- Lucas: Luna, ready for a new French episode? Luna: Totally! What are we learning today? Lucas: Today, we're talking about colors. Super useful for describing things around you. Luna: Oh, I love colors! Let's do it. Lucas: Okay, first color: rouge. R-O-U-G-E. Rouge. Luna: Rouge. That means red, right? Lucas: Exactly! Like a red apple. Une pomme rouge. Luna: Une pomme rouge. I like that. Lucas: Next color: bleu. B-L-E-U. Bleu. Luna: Bleu. Like the sky? Lucas: Yeah! Le ciel bleu. Now you try: bleu. Luna: Bleu. Got it. Lucas: Great. Now vert. V-E-R-T. Vert. Luna: Vert. That's green. Like grass. Lucas: Exactly. De l'herbe verte. Vert. Luna: Vert. Lucas: Now jaune. J-A-U-N-E. Jaune. Luna: Jaune. Yellow. Like a lemon. Lucas: Un citron jaune. Perfect. Last one: noir. n o i r. Noir. Luna: Noir. Black. Like a cat. Lucas: Un chat noir. Exactly. Let's review them all. Luna: Okay, I'll try. Rouge, bleu, vert, jaune, noir. Lucas: Nailed it! So, if someone asks you what color something is, you can say it's rouge or bleu. Luna: Cool. Let's practice with some objects. Lucas: Okay, imagine a car. What color is it? It's red. So, une voiture rouge. Luna: Une voiture rouge. Lucas: Now a blue shirt. Un chemise bleue. Luna: Wait, why is it 'bleue' with an e? Lucas: Oh good catch! In French, colors have to agree with the noun. Feminine nouns get an extra e. Chemise is feminine, so bleue. Luna: Ah, so it's une chemise bleue. Lucas: Right. And for masculine, like un vélo bleu — no e. Luna: Got it. So vert becomes verte for feminine? Lucas: Exactly. Une pomme verte. Luna: And jaune? Does it change? Lucas: Jaune stays the same. It ends with e already. So une fleur jaune. Luna: Nice. What about noir? Lucas: Noir becomes noire. Une voiture noire. Luna: Okay, so rouge becomes rouge? It ends with e too. Lucas: Exactly. Rouge is the same for both. Luna: This is starting to make sense. Lucas: Awesome. Let's do a little scene. I point to a green book. You say? Luna: Un livre vert. Lucas: Perfect. And a yellow sun? Luna: Un soleil jaune. Lucas: Yes. And a black dog? Luna: Un chien noir. Lucas: You're doing great. So remember: rouge, bleu, vert, jaune, noir. Luna: Rouge, bleu, vert, jaune, noir. I think I've got them. Lucas: If you're enjoying these little lessons, by the way, Fexingo is made possible by listeners like you. If today was useful, consider supporting the show — it's what keeps it ad-free. You can buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a great way to help us keep making episodes like this one. And it really helps. Lucas: Okay, back to colors. Let's do a quick quiz. What color is the French flag? Luna: Uh, bleu, blanc, rouge. But we only learned bleu and rouge today. Lucas: True. Blanc is white. Maybe that's for another episode. But you got the bleu and rouge part right. Luna: Good. So today we learned rouge, bleu, vert, jaune, noir. Lucas: Yes. And remember the feminine forms: rouge, bleue, verte, jaune, noire. Luna: Got it. I'll practice with things around my house. Lucas: Great idea. See you next episode! Luna: Bye!
