- 0:33Hamster with a blump. Pen knife for doing quicker,
- 0:35quicker, quicker. Go.
- 0:42Welcome back to Hamster with a Blunt Pen Knife, the Doctor Who
- 0:46commentary podcast that doesn't know how much form is too much.
- 0:51Can you ever have too much foam? Yes, I love being covered in it
- 0:55me, and I'm not being rude there.
- 0:57I love a bubble bath and I I keep getting told off for using
- 1:01a whole like radox in one bath. That's a lot of fun.
- 1:07That's a lot of Radox. I know.
- 1:09Well, sometimes I do pretend I'm Patrick trouting in the bath,
- 1:12going, Oh my word. There are images that will be
- 1:18now engrained in the mind of the listener the whole week.
- 1:22Yes. I look very nice as well.
- 1:24Thank you very much. Still, for those of you who are
- 1:28just joining us, I am Fraser. I am joined with Si Say hi Si.
- 1:33Hi, Si. And Josie.
- 1:35Hi, Joe. I'm marching on a Welsh cake.
- 1:39Hello, You're well traveled with your food this week.
- 1:41I know, right from Newcastle. A Welsh cake from Sainsbury's
- 1:49continue. Right, I was.
- 1:51Well, I was just going to recap on what's happened on the story
- 1:54so far. So the Doctor and Sarah Jane
- 1:59have landed in the Antarctic. They found a crazy looking seed
- 2:05pod, which is all went a bit thing from one of the world.
- 2:08Boises turned up from Only Fools and Horses and tried to kill
- 2:12them. They went back to the UK.
- 2:15It's all went a bit of ventures and where are we now guys?
- 2:19What's all of episode 5? So we're sort of in a Manor
- 2:23house in the country right now. Amelia Ducar has just done her
- 2:27espionage, but there's dossier, old lady, you know consider me
- 2:31available for any future assignments to Roberts.
- 2:34We've just had a cliffhanger that shouldn't work of a big
- 2:37wobbly plant coming towards the screen, yeah.
- 2:43Hang on a minute. What?
- 2:46That's the wrong, bloody story. In fact, if someone's listening
- 2:48to this right now, they'll be very confused.
- 2:52If someone's listening, anyone, Does anyone listen to us?
- 3:00Episode 5 What's the cliffhanger to the last episode I can't even
- 3:05remember? Which?
- 3:07Which story? Of the season Death, Fraser.
- 3:10It's Zoe and she is big silhouette.
- 3:13She's hiding a great, great big light.
- 3:16I forget that. Yes, because the mirror line has
- 3:19been cracked out for about the three thousandth time.
- 3:23And beautifully too. And Phipps unfortunately, is no
- 3:27longer with. Us he has.
- 3:29Had his four episodes and went off to the BBC bar.
- 3:34The chips are in for Phipps. And the poor old phone machine
- 3:44is pumping it out at a rate of knots across Hampstead Heath.
- 3:47Yes. Do you reckon, do you reckon the
- 3:49kind of like had did that few from the deep and just went oh
- 3:52that was great, right, get the foam in lads.
- 3:55Awesome. We'll have some more of that job
- 3:58lot and. Then had any foam since the end
- 4:00of the Dominators, so it's been a little while.
- 4:03And then a. Lot of fun at the end of the
- 4:05Dominators, yeah? And I've kind of turned and
- 4:08went, bad news, you know, we're going like, you know, proper
- 4:12serious next season. Would be on earth boned.
- 4:15It's all going to be you know, serious hot Tyfi.
- 4:17It's going to be no foam, guys, What am I doing?
- 4:21With this, the job lot in the back I'll.
- 4:25Use it all in this one. The last person to use the foam
- 4:28machine is Michael Ferguson, in color in the clause of Access.
- 4:34Oh. Does he?
- 4:35Oh yeah, that that quantum accelerator thingy.
- 4:38That's it, yeah. But there it genuinely just
- 4:41looks like. There's something about it in
- 4:46black and white, isn't it? Because I'll tell you what, I
- 4:48was just about to confess that. Do you remember the beginning of
- 4:50the mind dropper when you know the volcanic planet of Dolkis is
- 4:55subsuming in the TARDIS and you see the TARDIS materialize of
- 5:00all the foam around it? As a child, I was convinced that
- 5:05was lava. That's what lava looked like.
- 5:07Absolutely convinced. But now unfortunately polished
- 5:11up on, you know, VH, not VHS DVD.
- 5:15I can see what it really is. But yeah, it just goes to show,
- 5:18you know, you can convince a child.
- 5:20Well, well. You've just got a suspended
- 5:23disappoint. If you haven't you, you've just
- 5:24got to sit there and go. Actually, lava doesn't look like
- 5:26film and just go. That's what they're going for,
- 5:29they're going for. Lava on Docus looks like this.
- 5:33Well, there you go. And I see Martian sea pod
- 5:36exploding on the Earth. Also looks like SOAP studs, yes,
- 5:44we see in action. Should we go and see all the the
- 5:47martial larva? Right.
- 5:50I'm so pleased you didn't steal my beginning to episode 6,
- 5:54because you people have a habit of doing this, you know, nicking
- 5:57all the best intros. In many ways, we have the same
- 6:00mind. In five. 4. 321.
- 6:09Off we go. What do you?
- 6:12Suggesting we're the same Time Lord so.
- 6:16Do you think then, Fraser, if you think the Seats of Death is
- 6:21average, and I think you probably think the Space Pirates
- 6:27is fairly average, I think most people think it's average at
- 6:31best. So we on a sort of like a
- 6:36decline as we head towards the war games.
- 6:39What kind of running out esteem I think this is this is the
- 6:43problem with this this episode this story.
- 6:47So you know it's it's indicative what's happening behind the
- 6:50scenes at the minute you know that you know the production is
- 6:54it's kind of sorry. It's chaos behind the scenes.
- 7:01It's it's in a dreadful, dreadful.
- 7:03Size, yeah. Yeah.
- 7:04Yeah, you know, producers. Have you guys heard?
- 7:07The prison in space, The big Finnish version of the prison in
- 7:10space? I've read a synopsis of the
- 7:12prison in space and that was enough.
- 7:14Every horror that you could imagine about that story the the
- 7:19poor woman in charge, yeah, is spanked in the climax to teach
- 7:26her a lesson for getting above herself.
- 7:28I mean, it's so incredibly sexist.
- 7:32It puts Mission to Magnus in the shame.
- 7:35Wow, that's probably a good thing that someone actually
- 7:38went, you know, who was it? David Murray said.
- 7:40I do. Not doing this.
- 7:42But that would have been made if he would agree to do it.
- 7:44Yeah, the only person who would have liked that would have been
- 7:48phrased for eyes surrounded by all those women.
- 7:52I mean, even, you know, you get to the War Games itself, you
- 7:55know the War Games has got no rate to work.
- 7:58Was it? You know it's.
- 8:00Ten, I think. That works.
- 8:02It works. But it's got no right to, you
- 8:04know, it's it's, you know, 10 episodes long.
- 8:09Yeah, it's last minute. There's no budget for sets.
- 8:13The sets are just drapes, you know, It's got absolutely no
- 8:18right to to be anything what it is.
- 8:20And I think obviously Michael and Tyran sticks all the kind of
- 8:24saviors. You know.
- 8:27David Maloney and Dave. You know you can you can point
- 8:30at 10 sticks you know at this point and say this isn't this
- 8:33man. You know going from doing what
- 8:35he did with the war games going into then season 7 where he's
- 8:40producer leaves after one story and he has a you know producer
- 8:44that he's worked with that he's cut his teeth with, that he
- 8:46knows and he gets a new guy coming in and and then from what
- 8:51happens from there onwards you know.
- 8:54Your talent sticks is the city of the end of Doctor Who.
- 8:58It has been said. You know.
- 9:01It is a rousing turnaround though, isn't it?
- 9:04After sort of 12 weeks of I mean, I love this, but I can see
- 9:09why people wouldn't or get a bit tired of it.
- 9:12So it is like 10 episodes of something just incredible at the
- 9:17end and and because it's capping off both season 6 and trout and
- 9:21and the 60s and black and white. It's got to be something
- 9:25special, and it is, yeah. Definitely.
- 9:33Fusion saved my life and Miss Kelly went well.
- 9:35That doesn't sound like fusion. His personnel record must be
- 9:41quite something. They're very nice to him, you
- 9:43know. I just got boxed each side of
- 9:47his logs by by that Ice Warrior there, didn't you?
- 9:53Oh, who's this fella? This is James Gregson.
- 9:56So this is the equivalent of, say, what's the name Masters
- 10:00coming in in Silurians? Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:03He's. Got underpants on the outside of
- 10:05his clothes instead of a lovely. Yeah, he's he's the government
- 10:08boss, basically, of Tmat who's coming in to tell them you're
- 10:12doing it all wrong. But he's not.
- 10:14He's not. He looks a bit like a Silurian,
- 10:17doesn't he? I'm sorry.
- 10:19That's right. Yeah.
- 10:22Too. Many essays.
- 10:25He doesn't even need the mask. I love this, where they're
- 10:32trying to explain what's happened and how imposable it
- 10:35all is. So we sent them up to the
- 10:36rocket. And then Miss Kelly went up,
- 10:41went up to the moon. She went up by rocket.
- 10:43No, no, she went to T Matt and was suddenly working again for a
- 10:46bit. I can detect Terence here as
- 10:49well. Sort of this fun.
- 10:51The absurdity of it, yeah. Well, this is what Terence gets.
- 10:55Terence gets out apart, you know, Terence, you know, you
- 11:00know, pads in two ways. He has his characters, you know,
- 11:03get together in a room and argue or he has, you know, some
- 11:07fantastic chasing. So he's kind of, you know,
- 11:11getting the hung of it as you go, you know, I mean, he gets
- 11:14better. Because this is, this is him
- 11:17cutting his teeth and I think this is where you know the shows
- 11:20that it's best when you give, you know you, you produce those
- 11:24or you give you your script edit as that opportunity to learn on
- 11:28the job as it were. You know if Bob Holmes just went
- 11:31straight into season 12 without, you know, shadow and turn
- 11:35sticks. You know if we hadn't hung
- 11:38around at the start of season 15.
- 11:41You know, short of show Tony read the ropes.
- 11:44Things are going to be a lot worse.
- 11:48Can I bring us back to Michael Ferguson for a second?
- 11:50Cuz we've just had the sun silhouetted shot of the eyes for
- 11:54you man, that's excellent. And as a way of telling us where
- 12:00we are, that's very dramatic, yeah.
- 12:02And I really like the futuristic design of the weather control
- 12:06station as well. But also the film work is
- 12:09beautiful. It's so clear and on DVD.
- 12:12I'm sorry on Blu-ray, that is going to look stunning.
- 12:16Yes, because the season 2 episodes looked amazing on
- 12:21Blu-ray and this one. Another bar set on 2 levels like
- 12:26in episode 5. That's bit unusual.
- 12:28It is, isn't. It.
- 12:31Oh miralon. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:37And I think sort of in terms in terms of the scale of the story
- 12:41now, you know like we've gone to the moon, we've been to the base
- 12:44on the Earth, we've seen the team has captured all over the
- 12:47place. We're now at the we've been out
- 12:49on location and now we're in the web like we've we've covered a
- 12:52lot of grounds. We have.
- 12:54We've been all over the place. I love that the web controls are
- 12:57basically. Wet or dry, this is and this is
- 13:02it. Turn everything to dry and then
- 13:04blast it. That's it.
- 13:06That's simple. You know, I could probably get
- 13:08on with technology. Remember.
- 13:12Yeah, I wonder what's happened to the Gravitron at this point.
- 13:15Or is the Gravitron not there yet?
- 13:18What's that? What was that, 2020?
- 13:20No, it was 2070, I think. Oh, OK.
- 13:24Well, I don't remember where we are in this one.
- 13:28I don't know. There's always.
- 13:28Something about 2021 or something is a couple of years
- 13:32back. Actually this is harking back to
- 13:34that. I remember when I did the Fury
- 13:35from the deep commentary with Mark Dodick and we were saying
- 13:38like it's really unusual that we're doing sort of a future
- 13:41Earth story, future Earth story where they're not venerating
- 13:45some fabulous new bit of technology like the Gravitron,
- 13:48like the computer in the Ice Warriors, like the compute or
- 13:51team at in this. It is just sort of a drilling
- 13:54project. But this absolutely is that.
- 14:00This is a good question, and for both of you, I'm going to throw
- 14:03it at Fraser. First, is Seas of Death a best
- 14:07of the trout and ERA as we see the trout and ERA out?
- 14:13Because it's doing based on the seas, it's doing monsters, it's
- 14:16doing all the things that we sort of know in this era.
- 14:19It is, but there's another story that I would point to to say
- 14:22this is your this is your Troton primer, if you want.
- 14:26You know, a feel of what the trunk near us like you know in
- 14:32the current reduction that's going to give you a little bit
- 14:35of room for improvement and but also going to give you a really
- 14:37solid story. Oh, I wonder what that could be.
- 14:41Is it the crotons? It must be the crotons.
- 14:45Only enough. It's not.
- 14:46It's the Dominators. Is it?
- 14:47No, really. You kidding me?
- 14:50What a surprise. I mean that's I don't.
- 14:56I try not to talk about it too much, really.
- 15:00This is I'm trying but. To be.
- 15:02Honest. You get much space under siege
- 15:04in that, do you? You don't.
- 15:05You don't. But I think you know to say
- 15:07that, you know Trump's year is all just based on the siege is
- 15:10is kind of it's it's inaccurate. You know you have you have
- 15:18season five, which you know has a few of those stories in, but
- 15:21not all of them. Not all of them are based under
- 15:23siege stories. I would suggest the power of the
- 15:26Daleks and the Moon base are both based on the sieges as
- 15:29well. Yeah, but so enemies, the world
- 15:31isn't, you know, the ice, I suppose ice was is a bit based
- 15:38on the CG isn't? It abominable Snowman.
- 15:41Yeah, but you know, things like the mind rubber, the Crotons,
- 15:45the invasion. 6. Space play with four.
- 15:48Games, yeah. Before that sort of Macrotera
- 15:53underwater menace. Although they are sort of all
- 15:56settings where monsters are clamoring about and menacing
- 15:59people. Sorry, Ferguson, Watch again.
- 16:02Look at this. The two of them silhouetted and
- 16:05acting brilliantly, and Fuchsian's body language, where
- 16:08he sort of cowards is, is, is Great Joe.
- 16:13I actually think it is. The last great gasp of the
- 16:17Trouncer monster story and they're going out with with a
- 16:20bang with this one, so there we go.
- 16:24I think if the Troun ended here, if you know you get to the end
- 16:30and. Had died, engulfed in fun?
- 16:34Pretty much, pretty much. Someone needs to, you know go
- 16:38with anti foam into the foam desert and you know that's
- 16:42that's the doctor and he comes staggering out and he's like.
- 16:45And, you know, regenerates on the floor, I think.
- 16:48Yeah, you've got a perfectly good sort of planet of spiders.
- 16:51You are bold like this, Fraser Gregory, you know.
- 16:56I think that would be you know Planet of Spiders.
- 16:58You look at that and you go, that is like the best of of
- 17:01Pertway, isn't it? That's like that's got all the
- 17:03elements you want in there. The War Games is.
- 17:06Is very different to most of the trouncing era, which is is
- 17:10really great and it's it's quite unlike anything else.
- 17:14Weirdly enough, I think the WAR games is the most complex trout
- 17:16story since Power of the Daleks in terms of like transaction and
- 17:20plotting. Yeah, which is is quite
- 17:22phenomenal really when you consider within three years in
- 17:25between. Fellows, who is this ramshackle
- 17:29fellow who's just suddenly turned up in the plot?
- 17:31Oh, Doctor Who's back. Look at his lovely new
- 17:35sideburns. This of course of a few problems
- 17:39when they go to the film sections that they did a few
- 17:41weeks. Back like now, when you did say
- 17:45in the previous episode that it is a shame that Zoe didn't know
- 17:48she had the smiles to figure out.
- 17:50But this sequence in a bit. I see episode 6 where he's
- 17:54throwing everything you can at that balloon.
- 17:56I mean, trout and goofing about is the best thing in the world.
- 17:59I wouldn't swap any of that. It's just I just feel it's a bit
- 18:05of a. So it's all a bit short.
- 18:08The only thing that's better than trout goofing around is
- 18:10trout and padbury goofing around together.
- 18:13We're going to get beautifully. Here we go.
- 18:18But laugh. Here we are.
- 18:20Trouten foam film. Fabulous.
- 18:26Foam film Fabulous. Yeah.
- 18:29Oh my. Wow.
- 18:32He's just so. When when we were growing up and
- 18:36watching this episode. So we've got this.
- 18:39I bought this at Christmas 1987 with my first ever wage packet,
- 18:46so I was put to work very early. I've been to work with my dad
- 18:50over the Christmas holidays and out on the van with him and so
- 18:55he they paid me £20 which is just amazing.
- 18:57I could buy two Doctor Who videos with that.
- 18:59So I did. But my brother who is 6 years
- 19:05younger than me, he thought Transom was that.
- 19:08Transom was his favorite Doctor Who because he was funny and he
- 19:13loved the way he ran in the Five Doctors and he loved all the
- 19:16running and goofing around in the phone sort of as a youngster
- 19:20when when he was watching this. So there's something about his
- 19:24doctor I think that appeals to to children very much, even
- 19:29though the performance is. Yeah.
- 19:32When he comes back he's not quite ever the Doctor he was
- 19:36when he's on sort of in his own era, he media bits are always
- 19:41played up and the more mysterious and I think I
- 19:45described it as elusive, parts of his performance and character
- 19:50are are played down. But it's things like this where
- 19:55this must have been so wonderful for children watching at the
- 19:58time that it's just. He's throwing everything at this
- 20:02balloon and Oh no, it's not working.
- 20:07And it's. Just he finds things out by
- 20:09accident. And that's.
- 20:12You know, T.O.K Hadley was saying that to me the other day
- 20:14when he was recording the cellar is that he kind of misses this
- 20:17sort of ramshackle Dr. that improvises and.
- 20:22Souls things by accident and it's I think it is a distinctly
- 20:25classic who. That's what.
- 20:28That's what the Doctor was when I was young.
- 20:31I like I didn't. I'm still not convinced about
- 20:34this world conquering God, walking around being a lonely
- 20:39Angel. I preferred him when he was just
- 20:40an eccentric. WINS by the skin of his teeth.
- 20:44I think that's far more interesting.
- 20:46Dynamic, dynamically and character driven.
- 20:51You know, you were saying about him being a child and loving the
- 20:54humor of Trout. Actually, Trout used to scare me
- 20:57a little bit as a kid. And it wasn't because he was
- 20:59scary. It was because, like, I'd watch
- 21:02a John Pertley story and he was so stalwart and confident.
- 21:06I was like, oh, we're all right. Yeah.
- 21:07As a kid I was like, I'm in safe hands.
- 21:10I'd watch the mind rubber, which I think was my first one of my
- 21:13first Trout VHS's. And he's like, oh, my God.
- 21:17And he's always panicked and he's always showing fear.
- 21:21And so as a kid, I was like, oh, I don't think this is going to
- 21:23end well. The Doctor's panicking a lot,
- 21:26but I do. That is a rare thing in The
- 21:29Doctor that Trout and Taps into absolutely is showing the
- 21:33Doctor's fear. Yes, don't get that very often.
- 21:37And and and that, I mean Speaking of Planet of the
- 21:41Spiders and John Pertwee is brought down by his fear because
- 21:45he's not been afraid ever before, because he's so
- 21:48resolute. And suddenly he's against
- 21:50something that absolutely terrifies him.
- 21:54Yeah. I think Tom Baker taps into that
- 21:57that element well as well, you know, and that sort of
- 22:00uncertainty, that lack of, you know, confidence in, in knowing
- 22:04exactly what the solution is. You know, Patrick Trouten, you
- 22:07know, has he's, you know, flaps a little bit where was, you
- 22:12know, Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor really leans into that in his
- 22:16way. Oh, I don't know how I'm going
- 22:17to get out of this, but I will just.
- 22:19Keep going and keep going and keep going.
- 22:21But with Baker, I feel like he knows he will, yeah, with trial.
- 22:24And I feel like he don't think he's going.
- 22:27You're not. You're not entirely sure that he
- 22:29is going to find an answer to this.
- 22:31Which is why when he comes, like in the last scene between him
- 22:35and Slaw in this, where he's standing there sort of a bit
- 22:38heroic, it's so unusual. It's.
- 22:41It's quite jarring, isn't it? And dark, but we'll get into
- 22:45that in episode 6. Look how young Fraser Eyes and
- 22:50Wendy Papri look in these film sequences.
- 22:53Oh, so gorgeous. Look at them.
- 22:56They're just so good together. It just light up the screen,
- 23:00even just walking around the corner of a base.
- 23:03I hate to keep saying this because, but this is the sort of
- 23:06thing as a kid that I wanted to be doing, tiptoeing around
- 23:09bases. This was absolute gold for me as
- 23:15a kid. Yeah, you want to be yet?
- 23:18Sneaking around and hiding from the monsters.
- 23:23Yeah. Wendy Patrick.
- 23:25Something that's slightly futuristic and slightly
- 23:28different to your normal everyday world.
- 23:30She says in a commentary. You know, in episode 6 where
- 23:33she's laughing. She's like, I wonder if they
- 23:34took it out. Oh no they didn't.
- 23:41Are we still in the age where you can only edit a few times?
- 23:45I think so. Well then, that makes us.
- 23:48Do it? Not quite at, yeah.
- 23:53So basically the weather control Bureau is our is our sort of
- 23:58extra element isn't it in five and six.
- 24:01Now how we say in six part as we always get the extra plot
- 24:03element. So we head here and it's just
- 24:06basically another base to run around in.
- 24:10There. Lots of corridors, lots of.
- 24:14Lots of jeopardy. Lots of hunting behind lights.
- 24:17Oh, come on. That is the most pantomime
- 24:19moment of this whole story. Them two behind.
- 24:21That. Yeah, it's like that moment in
- 24:23The Horns of Nymond, isn't it? Where they're just hiding behind
- 24:25the two computer banks, completely in plain sight and
- 24:28still getting away with it. Oh, look at this grand Marshall
- 24:32talk about bling. And he's played by Graham
- 24:38Lehman, who turns up quite a lot around this sort of time.
- 24:42So he is the. The old controller in the Macro
- 24:46Terror, he is in fury from the deep.
- 24:50He's one of the people on the base, he's the Commander here,
- 24:54he's one of the Time Lords in the Three Doctors, and he just
- 24:59just turns up every so often. Just a little roll and it's
- 25:02really, really good. I can't really tell what he's
- 25:05saying off the time. I'm glad I got the subtitles on.
- 25:08Which is odd isn't it? Because he's the one who isn't
- 25:11the heavy breathing Ice Warrior, so you should be able to make
- 25:14him out better. Where we sculpted is it?
- 25:22Oh, no, no, I'm. Not doing another zippy
- 25:25impression, but I think it does. Surprise, you get to know
- 25:29Bangal. There must be nowhere, right?
- 25:34You did get very well for Asia. It does show just what a superb
- 25:43job Alan Benyon is doing now. Oh.
- 25:45Absolutely. And it's it's a really, really
- 25:51good performance behind Latex and the mask that he can't see
- 25:54out of. I think his slaw, his God, Let's
- 25:58see if I can do this is Leah is Leah and Azaxi, Jesus Christ.
- 26:03Only an adopting commentary are very distinct.
- 26:10Yes, he makes them all slightly different, which is really good
- 26:13considering it's basically the same performance.
- 26:17It's the same costume with a cloak.
- 26:21I shall. I shall leave it to Nina Thomas
- 26:23from The Monster Repelled on commentary.
- 26:26She says Benyon was the nuts. Because he's done.
- 26:31He's done a lot of incredible theater work.
- 26:34I think he's right now, actually.
- 26:37He's just up the road, if he's still with us.
- 26:41Again and it's. One of those things that when
- 26:43Big Finish did their first ice water story, which was Red Dawn,
- 26:47wasn't it that it felt wrong that Alan Bennion wasn't playing
- 26:51the Ice Lord in it. But did you notice Matthew
- 26:54Brenno plays the Ice Lord in that he's absolutely tapping
- 26:57into this? Yes, he's really channeling
- 26:59that, yeah. And did you also notice?
- 27:02You should you should been a been a hero.
- 27:05Then there's only one thing left for him.
- 27:07For him, there he goes. He gets Miral on.
- 27:12What a character. Well done, Terry Scully.
- 27:15That's really dramatic, I think the way the he points, right.
- 27:18The camera, he knows, yeah. And the light comes, yeah.
- 27:21They get so he knows they're watching them kill Fusion, and
- 27:24then he points straight at the camera.
- 27:28The fusion came right in the end, which is again a very
- 27:30Terranstics. Yeah.
- 27:32Character note, Isn't it that someone who's done wrong comes
- 27:36right at the very last minute? It's like Dr. Lennox, isn't it?
- 27:39He does. Yep.
- 27:42Does, yeah. A character in distress does the
- 27:44right thing. And then you get Isotope for his
- 27:47dinner. Uh.
- 27:48Huh. So yeah.
- 27:50So not good, but they're always you know.
- 27:52Not by Benton. Not by Benton.
- 27:56Did you notice the transition there a second ago, then
- 27:59watching on the screen to then being in the studio?
- 28:02Yeah, yeah. That's a.
- 28:04Really stylish transition for the time.
- 28:06It transitioned in, you know you had it went from the.
- 28:11The people on Earth watching the video to then transitioned into
- 28:15the action on the moon and then back out again.
- 28:19Yeah, I have a friend who always says the troutanira for him.
- 28:25Here we go. No, no Troutan.
- 28:29Are you laughing at Trout and running on the spot?
- 28:35I have a friend who always says the troutanira for him.
- 28:38Is Patrick Tranton talking to people from a screen?
- 28:42Because he does it so often that he's talking to the audience out
- 28:46of the television and it's it's wonderful.
- 28:50But also the Tranton era is him surrounded by lots of phone
- 28:54running around and asking around, do you know?
- 28:57Beautifully. This is outside as well I'm
- 28:59really. Yeah, for years I was as well.
- 29:03It's great film work. Well, it's healing, isn't it?
- 29:05They got a bit more so well. Fuck me, We've got to take that
- 29:10phone machine to Ealing. Use it all boys.
- 29:14Use it all boys. Sorry.
- 29:19This is a question purely for Sy right now.
- 29:22Yes, Sy, have you ever been covered in that much white
- 29:24stuff? Frequently in the bath.
- 29:37Do you have anything to add? No.
- 29:41No, just shaking his head. Sorry.
- 29:46Jamie. Is this Pete Trout and clowning?
- 29:49I think it must be. It is, Oh no, and in full town
- 29:57comes back. I'm wondering where, at this
- 29:59point where where we're in comedy or whether we're in
- 30:02drama. I think, I think we've sort of
- 30:04lost the difference between the two.
- 30:08It's just the faces he pulls are just so magnificent.
- 30:12I'm not sure any other doctor could get away with a sequence
- 30:16that absurd. Can you imagine Peter Davison
- 30:19doing that? No.
- 30:21I can imagine Tom Baker doing it because he does it in the
- 30:23nightmare of Eden and it's pretty agonizing.
- 30:26Yep, but it feels right for Patrick Trounson, doesn't it?
- 30:31It does, yeah, it doesn't. Well, and then like I said, you
- 30:34you contrast factor. How he is in episode 6 when he
- 30:38confronts the honestly because. It's really well-rounded and
- 30:45very well for out performance. I think by him, his doctor is
- 30:49full of full of layers like that.
- 30:53So I've got a question for you then.
- 30:54Sigh. OK.
- 30:56Because you were within the target novelization in the break
- 31:02between record and. How does Terrence managed to
- 31:07convey the fun of Pat Trout and Fallen Around in form on script
- 31:12on on in the novel? Well, I have to admit, I'm not
- 31:18sure I've ever actually read the Novel of Scenes of Death, which
- 31:22is dreadful because I have a bit.
- 31:25I know for a fact that this was a book that I got after I had
- 31:29the video, and I've watched the video so many times, I don't
- 31:32think I ever read the book. So I feel this this may have to
- 31:37be rectified very shortly because give.
- 31:39Me a minute. I'm just getting a call.
- 31:41Hello. Yes, how?
- 31:44Hello. Jason Miller of the book club.
- 31:48How are you today? Yes, you do have very strange
- 31:51opinions about Warriors of the Deep.
- 31:52What's that? Yes, I've got news in about
- 31:55Cyhart. There's a target book
- 31:57novelization that he hasn't read.
- 31:58See to death. He's doing a commentary on it
- 32:01now. Are you going to book him in for
- 32:03that one soon so he's forced to read it?
- 32:05Thank you very much. Yes, I will get the
- 32:08assassination out against him. Thank you very much for your
- 32:11call. Goodbye.
- 32:11OK. Sorry, folks.
- 32:12Keep. Continuing.
- 32:13So, yeah, sorry about that. It's time for.
- 32:17So to be honest, Fraser, I don't know.
- 32:20Oh. Should anybody actually know the
- 32:23answer to this question because it's been years since I've read
- 32:25it, please pop it in the Twitter thread below.
- 32:32Find it there. Yes.
- 32:36OK.
