  opportunities down and we don't score versus a very explosive

  team in the first quarter. And it just you just think for

  everything like we have opportunities and we don't take

  advantage of them. Now we've got this high fly and

  pass it all over team that's going to score in an instant and

  we're going to be down to scores in a heartbeat.

  And they did go down and score, but we responded, which is that

  that's just a home adversity thing, like on the road.

  Does that kill us or what? I I do have to give you some

  did our preview, you said I think this isn't going to be AK

  State offense. I think this is going to be a

  Texas Tech offense and it's not going to be a whole lot of

  rushing, although the rushing games come on a little bit more

  of of late, Joe. Jacksonville in that

  second-half, they did it, but I think it was for for what?

  Like the point that you were getting to.

  They begrudgingly ran that ball. Yeah.

  They did not want, I mean, what was it at halftime?

  Like we didn't want to like Joe Jackson could have gotten those

  amount of carries all throughout the game, but we gave them

  basically 27 at the end of the game.

  So to run out of two score game or three score game at in in

  most parts it and that's exactly what happened in the Baylor

  game, which we're not going to talk about, but we're going to

  kind of talk about it here. We're leaving a lot of time on

  the clock. You got 2 scores in the fourth

  quarter, very similar to what happened Baylor.

  Same kind of thing happened in TCU.

  You are unwilling to run the ball because it's not in your

  nature from the tree that he comes from.

  He is a very past past first coordinator and arguably our
• 7:31
  best player is quarterback Avery Johnson.

  So you want to put the ball in his hand and you don't want to
• 7:37
  necessarily run power or gap scheme or outside zone 13 times

  in the fourth quarter. You kind of want to leave it in
• 7:46
  your quarterback's hand, but that's not the K state way.

  And but we did do it that way at home versus TCU.

  Look at the result I'm at. It speaks for itself at this

  point, Matt, right? I don't know, I, I don't

  necessarily agree with you, but you know, at the, the beginning
• 8:08
  of the game, a 4128 for this score makes it seem like K state
• 8:17
  really kind of dominated or, you know, they, they really had the
• 8:20
  upper hand for majority of this game.

  And if you look at how the first quarter and, and really man,
• 8:28
  would you say maybe the 1st 25 minutes of that game, it was, I
• 8:33
  felt momentum was kind of in TCU's favor.

  You know, they had, they had kind of taken control of, of
• 8:39
  what was a really good crowd. I felt for homecoming at least
• 8:42
  for, yeah, you know, for, for that game and kind of how the
• 8:46
  team has been doing. But I I felt TCU kind of took
• 8:53
  advantage of, of a little bit of the momentum until you have the
• 8:58
  touchdown. And then obviously the fumble
• 9:02
  where you really kind of, you know, we sit the half, it's 14
• 9:06
  to 7 and, you know, KST kind of never looked back from there.

  The offense still gives me pause in in certain aspects.

  You think of the first three drives that basically cross the
• 9:19
  50 and you get nothing out of it.

  You know, that's a very, those are very poor drives to have.

  You at least need to put yourself in a position where you
• 9:29
  can get a field goal, you know, try and get some points on the
• 9:32
  board and and you just stall. Now, I I can't blame Matt Wells

  for some of that. There was a offensive holding
• 9:40
  call that killed one of the drives and then there was the
• 9:43
  illegal forward pass that if Avery is 1 yard back, he finds
• 9:47
  Garrett Oakley for that, you know, to, to complete that, that
• 9:50
  play. So I, I, the offense really, I
• 9:55
  felt definitely got its momentum in the second-half where you can
• 9:58
  see, you know, how the run game was impacting the passing game.

  And you have a dynamic, you know, you have more of a dynamic
• 10:06
  offense where you know, you're seeing, when you see success
• 10:09
  running the football, that opens you up for some of these
• 10:13
  quicker, You know, whether it's a zone read play action type
• 10:16
  situation, it really kind of opens you up into the, into
• 10:19
  those situations. So, you know, to get 14 points
• 10:23
  from your defense is absolutely huge.

  I I still would give pause to say, you know, this was, was
• 10:31
  this the best game case dates played all year.

  If you think of all aspects of the game, maybe, you know, I, I,
• 10:38
  I could maybe argue that looking at it from the defensive side as
• 10:43
  well as think about special teams and I mean, you know, the
• 10:46
  offense, but there's still things that give me pause.

  I it's unfortunate that Dylan Edwards is, is hurt because I, I
• 10:56
  think they're, you know, for as much as we saw from Joe, he ran
• 10:59
  it 27 times in this game. And my concern is I don't think
• 11:04
  you can run Joe Jackson consistently 27 * a game and,
• 11:09
  and go through the, the next five games of the season with
• 11:13
  that. But I think it's hard not to be
• 11:18
  you have to be happy like like TCU, you know, is a team that
• 11:22
  had some momentum from a Big 12 perspective.
• 11:26
  And we we played the part in this game to win by 13 points
• 11:32
  and, you know, for desper now. And, you know, I I thought the
• 11:36
  safety play was better in this game.
• 11:39
  I think some of it, I would say, is because Gunner Maldonado got
• 11:41
  a lot more time. Healthy.
• 11:44
  And is healthy. No knee brace.

  So I, I think the bye week's going to be really good to, you
• 11:51
  know, go into the bye week with a win.

  You have this this one game of momentum going into a huge game
• 11:57
  next weekend, you know, to get guys healthy and and really

  feeling positive about the performance that they put
• 12:03
  together. And I'm not going to complain or

  anything, but I want to go a little bit off of what you just
• 12:10
  said, Matt. One TCU, they didn't do
• 12:15
  themselves any favor because very similar to what my
• 12:19
  complaint is with Matt Wells and the the style that he brings to
• 12:24
  this Kansas State team. TCU with under Sonny Dykes is a
• 12:28
  very air raid team and they don't have the ability, even if
• 12:34
  it's working to stay consistent with it.

  And who's their offensive coordinator?
• 12:38
  Kendall Briles, very air raid esque himself.
• 12:43
  Their running back was absolutely murkiness.
• 12:45
  He was doing whatever he wanted in that first half and they
• 12:48
  absolutely just went away from him because they're doing silly
• 12:52
  things like throwing laterals out to the to the sideline and
• 12:56
  giving Kansas State a chance to just take the momentum.
• 12:59
  Because Matt, like Matt said, TCU had it.

  I mean, they were the more physical team, but they just did
• 13:04
  not want to run the ball. They their ego got in the way.

  And then Matt, you said something about the offense,

  because we did score 41 points. Fourteen of those were from the
• 13:15
  defense. But you said dynamic and the the
• 13:19
  definition of dynamic is the process or system characterized
• 13:24
  by constant change, activity or progress.

  Do we is Kansas State's offense dynamic?

  Because in the second-half of that game, when you have the

  ability to lean on a team and run the ball, we win games like

  that. But when we put it in Avery

  Johnson's hands and sit and complain and that he doesn't run
• 13:48
  the ball enough, well, I know how you can make him run the
• 13:53
  ball, Call, run place for him or.

  Run. He's had I, I, he had a few in
• 13:59
  this game. But it took into the second-half

  and they're more necessarily read options.

  And he Baylor, for instance, when we looked our best versus
• 14:13
  that Baylor team, that long drive that we had, what was this

  play that he scored a touchdown on?

  We went to the five wide set and we ran a quarterback draw on

  purpose. That was not a Avery Johnson
• 14:23
  scramble. That was a quarterback draw on

  purpose. And it it, it's the dynamic part

  of it because we have the ability to change.

  But when we say, hey, Avery Johnson drop back, run this RPO,

  when we know it's not really an RPO, we're throwing this slant

  like it is. It's it's more 1 sided.

  And when we are dynamic where we can lean on a team and run the

  ball very, you know, 2012 esque kind of running the ball 27

  times with our run 1 running back, we look better.

  We look better. And mind you, that might be TCU.

  They might be stinky poo poo. They might have a bad defense

  for all I know. But you'll never know if you

  don't try. So I think Matt said it

  things we can go to and not just be so one sided.

  But I am super happy with this game because it did show me a

  least from the wide receiver perspective, because you brought

  up your own Tibbs. But it was good having JD

  Bradley back in this game. I know he he had two catches in

  the game, obviously that really great touchdown towards the end

  of the game. But it's interesting because you

  have to wonder if some of the run success has come with having
• 17:29
  more athletic wide receivers helping with blocking.

  And he's a guy who I think does a really good job with blocking.

  And and you can kind of see this with Tibbs as well.

  But it's it's really good to have JB Bradley back moving
• 17:44
  forward because he does give, you know, we've seen the
• 17:47
  flashes, obviously with the athleticism and making catches.

  But some of the important pieces of running the football are
• 17:53
  isn't just your offensive line, but it's also, you know, how do
• 17:57
  your wide receivers are blocking and, and getting running backs
• 18:01
  or Avery or or whoever some space to run.

  So it was good to see him get get some really good play in
• 18:08
  this game, especially with Jace Brown not playing a ton of snaps
• 18:12
  compared to his normal self, which I know he's been dealing
• 18:14
  with an injury. So yeah, I it's, I want to give

  him a few props just because, you know, you could look at the
• 18:22
  stat line and yeah, you caught a touchdown pass.

  But there's other things, you know, at play when being a wide
• 18:27
  receiver and you kind of saw with some of the play calling,
• 18:29
  you know, having these more blocking capable wide receivers
• 18:33
  out there is really good. So when we when we last checked

  in and and talked about you know we did our quarter season award
• 18:40
  show that whole thing super fun. But three, we've got three Big
• 18:46
  12 games kind of on the record now, Two and two and 1-2 and
• 18:52
  two, two and two overall. But two and one through these
• 18:54
  last three. How does that performance change
• 18:59
  or not change your outlook for the rest of the season?

  I mean, it's it's very on par with what I was expecting with

  our home performances. And Matt said it before we

  started recording the true test of this team.

  It's already been a disappointment.

  We've all, we all can establish that.

  But there's still some things out there that, you know, the
• 19:26
  offsee this offseason is going to be very, very important.

  But leading into that offseason, what are we going to do with our

  Rd. performances? And I think that is going to be

  crucial because the next few games, well, the next game that
• 19:41
  we have is going to be a real test for the character of this
• 19:47
  team and what we expect going forward.

  Because it would be one thing to have a disappointing season and

  then it'd be another thing to have a disappointing season and
• 19:59
  the streak stop. So I think with how we've been

  playing these last few games, especially the last two offense
• 20:08
  waking up being dynamic, I think it's.

  Leaves a lot out there that the team is growing, they're
• 20:18
  starting to try to find an identity where they can have
• 20:23
  everything in their to the at their disposal, that their
• 20:26
  disposal to be a more consistent offense that can throw different
• 20:32
  things at you. So I'm expecting that throughout
• 20:35
  the rest of the season. It's really can we bring it on
• 20:39
  the road in the Big 12? Hey, it only took seven games to
• 20:44
  find the identity. Jesus Christ, I mean, you're
• 20:47
  more confident than I am about next weekend, but I that's like
• 20:50
  the primary thing. You know, I, I look at some of
• 20:54
  the teams in the lower half of this conference and you know, if
• 20:57
  we were playing on the road at West Virginia, for example,
• 21:00
  they're not very good. But let me tell you, my
• 21:03
  confidence level on this team going to Morgantown and win a
• 21:06
  football game is not high. It's just because you look at
• 21:09
  some of the road performances this team has had and they just
• 21:13
  kill themselves in certain situations.

  And you have to assume that a lot of it, you know, is is being
• 21:18
  in that type of environment. And it's not necessarily the
• 21:20
  players, but I feel like there's a coaching aspect to it too, of
• 21:24
  not having a team prepared to win on the road.

  And so, you know, for for next week, you know, we'll have our
• 21:30
  previews and stuff, But my confidence level of this team
• 21:33
  winning a game on the road, like this one in Lawrence is not as
• 21:37
  high as yours by any means. So, you know, they really need
• 21:42
  to kill these Rd. demons. I mean, they really do.

  And you know, if if you don't see it go our way next week, you
• 21:50
  have to kind of there has to be some type of conversation that
• 21:52
  really talks about it because this team is not won a game on
• 21:58
  the road since what the Colorado game.

  Yeah. I mean, that's bad.

  That's just that's not good. But OK, so you said something

  interesting there and I don't want to, you know, harp on it

  too much. But if you look at the the team,

  well, it's it's the Big 12. So it's really, it's really hard

  to say that because it's kind of all this year, not so much

  because we do really have a top dog in Texas Tech.

  But if you look at the middle of this middle down, does K State

  as a team from where you thought at the beginning of the season

  really belong with an Oklahoma State, a West Virginia, a UCFA

  Colorado? Does it?

  They've dug themselves into that like, yeah, I get it.

  But I would say yes, like, you know, this, this TCU win boosts
• 22:53
  your standing a little bit because TCU had shown this
• 22:55
  season, you know, some, you know, big games.

  But for me, like this team has to continue winning to build
• 23:08
  that trust or you know, that that that feeling that they
• 23:14
  aren't in the same conversation with some of those teams, you
• 23:17
  know, whether they are or not. I mean, I, I just, I struggle

  with the fact that, you know, yeah, you can win all your games
• 23:25
  at home, but it's like if you can't win on the road, you're
• 23:28
  just a middle, you're a middle team, middle of the low end team
• 23:30
  in this conference. You have to be able to, to
• 23:33
  perform in in, in certain games. So.

  I just think for me when I, when I list those teams and I think
• 23:41
  about this Kansas State team, as disappointed as we are
• 23:47
  eventually it, it equals out, right?

  You would think that it would equal out and like the, the

  character of this team would come out eventually, whether it

  was a late start, I mean Army's inexcusable North Dakota, that

  game was almost reprehensible like it would just, it just

  can't happen. But the, the, the team is

  eventually going to find its way.

  And I, I think that because I, I look at that TCU performance and

  there's no way a team that is at the bottom with this, like the

  teams that I just listed would do that.

  So I, I think the turn around is eventually going to happen in my

  head. I I think the turn around is

  is really helped with the UCF game and the TCU game.
