- 0:00Speaker 1: Well good afternoon listeners thank you for listening to lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of hope podcast and i'm very grateful this is gonna
- 0:08Speaker 1: be a little unconventional because if you're watching this you're
- 0:11Speaker 1: gonna see it's just the logo for the podcast but
- 0:15Speaker 1: dr katina and i really tried and unfortunately we weren't
- 0:18Speaker 1: able to do video but that's okay um.
- 0:22Speaker 2: We can defend ourselves if we're attacked this kind of
- 0:24Speaker 2: thing but you know the idea about using violence and
- 0:28Speaker 2: hatred this was not what he did that's our inclination
- 0:32Speaker 2: as humans and we have to fight that we have
- 0:36Speaker 2: to fight that inclination because it's a natural thing and
- 0:39Speaker 2: the crowd will be kind of pushing in that direction
- 0:42Speaker 2: look at these people look what they're doing and it's
- 0:45Speaker 2: very easy to have that anger to well up in
- 0:47Speaker 2: you and to go after them but you gotta kind
- 0:49Speaker 2: of take a step back and say wait a minute
- 0:53Speaker 2: this is not a Christian response. This is not how
- 0:55Speaker 2: Christ behaved when he was, when he was faced with
- 0:57Speaker 2: these things. He never, he never killed anybody. He never
- 1:00Speaker 2: attacked anybody. Um, he, you know, he said, I can call,
- 1:04Speaker 2: you know, I can ask my father, send down legions
- 1:06Speaker 2: of angels to come and rescue me. But he didn't. Um, he,
- 1:11Speaker 2: he died for us. So, and that's, you know, it's
- 1:15Speaker 2: pretty telling. I mean, you look at, you look at
- 1:17Speaker 2: the history of the church. It was built on basically
- 1:19Speaker 2: the blood of the blood of martyrs out of his expression. Um,
- 1:23Speaker 2: maybe it's a Catholic expression, you can tell me, but
- 1:25Speaker 2: what we say is the blood of the martyrs is
- 1:27Speaker 2: the seed of the church. And, you know, what an
- 1:31Speaker 2: incredible witness that you're, you know, our martyrs are people
- 1:35Speaker 2: that died for the faith as lambs led to a slaughter.
- 1:38Speaker 2: They didn't fight, they didn't resist. Those 21 Egyptian Coptic
- 1:42Speaker 2: Christians were slaughtered on the beach by ISIS. Not a
- 1:45Speaker 2: single one of them renounced Christ. Not a single one. Amazing. Like,
- 1:49Speaker 2: give me God, give me that courage. Like, imagine that.
- 1:52Speaker 2: All 21 were killed in a terrible, brutal way. Not
- 1:56Speaker 2: a single one. All they had to do was renounce Christ,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and the ISIS guys would let them go. Okay, I
- 2:01Speaker 2: renounce Christ, I'll become a Muslim. They would let them go.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Not a single one renounced them. So our approach as
- 2:08Speaker 2: a Christian has to be different, and it's hard. That's
- 2:12Speaker 2: why Christianity is much harder than any other religion. It's hard.
- 2:16Speaker 2: It's hard work, because it goes against our nature. So
- 2:20Speaker 2: I think it's You know, don't be afraid to remind
- 2:22Speaker 2: yourself of that. Don't be afraid of getting angry and opposing,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you know, you know, we all do it, right? We say, okay,
- 2:29Speaker 2: this is, you know, my natural feeling. What, what should
- 2:32Speaker 2: I do as a Christian? What should my response be?
- 2:34Speaker 2: How can I approach this problem? But it is, it
- 2:38Speaker 2: is something which is hard.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah. But you know, it is funny because we become
- 2:42Speaker 1: more human when we become more like Christ. We're actually
- 2:46Speaker 1: becoming more like we, you know, before the fall. being
- 2:51Speaker 1: perfect in the sense of like, it's so interesting. I
- 2:56Speaker 1: just had a conversation with a woman who's a deaf
- 2:59Speaker 1: doula and she sits with people who are dying. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: she was talking about how you can't have resurrection without death.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And there's a deaf to oneself so that one can
- 3:10Speaker 1: experience and know, like you said, like the joy of being,
- 3:16Speaker 1: like what you said with St. Francis of Assisi, he
- 3:18Speaker 1: knew Christ more and then saw how unhuman he was
- 3:22Speaker 1: without him, you know? Right. Um, can I ask in Sudan,
- 3:28Speaker 1: when you're talking with people in your, if you have
- 3:32Speaker 1: a patient who asks you a spiritual question, I don't
- 3:34Speaker 1: know if that ever happens. Do you ever get an opportunity?
- 3:37Speaker 1: How do you navigate that as a doctor? Like, do you,
- 3:41Speaker 1: do you kind of, can you say anything or do
- 3:43Speaker 1: you have to be very careful about that? I mean,
- 3:45Speaker 1: how do you navigate that with so many people in
- 3:48Speaker 1: so little time?
