- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, September 8 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's feast, father Sylvester Jurgica writes, at the time of Mary's birth, the whole world was plunged in darkness. The heathen nations were steeped in vice and pride. The Jews too had corrupted their ways and departed from God.
- 0:43Everywhere there was sin and gloom, no bright spot on the face of the earth. But when Mary was born, a light arose amid the darkness, the dawn of the glorious day that was to usher in the Redeemer. So too, the darkness of the sinner's soul is dispersed by Mary's holy influence. Where the love of her is born in the soul all becomes full of light and Jesus comes to make his habitation there. Mary in the first hour of her life brought more glory to God than all the saints of the Old Testament.
- 1:33In her were made perfect the obedience of Abraham, the chastity of Joseph, the patience of Job, the meekness of Moses, the prudence of Joshua. It is because she is the model and pattern of these and all other virtues that she can communicate them to us. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit.
- 2:13Hail holy mother, in thy womb there lay a king who bears over earth and heaven endless sway. Joyful are the thoughts that well up from my heart. A king's honor for my theme. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 2:44Hail Holy Mother in thy womb there lay a King who bears over earth and heaven endless sway. The Collect, let us pray. Lord, bestow upon thy servants the gift of heavenly grace, we pray thee, so that we for whom the birth of the Blessed Virgin's child meant the beginning of salvation may find in the worshipful feast of her Nativity increase of peace. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:40A lesson from the book of Proverbs. The Lord made me when he first went about his work at the birth of time before his creation began. Long, long ago before earth was fashioned, I held my course. Already I lay in the womb when the depths were not yet in being, when no springs of water had yet broken. When I was born, the mountains had not yet sunk on their firm foundations, and there were no hills.
- 4:21Not yet had he made earth or the rivers or the solid framework of the world. I was there when he built the heavens, when he fenced in the waters with a vault inviolable, when he fixed the sky overhead, and leveled the fountain springs of the deep. I was there when he enclosed the sea within its confines forbidding the waters to transgress their assigned limits when he poised the foundations of the world. I was at his side, a master workman, my delight increasing with each day as I made my play before him all the while, made play in this world of dust, with the sons of Adam for my play fellows. Listen to me then, you that are my sons, that follow to your happiness in the paths I show you.
- 5:27Listen to the teaching that will make you wise, instead of turning away from it. Blessed are they who listen to me, keep vigil day by day at my threshold, watching till I open my doors. The man who wins me wins life, drinks deep of the Lord's favor. The gradual. Blessed art thou and worshipful, O Virgin Mary, who without loss of maidenhood was found to be the mother of our Savior.
- 6:09Virgin mother of God, he whom the entire world cannot hold, enclosed himself in thy womb and was made man. Alleluia. Alleluia. Happy art thou, Sacred Virgin Mary, and very worthy of all praise. For out of thee arose the son of righteousness, the Christ, our God.
- 6:38Alleluia. The beginning of the gospel according to Matthew. The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zira by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nashon, and Nashon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David, the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Azah, and Azah the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh, father of Amos, and Amos, the father of Josiah, and Josiah, the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
- 8:30And after the deportation to Babylon, Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Akim, and Akim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthen, and Matthen the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. The offertory, Blessed art thou Virgin Mary, who did spare the Creator of the world. Thou gavest birth to him who made thee, yet remainest ever Virgin. The secret. May the incarnation of thine only begotten son, O Lord, come to help us.
- 9:45He whose birth from a maiden did not spoil but sealed her virginity. May he, on this festival of her Nativity, cleanse us from sin and make our offering pleasing in thy sight. Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who with thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The preface of the Immaculate Virgin Mary.
- 10:24It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, and that we should praise and bless and proclaim thee in the Nativity of Blessed Mary ever Virgin, who also conceived Thine only begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost and the glory of her virginity still abiding gave forth to the world the everlasting light Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the powers stand in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the Blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with them we entreat thee that thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with humble praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts.
- 11:44The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
- 12:05Blessed be the womb in which the Virgin Mary bore the son of the eternal father. The post communion. Let us pray. We have received, o Lord, the sacraments offered on this yearly feast. Grant we beseech thee that they may bestow on us remedies both for this present life and for life eternal through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 12:48Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Thy Nativity, oh Virgin Mother of God, was the herald of joy to the whole world since from thee arose the son of justice, Christ our God, who destroying the curse, bestowed the blessing and confounding death, rewarded us with life everlasting. Holy Mary, born this day, pray for us.
