Transcript
- 0:24So I'm saying from were Wolves up and we've got our new album Die for
- 0:28Us coming out this Friday twelfth. It will come out on bank Camp and
- 0:32then a week later on the nineteenth, it is going to be on streaming
- 0:34services and physicals like all around the world. And it's a sick fucking death
- 0:40metal album full of like absolute bullshit. Over to you, how could I
- 0:44follow that? Mate? You've just done everything for me? So how do
- 0:49you how you feel about the release? Bro? It's not your first radio
- 0:52So does it does it always generate that same amount of excitement or is it
- 0:56does it become This one's a little bit different, Like, you know,
- 1:02it's a self release, this one, so there's been a lot of moving
- 1:04parts and like, whereas the other ones we just like roll up to each
- 1:08album release basically in a carriage, you know, with horses and the red
- 1:12carpet treatment, this time around it was kind of like, no, there's
- 1:17a lot of moving spinning plates that we're having to keep like spinning, and
- 1:23you know, normally we'd be like already on our victory lap even before the
- 1:26album's like sort of released. Now we're kind of like very much just staring
- 1:30at that date, crossing the fingers that all goes well. Yeah, so
- 1:37yeah, we're kind of quite a bit more nervous this time around, just
- 1:41that every everything happens as it should. Yeah, But as for the response
- 1:49for the album, like, you know, we don't worry about that,
- 1:52We never worry about that. We've got like a pretty heinous slab of like
- 1:56death metal that we know is absolutely pendus and that the title track, the
- 2:01very first thing that anyone will hear when listening to the album, Die for
- 2:05Us, is just gonna knock both their socks off and then some ah.
- 2:08So you know, we're not worried about that, We're worried about the boring
- 2:13bullshit like at the back of house. Yeah, like like this right now,
- 2:17Oh no, this is honestly, this to me is the fun part.
- 2:21One of the good things about releasing an album a year as you start
- 2:23getting familiar faces like around the country and the world that you get to chat
- 2:27with. So yeah, this is the good bit. This is like me
- 2:30with a nice cold drink and like a cigar this moment. It's like when
- 2:34I sort of jump on later tonight and you know, just worry about making
- 2:39sure all overseas has the correct like release dates. I know everyone's going to
- 2:44suck it up and be like, on Friday, where's the physicals? And
- 2:46it's going to be like, listen, cunts, it's it's band camp this
- 2:51Friday, physicals next Friday. Fucking got it. There is a downside to
- 2:55like being total cave man death metal where was It's pretty fair to say that
- 3:01you guys have got your own sound and people know it's you when they listen
- 3:05to it. But is there any surprises at all on Die for Us?
- 3:07Or is it just what people want and expect somehow? Even five albums and
- 3:13we still managed to surprise people with just how hateful, vitriolic and abusive like
- 3:17the albums are, so people will probably be surprised yet again by that.
- 3:22But I know what you're asking, are we like doing any you know,
- 3:25real changes and the other that no breakdowns or ready to do that? No,
- 3:30no no breakdowns, no mercy, no cull out, no love,
- 3:35nothing for anyone like under the age of like forty, none of that shit.
- 3:40No v neck t shirts like no neck tats like no, we ain't
- 3:45got shit that's going to appeal to anyone who wasn't there, Like in the
- 3:47early nineties, like for Caucasus necroticism more like, you know, we're for
- 3:53everyone who's still talking about oh my god, Mick Harris leftne palm death.
- 3:55You know, that's that's our people. It's right there. Look there's a
- 4:00couple you know, I'm taking the piss. There's a couple of things that
- 4:03people are gonna sort of go about. Probably one of them is we've got
- 4:08rock from Statistic Execution to do a little bit of yelling. On this album.
- 4:14He appears on the track My Hate Is Strong pretty much because we thought
- 4:17that was by far the most appropriate track for him. Why I have zero
- 4:26idea Sadex have this song like god, I think it might be called fucking
- 4:32Death, but the song just starts with like a good thirty thirty seconds of
- 4:38him making like retard noises while screaming fuck you, just like repeatedly. And
- 4:45to be honest, that's a yeah. That is a Northern star. That
- 4:50is what we always sailing towards. That's our compass North like that song.
- 4:55So yeah, we're pretty pumped. We got him like a involved for a
- 4:59track. We do our normal sort of like have one slowish black metal kind
- 5:04of track on there which is under a urinal moon spot the pun that one.
- 5:13I'm pretty I'm pretty happy with like a couple of I think an album
- 5:16or two ago, I started like experimenting with layering vocals, particularly almost like
- 5:20subliminal deeps, and that song sort of like takes that to sort of new
- 5:26heights. So it's it's a little bit different the entire album overall. We
- 5:31if we're going for anything different for it, and we weren't, but I
- 5:34just have to make something up, like you know, because we do get
- 5:36asked this question a bit. There was a few tracks where I was kind
- 5:42of like, let's make it almost anthemic or sing along something there where like
- 5:46someone can like you know, have one fist in the air and be crushing
- 5:50someone skulling with like a big beersteime with the other hand and sing along to
- 5:56the chorus kind of theme. So yeah, this good for songs where like
- 6:00you know, there's there's an actual chorus to it. To track die for
- 6:04Us, the mid We've got a mid pace song, like I think the
- 6:08first mid pace song we've done called fuck You Got Mine. But people have
- 6:13to understand what you're saying when you're singing that one. I guess, so
- 6:15you got to slow down a bit. Yeah, I don't want anyone like
- 6:19I can't understand the lyrics, so you know, it's sort of like we
- 6:25got them in mind, and also we all deserve to be slaves, which
- 6:28we did the video for. Yeah, I really wanted people to get those
- 6:33songs and if not get like all the lyrical content and the meaning what we're
- 6:36all like sort of aiming for, I wanted them to at least get the
- 6:41chorus. Yeah, that's enough. This probably takes some more relevance now you're
- 6:45doing this album by yourself. But when it comes to release as singles,
- 6:47like from a marketing perspective, like as you say, all your music is
- 6:51abrasive and highly offensive to some people, Like do you release singles that will
- 6:56try and offend as few people as possible or as many people as possible.
- 7:02That's a very good question, to be honest. When it comes to the
- 7:04singles discussion, like normally Matt and Daves like to say, we're doing this
- 7:10and I'm like, okay, and that's about the extent of the discussion with
- 7:15it. No, we're not afraid to put out the offensive stuff we did.
- 7:24Having said that, like I'm very well aware now that I'm running sort
- 7:28of like the Werewolves YouTube channel and putting our videos up on it. That's
- 7:32stuff with like that's absolutely slathered in swearing. It does get restricted. And
- 7:40in fact, we were releasing a whole bunch of short videos to promote like
- 7:45the new album, and quite a lot of those had the swears in them,
- 7:48and they were getting picked up like randomly by YouTube for like all sorts
- 7:54of reasons, and to the point where it looked like the channel was going
- 7:58to get taken down, which kind of sucked because that was like halfway through
- 8:03the campaign, after we'd already come out with the we All Deserve to Be
- 8:05Slaves film clip. So yeah, we didn't really care about it before.
- 8:11In fact, if anything, that was sport in like putting our worst foot
- 8:15forward. But that's what I thought. Yeah, but yeah, now kind
- 8:20of I must admit it's something I keep half an eyeball on. But like
- 8:24our least defensive is still far beyond most people's like mine in the sand.
- 8:31Yeah, you've been quote a saying that Die for Us ticks every box from
- 8:37modern death metal. Like, you guys don't seem to be the band who've
- 8:39actually got something and goes, Yep, done that, done that, done
- 8:41that. Like, what what do you mean by ticks every box? Ah,
- 8:46that was just a complete fucking lie that we told everyone to like buy
- 8:50our ship. It doesn't tick every fucking box. There's no solo's, like,
- 8:54there's no breakdowns, you know, or all of our ear lobes are
- 9:01intact, like you know, it just it doesn't tick every fucking box.
- 9:05If you're an absolute fucking beast who's into absolute rabbid shites and likes getting their
- 9:11head like sands it off with blasting and ranting, yeah, then it's going
- 9:16to tick your great big box. But like, I'm not even sure if
- 9:20we put that on there, we say all sorts of shit. If you
- 9:24don't remember your people like me, remind you what you've actually said. I
- 9:28don't know you even know if it was us or dicey or imperative like a
- 9:33pr overseas or someone like that. But yeah, nah, it's Look,
- 9:39it's really strange. It's old school guys like from the nineties death metal scene
- 9:45who all have like the twenty twenty something ability to play everything just absolutely going
- 9:54for it and giving out take on what we think like moder death metal should
- 9:56be, and to our minds, like everyone took a bit of a wrong
- 10:00turn, like you know, mid two thousands or whatever, when My Sugar
- 10:05and out Gates and Nile and Origin all turned up and everyone sort of like
- 10:11got a little bit techy and wanted to like demonstrate what an amazing musician they
- 10:16were, and you know, everyone became very afraid of being catchy or having
- 10:20hooks or like, you know, things like the opening riff of Morven Angels
- 10:26Rapture, something that is just like going to catch you, grab you,
- 10:30be savage, but you can bang your head to And so we're kind of
- 10:33like gone way back and taken that detour where we thought metal was supposed to
- 10:39go. So, yeah, we're heavy as fuck, we're fast as fuck,
- 10:43but we also try and be catchy as fuck as well. That's a
- 10:46lot of funks for one fucking band. Fucky where We'll started back in twenty
- 10:54nineteen with the express purpose of releasing ten albums in ten years. Die for
- 10:58us. As you reached the halfway for like, is it harder than what
- 11:01you thought it was gonna be? One year? This year was Yes,
- 11:05it's our hump year, Like you know, people have their fucking hump day
- 11:09for the week. Well we've got like our hump year for releasing ten albums
- 11:13and ten years and it's this fucking year. Look the music part of it
- 11:18like that that goes as smooth as everyone. We're quite enjoying that, and
- 11:22it's always like fun to do, uh and I think we we always stomp
- 11:26that bit of it. It's this other bit now, like where where you
- 11:31know, self releasing and suddenly the workload is just like expanded. And on
- 11:37top of that as well, like you know, we started playing live yeah,
- 11:43just under two years ago. Almost is kind of a joke thing,
- 11:46Like it is a funny thing to do. Hey, wouldn't it be funny,
- 11:48aid to create a band that like makes an album within a month and
- 11:52gets signed the next month. What would be funnier than that? Let's just
- 11:56play our first show like and only have one rehearsal for it, like you
- 12:00know, yeah, yeah, dude, Like I feel I feel my impaired
- 12:09blood pressure these days when I try and play a gig, that's for sure.
- 12:13And then we thought it would be funny last year, like let's like
- 12:16do a full national tour with like Mayhem and lcrate and you know, and
- 12:18let's close out the year by touring with Archbire and ingested, slamming, exam
- 12:24gigging album. Yeah why not? And almost unfortunately, like you know,
- 12:33it's now we've kind of created expectations. So before everyone was just like kind
- 12:39of flabbergasted that we'd like put out an album. Now it's kind of like
- 12:43all right, and film clips and wins the tour and it's like, oh
- 12:46shit, guys, it's so funny. Yeah. Yeah, it was like
- 12:52it was a great joke to start with, but we're not laughing now.
- 12:56But we'll make that. We'll make that ten albums, ten years of kills
- 13:00us or everyone else. You're backing yourself in a you yeah, fuck it,
- 13:03we'll do it. We can do it. I believe in us way
- 13:07back again. Just but you mentioned the term caveman death metal before, which
- 13:13is pretty accurate. Do you know the first thing I thought of and I
- 13:16read that, I thought of Captain Caveman, and I thought that would be
- 13:20a fucking good song to write about Captain Caveman, with you being a caveman
- 13:24death MetalMan. We've thought about it, like and I know, sort of
- 13:33like Matt every now and then sort of like he's like, how about we
- 13:35sort of like you know, do a film, clear we come out like
- 13:39gnawing bones, wearing like loincloths and shit, maybe not quite that obvious.
- 13:45One of the things like I've sort of found with Wells is that, yeah,
- 13:48we do raise a laugh, like you will get a chuckle out of
- 13:52our albums, but it's a very mean sort of like laugh. It's not
- 13:56overly joky ban and with this kind of like a bit of a thin line
- 14:01that we sort of have to walk. So yeah, no, will never
- 14:07come out quote as obvious as doing that, but like, yeah, we'll
- 14:11veer off in that direction sometimes. Right. So, well, after what
- 14:16you just said before, I'm not even gonna ask you about any shows coming
- 14:18up for what else you got going on, because you probably tell me to
- 14:20go myself. Let me talk about all our shows and our world tours that
- 14:26we've got planned. We have two two shows booked on consecutive days in Melbourne
- 14:35for September, so we're supporting Colossus on the thirteenth and then we're playing a
- 14:45festival on a boat in Port Philip Harbor in Melbourne called Hell on the Bay.
- 14:50And I got the lineup all fucked up last time. I think I
- 14:54was talking about it with people, but I think we will be playing with
- 14:58Freedom of Fear and and Harlot Nice. Yeah, so that's on the Saturday
- 15:05night. I think they're also going out on the Friday night. But yeah,
- 15:09we'll be at stay Gold with Colossus getting Sticky Ynys. But before that
- 15:15happens, of course, we've got the album Die for Us, which is
- 15:18what the release he said. Before the twelfth through to the nineteenth. They
- 15:20keep an eye out for all of that typical Wearable's fucking awesomeness. Bro,
- 15:24So well done. I'll be seeing you for a beer somewhere soon, Thank
- 15:28you very much. So a man and looking forward to it. Find you'll
