- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: What's up everybody and welcome to another episode of Scouting the Finns football, real live football.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's only a couple of days away.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Training camp is already live in Miami Gardens for the Miami Dolphins, twenty twenty five rookie class.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: pads on burners are blazing.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't just about reps.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's about the first fingerprints of identity.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm joined by my co-host Coach Smith and Eric gentlemen.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, ballers in the air.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: It is, and I am excited to finally be back with you guys.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's been, feels like it's been forever now.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's only been a couple of weeks there.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: But the browser issues are fixed, the scheduling issues are fixed, and I am hyped with the start of training camp opening up, excited to talk some dolphins with you guys tonight.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, this is the best time of the year, right?
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: We are on the eve of the NFL training camps opening up or on the eve essentially of high school football starting up, you know, I talked to people all the time and I tell them that, you know, basically these other sports that I, I help out with and I go to watch, it's all just passing time to get back to football season and you know, here we are, finally.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: it's back to football season and coach and Eric you're going to be along for this ride this season it's time to chart the offensive line in the run game for one more season what are some of the early themes you're sensing on from this off season coach
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I think that we are going to see a more physical attack, right, both from the, you know, the offensive line, right, adding the new starting guards and James Daniels and Jonas of I and I.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know getting the return of Austin Jackson and then you know just Patrick Paul being in massive human being like there's a lot more Physicality up front you know whoever sorts out is that number one white tight end whether it's Julian Hill or Pharaoh Brown that that room is a hole has you know been improved over having germs might and then obviously
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: added some more size in the running back room.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think like I said, we're gonna see a more physical running game overall and hopefully that is able to open some of them, some things up for the passing game.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Eric, every year we talk about the vibe shift going into training camp.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Does this feel like a take the next step roster?
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think it's one that's still sorting itself out?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the thing that kind of excites me and admittedly kind of scares me at the same time with this team is it feels like this is probably the widest range of outcomes that the dolphins have had in a good while.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a team that I can absolutely see being five and twelve or eleven and six.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can see both of those worlds and I can see them both very clearly.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think how this team starts this season is going to be really important.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: because I think when you have some of the, you know, issues hanging over the locker room that they've had over the last, you know, half a year to year or so, starting off strong and kind of getting that good feeling of winning going through the locker room is gonna be pivotal.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I also think, you know, as mentioned, the physicality is gonna be a big deal.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: When you get into those games and late in the season in the cold weather, you're gonna need
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Those you're going to need a more physical approach.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what the dolphins worked on.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's something that we're actually going to see bear some real fruit here.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: Not only between guys like journalists have been naive, James Daniels, but you're also talking about a wider sea of a room that added Nick Westbrook at Q&A.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: who's going to give you some blocking in the run game, as well as give you some red zone opportunities.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: I really like what they've done on the offensive side of the football this off season.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: Defensively, I'm still kind of up in the air about where I think they're at.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: But overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about them right now.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, let's talk about the defense as Eric mentioned.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: How do you balance the excitement of Chop Robinson's here to growth, coupled with the new additions of rookie defensive tackles?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: But not only that, you also have the health question marks are on Bradley Chub and Jalen Phillips.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys might be a hundred percent.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: But if they're out, what does this defense look like with a brand new front seven?
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, go look a whole lot different than what it did last year.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: We used to get took a blast.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: We have chubbed all for last year.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: and didn't have jail of bills for nearly as long as we would have liked.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: So you're not having that.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: We'll look a lot right here with a worse secondary.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that there in a much better position this year, obviously child problems is going to come in a hundred percent look at the building on that rookie season.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: Bradley Chub, you know, it's been over a full year since he has stepped foot on a football field or
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a game scenario, so we should be completely healed.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: No questions at us, right?
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: And Jalen Phillips, where last year, you know, there were questions whether or not he was rushing back from that Achilles injury.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have to ask that question, sure, because having Robinsville one side, having Chub on the other, there is no rush to get Phillips back on the field at a, you know, a six to seventy percent.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the guys that we're adding, we look at the big bodies, the Kenneth Brands, the Jordan Phillips door added at that geek at the top position.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then the depth you have at the edge position is gone.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, if Phillips does not, one hundred percent no questions asked for you to go, you're still a really good shape having Bradley Trump and Chopra Robinson as your age defenders.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: Your linebacker room is deeper.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: your state group should be better than what it was.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously that the quarters are a question.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that given everything you had at least early in the season until we do find out where those injuries are in our pop-up, I think this defense is set up to start the season and the better position in where we started last year.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, I'm looking at a potential deaf chart, just specifically based off the secondary, the starters in the secondary, starting from safety's down.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right now is Micah Fitzpatrick and if he melafon will as the starting safety's for quarter
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: with Jalen Renzi's departure.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: You have stormed up, manning the left side of the field.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: You have cam Smith, manning the right side of the field with your nipple back as cater for ho-ho.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't necessarily strike a lot of confidence.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: in me as the dolphin starting corners.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think there could be a potential surprise?
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a rookie like Jason Marshall Jr.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: or Ashton Davis maybe moving to a cornerback rule or your favorite guy, BJ Adams, making the wrong for potentially.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, so I think that the talent level in the cornerback room is
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: very clearly not what it was last year.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you can also make a really good case that the production that you get out of them might be the same or better this season.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: So really my what I'm most excited for out of the secondary and I guess this is kind of a cop out because it's really not about a lot of the guys in the room although there are some guys that I am excited about.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: like B.J.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: Adams, he actually heard really good things about Jason Marshal Jr.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: throughout the off season.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: So more than willing to see what he has there.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm really more so excited to see what this new, well, not new, but this new wrinkle to the defense is going to bring specifically when it comes to the corners.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because now you have a safety room that
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: you know, Anthony Weaver's comfortable with.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then you've got a front seven that porn paper should be the best that it's been in Miami in a good while.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these young corners, are they going to be left on an island a little bit more?
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, I think that they're set up with everything else so you have around them.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: To be successful in those new simplified roles where it's less about, okay, well, you know, my carrying my man into this zone or am I staying home, you know, you don't have to worry about kind of getting your wires crossed there as much.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: as we saw last to some of those miscommunication gaps that we saw in the secondary.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited about the corner back room specifically because I think that they're going to be asked to do a little bit less this year.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the corners will be left on an island.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's not hand to the rivers.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Philosophy.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty heavy and cover three cover four quarters concepts and covers six.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: But the defense of fronts definitely look very different than what we're used to seeing.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have three down.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Lightment there.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: You have big bodies along the front seven.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: You have
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes, even the outside linebacker is like Bradley Chup, J.M.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: with Phillips Chop Robinson, dropping into coverage.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't see that so much just because of J.L.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: and Ramsey and Kendall Fuller being the starting corners.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: And the reverb actually blitzed, blitzed, J.L.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: and Ramsey a lot.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Specifically from the sloth position, we know previously under Josh Boyer.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Kater Cova was used a lot in those blitzes.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I expect a bounce back here.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: from Caterpo coach are we still sleeping on cam Smith or is this a year of M being on the hot seat and the cam Smith experiment being over if he cannot prove himself and can't pursue.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think we're sleeping on him.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean he hasn't done anything to turn that kind of reputation
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's no secret to campsmith has been a disappointment as a second round pick entering his third season now.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: You know, always dinged up.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen reports that he doesn't take care of his body.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: And the only way he's going to change that opinion of him is to be able to go out there and play, right?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: And he needs to come in.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to have a big camp because if he
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: If he comes out and he struggles and can't, and he falls behind the Jason Marshall Juniors, you know, he've stormed up continues to play ahead of him.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: And he just gets buried on the depth chart, then he's going to end up being, you know, a casualty probably after this season.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, there is still promise that everybody has seen the skills that he had at South Carolina that made in that second round big.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of people work
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: encourage with campus when we made that pick.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: He obviously has not been able to translate it.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: That on the field and the lie that just has to do with the fact that he hasn't been able to be on the field, right?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: So he needs to be able to come into camp.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to be able to stay on the field.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: We can't open up training camp and find out on day two.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: that he pulled a handy chase in jail and model again, right?
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: If he does that, that's, he should be an automatic, right?
- 13:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're, you're bumped down to the fourth string and, you know, basically forgot.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: So he needs to be able to come in and he's able to prove that he is
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: now doing what it takes to take care of his body to stay on the field, right?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just the first step, right?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: Once he's on the field, he's going to have to go out there and make plays because he's going to have, you know, these hungry guys in training camp that are, you know, going balls out, trying to make an impression, right?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: If he thinks he can just show up and in year three is second round draft pick is still going to be enough to put him up there with the starters.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we've heard that Anthony Weaver is very much a player's coach.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: He knows how to talk to his guys.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, he's very demanded, right?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: And he knows how to tell those players what he's expecting more.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like he's got to be telling Kansman that he's expecting more out of him this year.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: And if he doesn't come out early in camp, and we don't hear his name early in camp, then, you know, it could spell some bad things for him through the rest of preseason.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if he gets
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, dropped out of the depth chart and all these special team are this year.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: Then we're, you know, quite possibly looking at the last year, campsmith here.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Special teams over a hall this season, Eric, they still have Kaker, Jason Sanders, Brandy Plender and Ryan Sto-Hop, Sto-Hop, Joe Cardona as a long snapper.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: I believe he used a long snapper for the hatred.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's no more.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Blake Ferguson amid his health issues and stuff.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: New Hunter, a lot of coverage units shakeups with a lot of releases, with the, you know, the lower parts of the corn backgrounds and specific tight ends and line backers.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that's undervalued considering Mike McDonald's history with field position?
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: it's you know it's it's a long big side I know I know I know it's it's it's one of those things where you're never going to get a massive investment you know into your special teams financially and so it you know yeah there there's a lot of turnover there and you lose Blake Ferguson you do bring in a new punner
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that there was so much change in and of itself, I tend to take as a positive in general because when you're going from where they were last year and even continuing back over the last couple of years, I think to just bring back the same cast of characters would have been a pretty big mistake and it would have been kind of a signal that there's just not a lot of optimism there.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if we could get Jason Sanders to, you know, I don't know, could we bring some hard rock turf on the road with us or something?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: That would be, that would be pretty nice.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Mike McDaniel's philosophy overall does undervalue field position in general, situationally at least.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I,
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to special teams, it's just so hard to tell, like early on until you actually get some kind of results back because it's not like, hey, we signed up.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: We signed these really great special teams players and they're making this big money.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: We invested so much into this unit.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's just kind of, you hear about guys having reputation as special teams aces.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: But until you see it translate onto the field, it's one of the hardest things to kind of evaluate in the offseason.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, with Patrick Paul getting a real look at right tackle, do we think they're serious about letting him win that job or do you think Kendall Lam?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, Kendall Lam is no longer part of the dolphin.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: So outside of Patrick Paul, it's just key on Smith as the potential backup.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think Key on Smith can actually you serve Paul with some starting experience and snaps?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, so that would be on the left side.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: Austin Jackson gonna be the right tackle.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see any scenario where Patrick Paul is not the starting left tackle.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I've been a big big key on Smith fan over the last couple of years.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: I felt like last year that maybe he would get a crack at one of those starting guard spots.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, Patrick Paul was drafted last year in round two.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they groomed him to be the replacement for Toronto Armstead in my opinion and the opinion of some other people that I obviously respect a lot.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's shown enough problems.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not like, you know, the bedroom or the chiefs.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: The chiefs drafted the kid that would be why you played a bit left tackle and he just struggled so bad that he was benching the playoffs.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: And now is the move of guard.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have that scenario here.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: in Miami, Patrick Paul played a tackle, you know, took some lumps here and there.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: But he showed enough promise that I fully expect him to be the starting left-pack when I expect him to play at a pretty good level.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't, I don't see a scenario where Keyons starts over, Patrick Paul or Austin Jackson.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the ideal role for him is going to be
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you mentioned Kendall Lam.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's going to be key on Smith's ideal role if you can regain the athleticism after his injury is that he becomes that swing tackle that's able to step in for either of them and not have quite the same drop off that we've had when we've lost tackles in the past.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Look, folks, the dolphins finally made additions on their offensive line adding guard.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: James Daniels, via free agency and drafting Jonas Avenue.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at the hour-lats depth chart, the starting left guard right now is James Daniels, and the starting right guard is Jonas Avenue.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: However,
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: Jonas Avanaya still has not signed his second round rookie contract.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think they're going to get close to signing with him now that a couple of a second round draft picks have gotten seventy five percent of fully guaranteed deals?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this is going to be something that wraps up relatively quickly.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, with Jonah, I would expect by the end of this weekend at the absolute latest
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: We hear about him signing up and getting on down to training camp there over at Hard Rock.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: As guys are starting to get signed and more of the money starts to come in, we saw Alfred Collins got almost close to fully guaranteed about eighty-eight percent.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: I would imagine that it might be a sliding scale with the guys at the top of the second round, maybe getting more of that fully guaranteed money, and then it kind of just going down as you go to the guys taking lower on in the second round.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I'd expect Jonah to get somewhere between eighty five and ninety percent of his deal guaranteed.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: And at four years, eleven million, I think that's more than worth it for the investment in the high second round pick.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I, you know, the contract stuff with with Jonah, I'm not super worried about that yet if it drags on to when the rest of the team joins them for training for, you know, as training camp opens up, then I think, you know, the alarm start to kind of go off a little bit, but
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: until we get to that point.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really not sweating.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, I know your guy was Malachi's start as the first safety on the board.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, our guy was Nicky Menhori and some breaking news on that the Seahawks and Nicky Menhori's camp has reached an agreement on a fully guaranteed contract
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: make it the first time in an NFL history, that a second round pick, pick number thirty five has secured a fully guaranteed contract.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Jonah seven eyes agent can do that, but do you pay a fully guaranteed contract to Jonah Savanaya?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't seen his play on the field?
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you let Liam McBrick play as a left-guard Eric?
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: What's your opinion on that?
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, listen, even if you don't want to pay Jonas Avenue, the fully guaranteed deal, I do think that you've probably put yourself in a pretty tough position to where I do think you would have to, right, because
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's what, you know, you can't, you can't have this narrative pop up if you're a Chris Greer in the front office that you never invest in the offensive line.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you don't, you don't ever really care to build up front.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, you make this decision to draft this guy in the high second round.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, they've been very, I mean, they've kind of, I'm not saying they haven't pushed it themselves, but
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're definitely kind of basking in the fact that hey, fan base is kind of excited that we've built this offensive line up, you know, Chris Greer saying we're more concerned about the offensive line than you are is so far away from where we are right now.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: It would just be a really, really bad look to let ultimately maybe one and a half two million dollars be what stops you from.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: signing this guy that you traded up for and traded a pretty decent amount to get into position to select him.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I have to imagine, you know, they've kind of got the dolphins, you know, over a barrel here, as far as the negotiating stream goes.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, I think the biggest thing to track for this offensive line is the health of Austin Jackson.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as he went down and I think
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: There's a part of the blame game in there for everyone else involved in the run game.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as he went down, their run game just went absolutely in the shitter.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: How big of an impact is he?
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: And could a guy like Larry Borrow or maybe Keyon Smith feel in for a couple of games and still have that same consistency as Austin Jackson brings to the dolphins?
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the same consistency now.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: Austin Jackson makes a massive difference in the run game.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: And one of the things that I remember when I was doing the weekly offensive line grades that I was doing, there was one of the weeks after Austin Jackson had gone down that there was a specific block from Aaron Brewer.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: And we were running outside zone to the right.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: And when Austin Jackson was in there, he created so much displaced
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: They had opened up a huge lane, the running backs going through completely untouched.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: But Aaron Brewer really had, you know, overtaken the defensive tackle that probably a one technique on that side, right?
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: But because of the movement of Austin Jackson got, right, we didn't talk about that at all.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: And then we fast forward to Austin Jackson out being there.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: having Kendall Lamin there and when you don't create that displacement on the outside, right, then the block by Erin Brewer is kind of compounded, right?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then everything is
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: much tighter, right?
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: The lanes not there for the running back.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're talking about Aaron Brewer a little differently, even though the blocks on those two plays are completely identical from what Aaron Brewer did.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: It just looked a lot better because of what Austin Jackson did.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: And that was just, you know, one example that I recall from doing the weekly review videos, but it shows up in other places when you look at some of the short yardage stuff,
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Austin Jackson on down blocks, cow crabs that a good video recently on it, showing Austin Jackson being able to to block down on three technique and taking two, three gaps over, right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: We can get that with the backup tackles that we had.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, and to answer your question, can we get by with Larry Borming Key on Smith?
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe, right?
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Larry Borming
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: has the size, has that short area quickness that in the run game can be a boost over what Kendall Lam was.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: The problem with very boredom is not too dissimilar to Austin Jackson, is that if you start to ask him to get into true pastets, you're asking for trouble, but that's not something that you want to see Austin Jackson doing either.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: So if Larry boredom is that swing tackle in the run game, I think that we're going to see an improvement
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: over what we have with Kendall Lam, even if there's a little bit of a step back from the past, but actually side of it.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then Keyon Smith is just that ultra-athletic tackle, at least wasn't before the injury.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like I talked about earlier, like we had to make sure that he regains that range that he had prior to the knee injury from last year.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: If he can regain that, if he can really take a solum hold as that swing tackle, then maybe that free-is-layer borham up to move
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: inside, right?
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but you know, I would expect as we head into training camp that we see Larry Borham as your swing tackle from the beginning.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, then if and only if Keon Smith shows that he's going to step on the field before Larry Borham, then maybe we see an opportunity to move Larry Borham to the inside where he is the first interior alignment off the foster bench and said that other guy that we don't like to talk about.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you might have Liam as your sixth man for the offensive line either paying left or right guard if seven a.m.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: has to play the swing tackle position of Austin Jackson goes down.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Eric probably the worst position for the dolphins is tied in and they tried to shore that up after the departure of John Smith.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: with Darren Waller.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I've got answers to see how but in he is, and can we get any glimpse of the Waller we saw with Frank Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: Boy, it's, you know, it's, that's a really interesting add to me because when it comes to a guy like Waller, I, I thought the Johnny Smith departure kind of signal that they were going to go away really from the concept of having
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not entirely, but for the most part, you got the sense that a dynamic pass catching tight end wasn't really going to be a massive part of the offense.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then they go and they add Darren Waller and it's not like the level of investment tells you that he's going to be.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this this huge piece, but I do think that there's something to the idea that well, you know, considering that it really is about two million dollars guaranteed up to five million within incentives.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: If he's sixty, seventy percent of what he was in Vegas, that's a tremendous value.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, and, you know, considering that there are questions about him being bought in.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: If it's worse case scenario, just a two million dollar kind of lottery ticket at the tight end spot.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Given what they've got right now in terms of their available cash space, I'm very comfortable with that.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think overall, their wallet probably doesn't make a massive impact on the field for this team.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: If for no other reason than I just think Mike McDaniel, schematically is really
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: going to lean more into the run game this year, and into a more physical attack.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just, I'm not sure how Darren Waller really, you know, works with that.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, close the Darren Waller signing kind of intrigues me because before the whole genre Smith,
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: the back goal.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: They had signed a federal Brown and it seemed to me that they were going to go a little bit heavier and work on those twelve personnel sets because of what Bobby Slough did in Houston.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: From twenty twenty three to twenty twenty four, Bobby Slough had an eight percent twelve personnel usage to a twenty three percent usage with a middle of the pack average EPA.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: But now with
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: bringing in Darren Waller, it seems as if they traded out speed and physicality in Johnus Smith with to again, speed and physicality rather than physicality, raw strength and just straight up mono and mono blocking.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: What does this mean for Pharaoh Brahms role?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I know you did a deep study on him, is he gonna be like the Durham's Smith type of piece or is there a bigger role for him?
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's going to depend on the progress that Julian Hill has made.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see Pharaoh Brown being able to be that move tight and I don't think I don't see him being a fluid enough athlete to be able to go in motion, return motion, find a guy on the move.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: You're the way that we saw them ask germs might to do the way that we saw them.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: asked Julian Hill to do.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that if he comes in, he shows that he is just flat out better than Julian Hill.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_02]: Then, you know, maybe he becomes that wide tight end number one.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: And we see Julian Hill more in that effort.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: But as you said, I did that study on him.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: And over two thousand twenty four,
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: you know, that where we need that wide tight end to excel is on the front side of outside zone plays.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: And in all of two thousand twenty four, Pharaoh Brown only had about ten plays doing that.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_02]: So it's very much a projection to say that he's going to step in and automatically take that job from Julio.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, I think it's kind of a toss up there, right?
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: I could see, I could absolutely see a scenario where
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: Farrow Brown is your attached wide tight end.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're using Julian Hill, you know, more to move type rule.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: But I can also see a scenario where Julian Hill just doesn't let go of that job because I do think he's more versatile than Farrow Brown.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to give him a leg up in some instances.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I can see a scenario where Julian Hill is the the wide tight end.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, and we don't see the number of snaps that are fair around that some people are expecting.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, before we continue, we will head to Greek.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Summer is here, more sun, more light, more time to do all the things that make summer so special.

- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: And we are back.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: We were on the topic of the tight ends, but this kind of leads into our discussion about Alec Ingle, the feedback position and the F position, the force player.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, I want to get back to you on this.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: We saw a lot of Alec Ingle and John New Smith being that force position player.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: I saw that there was some blame on Alec Engold after Austin Jackson went down, not necessarily getting his landmarks where he needed to be.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: The timing was a little bit off and sometimes his blocking was so poor, not to the standard quality.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: You're used to.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: Is this something where we could see decreased snaps of Alec Engold where we could see Julian Hell in Jalen Connures in Pharaoh Brown?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: actually do in different types of eleven and twenty-one personnel.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be surprised if we see Alec Engold snaps go down.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that he was dealing with some injuries last year and I never really felt like Alec Engold was a
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, just a devastating type blocker, you know, he's not the Allen record, you know, three hundred pounders.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: He's not at the level of Kyle use check.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of the next level.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's a really good fullback, but not going to be perfect.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: But his value goes beyond just what he does blocking, you know, especially going back and watching some of that jail and right film.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: You can see that the way that these fullbacks are used is that the fullback in a lot of cases is essentially making the reads for the running back and the running back just has to follow them.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I like it and goes really does a good job of doing that.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things that I find interesting right you mentioned the hour led's depth chart.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: In previous years, we have seen the dolphins pick up, you know, just some random undrafted free agent to run with the second team as a fullback.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: When we're looking at that depth chart now, there is no other fullback on the roster.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_02]: You're not going to go into training camp and have Alec Engel running
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: every single wrap, he's not gonna run with the second and third teams, right?
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm really curious, heading into training camp.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_02]: Who is that going to be?
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: And we talked about Pharaoh Brown's possibly being that wide-tailed number one.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Does that open up Julian Hill to become the full back number two?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: And start taking some of those reps.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember about mid-season last year when Julian Hill was having some of those troubles.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: The, you know, I started to ask that question is whether or not Julian Hills may be a better fit as a full back than he is as a white.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen Tanner Connor be used in that role in the past.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then you have, you know, I don't know, I see Jill and Congress in that role just because of how much
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, progress he has to make as a blocker, but Hayden Rucci is another guy that's on the roster really doesn't have a position, right?
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: So is that a guy that you, you take and you say, okay, we've got, we've got Pharaoh Brown, we have Julian Hill as Y Titans.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: We had Jalen Coniors, Tanner Conor and Darren Waller as your F Titans, right?
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: Hayden Rucci, if you want to get on the field, right?
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to convert beautiful back
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: And you're going to wrote those second and third teams and show that you can provide some additional versatility.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: So that's definitely something that they can be interesting and can't is how those reps after Alec Engold is on the field, how they're divided up in what players still in there.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: So let me ask you both this question.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: If Mike McDaniel wants to build a run first package, in twenty one and eleven person now, with tight end and full back looks, does someone like a Julian Hill, Tanner Conner and he and Ruchi become more important than Darren Waller and Farrell Brown?
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think yes, the answer is, is absolutely.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's specifically going to be Julian Hill.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that a lot of people aren't going to like hearing that, but this is a guy that they've put a lot of investment into in terms of development.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: They really believe in Julian Hill and his importance to the offense.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he's there in their idealized world.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: He is a guy that is an important piece to the offense as a really solid blocker in the wrong game.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we've seen glimpses of that.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we've also seen glimpses of really undisciplined play.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's really kind of the maddening thing with him is the penalties.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that you are
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think he is mistake free football away from being a guy that a lot of the fans actually really like.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that that's a pretty big thing that to have to get over.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that it does say something in terms of we're not really talking about
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, skill level does matter in it, but we're not seeing a guy that's getting just absolutely bold over here.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy that has some trouble with, you know, illegal shifts, holding occasionally.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: And those are things that I think are easier to clean up than if a guy just isn't very good as a blocker.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Julian Hill, in terms of his ability in what he can bring you in the wrong game,
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that there's much question there.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you can clean out the penalties, he can be a plus.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think that it's really easy.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: to forget where Julian Hill came from, right?
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: We talked through the draft process about the possibility of going out and getting a Tyler Warren to fix that wide tight end position from day one that Tyler Warren steps on the field and that's what you'd expect out of a round one tight end, right?
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: But Julian Hill went to Campbell University, arrived there as a quarterback, converted to a tight end, right?
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: So he's still fairly new to the position
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: was not drafted, right?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, came to the dolphins as an undrafted free agent.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: In his second year was, you know, handed the number one Titan job.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was probably over his head, right?
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that's not necessarily any fault of Julian Hill.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at the ideal path for an undrafted free agent to make, just make it way out of the field, not even starting, right?
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of times you're talking
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: year two or three before those players are even getting an opportunity to step on the field and make a difference.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: And in Julia Hills case, you know, in his second year after being an undrafted for the reason, we are taking him and we are asking him over and over again to execute the most difficult block for a tight end being on that front side.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: of outside zone.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: We talked a little bit earlier about Pharaoh Brown and how little he did that.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: But Julian Hill was asked that over and over again.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was far from perfect.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to sit here and tell you that Julian Hill's a top athlete kind of end.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: But I similar to Patrick Paul and the way that we talked about the flashes that he showed and how that's encouraging for the future.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's a lot of the way that I usually
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: And like you said, it's not it's not that he's going out there and he's just getting getting bullied and tossed around and just physically over match.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's stuff that's very, very minor and some of those families weren't asked early on him, but the the holding penalties that he had, you know, I think there were a lot of those are not a
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: Not an ability issue, right?
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: And like you said, it's very small stuff that if, you know, we continue to clean that up, then we could have a really good tight end or hands.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the way it's the staff sees it as well.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's got the athleticism to be able to block on the move, the way that they've asked him to do.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: He hasn't shown it yet in the NFL, but it can't believe he did
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: proved to be a pretty viable option as a receiver.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, I would like to see that develop at some point here.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that if we're talking about anybody else, and we say, I've got this undrafted free agent entering year three, and he's got to continue to get better.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody's going to have a problem with that.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: with it being Julian Hill, you know, it seems like a lot of people are stuck on that.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that sometimes you just have to just step back and remember where he came from and what we really should be expecting from him heading into years three.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: We spend a lot of this on tight ends.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is probably a pivotal position group and a group worth monitoring early on in the season to the preseason.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: Let's run this out with the wide receivers.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: Tyring Hill Jail and Water obviously, why we're single one and two.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: But who's going to be the slack guy?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to be the second, you know, second year guy in Malik, Washington?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to be Nick Westbrook?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, those are two very different skill sets.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: Those two guys bring very different things.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: I do expect them to battle out for widers, see for three wide receiver forward.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: But on the back end, you have second year guy, Todd Washington.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: a potential development to go in Eric Azucanma, who's been on IR the last two seasons cause of injury.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't you have UDFA's like big strong physical guys in Andrew Armstrong, AJ Henning, you have a five-eleven possession type of guy in Theo East Jr, along with a speed burner and Monterey Baldwin.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is a very diverse
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: wide receiver group here outside of the speedsters.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: You have some big body guys.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: You have some possession guys as well.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's the key difference in all of those guys and what do you think is going to actually make the roster as wide receiver five and six coach.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: To your point regarding the slot, I think that's going to kind of rotate depending on the situation.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that we're going to see somebody who was just consistently in that slot position.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think that at times, we're going to see that the fast, twenty-one person out where Devon HN is out there.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think that in more neutral and running situations that we're going to see some Nick Westbrook, a keen A maybe a little heavier out there, and then in your more traditional
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: passing game, you know, maybe it's Mormon League Washington.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he mentioned, as you comment, and he's kind of getting that, that campsmith treatment that we talked about earlier that he's an afterthought, this point.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: really expected to be an important part of the offense to a complete afterthought.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: And if you ask most people to list those top five, six, five receivers, he's not even in that conversation.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: So that's no, it's gotta make some noise in camp, you know, looking at the rest of the receivers.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_02]: The one that I like the most is probably Theo Weas and Big part of that is, you know, he's got good speed,
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: He's got good size, right?
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: He can do a little bit of everything.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: He can play on the perimeter, do some of the stuff that that Waddle and Tyreak can.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: But he can also have the size to move into that slot and do the stuff that we've talked about with Westbrook, a key name, terms of being able to seal an edge on the crack toss, stuff like that.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that he's really going to be in that mix and the rest of the guys.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that really comes down to special teams.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_02]: you know, whether we're talking about, you know, the AJ Hennings, or the Monterey Baldwin, the Eskries, this maturing, Taj Washington probably needs to be involved there.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's going to be more than just the returner, right?
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, being a returner is not going to be enough on its own to earn a roster spot.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to have to be somebody that can play in the coverage, you know, your kick coverage, your pun coverage.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody that can do all of that stuff.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: And when you're looking at those, you're the smaller body wide receivers, then it's going to come down to who is willing to
- 49:02[SPEAKER_02]: to do the journey work.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: You've gone to the days for those guys that they can just get out there and run fifty routes as a wide receiver and expect that to be enough to make the roster.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: Those small receivers on the end of the roster, they're going to have to battle it out to find out who's going to provide the most value to that special teams unit and like you talked about earlier, Eric.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to invest a ton of money into those.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, special teams units, right?
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to come down to those those cheaper guys that can, you know, make some noise with the specials.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_00]: Do any of those guys bring something, either River Crickraft, Robbie Chosen, OBJ and Braxton Barrios offered an S season there?
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: The short answer is, yeah, the short answer is no, right?
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you think of the skill sets that each of those guys brought that those guys themselves had a diversity in skill set, what I think you do get in terms of difference is how much of those things that you're potentially getting from from certain players?
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: Because I do think, I mean, personally,
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: when you, when you look at a Nick Westbrook, a key name for example.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think he gives you everything that you really ideally kind of wanted in a chase clay pool, but actually gives you those things.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then as far as as far as guys like Braxton, Barrios goes, I honestly, again, I think I look at Malik Washington and I kind of see a guy that can be that idealized version of Braxton Barrios with maybe a little bit more, you know, juice as just a regular wide receiver in terms of
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: you know, some of his wiggle after the catch.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and I, I mean, if I'm looking at this wide receiver room, just holistically, I am inclined to say that Nick Westbrookikina is your wide receiver three right now.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: Over a guy like Malik Washington, but I kind of think that it's more of a three A three B kind of situation.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, as as coacher kind of alluded to the other guy that I really like in the room.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: is Andrew Armstrong.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's kind of a similar case to Theo Wees, maybe, you know, just a little bit more size.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: Not as dynamic with the ball in his hands, but, you know, you'd be hard-pressed to find a guy that's more reliable in terms of his hands than Armstrong.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that he gives you a really solid presence in the in the run game as well at that wide receiver position.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that they've got a really, really deep position this year.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just going to sneak this in here at the last second for this answer.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: Looking at this, just looking at the offensive depth chart in general.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to get excited for preseason football.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: what you're going to have as far as your backup.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, it's going to be Jalen Wright.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be Yale Gordon.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be Jalen Coniors and Malik Washington and Andrew Armstrong.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, maybe I'm just a sicko, but that I find that I find that to be a lot of fun.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll end it off with this for
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: for the show.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: Who's your UDFA to watch throughout turning camp in pre-season to not just make the roster, but to actually contribute by October time?
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: I've got you guys on doubt.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was ready to answer the make the roster, but the contribute part
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so I got one for you, and it's not going to be contribute maybe in the way that you, you know, we're framing the question, but I'm going to go with you, Gene, a saute at lineback.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that the top four linebackers are pretty much set in Brooks Dodson, Gay, and Britt.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: But as we talked about with those bottom of the roster wide receivers, you know, the if they keep a fifth linebacker, then that's going to be a primary special team.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be somebody that's, you know, on every special team's year, your kick return, your kick off, your, you know, punt, punt return, everything.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's a role that Eugene Asante can feel really well.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that could be the role that allows him to push Chan and Tindall off the roster.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, maybe it's not a a starter in offensive or defensive
- 54:24[SPEAKER_02]: perspective, but I think that Eugene Asante is a player to keep an eye on as somebody who could make his way onto the roster as a core special team's guy and be playing on, you know, almost every special team's the team has.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, so if we're talking, if we're talking UDFA's here as far as guys that can really make a difference for the dolphins, I'm gonna go with
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: My guy BJ Adams in the corner back room because I mean you look at just what's in front of him and it of all the UDFA's revolve the positions on the team That's the clearest path to be able to get some actual real playing time Now again, there's there's a lot of guys to go through what that spot, but there's really at least on paper not
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: a ton of established guys and we've already talked about some of the concerns that the guy like Kim Smith and you know his injuries and questions about you know how committed he is to keeping himself healthy
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that just, when I'm answering a question like this, I'm really just looking for opportunity and I think that guy like Adams has the opportunity.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think he has the talent, especially in what he's going to be asked to do this year to contribute early in the season if he does get that opportunity.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, folks, thank you so much for sticking with us over here at Scouting in the Finstick with us here on the three-ershbrookary podcast.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're gonna go as part of the five-origin sports network.

- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: I hope to see you guys there sometime soon as well.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's gonna be fun to see real.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: real life actual football as we get closer to preseason and the regular season as always y'all Fins up baby.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not Fins up baby.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: They changed it.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: Go Fins.
