- Ted Turner: Good evening, everyone. Welcome to Dogs Down South. I'm your host, Ted Turner. I'm here with Rich Man and Man. Rich, it's a good day to be a dog, especially after a Georgia win. Do you agree, sir? Richman: Dude, that was beautiful. Great day. Ted Turner: I mean, it doesn't matter who it is. It's it's just a win, right? To start the season off. I mean, we're gonna dive into some play by play stuff, but you know, you've waited all summer long, you've heard camp talks and G Day talks and you know, it's just nice to go out whether it's kinda on air or against a Tennessee state team and just see the dogs execute correct. Richman: Well it's it's great to see him not play down to the competition, which is something we've seen over the years. And the other thing is Kirby usually sits on the lead, but our our freshman athletes they kept putting points up, so it it was a very exciting day. Ted Turner: Yeah, man. It on all cylinders. On all cylinders. and I'm I'm not gonna repeat it much because any listeners, anybody that's will catch this later on. We understand we played Tennessee State, right? There's no secret to this, right? But I would venture to tell you that ninety percent of the SEC this past week played what was called a cushy soft opener. because the SEC is figuring it out that the playoff committee doesn't really care. I mean, nobody noticed that Notre Dame, Seemingly didn't have an easy day with Wisconsin yesterday, right? And nobody noticed that some of these teams, I mean, I thought Alabama got off to I mean, the score didn't really show it, but I thought Alabama had to get some things kind of in tune. Defense allowed some busts. Keelan Russell, a freshman quarterback, but that's that's across all platforms. So just so I don't have to repeat myself throughout the entire show tonight. We understand we played Tennessee State, but think there's some really good things to talk about. I think there's some things that obviously Kirby's gonna find to take away and go, hey, we we definitely have things to work on heading into a very exciting game against Western Kentucky. maybe not so exciting because it's Western Kentucky, but it'll be the first time in a while that we're gonna change our uniform combos up. It's been talked about a lot. We got the big white outcoming twelve forty five in Sanford Stadium this Saturday. So that'll be exciting but really quick, sixty three to three. Sixty three to three. Now, Rich man, if you'd a if I'd have told you we were gonna score sixty three points, would Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: you have taken the over or the under for that game? Richman: I'd taken the under. Ted Turner: We all know because, you know, Kirby's not a run the score up kind of guy, but I do think that when you look at top to bottom, like we just executed a lot. I mean, it shows the depth. A lot was talked about about, you know, 70 to 80 percent of this team. We're like about sixty-eight, seventy percent of this team was freshmen and sophomores. Well, we saw a lot of those freshmen and sophomores on Saturday. A lot of them. a couple of things that that we kind of pulled away from. I mean, obviously the questions were is like You know, how would this team look? Would the offense be explosive? Would Gunner look comfortable? Would the defense still be nasty? Would they still be, you know, very hungry? and perhaps most importantly, we would see the depth Kirby Smart has been talking about all offseason. And I will a hundred percent certainty say this that we saw all of those things. I thought Gunner, not only from a standpoint of just game control. game managing which he showed he can do last year. But I think he showed some improvement throwing motion. Saw a little more zip on the ball. I saw him make some some take some chances throwing to a couple of receivers that maybe last year he would have pulled it down and ran. Might have checked it down. but I thought it also was a pretty cool troll from Mike Bobo that the first pass of the game was a screen pass. I think that was planned I think it was kind of like a hey, look, you're going to see some stuff today. But let me just open it up with a screen pass. So I I won't let any of you guys down from trolling you from what we're really gonna do for most of the season. But it was, Richman: That was classic. Ted Turner: man. So let's start with the obvious. Georgia didn't just win, right? So dominated. two hundred seventy two yards rushing. Wow. Nate Frazier, I mean he did what I mean, if anything I would tell you and I don't know about you, Rich Man, but I thought the the offensive line help the running game really dominate. I mean, geez, man, the first the first play that Nate broke, we saw exactly what Kirby has and I don't know if he screamed it, but he's kind of let us know Zachai Hilton is a true gym at the freshman on that right guard spot and why he is starting so early on because he opened up a hole that I mean, me, you, Delta's jet that flew this Plan Georgia and Arkansas in a few weeks could have gone through. Do you agree? Richman: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, the line the line was very dominant. Ted Turner: I agree. And, you know, across across the board, I would say between Chauncey, between Nate, I thought I thought that man, I thought late later on, I thought the run game was strong as well. It I thought it was very comical. I don't know if you heard the quote about Jay Lamar, the the Calco County running back that is a little bit barely in the depth chart as a freshman, but you know, they mentioned they were like, you know, what how'd you feel about Jay Lamar and his fumbling issues from, you know, the spring and these and he was like, I don't I didn't report anything about fumbles. I don't know where you got that from. Like, can you can you can you relay your source? And the guy was like, he he was just so trying to get his question out. And I think for Kirby, like it gets it gets annoying because, you know, part of it, part of the media started to dial up this whole frenzy of like Kirby kind of started the whole wide receiver talk as well. And Kirby has been more he's been more protective of the wide receiver room than I think any other coach. That's mentioned it. I mean, SEC media days, the first question about the wide receiver room, he was like, you know, I really appreciate you questioning this again because it's just another reason why our wide receivers will have some bullets bore material to go out there and perform. And I thought that was another bright spot. You know, running back was a bright spot. I thought we did our thing, but I did think that, you know, I I heard at one time Kirby between tight ends and wide receivers got the ball to fifteen different fifteen different receivers. Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: I think that was pretty impressive, man. It was it was it was very impressive to see him spread the ball around and what he did in that avenue to create those two hundred and seventy two yards rushing, then three hundred and eighty eight passing yards. Now granted, Gunner was fifteen or sixteen, fifteen or sixteen, I don't know exactly how many yards he had, but that was spread amongst him. Puglisi, you had Ryan Montgomery, you had Hezekiah Millender, all of them kind of spread those yardages around. Thirty one first downs, sixty offensive plays, and I'm sure there could have been way more. Tennessee State managed just 10 rushing yards and 99 passing yards. So kept them from triple digits in both of those categories. and the number that jumps out is George didn't allow Tennessee State to record a first down until well into the second quarter. I mean, it it's not like, I mean, it's not it's not a high school team out there. I mean, they're they're college athletes that have a weight training program. And I know the coach that was coming in for Tennessee State. did come in late last year. And so he is in a little bit of a a build, rebuild per se. but like those are those are extremely, extremely impressive things. and you know, as far as starters, I mean, I think we pulled most of the starters by I think I heard that some of the top offensive line guys, Bobo, Green, some of those guys only played like eleven or twelve plates total. Got in there and in eleven or twelve plays, I actually caught some of film guys, Austin's what's what's Austin's last name? Brooks Austin, sorry. Richman: Austin Brooks. Ted Turner: Yeah, Brooks Austin, I think it or is it flipped? I don't know. But saw some of his thing and he said in eleven plays that they saw, man, they definitely made some waves in those ten or eleven plays between Ernest Green and his hands. apparently Ernest Green thumped a couple people with his hands that they recognized who he was and had a pancake and then and then Zakai's block and then Drew Bobo made some really, really good plays. He had the he had the club on the right hand, the the the they call it the wasp's nest on his right hand. he clubbed some people. But let's just jump out right here. Let's let's talk about a few things that, you know, individual things that we saw. We just talked about Gunner, but let's dive in a little bit with Gunner. Fifteen to sixteen and two hundred and two yards, three touchdowns. Rich man, what when you watched Gunner, did you did you see any nuances that looked a little bit Different of Gunner this time around and that little glimpse you saw of him last year? Richman: He just looked more confident and he looked really you know, he didn't run the ball. I don't I don't think he ran the ball once. and he was he was very confident and he was making the throws. You know, the one thing that I I didn't see from Gunner that I want to see is is the the the breakaway long overpass. but he did have two deep crossovers and he nailed them. So I I don't think gunners have ever been the problem. It's always been the you know can we get somebody to break free and do do we have, you know, somebody that can catch a ball? And I don't think we have to worry about them catching the ball now. I think now we're you know the the the next thing we want to look at is when we get into better competition, you know, how much how how well are they able to you know get some some some br to break break open and get some space, you know. Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah, no, I I agree. I agree. I think too, you know, when you when you look at the complexity of the I thought that was some really brilliant designs in those first couple of plays. Like something I mean, I don't and I'm guilty of it too. I don't know why some people are like they look at Bobo and they're like, I don't think it's ever been about his offense. I mean, there was a couple of well drawn up plays where you saw play action and you saw a dig on the left from Kenyon and they overflowed that that zone with Craig Dandris, which their the nicknames already come out Craig Dangerous. so Craig Dandris Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: is now being called Craig Dangerous. and so he flooded that side and then we had we had a go on the route with London and then we had what was called a stick by Jaden Riddell. And dude I mean, it was just so well designed. I mean, at the at in the middle of the day, I think I think he could have gone to any of them. as a matter of fact, he went he ended up going to Canyon. Canyon made a really great catch and tight coverage, which was really cool to see. But if we rewound the tape, Craig Dandridge was probably house if we would have thrown it to him, which is fine. But when you look at that, you just want the right read, right? So we we we ended up getting twenty four or whatever and and that's considered somewhere in where we want to be explosive, twenty to twenty five range. But, you know, I know those things will come in progression, but it's almost like when you look at some of these check downs, he was probably like, Holy cow, man, like everything's open, right? it's just a well designed play. Richman: Well, I I also enjoyed d I enjoyed seeing Tallinn Taylor get the ball. He he's Ted Turner: Yes. Richman: I think he's gonna be as advertised. he was very impressive. Ted Turner: I agree. Talent Taylor was, I felt like they intentionally got him the ball a couple of times in those first two series. different ways. you saw him get it on a little bit of an end around, like a run type format. he caught a couple of the that they they kind of showed where I think he's gonna be able and and they they kind of ducked on him a couple of times. He he I think he was open a couple of times down the middle of that seam route, which we all remember from the Alabama game last year that he dropped. But he was open again a couple of times. And believe me, I think they want to throw that route to him again and just give him that confidence that he can catch that that route. but Talon Taylor looked really good. Richman: We are all there. Ted Turner: Yeah, Talon looked really good. I mean, I could go the list is is long. I mean, Elias Williams, I mean, dude, he's gonna be a problem. I mean, he blocks well. He likes blocking, he has a great catch radius. He for six seven, he is very elusive. He's very Richman: Yeah, and he's he's an acrobat Ted Turner: He's very run oriented. Richman: to go along with all of that. Ted Turner: We just need to get his landing right. I mean, to protect the goods, right? Richman: Yeah. Doesn't need to land on his head. He needs to roll on over land on the backs of his shoulder. Get that roll down. He needs to go over Ted Turner: Yeah. I mean I thought yeah, I mean Richman: to he needs to go over the gym dogs and get a workout in. Ted Turner: You ain't lying, man. Protect. I mean, that I mean, you gotta you have a long career ahead of you, and you definitely need to protect that dome. And so we need to probably go get him a few gym dog lessons, I would agree. Maybe take him to the pool, get him a little diving lesson where it'll it'll sting a little bit less. But I think there was some undercover type great work that not won't be talked about, but I think I think London Humphreys, man. You talk about you talk about a wide receiver core who can block. Man, so many times did you look at London and when you're talking about, I heard it described best, you know, you look at the offensive line and you look at big guys putting hats on big guys. Well, it's a it's a great thing for your tight ends and your wide receivers to be able to block because you're talking about you're talking about a little bit smaller guys putting bodies on small guys, right? So a little bit bigger guys blocking small guys. And if you can do that. You're very successful. And that showed a lot on Saturday because we had some really great wide receiver blocking. London Humphreys made a couple of really he was not flashy on tape from a catch perspective, but he made some really good blocks that turned a lot of plays in the right direction. It was cool to see Dwight Phillips Jr., you know, last year, he took some hits this time around that last year he would have folded. Do you agree? I mean, this year I felt like Richman: Okay. Ted Turner: when he got hit a couple of times, it was like, last year that would have looked really bad. This year. If you put a little weight on, hit the weight room a little bit. He looked a little bit less fragile. Richman: It works a little stouter. Ted Turner: Yeah, I agree. we talked about Nate Frazier. Was I mean I he stood out now? I I don't want to hold this one back, but when we go into tight ends, like I mean, I think it would be I think I think we saw a lot of the tight ends. I think we saw a little bit of Lawson. I think we saw Elias, obviously. We saw Ethan Barboard catch a few across the middle, which was good. He dropped one. but that's you know, that's gonna happen. But buddy, Jaden Riddell, he's gonna be different this year, man. And and I don't wanna do the comparisons yet. But that Richman: I I tell you what, he he's gonna be problem for defenses. Ted Turner: And we said this, didn't we, Rich? I mean, we've said it all summer. Everybody's been like the number one thing we we named was it was like, can can the tight ends take the pressure off of the wide receiver room? And I'll be danged if Bobo didn't kind of just present that storyline on Saturday. Every one Richman: Yep. Yep. Ted Turner: of them touched it. I mean, I think even Colton Heinrich even caught a couple of maybe one or two. I think every tight end in the room caught a pass on Saturday. but Jaden Riddell, man, like what let's talk really quick about what makes him special. We also saw Caden Prothrow scored. that was kind of hidden in Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: the mix, but he had a score and just just ridiculous athleticism in this tight end room. Like it's just like when I'm sti when I'm sitting on defense, I'm like, I gotta sit there and go, which tight end is in the room? I mean, I'm sorry, which tight end is in the play? Because for Elias, I mean, I'm gonna have to win I'm gonna have to not only win vertically, but he's He also runs like a wide receiver. And then with Jaden Riddell, Richman: Yeah. Runs like I need it. Ted Turner: like he's going to catch it. And he has such an incredible first step, man. He is going somewhere quickly and he is not scared to run you over. He's not going down. So you have the you have the dual functionality of when he catches it, he's not expecting that to be the end. Right. And then with Lawson, Lawson's just a touchdown machine, man. He really knows where to find space. he's he's a great blocking tight end. I think Ethan kind of him and Him and Ethan are a little bit the same. And then with Pro Throw, you get that kind of slotslash tight end. You get like a quicker version of Elias. It, it's, it's crazy dangerous, man. And I and I think it's going to be hard to guard this year. What I mean, let me just ask you this. Like, it for Georgia fans, we always like to have like a this is my favorite scenario. Like, out of those five, man, who do you like to see on the field? And what gets you most pumped up? I mean, I kind of have a personal little. thing that I I mean, I like to see one a one particular, but I curious who who's the favorite tight end out of your group. Richman: Man, it's gonna be Riddell 'cause he he's he's like lightning when he gets the ball in his hands. But then the other thing, Elias, I mean, when you get down to the end zone with his height, y you wanna see him in the ball game. You you wanna you wanna cash in on that height. So I mean it I don't know, man. It it's there's so many it's it's it's how do you how do you have that much talent in one room is just crazy. Ted Turner: I mean, I just can't believe that. I mean, I knew it. I was like, we're gonna drag this whole wide receiver room debate out all summer long. And Kirby's gonna be like, you know what? I actually really like that you guys are sitting here eating this to death because he's like, I'm I'm holding a tight end room full of people who are just hybrids. And they block like crazy. Like all 20 of them block. I mean, we didn't even mention Sokovi White Helton. I thought Landon Raldon. caught a couple passes that could have been iffy for to the house. Now Sokovi is a different story too, not to, not to pull too far off the tight ends, but obviously Sokovi's not going to be your Zach Branch. He he was in a couple of those formations. He did catch a couple of those passes. And he's not going to beat he's not going to, you know, beat three defenders from Tennessee to the edge and and make you and and make you pay. But but it what you notice about Sokovi is he's built a little bit more like a like a halfback. has good catch radius still. Dude, he made three or four people miss in a different way. and so you, you know, as as we always say, between Jaden Reddell and the, you know, the the Brock Bowers kind of comparisons and can, you know, everybody's going, can Sakovy White help and be a Zach branch? I think you just kind of need to look and go, they're going to present problems, but a little bit different of a way. Zacco, you know, Zacoby White Hilton's going to run some people over. Richman: What's it what's it gonna look like when they go into thirteen personnel and put Roddell at fullback? I mean Ted Turner: It it's I don't even think half of the installs in there, man. Like Richman: dude, I don't think we've seen anything. I I all the all the Bobo detractors this this is gonna be the year where Bobo lets them eat crow, I think, because Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. Richman: now he's got so much talent he's gonna have the opportunity to be as creative as he wants to be, I think. Ted Turner: I totally agree. I I I mean, and I think he might have he probably was holding his playbook out going, I d I didn't even run half this today, you know? Richman: Yeah, and you know, I mean, obviously the playbook is contingent on the personnel. If you don't have the personnel to run certain formations and and and plays, you you you can only do what you can only do, right? Ted Turner: Right. Totally agree. Totally agree. And and and you know, I would be remiss to say that like between the wide receivers and the tight ends, what could also be missed is the fact that we we totally were not reliant on we we really didn't do anything to pull the pull the defense in. Like I thought the running game was doing enough to where we could really run some stretch the field play action, but I think we focused more on just route complexity. How many people can we get to touch the ball? Can we can we put people in situations where, you know, I think we did that in G Day. I think we did that in the spring where it was like, let's just throw, throw, throw. Let's throw. Let's throw until we just can't throw anymore. Maybe we hit some, maybe we get them, but let's get them in the motion of going the ball's in the air. Let's get it up there. Let's what what are we doing? I think it was more of a architecturalist to strategic bet on Saturday to go, hey, we have some we have twenty five, thirty scripted pass plays. We want to execute them well because they may be our kind of bread and butter. And then, you know, we also got Western Kentucky, you know, in the background to be able to continue to, you know, not just treat it like a scrimmage, but I mean to to just go out and perform well. But, you know, Western Kentucky was a game that we had to sew up because of Oklahoma and when Oklahoma came into the SEC and that that technically was an out of conference away home and away. And so the schedule we're getting this year is not due to the fact that we ran for any from anybody, which, you know, Brahm from Louisville, he's got his own problems because, you know, they lost a but, you know, Brahm said that it was supposed he was supposed to say that both sides canceled, but apparently it didn't. And everybody's saying, you know, Western Kentucky and but you You gotta realize we we left Oklahoma in that slot, had to pull them out because they joined the SEC. And so this is the year where we catch that schedule. But I do think when you look at it, you could see something even completely different on tape on Saturday. Do you do you disagree? I mean, we could have a completely different game plan on Saturday. And for Richman: Hm. Ted Turner: me, Richman: Man wouldn't wouldn't that be something? Ted Turner: I mean, I think it can happen. I really think it can. I mean, I think we can come out and do some things that are just completely against whatever we did there. And we're gonna give Arkansas a tough look. Like we really are. And Arkansas struggled Saturday. They they really probably were one of the bigger SEC teams that struggled on Saturday in so many areas. Offensively one and defensively really didn't come around until until the second half. And so I think we can give them I think we can give them a really, really hard tape. Don't you agree? Richman: Yeah, yeah. Ted Turner: defense. Let's not forget about the defense. We talked a little bit about, you know, how much we allowed, things of that nature. What I what I saw that was that caught me right offhand, and I'll let you kind of chime in as well, is I was really impressed with the defensive line push. We were able to get to the quarterback and cause a lot of disruption with four, sometimes five. We would sneak in Sneak in a couple of times a fifth, but it but not much. but I think that was why it was so productive for us to stuff the run, was because those linebackers were those linebackers were clean. They were clean all day long. And if you give those linebackers clean, they don't miss tackles. Richman: Right. Ted Turner: I hope that I'm not gonna go back in weeks and and have and this is replayed and it's like, okay, you said they don't miss tackles. So for the most part, I thought we tackled really well. What was Just an overlay of what you saw from the defense. Like what do you what do you think stood out to you the most? Richman: I I was most impressed with the with the rush. I mean they that dude was on his back all day long trying to throw the ball. I'm surprised that he completed as many passes as he did. Ted Turner: Yeah. It was and listen, the quarterback from Tennessee State, let's let's make no mistake. I mean, they talked about it a lot. He's no you know, he was brought in, had a really good game against Jackson State the week before. really elusive, the guy that can run the football. I mean, we kind of made it look null and void. I mean, it's like it it was it was sheer shutdown. Really was. Richman: And and really when you play a team like this, the thing that's so obvious is just the team speed. It Ted Turner: Yes. Richman: just you know, it just shuts them down. These guys can play in the in their own league and be competitive one week and then they come here and this the speed just shuts them down. And Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: I'd say speed alone because you know, you see those guys some a lot of times they make good tackles. They you know they They do some good things, they make some good pass defenses here and there, but overall it's that speed that that really messes them up. Ted Turner: Yeah, no, I agree. I and I feel like it was a hot day. Obviously there was talked about that it was you know, triple digits had reached a hundred degrees plus maybe on the field on Saturday. Richman: I didn't see any I I didn't see any cramping, did you? Ted Turner: I didn't either. I mean, now granted, now you know why those scrimmages one of those games one of those scrimmage games started at three and one of those scrimmage games started right around one o'clock. Pretty pretty genius of Kirby if if I'm Richman: Right. Yeah. I'll tell you something else I didn't see all weekend and I I didn't get to watch as much football 'cause we were moving this weekend, but I didn't see one targeting call and thank Ted Turner: Mm. Richman: you NCAA. Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: you know, maybe they're gonna back off this. 'cause I saw a lot of incidental hits with the face mask this week weekend that didn't get called and I was like sitting there thinking, waiting for the flag to come out. and didn't see Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. Richman: it, so I hope I hope that we're moving in that direction and they got off this targeting pedestal. Ted Turner: It's funny you should say that. You know, I saw no targeting, but I saw more quarterback face mask stiff arms in Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: in a few games than I've saw in the last two seasons combined. I mean Ridell. So yeah, Bray Riddell is a quarterback. Richman: Well that they called Rodell they call Rodell that and and it and it looked like in the it looked like in the replay to me that he just he didn't grab his face mask, he just barely touched him. Ted Turner: Yeah, I think it was I think it was a miss pick and they just kinda went with it 'cause it's like we don't want to slow this game down anymore. It's kinda like we're we're drilling it in now. But but that Richman: Well, which Yeah, yeah. Right. Ted Turner: one, yeah, that one's questionable and but now the one last night where the quarterback from Louisville did it to Ole Miss. Now that one was pretty rough. He drug his whole head to the ground and I guess he figured since he had his head his hand on the face mask, he might as well go and kind of prove a point to him. And so, but it's just funny 'cause you said that and I'm like No, we didn't see any targeting, man, but I I I saw some of the craziest stiff arms in in less than a four-hour time spat, or excuse me, twenty-four-hour time spat that I've seen in in two years combined. a lot of faces, a lot of names to kind of stand out. I thought Gabe Harris was everywhere. man, look, he looks strong. He looks like a guy that is going to help Elijah Griffith cause a lot of problems up front. I think they got great push. I think they confused a lot of things. I thought I saw a little bit more pep. pepping his step from from Quintavious Johnson. I thought he looked really good. He was kind of everywhere. Not a not a number you called a lot for for tackles and but but he caused a lot of the the havoc to make to maybe let some of the other cleanness happen for people to get to it. A name that I saw everywhere was Josh Horton made a few plays on that defensive line. I thought there was a lot of names on that defensive line that stood out as well as Jordan Hall got a few reps in. Nothing, I mean, a lot of these guys were not in long at all. but it was good to see. I mean, obviously you saw Raylan, you saw Justin, saw Chris Cole, not for long. you you really saw more of that second tier, AJ Cruell, you saw Elijah Littlejohn a little bit back there, Nick Abrams. you saw a little bit of him. You didn't see much of Chase Linton. I think Chase was held out. He had a little bit of a of a nag of something c going on from the last scrimmage. He's fine from what I say, but it was just precaution, no reason to get him out here because there was a lot of lot there was a lot being based around Chase Linton because he was actually causing a lot of quarterback hurries and he was getting to the quarterback pretty easy on an offensive line that was doing a pretty good job. So he was he was a guy that was gonna be hard to keep off the field. And so when people didn't see him, they were like, you know, where what's going on with this? I thought Zaydan Walker had a good showing. once again, though, nothing but What I saw from Zaydon is is I I I thought he covered covered well than he did last year. Last year he was brought on a third down and he had he was brought in in role type procedures. This this year I feel like they used him in a true linebacker situation. He was covering, he was in coverage. they backed him out a few times, of course they let him loose a few times. He's a he's a stud, man. He's a guy that could be a name, like he could be the name that you're talking about post. you know, Justin Williams and Chris Cole. He's a guy that's gonna be, I think, a leader in the middle of that defense as early as next year. So it was good to see the linebackers, I mean the secondary. You didn't see much of the secondary because the ball didn't get off too many times, but and and when it did, it was not in the area code. So it was hard to get a good judgment. I know KJ had a couple of really good tackles. A J just I excuse me, K J can just find the ball, man. He just does a really good job of finding the ball. Tyreek Green, you mentioned Tyreek. Richman: Yeah, G C Ty, he man, he put a lick on it. was it a quarterback or was it a running back? I can't remember. It was a running back. He Ted Turner: That was the running back, yeah. That was the running back. Him and K him and Kyron were hit, man. Kyron Jones, they just they don't care, dude. They just don't care, man. It's like, it's a hit squad back there. And I love to see that 'cause K J's never been estranged to contact, but K J this is the first year as well as I I feel like K J's put a little weight on muscle, obviously. I didn't see anything per se unhealthy athletic looking, but I feel like he's a little bigger. Still got his, you know, his head in the middle of it. Didn't really get a chance to really dial in on a lot. Saw Braylon Conley a little bit. That was cool to see. little Jamari Riddle saw Zion Branch a lot. He had a couple of good hits in that third quarter. but as far as that first string, I would tell you too that the thing that stood out the most to me, you know, as we're kind of wrapping everything together is is I didn't think special teams, and it was just one blunder, but didn't His special teams what would you call it? Finesse as Kirby would like, right? He liked special teams to be very dialed in, very locked in. First time in a long time that I've seen the snap bobbled, from the placicker, which might I add, they had the they had was it yeah, Richman: That was ugly. Ted Turner: they I think it was Drew that was in there, Richman: Who was the who was the w number ninety, I think, was the holder? He got an ear full when he came off. Kirby was all in his ear. Ted Turner: Yes. Yes. I think I think you they were just trying to they he they were just like well w I don't understand why you threw it, right? I just don't understand why that ball ever leaves your hand. Like he's I think the words were like, Get down, just get down, we're good. Richman: Yeah. Yeah because y yeah, get down because y that could be six. Going the wrong way. Ted Turner: Yes. And so I think I think typically that's usually Gunner, but obviously I mean, I totally agree with Kirby. It's like there's no reason to have gunner gunner out there holding Gunner doesn't need to be on that field, you know? And so I get it. But I just feel like I mean I do feel like we had a couple of good returns. Like I I I they're kicking game, but we Richman: Yeah, we did. Ted Turner: didn't see it much. We saw we saw a lot of punts, but as far as kickoffs we only saw the first one and it was returned for about forty yards. But I thought overall, like unfortunately if I had to say low hanging fruit, it would probably be special teams which is not very poised, very just well put together as Kirby likes it. He likes it pretty tight. And so, you know, if I had to pick on anything, that would be it. but like Richman: Well that and we had a lot of penalties. I mean and of course coming out of camp, Ted Turner: Yeah, I agree. I I think penalties Richman: you know, coming out of camp, all these kids are got their ears laid back 'cause they're trying to to make a position, you know. And I have a feeling after this week, you know, they're probably gonna get a little focus, discipline focus. Ted Turner: I agree. I agree. Well, let's let's let's let you know let's make sure we leave the listeners with just a few things like that we can kind of staple in. Like as we wrap it up, like what did we really like what do we see that we can put into like hardcore evidence that we now know about this team after one game? I think number one, Rich, I think the defense is fast. I think they're incredibly fast. I think we talked about it, they're incredibly athletic. we need to, you know, we need to see it against SEC competition, but holding a team to 109 yards and ten of it being rushing is extremely impressive. the second one I would say is you had this in there. Penalties are something to watch. I think I think we saw that we are a little less disciplined than we think we should have been coming out of camp. And, you know, but here's the thing too, you know, you you did play probably a good chunk of seventy to eighty percent of your of your rostered players that don't typically get snaps. That's something to look at and but but I do think from the starters as well, there were a couple of blunders where you kind of scratch your head and go, What were we thinking there, right? Richman: I think that I think a big takeaway is the fact that we played so many of the younger pla so many freshmen that got to play, but the quality, like a lot of times when those guys hit the field, that's when you see all kinds of mistakes and crazy stuff happens and they can't sustain a drive. That wasn't the case at all. I these guys the these young guys got on the field and they executed and to a high level. And I was that's what I was impressed with because down the road That you know, we don't know how many people are gonna get hurt in the season. But if we got a kid Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Richman: that that at the beginning of the season got out there and made some plays and didn't didn't muck it all up, Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: hey, that that that might save us down the road. Ted Turner: Totally agree. It you it's like we shared notes, man, right? I agree. It's so we put it in here. We we we're deep. I think we're very deep. I think we talked about that during the summer, but now we got a chance to actually see that. We got we got a chance to see offensive linemen play in two, three positions. I mean, that was incredible to see. I mean, I didn't see it from the first group, but I did see you know, from that second, third group, I saw Akini Aboko. I mean, it was good to see him play the talented freshman. his first run from scrimmage as a collegiate athlete. He r he got a pancake. I thought that was cool to see, man. he's got really him and Ernest Green are very similar statures. They're very similar players. they play very the same. I'm I'm you know, hands. I'm just hearing their hands when they get on you, it's just incredibly it's a weight on you. And the same thing with Oboko. He's very similar to Ernest Green. and he got a really great block. He looked very There there's just I can't say enough about Zakai and him being, you know, true freshmen coming in and getting I think they're gonna get merited snaps on that line and a rotation. Richman: Yeah, yeah. Ted Turner: So it was good to see that. but yeah, depth is what I had. Defense is fast. and then I think offense, I think it can be explosive, right? I think we answered some questions in how explosive we can be. Fifteen different receivers. So we we we still leave the fan base going. You know, who's gonna be the go to guy? I think Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo sent a message is right now we don't have a go to guy, but we have a hell of a lot of players that feel confident when you do go to them, they can make a play. Richman: Well how how great is that? How great is that to have not have a go to receiver that they're gonna key on a double team because you got so many receivers that are capable. I mean that that's Ted Turner: Hundred percent. Richman: better than having the go to guy. Ted Turner: Hundred percent. Yeah. And we're just talking about we're talking about the receiver in the tight end room, right? We ain't even spoken about the depth at the at the at the the tailback position. I mean, Richman: Right. Ted Turner: I thought between Nate, I thought Chauncey ran hard. I thought Dwight ran hard. I think when Bo got in there, he ran incredibly hard. I mean, Jay Lamar scored. Richman: Bo looked good. Bo got in there and he did it. Ted Turner: I mean, dude, I mean it was like a sh it was a showing on all cylinders. And I said Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: it at the beginning. I'm not gonna, I mean, but I always want to preempt it. I understand, I very much so understand in case some of these clips end up on TikTok or other places. I very much understand we played Tennessee State. But I will also tell you that this is a Georgia team. Some of these teams, when you go back in the last five years, even years where we won the national championship, the SEC championship, me, Rich, me, you, and Fish, who's not here with us tonight, have sat through group chat conversations with teams like Tennessee State and we've played around with them. We toyed around with them. We couldn't figure some things out. Richman: Yeah, we were sh and we were shaking our heads going, How how could this be? Ted Turner: Yes. And so I so we're sitting there with the exact opposite. I was just good to be like we were just throwing more names and more names in the group chat. We're like, Pro throw, man, PJ Dean, man. PJ Dean had two sac he he led the team with sacks. Richman: He yeah, man. He he was he was hot. He Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: he looked good. Ted Turner: I don't know if I don't know if like we could be in a better position. And I love how everything's kinda we're gonna talk about around the SEC here in a second, but I love how it's kinda panning out around the country, right? You got some big you got the big ten SEC gonna beat it beat up on each other, this coming up weekend. It'll be separation Saturday. I I will tell you it'll be probably the only weekend that you'll ever hear me rooting for Oklahoma and and Mississippi State as well as Texas. Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: Mississippi State goes in and plays a really important game for them when they gotta go into Minnesota, because Mississippi State's coming off a a a game where they put up seven hundred yards of total offense and now, you know, they get to play Richman: D can you believe that turnaround? I mean Ted Turner: Well they always we always knew it was capable, right? It was just like, well finally we got what we wanted out of Jeff Levy, right? And I I mean, you gotta play a I mean that's the the the key point sometimes is not necessarily can you can you score on some of these teams that are not as talented, but sometimes is can you I mean, you look at Alabama, I mean Alabama have busts, right, against their opponent on Saturday and I and I can't remember who they played. Do they who they play, Kent State? I can't remember. Richman: Play North Alabama. Ted Turner: North Alabama. I but I mean they they had they had busts, man. I mean literal busts in coverage. so it it was it was good to see clean and we we talked about that. We we said five things. We wanted to be we wanted to dominate the line of scrimmage, check, right? We wanted to be explosive, check. We wanted to run the football, check. We wanted to We wanted to have a clean game. We didn't want to have any busts. We wanted communication to be really well. Check. And in my opinion, one of the biggest things was is we wanted to figure out who was gonna sti step out of this wide receiver room and we answered the question very awkwardly. Everybody. Everybody wants the ball. Richman: Everybody. Ted Turner: Everybody wants the damn ball, dude. So check, check, check, check, you know. So so just I mean, and you know D do do you sit here and do you relish over these things and and I can hear it now, man. I'm gonna post somebody's 'cause they're gonna be like, it was Tennessee State. It was you're right, but the execution was there. The execution was there. Richman: Not only that, but the execution from like the the first team was out in the second quarter. So for two or two and a half quarters, Ted Turner: Yeah. And some of those guys were out in ten, twelve plays. Richman: the execution was with your second and third string. So Ted Turner: Yeah, a hundred percent. Richman: that that I you know, they can say what they want. I I call that impressive. Because most of these Ted Turner: Right. I agree. You know Richman: teams, most of these SEC teams that ran up the numbers, they didn't pull they didn't pull their first strings out. Or if they did, it was in late in the fourth quarter. So Ted Turner: I agree. I agree. Richman: it was a very different animal from the way I saw it. Ted Turner: I agree. I totally agree. and I'm gonna do I'm gonna go through my power rankings at the end so that I can post them a little later on. But round the SEC, let's let's just let's let's move around a little bit. I think we can put Tennessee State to bed. if you haven't done so, Thursday night of this week we will get together and we will do our our weekly show where we'll do all of our picks. It'll be a really cool pick show this week. 'Cause there's a lot of good games out there this week. and we'll do all of our picks, but also preview Western Kentucky. but Alabama, East Carolina. This East Carolina was was was no they had the opportunity to do some really good things against Alabama, didn't take the opportunity. But Alabama pulls out a forty eight to ten victory. I mean, one thing. Let's just do one thing. One thing that stood out with you about this game, bit Rich Mango. Richman: What Alabama? Ted Turner: Alabama. Yeah. Anything stand out to you about that game when you watched it? Yeah, Alabama to me, I mean, Keelan Russell was great with his legs. Richman: Man, I didn't I didn't get to see that one. I just saw some highlights back. The co the quarterback the quarterback kind of the highlights, the quarterback was impressive. Ted Turner: Yeah. He was good with his legs. I think that East East Carolina lost a lot. I mean, if you remember correctly, last year, a lot of people went in the portal from East Carolina, knowingly so, because they had a pretty decent year, had some good talent on that side of the ball. and so they kind of got I mean, Jamari Riddle came to us from East Carolina. So, but for the most part, I thought Alabama had opportunities where they could have made it worse. They had a had a really bad bust in the secondary. Which is kind of crazy because the secondary is something that they really were supposed to I mean, and that's just a bust, right? But you gotta it's something to watch. But the secondary is is the one that's returning the most starters, right? It's supposed to the secondary is supposed to be their strong suit this year. so I thought it was I thought it was kind of lackluster for Alabama. nothing really make or break. I mean, Caitlin De Boer, you're talking like over the sideline. Caitlin DeBoer just always looks like he's frustrated. And I just don't know if he's ever felt, I don't know even yet, if he really still still feels like this is still his team, right? I don't fully know if he doesn't stand on that sideline and still go, is this my team? You know, am I still in the shadows? And are these fans still shadowing me with Nick said? Richman: Well I'll let you in on a little secret right there. It ain't his team until he wins a national championship for him. Ted Turner: I I I could not agree with you more. That that that's pretty well said. Couldn't agree with you more. And but I do think he feels that, man. I think he feels that. And I think they're gonna still I mean Richman: He probably said so. Ted Turner: I mean, yeah, you ran the ball. You ran the ball against East Carolina. You wanted to do that. You could tell that, you know, that he wanted to show that, but I also feel like if they can consistently get the kind of production from its quarterback with his legs this year. But I still think you could run into a situation where if you can't run the ball and if you can't throw the ball, then they're gonna fix that Lenora Sellers style. You know? I mean, Lenora Sellers had that last year and he didn't have a statistic in the in the book that said that he was anything short of a top ten pick, which he could be this year, depending on the type year he has. we saw Kentucky, Youngstown State. Well, I think it stood out to meet to to Kentucky as they have an offense, man. It I mean I I can't remember the last time Kentucky scored forty five points. I mean, do you agree? Richman: Yeah, I agree, man. Good good on good on them. Ted Turner: Just I mean solid solid opening day offense look looks much more comfortable. Will Stein said he's gonna go. I asked him what he was going home to do. He said, I'm gonna go home and have a cold beer and watch some football. I thought Richman: Mm-hmm. Ted Turner: that was cool. Tennessee kills Furman. to as Faison Brandon, man. I think they made the right choice. I mean, him and Keelan Russell, man, they are very athletic. They have very good arms. Tennessee is gonna be sneaky good this year. Sneaky good. I mean, can Jim Noel, Richman: Glad we ain't got a point. Ted Turner: yeah, can Jim Knowles turn this defense around? I think the offense is gonna be there. But is the defense going to be ready when they got to turnaround in a couple weeks and really prove themselves against a couple teams really early, really, really early. Texas, Texas State. What blew my mind about Texas to Texas State 59 to 7 is they got outrushed by Texas State. That's something that's bothersome. Richman: Really? Ted Turner: Yeah, they got outrushed. I saw 159 to 156. Texas State ran the ball Richman: My gosh. Ted Turner: on 459 yards. I'm sure Will Mushamp had Richman: Ran it on the text? Ted Turner: an aneurysm. I mean, knock on wood, I don't want to wish that on anybody, but I'm sure that he had a freaking meltdown knowing that he got they got ran on that much. Crazy, huh? No. No. And don't quote me on the exact number. Richman: I wouldn't want to be in that locker room with him. No. It's gonna be a rough week for those boys. Ted Turner: Don't quote me on the exact number, but I do know that they got they got outrushed. Auburn, Auburn could have lost that game, man, against Baylor. Talk me about that one, Rich. Richman: That was that was a good game. I I I tell ya, it I couldn't believe if he'd thrown that ball just a touch outside, that would have been six. And Auburn would have lost. Al Auburn won that by the skin of their teeth. Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I agree. I mean they they literally did. If he doesn't tackle that guy, I mean, if DJ Lagway Richman: That was a good that was a bet yeah, that was that was that was a great tackle. Absolutely one on single solo tackle. Can't get any better than that because I mean if that guy had was if he'd have been able to spin or something, it was a touchdown. Ted Turner: Well well DJ Lagway pulled a DJ Lagway. I mean, I've seen that throw a hundred times to Florida. Richman: Yeah. Lagla is so good, but he he botches so many short passes. God Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. All you got to do is put that ball ahead of the tight end and he just falls in. And I've seen it, seen it time and time again. And I I'm Richman: Falls forward. Ted Turner: gonna be honest, like Auburn probably doesn't wish bad on anybody, but when DJ Lagway when the when the ankle got taken out of DJ Lagway, if you get him mobile in any of those plays, it's a different ball game. I mean, they they lose that game if he's mobile, I think. If he's a mobile quarterback, they lose. But also they, I mean, it's scary to know that they could have lost with him not being mobile. I mean, he just needs to make that throw, bottom line. Arkansas, man, struggled. Struggle with North Alabama. I mean, Silver Fox, Silverfield, Silver Dust, whatever his name is, dude, he looks like he's another guy that hasn't really solidified the fact that he is the coach at Arkansas. He's not like there's a Sam Pittman type shadow, I think, that's still there. I mean, you can see when he's given the interview before half, he's like he's like terrible, like terrible. Worst, worst offense I've ever seen. And it's like, you gotta know before you step on the field. Richman: Post post gang was the same. Ted Turner: But you gotta know before you get on the field. I mean, I would I would venture out to say it it it showed Arkansas's got a better defense than North Alabama. So that means the offense sees that defense every day. So was was the offense just that bad? In 21 to 28 practices before they stepped on that field that day. I mean, somewhere along the way, you gotta look and go, maybe I just need to go. Maybe this offense needs to change a little bit. Maybe I need to run the damn ball. I don't know. Something, because it it was bad. It was very bad. And I mean, you'll hear my power rankings here in a minute, but th they they may not grace above sixteen in my power rankings for the rest of the year. That's just me. Texas AM took care of Missouri State. I don't think there's anything to talk about there. I think, I think kind of like George just clicked on all cylinders. I think Reed looked good. I think Isaiah Horton, some of those guys that you just wanted to see solid outings from him. You saw defense was solid. It was Kyle Field. Vanderbilt, man, yeah. Wow. 28 to 9, Austin P. game was eventually stopped after lightning, but not nearly explosive as other as some of the other SEC teams, but also not nearly explosive as last year and the year before with Diego Pavia. I just feel like there's a little bit of a lackluster going on. Jerry Curtis gets in there. He made a couple throws, but you know, I mentioned like, how do you gotta be feeling if you're Jerry Curtis, man? You're sitting in the same position that you were, that you would be at Georgia, and you took money because somehow or another y you thought that you were gonna be the starter at Vanderbilt. And you know what? You might be. After they've gone, I don't know, three and four. I I don't know. Win's a win, right? Win's a win, but it it wasn't pretty. what was pretty was Mississippi State absolutely pumping ULM 62 13, 762 yards of total offense, 472 Richman: Man barg on. Ted Turner: of its passing, 345 of its rushing. Kamario Taylor has an an incredible arm, man. Now, once again, you gotta look at ULM and go, they scored 13 points. Big talk is is can Zach Arnett bring that defense up just enough to where the offense can balance out with a defense and I don't know if we could see it yet, but I but I would Rich, I would beg to differ that do you really have to worry about I mean obviously against other teams that are gonna have a little bit better of a defense than the SEC, but damn man, you cut that seventy six seven sixty two to five hundred or four fifty, like it's a pretty damn good offensive showing, right? Totally agree. Richman: They'll win they'll win a lot of games putting up put putting up that those numbers. Ted Turner: Yeah. Did you get a chance to watch the Florida game? Periods, the late night game. Richman: I did not see the Florida game. Ted Turner: Yeah, Florida, Florida, Atlanta, 862. I same way here. I mean, I thought I I will tell you, Buster Faulkner's offense on display at Florida is is really good, man. Philo runs it well. they have great offensive production. It was surprisingly. Jaden Baugh is he fed off of the fact that they had a passing game. the line looked decent. I thought the defense played well. Granted, it's against Florida Atlantic and they gave a few touchdowns. but after the way some people have viewed Florida entering into the season, like sixty-six points, it's a good change of it'll k it'll change the conversation a little bit, you know. I think it could have gone completely different and people could be like, Well, we really don't know what to think of John Sumerall. We're still kinda in limbo land. I think Buster Faulkner kind of slid his name in there to be like, Hey, I know you don't trust this, but I'm a guy that no matter when I was at Georgia, no matter when I was at Georgia Tech, and now I'm at Florida, I was steady Eddie. My offensive play calling was something that I look back and go if you know, I sometimes look back, no offense to Bobo, 'cause I'm not saying it in terms of I would want him to take Bobo's spot, but I would be totally fine with Buster Faulkner. I was very I was very concerned when Faulkner left 'cause I was like, he's a he's a guy that just made us better in that offensive room, right? And y and you saw he was an untapped, you know, an untapped coach that was gonna give us a lot of upside. Richman: Mm-mm. Ted Turner: And then LSU, the nightcap. Good lord, man. LSU Richman: Ooh. Ted Turner: Dabo. I I will say, man, just probably one of the worst showings of an ACC team in a big game environment. it might be all this year and could be in the last five years. I mean, the offense looked abysmal. They couldn't move the ball. either Blake Baker had a really damn good game plan or Chad Morris hadn't called a play call since COVID and He looked like his offense had COVID. what give me a little give me a little take on this game. Richman: Dabba needs to Dabba needs to give that give the wife the American Express card and tell her to go look for a retirement home 'cause he ain't gonna be around much longer. Ted Turner: No, not and and granted, you may get one more year. It's only only due to the fact that fifty eight million dollars goes down to like a more of a controllable twenty something million next year. if they if they choose to hire him, but Richman: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I tell you what I liked. that running back at LSU, number thirteen, golly, he's a beast. I mean, he's gonna be he's gonna be trouble this season. Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: And I mean you know, and that that run game's gonna open up the passing. They're gonna be they're they're gonna be really good. They're gonna cause a lot of trouble. Ted Turner: I just love how everybody's like overreacting, though. I mean, it's it's Clemson, man. Yeah, LSU looked good, Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: but it's Clemson. You're gonna see that Clemson's not Clemson this year. I mean, they're probably a middle of the pack ACC team. Like it's gonna be a struggle bus, man. I mean, the surprise really was LSU might be really good. I mean, but we gotta see him up Richman: Right. Ted Turner: against somebody with a little bit. I mean Richman: Well did didn't the quarterback have a hundred yards rushing? Ted Turner: Y yes. I didn't have the stats on him, but I mean the surpr Richman: Levitt. I mean when you got a quarterback and a running back like that. Ted Turner: Yeah, I totally, I totally agree. so really quick, let me before we end the night and we kind of give some final thoughts, I want to just go through really quick. I'm gonna be popping on TikTok probably tomorrow evening doing a power ranking show on Tuesday night. But let me pull it up. matter of fact, I might have it right here. so power rankings. So basically my power rankings every week will include if team A versus team B met on a neutral field. and obviously it incurs to what the week one outcomes were. And obviously every team won their game. But you know, coming off the first one, I think mine changed a little bit. But this is just based off of week one. So so this is straight from sixteen to one. So week one power rankings I have I have Arkansas at the bottom at sixteen. I got Vanderbilt at fifteen. I think Vanderbilt is good right there. I think it's tough, man, because Kentucky looked better, but I still think I I had a tough time. I had a really tough time with Kentucky and Auburn, but I just gave the fact that Auburn played a little bit on paper tougher opponent. So I got Auburn at 13. Might be a little low for some people, but that's where I got I got Missouri at twelve. Once again, didn't really They didn't do anything to deserve that twelve. They I thought they had some bright spots. I thought they played well. It's kind of forgetful Thursday night game. You saw all the games happen on Saturday, but Austin Simmons looked well. But I gotta see what Amad Hardy's gonna add to this offense and when they play somebody like how how are they really gonna separate themselves from the rest of some of these teams they play before I really feel good about moving them forward. So I have them safely at twelve. I moved Mississippi State out of the out of the cellar, man. I mean, I had Mississippi State in the cellar at the beginning of the year because I just didn't think Jeff Levy could produce at a high level. And so I gotta give him something, man, for s almost eight hundred freaking yards of total offense, man. So I got Mississippi State at eleven. I got Florida at ten. It was tough between them and South Carolina. but I thought South Carolina just looked a little bit more dominating than than Florida did. Florida allowed the twenty one points. That was the big difference to me. So that put South Carolina at nine. I have Tennessee at eight. I thought Tennessee had a good showing. Offense had a good showing. seven, I have Texas AM shut out Missouri State. I think Reed looked good. I think the receivers looked good. They were able to run the ball. The defense shows up and put the zero on the board. I think that deserves seven. I had a hard time where where Alabama and Texas AM sat. The only reason I gave the the edge a little bit to Alabama is I felt like Alabama. had a little bit better display of running the football, which to me is what Alabama has being charged with this year if they have to run the football in order to in order to get it done this year. I really don't think they can they're not going to be able to rely on Keelan Russell to run around, you know, and the offensive line is not good enough in my opinion to allow him to run around. It's gonna be a Lenoris type South Carolina year if that's what they're banking on. And the defense has promised it's supposed to be good on paper, but they had some busts for me. Ole Miss, I still have right there at fifth. although I don't think it's a scary old miss we're used to. I think the offense looks a little bit a little bit un undone, unbuttoned up. Richman: They look they look scattered, man. Ted Turner: I agree. I agree. Didn't you know, it's the lane kip is not there. But apparently they're they're kind of molding everything around, you know, Lane Kippin style offense. But I do think it showed Trinidad Chambliss has still got some it showed that he could take over a game regardless, I think. You know, he took that game over, put it in his put it in his hands. And I thought the defense has got a few things to work on, man. I thought there was some they paid a lot of money for that defense. I mean, Pete Golding had the opportunity to write his checks on the defensive side of the ball this year. He did it, and it didn't really show up on the field. He allowed Louisville to to come back in that game and almost win it. so that was, I mean, and I'm not I'm not totally out of the ballpark that Louisville shouldn't have gone for it. I mean, you come back that far, you know, maybe you end it right there. I don't know. I I have no idea. Texas, I got at four. A lot of people are gonna look and be like, man, really? I I I didn't I didn't see whatever I didn't see the hype everybody had. once again, got outrushed by Texas State. defense, I think I think book Muschamp and the defense saved the day as far as what the scoreboard looked like. Do I think Arch looked good? I mean, yeah, on air with Cam Coleman and and Wingo and you know, two rent. I mean, yeah, they they were supposed to, but I don't think it was that clean of a game. I I don't think everybody's like fifty nine to seven, move up to the I mean, anybody's looking for a reason to move Texas to one. Texas plays Ohio State this week. We'll see if Texas garners the number one spot in the SEC because if they do, they should handle Ohio State this weekend. I got Oklahoma at third. I thought it was Pretty solid of a win. they put everything on display. I thought Mateer threw the ball a little bit better. Not much, but better. Satania is is a is a force to be reckoned with. Oklahoma defense is as advertised. It's good, good, good. and I I moved LSU on up to second, man. I moved him on up there. I'm respecting, I'm respecting the talent. I thought the offense looked good. I thought that defense looked I thought Blake Baker, man, had that defense looking really good. and and they they They they did something to Clemson that don't get done a lot. They they buttoned them up really well. And then I just don't have Georgia moving out of that spot. Man, I can't do it. Not with the way they were to to throw the ball around to 15 different receivers, defense and only allowing, you know, double digits and both rushing and passing. And I do feel like Gunnar Stockton was on point. I feel like the running game was was solid. I mean, the only thing I could tell you that might need a might be a a C minus type grade with special teams, but I don't think it was enough to sit here and harp about. So so that's my power rankings, man. Week one. anything you noticed in there, anything you would have changed? Anything you didn't like, you hated? Richman: I like that. It looks good. Yeah, it'll Ted Turner: It's the best I can do, man. Best I can do. And you know, everybody Richman: shake out next week 'cause you're right, Texas has got a big game. But Kentucky and Alabama play, right? That's gonna be that's gonna be interesting. Yeah. Ted Turner: Mm-hmm. Kentucky, Alabama next week, yeah. Or this week, sorry. Yep, yep, yep. All right, man. Well, final thoughts. So week one, one and sixty three points, hundred and nine yards allowed, six hundred and sixty yards of offense. I don't think we realized we weren't too far behind that Mississippi State Richman: Thanks. Ted Turner: number. and we pulled, I mean, I'd be I I don't I might want to go look at that game and see when Camaro Taylor came out of the game. Nate Frazier explosive, tight ends loaded. Defense looked fast. Georgia's depth was very impressive. you know, but there's things, right? Penalties, special teams. There's things we can get better this week. And I know I know Kirby will. I know he will keep our eyes off of the fact that we're everybody's excited about this whiteout. And this is the first time we've done this in a while. I'll tell you what, man, this could get wild really quick if we don't come out doing the same things like we're supposed to, like we did against Tennessee State against Western Kentucky. Hell, for all we know. Kirby might be like, put the damn white helmets in the locker, get the red ones out. We might see in the second half coming out with silver britches and red helmets, man. He's notorious for that. I mean, I that would be hilarious. Now Richman: That would be hilarious. Ted Turner: I hope we don't get to that point. I hope it's just a really great, really great game. But what about you, Richmond? Final thoughts? Richman: Man, I think it's to me it's one of the best starts of the season I've seen in God, years. I mean, I think this was better than back in in twenty one and twenty, you know. So I don't know, I'm super optimistic. It it's ours to lose, I'll say that. Ted Turner: Yeah. I totally agree, man. I totally agree. It's exciting. It was as good of an outcome as we could have for Tennessee State on week one. Looking forward to Western Kentucky and an early Richman: No. Ted Turner: game. Get used to these early games, dog fans, because you got another one coming up against Arkansas at noon, in Arkansas. so we got a few early games before I'm pretty sure we will see a night game for Oak Bull. but that's far away.
