- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the favorites from the Volume Podcast Network. I'm
- 0:12Speaker 1: your guest host this week, Kristin Moakman out of HR,
- 0:15Speaker 1: also known as VPF People Operations. You're at Action Chad
- 0:18Speaker 1: Moman maybe off this week, but it's still Thursday, so
- 0:21Speaker 1: that means it's time to enter the Thursday thunder Dough.
- 0:26Speaker 1: On today's show, our special guests will compete alongside professional
- 0:30Speaker 1: sports better Simon Hunter in an epic test of wagers
- 0:34Speaker 1: and wits that's made this show the shimmering crown jewel
- 0:37Speaker 1: of the Action Networks media portfolio. Hi Simon, Hey Chris,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and yeah, I'm excited to be on a show at
- 0:44Speaker 1: the head of HR. I'm trying to think of ways
- 0:46Speaker 1: I can get in trouble right away. Where should we
- 0:48Speaker 1: start with? We start with the first time that I
- 0:49Speaker 1: was like, Wow, this one's really attractive, and I looked
- 0:52Speaker 1: it up and I saw your married with kids, and
- 0:54Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I guess I can't hit on
- 0:56Speaker 1: my head of HR now. So that was definitely fun,
- 0:59Speaker 1: but I feel like that's a good way to ice
- 1:01Speaker 1: break it right. Yeah, although I don't think you've told
- 1:03Speaker 1: me that before, so now I I don't know all right,
- 1:06Speaker 1: We're just going to shock at all. That's how we
- 1:08Speaker 1: do it on this podcast. I like to just wake
- 1:09Speaker 1: people up, all right. Your first challenger is a return
- 1:15Speaker 1: guest to the Favorites. He's a former Boston Celtics ball boy,
- 1:18Speaker 1: a current senior writer for Sports Illustrated, and you can
- 1:22Speaker 1: hear him on the Crossover podcast with Howard Back and
- 1:25Speaker 1: on the Boxing with Chris Mannix podcast on our beloved
- 1:29Speaker 1: Volume podcast network. Welcome back to the show, Chris Mannix.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I thank you. I don't have a good story like that,
- 1:35Speaker 1: but I'm glad to be here. Good So no HR
- 1:38Speaker 1: violation so far for you. All right, And Simon, your
- 1:41Speaker 1: second challenger is one of the most beloved members of
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Action Network, our senior NBA writer, NBA podcast host,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and one of the most respected hoops journalists in the
- 1:50Speaker 1: game today. A man for whom no take is too hot.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Welcome back to the show, Matt More. I am very
- 1:55Speaker 1: pleased to be professionally here with my head of HR
- 1:58Speaker 1: in a professional setting saying absolutely nothing that could get
- 2:02Speaker 1: me in trouble. I'm not going down in this one. Simon,
- 2:05Speaker 1: You're going down on your own. Live a little mad.
- 2:08Speaker 1: It's fun. Okay, nice to see Matt. All right, So
- 2:12Speaker 1: here's how the game is played today. You'll answer two
- 2:14Speaker 1: kinds of questions. First, traditional trivia questions about sports, sports, betting,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and the world at large. Second, completely subjective and totally
- 2:23Speaker 1: asinine open ended questions or prompts that I alone will judge.
- 2:26Speaker 1: To accumulate points. You must answer the trivia questions correctly
- 2:29Speaker 1: and also convinced me that your responses to those open
- 2:33Speaker 1: ended prompts are better than the responses of your opponents.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So let's begin Part one, going for Gold. The opening
- 2:39Speaker 1: ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo are tomorrow, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: already the American Olympic men's basketball team has endored a
- 2:46Speaker 1: whole season's worth of turmoil. The United States remains a
- 2:50Speaker 1: minusport hundred favorite to take home the gold. But for now,
- 2:53Speaker 1: let's test your knowledge on some Olympic performances from years
- 2:57Speaker 1: past with some two part questions. All right, Chris. Since
- 3:00Speaker 1: n this US team has won gold in six of
- 3:05Speaker 1: the seven Summer Games. But despite boasting this Hall of
- 3:09Speaker 1: Fame big man, back in two thousand four, America lost
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the semifinals thanks to a blistering performance from his
- 3:16Speaker 1: NBA teammate, this famous Argentinean with whom he'd win four
- 3:21Speaker 1: NBA titles. I'm gonna go with Tim Duncan and manage Genobli.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yes nine, all right, and so far no HR violations either,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan not a fan of Phoba basketball,
- 3:36Speaker 1: never has been. Why is that his famous line was
- 3:40Speaker 1: Phoeba sucks after the OH four Olympics. I believe because
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's just so many rule changes in international game where
- 3:51Speaker 1: it just takes guys to play in the NBA a
- 3:52Speaker 1: long time to adapt them. That was, I believe the
- 3:54Speaker 1: last time we saw Tim Duncan as one of the
- 3:57Speaker 1: USA basketball team. Yeah, I was gonna say that that
- 3:59Speaker 1: was the last time the dunkn play for him, Simon.
- 4:02Speaker 1: The last time our Olympic basketball roster was entirely amateurs
- 4:05Speaker 1: was back in when America won the bronze medal. The
- 4:09Speaker 1: US switched to NBA players after that, which led to
- 4:12Speaker 1: this famous steo becoming the first to win an NBA
- 4:15Speaker 1: title and Olympic gold in the same year. Um, I'm
- 4:19Speaker 1: the named two players, so I'll go Pippin and Jordan's Yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 1: thank you guys, Thank you, Simon. Although he's never won
- 4:29Speaker 1: an NBA title, this player does have a record three
- 4:33Speaker 1: Olympic Gold medals in basketball to go along with an
- 4:36Speaker 1: NBA scoring title and an n c Double A championship
- 4:40Speaker 1: at Syracuse. The most overrated player in NBA history, Carmelo
- 4:44Speaker 1: Anthony greatest, greatest USA basketball player for sure, though that
- 4:49Speaker 1: could be true, his career is defined by the success
- 4:52Speaker 1: of his USA teams. That guy, I mean, I think
- 4:54Speaker 1: Durant's gonna probably beat his scoring numbers this cycle. But
- 4:58Speaker 1: Carmelo was built for international play. If Kevin, if Tim
- 5:01Speaker 1: Duncan wasn't, Carmelo is what makes one built for international
- 5:07Speaker 1: play Over the NBA, Carmelo's defensive deficiencies are less glaring.
- 5:12Speaker 1: When you can play two positions the way he did.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You don't see as much three point bombing in international competitions.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And Carmelo is the king of the mid range game.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So there's just a lot of a lot of things
- 5:24Speaker 1: that work for Carmelo in international competitions that get exposed
- 5:29Speaker 1: a little bit in the NBA. But he also played
- 5:31Speaker 1: spot up a lot. That was a big part of
- 5:32Speaker 1: it was he would play spot up alongside Kobe and
- 5:35Speaker 1: Lebron and Wade. In that role, he was great. When
- 5:37Speaker 1: he went to the Knicks, there was this rumor that
- 5:39Speaker 1: was gonna be Tony Parker, Melo and mar and that
- 5:43Speaker 1: would have been I think his career goes down a
- 5:44Speaker 1: lot differently if that trio had actually come together, Okay, maw.
- 5:48Speaker 1: The most indelible moment from America's gold medal Olympic effort
- 5:52Speaker 1: in two thousands came in a preliminary round game against France,
- 5:56Speaker 1: when this twenty three year old American start jumped over
- 5:59Speaker 1: step on foot to center Frederick Weiss for an epic
- 6:03Speaker 1: jam known as le duc de la morte or the
- 6:06Speaker 1: dunk of death. In Brents, it's Vince Carter. If it's
- 6:10Speaker 1: not the best dunk of all time, it's gonna be
- 6:12Speaker 1: top three. Did it happen in an actual game? Yeah? Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He cleared him in game in a preliminary cleared him
- 6:20Speaker 1: in game, which was a bold choice. Had the Knicks
- 6:23Speaker 1: actually drafted Frederdvice at that point because he never had
- 6:26Speaker 1: a shot after that, Yeah, he was always gonna be
- 6:29Speaker 1: that guy. Yeah, yeah, I mean that was I think
- 6:32Speaker 1: they had already drafted him and he immediately became known
- 6:35Speaker 1: as that guy. And yeah, there was no hope form
- 6:37Speaker 1: after that. He could have been the David Robinson of
- 6:40Speaker 1: international games. It wouldn't have mattered. Like he's He's just
- 6:43Speaker 1: known as the guy that got dunked on by Vince Carter.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Speaking of Vince Carter math, Vince Carter would play for
- 6:48Speaker 1: eight teams in his NBA career without getting one wrong,
- 6:53Speaker 1: named Six Raptors, Magic, Sons, Hawk, New Jersey. I think
- 7:02Speaker 1: you played for Dallas. Yes, he also played for the
- 7:07Speaker 1: Grizzlies and the Kings. Here is a better question. Now
- 7:11Speaker 1: you all get to respond. In nineteen seventy two, the
- 7:14Speaker 1: ending of the gold medal basketball game between America and
- 7:18Speaker 1: the USSR was so fishy that the players unanimously agreed
- 7:23Speaker 1: to not accept their silver medals. One player wrote into
- 7:27Speaker 1: his will that his heirs were forbidden from accepting on
- 7:30Speaker 1: his behalf even after his death. If you won an
- 7:32Speaker 1: Olympic gold medal, what would happen to it after your death?
- 7:35Speaker 1: And what instructions would you leave? I would just I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I feel like it's generational, you pass it down to
- 7:42Speaker 1: to a child. And the only instructions I would leave
- 7:46Speaker 1: is I don't care what scumbag great great grandchild I have.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You can't sell it, It can never ever be sold.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't know where my lineage will go
- 7:55Speaker 1: down the line, but I don't want that thing to
- 7:57Speaker 1: wind up on you know, the twenty second century version
- 8:00Speaker 1: of eBay at some point in Darren Ravel's office. So
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'm have a different mind on this. Johan has just
- 8:08Speaker 1: taught us that the past is ego, right, the past,
- 8:11Speaker 1: the past is all ego. And I would leave instructions
- 8:15Speaker 1: that if my kids wanted it, they get to have it,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but then after that it gets and if they don't
- 8:21Speaker 1: want it, or after they pass it on, it gets
- 8:24Speaker 1: sent to some sort of university or a scientific organization
- 8:28Speaker 1: and auctioned off to help people. Because I just you
- 8:31Speaker 1: can't hold onto these things. You can't be so prideful
- 8:32Speaker 1: about your accomplishments that you lose sight of moving forward.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Because that's my mindset on that. That's what's too sappy
- 8:41Speaker 1: that I'm sorry, that's what I think. I say this
- 8:44Speaker 1: as someone that like right outside this door behind me,
- 8:47Speaker 1: like has you know every cover story I've written for
- 8:50Speaker 1: Sports Illustrated, like frame that I look at every morning
- 8:53Speaker 1: so I'm not give it away anything. That's yeah, Chris,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I was like when I heard the whole speech about Yanna.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It's a nice group for thought, but I'm like, dude,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I can't tell you how often I wake up I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think about my past, Like every day. I'm one of
- 9:05Speaker 1: those people. It's like, how did I get where I'm
- 9:07Speaker 1: at in life? I feel like so blessed. So it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: good to review your past, but I guess, yeah, not
- 9:11Speaker 1: living in it. I'm I'm crazy about this gold medal thing.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I feel like I already don't trust my unborn kids.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I don't know why. I just worry they're gonna be
- 9:18Speaker 1: a little scumbag. So I'd probably donate it to my
- 9:21Speaker 1: like old high school, so at least, like I know,
- 9:23Speaker 1: for the rest of time, people walk by, like whose
- 9:25Speaker 1: gold medal is that? Like, oh, it's Simon Hunters. It's like, Okay,
- 9:28Speaker 1: at least someone's remembering me other than my kids pointed
- 9:31Speaker 1: in Las Vegas to go hit the craps table. I
- 9:33Speaker 1: couldn't handle that. So yeah, I definitely would donate it
- 9:35Speaker 1: to my high school. So you care about what happens
- 9:37Speaker 1: after you're gone, I don't. That's the differences, I don't
- 9:39Speaker 1: care about it. Also, I feel like my kid would
- 9:41Speaker 1: just be like cool and then just throw it in
- 9:44Speaker 1: a drawer. While that's that's what happened. It would be
- 9:47Speaker 1: used as a coaster for while he's playing video games. Okay,
- 9:50Speaker 1: none of you guys got this right, because there's only
- 9:52Speaker 1: one clear thing you can do, which is put it
- 9:54Speaker 1: in a glass box in a beautiful office so that
- 9:57Speaker 1: your future ice skating convert from hockey boyfriend played by
- 10:01Speaker 1: DV Sweeney can come in and admire it. Allah the
- 10:06Speaker 1: cutting edge, Please find some place else to put your
- 10:10Speaker 1: clubs man, when I love to see you play hockey
- 10:17Speaker 1: any day. A reference? What are your reference? That is
- 10:23Speaker 1: absolutely what should have happened to the gold medal? And well,
- 10:26Speaker 1: the clear winner is Matt More because he's doing something
- 10:30Speaker 1: good with the proceeds of his gold medal. However, I'm
- 10:34Speaker 1: also pleased to know that both Simon and Chris are
- 10:36Speaker 1: highly concerned with the future offspring in their lineage. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: don't know if both of you use the word scumbag,
- 10:43Speaker 1: but it was an interesting There's gonna be some deep
- 10:46Speaker 1: Irish scumbag in my family, I'm sure of it. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I was Dennist and menace as a kid, so like
- 10:51Speaker 1: my kid is going to be straight out of hell.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I have no doubt about that. All right, well again,
- 10:57Speaker 1: dB Sweeney would like to be admiring my gold medal
- 10:59Speaker 1: and sure in a tuxedo during a New Year's Eve party.
- 11:03Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna move on to part two, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna get it better in an attempt to overthrow
- 11:07Speaker 1: Chad and claim this as my future job and kick
- 11:10Speaker 1: Chad out of hosting the Thursday Thunderdome. Please do I
- 11:13Speaker 1: like your voice so much more than Chad's. Chad's like
- 11:15Speaker 1: high pitched, nailsy voice. It's it's a blessing. When I
- 11:17Speaker 1: look away to hear your voice, I'm like, oh, this
- 11:19Speaker 1: is nice. You also haven't had a thirty minute interrogating
- 11:21Speaker 1: interrogation of your love life, so there that's a plus too. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: that's true. You're very You're much nicer to me. Okay,
- 11:29Speaker 1: so part two here we go. It's getting it's getting
- 11:31Speaker 1: heated now. The Bucks captured their second NBA title this week,
- 11:34Speaker 1: delivering a much deserved championship to the city of Milwaukee,
- 11:38Speaker 1: also known as also known as the Barras of the
- 11:42Speaker 1: Midwest and the buckle of America's Gary Belt. So in
- 11:46Speaker 1: honor of their beloved Giannice, who was named Finals Most
- 11:49Speaker 1: Valuable Player in a unanimous position. Let's look back at
- 11:53Speaker 1: some other NBA Finals MVPs maw Now that Janice secured
- 11:58Speaker 1: the award, he joins this player as the only NBA
- 12:01Speaker 1: Finals MVP in the history of the Milwaukee Bucks. Kareem
- 12:04Speaker 1: abdul Jabbar. No, well, maybe, Alison door Is that was
- 12:13Speaker 1: a trick question. No, No, I'll take it. That's fair,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that's fair. I'll take the l Yeah, alright, Chris, now
- 12:22Speaker 1: that you're you figured that one out, Chris. The first
- 12:25Speaker 1: NBA Finals MVP was also the only player to win
- 12:28Speaker 1: one in a losing effort. Made that player, Oh God,
- 12:33Speaker 1: first Finals m v P, Bill Russell. It's the logo.
- 12:39Speaker 1: It's a Jerry West. Jerry West. Take it. I'll take
- 12:42Speaker 1: the win on that one. Jerry West. Yes, Jerry West
- 12:46Speaker 1: is correct, all right, Simon. The NBA Finals MVP award
- 12:50Speaker 1: is named after this player, who won eleven NBA Championships
- 12:55Speaker 1: as a player, plus two more as a coach to
- 12:58Speaker 1: go along with his two MC double l A titles
- 13:00Speaker 1: and an Olympic Gold Medal. Oh my god, that's so
- 13:04Speaker 1: many awards. What's his name, Bill Russell. Yes, let's go.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Nice work, here we go. The Bill Russell NBA Finals
- 13:13Speaker 1: Most Valuable Player Award is arguably the most appropriately named
- 13:17Speaker 1: trophy in all of sports. If you could rename or
- 13:21Speaker 1: rededicate any award in sports, what would you choose and
- 13:25Speaker 1: what would you name it? And I'm gonna Latin Matt
- 13:28Speaker 1: answer this one first. I would like to rename the
- 13:30Speaker 1: NBA Community Assist Award the lou Williams Award for all
- 13:34Speaker 1: the work that he's done with local folks in various establishments.
- 13:40Speaker 1: As I'm not going to say what type of establishment
- 13:42Speaker 1: as I am on a podcast with my head of
- 13:44Speaker 1: HR so that's got good chicken wings, good great chicken wings,
- 13:50Speaker 1: just amazing chicken wings. Worth what kind of community assistance?
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't know anything about this award. Just he's done
- 13:57Speaker 1: a lot for young women that are trying to make
- 14:00Speaker 1: their way in the world. I'm gonna have to do
- 14:01Speaker 1: some Google searching later, Okay. And I thought you were
- 14:04Speaker 1: like a do gooder here. I was like, oh, we've
- 14:06Speaker 1: got a theme of like giving back. He's given back considerably,
- 14:10Speaker 1: all right, Chris, if you follow this track where you
- 14:14Speaker 1: look at Bill Russell as the greatest team player in
- 14:19Speaker 1: the history of sports, I would rename the NFL m
- 14:23Speaker 1: v P after the greatest team player in the history
- 14:27Speaker 1: of the NFL, which is Boston's own Tom Brady. So
- 14:30Speaker 1: I would uh rename the NFL MVP after a guy
- 14:34Speaker 1: that's gonna be winning that award when he's like forty seven.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So I'm going Tom Brady, all right, Simon. Is the
- 14:39Speaker 1: award like a football that's not quite fully inflated, a
- 14:44Speaker 1: little like a little flat football. Football inflated is defeated
- 14:48Speaker 1: by playing an entire season with the absent meniscus. I'm
- 14:51Speaker 1: gonna call that a more significant accomplishments. There you go.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I've kind of stolen mine from from Chris here. I uh,
- 14:59Speaker 1: I alway wanted them to change right now, the Super
- 15:01Speaker 1: Bowl they called the Lombardi To me, that's really what
- 15:04Speaker 1: he's known for, is all of his world championships before
- 15:06Speaker 1: the NFL's the NFL. So I feel like they should
- 15:08Speaker 1: rename the NFC Championship to Lombardi and then named the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Super Bowl Trophy to the Belichick. I know people love
- 15:14Speaker 1: Brady and I'm with him on the Brady hype. The
- 15:17Speaker 1: guy's seven rings, But if you go back and watch
- 15:20Speaker 1: a lot of that was Brady was great, but a
- 15:22Speaker 1: lot of the early days it's all Belichick. It was
- 15:24Speaker 1: great defense with a great kicker, with a quarterback, didn't
- 15:26Speaker 1: turn the ball over. So if I'm gonna give a
- 15:29Speaker 1: lot of their rings the credits to, I know it's
- 15:31Speaker 1: a split thing, but I give it the Belichick because
- 15:33Speaker 1: he is that coach. So to me, they should just
- 15:35Speaker 1: change the name of Super Bowl to the Belichick. It's
- 15:37Speaker 1: it's truly, that's the name of the trophy. It's a Belichick.
- 15:40Speaker 1: That guy is by far the greatest coach ever. All Right,
- 15:43Speaker 1: well this one was super easy because I went to
- 15:46Speaker 1: the great University of Michigan, as did Tom Brady. So
- 15:51Speaker 1: Chris is the clear winner. I'll take it. That's fair. Okay,
- 15:56Speaker 1: this is a really heated game. We are at a
- 15:58Speaker 1: tie a freeway die with three points each, So Matt three,
- 16:02Speaker 1: Chris three, and Simon three, So we're gonna have to
- 16:05Speaker 1: We're gonna have to figure this out so we can
- 16:06Speaker 1: declare a clear winner. Moving along to Part three, our
- 16:10Speaker 1: theme is Space Jam two, which I actually have not
- 16:13Speaker 1: seen yet, but looks excellent. The Lebron James films Space Jam,
- 16:18Speaker 1: a New Legacy, The highly anticipated sequel to the nine original,
- 16:22Speaker 1: was released last week to scathing reviews. The New York Post,
- 16:26Speaker 1: for example, called it an abomination. In honor of this
- 16:30Speaker 1: dubious occasion, let's test your Space Jam knowledge, Matt. At
- 16:34Speaker 1: over ninety million dollars, the original Space Jam remains the
- 16:37Speaker 1: highest grossing basketball film of all time, just ahead of
- 16:42Speaker 1: this classic featuring Rosie Prez and also my husband's favorite movie,
- 16:47Speaker 1: White Man Can't Jump. Very balance is we go? And
- 16:51Speaker 1: see part. Sometimes when you really lose, sometimes when you lose,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you really win, and sometimes when you want to lose,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you actually time. All right, Chris made specifically for the
- 17:05Speaker 1: movie Space Jam. The classic hit I Believe I Can
- 17:08Speaker 1: Fly won the Grammy for Best Original Music for TV
- 17:12Speaker 1: or Film and was performed by this infamous R and
- 17:15Speaker 1: B legend. Oh God, I'm gonna screw this up. I
- 17:24Speaker 1: feel like this is so easy. Was it sealed? No,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but my husband said this thig last night. I thought
- 17:31Speaker 1: it was sealed for a second. There no no worse
- 17:35Speaker 1: bad reputation. Bobby Brown. No, I mean that's a bad
- 17:40Speaker 1: reputation too. I remember the song, I can hear it
- 17:43Speaker 1: in my head, but I don't know say R Kelly Wow,
- 17:47Speaker 1: R Kelly was around back then, Hobby Hobby spread My
- 18:02Speaker 1: Wings and yeah, that was before Trapped in the Closet.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Damn missed that, alright, simon this once for you When
- 18:12Speaker 1: it was released in almost two dozen NBA players appeared
- 18:16Speaker 1: in the original Space Yeam. Michael Jordan's was one of them.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Five more were some of his championship teammates with the
- 18:24Speaker 1: Chicago Bulls. Without getting one wrong, name two two people
- 18:28Speaker 1: in the movie or two people off the Bulls, well,
- 18:31Speaker 1: two people from the Balls that were in the movie. Okay,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I'll go with uh Scottie Pippen. No, Wow, already wrong.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I have no idea because I saw that movie as
- 18:45Speaker 1: a kid. I remember it was like Larry Bird and
- 18:47Speaker 1: Charles Barkley, but I don't remember anyone from the Bulls, Grant,
- 18:54Speaker 1: the Big Goofy, Dude long Luke Longland, Wennington Longley and
- 19:01Speaker 1: the others recur and Oakley of course was in it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Of course it part three. Make one change to Space
- 19:12Speaker 1: Jam two that would have instantly made it more successful.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And I'm gonna let Matt go first, have Steph Curry
- 19:20Speaker 1: play the villain, and then absolutely it would have. It
- 19:24Speaker 1: would have broken every box office record as every kid
- 19:26Speaker 1: would see it nine hundred million times because if you
- 19:28Speaker 1: don't have if you don't like Lebron, you like Steph
- 19:30Speaker 1: Curry and they could actually root for the bad guy.
- 19:32Speaker 1: That would be very gritty reboot with Steph as the
- 19:37Speaker 1: anti hero villain. All right, Chris, I would incorporate Jordan's.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You know, people that like the original would be more
- 19:46Speaker 1: likely to see it if you know you have Jordan's
- 19:50Speaker 1: Coming to Save the Day or or some version of it.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I think if you're gonna make a sequel to the
- 19:55Speaker 1: exact same movie, it kind of behooves you to have
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jordan and maybe have Bill Murray in it. You know,
- 19:59Speaker 1: have the same cast of characters are part of it
- 20:02Speaker 1: that we're in the original. So I would incorporate the
- 20:04Speaker 1: original guys of that movie. I love Bell Marie. All right, Simon,
- 20:08Speaker 1: I feel bad. I'm I'm in football mode. I'm so disconnected.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I don't even know this movie came out until we
- 20:14Speaker 1: just started this show, so I haven't seen Space James too.
- 20:17Speaker 1: But since people I hate it. I guess make a
- 20:19Speaker 1: PG thirteen. I feel like you can't go wrong when
- 20:21Speaker 1: you up a rating because there's there's jokes that older
- 20:23Speaker 1: people can understand. It seems like people don't understand it's
- 20:26Speaker 1: for little kids. People are like, oh, that movie is terrible.
- 20:28Speaker 1: It's like, dude, you're thirty years old. I don't know
- 20:30Speaker 1: if you're the demographics. So I'm gonna check it out.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But I'll like smoke a ja or maybe eat medric mushrooms,
- 20:36Speaker 1: saying that it's my head of hr again before I
- 20:38Speaker 1: watch this movie, because it's not for it's not for adults,
- 20:41Speaker 1: it's for little kids. So I love the first Space Jam,
- 20:44Speaker 1: so I'm assuming I'm gonna love this one. Oh. Critics
- 20:46Speaker 1: are often you know, dumb in general, because like I'll
- 20:51Speaker 1: die on the hill that Armageddon is a great frigged movie,
- 20:53Speaker 1: And how many scathing reviews has Armageddon had over the years.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I think it has like a If you look up
- 20:59Speaker 1: all the reviews on like Wikipedia, it's got I think
- 21:02Speaker 1: every single one of them by a critic is a
- 21:03Speaker 1: negative review. Bruce Willis want a Razzie for that that movie,
- 21:07Speaker 1: which I find astonishing. I've watched that maybe five hundred times,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and we'll probably watch it five hundred more before I die.
- 21:13Speaker 1: So and no, and you're right. The audience is not
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, forty five year old New York Post writer
- 21:19Speaker 1: or New York Times writer or whatever it is. It's
- 21:22Speaker 1: a twelve year old that might be entertained by it.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Is incredible. But also my favorite scene from like almost
- 21:28Speaker 1: any movie where I think Luke Wilson's like going to
- 21:32Speaker 1: outer space and they asked him, are you excited or whatever?
- 21:35Speaker 1: And he's like, I'm ninety percent excited and tempers that's terrified,
- 21:38Speaker 1: or maybe I'm tem percent excited and year doesn't really
- 21:42Speaker 1: matter anymore. And I say that like all the time
- 21:44Speaker 1: about everything. See, the greatest part of that movie is
- 21:47Speaker 1: the fact that Bruce Willis is shooting a shock on
- 21:49Speaker 1: an oil rig at his girlfriend's his daughter's boyfriend. That's,
- 21:53Speaker 1: to this day on my favorite parts of that movie.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I would have give h Bruce Willis an oscar for
- 21:57Speaker 1: that movie, not a Razzie for that movie. The Russian
- 22:00Speaker 1: dude just trying to fix it and he's like cosmonaut, Yeah, cosmonaut,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and he's and he's talking and he's like Russian components
- 22:06Speaker 1: American components all made in Taiwan. Great line. I like
- 22:10Speaker 1: Bill Murray and I like Armageddon and Christmins. I'll take it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'll congratulate myself there. So Simon is the big loser
- 22:17Speaker 1: right now. Simon is still stuck at three. If he
- 22:20Speaker 1: had gone to see Space Jam, he may have one,
- 22:22Speaker 1: but he did not see Space Jam because he's been
- 22:24Speaker 1: so busy at work. Also, before we go any further here,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I have a word from our friends at FanDuel. One
- 22:31Speaker 1: of the things I love about betting my favorite sports
- 22:33Speaker 1: is that I'm always finding new player props or game
- 22:35Speaker 1: props that I like. That's what's cool about fando sports plicks.
- 22:38Speaker 1: You can go buying these props with other bets from
- 22:40Speaker 1: the same game to score an even bigger payout. It's
- 22:43Speaker 1: called a same game parlay, and you can only find
- 22:45Speaker 1: them on FanDuel. For example, I just went on and
- 22:47Speaker 1: looked at my Phillies. I build the same game parley
- 22:49Speaker 1: Andrew Cutching gets two or more hits and Bryce Harper
- 22:52Speaker 1: hit a home run. It pays over fourteen to one,
- 22:54Speaker 1: just for fun, silly bet to make for a big
- 22:56Speaker 1: potential payout. But same game parlay is just one of
- 22:58Speaker 1: the many reasons I bet with FanDuel. One of these
- 23:00Speaker 1: things I love about fando sports books is easy to use,
- 23:03Speaker 1: easy to register, easy to debase, it, easy to find

- 23:35Speaker 1: in Indiana and one gambler in New Jersey and Virginia.
- 23:40Speaker 1: So matt U f four, Chris, you also have four
- 23:43Speaker 1: and Simon is behind with three. So we're moving on
- 23:47Speaker 1: to our grand finale. The topic is Olympic upsets, So
- 23:52Speaker 1: close your eyes and hold up your fingers to tell
- 23:55Speaker 1: me how much you want to risk with your wager
- 23:57Speaker 1: about okay, great. The US Olympic men's basketball team began
- 24:02Speaker 1: using all NBA players in They would go undefeated in
- 24:06Speaker 1: three consecutive Olympics before suffering their first defeat. In two
- 24:10Speaker 1: thousand four, America's ill fated dream Team three got crushed
- 24:15Speaker 1: in a preliminary round game after an incredible performance by
- 24:20Speaker 1: Carlos Arroyo, the basketball store star of this island Commonwealth,
- 24:25Speaker 1: which is also an unincorporated territory of the United States.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Call them all right, Chris, what is your answer? Uh,
- 24:43Speaker 1: Puerto Rico? Nicely done? How should you wager all my points?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Put it along the line, go bigger, go home? All right, Simon?
- 24:54Speaker 1: I got Puerto Rico, but only at three points. Som
- 24:57Speaker 1: only at six points, so still behind Chris. From then Matt,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I got wrong. I said the bank in Republic, which
- 25:03Speaker 1: is actually incorporated. I realized, and I'd wager one. So
- 25:08Speaker 1: I finished last with three points. Matt is in last
- 25:12Speaker 1: place with three, Simon with six in the middle, and Chris,
- 25:15Speaker 1: our guest, is the big winner with eight points. A
- 25:21Speaker 1: big win for me. That's that's the biggest accomlishment of
- 25:23Speaker 1: the day. I'm telling you we should absolutely name since
- 25:26Speaker 1: this is my one time gig. We should name the
- 25:29Speaker 1: Thursday Thunderdome Trophy after Chris Pannox. Obviously you just named
- 25:33Speaker 1: it after winners and that's uh, that's what I feel
- 25:35Speaker 1: like right now. That's where you are, all right, And
- 25:37Speaker 1: before we sign off, here's a word from our fearless leader,
- 25:40Speaker 1: Action Network CEO, Patrick Keene. This is all right. This
- 25:46Speaker 1: has been The Favorites from the Volume Podcast Network. My

- 25:58Speaker 1: Simon pending a review of his HR file on next
- 26:02Speaker 1: week's The Favorites. Thanks for listening and we'll see you
