- 0:29She's been there for me. And fun fact, it was in a very
- 0:32passionate coaching call with Danielle where she shared with
- 0:35me that I needed to start a podcast.
- 0:38And she was like, you need to start this podcast this week.
- 0:42And I remember sitting on my bed at my cottage in Muskoka and I
- 0:45was taking the call and I honestly was like, sorry, I
- 0:48think there's bad reception here.
- 0:50Come again. And the rest is history.
- 0:52So Danielle, thank you for that nudge.
- 0:55I've loved this podcasting journey and I don't know that I

- 2:27Out podcast. It is so wonderful to have you
- 2:30here. Thank you for joining.
- 2:32Thank you. I'm so honored to be here.
- 2:33Thanks so much for having me. It feels like a long time
- 2:37coming, so we have known each other for a number of years now.
- 2:40You are my mastermind, leader, business coach, biggest
- 2:43cheerleader. The inspiration for starting
- 2:47this podcast, I was sitting, I remember so vividly sitting on
- 2:51my bed at my cottage in Ontario. We had a strategy call booked
- 2:56and we're chatting and you were like, you need to start a
- 2:58podcast. And I was like, what do you
- 3:01mean? And so thank you for that and
- 3:04for and for so much else. So that's how we know each
- 3:07other, of course. Well, I'm so grateful that that
- 3:10you started it because I think so many people are blessed by
- 3:15it. And you know, there's people in
- 3:17our mastermind that love your podcast, so it's just really
- 3:20cool. Like it's been really cool to
- 3:23see you thrive in this, in this space, and you're just getting
- 3:26started, So excited for you. Oh.
- 3:28My gosh, thank you. So you are the founder of the
- 3:32Business States Collective, which is everybody needs to
- 3:34follow on Instagram, follow you at Danny Living Life as well
- 3:38because you just post such inspirational content for
- 3:40anybody who might be even considering the world of
- 3:43entrepreneurship. Before we even get into that, I
- 3:45have so many questions for you about those who might be
- 3:47contemplating that journey and that taking that leap.
- 3:50But tell me, how did you get into?
- 3:52I know a bit about your story, but you are an entrepreneur
- 3:55pretty well through and through, which is unusual for a lot of
- 3:59people. So tell me a bit more about your
- 4:01story and how you got to where you are today.
- 4:03Yeah, absolutely. So I definitely always kind of
- 4:08thought I would do something in the business world and
- 4:12entrepreneurship friends of my family.
- 4:14And so it was kind of something that I always thought about, but
- 4:18I didn't exactly know what that would look like or what I would
- 4:22do. I had lots of ideas.
- 4:24So, you know, at one point I wanted to own my own spa.
- 4:27And you know, at another point I'm like, oh, maybe I'll do
- 4:29this, maybe I'll do this. And I think, I think people that
- 4:32are entrepreneurial can maybe relate to that where they have
- 4:34so many different ideas of what they could or should or want to
- 4:38do. And so I, when I was still in
- 4:41university is sort of my first business like official business
- 4:46and it was in like the social media marketing space.
- 4:49I had a business partner. And so that was kind of my first
- 4:52taste of a, like actual entrepreneurship where we would
- 4:56pitch clients we would like. It was such a weird concept to
- 5:02me that we would send an invoice and get paid.
- 5:04Like it was just like mind blowing.
- 5:06You know, I think like the, I think when you first get into
- 5:09entrepreneurship and you get that first client or you have
- 5:13someone pay you, you're like, Oh my goodness.
- 5:15And of course, you know, it's always a really low amount at
- 5:18the beginning because you're undercharging yourself and
- 5:20you're like it is so much money, Oh my goodness, this is crazy.
- 5:23So that was like my first taste of entrepreneurship and that was
- 5:27a really great learning experience.
- 5:29I learned a lot. It was also very challenging.
- 5:33There's just a lot of challenges that came with having a a
- 5:35business partner. I actually didn't know her too
- 5:37well and so there was the challenges there.
- 5:39But I'm super grateful for that experience because I think it
- 5:43taught me a lot and gave me a lot of life lessons very early
- 5:47on in my career, in my in the, in the entrepreneurial space.
- 5:52And so obviously through university graduated, I did get
- 5:57a business degree and I'm. I'm grateful for that
- 6:00experience. But also there's so much about
- 6:03about actually owning your own business that you just can't
- 6:06learn in school. And so from there, I tested out
- 6:11a lot of different businesses. I was working with a health and
- 6:14Wellness company. I did.
- 6:17I actually worked for my mom's business.
- 6:18She was in the electronic space of all places and she was doing
- 6:22consulting for and sales for high end electronics company.
- 6:26So I worked for her and helped her build her brand and also
- 6:31realized that the common thread throughout all of the different
- 6:35things that I did because in university was on the Business
- 6:37Association, hosting events. And the common thread through
- 6:41everything was like, I love people.
- 6:43I love community, I love working with others and like figuring
- 6:48out how to make things fun and exciting.
- 6:50And I'm like, I don't know what that's going to look like as far
- 6:53as my own business, but I started networking a lot.
- 6:58And So what I realized was that I was looking for a place where
- 7:03I could go and connect with people and potentially
- 7:07collaborate with people that were like me, that were also
- 7:10building businesses that were also entrepreneurial.
- 7:12But I wasn't really finding that space.
- 7:15I would go to these networking events and I was usually one of
- 7:17the only women in the room and also usually one of the youngest
- 7:20in the room. And I felt like everyone was
- 7:22like, oh, I've been in business for like 15 years or 20 years.
- 7:25And I have a staff of, you know, like however many people like
- 7:30Okay. But that doesn't really resonate
- 7:31with me. Like I and I don't even know if
- 7:33I even want that in my future. And so I was like, there has to
- 7:37be other people like me who also are looking for that connection
- 7:42community. And so I started hosting these
- 7:44little popup events and I was connecting with people on
- 7:50Instagram being like hey, you're super inspiring, like I'd love
- 7:54to take you for coffee. And so I was just sort of
- 8:00building my community one person at a time, 1 little popup event
- 8:04at the time. And when I got started, it
- 8:07really started super small and then it sort of grew and
- 8:09expanded. And Long story short, we started
- 8:14expanding and hosting these bigger events because I had a
- 8:19little bit of a background in social media that was like a
- 8:22main place where I would share about the events and get people
- 8:26involved. And so that that just grew and
- 8:28grew and grew. And then from there, back in
- 8:312018, we ended up expanding to five different chapters across
- 8:35North America within, I think it was within two years and that
- 8:41was really exciting. But also like wow, talk about
- 8:45Burnout. So that was all while I was like
- 8:51okay, it was just me at the time.
- 8:52And then during those times where we were expanding, I hired
- 8:56two people at the same time to support me there and that was
- 9:01super game changing to not do it all on my own.
- 9:03So that was great. And then COVID hit, so then we
- 9:08had to pivot and so we actually ended up pivoting a lot of our
- 9:14business online which at the time was super challenging but
- 9:18also was a blessing in disguise. I started my podcast during that
- 9:22year and from there it's really been like building Community
- 9:27both online and then now that events are back, bringing the in
- 9:31person aspect of of community back in as well and also of
- 9:37course launching things like our signature course, Action Takers
- 9:41Club, the Mastermind. We have another new program that
- 9:45we just launched. And so yeah, it's just been such
- 9:48a journey and I I try to sum it up, but it always takes me way
- 9:52too long to explain everything. No, I love it.
- 9:54I think it's such a cool story and it's and it's unique.
- 9:57I love every entrepreneurial story because it's that they're
- 9:59all just so unique. And then on the personal front?
- 10:03You are. I'm a mom of 1, girl who's
- 10:09almost two, and I have another baby boy on the way.
- 10:13So. And we're about a month out.
- 10:16But I mean, who knows, right? So.
- 10:19Yes, that is exciting. And that has been such a huge
- 10:22journey as well. And I think one of the biggest
- 10:26blessings of what happened during the pandemic was that it
- 10:31forced me to reevaluate the business and think about how can
- 10:35I actually create this in a way that it's more sustainable for
- 10:40the life that I want being a mom as well.
- 10:44And so it's honestly, I'm so, so grateful because at the time,
- 10:49and I'm sure a lot of people can maybe relate to this during that
- 10:53season was like it was one of the hardest times because it
- 10:58felt like I was needing to start from scratch.
- 11:01And I had been doing my business at that point for about 5 years.
- 11:05And so I felt really established and you know we had, we had
- 11:09really built up a foundation and it felt like all of that was
- 11:14kind of being taken away. And I was like I don't even know
- 11:18who I am anymore without like hosting at these in person
- 11:22events and what am I even good at.
- 11:25And so it was really this like soul searching time too.
- 11:30I think I'm really figuring out what are my strengths, How can I
- 11:35serve, how can I continue to serve my community in like a
- 11:39powerful way but online. And so that was really an
- 11:44interesting transition to do that and so really pouring into
- 11:49and I'm so grateful at that moment when we because because
- 11:52we had the mastermind. I think you're maybe a part of
- 11:54the mastermind, like while the pandemic was happening too I.
- 11:58Kept crying on it. We all were totally what's going
- 12:01on? And, like, it was so emotional.
- 12:02Yeah, totally. And and I think too like that
- 12:05was such a cool way to still be able to like support the
- 12:10community even though so many things were unknown and it was
- 12:14like having that like incubator of okay, let's like figure this
- 12:17out together and let's like support each other.
- 12:21And that was really truly the vision of what I wanted for the
- 12:23mastermind. And what it has evolved into is
- 12:26like, you know, obviously I'm the leader of the mastermind,
- 12:29but it's like the the women that are in it, including yourself
- 12:33are just so incredible and like giving and supportive of each
- 12:38other. So which is really creates this
- 12:39like safe place where everyone's supporting one another and
- 12:45giving each other feedback ideas.
- 12:48And so that was kind of built off of my realization of okay.
- 12:57I want to create community that truly feels like community.
- 13:02And not just because I think there's such a big difference
- 13:05between having a following and having a community.
- 13:09My friend Tiffany from gals, that branch, I want to give her
- 13:13a shout out because she talks about this a lot.
- 13:15She talks about community and she says you're following is not
- 13:17your community. Your community is when you bring
- 13:20people together and there's that like mutual support of one
- 13:25another. And so I think that through
- 13:28those challenges, it's also made, I feel like now our in
- 13:32person events are different to where I'm like how can we like
- 13:36really create that safe space for people to come and feel like
- 13:41they can be vulnerable, feel like they can have the support
- 13:45that they're looking for. And so yeah, that's kind of just
- 13:48the heart behind what what we do and we want to create for
- 13:52people. So you do that in such an
- 13:54amazing way. You hosted, I think it was.
- 13:56Did you say it was your largest and longest?
- 13:59In person event two weeks ago 200 people.
- 14:02Yeah, it was. Well it was it was the first
- 14:05time we'd ever done a full day event like in the in the
- 14:09Vancouver area. So it was it was pretty special
- 14:13I it had been something I'd wanted to do for a very long
- 14:15time. So finally happened and I was so
- 14:17excited about it. So it.
- 14:18Was incredible. It was literally in a helicopter
- 14:20hanger. A gorgeous, gorgeous and that
- 14:22sounds weird, but it a gorgeous venue.
- 14:24Yeah, everyone kept talking about.
- 14:26Imagine a wedding here. Yes, they do weddings.
- 14:29And they're amazing. So yeah.
- 14:30Called Sky Hanger in Meadows. Meadows.
- 14:34Yeah, And we're like, where were we where?
- 14:37Did I drive to on my Google Maps?
- 14:39Exactly, and a testament to the beautiful community that you've
- 14:42created. You asked if some of us
- 14:44Mastermind members, sorry, getting over a toddler cold
- 14:47here. Some of us mastermind members
- 14:50would hop up on stage and and just be on a panel.
- 14:52And you were joking. You're like I gave you guys
- 14:54don't notice but it. I I didn't even have an ounce.
- 14:58Like normally I still get butterflies like I do like you
- 15:00know spoken for a living and that sort of thing.
- 15:02But I'd love to chat like yourself and but there was 0
- 15:07butterflies because you created the space.
- 15:09Like you've created a space that is so safe in a community that
- 15:13is so safe and so supportive. Literally have There's a woman
- 15:16who I had met on a virtual networking call through your
- 15:18community. Lisa.
- 15:19I'll give you a shout out. She's incredible.
- 15:22She's literally sitting in the audience as I'm talking.
- 15:25Nodding her head like clapping along, smiling.
- 15:29We met in person, the first, like the first for the first
- 15:31time that day and we had been chatting through Instagram
- 15:34through your community. So just a man who goes to you.
- 15:37It's just it's amazing. I wanna touch on something you
- 15:41were just you were speaking about which was kind of that
- 15:43soul searching element and where you're kind of just kind of
- 15:46contemplating like who am I, what is this business and?
- 15:51Something that I think would relate to anybody who's
- 15:53interested in entrepreneurship or the corporate world, how have
- 15:56you? How did you reconcile marrying
- 15:58what you are truly passionate and enjoy versus what you think
- 16:03the world needs? And the example that I would
- 16:04come up with, like even on the corporate side, would be the
- 16:07person who's like, well, I should probably work for a
- 16:09nonprofit because I want to do good in the world, but.
- 16:13You know, the the job that they're going for or the job
- 16:15that they're in, like just it. It's not actually what they want
- 16:18to be doing, but they're like hope I should be doing this.
- 16:20Do you know what I mean? Like, how do you get all those
- 16:22two things so good, So, so good? Yes.
- 16:25Oh man. And I mean, that has been such a
- 16:27journey for me for sure. I think at the beginning of my
- 16:30business I was really looking to just please other people, which
- 16:36is not a bad thing necessarily. It's like, okay, What does my
- 16:39community want? What does my community need?
- 16:42But, but the the challenge with that is that there were so many
- 16:46different people that kind of all wanted different things.
- 16:50And so I felt like I was being like, pulled in all of these
- 16:52different directions of like, what if you did this type of
- 16:55workshop or what if you did that kind of event?
- 16:57Or what if you what if you started this or what if you did
- 17:00that? And it was like all these ideas
- 17:01which were amazing. But at the end of the day, I was
- 17:07feeling overwhelmed because there were so many things.
- 17:10And I think we live in a world where we have so many options
- 17:13and so many opportunities, which is incredible and, like,
- 17:18amazing, but also it can feel overwhelming because like, but
- 17:23what do I choose? What is my thing?
- 17:26And honestly, I really think that sometimes you have to try
- 17:31things to know if it's like the right fit for you, right.
- 17:36And so you know, there was a lot of things that I tried that I
- 17:39tested, that I did and realizing okay and even figuring out like
- 17:44who is my ideal person, community member, mastermind
- 17:50member, client. And I I believe that like we
- 17:57were given strengths and and and gifts and abilities that are
- 18:03really specific to us. And then if we walk through that
- 18:08and we really like develop that, that we will be able to bless
- 18:13other people no matter what we're doing.
- 18:16And so in saying that, sometimes you do have to really reflect
- 18:22and be like okay, what are my passions?
- 18:25What are things that I want to do?
- 18:27And not to say that because I also believe we need to curate
- 18:32our content, our offers to what people need and want.
- 18:39But there's going to be that tie of what we're super passionate
- 18:43about, what we're really talented in with what people
- 18:47want and need and and where our place is.
- 18:49So again, like you said, whether we're in a job and we're like
- 18:52serving a company in that way or whether we're doing that as an
- 18:56entrepreneur, so and and and it takes time sometimes to figure
- 19:02that out. And I think I've gone through
- 19:05seasons where it's been like, man, I should know by now who my
- 19:10ideal person is or like what my niche is.
- 19:13And I think for the longest time I was like, I don't have a
- 19:17niche, I don't have a niche. And I always get so frustrated
- 19:19with myself. And then I realized my niche is
- 19:23community and collaboration and like bringing people together.
- 19:28And that's my niche. Even though I didn't see it as
- 19:31one. I was like, that is what I love
- 19:33to do. And that's like my passion.
- 19:35And that's what I feel like I've been uniquely gifted to be able
- 19:40to do. And that is what serves our
- 19:43community within our masterminds, within our events,
- 19:46within like, you know, curating a space where people feel safe.
- 19:52And so, and I feel like I've only gotten really that haha,
- 19:57within the past couple of years where I've gotten super clear on
- 20:01that and been confident in that because I think I tested and I
- 20:05tried a lot of things like maybe I'm supposed to be the person
- 20:09who's really into like systems and time management and that
- 20:13sort of thing. Because I I love that too.
- 20:16But I realized as I started going down that road, I'm like,
- 20:20but I'm not actually that passionate about talking like I
- 20:24can talk about that and I can share about that.
- 20:27But that's not actually my, like true passion of what I really
- 20:30want to share about. And so it it it's testing and
- 20:35trying. And that might not be the answer
- 20:37that people want, but it it's taken me.
- 20:42I mean I've been, I've been, I've been running this business
- 20:45for over 8 years and I just feel in the last couple years, like I
- 20:51said that I've gotten a lot of clarity on that.
- 20:53And so it has been a journey, for sure.
- 20:56Well, you can. Like you can tell you can see
- 20:58the evolution and you and the way that you talk and it just
- 21:02seems like, you know, quote, UN quote content or your podcast
- 21:04episodes. It just seems so natural to you
- 21:06because you're talking about topics that you are clearly so
- 21:10incredibly passionate about and it just comes through and you
- 21:14are yourself. And I was actually just thinking
- 21:16about, you know what, I'm giving feedback to clients when we're
- 21:19doing some interview prep or anything like that show.
- 21:21I honest, I truly believe, as cliche as it sounds, I believe
- 21:24that everybody should show up. Almost as I can exaggerated of
- 21:27them self version of them self in it, even in an interview
- 21:30because you want them to be hiring for you and not this.
- 21:34Like unless you know times are really trying and you're like I
- 21:37just need a job, whatever. There could be circumstances but
- 21:41if you really want to find that right cultural fit you show up
- 21:43as you like. When I interview like when I was
- 21:45in the corporate world, I'm making jokes and I'm being
- 21:48casual like equally casual and dialed and buttoned down.
- 21:51I'm showing all sides of myself and I think that that's.
- 21:55That's just how you should show up, because then whoever you
- 21:59know comes into your world then is coming in for for you.
- 22:01And that's what I see in you for sure, is that you talk about the
- 22:04topics that you're really passionate about.
- 22:06And if people are also equally passionate about, that's who you
- 22:08want in your in your sphere, in your world.
- 22:10So I think that's great advice. Totally.
- 22:12And you know, it makes a difference too because I think
- 22:15that whether you're someone who wants to pursue entrepreneurship
- 22:20or a job, I think researching, researching the company or
- 22:26researching the industry that you want to be a part of.
- 22:28And then when you are looking to like be a part of community,
- 22:34like knowing what community is right for you is really
- 22:38important. And so you know when people say
- 22:41for example they come to our events or they they apply for
- 22:45our mastermind or or they're they're joining one of our
- 22:49programs, it's always So I'm always so excited to have them
- 22:55in our community when they have first like listened to the
- 22:58podcast for example, or you know that they've been kind of a part
- 23:02of our or been following us on social media.
- 23:04So they already know kind of a little bit about our culture of
- 23:09what we believe in, what we stand for.
- 23:11Because if someone's coming in where they don't really know
- 23:15much about our community and they're just looking to come in
- 23:21and like, I'm going to get as much as I can out of this and
- 23:23then kind of peace out, like that's not really what we're
- 23:26about. We're about like longterm
- 23:28community relationships. And like, you know, there's been
- 23:31people in our mastermind. I mean, you've been, you've been
- 23:34in our mastermind, like, yeah, since like you said maybe 2019
- 23:38or something like that. And there's people that have
- 23:40been in it since we launched in like 2018.
- 23:42And it's just like, it's just so cool to see those relationships
- 23:46develop and flourish. And so I think culturally
- 23:51knowing that that you are creating something that people
- 23:56will be either attracted to or repelled by is totally fine.
- 24:01And that's actually good. And that's why for us it's
- 24:06important to showcase. And I think I'm getting more and
- 24:09more comfortable and confident with showcasing that culture and
- 24:14and being willing to be like there's going to be some people
- 24:18who really don't like me or our community.
- 24:22And that's okay. Like I'm okay with that now
- 24:25because I know that the right people like I I always know when
- 24:29I get on a call with someone they're applying for the
- 24:32mastermind or whatever. I know within the first couple
- 24:34of minutes, like this person's a really good fit.
- 24:37Like they would fit in so well with our community.
- 24:40And I can also tell if it's not a good fit pretty quickly just
- 24:44based on and it's nothing wrong with them, it's just a cultural
- 24:49fit. And so I think that like again,
- 24:52whether you're going for a jobs like look for that culture fit
- 24:55because you know positions can change and things can change.
- 25:00And you know if you're a business owner you can shift and
- 25:03pivot and change so many different times.
- 25:05Like we've had people in the mastermind where they're like,
- 25:07hey, I'm doing this like totally new thing.
- 25:10It's like, great. That's awesome.
- 25:23Okay, we have to. Like, you should do that and
- 25:14like encouraging that. But it's their their personality
- 25:18and their values stay consistent, right?
- 25:21So yeah. I'd be remiss if we didn't get
- 25:25into the topic of those who are listening, who are in the ideas
- 25:30phase of their entrepreneurial journey.
- 25:32They are dreaming big. I've got my dream big mug here
- 25:36from the business base. They're dreaming big.
- 25:39They have. Just that simmering fire in
- 25:43their belly, those embers where they're like, oh, I'm just
- 25:46getting that itch, the entrepreneurial itch.
- 25:48But I'll say the big butt They are waiting for their kids to be
- 25:54a certain age, for them to make it to a certain level in their
- 25:56corporate job. Like I'm saying, the stuff that
- 25:58I've totally felt in my past as well.
- 26:01I want to make a certain amount of income.
- 26:03I'm waiting for this. It's not the right time.
- 26:06Who am I to start this business? I haven't gone to school for
- 26:08this. All those things.
- 26:11Where, where would you start? Where would you advise a person
- 26:14to even start when they're battling those limiting beliefs
- 26:17and just have that idea that's percolating?
- 26:19Yeah. Oh, such a good question.
- 26:21Well, first and foremost, I think, like, the dreaming stage
- 26:25of of figuring out what you want to do for your business is
- 26:28really incredible and amazing. And so like, have fun with it
- 26:33and like maybe set dates with yourself of like, I'm going to
- 26:38go to a coffee shop, I'm going to bring a notebook, I'm going
- 26:40to just like journal my thoughts or like my ideas or what I want
- 26:44to do. I think the challenge comes in
- 26:49when people start sharing those ideas with people who they hope
- 26:54will be supportive, but often or not, unfortunately.
- 26:58So it's like people that are not in the entrepreneurial space, so
- 27:03they maybe don't understand the possibility or the options or
- 27:10that sort of thing. So like for example, if you're
- 27:11like, Oh my goodness, I have this like amazing idea for a
- 27:15business or, you know, I'm dreaming about creating whatever
- 27:18it is. And then, you know, you go to
- 27:21your sister or your cousin or your best friend and you're
- 27:24like, hey, I have this idea. And if they either one haven't
- 27:30created anything similar to that or they don't understand the
- 27:35entrepreneurial space, they might be giving you the yeah.
- 27:39But like, how are you going to, how would you even make money
- 27:42from that? Like what?
- 27:43You know. And then like all of a sudden
- 27:45you're like, yeah, you're right. Like, well, yeah, you're right.
- 27:48Like that doesn't. No, that's actually not a good
- 27:51idea. And you start to second guess
- 27:52yourself. And I think that's where also
- 27:54the excuses start to come in of like, well, it's just not the
- 27:57right time. Like it's just, you know,
- 27:59whatever. And so I think first and
- 28:02foremost, find communities and platforms.
- 28:06Yeah, whether it be like podcasts that actually are are
- 28:09encouraging for that and communities where people are
- 28:15dreaming really big and doing big things and put yourself in
- 28:18those situations because then you'll be like wow, there's
- 28:21other people who have done this as well.
- 28:23And that was one of the biggest feedback that we got from our
- 28:26last conference or in person event.
- 28:28People were in the room and I got a lot of messages from
- 28:32people who said it was so cool to see the different types of
- 28:36businesses and what was possible.
- 28:40And you know, the people on our our panels, the people from our
- 28:43mastermind who shared as well as like all the other speakers,
- 28:47they're sharing very vulnerably about the struggles, about, you
- 28:51know, the fact that it hasn't been easy and so know that it's
- 28:54not going to be easy, it's going to be challenging.
- 28:58However, it is possible. And if you have that spark, if
- 29:02you have that like butterflies in your stomach, like, you
- 29:06already know that like eventually you're going to have
- 29:09to do this. Like you're going to have to
- 29:10pursue this or else it's going to like eat you alive.
- 29:13So it's like, start with the little tiny baby steps of like,
- 29:18what's that next thing that I could do to, like, push this
- 29:22idea forward? Because often we think of, like,
- 29:24the big scary action steps that we have to take.
- 29:29It's like, why don't we just break it down into super, super
- 29:31small, tangible steps and just like continue one after another
- 29:35to move ourselves forward on like a daily basis.
- 29:39And then yeah, you need, you need to surround yourself with
- 29:44community. It's not just like a nice to
- 29:45have, it's it's vital because your mind is going to get in the
- 29:49way and it's going to start to tell you really horrible things.
- 29:53You're not good enough, You're not talented enough, You don't
- 29:57know what you're doing. You don't have any experience in
- 29:59this industry. There's way too many people
- 30:02already doing what you want to do, so it's not worth it.
- 30:06Like, these are things I hear all the time or people have an
- 30:10idea and then they're like, I'm just going to wait until I hear
- 30:13this all the time from entrepreneurs quickly.
- 30:15I want to do this thing. I'm like, great, awesome, like,
- 30:18let's do it. Like, I'm just going to wait
- 30:20until next year when I have, like, more followers on
- 30:24Instagram. I'm like.
- 30:25What, No. What?
- 30:27Like what are you talking about? And like to me it's so clear.
- 30:30I was like, but no, if you take this action and you do this
- 30:33thing, that's actually what's going to build your business and
- 30:37expand all of those other things.
- 30:40Like the vanity metric things is actually when you start to do
- 30:44the things that you want to pursue.
- 30:47And so I think it's just realizing that you're never
- 30:50going to feel ready. You're never going to be 100% it
- 30:54situations are never going to be 100% perfect either.
- 30:58Like, we pivoted the entire business when I found out I was
- 31:02pregnant with my first daughter, right.
- 31:04And so it and and you hear stories from people all the time
- 31:09where they started their businesses.
- 31:11Actually Elaine at the conference, she started her
- 31:14business three days after one of her.
- 31:17I think it was her second baby or maybe even third baby was
- 31:20born. And it's like she's like it was,
- 31:24she's like, I don't recommend that, however, like she's like,
- 31:28I just, I had to do it. And so I think whatever excuse
- 31:33that you're telling yourself, there's a, there is someone who
- 31:38has done that in spite of their circumstances and that's like a
- 31:42part of your story. I always like to share that with
- 31:45people like that can be a part of your story.
- 31:48Some, like all the odds were against you, but you were able
- 31:51to to make it happen so. Makes a better story too.
- 31:54Exactly. Totally.
- 31:56Better, a better a better arc in the in the storytelling for
- 31:59sure. How do you find, how does a
- 32:02person find the right community? Like you're so passionate about
- 32:04it and I feel so lucky that I just stumbled into one of your
- 32:07events one time finding you on Instagram and being like what?
- 32:10This is so cool. There's like beautiful pink
- 32:12flowers and. Sparkling wine and like this,
- 32:17these amazing women on this panel.
- 32:18Like, I was like, where am I? This is like Disneyland for the
- 32:22the closet entrepreneur. I was like a closet
- 32:24entrepreneur. I was, yes.
- 32:25Worker world and how does one go about you know finding that
- 32:30community and and please tell tell people about your business
- 32:33too because I think that this is it's I'm not just saying this
- 32:35because you're on and I'm like plug your business like.
- 32:37Yeah. I want people to know about
- 32:39Business Babes Collective and that you're there for those who
- 32:41are percolating with those, those ideas.
- 32:44OK, well, thank you so much for sharing.
- 32:46Yeah. I think that sometimes I I love,
- 32:50I think I can't remember who said this.
- 32:52There's someone on my podcast, I think that said this.
- 32:54But sometimes you're going to have to like, kiss a lot of
- 32:57frogs to, like, find your prints.
- 32:59I can't remember who said that to me, but I was like, Oh my
- 33:01God, I. Said that, Did you say that?
- 33:03Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 33:05OK, so happy case. That's amazing.
- 33:09I love that you said that. So I was totally meant to be.
- 33:12I'm like, why did that come to my head right now?
- 33:14Said. That on the panel, okay.
- 33:17So I love that. And it is true, though, when
- 33:21you're looking for something like community, right?
- 33:24I've heard a lot of people who are like, yeah, like I and.
- 33:27And people that are nervous to come to our events because
- 33:30they've had bad experiences where they maybe walked into a
- 33:33networking event and it didn't feel welcoming and no one wanted
- 33:37to say hi to them and they tried to network and people weren't
- 33:40interested in getting to know them.
- 33:42And you know, like that can be really discouraging and it can
- 33:46be really, especially if you're someone who is maybe an
- 33:50introvert or you're shy or, you know, I mean, like I host
- 33:55community. I literally do community for my
- 33:57business. And I get really nervous when I
- 33:59go to other people's events because I don't know what I'm
- 34:01walking into. I have no clue, right.
- 34:03It could be super amazing and fun and and and welcoming or it
- 34:08could not be and and you don't know really until you walk into
- 34:11the room. So it's like, you know what?
- 34:13It just takes that those like seconds of courage to just do
- 34:18it. And even if it is not the
- 34:21experience that you wanted to have, you're going to learn
- 34:24something from it or you're going to meet that one person
- 34:28who maybe like lock eyes from like across the room.
- 34:31You're like that's a safe person.
- 34:33I'm going to go talk to them and then and then you talk to them
- 34:37and and and you build a relationship and sometimes those
- 34:40communities start just one person at a time and maybe if
- 34:45you don't have anything within your that that is resonating
- 34:49with you, then maybe that's like you building that for yourself
- 34:52and that's beautiful as well. So you know of course, yes, of
- 34:57course you're always welcome to join our community and and see
- 35:00what we're all about. But at the same time, find one
- 35:03that resonates with you, that you feel safe and you feel
- 35:07supported and you feel championed in.
- 35:10And then just like go all in. I think for me, for so long, I
- 35:16would kind of like tiptoe my way into things and be in
- 35:19communities but not be like fully in.
- 35:22I'm kind of on the outskirts. I'm sort of watching from the
- 35:24sidelines and now I'm like, you know what?
- 35:27Life is too short for that. Let's just like dive right in.
- 35:29Let's be vulnerable. Like I'm in a program right now.
- 35:33I'm like, oh, my goodness. I mean, my entrepreneurial
- 35:36journey just investing in different things.
- 35:37And I'm in a program and I just, I was like, you know what, I'm
- 35:41going to like go all and I'm going to be super vulnerable.
- 35:43And I'm just going to share, like I'm going to share my
- 35:45struggles. I'm going to share like
- 35:47whatever. And it's been really cool
- 35:50because there is a event that that was hosted in San Diego
- 35:55that I went to with this same group of people.
- 35:58And I had people coming up to me and saying like, thank you so
- 36:01much for, for being so vulnerable in the calls, like,
- 36:04like. And they felt like they knew me.
- 36:06Like, they felt like they were already connected with me.
- 36:08And it's like a big kind of group program.
- 36:10But I'm like, I'm always putting up my hand.
- 36:12I'm always like sharing and just like letting the people coach me
- 36:17and just like almost crying, like it's just like, but that's
- 36:21what like, builds those bridges and those connections.
- 36:24So vulnerability, I think, is another tip to like once you
- 36:28find the right community, be willing to be vulnerable because
- 36:32that's what's really going to actually allow you to build
- 36:34really strong relationships. It's so it's so, so true and
- 36:39it's and it's not. It's quality over quantity.
- 36:41Like if just pick even just pick one group or I really liked what
- 36:45you said about the being in an event and you can find one
- 36:48person that you chat with and that could be the game changer.
- 36:52And I was thinking about the word community.
- 36:55And how it it feels like this thing where you have to wear a
- 36:57badge, like because I'm in Danielle Weeps Business Babes
- 37:01Collective community, I have this badge that I wear with this
- 37:04like, name tag and this like secret card.
- 37:07No, it's not that. I, yeah, have some really close
- 37:10friends within the community, but I wouldn't say that I have
- 37:12this 2500 person. Group that I'm beholden to.
- 37:18There is access out there, but I guess what I'm trying to say is
- 37:21that like it's community is curating those like really key
- 37:25people who can be in your corner, who you can go to, who
- 37:28you can share your struggles with, who you can be vulnerable
- 37:31with, who share back with you. That's community.
- 37:34Like I think we build it up as a big thing, like you're joining a
- 37:36church or you're joining a a group or whatever.
- 37:39Like it's. Yes, you're joining this big
- 37:42thing that's bigger than you, but that you make a small,
- 37:44curated selection within it, right.
- 37:46And sometimes the more intimate connections and community within
- 37:50the larger community is where the magic happens.
- 37:53Like, I love when I hear that people met at our events or met
- 37:57through our mastermind and like they're still in connection or
- 38:00they're, you know, going for lunch with each other.
- 38:02And I'm like, that is so beautiful.
- 38:04Like, that's exactly what I wanted from this is like to be
- 38:08able to create a space where people could meet and connect
- 38:11with each other and really like resonate with one another and
- 38:14then take the relationship from there.
- 38:16So yeah, I think to like walking into every situation, whether it
- 38:21be virtually or whether it be in person and saying okay, what's
- 38:26just one take away that I can get from this or what is one
- 38:29person that I can that I resonate with, that I can
- 38:33continue to build a relationship with.
- 38:35And I think too, I mean, I know we could probably talk forever
- 38:40about all of these things, but like recognizing that community
- 38:46takes time and it's not going to happen overnight.
- 38:51And I think that's one of the things that I really feel really
- 38:56passionate about right now. And sharing with people is like,
- 39:00everyone wants overnight success.
- 39:02Everyone wants like a microwave version of what they're trying
- 39:07to build. And they're like, oh, I just,
- 39:10you know, I went to this event and you know, I just, I didn't,
- 39:13I didn't really need anyone. Or like, I don't, I don't know,
- 39:16I don't really connect with anyone.
- 39:17It's like it actually takes work.
- 39:19Like it actually is work to build community and it sometimes
- 39:23will take months if not years to build that strong community
- 39:27around you. And community will shift and
- 39:30change. And so I think it's just it's
- 39:34being patient, but it's also being intentional and and the
- 39:36and the other thing I really want to pinpoint is how can you
- 39:40give to the community, not just what can you take?
- 39:43Because the more you can give, I promise you, the more you will
- 39:47take. Often we think about it in an
- 39:49opposite way of like what can I get, What can I get, What can I
- 39:51get. But like if you switch your
- 39:54mindset, you're like, what can I give, How can I be vulnerable?
- 39:58How can I show up? In a really powerful way, where
- 40:02it's actually serving other people and that's actually when
- 40:05you're going to get the most benefit from a community is when
- 40:09you do that rather than just being the person who's always
- 40:12taking. Yes, yes, it's so true.
- 40:16Oh my goodness. And we could absolutely talk
- 40:18about this forever. Oh my gosh, I have so many more
- 40:22questions. But we we're hopping on our
- 40:25mastermind calls soon, so we got to I was kidding.
- 40:28I mean, I'm not kidding. We actually are, but we are
- 40:30sure. Okay, I have to ask.
- 40:33You know what are something that you are still working to figure
- 40:36out? Oh man, so many things.
- 40:40So, so many things. I think right now in this season
- 40:46that I'm in, I'm really figuring out motherhood.
- 40:51I just, yeah, I just feel like I have exponential things to learn
- 40:58about motherhood. Like I and I like, have this
- 41:00desire to be such a good mom and and also be like a strong
- 41:05business woman. And it's figuring that out and
- 41:12being present I think is the biggest thing that I've, I've
- 41:16really been trying to learn over these past couple of years since
- 41:19having my first is being present in each moment.
- 41:23And like for example being on a podcast with you.
- 41:26Like I want to be like fully present with you right now.
- 41:28And when I'm with my clients going to be fully present.
- 41:31And then when I'm with my daughter, I want to be fully
- 41:33present with her and not be like thinking about work or thinking
- 41:37about all the things I should be doing.
- 41:39And then vice versa, when I'm working, I want to be all in on
- 41:42that and not feeling guilty for for not being, you know, with my
- 41:46daughter. So it's that I'm still figuring
- 41:49out. I think it's, I think it's a
- 41:50challenge, but I'm grateful. And I also I feel passionate
- 41:55about, you know, my kids growing up and knowing that they can
- 42:00pursue what they want to do and also have a family if they want
- 42:03to. And I know that's what your
- 42:04podcast is all about. So I love that.
- 42:07So that's, I think, my motivation as well.
- 42:10You're such a wonderful example for your kids.
- 42:13They're so lucky to have you. You're just you're such a
- 42:15wonderful human. Thank you so much for joining
- 42:18today. And where can everybody find
- 42:20you? I will put everything in the
- 42:21chairs, of course, but I think there's gonna be a lot of
- 42:24Googling that's happening after this, so make it easy for them.
- 42:26Yeah, okay. So best probably platform is
- 42:30just our website which is business babes collective.com.

- 43:11back and done bits and pieces. But I would say from as a
- 43:14testimonial, I would say it's a really cool place to start.
- 43:17It is so accessible from a financial perspective and from a
- 43:20time perspective where it's online, it's easy.
- 43:23You can sign up for the program, you can buy this course and it's
- 43:26basically everything you would need to just take that idea.
- 43:29Like if once you go to that coffee shop and you make your
- 43:31notes and you're percolating on that idea, go into and and buy
- 43:35Danny's Course Action Takers Club and it will help you to
- 43:39take those dreams and really start to solidify them even
- 43:42more. Like she really she starts off
- 43:44with like who do you want to work with, set your vision and
- 43:46all that beautiful stuff that's just so much fun to do.
- 43:49It's the best part of building a business.
- 43:51So I will. I'm plugging that for you
- 43:53because I think it could actually be you.
