Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton key Twins' series win over Cardinals
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: The Twins win an exciting weekend series against the Cardinals.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Royce Lewis and Byron Buxton stay scorching hot, Taj Bradley
- 0:09Speaker 1: bounces back with a stronger game than he's been showing
- 0:11Speaker 1: since his return from the injured list, and Ryan Kreidler
- 0:15Speaker 1: played the hero on Sunday. Plus, if I never see
- 0:18Speaker 1: Blaze Jordan again, I will be just fine with that.
- 0:21Speaker 1: But guys, this is Twin City's Territory You're Minnesota Twins
- 0:25Speaker 1: podcast on the File Territory Network. Zach Pierce, editor of
- 0:28Speaker 1: The Athletic, joined as always by Dan Hayes, The Athletics,
- 0:32Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins beat writer, and Tyler Duffy, former Minnesota Twins pitcher.
- 0:36Speaker 1: It was maybe not the most successful series of the
- 0:39Speaker 1: weekend or of the year. Excuse me, but I think
- 0:41Speaker 1: the most entertaining one. The Twins with a four times
- 0:44Speaker 1: coming back on Friday Night to win nine to eight,
- 0:47Speaker 1: almost came back on Saturday, brought the tying run the
- 0:50Speaker 1: plate in the ninth inning but couldn't get it done.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And then Sunday, the late substitution of Ryan Kreidler into
- 0:56Speaker 1: the game proved to be very key, as he scored
- 0:59Speaker 1: the tying knocked in the winning run, and made a
- 1:02Speaker 1: huge play to start off the ninth inning to get
- 1:04Speaker 1: an out. So, Dan, have you got your breath yet
- 1:07Speaker 1: from a long weekend?
- 1:10Speaker 2: No, I am all Royce Lewis all the time. At
- 1:13Speaker 2: this point, I am. You know, we are going to
- 1:17Speaker 2: go ahead and champion. What he's doing is he's coming
- 1:21Speaker 2: back and this team is feeling it. Byron Buckson was
- 1:24Speaker 2: already doing it, putting up this amazing season, and now
- 1:28Speaker 2: he's got a guy to help him carry some of
- 1:31Speaker 2: the weight. And Royce Lewis is handling it all. He's
- 1:35Speaker 2: not just hitting, he's hitting in the clutch. He's handling
- 1:38Speaker 2: first base very well. But I think even more important
- 1:42Speaker 2: is he's saying the right things and he is just
- 1:46Speaker 2: focused and I kind of like a renewed lease on life.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Like he got to go to the miners. Royce would
- 1:52Speaker 2: play a sandlot game and get enjoyment out of it. Right,
- 1:57Speaker 2: he loves baseball that much, but he knows the majors
- 2:00Speaker 2: is great. A couple of years ago when he came
- 2:02Speaker 2: up for the first time was in twenty twenty two, Duff.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It's when Carlos broke his finger. They thought that Carlos
- 2:09Speaker 2: broke his finger, and Royce came up and it's stuck
- 2:12Speaker 2: with me ever since. Then. Royce said, we're talking to
- 2:15Speaker 2: him in Oakland right before he got sent back down.
- 2:18Speaker 2: He's like, this is the greatest. It sounded like a
- 2:20Speaker 2: kid who had been at Summer. But he's talking about
- 2:24Speaker 2: crushing the buffet or the postgame spreads and how they
- 2:29Speaker 2: have steaks and like all this great food. Like Royce
- 2:32Speaker 2: loves being the majors and he has shown it right
- 2:34Speaker 2: now and it's infectious, and I think this team can
- 2:37Speaker 2: get a lot of mileage out of it with the
- 2:39Speaker 2: way he's hitten, with the way he's playing defensive first
- 2:42Speaker 2: and again just you know, being a good presence.
- 2:46Speaker 1: He's hit safely in seven of eight games since his
- 2:49Speaker 1: return to the lineup on June sixth, including the last
- 2:52Speaker 1: seven in a row. He was five for ten over
- 2:55Speaker 1: the weekend against the Cardinals with two home runs, including
- 3:00Speaker 1: the game tire on Friday night?
- 3:03Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 3:03Speaker 3: Dan?
- 3:03Speaker 2: Correct?
- 3:04Speaker 1: To make it eight eight late? That launched a rocket celebration,
- 3:08Speaker 1: And he had you mentioned some of his comments. Dan,
- 3:11Speaker 1: He had a quote after I'm not sure when this
- 3:15Speaker 1: was over the weekend. But Sunday, Yeah, this is Sunday.
- 3:18Speaker 1: This is in Dan's latest story on The Athletic But
- 3:20Speaker 1: he said, I'm just thinking a lot. I go home,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and I'm really tired right now because it's such a
- 3:23Speaker 1: mental thing. It's not a secondhand. I have to remember
- 3:25Speaker 1: to cut some relays, get by the mound and little
- 3:28Speaker 1: things like that. I'm still working in drying my bast
- 3:30Speaker 1: but I'm here for whatever it takes to win. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: it just reminded me so much, Tyler, of what you
- 3:34Speaker 1: said on Friday's show about how maybe it's good for
- 3:37Speaker 1: him to have something else to think about besides just
- 3:39Speaker 1: hitting the ball.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's one that he's preoccupied. You know, he was
- 3:44Speaker 4: so wrapped up in the hitting, you know, to where
- 3:47Speaker 4: it started to spill over into his defense at third.
- 3:50Speaker 3: You know, he wasn't learning anything new.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It was simply Royce, you got to figure this out
- 3:55Speaker 4: kind of thing, and sometimes you don't have the answer.
- 3:58Speaker 4: And now it's you know, go to triple A. All right,
- 4:01Speaker 4: he's hitting the ball. Get him up here. Hey, now
- 4:03Speaker 4: you're going to play first base crash course with Mornie,
- 4:06Speaker 4: you know, pregame, you know, before a weekend series, and
- 4:09Speaker 4: it's there's a lot being thrown at him. But to
- 4:12Speaker 4: his credit, you know, the superstar potential he has, he's
- 4:16Speaker 4: doing it in stride and not blinking. You know, he's
- 4:19Speaker 4: tearing the cover off the ball. He's picking plays to
- 4:21Speaker 4: finish games. You know Kreidler's great play yesterday. You know,
- 4:25Speaker 4: he's he's doing everything that a pick like Royce and
- 4:30Speaker 4: a player like Royce should be doing. And it says
- 4:32Speaker 4: all that anybody can ask for. And you know who's
- 4:35Speaker 4: who's not to say he ends up playing first base
- 4:37Speaker 4: for the next fifteen years. You know, you never know
- 4:39Speaker 4: this how things happen. You know, injuries, whatever it may be,
- 4:43Speaker 4: call for you to do something, and sometimes it just sticks.
- 4:46Speaker 4: And you know it's so far, so good. You know,
- 4:49Speaker 4: we got to see how it goes continuing. But you
- 4:52Speaker 4: know what, five hits on the weekend and some good
- 4:54Speaker 4: plays like that, that's all you can ask for.
- 4:57Speaker 2: There was there was one example when I just want
- 4:59Speaker 2: to bring it up real quick. It was either Saturday
- 5:01Speaker 2: night or Friday night, but Royce was having an engaged
- 5:04Speaker 2: conversation with the umpire and it was like every pitch
- 5:08Speaker 2: you see him turn his head and start talking again,
- 5:11Speaker 2: and I mean, the pitch is hit, the go up
- 5:12Speaker 2: and Royce is already well into a conversation with him,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and I'm like, Okay, I gotta find out what this is.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So I go up totally Sunday's game and ask and
- 5:20Speaker 2: it was the most mundane conversation ever. I don't it
- 5:23Speaker 2: was so boring. I don't even remember. But he was
- 5:25Speaker 2: like engaged and they were like going back and forth.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And then he you know, he talked to the umpire
- 5:29Speaker 2: yesterday about the bang bang play in the ninth, just
- 5:33Speaker 2: talking to him and he told him, I don't even
- 5:36Speaker 2: know if we're gonna get this because it was bang bang, Like,
- 5:39Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. It's just constant conversation. It's definitely a
- 5:43Speaker 2: good distraction. He's a he's a boisterous, gregarious guy, and
- 5:47Speaker 2: at third base you're on your own and you're not
- 5:49Speaker 2: talking anybody. Maybe you talk to the third base coach
- 5:51Speaker 2: once in a while, yeah, maybe you get the runner
- 5:53Speaker 2: once in a while. There's constant action at first base.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So I think this, combined with just trying to learn
- 5:59Speaker 2: the nuances first base, really is a good thing for
- 6:02Speaker 2: him and puts it out of his mind. He can
- 6:05Speaker 2: go out there and not worry about you know, at
- 6:08Speaker 2: bats he the number is overall it's three seventy nine,
- 6:11Speaker 2: four twenty four, seven fifty nine in June, but the
- 6:14Speaker 2: most important number. And by the way, Zach, you mentioned
- 6:16Speaker 2: the game tying homer on Thursday, also the game time
- 6:19Speaker 2: bases loaded single on Sunday. Yeah, four strikeouts and thirty
- 6:24Speaker 2: three played appearances right now, And you know between that
- 6:28Speaker 2: end of the eye el Ston and when he went
- 6:30Speaker 2: back down it was thirty four percent strikeout rate. So
- 6:34Speaker 2: now you know, I'm not a math whiz, but four
- 6:36Speaker 2: into thirty four is pretty damn or four into thirty
- 6:39Speaker 2: three is pretty damn good. It's like twelve and a
- 6:41Speaker 2: half percent or something like that. He's he's feeling it,
- 6:45Speaker 2: and they're gonna benefit from him feeling it because now
- 6:49Speaker 2: Byron Buckston has someone else to help carry that load.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I feel like we talk about Buckston on every show
- 6:55Speaker 1: with good reason, but we have to mention eight for
- 6:59Speaker 1: twelve over the week. And you see the stats there
- 7:01Speaker 1: on the bottom if you're watching on YouTube, but him
- 7:03Speaker 1: and Lewis combined thirteen for twenty two, four homers seven
- 7:07Speaker 1: RBI two homers each. Buckston now with twenty two alone
- 7:11Speaker 1: in third place in the BIGS, behind Kyle Schwarber and
- 7:13Speaker 1: Jordan Olivarez. You both have twenty four if you've got
- 7:17Speaker 1: We talked about this kind of teeing up the show
- 7:19Speaker 1: before we hit record guys. But you have two guys
- 7:23Speaker 1: in your lineup who are hitting like that, it makes
- 7:25Speaker 1: things easier for everyone else. And you can see it
- 7:27Speaker 1: in the numbers from the weekend. I mean, Cody Clemens
- 7:30Speaker 1: had four hits, Josh Bell had three hits, and night
- 7:32Speaker 1: at bats like there was there are opportunities that felt
- 7:35Speaker 1: like for other hitters with pitchers knowing those guys were
- 7:39Speaker 1: looming near in the near future in the lineup.
- 7:44Speaker 2: With Ryan Kreidler said it after the game yesterday, and
- 7:48Speaker 2: he said he knew buck was on deck when he
- 7:51Speaker 2: came up, and that he was going to get a
- 7:53Speaker 2: pitch because of Buckston's presence, and he worked as a bat,
- 7:57Speaker 2: he knew what he was looking for. He worked at
- 7:59Speaker 2: worked it, got the fastball, drove it into the gap
- 8:02Speaker 2: for you know, a steamroller double, and and he was
- 8:05Speaker 2: fired up when he got there, like it was like
- 8:07Speaker 2: a seven to eight pitch a bat and he just
- 8:10Speaker 2: kept he ended up getting a slider and he punished it.
- 8:13Speaker 2: But he was looking, looking, looking, and just kind of
- 8:16Speaker 2: knew what to do with the fastballs until he got
- 8:18Speaker 2: a fat pitch. That's that's, you know, a nice byproduct
- 8:24Speaker 2: of knowing that one of the best hitters in the
- 8:26Speaker 2: game is right behind you. But there is really good
- 8:30Speaker 2: pressure from the bottom of the lineup knowing that bucks
- 8:32Speaker 2: is up there because Luke Keishall on May two, he
- 8:36Speaker 2: had a five thirty one ops. He over the last month,
- 8:40Speaker 2: He's still not hitting for a lot of power. Average
- 8:43Speaker 2: still is like too eighty ish, but he's getting on base.
- 8:46Speaker 2: He's got a three seventy seven on base in the
- 8:49Speaker 2: usually batting eighth or ninth right now. So when the
- 8:52Speaker 2: lineup turns over, Buckson usually has a guy on in
- 8:55Speaker 2: front of him. Keyshall like finally has figured out how
- 8:58Speaker 2: to get going hit the home r and on Saturday
- 9:01Speaker 2: yesterday drew the one out walk to start the tye
- 9:05Speaker 2: and rally scored on. I can't remember Kreidler single or Buckston's.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I mean it was Buckston and Lewis with the singles
- 9:12Speaker 2: in the eighth to tie it. But then Keishall started
- 9:16Speaker 2: the ninth inning or the eighth inning game winning rally.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Sorry I'm getting my innings messed up, but it was
- 9:20Speaker 2: the seventh and the eighth. Yeah, there were I mean, honestly,
- 9:25Speaker 2: there were so many comebacks. Keishall had the one out
- 9:27Speaker 2: RBI double or the one out double that led to
- 9:30Speaker 2: the Kreidler double, and like when you have those guys,
- 9:34Speaker 2: they're benefiting and putting pressure on. And so Buckston's coming
- 9:37Speaker 2: up with guys on and you know, now Lewis is there.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They really just needed a run producer. Josh Bell's done
- 9:43Speaker 2: a fine job, but he's streaky and Lewis is streaky.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It's not saying that Louis isn't streaky, but Lewis just
- 9:51Speaker 2: being there to add some thump. They they've desperately need
- 9:53Speaker 2: someone else to step up and be a middle of
- 9:55Speaker 2: the order bat. And it all connects. This team is
- 9:59Speaker 2: eighth in the league and run out of all of baseball,
- 10:02Speaker 2: so the offense really hasn't been the issue. But imagine
- 10:06Speaker 2: this team was his eighth and runs in Royce Lewis
- 10:08Speaker 2: until last week has been not good. So what do
- 10:11Speaker 2: they do with Royce Lewis If he can sustain this?
- 10:14Speaker 2: I think that's really reason for optimism for the offense.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yeah, small sample size for Royce since his return, but
- 10:22Speaker 1: it really couldn't be much better of a sample given
- 10:26Speaker 1: where he was at and where he's at now. Obviously,
- 10:29Speaker 1: we'll see if he can keep it up. I hadn't
- 10:31Speaker 1: paid much attention to the Cardinals prior to this weekend,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'll be honest, But a lot of fun players on
- 10:37Speaker 1: that team. Yeah, and Blaize Jordan, who made his major
- 10:41Speaker 1: league debut this weekend probably chief among them. Had five hits,
- 10:45Speaker 1: a homer, a triple was kind of a thorn in
- 10:47Speaker 1: the side. He turned a double unassisted double play on
- 10:50Speaker 1: defense too. Just pretty lights out first three games of
- 10:54Speaker 1: a career for that guy.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he had a nice little weekend for himself.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Not bad.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And I mean you throw Jordan Walker, Jordan Walker, Alec Purlson,
- 11:02Speaker 2: that's a good three four man. They can hit. They
- 11:05Speaker 2: they're similar to the Twins where it's like pitching's okay,
- 11:08Speaker 2: bullpen is. It's got some questions, but they can hit
- 11:13Speaker 2: and they do some things.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Burlson hit that ball way way back to right field too.
- 11:19Speaker 3: He hit one or two home runs, I can't remember.
- 11:22Speaker 1: You know, he got a hold of one bird listened
- 11:25Speaker 1: to Walker had that destruction of the baseball JJ Webering.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Walker's home run off of off Justin Lawrence, like
- 11:34Speaker 2: somebody Derek Gold of balls was touched. Yeah, it hit
- 11:39Speaker 2: the like it hit the face of the second deck
- 11:42Speaker 2: and I wanted the Richter scale reading because it had
- 11:45Speaker 2: to shake the building. It was four fifty four. It
- 11:48Speaker 2: got out in about three seconds. I mean it like
- 11:52Speaker 2: that was an impressive seventh inning for them against the dude.
- 11:55Speaker 4: I get worried times the ball goes up there because
- 11:58Speaker 4: that's where Nelson hit off of me after fake he
- 12:02Speaker 4: like fake injured his wrists and so I threw another
- 12:05Speaker 4: fastball and he hit one up there, And so anytime
- 12:07Speaker 4: a ball goes up.
- 12:08Speaker 3: There, I'm like, just don't talk about that one.
- 12:10Speaker 1: That's all.
- 12:13Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Well that concludes the Saint Louis Cardinals portion of this podcast.
- 12:17Speaker 1: If you like what you hear when we're talking twins,
- 12:19Speaker 1: we would love it if you would subscribe and whatever
- 12:22Speaker 1: your preferred method of viewing or listening is. If it's YouTube,
- 12:26Speaker 1: there's a QR code on the screen right now and
- 12:28Speaker 1: make it super easy for you to join along. But
- 12:32Speaker 1: for now, we'll move on. As you guys know, I
- 12:37Speaker 1: was very recently offered tickets to a Minnesota that's the
- 12:44Speaker 1: home opener, I should say, the home opener. Have a
- 12:48Speaker 1: little trouble there. That's what I wanted on the screen there.
- 12:50Speaker 1: We go by none other than TC Bear himself at
- 12:55Speaker 1: the Minneapolis Airport. We were not able to make it, unfortunately,
- 12:57Speaker 1: but I am thus in the market for more tickets,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and there's no better place than seat geek. Dam. I
- 13:03Speaker 1: know you're looking for some tickets on Sea geek right
- 13:05Speaker 1: now too.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I know, but I don't get that code. The territory
- 13:08Speaker 2: you don't get.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You don't get the code.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Only but MLB Baseball game correct, it is, it is,
- 13:16Speaker 2: But our code, the ten percent off code is for
- 13:18Speaker 2: baseball games only. You're still allowed to talk about it.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Go ahead and talk about it.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yeah, buy them and then trade them for the tickets
- 13:26Speaker 3: you need.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You're I'm trying to go to England Croatia on Wednesday
- 13:32Speaker 2: at Jerry World at and T Stadium is hosting the
- 13:34Speaker 2: World Cup. We have an awkward day off on Wednesday
- 13:38Speaker 2: for the Twins where like middle of the series that
- 13:41Speaker 2: never happened. Did you ever even have that happen once
- 13:43Speaker 2: where playing a series and there's all day off other
- 13:46Speaker 2: than the opening day series.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah, you have the open it's a weird one.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But we're off Wednesday because the World Cup is next
- 13:54Speaker 2: door to Globe Life Park. You know, the Rangers and
- 13:58Speaker 2: Cowboys play right next each other, and England Croatia, which
- 14:02Speaker 2: in that pool is supposed to be the best game.
- 14:05Speaker 2: But tickets are going for like fourteen hundred. It's called
- 14:08Speaker 2: a group down. Oh sorry, my bad, sorry Zach, thank you,
- 14:12Speaker 2: soccer residents, soccer football expert ball group. It's like fourteen
- 14:18Speaker 2: hundred bucks right now to go to that. So if
- 14:20Speaker 2: I had the territory ten code, it'd be like, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 2: twelve sixty, and that'd be so much more manageable. But
- 14:31Speaker 2: I alas, it's not a baseball game and can't use
- 14:34Speaker 2: the code for our code at least.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Well, stay tuned to see whether Dan decides to spend
- 14:40Speaker 1: fourteen hundred dollars on a World Cup ticket, but.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Not a chance.
- 14:44Speaker 1: For the rest of you, you get a ten percent
- 14:47Speaker 1: off deal on MLB tickets. You can obviously use seageek

- 15:03Speaker 1: and more. Dan, I know you're a big concert guy,
- 15:05Speaker 1: of course, but we're here today to talk about MLB.
- 15:08Speaker 1: We've got a code at the bottom of the screen

- 15:41Speaker 1: That's what I'm gonna use when it's time to find
- 15:44Speaker 1: those Twins tickets. And then the code's there again on
- 15:47Speaker 1: the screen for you. It is code Territory ten for
- 15:49Speaker 1: ten percent off your next set of MLB tickets at

- 16:03Speaker 1: it later. Thank you, seek Geek.
- 16:10Speaker 2: On super Radio Friendly. You're man. You should have done radio.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm getting better. I know you were doing.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I dabbled back.
- 16:20Speaker 3: In the day, all of us.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Uh, it wasn't all great this weekend for the Twins.
- 16:26Speaker 1: The bullpen continues to be a major thorn in the
- 16:29Speaker 1: side at a ten eight oh e r A over
- 16:32Speaker 1: the weekend and still one of the one of the
- 16:34Speaker 1: worst in the league. But Taj Bradley had a nice day,
- 16:39Speaker 1: so we'll focus on that. I think we've talked about
- 16:41Speaker 1: the bullpen also just about every show. But uh, he
- 16:45Speaker 1: wasn't back to the early season top four. Maybe that
- 16:49Speaker 1: he was in Dan. But he looked a lot better
- 16:51Speaker 1: in Sunday's win than he has since returning from the IL.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Definitely a huge difference in body language. He was enjoying
- 16:59Speaker 2: himself out there. He felt much better. Look there was
- 17:05Speaker 2: Burlson hit a get me over curveball first pitch for
- 17:07Speaker 2: a home run. You know, guys, I'm guessing that happens
- 17:11Speaker 2: a lot where a guy, if you're looking to get
- 17:13Speaker 2: that first strike, you try to steal a curveball in
- 17:15Speaker 2: there sometimes and you just put it in the zone
- 17:18Speaker 2: and he hit it. The one spot where they got
- 17:21Speaker 2: Bradley was he lost his command very briefly and walked
- 17:26Speaker 2: batter I think on five pitches, and then left a
- 17:30Speaker 2: fastball in a hitter's zone and that was I can't
- 17:34Speaker 2: remember if that was Walker who hit that one, but
- 17:37Speaker 2: he left a fastball in the zone and it got
- 17:40Speaker 2: hit for a two run homer. That one little sequence
- 17:43Speaker 2: right there, the walk and the home run, it was
- 17:46Speaker 2: maybe ten pitches, was the only real downside he had.
- 17:49Speaker 2: He left with two runners on Bonda, couldn't get the inherited,
- 17:55Speaker 2: couldn't strand all the inherited runners. There was just this
- 17:57Speaker 2: flukish space hit whereon it through a sweeper about I
- 18:01Speaker 2: don't know, seven inches off the plate and left he
- 18:04Speaker 2: blooped it in the left field. So Bradley gave up
- 18:07Speaker 2: four runs. But really, I mean like he was throwing strikes.
- 18:11Speaker 2: He was getting swings and misses. All his secondary velocities
- 18:15Speaker 2: were up. He was commanding, and he recalled the start
- 18:18Speaker 2: in Detroit, there was nothing even remotely close to the
- 18:21Speaker 2: zone he threw to the backstop. He looked like Charlie
- 18:24Speaker 2: Sheen preglasses in Major League in Detroit, and it's because
- 18:30Speaker 2: the ball was wet like and doveew. We've talked about
- 18:32Speaker 2: that bazillion times, but like Bradley refused to make excuses
- 18:36Speaker 2: for himself after Detroit even though everybody couldn't grip the ball,
- 18:40Speaker 2: And to me, that said a lot. Yeah, I loved
- 18:43Speaker 2: I actually loved hearing that from Bradley. He was like, Hey,
- 18:47Speaker 2: he's just being accountable. I should have been better, I
- 18:49Speaker 2: should have been able to pitch around that, and he
- 18:52Speaker 2: really went like he's always been hard at work, but
- 18:55Speaker 2: he and Pete Mackie found something this week and he
- 18:59Speaker 2: just he just looked so different. And that's a great
- 19:01Speaker 2: sign for them. Because I ran the stats in the story.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I think the Twins starting staff in nineteen games before
- 19:10Speaker 2: this was like three and nine with the six ninety
- 19:13Speaker 2: two e er in between the Boston series when they
- 19:18Speaker 2: swept and going into yesterday's finale, So they need some rotation.
- 19:23Speaker 2: They need more than Joe Ryan to go six or
- 19:26Speaker 2: sevilities and TODs. Bradley I think is well on the
- 19:30Speaker 2: road to kind of recovery there on that.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought he looked good.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Yeah, like you said, there's a couple of pitches here there,
- 19:38Speaker 4: but it's it's getting sharper. You know, who knows how
- 19:41Speaker 4: he really felt when he got activated. You know, he
- 19:43Speaker 4: probably felt good.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Was that good enough or not?
- 19:46Speaker 4: Who knows, but you know, right also kind of in
- 19:48Speaker 4: a spot where they needed him back, and so they're
- 19:51Speaker 4: they're not gonna they're not gonna convince him not to
- 19:54Speaker 4: come back, you know. But at the same time as
- 19:57Speaker 4: stuff looks great, like, I don't think there's any injury
- 20:00Speaker 4: issue whatsoever. I think it's just getting into game speed,
- 20:03Speaker 4: you know, it is, it's different, you know, asked Royce.
- 20:05Speaker 4: He was just in Triple A and back to the
- 20:07Speaker 4: big leagues. Like it's just a slower game. You go
- 20:09Speaker 4: on those rehab outings and you get back under the lights.
- 20:11Speaker 4: It's a little different and takes everybody the second to adjust.
- 20:15Speaker 4: And you know he's I mean, he's starting ninety eight
- 20:17Speaker 4: with great off speed. So now it's just settling in
- 20:20Speaker 4: and do what you did to start the year.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The bullpen I just got done saying they were not
- 20:30Speaker 1: good statistically, they weren't, but most of that came on
- 20:33Speaker 1: Friday and then and then Lawrence is outing on Saturday,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but Travis Adams went two and a third on Saturday,
- 20:40Speaker 1: only allowed one earned run, and then two and a
- 20:44Speaker 1: third score listenings on Sunday Dan which really in both
- 20:48Speaker 1: cases helped them have a chance in both of those games.
- 20:51Speaker 1: They did not end up winning on Saturday, but it's
- 20:53Speaker 1: it's a big part of the reason they got back
- 20:55Speaker 1: in and on Sunday.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Well, Look, it's the part that I like about the
- 21:00Speaker 2: Twins that I've seen their bullpen is I feel like
- 21:03Speaker 2: if they get to the back end now that there
- 21:06Speaker 2: is stability there and we're talking about if you can
- 21:09Speaker 2: access the Bonda Morris and Joandris Gomez part, the problem
- 21:15Speaker 2: is they just don't have the depth. I think six seven,
- 21:19Speaker 2: eight has been the sixth, seventh, and eighth guys has
- 21:21Speaker 2: been sort of a revolving door, like you can see
- 21:23Speaker 2: it with Rogers, where when he comes in, especially when
- 21:27Speaker 2: he gets the lefty portion of lineup, he can get out.
- 21:30Speaker 2: He's struggled against righty's, but there's been some reasons that
- 21:33Speaker 2: he's been facing righties. It's because the defense is given
- 21:36Speaker 2: away outs and screwing up matchups for the team. Eric
- 21:39Speaker 2: Orsey's had his moments, but like he needs to be
- 21:42Speaker 2: more consistent. But you can see some there there if
- 21:46Speaker 2: you will. I think if he was like the sixth
- 21:48Speaker 2: or seventh guy in the bullpen right now and you
- 21:50Speaker 2: were protecting him a little bit, he would be like
- 21:54Speaker 2: having a really promising year and he's getting some higher
- 21:56Speaker 2: leverage stuff than for his experience level. This is guy
- 22:00Speaker 2: that barely had pitched in the majors before this year.
- 22:03Speaker 2: If you could have eased him in, he's going to
- 22:05Speaker 2: get some some moments and you know, be like the
- 22:10Speaker 2: way they did it with Morrise early on. They eased
- 22:12Speaker 2: him in and didn't just throw him into the fire.
- 22:15Speaker 2: And now Morris can come in and shut down, like
- 22:17Speaker 2: he struck out three of the four batters he faced
- 22:19Speaker 2: on Sunday. Jo Anders Gomez has a one six eight
- 22:22Speaker 2: ERA and five strikeouts, but even more, you can see
- 22:26Speaker 2: the confidence there because he got the Ryan Craydler play,
- 22:28Speaker 2: which was amazing to start the ninth inning. But the
- 22:30Speaker 2: next guy struck out and like he was fired up,
- 22:33Speaker 2: and you can tell he's starting to get that belief
- 22:36Speaker 2: and Bonda over his last sixteen innings has a point
- 22:39Speaker 2: six e RA. He's the guy that they traded, they acquired.
- 22:43Speaker 2: If you can access those three, you really have a
- 22:46Speaker 2: chance to close out games. It's when you're with the
- 22:49Speaker 2: and currently they're actually nine guys because Paradis is even
- 22:53Speaker 2: though he's starting right now tonight, he is ticked. Sorry,
- 22:57Speaker 2: he is a reliever technically, but justin Lawrence got those
- 23:01Speaker 2: first two batters on Saturday and then gave up four
- 23:04Speaker 2: straight hits and two of them were bombs, and you
- 23:07Speaker 2: know they're they're going to have a revolving door from six, seven,
- 23:11Speaker 2: eight for right now. They just don't have the depth
- 23:13Speaker 2: and that's where a lot of the issues have come.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And so you get Travis Adams forced into a spot
- 23:18Speaker 2: where he's still a rookie, and man, you'd love him
- 23:21Speaker 2: to come in with a clean inning, but he comes
- 23:23Speaker 2: in with two guys and gives up the three run bomb.
- 23:26Speaker 2: It's just that inconsistency. But you know, when they're in
- 23:29Speaker 2: spots where they were Shelton has a clear path to
- 23:32Speaker 2: the last three innings they can get out, so they
- 23:35Speaker 2: can get close out games. It's just there's not enough
- 23:39Speaker 2: depth there. It's the part where you wish they'd built
- 23:41Speaker 2: out more in the off season. They pieced it together
- 23:44Speaker 2: and they went with Andrew Chaffin and Liam Hendricks hoping
- 23:48Speaker 2: they could get something now of that, and neither of
- 23:50Speaker 2: those guys even made the opening day roster. If there
- 23:52Speaker 2: have been a few more additions in the bullpen, which
- 23:55Speaker 2: I understand why they didn't do it. They were cash strapped,
- 23:58Speaker 2: not sure where they were going, but even one more
- 24:01Speaker 2: guy right now, this team probably is, you know, five
- 24:05Speaker 2: or six games better easily, maybe more than that. It's
- 24:09Speaker 2: it's been. It's a challenge, and you feel for the
- 24:12Speaker 2: coaching staff because they're trying to do what they can
- 24:14Speaker 2: with it. But if it's back to back days, you
- 24:17Speaker 2: just can't keep running Bonda Morris Gomez out like you
- 24:22Speaker 2: can do it two days in a row, but you
- 24:23Speaker 2: can't do it three or five. Yeah, you don't want
- 24:28Speaker 2: to blow those guys out. They can't. Nobody makes a
- 24:30Speaker 2: hundred appearances, you know, and you really don't want guys
- 24:33Speaker 2: even making eighty appearances. It's rare when you see pitchers
- 24:36Speaker 2: with eighty appearances. Now it's more like sixty five over
- 24:39Speaker 2: the course of one hundred and sixty two games. So
- 24:41Speaker 2: you got to take care of your guys. The Twins
- 24:43Speaker 2: just need more guys.

- 26:02Speaker 1: This weekend in Saint Paul with the Triple A Saints,
- 26:06Speaker 1: Kaylan Culpeper, shortstop, one of the Twins top prospects, was
- 26:10Speaker 1: pulled out of the game, and it sent social media
- 26:14Speaker 1: a fire dan with speculation that he was about to
- 26:18Speaker 1: be called up to the majors, something fans have been
- 26:21Speaker 1: clamoring for most of the season. Dan, please disappoint all
- 26:25Speaker 1: of us? What is up with Kayln Culpepper?
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, if you'll notice, if you'll notice that none of
- 26:32Speaker 2: the beat writers tweeted that out that Caln Culpeper was
- 26:36Speaker 2: on the way up, because I didn't notice. Why? Why?
- 26:41Speaker 2: If so? The Twins game ended at like four o'clock
- 26:44Speaker 2: on Saturday, Right, if kln Culpeper was gonna be in
- 26:47Speaker 2: the majors on Sunday, why would the Saints have started
- 26:51Speaker 2: him in a game that ended three hours after the Twins.
- 26:55Speaker 2: He would be on a He's in Toledo, so he
- 26:57Speaker 2: would be in a car on the way to Detroit
- 27:00Speaker 2: and then catching a flight to Minnesota.
- 27:02Speaker 1: You gotta do this, like the old Brian Windors thing.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Why why why why.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I'll tell you why, because he was not anyways. Instead,
- 27:13Speaker 2: in sort of a kick in the pants to Twins fans,
- 27:16Speaker 2: he he left with the glute injury. Is a sore
- 27:20Speaker 2: gluteus maximus is going to be yes, it's a So
- 27:26Speaker 2: he's gonna be sidelined for a couple of days. But
- 27:28Speaker 2: I get why Twins fans are excited. The relay throw
- 27:31Speaker 2: he made on Friday night to cut down the time
- 27:34Speaker 2: run at the plate with one out in the ninth
- 27:36Speaker 2: inning in a one run game was amazing. It was
- 27:39Speaker 2: just a extend, like just outstanding throw and and the
- 27:44Speaker 2: timing was impeccable. All right, It wasn't even an easy
- 27:47Speaker 2: catch on the relay from the outfield. So like, the
- 27:51Speaker 2: defense is getting there and the Twins the biggest question
- 27:54Speaker 2: they had with Kennic Culpepper was the defense. And what's
- 27:57Speaker 2: the Twins' biggest issue right now, shortstop defense. So they
- 28:01Speaker 2: want him here, I understand. And Kalen Culpepper is hitting
- 28:04Speaker 2: the crap out of the ball triple a by the way,
- 28:06Speaker 2: everybody is hitting the crap out of the ball triple A.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It's just a difference in levels right now, there's but
- 28:14Speaker 2: there's plenty of reason for excitement. I do think he
- 28:16Speaker 2: is very close to coming up, but I still think
- 28:20Speaker 2: there's some time here. And so anyways, he's sidelined. He's
- 28:24Speaker 2: day to day right now. It's probably down for a
- 28:26Speaker 2: couple of days, it sounds like, and will be uh
- 28:31Speaker 2: you know, it's it's certainly disappointed for Twins fans, but
- 28:33Speaker 2: he he'll be here soon, that's my prediction.
- 28:38Speaker 1: All right, sounds good, But for now they seem set
- 28:40Speaker 1: at shortstop with Ryan Kridler if he can just play
- 28:43Speaker 1: like that every single game, right.
- 28:47Speaker 2: So yeah, after the game on Sunday Day, designated Orlando
- 28:50Speaker 2: Orcia for assignment, which is a tough spot because OURCA
- 28:55Speaker 2: in limited play has actually hit well and looked good
- 28:58Speaker 2: out there, and he's moved around, but he's sort of
- 29:03Speaker 2: like this is a it's a redundant spot right now.
- 29:05Speaker 2: With Royce being at first base and looking like he's
- 29:10Speaker 2: going to be there for a bit, Cody Clemens is
- 29:12Speaker 2: not playing first base, which means Cody Clemens goes to
- 29:15Speaker 2: the outfield more often, which frees up Ryan Kreidler, because
- 29:19Speaker 2: Ryan Kreidler had been sort of the Buckston backup at
- 29:22Speaker 2: center field and you know, playing a lot in the outfield.
- 29:26Speaker 2: But if you know now, Preidler can be shortstop when
- 29:29Speaker 2: you have Arcia and Tristan Gray and Ryan Kreidler. Gray
- 29:35Speaker 2: is left handed, so he's gonna he hits left handed,
- 29:38Speaker 2: so he's gonna, you know, still be used in spots.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But I think, honestly, if the Twins are looking to
- 29:46Speaker 2: shore this up, they're minus sixteen defensive runs saved the
- 29:49Speaker 2: shortstop right now. That is twelve worse than the next
- 29:52Speaker 2: best team, the next worst team. Ryan or Tristan Gray
- 29:57Speaker 2: made his sixth there in twenty one games yesterday. Look,
- 30:00Speaker 2: he's a good utility player, and he can hit, and
- 30:03Speaker 2: he's had some big hits for them. But Kreidler is
- 30:06Speaker 2: the best defensive short stuff they have on the team.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And I know they've been protecting Kreidler, who actually did
- 30:12Speaker 2: some changes with this swing. He is not getting the
- 30:15Speaker 2: toughest right handed matchups. He is an eight hundred ohps.
- 30:19Speaker 2: He will lose some of that bat, but I think
- 30:22Speaker 2: they can handle losing that bat if the tradeoff is
- 30:26Speaker 2: sure handed defense up the middle, and until Calen Coulpepper
- 30:29Speaker 2: gets here. You gotta protect your pitchers. You got to
- 30:32Speaker 2: take care of your pitchers. And so you know, I
- 30:34Speaker 2: don't know for a fact that Ryan Kriydler is going
- 30:37Speaker 2: to get more short stop playing time, but I think
- 30:39Speaker 2: he should because his defense is very sound. We saw
- 30:42Speaker 2: then the play in the ninth inning. Nobody else is
- 30:46Speaker 2: on the team is getting that ball that he the
- 30:48Speaker 2: leadoff is for me. Hot shot up the middle, nice
- 30:51Speaker 2: sliding play. He got up and fired a perfect one
- 30:54Speaker 2: hopper and Royce Lewis with a great pick on the
- 30:57Speaker 2: other end to make that play. And it took replay
- 31:00Speaker 2: to get the overturn, but.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It looked a little funny, but he got it done.
- 31:04Speaker 2: He made the pick.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Yeah, as a first basement, Yes, it's all the matters,
- 31:11Speaker 1: that's all the matters.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Did it Bobble? I honestly didn't see No, they did not.
- 31:16Speaker 1: It just wasn't the most graceful looking pick. But it
- 31:20Speaker 1: doesn't matter.
- 31:21Speaker 4: A third baseman playing sorry shortstop that's been playing third
- 31:24Speaker 4: playing first.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Well, however it went down, it worked. The Twins one
- 31:33Speaker 1: that was a series where they could have been swept
- 31:35Speaker 1: very easily. They could have swept very easily. They ended
- 31:37Speaker 1: up taking two out of three. They'll take it. They
- 31:40Speaker 1: are thirty three and forty. They're in a very weird spot,
- 31:43Speaker 1: six and a half games out in the Central only
- 31:46Speaker 1: three games out in the Wildcard, but also only three
- 31:49Speaker 1: teams have more losses than them in the American League.
- 31:52Speaker 1: They have the third most runs in the American League,
- 31:55Speaker 1: but have allowed the most runs in the American League.
- 31:58Speaker 1: This could still go any which way, but they are
- 32:01Speaker 1: heading to Texas this weekend or sorry, this week to
- 32:03Speaker 1: play the Rangers. Dan is there right now, first game
- 32:06Speaker 1: Monday night, and Texas is tied with the Nomadic Athletics
- 32:12Speaker 1: at thirty five and thirty six for the last wildcard
- 32:15Speaker 1: spot Tyler at seventy three games into a season.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Are we watching?
- 32:21Speaker 1: Is a team thinking about that?
- 32:22Speaker 2: Or are you just just taking it?
- 32:25Speaker 4: I don't think the Twins clubhouse is scoreboard watching today.
- 32:31Speaker 3: No, I don't.
- 32:33Speaker 4: But for those who happen to catch the glimpse, it's like, wait,
- 32:37Speaker 4: we're not that far out of this. Like that's the
- 32:41Speaker 4: crazy with the way baseball is now, with the way
- 32:44Speaker 4: the teams kind of operate, you know, there's that upper
- 32:47Speaker 4: echelon of those few guys and then there's kind of
- 32:50Speaker 4: everybody else. And as long as we've said it all along,
- 32:54Speaker 4: you get to five hundred, like things can happen.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I don't know what the division, what the White Sox.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I think had just taken the lead the other day
- 33:02Speaker 3: when we did it.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You know, they're only so many games about five hundred anyway,
- 33:06Speaker 4: So it's like you get into your division, especially towards
- 33:09Speaker 4: the end of the season, like you just beat the
- 33:11Speaker 4: teams you're matched up with.
- 33:12Speaker 3: You know, within your division, you can make a little
- 33:15Speaker 3: run and sneak in.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I mean it's not.
- 33:18Speaker 3: You know, unattainable.
- 33:19Speaker 4: So it's a I don't know the one I keeps
- 33:22Speaker 4: y'all laugh, but the one move that would make sense
- 33:25Speaker 4: even if the Twins whatever the hell ends up happening.
- 33:28Speaker 3: But you go get just this seventh or eighth inning guy.
- 33:31Speaker 4: You don't have to go get a closer, you don't
- 33:32Speaker 4: have to do anything crazy, like just go get a
- 33:34Speaker 4: serviceable guy that you can just say, hey, eighth inning.
- 33:38Speaker 4: Like that would make such a huge difference. It would
- 33:40Speaker 4: slide everybody into a more comfortable spot. You know, all
- 33:43Speaker 4: these young guys, things like that that just keeps going
- 33:45Speaker 4: through my mind. It's like one little tweak and don't
- 33:48Speaker 4: mess with anything else, you know, don't You don't have
- 33:50Speaker 4: to sell the farm to buy somebody. Just go get
- 33:53Speaker 4: somebody that is an extra piece from another team, and
- 33:56Speaker 4: you know, I don't know, it could get interesting. We're
- 33:58Speaker 4: scoring runs, like, that's the crazy thing. We're scoring a
- 34:00Speaker 4: lot of runs. It's just preventing some of those extra runs, right.
- 34:06Speaker 2: The part the reason why I still hold on the
- 34:09Speaker 2: side of optimism, my four point three percentersm you will
- 34:14Speaker 2: Tuesday night, Mick Abel will start at Saint Paul. He's
- 34:18Speaker 2: expected to throw sixty five pitches. Does it would it
- 34:21Speaker 2: shock me if on Sunday or Monday? And hopefully it's
- 34:25Speaker 2: Sunday in Arizona versus Monday at home against the Dodgers.
- 34:30Speaker 2: But nick Abel potentially could come back that next time
- 34:33Speaker 2: through and he'd be limited. And obviously, if you're build
- 34:36Speaker 2: up as sixty five pitches, that means your next time
- 34:38Speaker 2: out is eighty So probably if it's the Dodgers, that
- 34:42Speaker 2: could be two innings. If it's you know, like basically
- 34:48Speaker 2: getting him back is a good thing. Kenry Rojas threw
- 34:52Speaker 2: a live Battracks in Fort Myers on Saturday and through
- 34:57Speaker 2: thirty pitches. His next outing be at Triple A. Getting
- 35:02Speaker 2: him back would be massive, just to throw that three
- 35:05Speaker 2: inning guy in there again. That can just come in
- 35:07Speaker 2: after Connor Prelip starts one in just for limiting Connor
- 35:11Speaker 2: Prelip's work, because man, he's been working a lot lately.
- 35:15Speaker 2: But if you said the Connor Prelip give us five,
- 35:18Speaker 2: that's that's a much better setup for the team right now.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I think you know you got those going on. Bailey
- 35:24Speaker 2: over made the trip, which to me is always that
- 35:27Speaker 2: telltale sign when an injured pitcher makes the trip, it
- 35:30Speaker 2: means they're going to be working and are closer than
- 35:33Speaker 2: they are further. He he's only catch so far. He
- 35:37Speaker 2: was shut down ten days. He's played catch I think
- 35:39Speaker 2: the last four or five days, and he's hoping to
- 35:42Speaker 2: be off a mound while they're on this trip. So
- 35:44Speaker 2: that's a good sign for getting those three guys back
- 35:48Speaker 2: and kind of helping out the rotation is key at
- 35:52Speaker 2: this point, and then you know you ease the workload
- 35:54Speaker 2: on other guys, I think, and but I agree with you, Duff.
- 35:58Speaker 2: If they even had one more arm, one more dependable
- 36:01Speaker 2: guy in that bullpen, right, you'd go to because there
- 36:05Speaker 2: will be a point where Andrew Morris hits a wall.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Because anytime a rookie pitch making the jump to relief,
- 36:12Speaker 2: it happens to everybody. It does every year around July August.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Because you've never done this is consistently.
- 36:18Speaker 3: You may have whole season is here.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and that body does legs get heavy in August,
- 36:26Speaker 2: especially if you haven't because he whereas he's going out
- 36:29Speaker 2: every five days as a starter, You're going out every
- 36:32Speaker 2: day to play catch, to see how your arm feels.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And then you're getting hot in the bullpen and getting
- 36:37Speaker 2: ready and that's way different than getting ready every you know,
- 36:40Speaker 2: for your mid start bullpen. And anyways, one more real.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Ass kicks in.
- 36:45Speaker 4: You start getting mad at everything too. It's a whole
- 36:48Speaker 4: other world out there.
- 36:51Speaker 2: But you know, I mean, hey, Jose Ramirez just went
- 36:53Speaker 2: down with a broken hammet bone, and Amante and Vinnie
- 37:00Speaker 2: Pascuentino same thing in Kansas City. So like really key
- 37:04Speaker 2: teams in the division. Yeah. The thing is the White
- 37:07Speaker 2: Sox are playing like World Series champions right now. They
- 37:10Speaker 2: just took two or three from the Dodgers. They look great,
- 37:13Speaker 2: but you know, just hope is all that this team
- 37:16Speaker 2: needs to keep giving its fans, and starting pitching would
- 37:20Speaker 2: help a long way if you can actually stay in games.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, obviously I don't expect them to be scoreboard
- 37:26Speaker 1: watching after seventy three games, but we're all just a
- 37:29Speaker 1: little over a month away from the trade deadline. If
- 37:31Speaker 1: the bats are this good and the starting pitching is good,
- 37:34Speaker 1: and it feels I agree Tyler, like one arm, maybe two, Yeah, like,
- 37:42Speaker 1: maybe you don't have to give up very much, and
- 37:43Speaker 1: even the Twins ownership would be willing to do that.
- 37:46Speaker 1: But I know we've had some commentors already upset at
- 37:50Speaker 1: the at the false hope that I like to implement.
- 37:52Speaker 1: So still a long way to go until that trade headline.
- 37:55Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. But for now, it's Texas this
- 37:58Speaker 1: week Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, as we talked about, because
- 38:01Speaker 1: of the World Cup day off on Wednesday, which actually
- 38:06Speaker 1: Dan strategically could help the Twins in this series because
- 38:09Speaker 1: tonight looks like it's a bullpen game with parades, and
- 38:11Speaker 1: then Zebbey Matthews tomorrow, who struggled a lot his last
- 38:16Speaker 1: time out against Detroit. It might give Shelton more options
- 38:18Speaker 1: for using that bullpen these two days, knowing he has
- 38:21Speaker 1: a day off on Wednesday.
- 38:23Speaker 2: And also this is all on turf this entire road trip.
- 38:26Speaker 2: They play Arizona after this. By the way, thank you
- 38:29Speaker 2: for six straight indoor games after all the rain. We
- 38:32Speaker 2: really appreciate it. But because they're playing on turf, that's
- 38:37Speaker 2: something you watch Byron Buckston on you kind of limit.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Especially he would not play a day game after a
- 38:44Speaker 2: night game ever, almost almost certainly. But they have that
- 38:48Speaker 2: day off on Wednesday, and so they play their Thursday
- 38:52Speaker 2: day game, and Shelton said, that's a built in off day,
- 38:55Speaker 2: so I can play Viron most likely on Thursday, and
- 38:57Speaker 2: then they have night game night game in Friday Saturday
- 39:01Speaker 2: in Arizona. So like we could see Byron in the
- 39:03Speaker 2: outfield for this whole this most of this road trip.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Maybe on Sunday. We'll same with DH as long as
- 39:10Speaker 2: you know, obviously things keep going well from on the
- 39:12Speaker 2: health standpoint, But yeah, it is an advantage. Yeah, and
- 39:18Speaker 2: you know, oh dude, you're lucky you never had like
- 39:23Speaker 2: you just got to pitch on that mound. It is
- 39:26Speaker 2: you've seen, guys, it's not great, but.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Well, it's just you get like I remember going to
- 39:31Speaker 4: Toronto and it's like you shagg VP and you and
- 39:34Speaker 4: you're like, why is my back hurt?
- 39:35Speaker 3: And it's like it's the turf. I'm like, this sucks.
- 39:41Speaker 2: No, it's real. And I don't know how guys play
- 39:44Speaker 2: their entire careers there and right when you have chronic
- 39:48Speaker 2: you've had knee issues like Byron had. And he hasn't
- 39:52Speaker 2: had the knee issues quite as much this year and
- 39:55Speaker 2: last year, but when you have had a history of
- 39:57Speaker 2: knee issues, you definitely want to watch out for your guy.
- 40:01Speaker 2: And yeah, and Shelton. Shelton was alert to the fact
- 40:05Speaker 2: that they just get that day off, so maybe sub
- 40:10Speaker 2: them out get I think I think Shelton's watching the
- 40:14Speaker 2: podcast and he's not really scoreboard watching. He's turnoff meter watching.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Doesn't want to lose jarn buckson.
- 40:21Speaker 1: So that's right, turn off. I gotta bring that back
- 40:25Speaker 1: right now. It's it's going in your favor. I'd say
- 40:27Speaker 1: Dan with the way he's playing, but or maybe not,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Uh.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Mackenzie Gore for the Rangers against the Twins, bullpen tonight,
- 40:38Speaker 1: Kumar Rocker against Debbie Matthews Tuesday night and then the
- 40:41Speaker 1: Thursday scheduled starters Joe Ryan against Jack Lighter.
- 40:45Speaker 2: We will be back with you on.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Wednesday, unless maybe Dan gets World Cup tickets. Uh you
- 40:52Speaker 1: see geek if you do, Dan, but that'll be in
- 40:54Speaker 1: the middle of the Texas series and we'll see where
- 40:57Speaker 1: the twins are at then after a pretty good Vibes weekend.
- 41:00Speaker 1: As always, thanks for listening. If you like what you hear,
- 41:03Speaker 1: please toss us like, a subscribe a comment. We'd love
- 41:05Speaker 1: to hear from you. We'd love to have you following
- 41:07Speaker 1: along wherever you listen or watch. And uh, that's all
- 41:11Speaker 1: for us today. We'll catch you on Wednesday. Bye bye, everybody.
