• 1:21
Speaker 2: there is every possible thing going on in the world.
• 1:27
  Speaker 2: Of sports today.
• 1:29
Speaker 4: We just don't enough time.
• 1:31
Speaker 2: There's not gonna be any way that we can actually
• 1:35
Speaker 2: hit everything that is important. But I am certain that
• 1:43
Speaker 2: everybody at this point in time has heard the news
• 1:48
Speaker 2: about what I would say the best athlete ever to
• 1:56
Speaker 2: come out of the state of West Virginia, Randy Moss.
• 1:59
  Speaker 2: And I don't I don't necessarily want to go into
• 2:04
  Speaker 2: a whole host of details because I don't think there's
• 2:07
Speaker 2: a lot of details that a lot of people know.
• 2:10
Speaker 2: But I think not to mention him, not to have
• 2:13
Speaker 2: a discussion about him, his his success, who he is
• 2:19
Speaker 2: and who he is to people who don't really know
• 2:25
Speaker 2: and the person a person versus the athlete, and or
• 2:31
Speaker 2: whether or not the things that you think he did
• 2:33
Speaker 2: or didn't do right. You know, I think I think
• 2:36
Speaker 2: one of one of the one of the things that
• 2:40
Speaker 2: I think I feel like I have to say is
• 2:45
Speaker 2: if you don't know Randy and you've tried to do
• 2:48
Speaker 2: like we all do, say oh, I don't think I
• 2:50
Speaker 2: like him, he doesn't seem sociable, blah blah blah blah.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: You know, I think, you know, for those people, I
• 2:56
Speaker 2: don't know if you can understand walking into any place
• 3:02
Speaker 2: and everybody wanting to talk to you. Everybody wants your
• 3:06
Speaker 2: want you to write your name on something that they have.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: How you know, I have another buddy, you know, Sterling Sharp,
• 3:14
Speaker 2: who who's a great friend of mine, who we do
• 3:17
Speaker 2: a lot of different things, have done a lot of
• 3:19
Speaker 2: different things together. He hates that reality of that status
• 3:27
Speaker 2: and he never signed like he wouldn't sign just just
• 3:31
Speaker 2: just being able to. I think it's just wanting to
• 3:33
Speaker 2: be just human, you know, and we get I think,
• 3:37
Speaker 2: and I'll say this, and I'll let you jump in.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: I know you have a lot of different things that
• 3:40
Speaker 2: you want to say, and and I want I don't
• 3:42
Speaker 2: want to cut that time out and take it from you.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: But I think when you when you think about an athlete,
• 3:51
Speaker 2: a movie star, uh, an artist that has reached the
• 3:56
Speaker 2: epitome of when you start talking about they're the best,
• 4:00
Speaker 2: sure goat the goat And I think when you start, yes,
• 4:04
Speaker 2: I think when you start to talk about that that
• 4:08
Speaker 2: type of person, you have to you have to understand
• 4:10
Speaker 2: what the attention that they get and and imagine that
• 4:14
Speaker 2: for yourself. Nobody wants that much attention. You know what
• 4:16
Speaker 2: I'm saying, You want to be to go somewhere and
• 4:18
Speaker 2: sit down and watch a game, have dinner, have lunch,
• 4:22
Speaker 2: and not have to worry about signing your name and
• 4:25
Speaker 2: oh and will you put this one there? You know?
• 4:27
Speaker 2: And I get it, and I do it just because
• 4:33
  Speaker 2: I don't get you know, I don't feel like I'm
• 4:35
Speaker 2: I've done enough not to sure, but I do see
• 4:40
Speaker 2: the reason why those guys at that level will do it.
• 4:44
Speaker 2: So my heart goes out to the family. And at
• 4:48
Speaker 2: least I'll let you take it in and kind of
• 4:50
Speaker 2: give it, kind of give everybody a reminder, not not
• 4:53
Speaker 2: maybe not that you need it, but just the reality
• 4:55
Speaker 2: of who this guy has been and just how great
• 4:59
  Speaker 2: he he is.
• 4:59
Speaker 4: As an yes and being a graduate of DuPont, you know,
• 5:03
Speaker 4: I knew a lot about him. I remember when he
• 5:06
Speaker 4: played in that state championship. Actually thirty years ago this weekend,
• 5:10
Speaker 4: they were in that state championship and won. The excitement
• 5:14
Speaker 4: surrounding him, the love. I mean, I can remember growing
• 5:18
Speaker 4: up in bell West, Virginia, and I was the rec
• 5:20
Speaker 4: center director and it was hilarious. We had pick up
• 5:23
Speaker 4: basketball every Wednesday. Of course, Randy's a bit younger than me.
• 5:26
Speaker 4: He was probably in maybe junior high at that time.
• 5:29
Speaker 4: But I remember the guys would all roll in and
• 5:31
Speaker 4: they would argue over who would pick up Randy to
• 5:35
Speaker 4: be on their team. And it was hilarious because they go,
• 5:37
Speaker 4: come on, Odie, come on, you know, it's our turn
• 5:40
Speaker 4: to have Randy on our team. And so I had
• 5:42
Speaker 4: to be this little girl trying to sort out the
• 5:44
Speaker 4: you know, the basketball players, figuring out who gets Randy
• 5:47
Speaker 4: this week and whatnot. But just knowing him from growing up.
• 5:52
Speaker 4: He actually, you know, went to high school with my sister,
• 5:55
Speaker 4: so you know, I knew him. I remember whenever they
• 5:58
Speaker 4: won the national champion ship at Marshall. My friend and
• 6:02
Speaker 4: I'm telling personal stories because you know, they're they're just good.
• 6:05
Speaker 4: But anyway, my friend and I went on the field
• 6:08
Speaker 4: after they won the national the double a national championship
• 6:12
Speaker 4: that year, his first year actually at Marshall, and we
• 6:15
Speaker 4: went on the field and there was this Brandy was
• 6:17
Speaker 4: in the middle of the field, and there was this
• 6:18
Speaker 4: huge crowd, you know, you know, a Moss Randy Marshall whatever,
• 6:21
Speaker 4: and so my girlfriend and I kind of get on
• 6:23
Speaker 4: the edge and I go Randy, Randy, and I was
• 6:26
Speaker 4: yelling his name. He kind of looked over the crowd
• 6:28
Speaker 4: and he goes oodie like that, you know. But it
• 6:30
Speaker 4: was just amazing just having that personal connection with But
• 6:34
Speaker 4: I think that's what people maybe with his past when
• 6:37
Speaker 4: he was in high school and he did have some issues,
• 6:39
Speaker 4: he had some troubles you know, during his high school
• 6:43
Speaker 4: days that some people I think maybe didn't get the
• 6:47
Speaker 4: whole story or maybe just part of it and really
• 6:49
Speaker 4: didn't understand what he went through and what was going
• 6:52
Speaker 4: on in his life at that time. Maybe those are
• 6:54
Speaker 4: the people that really don't know or understand what Randy's about.
• 6:57
Speaker 4: But Randy is a giving person. You know, anybody in
• 7:02
Speaker 4: rand University that needs anything, I think he reaches out
• 7:05
Speaker 4: and helps. I've heard of him, stories of him buying
• 7:07
  Speaker 4: houses for people.
• 7:08
  Speaker 2: I've heard I've had things.
• 7:12
Speaker 4: You know that that people don't know. And it's always
• 7:16
Speaker 4: behind the curtains. It's in the shadows because he doesn't
• 7:18
Speaker 4: want people to know. He doesn't want his name out
• 7:20
Speaker 4: there behind these gifts of giving that he does for
• 7:24
Speaker 4: for you know, various people. But but just just to
• 7:29
Speaker 4: go back and look at his legacy as an athlete,
• 7:32
Speaker 4: I mean it's phenomenal. You look at where you know,
• 7:34
Speaker 4: he graduated from DuPont High with a with a state
• 7:37
Speaker 4: high school championship in football. Then he moved on to
• 7:40
Speaker 4: Florida State or I'm sorry, Notre Dame. Had some issues there.
• 7:44
Speaker 4: Ended up at Florida State, had some issues there. He
• 7:47
Speaker 4: was still growing up immature, you know that, that's that's
• 7:51
Speaker 4: what happens sometimes. And he ended up at Marshall and
• 7:53
Speaker 4: his first year there, his first season at Marshall, they
• 7:56
Speaker 4: won that Division one double a national championship, which was,
• 7:59
Speaker 4: you know, to me amazing. But just just a quick
• 8:02
Speaker 4: synopsis of what he did at Marshall over the years,
• 8:05
Speaker 4: over the two years he was there, actually he was
• 8:06
Speaker 4: only there two uh he actually had one thousand, seven
• 8:09
Speaker 4: hundred and nine total yards, seventy eight passes for twenty
• 8:13
  Speaker 4: eight touchdowns.
• 8:15
Speaker 2: That's too about that.
• 8:16
Speaker 4: That's two years, two seasons. Think about what would have
• 8:21
Speaker 4: happened four years and he ran for the Heisman Trophy
• 8:24
Speaker 4: coming from Marshall as a candidate exactly. So when you
• 8:28
Speaker 4: look at his legacy combined with just the human being
• 8:32
Speaker 4: he is, you just have to you just have to
• 8:35
Speaker 4: be so proud of him, and West Virginia should be
• 8:37
Speaker 4: so proud of him, and we wish him all the
• 8:39
Speaker 4: best in you know, getting healthy.
• 8:42
Speaker 2: I would I'm going to add I'm going to add
• 8:44
Speaker 2: to that. I know when we when I first did
• 8:49
Speaker 2: my one on one event with Randy Mowson Carl Lee,
• 8:53
Speaker 2: and I remember him saying, yeah, he would, he would
• 8:55
Speaker 2: do it. And it was interesting to me to have
• 9:00
Speaker 2: an opportunity to sit down and to kind of hear
• 9:03
Speaker 2: him talk about stuff because I had not you know,
• 9:07
Speaker 2: I knew him, but never had never had a chance
• 9:10
Speaker 2: to kind of get an insight of who he was.
• 9:14
Speaker 2: And and I felt when when when that was over,
• 9:20
Speaker 2: it was interesting to me. Of it was like unveiling
• 9:24
Speaker 2: something and then the moment that you kind of get
• 9:27
Speaker 2: out of it, you you you cover it back up,
• 9:30
Speaker 2: and and I thought that was an that was an
• 9:34
Speaker 2: interesting thing to me. And and I look at it
• 9:40
Speaker 2: and I and all I can think about is I
• 9:43
Speaker 2: try to I try to relate to or try to
• 9:46
Speaker 2: imagine the attention of that he gets every where where
• 9:54
Speaker 2: he can go, you know, and and I can and
• 9:58
Speaker 2: and again I have to I keep just going back
• 10:02
Speaker 2: to this because everybody feels like he's supposed to sign
• 10:05
Speaker 2: something for them, or he's supposed to stop and have
• 10:08
Speaker 2: a conversation with them. That's not really true, you know,
• 10:16
Speaker 2: because he's like everybody else. He's on his time, he's
• 10:21
Speaker 2: doing something, he's going to do something, want to do something.
• 10:24
  Speaker 2: And I think we think because he's he's such a
• 10:27
Speaker 2: great athlete and God should be great. If I had
• 10:29
Speaker 2: his autograph, that that means if I see him on
• 10:32
Speaker 2: to be able to get it. No, it's that's not
• 10:34
Speaker 2: really true, you know. And and if you knew, and
• 10:40
Speaker 2: you and you touched on this, if you knew the
• 10:42
Speaker 2: things that he he he does he will do in
• 10:47
Speaker 2: the in the background like he never wants.
• 10:51
Speaker 4: He never doesn't want the spotlight about about that sort
• 10:54
  Speaker 4: of thing.
• 10:55
Speaker 2: About that kind of thing. And again, if that were,
• 10:58
Speaker 2: if that were to happen, everybody would be hitting him
• 11:02
  Speaker 2: up for something.
• 11:03
Speaker 4: Sure, you know, that's reality and reality.
• 11:06
Speaker 2: And as as as a as a fan base, as
• 11:10
Speaker 2: somebody that's hearing that, you're like, No, that's not really
• 11:12
Speaker 2: that may not be true. Yes, that is sure, you know.
• 11:16
Speaker 2: And I've seen him in Minnesota. I see how people
• 11:21
Speaker 2: go crazy over him, you know, and it's just it
• 11:26
Speaker 2: just comes with that, that kind of.
• 11:28
Speaker 4: Successoriety and notoriety part of it. But if I was
• 11:33
  Speaker 4: handled it well.
• 11:34
Speaker 2: I think he has too.
• 11:35
Speaker 4: And especially since he became a co host on the
• 11:38
Speaker 4: NFL Show on ESPN, I really feel like he kind
• 11:40
Speaker 4: of opened up to the fact that I'm a but
• 11:44
  Speaker 4: he's a celebrity.
• 11:45
Speaker 2: In addition to and he and he shows he shows
• 11:49
Speaker 2: a sense of humor, yes, seriousness, knowledge, he shows.
• 11:53
Speaker 4: All and broadcasting. I mean, it's amazing and.
• 11:56
Speaker 2: Nobody would have thought. Nobody would have thought that, now,
• 11:59
Speaker 2: you know. And I think I think the special thing
• 12:02
Speaker 2: about that is is again, I don't think there was
• 12:05
Speaker 2: anybody who thought that he could be all of those
• 12:08
Speaker 2: kinds of things. You know, Yes, I think that I
• 12:12
Speaker 2: think that is. I think that is super super special.
• 12:18
Speaker 2: And so I will just say this. I just pray
• 12:22
Speaker 2: that everything works out. I don't even again, I think
• 12:28
Speaker 2: there someone has put out what they think they know,
• 12:34
Speaker 2: but not the family. But the family has not reached
• 12:37
Speaker 2: out and said anything. And so I think we probably
• 12:41
Speaker 2: should be patient and and wait on what the family
• 12:48
Speaker 2: wants and what the family needs.
• 12:51
  Speaker 4: Respect the privacy.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: Respect that privacy before we go off and and and
• 12:59
Speaker 2: go to social media. You and try to and try
• 13:02
Speaker 2: to be the first to make the story. This is
• 13:05
Speaker 2: not a story that anybody's interested in being the first up.
• 13:08
Speaker 2: This is more interesting. It's more interesting about his health period, right,
• 13:14
Speaker 2: and we can wait on an update we don't need now,
• 13:19
Speaker 2: we don't need speculations. We just don't.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: But that's part of the perils of social media. We
• 13:25
Speaker 4: know what it's about, and you know, people want to
• 13:27
Speaker 4: be that superstar, the one that broke the news first.
• 13:30
Speaker 4: Perfect examples of what's going on in Morgantown right now.
• 13:33
Speaker 4: Everybody wants to be the one to break the news
• 13:35
Speaker 4: of who the head coach is, right, you know, and
• 13:37
Speaker 4: and that's here, that's neither here nor there. But what
• 13:40
Speaker 4: I'm saying is you're right, we all need to respect privacy.
• 13:44
Speaker 4: We need to just all wish him well and hope
• 13:47
Speaker 4: that he gets healthy quickly and returns back to life.
• 13:52
Speaker 2: All right, well, all right, so let's let's we'll move on. Okay,
• 13:59
Speaker 2: let's let's so should we should we? Should we touch Marshall?
• 14:04
Speaker 2: Do you want to touch Marshall? Do you want to
• 14:05
Speaker 2: touch wu? Where you want to go first? Because everything
• 14:10
Speaker 2: is a little bit interesting.
• 14:11
Speaker 4: Let's go to Morgantown because there's been a few little
• 14:14
Speaker 4: updates here and there. So yeah, so.
• 14:20
Speaker 2: What give us the updates. What do you got, I
• 14:23
Speaker 2: know you, I know you've got some notes.
• 14:25
  Speaker 4: Oh I do, I do?
• 14:26
  Speaker 2: Well?
• 14:26
Speaker 4: Well, of course, you know, the rumors are that rich
• 14:29
Speaker 4: Rod is returning to to Morgantown, and various outlets, media outlets,
• 14:36
Speaker 4: friends of friends have all reported this same same fact.
• 14:41
Speaker 4: And then I think this has kind of been pushed
• 14:43
Speaker 4: to the wayside. This was earlier in the day, but
• 14:45
Speaker 4: somebody kind of threw a monkey wrench into the whole,
• 14:48
Speaker 4: the whole mess that, if you want to call it that,
• 14:51
Speaker 4: and said that the o C from Ohio State, actually
• 14:54
Speaker 4: Brian Hartline, had interviewed for that position. And so the
• 14:58
Speaker 4: question at the time today was when did that interview occur?
• 15:03
Speaker 4: You know, we didn't I didn't hear that. Okay, this
• 15:05
Speaker 4: this was just today's latest update from you know what's
• 15:09
Speaker 4: going on with their search. And so the question was, though,
• 15:13
Speaker 4: is this something that happened before the rumors of rich
• 15:17
Speaker 4: Rud coming back or is it something that occurred recently,
• 15:20
Speaker 4: and is it a possibility that he would be, you know,
• 15:23
Speaker 4: coming to Morgantown to be the head coach. Now the
• 15:28
Speaker 4: it's kind of swung back and they're saying no, this
• 15:30
Speaker 4: was something that happened previously during all the interviews that
• 15:34
Speaker 4: they that they conducted with different candidates. So that was
• 15:38
Speaker 4: just something I guess that kind of threw, you know,
• 15:40
Speaker 4: fuel on the fire because from what I'm seeing on
• 15:43
Speaker 4: social media, it's so divided Carl. It's so divided on
• 15:48
Speaker 4: either people are like, bring him back, We're ready, we
• 15:50
Speaker 4: want him back, we want to win. And other people
• 15:52
Speaker 4: were like, I'm done if he comes back, I'm done.
• 15:55
Speaker 4: He's a trader, all all the things that go with
• 15:57
Speaker 4: his name. So to me, it's so controversial no matter
• 16:03
  Speaker 4: who they announced.
• 16:05
Speaker 2: Se that's the question. That's the question that that I
• 16:08
Speaker 2: was going to pose to you.
• 16:10
  Speaker 4: Yes, is.
• 16:14
Speaker 2: At this point the coaching aspect is not in question.
• 16:19
Speaker 4: No, it's him and his history exactly. And I mean
• 16:26
Speaker 4: he won at Jacksonville State, right, the championship of what
• 16:31
Speaker 4: is the league? Yeah, but but he won, he won
• 16:34
  Speaker 4: their league.
• 16:34
  Speaker 2: He's done.
• 16:35
Speaker 4: He his coach won their right. In fact, he was
• 16:39
Speaker 4: coach of the year in the conference.
• 16:40
Speaker 2: And but West Virginia West Virginians. As I was looking
• 16:48
Speaker 2: through Facebook today, like there's there's not a lot there
• 16:54
  Speaker 2: doesn't It doesn't seem to me that there's a lot
• 17:00
Speaker 2: of folks welcoming him quote home.
• 17:04
  Speaker 4: I think it's fifty to fifty. I mean, but I
• 17:07
Speaker 4: see as many posts that say, hey, bring him back
• 17:09
  Speaker 4: as I have.
• 17:10
Speaker 2: Fifty fifty good because what because that because that fifty
• 17:13
Speaker 2: that's said? No, where are they they love wv U?
• 17:17
Speaker 2: Where are they going to go? What are they going
• 17:19
  Speaker 2: to say?
• 17:19
  Speaker 4: What is I've even had a I've even read a
• 17:21
Speaker 4: few people say that they would start cheering for Marshall.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: We'll we'll take it, we need it. Right. But that's
• 17:28
  Speaker 2: what I think, that's what I think happens. I think
• 17:32
Speaker 2: I think that those based Yes, I think there are
• 17:35
Speaker 2: people and again we know this to be true about
• 17:39
Speaker 2: sports period, football even more so. Folks don't forget. They
• 17:44
  Speaker 2: do not forget.
• 17:45
Speaker 4: When you start winning, they forget. Now if they lose,
• 17:49
Speaker 4: all this this rhetoric's going to come back up. It's
• 17:52
Speaker 4: all going to come back up about.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: What he came in, if he if he came in,
• 17:55
Speaker 2: but if he starts winning, winning, forget, they may forgive
• 17:58
Speaker 2: him and like, okay, we'll go.
• 18:01
Speaker 4: Fickle, remember our word describe.
• 18:03
Speaker 2: But what if what if you don't start I mean right?
• 18:09
Speaker 2: And what's what makes us think that WU is gonna
• 18:12
Speaker 2: just instantly, he's gonna come in, turn the program around.
• 18:15
Speaker 2: They're gonna win four games in a row.
• 18:17
  Speaker 4: Transfer portal?
• 18:19
  Speaker 2: What what's good?
• 18:21
Speaker 4: What's going to make their advantage? I don't know. In
• 18:23
Speaker 4: this case, it hasn't.
• 18:25
Speaker 2: Let's just say this, it hasn't worked thus far. Like
• 18:30
  Speaker 2: they haven't been you know, I don't think that they've
• 18:33
Speaker 2: had major success at the portal thus far. So what
• 18:37
  Speaker 2: makes him and.
• 18:39
Speaker 4: We need Hollis here to give his steel about the
• 18:41
Speaker 4: Big twelve and taxes and all that, which is absolute truth.
• 18:45
Speaker 4: I mean I buy into that what he says all
• 18:47
Speaker 4: the time about that, you know, to recruit in the
• 18:50
Speaker 4: Big twelve in West Virginia, it's it's it's hard. Yes,
• 18:53
Speaker 4: it's hard, that's an easy way to put it. But
• 18:56
Speaker 4: what's the delay, Carl? I mean, why is it taking? So?
• 18:58
Speaker 4: I mean, let's say, here's my speculation. This is what
• 19:02
Speaker 4: I think, and this is what I've heard. I've heard
• 19:04
Speaker 4: that he's going to be announced Friday as head coach.
• 19:07
Speaker 4: A little bird told me that. Okay, but everybody's got
• 19:09
Speaker 4: little birds right now talking in their ear. But I
• 19:12
Speaker 4: really think it's total speculation just from what I'm reading
• 19:15
Speaker 4: here and there on different media outlets. I feel like
• 19:19
Speaker 4: the problem is between ren Baker and the donors. Okay,
• 19:24
Speaker 4: the big donors at WU, the big donors, the big money.
• 19:28
Speaker 4: They want rich Rod back, and I don't feel like
• 19:31
Speaker 4: Rehn Baker. I don't want to say he's against it,
• 19:35
Speaker 4: but I think he might feel like there's a better
• 19:37
Speaker 4: choice for West Virginia, in a better direction to go
• 19:39
Speaker 4: other than bringing back rich Rod. I think they're out.
• 19:42
Speaker 2: Of have you have you? When's the last time? And
• 19:47
Speaker 2: I don't know if you you can answer this, but
• 19:50
Speaker 2: I'm just putting it out there because I can't remember.
• 19:54
Speaker 2: When's the last time a coach went back to a
• 19:57
Speaker 2: school or team that they coached before? When does that
• 20:01
  Speaker 2: ever happen?
• 20:04
Speaker 4: I mean I'd have to research, Yeah, I'd have to
• 20:07
  Speaker 4: google it. I don't I don't really know.
• 20:09
  Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I mean, I don't.
• 20:11
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 20:12
  Speaker 2: I don't know what, man.
• 20:13
Speaker 4: I'm sure there's probably been an instance out there somewhere,
• 20:15
Speaker 4: but I don't know if it was successful.
• 20:17
Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say, yeah, and let's say
• 20:18
Speaker 2: if you left it, have it if you left? But
• 20:21
Speaker 2: Grant left and came back to Minnesota, but it wasn't
• 20:24
Speaker 2: because he was failing. He just right was retiring. Sure,
• 20:30
Speaker 2: and then it got bad and then he came back
• 20:32
Speaker 2: and then turned it over the following year. Sure, but
• 20:37
Speaker 2: with with what the fan base thinks of Rich Rod,
• 20:42
Speaker 2: let's just say the fifty percent of those particular people,
• 20:48
Speaker 2: I'm kind of in, I'm kind of leaning in their
• 20:51
Speaker 2: in their wheelhouse, thinking why do we want him to
• 20:54
Speaker 2: come back? Why don't we go and find something because
• 20:58
Speaker 2: we don't want to go back because we already know.
• 21:01
Speaker 2: Now again, I'm not saying he won't win. I'm not
• 21:03
Speaker 2: saying that he won't do a great job. I'm just
• 21:05
  Speaker 2: saying he.
• 21:07
Speaker 4: Was on the cusps of a national championship. But but
• 21:10
Speaker 4: the lost to pit. Other other than that lost to
• 21:12
Speaker 4: pit that last game, they would have been in the
• 21:14
Speaker 4: National championship game that year.
• 21:16
Speaker 2: And of course, you know, I'm not a huge follower
• 21:19
Speaker 2: of WU, right right, But I'll make the case that
• 21:24
Speaker 2: today I felt like there was a ton a ton
• 21:30
Speaker 2: of people who did not talk about any of the
• 21:35
Speaker 2: success that he's had at WU. Everybody or not everybody,
• 21:41
  Speaker 2: but that fifty.
• 21:43
Speaker 4: It's the conspiracy theorist that feel like he threw that
• 21:46
Speaker 4: game because he was going to Michigan, and he knew
• 21:49
Speaker 4: he was going to Michigan. Those are the ones that
• 21:52
Speaker 4: truly do not want him back. They feel like they
• 21:56
Speaker 4: call him a trader, They openly call him a trader
• 21:58
Speaker 4: because of that that loss. They feel like he threw
• 22:01
Speaker 4: the game, which I mean that game was not the
• 22:08
Speaker 4: sum of play calling.
• 22:11
  Speaker 2: It was.
• 22:11
Speaker 4: It was. It was many factors. It was a myriad
• 22:13
Speaker 4: of factors. It was the fact that Pitt was fired up.
• 22:16
Speaker 4: They they knew, they knew being a rival game, right,
• 22:19
Speaker 4: they knew all they had to do that was their
• 22:21
Speaker 4: super Bowl. That was their championship game, to knock w
• 22:24
Speaker 4: out of a champion, you know, out of the finals,
• 22:27
Speaker 4: and so you know you had that on that one side,
• 22:30
Speaker 4: you also had they were probably the players were uptight, nervous.
• 22:33
Speaker 4: They knew all they had to do was beat Pitt
• 22:35
Speaker 4: get to the You know, it wasn't just play calling.
• 22:38
  Speaker 4: And I don't feel like I can't remember. I was
• 22:40
Speaker 4: at that game, and it was it was. It was
• 22:42
Speaker 4: horrible to endure. It was bad. It was tearful, It
• 22:45
Speaker 4: was bad. People had reservations ready to go to New
• 22:49
Speaker 4: Orleans for that championship game, they'd already they just had
• 22:52
Speaker 4: it in their minds. You know, that game was won,
• 22:55
Speaker 4: Pitt was beat. We hadn't even played yet and then
• 22:59
Speaker 4: that happened. And so anyway, but how do you feel
• 23:05
Speaker 4: like you threw the game? But how do you get
• 23:07
Speaker 4: how do you get people to think different?
• 23:09
Speaker 2: Yeah? How are you going to get him to that?
• 23:11
Speaker 2: I mean he's not going to be to come in
• 23:13
Speaker 2: because he's not going to come in and bring any
• 23:15
Speaker 2: of that conversation up. But until he truly wins, sure,
• 23:23
Speaker 2: it's going to be like it's going to be like
• 23:24
Speaker 2: that and why would you like? Why would you want that?
• 23:30
Speaker 2: Is it? Does he have this magical love for WVU
• 23:33
Speaker 2: that he just has also has.
• 23:34
Speaker 4: A lot of former players that are on his side too,
• 23:36
Speaker 4: Pat McAfee, you know, he's kind of been pushing for
• 23:39
Speaker 4: his rehire, I believe in a roundabout way on his show.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: Pac Man Jones has put out some some different videos
• 23:47
Speaker 4: that I've seen that you know, he's saying that he's
• 23:49
Speaker 4: back and w is going to be, you know, the
• 23:52
Speaker 4: powerhouse they once were and getting the gang together. So
• 23:56
Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe if he comes in and he
• 23:58
Speaker 4: hires some of those former players to be on his staff.
• 24:01
Speaker 2: That might kind of lesson and I don't, And I'll
• 24:04
Speaker 2: make this case like, I can't say that he can't
• 24:06
  Speaker 2: come in.
• 24:07
Speaker 4: And like Pat White, well, Pat White's in the NFL.
• 24:09
Speaker 4: I don't. I couldn't foresee him coming back the onest level.
• 24:13
Speaker 2: The only reason I could imagine something like that would
• 24:15
Speaker 2: be is that he could come back as like a
• 24:18
Speaker 2: coordinator or something like that, which now that can give
• 24:21
Speaker 2: him a boost going back into the league, but he can't.
• 24:25
Speaker 4: I don't see him being the fans a little happier
• 24:29
Speaker 4: having those former guys on the coaching staff. I don't.
• 24:33
Speaker 4: I don't know how it's going to go.
• 24:35
  Speaker 2: I think I think it would. I think I think
• 24:36
Speaker 2: it's a smart move. To your point, A smart move
• 24:39
Speaker 2: would be is to get a couple former players, well
• 24:42
Speaker 2: known players, on that staff. And I think that in
• 24:46
Speaker 2: its own right, brings the fan base just to watch
• 24:50
Speaker 2: former players coaching coaching younger players. I think that would
• 24:55
Speaker 2: be something that they that could happen. I just think, though,
• 24:59
Speaker 2: I think this is going to be one of those
• 25:00
  Speaker 2: decisions that I think the school's gosh. I think it's
• 25:05
Speaker 2: gonna be really, really a tough one to make.
• 25:10
  Speaker 4: I mean, if I'm not, I think it's already mad.
• 25:12
Speaker 2: If I'm the president and the athletic director and we're
• 25:14
Speaker 2: sitting in a room talking and trying to weigh this out,
• 25:17
Speaker 2: should we or should we not? I honestly, I don't
• 25:22
Speaker 2: know where you like, I have reasons to say on
• 25:27
Speaker 2: both right, And let's.
• 25:29
Speaker 4: Look on the other side of the coin. You think
• 25:30
Speaker 4: about the treatment and the things that happened with rich
• 25:35
Speaker 4: when he was there. I mean, here's the other side
• 25:37
Speaker 4: of it. Maybe the fans don't want him back, but
• 25:39
Speaker 4: why would he want to come back? I mean, I
• 25:41
  Speaker 4: don't know.
• 25:43
  Speaker 2: And see, Tom, that's that's a that's a valid point.
• 25:47
Speaker 2: I mean, you know, if you don't want me, yeah,
• 25:50
Speaker 2: then you know, hey, okay, that's fine. I'll try to
• 25:53
Speaker 2: go somewhere else. So I'll do nothing right. Sure, maybe,
• 25:58
Speaker 2: but he's but he all now. I think this may
• 26:03
Speaker 2: validate some of the some of the points of some
• 26:05
Speaker 2: things have are happening in the background. The fact that
• 26:09
Speaker 2: he's actually out there and still having this dialogue about
• 26:13
Speaker 2: being the coach and wanting to be the coach is
• 26:16
Speaker 2: is because maybe he is the coach and he's testing
• 26:20
Speaker 2: the waters to see what it what it what it
• 26:23
Speaker 2: feels like, or what it's going to look like. You know,
• 26:26
Speaker 2: where's his fan base going to come from? How how
• 26:28
Speaker 2: do people feel? Do they feel good? Do they feel bad?
• 26:31
Speaker 2: How do they how do they feel? If you had
• 26:33
Speaker 2: to make the case, or you may have already made
• 26:37
Speaker 2: the case. Fifty to fifty is where you think.
• 26:39
Speaker 4: I think this is, I mean, honestly, and also the
• 26:42
Speaker 4: other side of it is if you've got the ad
• 26:44
Speaker 4: already not really on fire about having you there, don't
• 26:49
Speaker 4: you think in future situations that's going to cause some
• 26:51
Speaker 4: some friction too? Would I mean, I would think right
• 26:54
Speaker 4: out of the gate, I would think so. I mean
• 26:56
Speaker 4: you would know as as your head rich Rod would
• 26:58
Speaker 4: come in knowing that, you know, Rin Baker was like, Hey,
• 27:01
Speaker 4: we thought we could get somebody a little a little
• 27:03
  Speaker 4: better than you. I don't know. I think there's just
• 27:06
Speaker 4: so many fast a second play into this, and I'm
• 27:09
Speaker 4: interested to see if this really happens. But from what
• 27:13
Speaker 4: I've been told, and I was just told this right
• 27:15
Speaker 4: before the show Friday, sometime Friday, they are announcing him
• 27:20
Speaker 4: as the head coach. Now, I might be wrong, and
• 27:22
Speaker 4: I might be eating crow later.
• 27:24
Speaker 2: You've been your scoops. I've been right on point so far,
• 27:30
Speaker 2: so I'm not gonna question that. I'll be I've been
• 27:33
Speaker 2: waiting on it. We'll see, all right, Ladies, din them.
• 27:35
Speaker 2: We're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back.

• 29:12
Speaker 2: up north and and dealt with up North.
• 29:18
Speaker 4: Time to bring it back and it's time to got to.
• 29:20
Speaker 2: Bring it down back home a little bit to Marshall.
• 29:25
  Speaker 2: What what in.
• 29:28
Speaker 4: The world is Oh my goodness is.
• 29:30
Speaker 2: Happening at Marshall University? You know, isn't it?
• 29:36
Speaker 4: Isn't it just so just a wave of emotions. Like Saturday,
• 29:41
Speaker 4: We're on top of the world. We have won the
• 29:44
Speaker 4: Sun Belt Conference Championship. We're gonna go to this big
• 29:47
Speaker 4: We're gonna get this great bulbid, you know, probably one
• 29:51
Speaker 4: of the best ones we've had in years, to be honest,
• 29:54
Speaker 4: you know what a game. It was exciting. They played
• 29:58
Speaker 4: so well on both sides of the ball. They dominated.
• 30:01
Speaker 4: They don't to a team that I really felt like
• 30:04
Speaker 4: they would, they would really take them to the woodship.
• 30:06
Speaker 4: I really felt that way, Carl. But the game was awesome. Everything,
• 30:11
Speaker 4: everybody's happy, woo. And then the next day, literally within hours,
• 30:16
Speaker 4: they announced that half is leaving for Southern miss which
• 30:18
Speaker 4: we've all all had our you know, our own kind
• 30:21
Speaker 4: of ideas about that, and so he leaves. And then
• 30:26
Speaker 4: here comes the transfer portal, our favorite thing that we
• 30:30
Speaker 4: talk about all the time in college athletics. And half
• 30:33
Speaker 4: the team has already entered it.
• 30:36
Speaker 2: So let me let me let me jump in right there. Okay,
• 30:38
Speaker 2: And okay, So to those folks who think that the portal,
• 30:44
Speaker 2: the transfer portal is, it's fair. It's fair for the players. Okay.
• 30:55
Speaker 2: So I was gonna.
• 30:57
Speaker 4: Say, is it though?
• 30:58
Speaker 2: And Holla said something the other day about you know,
• 31:04
Speaker 2: this started with coaches getting contract to play to go
• 31:10
Speaker 2: coach somewhere else, even before the Bowl game, sure, even
• 31:14
Speaker 2: before their bowl games. I'm not talking I'm not talking
• 31:16
Speaker 2: specifically about any school. I'm just saying that the fact
• 31:19
Speaker 2: that a school could come and recruit me and I
• 31:22
Speaker 2: accept the job prior to the bowl game, so I
• 31:27
Speaker 2: don't even coach the bowl game. So I got to
• 31:32
Speaker 2: turn it over to an assistant coach, an interrum coach
• 31:36
Speaker 2: who's an assistant, and then the university's got to feel
• 31:41
Speaker 2: that job because I'm gone to another school. Right. That
• 31:49
Speaker 2: should not be. That should not happen, like you can
• 31:54
Speaker 2: if you're getting paid for the year, the year means
• 31:57
Speaker 2: to me, to the end of the season, whatever that
• 32:00
Speaker 2: time and date is.
• 32:02
Speaker 4: I agree, but that's not how it works.
• 32:05
Speaker 2: I just don't and that makes no sense to me.
• 32:07
Speaker 4: It doesn't make sense, and something needs to happen. Something
• 32:10
Speaker 4: needs to The rules need to change to me. If
• 32:13
Speaker 4: a player, like you said, starts the year with the school,
• 32:16
Speaker 4: they need to finish the year. If they want to
• 32:18
Speaker 4: sit out the bowl game, that's fine, but they cannot
• 32:20
Speaker 4: enter the transfer portal until that bowl game is complete.
• 32:23
Speaker 2: Why does the portal open prior to the last foot
• 32:28
Speaker 2: It should not open until the last football game is played.
• 32:32
Speaker 4: You're preaching to the choir.
• 32:34
Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean that makes no sense.
• 32:35
Speaker 4: Well, let's just let's put this in terms of the NFL.
• 32:39
Speaker 4: That would be like the NFL playoffs beginning. You have
• 32:43
Speaker 4: all your wild cards, you have all your teams starting
• 32:45
  Speaker 4: the playoffs.
• 32:46
Speaker 2: I'm a free agent and I'm going to go somewhere.
• 32:48
Speaker 4: Then that they allow them to become free agents before
• 32:51
Speaker 4: the playoffs and the Super Bowl even happen. It makes
• 32:53
  Speaker 4: no sense.
• 32:54
Speaker 2: There's nothing and there's a whole lot of ways you
• 32:58
Speaker 2: can see you could stay with your state in there
• 33:00
Speaker 2: that it makes no sense. But I could say it
• 33:03
  Speaker 2: a lot a whole.
• 33:06
Speaker 4: Nice probably for sure, because I don't like it. I
• 33:08
Speaker 4: don't like it, and I mean, you look at what's
• 33:11
Speaker 4: happened to Marshall. I mean, I understand these kids got
• 33:15
Speaker 4: to do what's best for them, but there is no
• 33:18
Speaker 4: sense of gratitude. Is that the word I want to use?
• 33:22
  Speaker 4: Or depreciation? Loyalty?
• 33:24
Speaker 2: No loyalty and appreciation for.
• 33:26
Speaker 4: What what they've done, what they've done for them.
• 33:28
Speaker 2: Yes, I mean for the.
• 33:30
Speaker 4: Fan base, for the school. I mean, what is it.
• 33:34
Speaker 2: I think I think I saw the last number that
• 33:36
Speaker 2: I saw was forty. Some kids are in the portal.
• 33:41
Speaker 4: Yes, as the team. All the quarterbacks are gone.
• 33:46
Speaker 2: All the quarterbacks are gone.
• 33:47
Speaker 4: The quarterback controversy, there's not one now.
• 33:50
  Speaker 2: So I'm let's say I'm a junior. I hadn't started,
• 33:53
Speaker 2: but I thought this was going to be my year
• 33:55
Speaker 2: to start, so I made and I'm probably not gonna
• 33:59
Speaker 2: be in the portal because i haven't played, right, so
• 34:03
Speaker 2: now my opportunity to play. I'm coming off of a
• 34:07
Speaker 2: team that's that went bowling, sure, you know, and then
• 34:12
Speaker 2: following year, the next year, I'm going to be starting,
• 34:16
Speaker 2: and we're we may not even be able to build
• 34:20
Speaker 2: a team. And most of these guys, most of these
• 34:24
Speaker 2: guys are scholarship guys. The majority of the guys who
• 34:27
Speaker 2: are in the portal are I want to make the
• 34:30
Speaker 2: case that they were all scholarship guys. Now, if that's
• 34:33
Speaker 2: all scholarship guys, that's got to be at least close
• 34:37
Speaker 2: to your twenty two starting offensive defensive guys.
• 34:41
  Speaker 4: This, I mean, I didn't count exactly, but you're right,
• 34:45
Speaker 4: you're close to the numbers. How many are gone.
• 34:47
Speaker 2: I'm almost short. It was forty. It was forty something.
• 34:49
Speaker 4: It's almost the entire team. Yes, that's exactly what I
• 34:52
  Speaker 4: read and because.
• 34:54
Speaker 2: They're saying it, they're saying it after.
• 34:56
Speaker 4: The whole special. We're not special. This happens everywhere. This
• 34:59
Speaker 4: happened to you just a few years ago. When they're
• 35:01
Speaker 4: coach left, the whole team practically left and they had
• 35:04
Speaker 4: to rebuild. And that's the problem with it goes back
• 35:07
Speaker 4: to nil our favorite subjects, because what those kids do
• 35:10
Speaker 4: is they go once they have established that they're good players,
• 35:13
Speaker 4: they're winning a championship at a school. If their coach leaves,
• 35:16
Speaker 4: they're going to follow them to the bigger program, more money,
• 35:19
Speaker 4: more everything. And what happens to the school is we're
• 35:22
Speaker 4: just left here starting over and it's a cycle. It's
• 35:25
Speaker 4: going to keep happening this way. It's not going to
• 35:27
Speaker 4: change until the NCAA does something about it and regulates it.
• 35:32
Speaker 4: This is the fate of the Marshals and I'm sorry,
• 35:35
Speaker 4: it's the fate of the WUS two. I mean, I
• 35:38
Speaker 4: know WU is a bigger program and more money than Marshall,
• 35:41
Speaker 4: but they're still not in Alabama, and there's still not
• 35:44
Speaker 4: a Georgia. There's still the elite group and then there's US.
• 35:50
Speaker 2: It may hit some nerves, oh well yeah, but It's true.
• 35:55
  Speaker 4: It's just true.
• 35:56
Speaker 2: It's true. We can't compete, not with with with within
• 36:02
Speaker 2: my own money, you know. And I'm going to make
• 36:06
Speaker 2: the case that coach Houff and his his opportunity is
• 36:14
Speaker 2: a great opportunity for him. It's lateral, it is lateral.
• 36:18
Speaker 2: But if he goes in and he turns that program
• 36:21
Speaker 2: around in a couple of years, as if at the
• 36:26
Speaker 2: same as if he has exactly the same success at
• 36:29
Speaker 2: Southern Mists as he had at Marshall, He's proved, he's
• 36:33
Speaker 2: proven him, he's proven himself. Now he has an opportunity
• 36:37
Speaker 2: to to to really jump into a big time school,
• 36:43
Speaker 2: which I'm sure that's his goal, and he has all
• 36:45
Speaker 2: the right to be able to want that and to
• 36:49
Speaker 2: and to achieve that.
• 36:51
Speaker 4: But I'm going to defend our school. I'm going to
• 36:54
Speaker 4: defend Marshall because I've heard some really negative things out
• 36:56
Speaker 4: there on social media and in the you know, all
• 36:59
Speaker 4: the news outlets saying that Marshall lost him Marshall, it
• 37:03
Speaker 4: was Marshall's fault that he left, that they didn't extend
• 37:06
Speaker 4: the contract. Not so fast, my friend. I mean, there's
• 37:09
Speaker 4: some history there from what I think the Christian spears right,
• 37:13
Speaker 4: is there ad. He said that from day one, Huff
• 37:17
Speaker 4: pursued multiple jobs. He was always open for looking at
• 37:22
Speaker 4: other schools and interviews from day one and after the
• 37:25
Speaker 4: twenty twenty two season, and they were successful that they
• 37:29
Speaker 4: did offer him an extension of the contract, but there
• 37:31
Speaker 4: were arguments about the stipulations of a buyout and he
• 37:35
Speaker 4: didn't like the stipulations. Huff didn't like it, so he
• 37:37
Speaker 4: didn't accept it. Well, then, of course, you know, the
• 37:40
Speaker 4: next year, there's six and seven. So the school decided, oh,
• 37:43
Speaker 4: we'll just wait a little bit, we'll see what happens
• 37:45
Speaker 4: next year, which would be this year, and so they
• 37:48
Speaker 4: came to an agreement. Basically, I think that they would
• 37:52
Speaker 4: wait until the end of this season to determine what
• 37:57
Speaker 4: the contract would look like, and they had a contract
• 37:59
Speaker 4: in place when he left. So I'm going to defend
• 38:02
Speaker 4: I'm going to defend Marshall a little bit because I
• 38:04
Speaker 4: feel like they're getting some bad press. They they're they're
• 38:07
Speaker 4: there there. Some of the fans' views are that we
• 38:11
Speaker 4: let him go, and I don't think that's the case.
• 38:14
Speaker 4: I think he wanted to go, not that he didn't
• 38:17
Speaker 4: like Marshall. I just think his aspirations, like you said,
• 38:20
Speaker 4: he has, he wants to go somewhere else, prove that
• 38:23
Speaker 4: he can rebuild a team again. And that's definitely going
• 38:26
Speaker 4: to open some doors for him Alabama.
• 38:29
Speaker 2: Right, you know what I'm saying. I mean, he's going
• 38:31
Speaker 2: to be on that level. If he turns another program around, Sure,
• 38:35
Speaker 2: he's going to be on that level. And again, let's
• 38:38
Speaker 2: assume that Alabama has does not recover from Nick Saban.
• 38:42
Speaker 2: Sure I would make the case that's where his long
• 38:45
Speaker 2: term goal could be.
• 38:46
Speaker 4: Probably, you know, I would think that's fair.
• 38:48
Speaker 2: And but again, I had a conversation earlier today and
• 38:55
Speaker 2: one of the and and I won't go into details
• 38:57
Speaker 2: of the conversation, but one of the things that I
• 39:03
Speaker 2: try to keep focus on, and I think people need
• 39:08
Speaker 2: to kind of keep focus on this, whether it's youth football,
• 39:14
Speaker 2: middle school, high school, college, at the end of the day,
• 39:21
Speaker 2: the sport itself is taking care of teaching, informing young
• 39:31
Speaker 2: athletes about life, life lessons, life lessons. Right, we have
• 39:40
Speaker 2: taken college football, and we've taken like what is true
• 39:47
Speaker 2: to life about this? What this has showing you? Like
• 39:50
Speaker 2: some money matters, it's all that all that matters, doesn't
• 39:54
Speaker 2: matter where the school is, doesn't matter what their record is.
• 39:57
Speaker 2: You show me the money. I'm coming right now. Whose
• 40:02
Speaker 2: fault is that? That's the folks with the money. That's
• 40:05
Speaker 2: to me, that's not the kids. The kids had nothing.
• 40:08
Speaker 4: The election of our society.
• 40:09
Speaker 2: It is it is and what we've become. And I think,
• 40:14
Speaker 2: did you send me something or I don't know if
• 40:15
Speaker 2: it was you or Holler sent me.
• 40:16
Speaker 4: Something about privatizing, privatizing.
• 40:22
Speaker 2: Collegiate football teams when somebody's owning somebody, a billionaire can
• 40:27
Speaker 2: come in and own and put his money into a
• 40:32
  Speaker 2: university's football team.
• 40:34
Speaker 4: Oh, it's already out there. I think the actual billionaire
• 40:37
Speaker 4: you're talking about is the former Bucks owner Lazarie Lazaries.
• 40:42
Speaker 4: That sounds right. He used to own the Bucks. I
• 40:45
Speaker 4: don't know if I'm pronouncing his name right, but anyway,
• 40:47
  Speaker 4: but if.
• 40:47
Speaker 2: You're not getting it, well, then I got no shot.
• 40:50
Speaker 4: I know i'm reading specialistrike, but he's actually looking into
• 40:54
Speaker 4: bidding on college sports teams, and his is all about profit.
• 40:59
Speaker 4: It's not about well, it's it's all about the bottom dollar.
• 41:03
Speaker 4: And in his vision, he thinks that schools could sell
• 41:06
Speaker 4: their programs to outside, you know, private industries, and that
• 41:13
Speaker 4: would increase that school's in I own money and also
• 41:17
Speaker 4: increase the you know, money for the facilities all the
• 41:20
Speaker 4: things that go with it. And and and then the owners,
• 41:23
Speaker 4: the people that own that particular sport also make a profit.
• 41:27
  Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're they're they're taking the gate, they're taking
• 41:31
Speaker 2: that the income coming in from the.
• 41:33
Speaker 4: Football, privatizing college sport.
• 41:35
Speaker 2: The question the question, okay, so the question that comes
• 41:39
Speaker 2: with that too for me, is the football program brings
• 41:46
Speaker 2: in the most money of any sports team. They're the king,
• 41:51
Speaker 2: they're the king. And I'm going to make the case
• 41:56
Speaker 2: that the majority of I don't know if I want
• 41:59
Speaker 2: to say the majority of that money comes back into
• 42:03
Speaker 2: the football program, but let's just say, and there's there's
• 42:05
Speaker 2: a big amount that comes back into the program, whether
• 42:09
Speaker 2: it's which which we can't count scholarships, so scholarships is
• 42:13
Speaker 2: just no money coming into the schools. They're just letting
• 42:16
Speaker 2: you sit in that class. Okay, but you're gonna make
• 42:21
Speaker 2: You're making money from the gate, you're making money from concessions,
• 42:24
Speaker 2: You're making all this kind of money from TV revenues
• 42:27
Speaker 2: and all of that kind of stuff. And you're gonna
• 42:31
Speaker 2: turn You're gonna turn that over for profit for profits
• 42:35
Speaker 2: for an individual to profit himself on.
• 42:40
Speaker 4: Just you think tickets are prices? Are how to ask?
• 42:43
Speaker 2: Yes, where are they gonna go? And then and and
• 42:45
Speaker 2: who and who controls that right? That's got to be
• 42:49
Speaker 2: the owner of that football team?
• 42:52
Speaker 4: And and probably, let's be realistic, Carl, the schools that
• 42:55
Speaker 4: take advantage of that are going to be the schools
• 42:57
Speaker 4: that don't have the financial backing that the bigger schools do.
• 43:03
Speaker 4: A school like Alabama will not have to worry about that.
• 43:06
Speaker 4: They won't have to worry about it now. Maybe eventually
• 43:08
Speaker 4: on down the road. But when this first starts, it's
• 43:11
Speaker 4: going to be hitting the smaller schools. They're going to
• 43:13
Speaker 4: be targeting those schools that are desperate for money to compete.
• 43:17
Speaker 2: See, I'm gonna I'm gonna strongly disagree with you here. Yeah,
• 43:22
Speaker 2: because why I'm gonna go. I'm going to go to Alabama.
• 43:27
  Speaker 2: I'm going to.
• 43:28
Speaker 4: You're gonna have to pay more money to buy hinder
• 43:31
  Speaker 4: their sports.
• 43:31
Speaker 2: Honey, I got all this money, and I want to
• 43:34
  Speaker 2: make money. I don't want to I don't want to
• 43:36
Speaker 2: spend time on trying to make money. I'm guaranteed to
• 43:41
Speaker 2: make money at Alabama.
• 43:42
  Speaker 4: It's a good point.
• 43:44
Speaker 2: You're gonna cut to me.
• 43:45
Speaker 4: You're gonna feel this starts when they first start. They're
• 43:47
Speaker 4: gonna like play it out with the smaller schools to
• 43:50
Speaker 4: see if it works. You don't think, They don't think.
• 43:52
Speaker 4: So they target They target bigger program.
• 43:55
Speaker 2: Target the top okay, the top conferences, the top team
• 44:01
  Speaker 2: and I and I'd almost say that I don't know
• 44:04
  Speaker 2: if they'll even touch I don't know if they'll touch
• 44:10
  Speaker 2: a bottom level.
• 44:11
Speaker 4: Wait, here's the thing, Carl. The schools they're not desperate.
• 44:15
Speaker 4: They already have millions of dollars for nil and all
• 44:17
Speaker 4: the things that they need. They don't need the private
• 44:20
Speaker 4: I would make the.
• 44:21
Speaker 2: Case shaller schools do why would they? But yes, but
• 44:24
Speaker 2: why would what? Why would we do that? Why would
• 44:27
Speaker 2: we do that that? You know, if they don't need it?
• 44:30
Speaker 2: This is only this is this is this conversation. Isn't
• 44:34
Speaker 2: happening to that small university, that this conversation is happening
• 44:39
Speaker 2: to a two into a larger university Who's like, hmm,
• 44:45
Speaker 2: Now it could end up being kicked down to I
• 44:49
Speaker 2: don't know if I'm want to call it second tier.
• 44:50
Speaker 2: But the lower levels of college football compared to the top.
• 44:56
Speaker 4: Well, the top could say we don't want your stipulations,
• 44:59
Speaker 4: we don't want your I'm sure when who want to
• 45:02
Speaker 4: come in and buy your sport, there's gonna be there's
• 45:05
Speaker 4: gonna be things they want you to do.
• 45:06
Speaker 2: Absolutely, So why would a university, Why would a university
• 45:10
Speaker 2: do that for money?
• 45:11
Speaker 4: That's why I think it would be the smaller schools.
• 45:13
Speaker 2: Carl, No, no, no, see.
• 45:16
Speaker 4: I agree to disagree on this one.
• 45:20
Speaker 2: Well, to see again, the billionaires don't want the little
• 45:26
Speaker 2: bit of money that quote the smaller schools and make
• 45:29
Speaker 2: there's no deal, there's no there's no benefit there.
• 45:32
Speaker 4: But don't you think this is more about the fact.
• 45:36
Speaker 4: I think this is all about something. I think it's
• 45:37
Speaker 4: more of an ego.
• 45:39
  Speaker 2: I think it is part ego. I think there's a
• 45:41
Speaker 2: large part of it is ego. But and because of ego,
• 45:45
Speaker 2: I don't want such and such tech. You know, I
• 45:49
Speaker 2: want Alabama. I want Georgia, I want You know what
• 45:52
Speaker 2: I'm saying, I've got Georgia in my pocket. I've got
• 45:54
Speaker 2: Alabama in my pocket. You know what I'm saying. Not
• 45:57
Speaker 2: the name is in my pocket. That's that's probably you know,
• 46:01
Speaker 2: I'm not gonna Why am I gonna throw money at
• 46:05
Speaker 2: you know, at A at A it's still.
• 46:07
Speaker 4: Want to make money that I'm not really interested.
• 46:09
Speaker 2: Come on, do they really need to make money? This
• 46:12
Speaker 2: is to me, I don't even think this is really
• 46:14
Speaker 2: so much about making money as can you imagine being
• 46:19
Speaker 2: the owner of of Alabama. You're at the game, you're
• 46:24
Speaker 2: walking down around on the field, now you're on TV.
• 46:27
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, It's an ego, it's an
• 46:29
  Speaker 2: ego thing.
• 46:30
Speaker 4: We'll see how that plays out, but that that that
• 46:32
Speaker 4: is definitely something that's on the horizon and I do
• 46:35
Speaker 4: think that within the next five years it's happening.
• 46:38
Speaker 2: We have we have so many problems. We have so
• 46:42
Speaker 2: many problems in sports from from the ground up, I know,
• 46:49
Speaker 2: and to to add this one kind of as a
• 46:54
Speaker 2: on on the on the horizon something that could very
• 46:58
Speaker 2: well be lean ring out there for for for it
• 47:04
Speaker 2: to happen. Is it's it's scary. It's scary to me.
• 47:09
Speaker 4: Because once we start doing that, then are we going
• 47:12
Speaker 4: to start like gambling like they do and and you
• 47:15
Speaker 4: know how the draft Kings and all those different organ
• 47:19
Speaker 4: you know, those different apps or.
• 47:21
Speaker 2: Let me help you in the help you, Yeah, let
• 47:24
Speaker 2: me help you with that. It's probably when when I
• 47:29
Speaker 2: when I was playing. Okay, so there was a there
• 47:31
Speaker 2: was a big deal about gambling, right like you couldn't
• 47:34
Speaker 2: you couldn't gamble if you could, if you gamble, you
• 47:36
Speaker 2: didn't put out of the league, and DA DA D
• 47:38
Speaker 2: and all this kind of stuff. Okay, So then all
• 47:42
Speaker 2: of a sudden, all of a sudden, you bring in
• 47:46
Speaker 2: a a actual gambling You have gambling commercials, and then
• 47:51
Speaker 2: you have gambling actually happening within ESPN like a show, yes,
• 48:00
Speaker 2: like giving you the numbers and all this kind of stuff.
• 48:05
  Speaker 4: How I don't know how it's ethical.
• 48:08
Speaker 2: How is that for what you told me as a
• 48:12
Speaker 2: football player that you are absolutely not allowed to gamble
• 48:18
Speaker 2: on your team at all, no way, for any reason,
• 48:24
Speaker 2: and if you do, your career is over.
• 48:26
Speaker 4: Yeah okay almost in every sport.
• 48:30
Speaker 2: Yes, but I can remember hearing this. We have a
• 48:34
Speaker 2: team meeting with people coming in telling us that we
• 48:39
Speaker 2: cannot gamble and what it does and all of this
• 48:41
Speaker 2: kind of stuff, And all of a sudden, I look up.
• 48:47
Speaker 2: Fan duel is on is being advertised all through draft kings,
• 48:52
Speaker 2: all the way through every every sporting event. Sure, and
• 48:58
Speaker 2: now i'm the if I'm thinking, I'm looking at it
• 49:01
Speaker 2: now and I'm a player, Why is it still illegal
• 49:06
Speaker 2: because you're advertising? I mean, why can I gamble on
• 49:09
  Speaker 2: my team? Why can't I? Why can't I? Can my
• 49:12
  Speaker 2: wife do it?
• 49:13
Speaker 4: But you do exactly?
• 49:15
Speaker 2: Can so? Can she go vote? Can she go better
• 49:18
Speaker 2: on on on the vikings to win the game? And
• 49:21
  Speaker 2: I'm playing.
• 49:21
Speaker 4: I mean, there's so many ways you could get around it.
• 49:24
Speaker 4: I mean, you've got friends out there that could have
• 49:26
Speaker 4: an account. You go to your friends, so here, here's
• 49:28
Speaker 4: some money, put some money on my team. I'm sure
• 49:30
Speaker 4: it happened because I know, because I know it will
• 49:32
  Speaker 4: be traced.
• 49:32
Speaker 2: I know for a fact there were some guys who
• 49:35
Speaker 2: did gamble, and I want to say, and I can't
• 49:38
Speaker 2: be one hundred percent true, they lost their career because
• 49:42
  Speaker 2: of gamble.
• 49:43
Speaker 4: But back then it had to be in person. It's
• 49:45
Speaker 4: not like today's world where you have it all on
• 49:47
  Speaker 4: your phone everywhere.
• 49:49
Speaker 2: You can do it anywhere anywhere. Yeah, I just I think.
• 49:53
Speaker 4: That's another part of it. That's what blows my mind
• 49:56
Speaker 4: to I just don't think you're showing age.
• 50:00
Speaker 2: I'm really, I'm really wondering what I'm really wondering what
• 50:04
Speaker 2: the person who bets and or is a gambler on sports,
• 50:08
Speaker 2: specifically football. And if you're and you hear this, come
• 50:15
Speaker 2: on my Facebook, let's talk with Crawley and tell me that,
• 50:19
Speaker 2: because I want to have a conversation about like why
• 50:23
Speaker 2: you why is it that you are? Like what do
• 50:26
Speaker 2: you get out of the whole gambling thing, because like
• 50:28
Speaker 2: I've never been a gambler, you know, I get that.
• 50:31
Speaker 4: But like, I mean, what does my friends do it?
• 50:34
  Speaker 4: I mean I don't.
• 50:35
Speaker 2: I don't put is it on the spread? Is it
• 50:37
Speaker 2: on the spread of the game? Is it just who's winning?
• 50:39
Speaker 2: Just like I always like so many, so many different things.
• 50:42
Speaker 2: See that's see I'm curious about what that is. And
• 50:47
Speaker 2: and if I was a player playing in a game,
• 50:51
Speaker 2: can I give could I give you that information? Like
• 50:55
Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, like because I'm curious, because
• 50:57
Speaker 2: I'm curious, like, can you.
• 50:59
  Speaker 4: Know have been?
• 51:01
Speaker 2: And I truly do not believe this that a player
• 51:06
Speaker 2: would give up a touchdown, give up an I don't
• 51:10
  Speaker 2: I don't think.
• 51:11
  Speaker 4: I don't think the game.
• 51:11
Speaker 2: I don't think it affects the game as because because
• 51:14
Speaker 2: the outright outright because the players have to make plays
• 51:19
Speaker 2: sure to get a better contract, right, you know. So
• 51:22
Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not giving up a touchdown for you
• 51:25
Speaker 2: to win a bet and you're gonna pay me something
• 51:27
Speaker 2: off the bet. No, I know I'm not doing that. No,
• 51:30
  Speaker 2: so I don't think that. But I just I'm trying
• 51:33
Speaker 2: to figure out, like what is the stake?
• 51:36
Speaker 4: But the access is so easy now. It's not like
• 51:39
Speaker 4: whenever you know you were playing ball, or when I
• 51:41
Speaker 4: was younger, I mean you had to actually go to
• 51:43
Speaker 4: a casino or now you can do somebody.
• 51:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, if you said, everything's on your phone.
• 51:48
Speaker 4: Everything's on your phone. So it's it's just so easy
• 51:51
  Speaker 4: to do. It's I don't know. To me, it's kind
• 51:55
  Speaker 4: of distasteful. I don't I don't like seeing it. I
• 51:57
Speaker 4: don't like the mixture.
• 51:59
Speaker 2: All right, So I'm real quick, I'm gonna I'm gonna
• 52:02
Speaker 2: take a shot at Marshall situation and try to figure out, like,
• 52:09
Speaker 2: but what I think is going to what I think
• 52:13
Speaker 2: is going to happen, And then I'm curious to see
• 52:18
Speaker 2: what you think. I I think we hire the coach,
• 52:23
Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna get Gibson. We're gonna get him,
• 52:26
Speaker 2: We're gonna hire him. I think there's gonna be some form.
• 52:34
Speaker 2: I'm gonna make the case that a lot of those
• 52:36
Speaker 2: kids are who've gone in the portal have not left.
• 52:39
  Speaker 4: Okay, okay.
• 52:41
Speaker 2: So I think that what's gonna happen is they're gonna
• 52:43
Speaker 2: have this conversation, and I think he's going to possibly
• 52:48
Speaker 2: be able to sell some of those kids to stay,
• 52:52
Speaker 2: and and and and potentially it'll settle itself down. I
• 52:57
  Speaker 2: don't think he's gonna I don't think he's going to
• 52:59
Speaker 2: be able to stop the top players just because they're
• 53:03
Speaker 2: their top dollar, unless he can come back with with
• 53:07
Speaker 2: matching money, which I don't think that will happen. But
• 53:11
Speaker 2: so I think that they may lose.
• 53:15
Speaker 4: Most of them, most.
• 53:16
Speaker 2: Of the most most of most of most of the
• 53:19
Speaker 2: starting starting guys. I'm hoping that one of the quarterbacks
• 53:23
Speaker 2: will stay. If I was one of the quarterbacks, I'd stay, like, oh.
• 53:27
Speaker 4: Okay, Cole Pennington's already announced.
• 53:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he will.
• 53:32
Speaker 4: Earn it, says Broxton.
• 53:34
Speaker 2: Are they gone or just.
• 53:37
Speaker 4: They're entering the portal.
• 53:38
Speaker 2: So my hope is is in this conversation I can
• 53:43
Speaker 2: get a few of you all to settle in and
• 53:46
Speaker 2: let's let's sit down and have a conversation. What do
• 53:49
Speaker 2: we need? How does this work? And let's let's let's
• 53:53
Speaker 2: play ball, Let's go, let's go hurt right. I think
• 53:56
Speaker 2: if they I think if if we get a chance,
• 54:00
Speaker 2: think if he gets a chance to sit down with
• 54:02
Speaker 2: these guys and have a conversation. Maybe he's already had
• 54:04
Speaker 2: it and they're still gone, but I think if he
• 54:07
Speaker 2: has a conversation with these guys individually and try to
• 54:11
Speaker 2: figure out what are you looking for? What do you
• 54:14
Speaker 2: what do you want out of your football career? Okay,
• 54:17
Speaker 2: you know, Yeah, there's a chance that those guys can stay.
• 54:20
Speaker 4: And I think it depends too on you know. With
• 54:22
Speaker 4: with with Huff, we talked about that charisma he had
• 54:26
Speaker 4: with his players. He had that he had that ability
• 54:29
Speaker 4: to reach them and to motivate them and to get
• 54:32
Speaker 4: them to play their best game and and do all
• 54:34
Speaker 4: the things. We've talked about how positive he was his
• 54:37
Speaker 4: interactions with his his players. It was so positive and uplifting.
• 54:42
Speaker 4: We're hoping that Gibson can have that sort of persona
• 54:46
Speaker 4: as well in the locker room, and it's a tough face.
• 54:49
Speaker 2: It's tough to follow.
• 54:50
Speaker 4: It's a tough thing to follow, absolutely, especially he's not
• 54:52
Speaker 4: been a head coach before. Correct, this is his first
• 54:55
Speaker 4: head coaching job. I think he's been mainly uh, you know,
• 54:58
Speaker 4: coordinators on the side. And but you know, Marshall has
• 55:02
Speaker 4: faith in him. They gave him a six year contract,
• 55:05
Speaker 4: so to me, that says and I think that was
• 55:08
Speaker 4: part of why he was so attracted.
• 55:10
  Speaker 2: That's that's that's that's big.
• 55:12
Speaker 4: Six year contract. And I think the reason why was
• 55:14
Speaker 4: because he wanted to come home. He's from here, and
• 55:17
Speaker 4: I think Marshall has faith that he is dedicated to
• 55:20
Speaker 4: the program and not looking elsewhere at this point.
• 55:25
Speaker 2: But I think everybody, I think once you have success,
• 55:28
Speaker 2: whether you're looking or not, somebody's somebody's gonna look at you.
• 55:34
Speaker 4: Oh sure, sure, Yeah. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen.
• 55:37
Speaker 4: It won't happen. It depends on the success he has
• 55:39
  Speaker 4: it At Marshall in a way, he's a curse. It's
• 55:41
Speaker 4: a blessing and a curse when you do well. We
• 55:43
  Speaker 4: know that.
• 55:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean this is this is gonna be
• 55:46
Speaker 2: this is really going to be tough. If he can't
• 55:48
  Speaker 2: hold these guys.
• 55:51
  Speaker 4: I know it's it's concerning, but you know we're not
• 55:55
Speaker 4: the only one out there experiencing this, and we can't
• 55:58
Speaker 4: feel like we're special war alone. It's everywhere at our.
• 56:02
Speaker 2: Why do I think this is the worst? Though this
• 56:04
Speaker 2: might be the worst. Is this may be the worst
• 56:07
  Speaker 2: portal situation.
• 56:09
Speaker 4: In recent in recent history. Yeah, I mean it's probably close.
• 56:13
Speaker 4: JMU was pretty tough too, I'm telling you I.
