- 0:47Speaker 2: Hannah McDonald. Juicy Scoop.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop. Well, little update on
- 0:55Speaker 4: Taylor Frankie Paul. She is now being investigated from People
- 1:00Speaker 4: Magazine following the allegations of a third domestic violence incident.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Since we recorded last, all TMZ has been doing is
- 1:09Speaker 4: putting out more and more body cam videos from the
- 1:13Speaker 4: police of the infamous night on the 23rd.
- 1:17Speaker 2: So a lot more.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Video, a lot of the parents, her parents coming over,
- 1:21Speaker 4: her talking to the police. That's all been released. It's
- 1:25Speaker 4: all on TMZ. She has said this is just making
- 1:28Speaker 4: it harder for her daughter who has to relive it.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I'm sorry for that, but also why is an eight-year-old
- 1:34Speaker 4: having to relive it? She shouldn't be online and she
- 1:36Speaker 4: shouldn't be watching TMZ at night.
- 1:38Speaker 2: So maybe it's just... Maybe keep it away from her.
- 1:44Speaker 4: But apparently there is a third incident. So there's a
- 1:47Speaker 4: one that we've been seeing in 2023 with Dakota. Then
- 1:51Speaker 4: there was the one that happened in February.
- 1:54Speaker 2: That was two days.
- 1:56Speaker 4: And now there's some other one that apparently he has
- 1:59Speaker 4: video evidence as well that he has come forward and
- 2:02Speaker 4: talking to the police about.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So it's a huge mess.
- 2:06Speaker 4: There's talk of rumors that maybe the beautiful Maura, who
- 2:11Speaker 4: was on Traitors, she might be the Bachelorette. This is
- 2:15Speaker 4: coming from Dubois and might be the Bachelorette and they
- 2:19Speaker 4: would do it live. A lot of people have wondered
- 2:21Speaker 4: if they'll fill that time with maybe a live type
- 2:26Speaker 4: of dating experience in the Bachelorette world. Anyway, so we
- 2:33Speaker 4: have that going on. Just wanted to update you on that.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I'm really excited to share with you an incredible interview
- 2:40Speaker 4: that I did with Agena Gershon in person. And she
- 2:45Speaker 4: has been a huge movie star for many years. And
- 2:49Speaker 4: her stories are so interesting about her life. She has
- 2:52Speaker 4: a new book out, Alpha Pussy. She'll be in San
- 2:55Speaker 4: Francisco with a book signing next week. So check her out.
- 2:59Speaker 4: But let's get into that interview now. And for everything
- 3:02Speaker 4: for me, you're going to go to heathermcdonald.net.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I am so excited for my guest today, Gina Gershon.
- 3:11Speaker 4: You know her from her so many movies you've done.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Always sexy.
- 3:17Speaker 4: You have broken boundaries with being one of the first
- 3:22Speaker 4: and second. You've had a few bisexual characters in the
- 3:25Speaker 4: juiciest movies, and this being Juicy Scoop.
- 3:27Speaker 2: When I saw that you had a new book coming out.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Your memoir, it's funny, interesting, juicy stories. Gina Gershon's book
- 3:37Speaker 4: is called Alpha Pussy. Great title. Thanks for coming on
- 3:40Speaker 4: the show.
- 3:41Speaker 7: Thank you. Thanks for having me.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Now, this is not your first book. It's my third book. Yes.
- 3:47Speaker 4: How have you enjoyed the writing process compared to acting
- 3:51Speaker 4: and doing everything else you do?
- 3:54Speaker 2: I mean, this was a different sort of... I have
- 3:57Speaker 2: all different....
- 3:59Speaker 5: Listen, after like writing this and now like selling this,
- 4:03Speaker 5: I kind of miss my day job.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I think acting is so much easier.
- 4:08Speaker 5: But, you know, it's a different this was an interesting
- 4:10Speaker 5: process for me. It was different than the last book
- 4:13Speaker 5: I did, which I never really meant to write a book.
- 4:15Speaker 5: And then I did a one woman show and then
- 4:17Speaker 5: I got a book deal. I was like, oh, like,
- 4:19Speaker 5: I'll just write out what I've already performed. And then
- 4:23Speaker 5: the other book was a book with my brother who
- 4:25Speaker 5: already had the story. And I kept saying, oh, I
- 4:27Speaker 5: want to make this into a movie. And he's like,
- 4:28Speaker 5: I don't want to write it.
- 4:29Speaker 7: You write it. And so I was like, no, you
- 4:31Speaker 7: write it.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And so I.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Didn't– it wasn't my intention to do that. I just
- 4:37Speaker 5: did it because I wanted to get it made into
- 4:39Speaker 5: something else. And this one was the first one I
- 4:42Speaker 5: did that I'm like, all right, I'm going to write
- 4:44Speaker 5: this book, which was– it was interesting.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I liked what– and just like getting excited for
- 4:51Speaker 4: this interview– I like how you were saying, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 4: I was, it was COVID and we were just like
- 4:56Speaker 4: drinking and telling stories. And my agent was like, these
- 4:58Speaker 4: stories are so funny. Why don't you do, why don't
- 5:01Speaker 4: you write a book on these like fun stories? And
- 5:04Speaker 4: you were like, well, you know, I probably should before
- 5:06Speaker 4: I forget them. And I thought that was like, great.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And I tell people that all the time, like Write
- 5:14Speaker 4: your stories or tell your stories or, you know, make
- 5:16Speaker 4: sure that you have these memories because.
- 5:18Speaker 5: I mean, I think as an exercise as we get older,
- 5:20Speaker 5: you forget everything. I've already forgotten what I've written in
- 5:24Speaker 5: the book. And in a way, when you write it down,
- 5:26Speaker 5: then it's like deleting something in your mind. Then you could, like,
- 5:29Speaker 5: make space for, you know, other stories.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Because I start reading them. I'm like, oh, yeah, that
- 5:34Speaker 5: was really funny. I, you know, no, he wanted.
- 5:37Speaker 7: Me to tell stories.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He was really... He was.
- 5:39Speaker 7: My agent as well. And I.
- 5:43Speaker 5: We had happened, you know, been out one night and
- 5:46Speaker 5: I told him some stories that I never really talk about,
- 5:48Speaker 5: about showgirls. And the next day he was like, you
- 5:50Speaker 5: really need to write this book. And I said, I
- 5:52Speaker 5: really don't want to write that book. And then COVID happened.
- 5:56Speaker 5: And then he said, just start sending me stories just
- 5:57Speaker 5: because I'm like, we're all stuck here. It'll be cheery.
- 6:01Speaker 5: And so then I just started writing him little essays
- 6:04Speaker 5: about showgirls and about Prince and about band and just
- 6:07Speaker 5: anything that was coming up. And he was like, oh
- 6:09Speaker 5: my God, I love these so much. I'm going to
- 6:11Speaker 5: take this out and sell it as your book.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And I'm like, what?
- 6:14Speaker 7: What is it?
- 6:15Speaker 5: And then I just, I didn't want to do that book.
- 6:17Speaker 5: I said, you know, I'm not, I mean, believe me,
- 6:21Speaker 5: I could write the tell all of tell alls and,
- 6:23Speaker 5: but I'm a very discreet person. And some of the
- 6:26Speaker 5: stories I'm like, I don't know if I want to
- 6:28Speaker 5: spend all this time doing that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I said, there's something there.
- 6:30Speaker 7: But I don't know what.
- 6:31Speaker 5: And then little by little through a series of events with,
- 6:35Speaker 5: you know, my mom and she wasn't doing well. And
- 6:37Speaker 5: I was dealing with therapy and, you know, and just
- 6:42Speaker 5: all of a sudden these valley things started coming up.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Stories started emerging in my mind that I started noticing
- 6:50Speaker 5: a theme. And then once I thought about the alpha
- 6:53Speaker 5: pussy story, which really was based on my cat and
- 6:56Speaker 5: training him, but then it, you know, when I got showgirls,
- 7:00Speaker 5: people were kind of saying, oh, showgirls and making me
- 7:03Speaker 5: feel uncomfortable. And when I utilize my technique that I
- 7:06Speaker 5: did on my male cats to become the alpha pussies and,
- 7:09Speaker 5: you know, not be a victim to them. I tried
- 7:12Speaker 5: it on, you know, the, the, the guys who were,
- 7:16Speaker 5: you know, making me feel strange talking about it. And,
- 7:19Speaker 5: and I realized, oh my God, if I use this technique,
- 7:22Speaker 5: it actually works. I become the alpha pussy, they back away.
- 7:25Speaker 5: And it's really about just having agency and standing your
- 7:28Speaker 5: own two feet and, you know, not letting anyone push
- 7:32Speaker 5: you around bullies or anyone, you know, in life or
- 7:36Speaker 5: in your career.
- 7:37Speaker 4: When we got the email about having you on the show,
- 7:40Speaker 4: my husband who works with me was like all excited.
- 7:43Speaker 4: He's like, she's from Woodland Hills. So I was born
- 7:46Speaker 4: and raised in Woodland Hills.
- 7:47Speaker 2: No way.
- 7:48Speaker 4: And I've talked about Woodland Hills my whole life. And
- 7:52Speaker 4: my book talked a lot about that area of town.
- 7:56Speaker 7: Wait, where in Woodland Hills? Can I ask?
- 7:58Speaker 4: I just moved last year, but I had a house
- 8:01Speaker 4: there for 19 years. I bought it next door to
- 8:03Speaker 4: the to the house I grew up in with my parents.
- 8:07Speaker 4: It was on Lander Drive, just south of Wells, kind
- 8:10Speaker 4: of near Westchester County, the gated community and Serenia Park.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Oh, that was a different. So I was off, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 5: if you had Wells and then Oakdale.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So if you went a little. Further towards DeSoto. Okay.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Before you get to DeSoto and you're on Wells and
- 8:28Speaker 4: you're going up a hill, you would go to the
- 8:30Speaker 4: left and there's a flat area of homes that are
- 8:33Speaker 4: like kind of ranchy homes. And the technical name is Vistadero,
- 8:37Speaker 4: but there are these flat homes and they're, so it's like,
- 8:39Speaker 4: I mean, flat meaning flat.
- 8:41Speaker 7: So you're in the fancier area. Yeah.
- 8:43Speaker 1: A little.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It was a little bit. And then they built.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Nice.
- 8:45Speaker 4: And then I remember Westchester County got built. But before that,
- 8:49Speaker 4: it was called the NBC lot. And they would film
- 8:51Speaker 4: Little House on the Prairie there.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 2: And that's next to Serenia Park.
- 8:55Speaker 7: I was near right off of Ventura Boulevard.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Basically.
- 8:59Speaker 7: You know, between Ventura and Wells.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:02Speaker 7: In that long strip. Like Oakdale went from Wells to Ventura.
- 9:06Speaker 2: It has all the orange trees.
- 9:07Speaker 5: It was all orange groves. It was all pomegranate trees.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 7: You know, that's what.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Valley used to be. And then, I mean, across the
- 9:15Speaker 5: street from my house was a vacant lot. That was
- 9:18Speaker 5: like the Garden of Eden. It was like plum trees,
- 9:20Speaker 5: fig trees, you know, everything. I had a, my fig
- 9:25Speaker 5: tree was my fort, which I talk about in one
- 9:27Speaker 5: of those stories, how my fort was infiltrated. But yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 5: it was a different time. I mean, I went, I
- 9:36Speaker 5: went to Parkman Junior High. And when I went there
- 9:39Speaker 5: the other day, I was doing something. I said, oh,
- 9:41Speaker 5: I'm going to drive by and see what it's like.
- 9:44Speaker 7: And it's not there. I couldn't find it.
- 9:47Speaker 5: And in fact, I'm driving around Chalk Hill, which, you know, Ventura, everything.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I was like, I might as well have been in
- 9:54Speaker 5: Ohio or somewhere. I had no idea where I was.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Everything's changed so much.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I love that you that you talked about I talked
- 10:01Speaker 4: about it and that it was like so interesting to
- 10:03Speaker 4: you because I was like oh it's like to me
- 10:05Speaker 4: growing up in the valley it was very interesting because
- 10:10Speaker 4: you know I grew up thinking it was great right
- 10:14Speaker 4: Being really grateful. My parents are realtors. I went to St.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Mel's in Louisville. My brothers went to Taft. I was like,
- 10:21Speaker 4: we have a pool. Life is great. Not until I
- 10:25Speaker 4: went to USC did I realize there was like a
- 10:29Speaker 4: negative connotation to snobby LA people. Like I didn't, I
- 10:32Speaker 4: was like, what? They're like, how do you handle it there?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Isn't it like 10 degrees hotter? And I was like, um,
- 10:39Speaker 4: I don't know. We have air conditioning. Like, what's the deal?
- 10:42Speaker 4: And then when I, um, worked on a TV show,
- 10:46Speaker 4: I just got shit every day for living in the Valley.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And now all those people are dying to buy a
- 10:50Speaker 4: house here because, you know, everything's so expensive.
- 10:53Speaker 2: But it is sort of like.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Yeah, the Valley's kind of come back in a big way.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Everyone's like, I want to live in the Valley.
- 10:56Speaker 2: It's kind of chic now. I was like, really?
- 10:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of had a chip on my shoulder
- 11:00Speaker 4: a little bit about, like, the pride. I was like,
- 11:02Speaker 4: 818 till I die. And, like, why is everyone such
- 11:05Speaker 4: a dick about it?
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know, like.
- 11:07Speaker 4: But there were times where I was like, oh, yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 4: I wonder if I had ever moved, like... and you're
- 11:14Speaker 4: around people that are all making movies happen and they're,
- 11:17Speaker 4: you know, like they're at the restaurant that you're at.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I'm like, that probably would have maybe been better for me.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Maybe I would have, I don't know. You know what
- 11:25Speaker 2: I mean? Because my neighbors, I didn't even know.
- 11:28Speaker 7: I mean, you don't know. How are you supposed to
- 11:31Speaker 7: know that growing up?
- 11:32Speaker 5: I mean, I, but I do believe that it's, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 5: they say nature or nurture, you know, I think that
- 11:40Speaker 5: when I was growing up in the Valley, and of course,
- 11:43Speaker 5: I don't know anything other than that.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:46Speaker 5: And, you know, it was just a very precarious time because,
- 11:49Speaker 5: you know, my best friend's brothers were like.
- 11:52Speaker 2: The weed dealers in the Valley. No, my brother was
- 11:54Speaker 2: a weed dealer.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Really?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Do you remember a man named Jim McDonald?
- 11:59Speaker 5: No. Oh.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But I think we were in difference. I didn't go
- 12:03Speaker 2: to Taft. He's older than I am. Oh, so maybe
- 12:05Speaker 2: he didn't have the territory. Yeah. He was the Taft
- 12:08Speaker 2: one and he would be.
- 12:09Speaker 5: This is when I was like barely in Parkman Junior High,
- 12:12Speaker 5: barely out of elementary school.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Okay. He was doing it more in high school. He
- 12:16Speaker 2: would have been. Closer to your age.
- 12:18Speaker 5: And by the way, this is when you're not supposed
- 12:20Speaker 5: to— you have to beep out his name because active.
- 12:22Speaker 2: No, he died. It's okay. Okay, he's dead. That's great.
- 12:24Speaker 4: He's dead, and I brag about it. It was the
- 12:26Speaker 4: one and only job he had.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It was great.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I know that we were talking about, like, people suing.
- 12:30Speaker 5: I change names in here just so— Oh.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know what I want to say about changing names
- 12:35Speaker 2: that I was always like, thanks, publisher. That would have
- 12:38Speaker 2: been nice.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I tell people all the time if they're going to
- 12:40Speaker 4: write any memoir, I'm like— from the moment you do
- 12:43Speaker 4: the outline of the story, change the names.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Because I wrote the whole thing with the names.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Right.
- 12:50Speaker 4: And not until the very end, they're like, change the names,
- 12:52Speaker 4: but also change the city where this guy was. If
- 12:55Speaker 4: he was an eye doctor, make him a podiatrist. Oh, really?
- 12:58Speaker 4: I'm like, I would have done that, but now, then
- 13:00Speaker 4: I would be doing a book signing and someone would
- 13:02Speaker 4: be like, oh, the Craig story. And I'm like, wait,
- 13:05Speaker 4: who's Craig? Because I changed it at like the ninth hour. And, um, No,
- 13:13Speaker 4: I do joke about how my brother, I didn't know it,
- 13:15Speaker 4: but he was a weed dealer.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And, or more than that.
- 13:19Speaker 4: And they, they had added on a room so you
- 13:22Speaker 4: could go through the garage and then he had like
- 13:24Speaker 4: a separate door to like, the hallway into his room.
- 13:27Speaker 4: And my parents were busy all day long trying to
- 13:30Speaker 4: sell houses. And I just thought my brother was the
- 13:32Speaker 4: most popular guy on earth because people stopped by all
- 13:36Speaker 4: the time. They didn't stay very long, but they stopped
- 13:39Speaker 4: by and they left. And then he was like, here,
- 13:42Speaker 4: help me grow this. And I didn't, I'm like, what
- 13:44Speaker 4: are we making? He's like tomatoes. And we were like
- 13:46Speaker 4: growing it in the back. And my parents had no clue. Yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 4: that's so funny. But, you know, but at the time,
- 13:54Speaker 4: like there was, you know, I wasn't surrounded by other
- 14:00Speaker 4: creative people, you know, I mean, to get, you know,
- 14:03Speaker 4: I think my brother and sister were older, so they
- 14:06Speaker 4: didn't want anything to do with me.
- 14:07Speaker 5: You know, I had the weed dealers over here. And
- 14:10Speaker 5: then I'm like, I'm going to go to the bowling alley. Oh,
- 14:12Speaker 5: I could sell, you know, pinball games. I liked movies.
- 14:16Speaker 5: So I learned how to sneak into the The Corbin
- 14:19Speaker 5: Bowl or the theater. Right.
- 14:21Speaker 4: There was Corbin Bowl and then there was the Tarzana
- 14:23Speaker 4: movie theater. That's what you're talking about.
- 14:24Speaker 2: On Ventura, right? Right next to each other. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Right?
- 14:27Speaker 7: I changed it for the cover because it didn't look right.
- 14:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 7: I had to make it a little bit whatever.
- 14:31Speaker 5: But yeah, but then one day I snuck into that
- 14:35Speaker 5: movie theater to watch Billy Jack for the zillionth time.
- 14:39Speaker 7: And I heard all these sounds like, oh, oh, oh.
- 14:42Speaker 7: And I'm like, I don't remember anything.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Recall those sounds in Billy Jack you know and I
- 14:47Speaker 5: looked up and there's a smattering of men in the
- 14:50Speaker 5: audience with raincoats on I'm like raincoats it's not raining
- 14:55Speaker 5: I mean I was clueless I was so young I'm
- 14:57Speaker 5: like why are they wearing raincoats and I looked up
- 15:00Speaker 5: at the you know the screen and I'm like what?
- 15:03Speaker 2: Like, wait, what?
- 15:05Speaker 7: What's she doing with that snake? I mean, it was just,
- 15:08Speaker 7: you know, and I was like, oh my God.
- 15:10Speaker 4: And so it's just, isn't it crazy that people would
- 15:14Speaker 4: go into like a regular movie theater and sit next
- 15:18Speaker 4: to other people to watch porn? That must be the
- 15:21Speaker 4: most insane concept to like Gen Z today.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Like that is so weird when you think about it.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Like why even like buy it and get it free
- 15:30Speaker 2: on your like, you know.
- 15:31Speaker 4: And then you would be like showing your face and
- 15:34Speaker 4: going in there or going into a sex shop or
- 15:36Speaker 4: like giving your ticket to the person selling the movie,
- 15:40Speaker 4: the dirty movie.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Yeah. Like, you know, listen, that was the valley at
- 15:45Speaker 5: a time. It was like strewn with people like that.
- 15:49Speaker 5: You know, it wasn't a time of helicopter parents. So
- 15:52Speaker 5: it was like, be home before dinner, you know, at
- 15:54Speaker 5: six or seven years old.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Like, I'll walk home, you know, a mile to my house.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And like, that's fine.
- 16:00Speaker 5: And, you know, listen, predators and toxic and gross people
- 16:03Speaker 5: have been around forever.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Forever.
- 16:05Speaker 5: You know, but then all of a sudden I realized, wow,
- 16:08Speaker 5: they're around a lot. And, you know, obviously they're here
- 16:12Speaker 5: now more than ever.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Yes. So, yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 5: You know, but growing up, I didn't, I just started
- 16:18Speaker 5: getting depressed because I think I, I was artistically inclined,
- 16:22Speaker 5: but I didn't have anyone to play with. And then
- 16:24Speaker 5: at some point I started doing theater, but no one
- 16:26Speaker 5: really took it seriously. And at some, at another point
- 16:28Speaker 5: I was like, I just need to get out of here.
- 16:30Speaker 5: My parents were like, we're pulling you out because all
- 16:32Speaker 5: my friends were either getting busted for drugs or it just,
- 16:36Speaker 5: it wasn't a, it wasn't a creative, healthy environment. And
- 16:41Speaker 5: I was really going down You know, I didn't have
- 16:43Speaker 5: friends I wanted to hang out with anymore. And so
- 16:46Speaker 5: then when they moved me, it was either a girls'
- 16:49Speaker 5: school or Beverly. And I'm like, I'm not going to
- 16:51Speaker 5: a girls' school.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you would have probably gone to Louisville. That's where
- 16:54Speaker 2: I went. Or Birmingham. No, not Birmingham. Corvallis. No, what
- 16:58Speaker 2: was the other two? Buckley.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Oh, that's not girls.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And Westlake.
- 17:03Speaker 7: Was Westlake the girls' school?
- 17:04Speaker 2: Yes, Westlake.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Before Harvard, Westlake became Harvard-Westlake. Harvard was all boys and
- 17:08Speaker 4: Westlake was all girls.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I think it was Westlake or Buckley maybe. And Westlake
- 17:12Speaker 2: was non-religious. So it was Westlake. That's where they were
- 17:14Speaker 2: going to send you.
- 17:15Speaker 5: And I just said, I don't want to do that.
- 17:16Speaker 5: They said, or you can get into Beverly. Because my
- 17:18Speaker 5: brother and sister, they basically moved to the slums of
- 17:21Speaker 5: Beverly Hills because my dad was traveling a lot. So
- 17:24Speaker 5: he was closer to the airport and my mom– was
- 17:27Speaker 5: an interior decorator.
- 17:28Speaker 7: And she had clients all around.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Oh, that was a smart idea. So they're like, you
- 17:32Speaker 2: know what?
- 17:32Speaker 5: This is a great school. I had an aunt and
- 17:34Speaker 5: uncle and cousins there. They're like, we're moving you over here.
- 17:36Speaker 5: And I'm like, Beverly Hills. Like, oh my God, I
- 17:39Speaker 5: just want to go to Calabasas or the beach. I
- 17:40Speaker 5: was like a surfer chick. But then secretly I was
- 17:43Speaker 5: happy I was leaving. And once I got to that school,
- 17:47Speaker 5: I was like, whoa, there's like a theater. There's a
- 17:50Speaker 5: little theater. There's pizza.
- 17:51Speaker 7: There's chocolate donuts.
- 17:53Speaker 2: There's a planetarium. They had that pool. They had a pool.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I could take surfing for PE.
- 17:59Speaker 5: I was like, this school is rad.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I love this school. Yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 5: So, you know, but more importantly, I kind of found
- 18:07Speaker 5: my people there, you know, like I found dancers and
- 18:11Speaker 5: actors and singers. And to this day, I'm friendly with
- 18:15Speaker 5: my gang of girls there.
- 18:17Speaker 2: That's so awesome.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Yeah.

- 18:49Speaker 6: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 18:52Speaker 6: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 18:55Speaker 6: have faced tremendous setbacks and yet somehow have found a
- 19:00Speaker 6: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Life is one long lesson of chaos.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I'm heading to the Emmys, and I have police complaints
- 19:08Speaker 3: filed against me.
- 19:09Speaker 5: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 19:11Speaker 5: what would you do if it was given back?
- 19:14Speaker 6: Where did that need come from where you thought that
- 19:17Speaker 6: you had to succeed in order to feel loved?
- 19:19Speaker 2: He said, I have a work dad. I need a
- 19:21Speaker 2: home dad. What happens next? When I came in, he
- 19:23Speaker 2: started crying.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 19:28Speaker 6: those hard moments that they go through. It's about what
- 19:31Speaker 6: happens next.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I decided to risk it all. I realized how valuable
- 19:35Speaker 2: every day was. You're worth the work. Listen, Dara, I'm
- 19:38Speaker 2: not going to pull punches. You can use your voice
- 19:40Speaker 2: even if it shakes.
- 19:41Speaker 6: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 19:55Speaker 4: And then I, and, but then you actually wanted to
- 19:58Speaker 4: go to like a pro a professional school for kids, right?
- 20:01Speaker 5: Not for kids. When I was at Beverly, one of
- 20:04Speaker 5: the older girls, she was like in 12th grade. She
- 20:06Speaker 5: had just come from, um, American Conservatory Theater, the summer program.
- 20:12Speaker 5: And something clicked. Once I started really getting into it,
- 20:15Speaker 5: I'm like, I want to be a serious actress. I
- 20:17Speaker 5: really thought this is what I want to do. And
- 20:20Speaker 5: she told me about the program. And I thought, well,
- 20:22Speaker 5: I have to go. Like, I want to be a professional. And,
- 20:25Speaker 5: you know, you go between the summer, between 11th and
- 20:28Speaker 5: 12th grade. The only problem was I wasn't old enough. But,
- 20:31Speaker 5: you know, like everything else, I just lied about my age.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I had a fake ID. And I auditioned.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I got in.
- 20:37Speaker 5: And then I had to talk my parents into letting
- 20:40Speaker 5: me go, which, you know, eventually they did. But then
- 20:43Speaker 5: I had to kind of lie to them about, oh, yes,
- 20:45Speaker 5: I'm living with this woman.
- 20:46Speaker 2: She's 28.
- 20:46Speaker 7: They met her.
- 20:48Speaker 5: She worked in the costume department at the American Conservatory Theater.
- 20:53Speaker 5: So I was with a grown up. But as soon
- 20:56Speaker 5: as I walked in, my parents, you know, my mom
- 20:58Speaker 5: was like, I don't think this is a good idea.
- 21:00Speaker 5: My dad really trusted me. He said, you know, she'll
- 21:02Speaker 5: be OK. And then the woman turned to me.
- 21:05Speaker 7: She said, guess what? I just got a gig in Hawaii.
- 21:07Speaker 7: I'm not here all summer.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I'm like, great.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Don't say anything to my parents, you know? And so
- 21:12Speaker 7: I was living there on my own.
- 21:13Speaker 4: So you're living in this pretty nice, normal, safe apartment though.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah. By yourself at how old?
- 21:21Speaker 5: I had just turned 16 and I'd lied and said
- 21:23Speaker 5: I was 17. And you don't know the city because
- 21:26Speaker 5: you just got there.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:28Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 21:30Speaker 7: It was fun.
- 21:30Speaker 4: That's like– that is probably– and so all day long
- 21:33Speaker 4: you would take these classes and stuff in the summer?
- 21:35Speaker 2: All day long.
- 21:36Speaker 5: I just was at school the whole time. And then
- 21:39Speaker 5: I met this girl. I can't remember how I met her.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Through a friend of ours. And her parents were gone.
- 21:44Speaker 5: And she was like a real socialite, fun party girl.
- 21:47Speaker 5: And she lived in Pacific Heights, which was the fancier area.
- 21:50Speaker 5: And so she's like, just move in with me. She's like,
- 21:53Speaker 5: no one's here. And so we lived in her place.
- 21:56Speaker 5: So I would go to school all day. And then
- 21:57Speaker 5: at night, she's like, let's go to this club.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Let's go to a party.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Such a fun girl. So I was kind of like
- 22:03Speaker 5: living this like totally fun life. And it was kind
- 22:06Speaker 5: of nice to have their, like have a roommate or
- 22:08Speaker 5: a friend, you know, instead of just being alone. Maybe
- 22:10Speaker 5: I would have gotten a little weirded out at that stage,
- 22:12Speaker 5: but it was fun. It was a great, It was
- 22:15Speaker 5: great training and it made me realize like, oh, I
- 22:17Speaker 5: want to take this seriously and I want to keep continuing.
- 22:20Speaker 5: And the teachers there were very supportive and they all
- 22:24Speaker 5: just kept saying, go to college, keep studying. You know,
- 22:27Speaker 5: this is really important that you learn other things. And
- 22:30Speaker 5: I felt that way, too.
- 22:31Speaker 2: So it was good.
- 22:33Speaker 4: And so what was like your first like I'm in
- 22:35Speaker 4: a real thing that people can watch or see and
- 22:39Speaker 4: I'm like on my way. I have representation like this
- 22:43Speaker 4: is this can be like a real career.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Well, when I was in high school, this woman, Tina Landau,
- 22:48Speaker 5: this woman, she was my best friend at the time.
- 22:50Speaker 5: She wrote a play, Faces on the Wall, that we
- 22:52Speaker 5: ended up taking to the Coronet Theater. So that was
- 22:55Speaker 5: my first professional show. And I remember I got, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 5: all these different people kept saying, we want to be
- 23:01Speaker 5: your agent. We're going to represent you. And yet, but
- 23:05Speaker 5: most of them were like, we're going to put you
- 23:06Speaker 5: on a TV show right now. And I kept thinking,
- 23:09Speaker 5: I want to go to college. I don't want to
- 23:10Speaker 5: be like a dumbass actress, you know, to me, just
- 23:13Speaker 5: because A, it was important for my parents that I
- 23:15Speaker 5: go to college and B, all the people I respected,
- 23:19Speaker 5: like studied other things. And I just knew I hadn't
- 23:22Speaker 5: grown into my body yet.
- 23:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 7: Even though I was 15, I looked like I was 24.
- 23:26Speaker 7: You know, I.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I, I just, I wasn't there yet.
- 23:30Speaker 5: But when I would watch like Jessica Lange and Francis,
- 23:33Speaker 5: I'm like, that's what I want to do, but I
- 23:34Speaker 5: don't know how to do that yet. And I know
- 23:37Speaker 5: I need to be older, you know? Um, And so
- 23:40Speaker 5: I ended up going with an agent. I'm like, I
- 23:42Speaker 5: want to go to college. He's like, great, go to college.
- 23:45Speaker 7: And so I.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Felt reassured, I guess, when I did the play. Although
- 23:52Speaker 5: I didn't doubt.
- 23:52Speaker 7: It, you know. I always thought, oh, this is what
- 23:54Speaker 7: I'm going to do. Like, you know, some things you know.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 5: And then I went to school and as soon as
- 23:58Speaker 5: I graduated, he's like, great, come out here. We're going
- 24:00Speaker 5: to put you to work.
- 24:01Speaker 2: And where did you go? How was college for you?
- 24:03Speaker 2: Where did you go?
- 24:04Speaker 7: I loved it.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Well, I went to Emerson for the first year. Um,
- 24:07Speaker 5: just because I thought, I think my parents were like,
- 24:09Speaker 5: you're not going to New York city, like right out
- 24:11Speaker 5: of here. You don't. Yeah. So the Boston was a
- 24:13Speaker 5: very good introduction to the East.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Although, I.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Mean, I don't regret a lot of things, but I,
- 24:18Speaker 5: I kind of wish at Emerson, I had taken more
- 24:22Speaker 5: of the creative writing program. Cause I think it was
- 24:24Speaker 5: stronger in that suit and the acting, it was okay,
- 24:27Speaker 5: but I wasn't like blown away by, you know, what
- 24:31Speaker 5: I was. And I had gotten to a professional show there,
- 24:33Speaker 5: so I had to, to stay, um, But then I
- 24:36Speaker 5: went to NYU and I kind of looked at the
- 24:40Speaker 5: classes and then I just secretly auditioned again.
- 24:43Speaker 2: And then I got in.
- 24:45Speaker 7: They said, you know what? You can come into the
- 24:46Speaker 7: second year because you seem a little advanced.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I said, great.
- 24:49Speaker 5: So I said, mom, dad, guess what? I want to
- 24:50Speaker 5: go to NYU now. And, you know, they were always
- 24:53Speaker 5: very respectful. And, you know, my dad's like, well, we'll
- 24:57Speaker 5: do it. But, you know, you have to make your
- 24:59Speaker 5: own money to do all the other stuff and we'll
- 25:01Speaker 5: take care of this.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I said, fair.
- 25:04Speaker 7: So, yeah.
- 25:05Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 25:06Speaker 4: I mean, I, I always remember the thing that I
- 25:08Speaker 4: thought was so memorable and like unique about you.
- 25:13Speaker 2: This is, I love that you did this video, the
- 25:15Speaker 2: word on the street, the 90s are back. It's a
- 25:17Speaker 2: trending thing.
- 25:18Speaker 5: I have this girl who's so great helping me do
- 25:20Speaker 5: social media right now because I've never done that.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 5: You know, I thought for the book, I'll do it
- 25:25Speaker 5: for like a month. And she puts, she's like, okay,
- 25:28Speaker 5: so we're going to do this.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And I'm like, why?
- 25:29Speaker 6: Why?
- 25:30Speaker 2: She said, because it's trending.
- 25:32Speaker 7: I don't even know.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I'm like, okay.
- 25:33Speaker 5: But then she sends it to me. I'm like, oh,
- 25:34Speaker 5: that's kind of cute. And sometimes I'm like, I don't
- 25:37Speaker 5: like this song. She goes, that's the song.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I'm like, ugh.
- 25:40Speaker 4: So I always think this, like the thing that made
- 25:43Speaker 4: you to me so memorable. was that you had this
- 25:48Speaker 4: very sexy mouth and it was so unique. And I
- 25:54Speaker 4: tell people when I talk about stars from our era,
- 25:58Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, they would pop because you couldn't buy lips.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You couldn't buy cheekbones.
- 26:06Speaker 4: You couldn't like, so if, if you had a unique
- 26:08Speaker 4: kind of sexy, the way you're like, you had these
- 26:11Speaker 4: full lips that like kind of curved.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I was like, that is just, nobody else has.
- 26:15Speaker 5: I mean, didn't people, people, and as, as time went on,
- 26:20Speaker 5: when people started getting all that stuff, they're like, so
- 26:21Speaker 5: who did your lips?
- 26:22Speaker 7: I'm like, What? I'm like, my mom? Like, I didn't
- 26:26Speaker 7: even understand the question.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I'm like, what do you mean?
- 26:28Speaker 7: Like, well, I just put this makeup on. And I
- 26:30Speaker 7: was like, oh, no, who did them?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:32Speaker 5: I said, they're mine. Look at my mother had the
- 26:35Speaker 5: same mouth. My sister has the same mouth. My niece
- 26:37Speaker 5: has the same mouth. Like the Gershon lips.
- 26:39Speaker 2: My mom, when she was born in Wisconsin, they came out.
- 26:43Speaker 4: To LA the Valley and my mom said like one
- 26:45Speaker 4: of the first couple weeks that she was here she
- 26:47Speaker 4: was at a grocery store and someone came up to
- 26:49Speaker 4: her and was like who did your nose and she's
- 26:51Speaker 4: like what because she had a really good nose better
- 26:54Speaker 4: than mine she had like a perfect like model's nose
- 26:56Speaker 4: and it's true it's like now everyone just assumes that like.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Because it's thick you can do it yeah but um Yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 4: And I just think being brunette and your brown eyes,
- 27:08Speaker 4: like even that was like a unique look. It seems like,
- 27:10Speaker 4: like we always were just at that time, it was
- 27:13Speaker 4: all about, you know, blonde hair, blue eyes, and just
- 27:15Speaker 4: even bringing brunette was like something we didn't actually see.
- 27:20Speaker 5: I talk about that in my book, you know, I talk,
- 27:22Speaker 5: I can't remember which chapter, but you know, when I
- 27:25Speaker 5: came back here, Oh yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 2: The first place.
- 27:28Speaker 5: So I came back from college and I auditioned and
- 27:31Speaker 5: I got, uh, my first equity job here because they were,
- 27:35Speaker 5: remember when Los Angeles Theater Company opened up? So it
- 27:39Speaker 5: was a new theater and I was going to be
- 27:40Speaker 5: playing with fabulous people. You know, it was Ed Harris
- 27:43Speaker 5: at the time that turned into Bill Pullman and Adam Arkin.
- 27:48Speaker 5: And I mean, it was such a great cast. And
- 27:52Speaker 5: I was cast as Sharina, the Afghani girl, like who
- 27:55Speaker 5: goes up against the Russian. It was about the Russian invasion. Beijing, Afghanistan.
- 27:59Speaker 5: And it was an incredible part. I couldn't believe I
- 28:03Speaker 5: got it. I had a whole retinue of, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 5: Greek chorus of all my Afghani girls. And it was
- 28:08Speaker 5: an incredible part. So I got to speak with, you know,
- 28:12Speaker 5: a little Farsi. I got to look very, you know,
- 28:15Speaker 5: Middle Eastern Afghani, you know, did my hair, my makeup.
- 28:18Speaker 5: And I really loved this part and got really good reviews.
- 28:23Speaker 3: All that.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Could not get an audition to save my life. They're like,
- 28:27Speaker 5: she's fabulous. but we need an American girl.
- 28:30Speaker 2: You were too convincing.
- 28:31Speaker 5: And I was like, dude, I'm like from the Valley.
- 28:34Speaker 5: I'm like, you know, what do you mean? I like
- 28:35Speaker 5: can't be more American. But I was also too exotic.
- 28:40Speaker 5: You know, I was dark hair, dark eyes. It was
- 28:44Speaker 5: very much the blonde hair, blue eye culture.
- 28:45Speaker 2: It's so funny that they would say that, that they
- 28:47Speaker 2: would call just a brunette exotic.
- 28:49Speaker 5: This guy, uh, I had a book signing in New York,
- 28:53Speaker 5: you know, about a week ago. Um, I'd like this
- 28:56Speaker 5: big talk and this, and I, he'd read the book
- 29:00Speaker 5: and he said, I am one of your casting. I
- 29:02Speaker 5: was one of the people who got your, you know,
- 29:05Speaker 5: to cast you in something. And he had my, one
- 29:07Speaker 5: of my original headshots.
- 29:08Speaker 2: That's so amazing.
- 29:09Speaker 5: But on the back, you know, where it has your listed,
- 29:12Speaker 5: you know, circus training, you write out anything you can
- 29:14Speaker 5: to sound really cool. And on the top, he said,
- 29:18Speaker 5: too ethnic, very good, but too ethnic. He said, he goes,
- 29:23Speaker 5: you're right. Like you were too ethnic for things. And
- 29:25Speaker 5: of course, so I made a career of playing Italians or,
- 29:28Speaker 5: you know, Colombians, Afghanis. I mean, anything but like a
- 29:33Speaker 5: nice Jewish girl from the valley, right?
- 29:36Speaker 2: Or a surfer girl. I always thought you were Italian.
- 29:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 2: That's right. what I thought. I'm not.
- 29:41Speaker 5: And, of course, now— Maybe because Gina, too, is traditionally
- 29:44Speaker 5: an Italian. And I look very Italian. But, I mean,
- 29:46Speaker 5: I played absolutely anything European.
- 29:48Speaker 2: That's so great, though.
- 29:50Speaker 5: But, of course, now they're like, oh, no, no, you're
- 29:52Speaker 5: not ethnic enough. You have to really be that.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Right.
- 29:56Speaker 5: So it was such a crazy time. And most of
- 29:59Speaker 5: my parts, you know, I was like, I like the
- 30:00Speaker 5: guy's part better. They're like, OK, so I ended up
- 30:03Speaker 5: playing the guy's part or here's this, which things that
- 30:06Speaker 5: you're not, you know, it's not politically correct to do.
- 30:10Speaker 5: And it's great that so many people are included. But
- 30:14Speaker 5: I'm sorry, you know, I wouldn't have had a career
- 30:16Speaker 5: had I not been able to play you know, in Bound,
- 30:19Speaker 5: the gay girl.
- 30:20Speaker 7: Oh, you're not really gay, so you better not play that.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I want to talk about that, Bound.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Like, that's amazing because, no, I agree with that, too.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I'm like, it is called acting for a reason. If
- 30:29Speaker 4: we all just played ourselves, then that's a reality person.
- 30:32Speaker 5: I'm very.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Like, you know, I mean, I get the lines and everything.
- 30:37Speaker 4: You know, yeah, if we can find someone. But also, like,
- 30:40Speaker 4: that's what makes people get an Oscar is because they're like,
- 30:43Speaker 4: I can't believe this person transformed themselves into this person.
- 30:46Speaker 7: Of course.
- 30:47Speaker 2: That's called acting. And I'm a big believer.
- 30:50Speaker 5: I just, listen, I think if it's a super historical story,
- 30:54Speaker 5: situation where, you know, everyone has to be, you know, Japanese, right?
- 30:58Speaker 5: Like it's a, this sort of story, then yeah, you,
- 31:01Speaker 5: you stick with that. But if it's a story and,
- 31:04Speaker 5: you know, here's a brutal blah, blah, blah person, some
- 31:08Speaker 5: guy who has this sort of energy, I, I just
- 31:12Speaker 5: feel like if a girl comes in and has that energy,
- 31:14Speaker 5: I don't care who's playing it. I don't care your race.
- 31:16Speaker 5: I don't care your ethnicity. I don't care your, your gender.
- 31:20Speaker 5: But if you Like embody the essence of what that
- 31:23Speaker 5: character needs. That to me is what I would be
- 31:25Speaker 5: looking for.
- 31:26Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly. You know, I don't know.
- 31:30Speaker 2: It's all so limiting.
- 31:31Speaker 5: We're like, well, how old are you? It's like, what
- 31:33Speaker 5: does it matter? I mean, especially today. You know what
- 31:35Speaker 5: I mean? Because you can, with CGI and all.
- 31:39Speaker 2: The AI stuff, I could play.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I don't know if I'd go under three months old
- 31:43Speaker 5: because two months is a tricky age, but like I
- 31:45Speaker 5: could go to 2000 years old.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I could go to easily eight. Like you could do anything.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:50Speaker 2: That to me.
- 31:51Speaker 5: And it's an essence of what you're doing. So I
- 31:54Speaker 5: really liked that part of acting, you know?
- 31:56Speaker 4: So, well, I remember this movie because it really was
- 32:00Speaker 4: kind of groundbreaking and it's bound and you're, it was,
- 32:05Speaker 4: you were a lesbian. You were, Working on this house,
- 32:10Speaker 4: you fall in love with Jennifer Tilly, who is, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 4: so fun. On this show, we all watch Real Housewives
- 32:18Speaker 4: of Beverly Hills.
- 32:19Speaker 7: Jennifer's the best.
- 32:20Speaker 4: So she's super funny on it and just, you know,
- 32:23Speaker 4: and was a great actress. Perfect for this role because
- 32:26Speaker 4: she plays a mob.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Awful mob guys, you know, abused girlfriends.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Of course, she's like, is happy to have like a
- 32:33Speaker 4: sexy lesbian girlfriend. And so tell me a little bit
- 32:37Speaker 4: about that. Was that the first time you played a
- 32:39Speaker 4: gay character?
- 32:40Speaker 7: Well, I was, I was just coming off of Showgirls
- 32:43Speaker 7: where I was, I guess, technically.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Showgirls came before this?
- 32:47Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 5: Oh, I thought this was before Showgirls. They kind of
- 32:50Speaker 5: were around the same time. I mean, playing Showgirls, um,
- 32:54Speaker 5: I wasn't, you know, I was, I don't even call
- 32:56Speaker 5: her bisexual. I call her whatever sexual, power sexual. I
- 33:00Speaker 5: think that character would have slept and done anyone to
- 33:05Speaker 5: achieve her ambitions, you know?
- 33:08Speaker 7: But I kiss guys in that. I kiss girls in that.
- 33:11Speaker 7: Who knows what she does?
- 33:13Speaker 5: But I think Inbound was my first, she was my
- 33:16Speaker 5: first real lesbian who, you know, happened to be an ex-convent,
- 33:23Speaker 5: who happened to be getting out of, prison. And to me,
- 33:27Speaker 5: that story was all about learning how to trust, you know, yes,
- 33:30Speaker 5: she was bound in the closet and, you know, it
- 33:34Speaker 5: was a very beautiful lesbian love story where I got
- 33:38Speaker 5: to be the hero. You know, it's usually I played
- 33:41Speaker 5: the typical guy's part. And in fact, Warner Brothers, I
- 33:44Speaker 5: think it was Warner Brothers said to the Wachowskis, we'll
- 33:47Speaker 5: give you a lot more money, just make Corky a guy.
- 33:50Speaker 5: It's a typical noir blah, blah, blah, and they're like, no,
- 33:54Speaker 5: she's staying a woman.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Right, the noir of, like, the girl gets her lover
- 33:58Speaker 4: to take care of her awful husband, that type of story.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Yeah, the noir woman who's kind of shady, she probably
- 34:04Speaker 5: has a secret idea, she wants to off her mafia boyfriend. Right.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Usually probably screws over the hero at some point, or
- 34:12Speaker 5: maybe not, you know, maybe they end up together. But structurally,
- 34:15Speaker 5: it really fit that, except Corky, the guy, the hero,
- 34:19Speaker 5: happened to be a woman. Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 7: So I was like, Ooh, I want to play that.
- 34:23Speaker 7: That sounds cool.
- 34:24Speaker 2: And how was it?
- 34:25Speaker 4: Like when, did you already have the part before you
- 34:28Speaker 4: ever met Jennifer or did you have chemistry tests and stuff?
- 34:32Speaker 5: No. I think when I, when I first started talking
- 34:36Speaker 5: to the Wachowskis about the part, I wasn't, I think
- 34:39Speaker 5: they weren't sure. And I wasn't sure like, as I,
- 34:41Speaker 5: am I going to be quirky or am I going
- 34:43Speaker 5: to be Violet? Cause I mean, typically Violet was an
- 34:46Speaker 5: easier part to put me in. Cause I, you know,
- 34:49Speaker 5: especially coming off of Showgirls, although no one had seen
- 34:51Speaker 5: that yet because we had just finished wrapping. But I
- 34:55Speaker 5: was like, guys, and they were guys then, I was like,
- 34:58Speaker 5: I want to play Corky. I want to cut my
- 34:59Speaker 5: hair off, cut my nails off, not wear makeup, you know, quote, unquote,
- 35:04Speaker 5: no makeup, but that no makeup look.
- 35:06Speaker 7: I said, this is an exciting part. Like, I never
- 35:08Speaker 7: get to play this.
- 35:09Speaker 5: And so when we finally decided me on Corky, I
- 35:12Speaker 5: think they had Jennifer in mind. And I said, well,
- 35:15Speaker 5: we have to meet, you know, just because I was
- 35:18Speaker 5: nervous about who I was going to be playing with.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Since coming off of Showgirls, I was a little bit,
- 35:26Speaker 5: I was just like, oh, my God. The work environment
- 35:29Speaker 5: wasn't great for me. And so as soon as I
- 35:34Speaker 5: met Jennifer, I think we went up to Vegas. Gosh,
- 35:37Speaker 5: I can't remember now. We went somewhere to meet her.
- 35:41Speaker 5: And as soon as we started talking and she's like, oh,
- 35:43Speaker 5: you know, she talks a mile a minute. She's like, oh,
- 35:44Speaker 5: you know, I like those chants.
- 35:46Speaker 2: She talks and talks and talks.
- 35:47Speaker 7: She gets up and walks around. I'm like, oh, my God,
- 35:49Speaker 7: she's going to make my job so easy.
- 35:51Speaker 5: She's so entertaining. And I could just watch her. And
- 35:55Speaker 5: she just like she's so charming and funny. And I
- 35:59Speaker 5: just adored her right away. And I'm like, oh, my God,
- 36:02Speaker 5: I love her.
- 36:03Speaker 7: So, you know.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 4: It's a great movie.
- 36:08Speaker 2: It was so good.
- 36:09Speaker 4: So, wait, obviously I have a lot of questions about Showgirls.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I saw it the minute it came out. I was
- 36:18Speaker 4: thoroughly entertained. I do remember that they were like, this
- 36:21Speaker 4: is the worst movie that ever lived.
- 36:24Speaker 2: It wasn't... But.
- 36:27Speaker 4: But like in the previews and stuff, it looked to
- 36:30Speaker 4: me like I was so excited. It was going to
- 36:32Speaker 4: be juicy. I love stories about Las Vegas.
- 36:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 2: I like the genre of it.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I love it of like where it's like Hollywood, but
- 36:42Speaker 4: everything is quicker and faster and sadder and more dangerous
- 36:45Speaker 4: than trying to make it in Hollywood. So the backdrop
- 36:49Speaker 4: of it and everything was great. But then there were
- 36:51Speaker 4: some scenes that, you know, got people to go, is
- 36:54Speaker 4: this crazy? But I and I'm not just saying this
- 36:56Speaker 4: because you're sitting across from me, but I really liked
- 36:59Speaker 4: your character.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I like that you were the showgirl.
- 37:01Speaker 4: That had, you know, been around a minute and she
- 37:05Speaker 4: was the new girl. And it was like, is she
- 37:08Speaker 4: a bitch or is she trying to help her?
- 37:10Speaker 5: Like, I thought.
- 37:12Speaker 4: So tell me, let's talk a little bit about it. Like,
- 37:16Speaker 4: what were you thinking when you got the part? Like,
- 37:17Speaker 4: what was your feeling?
- 37:18Speaker 5: I mean, I talk a lot about it in the
- 37:20Speaker 5: book just because, you know, after 30 years, which is
- 37:23Speaker 5: now 30 years, the people were like, this is the
- 37:25Speaker 5: worst movie. People cannot wait to talk about Showgirls. Like,
- 37:29Speaker 5: it's just like the movie that just keeps on giving.
- 37:35Speaker 5: You know, I was excited when I got it. It
- 37:37Speaker 5: was Paul Verhoeven and who I'd been a huge fan
- 37:40Speaker 5: of from his Dutch films. You know, I was really
- 37:42Speaker 5: into Spetters and, you know, Soldier of Orange and all that.
- 37:47Speaker 7: And they'd just done Basic Instinct, you know, Esther House.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 5: And when I read it, you know, I've always been
- 37:55Speaker 5: a big fan of All About Eve, one of my
- 37:58Speaker 5: favorite movies ever. And I was always like, oh, I'm
- 38:01Speaker 5: the Eve character. And I'm like, wait a second. Can
- 38:04Speaker 5: I actually be the.
- 38:04Speaker 7: Margot character in this? You know, and I felt I
- 38:07Speaker 7: was kind of in between that.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't even think about the All About Eve
- 38:11Speaker 2: element of this. Oh, yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Just for people that don't know, All About Eve was
- 38:15Speaker 4: a great movie where she was a big theater actress.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It was an old movie. And her understudy?
- 38:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Or was it her assistant?
- 38:25Speaker 5: No, Betty Davis is a big, huge diva star.
- 38:27Speaker 7: She's fabulous.
- 38:28Speaker 5: She has her husband, who's a wonderful writer. And then
- 38:32Speaker 5: along comes the Eve character, who's just so innocent.
- 38:36Speaker 2: And she just.
- 38:37Speaker 5: wants to watch her and be her understudy because she
- 38:39Speaker 5: wants to be an actress too, but she just is
- 38:41Speaker 5: in love with Margot, who's larger than life, super diva.
- 38:45Speaker 5: And then, of course, little Eve conniving Eve, which we
- 38:49Speaker 5: don't realize until later, little by little, you know, doesn't
- 38:53Speaker 5: push Margot down the stairs, but she plots it so
- 38:56Speaker 5: then she becomes the big star, right?
- 39:00Speaker 7: It's a fabulous movie if you haven't seen it.
- 39:02Speaker 2: And she does end up with her husband, right, too?
- 39:04Speaker 7: And she ends up stealing the husband.
- 39:06Speaker 2: And you know, it is a story that is as old.
- 39:09Speaker 2: As old as time. It really is as old as time.
- 39:12Speaker 4: It still happens today. I think people can relate to it. Whatever,
- 39:17Speaker 4: whether it's a, yes, you think you're mentoring someone or
- 39:20Speaker 4: it's an assistant or whatever.
- 39:22Speaker 2: And you're like, is this at all about Eve's situation?
- 39:23Speaker 2: What the fuck is this?
- 39:25Speaker 5: You know, but the only line I really remember in Showgirls,
- 39:29Speaker 5: people always come up in the say things and I'm like, uh-huh.
- 39:32Speaker 7: Like, I'm like, why are they saying these weird things
- 39:34Speaker 7: to me?
- 39:35Speaker 5: But there's, and I'm, of course, I'm going to totally
- 39:37Speaker 5: paraphrase it, but it's, and I'm sure Jo Esther House
- 39:40Speaker 5: got it from someone else that I should probably figure
- 39:42Speaker 5: out who that was. But it's like, there's always someone
- 39:45Speaker 5: younger and hungrier walking down the stairs after you.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good.
- 39:49Speaker 7: Right. And of course, she ends up pushing you down
- 39:51Speaker 7: the stairs.
- 39:52Speaker 5: There's always someone trying to take your place in this,
- 39:55Speaker 5: you know, but really look watching Showgirls now. I didn't
- 39:58Speaker 5: see it then because I was too traumatized by the
- 40:00Speaker 5: whole thing.
- 40:03Speaker 7: You know, it's really a story about, you know, as.
- 40:07Speaker 5: Paul is very sneaky with his other movies about ugly America,
- 40:12Speaker 5: about fascism, about capitalism, about. power dynamics. Because at the time,
- 40:17Speaker 5: I'm like, why is this rape scene in here? Just like,
- 40:20Speaker 5: get rid of it. And now I'm like, of course,
- 40:22Speaker 5: it's got to be in there. Because, you know, the
- 40:24Speaker 5: powerful and the whole patriarchal system of it, like, of course,
- 40:28Speaker 5: they get away with it, you know, until the women
- 40:31Speaker 5: come back and get their comeuppance, which is what I think,
- 40:34Speaker 5: you know, is exciting in it.
- 40:36Speaker 7: But I didn't see it at the time.
- 40:37Speaker 5: I just thought, oh, my God, I've got to get
- 40:39Speaker 5: in their job right away to show that I'm really
- 40:41Speaker 5: an actress.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Because this is So when you were doing it and
- 40:45Speaker 4: filming it, were, did, was it a pleasant experience? Were
- 40:50Speaker 4: you excited for the outcome and then was disappointed in
- 40:52Speaker 4: the feedback or what was it?
- 40:54Speaker 2: You really got to read.
- 40:55Speaker 4: There's like five chapters. I heard there was five chapters.
- 40:57Speaker 4: What can you share with us so that people still
- 40:59Speaker 4: get the five chapters? I mean, I, I feel like, um,
- 41:05Speaker 4: That's such an interesting thing because you never know when
- 41:08Speaker 4: you get a role. I'm sure there's been times with
- 41:11Speaker 4: you and there's been little things with me and going
- 41:13Speaker 4: out and things where I laugh about it now.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Like when I went out to.
- 41:18Speaker 4: Be the host of American Idol and they described the
- 41:22Speaker 4: show to me and I did audition for it, but
- 41:24Speaker 4: I remember thinking, this thing's never going to make it.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Like there's been like a couple of moments where, or
- 41:29Speaker 4: I've read a script for like a pilot and I've
- 41:31Speaker 4: been like, this is the dumbest thing.
- 41:33Speaker 2: This doesn't even make sense. Like, and I never got
- 41:37Speaker 2: it anyway. It wouldn't matter.
- 41:38Speaker 4: But where I'm like, I'm like, clearly my picker was off.
- 41:40Speaker 4: So I always think when you're reading a script or
- 41:42Speaker 4: you're seeing, you don't really know, you know, what it's
- 41:46Speaker 4: going to, what the final product is going to be
- 41:48Speaker 4: or what the feat or, or maybe even times where
- 41:50Speaker 4: you thought something wasn't going to be a hit has
- 41:53Speaker 4: become a hit, you know?
- 41:54Speaker 5: I think, for me, my, you know, I'm sure other
- 41:59Speaker 5: people do this as well. A lot of people, like,
- 42:02Speaker 5: maybe it's the director person in me. Like when I
- 42:05Speaker 5: read the script, I, first of all, I, I see
- 42:08Speaker 5: what I, in my mind, I think, oh my God,
- 42:11Speaker 5: this is going to be so incredible. And also thinking
- 42:14Speaker 5: about Paul Verhoeven. So I know his films and I'm like, whoa,
- 42:17Speaker 5: this is gonna be so dark. This is gonna be
- 42:18Speaker 5: so cool. I fell in love with the part. I'm like, wow,
- 42:21Speaker 5: I get to I mean, I had to lie about
- 42:23Speaker 5: my age and pretend I was older and all that stuff,
- 42:25Speaker 5: but I ended up eventually getting it.
- 42:30Speaker 2: So I thought it was going to be, and I prepared.
- 42:32Speaker 5: In my head a very particular part, very Margot, very like,
- 42:37Speaker 5: you know, there's the Aphrodite psyche story that I really
- 42:40Speaker 5: kind of grabbed onto.
- 42:41Speaker 7: And the Margot and Eve of it all. But then
- 42:47Speaker 7: I got to set. And it was a totally different movie.
- 42:51Speaker 7: I was like, oh, huh.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Like what?
- 42:54Speaker 5: You know, I think I'm doing a black and white
- 42:56Speaker 5: intense film. And then it's like Technicolor sparkles, you know.
- 43:01Speaker 5: And and so like I mean.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Even the poster is I'm sure not what you this
- 43:06Speaker 4: is one of the posters.
- 43:06Speaker 7: I've never even seen this.
- 43:09Speaker 4: There were different posters. I just kind of thought this
- 43:11Speaker 4: was great just because like.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Your name's on it.
- 43:14Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's not me. That's Elizabeth.
- 43:16Speaker 2: No, down here, your name, Gina. Oh, yeah, there's my name.
- 43:18Speaker 7: Well, yeah, my name should be. I'm like the star
- 43:20Speaker 7: of the show.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Right, I know, I know.
- 43:21Speaker 4: So what I was looking at, but the other one
- 43:23Speaker 4: was just the leg. That poster is kind of sexy.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Which honestly is more like chic.
- 43:29Speaker 7: Yeah, and I thought the poster was a big mistake.
- 43:32Speaker 7: I came in to the guys.
- 43:33Speaker 5: I remember I was going to the production office, and
- 43:36Speaker 5: I had this inspired idea. I said, oh, my God,
- 43:41Speaker 5: I know what the poster should be. I know what
- 43:42Speaker 5: we should do to advertise it. Because I was driving
- 43:45Speaker 5: on Sunset. I said, we should have a billboard. And, like,
- 43:47Speaker 5: there'd be a curtain with lights around it. And every day,
- 43:49Speaker 5: it's like 100 days to Showgirl, 99 days to Showgirl. And, like,
- 43:53Speaker 5: the curtain keeps rising little by little. And you see
- 43:56Speaker 5: the leg, the shoe, not wearing much. And at the
- 43:59Speaker 5: very end, it's, you know, one of those, like, kind
- 44:00Speaker 5: of nudie girls, like a burlesque thing.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Like, Showgirl, Showgirl. But, like, fun.
- 44:05Speaker 7: Because I thought, oh, this is a fun movie.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 2: And then they said, oh, no, this is the poster
- 44:10Speaker 2: we're using. And I was like, what?
- 44:13Speaker 7: Like, wait, what?
- 44:14Speaker 5: First of all, it was a known photograph that was
- 44:18Speaker 5: like ripped off from this photo. I can't, Angela, oh
- 44:22Speaker 5: my God, I'm spacing out on the, you know, it
- 44:25Speaker 5: was a photo I had seen. I'm like that, I've
- 44:26Speaker 5: seen this. They're like, oh yeah, we're taking this image
- 44:29Speaker 5: and doing that. I just thought it was way too serious.
- 44:31Speaker 5: And I said, but it's so serious. And I thought, oh,
- 44:35Speaker 5: do these guys think this is a serious movie? And
- 44:38Speaker 5: I mean, I realized at some point I was probably,
- 44:41Speaker 5: I had to changed my way of thinking to make
- 44:44Speaker 5: it make sense so I did 180 degrees with my
- 44:47Speaker 5: character just so I could have fun with it yeah
- 44:49Speaker 5: but then I thought wow I think they're selling this
- 44:52Speaker 5: as a serious film I don't know I was clearly
- 44:55Speaker 5: in a different movie.
- 44:56Speaker 4: That is so interesting because I think that's what maybe
- 45:00Speaker 4: the confusion from the audience and maybe some of the
- 45:02Speaker 4: criticism was is because you didn't understand when Elizabeth Berkley
- 45:08Speaker 4: was like, get all mad.
- 45:11Speaker 2: And there were these lines and people were like, what
- 45:13Speaker 2: the hell is this? Who acts like this?
- 45:16Speaker 4: And it was more of those things where you're in
- 45:18Speaker 4: the movie theater and people are laughing at things that
- 45:21Speaker 4: they shouldn't be laughing at. And so that's kind of where...
- 45:25Speaker 4: But then it became like this cult classic that people just.
- 45:30Speaker 4: And, you know, and it's interesting, too, that you've had
- 45:33Speaker 4: such a, you know, a great varied career and stuff
- 45:36Speaker 4: that like probably what that must have been like, you know,
- 45:41Speaker 4: where there were real reviews like Roger and Ebert reviews,
- 45:45Speaker 4: not just a million people just, you know, doing Rotten
- 45:47Speaker 4: Tomatoes or whatever. And you kind of have to see that.
- 45:53Speaker 4: As you know, as a major Hollywood star, like. Like,
- 45:57Speaker 4: how does that work? Like, you said I need to
- 45:59Speaker 4: get a job right away. Well, I wasn't a Hollywood
- 46:02Speaker 4: star then. That was a big break for me.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I'd done little movies here and there, but I never
- 46:06Speaker 5: had a lead in a film quite like that. And I,
- 46:12Speaker 5: you know, listen, I didn't direct it. I didn't produce it.
- 46:16Speaker 5: As an actress, I go in and my only job
- 46:19Speaker 5: is to do the best job possible.
- 46:21Speaker 7: I can, you know. And when I'm hanging.
- 46:25Speaker 5: From a rope in, like, a little S & M outfit,
- 46:28Speaker 5: watching all these naked dancers below me, it really occurred
- 46:32Speaker 5: to me, like, wow, how did I get here? Like,
- 46:35Speaker 5: I studied the classics. You know, I wanted to play
- 46:39Speaker 5: Antigone and Medea. And I'm going to do a lot
- 46:42Speaker 5: of Chekhov. And I thought, you know what, we better
- 46:45Speaker 5: be really good in this, really good, else we're not
- 46:48Speaker 5: going to have a career. And so I was very.
- 46:52Speaker 5: I stayed on my own track of what I wanted
- 46:53Speaker 5: to do. And, you know, I, you know, there's just
- 46:57Speaker 5: a few, but for most part, I, I kind of
- 47:00Speaker 5: walked away unscathed, you know, the rest of the movie
- 47:03Speaker 5: got like lambasted.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Which by the way, isn't fun either. I thought you
- 47:06Speaker 2: were a very believable character.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Like I believe this girl worked in Vegas all these years,
- 47:11Speaker 4: you know, like you could, and she's like, You know,
- 47:14Speaker 4: she's a great character.
- 47:15Speaker 5: And I, you know, I did a good I did
- 47:17Speaker 5: the best job I could. And I but it's just
- 47:20Speaker 5: it's hard when you're the one getting good reviews and
- 47:22Speaker 5: everything else is getting slammed. It doesn't make you feel great.
- 47:25Speaker 5: You know, I mean, thankful that I'm not included in
- 47:27Speaker 5: all that. But, you know, listen, reviews. I learned a
- 47:31Speaker 5: lot from that because, you know, if you read the
- 47:33Speaker 5: good ones, if you believe the good ones, you have
- 47:36Speaker 5: to believe the bad ones. And, you know, it's just
- 47:38Speaker 5: an opinion. And some of those same journals were like,
- 47:41Speaker 5: this is the worst movie ever. You know, for years
- 47:44Speaker 5: and years and years.
- 47:45Speaker 2: They're like, so let's talk about Showgirls. I really like that.
- 47:48Speaker 7: People would say, I really like that movie, secretly.
- 47:51Speaker 2: And, you know, I'll.
- 47:52Speaker 5: Tell you, the only person, and I know he's been
- 47:54Speaker 5: very controversial lately with a couple things, but God bless
- 47:59Speaker 5: Quentin Tarantino. He was the only, like, kind of a
- 48:02Speaker 5: major player at that point. He came out with a
- 48:06Speaker 5: big article saying, I love Showgirls, and these are the
- 48:09Speaker 5: reasons why.
- 48:09Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, God, good for you, because everyone.
- 48:13Speaker 5: was just kind of going along with the tide saying, oh,
- 48:15Speaker 5: they're saying it's bad.
- 48:16Speaker 7: Well, I better say it's bad too. And people sometimes
- 48:19Speaker 7: don't have their own opinion.
- 48:20Speaker 2: So I really.
- 48:20Speaker 7: Appreciated that he supported the movie.
- 48:26Speaker 2: And so, yeah, it was.
- 48:29Speaker 5: So anyway, before it came out, it was supposed to
- 48:31Speaker 5: be this big brouhaha, but I secretly in my head
- 48:33Speaker 5: thought I better show that I'm actually a real actress
- 48:36Speaker 5: because I don't know what this movie is going to do.
- 48:38Speaker 5: That's when I said to my agents, find me something fast.
- 48:42Speaker 5: And they were like, no, we're going to put you
- 48:43Speaker 5: in a big studio thing.
- 48:44Speaker 7: We're going to do this.
- 48:45Speaker 5: And when I read Bound, I'm like, I want to
- 48:47Speaker 5: do that. I want to do that. And I want
- 48:49Speaker 5: to do that now. And they were shooting it now.
- 48:52Speaker 5: And I'm like, I couldn't find a part that was
- 48:59Speaker 5: so diametrically opposed to everything that Showgirls was.
- 49:02Speaker 7: And so I thought, perfect.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 49:05Speaker 4: And what was your relationship like? You've always had, you know,
- 49:09Speaker 4: you've always been you know, sexy, great body. How was
- 49:14Speaker 4: it like doing more, showing off your body more on
- 49:17Speaker 4: film and acting? Like, did you like what was your
- 49:21Speaker 4: relationship with that did you enjoy.
- 49:23Speaker 5: It i mean i talk a lot about that in
- 49:25Speaker 5: the book you know these are things i address like
- 49:28Speaker 5: through a lot of different chapters um.
- 49:33Speaker 7: You know, listen, I grew up, I was a dancer.
- 49:35Speaker 7: I was a modern dancer.
- 49:37Speaker 5: Me and my girlfriends, we'd take off our tops and
- 49:38Speaker 5: we'd do our Martha Graham movements, you know. So the
- 49:43Speaker 5: dancing part to me wasn't that big of a deal
- 49:45Speaker 5: because I just.
- 49:47Speaker 7: I was a dancer.
- 49:50Speaker 5: And originally, I actually never was really supposed to show
- 49:55Speaker 5: my body in it. A little, systematically, like all of
- 49:58Speaker 5: a sudden you saw my chest, you know, and, you know,
- 50:01Speaker 5: the one, the most, naked kind of you see me
- 50:04Speaker 5: in is in that, in the big volcano scene. And
- 50:08Speaker 5: I have a, there's a whole chapter about that specifically, um,
- 50:13Speaker 5: about how it turned into a G string from that,
- 50:16Speaker 5: you know, uh, you know, listen, I, I don't have
- 50:22Speaker 5: a problem with anything really, as long as it's justified,
- 50:26Speaker 5: as long as.
- 50:27Speaker 4: It makes sense for the character and the story.
- 50:30Speaker 7: How does this move the story forward?
- 50:33Speaker 2: What does this do? There's a whole chapter about.
- 50:35Speaker 5: It's one of my favorite chapters, you know. I called
- 50:41Speaker 5: out Crazy the Crazy, I believe that it is, when
- 50:43Speaker 5: all of a sudden, you know, it came to my attention.
- 50:45Speaker 7: Like, oh, we need to be totally naked in this scene.
- 50:47Speaker 7: I'm like, what? Like, you know.
- 50:50Speaker 5: And I talk a lot about that, how I kind
- 50:52Speaker 5: of wiggled out of that one.
- 50:55Speaker 7: Although, you know, listen... Anyone.
- 50:59Speaker 5: Who is going to be, especially now, I mean, forget
- 51:04Speaker 5: intimacy coordinators.
- 51:05Speaker 2: We didn't have that then, but this is why you
- 51:07Speaker 2: have- That's what I was going to ask you.
- 51:09Speaker 4: When did that start happening to have intimacy coordinators?
- 51:12Speaker 2: Not until, I don't know, last 10 years.
- 51:14Speaker 7: I don't even know.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like the last 10 years.
- 51:16Speaker 5: It's not really my, I'm not so used to- This
- 51:19Speaker 5: is why you have lawyers. This is why you make
- 51:21Speaker 5: a contract ahead of time. And it's not very sexy,
- 51:26Speaker 5: but you go very systematically through, oh, you'll see 5%
- 51:31Speaker 5: of my hand, okay, on a screen of this. And
- 51:34Speaker 5: you go through every sex scene, every nudity scene. So
- 51:38Speaker 5: you are protected, you know, in case all of a
- 51:42Speaker 5: sudden your director turns out to be a psycho saying,
- 51:44Speaker 5: we're going to do it like this.
- 51:45Speaker 2: And it's like, well, no, actually, I don't have to
- 51:47Speaker 2: because- We discussed this ahead of time.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Unless you're a smaller player or a stunt woman or something,
- 51:52Speaker 4: sometimes you maybe don't have the say because it's like,
- 51:56Speaker 4: do switch it up.
- 51:57Speaker 6: You know?
- 51:58Speaker 5: I think it's really important whether you have a lawyer
- 52:00Speaker 5: or not, then you have those conversations ahead of time.
- 52:03Speaker 5: And I could certainly sympathize. And obviously it's happened a
- 52:09Speaker 5: lot as we've seen in the last few years. And
- 52:11Speaker 5: that's one of the reasons I wrote this book as well.
- 52:14Speaker 5: When I talked to some actresses and they're like, oh
- 52:16Speaker 5: my God, this is what, is happening on the set.
- 52:19Speaker 5: And I'm listening like, dude, you can't like, A, you
- 52:23Speaker 5: have to look the person in the eye and say, hey,
- 52:25Speaker 5: you know, I'm not really comfortable doing that. Tell me
- 52:27Speaker 5: exactly why. And they're so intimidated or stressed out, which
- 52:34Speaker 5: I can appreciate. And everyone's like, well, you're so tough.
- 52:36Speaker 5: You know, you know how to do that. But like,
- 52:38Speaker 5: I wasn't always tough. That's all those. I set up
- 52:42Speaker 5: the valley for a very specific reason. to show how
- 52:45Speaker 5: I had to learn how to have an antenna and
- 52:47Speaker 5: this and that.
- 52:48Speaker 7: But, you know, at the.
- 52:50Speaker 5: Very least, I just am a big believer in don't
- 52:54Speaker 5: do anything you don't want to do, you know, that
- 52:56Speaker 5: doesn't feel right to you, right? And I'm sorry, like I,
- 53:03Speaker 5: you know, I feel really horrible and bad for, you know,
- 53:07Speaker 5: a lot of these people are victims and because they
- 53:10Speaker 5: have no say, right? What about the person that's going
- 53:12Speaker 5: to be deported somewhere unless they do something horrible with
- 53:14Speaker 5: their boss? Like, these are the people we have to
- 53:17Speaker 5: be protecting, right?
- 53:18Speaker 7: Right, exactly.
- 53:19Speaker 5: And unfortunately, and hopefully fortunately in the future, I don't
- 53:22Speaker 5: know why we don't have this now, there's a thing
- 53:24Speaker 5: called accountability and consequences. And maybe that will prove to
- 53:28Speaker 5: be a deterrent for the future because the people who
- 53:31Speaker 5: really don't know how to defend themselves and really kind
- 53:33Speaker 5: of get in a situation, you know, we definitely need
- 53:36Speaker 5: to help protect.
- 53:37Speaker 4: And I definitely think in Hollywood, especially, but in a
- 53:41Speaker 4: lot of industries, if you do stick up for yourself
- 53:46Speaker 4: or demand or whatever, then you know what?
- 53:50Speaker 2: They don't ever have to hire you again.
- 53:52Speaker 4: And they could also tell their friends, don't you hire
- 53:55Speaker 4: them either because now they have a bad story about
- 53:57Speaker 4: me and I don't want them telling that story in
- 53:59Speaker 4: the room.
- 54:00Speaker 2: And that is the.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Blackballing thing that happens. And I think that's why people
- 54:04Speaker 4: do Stay quiet. It's why we have a union. But
- 54:07Speaker 4: even if you go through the right channels, it's still,
- 54:12Speaker 4: it's a subjective thing. You just weren't right for the
- 54:14Speaker 4: part and you never got another part.
- 54:17Speaker 2: And you're like, okay.
- 54:18Speaker 5: I'm sure I've lost at least 35% of roles because
- 54:23Speaker 5: I didn't play along or.
- 54:24Speaker 2: You didn't comply.
- 54:25Speaker 7: There's, you know, the head of the agency was like, oh,
- 54:28Speaker 7: let's go out.
- 54:29Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, oh, for lunch. Good business. And
- 54:32Speaker 2: then you realize, oh no, this is a. oh, this
- 54:34Speaker 2: is a date date.
- 54:35Speaker 7: Like, oh no, no, I have a boyfriend. Like I
- 54:37Speaker 7: always just said I had a boyfriend, but.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Then, you know, but these are choices. And you know what?
- 54:44Speaker 5: If all of a sudden, if I was like, oh
- 54:45Speaker 5: my God, I want to be famous. I want to
- 54:47Speaker 5: make money. I want to do this and that. And
- 54:49Speaker 5: if that was a way to get what I wanted,
- 54:51Speaker 5: you know what? That's between me and me. And I
- 54:54Speaker 5: just have to own up to it, right? I don't
- 54:55Speaker 5: judge anyone for their choices, but be clear with what
- 54:59Speaker 5: your choices are. And if you don't want to do
- 55:01Speaker 5: that and you're not comfortable either you know, a lot,
- 55:06Speaker 5: some of these stories, a lot of these stories is
- 55:08Speaker 5: how I kind of manipulated my way out without completely
- 55:13Speaker 5: confronting these little egos so they could completely blackball you.
- 55:17Speaker 7: But like, you know, as women, there's so many ways
- 55:21Speaker 7: you're like, oh, like what? And then you get out
- 55:23Speaker 7: of it.
- 55:24Speaker 5: And, you know, listen, I get along with, I haven't
- 55:27Speaker 5: met a wild animal I haven't been killed by, you know,
- 55:30Speaker 5: whether it's dangerous, you know, swimming with alligators or snakes.
- 55:35Speaker 5: you know, or wolves or, you know, I'm very good.
- 55:38Speaker 7: With animals and yet I wouldn't walk through a jungle
- 55:43Speaker 7: after dark by myself.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Because animals are animals. Don't put yourself in a situation
- 55:50Speaker 5: that is, you know, could potentially be very dangerous.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:56Speaker 4: I mean, I've always said, because I've been doing this
- 56:00Speaker 4: show since the beginning of the Me Too and I
- 56:02Speaker 4: covered it all in the Harvey Weinsteins and stuff. And
- 56:06Speaker 4: in hearing all these stories and, you know, with actors
- 56:10Speaker 4: and things, I'm like, I am still waiting for the
- 56:15Speaker 4: one actress who doesn't give a fuck anymore, is a
- 56:19Speaker 4: woman of a certain age, who will tell the true
- 56:22Speaker 4: story of like, yeah, I did do this.
- 56:28Speaker 2: So that I could get that part.
- 56:29Speaker 4: And once I got that part and showed the world
- 56:31Speaker 4: what a great actress I was, I never had to
- 56:33Speaker 4: do it again. But I felt that was my only
- 56:36Speaker 4: choice because I was at this level or because I
- 56:39Speaker 4: didn't have a good agent or because I wanted a
- 56:40Speaker 4: nepo baby. You know, there's so many people and I
- 56:43Speaker 4: just want one person just to like tell their juicy story.
- 56:48Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 56:49Speaker 7: I think you'll be probably waiting a long time to
- 56:50Speaker 7: hear that story.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I probably will. But it must exist, right? I'm sure
- 56:55Speaker 2: it does. I mean, we all have our things of like... Yeah.
- 56:58Speaker 5: Listen, I tell another story in there and it's the
- 57:01Speaker 5: one I don't really name the actor because my job
- 57:04Speaker 5: isn't to throw anyone under the bus. Yeah. But it
- 57:06Speaker 5: was very clearly, it was the closest thing to like
- 57:08Speaker 5: a casting couch because I kept saying, what am I,
- 57:10Speaker 5: chopped liver?
- 57:10Speaker 2: How come I never.
- 57:12Speaker 5: Although it's so funny. I kept, I said that in
- 57:14Speaker 5: the book, like no one ever really did that to me.
- 57:16Speaker 2: And this woman who read the whole book, she tried
- 57:18Speaker 2: to hit on you or whatever. No, she was just like,
- 57:20Speaker 2: she goes, you say you don't have that.
- 57:22Speaker 5: She goes, but you literally have story after story after
- 57:24Speaker 5: story where you were navigating.
- 57:26Speaker 7: I said, you know what?
- 57:28Speaker 2: I realized that now.
- 57:29Speaker 7: I didn't realize it then just because I'm like, you're.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Just like dodging bullets. Well, we're so used to that.
- 57:33Speaker 2: And I was so used to that in the Valley
- 57:35Speaker 2: dealing with that.
- 57:36Speaker 5: But there was one story where the guy at the
- 57:39Speaker 5: casting thing, he's like, oh, you're so cute.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Why don't you stand up? And walk around and and.
- 57:44Speaker 5: I remember like like this is gross like you know
- 57:47Speaker 5: good luck if you're gonna get gross i actually i'm
- 57:49Speaker 5: gonna leave he's like no no no i think you
- 57:51Speaker 5: should be my wife and i'm like thinking oh you
- 57:53Speaker 5: gotta kiss this guy if you do that i'm like
- 57:54Speaker 5: no good i'm good with it just two days of
- 57:56Speaker 5: work anyway i thought for sure i would never get
- 57:58Speaker 5: the job.
- 57:59Speaker 4: You mean he was like i want you to play
- 58:00Speaker 4: my wife yeah oh okay play my wife bigger part.
- 58:04Speaker 5: Bigger part and i thought oh i have to kiss
- 58:05Speaker 5: him no i don't want to do that i said
- 58:07Speaker 5: no i'm good with this the two days and Anyway,
- 58:09Speaker 5: I thought there's no way I got that because I
- 58:11Speaker 5: was like, listen, you're getting weird.
- 58:13Speaker 7: Like, I'm out.
- 58:13Speaker 5: Good luck with your movie, you know, because I thought
- 58:15Speaker 5: this isn't worth it. And I still got cast. And
- 58:19Speaker 5: then I was on the set and he said something weird.
- 58:21Speaker 2: And I'm like, you know what? And I mean, who
- 58:23Speaker 2: was I? I was doing theater then.
- 58:25Speaker 7: I was just like.
- 58:25Speaker 2: You were young. Yeah.
- 58:27Speaker 5: I was like, we could get along just great if
- 58:29Speaker 5: you just don't talk to me anymore.
- 58:31Speaker 2: And I thought, I'm going to get fired. And guess what?
- 58:33Speaker 2: I didn't get fired. But it's like I didn't want someone.
- 58:36Speaker 2: I didn't want him talking to me like that. So
- 58:38Speaker 2: you have to either.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's so interesting and it is so
- 58:42Speaker 4: hard to do. But it is kind of like, you know,
- 58:45Speaker 4: when they say... Especially if you're like walking on the
- 58:49Speaker 4: street and you feel like somebody's walking behind you, like
- 58:51Speaker 4: the thing that you're supposed to do is like turn around,
- 58:52Speaker 4: look them down and be like, get the fuck away
- 58:54Speaker 4: from me. And then you like act crazy, get crazy back,
- 58:58Speaker 4: be direct.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Out crazy the crazy. Yeah, that's going to be a
- 59:01Speaker 2: good chapter.
- 59:02Speaker 4: Yeah, being also just... you know, just calling them on like,
- 59:06Speaker 4: was that supposed to be funny? Are you trying to
- 59:08Speaker 4: be funny with like, you know, the women that can
- 59:11Speaker 4: do that, which is not me. I was a person
- 59:13Speaker 4: that laughed at the gross joke because I was like
- 59:16Speaker 4: uncomfortable and wanted this old man to feel comfortable. And
- 59:19Speaker 4: I was like, I love it when, when a woman
- 59:23Speaker 4: calls it out and is like really firm. And if
- 59:26Speaker 4: you do it the way you did it. So I
- 59:29Speaker 4: want everyone to read this book. The way you do it,
- 59:31Speaker 4: it's like, it's a strong, it's a strong way. It's
- 59:33Speaker 4: in the moment, but it's also not making them feel
- 59:37Speaker 4: that they do have to fire you because they're so
- 59:40Speaker 4: insecure now.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Like you did it just the right way. It sounds like.
- 59:43Speaker 2: It's yeah, but you, I learned how to do it.
- 59:45Speaker 5: I mean, there's a story in there about when I
- 59:48Speaker 5: went to the Playboy Mansion when I was 15.
- 59:49Speaker 2: I'd never been to a mansion. I didn't know what
- 59:51Speaker 2: a heck was. Now, how did you get invited to that? Oh,
- 59:54Speaker 2: my God. You got to read the book. I mean,
- 59:55Speaker 2: there's all these.
- 59:56Speaker 5: You're going to like this book because there's so many
- 59:58Speaker 5: of these stories that you're... But they're just so long.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I don't know how I look at the time. No,
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: and I want... Well, yeah, we want people to buy
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: the book. Yeah, buy the book. There's all these stories.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: Buy the book, read all these juicy... And I love
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: that there are little stories because I think.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you could jump around. That also is so good
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: because people, you know, their intention... though people are reading
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: a lot more.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Books that's coming back in, but I love essay funny
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: books that tie together, but also that you.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you can jump around.
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: I know, me too.
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: But I remember when I was at the, I went to,
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: ended up, there's a whole long story to get into it,
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: but at the end, at one point, I'm 15 and
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: I'm at the Playboy Mansion for the first time. And
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: there's some guy saying, do you want me to show
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: you around?
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah.
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: I've never been to a mansion. I'm like, this is rad. Like,
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: free pinball, free food. This is cool.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: You know, I.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: Was so naive, right? And then he shows, and my
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: mom's an interior decorator. I'm like, oh, I can't wait
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: to tell my mom about the molding on this.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Look at that molding. That's beautiful. So he shows me
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: the red room, this room, this.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: And then he's like, do you want to see the grotto?
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: And I'm like, thinking, what the fuck is a grotto?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, sure.
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: I want to see a grotto. I thought it was
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: like an animal or something. I had no idea.
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: And then, of course, it's the inside of the pool,
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: and there's a couple people swimming naked around it. And
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: I was like, whoa, this is an interesting structure.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: I mean, you know.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: And he's like, so should we take a swim? And
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: only then I realized, oh, my God, is this guy
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: totally hitting on me? And how old was the guy?
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Ancient. He must have been at least in his 30s.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: Right, but that's where, like, the innocence is, too, because
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: when girls are in that position, even if it's someone who's,
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: you know, they're contemporary and they think, like, you're just
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: some guy– but you just think they really want to
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: be your friend or they're so older and unattractive.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: You're like, how would you think I'd ever like you?
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: I wasn't even thinking about it. I was like, oh,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: this is neat. Oh, look at rocks in the water.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: That's so cool. Because you're 15, that's why.
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: And then when he said that, when I realized he
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: was hitting on me, I just looked at him and
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: I was so, I said, dude, you know, I'm only 15.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: You could get in so much trouble. And he laughed.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: He goes, ha ha ha. What are you, 23, 24?
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, I'm only 15.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: I'm seriously 15.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: You could get.
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: In a lot of trouble. And I was just laughing
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: my head off.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: That guy ran.
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: He didn't even back away like the other people.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: He just like ran. And I was like, oh, like,
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: but it was coming from a very innocent place.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: And I think later on with the whole alpha pussy thing,
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: when that started thinking, shit, I got to alpha pussy
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: this situation.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: It was definitely, you know, sometimes you don't want to
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: lose a job. Sometimes you don't. So you have to.
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: Figure out a way to sometimes, you know, caress in
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: a way not to like totally destroy their ego, but.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: To, I find sometimes just looking at them in the
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: eye and just say, oh, I see. I was like,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: oh my God, that's, yeah, that's making me so uncomfortable. Like,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: oh yeah, I'm doing this, I'm doing that. And owning
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: up to it.
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: And then they get uncomfortable and they walk away.
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: You have to finesse it, you know? And it's, it's,
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: it's just about, uh, and anyone could do it. It's
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: not just a female thing. It's any, there's other bully
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: stories where people were pushing me and I had to
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: figure out how do I get out of this? And
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: believe me, sometimes I was not very elegant about it.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: I just like, you know, jumped on them and ended
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: up breaking my nose or, you know, I had a
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: lot of rage in me as well.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: Um, I don't know.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: I just think obviously toxic people and bullies and people
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: trying to push you around and telling you what to do,
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: they're not going away. So to me, it's important to
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: have agency, know yourself, understand what it is that you
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: want and, you know, just do what feels and listen
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: to your instincts. And if you don't care how you
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: get a job or if you're going to be pushed
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: around because you want to get, then, anything is fine.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: This is not a how-to book. This is not a like,
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: you know, guide to whatever. This is just how I
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: navigated my own personal journey. And if people love the
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: stories because they're kind of funny and if they get
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: something from it, like, oh, the Alpha Pussy concept, that's
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: a good idea.
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: And that works.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: Amazing. I love that.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: I mean, you've worked in this business for, you know,
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: a long time, many decades of just the nineties and on,
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: and you continue to work like the industry, you know,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: we hear all the time it's changed so much and,
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: you know, there's not enough production here in LA and
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: people aren't going to movies or whatever.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Like, what do you want for your future?
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: What do you see happening in this business for you
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: going on, continuing to act and direct and doing all
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: the things you do?
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: I think the next, you know, I think, I think I've,
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: kind of got into the writing bug all of a
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: sudden um but I have I what I like to
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: do I've written one script but kind of set aside
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: but I want to you know address that and I'm
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: in the middle of finishing another script that I'm absolutely
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: obsessed with and these are parts that I would play
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: so to me if I could write scripts that I
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: think are really cool and get cool people involved and
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: I get to do it that's exciting that that's really
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: exciting to me and it's the only I mean it's
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: listen if someone just offers me a part that I
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: think is cool, like that's the.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Easiest gig to me.
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: That's like, Oh my God, I love this. This makes
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: life easy. You don't have to do the whole thing.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: But until I find that I'm still interested in exploring
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: characters that I want to explore and I like stories.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: So if it's a, I'm really into original stories, you know,
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: I'm just sick of seeing the same story again and again.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: I like supporting first time directors. I like supporting just fresh,
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: you know, stories and projects just because they're harder and
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: harder to come by.
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: And, you know, I like a good story. I'm a storyteller.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: And if I get to act in it, something that's
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: a fun part, different for me to play, amazing. Or
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: if I just write it or I don't know, then
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: I might just turn around and start painting for a while.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: Or do you paint? I started to during COVID and
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: I think I'm really into it. But, you know, that's
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: so cool.
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: I don't know if it's an age thing or a
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: COVID thing, but I used to be able to multitask.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: And I can't.
- 1:06:07Speaker 7: It's like once I go into one thing, it's all
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: I'm doing. You know, once I go into this, that's
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: all I'm doing.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: So like it took me a while to write this because,
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: of course, my day job, which is acting, all of
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: a sudden I'd get a gig and I have to
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: put everything aside.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: You could write at night.
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: And do your acting a day. I'm like, I don't
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: know how to do that. I can't. I just get
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: absorbed in what I'm doing.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: Well, this was a real thrill for me to get
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: to talk to you.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: And the book is Alpha Pussy. And so juicy.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: And I think you teased it just enough that everyone
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: needs to buy it. And where can they follow you
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: on Instagram and make sure that they- I'm.
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: Just, I'm only on Instagram. I'm not on any of
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: the other social medias. And my name is, what's my
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: name on Instagram? It's just Gina Gershon.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Gina Gershon.
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: It's Gina Gershon. And of course you can get the book.
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: But there's other Gina Gershon's ideas. You have to look
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: for the little blue dot.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Did you do an audio version too?
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: I did an audio version.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: I believe it's out now. Yeah, everyone loves an audio version. Yeah,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I listen to audio all the time.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: And especially when it's.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Your story and your voice.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: And like, I think that's super valuable. So get the
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: book if you want to read it. Otherwise, get the
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: audio version. Thank you so much, Gina. This was really fun.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: So great to get to know you.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: So fun.
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Thank you. One reward. Endless choice.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Skip the hassle, reward the easy way.
