- 0:08Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome into another episode of
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Checho Daily. It's Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter
- 0:15Speaker 1: for Inside the Birds dot Com, and we have football
- 0:18Speaker 1: to talk about, because on Wednesday, the Eagles returned to
- 0:22Speaker 1: the practice field for the first time since mandatory Mini Camp.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And while mandatory Mini Camp very much felt like, at
- 0:30Speaker 1: least on the last day of mandatory Mini camp, the
- 0:33Speaker 1: last day of school, today very much felt like the
- 0:37Speaker 1: first day of school for the Philadelphia Eagles and for
- 0:41Speaker 1: those of us who cover the team, and the vibes
- 0:44Speaker 1: were high. There was a lot of excitement to get
- 0:46Speaker 1: back to football. The seasons right around the corner. But
- 0:49Speaker 1: of course the groundwork is laid right now during training camp.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And we got some news before practice.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Jonathan Grenard, the Eagles veteran edge rusher who is their
- 1:02Speaker 1: top pass rusher, has been placed on the or will
- 1:06Speaker 1: be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list the
- 1:09Speaker 1: PUP list, with a PEX strain that he sustained while
- 1:13Speaker 1: lifting prior to training camp.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So I should also.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Add that it's not expected to be a long term concern,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and he is a veteran, and he is someone who
- 1:27Speaker 1: has played a lot of football and it doesn't seem
- 1:31Speaker 1: like the team has a lot of concern there. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: I think it was probably underscored by Howie Roseman's comments
- 1:38Speaker 1: prior to practice where he says, one of the things
- 1:42Speaker 1: we know about Grenard is he's going to be ready
- 1:44Speaker 1: to play. Training camp is so important, practice is so important.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But when you have a guy that prepares the way
- 1:50Speaker 1: he does, who has the experience in the NFL the
- 1:52Speaker 1: way he does, you know he's going to be ready
- 1:54Speaker 1: to play when we start the season. So it is
- 1:59Speaker 1: something that you want to keep an eye on. Of course,
- 2:02Speaker 1: because Jonathan Grenard did not participate in team drills during
- 2:06Speaker 1: the spring and that was all part of the plan.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But then now he's placed on the pup list. But
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know why the injury sustained while lifting prior to
- 2:15Speaker 1: training camp.
- 2:17Speaker 2: But you can't help.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But wonder he did have the shoulder injury last season
- 2:22Speaker 1: with the Vikings. It was the right shoulder injury and
- 2:26Speaker 1: he had a procedure on it. Who knows, but the
- 2:29Speaker 1: shoulder and the pack are pretty close. Maybe I don't know,
- 2:32Speaker 1: but it is something to keep an eye on. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: if there were a player that could withstand or that
- 2:42Speaker 1: you would feel okay with not practicing. It's probably Jonathan Garnard,
- 2:46Speaker 1: who is a true pro. He's played for two different teams,
- 2:50Speaker 1: two different systems, and it now gives Jay Looks Hunt
- 2:54Speaker 1: and Nolan Smith increased opportunities to go out there, make
- 2:59Speaker 1: play and continue to hone their craft. So there's the
- 3:05Speaker 1: peck strain for Jonathan Grenard, and other than that, the
- 3:08Speaker 1: Eagles had a healthy roster. They were all practicing. Of course,
- 3:13Speaker 1: that's the first day, so largely to be expected. But
- 3:19Speaker 1: let's get into the practices because the practice notes because
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Eagles continue to rotate the backup quarterbacks in Tanner
- 3:28Speaker 1: McKee and Andy Dalton, and Nick Sirianni indicated that that
- 3:32Speaker 1: was going to be part of the plan still moving
- 3:34Speaker 1: forward when he spoke prior to practice, and first up
- 3:38Speaker 1: with the twos was Tanner McKee. Then Andy Dalton got
- 3:41Speaker 1: some run, but Tanner McKee got the initial nod there
- 3:46Speaker 1: and before practice even began, when they're going through just
- 3:50Speaker 1: the warm up, Droelser throwing routes on air, Jalen Hurts
- 3:53Speaker 1: and Tanner.
- 3:54Speaker 2: McKee were on the field. Was split.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So try to bear with me here Tanner McKee and
- 4:00Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts were standing apart from one another, but they
- 4:03Speaker 1: were throwing to different players. And then behind them they
- 4:06Speaker 1: had Cole Peyton and Andy Dalton and some of the
- 4:10Speaker 1: players who were there with Andy Dalton and Cole Peyton,
- 4:14Speaker 1: Samari Torre, Danny gray Stone, Smart, Johnny Wilson, Britton Covey,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Eli Stowers, Qus Watkins, Da Kwon Wright, and Eric Azukanma.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But one thing that I noticed when they were running
- 4:33Speaker 1: routes on air is how securely both Elijah Moore and
- 4:37Speaker 1: Darius Cooper catch the football.
- 4:40Speaker 2: They're really reliable.
- 4:41Speaker 1: They don't have the twitchiness or the explosiveness, but they
- 4:45Speaker 1: get in and out of breaks and they catch nearly
- 4:47Speaker 1: everything that comes their direction.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And we'll get to Darius Cooper a little bit later.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But when the Eagles opened in eleven on eleven, and
- 4:55Speaker 1: this is something that's going to be a talking point
- 4:58Speaker 1: throughout the summer, they opened in base so your safeties
- 5:02Speaker 1: were Drew mccouba and Cooper Degene and Marcus EPs came in.
- 5:08Speaker 1: When the Eagles went to nickel where Cooper Degen came down,
- 5:11Speaker 1: that's to be expected. Jalox Hunt got off to a
- 5:15Speaker 1: really fast start in the eleven on eleven period, and he,
- 5:19Speaker 1: to me, was my.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Player of the day. He got what it looked like.
- 5:23Speaker 1: He looked like he got Jordani Alatta to Jordan a
- 5:26Speaker 1: lotta flinched, which drew jalox Hunt offsides. As the anticipation
- 5:32Speaker 1: was building, they had thunderstruck that was blaring through the speakers,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and I just saw jox Hunt clapping, So presumably was
- 5:39Speaker 1: that one was on my lotta But jalox Hunt was
- 5:43Speaker 1: really factoring into the backfield.
- 5:45Speaker 2: He was turning the corner well.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And there was another play where he met Tank Bigsby
- 5:51Speaker 1: to the spot.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It was a short pass into the flat.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Jalox Hunt was right. There would have been a big
- 5:57Speaker 1: hit had it been, you know.
- 5:59Speaker 2: A game situation.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But I just think that Jay looks Hunt, and it
- 6:03Speaker 1: goes back to everything that I was saying in the
- 6:05Speaker 1: off season. The athleticism and the innate ability that he
- 6:11Speaker 1: has is now sort of the knowledge that comes with
- 6:17Speaker 1: playing in playing snaps and playing a couple of seasons
- 6:21Speaker 1: is now sort of meeting the athleticism and the traits
- 6:25Speaker 1: that he has, and it's kind of really been fun
- 6:27Speaker 1: to watch him progress over the past couple of years, and.
- 6:32Speaker 2: He again he's filled out his frame.
- 6:34Speaker 1: He's someone that I think has a more refined approach
- 6:38Speaker 1: when it comes to his pass rush. He's not locked
- 6:40Speaker 1: in any one particular method. He's able to have some
- 6:44Speaker 1: counter moves, and his attention to detail.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Is very apparent.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But now he has such a good understanding of his
- 6:52Speaker 1: role within this defense, at least seemingly that he's now
- 6:55Speaker 1: able to lean into his athleticism and and when he's
- 7:01Speaker 1: turned loose.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It is a sight to behold.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So I thought that without going too overboard here for
- 7:07Speaker 1: one practice that Jay looks Hunt looked looked pretty good
- 7:10Speaker 1: to start.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts had a solid practice.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I thought that he delivered the ball with touch and accuracy.
- 7:19Speaker 2: The there was a lot.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Of under center play action at play today, and that's
- 7:25Speaker 1: really going to be a hallmark of this Shawn Manny
- 7:27Speaker 1: and offense. But I thought by and Lauris, Jayalen Hurts
- 7:30Speaker 1: got the ball out quickly and on time. He delivered
- 7:34Speaker 1: it with with with accuracy, put receivers in position where
- 7:37Speaker 1: only they could catch it. Now, there were there were
- 7:41Speaker 1: a handful of throws that I'm sure he'd like to
- 7:44Speaker 1: have back. But for day one, where all eyes are
- 7:46Speaker 1: on you and this Eagles offense, that's the prominent storyline
- 7:50Speaker 1: going into training camp, and it will be really bleeding
- 7:53Speaker 1: into the fall. Here. I thought that Jaylen checked off
- 7:56Speaker 1: some boxes and handled things pretty well. There was a
- 7:59Speaker 1: lot of middle of the field throws in today's practice. Now,
- 8:03Speaker 1: early in the session, Quinya Mitchell deflected a mid range
- 8:08Speaker 1: throw that Jaywin tried to rifle in there to don Tavian.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Wicks might have been a tad behind Dantavian, but I
- 8:14Speaker 1: would more so put the onus on the receiver to
- 8:18Speaker 1: make those catches, especially one who's gonna have a pretty
- 8:22Speaker 1: sizable role in the offense. That one stuck out to
- 8:26Speaker 1: me right there, Dallas Goddard dropped a short throw on
- 8:31Speaker 1: and he was wide open. So I don't necessarily fault those.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I don't fault Jaywen Hurts there. You got to make
- 8:38Speaker 1: those plays.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Excuse me. He threw Jaywin threw a really.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Nice touch pass in the intermediary levels of the field.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Was a deep middle shot to Darius Cooper, who laid
- 8:53Speaker 1: out for the pass.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I didn't have to lay out.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I didn't have to do anything too extraordinary, but it
- 8:59Speaker 1: was a good adjustment to get to the football selling
- 9:03Speaker 1: out for it. It looked like Cooper Degen may have
- 9:05Speaker 1: been in coverage on the play. There's no replay in
- 9:08Speaker 1: training camp, so you're you're going off of memory, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: I quickly jot things down as we get ready to
- 9:14Speaker 1: move on to the next play.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I didn't think that Tanner McKee was overly sharp.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Now he always threw a handful of passes in today's practice.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But I am very fascinated with this number two quarterback
- 9:30Speaker 1: spot and how they go about rotating and allocating snaps
- 9:36Speaker 1: because even as the as the second quarterback, you're gonna
- 9:39Speaker 1: see a decent amount of reps.
- 9:41Speaker 2: So I want to see how much they Hey.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic, long lines,
- 9:50Speaker 3: We've all been there, But when it comes to your cannabis,
- 9:53Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for
- 9:58Speaker 3: sports fans. Just minutes out to Philly, with plenty of
- 10:01Speaker 3: free parking. You'll be in and out fast, no hassle,
- 10:04Speaker 3: no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience. Camedn
- 10:08Speaker 3: Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff makes
- 10:12Speaker 3: sure you feel taken care of every time you walk in. Plus,
- 10:16Speaker 3: they carry only the best quality cannabis at the fairest prices,
- 10:21Speaker 3: so whether you're stocking up for the tailgate, the watch party,
- 10:24Speaker 3: or celebrating a big win, you know you're getting the
- 10:27Speaker 3: good stuff without overpaying. They even show love to the
- 10:31Speaker 3: community with specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare
- 10:36Speaker 3: pros camedn Apothecary, Top quality cannabis, great prices and an
- 10:41Speaker 3: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 10:45Speaker 1: They sort of tap into the you know, the veteran
- 10:48Speaker 1: prowess of someone like an Andy Dalton and get him
- 10:51Speaker 1: some of those reps and if that sort of persists
- 10:54Speaker 1: throughout the summer. But I thought that Cole Payton had
- 10:58Speaker 1: some nice throws in this There was one where he
- 11:02Speaker 1: showed some fearlessness pushing it down the field through a
- 11:05Speaker 1: deep shot to Ques Watkins who extended for the ball.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He sort of he didn't necessarily have to climb the ladder,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but he extended for it. Keithley Ringo was in coverage
- 11:18Speaker 1: and then he had another nice one at the end
- 11:20Speaker 1: of practice to Britain Covey where he just sort of
- 11:23Speaker 1: dropped it in there.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Britain got it, and it.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Underscored the fearlessness and maybe the cun slinger's mentality that
- 11:31Speaker 1: a Cole Peyton might have. But you don't often see
- 11:34Speaker 1: that from young quarterbacks, and certainly not Day three quarterbacks
- 11:38Speaker 1: who are trying to find their footing early on. Reps
- 11:41Speaker 1: are extremely scarce when you're the fourth quarterback.
- 11:45Speaker 2: But I thought that the fact that I can.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Already recall two throws vividly that he had that were
- 11:50Speaker 1: notable to me tells you that, you know, he's.
- 11:54Speaker 2: The moment's not too big for him.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Now we'll have to see if he can build off
- 11:58Speaker 1: of that, and he's still is gonna have some you know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm curious to see how mechanically he's able to.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Develop this summer in time.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And when you don't get those reps during the team drills,
- 12:13Speaker 1: that's something that that's kind of difficult. That's why the
- 12:15Speaker 1: developmental periods at the end of practice are so paramount
- 12:18Speaker 1: for not only Cole Payton but younger players like Eli
- 12:22Speaker 1: Stowers and others. So that right there was something and
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm scanning my notes here, you guys are getting me
- 12:30Speaker 1: right off the practice field essentially, And I haven't had
- 12:33Speaker 1: a chance to really log all my thoughts, you know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: in a pullet point or anything like that. But Jalen
- 12:40Speaker 1: Carter I thought, you know, had a nice practice. He
- 12:44Speaker 1: was out there, he moves well. He looks to be
- 12:47Speaker 1: in great shape. I thought that before practice. It was
- 12:52Speaker 1: you know, you hear Nick Sirianni talking about the talking
- 12:58Speaker 1: about how he's in Phenomenal was the word that he
- 13:01Speaker 1: used and talked about his weight and how he did
- 13:04Speaker 1: in the conditioning test. It showed out there and it's
- 13:07Speaker 1: away won practice, So we're gonna put everything in the
- 13:09Speaker 1: context here.
- 13:10Speaker 2: But he moved well. He there was one play where he.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Shed the block, shed one of the guards and met
- 13:19Speaker 1: Sakuon Barkley in the hole, which would have been for
- 13:23Speaker 1: a loss.
- 13:23Speaker 2: That was durding eleven on eleven's.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And then for those wondering that, the second team offensive
- 13:30Speaker 1: line was Fred Johnson at left tackle, Michael Jordan at
- 13:37Speaker 1: left guard, Jake Major's at center, Drew Kendall at right guard.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Right tackle was rookie Mark hil Bell, and.
- 13:47Speaker 1: There was a good situational throw from Andy Dalton who
- 13:52Speaker 1: rifled won in the middle of the field to Johnny Wilson.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Was an inbreaking route which Andy Dalton threw pretty flawlessly
- 13:59Speaker 1: in the spring to Johnny Wilson. So they're starting to
- 14:02Speaker 1: get a little bit of a chemistry there, it seems.
- 14:05Speaker 2: But he threw it.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I believe it was between cornerback Ambrey Thomas and might
- 14:09Speaker 1: have been Jeremiah Trotter Junior. But it was a nice
- 14:12Speaker 1: throw there by Andy Dalton, sort of rifling one in there.
- 14:17Speaker 2: The third team defensive line.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Among those players you're seeing, you know, Gabe hall u
- 14:22Speaker 1: r Bernard.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Ty Robinson and Ty Robinson.
- 14:26Speaker 1: For those wondering, because I got a lot of ty
- 14:27Speaker 1: Robinson questions last summer. He didn't do a ton in practice.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It didn't really There's nothing that he did that made
- 14:36Speaker 1: the notebook or anything like that other than where he
- 14:38Speaker 1: was in terms of the pecking order, and he got
- 14:41Speaker 1: some work on the developmental team as well. That backup
- 14:45Speaker 1: yet that some of the players who were on at
- 14:47Speaker 1: the Linebackers were Deontay Lawson and Chance Campbell.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Safeties were Cole Wiznski and j. T. Gray.
- 14:55Speaker 1: The corners in that situation were Jackry and Bennett and
- 14:58Speaker 1: Ambry Thomas. Also during that session, Andy in that particular
- 15:03Speaker 1: segment of practice, Andy Dalton hit Samouri Torre on a
- 15:06Speaker 1: nice throw along the sideline. It was a mid range
- 15:10Speaker 1: throat looked like a crossing route. But I also paid
- 15:16Speaker 1: attention to some of the special.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Teams and the punt returner.
- 15:19Speaker 1: The punt returners in particular, and the three players who
- 15:22Speaker 1: were back there were Britain Covey, McKay lemon, and Elijah Moore.
- 15:29Speaker 1: All three players are interesting, but I want to talk
- 15:31Speaker 1: a second about McKay lemon. That would make some sense
- 15:36Speaker 1: because the other two players are on the roster fringes.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But with McKay lemon, you could see the short area
- 15:43Speaker 1: bursts that he has tracking the football and ball security
- 15:46Speaker 1: is going to be hugely important obviously when it comes
- 15:49Speaker 1: to returning punts and putting your team in good field position.
- 15:53Speaker 2: There, I could see it. I could see it as
- 15:56Speaker 2: a rookie.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Especially depending on how much you're going to lean on
- 16:01Speaker 1: him early in the season. I imagine that's going to
- 16:03Speaker 1: be a lot of uh DeVante Smith and Dan Tavian Wicks.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So maybe it would make some sense to get mackay
- 16:10Speaker 1: lemon back there, especially since there's no obvious candidate to
- 16:14Speaker 1: take on that role. Elijah Moore is interesting because you
- 16:19Speaker 1: can see his ability as a receiver and he's not
- 16:21Speaker 1: twitched up. He's not explosive or especially dynamic, but he's reliable.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He catches everything, and.
- 16:30Speaker 1: As amid fifth or sixth receiver, if you're able to
- 16:35Speaker 1: demonstrate added value as a punt returner, maybe he could
- 16:40Speaker 1: elbow his way into the roster conversation.
- 16:42Speaker 2: It's something that's really interesting.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I was also paying attention to long snapper Rocco Underwood
- 16:47Speaker 1: during this special team's portion of practice, where you're you're
- 16:50Speaker 1: watching the timing and the timeliness of his snaps.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And I thought that for the.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Small amount of that I that I keyed in on
- 16:59Speaker 1: him before pivot to the punt returners. I thought he
- 17:02Speaker 1: delivered the ball, you know, pretty quickly and timely, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: there was and it was on target, another important facet
- 17:08Speaker 1: of being a long snapper. But the personal protectors for
- 17:11Speaker 1: those curious in this order, Will Shipley, Marcus Epps, Cole Wiznewsky,
- 17:17Speaker 1: and Maximus Pulley. I think that it's important to know
- 17:22Speaker 1: that Will Shipley is the Eagle's personal protector on punts,
- 17:25Speaker 1: but it is notable that some of those other names
- 17:27Speaker 1: that were repping back there, Rocco would snap it and
- 17:31Speaker 1: the personal protector would sort of simulate like they were
- 17:35Speaker 1: shedding a block and then.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Try to, you know, get upfield.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Eleven on eleven's Later in the session, Jalen Hurts threw
- 17:42Speaker 1: a really nice pass over the middle to Dantavian Wicks
- 17:48Speaker 1: who It was a low pass but he was able.
- 17:51Speaker 2: To grab that.
- 17:53Speaker 1: There was a deep dig that Jalen threw to DeVante
- 17:55Speaker 1: Smith on the right side of the field. He got
- 17:59Speaker 1: the best of Quinna Mitchell on that. That might have
- 18:02Speaker 1: been Jalen Hurts's best throw of the day, the one
- 18:04Speaker 1: that he had late in practice too to DeVante Smith.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But there's there's a lot of the there should be
- 18:16Speaker 1: a lot of optimism moving forward. You could you could
- 18:18Speaker 1: see the vision of the offense. They're doing some different things.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Nothing overly dramatic for day one, but I did notice
- 18:25Speaker 1: a lot of under center play action. There were weren't
- 18:28Speaker 1: as many tight splitz is there at as I saw
- 18:31Speaker 1: during the spring. But again it's the first day of
- 18:34Speaker 1: training camp. Things sort of develop, grow and evolve as
- 18:37Speaker 1: the days progress. Here but I thought that Jalen Hurts
- 18:41Speaker 1: was was. He had a good practice and a couple
- 18:45Speaker 1: of those throws were drops. He's not be getting a
- 18:49Speaker 1: new offense just like everyone is. And then on the
- 18:50Speaker 1: defensive side, I thought Jay looks Hunt really shined and
- 18:54Speaker 1: in the practice aj Panessa got a decent amount of
- 18:59Speaker 1: work with the second team. And again everybody is bumped
- 19:02Speaker 1: up a little bit in the pecking order because of
- 19:04Speaker 1: Jonathan Grenard's absence. But I thought Epanessa he looked like
- 19:09Speaker 1: a player who's played a little bit, and you know,
- 19:12Speaker 1: he he was moving around. Well, he's a big guy,
- 19:17Speaker 1: but I thought he moved a little bit more fluidly.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Than I expected. But that's something that I'll be keeping
- 19:23Speaker 2: an eye on.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Is he someone that maybe all of a sudden factors
- 19:27Speaker 1: in as a potential fourth edge rusher and maybe is
- 19:30Speaker 1: able to leap m a Katie in that pecking order.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Trotter Junior another practice where you can see the instincts
- 19:40Speaker 1: on display. Everything he does is very detailed, and those
- 19:44Speaker 1: are the things that you like if you're Vic Vangil
- 19:46Speaker 1: Whicheremiah Trotter, the instincts, the detail I'm running through, the
- 19:50Speaker 1: different positions. In my mind, here Michael Carter got some.
- 19:54Speaker 1: You know, he was on the field quite a bit
- 19:57Speaker 1: in this practice. Michael Carter the second and I've said
- 20:00Speaker 1: this before, but having seen him now moving around and
- 20:04Speaker 1: getting getting in the mix a little bit, I mean,
- 20:08Speaker 1: this is this is the way that this position, the
- 20:10Speaker 1: safety position is evolving in the NFL. He moves well,
- 20:14Speaker 1: he has good short area quickness, and he's an intelligent
- 20:17Speaker 1: football player. I understand why Marcus EPs is entering as
- 20:21Speaker 1: the favorite, and he should be. He has a lot
- 20:23Speaker 1: of games under his belt, I think ninety four. But
- 20:26Speaker 1: Michael Carter brings you a different dimension to that position,
- 20:30Speaker 1: built similarly to Macouba, who also is in a big safety,
- 20:34Speaker 1: a traditional sized safety. But there's something to be said
- 20:38Speaker 1: for the versatility that they both pose and their coverage acumen.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And I think when you look at the way that
- 20:45Speaker 1: this position is headed in the NFL and what you
- 20:47Speaker 1: need to be able to do and not necessarily lean
- 20:50Speaker 1: into being a one dimensional player, that's something that I'm
- 20:54Speaker 1: really curious to see how it develops, because this is
- 20:57Speaker 1: this is.
- 20:57Speaker 2: All new really to Michael Carter. Certainly, this sort.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Of expanded capacity, but I think that he has the
- 21:04Speaker 1: qualities two to earn it, to earn a spot, to
- 21:09Speaker 1: earn a spot as a potential as a safety opposite
- 21:12Speaker 1: Makooba when the Eagles are a nickel.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I think he has that ability.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But there there's a lot to unpack, and that's kind
- 21:19Speaker 1: of my immediate thoughts coming off the first practice.
- 21:23Speaker 2: A lot of the a lot of players spoke afterwards.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Uh Jalen Carter, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, DeVante Smith spoke,
- 21:32Speaker 1: Lane Johnson spoke, Zach Blond spoke, Jordan Davis spoke. So
- 21:36Speaker 1: there's a lot of quotes there that I still have
- 21:38Speaker 1: yet on, you know, transcribe and work through. But it
- 21:42Speaker 1: was great to see Jaylen Carter smiling. He talked about
- 21:47Speaker 1: the story. Uh.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts said that he.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Put a you know, he had a five dollar bill
- 21:52Speaker 1: in his bag and he patted it on, you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: he patted it on Jalen Carter's chest and said, I'm
- 21:58Speaker 1: going to put five on top of that, and it
- 22:00Speaker 1: was sort of a lighthearted moment there.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Jaywen Hurts also talked about just the.
- 22:06Speaker 1: You know, the togetherness, the close knit nature of this
- 22:10Speaker 1: Eagles team, and I think something that was palpable to
- 22:17Speaker 1: me was it felt like it felt loose. It felt
- 22:21Speaker 1: like they were focused, but they also felt like it
- 22:25Speaker 1: was a little bit more.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Of of a looser bunch who were out there. They
- 22:28Speaker 2: were enjoying the moment.
- 22:30Speaker 1: They were coming together as a team, and that's so
- 22:32Speaker 1: important and that's something that Nick Sirianni talks a lot about.
- 22:36Speaker 1: In fact, jaywhen Hurts discussed this in his press conference
- 22:42Speaker 1: that the when he if you remember, I talked about
- 22:46Speaker 1: him having the you know, the organized workout in Florida
- 22:49Speaker 1: with some of the skilled players, and he talked about
- 22:52Speaker 1: the importance of bringing everybody together and he said one
- 22:56Speaker 1: hundred percent alignment and zero entitlement. And I think that
- 22:59Speaker 1: maybe best encapsulates what I'm trying to illustrate here, that
- 23:03Speaker 1: that's kind of what it felt like on day one.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And it's a new era of Eagles football with a
- 23:08Speaker 1: new offense, no Aj Brown and there it just has
- 23:13Speaker 1: a feeling of a new era that that's working towards
- 23:18Speaker 1: doing something. I'm not quite ready to say they're ready
- 23:22Speaker 1: to do something special yet because it's way too premature
- 23:25Speaker 1: for that, but I can see the vision and I
- 23:28Speaker 1: think the vibes are where you would expect them, You
- 23:30Speaker 1: would hope, if you're a fan listening, that they would
- 23:32Speaker 1: be at this stage of the game.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And I think that that should ultimately.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Relate to I mean, I think ultimately that's going to
- 23:42Speaker 1: be reflected in the on field performance.
- 23:45Speaker 2: So with that, that's going to do it for this
- 23:46Speaker 2: episode of The Check o'delli.
- 23:48Speaker 4: I'm Andrew Decheco and I'll catch you all on the
- 23:51Speaker 4: next one.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Foo
