Transcript
- 0:00Adam: Hello and welcome to the Adam and Dietra Show, and we're back.
- 0:05Dedra: It's it's definitely been a minute.
- 0:06Dedra: It's been probably a million of them, actually.
- 0:10Dedra: But we're here.
- 0:11Dedra: Yes, we are here.
- 0:12Dedra: A lot to share with you guys, a lot of experiences.
- 0:15Dedra: I mean, I know when we were out, I posted and tried to keep you guys updated with like the places that we went to, but now we actually get to talk about it.
- 0:23Adam: Yes, absolutely.
- 0:24Adam: And we're gonna be talking about Oktoberfest.
- 0:27Adam: And not just any Oktoberfest.
- 0:30Adam: Munich, Germany, Oktoberfest.
- 0:33Adam: We went, we experienced and had a whole bunch of wonderful beer to talk about.
- 0:38Adam: So here we are.
- 0:42Dedra: First things first, my shirt, of course, is a Dixon.
- 0:45Dedra: Um, but since it's October, it's breast cancer, you know, just awareness month, and this is their hell boobies.
- 0:50Dedra: Um, and also because, and I don't know if you can see very well, but basketball has now started again, and of course, suns, so go suns.
- 1:00Adam: And we're drinking something from North Park.
- 1:02Adam: I had this in the fridge, and I think it's about time we had it.
- 1:05Adam: It's a triple dry hop, double IPA, 8.5% called juicefulness.
- 1:11Adam: And just sitting here, I can actually smell the aroma of pretty much everything going on in there.
- 1:17Adam: All the hops, just the wonderful color.
- 1:20Adam: It's a nice, hazy, oh my gosh.
- 1:22Adam: My mouth's watering, so we're gonna have to cheers right now.
- 1:27Dedra: Cheers.
- 1:29Adam: And uh yep, that has a ton of flavor.
- 1:34Adam: That is really good.
- 1:36Adam: And uh I like the picture.
- 1:38Adam: It's like a little, I don't know what the heck this little circle thing is.
- 1:42Dedra: It looks like an egg yolk.
- 1:43Adam: It's an egg yolk and a hop inside of a little dish.
- 1:46Adam: It's just soaking up inside the beer, letting all the flavor of egg yolk and hops inside this beer.
- 1:54Dedra: Why not a little egg yolk with your hops?
- 1:57Adam: Yeah, you gotta have it.
- 1:58Adam: I think there was a beer from Brew Dogs that they did something, I think it was in New York, and they because it was the big apple, said they did this apple-infused beer, but they also did smoked egg yolks and put it inside the cup so you drank it with the beer.
- 2:15Adam: Really interesting.
- 2:17Dedra: That's crazy.
- 2:17Dedra: That would be an interesting one to watch.
- 2:20Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:20Adam: That was an interesting show.
- 2:21Adam: Brewdogs.
- 2:22Adam: I mean, when's the last time you even heard of it?
- 2:24Adam: But actually, I think um in our travels, I think we found it twice.
- 2:28Adam: So I'm gonna start it off.
- 2:30Adam: Uh, we went to Italy first.
- 2:33Adam: We're talking about Oktoberfest first because of the theme.
- 2:37Adam: It's October right now, and it's right after the fa the festival ended, and I think it's just good timing.
- 2:44Adam: So our travels started for on a train ride, driving through Austria into Munich, and it actually was not a bad drive uh drive.
- 2:55Dedra: Train ride, yes.
- 2:56Dedra: Other than the fact that we were facing the back of the train, so everything was backwards instead of come, you know, coming at us.
- 3:04Dedra: So that was a little bit weird, but that was a great train ride.
- 3:08Adam: Yes, yes, the Deutsche Bahn, which I mean, I think Bonn means train, so it was German train.
- 3:14Adam: They really thought long and hard of these names.
- 3:18Dedra: That was fun though.
- 3:19Dedra: I I enjoyed that.
- 3:20Dedra: Um, because they how long of a train ride was that?
- 3:24Adam: Five and a half or six and a half hours somewhere around.
- 3:27Dedra: It was really that long.
- 3:28Adam: It didn't feel like it did it.
- 3:29Dedra: Holy smokes.
- 3:29Dedra: No, just be it was beautiful, just the scenery of leaving Italy and going up.
- 3:35Dedra: It was it was beautiful.
- 3:36Dedra: We took a ton of pictures, and the pictures never do it justice, but for it being a six, five and a half, six hour train ride, they of course they served alcohol on this train and food.
- 3:49Dedra: Um, so we did our fair share of research and got a little food and got some got some drinks.
- 3:55Dedra: Yes, absolutely.
- 3:56Adam: And it was through the the Alps and uh and it was right straight through Austria.
- 4:01Adam: We got to see castles, um, especially the northern part of Italy, all the vineyards that were right there as we were driving through.
- 4:08Adam: I mean, that was just like it was just beautiful, and going um, like you said, backwards.
- 4:14Adam: So we almost like saw things late.
- 4:15Adam: So as we got to them, we were looking, like, oh my gosh, look at that.
- 4:19Adam: But we couldn't see what was coming.
- 4:20Adam: And I uh yeah, I think pictures could have been better if we had a warning of what was coming.
- 4:26Dedra: It is when it is, yeah.
- 4:28Adam: But it was a it was a beautiful ride, and I think we started out, or I I I got a German beer, so I I think I got a Marsan.
- 4:36Adam: Um, it was like, hey, we're going to Oktoberfest.
- 4:38Adam: I gotta get a Marzan, right?
- 4:40Adam: But um it was from Gosser.
- 4:44Adam: I don't know how to say any of the words in German.
- 4:47Adam: I apologize if uh for those of you who understand German or know how to pronounce it.
- 4:51Adam: I I have a I have some words written right over there that's gonna kind of tell me what it is because I cannot remember that.
- 4:58Adam: It is a hard language.
- 5:00Dedra: Very much, very much.
- 5:01Adam: I know a little bit of Spanish, Spanish, I know a little bit of Italian, I know a little bit of English.
- 5:09Dedra: Just enough to get you by.
- 5:10Dedra: Yeah, I'm German.
- 5:12Adam: I know like four words, and one of them is beer.
- 5:16Dedra: So I actually got a beer from Austria, and it was a pillager uh Putin Putin Putengamer.
- 5:25Adam: I don't know how to say it.
- 5:27Adam: Man, you gotta say it like Arnold Schwarzenegger because it's from Austria.
- 5:31Adam: I've got some Putengammer.
- 5:36Dedra: That is a place that I would struggle to survive.
- 5:41Dedra: Like, I feel like I do well reading, but good lord.
- 5:47Adam: Yeah.
- 5:48Adam: I'm like, we have to go to the Ostenheimer.
- 5:51Adam: I'm like, oh my god.
- 5:53Adam: No, we missed it.
- 5:55Dedra: Now we're at the Ovenheimer.
- 5:57Dedra: We're trying to ask for help.
- 6:00Dedra: Oh god.
- 6:01Dedra: I'm surprised we made it back to work.
- 6:06Adam: I learned how to say that because I couldn't say anything in German except for do you speak English?
- 6:11Adam: It's funny.
- 6:14Adam: But uh the beer was good.
- 6:16Adam: I think we had like three.
- 6:17Adam: I had I think we had three each on the on the train ride.
- 6:20Adam: So we got there and well, I also had wine.
- 6:23Adam: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 6:24Adam: You had that little half bottle.
- 6:26Adam: That was pretty cool.
- 6:26Adam: That was.
- 6:28Dedra: I enjoy that because I can only drink so much beer, and then I'm just like, oh, you get like beer logged.
- 6:33Dedra: I don't know if anybody else gets that.
- 6:34Dedra: Um but think I said anybody else.
- 6:39Dedra: Um, so I could feel that like on a train.
- 6:42Dedra: So I was like, oh my gosh, I thank God they have wine.
- 6:46Dedra: So I ordered some red, and that was nice.
- 6:48Dedra: That was that was a good way to break it up.
- 6:50Dedra: And then once we got to Germany, then it was just all the way a beer all the way.
- 6:54Adam: Yeah.
- 6:55Adam: We stopped, and man, that was an experience.
- 6:59Adam: And uh we got to the train yard.
- 7:02Adam: Well, number one, we get to the stop and we're getting our stuff, and there's a guy in the way, we're trying to get past him.
- 7:07Adam: He doesn't really speak very good English either.
- 7:09Adam: We got past him, we go to open the door and it's it won't open.
- 7:13Adam: So we missed our stop, had to get to the next one.
- 7:16Dedra: If you're not standing up and you're not at that door by the time that train stops, you're stuck on the train until the next stop.
- 7:25Dedra: And that's exactly what happened.
- 7:27Dedra: We figured like as soon as the train stopped, we'd get up.
- 7:30Dedra: And it was like a few, maybe a few rows down to the exit.
- 7:34Dedra: No, no.
- 7:35Dedra: The train started, like we got to the door and we're trying, like Adam said, trying to open it, and it then it just took off.
- 7:42Dedra: And we're like, no, no.
- 7:46Adam: So we went one step further, and we went to their main train yard, and oh my gosh.
- 7:52Adam: So, okay, there's a bunch of train tracks.
- 7:54Adam: We assume one of them is gonna take us back the direction that we need to go.
- 7:59Adam: Um, none of them went the direction that we needed to go.
- 8:02Dedra: Man, it was like we need to go that way, and they're all going this way.
- 8:07Dedra: It was just like, or we need to go this way, and they're all going in circles.
- 8:12Dedra: Yeah, none of them went straight.
- 8:14Dedra: I don't know.
- 8:15Dedra: It was it was the most confusing confusing experience.
- 8:19Dedra: And how you and I survived that without like fighting and screaming and yelling and arguing and dragging to just lost, and then there's just drunk people coming back from Oktoberfest all around that train station.
- 8:36Dedra: So it was yeah, that on top of just having to do luggage, not knowing the train station made zero sense.
- 8:43Adam: Yeah, there's 15 tracks, and how does none of them be the right one?
- 8:47Dedra: It's like you gotta go above ground, ground level, you gotta go underground, and then once you go underground, like your cell cover, your cell coverage just like drops.
- 8:55Dedra: Yeah.
- 8:56Dedra: So you really gotta like screenshot where you have to go, or I don't even think you could.
- 9:03Adam: No.
- 9:03Adam: And remember that underground too.
- 9:05Adam: There was a second underground that went even further.
- 9:08Dedra: Man, it was rough.
- 9:10Dedra: I like I said, I'm I'm surprised we're we made it back here at home.
- 9:14Adam: They all had track numbers, and but the train numbers were similar, so it was just like go to s2 on on two.
- 9:20Adam: And it was just like, well, okay, which track two?
- 9:24Adam: This track two or the track two that's over there.
- 9:27Adam: And what is train two on s two?
- 9:29Adam: Because there's S's here.
- 9:30Adam: There's I I don't, it didn't make no sense.
- 9:33Adam: We figured it out though.
- 9:34Adam: So we got two of the hotel room somehow.
- 9:39Dedra: So once, like right where our train dropped us off, our hotel was like five to seven minutes walking distance.
- 9:47Adam: Oh yeah, forgot.
- 9:48Dedra: So it probably took like about two, two and a half hours to finally get to the hotel.
- 9:54Dedra: Oh my god, I've never been in more need of a beer than once we finally found our hotel.
- 10:01Adam: Well, it was on street level.
- 10:03Adam: We go out and we're like, no, it's on the other side of the thing.
- 10:06Adam: So you can't go around a train station.
- 10:08Adam: So we're like, crap, we're gonna have to go back underground and then come up the other side.
- 10:12Adam: So we did that, and then there's a bunch of more tracks on when you when you go above ground.
- 10:18Adam: So we walked up and down, we're like, what the hell?
- 10:20Adam: And I just happened to look and I see this bridge going across.
- 10:24Adam: So to get to that train, to get it to our side of where our hotel was, you had to go underground to that side, go back up to level ground, then walk down, take an elevator or stairs up again to a bridge that takes you, you have to walk across to another elevator or stairs, go down, walk across the street, and you're finally in the section where our hotel was.
- 10:46Dedra: So, and where we were, like you're allowed to drink in public.
- 10:50Dedra: So there was actually a lot of like right where we were, there was a lot of broken glass, like people drop their beers, whatever it is, but there was also a lot of a lot of broken glass.
- 11:00Dedra: And I think of course I was wearing sandals because I don't know, I don't know any better sometimes.
- 11:05Dedra: Everywhere we'll be on a train all day.
- 11:08Dedra: I could just I'll be comfortable.
- 11:09Dedra: Um, but no, I didn't expect that.
- 11:11Dedra: I didn't expect to get off the train and have to trample through areas of broken glass.
- 11:17Dedra: God, that was a mess.
- 11:19Adam: Yeah, but we had uh dinner and we had a beer finally, and um one thing that I noticed in in uh Germany, there's breweries or there's bars, or there's um not really bars, but like restaurants and stuff.
- 11:31Adam: And the beer selection is very limited compared to what we're used to.
- 11:35Adam: You know, you we're used to going to a bar and 15 choices, 20 choices.
- 11:41Adam: I mean, you get a lot of options a lot of times going to restaurants and and bars over there.
- 11:45Adam: It was just like, what do you want?
- 11:47Adam: Do you want the Hellas?
- 11:48Adam: Do you want the Dunkel or do you want the Weisbeer?
- 11:50Adam: And that was pretty much the choices.
- 11:53Dedra: Yeah.
- 11:53Adam: But it was good beer.
- 11:54Adam: I mean, it was all uh you know, local, relatively local beers that uh we were able to have.
- 12:00Adam: And um on one of the days we were there, we didn't spend the whole time at Oktoberfest because we gotta experience the city a little bit.
- 12:09Adam: And one of the places uh that we went to um in the English gardens was this beer garden, and I think it was the Hofbrough house that uh put this one on.
- 12:18Adam: That was a really neat experience.
- 12:21Dedra: Yeah, that was super cool.
- 12:22Adam: Weather was beautiful.
- 12:24Dedra: So we did a bike tour, yeah, and I don't think the both of us have ridden bikes in a long time.
- 12:29Dedra: So I was like, oh, yes, and there's a big group of us, like what, 20?
- 12:36Dedra: Yes, at least right around there.
- 12:38Dedra: So, you know, you and I not being on bikes forever in a crowd with a group going down these busy streets, that was another mess.
- 12:48Dedra: I didn't fall.
- 12:49Dedra: I I for sure I was like, I'm gonna clip somebody's bike tire and I'm done.
- 12:53Dedra: Like I'm just gonna eat shit and that's it.
- 12:56Dedra: And I did not, I did not eat shit, did not clip anybody's bike.
- 13:00Dedra: I did good.
- 13:02Dedra: That was a win.
- 13:03Dedra: And then after we left the beer garden, I was like, oh man, everybody probably at least tried to slam one or two beers in the time that we were there.
- 13:13Dedra: And I was like, I hope everybody stays in their lane.
- 13:18Dedra: And mainly me good liters.
- 13:21Adam: I mean, those things are that was uh that was pretty legit.
- 13:25Adam: A liter of beer, which is about 33, 30 between 33, just over 33 ounces, I think.
- 13:30Adam: And having that dunkel at 8%, and you got the Hellas, I think it was like at 4.5 or something like that.
- 13:36Adam: Yeah.
- 13:36Adam: But we drank that whole thing, had sausage, pretzels, french fries, and it's like after spending time in Italy, it was a much different type of food that we were getting.
- 13:50Dedra: Very much.
- 13:51Dedra: So they had there was also a hot dog, I think it was like a beef hot dog.
- 13:55Dedra: So I think was it a beef hot dog?
- 13:57Dedra: I think we just asked them one of each.
- 13:59Dedra: Okay.
- 14:00Dedra: So we got a white bratwurst, and I was like, what the heck?
- 14:04Dedra: A white one?
- 14:04Dedra: Yeah.
- 14:05Dedra: Like it was just a straight, like, it looked like a banana.
- 14:08Dedra: I was like, oh, one of each, I guess.
- 14:12Adam: It was good.
- 14:13Dedra: Yeah, that was actually my favorite.
- 14:15Dedra: I really so we got to the table and I'm like, hmm, all right, I gotta try this.
- 14:20Dedra: And then I was like, oh, damn it, it's actually really good.
- 14:23Dedra: Yeah, I liked that one better than I think it was just like the regular beef hot dog.
- 14:27Dedra: Oh, and then the mustard.
- 14:29Adam: That mustard was good.
- 14:30Adam: Oh man.
- 14:32Adam: I don't know if you remember.
- 14:33Adam: I'm like, this is different than regular mustard.
- 14:35Dedra: I don't remember very much.
- 14:37Adam: I did like yellow mustard.
- 14:38Adam: I just squirted from that little thing, but I'm like, this mustard tastes good.
- 14:42Adam: And I like mustard anyway, but that one was just really good.
- 14:46Adam: So I I don't know, I enjoyed that, but that was really good.
- 14:49Adam: Went down easy.
- 14:51Adam: And we didn't, we were just full too, because it was like well, we had to slam that beer really fast.
- 14:57Dedra: Like 33, yeah, 33 ounces, that was a lot.
- 15:00Dedra: And then you gotta climb back onto a bike after beer and having uh bratwurst and french fries.
- 15:06Adam: And you had 30 minutes to do it all.
- 15:09Dedra: Did it?
- 15:09Adam: Yeah, we did.
- 15:10Adam: Yellow.
- 15:11Adam: Yeah, it was pretty cool.
- 15:12Adam: I mean, we we paid for it, and you get like a token so that you know in order to bring the put cup back, they give you two two euro back to make sure that you it is uh we call it insurance that you bring your cup back, or you just buy a glass for two dollars, I guess.
- 15:27Adam: I don't know.
- 15:28Dedra: Yeah, I think I'm lugging that around all day and you still got a bike tour.
- 15:32Dedra: Be smart.
- 15:34Dedra: But that was even I knew that was a bad choice.
- 15:37Adam: Yeah.
- 15:38Adam: But we had a good time and we went around and we ended up stopping at a tap house, which was really neat.
- 15:44Adam: It was kind of like the the chairs were right in the middle of the street.
- 15:48Adam: It was uh Schneiderwise.
- 15:50Adam: Now that's not one of the big six breweries that are invited to Oktoberfest, but I got a really good beer there.
- 15:56Adam: So I got a uh Iisbach, and uh I'm gonna try to read this name here, so please excuse me for a minute.
- 16:03Adam: I think it was Aventus, Aventus, Aventus Icebach, but it was a 12% uh I think it was like a Belgian strong ale or something, and that one was really good.
- 16:15Adam: That was probably in Germany, it was the most unique beer that I got uh in the entire place.
- 16:23Adam: And it was so funny because we were sitting there and it was like an outdoor patio.
- 16:27Adam: Most of the the seating is all like bench bench tables, like picnic tables.
- 16:31Dedra: And you could probably sit like six on each side, so they're big.
- 16:34Dedra: And thanks for asking.
- 16:36Dedra: I got a Hellas, by the way.
- 16:40Adam: I I knew what you got.
- 16:42Dedra: But I didn't ask you to share it.
- 16:44Dedra: I'm sorry.
- 16:44Dedra: They didn't know what I got.
- 16:46Adam: Very true.
- 16:46Dedra: But I mean, with it being a liter of beer, we're like, okay, I can only drink so much, and I don't want to be done after my first liter and then mess up the rest of the night.
- 16:56Dedra: So I was like, I'm gonna stick with the Hellas.
- 16:58Dedra: Yeah, I'm gonna take it easy.
- 16:59Dedra: That's that's a lot of beer drinking.
- 17:01Dedra: My stomach's not that big.
- 17:04Dedra: It was about four hours ago on the tour.
- 17:09Adam: Well, you had the Hellas at the festival, and then you had the Hellas at Schneiderwise, too.
- 17:14Dedra: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:15Dedra: I was drinking a lot of that because there was that everywhere.
- 17:17Dedra: Just being in a foreign country, I was like, I don't want to, I don't want to lose my wits about myself.
- 17:24Dedra: And because I was like, we still gotta get to that main that train station and work our way through it again.
- 17:30Dedra: So I was like, all right, I gotta be chill on this.
- 17:32Dedra: Yeah, one of us has to.
- 17:36Adam: But uh that was really fun.
- 17:37Adam: I I enjoyed being there.
- 17:38Adam: We walked around the city a little bit, uh, went to quite a few places there.
- 17:42Adam: One of them, and I am gonna talk about this, is my absolute favorite German beer that I've had, and it's from Anger, and it's the celebrator Doppelbach.
- 17:53Adam: Absolutely amazing top-notch beer.
- 17:57Adam: I absolutely love that one.
- 17:59Adam: I've got it in here.
- 18:00Adam: Over the past 20 years, as soon as Total Wine has made its way to Phoenix, I got that beer not long after that.
- 18:08Adam: When I got into beers, I started with you know Amber Bach and and you know, things like that.
- 18:15Adam: And when I considered craft beer, went to a lot of the dark beers and Corona a crafter?
- 18:23Adam: No.
- 18:23Adam: Went to Guinness and uh Shiner Bach out of Texas, and then I found that celebrator, and I was like, this is the best tasting beer I have ever had.
- 18:35Adam: And I went into a lot of other things, Hefeweizens, and just went round and round with a with a bunch of a bunch of different styles, but that beer holds a place in my heart, has the little ram that's hanging from there.
- 18:47Adam: I used to get six packs, and they all had little rams hanging from from the bottles, and it was just it was just a wonderful beer.
- 18:54Adam: We found the tap room while we were walking around, and I'm like, oh man, I have to go.
- 18:59Dedra: Well, no, no, no, because I was I thought we came across that on the bike tour, and then we're like, okay, we gotta remember this and come back.
- 19:06Adam: Yes, yes, we did.
- 19:07Adam: Very true.
- 19:08Dedra: And then so and because you were like, Oh, this is the greatest beer ever.
- 19:12Dedra: So I was like, All right, all right, I guess I'll have it too.
- 19:15Dedra: So I had that with you, and then hours.
- 19:17Dedra: Oh yeah, it was good.
- 19:20Adam: And I have such a story about it, and you're like, It hurts my heart.
- 19:30Dedra: If I was on um untapped, I'd give it about a 3.1.
- 19:35Dedra: But it's funny because our our waiter, he came over and he was like, Oh, I've got another beer that we actually poured directly out of a like a little small barrel that's behind the behind the bar.
- 19:50Dedra: He was like, Do you want to try it?
- 19:52Dedra: I'm like, Yes, yes, I do.
- 19:55Dedra: Follow me.
- 19:57Dedra: Instinct should have been this is the setup of a kidnapping situation.
- 20:03Dedra: And I was just like, I'm I'm right behind you.
- 20:08Dedra: Sure.
- 20:08Dedra: Follow.
- 20:09Dedra: Let's go.
- 20:10Dedra: Lead the way.
- 20:11Dedra: I'm gonna follow close behind so I don't lose you.
- 20:15Adam: That's funny.
- 20:16Dedra: Um, but yeah, he took me inside to the bar and they legit had on a stand a barrel just right there, right behind the bar, and he would just poured it right there.
- 20:27Dedra: And I was like, Oh, that's that is awesome.
- 20:29Dedra: I was like, that's the best probably experience I've ever had and I'm ever going to have.
- 20:34Adam: Yeah.
- 20:35Adam: What it was?
- 20:35Dedra: I don't remember.
- 20:36Dedra: I don't know either.
- 20:38Adam: Probably some sort of color beer, but it was it was good.
- 20:40Dedra: The experience, the experience was really cool.
- 20:42Adam: And it came in a ceramic mug, so we couldn't even see the color of it, and then the foam on top.
- 20:46Adam: So it's like we're drinking.
- 20:48Adam: Have no idea what it even looked like, what color it was.
- 20:50Adam: I'm like, it tastes like beer, it's great.
- 20:54Dedra: And then you just let me go.
- 20:57Adam: Well, didn't you say it was kind of weird?
- 20:58Adam: You get over there and he's just like, Why are you following me?
- 21:01Dedra: Yeah, you're right.
- 21:02Dedra: And he gets behind the bar and he's like, I'm like, uh, the beer.
- 21:07Dedra: He was like, Oh yeah.
- 21:09Dedra: It's like, dude, why are you side-eyeing me?
- 21:13Dedra: You invited me over here for this.
- 21:16Adam: Yeah.
- 21:17Dedra: I don't know.
- 21:18Dedra: I guess he didn't think I was serious.
- 21:20Adam: I don't know.
- 21:20Adam: Maybe they do things different in Germany.
- 21:22Adam: I don't know.
- 21:23Adam: I don't know.
- 21:24Dedra: Or maybe I wasn't supposed to follow him.
- 21:27Adam: Oh man.
- 21:28Dedra: I don't know.
- 21:29Dedra: It was an experience.
- 21:30Adam: Yeah, but we had a good time and uh that was a lot of fun.
- 21:33Adam: So the next day.
- 21:33Adam: Yeah, very good.
- 21:36Adam: You're here.
- 21:37Dedra: Yeah.
- 21:38Adam: Um the next day is when we went to Oktoberfest, and we got breakfast, and I I you can't really call it breakfast because it was like uh what was it?
- 21:48Adam: Like coleslaw, a full potato that was sitting on the plate, and like a pork chop with gravy all over it.
- 21:57Adam: Yeah, and a little salad too that had I think it was bell pepper and lettuce, and I don't even know if it had dressing, but doesn't matter because we were more focused on the meat and potato.
- 22:07Dedra: That was really good.
- 22:08Adam: That was really good, yeah.
- 22:09Adam: But there was a a brewery that was right next door, and it we got it at a few different places.
- 22:15Adam: And I'm gonna back up a little bit, go into the hotel.
- 22:18Adam: When we first checked in, we heard some people, hey, where's my few free beer?
- 22:22Adam: And we're like, hey, how do we get free beer?
- 22:24Adam: And this hotel had a service or maybe lack of service, which is okay with us because they said if we don't go in your room, if you don't if you choose not to get your room turned, like have sheets redone and your room service, basically.
- 22:38Adam: Whatever it is, I don't know, towels.
- 22:40Adam: And um they said you get a free beer.
- 22:42Adam: So you just hang this thing out on your doorknob.
- 22:44Adam: Don't clean clean my room.
- 22:46Adam: I'd rather have a free beer.
- 22:47Adam: So heck yeah, we did that.
- 22:49Dedra: Every night that you are there and you don't get your room serviced, you get a free beer.
- 22:54Dedra: And they've got a cooler right behind where you check in.
- 22:57Dedra: And that's what like intrigued me because hearing that guy come in, I was like, what?
- 23:03Dedra: You guys give away free beer?
- 23:04Dedra: How do we do this?
- 23:06Dedra: So we did not get our room service until we left.
- 23:11Adam: And there was Hellas was the most prominent thing that we saw.
- 23:15Adam: Yeah.
- 23:15Adam: But uh the brewery that was right there next to the place we had breakfast, worksviertel.
- 23:21Adam: Yes, that's what it was.
- 23:22Adam: Worksvird.
- 23:26Dedra: That's what I would say.
- 23:27Adam: Yep, and uh we had that a few times because we each got a uh like a separate different beer each time, um, both for the nights that we were at over there, and we got that beer while we were sitting there eating breakfast that morning.
- 23:40Adam: We tried to go into the brewery to to get it, but they weren't open.
- 23:44Adam: Uh, they must have opened later in the day, which was kind of unfortunate.
- 23:47Adam: We did have big windows and we got to see them, see them making it there.
- 23:51Dedra: But uh that was really neat.
- 23:53Adam: We had a very important uh place to get to, and that was Oktoberfest.
- 23:57Adam: So we figured out the trains again, got to the places that we needed to go, had to walk a little ways because we wanted to stop at a couple different shops before we went, but we got into Oktoberfest, and what what a it's like a carnival.
- 24:12Dedra: That was insane, like the experience in itself.
- 24:15Dedra: So, and right as we were because he had to go through this, like this big line, like the little winding thing, kind of like when you do security check at the airport.
- 24:23Dedra: That was what it was like trying to get into Oktoberfest.
- 24:26Dedra: But once we got inside Oktoberfest, it was literally it was the place, it's huge.
- 24:32Dedra: It's huge.
- 24:33Dedra: There's rides, like roller coaster rides, like regular rides and stuff like that for kids, for everybody.
- 24:39Dedra: There's a ton of vendors there, there's food vendors, any and everything.
- 24:44Dedra: And then you have all the different, you know, you have all the beer tents.
- 24:48Dedra: That was so just it was really, really cool to see all that in person.
- 24:53Adam: And for those of you that are not familiar with the setup of Oktoberfest, there's six main breweries in Germany, and they follow the German purity laws for making beer.
- 25:06Adam: And they're like the the old ones.
- 25:08Adam: You got uh, I'm not gonna remember the names of all of them, but it was Spottenhaus, Hofburnhau, um Polliner, uh Lohenbrow, and uh two more Augustine or something like that.
- 25:23Adam: And oh man, I'm I I should have that's something I should have written down.
- 25:27Adam: I'm the I'm not I'm not doing bad with my memory, but you know, considering how long those names are.
- 25:33Dedra: That's pretty good.
- 25:35Adam: Uh we ended up walking around that place for for some time, and we ended up in the polymer tent.
- 25:40Adam: And you go into these places, every single one, I mean, just giant, I don't know how many people, these it's like a warehouse.
- 25:48Adam: Each one of these tents is basically a warehouse each.
- 25:52Adam: And they're all singing Sweet Caroline from Neil by Name Neil Diamond.
- 25:57Dedra: Right.
- 25:57Dedra: I feel like from one tent to the other, we just did just timing-wise, it was we started at this tent, and they started the song.
- 26:05Dedra: The next tent, you know, that was the next part, and it was the next part, and the next part, and it was just like we can't get away from this song.
- 26:13Adam: And uh people are encouraged to stand up on their on the benches and you know, hold their beers up and sing with the the songs that are playing.
- 26:21Adam: So that it was really fun, loud, crowded, and just a heck of a time.
- 26:26Adam: And there's people like passed out all over the place too.
- 26:29Adam: It's uh it was that's pretty funny.
- 26:30Dedra: Yeah, it was really neat.
- 26:32Dedra: People are drunk all over the place, dancing, but everybody's just happy, and it's like definitely like an organized chaos.
- 26:39Dedra: And I remember we walked through just on the on the whim, hoping that we can find like an open spot or two at a table.
- 26:47Dedra: No.
- 26:50Adam: If we waited and we did it with things and just asked people if we could sit down, I'm sure we could have found something, but it was warm in there also.
- 26:56Dedra: It was.
- 26:57Dedra: And I so we went through I think two tents, or was it just the one?
- 27:03Dedra: And then we're just like, uh, we found a spot outside.
- 27:05Dedra: Perfect, thankfully, and yes, so it was like right before you walk into polyner, there was um bunch of tables outside.
- 27:14Dedra: So we're like, well, we'll just we'll we'll sit outside.
- 27:16Dedra: And there was another couple that was sitting at the table, so we asked if we could sit with them, and they're like, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 27:22Dedra: You know, sit with us.
- 27:23Dedra: And we're like, Oh, you speak English.
- 27:26Dedra: Perfect.
- 27:27Dedra: Yeah, and I was like, Oh my god.
- 27:30Adam: They spoke the Phoenician English also.
- 27:32Adam: Just kidding.
- 27:36Dedra: So it was nice because then we were able to start um talking with them, and they had another couple friends that were with them, and they showed up a couple minutes later after we had already started talking, and it was nice to actually have other people that we could speak English with.
- 27:50Dedra: Yeah.
- 27:51Adam: But the craziest thing, I mean, there's probably tens of thousands, there was probably tens of thousands people at this place.
- 27:58Adam: We sit at a table, and I thought a pretty good spot.
- 28:03Adam: It was like the alley or the walkway to get in was right here.
- 28:06Adam: There was uh a break um going the opposite direction, and there was this crosswind coming out, so it was cool where we were sitting, it was in the shade, really good spot.
- 28:16Adam: And the people that are right across from us, um, older couple, just happened to be from Phoenix.
- 28:24Dedra: They were great, great people.
- 28:25Dedra: I wish I would have remembered what their names were, but they were just great, great people.
- 28:30Dedra: Their friends um that showed up uh actually had ended up leaving.
- 28:34Dedra: I think they were from Denver, um, but they ended up taking off.
- 28:38Dedra: So the couple from Phoenix had stayed there and we had talked to them for a while, and then another group came through and they sat down with us on that end of the table, and they didn't do too bad as far as like their English uh went.
- 28:50Dedra: So we were able to hold a conversation with them as well, and it was just a really, really fun time.
- 28:55Adam: Yeah, those people were really good.
- 28:56Adam: I mean, they're Germans and they're like, we drove we drove 225 kilometers to get here, and I had to bust out my calculator.
- 29:03Adam: I'm like, we went uh it was 9,300 kilometers to get there.
- 29:08Adam: I'm like, holy crap.
- 29:10Adam: And uh yeah, that's another thing being out there just trying to, you know, in your head translate everything to metric also at the same time of not speaking the language and just added complexities.
- 29:22Adam: It's like you talked about the temperature outside.
- 29:24Adam: Oh, it's it's at least 26 degrees out here, and we're like, hang on, it's not freezing.
- 29:29Adam: Uh that nine divided by five minus thirty-two.
- 29:33Adam: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 29:35Dedra: That's why like I I really leaned heavily on my ability to like play charades and talk to people.
- 29:43Dedra: So it was just like, uh, beer.
- 29:47Adam: Yeah, but it was fun.
- 29:48Adam: They had one beer uh while we were at that at that tent.
- 29:51Adam: Um, usually I think they have three, but uh maybe because of the amount of people that are there, they're just like, we're pouring one beer today.
- 29:58Dedra: Well, it was a polymer tent.
- 29:59Adam: Yeah.
- 29:59Adam: Well, I mean, they sometimes they'll have the dunkel and and and whatnot.
- 30:03Adam: But yeah, they just had one beer.
- 30:05Dedra: Right.
- 30:05Dedra: So in the center, actually on the inside of the tent, that's where they do live music.
- 30:10Dedra: So they have a lady there that's you know just egging everybody on.
- 30:14Dedra: She's singing, she's getting people up and she's going, and then right behind her is where the live band is.
- 30:20Dedra: And you go in and it's just such a great atmosphere.
- 30:23Dedra: It was such a great atmosphere, and just to see everybody just singing together and um at the tables and the benches and just everybody having a blast, like what you think Oktoberfest is inside those tents.
- 30:38Dedra: It was definitely like that.
- 30:42Adam: It was a lot of fun.
- 30:43Adam: I recommend everybody to try it at least once in their life just to kind of just get the full experience and you know what, I want to do it again and spend more time at the different tents and just seeing everything that goes on.
- 30:56Adam: Uh we had a limited amount of time, but I gotta say that this probably won't be our only time uh visiting on that.
- 31:04Adam: And that, you know, after a few liters of beer or two, and drinking before, before we as we were walking to the Oktoberfest, we had a walking around beer or two that we had to have.
- 31:13Dedra: Yes.
- 31:13Dedra: And that's one thing is you can walk around anywhere out there and have a beer.
- 31:19Dedra: You can go into like a little corner store, grab a beer.
- 31:22Dedra: They even have like bottle openers there at the register for you.
- 31:25Dedra: So you just pop that top and just start drinking it as you walk out of the store and down the sidewalk.
- 31:29Dedra: It's almost like they highly encourage you to do that.
- 31:32Dedra: And it's just like I feel like you get looked at if you don't have a walking beer.
- 31:37Dedra: I mean hydration, right?
- 31:39Dedra: Oh, that's right.
- 31:40Adam: Yeah.
- 31:41Adam: And uh so after the the breakfast beer, the walking around beer, and then Oktoberfest, and then we left, and I think we had to get food, and the night just got fuzzy, so I don't remember what I drank or what I ate.
- 31:55Adam: And I kind of remember uh f running into somebody else that spoke English, and yeah, he was uh he was a crazy man.
- 32:02Dedra: He was so we stopped at one of the food uh the food vendors right before like exiting um Oktoberfest, and there was they didn't have any picnic tables or anything like that.
- 32:14Dedra: Other just had like the stand-up tables that are around, so we couldn't fit like a ton of people, which was fine, but we're able to find one.
- 32:21Dedra: So I was like, okay, get the food, I'll hunker down here, I'll save the table, you go in over here, get the beer.
- 32:28Dedra: And it wasn't like he had to cross the road or anything like that.
- 32:31Dedra: It was just literally like take five steps, and there's like another beer tent right there.
- 32:36Dedra: So I start eating, and then Adam calls and he was like, They won't let me leave the the the tent, the area with your beer.
- 32:43Dedra: And I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm like, okay, I'll be right there.
- 32:46Dedra: So I leave the food and I leave my cell phone there.
- 32:49Dedra: That way, somebody, you know, if they come up to the table, at least they know, like, hey, somebody's gonna be coming back.
- 32:54Dedra: So I do like a whole lap around the tent.
- 32:58Dedra: And I'm like, what the heck?
- 33:00Dedra: Where is he?
- 33:01Dedra: And then he's back at the table with a guy, and he was like, Hey, this guy.
- 33:07Dedra: And he was like, Yeah, I called you again, and then this guy answered your phone.
- 33:11Dedra: I'm like, this guy answered my phone.
- 33:13Dedra: Like, wow.
- 33:16Adam: So don't leave your phone laying around in Germany, is uh basically the moral of the story.
- 33:21Dedra: Or either, because like your picture comes up on my phone.
- 33:24Dedra: So I wonder if he walked by and it was just like, oh, shut up.
- 33:30Adam: But it got pretty fuzzy.
- 33:31Adam: Um it got pretty fuzzy towards the end of the night there.
- 33:36Adam: So we somehow managed to get our train ride back to the hotel room, and somehow woke up at three in the morning and got on another train ride to get to the airport, and we did all of that on time somehow.
- 33:52Dedra: Yeah, I don't know either.
- 33:53Adam: I I don't I don't honestly, I'm like, I remember getting up at three in the morning.
- 33:57Adam: I'm like, man, we got here good.
- 34:02Dedra: And we're gonna fall asleep on the train, or maybe we did, and the the they came and like poked us or something.
- 34:07Adam: Yeah, they probably have some sort of poking stick, right?
- 34:09Dedra: Get off.
- 34:10Dedra: And maybe we got our free beer that night.
- 34:16Adam: No idea.
- 34:16Dedra: I'm gonna say we did.
- 34:19Adam: But we had fun, so that was the uh moral of the story.
- 34:23Adam: It was just a good time.
- 34:24Dedra: It was, it was a very good time.
- 34:26Adam: So I recommend it.
- 34:27Adam: Um my beer has I've been taking the tiniest of sips as it got to the bottom here because I'm like, we gotta do a cheers at the end.
- 34:36Adam: And this was a great beer, honestly.
- 34:38Adam: I I really enjoyed drinking this one.
- 34:40Adam: Me too.
- 34:40Adam: And you know what?
- 34:41Adam: I just realized this right now that it's in collaboration with everywhere also.
- 34:46Adam: So that's nice.
- 34:47Adam: Uh, North Park and Everywhere made that.
- 34:50Dedra: And because it's also Halloween, this is our little zombie foot, but check it out.
- 34:54Dedra: You wind it up.
- 35:02Adam: For those listening, it's a severed foot that taps its toes and rolls forward.
- 35:06Adam: Anyway, but it is pretty cool.
- 35:09Dedra: That was fun, so I had to show you guys it.
- 35:11Adam: Yeah.
- 35:11Adam: But uh thanks for thanks for waiting for us because it's been about a month.
- 35:15Adam: Uh we had preparation that we had to do before we went on this trip.
- 35:19Adam: Uh, we were gone for about two and a half weeks, and uh things that we had to pick up when we got back, also, just not enough time um to do our recordings and actually do what we enjoy.
- 35:30Adam: So um thank you for sticking with us and uh we hope to just be back on week after week and uh cheers everybody.
- 35:39Dedra: Cheers.
- 35:40Adam: I hope you enjoy this with a beer.
