- 1:37Let us pray. O God, who has made this day honorable to us on account of the birth of blessed John, grant to thy people the grace of spiritual joys and direct the minds of all the faithful into the way of eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the prophet Isaiah. Listen, remote islands.
- 2:23Pay heed to me, nations from far away. Before ever I was born, the lord sent me his summons, bethought himself of me when I was still lying in my mother's womb. My word is a sword he has been keeping ready sharpened under cover of his hand. Here is an arrow he has chosen out carefully hidden yet in his quiver. Thou art my servant, he has told me.
- 2:57Thou art the Israel in which I will make my boast. But now I have had a message from him. I am his servant appointed ever since I lay in the womb. Behold, I have appointed thee to be the light of the Gentiles. In thee I will send out my salvation to the furthest corners of the earth.
- 3:23Kings, when they see this, shall rise up from their thrones, princes too, and fall down to worship in honor of the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, who has thus made choice of thee. The gradual, I claimed thee for my own while thou was still in thy mother's womb. Before ever thou came us to birth, I set thee apart for myself. The lord put out his hand and touched me on the mouth and spoke to me. Alleluia.
- 4:08Alleluia. Thou child shalt be called the prophet of the highest. Thou shalt go before the Lord to prepare his ways. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke.
- 4:30Elizabeth's time had come for her childbearing and she bore a son. Her neighbors and her kinsfolk, hearing how wonderfully God had showed his mercy to her, came to rejoice with her. And now when they assembled on the eighth day for the circumcision of the child, they were calling him Zachary because it was his father's name. But his mother answered, no. He is to be called John.
- 5:06And they said, there is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And began asking his father by signs what name he would have called him by. So he asked for a tablet and wrote on it the words, his name is John. And they were all astonished. Then of a sudden, his lips and his tongue were unloosed, and he broke into speech, giving praise to God so that fear came upon all their neighbors.
- 5:48And there was none of these happenings but was noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea. All those who heard it laid it to heart. Why then, they asked, what will this boy grow to be? And indeed the hand of the Lord was with him. Then his father Zachary was filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in prophecy.
- 6:20Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel. He has visited his people and wrought their redemption. The offertory. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. He shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon.
- 6:47The secret. We heap our gifts upon thine altars, o Lord, as we celebrate with due honor the Nativity of him who prophesied the coming and made known the presence of the world savior, Jesus Christ, thy son, our lord, who is god living and reigning with thee in the unity of the holy ghost through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface, just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, oh, holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify.
- 7:56We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
- 8:31The communion. Thou child shall be called the prophet of the most high for thou shalt go before the face of the lord to prepare his ways. The post communion. Let us pray. Let thy church, o Lord, rejoice at the birth of blessed John the Baptist through whom she came to know the author of her own new birth, Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who is God, living and reigning with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost through in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
