- 4:14So, miss Yvonne, if you don't mind, come on up. Hello.
- 4:19How are you fine? How are you? I'm good, I'm good,
- 4:25good to be here tonight, Glad to have you, Glad to have
- 4:29you. Before we get started, if you could introduce yourself, Okay,
- 4:34I am Yvonne hot I am a reverend at Antioch Baptist Christian Church and I
- 4:42am a school educator in Atlanta, Georgia, and I am the sister of
- 4:46Rico and the sister in law of Litanya. Nice to see it all right,
- 4:51good? Okay, Well before we jump in, I wanted to ask
- 5:04you about your your profession being a teacher. How long have you been doing
- 5:12that? Okay, So I am right now. I am a coach,
- 5:15but I've been in education for this is my sixteenth year. I thank you.
- 5:23I teach children with special needs. So I teach children with autism,
- 5:29down syndrome, wheelchair babies, all those types of children, even children that
- 5:34are on what they call special specific learning disabilities. So all of those kids
- 5:41are kids that I work with. Now I am a coach for teachers who
- 5:46teach those kids. So this year I had about eight schools. Uh,
- 5:53next year I probably have four just because we're kind of trying to streamline some
- 5:58of our processes. But I had eight schools and I had about maybe twenty
- 6:01something teachers that I was in charge of to kind of coach them on how
- 6:05to teach those those babies, and you know, different strategies and things like
- 6:11that. But yes, this is this is I'm saying sixteen. Yeah,
- 6:18yeah, I was a nurse for that though, so a nurse. Yes,
- 6:21I was a pediatric nurse before that, so okay, how long did
- 6:26you do that? I did that for twelve years, so I kind of
- 6:29like, so this is like my second career, so yeah, okay,
- 6:33yeah. What's the most rewarding part of your job for you? Well?
- 6:41The children, of course, seeing children learn, because most people think that
- 6:46our babies can't learn, so and sometimes they treat our teachers like their glorified
- 6:53babysitters. But as a as a coach, getting my teachers to understand also
- 7:00that you can teach our babies. Some of our teachers say, oh,
- 7:03he can't do that, that's too hard for him. But you know,
- 7:09I try to teach them ways in which you can get a child, like
- 7:12you know, a kid to add or a kid to a kid with autism,
- 7:16to just just that's a nonverbal kid, just to say hello or say
- 7:20their names. I try to get them to understand progress is progress, even
- 7:26though we don't see progress. Let's just say we've been working all year and
- 7:30we haven't We think we haven't seen anything. But then at the end of
- 7:34the year, the baby says his name. That's progress and so and so
- 7:40for me, that's what I like, you know, you know, and
- 7:43I still have kids who I taught when they were like kindergarten, third fourth,
- 7:48fifth grade, they're in high school and they still remember me. So
- 7:54so I kind of I get joy from that as well. You know,
- 7:57I go out, you know, like when we go to like special lim
- 8:00Bis and things like that, I see all of my babies. So I
- 8:01am really inspired by the kids and all of the you know, just them
- 8:07having the tenacity to keep working. Yeah. So we know that your son
- 8:15has Aspergers. He does, Yes, he has Asperger's. Well now they've
- 8:20changed it. They changed Yeah, So it's just it's called it's just autism
- 8:26spectrum disorder. So you because it's a it's a spectrum. You have you
- 8:31know, those on the lower end and those on the higher end. My
- 8:33son is on the higher end. So he does have some functions that are
- 8:39you know, normal, like like everyone else. But most of the time,
- 8:43you know, things like social communication he has trouble with. But a
- 8:48lot of people don't really think about him having autism because he's so social.
- 8:54But it's just the things that he do sometimes will that you know, Okay,
- 9:01he has those where they they know facts like he knows all the facts
- 9:07about every Georgia's, every Georgia sports team there is. He can tell you
- 9:13about him. He can tell you on the team, He can tell you
- 9:16everything about him. He loves uh, he loves wrestling, so he can
- 9:20tell you anything about things like that. So it's it's just different things that
- 9:26he can tell you. But the one thing about it is that when you
- 9:31talk to him, you might not You might be like, oh, that's
- 9:33so smart, because very very very intelligent. Yeah, but the social piece
- 9:41is where I think the social and communication pieces where he has. He has
- 9:45those deficits, and so we work on those every day. You know,
- 9:48we teach him, hey, you're you're you're too close. You can't just
- 9:54say what you know. Sometimes it says whatever comes out of his mouth,
- 9:58and I have to teach you know, you can't just say everything that comes
- 10:01out to mouth. Things like that. But other than that, he's doing
- 10:05he's doing great. You know. Is he the reason that you chose special
- 10:09education? Well? Actually no, well I mean part of it. He
- 10:13is a reason. So I went to school to when I was a nurse,
- 10:18you know, I worked in pediatrics and I was a you know,
- 10:22medical assistant. But I was doing everything that a nurse could do, you
- 10:24know, all the blood work everything, but I wasn't getting paid. So
- 10:28I went to school and said, hey, I'm gonna go to school.
- 10:31I'm gonna get my nursing degree. Well, as I was getting my nursing
- 10:35degree, it just happened that I couldn't never get my grades up enough in
- 10:43nurse to get into the nursing school. So I told the lady, I
- 10:45said, listen, I didn't need to get out of school. What can
- 10:50I to get out of school? And what can I do with it?
- 10:52So she said, well you I got it. So I got a degree
- 10:54in African American Studies and I was gonna take that because I like history.
- 11:00So I was gonna take that and go to the school system. But then
- 11:01it was like it just clicked, Hey, you know you work with kids,
- 11:07you know kids, you know you you have a son who's you know,
- 11:13specially ed. So I just started working, you know, just subthing,
- 11:16just you know, kind of trying to pay the bills, and I
- 11:20ended up just it just ended up going that way. So I really think
- 11:24that it was God's playing all along for me to be doing this, and
- 11:28it was just this. This was just the way for me to you know,
- 11:31get into get into it and do it that way. Yeah, you
- 11:35got question. Well, like you said that, when I first met Malcolm,
- 11:43I couldn't tell until you told me because, like you said, the
- 11:46way he talked was very high intelligent. I was like, you know,
- 11:50he just just coming with coming with it until you like calmed him down and
- 11:56you like told me, right, what's going on. I was like,
- 11:58okay, because he'll because he'll go especially if it's something that he really cares
- 12:03about. You know, he's gonna be passionate about it. He's gonna keep
- 12:07talking about it. He's gonna So that's that's the piece. That's that autistic
- 12:11piece o. Kids. You know they focus on if there's something that they
- 12:16focus on and they can't seem to not focus on it. So those are
- 12:22the types of you know, things that But you know, he he does
- 12:26whatever he feels. You know, what I love about him is that he
- 12:31does what is what's true to him. Yeah, so he's not gonna let
- 12:35you stop him from doing whatever he says he said his mind to do,
- 12:39right, because once hend to that's it. I don't care what I say,
- 12:45I'll be like, Michael, you can't do that. You know I
- 12:48can. So, you know, I just don't got to the point where
- 12:50I just be like, Okay, try it out, do it, and
- 12:54I'm just going Mama, going back you and keep it moving. Because I
- 12:58called you once or twice, like I'm concerned about mine because he's everywhere.
- 13:07Yeah, I called you. He called me he's fine. I was like,
- 13:09Okay. My girls do that too. They always say, Mama,
- 13:15did you check on Malcolm? I said, I don't have to check on
- 13:18I know where he is. He's good, you know. He said he
- 13:22has a set routine. That's a good thing about you know, our kids
- 13:28that that. And when I say our kids, I mean my my specially
- 13:31had babies. They are on a routine and then when you bring them out
- 13:37of their routine, that's when they get messed up. So you have to
- 13:41let them stay on the routine that they normally stay on. So for me,
- 13:46I know that he's gonna be home. He's thirty years old, and
- 13:50you know, most most thirty year old is gonna be out there doing whatever
- 13:52they're gonna do. Mine's will be at home eleven thirty and he's he going
- 13:58and they're gonna fix him something eat, and he's going to be I do
- 14:01not worry now. When I started worrying, me like hey, hey,
- 14:05hey, it's a little after twelve, right, you know. And then
- 14:09but I call him and say, hey, you all right, and he'll
- 14:13be like yeah, mama, you know that type of thing. But I
- 14:16don't really worry until because I because I know him and he knows me,
- 14:20so he knows if it's not that time, he'll be like, you know,
- 14:24if it's getting closed, he'd be like, Mama, can you come
- 14:26hit me up from the train station? That type of thing. So right,
- 14:30my girl supposed to be you know, like and I'd be like,
- 14:33this is a grown man. Leave him alone. You know. Yeah,
- 14:37you know, I kind of worry when he goes worries about it. We
- 14:39were a little mine until we started following that young man on social media and
- 14:45the fact that he has so much independence and his situation doesn't hold him down.
- 14:52It's like you know, the parent and us is like, Okay,
- 14:56this is a mama know where he had, you know, like me big,
- 15:01but lave me. I know I know he had because hes gonna hes
- 15:03gonna put he gonna post it and he's gonna send me a picture, right,
- 15:07so especially we go and see them when w W comes down to Atlanta.
- 15:11Yes, I know he's going to one of those those events. I
- 15:15know. Last he's gonna go to Dragon Con. He got you know all
- 15:18of that. So most of the time though, he like I said,
- 15:24he's gonna let me know so, and it's I just try to get him
- 15:30independence as if I would a thirty year old, not to the point where
- 15:35I don't you know what I mean, I don't see it. So like
- 15:39by him being in Orlando, everybody like you let him go down there by
- 15:41myself. Yes, he's okay, Yes, he's fine. His he got
- 15:48I have, I have relatives down there, so you know, so that's
- 15:52a good part, all right. But he's gonna call, you know,
- 15:58he just that's just him. He's gonna call because he's gonna you know,
- 16:02he he knows that, you know, I need to know where he's doing.
- 16:06So he's gonna call. And if I won't, if I don't think
- 16:08he gonna call, I'm just gonna look on the Facebook and I know exactly
- 16:12where he is Instagram, because you know that he's going to Disney World like
- 16:18to work. I was like wow. I was like, you know yeah,
- 16:25And I was like, you know, when I thought out he's going
- 16:26there by hisself, I was like, you roll around Atlanta by himself or
- 16:30ain't nothing. You know. He loves animation, you know, yeah,
- 16:37Disney and his his dream is like to be a mascot. So that's the
- 16:45perfect place for him, you know, allowing him to be whatever he you
- 16:48know, he could be whatever cares you want to be. So I'm good
- 16:52with that. Like I said, I have family down there, so you
- 16:55know, i'd be like, hey, can you go check on mad see
- 16:57how you know? You know that type of thing. The only thing I
- 17:02can't get with is calling him Teddy King Teddy. Yeah, but that's you
- 17:10know, I'm gonna let him have that, but his mama is not gonna
- 17:12call him king. Absolutely. When he was telling me, you know,
- 17:18when we met you at the mall and he was walking with me and talking
- 17:22to me, and he was talking about the girls and females that he liked,
- 17:27and he started talking about King Teddy and I'm like, what the man
- 17:30who is King Teddy? And he was like, you know, he started
- 17:34explaining, you know, that's me, and you know, this is what
- 17:37I do. And I'm like, all right, yeah, I'm not I'm
- 17:41not doing that. I just I just enjoyed when he he's on Instagram and
- 17:48go to his page and press play King Teddy here Bear. It just brings
- 17:59a smile to my You go ahead, you go ahead. You're gonna make
- 18:02mama some money some days. So Goad, absolutely, we definitely will.
- 18:07And So just to shift the atmosphere a little bit, I want to talk
- 18:14about the ministry for you. When do you know? When did you know
- 18:19that you were called to preach? So I started out as a I don't
- 18:30done everything in the church, so so I've been all, you know,
- 18:36church school teacher. I was on finance, everything right, and it was
- 18:41like God just kept saying, there's something more for you. So I so
- 18:45I was called to be a deacon like a year before I got the ministry.
- 18:51And then it was like, okay, I'm a deacon, you know,
- 18:55And so I kept asking God, is this it? And God was
- 18:59like no, you know, but I think each role was training me for
- 19:02the other. For the ministry role. Now, I'm still fairly new at
- 19:07this because you know, because I just got ordained not too long ago.
- 19:10But but I just think that I've always been that, you know, in
- 19:17in the ministry. It's just that I've just been in a different role.
- 19:21And I think those roles were to were leading me up into to be in
- 19:26as a as a Yeah, because like I said, most of everything,
- 19:32I you know, even as even when I was little, you know,
- 19:36six seven, eight years old, it was like I just loved to I
- 19:40just love to be in church, you know. And it wasn't I didn't
- 19:44want to be in the you know, I wasn't trying to preach, but
- 19:47I just you know, I would listen to the I would listen and listen
- 19:49to the sermons. I would be in the listen to the choir, that
- 19:53type of thing. So it was always in me. I don't know if
- 19:56that's necessarily when God called me. I just know I heard the answer,
- 20:03you know, about two three years ago so and so, and you know,
- 20:07of course I thought, hey, it's to be a deacon. So
- 20:11you know, I got trained to be a deacon and then and then I
- 20:18was trained after that to be you know, to go into the ministry.
- 20:21So I spent about a year as a minister, and then I got ordained
- 20:26last year in June. In June, so yep, so that we were
- 20:30able to watch your ordination online. We got the link from your mom and
- 20:40we were there like we we couldn't be there physically, but we were in
- 20:45the building. Mama told me, she said I gave him. I gave
- 20:48him every day. I said, yes, I said, I appreciate it
- 20:52because I had an aunt. She couldn't she couldn't be there either. But
- 20:56my mom, my mom's good about right. You know, I think she's
- 21:00going to be my you know, my manager. But asposed to my daughter,
- 21:06my daughter preaching my daughter is my daughter is so yeah, because what
- 21:11she told us, I told, tell you what we want. I'm glad
- 21:17it's gonna be there in some form some form. Yeah, I appreciate it
- 21:22because the more the Mama family behind me, the more I can. You
- 21:26know, you know, we we are on Facebook live. So if you
- 21:33would like to, you know, join us on a Sunday if you can't,
- 21:36you know, if you're at your church or you can't, you can't
- 21:37join us at abc C East Point and then you can see. You know,
- 21:44I don't preach every Sunday, of course, because I'm just a you
- 21:48know, an associate minister. So we go from there. Yeah, okay,
- 21:52but but I enjoyed, I enjoyed the I guess the life I have
- 21:57right now. So yeah, yeah, What has been the downside of being
- 22:03a female preacher for you or has there been a downside? Well, I
- 22:10don't think I've experienced it yet. Now I've watched you know, my pastor,
- 22:15but I don't think I've experienced it yet because coming from the church,
- 22:18I you know, I'm at because she's you know, she's I have a
- 22:22woman pastor, so she allows you to do things that normal you know pastors
- 22:27may or may not let you do. So I haven't gotten to that point
- 22:33yet. And then most of the ministers that you know, we belong to
- 22:37this group called Friends and Fellowship, so there are a lot they have male
- 22:42pastors in that in the in this fellowship, and they allow women to you
- 22:48know, kind of just be who they are. So right now, I
- 22:52don't think I've experienced anything yet. But I guess as I moved up in
- 22:59the you know, into the ranks, there may come a time where you
- 23:03know, I probably will you know, experience you know, those type of
- 23:06things. But I have you know, experienced how my pastor, like we
- 23:10go to another church and we have to do things for like at funerals and
- 23:15stuff like that, how how they treat her sometimes. So I know,
- 23:19you know, it's possible. So I'm not you know, I'm not,
- 23:23and I'm just for me. I'm just I'm I'm humble. So if you
- 23:29tell me, you know you don't want to preach you your puppet, I'm
- 23:33good with that because that means that's not where I need to be in the
- 23:37first place, right right, you know, Hey, I'm gonna move on,
- 23:41keep it moving. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna argue with you about
- 23:45your about your about your you know, pupet. And I just think that
- 23:51everybody has a place where they should be. You know, have a we
- 23:59all have a home, right we can work out where we can work out
- 24:03all our gifts. So this is where I work out my gifts. So
- 24:07yeah, yeah, any more questions, I'm just happy to be talking to
- 24:15you me. I know too, with with with we it's been a long
- 24:21time, yeah, it has. It's been a long time, and I
- 24:26should have made it a point of you know, fini, you know,
- 24:30I mean, it's okay. I mean because in the beginning, we can
- 24:34move forward, you know, go and not. My thing is I think
- 24:42we just have to learn how to make our own what you call it relationship.
- 24:48I know. Like, like I've told you before, I'm not that
- 24:52I'm that sister. He'll gonna come to you, come to rescue what I
- 24:56need to come, But I'm not that sister that's gonna be like, hey,
- 25:00you know, call you every day tight, you know, because my
- 25:03other sisters every day so and I live with them. So. But it
- 25:10was the fact that you know, knowing that you have a sister, but
- 25:15not knowing correct, you know what I'm saying, because when I was yeah,
- 25:22because the thing was if our father had like you know, you have
- 25:26a sister, correct, and just telling us another story, you know,
- 25:32And we're meeting and we're sticking to one story and you're telling us you know
- 25:38what I'm saying, And we had to put like two and two together,
- 25:41you know, And I don't even know the story that. I don't even
- 25:45know the story, to be honest with you, I don't know the story
- 25:47that was told. I just know, you know, Hey, I got
- 25:51brothers out there, y'all do y'all you know I meet y'all one day.
- 25:55If not, So, your mother told you you had brothers? How did
- 26:00you find out? You told me? Yeah, my mama did. Yeah,
- 26:03but this is probably you know, at the time, I was like
- 26:07fourteen fifteen, maybe maybe a little younger, but yeah, she told me
- 26:11I had brothers. Yeah, so I knew that I had brothers, you
- 26:15know, longer like before, but I didn't know like the whole story.
- 26:22So you know, you know, the elder, that's when you learned,
- 26:25you know, because when you learned. Yeah, because what my side was,
- 26:29we was going to see an uncle down in the line. We wound
- 26:32up coming to see you, and the first thing our dad said, we're
- 26:37going to see your cousins. Okay, because your cousin. I'll never forget
- 26:42it. I will never forget this speech. Okay. We came down and
- 26:48you and we we we went the story with we went to the store,
- 26:52and the whole time we was going going to the store and coming back,
- 26:56you were saying, I'm your sister, I'm your sister, and we were
- 26:59like, no, you are cousin. Your dad told you your cousin,
- 27:02and so you went and we got back to your mom's house. You told
- 27:07him. You got in his face to like tell them I'm the sister because
- 27:11I was mad. Value Yeah, by that time, I was like,
- 27:18hey, I stood up and like, you know, we we basically stood
- 27:22up in front of him, like, YO, tell us the truth.
- 27:23Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's yours. I said, why
- 27:26did you tell us this before? So I didn't know that story? I
- 27:30just knew. I just like, okay, but it's but I thank God
- 27:36for social media because I do too. Yeah, you know, I think,
- 27:40and I thank God for you know, my mom willingly you know,
- 27:44willingly to to like hey, let me reach out. Yeah, three together
- 27:49right now. I know I'm not close as I am to the other two
- 27:53as I am to you. That's okay, that's okay, it's okay.
- 28:00I know they're my brothers. I know that, you know, I know,
- 28:03and I'm not. There's no like, I don't feel no love loss.
- 28:06So just make sure, you know, make sure they know that I
- 28:08don't feel any you know, I just feel like maybe, you know,
- 28:12sometimes people just have to get come to the knowledge of things on their own
- 28:19and they have to deal with it in a certain certain way. I just
- 28:22learned how to forgive because I used to be mad because I ain't have you
- 28:30know, I needed a father, right and he was let me tell you
- 28:34that I grew up with the father I needed to have, And so I
- 28:41didn't know how to be your sister, if that makes it. And I
- 28:45was like he was a father, but he wasn't a father. He was
- 28:51just you know, we help him, bumped heads to the part where I
- 29:00got a little older, we squared up. Oh okay. I just didn't
- 29:04know how to how to approach being a sister because I think I'm the oldest,
- 29:10right you know, So for me to be the oldest sister to everybody,
- 29:15like I'm the oldest to the sisters on my mama's side and the sisters
- 29:19on my daddy's side, So for me to try to be how do you
- 29:25be a sister to people that you didn't know, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:30So it's like, well, do I just you know, be me?
- 29:33But then I said, you know what, just be you and however
- 29:36they take it, that's how they take it. And so that's just where
- 29:40that's where I feel like you and I relate so well because I was raised
- 29:48as an only child, and so when I found my biological family. I
- 29:52had a brother and a sister on my mama's side and two brothers on my
- 29:57daddy's side, and you know, going through a situation where I'm not accepted
- 30:03on either end. Like you know, I didn't I didn't choose my parents,
- 30:08correct, that's and so I didn't feel like I should be punished for
- 30:14the parents I got. But you know, it is what it is,
- 30:18And like we don't necessarily have a relationship now, and I've come to a
- 30:22place where I've made peace, you know, because I can't mourn people that
- 30:29I don't know. True, that's true, I don't. I'm not now.
- 30:33I did mourn. I'm not gonna tell you it because because you know,
- 30:38I just wish I had the chance to like just say hey, how
- 30:41I felt. You know, hey, I don't care what you and my
- 30:48mama. You know, that's that's between right for me. For me to
- 30:53be put in the middle of all of that. I then have to be
- 30:56put in the middle of trying to to know some brothers who you know not
- 31:02necessarily want to know that they got a sister. You know, It's like
- 31:07I've been told you you don't how it is You've got ear just you know,
- 31:11just people telling you me being me. I would like to know if
- 31:21you know, I just was like, you know what, it was not
- 31:23your fault, so I can't you know, there's no like I said,
- 31:26there's no I don't want to deal with them type things. And I'm okay
- 31:33with us just you know, having moments when we come together and we you
- 31:37know, you know, that's why I was glad that I could be you
- 31:40know, friends on Facebook with everyone, so I can at least see their
- 31:44lives through you know that I see my sons. You know, I see
- 31:48you know, different things that Colos is doing, you know that type of
- 31:52thing, you know, So I'm not like missing out so to speak.
- 31:56Right, I made it my business come see you until you could tell you
- 32:01I made it my business. We first started communicating, when y'all first started
- 32:06communicating, we started making plans to come down there, and I want to
- 32:14say it was fourth of July. Yeah, we we packed in that little
- 32:20car and hit the road. And you know, the relationship that I see
- 32:28you and Rico have to me is beautiful because I don't have that, you
- 32:32know with my siblings, my brothers on my father's side, you know,
- 32:38their their mom. They're protecting their mom because I'm a product of his infidelity.
- 32:45And so it wasn't really that they didn't like me, but they didn't
- 32:49want their mom to hurt because of me, and so you know, they
- 32:53tried to shield her feelings or whatever. And I was finally introduced to her
- 33:00face to face, and she found she got to meet Deontay, and Deontay
- 33:06looks more like my dad than I do. And so, you know,
- 33:09what she couldn't see in me, she saw in Deontay. And you know,
- 33:15it's been a lot different since, but still not what I had in
- 33:22mind. You know, coming from a place of adoption, I went into
- 33:28the scenario of it's been thirty one years, they're gonna want to know me.
- 33:32But that's not what happened. And now forty five year old me,
- 33:39I've come to accept what is and I don't try to change, you know,
- 33:47change God's way and God's timing, because maybe God then planted out the
- 33:54way that I thought it should have gone for my protect you know what I'm
- 34:00saying, Like he he he allowed me to meet these people, see who
- 34:05they are, see what they're about, and move on out. Yeah,
- 34:09he was protecting and I told Jah that you know, she has an aunt
- 34:14because on her mother's side, Yeah, okay, that on my side.
- 34:21I told her even when she was young, young, you have an aunt.
- 34:23She stays in Georgia. So the one day we're gonna we're gonna be
- 34:28the she finally met you and Deonte, and Daja has always known about you
- 34:36from the moment we started talking to you on Facebook. They knew about you
- 34:44even if you were to I wish you could see all of Daja's social media.
- 34:50She she goes by Peaches. I love Peaches all right down, girl.
- 35:00She got some big shoes to feel right here, right right, and
- 35:07minister just tell her she she gotta do out it. But but that's her
- 35:09love for your auntie. You know, that is her love for you.
- 35:14You know, people on the street, you know she she does hair.
- 35:21She went to cosmetology school. And so when people act, how can I
- 35:24get in touch with you? Well, this is my number. My name's
- 35:28Peaches, and I'm like, girl, ain't nobody named you Peaches? She
- 35:30said, I named myself Peaches because of my aunt name Peaches. So she's
- 35:36been Peaches as far as long as we've known you. Okay, Well,
- 35:39that's good. I appreciate it. I mean, it makes me feel good
- 35:43to know that, you know, I have some some uh influence, even
- 35:51when I don't think I have influence, I have some. So I know
- 35:55my my nieces on this side, you know, I think I influenced them,
- 36:01but I think I influenced them in a different way. But I mean,
- 36:07and you, I guess you can do that more so when you have
- 36:10you know, when you're in their lives like that, you know, and
- 36:15we probably could have been you know, which, like I said, it's
- 36:19never too late. You can do and we can't do anything about what goes
- 36:22on in the past, right from it and just keep you know, and
- 36:28and make sure that we don't make those same mistakes. That's why my children,
- 36:32you know, that's why I would tell my children, Hey, you're
- 36:36gonna make mistakes, but you own up to them and move on and try
- 36:40to learn from them. Don't don't keep making the same mistakes that you made
- 36:45before, you know. So, So how do you how do kids feel
- 36:49your kids feel about having three actual offs? So? So do I want
- 36:54to hear the story about you know, when they find out that, But
- 37:00they're okay, and they always asking them about y'all. It's just that they're
- 37:06very protective. So absolutely not not that there. They don't want me to
- 37:12get to know you type protective. They just stand back and watch to see
- 37:15how you're how you're gonna treat me to be able to say, hey,
- 37:22I'm cool with them, because they do that. Even with they do that,
- 37:25even with my cousins. I have some cousins who we really I just
- 37:30don't get along with them, right and I grew up with them, but
- 37:35I just don't get along with them. And so, you know, so
- 37:38if they were like mckiva's, especially mckiva has that like she has that discernment,
- 37:45very good discernment, so she can discern if you if you if you're
- 37:50for her or for her family, and if you are not, she's not
- 37:53gonna you can tell she's not gonna deal with you. Malcolm. Of course
- 37:58I'm gonna deal with everybody. Maya tries to stay neutral. So Maya tries
- 38:02to look at it from both sides, like you know, like me and
- 38:07her dad, me and their dad, we don't, I don't I stopped.
- 38:10I just don't talk to him and so we So he reached out the
- 38:15other day and they were like, Mama, why you won't talk to him.
- 38:17I'm like, listen, I'm done with that. I'm not dealing with
- 38:21that. I mean, she said, well he trying to get his life
- 38:23together. Well okay, and I'm just not the one that you need to
- 38:28do get your life together for, you know, do it for you,
- 38:30do it for God, but don't don't bring me into this. And so
- 38:35Maya tries to see both sides, but mckivah like, I understand, Mama,
- 38:37you know that type thing. So it's just it's just they all have
- 38:42their different way of trying to protect either themselves or protect me. But I
- 38:45think they're okay with you know, us getting to know each other and you
- 38:49know, having a having some type of relationship. Like if I said,
- 38:52well, okay, I'm going to I'm going to South Carolina, they gonna
- 38:55want to get in the car and come with me. You know that,
- 38:58it wouldn't be for it would be no, no, we're not going type
- 39:00stuff. So yeah, right, so yeah, but you know this is
- 39:06you know, this is the these are your your your what nieces and nephew.
- 39:10So yeah, and we love them, We love them. Me and
- 39:16Keeper used to talk on the phone quite often. If we wasn't talking,
- 39:21we was texting. I don't know, you know what transpired. And I
- 39:27know once she got older, she started doing her own thing, you know.
- 39:30With that's probably that's that's that's probably true with her. You know,
- 39:36you know, she only the only person she calls every day just aboutance me,
- 39:39so right, you know, if she needs me, she knows where
- 39:45I'm at, so she knows how to get in touch with me and stuff
- 39:49like that. But you know, we're not gonna a loner. So you
- 39:54know, yeah, because Ricos trying to talk to her and she don't say
- 39:59much. Not she's not gonna say a whole lot. She just she's not
- 40:02that girl. She just wants you to sit at her house. Like she's
- 40:06not gonna invite you to her house. In her space. Uh, she's
- 40:10a social butterfly. But but when it comes to her space and her time
- 40:15and all that, she just she's protective of it. So yeah, that's
- 40:22just that kind of comes from me too. That's just my you know,
- 40:27she like she moved into an apartment. She tells you that, hey,
- 40:31don't you better call for you come to the house, include me, you
- 40:36know type thing. So you know you ain't gonna just show up and think
- 40:38she's gonna be hospitable because she's not you. That's how I am. You
- 40:47know, when the first time you come up here, you welcome. After
- 40:50that family, family ask me, She's like, no, Mama, just
- 40:58yeah, yeah. And when she ready to go in her space, that's
- 41:01what she does. She go on her space though. Yeah. So so
- 41:07closing, we enjoyed talking to you too. And closing, I would like
- 41:13to ask you if there's anybody watching at this particular moment that is looking to
- 41:21give their lives the price, what would you what would you have for them?
- 41:25What would you say? So? I would just say that if you,
- 41:30if you, if God is speaking to you now, all you have
- 41:36to do is just tell God that you confess with your mouth and with your
- 41:39heart and you believe that He was raised from the dead and you are saved.
- 41:45I would say, just find you a good a good based up church
- 41:52based home so that you can continue to be with God and to continue to
- 41:58be in uh this. You know, the Holy have the Holy Spirit to
- 42:02keep talking to you. If if if if I am someone who you would
- 42:07like to keep in touch with, you can reach out to my sister in
- 42:13law as well as myself. I don't know. I don't know my Facebook.
- 42:17Uh, I don't know all this stuff because you know, as educator,
- 42:21we don't know those things. But my church is Antioch Baptist Christian Church
- 42:25in Atlanta, Georgia. My pastors Reverend doctor Maxine Wadell, and you can
- 42:31find us at ABCC Eastport dot org. And you just go on that website
- 42:37and you can actually and reach out and tell them that River Holt was the
- 42:42one who introduced you to Christ. So I'm just introducing him. I mean,
- 42:45I cannot save you. I'm just the only one that can introduce you
- 42:49to Christ. So I hope that anything that we've said tonight has helped you
- 42:53to just understand that we all have we all have we all all have a
- 43:00life, and we all have things that we're dealing with, and that the
- 43:02only person who can help you deal with these things is Jesus Christ. Amen.
- 43:08Amen, And if you could, if you don't mind, prayer south
- 43:15Well, okay, yes, sir they having we love history. I love
- 43:21it, Yes, yes, I love I'm a history buff. I am,
- 43:23So you go, we gotta get together one day. I like I
- 43:30like history and science. So I love science and I love history. I
- 43:34love history from the time those ships came over here, even before that,
- 43:39yep. Even when it comes to the Bible. I love researching, researching.
- 43:45I'm a good researcher. So yep, yeah, yep. Well,
- 43:50let us let us pray. Father, God, we thank you right now.
- 43:53We thank you, Lord for this opportunity for a family to come together
- 43:59and discuss things that you wanted us discuss. Lord. For those that are
- 44:02listening, God, we ask Lord that you want to let them understand that
- 44:06we are just regular people who know you and trust you. God. We
- 44:12ask now, Lord that you look over we go and look over little Tania.
- 44:15God. Whatever they're in the need of at this moment, God,
- 44:17we ask that you give them strength, peace and power. We also ask
- 44:22Lord that you protect their homes, protect my nieces and nephew, my niece
- 44:25and nephew. God, protect his mom, protect her mom, God and
- 44:30all their family. God. We ask Lord that whatever they stand in the
- 44:34need of, we ask that you continue to give them all that they need.
- 44:37But Lord, we also ask that you bless their homes God, that
- 44:42their homes may be filled with your glory. We thank you right now for
- 44:45everything that you have done for us tonight, and we thank you for this
- 44:49gathering and we ask these things in your son Jesus Christ name. Amen.
- 44:53Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen. Since I want to thank you for
- 45:00the opportunity to sit down and ask you questions you know about what you do
- 45:07and how you help children that are sometimes not seen in in a way that
- 45:19other children are seeing. So I thank you for that. I thank you
- 45:23for following the path that God laid for you, because whether or not you
- 45:30see it, people are watching and they're going to become closer to God by
- 45:38your leadership. And so we thank you for that. Yes, ma'am,
- 45:43I thank y'all for just allowing me to be peaches. But yes, but
- 45:51just allow me to be me. I appreciate it. So I thank you,
- 45:55sir and ma'am. You're very welcome. I love you. I love

- 46:15know. I will. I will about sending this mushy man to you.
- 46:21Yeah, don't make me cry. Look, he'll be over here. Bawling
- 46:25in a minute, pushing off right now. You know I love you.
- 46:34I love you too. I always support you. You know what I'm saying.
