Latest / Stugotz and Company / Set 2: He's More Steve Rogers Than Captain America
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: So we are out here at the American Century Championships
- 0:07Speaker 1: in Lake Tahoe. It's gorgeous here. Taylor is unhinged. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: trying to enjoy the scenery. I'm trying to enjoy these
- 0:13Speaker 1: moments here. But you are unhinged today, my friend. You
- 0:16Speaker 1: have nickname for Christian Pulistic. You're out of your mind, dude.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I just keep mumbling under my breath. Christian Policic.
- 0:22Speaker 3: He does.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yesterday was a legacy game for Christian Politic. Yeah, the
- 0:28Speaker 2: golden boy of the Golden Generation. Biggest match in the
- 0:32Speaker 2: US men's soccer history, biggest knockout round match in the
- 0:36Speaker 2: US men's soccer history. We needed him to be great, Stu. Yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 2: not only was he not great? Yeah, not only was
- 0:43Speaker 2: he not average, he was awful. He lost eleven possessions
- 0:48Speaker 2: in the first half, the most of any player on
- 0:50Speaker 2: the field.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Eleven turnovers. Huh he was I really that a Jets quarterback? Yeah?
- 0:58Speaker 2: I really don't want to hear the name Pulisic anymore.
- 1:01Speaker 2: His nickname? Do you know what his nickname is?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Well, this is a nickname that you have given him, right,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but he has an actual nickname.
- 1:06Speaker 3: What is the actual nickname.
- 1:08Speaker 2: His actual nickname is Captain America.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Okay, so Captain America is the actual nickname. And this
- 1:12Speaker 1: is when things are going good, this is when USA
- 1:14Speaker 1: men's soccer is winning.
- 1:15Speaker 3: He is Captain America.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And I'm guessing you have a new nickname based on
- 1:19Speaker 1: what happened last night?
- 1:21Speaker 2: Correct? Is new nickname going forward that I'm going to
- 1:23Speaker 2: try to get off the ground? Yeap, Steve Rogers because
- 1:27Speaker 2: Steve Rogers was Captain America before he turned into Captain America, right,
- 1:32Speaker 2: And Christian Polisic, he's Steve Rogers because he's just a
- 1:35Speaker 2: regular dude.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So he's just Steve Rodgers who never turns into Captain America.
- 1:40Speaker 2: What he doesn't show up in the big moment? Right,
- 1:44Speaker 2: he's overhyped because of how low the bar is for
- 1:48Speaker 2: men's soccer in America.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Listen, I get it, I get where you're going with this,
- 1:51Speaker 1: But what an awful nickname?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Steve Rogers an awful nickname for an awful player.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Yes, but how to friends, like how do they go
- 1:57Speaker 1: about like working with that nickname?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Instead of people saying, hey, look it's Captain America, people
- 2:02Speaker 2: just look at him and go, hey, Steve Rogers.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But not his friends, Like just when he's walking by
- 2:08Speaker 1: people at public You are encouraging the public right now
- 2:12Speaker 1: to call if they see Captain America out on the streets. Okay,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you are encouraging them to say hey, not say this.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Don't say hey, that's Captain America.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You want them saying, hey, there's Steve.
- 2:24Speaker 3: No, you can't, there's old Stevie.
- 2:26Speaker 2: You have to go first and last name, because if
- 2:28Speaker 2: you just call him Steve, it's kind of confusing. You
- 2:31Speaker 2: have to let it be known he is Steve Rogers.
- 2:34Speaker 2: He doesn't deserve the nickname of Captain America. Yes, he
- 2:37Speaker 2: is just a regular person.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Captain America is reserved for the greats, right, Steve Rogers
- 2:43Speaker 1: is reserved for the average person.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yes, If Christian Polisic is your best player, yeah, you're
- 2:50Speaker 2: not winning anything of significance. He's left injured in three
- 2:54Speaker 2: of the seven World Cup games he started, right, Not
- 2:57Speaker 2: only was he bad yesterday, we can't even count on
- 3:01Speaker 2: him to play a full ninety minutes. I know.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But Tim Mareen was the guy you were getting out
- 3:05Speaker 1: in the first segment. So now it's it's Captain America
- 3:08Speaker 1: who were now calling Steve Rogers.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I can't wait to see Pulistic.
- 3:13Speaker 1: If I see him, I wouldn't know if if if
- 3:15Speaker 1: he was sitting next to me right now doing the show,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't know it was Steve Rodgers. But if I
- 3:20Speaker 1: do see him and someone points out, hey, that's Captain America,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna be like yo, Steve.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And then after after the match, the reporter was asking
- 3:27Speaker 2: him about his injury and he was like, get it
- 3:30Speaker 2: hurts right now, but now I get a chance to
- 3:32Speaker 2: rest up, rest up for what you set out. You
- 3:36Speaker 2: sat out last year of the the US tournament, Yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 2: because you said you wanted to be fully prepared for
- 3:42Speaker 2: the World Cup.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Wasn't the beauty of this team supposed to be that
- 3:46Speaker 1: Pulistic wasn't their best player?
- 3:48Speaker 3: Right? That he could be Steve Rodgers and they'd be fine.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Polistic has to be for the US team to be
- 3:54Speaker 2: what the what people want the US team to be.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Polistic has to be their best. He has to be
- 3:59Speaker 2: their best play.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Now.
- 4:00Speaker 2: The thing is you have other players that have risen
- 4:03Speaker 2: their level, the Weston McKinney's, the Tyler Adams to where
- 4:08Speaker 2: Polistic doesn't have to carry the team necessarily. But he
- 4:12Speaker 2: can't be a negative out there on the field, on
- 4:14Speaker 2: the pitch, as they say.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Right on the pitch. I love the idea of just
- 4:18Speaker 1: such a common nickname. Put it on the Paul Taylors.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Should we start calling Christian Pulistic instead of calling Pulisic
- 4:26Speaker 1: Captain America? Should we call them Steve Rogers.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of I'm gonna put it in
- 4:34Speaker 2: NFL terms for you, for Christian Polisic, right, because I
- 4:38Speaker 2: was wrapping my brain around this yesterday. What is the
- 4:41Speaker 2: NFL equivalent for Christian Polisic?
- 4:44Speaker 3: Boy?
- 4:44Speaker 2: And I've settled on really just any mid quarterback in
- 4:48Speaker 2: that fifteen to like twenty five range. So Trevor Lawrence,
- 4:53Speaker 2: Kyler Murray, Yes, one of those quarterbacks that comes in
- 4:56Speaker 2: with a crazy amount of expectations, a crazy amount of hype.
- 5:00Speaker 2: You watch them, you see flashes of potential, but overall
- 5:04Speaker 2: you're watching a player like Trevor Lawrence and you're like, Okay,
- 5:08Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars are never winning anything of significance
- 5:12Speaker 2: if Trevor Lawrence is their quarterback.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I understand what you're saying, but what you're saying about Pulistic.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Is he's Clark Kent.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Clark Kent who never turns into Superman.
- 5:26Speaker 3: He is Bruce Wayne, who never turns into Batman.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he is Steve Rodgers, who never turns into Captain America.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So Bruce Wayne. I don't know if it's the best comparison,
- 5:36Speaker 2: because I don't think Batman had any Like Batman didn't
- 5:39Speaker 2: get transformed with powers. He was mostly just like technology, just.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Put an outfit on. Yeah, I mean he had a belt,
- 5:44Speaker 3: and I think.
- 5:44Speaker 2: He knew like martial arts or taekwondo, one of those two.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It was odd that he could just put that stuff
- 5:49Speaker 1: on and all of a sudden he's spinning like you know,
- 5:51Speaker 1: he's flying from buildings.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I mean, he could do whatever. It's ridiculous.
- 5:56Speaker 1: What a ridiculous superhero that was probably perhaps the most ridictable, well,
- 6:01Speaker 1: outside of Pulistic, the most ridiculous superhero we've ever had.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I mean, Batman, please, utility belt.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I wish Pulistic got a utility belt that prevented him
- 6:10Speaker 1: from turning the ball over and scoring a goal once
- 6:12Speaker 1: in a while.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But that in terms of superheroes that could actually become superheroes,
- 6:16Speaker 2: Batman is the most attainable for the common folkus because
- 6:21Speaker 2: you don't you don't need it.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Feels like it could have been anyone.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you don't need like a bite by a
- 6:26Speaker 2: radioactive spider or any of the you know, you get
- 6:31Speaker 2: submerged in a tank that all of a sudden gives
- 6:34Speaker 2: you these these powers. Batman was just Hey, he's a billionaire,
- 6:38Speaker 2: he's got the resources. He's going to find his way
- 6:41Speaker 2: to be a superhero.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, Bruce Wayne has it pretty good.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Like the idea that he would want to be Batman
- 6:46Speaker 1: is absurd to me, because you're right, you had a
- 6:48Speaker 1: big mansion, he was a billionaire, He had a butler,
- 6:51Speaker 1: his name was Alfred. I mean, he had it all
- 6:53Speaker 1: and like to waste any sort of time saving other
- 6:55Speaker 1: people's lives when you could be living your own life.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I mean, what do you do it? Seriously? Maybe that's
- 7:01Speaker 1: what Polistic was thinking.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I just the image of him just on the bench.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I think if you had a lasting moment from this
- 7:12Speaker 2: World Cup, what it's going to be. Yeah, I think
- 7:14Speaker 2: it's going to be Christian Polistic with his head in
- 7:17Speaker 2: his hands, subbed off when the team very clearly had
- 7:22Speaker 2: no chance, no future. He's twenty seven. Next World Cup cycle,
- 7:26Speaker 2: he's going to be thirty one. The problem with this
- 7:29Speaker 2: World Cup team is a lot of the players.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Five years younger than Ring. By the way, no way,
- 7:35Speaker 3: thirty eight, seven years younger than Ring. But anyway, you
- 7:38Speaker 3: were saying.
- 7:39Speaker 2: The problem for this World Cup team is a lot
- 7:41Speaker 2: of the players were going into their prime or entering
- 7:44Speaker 2: their prime. Four years from now. This core it's going
- 7:49Speaker 2: to be there either in their prime still or exiting
- 7:52Speaker 2: their prime. And that's why it felt like this was
- 7:56Speaker 2: the now or never year for the USA.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, the hope is that this team would inspire the
- 8:01Speaker 1: next generation, that hosting the World Cup would inspire the
- 8:04Speaker 1: next generation, that from the three hundred million people that
- 8:07Speaker 1: we have, we would find more soccer players. And I'm
- 8:10Speaker 1: here to tell you we will not. They are all
- 8:15Speaker 1: sprinting to NFL right now, and college football. They are
- 8:19Speaker 1: all sprinting to anything but soccer. You put it in
- 8:21Speaker 1: all that work and you get embarrassed like that against
- 8:23Speaker 1: the world power in Belgium. Why do I want to
- 8:25Speaker 1: sign up for that? The money's not in soccer. You
- 8:27Speaker 1: know where it is, Major League baseball, you know where
- 8:30Speaker 1: it is. The NFL. You know where it is college football.
- 8:36Speaker 2: There is one way to fix soccer in this country.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Well, start paying them more.
- 8:40Speaker 2: No, we have to put a thirty year ban on
- 8:43Speaker 2: kids playing football, basket on baseball. Yeah, and then say
- 8:46Speaker 2: we're putting one hundred percent of our attention to soccer.
- 8:48Speaker 3: That's unfair to the kids. Man.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You do that, though, yes, and you'll see how many
- 8:52Speaker 2: Embappes and Hollins we have.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So what you're doing is forcing the next Randy.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Moss to play soccer rather than play football, because that
- 9:00Speaker 1: is the problem. Okay, rather than play soccer. You're forcing
- 9:04Speaker 1: them to play soccer. That is the problem. The Randy
- 9:06Speaker 1: Moss is at one point in their life they decide, Hey,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know what, enough of this sitting around crap enough.
- 9:12Speaker 1: You know, I'm sitting here, the ball never comes my way.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's hard, I have to use my feet. I can
- 9:16Speaker 1: go do something else. I'm a great athlete, world class athlete,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and I can make millions upon millions upon millions of
- 9:22Speaker 1: dollars and get TV jobs until the end of time.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But that's the problem. Those kids decide, at some point
- 9:28Speaker 1: in their life, this game's boring, This game doesn't have
- 9:31Speaker 1: enough rewards for me, I'm gonna go play football.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We need the next Lebron James in net because I
- 9:38Speaker 2: never want to watch Matt Freez play.
- 9:39Speaker 3: He'd be a good goalie even at this age. We
- 9:45Speaker 3: could have used them last night.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I think he gets in that starting eleven.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Put it on the poll.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Would you be okay if Lebron was our goal It
- 9:52Speaker 1: was the US men's national team goalie and were thanks
- 9:59Speaker 1: to Taylor Twelveman for joining US earlier. We appreciate his time.
- 10:02Speaker 1: There are two stories here that I'm trying to get to,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and I have a feeling I'm only going to get
- 10:07Speaker 1: to one. I want to get to Yannis and what happened.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It became official. He's no longer with Milwaukee. He wrote
- 10:13Speaker 1: them a nice letter, goodbye letter, thank you for everything.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I'm on to South Beach.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But there was a Jersey mishap that I want to
- 10:20Speaker 1: get to, involving Giannis. But there's also this soccer fan
- 10:23Speaker 1: that I have no idea what this story is. I
- 10:26Speaker 1: have no idea any of the details surrounding this story.
- 10:29Speaker 1: All I know is that unhinged Taylor Vipplis today is
- 10:34Speaker 1: a stew got to get to the soccer fit. Got
- 10:36Speaker 1: to get to the soccer fan. So let's get to
- 10:38Speaker 1: the soccer fit.
- 10:40Speaker 2: So Michael Hewitt is sixty five years old. He's a
- 10:43Speaker 2: Leeds United supporter. He's from the United Kingdom. Right, he
- 10:47Speaker 2: had plans to go from England to the United States
- 10:51Speaker 2: to watch the England matches.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Here.
- 10:54Speaker 2: He has a short layover in Barcelona.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:58Speaker 2: His family does not hear from him. They start an
- 11:01Speaker 2: international missing person search. Days go by. Really On the
- 11:07Speaker 2: tenth day of the search, they track his credit cards
- 11:11Speaker 2: and get a location to try to find out where
- 11:14Speaker 2: he is. Where do you think he was?
- 11:17Speaker 1: I have no idea. I mean I have no idea,
- 11:20Speaker 1: to be honest with you.
- 11:21Speaker 2: He was at the Bars in Barcelona.
- 11:27Speaker 3: You can't spell Barcelona without bar how about that?
- 11:31Speaker 2: So what had happened was in Barcelona during his layover
- 11:37Speaker 2: he loses his phone? Yes, and he cancels his trips
- 11:41Speaker 2: to the United States because on his phone he had
- 11:45Speaker 2: all his travel tickets on it. Yes, he just goes
- 11:47Speaker 2: to the Bars to enjoy his time in Spain. He
- 11:51Speaker 2: doesn't know any numbers saved on his phone to let
- 11:54Speaker 2: his family know that his plans change, and he says
- 11:57Speaker 2: that he was blissfully unaware that anybody was looking for him.
- 12:01Speaker 2: In ten days.
- 12:01Speaker 3: It was probably the greatest ten days of his life.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean, no one's trying to get I mean outside
- 12:06Speaker 1: of the you know, his family being concerned and being
- 12:08Speaker 1: an international search for this guy, because his family has
- 12:11Speaker 1: no idea where he is. But it had to be
- 12:13Speaker 1: the ten greatest days of his life.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Just be the great.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's the great. It's what I tell you.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's why I go to Augusta for one reason. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: can't bring my phone on the course. And it's the
- 12:23Speaker 1: greatest five to seven hours of my entire life. So
- 12:27Speaker 1: he didn't have anyone's phone number in his family committed
- 12:30Speaker 1: to memory.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Zero.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Do you have anyone that like close to you? Do
- 12:33Speaker 3: you have my number committed to memory?
- 12:35Speaker 2: No?
- 12:35Speaker 3: No, So if you lost you now I've got too far.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So if you if you lost your phone and you
- 12:41Speaker 1: were at bars in Barcelona, you would not be able
- 12:44Speaker 1: to get a hold of me.
- 12:45Speaker 2: No, no chance. I the only numbers I believe I
- 12:48Speaker 2: have committed to memory. Yeah, are my mom's phone number right,
- 12:53Speaker 2: my dad's phone number, yes, and then the phone number
- 12:56Speaker 2: of the house I grew up in that we moved
- 12:59Speaker 2: out of about ten years.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Okay, I remember my home number two, I do from
- 13:04Speaker 1: the first house I grew up in. So you it
- 13:06Speaker 1: this guy, so he never gets to the United States,
- 13:09Speaker 1: he loses his phone, and he decides, here's the best
- 13:11Speaker 1: plan of action.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Not alert my family, who's going to be concerned about me.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But when in Barcelona, why not just hang out of
- 13:18Speaker 1: the bars for ten days? Why when international search is
- 13:21Speaker 1: going on for me? So his family I love him,
- 13:24Speaker 1: get him on the show.
- 13:26Speaker 3: I Want You with youwit more like blew it?
- 13:28Speaker 2: How about that his family knew that he had made
- 13:30Speaker 2: it to Barcelona because the last time he had his
- 13:34Speaker 2: phone was posting pictures of him in the in the pubs,
- 13:38Speaker 2: in the bars in Barcelona, right, and then he just
- 13:41Speaker 2: goes completely dark, completely off the grid. His family is
- 13:45Speaker 2: probably thinking the absolute worst. Where this guy had plans
- 13:50Speaker 2: to go to the United States to see England live
- 13:53Speaker 2: and in person. Yes, he said he didn't go to
- 13:56Speaker 2: the embassy because he didn't really think it was that
- 13:58Speaker 2: big of a deal because he still had at his
- 14:00Speaker 2: passport and like nothing was wrong.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I gotta be honest.
- 14:03Speaker 1: This seems like a guy who wanted to lose his phone,
- 14:05Speaker 1: who wanted to spend ten days in Barcelona, who wanted
- 14:09Speaker 1: to not be bothered by his family. I got breaking
- 14:11Speaker 1: news to the ewits. He doesn't like you, he doesn't
- 14:14Speaker 1: want to be bothered by you. He just wanted ten
- 14:16Speaker 1: days of silence. Leave the man alone.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I mean, this is this has to be the most
- 14:21Speaker 2: British story of all time, because what do you mean
- 14:24Speaker 2: this guy just went off the grid completely when zero
- 14:28Speaker 2: dark thirty like Lebron James getting ready for a big
- 14:31Speaker 2: playoff run, right said, I don't need to let my
- 14:34Speaker 2: family know. Just just a major event. Yes, Like your
- 14:39Speaker 2: family is expecting you to get on a bird to
- 14:43Speaker 2: go to England. See you posting updates.
- 14:45Speaker 3: For they want to hear all about it.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yes, and you pull a disappearing act much like Pulissic.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh my god, Steve, Yeah, Steve Rodgers holistic Dan.
- 14:58Speaker 3: I don't know if this guy's in the right of
- 14:59Speaker 3: the wrong, don't.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not like it has to like you're
- 15:04Speaker 1: two days in right, you're on a bender, you're drinking.
- 15:07Speaker 1: It has to feel good, like at some point it
- 15:09Speaker 1: has to set in. Listen, this whole like not getting
- 15:12Speaker 1: bothered thing. This is awesome. No one's trying to get
- 15:16Speaker 1: a hold of me. This is awesome. Let me sink
- 15:18Speaker 1: into this for another eight days. But he has to
- 15:20Speaker 1: be thinking to himself. Also, my family's going to be
- 15:22Speaker 1: concerned and people are going to start looking for me.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So I don't know if I should love you it
- 15:26Speaker 1: or hate you it. I'm not certain what to do here.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I'm inclined to say I love him. I do want
- 15:31Speaker 1: him on the ship, and I would like his parents
- 15:33Speaker 1: on the show.
- 15:35Speaker 2: There is no way Michael Hewittt sixty five years old
- 15:39Speaker 2: has a wife, right, because I'm trying to imagine if
- 15:42Speaker 2: the situation.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Was also sixty five. He's like he's arrived at an
- 15:45Speaker 1: age where he doesn't give a bleep. He's like, just
- 15:47Speaker 1: leave me alone. I'm drinking for ten days.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But if you just stop contacting Abby after the third day,
- 15:54Speaker 2: she would probably get concerned. The first two days it
- 15:56Speaker 2: would be a vacation be Heaven.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I mean, are you kidding me? I think the third
- 15:59Speaker 3: day probably still in Heaven. I'm trying to.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Think one Abby would actually call the uh, call someone
- 16:05Speaker 1: up and say I'm concerned my husband is missing. It
- 16:08Speaker 1: wouldn't be the fourth day.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I doubt it would be the fifth day, because by
- 16:13Speaker 3: the fifth day you're really enjoying it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Like, man, there's money still in the account, but I
- 16:18Speaker 1: don't have to deal with him.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I mean, this is a classic situation.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I don't think she'd ever call.
- 16:25Speaker 2: This is a classic situation where if the situations were reversed. Yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 2: this is only a situation a guy could find himself in,
- 16:32Speaker 2: of course, like the wife never thinks of I'm just
- 16:35Speaker 2: not going to contact anybody yet that thought, that thought
- 16:39Speaker 2: never crosses his mind. Right, this is a case of
- 16:41Speaker 2: just guys being again, like Michael Hewtt described it, blissfully unaware.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I mean, Abby has everyone's number committed to memory, including yours.
- 16:49Speaker 1: By the way, Wow, in the event of an emergency,
- 16:52Speaker 1: like she's going to know how to get a hold
- 16:53Speaker 1: of you, she probably is. Well, she definitely has my
- 16:56Speaker 1: number memorized, our kids, yours, my dad.
- 17:02Speaker 3: She would just let me sit there forever. It would
- 17:04Speaker 3: be heaven. All right.
- 17:06Speaker 1: We are on the driving range here at the American
- 17:08Speaker 1: Century Championships out in Lake Tahoe.
- 17:10Speaker 3: We are honored to be here. We love being here.
- 17:12Speaker 3: It's my super Bowl.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Jack Wagner is still on the driving range this guy
- 17:17Speaker 1: is dialed in. Here's the beauty of the American Century
- 17:21Speaker 1: Championships out here in Lake Tahoe.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You have Jack Wagner right in front of us, just
- 17:25Speaker 3: dialed in. I mean she just.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Hitting iron after iron after iron and hitting him well,
- 17:30Speaker 1: by the way, dialed in. And there's Dexter Fellow right
- 17:33Speaker 1: next to Jack Wagner. And on the putting green is
- 17:35Speaker 1: Derek Carr. Did you see Derek Carr.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I saw Derek Derek Carr.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And physical appearance alone looks like you should win this
- 17:41Speaker 1: thing every single year, right, I mean he looks like
- 17:43Speaker 1: a golfer.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I hate to say because I love Derek Carr. Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 2: but I mean that's kind of how he was that quarterback.
- 17:50Speaker 2: He's the quarterback you think you want until you get
- 17:53Speaker 2: Derek Carr. And I say this as somebody who you
- 17:55Speaker 2: love Derek Carr. I love Derek Carr. I appreciate his game.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So when Mac was bouncing around the NFL, Mac Collins,
- 18:01Speaker 2: my my former roommate at Carolina, I was very excited
- 18:04Speaker 2: when he went to Vegas. I'm like, Derek Carr is
- 18:06Speaker 2: my quarterback now. And then about halfway through the season,
- 18:09Speaker 2: my huh, yeah, I kind of wish there was somebody.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Put it on the poll. I'm saying this very quietly.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Does anyone look the part more than Derek Carr?
- 18:16Speaker 2: He leads the league.
- 18:17Speaker 1: He leads the league in looking at the bar.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Jack Wagner, striping it, Jack, you look great out there.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Give it going, Jack. We got flyers on you.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you just flexed, he did for us.
- 18:33Speaker 3: That's what this is all about.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Frisko, Joe just flex the f and Frisco stands for flexed.
- 18:39Speaker 3: He thinks for idiots, he does. Dexter Fowler, huh, he.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Looks great too. So Dexter Fallon is wearing a white
- 18:48Speaker 2: polo right now, pink hat and like a salmon color shorts. Yes, yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 2: it's a color that looks great on him. I'm not
- 18:55Speaker 2: sure if I could pull it.
- 18:56Speaker 3: You can't, Taylor.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I went in with like hesitant cy if I could
- 19:01Speaker 2: pull it off. Because this is what happened last year
- 19:03Speaker 2: when I saw Ray Allen. Ray Allen had this great
- 19:05Speaker 2: like purple and purple fit, and I go, I can't.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I can't wear that.
- 19:08Speaker 1: No, only Ray can pull that off. They are certain
- 19:10Speaker 1: that Ray Allen is the best looking guy here except
- 19:13Speaker 1: for Derek Carr. I mean, Ray Allen could pull any
- 19:16Speaker 1: look off and has pulled any lookoff. It's interesting because
- 19:20Speaker 1: there are some celebrities who are traditionally here who aren't
- 19:23Speaker 1: here this year, Travis Kelcey being one of them, although Jason.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Kelcey will be here. Who else have you noticed?
- 19:30Speaker 1: There's some newcomers like I think Joe Buck is not coming,
- 19:32Speaker 1: and so what they do here at the American Century
- 19:34Speaker 1: Championships is no Joe Buck. Okay, he can't make it
- 19:37Speaker 1: this year. Okay, Joe Buck's welcome back anytime. But replaced
- 19:40Speaker 1: Joe Buck this year with Sean McDonough our Fred and
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to seeing Sean McDonough here, you know.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah, So Josh Allen's not here. Drake may was in
- 19:49Speaker 2: the field and then he was replaced with Drew Brees. Right,
- 19:54Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes isn't here.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, the quarterbacks, they seem to have bailed except for
- 19:58Speaker 1: Derek Carr and Tony Romo, who he's been here for
- 20:00Speaker 1: three months.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Tony Romo, I haven't seen him yet though, but we
- 20:05Speaker 2: saw Marty Fish earlier.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, well, forget it.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I don't even want to say we're putting a flyer
- 20:10Speaker 2: on Marty Fish because Marty Fish is the favorite. Yes,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and you're thinking it's not always sexy to bet the favorite. Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 2: but sometimes you have to remember I saw Marty Fish
- 20:19Speaker 2: swing once. Yeah, the favorite's the favorite. There's a reason
- 20:21Speaker 2: he's a favorite.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yes, he's the best golfer out here, Jack Nicholas called him.
- 20:25Speaker 1: And Marty will join us later this week, but Jack
- 20:28Speaker 1: Nicholas called him the best non PGA Tour player he's
- 20:30Speaker 1: ever played golf with. Wow, I know, I mean, he's special,
- 20:34Speaker 1: he's good. He's the favorite, and he should be the favorite.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But he's gunning for Tony Romo. Remember we were talking
- 20:41Speaker 1: about Rory, who had the advantage because he's won Augusta
- 20:43Speaker 1: of just playing the mat, like playing that course over
- 20:45Speaker 1: and over again. Marty Fish has been here for two
- 20:48Speaker 1: months and I'm not joking. He has played this course
- 20:51Speaker 1: over and over and this means something to Marty Fish.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And he's the best golfer here. He's probably even money,
- 20:57Speaker 1: would be my guess.
- 20:58Speaker 2: So I'm looking on the American Century Championship website right
- 21:01Speaker 2: now the celebrities. Yeah, Trey Wingos listed. Is Trey playing
- 21:05Speaker 2: this year? Is he really this looks like Trey Wingo's
- 21:08Speaker 2: playing last year. Trey just came to hang out the
- 21:10Speaker 2: first couple of.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Days, that little game of Trey Ornay going up. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: like that Lingo got in. Huh, I'm offended.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Now.
- 21:16Speaker 1: It's kind of like Anderson Cooper being upset that George
- 21:18Speaker 1: stepanoppol has got invited to the Kelsey wedding.
- 21:23Speaker 2: You're upset that you're not in this field, Lingo is.
- 21:27Speaker 3: No, I wouldn't be upset if Wingo wasn't in the field.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yes, I'm looking at some of the first timers here.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Who's Wingo playing anyway?
- 21:35Speaker 2: So it's in alphabetical order. So now I'm going back
- 21:37Speaker 2: up the list. I see Sean McDonough, I see Doc Rivers,
- 21:40Speaker 2: Doc Rivers the first time here.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Nice, uh docs a fram We'll get doc.
- 21:43Speaker 2: On Kevin O'Connell, Rob Salait.
- 21:47Speaker 1: The quarterback whisperers here. Yeah, so they replaced quarterbacks. It
- 21:50Speaker 1: seems like with quarterback whispers. Yes, Rob sala is here.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Kyle Lowry is in the listed field.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Really, so he retired after twenty years and retire a raptor.
- 22:01Speaker 1: He's going to go into Pro Basketball's Hall of Fame.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I don't want to say this too loudly because that
- 22:05Speaker 1: if he goes into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I mean, so he's going to get in, right, Larry,
- 22:09Speaker 1: he is. Yes, it's an NBA champion. He's probably made
- 22:12Speaker 1: four All Star Games.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I don't think he's getting in.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Lesser people have gotten into that Hall of Fame. I'm
- 22:17Speaker 1: telling you right now. Check out, Larry and tell me
- 22:18Speaker 1: how many All Star Games Kyle Lowry.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Has been in. But we love God, love, we love Listen, listen,
- 22:23Speaker 3: we love everyone here. Everyone.
- 22:25Speaker 1: We're talking badly about rich Eisen. We love you, Kyle Lowry,
- 22:30Speaker 1: love you, love love love, we love everyone here.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I mean, I'm surprised.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Jason Kelsey is still playing in this field, Marcus, Travis isn't.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Because you almost I guess they're not really a package deal.
- 22:41Speaker 2: But when your brother's not here, and I guess it's
- 22:45Speaker 2: not like Jason Kelsey has to go on a honeymoon
- 22:47Speaker 2: or something. That's why I'm assuming that Travis Kelsey's not coming.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Travis is going on the honeymoon. Maison is just coming
- 22:52Speaker 2: straight from Madison Square Garden and the wedding.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Yes, yes, he's still there.
- 22:56Speaker 1: My guess is Travis who loves this event so much,
- 22:59Speaker 1: love the people who run this event, the people at NBC,
- 23:02Speaker 1: the people at an American Century, champ the American Century. He
- 23:06Speaker 1: loves it so much and respects it so much. He's like, hey, bro,
- 23:09Speaker 1: you got to do me a favor. You need to
- 23:11Speaker 1: represent the Kelsey family for this weekend. Okay, I ain't
- 23:13Speaker 1: gonna be there. I'm on my honeymoon. Jason, you need
- 23:16Speaker 1: to show up. But Jason is showing up and it'll
- 23:18Speaker 1: be great. He's been great the last couple of years
- 23:19Speaker 1: he's been out here. I'm checking out Kyle Lowry right
- 23:21Speaker 1: now just to see how many All Star Games he's
- 23:24Speaker 1: not famer.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Come on, I mean that that would be that would
- 23:28Speaker 2: be a damning case for the Hall of Fame. Extra
- 23:30Speaker 2: fowl working on it. Chip came over there.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Ex.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Vinnie del Negro is a staple of well, he's also yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 1: he's also a staple up on the leader board. I mean,
- 23:41Speaker 1: he's a good golfer. So I'm not going to find
- 23:45Speaker 1: the amount of All Star Games. Hold on, let me
- 23:47Speaker 1: just put this is this is radio and Tala right now,
- 23:50Speaker 1: by the way, we are looking things up on the
- 23:52Speaker 1: fly because we want to determine whether or not Kyle
- 23:55Speaker 1: Lowry is going to get into Pro Basketball's Hall of Fame.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I can't imagine Rob Salah being very good at.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Golf because he's what are you doing?
- 24:08Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm doing, Rob, I don't know.
- 24:11Speaker 2: He wasn't He wasn't good as the Jets head coach.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Is there is there a correlation there that you're doing
- 24:18Speaker 2: as a Jets fan, just assuming what you know of
- 24:21Speaker 2: Rob Solo was just that the Jets tenure did not
- 24:24Speaker 2: go well, did not end well. So you're just kind
- 24:26Speaker 2: of translating that to the golf course.
- 24:28Speaker 3: If I'm being honest, he's too muscular, that's it.
- 24:30Speaker 2: He is very muscular.
- 24:31Speaker 1: You want to look like Jack Wagner. If you're a
- 24:34Speaker 1: Derek Carr is out of the range. Now that's what
- 24:36Speaker 1: you want to look like. Yes, how many All Star
- 24:39Speaker 1: Games did Kyle Lowry make?
- 24:40Speaker 3: I'm actually asking you know, I was asking Ai.
- 24:43Speaker 2: So Kyle Lowry made six All Stars?
- 24:45Speaker 3: Oh, he's going to the Hall of Fame, tailor get
- 24:46Speaker 3: a champion. Yes, he's going to the Hall of Fame.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And he wanted I think he want to the title
- 24:51Speaker 1: with Kaw But he won a national championship as well,
- 24:54Speaker 1: so the pro basketball though, no Villanova, Okay, he did it.
- 24:58Speaker 1: You're right, I don't know who I was thinking about there.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Maybe Jalen Brunson, who got risk surgery today. Yeah, you concerns.
- 25:05Speaker 2: They said, the timeline is about two months.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I'd be good if he took a year off.
- 25:11Speaker 2: We're we are a team where right now, Jalen Brunson
- 25:14Speaker 2: has built so much goodwill with the fan base, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 2: that he could take as much time as he possibly needs.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It sounds like he's gonna be ready with plenty of
- 25:25Speaker 2: time before the season starts.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Though, Yes, who's your big target this week? You're looking
- 25:29Speaker 3: at the list right now, like, who's the.
- 25:30Speaker 2: It's always Colin Jost. It's always Colin Jost.
- 25:35Speaker 3: You're not gonna get josted this year, right.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I'm not gonna let myself get josted this year. So
- 25:40Speaker 2: what happened to how you get josted? Yeah, gotta believe
- 25:43Speaker 2: he's coming on right now. I don't believe he's coming on.
- 25:45Speaker 3: So last year, this was Tyler's first year here, and
- 25:47Speaker 3: I told him.
- 25:47Speaker 1: He went up to Colin Jost in the driving range
- 25:49Speaker 1: and Joe said Hey, when I'm done hitting this bucket
- 25:51Speaker 1: of balls, and the bucket was one thousand deep. Okay,
- 25:53Speaker 1: he said, I'm gonna come over and join you guys.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And I said, Taylor, when he's done hitting that bucket
- 25:57Speaker 1: of balls, where he's going to go is anywhere. But
- 25:59Speaker 1: he he told you that so you would get away
- 26:02Speaker 1: from Colin Jost. And I told Talor, when that happens,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you need to just stand by Colin Jost to make
- 26:08Speaker 1: him honitorous word.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Otherwise you got Jose dead.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm not letting myself get josted this year.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but you also don't want to sit through Colin
- 26:15Speaker 1: Joe's hitting a thousand balls, because he will hit balls
- 26:17Speaker 1: until the end of time to see if you just
- 26:20Speaker 1: go away.
