- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering One Piece episodes 918 and 919. It's on the
- 0:18Speaker 1: special operation to bring down Kaido and rampage the prisoners
- 0:24Speaker 1: Luffy and Kid. In these episodes... Luffy and Kid are
- 0:32Speaker 1: making trouble in prison. I expect nothing less of them.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We have some folks that feel kind of abandoned, which
- 0:42Speaker 1: I also get. And Sanji is charming ladies with delicious
- 0:47Speaker 1: bowls of noodles, which also I get. I relate a
- 0:53Speaker 1: lot to everything in these episodes. Welcome to Spoil Me.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:19Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. Florian is
- 1:24Speaker 1: not here in the chat today, I suspect because it's
- 1:27Speaker 1: quite late. But Seraphim is here. Thank you, Seraphim, for coming.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Seraphim can help me out here and there when I
- 1:33Speaker 1: get names wrong, inevitably. Yeah, I really liked these two
- 1:38Speaker 1: episodes a lot. I was not expecting to be as, like,
- 1:46Speaker 1: on Shitenmaru's side, as I wound up being. I cannot
- 1:51Speaker 1: endorse the total fatalism, of course, but once he, like,
- 1:57Speaker 1: explains the fact that, because we begin with a fight
- 2:03Speaker 1: between him and Dogstorm, and this is an attempt to
- 2:10Speaker 1: get him to become an ally, but Shitenmaru is just, like, Look, guys, low-key,
- 2:17Speaker 1: y'all just bailed for 20 years. And you haven't been
- 2:22Speaker 1: around to see the way everything fell out. And you
- 2:26Speaker 1: don't understand how it's been watching it fall apart. I
- 2:35Speaker 1: have had to just retreat to the person I was
- 2:41Speaker 1: before I got sort of rescued. Because... There was nobody
- 2:48Speaker 1: here to act as support if I wanted to continue
- 2:51Speaker 1: to help. And I'm just kind of pissed to have
- 2:57Speaker 1: been the one with this on his hands this whole time.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And you just waltz in here after decades of being away.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And to you, it's like all that other shit just happened.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But for me, I've been holding it down. And I
- 3:17Speaker 1: don't feel like I owe you anything because y'all didn't
- 3:21Speaker 1: have my back this entire time. So you don't get
- 3:25Speaker 1: to just waltz in and demand that I fall into
- 3:29Speaker 1: line with you. Shit changed. And I guess you wouldn't
- 3:34Speaker 1: know that because you haven't been here, which, ah, yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I mean, I do kind of get that. Again, I
- 3:45Speaker 1: don't like this attitude. I don't endorse this attitude, but
- 3:49Speaker 1: I can't help but understand, especially when the way that
- 3:53Speaker 1: things had gone down was like, I used to be
- 3:56Speaker 1: a criminal. I cleaned up my act. I began working
- 4:02Speaker 1: for the greater good. And then everybody who repped for
- 4:08Speaker 1: the greater good fucking vanished. you would kind of feel
- 4:15Speaker 1: almost like you got punked. You know, I'm supposed to
- 4:19Speaker 1: keep this up without any of you here to support me.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Like that's a lot to ask of a person. And
- 4:28Speaker 1: he wasn't the one at the forefront of, he turned
- 4:33Speaker 1: over a new leaf because of the people around him.
- 4:38Speaker 1: You really get the impression, not because he was so
- 4:40Speaker 1: determined to be better. but because somebody else saw something
- 4:44Speaker 1: in him and gave him the opportunity to be better
- 4:48Speaker 1: and also kind of gave him an outlet for these
- 4:51Speaker 1: instincts he already had that happened to fall on the
- 4:55Speaker 1: side of the angels, which was like a little bit circumstantial.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And I think that's sort of a thing that we,
- 5:05Speaker 1: we see in media here and there, but like, Frankly,
- 5:11Speaker 1: not as often as I would like, to a certain extent.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Just the character who does better, but isn't, their heart
- 5:24Speaker 1: hasn't been completely changed. It's that they are, being better
- 5:31Speaker 1: is made easier for them. And I think that this,
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know, often there's like a sort of Han Solo
- 5:39Speaker 1: like element that we think of where it's a person
- 5:42Speaker 1: who is a lone wolf, but throws in with the
- 5:48Speaker 1: good guys and obviously is a decent person, but has
- 5:54Speaker 1: to be pressed. And then they finally decide to step
- 5:58Speaker 1: up and put self-interest aside and risk it for everybody
- 6:04Speaker 1: else for the collective but this is like a different
- 6:09Speaker 1: thing where it's like he's not a lone wolf he's
- 6:13Speaker 1: somebody who seems quite susceptible to the circumstances surrounding him
- 6:18Speaker 1: and potentially to like peer pressure and he needs others
- 6:26Speaker 1: encouraging him and keeping him in line to keep doing
- 6:29Speaker 1: the right thing and You know, you could make a
- 6:32Speaker 1: lot of arguments about whether that makes you like kind
- 6:36Speaker 1: of weak. And I would say it probably does. But
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think a lot of people are weaker than we
- 6:43Speaker 1: would like to admit to ourselves. And if you are
- 6:46Speaker 1: surrounded by folks who are setting a bad example, it
- 6:50Speaker 1: can be really easy to let your behavior slide because
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're always comparing yourself to others. a very low bar.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And so as long as you're not doing the shitty
- 7:01Speaker 1: things they're doing, then you feel like you're pretty much okay.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And this is the thing that folks do with all
- 7:08Speaker 1: sorts of things. Men do it when it comes to
- 7:11Speaker 1: like being a partner. They'll be like, well, I'm not
- 7:13Speaker 1: hitting her like this other guy who hits his wife.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So I'm great. And addicts will make friends with other
- 7:19Speaker 1: people who are even more deeply addicted and in dire
- 7:24Speaker 1: straits because then they can be like, well, I might
- 7:27Speaker 1: do this drug, but I haven't lost my job and
- 7:30Speaker 1: been kicked out of my house and my wife hasn't
- 7:32Speaker 1: left me, so I'm doing okay. And that sliding scale,
- 7:40Speaker 1: when you do more judge yourself in the context of
- 7:44Speaker 1: the people around you versus on your own set of principles,
- 7:50Speaker 1: that can be very wobbly and inconsistent. over time because
- 7:56Speaker 1: the people around you are likely going to change and
- 7:59Speaker 1: shift and circumstances are going to change. And it's part
- 8:04Speaker 1: of why comparing yourself as a means of like determining
- 8:09Speaker 1: how you're doing is just a failing proposition because whatever
- 8:15Speaker 1: and whoever you're comparing to, it's all relative. You've got
- 8:20Speaker 1: to have your own rule set of that you govern
- 8:25Speaker 1: yourself by irrespective of what other people around you were doing.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And yeah, she doesn't have that, you know, it really
- 8:37Speaker 1: feels like there's also a sense of, I had hope
- 8:43Speaker 1: and I was doing good. And you guys really got
- 8:46Speaker 1: me thinking that like, this could be a way to live.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And then you vanished and everything went to hell and it,
- 8:54Speaker 1: appears this is not actually a way to live. This
- 8:57Speaker 1: is a way to get your hopes up and then
- 9:00Speaker 1: be crushed when your friends abandon you. And I am
- 9:05Speaker 1: not going to be made a sucker twice. Because unless
- 9:10Speaker 1: there are heroes and leaders around, being a good guy
- 9:14Speaker 1: doesn't really fucking work out, as I have seen firsthand.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And again, Shitenro... it's not like you couldn't have been
- 9:27Speaker 1: a leader, but despite how strong he is, he really
- 9:33Speaker 1: obviously doesn't see himself in that role. And I think
- 9:38Speaker 1: that's sort of interesting because we keep being told like
- 9:41Speaker 1: how strong he is. So often we have this idea
- 9:46Speaker 1: of like the person in charge is the one who
- 9:48Speaker 1: is the strongest. And in many ways, circumstances in media,
- 9:55Speaker 1: that will be true, but strength, can be a number
- 10:01Speaker 1: of different things. And it seems like the determination that
- 10:05Speaker 1: you have to have is just missing for him, which
- 10:09Speaker 1: is a shame because I don't know how you establish
- 10:12Speaker 1: that in somebody who doesn't have it already. This is
- 10:15Speaker 1: a question I often ask because I have encountered a
- 10:18Speaker 1: lot of people that are like, decent people who care
- 10:23Speaker 1: about others but they just don't really seem to have
- 10:25Speaker 1: the drive to like improve or do things in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: world that will improve the world and I'll look at
- 10:33Speaker 1: them and be like there is so much potential in
- 10:35Speaker 1: you and you have a lot of power in your
- 10:37Speaker 1: own way and you're just doing nothing with it and
- 10:40Speaker 1: I guess if it just seems too hard some people
- 10:46Speaker 1: aren't interested I mean I can understand that in a way.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But in a more fundamental sense, I can't really. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't know. It depends on what the issue at hand is,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I suppose. So, like I said, the whole opening of
- 11:05Speaker 1: this is him and Dogstorm fighting. And it is very
- 11:10Speaker 1: funny to me that Dogstorm is in the mix here.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I mean... I will never get used to the name Dogstorm,
- 11:21Speaker 1: to be honest. But yeah, Shutenru is yelling at him like,
- 11:26Speaker 1: you keep talking to me with this like sage wisdom
- 11:32Speaker 1: and this attitude like you know what the fuck was
- 11:34Speaker 1: going on and you weren't even here. And Dogstorm says,
- 11:39Speaker 1: if there is something you want to say, then just
- 11:44Speaker 1: say it. Sorry, something you Gaara want to say. I
- 11:48Speaker 1: really don't like that. I know that I've said this before,
- 11:50Speaker 1: but the fact that the minks all say Gaara after
- 11:53Speaker 1: you is just, that is one I just don't like.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And Kinemon finally, like, jumps in and breaks up the fight.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And this is when Shitenmaru begins to simply walk away.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And what is her name? Ochi? What is the name
- 12:13Speaker 1: of the woman who She says something to him like,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I thought you were better than this. And he's just like, oh,
- 12:23Speaker 1: you too. I can't believe the way that y'all are
- 12:28Speaker 1: behaving as if you are entitled to my help. Like,
- 12:31Speaker 1: get the fuck out of my face. Kiku says Seraphim,
- 12:37Speaker 1: is that it? Okay. Where am I getting the O from? Otama.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That's what, that's who I'm thinking of. Okay. It's been
- 12:48Speaker 1: a minute, guys. It's been a minute since the last episode.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And yeah, he says like, Odin was somebody that I
- 12:57Speaker 1: would definitely risk myself for. He's gone. And the Kozuki clan, like,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I don't, I didn't pledge myself to the clan. I
- 13:10Speaker 1: pledged myself to Odin. And then, and this kind of
- 13:14Speaker 1: got me, He goes, you got that, Momonosuke? And he
- 13:20Speaker 1: looks down and Momo is watching him and looks so pissed.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And I was just like, oh, shit, his son is
- 13:27Speaker 1: right here. So he's just basically being like, I know
- 13:30Speaker 1: you're his kid and I don't give a flying fuck.
- 13:37Speaker 1: And Kinemon says, I mean, I was a scoundrel. but
- 13:40Speaker 1: I haven't just left everything behind and turn my back
- 13:44Speaker 1: on all of the things that I know make sense
- 13:47Speaker 1: and are good. And he says, I can't believe that
- 13:52Speaker 1: you guys think that the world is going to be
- 13:54Speaker 1: so happy to see that you're back and throw themselves
- 13:56Speaker 1: behind you. They feel abandoned too. You're not going to
- 14:01Speaker 1: be able to just make up for that. Everything that
- 14:05Speaker 1: people have lost is, can't just be brought back. People
- 14:10Speaker 1: have died. Homes are burned to the ground. You know,
- 14:13Speaker 1: like everything has changed and you can't just undo it.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And that is a very fair point. 20 years is
- 14:23Speaker 1: a long time. You know, I mean, yeah. Uh, Okiku
- 14:30Speaker 1: also works. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of. Uh, The
- 14:37Speaker 1: O is just an honorific, like calling her Miss Kiku,
- 14:40Speaker 1: but with a bit more formality. Oh, okay. Which I
- 14:47Speaker 1: think makes the Ugara thing work with the minx better
- 14:50Speaker 1: in Japanese, since it's essentially just another type of honorific. Oh,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I didn't realize that. Okay, so it's like doing usted
- 14:59Speaker 1: instead of to in Spanish. I see. Okay. Okay. I
- 15:04Speaker 1: don't feel like you guys ever mentioned that before. Cause
- 15:06Speaker 1: it really like irked me, but now, now I get it. Okay. Um,
- 15:13Speaker 1: so they're walking away and Riso appears and it's like,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I was, uh, able to figure out where Luffy is
- 15:19Speaker 1: and he is confined in the labor camp, which I
- 15:25Speaker 1: don't remember. Like a lot of people had found this
- 15:28Speaker 1: out from the newspaper, but I guess these guys are
- 15:30Speaker 1: not able to get their hands on one cause they
- 15:32Speaker 1: can't go down to town. So that's why he is like,
- 15:35Speaker 1: investigating in this way um and then we cut over
- 15:43Speaker 1: to otama waking up from the attack from kaido and
- 15:50Speaker 1: i just loved this because she wakes up and she
- 15:52Speaker 1: says hello master and he is like so grateful to
- 15:56Speaker 1: the doctors that he like bows and the long nose
- 16:01Speaker 1: of the mask that he is wearing like hits the
- 16:04Speaker 1: floor and just pushes it. Like it was, it's just
- 16:08Speaker 1: a funny looking moment. Um, and yeah, she has been
- 16:15Speaker 1: rescued and she says, I remember that I got so
- 16:17Speaker 1: scared that I just like passed out right away. So
- 16:20Speaker 1: I actually don't even know what happened or why Kaido
- 16:23Speaker 1: would attack me. All I can remember is that Horselina
- 16:28Speaker 1: fought super hard to protect me, which I had forgotten
- 16:32Speaker 1: that she calls her Horselina and, And she says, like,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I don't know what happened to her. We don't know
- 16:41Speaker 1: where Speed is. And I am concerned because, like, after
- 16:48Speaker 1: throwing her lot in with Otama in a way that
- 16:53Speaker 1: was so highly visible, it's like she rescued Otama so quickly.
- 17:01Speaker 1: that could be something seen a certain way, but also
- 17:06Speaker 1: Kaido was like fucked up when he attacked people, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: he was really drunk. So I don't remember what he
- 17:12Speaker 1: just remembers and what he doesn't. I don't know how
- 17:17Speaker 1: much of, I don't know. Um, but anyway, this is
- 17:24Speaker 1: when it comes to light about like the fact that, uh,
- 17:29Speaker 1: she can make people into allies once they eat the thing,
- 17:33Speaker 1: as long as they are enough of an animal, which
- 17:36Speaker 1: is really, really convenient considering that all of the devil
- 17:42Speaker 1: fruit users on this particular quest island seem to have
- 17:50Speaker 1: animal-ish properties to them. So, I'm not mad about it,
- 17:55Speaker 1: but It is just sort of the hippo one that
- 18:01Speaker 1: we eventually see guys. I was, I was not a fan.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I gotta say we'll get there. But yeah, this is
- 18:09Speaker 1: when they have to tell her like Kaido has imprisoned
- 18:13Speaker 1: Luffy and he is at the camp. So she's like, well,
- 18:16Speaker 1: he needs us. And she's about to just get out
- 18:18Speaker 1: of bed immediately. And her master is like, you're injured.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You can't just go. And I love Chopper being like,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you do not need to worry about him. He is
- 18:31Speaker 1: going to pull through because that is what Luffy does.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Then we get a map of the different regions of Wano.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I think this is the very first time we've ever
- 18:42Speaker 1: seen this. So I am there. So there's the area
- 18:49Speaker 1: in the middle that has the like mountain area. with
- 18:55Speaker 1: Odin's castle at the top. And there is the, this
- 19:01Speaker 1: area to the side that is to the east. I'm like,
- 19:06Speaker 1: what exactly do I, but it is shown as like
- 19:12Speaker 1: a snowy region. There's the area with tons of slave labor.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And that has like all of these, the smokestacks and
- 19:25Speaker 1: whatnot and is shown as kind of this arid pock
- 19:29Speaker 1: marked area. And there's, there's a couple of others that
- 19:36Speaker 1: I'm not sure that we have gotten to see, but
- 19:39Speaker 1: there's the, the one that is just a, what do
- 19:44Speaker 1: you call it? Destroyed because of the war and all,
- 19:47Speaker 1: you know, like that's a different type, of arid landscape
- 19:52Speaker 1: than the one with the factories. Um, And the narrator
- 19:57Speaker 1: is telling us that there are several regions under the
- 20:00Speaker 1: current regime. Most of its inhabitants are criminals condemned to
- 20:05Speaker 1: the excavation labor camp. Kaido's lucrative weapons trade is bolstered
- 20:10Speaker 1: by the slave labor in these mines. It's a dreadful
- 20:13Speaker 1: place where prisoners are forced to work until they die
- 20:16Speaker 1: with no hope of escape. And I just want to say, y'all,
- 20:20Speaker 1: that The idea of, like, that most of the population
- 20:32Speaker 1: are prisoners is something that sounds so insane. But the
- 20:39Speaker 1: United States has a higher percentage of its population in jail, proportional,
- 20:49Speaker 1: than any other country. And of any... independent democracy. And
- 21:00Speaker 1: the way that for-profit prisons work, that is not surprising.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I think that the for-profit prison system is essentially slavery,
- 21:17Speaker 1: should be illegal, should be abolished. I also think that
- 21:22Speaker 1: money bail is should be abolished and that fines for
- 21:28Speaker 1: things should be like proportional to income. All of the,
- 21:35Speaker 1: the things that feel so ridiculous sometimes when they are
- 21:41Speaker 1: exaggerated in a cartoon, once you really stop and step back,
- 21:50Speaker 1: that's just actually like what it's like in many ways. Um,
- 21:57Speaker 1: so it's, uh, when you can utilize people for free
- 22:03Speaker 1: labor and that happens in prisons, you are very, very
- 22:09Speaker 1: motivated to find everybody to be guilty of some wrongdoing
- 22:13Speaker 1: so that they now have to be a prisoner who
- 22:16Speaker 1: gives you free labor. It's really not that hard a
- 22:22Speaker 1: math problem to solve. So this just, yeah, again, all
- 22:28Speaker 1: of this might seem so exaggerated, but it barely is.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And this is when we get to see exactly the
- 22:38Speaker 1: circumstances of how food is distributed and how people work.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So there are these blocks of stone that people have
- 22:48Speaker 1: to mine. And they, if you haul five blocks of
- 22:54Speaker 1: you can earn a single millet dumpling. And Luffy, we
- 23:01Speaker 1: see him just helping lift a block. And he is
- 23:07Speaker 1: working with another group of men who are all ordinary dudes.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And he earns his single dumpling. And just as he
- 23:17Speaker 1: is about to eat it, Captain Kidd goes running by
- 23:22Speaker 1: with a block that he is carrying alone at a
- 23:25Speaker 1: dead sprint. And not only is he going very hard
- 23:32Speaker 1: on this labor, but also knocks the dumpling out of
- 23:36Speaker 1: Luffy's hand, which basically, this is a declaration of war.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Luffy is a hungry boy, as we all know. He
- 23:44Speaker 1: takes his food very, very seriously. And you are not
- 23:47Speaker 1: going to get between him and his solitary millet dumpling.
- 23:51Speaker 1: It's simply not done. So I'll get back to all
- 23:59Speaker 1: that happens there. But the broad strokes are that him
- 24:05Speaker 1: and Kid both decide that they are going to... It's
- 24:09Speaker 1: like a combo where they each just want food, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: they also each are... very sensitive to the fact that
- 24:19Speaker 1: they are trying to outdo the other. And there is
- 24:22Speaker 1: this intense rivalry between them specifically. And, uh, this results
- 24:28Speaker 1: in the two of them wildly overeating to the point
- 24:34Speaker 1: that we get that like cartoon temporary fatness because they overate.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Now I understand that. Look, I don't know if it's
- 24:47Speaker 1: ever been actually confirmed that devil fruit eaters have got
- 24:52Speaker 1: a higher metabolism. I would be completely willing to accept
- 24:57Speaker 1: that as like canon. But I don't remember if it's
- 25:01Speaker 1: actually said. And if it is, okay, fair enough. But
- 25:10Speaker 1: watching this in August of 2026, I have a different
- 25:16Speaker 1: reaction to this than I might have had five years
- 25:19Speaker 1: ago where I am just instantly going, are you guys
- 25:23Speaker 1: planning on sharing or no? Oh, oh, okay. So you're
- 25:28Speaker 1: just going to eat it all. Okay. Well, and you're
- 25:31Speaker 1: just going to be like hideously grotesquely fat for a
- 25:35Speaker 1: minute until you metabolize and digest it all. And everybody
- 25:40Speaker 1: else just doesn't get any. Okay. Okay. Well, That's certainly
- 25:44Speaker 1: a choice. Because it's like, you both had far more
- 25:51Speaker 1: than you really needed. And there are other people who
- 25:54Speaker 1: can't but move one single block an hour. And they
- 26:01Speaker 1: get a single millet dumpling for five blocks. And we
- 26:05Speaker 1: see an old man who gets given one millet dumpling
- 26:12Speaker 1: and when he like complains that he has worked so
- 26:14Speaker 1: hard all day and he only gets the one he
- 26:18Speaker 1: gets the food like smacked out of his hands he
- 26:21Speaker 1: gets tossed and essentially there's like a guard standing over
- 26:26Speaker 1: him that's like well if you're too old and feeble
- 26:30Speaker 1: to work adequately anymore then you may as well just
- 26:32Speaker 1: drop dead and stop using up our food supply for
- 26:36Speaker 1: nothing and And I just was really hopeful that our
- 26:41Speaker 1: boys would like earn tons of food and then distribute
- 26:44Speaker 1: it with everybody in acknowledgement of the fact that, yes,
- 26:49Speaker 1: I can do more and I will take advantage of
- 26:54Speaker 1: that in order to game the system to make it
- 26:58Speaker 1: fair for everybody. But that is not what happens, at
- 27:04Speaker 1: least not yet. What happens instead is that because they
- 27:09Speaker 1: are gaming the system and earning all of these dumplings,
- 27:13Speaker 1: and it's very funny because there comes a point later
- 27:15Speaker 1: where they are carrying these blocks and they've been at
- 27:20Speaker 1: it for a little bit. So they run up to
- 27:26Speaker 1: a barge that's collecting them and they like chuck the
- 27:31Speaker 1: blocks of stone on there. And one of the foremen
- 27:34Speaker 1: on the ship is like, hey, wait, we have too
- 27:38Speaker 1: many already. The ship is full. And both of them
- 27:43Speaker 1: just yell at the guy and are like, well, then
- 27:46Speaker 1: fucking get another ship then. Why are you slacking off
- 27:49Speaker 1: like this? I did find that really funny. This guy
- 27:53Speaker 1: immediately sort of sits up and is like, yes, sir,
- 27:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry, as if they actually have any authority over him.
- 27:59Speaker 1: But it's just the fact that they are obviously forces
- 28:02Speaker 1: to be reckoned with. And I believe both of them
- 28:07Speaker 1: are wearing their sea prism stone. Are they? Because like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I'm unclear if they aren't, I would think they should
- 28:17Speaker 1: be able to like bust out of here pretty quick.
- 28:21Speaker 1: But if they are, I didn't think that they would
- 28:24Speaker 1: have the strength to do what they do here. Seraphim
- 28:29Speaker 1: says it's never been explicitly said, but it's a common
- 28:31Speaker 1: fan theory about metabolism. Okay. Okay. Um, yeah. And, and like,
- 28:38Speaker 1: even if, even if it is true about the metabolism,
- 28:41Speaker 1: I still think that we could have shared. I really
- 28:44Speaker 1: think that would have been a nice thing to do,
- 28:45Speaker 1: but we might be getting there. It may simply be
- 28:48Speaker 1: that we're a little self-absorbed at the moment and eventually
- 28:52Speaker 1: it's going to come to their, or at least Luffy's
- 28:54Speaker 1: attention and we'll, and we will share. Um, okay. I
- 29:01Speaker 1: just want to cut over to, uh, Sanji here because
- 29:05Speaker 1: we get, Everyone eating these noodles. And I can't tell
- 29:10Speaker 1: you guys how... Okay, here it is. Seraphim says, it's
- 29:16Speaker 1: mentioned that the cuffs are kind of sea prism alloy
- 29:21Speaker 1: that's made to nullify their powers and make them slightly weaker,
- 29:24Speaker 1: but not utterly helpless. Ah, okay. Didn't remember that. What
- 29:31Speaker 1: I had been about to say was, I don't know...
- 29:37Speaker 1: I know that it's kind of a thing that a
- 29:39Speaker 1: lot of people acknowledge that like in anime and especially
- 29:44Speaker 1: in certain ones, the food can look so appealing that
- 29:52Speaker 1: it makes folks just be like, can't I just get
- 29:56Speaker 1: The food straight out of this show, movie, whatever. And
- 30:02Speaker 1: this is definitely a thing. I actually covered Spirited Away
- 30:06Speaker 1: with Florian, which I finally just posted to the unspoiled
- 30:11Speaker 1: multimedia club feed. And the food in Spirited Away is
- 30:19Speaker 1: a focus in a few moments where I was just like, oh,
- 30:22Speaker 1: that looks amazing. That said... I don't know why, but
- 30:28Speaker 1: nothing really gets me hungry. Like the characters eating noodles specifically. Noodles,
- 30:39Speaker 1: they're just such a comfort food. They're so unbeatable. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: especially Asian noodles, the flavors are addicting. That beautiful balance
- 30:52Speaker 1: of savory and sweet that is so... underdone in a
- 31:00Speaker 1: lot of Western cuisine that can cause me to just
- 31:04Speaker 1: really overeat, frankly, when it's Asian food. I, my mouth
- 31:09Speaker 1: was watering watching this and there is a lot of
- 31:11Speaker 1: time spent with this. And I was just like, you
- 31:14Speaker 1: guys are killing me. Oh my God. I need ramen
- 31:16Speaker 1: so bad. So anyway, Sanji is making this food and
- 31:20Speaker 1: it is so, the way that this guy is making
- 31:27Speaker 1: Every woman in the place is lined up and he
- 31:31Speaker 1: is in his element. And he, like at one point,
- 31:36Speaker 1: Robin is like, you've really outdone yourself. This is incredible.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And he is like, and it's just for you. What
- 31:45Speaker 1: is the name that she's going by here? Because she
- 31:47Speaker 1: says his name is Sangoro and he calls her, where
- 31:52Speaker 1: is it? Arobi. Arobi. Arobi. Huh. Nico Robin. And so...
- 32:03Speaker 1: The O is the honorific. And then we just take
- 32:06Speaker 1: the N off it. Orobi. Okay. Huh. Interesting. And Sengoro...
- 32:15Speaker 1: How does that one work? What's the structuring with that?
- 32:20Speaker 1: And why do we take the N off the end?
- 32:22Speaker 1: Is that anything... like part of a tradition or is
- 32:26Speaker 1: that simply to disguise the name? Is that just like,
- 32:29Speaker 1: you know, the easiest way to, to, to what's the
- 32:34Speaker 1: word I want? Make it seem very dissimilar to Robin,
- 32:39Speaker 1: which it does seem so. But yeah, he, the, the
- 32:48Speaker 1: fact that he is doing this, eventually Nami catches up
- 32:51Speaker 1: with him and it's just like, you're so, to be
- 32:55Speaker 1: recruiting samurai dude what are you doing and you know
- 33:01Speaker 1: what he's doing he's doing what he does best Nami
- 33:05Speaker 1: he's schmoozing he's making the ladies take notice he hasn't
- 33:10Speaker 1: gotten a chance to cook in a bit give him
- 33:13Speaker 1: a break have something to eat you're probably cranky because
- 33:17Speaker 1: your blood sugar is low sit down have a little
- 33:20Speaker 1: soup um The Goro, Juro, etc. at the end of
- 33:27Speaker 1: the guy's names are just the order of birth. First son,
- 33:32Speaker 1: second son, etc. Okay, so help me out with this, Seraphim.
- 33:38Speaker 1: He's making a lot of like numbers jokes as he's
- 33:41Speaker 1: serving up this soup. Is that like the birth order
- 33:47Speaker 1: part of the joke? Because, you know, he's talking about
- 33:51Speaker 1: how many brothers he had. And he says something like,
- 33:55Speaker 1: you won't hate my soup. And the emphasis is on eight.
- 34:00Speaker 1: But then he'll just say numbers. And I think probably
- 34:03Speaker 1: a lot of this is that it just doesn't translate
- 34:05Speaker 1: well in English. But it feels like complete nonsense speak.
- 34:10Speaker 1: It just feels like, what are you even saying? It's
- 34:13Speaker 1: like he's doing a clever wordplay, but the wordplay is
- 34:16Speaker 1: not apparent. So I'm just watching him say this and
- 34:21Speaker 1: I'm going, OK, well, I don't get it. And I
- 34:23Speaker 1: can't tell if the women get it either or if
- 34:26Speaker 1: they're just tolerating him because they want their noodles, which,
- 34:30Speaker 1: you know, would very much be in the vein of
- 34:33Speaker 1: what I would be doing at the time. I would
- 34:36Speaker 1: probably just be like, hey, you know, I'm sure you
- 34:39Speaker 1: find yourself very clever, but all of us are hungry.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And if you could just get a move on, that
- 34:43Speaker 1: would be great. Seraphim says, I think it's just Oda
- 34:47Speaker 1: loving him some wordplay and that not translating well. Okay.
- 34:53Speaker 1: So let's see. I'm trying to, I'm trying to like
- 34:57Speaker 1: jump around a little bit to follow the way the
- 35:01Speaker 1: show goes, but like also like, not jump around quite
- 35:04Speaker 1: as much. So I'm covering most of one episode's events
- 35:09Speaker 1: with one character as I can. We have an encounter
- 35:14Speaker 1: on the street with the slasher guy again. And I
- 35:22Speaker 1: guess it's the dude that Zorro thought he killed, but
- 35:27Speaker 1: the guy is still alive. Is that right? It's a
- 35:32Speaker 1: weird moment because this guy gets cut down, but then
- 35:38Speaker 1: there's a dude who's selling newspapers who says that he
- 35:44Speaker 1: kills and takes from the rich and gives to the
- 35:47Speaker 1: poor like a Robin Hood type of thing. But I
- 35:52Speaker 1: don't know if it's supposed to be that it's like
- 35:55Speaker 1: the same guy or a different guy. Because there's one
- 35:59Speaker 1: dude who's in the street that slices a dude up
- 36:01Speaker 1: and he has like this glowing red eyes and glowing
- 36:06Speaker 1: smile that's very spooky and reminded me of the pretty boy.
- 36:10Speaker 1: But then there's a side view of a silhouette character
- 36:14Speaker 1: that's like running across the rooftops. And he has a really,
- 36:19Speaker 1: really distinctly different look. And he has almost got what
- 36:24Speaker 1: looks like a white beard style mustache, but it might
- 36:28Speaker 1: be the strap of like a hat that goes under
- 36:31Speaker 1: his nose in that weird way. I couldn't tell if
- 36:35Speaker 1: those were supposed to be the same person or if
- 36:37Speaker 1: they were two separate people because the costumes didn't really
- 36:41Speaker 1: look the same. And as they are like, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 1: this guy is selling these newspapers and all of the
- 36:50Speaker 1: people are gathering around to hear about this story. We
- 36:55Speaker 1: have this tall blonde guy who's walking through town and
- 37:00Speaker 1: the camera is like really zeroed in on him. He's
- 37:03Speaker 1: got a, um, he's like a few feet taller than
- 37:08Speaker 1: most of the people around him. And he has a
- 37:11Speaker 1: flowing green robe and he walks past Usopp and he's
- 37:18Speaker 1: got the, what do you call it? The crescent moon robe.
- 37:25Speaker 1: on the inside of his ankle as he's walking. And
- 37:30Speaker 1: Usopp slips him one of the papers that has the
- 37:35Speaker 1: message on it that's made out of all of these symbols. This,
- 37:42Speaker 1: I have to assume, is probably, this symbol is probably
- 37:46Speaker 1: a pretty popular tattoo, I would bet, huh? Because it's
- 37:50Speaker 1: cool looking and it's really distinctive. There are certain things
- 37:54Speaker 1: that are like symbols in a way that's very generic
- 37:58Speaker 1: almost and like I hate to bring up Harry Potter
- 38:03Speaker 1: but the the dark mark is a skull with like
- 38:10Speaker 1: a snake coming out of its mouth which is distinctive
- 38:15Speaker 1: but is also to a degree just like a very
- 38:19Speaker 1: metal kind of imagery that you could probably have found
- 38:23Speaker 1: in tattoo shops and like long before it was anything.
- 38:29Speaker 1: This is something that there's no mistaking what this is.
- 38:32Speaker 1: This is a specific set of symbols with a really
- 38:35Speaker 1: particular style to them. That's like unusual. And yeah, I
- 38:42Speaker 1: could see it being something that a lot of people
- 38:44Speaker 1: would be like into, but yeah, this guy takes the
- 38:48Speaker 1: paper out and he like, cause it's like stuck in
- 38:51Speaker 1: it's the impression that I get is that it's shoved
- 38:53Speaker 1: in a pocket in such a way that, You don't
- 38:56Speaker 1: notice it right away, but you do seem to clock
- 38:59Speaker 1: that it's there pretty quick. So we have like a
- 39:02Speaker 1: montage of all of these different people who are getting
- 39:07Speaker 1: passed by various members of our team, not just Usa,
- 39:12Speaker 1: but we also have Beppo is in there where he's
- 39:14Speaker 1: got one of those like basket helmets to hide that
- 39:17Speaker 1: he's a bear, you know, just a bunch of different dudes. And,
- 39:23Speaker 1: We get to see the difference in the way everybody
- 39:26Speaker 1: is reacting once they pull out the message and decode
- 39:30Speaker 1: it and how some folks are sort of like in
- 39:35Speaker 1: 20 years, they're finally showing up and we're supposed to
- 39:38Speaker 1: just like do stuff. And then other people who are like, yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 1: it's been 20 years and I'm fucking ready. I've been
- 39:43Speaker 1: waiting for this the whole time. I can't wait. Let's
- 39:46Speaker 1: fucking go. And it is, A really, it's a understandable
- 39:56Speaker 1: divide that some people are feeling like, what if this
- 40:01Speaker 1: is even like a trick? You know, this is leading
- 40:04Speaker 1: us to believe that they're some of the old crew.
- 40:08Speaker 1: But people have been saying they've been seeing ghosts. so
- 40:13Speaker 1: what if that's all this is, is somebody thinking like,
- 40:15Speaker 1: oh yeah, let's, let's team up because they're back. And
- 40:18Speaker 1: it's really just their ghosts walking around, which, um, I
- 40:23Speaker 1: guess in this universe could be a genuine concern. Have
- 40:26Speaker 1: we seen ghosts in one piece? Have we seen anything
- 40:31Speaker 1: like that? I'm trying to remember if this is something
- 40:33Speaker 1: that has occurred. We've seen like the, the spooky depression
- 40:37Speaker 1: ghosts that, uh, what's her name? Like, That's a different thing.
- 40:43Speaker 1: That's a result of her power. So I don't feel
- 40:49Speaker 1: like that's really the same as like a naturally occurring ghost,
- 40:52Speaker 1: so to speak. Seraphim says tattoos in general are not
- 40:57Speaker 1: a common thing in Japanese culture. So anyone having one
- 41:02Speaker 1: at all is kind of rare. Well, I don't just mean,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I mean like the One Piece fandom, right? you know,
- 41:08Speaker 1: like I could see this, people love getting fandom tattoos,
- 41:12Speaker 1: you know? So I would think if I were getting
- 41:14Speaker 1: a one piece tattoo, there would probably be all kinds of,
- 41:19Speaker 1: but I think this one would be kind of fun
- 41:21Speaker 1: as just like a slightly more deep cut instead of
- 41:24Speaker 1: just getting like the straw hats, you know, Jolly Roger
- 41:29Speaker 1: or something. This is a little bit less obvious and
- 41:33Speaker 1: immediately recognizable, but like, If you're a super fan, you
- 41:39Speaker 1: might clock it right away. I don't know. But so anyway,
- 41:44Speaker 1: there's a variety of people. They're all men because that's
- 41:48Speaker 1: how this show just is, which is tragic. But what
- 41:50Speaker 1: can you do? Who are all getting this message? A
- 41:55Speaker 1: couple of them have really cool looks. There's one dude
- 41:59Speaker 1: who has got either tattoos or face paint that are
- 42:04Speaker 1: reminiscent of like a ceremonial mask almost with really really
- 42:09Speaker 1: intense eyebrows mustache and like a beard what do you
- 42:14Speaker 1: call it goatee it may simply be his actual hair
- 42:18Speaker 1: and it just looks like tattoos but they're so bold
- 42:23Speaker 1: that they look like paint to me there's also a
- 42:28Speaker 1: guy who he has got like much more narrow eyes
- 42:34Speaker 1: like you can't really see the color of his eyes
- 42:38Speaker 1: and a slash over one eye and what do you
- 42:42Speaker 1: call it shoulder length like lavender hair and his look
- 42:47Speaker 1: is really cool if I were going to be like
- 42:50Speaker 1: casting somebody to play him. The first person that I
- 42:55Speaker 1: thought of, because he's got a very long face and
- 42:57Speaker 1: delicate features. I immediately thought of Benedict Cumberbatch for some reason.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I was just like, I don't know. I feel like
- 43:03Speaker 1: he can make this work. Seraphim is saying other than Perona,
- 43:10Speaker 1: not really other than a few bits that are more symbolic,
- 43:12Speaker 1: but not really anything ghost related. I can recall. Okay. Yeah. There's,
- 43:18Speaker 1: there's like the spirit of the Mary, Mary, that's not
- 43:24Speaker 1: really quite a ghost, but it's like in the neighborhood,
- 43:29Speaker 1: I suppose. Um, yeah, that's the closest I think though,
- 43:36Speaker 1: that I can remember because like the point of what
- 43:40Speaker 1: most people think ghosts are does tend to be like,
- 43:44Speaker 1: it's somebody's spirit walking the earth. So the spirit of
- 43:48Speaker 1: the Mary is probably as similar as anything. Um, I
- 43:57Speaker 1: wonder if the sunny has a spirit yet. We haven't
- 44:00Speaker 1: heard mention of it, but the Mary was such a,
- 44:04Speaker 1: I wonder if you look at the number of episodes
- 44:06Speaker 1: at this point, which ship they've had longer, if it's
- 44:09Speaker 1: been the sunny still, or if the, or I mean, sorry,
- 44:14Speaker 1: if it's been the Mary that they've had the longest still,
- 44:16Speaker 1: or if the sunny has finally overtaken it. Um, So, okay.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I'm jumping ahead a little bit again here. We go
- 44:28Speaker 1: over to the, uh, the factory area. We see, uh,
- 44:33Speaker 1: kid just like gorging himself as he is eating out
- 44:38Speaker 1: of this huge pile because Luffy still hasn't caught on
- 44:42Speaker 1: to the way that Kaido is operating yet. So Kaido
- 44:45Speaker 1: currently has got all of these dumplings all to himself. Um,
- 44:51Speaker 1: And then we have a couple of officials who are
- 44:57Speaker 1: meeting in this room. And this was a... One of
- 45:01Speaker 1: them is laughing and saying, no, we don't require a Gesha.
- 45:04Speaker 1: And sends this dude away. And we have Nami and...
- 45:10Speaker 1: What is her name? Seraphim... says it's mentioned that a
- 45:18Speaker 1: ship only grows a spirit like that after having spent
- 45:20Speaker 1: a long time being loved and taken care of. So
- 45:23Speaker 1: the Sunny might be too young to have grown her own. Shinobu.
- 45:27Speaker 1: That's it. Shinobu. Um, her, her constant jokes about a
- 45:33Speaker 1: mature woman. I feel like they should be getting older
- 45:37Speaker 1: than they are. Like, I don't, I don't find them
- 45:40Speaker 1: really funny, but I, Something about them is very delightful
- 45:47Speaker 1: to me. And I'm not even, I think maybe it's
- 45:50Speaker 1: simply that older women just don't really get a showcase ever.
- 45:56Speaker 1: And even though it sucks that it's like she's very
- 45:58Speaker 1: much the butt of a joke where I can't believe
- 46:01Speaker 1: that she thinks she has any appeal whatsoever when she's
- 46:06Speaker 1: so obviously a frumpy hag. Even so, I still kind
- 46:13Speaker 1: of enjoy it. I can't, I don't know. I can't
- 46:16Speaker 1: help it. But she and Nami are going in to
- 46:22Speaker 1: spy on these dudes. And it is like, it's very embarrassing.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Because she tells Nami, she's able to make a hole
- 46:31Speaker 1: in the wall and a hole in the floor. So
- 46:33Speaker 1: they get through the hole in the wall. And then
- 46:35Speaker 1: the hole in the floor, they're like watching these guys
- 46:38Speaker 1: blow up. with a telescope. It's actually kind of insane
- 46:43Speaker 1: that they're using this because I can't imagine that helps
- 46:45Speaker 1: all that much. They're like 10 feet away. But, Nami, like,
- 46:51Speaker 1: Shinobu says to her, above all else, make sure to
- 46:55Speaker 1: be quiet. And then Nami makes all this noise, like,
- 46:59Speaker 1: almost immediately. And I was just like, girl, oh my god, like, just,
- 47:05Speaker 1: Nami is usually competent. And the way that she just
- 47:11Speaker 1: So these dudes look up, see the two of them,
- 47:15Speaker 1: immediately are on the hunt. And Shinobu, it turns out,
- 47:20Speaker 1: has a terrible fear of sharp objects. So when these
- 47:26Speaker 1: guys begin to just like shove their swords through the
- 47:30Speaker 1: ceiling to try and get at them, she is losing
- 47:34Speaker 1: her shit and just like screaming and screaming. So even
- 47:39Speaker 1: though Nami is the one who made the noise initially,
- 47:41Speaker 1: Shinobu is the one who really starts to just be, like,
- 47:44Speaker 1: way too obvious about the whole thing. They are able to...
- 47:50Speaker 1: I think it's Nami who, like, makes cat sounds. So
- 47:53Speaker 1: she's able to fool them into thinking that at a
- 47:56Speaker 1: certain point that, like, oh, you're just chasing a cat.
- 47:58Speaker 1: That's not people. Long story short, they are able to
- 48:05Speaker 1: make it back out on the roof and... She notices
- 48:11Speaker 1: that the wind is like in the right direction, Shinobu.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And she's like, ah, this'll work. And she just whips
- 48:20Speaker 1: out a fucking hang glider and grabs Nami and jumps
- 48:25Speaker 1: on this thing and they make their getaway. And it
- 48:28Speaker 1: is the most boss moment. I can't, like, this is
- 48:34Speaker 1: so rad. Sarah from this in the chat saying ninja kites. No, see,
- 48:41Speaker 1: this is what I was going to ask. Is this
- 48:44Speaker 1: a real thing? And honestly, I know anything in a
- 48:48Speaker 1: cartoon is going to be somewhat exaggerated, right? But like,
- 48:53Speaker 1: if you're a ninja, I have to imagine you're probably
- 49:01Speaker 1: quite small and light. So you would be ideal. for
- 49:08Speaker 1: something like this. What I keep thinking of is in
- 49:12Speaker 1: the Dandelion Dynasty book series, which I highly recommend, and
- 49:16Speaker 1: it is based in a Japan accent. sort of fantasy world.
- 49:22Speaker 1: There is a point where they're beginning to produce these
- 49:25Speaker 1: airships and they are almost always piloted by women because
- 49:33Speaker 1: you have to be short and light in order to
- 49:38Speaker 1: be able to fit in the area that's small enough
- 49:41Speaker 1: to get a loft and steer it and do certain things.
- 49:44Speaker 1: So women wind up being the primary, um, air force
- 49:50Speaker 1: of this army eventually, which does track, you know, not
- 49:55Speaker 1: that all women are small and light, but by and large,
- 49:58Speaker 1: they're more likely to be small and light than men. and,
- 50:05Speaker 1: The moment that she pulls this kite out, there was
- 50:07Speaker 1: just something about it that I was like, this I
- 50:11Speaker 1: know is a very cartoony way to depict this, but
- 50:16Speaker 1: I could see something like this actually working to a degree,
- 50:20Speaker 1: not necessarily that you can like fly all the way
- 50:23Speaker 1: across town, but that, you know, if you're in the
- 50:26Speaker 1: battlements of a castle, maybe you could get down to
- 50:30Speaker 1: the ground quite quickly. And, you know, Seraphim says, this
- 50:36Speaker 1: is one of those, everyone believes it was a real
- 50:39Speaker 1: thing Ninja did, but there's no direct evidence of it things.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And yeah, Ninja did have to maintain a low weight.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Makes sense. Yeah, I could see it being a thing,
- 50:50Speaker 1: but I could also see it being the sort of
- 50:53Speaker 1: thing that like, well, it's better than nothing, but you
- 50:58Speaker 1: don't really, you know, it could just keep you from
- 51:01Speaker 1: actually dying, but not necessarily being crippled by a fall.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Who knows? But it was just a really great moment.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I enjoy Shinobu. She's a, she's a real little weirdo.
- 51:11Speaker 1: And like I said, once she gets back to like
- 51:14Speaker 1: the group, Nami sees that fucking Sanji is just schmoozing women.
- 51:19Speaker 1: And it's just like, wow. Okay. So you've just been
- 51:21Speaker 1: wasting all our time. Cool. So briefly at the end
- 51:27Speaker 1: of the first episode, we have Jack who is getting
- 51:33Speaker 1: yelled at by king and queen who are two different
- 51:39Speaker 1: characters with that as their actual names queen is fat
- 51:51Speaker 1: wearing I believe no shirt but suspenders and I'm trying
- 51:58Speaker 1: to detect like whether or not this is their hair
- 52:01Speaker 1: tied back in a ponytail or something that's a piece
- 52:03Speaker 1: of clothing there's like what looks like blonde hair, but
- 52:06Speaker 1: I don't think is. And Queen also has some really
- 52:11Speaker 1: intense dark purple lipstick and like face makeup. And let's see,
- 52:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to see. Oh yeah, no, it is a ponytail.
- 52:22Speaker 1: It is. And a mustache, a matching blonde mustache. And
- 52:28Speaker 1: Queen's got these like goggles kind of things on. Um, and, oh, right, right, right, right, right.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Seraphim is saying King, Queen, Jack plays into the theme
- 52:41Speaker 1: of most of the high levels having card game based names.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I keep forgetting about that. Um, and Queen is smoking
- 52:48Speaker 1: a cigar and, uh, King has a, it's like SS
- 53:00Speaker 1: officer uniform, uh, except made out of armor almost. And
- 53:06Speaker 1: then has the intense like helmet neck piece thing that
- 53:15Speaker 1: has spikes all over it. And it also has what
- 53:19Speaker 1: looks like goggles, but they are not over King's eyes
- 53:23Speaker 1: as if the helmet is like pushed back up off
- 53:26Speaker 1: its face, but it is supposed to come all the
- 53:29Speaker 1: way down normally, you know? It's a weird couple of looks.
- 53:34Speaker 1: They both kind of give steampunk dominatrix a little bit.
- 53:42Speaker 1: But they don't seem to like each other at all.
- 53:47Speaker 1: They're calling each other like sickos and weirdos and perverts
- 53:51Speaker 1: like back and forth. And caught in the middle of
- 53:56Speaker 1: this is Jack. They call him Jack the Stooge. which
- 54:02Speaker 1: is pretty harsh. And evidently he's in some trouble. Kaido
- 54:10Speaker 1: is not happy. And they tell him that he's on
- 54:17Speaker 1: thin ice and he is sweating and knows that he
- 54:22Speaker 1: is in trouble. At this point, King says, Queen, you
- 54:26Speaker 1: shouldn't be so confident because those punks should be begging
- 54:30Speaker 1: for mercy right now. So what is taking so long?
- 54:33Speaker 1: They're going to be running that prison. And Queen says, sorry,
- 54:38Speaker 1: I don't accept criticism from perverts. And King gets really mad.
- 54:45Speaker 1: And that's the end of the episode. It just goes
- 54:47Speaker 1: to be continued and it smash cuts. I was just like,
- 54:52Speaker 1: what a weird spot. to end that is such a
- 54:57Speaker 1: I just found that to be a puzzling place and
- 55:03Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm not alone in that but there we
- 55:06Speaker 1: are so I'm jumping into let's see trying to make
- 55:11Speaker 1: sure I get to this other spot here because I
- 55:15Speaker 1: know that there was another thing that I didn't get
- 55:16Speaker 1: to talk about yet oh yeah okay so We go
- 55:24Speaker 1: to the smiths where all of these slaves are beating
- 55:27Speaker 1: the iron and there's just the weapons production and whatnot
- 55:35Speaker 1: that we're getting to see a little bit more of
- 55:37Speaker 1: an inside view. And this is when we have the
- 55:39Speaker 1: moment with the old man who drops his millet dumpling
- 55:44Speaker 1: and almost gets beat up and Luffy and Kid competing
- 55:48Speaker 1: to bring these blocks and they get all of these,
- 55:54Speaker 1: like this pile of food, which it's very funny because
- 55:57Speaker 1: later on this hippopotamus guy is like, why the fuck
- 56:04Speaker 1: didn't you save me any food? And basically the guards
- 56:09Speaker 1: are like, they earned the food fair and square according
- 56:13Speaker 1: to the rules. Like, what do you want us to
- 56:15Speaker 1: just not do what we've been doing? And, I couldn't
- 56:22Speaker 1: help but laugh a little bit about this because people
- 56:25Speaker 1: are this way where it's like you guys have no
- 56:27Speaker 1: problem just flouting so many elements of ethics and humanity.
- 56:35Speaker 1: But then you're just like, I'm sorry, but the ticketing
- 56:38Speaker 1: system for the millet dumplings is sacrosanct. And we are
- 56:42Speaker 1: never going to not give a person a millet dumpling
- 56:46Speaker 1: for a ticket. That would be wrong. Okay. Oh my God.
- 56:55Speaker 1: So they are stuffing themselves, but also like yelling at
- 57:00Speaker 1: one another as they are eating. And I'm just like,
- 57:03Speaker 1: can you guys please focus? Or if you're not going
- 57:06Speaker 1: to eat because you're so busy fighting, just fucking share,
- 57:10Speaker 1: you know, go ahead. There's a lot of people saying
- 57:15Speaker 1: throughout this episode also that, That's not how the human
- 57:18Speaker 1: body works, which I understand how, yes, no, it's not.
- 57:27Speaker 1: And I've frequently said this myself. But like the world
- 57:31Speaker 1: that you live in, nothing functions the way it should
- 57:36Speaker 1: because you have a man who lives inside the mouth
- 57:39Speaker 1: of a hippopotamus. You know, like, I don't know. I
- 57:45Speaker 1: just feel like taking issue with the way they can
- 57:48Speaker 1: eat when that guy is who is in charge. I
- 57:53Speaker 1: don't think you should be surprised by this or preoccupied
- 57:55Speaker 1: by it at all. But that's just me. Whatever. So
- 58:02Speaker 1: here it comes. General Dobon. And Dobon, it's wild because basically,
- 58:09Speaker 1: even though he's like, mad at the guards who gave
- 58:13Speaker 1: the food away. He's also mad at Luffy and Kid
- 58:18Speaker 1: on a personal level. Like, I can't believe you would
- 58:22Speaker 1: take my food. I have two mouths to feed. Didn't
- 58:27Speaker 1: you think about that? Like, there's a sense of you
- 58:31Speaker 1: knew what you were doing. They don't know you, dude.
- 58:33Speaker 1: What are you talking about? And he really decides that
- 58:37Speaker 1: he is going to play it tough. This guy... is
- 58:42Speaker 1: in the middle of talking and the, the giant hippo
- 58:47Speaker 1: whose mouth he lives in closes its mouth. And then
- 58:51Speaker 1: everybody is just like, I can never understand him when
- 58:53Speaker 1: he does this. I don't get why he does. I
- 58:57Speaker 1: was cracking up the way that everybody's got this like
- 59:01Speaker 1: animal based power, but with all of them, there is
- 59:04Speaker 1: something really not great about how it operates because what
- 59:10Speaker 1: a weird series of fucking failed experiments I want to
- 59:17Speaker 1: say like okay being being inaudible because the hippo closes
- 59:25Speaker 1: its mouth around you I suppose is probably less bad
- 59:28Speaker 1: than being punched in the dick repeatedly by the lion
- 59:32Speaker 1: around your waist, I guess. But, uh, the, the, he's
- 59:38Speaker 1: like riding in the hippo with his feet sticking out
- 59:44Speaker 1: of the bottom where the tusks would kind of be.
- 59:49Speaker 1: The hippos don't have tusks on the bottom. They come out,
- 59:54Speaker 1: they come from the bottom upward usually. But, um, the
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: whole setup, it's almost looking like he's sitting in like
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a golf cart and the golf carts decorated to look
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: like a hippopotamus or something, you know? So it's just
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: a really weird. And like, I don't know if I
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: have mentioned this before, but I am personally a big
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: fan of the hippopotamus. Like if I were going to
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: pick an animal whose power I could control, The hippo
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: would be pretty high up on that list. What I
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: love is because I believe hippos are responsible for more
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: deaths than any other animal on the continent of Africa,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken. They're super deadly. They're really fucking ornery.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: And even though they look like they're fat because they're
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: so roundy, They are actually almost 100% solid muscle. There's
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: very little body fat. So what that means is because
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: they have no buoyancy because they're so muscular, they can
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: just run on the river bottom or lake bottom of
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: a body of water at full speed because they weigh
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: so much they drop. They don't float. And you can
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: watch videos of people who are on boats. They're fucking speedboats.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And there's like a wake coming toward them at a
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: rate of speed that is like alarming. And it's a
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: hippo charging underwater. And then the hippo will surface. And
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: that hippo is always like 10 feet ahead of the wake.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: So it's always so startling. Once they come to the surface,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: they are way closer than you thought they were going
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: to be. It's so scary. It's like the most intimidating shit. And,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: you know, hippos are just they're so funny looking and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: they're so like roundy and fat looking that I think
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: they've just taken this place in a lot of our
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: imaginations as like a friendly children's character. And they are
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: absolute fucking monsters. And so that's what I love about
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: them is I am similarly a very roundy. And for me,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: I have significantly more body fat than a hippo. But
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I am super muscular as well. And capable of a
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: lot more than people would assume. And I just love
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: the fact that they are dismissed by folks who don't
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: know any better. And then they turn out to be
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: these absolute terrors who are so dangerous. I just think
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: that's great. I love that. So anyway, I have a
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: real soft spot for hippos. And I... This guy, it's
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: such a bummer because it's just like, what a waste.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this like Oda wasted it because
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: obviously the point is that all of these fucking smile
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: fruits are just not quite right. So like we got
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: to make it, we got to make it just weird.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: But I am a little bit sad because I'd love
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: to see a genuine hippo power and how great that
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: could be. if we were really going to do something
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: with that in earnest, you know. But, you know, what
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: are you going to do? So anyway, he, like, swallows
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Luffy and Kid, and everybody is just like, oh, it's
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: like a torture chamber in there. Get ready for the screaming. But,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: of course, these two, once the smoke clears, so to speak,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: they just fuck this guy right up. The fucking... he
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: goes flying up into the air and there's just like
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: punching and kicking noises coming from inside. And then the
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: poor hippos got blood coming out of its nose. I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: just don't like the involvement of this actual hippo looking face.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: It made me so sad. Um, but everybody is watching
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: and is just like, wait, what the fuck just happened?
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: And kid and Luffy come out and they're walking past
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: one of the, uh, guards and, And they're carrying the
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: old man, by the way, who had been trapped for
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: a second. And the guard says something like, you're in
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: for it now. You're going to get the death penalty.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: And they just walk right past him. And Kidd says,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: it wasn't us. And he says, what? And Kidd says,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: if you think we did something, prove it. Oh. Oh, damn. Damn. Yeah,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: we've got all these witnesses, but nobody's going to like,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: you know, well, maybe somebody could be swayed with a
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: bribe or something. But we don't have security cameras or anything.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: So Luffy and Kid are teamed up right now. And
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I am interested to see how this goes because I've
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: been sort of interested in Kid. He's the one that
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: hasn't seemed like open to being an ally at all.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: And now that we're being put in this position where
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: we kind of have to, I'll be curious to see
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: how he behaves with all of this. Seraphim says, they're
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: the one creature that Steve Irwin was terrified of. Oh,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I didn't know that, but like that tracks. The mouth
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: was closed. No one saw anything, says Seraphim. Indeed. Yeah,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: he kicked his own ass. Prove that didn't happen. All right.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I'm over time, so I got to wrap up. But yeah,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I really enjoyed these two episodes a lot. Looking forward
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: to the next section. Glad to be back. Thank you
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: guys for listening. And until next time, toodaloo, motherfuckers. That
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: was an unspoiled network podcast.
