
- 6:07Speaker 3: I feel like he's gonna pay for this contract. Like
- 6:09Speaker 3: I don't see a problem with him paying for this contract.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I've seen a lot of folks arguing that there was
- 6:13Speaker 3: a huge overpay. I think the Otani deal has really
- 6:16Speaker 3: told us that teams are not looking at these things
- 6:19Speaker 3: as just the performance on the field. They're looking at
- 6:22Speaker 3: the intangibles off the field as well, the marketing opportunities,
- 6:26Speaker 3: the merchandise sales, things like that. And that's what's gonna
- 6:29Speaker 3: pay for this is Soto's talent. Don't get me wrong,
- 6:32Speaker 3: it's right there too. But there's more to this than
- 6:36Speaker 3: just the on the field performance. And Soto seems to
- 6:41Speaker 3: thrive in the limelight of New York and he's gonna
- 6:44Speaker 3: be there for a while. So very excited about this,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and I don't think there there probably wasn't much of
- 6:50Speaker 3: a better landing spot for for Soda from a fantasy perspective.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and what about do you think the Yankee side
- 6:55Speaker 1: and Aaron Judge there, Because I do think that this
- 6:59Speaker 1: is going to have a decent sized impact on Aaron Judge,
- 7:02Speaker 1: just given that having Soto's protection in front of him,
- 7:06Speaker 1: having Soto on base, and given what is available out
- 7:11Speaker 1: in the market for the Yankees, there's nothing that's going
- 7:13Speaker 1: to come close to replacing that.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So I do worry about the number of hit able.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Pitches that Judge might be seeing in twenty twenty five
- 7:22Speaker 1: Or is that just me playing for d chs with
- 7:25Speaker 1: myself for no reason?
- 7:27Speaker 4: No, I think you're right.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Like if I looked at roster resources, I don't know
- 7:30Speaker 3: if I believe them at times with their line of projections.
- 7:32Speaker 4: But let's let's just go with it.
- 7:34Speaker 3: You got Aaron Judge hitting third in the Yankees lineup
- 7:36Speaker 3: protected by Austin Wells, And don't get me wrong, I
- 7:40Speaker 3: like Austin Wells as much as the next guy. Very
- 7:42Speaker 3: liberal use of protected by, Yes, but that's that's really
- 7:47Speaker 3: not ideal. But it makes sense because they have very
- 7:50Speaker 3: limited left handed bats in that lineup unless Domingos really
- 7:55Speaker 3: turns things on as a switch hitter and moves up
- 7:57Speaker 3: that lineup to rely split Judge and Stayton because you
- 8:01Speaker 3: don't really want to have Judge and Staying back to
- 8:04Speaker 3: back in that lineup. Or you can move jas Chisholm
- 8:06Speaker 3: down something like that to have him try to provide
- 8:08Speaker 3: the protection. But even that, with Chisholm's profile, you want
- 8:11Speaker 3: to hold him at the top the lineup of Volpi there.
- 8:14Speaker 4: To get on base.
- 8:15Speaker 3: So I do think this hurts Judge a pretty good
- 8:18Speaker 3: amount because he people are gonna be pitching around him, no.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Question about it.
- 8:23Speaker 3: So you got to knock Judge down, you know, five
- 8:26Speaker 3: ten rungs on the on the draft board, just not
- 8:30Speaker 3: having that protection, especially if they're Hu's Austin Austin Wells
- 8:33Speaker 3: as that maybe Austin Wells Arrow might go up a
- 8:36Speaker 3: little bit here if he gets to hit between her
- 8:38Speaker 3: and Judge and John Carlos Stanton. But this isn't a
- 8:41Speaker 3: segment about Austin Wells.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and so we're looking at NFBC draft data for
- 8:47Speaker 1: all drafts. So I mean, I think this isn't gonna
- 8:50Speaker 1: skew it too much for the talk that we're talking
- 8:52Speaker 1: that I'm going to bring up here. But looking at
- 8:54Speaker 1: all drafts over the last month from November eleventh through tonight.
- 8:59Speaker 1: The first two picks r O Tani Wit they kind
- 9:01Speaker 1: of flopped their both at one point five. Third is
- 9:05Speaker 1: Aaron Judge, which I'm sure you already is probably already
- 9:08Speaker 1: too rich for your blood, right, Oh yeah, okay, so
- 9:12Speaker 1: you probably already are had Ellie ahead of Aaron Judge.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I guess I'm just trying to get sense here of
- 9:17Speaker 1: how far you're gonna slip Judge down the first round order.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez is fifth. You're gonna take Judge over Jose Ramirez?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I maybe, maybe, maybe I'm crazy here,
- 9:30Speaker 3: but I I do still think Judge has an injury
- 9:33Speaker 3: risks that we're not accounting for, especially if he does
- 9:35Speaker 3: move back to right field, because honestly, I don't know
- 9:37Speaker 3: that he can navigate that right field right field without
- 9:41Speaker 3: running into the wall. Night times before, I have him
- 9:45Speaker 3: almost down at nine, like behind So and Kyle Tucker,
- 9:51Speaker 3: like I I behind for Anto Junr. I'd probably put
- 9:55Speaker 3: him in front of Tatis there, so right between Tucker
- 9:57Speaker 3: and Tatise, and you know, then you start getting to
- 9:59Speaker 3: the ski means the bets, the Carrols Julio's like, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 3: Judge is clearly above those guys. But I'm taking the
- 10:06Speaker 3: upside of Ellie, the reliability of Ramirez.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Gunner.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I love Gunner, but I might even knock him down
- 10:14Speaker 3: a little bit because the the lack of uh this,
- 10:17Speaker 3: you know, same speed that you get some some other
- 10:19Speaker 3: guys like at Tucker there. So if you're putting him,
- 10:23Speaker 3: you know, eight right around that the same as Gunner,
- 10:27Speaker 3: I'm I'm probably happy.
- 10:28Speaker 2: With that, Okay, got it? Yeah, I think that's totally fair.
- 10:32Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Next transaction we have is something that just broke a
- 10:36Speaker 1: few hours ago, while these Winter meetings have been going
- 10:39Speaker 1: on and people have been wheeling and dealing down in Dallas.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We have Garrett Crochet.
- 10:44Speaker 1: The announcement has been that he's being traded to Boston
- 10:47Speaker 1: for a package that includes Kyle Teeal, Braden Montgomery and
- 10:53Speaker 1: outfielder infielder Chase Meredith and right hander Wilkodman Gonzalez. Obviously,
- 11:00Speaker 1: Garrett Crochet is coming off of a breakout season in
- 11:03Speaker 1: his first year as a starting pitcher. Really was amazing
- 11:08Speaker 1: over a rate basis, over like a total volume, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 1: struggles a little bit down the stretch, just because the
- 11:15Speaker 1: White Socks are starting to taper off his innings, wanted
- 11:18Speaker 1: to keep him healthy for this impending trade. Obviously, I
- 11:21Speaker 1: guess we'll start with the Crochet side and then we'll
- 11:23Speaker 1: come back and talk about the return for the White Sox.
- 11:26Speaker 1: But what do you think Crochet can do with just
- 11:30Speaker 1: a better organization over in Boston.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's it's one of those.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I think it's a relatively even trade off. The park
- 11:39Speaker 3: definitely hurts Crochet here moving to Boston over the last
- 11:42Speaker 3: three years, it's like the number two it was hit
- 11:45Speaker 3: Her Friendly park, whereas you know there if the White
- 11:48Speaker 3: Socks are guaranteed, rate was number twenty. Last year it
- 11:51Speaker 3: was a little bit closer, but it's still, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 3: maybe ten spots between the two parks, and so I
- 11:56Speaker 3: think that hurts Crochet. But on the flip side, like
- 11:59Speaker 3: he has run support, which typically helps you win ball games,
- 12:05Speaker 3: and I think that he also has an organization that's
- 12:08Speaker 3: actually like dedicated to him pitching and pitching well, not
- 12:11Speaker 3: that the White Sox weren't, but the White Sox's main
- 12:14Speaker 3: purpose with Garrochet was to maximize his trade value, and
- 12:19Speaker 3: the Red Sox goal is to win baseball games, and
- 12:22Speaker 3: those are totally different approaches to things.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And Crochet might have pitch.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Four innings for the White Sox and struck out five
- 12:30Speaker 3: guys and been pulled out of the game because he
- 12:33Speaker 3: could show what he could do and then he's then
- 12:36Speaker 3: he's yanked, and I get pitch limits and things like that,
- 12:40Speaker 3: but Crochet seemed like he's holding up, so I think,
- 12:43Speaker 3: you know, he's his leash extends quite a bit for
- 12:46Speaker 3: the Red Sox, so overall, I like this, not for him,
- 12:50Speaker 3: but I kind of think I probably would have liked
- 12:51Speaker 3: it regardless of where he went because the kid gloves
- 12:55Speaker 3: would come off. So I think it's a slight up
- 12:59Speaker 3: arrow for Kroschet just getting out of out of Chicago.
- 13:03Speaker 3: But this is one of the probably a few ballparks
- 13:06Speaker 3: that wasn't as exciting to see him him go to.
- 13:09Speaker 3: You know, if you would have, you know, ended up
- 13:12Speaker 3: in like San fran or something like that, I'd have
- 13:14Speaker 3: been like through the you know, through the roof with
- 13:16Speaker 3: this move. Still really like Crochet, but he does have
- 13:20Speaker 3: a bit of a tough hills of sled with with
- 13:23Speaker 3: that ballpark is tan or how and a few other
- 13:26Speaker 3: guys could tell you.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And we talked about this a little bit last
- 13:30Speaker 1: week in terms of the Cubs signing all those left
- 13:33Speaker 1: handed pictures that Boston. It's the flip where you want
- 13:36Speaker 1: right handers in Boston. So I'm a little bit worried
- 13:39Speaker 1: about that. But also, Garrett Crochet is so filthy you've
- 13:42Speaker 1: got to be able to put contact on his pitches
- 13:45Speaker 1: to people to hit it over the Green Monster there
- 13:47Speaker 1: in Boston. And I mean, obviously this really the pattern
- 13:51Speaker 1: follows the Chrysale trade a lot too. I mean, the
- 13:55Speaker 1: prospect return feels not the same. But if you just
- 13:59Speaker 1: look at the difference between what Sale did in his
- 14:01Speaker 1: last season in Chicago versus what he did with Boston,
- 14:05Speaker 1: he went from nine point three K nine in Chicago
- 14:08Speaker 1: to twelve point nine in Boston. His ERA fell from
- 14:13Speaker 1: three thirty four to two ninety. And I don't think
- 14:15Speaker 1: that was a fluke. That Boston is, especially nowadays known
- 14:19Speaker 1: as a pretty good pitching factory. That you can just
- 14:21Speaker 1: see what they did last year in terms of turning
- 14:24Speaker 1: lots of players around as they moved from a fastball
- 14:29Speaker 1: heavy approach to a slider heavy approach, and I think
- 14:31Speaker 1: it caught up with them eventually because teams clued in
- 14:34Speaker 1: on it, But they were doing that with the likes
- 14:36Speaker 1: of Cutter Crawford and Brian Bao and other players who
- 14:42Speaker 1: do not have the talent of Garrett Crochet. So like,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I think this is actually a pretty significant up arrow
- 14:48Speaker 1: for Garrett Crochet, just because I think there's more juice
- 14:53Speaker 1: to squeeze out of him in terms of talent, and
- 14:55Speaker 1: Boston is one of the organizations that I think has
- 14:59Speaker 1: the where with all to do that. So I yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think Garrett Crochet is a huge pickup in especially
- 15:07Speaker 1: if you have him in any sort of like Dynasty
- 15:09Speaker 1: Keeper Leagues, Huge Boone. We'll see how much his ADP
- 15:12Speaker 1: draft drives up over the next couple of weeks in
- 15:16Speaker 1: the NFBC data, but I have to think he's going
- 15:18Speaker 1: to be pushed significantly higher. And it does feel like
- 15:22Speaker 1: the way that there's like a Yankees tax, there is
- 15:25Speaker 1: a little bit of like a Red Sox tax, and
- 15:27Speaker 1: for us in the Midwest, there's always a Cubs tax
- 15:29Speaker 1: and there's a Dodgers tax, So there is like a
- 15:31Speaker 1: little bit of like once you get on one of
- 15:33Speaker 1: these more elite teams and well known teams, more casual
- 15:37Speaker 1: players especially too, will gravitate towards them.
- 15:40Speaker 3: So yeah, Greg Crochet is already a top ten player
- 15:44Speaker 3: in ADP. They okay, and so I think we you know,
- 15:49Speaker 3: it's interesting to look at. I'm trying to make sure
- 15:52Speaker 3: we get the last month here of data.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But oh yeah, he ight right behind Burns.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Well, I'm got to take class out there. So he's
- 16:01Speaker 1: actually seventh right beyond Burns.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yeah, he's seventh from a pitching perspective. And you can
- 16:06Speaker 3: argue whether Otani should count.
- 16:09Speaker 2: That's true.
- 16:09Speaker 3: So like, yeah, there's an up arrow, but like he's
- 16:12Speaker 3: already going the third round. Yeah, and so there's not
- 16:16Speaker 3: a whole lot more room. I might put him above
- 16:19Speaker 3: Logan Gilbert at this point, maybe even Corbyn Burns and
- 16:22Speaker 3: but I'm not gonna go above Wheeler Scoble, Skiings anything
- 16:25Speaker 3: like that.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But that's still fourth off the board.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and so I think it's gonna be it's gonna
- 16:33Speaker 3: be excited. But he's already he's already got paying the
- 16:37Speaker 3: other tax is already there.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's flick to the return for the White
- 16:41Speaker 1: Sox here, because they are picking up Chase Meredith and
- 16:45Speaker 1: infielder Kyle Teal catcher, Wilkman Gonzalez a right handed pitcher,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and then the most recent first round pick for the
- 16:54Speaker 1: Red Sox hasn't played any professional ball is Brandon Montgomery, outfielder.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So I I'm just looking at the itches Boston Red
- 17:02Speaker 1: Sox top ten prospects on ras ball, and he has
- 17:07Speaker 1: Teal seventh, Meredith eighth. He does not have Gonzales ranked anywhere.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But Gonzalez clocks in is like a forty plus future
- 17:16Speaker 1: value on fangrafts. He's fourteenth in their organization from Eric Longenhangen.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Teal was third with a fifty future value. But Teal,
- 17:25Speaker 1: also coming off a little bit of a tough year,
- 17:28Speaker 1: only put up a ninety seven WRC plus in twenty
- 17:32Speaker 1: eight games at Triple A after really lighting up Double A.
- 17:36Speaker 1: But I mean you expect to see that a little bit.
- 17:38Speaker 1: He's still twenty two. I guess I should actually get
- 17:41Speaker 1: into what Gonzalez actually put up two in terms of
- 17:45Speaker 1: his Double A stats in twenty twenty four through eighty
- 17:49Speaker 1: three and two thirds of a four to seventy three
- 17:51Speaker 1: ear arra. I think he's I mean, I don't like
- 17:53Speaker 1: him too much as like an overall arm just given
- 17:57Speaker 1: he doesn't have some of the hallmarks we're looking for
- 17:59Speaker 1: in terms of the control and the ground ball rates,
- 18:02Speaker 1: so he's a little bit.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Of a wild card.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Chase Meredith, you're looking at the A forty overall future
- 18:10Speaker 1: value prospect on Fangrass from Eric Longenhangen. But great hit
- 18:13Speaker 1: tool in tripa A this year put up a one
- 18:16Speaker 1: thirty two WORC plus with a two ninety three average.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Seems like a pretty solid infielder. And Braiden Montgomery, like
- 18:23Speaker 1: I said, was picked this past year twelfth overall out
- 18:27Speaker 1: of Texas A and M. And this is a very
- 18:31Speaker 1: ominous line in the Itch's summary of Braden Montgomery because
- 18:35Speaker 1: he hasn't played any organized baseball yet, any professional baseball.
- 18:39Speaker 2: But the last line of his blurb from the Itches.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Betting on Boston to identify and develop good prospects makes
- 18:45Speaker 1: a lot of sense to me right now in terms
- 18:47Speaker 1: of talking about how raw what Montgomery was. And I
- 18:52Speaker 1: don't know if there's a bigger downyar grade you can
- 18:55Speaker 1: make than going from an organization that's developed Rome and Anthony,
- 18:59Speaker 1: Christian Campbell and some of these other players to the
- 19:03Speaker 1: White Sox who have not been able to produce anything.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So if you're holding.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Some of these prospects, especially, I think you're gonna be
- 19:10Speaker 1: honed in a little bit more on Teal and Montgomery.
- 19:13Speaker 1: And I mean some people probably do own Meredith out
- 19:17Speaker 1: there in dynasty and keeper leagues. Are you automatically slapping
- 19:22Speaker 1: down arrows on them the way I kind of am
- 19:24Speaker 1: here in terms of that move to the White Sox
- 19:26Speaker 1: or because it is the White Sox, do you see
- 19:29Speaker 1: a better path to.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Being able to reach the majors more quickly?
- 19:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you just hit the nail on the
- 19:34Speaker 4: head there.
- 19:34Speaker 3: That's the exact assessment I have is the upside is capped,
- 19:40Speaker 3: maybe call it ninety percent of what might have been
- 19:41Speaker 3: in Boston just because of a lineup perspective for these guys.
- 19:45Speaker 3: But at the same time, like I'm not gonna be
- 19:48Speaker 3: shocked to Kyle Teal breaks camp with the White Sox.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I don't think he will, but I wouldn't be shocked
- 19:53Speaker 3: if he does. I think they're gonna give him enough
- 19:55Speaker 3: little bit more time at Triple A. And I think
- 19:57Speaker 3: that's the big excitement here is that the Red Sox
- 20:01Speaker 3: a team that is going for it and they're making
- 20:03Speaker 3: their moves. They need to have those veterans and those
- 20:06Speaker 3: everyday players in the lineup, and they can't plug in
- 20:10Speaker 3: at Kyle Teal a catcher just to see what happens.
- 20:13Speaker 3: And if he struggles out of the gate, he's back
- 20:15Speaker 3: in the miners for the next three months for the
- 20:18Speaker 3: White Sox. If he's up, he's up, like he's gonna
- 20:22Speaker 3: be there and he has a you know, a rough
- 20:24Speaker 3: few weeks, he's gonna take a seat and then can
- 20:26Speaker 3: play the next day. So I really like this from
- 20:29Speaker 3: that aspect of you. These guys have a clear path
- 20:32Speaker 3: to the majors. I just think when they get there,
- 20:35Speaker 3: their counting stats are gonna be capped. And so at
- 20:39Speaker 3: the end of the day, I still really like Kyle Teal.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I've I've been in the Kyle Teal guy for a
- 20:43Speaker 3: few years. He's probably the one that jumps the most.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I think Meredith is interesting to a degree. Montgomery will
- 20:50Speaker 3: see what that looks like. But I think, you know,
- 20:53Speaker 3: Kyle Teal reminds me of old school Jonathan Lacroix to
- 20:56Speaker 3: a degree of you know, a good average, you know,
- 21:00Speaker 3: middle of the road Homer, middle of the road steals
- 21:02Speaker 3: type of guy. That when you talk about catcher is
- 21:05Speaker 3: actually really really valuable.
- 21:07Speaker 4: It's not what it used to be, right, It's not
- 21:09Speaker 4: what it used to be. When you're third catcher off
- 21:12Speaker 4: the board is a guy that you didn't want.
- 21:15Speaker 3: And nowadays you can get through all the number one
- 21:18Speaker 3: catchers and rents will be happy that you got a
- 21:20Speaker 3: serviceable player. But I think Teal definitely have as a
- 21:23Speaker 3: chance to threaten the top ten catchers not too far
- 21:27Speaker 3: in the distant future.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, yeah, I think that's fair.
- 21:30Speaker 4: All right.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Next transaction we have is the San Francisco Giants signing
- 21:34Speaker 1: shortstop Willia Damis to a seven year, one and eighty
- 21:38Speaker 1: two million dollars deal that is the largest and Giants history,
- 21:42Speaker 1: which is kind of surprising given the kind of enormity
- 21:46Speaker 1: of the Giants overall. And this wouldn't have been the
- 21:50Speaker 1: case if Carl's career hadn't failed a physical two years ago.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But now Willia Damas is going to take over shortstop
- 21:57Speaker 1: for the Giants, and it also comes with a twenty
- 22:00Speaker 1: two million dollars signing bonus and a full no trade clause,
- 22:03Speaker 1: no deferred money, So it's a massive payday for Willia Damas.
- 22:07Speaker 1: He is coming off a fantastic year for the the Brewers,
- 22:12Speaker 1: in which I mean this happens a lot. I think
- 22:16Speaker 1: it happened with Judge in his free agency year, where
- 22:18Speaker 1: the stolen bases appeared out of nowhere. For a damas As,
- 22:21Speaker 1: he hit thirty two bombs, stole twenty one bases, one
- 22:24Speaker 1: hundred and twelve rbi, ninety three runs, two fifty one average.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It was pretty much first round value out of like
- 22:31Speaker 1: Willia Damas there, he was a stud for fantasy in
- 22:34Speaker 1: twenty twenty four for US. Obviously, that's not coming back
- 22:38Speaker 1: between him playing all those games in a contract year,
- 22:44Speaker 1: being in Milwaukee and moving to a worst park in
- 22:46Speaker 1: San Francisco.
- 22:48Speaker 2: But what do you think he can.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Do as a Giant and kind of like where do
- 22:52Speaker 1: you think you might be kind of taking him in
- 22:54Speaker 1: the hierarchy of shortstops overall?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think this is absolutely down for
- 23:00Speaker 3: Willie Domas. Like the there's a little lineup protection there,
- 23:03Speaker 3: but it's not substantial beyond like a Matt Chapman. There's
- 23:08Speaker 3: only one team that ran less than the Giants last year,
- 23:12Speaker 3: and that was the Twins, and the Giants had the
- 23:15Speaker 3: second least amount of steels and it wasn't just like
- 23:18Speaker 3: by a little like they stole sixty eight bases last year.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Compare that to Milwaukee, who stole two hundred and seventeen.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So like, I don't know that it's a clear cut
- 23:31Speaker 3: this in a third, but you look at the history
- 23:32Speaker 3: of a damas you look at that dynamic, and I
- 23:36Speaker 3: might be shocked if he gets double digit steals next
- 23:38Speaker 3: year and you throw in those park factors for San
- 23:42Speaker 3: Francisco and he's going to take a pretty big hit
- 23:45Speaker 3: from a power perspective.
- 23:47Speaker 4: So are we talking about.
- 23:49Speaker 3: A guy that goes like twenty homers and eight steals.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I wouldn't be shocked shocked by that, So I think
- 23:59Speaker 3: it definitely hambers him right now.
- 24:01Speaker 4: He's going kind.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Of in the the early early rounds. He is a
- 24:07Speaker 3: tenth shortstop off the board, but it is kind of
- 24:11Speaker 3: number sixty eight overall. So you're talking right there, and
- 24:14Speaker 3: that's you know, six, you know, fifth, sixth round, and
- 24:19Speaker 3: I start looking at the guys behind them, like a
- 24:21Speaker 3: Matt McClain, Yep, you go Tovar, Vulpay, Bischet, Bogarts, like
- 24:27Speaker 3: all I almost like that whole group there maybe a
- 24:31Speaker 3: question mark on the Bogart sidet the end of it
- 24:33Speaker 3: above Adamas where he's landing, and I think it's to
- 24:37Speaker 3: your point, like there's always a tax the guy signs
- 24:40Speaker 3: like when a big free agent deals. You look at that,
- 24:42Speaker 3: he's like, well, he must be phenomenal. And I think
- 24:44Speaker 3: this one just really really hurts for Adamas. So I'm
- 24:48Speaker 3: downgrading him pretty significantly. And you're talking about guys that
- 24:51Speaker 3: are going like one hundred picks later in Xander Bogart's
- 24:55Speaker 3: that I'm like questioning, maybe I'd rather have Xander Bogertz.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I don't think I would, but I i'm I'm I'm
- 25:01Speaker 3: happy with Bolpe Matt McClain over over a Damas, just
- 25:07Speaker 3: because if I think that he's gonna take such a
- 25:08Speaker 3: step back, and he had a platform year last year.
- 25:11Speaker 3: He absolutely had a platform year. So if you look
- 25:13Speaker 3: at his you know, the two years prior, his best
- 25:17Speaker 3: average was two thirty eight. He stole his top steals
- 25:21Speaker 3: was eight, like it wasn't He wasn't setting the world
- 25:25Speaker 3: on fire, So I don't. I don't think the numbers
- 25:27Speaker 3: I was thrown out there were really too far off
- 25:30Speaker 3: of potentials. So the only thing I like about the
- 25:32Speaker 3: signing is my guy haas On Kim isn't gonna go
- 25:36Speaker 3: to San Francisco Like I think that's the biggest fantasy
- 25:42Speaker 3: aspect of this. And a guy that's, you know, gonna
- 25:45Speaker 3: is number twenty seven off the board from a short
- 25:47Speaker 3: stop perspective, if he goes to somewhere else where he
- 25:50Speaker 3: gets every day playing diamonds, not in the San Francisco ballpark,
- 25:53Speaker 3: I get the injury, you know, question marks. I think
- 25:57Speaker 3: he should fly up draft boards. So how far off
- 26:00Speaker 3: am I are you? Willie Adamas lover and I have
- 26:02Speaker 3: just rained on your parade?
- 26:04Speaker 2: No, I actually am literally in lockstep with you.
- 26:07Speaker 1: When I was looking at the shortstops going off the board,
- 26:11Speaker 1: that's exactly where I pushed a Domis down to.
- 26:14Speaker 2: In my head, is.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Pretty much a coin flip with Xander Bogarts, because at
- 26:18Speaker 1: that point Bogarts will have probably a higher average, but
- 26:21Speaker 1: you're just going to get a little more volume, a
- 26:24Speaker 1: little more power out of a Damas.
- 26:25Speaker 2: So it's the trade off there.
- 26:27Speaker 1: But I think that's right where the value should be
- 26:29Speaker 1: in terms of somebody who's going to be playing a
- 26:32Speaker 1: lot and just that park is going to hamper him
- 26:36Speaker 1: a lot, and so it's going to be really tough
- 26:38Speaker 1: I think for a Damas to come anywhere close to
- 26:42Speaker 1: sniffing some of the values where he was picked at
- 26:46Speaker 1: in this kind of opening portion of the NFBC drafts,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and certainly a bummer if you did take him, because
- 26:54Speaker 1: there were it would have been awesome if he had
- 26:56Speaker 1: ended up in LA or New York or somewhere where
- 26:59Speaker 1: the lineup around him was better and the park situation
- 27:02Speaker 1: was obviously going to be better. You can't really get
- 27:04Speaker 1: too much worse than San Francisco as a hitter.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like you can't get worse if you find
- 27:10Speaker 3: the polar grounds anymore. But otherwise it's it's about as
- 27:14Speaker 3: bad as he gets here for for a Damas. And
- 27:17Speaker 3: I don't think the market's going to react to honestly,
- 27:19Speaker 3: I don't. I don't think the fantasy market's going to
- 27:22Speaker 3: react as well as much as they should, because I
- 27:24Speaker 3: think it's a shine of the new one hundred and
- 27:27Speaker 3: seventy two million dollars contract to off the top of
- 27:29Speaker 3: my head that he signed, or maybe that was a
- 27:32Speaker 3: free deal.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, Yeah, it'll be weird because I think he'll
- 27:37Speaker 1: dip a little bit, as like the the hardcore people
- 27:40Speaker 1: really pick over the next month or so, and then
- 27:42Speaker 1: he'll rise again as kind of like the more casual
- 27:45Speaker 1: crowd comes back and is sorting by twenty twenty four
- 27:48Speaker 1: stats a lot and not necessarily taking as many projections
- 27:51Speaker 1: into the future. So it'll be a funny arc in
- 27:55Speaker 1: terms of draft season, I think for Willia Domas. Okay,
- 27:59Speaker 1: let's get on to the next signing. Another mega deal.
- 28:02Speaker 1: This one was announced last night, obviously after I drafted
- 28:06Speaker 1: all this rundown up and so had to re update it,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and that is Max Freed signing with the New York Yankees.
- 28:12Speaker 1: In an absolute crazy deal for Max Freed, considering his
- 28:17Speaker 1: history of elbow and four arm issues that he's gone
- 28:21Speaker 1: through over the past couple of years. The Yankees handed
- 28:23Speaker 1: over eight years, two hundred and eighteen million dollars, largest
- 28:28Speaker 1: contract for a left handed pitcher in baseball history. And
- 28:32Speaker 1: this is coming with no deferred money, no opt out clauses.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And this is brutal if you had any hopes of
- 28:42Speaker 1: Max Freed kind of bouncing back and getting value, because
- 28:46Speaker 1: not only is this like a huge deal, but like
- 28:52Speaker 1: I worry about, like the pressure of this deal, I guess,
- 28:55Speaker 1: is what I'm getting to. It's like it's a much
- 28:57Speaker 1: softer thing, but you can kind of see how it
- 29:00Speaker 1: eroded Carlos Rodon.
- 29:02Speaker 2: A little bit and Max Freed, I don't know.
- 29:05Speaker 1: He just doesn't quite strike me as the guy, the
- 29:07Speaker 1: southpaw who would be deserving of this deal. And it
- 29:11Speaker 1: obviously came on the heels of the Yankees losing out
- 29:16Speaker 1: on Soto and needing to move on to Plan B
- 29:19Speaker 1: and kind of fill out the roster in different ways.
- 29:21Speaker 1: But this feels like a huge overreach that it's just
- 29:27Speaker 1: the weight that's going to be on Max Fried's shoulders.
- 29:29Speaker 1: It reminds me a lot of like when our boy
- 29:31Speaker 1: Sonny Gray showed up in New York and just like
- 29:33Speaker 1: things eroded because he just couldn't quite handle New York.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And maybe I'm reading into Max Fried incorrectly, but he
- 29:42Speaker 1: just doesn't strike me as this type of player. And
- 29:46Speaker 1: I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think
- 29:47Speaker 1: this is another huge downgrade to the overall value of
- 29:51Speaker 1: a player. Move in also into just a brutal, brutal division.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I might not be as strong as you,
- 29:58Speaker 3: but I think you soured on Free the last two
- 30:01Speaker 3: years before before this move and where I've I've actually
- 30:05Speaker 3: kind of like wanted to acquire Max Freed. But I
- 30:10Speaker 3: do think it's a downgrade. I I I think the
- 30:13Speaker 3: ballpark's not ideal. I do think the pressure of New
- 30:18Speaker 3: York is an issue. His skills have degraded over the
- 30:20Speaker 3: last few years. Like just very minute, it just seems
- 30:24Speaker 3: like things are just taking a step back. Just look
- 30:26Speaker 3: at some mott page, like it's like all red and
- 30:28Speaker 3: it's like mostly red. Then it's like kind of kind
- 30:31Speaker 3: of some red. Like it's just it's just going the
- 30:33Speaker 3: wrong way.
- 30:34Speaker 4: And that the kicker for me is that the Yankees
- 30:38Speaker 4: don't seem to be able to handle veteran pictures. It's
- 30:45Speaker 4: not that they can't develop pictures.
- 30:47Speaker 3: If you think about the guys that have come through
- 30:49Speaker 3: the systems they got like the Michael Kings, you got.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Louise Heel, like.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Guys that are kind of come up through the system,
- 30:56Speaker 3: they seem like if they're learning the way the Yankees
- 30:59Speaker 3: want to, and their skill set matches that teaching, like
- 31:02Speaker 3: it seems to kind of work. But then you bring
- 31:06Speaker 3: guys in use. Sonny Gray's a great example. You bring
- 31:08Speaker 3: guys in even Garrett Cole, I feel like hasn't like
- 31:12Speaker 3: been himself since he became a Yankee. And I feel
- 31:16Speaker 3: like the same thing would we say for Freed, Like
- 31:17Speaker 3: they want you to be this one guy versus be yourself.
- 31:22Speaker 3: And I know I've read interviews from Sonny Gray like
- 31:25Speaker 3: that was the worst experience of a team he ever
- 31:27Speaker 3: went to because they they wanted him to be a
- 31:31Speaker 3: certain way and not pitch the way he wanted to
- 31:34Speaker 3: pitch in way it was comfortable for him, and that
- 31:37Speaker 3: was a huge huge impact on not just the psyche
- 31:40Speaker 3: but the performance, because if you can't lean into your strengths,
- 31:43Speaker 3: then what are you doing?
- 31:45Speaker 4: So I do think that this is a downgrade for him.
- 31:48Speaker 4: That said, have you looked at the ADEP for Max Freed?
- 31:52Speaker 4: If so, don't, because I'm gonna quiz you down here. Okay,
- 31:57Speaker 4: what what pitcher?
- 31:58Speaker 3: And we have relievers in here. I'm not subtracting the relievers.
- 32:02Speaker 3: What picture number going off the board?
- 32:04Speaker 4: Do you think Max Freed is right now?
- 32:06Speaker 1: It was probably just like one mouse scroll down from
- 32:09Speaker 1: where I was just looking at Crochet. I'm gonna guess
- 32:11Speaker 1: like people do really love him. I'm gonna guess like fifteenth.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Forty third, what forty third he is going off the board.
- 32:22Speaker 3: So right after Hunter Brown, Joe Ryan, right before Greece
- 32:26Speaker 3: and Rodriguez, Tyler Glass and our boy Sonny Gray, and
- 32:31Speaker 3: then you're starting to get them mcclanahan's, the Gallons, the
- 32:33Speaker 3: Flarties of the World, carls Rawdon's like it's already kind
- 32:37Speaker 3: of baked in to a degree, and so I think
- 32:40Speaker 3: it's it's kind of doing to do with the almost
- 32:42Speaker 3: the exacts that same thing we just talked about with
- 32:44Speaker 3: adamis where it's actually about to do the opposite.
- 32:46Speaker 4: It's like the Yankees tag I'm gonna come in and.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Then it's gonna go down. So I was very surprised
- 32:53Speaker 3: to see that.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Now there's probably you know, ten relievers mixed into the
- 32:59Speaker 4: mix there.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And so you know, once you take out the Duran's
- 33:04Speaker 3: the World and the Felix Batistas and Glaciers and Hell's
- 33:07Speaker 3: Lilies and things like that, call it mid thirties, but
- 33:13Speaker 3: you know, he's definitely a step down from even your
- 33:16Speaker 3: Bryce Miller's and your Lewis Castillo's and Aaron Nola's and
- 33:21Speaker 3: you know, Garrett.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Cole things like that.
- 33:23Speaker 3: So I think it's a very interesting dynamic that he
- 33:28Speaker 3: seems like he was almost underpriced.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Yeah, going into the offseason. I think this might actually
- 33:33Speaker 4: just mark it correct him.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I will be fascinating to watch where that settles, because again,
- 33:38Speaker 1: I think this is also another case of where like
- 33:41Speaker 1: the baseball sickos are the ones that are really drafting
- 33:45Speaker 1: right now that like, I don't think that in most
- 33:48Speaker 1: kind of more home league situation drafts that Max Freed
- 33:54Speaker 1: would be going quite that low. So it'll be interesting
- 33:56Speaker 1: to see how that ebbs and flows as well. So
- 33:59Speaker 1: I will actually kind of like ear market that we
- 34:01Speaker 1: can revisit that maybe as a part of our preview
- 34:04Speaker 1: series when we turned the corner into twenty twenty five. Okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: next signing that we have is a re signing, as
- 34:12Speaker 1: Shane Bieber I also said, justin there, that's real close.
- 34:18Speaker 4: That's the other podcast.
- 34:19Speaker 1: That's the other podcast, Yes, exactly, our pop music podcasts
- 34:22Speaker 1: we're recording after this that he is returning to Cleveland
- 34:26Speaker 1: on a two year deal. There were reports out there
- 34:30Speaker 1: that he turned down larger deals from other teams, that
- 34:33Speaker 1: he wanted to stick with the Guardians and you know,
- 34:36Speaker 1: finish his rehab from Tommy John surgery there after he
- 34:40Speaker 1: underwent the knife in I think, like may Or in April,
- 34:43Speaker 1: he went under underwent Tommy John in April, so he should.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, like Tommy John, recoveries are very aggressive nowadays.
- 34:53Speaker 1: We saw this with Jacob de Gram this past year
- 34:55Speaker 1: where it did get pushed back a little bit. So
- 34:58Speaker 1: I would probably pencil in Bieber being out through at
- 35:02Speaker 1: least the All Star break through twenty twenty five personally,
- 35:05Speaker 1: And it was a fantastic opening to twenty twenty four,
- 35:09Speaker 1: as it almost kind of seemed like, you know, Bieber
- 35:11Speaker 1: had been battling elbow issues up into the season and
- 35:16Speaker 1: then went to drive line and it just kind of
- 35:18Speaker 1: seems like he realized, like, hey, my UCLs on its
- 35:23Speaker 1: last threads, might as well just push it and see
- 35:25Speaker 1: where it goes.
- 35:26Speaker 2: And it blew out and in.
- 35:27Speaker 1: The early season, but everything I kind of returned before that,
- 35:31Speaker 1: because I think he stopped pitching scared for a little
- 35:33Speaker 1: bit and just kind of like accepted his fate oddly.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And so I believe it is his first Tommy John surgery,
- 35:40Speaker 1: so there's that factor. It's usually much easier return from
- 35:43Speaker 1: a first Tommy John surgery, but we're still talking of
- 35:46Speaker 1: really significant surgery. And given how great he looked in
- 35:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty four before he blew out, you know, it
- 35:52Speaker 1: was only two starts, twelve innings, but it was a.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Fifteen K nine. He was blowing people away.
- 35:58Speaker 1: It looked like the steel of the the year from
- 36:00Speaker 1: the pitching side and drafts, what do you think you're
- 36:04Speaker 1: gonna do with Bieber going into I know you're gonna
- 36:07Speaker 1: take him because you love injured pitchers and they're gonna
- 36:09Speaker 1: be stashing them everywhere into twenty twenty five, So there's
- 36:12Speaker 1: that consideration. But then also like if you are in
- 36:15Speaker 1: a dynasty keeper league where Bieber might be available because
- 36:19Speaker 1: you know the owner doesn't want to lose that half
- 36:22Speaker 1: season and kind of wants to cash in. Do you
- 36:24Speaker 1: have faith in reinvesting in Shane Bieber going forward?
- 36:28Speaker 4: You already know the answer, but we will go through here. Yes, yes,
- 36:33Speaker 4: Shane Bieber. I don't think there's a better move for him,
- 36:36Speaker 4: and I think he knew that too.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Is Cleveland has always got the most out of Shane Bieber,
- 36:42Speaker 3: and I really think when he was at his best
- 36:46Speaker 3: a few years ago, the only difference between a few
- 36:49Speaker 3: years ago in like you know, twenty twenty three was
- 36:52Speaker 3: velocity and you kind of got there with confidence, and
- 36:55Speaker 3: he seemed to show up with that last year, and
- 36:58Speaker 3: so he knows the formulas to success here and the
- 37:00Speaker 3: guardians know the formula's success, and so I think that
- 37:04Speaker 3: he is really exciting to come back in later half
- 37:07Speaker 3: of this next year. It's still a guy coming off
- 37:10Speaker 3: of Homi John surgery, so he's still like, I don't
- 37:13Speaker 3: think he's going to be like dominant in twenty twenty five.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I think he's going to be good, and he's a
- 37:19Speaker 3: guy that like, at the very end of the draft,
- 37:20Speaker 3: I'm going to try to grab him, throw in an
- 37:22Speaker 3: Ayel spot and hope that I don't need to use
- 37:25Speaker 3: all my ile spots that you know, come June time,
- 37:28Speaker 3: praying whatever that may be. But from a long term
- 37:32Speaker 3: keeper perspective, Shane Bieber's a top ten pictuer of my book,
- 37:36Speaker 3: I think he is a top ten pitcher, and I'm
- 37:40Speaker 3: going to acquire him everywhere I can for a cheap, cheap,
- 37:45Speaker 3: you know draft, pick a few dollars on a fab
- 37:48Speaker 3: whatever it may be, because I would not be shocked
- 37:51Speaker 3: to see us sitting here next year talking about him
- 37:54Speaker 3: in that fifteen twenty pitcher realm with the potential of
- 38:00Speaker 3: coming off of a strong offseason to do more.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Like, I'm not shocked about that at all.
- 38:05Speaker 3: And there's very few pictures out kind of like a
- 38:07Speaker 3: Rokie Sasaki that you could have that conversation, be like,
- 38:10Speaker 3: we don't have anything right now, but we could be
- 38:12Speaker 3: talking about him in the top ten range a year
- 38:14Speaker 3: from now. Now Saki, we're already probably trying to force
- 38:17Speaker 3: that conversation.
- 38:19Speaker 4: But I really like Shane Bieber. I've always loved the profile, the.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Control, the ground balls, the velocity, the way he keeps
- 38:27Speaker 3: the ball at the bottom of the zone. All those
- 38:29Speaker 3: things are fantastic. So yeah, it's timy John. I don't
- 38:34Speaker 3: think there's a better thing that he could have done
- 38:35Speaker 3: than go back to Cleveland and they're gonna make sure
- 38:39Speaker 3: that he's healthy and then come back and there's some
- 38:42Speaker 3: value in twenty five, but the real value is long term.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that makes sense. So I'm not shocked
- 38:47Speaker 1: by your answer whatsoever.
- 38:49Speaker 4: It's like you wrote this book. Hopefully nobody in our
- 38:53Speaker 4: home leagues listen to this.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Podcast because we all know what's gonna happen in that
- 38:56Speaker 3: drect exactly.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Okay, next transaction we have is another trade, and this
- 39:01Speaker 1: one involves another player that was in the White Sox
- 39:05Speaker 1: organization is near and dear to my heart, that is
- 39:07Speaker 1: Jake Berger moving from the Miami Marlins to the Texas Rangers.
- 39:12Speaker 1: We were all in on Berger in the preseason, and
- 39:15Speaker 1: I'm glad we were because it paid off. He ended
- 39:18Speaker 1: up hitting two fifty with twenty nine bombs, sixty eight runs,
- 39:21Speaker 1: seventy six RBI. But I mean that who's who Jake
- 39:24Speaker 1: Berger is over an entire season. He's almost like a
- 39:27Speaker 1: set it and forget it, two fifty thirty homer guy.
- 39:31Speaker 1: If he gets the entire run of playing time, I
- 39:34Speaker 1: don't think it matters the park. He obviously just did
- 39:36Speaker 1: it in Miami. I think you can pencil that in
- 39:39Speaker 1: going forward. And it's also kind of funny that the
- 39:42Speaker 1: Rangers made this trade after last week I was spouting
- 39:46Speaker 1: about how excited it was for Kyle Gashioka to maybe
- 39:49Speaker 1: get some of these dh at pats in Texas. I
- 39:51Speaker 1: think they're all about to be absorbed by our boy
- 39:54Speaker 1: Jake Berger, who has settled into I think a pretty
- 39:57Speaker 1: nice situation you're looking at, like, especially where he might
- 40:00Speaker 1: have hurt you last year, where's the sixty eight runs,
- 40:03Speaker 1: seventy six RBI because he was in the Miami lineup
- 40:07Speaker 1: immediately fixed with moving over to Texas. In return, Miami
- 40:12Speaker 1: picked up Maxic Costa, Brian Mendoza, Etch Jury Vargas. A
- 40:19Speaker 1: Costa and Vargas are infielders, Mendoza is a pitcher. I
- 40:23Speaker 1: think all those guys are kind of more like watchless
- 40:26Speaker 1: d kind of keeper dynasty players. And you know, I'm
- 40:30Speaker 1: actually a little bit interested in Mendoza with the Cardinals
- 40:32Speaker 1: or not the Cardinals. The Marlins turned Mendoza into because
- 40:36Speaker 1: he had a really nice season last year and you know,
- 40:40Speaker 1: has some electric stuff. This is kind of the type
- 40:42Speaker 1: of profile the Marlins really can transform. But let's focus
- 40:46Speaker 1: on Burger here. Am I being too simple with Berger
- 40:50Speaker 1: in terms of like what he is? Or do you
- 40:53Speaker 1: think there's more or less than his profile going forward
- 40:56Speaker 1: in Texas?
- 40:57Speaker 3: I think you hit lanail ahead here. We know exactly
- 40:59Speaker 3: who Jake Berger gris. He's a guy whos gonnet two fifty,
- 41:01Speaker 3: hit thirty home runs. Moving to Texas gives him ten
- 41:04Speaker 3: to fifteen more runs, ten to fifty more.
- 41:06Speaker 4: RBIs. That's it.
- 41:07Speaker 3: That's simple, simple enough story. I don't think you need
- 41:09Speaker 3: to be here on the bush anymore. You know, he's
- 41:11Speaker 3: going off the board as a number ten third baseman
- 41:14Speaker 3: in those early drafts, right behind Junior Camaniero, Royce Lewis right,
- 41:18Speaker 3: had Matt Chapman, Alex Bragman, feels right, looks good. Yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 3: I have no no, no qualms whatsoever. This it's like,
- 41:24Speaker 3: it's free Jake Berger and he was freed like he
- 41:29Speaker 3: was Max freed and let's go.
- 41:31Speaker 4: So I'm I'm happy for you.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I'm very excited that you can expouse Jake Berger all
- 41:38Speaker 3: spring and hopefully he stays healthy.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly so, I think.
- 41:43Speaker 1: And it's also like a great floor player, Like if
- 41:46Speaker 1: you're in that spot where you're like you've taken a
- 41:48Speaker 1: little more risk early on and you're just looking for
- 41:51Speaker 1: somebody who's going to play one hundred and forty games
- 41:53Speaker 1: and just show up. Jake Berger is your man. He's
- 41:56Speaker 1: I think he's really settled into that. It's it's a
- 41:58Speaker 1: great rallying spot for him. I'm really okay. Next move
- 42:02Speaker 1: we have is Tyler O'Neill signing with the Baltimore Orioles,
- 42:07Speaker 1: and this settles in as a three year, forty nine
- 42:11Speaker 1: and a half million dollar deal and just adds to
- 42:15Speaker 1: all the outfielders that the Oriols already had. It's kind
- 42:18Speaker 1: of a confounding move considering this team needed pitching and
- 42:22Speaker 1: pitching and more pitching, and to go out there and
- 42:25Speaker 1: spend this money on Tyler O'Neill, I think kind of
- 42:28Speaker 1: came as a shock. I did see that Michael Ayas
- 42:31Speaker 1: made a pretty good joke today when he was talking
- 42:33Speaker 1: at the winter meetings that part of the reason that
- 42:36Speaker 1: they moved in Waltimore there in Camden Yards was to
- 42:40Speaker 1: be able to go out and acquire somebody like Tyler
- 42:43Speaker 1: O'Neal and make him sign on the dodline.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I don't know why they needed Tyler O'Neill, but I think.
- 42:49Speaker 1: It's a given that Waltimore is moving in good lineup
- 42:54Speaker 1: should be a pretty decent landing spot for Tyler O'Neill.
- 42:57Speaker 2: But what do you think about his profile going forward?
- 43:00Speaker 1: Obviously very much health based, but do you see anything
- 43:03Speaker 1: maybe concerning in his overall profile bad and ball played
- 43:09Speaker 1: approach as well as he's gonna be on the other
- 43:12Speaker 1: side of thirty now going forward.
- 43:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's the first thing is, you know,
- 43:17Speaker 3: how is he gonna play in Baltimore with the dimensions
- 43:20Speaker 3: last year?
- 43:20Speaker 4: He probably have lost five or ten home runs. I
- 43:23Speaker 4: don't know. The dimension changes this.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Year help him significantly, because you know, lowering the wall
- 43:29Speaker 3: is not the same as bringing it in, but I
- 43:32Speaker 3: think that will help. To me, it's just O'Neill's got
- 43:35Speaker 3: such a volatile profile that it's not that I'm concerned
- 43:40Speaker 3: with skill degradation or something like that, is just which
- 43:43Speaker 3: one are you gonna get? He is such a high strikeout,
- 43:46Speaker 3: low walk, you know, three outcome player modern day Adam Dunn. Sure,
- 43:52Speaker 3: it's it's tough for for that kind of profile to play.
- 43:57Speaker 3: And I do have questions of how much is he
- 43:59Speaker 3: gonna run? Like it just seems that he can run
- 44:03Speaker 3: and then he doesn't, and he's his front speed has
- 44:06Speaker 3: definitely dropped over the years pretty pretty significantly.
- 44:12Speaker 2: So I every think Jake Berger my man.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, his his his years in
- 44:17Speaker 3: Saint Louis, he was in the ninety upper ninetieth percentiles
- 44:21Speaker 3: from a stat cast perspective, and he just slows significantly,
- 44:27Speaker 3: and so it seems like those steals are are gone
- 44:30Speaker 3: for good and he's gonna come down to just all power.
- 44:36Speaker 3: So I think O'Neill's, you know, he's going off the
- 44:39Speaker 3: board in the mid forties. From an outfield perspective, that
- 44:43Speaker 3: feels right to me, because he is going to be
- 44:47Speaker 3: relatively a lower average, high homer, high RBI type guy.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Maybe you know, Jake Berger with.
- 44:58Speaker 3: More homer potential, worst average, that might be kind of
- 45:02Speaker 3: what you're seeing. So I think the volatility scares me.
- 45:05Speaker 3: And so I'm probably the steer away from O'Neill generally speaking.
- 45:09Speaker 3: But there's gonna be a point in the draft that
- 45:12Speaker 3: you can't find that power elsewhere and he's gonna get
- 45:15Speaker 3: really really tempting to take.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and you, I mean, obviously this hasn't been adjusted
- 45:21Speaker 1: for the wall coming in and left field in Baltimore,
- 45:24Speaker 1: but last year he hit thirty one homers in total.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It would have been twenty nine in Boston if they'd
- 45:29Speaker 1: all been in Boston, only twenty four in Baltimore, So
- 45:33Speaker 1: it would have really shaved off that number. But we'll
- 45:36Speaker 1: see how Baltimore plays going into twenty twenty five. Is
- 45:39Speaker 1: it should be somewhere in the middle like the twenty
- 45:43Speaker 1: four and the thirty one, so it'll be interesting to
- 45:46Speaker 1: see what Tyler O'Neil can do there. And next move
- 45:49Speaker 1: we have is another resigning. Just occurred yesterday and announced
- 45:55Speaker 1: that Nathan and Eovaldi will be resigning with the Texas
- 45:58Speaker 1: Rangers on a three year deal with seventy five million dollars.
- 46:03Speaker 2: And he put together a very solid season.
- 46:07Speaker 1: It was sneaky overall in value because like he didn't
- 46:10Speaker 1: come out of the gates too hot Evaldi that that is.
- 46:14Speaker 1: But by the end of the season he had put
- 46:15Speaker 1: up one hundred and seventy two thirds innings with a
- 46:18Speaker 1: three point eight RA, which is below league average. League
- 46:21Speaker 1: average was just around four, so you know, maybe a
- 46:24Speaker 1: little bit high on the fantasy average, but still did
- 46:28Speaker 1: that as a thirty four year old.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Put up eight point eight K nine. The walks were good.
- 46:34Speaker 1: The ground ball rate took a little bit of a
- 46:36Speaker 1: dip from where it was in twenty twenty three, but
- 46:38Speaker 1: still pretty solid at forty eight percent.
- 46:41Speaker 2: This is the type of old man dependable picture.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I love picking up for cheap discounts in drafts because
- 46:47Speaker 1: like it is a little bit of a set it
- 46:48Speaker 1: and forget it. And it does feel like Avaldi's settling into.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Innings eating ace.
- 46:56Speaker 1: At one hundred and sixty innings a year, which is
- 46:58Speaker 1: crazy to say about Iovaldi and it, you know, one
- 47:02Speaker 1: hundred and sixty innings being an innings eating ace. But
- 47:06Speaker 1: I think that's where Aleovaldy is. I think you can
- 47:08Speaker 1: almost like rerun his exact numbers from last year, and
- 47:12Speaker 1: that's about where he's gonna settle. What do you think
- 47:14Speaker 1: about Aovaldi returning to Texas and going forward?
- 47:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm right there with you, old man.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Uvaldi is just you know, consistent, is consistent, gets out,
- 47:24Speaker 3: don't ay broke, don't fix it. I mean, in the
- 47:26Speaker 3: last five years, as e ra has ranged from three
- 47:30Speaker 3: point six y three to three point eighty seven in
- 47:33Speaker 3: five years.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Like that's consistent.
- 47:36Speaker 3: And he's basically a strikeout per eating guy. He's basically
- 47:40Speaker 3: two walks per nine type of guy, Gonna keep the
- 47:45Speaker 3: ball on the ground, gonna limit damage.
- 47:46Speaker 4: The homers can be a little thin key for.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Him at times, but the whip's gonna, you know, because
- 47:51Speaker 3: the walks is gonna stay really really in line.
- 47:55Speaker 4: So I like Evaldi. The thing is.
- 47:58Speaker 3: He's cheap nobody's seen. Just want to pay for this profile.
- 48:01Speaker 3: He's going off the board. Is the eighty fourth pitcher
- 48:04Speaker 3: at this point in time, and you know, yeah, there's
- 48:07Speaker 3: probably twenty five relievers ahead of that, so call it sixty.
- 48:10Speaker 4: Still love it.
- 48:11Speaker 3: But you're talking about guys McKenzie gore n that. Uh yeah,
- 48:19Speaker 3: Like it's it's guys that are hurt and like all
- 48:22Speaker 3: kinds of things, it's like, you know, what, what what
- 48:25Speaker 3: are we doing here? Like why why are you letting
- 48:27Speaker 3: you know Steth Lugo's going like fifteen spots above him? Like, uh,
- 48:32Speaker 3: Evaldi is he's a number three or four in your
- 48:36Speaker 3: fantasy team. You just put him in there and just
- 48:39Speaker 3: live life happy. Uh So I love it, going back
- 48:42Speaker 3: to what's working. Don't don't rock the boat. We don't
- 48:47Speaker 3: need a ballpark change or anything like that. So I'll
- 48:50Speaker 3: take all the Evaldi shares you you can throw my way.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and I I think he's a great kind of
- 48:56Speaker 1: like and you know this just because he's on my autonute.
- 49:00Speaker 1: In terms of like if you're looking for like a
- 49:02Speaker 1: keeper dynasty like pitcher to slot in because you just
- 49:05Speaker 1: need something dependable will show up for every start and
- 49:09Speaker 1: as cheap as all get out. Aovaldi really ticks a
- 49:13Speaker 1: law of those boxes that you know, especially if you've
- 49:16Speaker 1: if the Aovald owner will take a cheap hot like
- 49:22Speaker 1: single a pitcher and return I'll take that all day.
- 49:26Speaker 1: That's a great exchange to be able to bring in
- 49:28Speaker 1: some dependability on those teams. And so yeah, I love
- 49:32Speaker 1: Aovaldi going into twenty twenty five.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, I mean the only thing I struggle with
- 49:36Speaker 3: here is I'm the one that traded you Uvaldi. So
- 49:38Speaker 3: that's the only problem that we have here, and looking
- 49:41Speaker 3: back at the deal from just over a year ago,
- 49:44Speaker 3: I really regret that.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you very much. You're saving my pitching staff
- 49:49Speaker 1: in that league.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Next move we have is maybe the most shocking move
- 49:54Speaker 1: that we've had since we talked last week. The thirty
- 49:57Speaker 1: year old Luisavrino coming off of a seat. He's in
- 50:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty four with the Mets, in which he threw
- 50:02Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty two innings, went eleven and seven
- 50:06Speaker 1: with a three ninety one ear array and just around
- 50:10Speaker 1: eight K per nine cash that in and is going
- 50:13Speaker 1: to Sacramento with the with the Athletics as they move
- 50:16Speaker 1: into that minor league ballpark. It is a fat, fat
- 50:20Speaker 1: deal in terms of three years, sixty seven million dollars,
- 50:26Speaker 1: and obviously the Athletics had to overpay to bring Severino in.
- 50:30Speaker 1: There's been rumors that the Athletics have I guess no,
- 50:33Speaker 1: it got debunked. They there was a rumor that they
- 50:36Speaker 1: were in on freed and then it got debunked by
- 50:37Speaker 1: the Athletics. But there's been other murmurings of the Athletics
- 50:40Speaker 1: are trying to bring new free agents in there just
- 50:44Speaker 1: to be able to put a decent product in front
- 50:46Speaker 1: of the Sacramento fans and try to draw.
- 50:48Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 50:49Speaker 1: But wow, I can't believe that they were able to
- 50:52Speaker 1: bag Lis Saverno like this. And great for him considering
- 50:55Speaker 1: where Severino was at going in twenty twenty four coming
- 50:59Speaker 1: off of those shoulder injury, shoulder and elbow injuries with
- 51:02Speaker 1: the Yankees, and obviously this is gonna hurt going to
- 51:06Speaker 1: that minor league park in Sacramento. But where do you
- 51:11Speaker 1: think that like sever Reno's kind of skill profile can
- 51:14Speaker 1: settle in terms of again, like it's a little bit
- 51:17Speaker 1: of an unknown with that park, but like, do you
- 51:19Speaker 1: think that he will be usable from a fantasy perspective.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm really struggled with sever Rena. I struggle with
- 51:26Speaker 3: sever Reno before the signing. I mean, he's he's one
- 51:29Speaker 3: of those guys that in today's day and age, if
- 51:31Speaker 3: you aren't striking out like a guy per inning, it hurts.
- 51:35Speaker 3: And he's not even sniff and eight per per nine.
- 51:39Speaker 3: I mean, he's right under it. And so he's really
- 51:43Speaker 3: been hurting you from a whip perspective, and it's it's
- 51:48Speaker 3: concerning the things he's put up, like looked really good
- 51:52Speaker 3: for where he was, but I think that ballpark should
- 51:55Speaker 3: be really unpredictable, and I think there's gonna be that
- 51:58Speaker 3: mantra of he's playing, going to the A's it's gonna
- 52:00Speaker 3: help him, just as we've always been trained to think.
- 52:03Speaker 3: And I think that ballpark is gonna play small. I
- 52:06Speaker 3: think it's gonna play small, and that's really gonna hurt
- 52:09Speaker 3: a guy like Severrino. He he puts the ball in
- 52:12Speaker 3: the air more than your average pitcher, not a ton,
- 52:16Speaker 3: but definitely more. He's not a ground ball artist, and
- 52:20Speaker 3: I think that's gonna be damaging for him. And you know,
- 52:22Speaker 3: the market's already kind of there on him, and he's
- 52:25Speaker 3: he's won twelve off the board. For a pitching perspective,
- 52:28Speaker 3: he is way down there, and I really don't I'm
- 52:31Speaker 3: just not tempted to buy him. And I think the A's
- 52:33Speaker 3: had to overpay for that to get some of that upside.
- 52:37Speaker 3: But I also think he took the best thing he
- 52:40Speaker 3: could get and ran with it. A surprise with that
- 52:42Speaker 3: qualifying offer that he was able to do.
- 52:46Speaker 1: That, So yeah, I agree, it's it's kind of crazy. Yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 1: I don't think I'll end up with any Sevarrino shares,
- 52:51Speaker 1: just because, like it's also gonna take a little bit
- 52:53Speaker 1: of like a mental readjustment that you can't just stream
- 52:57Speaker 1: the hell out of athletics pictures and like a to
- 53:00Speaker 1: start week at home in Oakland. That like it's gonna
- 53:03Speaker 1: take a little rewiring to like not be looking at
- 53:06Speaker 1: the likes of like Brady Basso and some of these
- 53:08Speaker 1: like raindows they bring up that you've got to totally
- 53:12Speaker 1: just throw athletics pictures out the door, I think, going
- 53:15Speaker 1: into twenty twenty five until we actually get some solid
- 53:18Speaker 1: evidence that it's not like couers Field two point zero
- 53:22Speaker 1: from a from a just offensive environment perspective. Okay, well,
- 53:28Speaker 1: let's move on to the next transaction, and we've got
- 53:32Speaker 1: another trade. This one broke yesterday and a little bit
- 53:37Speaker 1: of a surprising move considering how long he was locked
- 53:40Speaker 1: up on a long term deal with his former team.
- 53:43Speaker 1: That is, second baseman Andre Seimenez was dealt by the
- 53:48Speaker 1: Guardians to the Blue Jays. It was a three team
- 53:51Speaker 1: deal in which the Blue Jays also got Nick Sandlin
- 53:56Speaker 1: and wait, wait, wait, wait, let me unwind this a
- 54:00Speaker 1: little bit. The Jays get Menez, Nick Sandlin and Spencer
- 54:04Speaker 1: Horwitz went to Pittsburgh, and Nick Mitchell also went out
- 54:08Speaker 1: the door. But the guys that I think to focus
- 54:10Speaker 1: on here in this trade are obviously Jimenez and Horwitz.
- 54:14Speaker 1: First we'll focus on Jimenez here, who's coming off of
- 54:17Speaker 1: his second consecutive thirty steel season. But it was he
- 54:21Speaker 1: backed up in terms of just his overall offensive profile.
- 54:24Speaker 1: You know, you can see it in his Fangrass page
- 54:26Speaker 1: where he was worth positive value from the offensive perspective
- 54:30Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three when he hit two fifty one,
- 54:32Speaker 1: hit two fifty two and twenty twenty four, but like
- 54:35Speaker 1: really backed up in terms of his offensive value because
- 54:39Speaker 1: the home runs dropped off from fifteen to nine, and
- 54:42Speaker 1: so I'm looking.
- 54:43Speaker 2: At his profile.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I was an owner of Andre Semenez in that Auto
- 54:49Speaker 1: New League that we were just talking about here in
- 54:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, and he frustrated me to no end
- 54:54Speaker 1: because the steels were there, the average was where it
- 54:57Speaker 1: used to be, but everything else in terms of the
- 54:59Speaker 1: power profile just never kind of came together, even though
- 55:03Speaker 1: the hard hit percentage was pretty you know, even with
- 55:06Speaker 1: where he was at in twenty twenty three, the barrel
- 55:09Speaker 1: rate did back up a little bit. But maybe it's
- 55:13Speaker 1: just me. I'm not a top one hundred a hitter
- 55:16Speaker 1: writer like you are. That is there something else in
- 55:18Speaker 1: the profile for Andre Semenez where I just am not
- 55:22Speaker 1: seeing like the change because it seems like he should
- 55:24Speaker 1: be able to bounce back to something akin to his
- 55:27Speaker 1: twenty twenty three season when he put up the fifteen
- 55:30Speaker 1: homers and thirty stolen bases.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it comes down to he's just not
- 55:36Speaker 3: a big guy and he just doesn't have much power
- 55:38Speaker 3: like he They're just you know, he's listed on Baseball
- 55:42Speaker 3: SAVATN one sixty one. I'll tell you what, I'm five eleven.
- 55:46Speaker 3: I am far from one six. I've not been one
- 55:48Speaker 3: sixty one since I was in like sixth grade.
- 55:50Speaker 4: So like he is.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Really not the biggest guy, and the only way that
- 55:55Speaker 3: you show power from that is barreling the ball up.
- 55:57Speaker 3: He is in the bottom five percent league barreling the
- 56:00Speaker 3: ball up. He just has really good ability to put
- 56:04Speaker 3: the bat on the ball and spray for those hits.
- 56:07Speaker 3: And so yeah, it's it's it's concerning for me because
- 56:12Speaker 3: he is basically a speed only bats That's really what
- 56:16Speaker 3: you're looking here with Jimenez. And then let's let's go
- 56:20Speaker 3: back to that same data we were just talking about
- 56:22Speaker 3: for a damis and I know I was giving San
- 56:25Speaker 3: Francisco our time. Last year they stole sixty eight bas
- 56:28Speaker 3: as a team, Toronto is only two spots better. They
- 56:31Speaker 3: were fourth worst at seventy two. Now it's because you
- 56:35Speaker 3: guys got like guys like Spencer Horwitz who are like
- 56:38Speaker 3: some of the slowest guys in the league potentially driving that.
- 56:41Speaker 3: But you know where where he's coming from was arguably
- 56:45Speaker 3: a top five team for willingness to run. And so
- 56:49Speaker 3: is he gonna take a step back in there? Maybe
- 56:51Speaker 3: a little bit, But at the end of the day,
- 56:54Speaker 3: there's just not a lot to like from a overall
- 56:57Speaker 3: fantasy profile for Jimenez here. It's very much an empty
- 57:01Speaker 3: profile outside of that speed, and so I'm very much
- 57:05Speaker 3: avoiding him and AZ at this point.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I think that makes sense, and I will
- 57:09Speaker 1: get back to filling out those trade details a little bit,
- 57:11Speaker 1: because I butchered it pretty bad the first time. Because
- 57:13Speaker 1: the first time we'll be trade rumors like post on
- 57:16Speaker 1: just the trade of Jimenez going over didn't have the
- 57:19Speaker 1: full details of the three way trades. So Horwitz ends
- 57:22Speaker 1: up going to Pittsburgh, but Louis Ortiz moves from Pittsburgh
- 57:27Speaker 1: to Cleveland along with Josh Hartele and Michael Kennedy. Let's
- 57:33Speaker 1: focus on Horwitz first, because I think I do want
- 57:36Speaker 1: to also want to talk Louise Hortiz. Both of these
- 57:38Speaker 1: dudes have my heart. I've always I've loved both Horwitz
- 57:42Speaker 1: and Ortiz. They're kind of right up my alley in
- 57:44Speaker 1: terms of what I write about on rezball, like right
- 57:47Speaker 1: on the fringe of our fancy rosters, but like maybe
- 57:50Speaker 1: shouldn't be, like should be elevated to more rosters out there,
- 57:53Speaker 1: And I love this landing spot for Horwitz. Overall, he
- 57:56Speaker 1: came off of a pretty under rated year. I would
- 58:01Speaker 1: say when he actually arrived for the Blue Jays in
- 58:04Speaker 1: ninety seven games, put up a two sixty five three
- 58:07Speaker 1: fifty seven four to thirty three slash line that's a
- 58:10Speaker 1: one twenty seven WRC plus, popped twelve homers with forty
- 58:14Speaker 1: six runs forty RBIs twenty six years old, finally got
- 58:18Speaker 1: his chants like he'd just kind of been buried in
- 58:20Speaker 1: the Toronto system forever. In Pittsburgh, he's the everyday first baseman.
- 58:25Speaker 1: It looks like, and I mean, I think you're looking
- 58:27Speaker 1: at somebody right now. Steamers got him penciled in for
- 58:31Speaker 1: eleven homers and a two sixty seven average. I think
- 58:34Speaker 1: it's light on the power, given he just popped twelve
- 58:37Speaker 1: homers in ninety seven games and has pretty good pull
- 58:41Speaker 1: side like power. He doesn't barrel it a huge amount.
- 58:45Speaker 1: It's a it was at eight percent for his career,
- 58:47Speaker 1: and but he does run into balls when he like
- 58:51Speaker 1: pulls them, just great back to ball contact skills, great
- 58:56Speaker 1: eye walks, and I mean, right now, roster resource has
- 59:01Speaker 1: him hitting fifth in the Pirates lineup. I think it's
- 59:04Speaker 1: very easy for him to move up and be hitting
- 59:06Speaker 1: third or second in this lineup, you know, just a
- 59:09Speaker 1: month in. Because he's a really underrated hitter. I think
- 59:14Speaker 1: he's got a great played approach. And do you think
- 59:17Speaker 1: I'm being too effusive of Spencer Horwitz or do you
- 59:20Speaker 1: think this is this strikes me as a guy who
- 59:23Speaker 1: you take him late in a draft, put him at
- 59:25Speaker 1: your CI he's gonna, like I think, maybe possibly just
- 59:30Speaker 1: win you a league or two because he's just gonna
- 59:33Speaker 1: quietly put up something akin to like a twenty homer
- 59:37Speaker 1: eighty eighty season with a two sixty five batting average,
- 59:39Speaker 1: and when you look up, it's gonna outstrip a lot
- 59:42Speaker 1: of the other options that you had at corner infield.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I mean, I think you're hitting pretty close there is
- 59:47Speaker 3: that Horwitz is not your first pick for anything. But
- 59:52Speaker 3: it's like if you were to build like a ProArt
- 59:54Speaker 3: typical corner infielder for our fantasy game, it probably would
- 59:57Speaker 3: be Spencer Horwitz. Like he could hit for a respectable average,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: he can hit for respectable power, and he's gonna play
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: every day. Like that's kind of your prototypical corner infielder
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: that you're looking for. And when he went to Cleveland.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: I was like, I don't know how much he's gonna play.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Is he gonna play all the time? And then clearly
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: saw that Cleveland had something up their sleeves and flopping
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: over Pittsburgh and probably got the best of both worlds
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: and this deal by shutting them in as a contract
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: and getting some nice little prospects back. So I'm interested
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: in him on the In the later portions of the draft,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: I don't want to spend a whole lot on Horwitz,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: and I also don't want to give up the opportunity
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: with something to upside to obtain him. But when I
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: when you're sitting there on the towards the end of
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: the draft and you just sitting there like there's not
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: a whole lot out there with upside, or I'm looking
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: at guys that are injured or you know, trying to
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: make their find a roster spot or break into a lineup,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: Horowitz is gonna be a surefire thing to play.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: And that's that's what I like about him. So I'm
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: not incredibly high on it. I think I do agree
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: that there the projections are a little short in his power.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I think he's more about fifteen Homer bat over this
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: course of the season, get a little luck and see
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: twenty wouldn't be.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: A big shock.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: But at the same time, he's he's not gonna light
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: anything on fire. And I don't see him being like
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: your starting first baseman, uh in your fancy line of Peter.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I also I over he's going to qualify at
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: second base.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: He put up almost forty games there last year, thirty
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: seven starts, thirty nine total games. So that's another added
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: bonus with Horwitz going forward. Let's talk Louis Ortiz a
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: little bit. I've always been in love with Louis Ortiz's sinker.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: He really struggled to keep it in the zone, and
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: last year started improving in that.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: In that aspect, you know.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: The overall zone percentage went up from like a career
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: forty seven percent to a fifty four percent. The walk
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: rate just about had from a career level previous of
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: just a shade over five to two point eight walks
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: per nine last year. Did do it like a mix
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: of relieving follower following an opener doing starting himself only
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: twenty five years old. I think I'm gonna end up
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: with some shares. Louis Ortiz, just because I'm betting on
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: if there's any organization that I can trust to to
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: revitalize Louis Artis give him better pitching instruction, Cleveland Guardians
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: might be just about number one on that list.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I love this landing spot for Louis Artiz. What about you?
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I like the landing spot.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: But I also don't know that I see Louis Ortiz
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: as a starting pitcher. I think that's that's really my downfall.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: His performance has always been better as a reliever. He's
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: doesn't have the same strikeout upside unless they really get
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: a Picksmiths pitch mix change. Say that three times fast,
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: and so I'm probably he's on my watch list in Treean.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: He's the kind of guy said like in the spring training,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: does something look different or are you getting some reports
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: in the off season that he's really focusing on a
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: certain pitch or something like that. I think That's what
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: I'd be watching for our tees. But this is one
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: of those ones that if he ends up on somebody
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: else's team, he breaks out. I'm not gonna give it
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: a second thought. I'm not too too concerned that I
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: missed out on something great. I think you're right. It's
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: like there's a lot of talent, but it doesn't seem
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: to be close to being put together. If somebody's gonna
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: do it, it's gonna be like Cleveland, Tampa Bay, maybe Houston.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: There's a very few teams that could probably do it.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: So it is a great landing spot for him. But
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I don't want to over index to that.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I am. I think that's fair. True.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: All right, let's move on to our next transaction. We're
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: just about we're getting through it, but.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: We've still got to only seventy five more transactions.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Yes, and so next one is we have the Dodgers
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: sign Michael Conforto to a one year deal.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Who.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I feel like I've been saying this a lot on
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: these kind of recent dudes, but I was surprised to
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: see Michael Conforto's line by the end of the year
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: here where he ended up putting up twenty homers for
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: the Giants. It was a rough batting average at two
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: thirty seven, but I mean that's kind of who Confordo
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: is given just his overall approach with the high strikeouts
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: and the fly balls. But now he's not in San Francisco.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: He's in LA. He should open the season as the
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: as the starting left fielder for the Dodgers, So fantastic
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: landing spot one year, make a good deal for him
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: going into his age thirty two season. This feels like
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: somebody who is kind of in line for a huge season. Maybe,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: I think in terms of what Conforto's like put up
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: last year and like didn't, I don't think the Giants
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: necessarily totally understood how to use him. But I have
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: a lot more faith in what the Dodgers can do
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: with Conforto going forward.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: What do you think think I I'm not quite there.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: I think, uh, I think this is a better spot
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: for him to question Dan San Francisco. But it's been
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: almost five years now that since Conforto really seemed to
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: be a force to plate with his power with a
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: respectable enough average that it's really been something like, yes,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: I'm excited about if he hits twenty five.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Homers next year.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: You know, he's I feel like they're trying to put
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: it in taoskar Handanda's profile, but he doesn't have the
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: same qu quite skill set. But I think what's the
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: biggest thing for me is that they gave him a
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: massive one year deal just so that it was only
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: one year deal. And I think people are gonna look
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: at the Dodgers. They're gonna look at the lineup, and
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: they'rena look at those dollars and they're gonna go the
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Dodgers know something nobody else does. And he's a thirty
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: homer guy, one hundred RBI guy. He's gonna get hit
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: two sixty. I think that's what people are gonna think,
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: and they're gonna draft him like that. And that's why
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: for me, like don't, I don't. I wouldn't be shocked
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: to see him do twenty maybe twenty five homers, hit
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: two forty and have eighty RBIs and seventy five runs,
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: which is still valuable. But I think people are gonna
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: buy him for like ten to twenty percent higher than that, just.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: Because of the deal he signed. And it's the Dodgers.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: And I mean, if if you're gonna go bold predictions,
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: I wouldn't be shocked if Quinforto isn't playing every day
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: at the end of the season because the Dodgers have
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: to win, and if he doesn't come out of the
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: gates like firing all cylinders seventeen million or whatever for
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Conforto for the Dodgers is like, well, we sun costs,
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: we'll move on, whereas every other organizations.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: Like we've got to we've got to get this figured out.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: So like there's just these weird little red flags and
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: it's not in his profile or something like that. It's
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: just I just think the helium is gonna be more
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: than I'm willing to bargain for. And I I feel
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: like I've played this game with Kumforto before and it
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: just seems that they get dragged back in, dragged back in,
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: and I'm just not doing it again this year.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: That might be the This might be like the first
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: time we flopped on Kofore because he was being Koforeo guy.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I think I am now just that that eleven point
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: eight percent barrel rate that he put up last year
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: is going to play so much better in LA that
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I think there's a there's a decent amount of juice
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: in there.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Okay, let's move on to the next signing.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: And this is another goofy went. I don't even know
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: totally what to do with this one, but we have
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Clay Holmes moving to the New York Mets on a
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: three year, thirty eight million dollar deal to be a
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: starting pitcher. And so Clay Holmes has not been a
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: starting pitcher since his days back in Pittsburgh his first
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: year when he came up and the results were, I
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: mean not great back then, but you know, he was
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: just kind of learning the way and you know, morphed
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: his way into the semi dependable reliever he was and
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: over that stretch for the Yankees until it really unraveled
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: last year. But are you getting in on this kind
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: of trend after seeing you know, Reynaldo Lopez do this,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: you know, move from the bullpen to starting. We had
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Sef Lugo before that. There's lots of players that this
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: has been working out for. Do you think Clay Holmes
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: is the next one that it does work out for?
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: In Queen's.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: I think it's a bituer definition of work out for Like,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I think he can do it.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: I think he can. He has three legitimate pitches in
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: his sinkers, slider, and his sweeper. That what what worries.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Me is he doesn't have a fastball like to play off,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: which I know that you know that that fastball really
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: ends up being his his his sinker, which plays much
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: more like like a fastball, and so I think that
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: he can do. Is he gonna be incredible? No, But
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: I think to your point, like a Seth Lugo type
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: comp of like a serviceable guy that's kind of middled
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: the rotation and might look really good here and there.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: I think is reasonable.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: I'm just I have a hard time jumping up and
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: down for this one because Holmes was kind of already
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: teetering as a reliever. I was like he was already
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: I was already kind of stepping back from him as
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: the skills seem to kind of degrade compared to twenty
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: twenty three and even twenty twenty two. So I think
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: it's interesting. I think it's gonna be an experiment. But
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: at the I think the thing is the Mets don't
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: have a whole lot of other pictures, so I think
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: they had to do something like this rather than try
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: to bring Manya back or Severino you know, you know,
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: Oakland Athletics money, because who the Mets clearly didn't have
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: that kind of money laying around. So I'm lukewarm on
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: play Holmes. I'm probably gonna sit on the sideline of
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: acquiring him. It's just not a ballgame. I feel there's
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: enough upside to play. Is really where I would be,
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: you know, scared. You told me that the Cardinal's going
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: to turn Ryan Helsley into a starter.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: Sign me up. I'm playing that.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: I'm going to the roulette table with that one, and
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: I'm trying it out because if that works, we're all
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: We're all, you know, thrilled with that. That's just not
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: what Clay Holmes is.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. I think I'm in
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: the same boat.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: I kind of want to see it work for a
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: little bit and then, I mean, I think he's going
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: to be somebody who probably matriculates to my waiver wire piece.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Especially when you're getting like two start weeks from him
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: and stuff, you'll probably start rolling those dice. But I
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: want to see it in action a little bit more
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: than you know he did, like you said, without that
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: fastball to eye on, it's going to be interesting to
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: see how he gets by. Okay, well, we've got another
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: signing of a reliever who's gonna stick as being a reliever.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: It looks like that is Jordan Romano going to Philadelphia
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: on a one year eight and a half million dollar deal,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: which is kind of funny because in arbitration for the
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Blue Jays he was projected to make like seven point
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: seventy five million dollars. So it seems like a little
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: bit of like a fumble from the Toronto front office
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: perspective in terms of not gauging the market for Romano
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: correctly that it seems pretty obvious that they could have
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: let that arbitration case happen and then flip Romano for
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: something anything, instead of just letting him walk When we
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: talked about him being non tendered last week. Now we
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: compared him last week to Kyle Finnegan, who was also
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: non tendered. But it looks like the Phillies have some
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: faith in Romano going forward. Obviously it all boils down
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: to health here, but if he can settle in as
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: the closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, you could be at
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: a pretty monster year considering how good that team is.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Do you think it's doable or do you think that
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: the health concerns plus maybe the degradation of skills from
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: those health concerns leads to the Phillies kind of going
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: a different route in their bullpen as they still have
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: the likes of Jose Alvarado, Ryan Kirkering nat Strom even
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: like Jose, Ruise has seen a little bit of closing
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: time here and there. So you've got a big mix
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: of bullpen arms and do you think Romano can conquer
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: them all.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: I'm not convinced he can. And I like Jordan Romano's
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: as much as the next guy. I love him in Toronto.
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: I think the health was a concern. I think the
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: skills were starting to take a step back with those
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: health concerns. And I don't know that he ever like
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: truly got fixed from a health respective.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: He just rested a lot, which is could be.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: Good, but that means whatever was going on it might
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: still be there. And there's enough firepower in the rest
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: of that Philly's bullpen that they didn't pay him like
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: they have to have him be a closer. He got
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: one year seven million. They're not in that's that's actually
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: not a bad deal for like a seventh neen guy.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: And so like, if I'm throwing money at this bullpen,
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm throwing my money on Alvarado and Kirkery,
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: Like that's probably where I'd throw my money in that
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: bullpen right now because they I don't think they can
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: rely on a guy like Romano who has so many question.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Marks coming out of the gate.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: And if that's the case, those other two Alvarado's like
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: always been the conversation as a closer in Philly.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: They just don't want to do it, which is fine.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: It makes sense.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: He is a little bit of Craig Kimberl Like that's like,
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: that's not a compliment. By the way, from a roller
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: coaster perspective, I think kirkera in long term should be
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: the closer there. So I'm I'm stick steering relatively clear
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: of Romana unless I'm getting them for pennies on the
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: dollar and then I'll play that roulette whel.
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: And see what happens.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: How about you, You seem to be a lot more excited
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: about Romano in Philadelphia or is that just me reading
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: the room wrong because you may have picked him up
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: in a league hoping to run to a closer.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's mostly what it was. It was
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: just like, man, yeah, this auditory league's coming up in
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: a lot. But yeah, especially in that format, trying to
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: find a closer is near impossible.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: So it's just.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Kind of you know, playing roulette with my roster spot there.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: That that's the only reason that, yeah, I am not
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: pursuing Romano in any sort of capacity unless it's like
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: a I've got the ability to cut bait pretty quickly
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: or you know, stash him on an eel spot or
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: something like that. That I just, I just it was
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: such a litany of elbow injuries. I just don't think
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Mono's gonna make it back fully next year. That it
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: seems like a longer term issue than even what he
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: kind of got cleaned up with surgery. So yeah, I mean,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: I guess speaking of injured pitchers, the next signing we
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: have is a one year, fifteen million dollar deal for
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: the thirty seven year old Alex Cobb in Detroit. Came
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: off of only sixteen and third innings last season in
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, left his playoff start injured for the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Guardians when he was pitching in Yankee Stadium. Nice landing
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: spot with the with the stadium in Detroit. Great division
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: to pitch in yay Orna here on Alex Cobb and
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: just kind of being a really back in cheap starting
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: pitcher for twenty twenty five.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: I think you defined it correctly back in cheap starting
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: pitcher that I don't plan to play with, Like you know,
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: there's just not enough there to make it worth the risk.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: Like COB's not gonna show up and throw a shutout
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: and strike out ten guys.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: It's not gonna happen.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Detroit seems to be figuring things out from like a
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: pitching factory perspective, which I do like. And so am
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: I banking on a recovery from the last few years.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Maybe a little, But he did just come from San
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: fran two years ago and the results were not like thrilling.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: They were kind of middle of the road, and so yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: it's it's interesting. Maybe he's he's a really good streamer.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: It's kind of where I would see it, and I'm
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: willing to kind of play against a bad offense, But uh,
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: we's he's getting up there, he's gonna in this Age
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: thirty seventh season, and he umassed a whole sixty innings
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: last year. So I'm I'm steering clear here, and I
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: wouldn't be surprised if we weren't talking about Alex Cobb
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: at all coming twenty twenty six. Like I just I
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: think that he's on his last legs or last arm?
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: Is that more a technical term for him?
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think the last arm went a
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: while ago, but yeah, well I think that, Yeah, certainly,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna kill you if he's like
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: the last picture you put on your roster, if there's
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: nothing else out there, but yeah, it'll be something where
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: we'll see how he kind of comes out the gate
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: in Detroit. And yeah, if that wasn't a deep enough
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: cut of a transaction, we still got more because this
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: is I think where we shine. This next one, though,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I think is gonna be a really sneaky play kind
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: of especially as we are into the season of drafts
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: where you're doing Draft Champions and Gladiator drafts where you're
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: just kind of really going for super deep moves. And
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: that is Mike Taukman outfielders signing a one year deal
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: with the Chicago White Sox roster. Resource has since slotted
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: as the leadoff hitter for the White Sox right now,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: and the thirty four year old is coming off of
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: a pretty solid season with the Chicago Cubs in which
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: he had a one eleven WRC plus two forty eight average,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: seven homer six stolen bases in three hundred and fifty
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: plate appearances. This entire profile is booed by a career
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: thirteen percent walk rate, pride of Palatine, Illinois, pride of
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: your alma mater, Bradley University. So I know that you're
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: in on this deal, but I mean, right like this
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: is this is the type of player who does sneakily
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: win you fantasy leagues in super deep leagues, because like
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: it's not even kind of in his Steamer profile right now,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: because I don't think they're picking up that. Honestly, he
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: should probably end up hitting leadoff for the White Sox
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: next year with that walk rate, and if he sticks,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: you're looking at somebody who's gonna kind of like trot
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: into ninety runs kind of like really randomly and can
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: really any even in a twelve team league.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: I think he might be playable as a fifth outfielder or.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Am I just kind of like getting too hyped on
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: the playing time aspect here because that's kind of like
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: my lane as a waiver wire writer.
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think that he is one of
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: those that you're not you don't plan for him to
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: be your fifthfielder, but you're not really just poring if
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: he ends up having to be, because it's not hard
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: to squint and be like he's just never gotten full
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: playing time. And you know, for him to run into
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: a fifteen to fifteen season to your point with maybe
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: ninety runs and sixty five RBI hitting too fifty two sixty, like,
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: it's not that far out of the question, And that's
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: not that's not something you want to like invest in
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: as like the target. But if you're saying, like I've
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: got my team and I'm looking for like bench guys
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: to just kind of fill in the holes and if
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: something happens, like I just where I think talking fits in.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: And I think he's obviously gonna drive owners batting next
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: year because he's gonna always be in that like, man,
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: he looks really good. He had a good week, and
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: then he plays for the White Sox and he's he's
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: gonna have like a bad week and we have a
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: bad week for the White Sox. Especially a guy like
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: him that can get on base, he still doesn't score runs.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: He says, nothing happens, So I think he's gonna drive
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: folks a little bit.
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: BADDI.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: You're gonna talk about him all year, next year the
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: waiver wire, that's for sure.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's gonna like the value is always going
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: to be there. This is the type of guy where
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: like he's gonna be worth like five to ten bucks
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: in a twelve team league and like that's free money
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: all day long, and like it's hard to realize that.
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: It is. And so, yeah, you're right, do I want
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: my fifth outfielder? No?
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: If if I end up having some issues he is,
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: I'm fine with it like that.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: That's that's why I'll look at him.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Okay, next transaction we have is kind of in the
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: same vein in me being the waiver wire sicco because
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I know this guy is gonna end up there. I
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: think a lot, especially as he gets home stands. And
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: that is Tyro Estrada signing with the Colorado Rockies on
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: a one year, three point twenty five million dollar deal.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: But because the Rockies cut Brendan Rodgers at the non
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: tender deadline, Estrada is walking right into Colorado as the
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: starting second baseman and should be getting like sixth ish
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: in the lineup. Like it's a pretty nice landing spot.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: And obviously you're putting him in Coors Field reminds me
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: a little bit of like what Jerks and Profar went
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: through there, I mean when he was there in twenty
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: twenty three and got cut. But it was still actually
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: usable from a fantasy perspective, just because even if the
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: WRCs plus like sucked, it was in Colorado and usable.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: So what do you think do you think tyro Strada
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: could bounce back to what he put up in twenty
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: twenty three with you know, the twenty three stolen bases
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: and fourteen homers in a two seventy one average that
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: just kind of like win in the tank this past
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: year with his wrist injury, is is he a usable
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: middle infield option walking into twenty twenty five.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: I really struggle with I Strata here, Like if you
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: don't look at his basal savat page, if you have
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: any desire to draft him, because it is dreadful, like
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: he does nothing well from a stack gast perspective, But
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: yet you look at his numbers, like he gets a
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: little power, he can run a little bit, and I
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: I think I fear that the numbers plus Colorado and
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: it's gonna give him this weird helium And I just
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: I just I can't play the ball game there.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: I just can't see it.
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: I just I just don't think there's enough potential upside.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: There, even with the Colorado factors.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: So I think it's gonna be fun to watch because
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: I do think that people are like that because he
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: was so valuable for folks for like a year, year
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: and a half, and I think people are like, oh,
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: he's going to Colorado. It's Estrada's back maybe, Like I
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: don't think it's gonna happen. And I again, it's one
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: of those rides that I'm willing to sit on the
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: sideline and watch rather than you know, go through the
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: turmoil of playing the home versus away games and things
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: like that. So yeah, it's it's it's interesting, it's like exciting.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: You see the headline, like, man, maybe there's something here,
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: and then I start to dig into him, like even
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: if there's something here, I just I just it doesn't
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: feel right. It doesn't feel right. I can see it working.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: One time out of ten is kind of my problem.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm the type of dude who will take that
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: chance on the one time out of ten. So I
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: actually I think I will end up with a decent
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: amount of shares with Strata, but like as a bench
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: like ad in the reserves, and like I'm not going
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: to be paying any kind of real draft capital for him,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: But like with my last pick, I'm gonna take a
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: dart throw at this type of player every time. Somebody
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: who can give me, you know, the upside of twenty
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: five stolen bases and playing in Colorado. Yeah, that's this
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: is the type of player I love eating up in fantasy.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: So welcome to the Waiver Wire weekly write up. Mike Tauchman,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: Alex Cobb, Tyrostrata. I look forward to meeting you all
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: next summer, and this next guy I think will be
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: there too, because if you go into the player tag
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: on Rasbald he is we are the only people who
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: have written about him. He's come up three times. He
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: came up first in our episode fifty of this very
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: podcast back in June. He was a Rule five pick.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Our boy, Cooper Bowman is on the Cincinnati reds Now
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: moving from the Athletics to the Reds. I also bring
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: him up as like out of the all the Rule
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: five talk because the Rule five draft didn't really have
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: too much happen in this year that was too exciting
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: outside of Cooper Bowman, who you know.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: We highlighted the package that he put together.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: In twenty twenty four in Triple A for the A's
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: there well and in Double A in Double AS where
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: he did most of his work in one hundred and
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: eighteen total games, so wiped forty three bags, hit twelve homers,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: and when he was in Double A hit two eighty one.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: It certainly fell off a cliff a little bit in
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: Triple A when he went down to eight team over
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty two played appearances, but those forty
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: three bags moving to Cincinnati decent shot at playing time.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Roster resource actually has him in the short side of
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: a platoon right now, so.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: We could be.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Looking at Cooper Bowman, starting player for the Cincinnati Reds. A.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Is this a really fringy guy that you're going to
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: be buying in and maybe investing any darts on?
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: I like Cooper Bowman, like he's the kind of guy
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: like first of all Triple A numbers, he had thirty
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: eight games at Triple A and it was his first
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: taste of Triple A. He had two prior sins at
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: Double A and the first one was at a little
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: more rocky. Second one, you know, works without like he
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: was just adjusting and he will have to adjust to
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: major league gidding. But there was not much left for
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: him to prove in the minors and he was a
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: little bit unlucky in Triple A and he has played approach,
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: he was pressing a little bit, and then he gets
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: to go play in the band Ox and Cincinnati, Like,
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: I I really really like this. He to me is
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: uh could be a two seventy hitter. He absolutely like
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: he's like a Jonathan India with a little bit more speed.
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Like I think he absolutely could be break that lineup,
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: And you know, folks just keep looking at him like
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: why is.
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: This guy playing over Cees? Why?
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: Why is why is he you know, stealing time from
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: Matt McClain, Like, I don't think it's that far out
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: of out of reason for that to happen. And again
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: that that lineup to be playing in, there's just no
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: pressure for him and he's gonna be a little Swiss
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: Army Knight for him. So I'm definitely, especially in deep leagues,
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: I might throw a dart at a Cooper Bowman because
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: there's enough injuries that have happened in that Reds Reds lineup,
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: So yeah, nobody else is probably gonna be talking about him.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: I like him.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: I think he's got a lot of potential. He actually
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: has some good pedigree. He was drafted as a as
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: a fourth rounder out of Louisville, so there, there's talent here.
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: It's just not a guy.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: He's the kind of guy that gives results, not highlights.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: And there's a lot to be said for those kind
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: of guys. So don't take this as like he's a
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: top ten draft pick. But he is absolutely a guy
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: that if you're just not sure what to do late
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: in the draft, or you've got those deep leagues forty
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: man roster or something like that, there's way worse dart
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: throws than Cooper Bowman for a guy that is guaranteed
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: to be on the roster because he was drafted in
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: the Rule five draft, he has to be.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: That's the rules.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, Well there we go. I finally filled up
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: that random back end of your roster with one dude.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I finally did it, So yeah, we believe in you. Okay,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: let's get into a little bit of card news because
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: we've got a little bit of a shuffling of the
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: calendars that we've been talking about, and then we will
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: obviously take a little bit of a break and come
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: back with our.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: Selections for those PC picks.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: But we've got as we are speaking on the eleventh here.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: TOPS Brooklyn Collection came out today. Yesterday we had the
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: dropping of TOPS Chrome Sapphire Update. TOPS Definitive was supposed
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: to be out today and I checked. I think it's
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: still delayed. That it's kind of a this happens sometimes
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: with the TOPS like production and shipping system, especially when
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: we get this log jam of releases the way we
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: kind of have over the past month, where like just
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: things don't show up at card shops and people don't
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: fully know like when they will. It's kind of an
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: interesting dynamic of the whole kind of hobby that if
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: you ever get into your local card shop and start
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: talking to the owner, I can't imagine trying to run
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: a business like this, like things just kind of randomly
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: show up from TOPS at times. And so it does
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: look like Definitive is delayed, but should be hitting shelves soon.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Tanini Prism was supposed to come out here on this Friday,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: on the thirteenth of December, but also looks like it's
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: delayed too. It actually was supposed to be slotted for
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: like a July release this past summer and it's just
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: really gone awry there.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: But we have Triple.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Threads coming out on the nineteenth Bowmen's Best still coming
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: out in the twenty seventh TBD on Tops Luminaries, and
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: TBD on Tops black and White. So if you're looking
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: on maybe a quick overview of some of those sets,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I would check out our pod from last week in
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: episode sixty nine, where we touched on a few of these.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: But that's just kind of an update for the schedule
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: that I wanted to post here in the News and Notes.
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: But like I said, we're gonna take a quick break,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: come back with us PC picks from the Awards winners
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: and Hall of Fame inductees, So stick around, all right,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: Welcome back, everybody. We are going to get into our
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: picks to add to our personal collection our PC of
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: some cards from the twenty twenty four Awards winner, so
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: we're looking at MVP cy Young Rookie of the Year,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: plus we're also going to add in cards for the
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: two most recent Hall of Fame inductees that were put
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: into the hall this past week in Dick.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: Allen and Dave Parker.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: So this, I think has become one of our favorite
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: kind of segments of this podcast overall that we started
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: this year with going back each month and putting in
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: cards to this PC that we're building of picking some
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: just cool cards of these players across all price levels
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: that you know, we've been picking your normal rookie cards
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: all the way up to one of one relics that
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: neither of us will ever come close to sniffing and
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: touching because they're worth you know, six digits. It's a
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: fun exercise, I think, and we've been doing it each
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: month for the awards winners of that month in terms
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: of the hitter, the pitcher, the rookie, sometimes the reliever
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: if we didn't feel like repeating. We do have some
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: repeats here obviously because these award winners won monthly awards
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: throughout the year. But the nice thing is these players
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: also have lots of cards out there, so it's it's
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: really fun to kind of look at what's available and
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: go through and just kind of bask in the glow
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: of these excellent, excellent cards. So I think we're just
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: gonna dive right into it that we're gonna kick.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: It off with the al MVP.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Obviously that was Aaron Judge this past year, coming off
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: of an absolutely historic year with a two to eighteen
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: WRC plus slash three twenty two four fifty eight seven
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: oh one good for eleven point two war fifty eight homers,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: one hundred and forty four RBI. So we've already got
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: five cards in our PC for Aaron Judge between we
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: also did this exercise last winter for the first round,
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: and he was Player of the Month twice in twenty
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: twenty four, so these will be our six and seventh picks.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: We've got a pretty deep Aaron Judge PC going on
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: this podcast, So I'm gonna kick it over you Brew,
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: what card are you putting in here for to commemorate
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: his twenty twenty four n NOL.
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: Al AVP MVP.
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: Well, the good news for us is Aaron Judge has
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: a lot of cards, so there's a lot of options,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: and I, you know, recognizing the MVP, like I wanted
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: to go big or go home, uh with with my
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Iron Judge selections. So I'm going with a classic and
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: a series that I absolutely love own very very little
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: of based on the price point.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: But that's Tops Dynasty.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: I'm going with his twenty twenty Tops Dynasty on card
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: auto game used patch logo man one of one.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: Now let's be serious.
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: These are twenty twenty type cards, so the patches from
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: some unknown event at some point in time.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: But still it is.
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: Absolutely when I when I think of Yankees cards, I
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: don't get excited for like the shiny cards. I don't
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: get excited for all the refractors and things unless it's
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: a black refractor that it really works.
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: But there's something about this card that.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: Just you know, the Yankees, like the nostalgia of the Yankees.
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: I think of Monument Village out there, like it's it's
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: really about the history, and this card just you know,
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: speaks to me of like classic design. It's got the
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: kind of Sepia kind of look to it. And to
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: get an on card auto of Aaron Judge is is
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: really really something else? So you know, if you're interested,
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: is on eBay. By the time the pod gets out there,
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: it might have ended. I apologize. It's only got twenty
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: two hours left at forty three thousand dollars. If you
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: are interested, maybe you can make an offer on it
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: since it doesn't have any bids right now. But it
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: is just an absolute, absolute beautiful card in my opinion.
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: So it's it's it's not the value of the card,
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: it's just this is such a classic to me.
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: Yankees.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Look, yes, exactly, this is a fantastic card that you
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: found here. And I guess I also should have explained
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: in the intro that you can go to rasball dot
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: com see pictures of all these cards in one spot
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: for the corresponding post. But also you can check out
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: the show notes here in wherever you're listening to this
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: pod and see the link that will go to both
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: rasball dot com or if you want to see the
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: individual links to these eBay listings that we're discussing. Great
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: pick actually our first dynasty card in the in the PC,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: which is kind of interesting considering some of the high
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: end stuff that we've been picking here and there. I
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: also it's a goofy card because it makes Aaron Judge
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: look dead. Like the black and white nature. It just
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: kind of makes it look like he's passed and memorializes him.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: But because of that, I think that's what adds to
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: the gravitas of it of that kind of Yankees lure
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: that you're talking about such a clean card with the
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: with the black and white logo man on it too.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: It's yeah, it is a butte man. This is if
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: you are going to invest in a non rookie card
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: kind of like or patch Jumbo patch auto of Aaron Judge,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: this is you can't do much better than this one.
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: No, you can't.
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: And this is like this is a centerpiece of a
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: collection type of card and that's that's that's the beauty
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: of it.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: So how about you, where did you go?
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: Did you go quite as high end as a forty
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: thousand dollars card you or did you back this one
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: off a little bit?
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: No?
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: I did peel back a little bit, mostly because I
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: did some I didn't necessarily realize that this card kind
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: of like existed in this form as a short print,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: and that is Aaron Judge's twenty seventeen rookie card number
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: two fourteen. It is a short print because this is
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: also just a great reminder of like where Aaron Judge
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: has risen from and you can see it a little
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: bit like in terms of if you go to TCDB,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: which is Trading card database TCDB dot com. That's how
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: we do a lot of this research too, is just
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: kind of going through the collections of all the players
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: and seeing what's even available. The early years of Aaron
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Judge's career, he kind of had like a token card
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: in every set because he was a first round pick
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: by the New York Yankees, and like that will get
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: you a card in Bowman every year, but there wasn't
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: much else. In twenty seventeen, his rookie year, things went
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: through the roof and you can see it. There's hundreds
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: and hundreds and hundreds of Aaron Judge rookie cards. But
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: further proof of like where he came from. His Top
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Heritage base card was a shared card with Tyler.
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: Wells, like Tyler Austin, Tyler.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Austin, Sorry my bad, Tyler Wells is the picture for
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: the Orioles.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: But like that's that's how far he's come.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: Like he was on a shared rookie card in Tops Heritage,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: which is kind of reserved for the roster fodder, the
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: back end of everybody's roster. His standalone Tops Heritage Rookie
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: card number two fourteen is actually a short print that
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: they made a short print version of it where it's
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: just Aaron Judge. It's a beautiful design on the twenty
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: seventeen Heritage with the you know, just like it's well
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: centered up too. In terms of the picture of Aaron Judge,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: you get the Aaron young Aaron Judge with the huge
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: gap to smile. Just a great shot of him. And
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: it harkens back to kind of like the Mantle and
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Harris Merris cards that used to be in this design too.
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: So I love it. I think it's a great card.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Also pretty affordable.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: You can get it somewhere between like forty to sixty bucks,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: so even though it's a short print, it's not like
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: an unaffordable short print.
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and I always love a card with a good border,
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: and this definitely has it. Definitely frames the card, and
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: when you're looking for something of quality, it's it's easy
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: to kind of pick out something that's well centered and
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: it really stands out. This is almost one of those cards.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: It might look better in black and white. There isn't
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: a variation that I'm aware of in black and white,
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: but it is a really really great card to your point, Like,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: it's just they did a great job with that Heritage
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: photo of like the the old stock photo of just
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: the player posing, which we never get anywhere outside of heritage,
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: and it's it's a really it's a really good one.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: And I think you make a very good point, like
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: the only way you got this was to make a
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: variation for for Aaron Judge. Otherwise you've got to look
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: at Tyler A. Austin on the rookie card and that's
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: probably going to be a drawback because very rarely in
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: those heritage cards, even back in the day, some of
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: those tops designs, did you get like multiple players on
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: the card that they all hit? Those are the big
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: ones and there's very few of.
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: Those, Yes, exactly.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's move over to the National League in
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: the MVP, putting up the first fifty to fifty season
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: of all time, that is the one and only sho
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Heyo Tani coming off of a season where he put
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: up nine point one fangrass war one eighty one WRC
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: plus hit three ten three ninety six forty six with
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: fifty four homers, fifty nine stolen bases, and won the
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: World Series as well, and just cementing his position as
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: the greatest peak baseball player of all time. That, like,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: I don't think there's anything at this point that's gonna
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: push anybody past that level. That like Shoho Tani is
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: modern day Babe Ruth, his prices in the market reflect that.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: From baseball card perspective, only one one Player of the
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: month in twenty twenty four, So he only has three
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: cards in our PC, which leaves us open to thousands
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: of cards still, because even though the market is hot
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: for Shoyotani, there's tons of cards out there, and so
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: being able to bob and we even find what kind
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: of works best for your collection is very doable out there.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: So what card are you picking to make our fourth show?
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: Hey?
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: O tany card and our PC?
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: Yeah, so I wanted to go back.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I was kind of looking for the rookie card
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: because that's why I want to have the rookie card
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: in the PC, and so I went with a quasi
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: rookie card doesn't actually have the Rookie card, uh you
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: know logo on there. But we're talking about twenty eighteen,
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: uh Bowman's best Atomic refractor auto out of ten with
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: Mike Trout. And this also gives me the opportunity to
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: sneak Mike Trout auto into the PC, which I've been
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: wanting for some time, and so which better way to
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: do it than pair it up with Otani. And I
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: have such mixed feelings of doing that because like that
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: was like the the duo of you know, this is
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: like uh Lou gerg and Joe DiMaggio or something like that.
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: As far as having both on the card but then
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: having them on a team that couldn't win to save
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: their lives. It's just such an interesting like the two
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: of the greatest players of their generation to your point,
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: like maybe of all time. So having them on the
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: same card in Otani's rookie year with the the on
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: card autos is just unbelievable. And you add in the
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: atomic aspect of this. Atomic has always been just a
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: great type of design. So I went ultra high end
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: here because I really wanted the dual auto nature of it.
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: I almost went a little further and there, you know,
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: went for maybe an Otani Trout Pooholes auto, but I
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: just the cardinal homer me just couldn't do it with
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: the Pooholes in the Angels Jersey, So I had to
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: back things off just a little bit and go with
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: the Trout Otwi Auto here so love the card.
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: We'll never own it.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going on eBay for a cool one hundred
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: and twenty five and fifty dollars you know that extra
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty you know, not a straight round number. Beautiful,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: beautiful card Otani old Auto because it's back from like
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: his rookie year. Even Mike Trout looks baby faced on
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: this card. That it's kind of crazy how much both
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: of them have changed since twenty eighteen in terms.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: Of just like what you recognize as being then.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: But yeah, you're you're, you're in a high end streak
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: here tonight.
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: You're I started high end today. And for the MVPs,
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: that's only right for Otani that was a point zero
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: zero zeros zero zeros year, zero two percent of his salary.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, jump changed for Mizuhara too, if he pay
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: wants to get in on this card.
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: Okay, Well for me, I had to go back to Japan.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: We hadn't put any Japanese show Heyo Tani cards in
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: here yet, and his rookie cards from Japan came out
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen. There's a handful of them, you know,
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: It's not anywhere near as prolific as we get stateside
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: from the rookie card perspective over in Japan. So much
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: shorter supply over in Japan in terms of like number
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: of rookies and everything out there, as well as you
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: had to go through the process of either bringing these
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: cards over from Japan at some point in time, or
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: if you want to buy one of these cards, you're
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: gonna have to bring it over from Japan yourself. So
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: there's obviously that aspect of getting things shipped over. And
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with his twenty thirteen BBM he codoed
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Nipon Hand Fighters F eighty three rookie card, mostly because,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: like it's just a great squared up picture of little
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: Baby Otani pitching and you get to see him in
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: just kind of like all of his glory of the
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: nipone Hand Fighters gear with how much do you want
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: a turtleneck with your last name stitched into it the
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: way this card has with Otani stitched into his little
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: turtle neck underneath it.
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: Little baby show Hey.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: I think this is like one of my favorite cards
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: of his from over in Japan, just because like it's
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: got the rookie aspect, it's got like a I also
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: just kind of like the Japanese designs that are just
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: kind of it's it reminds me of like those classic
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: cards back in the nineties. You remember those sets where
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: it's like, yep, it feels like it's a knockoff card,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: but it's not a knockoff card, just because like there's
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: something about the design moment where it's not in the
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: same kind of vein of everything else we get from
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: tops and fanatics, so it mixes it up a little bit.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I like it, and so that's the card that I'm
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: picking to put in for Shohyo Tani's MVP here for
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: our PC.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: You know, I have a soft spot for the Japanese
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: BBM cards. I think it's a great call out, and
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: I also think it's just an underappreciated card.
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: At the at the end of the day.
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: Folks don't quite I want to go across the pond
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: and start getting some of those Japanese cards. Some collectors
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: love them, but the thing is, you just don't see
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: these stateside. You just don't see these cards. So why
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: do you think it's a hallmark part of any Otani collection?
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: I know, as it a tiny collector yourself. You would
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: absolutely love to have something like this dangling in that collection.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think this is kind of like.
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: The next card that I look to add to my
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: O Tani collection will be a twenty thirteen BBM card.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: And I mean this one it's even in a PSA ten,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: the one I'm looking at. It went for four hundred
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: bucks recently in action, so not unaffordable compared to what
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: a PSA ten of some of his like tops rookie
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: cards will run you nowadays. That it's kind of crazy
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: that I also think that a lot of these Japanese
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: cards are still undervalued for Otani. It's like the one
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: area where I think there is more gain to happen
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: in that market as a to lots of other areas
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: for his rookie cards are pretty maxed out, I think
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: at this point. But the Japanese cards surprisingly still affordable
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: in comparison to any of the state side stuff. Okay, well,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: let's move on to some pitchers. So we have winning
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: the cy Young this year in the American League to
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: Reek Schooble, who went eighteen and four over one hundred
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: and ninety two one hundred and ninety two innings with
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: a two thirty nine ra put up two hundred and
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: twenty eight strikeouts, was lights out all year and surprisingly
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: never one pitcher of the month all of twenty twenty
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: four despite pitching to a two thirty nine yar arra
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: racking up eighteen wins. That's just kind of how fickle
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: pitching can be over like a thirty day stretch. And
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: it's really amazing to be able to go through an
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: entire season win a say young never win one of
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: the pitcher of the months for your league. So this
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: is the first time we get to induct any to
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: reak Schooble cards into RPC. Which one are you going
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: to pick to put in?
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well Intrigue did not have a huge backload of
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: cards because he was a good prospect coming up, but
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: he was not like the thing. Plus he's a pitcher
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: like that just always pulls back. And so I finally
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: decided to get out of the of the deep end
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: of the pool here and go a little bit a
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: little more affordable, and I just went to one of
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: my favorite cards out there from a card design and
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: just uniqueness perspective, and that's the twenty twenty Tops Heritage
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: set Top Heritage Minors set where they did a nineteen
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: seventy one throwback nickel relic, and so this is a
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: card where they actually throw the nickel into.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: The card as the relic itself.
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: And this is an out of twenty five card I believe,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: actually it might be if I recall the listing I
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: had was actually incorrect. Is out of ninety nine because
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: all the nickels were out of ninety nine.
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: So disregard the.
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: Actual listing I put in there as far as it's
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: completely wrong as far as the card description.
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: But it's just a unique card.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: And when you start talking pictures, the allure from a
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: a rookie card or some even auto perspective just as
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: not quite the same as a hitter from the hobby,
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: just doesn't recognize it.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: So I want to go a.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: Little bit unique here, and there's nothing more unique than
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: Tops taking the time to put a nickel in every card.
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: And what better way to guarantee a return on on
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: your your ripping when you get a nickelback?
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: Yeah there you go. Yeah, lots of layers there. Yeah.
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: I love this card.
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: And we haven't really talked too much about any of
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: these kind of like coin based cards that make their
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: way into the heritage sets before that. It's a great
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: example of that, and it also like it's one of
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: the cards in terms of producing it that if we
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: ever got like the chance to sit down with Tops
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: and just ask, like the most esoteric questions are like
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: delve into any of their processes of how they make things.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: I would want to learn about like these cards, because
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: like do they buy like huge batchets of nickels and
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: then somebody goes through and sorts them all out by
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: years and then they just accumulate until they get enough,
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: or do they go to a source where they can
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: find all the year the nickel that they want. Did
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: they do this decades ago and they've been sitting on
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: these nickels and dimes and other things they put into
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: the cards and just kind of like have an entire supply.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: So many questions that go into this.
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: You know, there was some intern there was like his
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: job is to getting coffee every day and he always
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: had an extra nickel and he just had a big
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: old can there, and there's just like what are we
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: gonna do with this? Like you know, it's some crazy
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: story like that. There was zero logic to it except
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: for an intron was involved.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Somehow, I do have to think that there's something I mean,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I don't know diddly squat about coin collecting, but like
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: they us have access to like coin collectors must just
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: tuck away years because like I will say that the
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: coins that make it into these tops cards are never
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: the ninth look like the nineteen seventy one nicols.
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: I get like they are all nice up and yeah.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: They're fresh looking coins, but honestly, it would be way
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: more fun if it was just like the beat up
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: old coins that have been like in circulation for decades.
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: That would be fun to see. But you can tell
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: that they must start with like clean, fresh coins that
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: have been tucked away in some like collection or something.
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: But again I don't know.
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: I like to maybe think that, yeah, they are out
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: there hunting these things in the wild and just picking them.
- 1:50:40Speaker 2: Up a little by little. That'd be cool, all right?
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: Who'd you go after or what card you go after?
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: With mister Kerk's scuble here for the Alcyon.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I picked this card partly because you alluded to
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: this in terms of where Scooble came from, where he
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: was not a big, well known prospect, you know, he
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: was taking in the ninth round of the twenty eighteen draft.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Didn't make it into a Bowman set until twenty twenty,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: so his first Bowman's are actually in twenty twenty, two
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: years after he was drafted, and his first Bowman in
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: chrome sapphire had to go with the orange refractor, had
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: to go with a nice little color match here to
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: get that real tiger look. I was trying to find
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: like one of the Mojo versions of this, I couldn't
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: find one available. That's what I would pick more so
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: because like that's like you need an crazier color match
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: because you get the orange and then like the Mojo
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: gives it like a tiger stripe kind of feel, which
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: is just kind of like really cool. I also like
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: the twenty twenty Bowman design was a really clean design
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: to me. I think it really when I think Bowman,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: I actually think twenty twenty Bowmen designed a lot like
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: it just has all the harm hallmarks in terms of
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: the frame, the ang giler kind of lines on it,
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: the photo shopping, the centering of the player on the card,
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: and especially I think this is just a really really
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: great example of what a classic Bowman card.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: Is you get it an AlSi.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: Young Winner a little bit more pricey usually the one
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: that I'm linking to is hovering around two hundred bucks.
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: You can negotiate it down probably a little bit, but
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: just a really great, clean card.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: And to your point, like you and I both got
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: back into collecting in this timeframe, and so like this
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: is one of the first sets I remember collecting, you know,
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: almost four years ago we started to get back into cards,
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: and I have so many twenty twenty Bowmen first, just
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: sitting around of PC players and things like that. And
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: to your point, like there was something like it was
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: just a great year for a card.
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: Design for Bowman. So great card, great pitcher, and still
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: just really really affordable at the end of the day.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, I think so, And I think he, I mean,
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: he's a pitcher, so he will hopefully stay there for
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: a little bit scupable, but I mean it's got one
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: cy Young under his belt. He's pretty young, could have
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: a pretty nice career ahead of him. And so somebody
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: who has had a very nice career and with his
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: Cy Young this year in the NL probably puts the
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: cap on what is going to be a Hall of
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Fame career is Chris Sale.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: He's coming off a.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: Year when he went eighteen and three with a two
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: thirty eight ERA over one hundred and seventy seven and
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: two thirds innings with two hundred and twenty five strikeouts,
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: took home his first cy Young like I said, and
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: really has pushed himself into the upper echelon of what
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: pictures do in the modern age with fifty four total
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: war fangrass war in his career.
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: I think it's gonna end up putting him into the Hall.
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: Like I said, we did have two cards from Chris
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Sale go into our PCRs as he won a one
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: Pitcher of the Month this season, and it was fun
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: because it was like we got just put in some
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: of the first Chris Sale cards with the Braves, and
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: so now we're coming on the back end, we've got
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: more update cards and stuff that we can put in.
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: I know that's the route that we're going to go
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: because the Braves are. It's just kind of fun with
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: this this season that Chris SALEI put up, what card
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: A you're going to put into our pc Yeah.
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: You're right.
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: It was only right to make sure that Sale was
- 1:54:30Speaker 3: in a Brave uniform for this PC edition. It didn't
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: feel right to go after a white Sox or red
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: Sox uniform here, but I'm I'm going with the twenty
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: twenty four TOPS Update All Star Game jumbo patch, and
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: just for fun, I had to go with the one
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: on one of those, and I just I still we
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: talked about this with TOPS Update. I just really like
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: what they did with these patches, like they were patches
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: from the All Star event. I'm sure he wore seventeen
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: jerseys there and things like that, but I think it's
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: a great dynamic. And you know, the patch itself, maybe
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: least loaves of be desired when it's like a blue
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: and black patch relative to the Braves, you know, navy
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: red and white color theme. But I do think it's
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: just such a cool dynamic that they've created using those
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: All Star Game jerseys. And it was an All Star
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: cy Young season for Chris failed, so it just seemed
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: to fit, just seemed to fit, and.
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: This would be absolutely great card.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: And you know something there an eBay for four hundred dollars,
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: the best offer, you know, getting a cy Young card
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: for you know, a few hundred bucks is really not
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: that bad again shows.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: To show where that picture market is.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: But just just a cool, cool relic design that the
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: Tops did this year. They kind of nailed this one
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and we talked about this one.
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: Update came out as well on that pod that like
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: for how ugly those All Star uniforms were in this
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: past summer. The cards pop that they look great on cards,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: and so I think this is a great pick.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: I love this card, all right, one up me, Where
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: did you go?
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: So, I mean, I think this one's probably a little
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: bit more of a basic pick. But I'm going to
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: put in the twenty twenty four Top Series two Chris
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: Sale number for eighty four Golden Mirror Image super short
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: print variation mostly because this is.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: Like a goofy goofy card.
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: Is Chris Sale dragging a bunch of weights behind him,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: looks exhausted like he's at the end of his workout.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Does not make him look very powerful or like just
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: kind of bask him in glory because he just looks
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: exhausted pulling this this weight around. But what I also
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: love about this.
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: Card is.
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: The background of it is all outfield dirt. I think
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: it's outfield dirt. It's like warning track dirt, So the track, yep,
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: that's all that's behind him in this photo that I've
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: been getting into recently, I've been reading this blog about
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: nineteen ninety three Upper Deck. In Upper Deck in nineteen
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: ninety three did this a lot with a bunch of
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: those cards. It was like the in our first pod,
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: I talked about this being my favorite set of all time,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: but I've sorted to realize part of the reason is
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: a lot of the cards in that set do this
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: where the players totally the backgrounds all dirt or all
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: grass or all sky, and just creates a really stark
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: and striking image to put them against that solid background.
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: So not only is it like a cool super shortprint
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: of Chris Sale on the braves, but it kind of
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: harkens back to that nineteen ninety three Upper Deck design
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: that I love, and just it's not a type of
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: design or photograph you see on cards, very much modern
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: in the modern kind of era.
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and I also think you that there's a golden
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: Mere aspect, Like there is something about that short the
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: super short golden mirror that is just so fun. What
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: the tops kind of tried to create with the bounties
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: and things like that when that first came out, and
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: those cards are very, very desirable, and so I think
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: this is is a cool card for many reasons. And
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: you know, when I look at Chris Sale trying to
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: pull weights, he's the last person I think ever to
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: lift a weight with that frame.
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: But yeah, I think this is a good pick. This
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: is this is a fun one.
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I love it.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Okay, Well let's move on to our Rookie of the
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: Year winners. And so in the al we had Louise
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Heel put up a fantastic season, going fifteen and seven
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: over fifty one and two thirds with a three point
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: fifty ear arra worth two point two war and struck
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: out one hundred and seventy one batters.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: We discussed Louis Heel back actually on the same episode
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: where we inducted those first Chrysale cards into our PC.
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: We went super high end. I put in a one
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: of one.
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: Of Louis Heel, so that's off the board you put in. Honestly,
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: it's still like one of my favorite cards we found
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: through this show. If a National Treasures RPA of Louis
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: Heel where it's America and Yankees themed, I would go
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: back to that. It's episode forty seven. Listen to that
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: find that post in ras Ball. It's a delight. So
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: we have to zig a little bit here for Luis
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: Heel to honor his Rookie of the Year award. What
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: card you pick in to put into the PC?
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely zigged a little bit on this one,
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: and we definitely went down the price chart compared to
- 1:59:29Speaker 3: last time around. And I dug it into the Miners.
- 1:59:32Speaker 3: You know, I'm a sucker for some of those oddball
- 1:59:34Speaker 3: Miners cards, and so I went with the twenty twenty
- 1:59:38Speaker 3: Tops Heritage again here, just like with mister Scoble, and
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: went with the minor league blue out of ninety nine
- 1:59:46Speaker 3: Louis Heel for the Tarpins. There the single affiliate, the
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: Tampa Tarpains for the Yankees, And it's just a great
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: kind of attempt of the color match. It doesn't actually
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: color match, to be clear, with the Tarpa jersey versus
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: the actual color of the card. It's got the facility
- 2:00:05Speaker 3: signature on there, so not the real signature of the
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: fake signature on there. But I think it's just a
- 2:00:10Speaker 3: real fun card.
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: I like it the match.
- 2:00:12Speaker 3: I think the Tarpains is just a fun minor league
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: team team name. So it's just was a fun unique card,
- 2:00:20Speaker 3: nothing special, nothing, you know, no real collectibility about it. Yeah,
- 2:00:24Speaker 3: it's out of ninety nine, not even really that short
- 2:00:26Speaker 3: printed in today's day and age. So just with a
- 2:00:30Speaker 3: fun card. And I love just kind of the look
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: and feel. When there is just not that much of
- 2:00:36Speaker 3: Louis Heel out there in the marketplace, finding something different
- 2:00:40Speaker 3: was actually a lot harder than expected.
- 2:00:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean I think it's a it counts
- 2:00:44Speaker 2: as color match. It's got a blue.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: Jersey on and the seats behind him are all blue,
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: so it's got like a it's a striking card considering
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: it being a minor league card in just like not
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: even like you said, it's not a color match, but
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: is it color match? And the twenty twenty Tops Heritage
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: Minor League design a fantastic design, great pick all.
- 2:01:04Speaker 4: Right, where did you go because the slim the pickens
- 2:01:07Speaker 4: were slim.
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: Yes, exactly that I just had to go back to
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: basics here I went with the twenty nineteen Bowman Chrome
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: first auto of Louis Heel. This kind of goes back
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: to what I was talking about in terms of the
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: baseball card printing industry loving the New York Yankees, because
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen is when Louis Heal had.
- 2:01:30Speaker 2: His first card.
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: He signed originally with the Twins back in twenty fifteen
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: as a twenty seventeen year old. So this also kind
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: of shows the rise that Louis Heel has had a
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: little bit like Scoobale and you know, to a lesser
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: degree judge who was a first round pick, but like
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: he was traded in twenty eighteen to the Yankees in.
- 2:01:51Speaker 2: The deal that the other way. Let me check it
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: for Jake Cave.
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: Actually the day before my birth in twenty eighteen, on
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: March sixteenth, and was injured, but pitched a little bit
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: for the Yankees in twenty eighteen, and then lo and
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: Behold finally showed up on a Bowman card in twenty
- 2:02:10Speaker 1: nineteen because he was a Yankees' minor leaguer kind of
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: coming through the system. That's when they started finally putting
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: him into sets, and yeah, took off from there. So
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: I had to commemorate that kind of track record and
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: just kind of to put in the first Bowman card
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: of luisial here into our PC.
- 2:02:29Speaker 3: And if there's one dollar box. Fine, you want to
- 2:02:30Speaker 3: talk about in this PC? This is it from like
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: twenty twenty twenty one one. You know, there's loose heels
- 2:02:35Speaker 3: in dollar boxes from who's this unheralded pitcher wasn't even early,
- 2:02:40Speaker 3: you know, getting it out at the right time from
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: being drafted perspective. But yeah, it's it's a it's a
- 2:02:47Speaker 3: good card and there's nothing there's never anything.
- 2:02:49Speaker 4: Wrong with the first Bowman Auto.
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and let me look it up real quick on TCDB,
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure to be it is the only
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: first Bowman. He's also got the base version of this
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: doesn't have the first stamp on it, only the auto version,
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: which is kind of weird because obviously that's a little
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: bit of like he had already been floating around for
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: four years before he finally made it to a card
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: set that maybe they didn't want to pull the trigger
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: on putting that first stamp on it, and then we're like,
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: oh crap when they printed the autos and we're like,
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: we have never put him on a card, so let's
- 2:03:20Speaker 1: slap that first on there. Okay, Well, let's move on
- 2:03:25Speaker 1: to the National League because this is some high end
- 2:03:29Speaker 1: stuff that we're gonna be talking about right here with
- 2:03:31Speaker 1: Paul Skeens winning the Rookie.
- 2:03:32Speaker 2: Of the Year.
- 2:03:33Speaker 1: I honestly still think it should have been Jackson Merrill,
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: but you can't necessarily like have gone wrong with any
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: of the choices in the National League. After Paul Skeens
- 2:03:43Speaker 1: came up in May, went eleven and three over one
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: hundred and thirty three innings, one ninety six y RA,
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy strikeouts, was a superb start to
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: his career, like more than you can ever imagine, and
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: has pushed him self to being the number one fantasy
- 2:04:02Speaker 1: pitcher going to twenty twenty five. Only picture going in
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: the first round of drafts. We've got lots of great
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: cards from twenty twenty four to commemorate this. We've been
- 2:04:11Speaker 1: talking Paul Skeens a lot on this show over the
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: past few months, including you know, he did win one
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: Rookie of the Month. So we've already put in some
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: of his twenty twenty three Bowman draft cards.
- 2:04:24Speaker 2: Where are you going with this PC pick?
- 2:04:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I phoned this one in.
- 2:04:29Speaker 3: I cheated. I'm gonna own it. There's one card that
- 2:04:34Speaker 3: you have to own. Fall schemes and I will own
- 2:04:37Speaker 3: this is gonna be the PC for about five minutes.
- 2:04:40Speaker 4: And this is.
- 2:04:41Speaker 3: The twenty twenty four Tops Update Rookie debut patch. We
- 2:04:45Speaker 3: just talked about this, uh rook a watch auto one
- 2:04:48Speaker 3: of one for skins. We just talked about this on
- 2:04:51Speaker 3: the pod that was just last week. And you know,
- 2:04:55Speaker 3: like I said, it's gonna be the collection for about
- 2:04:57Speaker 3: five minutes that I'm gonna sell it to the pirates
- 2:05:00Speaker 3: and set my suite with Livy Dunn. That's that's really
- 2:05:03Speaker 3: what this one came down to. It was a means
- 2:05:05Speaker 3: to an end, and I'm okay with that.
- 2:05:07Speaker 2: Yes, great pick.
- 2:05:08Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, if if we're gonna pick a PC
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: and like not actually have to pay for these cards,
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: no better place for this card than that.
- 2:05:17Speaker 3: We'll keeping this only short and sweet. I went big
- 2:05:19Speaker 3: and then that's okay.
- 2:05:21Speaker 2: Yes, it's a fantastic pick. So I love it. Okay.
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: Well, the card that I ended up picking is actually
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: one I added to my personal PC recently. In terms
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: of uh, I'm trying to find who it was, but
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: somebody pointed this card. I didn't actually even know it
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: existed because there's so many TOPS now cards that have
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: come out throughout the year. I lose track of them all,
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: but the tops Now card between Schemes and Show Hey
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: O Tani that was released this past summer. It commemorates
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: when they faced off against each other in June, and
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: it's called Big On, Big Showdown Baseball has Baseball World
- 2:06:04Speaker 1: buzzing with Paul Skins in the background, Show Hey Otani
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: in the batter's box, and I have found the post.
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: Blue Sky is from Kurt Berner who made me aware
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: of this. He had a pretty cool Paul Skeens PC
- 2:06:17Speaker 1: that he showed off as I was talking about some
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: of the that Livvy Dun card and Redemption that we
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: were just alluding to. It's just a great card of
- 2:06:29Speaker 1: two of the behemoths of twenty twenty four, between Otani
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: and Skeens. I've got the Otani PC, so I had
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: to add this once I saw this. It's a very
- 2:06:37Speaker 1: very affordable card. You're looking at like eight to ten bucks,
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: easy to pick up.
- 2:06:42Speaker 2: So I would highly suggest.
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: Like everybody going out there and getting it because it
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: is it's a pretty well printed tops and out card.
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: But I mean, if you're gonna add one, I think
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: this is going to go down as like kind of
- 2:06:54Speaker 1: one of the great cards showing. I mean, you can't
- 2:06:58Speaker 1: sum up twenty twenty four better than this card with
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: schemes and Otani in it.
- 2:07:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's there's tops now, there's a certain spot forward
- 2:07:07Speaker 3: in the hobby. We'll we'll just say that, we won't
- 2:07:09Speaker 3: get into the whole discussion, but I think there's very
- 2:07:14Speaker 3: few card stops now that could become iconic, just kind
- 2:07:16Speaker 3: of like the Otani striking out trout in the World
- 2:07:20Speaker 3: Baseball plastic card, and this one has a potential to
- 2:07:23Speaker 3: kind of be there. I don't think it's on that
- 2:07:25Speaker 3: same level necessarily, but it is. It is a really
- 2:07:28Speaker 3: important card, I think as far as many things can
- 2:07:33Speaker 3: be said about the twenty twenty four season.
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: Okay, well that wraps up our awards winners and if
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: you want the link to like all the awards winners.
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: The nice thing is MLB dot Com has that that
- 2:07:44Speaker 1: you can even go deeper. I think this is a
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: great thing if you're looking for like a pretty straightforward,
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: small PC to start doing, like a rookie card or
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: any of these cards, the ones that you can afford
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: for the awards winners every year is a great place
- 2:07:58Speaker 1: to start if you're looking to just kick off a
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: collection that, like, you can't go wrong with collecting all MVPs,
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: all Side Young's, all Rookie of the Years, because not
- 2:08:08Speaker 1: only will people in the future always have value for
- 2:08:11Speaker 1: those cards, but if you've got a collection of like
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: all the MVP rookie cards, all of the Rookie of
- 2:08:17Speaker 1: the Year rookie cards, that will I think be worth
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: more together because it's got like a theme going for it.
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: Great place to start if you're looking to collect. The
- 2:08:26Speaker 1: other great place to start is picking up Hall of
- 2:08:29Speaker 1: Famer cards, And so we've got two new Hall of Famers.
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: Both of these guys have plenty of cards that have
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: been out there over the years as they came through
- 2:08:37Speaker 1: in the seventies, I mean one of them, and Dave
- 2:08:40Speaker 1: Parker lested all.
- 2:08:41Speaker 2: The way into our collecting area.
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: So like it's always kind of especially when I started
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: learning more about, you know, seventies and eighties baseball, after
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: like learning who Dave Parker was and it wasn't just
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: like this kind of old dude on the Brewers and
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: the Angels that I had in my baseball cards and
- 2:09:00Speaker 1: learning how fearsome he was. It's been like one of
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: my favorite things about kind of like just delving more
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: and more into baseball over the years. And so Dave
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: Parker Dick Allen both put into the Hall of Fame
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: this year.
- 2:09:12Speaker 2: Dave Parker.
- 2:09:15Speaker 1: Not necessarily like the greatest war total that you're looking at,
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: but the peak, the peak doesn't get kind of brighter
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: than what Dave Parker put up for the Pirates in
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: the late seventies. Was absolutely a fearsome hitter nicknamed the Cobra,
- 2:09:29Speaker 1: wore that helmet with the base or with the football
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: face mask on it for a little bit when he
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: broke his jaw.
- 2:09:36Speaker 2: Was the anchor of that lineup.
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: With Willie Stargol and just kind of an absolutely feared hitter.
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: Ended up clocking in at forty one point one fangrafts
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: war three hundred and thirty nine home runs slash two
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: ninety three thirty nine four to seventy one over his career.
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: That went over twenty four hundred and sixty six games.
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: Lots of teams because he kind of bounced around at
- 2:10:00Speaker 1: the end of his career. But it's great to see
- 2:10:02Speaker 1: Dave Parker in the Hall of Fame, and so, like
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: I said, he's got a wide range of cards because
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: he came up in the seventies, was around for the
- 2:10:14Speaker 1: you know, the peak of the junk wax era between
- 2:10:18Speaker 1: late ninety or late eighties into nineteen ninety one, and
- 2:10:22Speaker 1: so we've got lots of cards to pick from because
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: then Dave Parker started appearing on more recent stuff too.
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: As you know, he has been just a really collectible
- 2:10:32Speaker 1: and famous player for a long time. So we've got
- 2:10:35Speaker 1: lots of cards to pick from. Where did you go
- 2:10:38Speaker 1: for a Dave Parker card to put in our PC?
- 2:10:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:10:41Speaker 3: Well, I feel like a little bit hypocrite with where
- 2:10:43Speaker 3: I'm going here because I traditionally am not a you know,
- 2:10:47Speaker 3: more vintage player on modern product type of guy, but
- 2:10:52Speaker 3: I did, and this will be, I believe, the third
- 2:10:54Speaker 3: leaf card in the PCs. The two prior ones were
- 2:10:58Speaker 3: Leaf Trinity cards. I'm going to Leaf Lumber here with
- 2:11:02Speaker 3: Dave Parker with the bat knob one of one. And
- 2:11:05Speaker 3: we've talked about bat knobs on here, not so in
- 2:11:07Speaker 3: Leaf Lumber, but in some of the other sets in
- 2:11:10Speaker 3: the past. And it is what it sounds like.
- 2:11:12Speaker 4: It's a card.
- 2:11:14Speaker 3: With the relic of the end of a bat is
- 2:11:16Speaker 3: literally the bat Knob and so I've always wanted to
- 2:11:19Speaker 3: own a bat Knob card, So I think this is
- 2:11:21Speaker 3: a good time. But there's a little wrinkle about this
- 2:11:23Speaker 3: card that kind of strikes from me. And if you
- 2:11:26Speaker 3: read the back of the card, you know leaf does
- 2:11:29Speaker 3: this and then it's always for collectors, it always has
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: a little bit more weight. It's like the relic on
- 2:11:35Speaker 3: this card is a piece of a game used bat.
- 2:11:38Speaker 3: Like collectors love the element of the game used bat.
- 2:11:42Speaker 3: If you look at the relic itself, the end of
- 2:11:46Speaker 3: the bat, it specifically says b P on it, which
- 2:11:51Speaker 3: is a general reference to a batting practice bat, therefore
- 2:11:55Speaker 3: not game used. Now it's possible Dave Parker used this
- 2:12:00Speaker 3: that in a game and also BP. But I thought
- 2:12:04Speaker 3: that was really an interesting kind of nugget of this
- 2:12:07Speaker 3: one on one card that if you're like really a
- 2:12:10Speaker 3: baseball fan, you're really deep into it, and you're looking
- 2:12:14Speaker 3: at this trying to make this, you're like, that's not
- 2:12:17Speaker 3: likely a game used relic as much as you say
- 2:12:20Speaker 3: it is.
- 2:12:20Speaker 4: So I thought that was great.
- 2:12:21Speaker 3: You know, I think you know, when you first look
- 2:12:23Speaker 3: at it, you thought it was his initials BP DP,
- 2:12:27Speaker 3: Like it's not too far off you.
- 2:12:29Speaker 4: Can kind of see that. But I do think, honestly
- 2:12:32Speaker 4: this is.
- 2:12:33Speaker 3: A not a game used bat because it's not like
- 2:12:37Speaker 3: their leaf was collecting it at the game. This was
- 2:12:40Speaker 3: a bat used in the seventies most likely, and they're
- 2:12:43Speaker 3: just taking it to the word of somebody this was
- 2:12:45Speaker 3: game use, and then they're verifying that that case and
- 2:12:49Speaker 3: then using the most obvious element to say it's not
- 2:12:53Speaker 3: so fun card.
- 2:12:55Speaker 4: Also a little bit unique.
- 2:12:56Speaker 3: Also the first bat Knob card making it into the PC,
- 2:12:59Speaker 3: so I broke my collecting PC of vintage players on
- 2:13:05Speaker 3: modern cards, but there was a there's very valid reason.
- 2:13:08Speaker 1: Yes, I think it's a great pick, not your first
- 2:13:10Speaker 1: bat Knob because you put it in an Aaron Judge
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: batknop back in the day too, another one of that.
- 2:13:14Speaker 2: But yeah, so you're actually a batknop guy. But beautiful card.
- 2:13:19Speaker 1: Beautiful kind of like providence in terms of coming through
- 2:13:23Speaker 1: from the BP. I actually I think it's more fun
- 2:13:25Speaker 1: than it's a VP card if he did use it
- 2:13:28Speaker 1: in like BP situations and not actual game that it's
- 2:13:31Speaker 1: kind of like, it's just cool. It's like another layer
- 2:13:35Speaker 1: of just like a story with Dave Parker.
- 2:13:37Speaker 2: I love it.
- 2:13:39Speaker 4: All right, where did you go? Did you go modern?
- 2:13:41Speaker 4: Did you go vintage? Where'd you go with with with
- 2:13:43Speaker 4: mister Parker.
- 2:13:45Speaker 1: I went vintage here, so I didn't pick the rookie
- 2:13:49Speaker 1: card of Dave Parker, which is in the nineteen seventy
- 2:13:52Speaker 1: four set, so that's where you can find the true
- 2:13:55Speaker 1: Dave Parker rookie card. I actually went the next year,
- 2:13:57Speaker 1: nineteen seventy five. Tops classic does with the color and
- 2:14:01Speaker 1: the big bold team names at the top of it.
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: Great framed cards all around. But man Dave Parker looked
- 2:14:10Speaker 1: so cool in all of his cards in the seventies.
- 2:14:12Speaker 1: He was just like I can't imagine trying to face him.
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: He's just a behemoth in the batter's box. And this
- 2:14:19Speaker 1: card exudes that I think of like what people were
- 2:14:22Speaker 1: intimidated by with the young Dave Parker. You can just
- 2:14:25Speaker 1: see the strength in his hands and his wrists. You
- 2:14:28Speaker 1: can see the mean glare on his face. And on
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: top of it all, you've got the kicker of the
- 2:14:33Speaker 1: Roberto Clemente memorial patch. When he passed away after the
- 2:14:37Speaker 1: nineteen seventy four season. Right here was seventy three. But anyways,
- 2:14:41Speaker 1: you know when they wore that patch for Clemente on
- 2:14:44Speaker 1: Dave Parker's left arm, the faescimile of his signature across
- 2:14:48Speaker 1: the front of it. I think this is my favorite
- 2:14:51Speaker 1: kind of vintage run Dave Parker card that came through
- 2:14:54Speaker 1: when he was on the Pirates.
- 2:14:56Speaker 2: It's a must own, super cheap.
- 2:14:58Speaker 1: It's like a five dollars card, so it's a great
- 2:15:01Speaker 1: place to start, and you're not going to go wrong
- 2:15:03Speaker 1: collecting anything from nineteen seventy five tops one of the
- 2:15:06Speaker 1: all time classic sets.
- 2:15:09Speaker 3: He absolutely makes that bat look like a toothpick, and selfishly,
- 2:15:13Speaker 3: I was zooming in on the bat knob hoping it
- 2:15:15Speaker 3: had VP on it, but it did not. But yeah,
- 2:15:19Speaker 3: I think you're right. Nineteen seventy five is just a
- 2:15:21Speaker 3: classic top set. Absolutely, so I think this is a
- 2:15:24Speaker 3: great pick. And man, Dave Parker's scary looking dude, like
- 2:15:29Speaker 3: I would not want to pitch to him. I'd rather
- 2:15:32Speaker 3: pitch the air Jubb or judge or show hey Tani.
- 2:15:35Speaker 3: Looking at this guy, I worried for him in the back.
- 2:15:38Speaker 3: He'd use that bat against.
- 2:15:39Speaker 2: Me, yes, exactly.
- 2:15:42Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's move on to talking about Dick Allen
- 2:15:45Speaker 1: because this one came way too late and It's really
- 2:15:49Speaker 1: sad because Dick Allen passed away in twenty twenty and
- 2:15:53Speaker 1: has long been deserving of being in the Hall of Fame.
- 2:15:56Speaker 1: That certainly has more career fangrasts war in fewer games.
- 2:16:01Speaker 2: Than Dave Parker. So he put up sixty.
- 2:16:03Speaker 1: One point three fangress war in seventeen hundred and forty
- 2:16:07Speaker 1: nine games, So that's about five hundred games fewer than
- 2:16:10Speaker 1: what Dave Parker had, but more home runs, three hundred
- 2:16:14Speaker 1: and fifty one home runs, a two ninety two, three
- 2:16:16Speaker 1: seventy eight, five point thirty four slash line, a Rookie
- 2:16:20Speaker 1: of the Year, an MVP, and all those numbers are
- 2:16:23Speaker 1: also held back by the fact that, like, because Dick
- 2:16:27Speaker 1: Allen kicked off his career all the way back in
- 2:16:29Speaker 1: nineteen sixty three, there were a lot of just like
- 2:16:34Speaker 1: racial undertones to the way that he was handled.
- 2:16:37Speaker 2: By the Phillies.
- 2:16:38Speaker 1: And the Cardinals and the Dodgers, that, like, he was
- 2:16:42Speaker 1: seen as a mercrucial player who was moody and just
- 2:16:46Speaker 1: like didn't fit into these teams. But when you kind
- 2:16:49Speaker 1: of dig into the stories of who Dick Allen was
- 2:16:52Speaker 1: and what caused a lot of those feelings, he had.
- 2:16:56Speaker 1: It was a lot of prejudice and racism that he
- 2:16:59Speaker 1: came he faced coming through those just years in the sixties,
- 2:17:03Speaker 1: and what he was seeing as by the rest of
- 2:17:07Speaker 1: the league really just kind of a sad story that
- 2:17:09Speaker 1: he didn't get to actually get this Hall of Fame
- 2:17:12Speaker 1: honor that he deserved while he was still alive. So
- 2:17:14Speaker 1: it is great to see him be inducted, but at
- 2:17:17Speaker 1: the same time, like it's a little bit of a
- 2:17:19Speaker 1: bummer it took this long to get Dick Allen in
- 2:17:21Speaker 1: there because he deserved it for a long time and
- 2:17:24Speaker 1: was held back by the league in terms of like
- 2:17:26Speaker 1: the same way lots of the Negro League's players were.
- 2:17:29Speaker 2: So Dick Allen.
- 2:17:32Speaker 1: Has another great set of cards from the seventies that
- 2:17:35Speaker 1: you know, also looked intimidating as hell, looked cool as
- 2:17:39Speaker 1: hell with his beard and giant, giant glasses, and lots
- 2:17:44Speaker 1: of lots of his cards, so especially like his White
- 2:17:47Speaker 1: Sox cards are just like fantastic.
- 2:17:51Speaker 2: But we've got lots of cards to pick.
- 2:17:52Speaker 1: Up from between his run in the seventies and sixties,
- 2:17:57Speaker 1: plus all of like the newer modern stuff that's been
- 2:18:00Speaker 1: printed of Dick Allen, so which direction did you go
- 2:18:03Speaker 1: which Dick Allen card you're putting into the PC?
- 2:18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I went simbi modern on this one, and you know,
- 2:18:10Speaker 3: I'm going with the two thousand and one Tops Golden
- 2:18:12Speaker 3: Anniversary Autographs set, which you know, for for this card,
- 2:18:17Speaker 3: you know, it looks like a picture of Dick Allen
- 2:18:19Speaker 3: from the really early days of his career before he
- 2:18:23Speaker 3: went on like a tour a decade with with the
- 2:18:26Speaker 3: Phillies and ultimately ending up there with the White Sox
- 2:18:30Speaker 3: before he went back to Philadelphia. Is this an on
- 2:18:33Speaker 3: card auto, which which is which is great as well,
- 2:18:37Speaker 3: signed well after his playing days.
- 2:18:38Speaker 4: We know that.
- 2:18:40Speaker 3: But what I love about this is the background is
- 2:18:42Speaker 3: kind of the seams of a baseball, very clean white
- 2:18:46Speaker 3: background which just makes absolutely makes the picture of Dick
- 2:18:50Speaker 3: Allen stand out. He's just kind of pose with the
- 2:18:53Speaker 3: bat on the shoulder as many cards back in the
- 2:18:56Speaker 3: day were of players in the early vintage days of hops.
- 2:19:01Speaker 4: So it's just a.
- 2:19:01Speaker 3: Very very clean card, great autograph. Loved the blue ink
- 2:19:06Speaker 3: auto on this as well, so didn't go.
- 2:19:08Speaker 4: Vintage, didn't go monitor, went kind of in the in between.
- 2:19:12Speaker 3: You This card is almost twenty five years old now,
- 2:19:14Speaker 3: which is kind of crazy to think, but just a clean,
- 2:19:19Speaker 3: clean card for that Tops Anniversary edition.
- 2:19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it. It's great. And two thousand and
- 2:19:24Speaker 2: one Tops does not miss.
- 2:19:26Speaker 1: They really nailed it with that golden anniversary kind of
- 2:19:29Speaker 1: fifty years fifty year anniversary of Like obviously it's a
- 2:19:35Speaker 1: fond spot in my heart between the Eierro and Poohols
- 2:19:38Speaker 1: Worokies in two thousand and one Tops. But the autos
- 2:19:41Speaker 1: did not miss either. This is a great design, great
- 2:19:44Speaker 1: on card, autograph, great mind.
- 2:19:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it absolutely is.
- 2:19:48Speaker 3: So all right, close us out the last card we
- 2:19:50Speaker 3: were adding to the PC for this go around.
- 2:19:54Speaker 4: What's it gonna be for Dick Allen?
- 2:19:56Speaker 2: All right?
- 2:19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a nice little twist because I know
- 2:19:59Speaker 1: that both of us love these cards. They're very underrated,
- 2:20:02Speaker 1: I think in the hobby overall. I'm going with a
- 2:20:05Speaker 1: twenty twenty three Tops Heritage buy back of the nineteen
- 2:20:08Speaker 1: seventy four Tops Dick Allen cards. So if you're not
- 2:20:13Speaker 1: familiar with what these cards are is TOPS Heritage. Every
- 2:20:16Speaker 1: year they put in box toppers where they buy back
- 2:20:20Speaker 1: the cards related to that set previously that they're using
- 2:20:24Speaker 1: for that Tops Heritage design in that current year and
- 2:20:27Speaker 1: So what they did is they went back into the market,
- 2:20:30Speaker 1: bought a nineteen seventy four Dick Allen card that was
- 2:20:34Speaker 1: out there in the market, put a stamp on it,
- 2:20:36Speaker 1: and then re released it into twenty twenty three TOPS Heritage.
- 2:20:40Speaker 1: And so you actually it is like a nineteen seventy
- 2:20:42Speaker 1: four TOPS card, but it's been recirculated by TOOPS, was
- 2:20:46Speaker 1: pulled out of a pack in twenty twenty three, comes
- 2:20:49Speaker 1: with that stamp on it, so that you know that
- 2:20:51Speaker 1: it came from twenty twenty three TOPS Heritage. These things
- 2:20:55Speaker 1: are rare as all get out, Like there are rare
- 2:20:58Speaker 1: cards when you find them, because think of how many
- 2:21:02Speaker 1: nineteen seventies TOPS cards are out there, and especially when
- 2:21:05Speaker 1: TOPS is going and doing this, they end up putting
- 2:21:08Speaker 1: a lot of commons in the in the buybacks that
- 2:21:11Speaker 1: they're a lot.
- 2:21:12Speaker 2: Easier to find. The one.
- 2:21:14Speaker 1: I always think so many Reggie Cleveland cards, like from
- 2:21:17Speaker 1: the seventies that I've ended up with over the years
- 2:21:19Speaker 1: that like just no name Pitchers, to get it of
- 2:21:22Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer is a fantastic get, And they're
- 2:21:25Speaker 1: so affordable for how rare they are. You know, usually
- 2:21:28Speaker 1: you can get most of these for twenty five to
- 2:21:31Speaker 1: forty bucks. And on this card too, great design from
- 2:21:35Speaker 1: nineteen seventy four with the kind of flags on it.
- 2:21:38Speaker 1: Dick Allen looks great with the This is when the
- 2:21:41Speaker 1: Red Sox had the or the White Sox had the
- 2:21:43Speaker 1: red hats with the baby blues like powder jerseys. And
- 2:21:48Speaker 1: Dick Allen is on it with all of his glory,
- 2:21:50Speaker 1: with his great handlebar mustache and those giant ass glasses
- 2:21:53Speaker 1: I was alluding to, just like a perfect encapsulation of
- 2:21:57Speaker 1: the mid seventies.
- 2:21:58Speaker 2: I absolutely love this design. This cardiff Toick Ount.
- 2:22:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and you hit the nail on the head because
- 2:22:05Speaker 3: I actually have a Bob Gibson from the twenty twenty
- 2:22:08Speaker 3: one Heritage nineteen seventy two version of this and I
- 2:22:12Speaker 3: I've had that. I had that for a few years,
- 2:22:13Speaker 3: and I actually, just about two weeks ago submitted that
- 2:22:15Speaker 3: to PSA because nobody had graded one of these buybacks
- 2:22:20Speaker 3: of Gibson from that year, and I actually went back
- 2:22:23Speaker 3: into the math on the buybacks. I'm guessing twenty twenty
- 2:22:26Speaker 3: one is a little bit thinner than twenty twenty three,
- 2:22:28Speaker 3: but I estimated there was about thirty to thirty five
- 2:22:32Speaker 3: of these cards produced because of how large those sets
- 2:22:35Speaker 3: were back in the day. They used to be six
- 2:22:37Speaker 3: to seven hundred card sets, and these buyback cards were
- 2:22:42Speaker 3: like one for every three hobby boxes and things like.
- 2:22:45Speaker 3: They were not easy to find. So to get some
- 2:22:47Speaker 3: of the Hall of Famers, the big names, it's actually,
- 2:22:51Speaker 3: you know, much bigger deal than you realize. And so
- 2:22:54Speaker 3: I had to dismiss it to PSA just to kind
- 2:22:56Speaker 3: of see what they would do with it and how
- 2:22:59Speaker 3: they'd you know, authenticated, what kind of grade they'd give,
- 2:23:02Speaker 3: Like are they given like looking as.
- 2:23:03Speaker 4: A vintage card or a modern cartage?
- 2:23:05Speaker 3: That was interesting. Uh, but I think this is absolutely right.
- 2:23:09Speaker 3: This is a very underappreciated aspect of heritage because people
- 2:23:14Speaker 3: do not realize how rare these cards are. At some point,
- 2:23:17Speaker 3: I expect some folks are going to start to realize
- 2:23:20Speaker 3: it in the hobby and be like, wait a second,
- 2:23:21Speaker 3: these are these are really unique cards. And there's another
- 2:23:26Speaker 3: aspect of it is condition from the cards back in
- 2:23:28Speaker 3: the day was really a tough thing. And so, uh,
- 2:23:31Speaker 3: the one you actually picked out on Dick Allen looks
- 2:23:34Speaker 3: to be in pretty cutch darn good condition. It's not
- 2:23:35Speaker 3: perfectly center by any means yeah, but like corners look
- 2:23:39Speaker 3: pretty decent. You know, surface looks pretty good like that.
- 2:23:42Speaker 3: That's kind of a really unique twist that like they
- 2:23:45Speaker 3: had to go out and find these things and then
- 2:23:46Speaker 3: do their stamping on it as well.
- 2:23:48Speaker 4: So I think you did a great job.
- 2:23:50Speaker 3: Bringing a buyback from Heritage into the set to kind
- 2:23:52Speaker 3: of close this out.
- 2:23:54Speaker 2: Yes, thank you. This is a great kind of cap
- 2:23:57Speaker 2: to twenty twenty four.
- 2:23:58Speaker 1: So certainly, if you're out there collecting these cards for
- 2:24:02Speaker 1: the awards winners or for Dick Allen or Dave Parker
- 2:24:05Speaker 1: and think that we overlook something pretty cool, reach out

- 2:25:32Speaker 2: We've got a.
- 2:25:35Speaker 1: Store with hats, t shirts, mugs, baby onesies. We still
- 2:25:40Speaker 1: got to figure out what shirt we're going to put
- 2:25:42Speaker 1: in to commemorate the twenty twenty four season, but I
- 2:25:45Speaker 1: think we might come back and do that next week
- 2:25:47Speaker 1: on the pod because after the winter meetings side down,
- 2:25:50Speaker 1: I think we'll obviously have a lot of transactions that
- 2:25:52Speaker 1: will round us out, but it'll be a little bit
- 2:25:54Speaker 1: more of a foul period after kind of people recover
- 2:25:57Speaker 1: from what's going on this week, kind of want to
- 2:26:01Speaker 1: recuperate a little bit, I think, in those front offices
- 2:26:03Speaker 1: and turn the corner into the holidays. So we appreciate
- 2:26:06Speaker 1: you checking out the pod and sticking around and listening
- 2:26:09Speaker 1: to all of our thoughts on these PC cards. We
- 2:26:12Speaker 1: will see you same time, same place next week. Take care, everybody,
