- 0:13Welcome to The Voice, where breaking, believing, and becoming finally have somewhere to be heard.
- 0:19My name is Kim Munoz, and I'm so excited that you're here.
- 0:24I want to talk a little about the voice behind this voice,
- 0:27because I didn't randomly pick today to start this.
- 0:32April 16th would have been my dad's 79th birthday.
- 0:36In a lot of ways, this moment feels bigger than just a date.
- 0:39It feels like the space between what shaped me and what I'm now wanting to share with others.
- 0:46Because I don't just live for
- 0:48me, I live for my kids, and I live for the people around me that I love.
- 0:54And if I'm being honest, it all probably started with my father.
- 0:59He's the reason I ever paid attention to words in the first place,
- 1:02to what people say, what they don't say, to the way life is felt,
- 1:07even when it's not explained.
- 1:10Without realizing it, he gave me a way to process life before I even knew how
- 1:14much I was going to need it.
- 1:16And boy, have I needed it over the years.
- 1:19The first books he ever shared with me weren't stories.
- 1:23They were always nonfiction, motivational, bettering your life,
- 1:27the kind of books that made you think.
- 1:29I mean, there wasn't a time that I didn't go visit him or he come visit me that
- 1:35he didn't have a new book to give me.
- 1:38I didn't fully understand it at the time, but he was planting something.
- 1:42Actually, he was planting a lot of somethings. This idea that life is always
- 1:47going to change, that the only thing we can really be certain of is that it will not stay the same.
- 1:53I can remember when I was younger even arguing with him about this,
- 1:57especially when it came to relationships.
- 1:59But it turns out he knew a little more than I did.
- 2:03And he used to say, it's how you respond to that change.
- 2:07That becomes the dash between your birth date and your death date.
- 2:12And your dash, well, that's who everyone's going to remember you were.
- 2:17So in a lot of ways, it's the most important part of your life.
- 2:21Because of that, I've always tried to live my best dash.
- 2:25I try to soak up every day that God blesses me to still be here.
- 2:30The thing is, my dad didn't just say these things. He lived them,
- 2:34and he lived them out loud.
- 2:37He also taught me how to laugh at life on the days that you can,
- 2:41because there will be plenty of days where it's just not possible.
- 2:46I think somewhere along the way, that became part of me, not perfectly, but definitely deeply.
- 2:52So this, this podcast, is time I'm choosing to spend with you,
- 2:57and this is me choosing to live it out loud.
- 3:01For my kids, so they can see what it looks like to navigate life honestly.
- 3:06For the people I love, and for
- 3:08anyone trying to figure out how to navigate their own version of change.
- 3:13Because let's face it, life has a way of handing you things you don't quite
- 3:16know how to carry Years of lessons, of challenges, of moments that stretch you
- 3:21in ways you didn't see coming.
- 3:24Relationships that don't turn out the way you thought Versions of yourself that
- 3:28slowly stop feeling like you The deep parts of life that we don't always share with each other.
- 3:35There were seasons, for me, where the only thing that made sense of any of it was my faith.
- 3:41Not the polished version, not the easy version, the version that questions God
- 3:45in your hardest moments and praises Him in the good, but keeps Him in the room for all of it.
- 3:51There was that time for me where the faith wasn't just something I believed.
- 3:56It was something I leaned on every single day.
- 4:01I remember just asking God, show me what you want for my life.
- 4:05Because I didn't have the answers. I just knew I couldn't navigate it on my own.
- 4:10But that faith didn't start with me. Both of my parents led with faith.
- 4:16It wasn't something they just talked about. It was how they lived.
- 4:19And because of that, it became a foundation for me very early in my life.
- 4:24It was something steady, even when everything else wasn't.
- 4:28It was the kind of faith that you could lean into when nothing else is holding,
- 4:33the kind that meet you in the middle of the questions, not just the answers.
- 4:37For a long time, I processed all of that quietly through my writing.
- 4:42That's where the breaking lived, where believing started to take shape,
- 4:45and where becoming began.
- 4:47And that's really where this comes from—these stories, these seasons,
- 4:52these moments that didn't make sense at the time, but shaped everything.
- 4:56Breaking, believing, becoming—it was never just a title.
- 5:00Because some of this was never meant to stay on a page. It needed a voice.
- 5:05The pauses, the tone, the parts you can't fully capture in writing.
- 5:09So this is where we will say it out loud. The things we've been carrying,
- 5:14the things we've been healing through, the parts of becoming that aren't always pretty but are real.
- 5:20Not perfect, not polished, but there will be some humor.
- 5:25Because sometimes I can be funny. and honestly sometimes that's part of surviving it.
- 5:31We'll have conversations, we'll have guests, people will share their own stories
- 5:35of what they've walked through because none of us should be doing this alone.
- 5:41So yes, there will be depth but there will also be a lot of fun along the way.
- 5:46In a lot of ways this feels like a continuation of something that started long
- 5:51before this podcast, a voice that was shaped through years of life,
- 5:55through faith, through lessons I didn't always understand in the moment, but I certainly do now.
- 6:01So wherever you are, if you're in a season of breaking, I want you to hold on.
- 6:07Believing is coming, and becoming, well, that's already happening.
- 6:11And the next time, we're going to talk about the glow-up, because what people
- 6:15see in me didn't happen by accident.
- 6:18Some of it was intentional, some of it was earned, through walking away from
- 6:23what was no longer meant for me.
- 6:25And I think a lot of times in life we skip over the part where it actually cost something.
- 6:30And I'm not just talking about money, although yes, there was a little bit of
- 6:33that too. I'll see you next time, and until then.
