- 0:20Speaker 1: Mom's Club, we believe that what embarrasses you now will
- 0:23Speaker 1: make a great story later. And let's face it, you
- 0:27Speaker 1: don't laugh sometimes you're gonna cry. Join us in having
- 0:31Speaker 1: a good laugh together. I'm Monica Samuels. You are now
- 0:35Speaker 1: inside the Mom's Club, your private destination for all things mom.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Think the money?
- 0:42Speaker 3: Are you?
- 0:43Speaker 1: I am excellent? And I should ask how are you?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Because you were telling me so we are in that
- 0:50Speaker 1: part of life where we are starting to investigate issues
- 0:54Speaker 1: of the M word, and we're not talking about money.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We're talking about menopause. And you showed up lots of drugs.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I was hot a little bit on some hormone
- 1:08Speaker 4: replacement therapy. This week. It's been, you know, an interesting
- 1:14Speaker 4: mini phone calls and appointments. I learned a lot and uh,
- 1:19Speaker 4: my background is nursing, so I thought it was fascinating
- 1:22Speaker 4: all the way around. So yes, I'm pro all my
- 1:25Speaker 4: new medications.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Well, there is a fun So I started to do
- 1:29Speaker 1: some of that and then the doctor that I was
- 1:31Speaker 1: working with gave me this calendar. She said, we get
- 1:35Speaker 1: to give you this medicine on a lunar calendar.
- 1:38Speaker 4: And so she's saying natural family planning or something.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Something like that. She's like, okay, so you do three
- 1:44Speaker 1: twists on Monday, You're gonna do three twists of this
- 1:47Speaker 1: and two twists of that, and the next day you're
- 1:49Speaker 1: doing four twists of that and five twists. I gave up.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I would fail because I couldn't keep up. But you know,
- 1:56Speaker 4: I really did it because I take a class of
- 1:59Speaker 4: pure bar class that I love really for my mind
- 2:03Speaker 4: most of all, I find that part of my day.
- 2:06Speaker 4: But I could not get rid of my hip pain,
- 2:09Speaker 4: and I felt like I didn't have enough hormones flowing
- 2:12Speaker 4: through and that I needed to address it. So anyway,
- 2:15Speaker 4: it's no secret everybody goes through it, and so why
- 2:18Speaker 4: not feel better.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I didn't know that hip pain. You know, you know
- 2:21Speaker 1: I've had a huge hip problem, right. I didn't know
- 2:23Speaker 1: that hip pain was connected to all that.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean that, yeah teninopathy.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So I need le more about all of this.
- 2:35Speaker 4: So I'm hoping that helps along with doing other things
- 2:39Speaker 4: like taking care of myself, whether it's the walking, getting outside,
- 2:43Speaker 4: all of the things that we should be embracing on
- 2:45Speaker 4: a regular basis. I'm no picture of health, but I
- 2:49Speaker 4: sure am trying well.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So you know that I I used to that was
- 2:53Speaker 1: really fit first for quite a while. And then I
- 2:57Speaker 1: broke my foot. Literally, I took four steps in my
- 3:00Speaker 1: own house. My foot twisted, it broke, and I was
- 3:04Speaker 1: a year of I had a screw put in my
- 3:07Speaker 1: foot and then they had to take it out. And
- 3:09Speaker 1: then I was on one of these knee rollers because
- 3:12Speaker 1: I hated crutches, and then the knee roller caused my
- 3:16Speaker 1: hip a hip laborl tear. I mean, it's like one
- 3:19Speaker 1: thing is yeah, but I've always been I've never been limber,
- 3:25Speaker 1: not even I mean, but you I have no flexibility.
- 3:28Speaker 4: What was the procedure you did for your hip?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Just cell replacement? And actually it was that actually worked.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I mean it made a huge difference because you saw
- 3:38Speaker 1: me right after I after I had the procedure, it
- 3:41Speaker 1: was very painful.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I went from friend to nurse asap.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I invited her. I invited to join me in Florida
- 3:48Speaker 1: on a vacation, but little did she know it was
- 3:50Speaker 1: mainly to make sure that I could. She had to
- 3:54Speaker 1: help me up the stairs and into the car and
- 3:56Speaker 1: all of a sudden, but it was good friend to
- 3:58Speaker 1: do such a thing. But yeah, but now I'm trying
- 4:01Speaker 1: to get back into shape again and trying to get there.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And so when we recently went to outside of London,
- 4:09Speaker 1: we were in the English countryside, which was tons of fun.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Although Julie put me on a horse, which was so great.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I feel the horse spirit, like, you know, you really
- 4:21Speaker 4: need to grasp what I tried to get you to
- 4:23Speaker 4: talk to your horse, lean over and pet it, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 4: get that energy going and see your face.
- 4:31Speaker 1: No, I love the horse was very nice, but I
- 4:33Speaker 1: have a little problem with germs. So she told me
- 4:35Speaker 1: to pet the horse and then I had to reach
- 4:37Speaker 1: for my my yeah, hand sanitizer. It was kind of
- 4:41Speaker 1: a little too much, but then so we did that,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and then we took a walk in the English countryside,
- 4:46Speaker 1: which they teased me because I brought my purse and
- 4:50Speaker 1: they're like, who brings a purse to a hike in
- 4:52Speaker 1: the English countryside? But we almost we got to be
- 4:55Speaker 1: late at night and we were afraid it was going
- 4:58Speaker 1: to be too dark to walk back, and who had
- 5:01Speaker 1: money to pay the taxi when we had to walk?
- 5:03Speaker 1: When we had to.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Take thank God for your cashmere sweater and your fancy
- 5:07Speaker 4: person or not, or we never would have made it anyway.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But the biggest thing was the yoga.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Oh God.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So we took a yoga class from a woman who's
- 5:16Speaker 1: very serious. He was really good, I mean she was excellent,
- 5:19Speaker 1: really good instructor. And I said from the beginning, I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: gonna be on the back row because I don't want
- 5:25Speaker 1: anybody to see this because it's just not something anybody
- 5:27Speaker 1: should have to see. And that worked fine. I mean
- 5:31Speaker 1: I did most.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Of the poses.
- 5:34Speaker 1: A few were like there was no way that was happening.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But the worst thing.
- 5:38Speaker 4: So it's silent.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You get on the back row and you think, Okay,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I'm safe, except like I said, I'm not limber. I
- 5:46Speaker 1: got lots of issues. My knees were cracking.
- 5:49Speaker 4: So loud to the point where I was like people
- 5:53Speaker 4: in my class they were laughing, they laughed.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I don't blame them because so I'm trying.
- 6:00Speaker 4: We are trying. We are trying, but we have somebody
- 6:02Speaker 4: who can really help us.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Today.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's going to help us a lot, which is why
- 6:05Speaker 1: we should mental health get straight to our guests. Becauseyoga,
- 6:09Speaker 1: we're going to learn a lot. And yeah, so let
- 6:13Speaker 1: me introduce our guests today. It's very exciting. She is
- 6:17Speaker 1: the granddaughter of the illustrious author Ernest Hemingway. And for
- 6:21Speaker 1: those of you moms out there who have not heard
- 6:23Speaker 1: of him, that is a shameful statement about our educational
- 6:27Speaker 1: system in this country. You need to look that up.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Very famous author, but she's famous in her own right.
- 6:33Speaker 1: She made her silver screen debut at the age of
- 6:36Speaker 1: thirteen in the film Lipstick, and then she was nominated
- 6:39Speaker 1: for an Academy Award for Woody Allen's Manhattan. Since then,
- 6:43Speaker 1: she's made over thirty films and TV appearance appearances, and
- 6:47Speaker 1: today she pursues her passion for yoga and health and
- 6:51Speaker 1: is now the voice of holistic and balanced health and
- 6:54Speaker 1: well being. Please welcome maryel Hemingway.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yeah, into the mom's flow.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Thank Ye you're a mom.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And she's a mom of two daughters. Yeah, and an
- 7:05Speaker 1: author herself. I mean I could go on and on
- 7:09Speaker 1: and just read your biography and then we could say
- 7:11Speaker 1: call in a day because you have quantity of accomplishments.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Oh, that's very sweet of you. Well, it's really fun
- 7:17Speaker 3: to be here. Yeah, I hope, Uh. I hope my
- 7:21Speaker 3: background doesn't get too crazy.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you might have some animals run through.
- 7:25Speaker 5: We never know.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Yeah, the catt will probably jump up on the table.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I love it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's very pretty back there. Yeah, very nice. Well let's start.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So there's two facets to this we want to talk
- 7:36Speaker 1: to you about. One is the physical health side, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: then we like to talk to you about the mental
- 7:40Speaker 1: health side because you put it all together and that's
- 7:42Speaker 1: what we what we need information on. So I want
- 7:45Speaker 1: to start with the physical side because, as I said,
- 7:48Speaker 1: if you're kind of a mess like me, particularly with yoga,
- 7:53Speaker 1: do you really need someone in the class who's cracking
- 7:56Speaker 1: and creaking? Like, what's the mindset? How do you yoga?
- 8:01Speaker 3: Let me explain something about yoga. I've been doing yoga
- 8:03Speaker 3: since I was twenty six years old, which means I've
- 8:06Speaker 3: been doing yoga for very long, many many decades since then. Anyway,
- 8:13Speaker 3: yoga is really just movement with breath. If you're not breathing,
- 8:17Speaker 3: then you're really not doing yoga. You're just doing exercise now.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And the reason why there's that delineation is that breath
- 8:27Speaker 3: has the ability to heal, cause the creakiness to kind
- 8:31Speaker 3: of mellow and it really doesn't matter. Yoga's not a competition.
- 8:37Speaker 3: It's not like other you know, it's not like other
- 8:40Speaker 3: exercise sports. It's really about you getting in tune with
- 8:44Speaker 3: your body on the inside so that you can be
- 8:47Speaker 3: aware of what suits it best.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Does that make sense, It does make sense. Yeah, well
- 8:53Speaker 1: it makes me feel better too. Honestly, I was trading
- 8:55Speaker 1: it as a competition because I was there with Julie
- 9:00Speaker 1: and our friend Jennifer, who's there's nothing Jennifer doesn't do
- 9:04Speaker 1: that's just perfect, And so she was right in front
- 9:07Speaker 1: of me, and I'm like, oh, show off. I'm about
- 9:10Speaker 1: to fall over on my face what I'm doing and
- 9:13Speaker 1: she's doing it great. But yeah, if I just so
- 9:16Speaker 1: just internalize it to myself, just focus on what I'm
- 9:19Speaker 1: doing and not all these really.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Is it really is just about you understanding that your
- 9:26Speaker 3: body is tight in certain areas. And you know, you're
- 9:30Speaker 3: talking about hormones and and you know, and your hips
- 9:35Speaker 3: and all these different things. You know, Yoga is just
- 9:39Speaker 3: a place where you get to It's kind of a
- 9:42Speaker 3: Buddhist approach to let's just step back and look at
- 9:47Speaker 3: what our body needs. It's training you to be soft
- 9:52Speaker 3: within yourself. I think as women, as mothers, as me
- 9:57Speaker 3: as a grandmother. Now, I think that we're hard on ourselves.
- 10:00Speaker 3: We need we have expectations about what we need to
- 10:04Speaker 3: be doing and the and the truth is, you know,
- 10:07Speaker 3: there's no like. Things change as we get older, things shift,
- 10:12Speaker 3: We move into different facets of our lives. And it
- 10:16Speaker 3: doesn't mean that you move less. It means that you
- 10:18Speaker 3: move with more compassion and awareness of of your of
- 10:25Speaker 3: your self and your body. So that's why there's this
- 10:29Speaker 3: the idea that if you focus on your breath during
- 10:33Speaker 3: this movement, it shifts the way your body will move
- 10:38Speaker 3: and how you feel about it. Because sometimes we, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 3: get into things and we're doing things in exercise and
- 10:45Speaker 3: you're like, oh, you're britting your teeth and like, I'm
- 10:48Speaker 3: going to get through this, whereas yoga should be more
- 10:51Speaker 3: about oh wait a second. This is telling me to
- 10:55Speaker 3: do something different. This is telling me to be more
- 10:58Speaker 3: gentle with myself. And I think women, that's a really
- 11:01Speaker 3: important yeah that we have a hard time doing. But
- 11:05Speaker 3: you it's like I keep pushing, I keep pushing, and
- 11:08Speaker 3: then really what happens is you hit a wall and
- 11:11Speaker 3: then you're like, I'm not going to do this anymore, right,
- 11:13Speaker 3: And that's not good. It's always about like, oh it's okay,
- 11:18Speaker 3: I don't have to be the best in the class,
- 11:20Speaker 3: because that's not what this is about. It's not a
- 11:23Speaker 3: hip hop class. It's not a you know, a kickboxing
- 11:26Speaker 3: boxing class.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So you've read a lot of these things. Is there
- 11:30Speaker 1: there's no judgment in like any of the students on
- 11:35Speaker 1: the participants. I guess because I feel judged. I mean,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I guess I was always an overachiever in school and
- 11:39Speaker 1: I'm like, wow, the teacher's got to.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Think on your competitive monica.
- 11:43Speaker 1: So yeah, so but there's no judgment here, right, I mean,
- 11:46Speaker 1: if I look like if you see me in the
- 11:48Speaker 1: back falling over, if you're not thinking, oh.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Gosh, and you know, I used to I used to
- 11:53Speaker 3: lead a lot of workshops, and I used to I
- 11:56Speaker 3: used to fall kind of on purpose. As you It's
- 12:00Speaker 3: like falling is just like part of the It's like, oh,
- 12:03Speaker 3: that's great, you pushed yourself to a limit and now
- 12:07Speaker 3: you know where that limit is, and you know, and
- 12:10Speaker 3: falling doesn't necessarily mean you fall to hurt yourself. It's
- 12:13Speaker 3: just like it's just part of It's like we don't
- 12:17Speaker 3: need to be perfect, and I think that that's kind
- 12:20Speaker 3: of the bane of width. This exist is like, ah,
- 12:22Speaker 3: this need to be perfect. I'm a perfect mother, I'm
- 12:25Speaker 3: a really good wife, I'm a really good partner. Whatever
- 12:29Speaker 3: it is, whatever, you know, dialogue we have going on
- 12:32Speaker 3: in our heads. That's not what yoga's about. It's about
- 12:35Speaker 3: actually not listening to the dialogue that's inside your head.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Because by the way, that negative self talk that you
- 12:43Speaker 3: do inside yourself, that's not you. That's your ego trying
- 12:48Speaker 3: to control you. That has nothing to do with who
- 12:50Speaker 3: you are, because.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You are you, the inner you, the kind of a.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Ware you knows what's right for you. And so that's
- 12:59Speaker 3: why you know, when I talk about wellness, yoga, just
- 13:04Speaker 3: being your best self, it's about really just tuning into
- 13:10Speaker 3: the voice that is you, that knows that you're okay
- 13:14Speaker 3: right now right So, like everybody has this idea that
- 13:20Speaker 3: there's somebody out there that's gonna teach us what's right
- 13:23Speaker 3: for us, you know, like, oh, there's that doctor, there's
- 13:27Speaker 3: that holistic person, or a yoga teacher. For me, it
- 13:31Speaker 3: was I went to a lot of gurus, and I
- 13:33Speaker 3: traveled the world and did a lot of goofy things,
- 13:36Speaker 3: and I learned a lot, but you know, I did
- 13:38Speaker 3: a lot of goofy things. Anyway, what I realized is
- 13:43Speaker 3: is that you're your best teacher. I went to I
- 13:47Speaker 3: actually went to India once and I met his Holiness,
- 13:50Speaker 3: the Dalai Lama, and and it was it was such
- 13:53Speaker 3: an incredible story.
- 13:55Speaker 4: I I, do you want me to tell the story?
- 13:59Speaker 4: I mean, we've never really had someone you can say
- 14:01Speaker 4: they've met that please anywhere.
- 14:05Speaker 3: So I went to India at where he lives in
- 14:08Speaker 3: Darham Solim because he can't be into bed as you know,
- 14:13Speaker 3: because of political reasons. Anyway, we went there. I was
- 14:16Speaker 3: about forty five, so that's almost anyway, almost twenty years ago,
- 14:21Speaker 3: Holy crap. And so I went there and I was
- 14:26Speaker 3: really excited. We were going to have a private audience.
- 14:29Speaker 3: And when I say a private audience, there's about ten
- 14:33Speaker 3: really influential people, super wealthy, super political whatever, and they
- 14:40Speaker 3: were whooptie doos, and they all had questions for his
- 14:43Speaker 3: Holiness and I was just super happy to be there.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I had nothing to say to him, but I was
- 14:47Speaker 3: just like excited. So we go into this little it's
- 14:52Speaker 3: like a little cottage, but it had a little stairwell
- 14:56Speaker 3: up and you could see him. He came down these
- 14:59Speaker 3: stairs and not it wasn't grand it was it wasn't
- 15:02Speaker 3: like a grand staircase. It was just he came down
- 15:04Speaker 3: these stairs and there was these chairs, these overstuffed chairs
- 15:09Speaker 3: and pillows in front of him, and two chairs beside him,
- 15:14Speaker 3: and we all kind of were waiting for him. He
- 15:16Speaker 3: came down and he directed me. He sat down, and
- 15:20Speaker 3: he directed me, of all people, to sit down next
- 15:23Speaker 3: to him, and I was super excited. So I sat
- 15:26Speaker 3: down next to him. And first of all, I just
- 15:30Speaker 3: want to say that listening to a man of such
- 15:34Speaker 3: like he's, you know, like this great leader kind of
- 15:39Speaker 3: you know, and just listening to him, and I wasn't
- 15:43Speaker 3: in worship of him.
- 15:44Speaker 5: But I was.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I was pretty astonished, Yeah, in awe And watching him
- 15:49Speaker 3: listen to people was extraordinary. The fact that he could
- 15:56Speaker 3: he took it. When a person asked him a question,
- 16:00Speaker 3: he looked them in the eyes though they were the
- 16:02Speaker 3: only person in the room at that time. So that
- 16:05Speaker 3: was the first thing that really touched me. The other
- 16:08Speaker 3: thing was he didn't say much in response to their questions,
- 16:14Speaker 3: but he listened with such attention that the person felt
- 16:21Speaker 3: so incredibly heard. So that was that was number one.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And then I just watched him and periodically he would
- 16:27Speaker 3: look over at me and he would he would smile,
- 16:30Speaker 3: and that he would giggle, and I was like, oh
- 16:33Speaker 3: my god. So I would smile and giggle back, thinking,
- 16:38Speaker 3: oh my god, I'm having this unspoken communication with his
- 16:42Speaker 3: wholiness anyway whatever. And so an hour and a half
- 16:47Speaker 3: goes by. I haven't said a word because I have
- 16:50Speaker 3: nothing to say to him, and you can tell is
- 16:54Speaker 3: wrapping up, and we all start to get up, and
- 16:58Speaker 3: I start to get up like this, and he puts
- 17:00Speaker 3: his hand on my hand and he looks me in
- 17:03Speaker 3: the eye and it still makes me cry. He looks
- 17:08Speaker 3: me in the eye and he says, you're okay.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Oh, And you have to.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Understand my story. I have traveled the world looking for
- 17:20Speaker 3: answers to why my family was the way that they were,
- 17:24Speaker 3: the mental illness. Was I going to end up like them?
- 17:28Speaker 3: Was I going to take my lef whatever?
- 17:32Speaker 1: And him saying that.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Was such an epiphany for me. I mean, I didn't
- 17:39Speaker 3: see angels or white light, but I did. I remember
- 17:44Speaker 3: going back to the States thinking, oh, I am okay,
- 17:52Speaker 3: And that's when I started my journey. I really do
- 17:55Speaker 3: a lot of work for mental health. I have a
- 17:57Speaker 3: foundation called the Foundation called the maryel Hemingway found which
- 18:00Speaker 3: I'm trying to create as a a resource navigator for
- 18:07Speaker 3: mental health. I just want people to be able to
- 18:09Speaker 3: go there, plug in. You know, I'm in Austin, Texas, Texas,
- 18:14Speaker 3: I'm in Bourbonck, California, wherever I am in the United
- 18:17Speaker 3: States or hopefully the world, and be able to say,
- 18:21Speaker 3: if you've got addiction issues, suicide issues, whatever your child
- 18:26Speaker 3: is going through something, where do I go if I
- 18:28Speaker 3: want holistic help, if I want psychanter health, if I
- 18:31Speaker 3: want you know whatever.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Right, So, Miriel, you want that to be That's an
- 18:35Speaker 4: incredible experience getting to know the Dalai Lama. I thank
- 18:38Speaker 4: you for sharing that, because when you said that and
- 18:41Speaker 4: he touched you, you know, for someone to say it's
- 18:43Speaker 4: going to be okay, You're going to be okay, it
- 18:46Speaker 4: was pretty cool. But how did you know with all
- 18:48Speaker 4: the things that have gone in in your life? You know,
- 18:51Speaker 4: you talk a lot about mental health and the journey.
- 18:54Speaker 4: You've even done a documentary called Running from Crazy. Is
- 18:58Speaker 4: that the correct?
- 19:00Speaker 5: Yes?
- 19:00Speaker 4: I just want to make sure. So yeah, so my
- 19:03Speaker 4: I would like to know how you chose the path
- 19:06Speaker 4: that you chose, because you've seen it all before, You've
- 19:09Speaker 4: seen the addiction and everything else. How did you choose
- 19:12Speaker 4: meditation and yoga knowing that was going to boost your
- 19:15Speaker 4: life and you were going to be this champion for
- 19:19Speaker 4: mental wellness.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I well, that that's kind of what the point of
- 19:24Speaker 3: the whole holys His Holiness conversation or the story is
- 19:29Speaker 3: really that. That was the that was kind of the
- 19:32Speaker 3: turning point where I realized, oh, this is my journey.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I need to go down this path. I need to
- 19:39Speaker 3: help people. I mean I always had been. I'd been
- 19:41Speaker 3: doing yoga for twenty years prior to that. Sure, I was,
- 19:46Speaker 3: you know, I was on that path, but it was
- 19:49Speaker 3: I was disconnected. There was something about me that was
- 19:52Speaker 3: I was still in fear. I was still chasing a guru,
- 19:56Speaker 3: a doctor of thisa that until I realized it was me.
- 20:00Speaker 3: That was the moment I went, oh, I'm my best teacher,
- 20:04Speaker 3: I'm my best guru, I'm my best nutritionist. Now it
- 20:08Speaker 3: doesn't mean that you don't need help. We all need help.
- 20:10Speaker 3: We all need you know, we need moms and friends
- 20:14Speaker 3: and maybe doctors, maybe this, that and the other thing whatever.
- 20:18Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, all of us
- 20:22Speaker 3: are guided by our own intuition, yes, right, And if
- 20:25Speaker 3: we don't trust what we have to say about ourselves,
- 20:30Speaker 3: then you know, like you're never going to get the
- 20:33Speaker 3: healing that you really need because you know what's best
- 20:37Speaker 3: for you ultimately.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I mean about four years ago, I did that too,
- 20:40Speaker 4: you know, I said to myself, Oh my gosh, I'm
- 20:43Speaker 4: actually know a lot of things and to trust myself,
- 20:48Speaker 4: turn into myself, so you help people. You do have
- 20:51Speaker 4: a podcast? I do, Yeah, it comes. It's called Outcomes
- 20:56Speaker 4: the Sun. Is that correct?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yes?
- 20:57Speaker 4: And so I have and I out Come the Sun
- 21:00Speaker 4: Outcomes the Sun beautiful. I love that when I was
- 21:03Speaker 4: looking this up in your podcast, is there one common
- 21:06Speaker 4: treatment or product that people give you feedback on that
- 21:09Speaker 4: they say that works that. I loved that because there
- 21:12Speaker 4: are so many and I was just wondering the type
- 21:14Speaker 4: of feedback you get from people who listen to your podcast.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Well, you know, my podcast is not about like, I'm
- 21:22Speaker 3: not pushing any particular anything. I what I do talk
- 21:27Speaker 3: about with my I have a co host. Yeahs, you
- 21:30Speaker 3: both have each other Melissa Alma Gucci, and we we
- 21:36Speaker 3: it's not like we're pushing any particular thing, but we
- 21:39Speaker 3: do talk of the seven doctors, and the seven doctors
- 21:42Speaker 3: or doctor son, doctor air, doctor water, doctor, exercise, doctor earth,
- 21:46Speaker 3: doctor nutrition, and doctor rest. They're available twenty four hours
- 21:50Speaker 3: and day, seven days a week, and they're free, They're
- 21:52Speaker 3: super free. Yeah, and we get a lot of feedback.
- 21:57Speaker 3: We get a lot of feedback that, oh my god,
- 22:00Speaker 3: I never realized that grounding, taking your shoes off and
- 22:04Speaker 3: walking on your grass in the backyard or walking h
- 22:13Speaker 3: actually makes me feel more inflammation in my body because
- 22:17Speaker 3: it actually gets rid of inflammation, also gets rid of
- 22:21Speaker 3: neuro inflammation, which is the inflammation the brain, which is
- 22:25Speaker 3: also a great cause of our mental health problems. So
- 22:29Speaker 3: there's a lot of feedback and we try to share
- 22:32Speaker 3: things that help boost the mental our mental health. But
- 22:36Speaker 3: I think everything you do physically helps your mental health.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk a little bit about mental health. And
- 22:45Speaker 1: there's always been a stigma over mental health issues, and
- 22:50Speaker 1: it seems like it's gotten much better, but we're still
- 22:54Speaker 1: not quite there yet. Where do you think we are
- 22:56Speaker 1: in helping people identify? You know, and I will say
- 23:01Speaker 1: I have, as Julie Well knows, I have an issue
- 23:03Speaker 1: with anxiety, and just the way then I said it
- 23:07Speaker 1: is like as an apology, I should apologize. I can't
- 23:10Speaker 1: help that. But where are we? Where do you think
- 23:12Speaker 1: we are now? And what can we do to make
- 23:15Speaker 1: people feel more comfortable? Just saying, hey, yeah, I got it.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I have anxiety. You know I'm working on it, but
- 23:20Speaker 1: I have it. Where do you think we are?
- 23:24Speaker 5: In question?
- 23:24Speaker 3: What do we do? What you just did gave a
- 23:30Speaker 3: lot of people that listened to your podcast permission to
- 23:32Speaker 3: say that that's all, you know, just saying, gosh, I'm embarrassed.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I'm you know, because everybody is right. We're all in
- 23:41Speaker 3: the same boat. We're all trying to live a life.
- 23:44Speaker 3: And the reason why I share my story and you know,
- 23:47Speaker 3: I have seven suicides in my family and all that stuff,
- 23:50Speaker 3: I only share it to say, look, just because I
- 23:54Speaker 3: come from a famous family or I've got a famous
- 23:56Speaker 3: name or whatever it is, doesn't mean that I don't
- 23:59Speaker 3: have all this issues that everybody else has. It wakes
- 24:02Speaker 3: up in the morning, putting their pants on, you know,
- 24:05Speaker 3: one leg at a time, making their coffee, sometimes having
- 24:08Speaker 3: a headache, you know, whatever it was a while ago,
- 24:12Speaker 3: but I had hot flashes. But you'll get back to menopause.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Can't wait.
- 24:17Speaker 3: But anyway, it's just it's it really is about just
- 24:22Speaker 3: talking about it. You help people by saying that you're
- 24:26Speaker 3: embarrassed about it, because that makes people feel comfortable. They go, oh, gosh,
- 24:30Speaker 3: I'm kind of embarrassed about that, And then then you
- 24:32Speaker 3: realize once you've said it, are you really embarrassed? No,
- 24:36Speaker 3: because we're not embarrassed if we have a headache. We're
- 24:41Speaker 3: not embarrassed when we get a cold, but we're super
- 24:43Speaker 3: embarrassed if we have a day where we're anxious. Like why,
- 24:48Speaker 3: our brain is connected to our body, so these things
- 24:52Speaker 3: are working in conjunction. So sometimes physical things are manifestations
- 24:56Speaker 3: of the brain not being happy, and sometimes the brain
- 25:00Speaker 3: is a manifestation of the body not being happy.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Do you think this country is getting better about bringing
- 25:07Speaker 4: it to the surface.
- 25:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I think.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I just did a speaking engagement in Spain and they're
- 25:14Speaker 3: really I mean, they have a whole belief system. They
- 25:17Speaker 3: kept saying to me, well, gosh, we sort of believe
- 25:20Speaker 3: if you talk about suicide it might encourage people to
- 25:23Speaker 3: take their life.
- 25:24Speaker 4: And I was like, whoa no, no, no, no, it's
- 25:27Speaker 4: not that way at all.
- 25:28Speaker 3: The more you talk about it, the less power it has. True,
- 25:31Speaker 3: because when you keep things in the darkness, they get bigger.
- 25:35Speaker 3: You know how it is like your problems that you
- 25:38Speaker 3: don't discuss, you know how big they get in your brain.
- 25:41Speaker 3: You wake up in the middle of the night it's
- 25:43Speaker 3: like ah, You're like, ah.
- 25:46Speaker 4: This is like taking over my life.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Whereas when you talk about it, it takes that. It's
- 25:51Speaker 3: like it unplugs it from the wall and it becomes
- 25:54Speaker 3: less powerful.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Yeah, could not agree more, could not agree more. Well,
- 25:59Speaker 4: I love that you do what you do and spreading
- 26:02Speaker 4: the word. And I think that we have people that
- 26:05Speaker 4: want to have a question.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Do Yeah, we have some women that would like to
- 26:08Speaker 1: ask you some questions as well, and there are zoomer moms,
- 26:11Speaker 1: So welcome zoomer moms. Welcome to Hi ladies. Well, we
- 26:18Speaker 1: know you each have a question for maryel So I'm
- 26:21Speaker 1: going to introduce each one of you and tell us
- 26:23Speaker 1: a little bit about yourself and ask your question. And
- 26:26Speaker 1: we will start with Kathy, Welcome to the Mom's Club.
- 26:30Speaker 7: Hi, thank you so much for having me as a
- 26:32Speaker 7: zoomer mom today. A little bit about myself. It used
- 26:36Speaker 7: to be have held a couple of elected official positions,
- 26:39Speaker 7: currently serving as an appointed position for the state of Texas.
- 26:43Speaker 7: I'm so excited to have this network that you've put together, Monica,
- 26:48Speaker 7: because now my kids, my daughter just turned twenty five,
- 26:51Speaker 7: my son's about to turn twenty one, so I'm in
- 26:53Speaker 7: a different phase of the mom world. But the mom
- 26:57Speaker 7: world never leaves you.
- 26:58Speaker 5: So thank you.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Thank you for the part of Mary l My goodness,
- 27:03Speaker 7: you are as sunny as ever, and God bless you
- 27:06Speaker 7: for the work you're doing to allow people to talk
- 27:09Speaker 7: about mental health. I've got a couple of loved ones
- 27:11Speaker 7: that suffer from some pretty significant mental health issues, and
- 27:16Speaker 7: it's a family. It takes everybody to help out with
- 27:21Speaker 7: moms nowadays. If you're a new mom starting out, and
- 27:25Speaker 7: you've got social media, which can be used for good
- 27:28Speaker 7: in things like this, but so many people compare themselves
- 27:33Speaker 7: to that TikTok mom or Facebook mom or probably showing
- 27:37Speaker 7: my age say on Facebook, what advice do you give
- 27:42Speaker 7: to a new mom who doesn't just have the noise
- 27:45Speaker 7: that I had in my head back when my kids
- 27:47Speaker 7: were little. But they've got people who look perfect like
- 27:51Speaker 7: it's easy.
- 27:52Speaker 5: What advice them?
- 27:55Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you've hit on one of the most
- 27:59Speaker 3: important things that I think mental health issues are are
- 28:05Speaker 3: so prevalent, especially for the youth, because social media is
- 28:10Speaker 3: destroying their view of themselves. They're thinking that, oh my god,
- 28:16Speaker 3: I'm not as perfect and by the way, who got
- 28:19Speaker 3: you know, like I was sitting here trying to make
- 28:21Speaker 3: sure that my lighting was okay because you don't want
- 28:23Speaker 3: to be ugly, Yeah, you got, we do these things,
- 28:29Speaker 3: but nobody's going on social media putting their ugliest picture
- 28:33Speaker 3: up and you know, being all open or people that
- 28:36Speaker 3: are doing that are kind of doing that. I don't know,
- 28:39Speaker 3: it's all and comparison is just the bane of anybody's existence.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Comparison is the cause of more pain and more suffering,
- 28:50Speaker 3: especially for the youth, because they're just they're comparing themselves
- 28:55Speaker 3: to things that aren't real. And so I think there
- 28:57Speaker 3: needs to be education to our youth about what social
- 29:01Speaker 3: media is. Yes, it's a great tool. It enables all
- 29:04Speaker 3: of us as women to get together and be excited
- 29:07Speaker 3: about meeting each other and talking about being a mom
- 29:10Speaker 3: or whatever it is you're going through in your life.
- 29:13Speaker 3: But we have to know that there's limitations to that.
- 29:18Speaker 3: It's not real connection. You know, there's really a When
- 29:24Speaker 3: you're on your phone and you're texting, that's a seven
- 29:27Speaker 3: percent connection. All of us here were This is better
- 29:32Speaker 3: because I can see your face and you can see mine,
- 29:34Speaker 3: and we can hear each other, so there's much more
- 29:37Speaker 3: of a connection. But the truth is when you're looking
- 29:40Speaker 3: on Instagram, there's not a connection. People are feeling more
- 29:44Speaker 3: and more lonely because of social media. It's creating more anxiety,
- 29:49Speaker 3: more depression. So I think we need to be educated
- 29:53Speaker 3: and we need to give our children limitations when it
- 29:57Speaker 3: comes to social media. Look, it's not going to go away,
- 30:02Speaker 3: but you have to say, look, when we're eating dinner,
- 30:05Speaker 3: you cannot be on your phone. That's just a no go, right,
- 30:08Speaker 3: And by eight nine o'clock that thing shut down unless
- 30:14Speaker 3: your kids are you know, out, You've got to stay
- 30:16Speaker 3: in contact. But you know what I mean, we got
- 30:18Speaker 3: to start going Look my my real connection with my children,
- 30:24Speaker 3: real connection with my spouse or whomever you're living with.
- 30:30Speaker 3: That's what really matters, right, We need to highlight the
- 30:36Speaker 3: reality of real connection.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true as a society, and yeah, how we
- 30:41Speaker 1: actually get the power back, because we put so much
- 30:45Speaker 1: power into social media that even if you're like I
- 30:48Speaker 1: wrote a book and to sell another book, they ask me, well, like,
- 30:51Speaker 1: what's your numbers on social media? And I think that
- 30:54Speaker 1: it matters so much. And I now today I can't
- 30:57Speaker 1: even walk through a room without saying something about, uh, gee,
- 31:00Speaker 1: I need some blue shoes. And suddenly if the advertise,
- 31:04Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like I'm being followed by this
- 31:06Speaker 1: thing I'm carrying around. I mean, I know we need
- 31:09Speaker 1: to consciously take the power back by being more connected,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I think is what you're saying with other people, like
- 31:17Speaker 1: intentionally saying that.
- 31:19Speaker 4: That what replaced which is which?
- 31:24Speaker 3: Absolutely? And your question was just so right on, because
- 31:28Speaker 3: it's just so so very important, Kathy, to really address
- 31:32Speaker 3: that issue. So my advice is, let's educate our kids
- 31:36Speaker 3: just like, hey, this reality. We know it's not going away.
- 31:39Speaker 3: We know you're not we're not going to unplug you completely,
- 31:42Speaker 3: but let's all come together and decide, Okay, here are
- 31:47Speaker 3: the times and that that we can't do it, that
- 31:51Speaker 3: then that it's really important that we go you know,
- 31:59Speaker 3: we go for a walk together and we don't look
- 32:02Speaker 3: at it on our phone.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Nice, right, Nice?
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yep. Cindy, welcome to the Mom's Club. Tell us a
- 32:08Speaker 1: little bit about yourself. Do you use a question for MARYL?
- 32:12Speaker 3: Hi Per?
- 32:13Speaker 5: Can you Hi?
- 32:15Speaker 8: I am retired airline employee for twenty five years and
- 32:21Speaker 8: I come with a fifteen year old boy.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Yeah, and very proud mom.
- 32:25Speaker 8: And my question, firstly, thank you so much for sharing
- 32:30Speaker 8: your story with us today.
- 32:33Speaker 5: I too have mental health in my background.
- 32:37Speaker 8: My mom was manic, depressive, bipolar, and so growing up
- 32:41Speaker 8: with the ups and downs and the ebbs and flows and.
- 32:45Speaker 5: Not really understanding what it meant.
- 32:48Speaker 8: I'll be fifty five this year, so I didn't understand
- 32:52Speaker 8: what that meant when I was eight and nine years old,
- 32:56Speaker 8: working through treatments and whatnot. So thank you for giving
- 33:01Speaker 8: mental health a voice. And my question today would be,
- 33:07Speaker 8: it's taken you a while to get to the place
- 33:10Speaker 8: you're at today. In the moments that you wake up
- 33:15Speaker 8: and you're not feeling great, what is something you go
- 33:18Speaker 8: to that helps you get back into that good.
- 33:24Speaker 5: Thinking that positive as positive thoughts? What do you lean on?
- 33:30Speaker 4: Good question?
- 33:32Speaker 3: Thank you? Thank you for that question because it's it's
- 33:35Speaker 3: so important and it's actually super easy. One of the
- 33:39Speaker 3: greatest things that you can do if you're not feeling right,
- 33:43Speaker 3: or you wake up and it's just or things aren't
- 33:46Speaker 3: working you're you know, you're sitting in front of your
- 33:48Speaker 3: computer and just things aren't working out, I go for
- 33:51Speaker 3: a walk, and if I come back and I'm still
- 33:55Speaker 3: feeling that way, I go for another walk. Always, so
- 33:59Speaker 3: what we have to done stand about anxiety, depression and
- 34:03Speaker 3: all that stuff. It always changes. Always, Everything always shifts
- 34:09Speaker 3: because energy changes. Energy is always in movement, it's always
- 34:13Speaker 3: in motion, it's always changing. So to literally physically move
- 34:21Speaker 3: your body will help you to get out of that state.
- 34:24Speaker 3: I also, I'm very conscious of my mornings and how
- 34:30Speaker 3: I spend them. So how I wake up really will
- 34:35Speaker 3: define the kind of day that I will have. So
- 34:38Speaker 3: one of the big things that I try to do
- 34:41Speaker 3: when I wake up is to take a few moments,
- 34:46Speaker 3: you know, or a few minutes to be grateful. To
- 34:49Speaker 3: just think of all that I'm grateful for. You know,
- 34:51Speaker 3: my good health, I live in this beautiful place, my husband,
- 34:55Speaker 3: my you know, the really good friends of my life,
- 34:58Speaker 3: and just really say, I'll kind of whisper out loud,
- 35:04Speaker 3: what you're grateful for, your kids, you know, all of it,
- 35:07Speaker 3: and then really kind of try to be present throughout
- 35:13Speaker 3: the morning and visualize the day before you get up
- 35:18Speaker 3: out of bed. Visualize the day you want to have, right.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I call it kind of a the perfect day meditation.
- 35:25Speaker 3: So you're lying there and you just like all of
- 35:29Speaker 3: a sudden, you start thinking of just this really great day. Right,
- 35:33Speaker 3: I see myself, there's a lighting there this morning. I'm
- 35:38Speaker 3: gonna have a really good podcast with me, my new friends.
- 35:41Speaker 3: You know, I'm going to meet these lovely women. It's
- 35:43Speaker 3: all gonna be, you know, like an all, it's all
- 35:46Speaker 3: gonna manifest into this day. And ninety percent of the time,
- 35:52Speaker 3: And I also do that the night before, the night
- 35:54Speaker 3: before before I go to sleep, I try to digitalize.
- 35:57Speaker 3: You know, I'm not always successful. I'm not a perfectly
- 36:00Speaker 3: but I try to imagine the day that I want
- 36:02Speaker 3: to have the next day. And I'm telling you it
- 36:05Speaker 3: is the most effective thing I've ever done in my life.
- 36:09Speaker 3: If I have speaking engagements and I visualize it or whatever,
- 36:14Speaker 3: it's like the day just unfolds the way I Now.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Does it happen in a specific way, No, But the
- 36:21Speaker 3: day like I feel the way that I wanted to feel, right,
- 36:25Speaker 3: And that's we are. I feel like we're computers and
- 36:30Speaker 3: I think we can program ourselves, but I think we
- 36:33Speaker 3: forget that we have a lot of power that we
- 36:36Speaker 3: don't acknowledge in ourselves. So again it gets back back
- 36:41Speaker 3: to energy and frequency. Are we are electrical beings. That's
- 36:45Speaker 3: why I talk about groundings because when you put your
- 36:48Speaker 3: feet on the ground, there's an electrical impulse that comes
- 36:51Speaker 3: from the earth into your feet, and our feet have
- 36:55Speaker 3: thousands of pores, so you take in that energy. That's
- 36:58Speaker 3: what gets rid of the influence. But it's all of
- 37:01Speaker 3: those They sound like kooky things, but they're not. They
- 37:06Speaker 3: really really work and they really help with any kind
- 37:10Speaker 3: of issues that come up.
- 37:12Speaker 1: I love I I really do, so I really believe that. Angel.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Welcome to the Mom's Club. Tell us a little bit
- 37:19Speaker 1: about yourself, and do you have a question?
- 37:22Speaker 6: Yes, I'm actually at My background is radio and television,
- 37:27Speaker 6: and Cindy had the exact same question I have. But
- 37:29Speaker 6: you just said something that gave me another question. You
- 37:32Speaker 6: were talking about us being grounded, and it made me
- 37:37Speaker 6: think about the medical community itself. Do you think that
- 37:41Speaker 6: the medical community and being on medications and whatnot, has
- 37:46Speaker 6: made us adverse to holistic approaches to our health.
- 37:51Speaker 3: That's a really good question, and I want to be
- 37:54Speaker 3: very very careful in how I answered, because well, you know,
- 38:00Speaker 3: everybody has their stance on how we heal and how
- 38:04Speaker 3: we go about our lives.
- 38:05Speaker 6: Right.
- 38:06Speaker 3: So I am not a big medication fanatic at all.
- 38:12Speaker 3: I don't take anything. But that doesn't mean that I
- 38:15Speaker 3: think that everybody doesn't need some help or whatever, you know.
- 38:20Speaker 3: And when it comes to emergency medical care, there's nothing
- 38:24Speaker 3: better than the United States. But I do think that
- 38:28Speaker 3: our right I think especially when it comes to mental health,
- 38:32Speaker 3: because that's what I'm more of an expert at. I
- 38:35Speaker 3: think that medication can be a good break for somebody
- 38:40Speaker 3: who's having an issue, but it's not a solution. It's
- 38:45Speaker 3: a band aid. It gives us space to figure out
- 38:49Speaker 3: what we need to do. Right, We need to tell
- 38:52Speaker 3: our story, we need to whatever it is. But to
- 38:55Speaker 3: use medication as like a way to say, oh, I
- 38:58Speaker 3: don't need to address this, right, you know, because usually
- 39:03Speaker 3: our mental health problems come from some sort of trauma
- 39:06Speaker 3: that we buried inside, right, some story that we're not
- 39:09Speaker 3: willing to tell. So I do think that we kind
- 39:14Speaker 3: of overuse medication in this country, especially, we sort of
- 39:19Speaker 3: like i'd write, you know, we want to go to
- 39:22Speaker 3: a doctor and have him give us a pill and
- 39:24Speaker 3: you know we're going to lose weight and you know,
- 39:27Speaker 3: like instead of like, but I got to work out
- 39:29Speaker 3: and I got to eat properly, you know what I mean.
- 39:31Speaker 3: So there's like there's a balance, right, And I'm not
- 39:35Speaker 3: being judgmental when I say that for me, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 3: medication is is just not a solution for me. But
- 39:45Speaker 3: but I and I believe that these natural ways, like
- 39:49Speaker 3: the seven doctors I talked about, are really amazing ways
- 39:54Speaker 3: to find your solution, right, to find what works for you,
- 39:59Speaker 3: to to address that inner that inner voice, that intuition, intuition.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Yeah, taking a pill doesn't mean that you don't get
- 40:07Speaker 4: to do the work exactly exactly.
- 40:11Speaker 3: That's yeah, yeah, well said.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Well yeah, and in this country, we do have this
- 40:15Speaker 1: idea that you just take a pill and it's all
- 40:17Speaker 1: even when you're scientifically I know, during the pandemic, everybody said,
- 40:21Speaker 1: well just give me an antibiotic. Well it's a virus.
- 40:23Speaker 1: It's hard to explain to people that's not going to
- 40:25Speaker 1: cure you. But yeah, so we kind of over medicate
- 40:28Speaker 1: ourselves to Jan, Welcome to the Mom's club. Tell us
- 40:32Speaker 1: a little bit about yourself and being.
- 40:33Speaker 2: A question I real, Jan, everybody knows me about three
- 40:40Speaker 2: little letters. That my last name is Corkanus. We have
- 40:45Speaker 2: encountered each other several times in our lifetime at limousine
- 40:50Speaker 2: service for thirty years here in Dallas, Texas. I also,
- 40:57Speaker 2: you remember, uh, you said don't make the paper to
- 41:04Speaker 2: Laurie Muslow, and I you said, if you don't make
- 41:06Speaker 2: the paper, you're not getting paid. You opened up a
- 41:10Speaker 2: room here at the Crescent Hotel Bams.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Yeah, my gosh, I did well. Yes, the kid crad
- 41:20Speaker 3: as true. You remember a while ago, yeah, a while ago.
- 41:26Speaker 4: It was in the eighties.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I want to say, you.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Know, so we go back.
- 41:31Speaker 3: I was pregnant with my first daughter, so yes, I'm sorry.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Oh that's great.
- 41:37Speaker 2: And then now I have an autistic grown child at home.
- 41:43Speaker 2: It's a godson, and I didn't really have much on
- 41:47Speaker 2: his background. I got him about five years ago. And
- 41:51Speaker 2: it is true what you're saying. They just give you
- 41:54Speaker 2: the medication and and they just asked you a few
- 41:58Speaker 2: questions and that's about it. I got thrown into this
- 42:01Speaker 2: situation and I really didn't know how to navigate through it.
- 42:05Speaker 2: So now I definitely want to know how I can
- 42:10Speaker 2: help with your Texas Foundation.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Oh that's sweet.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Well it's a it's a hopefully a worldwide foundation. But wow,
- 42:21Speaker 3: well we'll talk later.
- 42:24Speaker 4: I can.
- 42:25Speaker 3: But I just want to say bravo for for taking
- 42:30Speaker 3: on a very that's it's not easy, I know, because
- 42:35Speaker 3: autism is a challenge at best, but there are we've
- 42:40Speaker 3: seen some really amazing results for autism through frequency, you know,
- 42:48Speaker 3: through frequency healing. And that's kind of a deeper conversation
- 42:55Speaker 3: on how that works, but there's, uh, there's a lot
- 42:58Speaker 3: of ways to kind of because I I think, in
- 43:01Speaker 3: my genius, not being a doctor, way that that that
- 43:08Speaker 3: there are it's like a neural pathway thing that happens
- 43:12Speaker 3: in the brain that needs to be disrupted, interrupted and shifted.
- 43:18Speaker 3: So I think that that's why frequency has been very
- 43:22Speaker 3: successful and kind of helping get people with autism to
- 43:27Speaker 3: a place where they're very high functioning. And and that's awesome.
- 43:32Speaker 3: But God probably to you for taking that on.
- 43:37Speaker 5: Nice to see you.
- 43:38Speaker 3: That's well, we don't like the paper, we won't get paid.
- 43:43Speaker 1: That's okay. I am going to remember that the paper, Well,
- 43:47Speaker 1: and you and you mentioned being pregnant with your your
- 43:50Speaker 1: first daughter, so your your children are grown now, right, there.
- 43:54Speaker 4: Are grown up.
- 43:56Speaker 3: I have my oldest is thirty there, she'll be thirty
- 44:00Speaker 3: eight in December, and she has a daughter who is
- 44:05Speaker 3: nineteen months old. So I am a grandmother. And then
- 44:08Speaker 3: my youngest is thirty five.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Oh wow. So what's that like being the mother of
- 44:15Speaker 1: adults with their own children. I mean, do you feel
- 44:18Speaker 1: like you've how much input do you have?
- 44:20Speaker 4: And yeah, you took the question right out of mind.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Well, I mean maybe some mothers are different, but I
- 44:28Speaker 3: feel like I'm perfectly happy not to have much input.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I'm just perfectly happy to show up and have the
- 44:36Speaker 3: best time ever with my grandchild. Because you and you
- 44:42Speaker 3: will know this when it happens to you, it is.
- 44:46Speaker 3: It's just a different situation. You don't have the same responsibility.
- 44:49Speaker 3: You don't have the anxiety, but you know, you didn't
- 44:52Speaker 3: not sleep. You know, you get to have them, you're
- 44:55Speaker 3: fully rested. You know, you have a lot of fun
- 44:59Speaker 3: with them. It's just a different thing. I mean there's
- 45:01Speaker 3: certain things I go, hell, they're you know, the baby's
- 45:04Speaker 3: still sleeping with them. Okay, you know, like I I
- 45:08Speaker 3: just keep my moud. It's like, it's not my journey,
- 45:11Speaker 3: right and and by the way, she my granddaughter, is amazing,
- 45:16Speaker 3: so it must be working. Yeah. I've never been one
- 45:20Speaker 3: to think that I needed to control their journey or
- 45:26Speaker 3: their situation. So I'm I just love. Being a grandmother
- 45:30Speaker 3: is really kind of extraordinary. And it also shifts your
- 45:34Speaker 3: relationship with your child, you know, like my daughters and
- 45:38Speaker 3: I being you know, having two adults as as children.
- 45:44Speaker 3: It's what happens is there's this shift into you're always mom,
- 45:49Speaker 3: but you're also a friend. And that's kind of beautiful.
- 45:53Speaker 3: And and I didn't realize how profound that would be
- 45:58Speaker 3: because I lost my mother when I was much younger
- 46:01Speaker 3: and we hadn't gotten to that place and she was
- 46:04Speaker 3: sick and you know all of that. So it's it's beautiful.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Well, that's very that's awesome. Actually, I can't wait to
- 46:11Speaker 1: be a grandmother myself because I'm just that fun. I
- 46:14Speaker 1: was always I like to have fun with the kids.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you would be there, want to shower them with
- 46:19Speaker 4: and come back as your grand they wouldn't be Yeah, So.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to that when I have none of
- 46:25Speaker 1: the other responsibilities like I'll just let it their parents
- 46:28Speaker 1: deal with the fallout of they're very spoiled because their
- 46:31Speaker 1: grandmother spoils them. Well, thank you so much, Merriel. I
- 46:34Speaker 1: can't believe the time has passed. Where do we find
- 46:37Speaker 1: your podcast and what's your project? What we look forward
- 46:41Speaker 1: to it.
- 46:41Speaker 4: It's called it's.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Called Outcomes the Sun and it's on you know, YouTube
- 46:45Speaker 3: and Spotify and Apple and whatever wherever you find your podcast.
- 46:51Speaker 3: And then I also have the foundation, which is maryel
- 46:54Speaker 3: Hemingway Foundation dot orgy and that's coming away with one
- 46:58Speaker 3: M M A R I E. L. Just you know,
- 47:01Speaker 3: in case you're not familiar with my grandfather's work. And
- 47:06Speaker 3: then I am producing. I've got two television shows kind
- 47:10Speaker 3: of based on my family history and legacy. It's they're
- 47:15Speaker 3: not documentaries. They're based on my grandfather in the twenties
- 47:20Speaker 3: in Paris and then then he's in Cuba. And then
- 47:24Speaker 3: there's a part of the part of the show which
- 47:27Speaker 3: will be about me and my sisters in the sixties,
- 47:30Speaker 3: seventies and eighties. But the through line is mental health
- 47:34Speaker 3: kind of that's the unspoken through line of that project.
- 47:39Speaker 3: And yeah, I've just got a lot going on. My
- 47:43Speaker 3: husband created a chamber that pressurizes you at different altitudes.
- 47:48Speaker 3: So we've got a health and wellness facility here in
- 47:51Speaker 3: southern California on Pacific Coast Highway which we're about to
- 47:55Speaker 3: open in another month, and that'll have hot plunges and
- 48:01Speaker 3: cold plunge and saunas and all kinds of different things.
- 48:04Speaker 1: That's very exciting.

- 48:18Speaker 1: the documentary. I can't wait wait to watch that.
- 48:21Speaker 4: And we have to go to this punge.
- 48:24Speaker 1: For sure, we're going to plunge a lot. I think
- 48:26Speaker 1: we're really going to enjoy that.
